Agnes Molnar - Best Practices for Information Architecture and Enterprise SearchAgnes Molnar
Information Architecture (IA) for a large organization is often as complex as a twisting labyrinth. In this session, I will explain and demonstrate, why a good IA design is important for search and also provides best practices on how to plan, maintain and govern it.
This white paper is about SharePoint Information Organizer (SIO). The SIO is a content management and classification solution which when installed runs from within the SharePoint ribbon. This assists SharePoint administrators, content owners, Site collections administrators in classifying their content according to the ever growing business needs in any organization relying on SharePoint.

There are few knowledge management tools available on the market today. SharePoint is widely adopted today as one of knowledge management tools.
This presentation describes main SharePoint features and presents few other content management systems such as Documentum, TeamSite, OpenText ECM Suite, Oracle UCM, and others. It further describes user adoption strategies, information governance in general and specifically in SharePoint.
SharePoint 2013 Web Content Management for Developers HSPUGEd Musters
As presented to the Hamilton SharePoint User Group on March 21, 2013. With powerful new content search capabilities, metadata driven navigation, and new features such as design manager and cross site publishing, this presents a paradigm shift for developers with a focus on WCM publishing sites (intranet, internet). These new features and capabilities will be presented at an introductory level during this talk. The session will then focus on your typical Visual Studio “Publishing Solution” in SharePoint 2010. How do you get this running on a SharePoint 2013 Farm “as is” (migration)? What is involved if I want to convert my existing visual studio solution to SP 2013 developer tools and then fully over to the SP 2013 publishing paradigm? We’re already in development of a SharePoint 2010 site - can we deploy SharePoint 2013 now or should we wait? This session will provide insight into how you should develop today, and be ready for the new world that awaits in SharePoint 2013!

Optimizing SharePoint for Transactional Content ManagementDocFluix, LLC
While SharePoint 2010 and 2013 has a wide range of great document management features, organizations that need "transactional content management" (such as invoices, purchase orders, claims, registration forms or other high volume documents related to a business process or transaction) find numerous challenges in optimizing SharePoint for this purpose. This presentation will cover how best to configure and optimize SharePoint for this type of document management.
This session provides information on how to best implement a Document Management System within SharePoint. All elements used to create a DMS are explained in detail and best practices are provided as well.

SharePoint Knowledge Management Suite by Layer2Frank Daske
Organizations are slowly waking up to the enormous value that enterprise social knowledge networking can unlock. With the Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and 2013 Collaborative Knowledge Management (CKM) becomes an approach to enable organizational intelligence in the enterprise. Taxonomy is the key: Managed Metadata can drive navigation, discovery and search, relation, and re-usability of content. Managed Metadata provides a common vocabulary for corporate language and can connect people to social networks.
While Microsoft has provided a state of the art API-based backend solution for knowledge management and search with SharePoint, the Layer2 Knowledge Management Suite for SharePoint is focused on term set life-cycle management, content classification, knowledge browsing, navigation and search-driven content discovery.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

3. Today’s Conversation
How to use Content Types to apply consistent
metadata columns across documents, items & pages
How to use the Taxonomy Term store to apply
consistent values across documents, items & pages
How to use SharePoint Search to locate and
aggregate content based on metadata by
customizing search results and refiners
4. Our Goal
Put documents into SharePoint in an organized way so
you can FIND THEM LATER!
5. Where did I put that?
How do I organize list and library data in my
SharePoint environment?
Remember the goal: organizing but also
locating content when you need it.
6. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
First determine what kind of information to
store along with your data.
Reduce business requirements and definitions
into reusable types to be used in libraries, sites
and the Enterprise
Content Types are the reusable building blocks
for SharePoint data
Content can be recycled (or moved)
7. Content Types Organize SharePoint
OTB and Custom Content Types
Created using site columns, which may be created on
their own
8. Metadata and Content Types
List level - columns associated with list/library
Site level – shared content definitions
Enterprise Level – Content Type Hub
Values may be driven by taxonomy terms (think of
choice fields on steroids)
9. Applied Metadata
Metadata is applied to list items and documents
Column data is saved along with other data
10. Pages Too!
Your SharePoint pages are documents too and are
built from content types
