This document summarizes an experiment that aimed to demonstrate that the aptamer CA15-2 significantly inhibits HIV-1 replication in producer cells, but not in target cells. The methods used included PCR, genetic recombination, PAGE, SDS-PAGE, and EMSA techniques. The results showed that CA15-2 bound tightly to the assembled HIV-1 capsid lattice and inhibited virus production in a dose-dependent manner in producer cells, but did not affect infection of target cells. The conclusions were that experimenting with the HIV virus structure using biological techniques helps understand its functioning and can be applied to control it, and understanding HIV replication can help stop it and advance the fight against this disease.
