Seed treatment involves subjecting seeds to compounds, processes, or energy forms to enhance germination. There are physical (e.g. hot water), chemical, and biological seed treatments. Hot water treatment kills diseases but can damage old seeds. Scarification mechanically or chemically damages seed coats to allow water penetration. Stratification exposes seeds to temperatures to overcome dormancy. Chemical treatments use salts or other compounds. Ultrasound increases seed permeability and germination in some crops like chickpeas but decreases it in others like peppers. It is a non-chemical method that increases alpha-amylase and germination speed.

6 Bradyrhizobial strains were obtained from 98 bacterial strains.
Bradyrhizobium is found only in rice root, with 10% relative abundance of total Alphaproteobacteria.
Endophytic Bradyrhizobia could not be obtained from the monoculture system.
Thai rice cultivars, the Thai Bradyrhizobial strains could promote rice growth better than Japanese strains.
Three rice cultivars (Pathum Thani 1, Kasalath, and Nipponbare), cultivar Pathum Thani 1 responded only to putative Thai rice endophytic Bradyrhizobia.
This phenomenon was not found in Japanese rice cultivars.
Non-PB strains are also capable of forming a natural endophytic association with rice.
Strains SUT-PR9, WD16, RP5, and RP7 displayed non-PB phenotypes but were genotypically close to PB strains.

Single cell protein SCP also referred as microbial protein is defined as protein derived from cells of microorganisms such as yeast, fungi, algae, and bacteria, which are grown on various carbon sources for synthesis. The dried cells of microorganisms or the whole organism is harvested and consumed. In this work SCP was produced from different agricultural waste substrates like food and vegetable waste, rice husk, pulses husk, bagasse and wheat straw using Aspergillus niger. These substrates not only act as nutritive supplement but also ensure good waste management. Also, carbohydrate content of each sample was determined. For maximizing the yield of SCP, some factors were optimized. Various buffers were used like phosphate buffer, carbonate bicarbonate buffer and 0.1N NaOH. The sample that shows the best result for SCP was identified to be MCD and fruit and vegetable waste in 50 50 ratio and rice husk. In the future SCP could be produced to not only be used to produce protein but multiple products rich in carbohydrate, vitamins, lipids and other amino acids. Also yield could be increased by genetically modifying SCP organisms. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

• Suggested for eggplant, pepper, tomato,
cucumber, carrot, spinach, lettuce, celery,
cabbage, turnip, radish, and other

for 10 minutes at 100 0F water.
• Old seed can be severely damaged by this

8. Seed Stratification
It is a method of exposing imbibed seeds to higher or low temperatures for
a period of time. It is done to overcome mechanical and morphological dormancy.
Warm Stratification : Exposing the seeds to either alternating temperature of 20-
25°C or constant temperature of 30°C for 2 weeks to 16 weeks depending on
species.
Cold stratification : It is a method of exposing imbibied seeds to lower
temperatures for a period of time.
• It is done to overcome physiological dormancy.
• Seeds should be soaked in several times their volume of water before prechilling,
at 3-5°C for 48 h.
• After soaking, the water is drained off and moist seeds are stored at 3-5°C for the
period appropriate to each species.

3. Cotton 2% Potassium chloride Dissolve 20g of the salt in 1000ml of water. Soak 1kg of seed in 650

4. Sunflower 2% Potassium chloride Dissolve 20g of the salt in 1000 ml of water. Soak 1 kg of seed in 650
ml of solution for 12 hrs. and dry back to original moisture.
5. Pulses 100 ppm Zinc sulphate Dissolve 100 mg of the salt in 1000 ml of water. Soak 1 kg of seeds in
350 ml for 3 hrs. and dry back to original weight or moisture. Before
soaking them in water or solution, precondition the seeds for 1 hr by
keeping them in between two moist gunny bags

Seeds coloured with non-toxic dyes like methyl red, bromocresol green,
methylene blue and rosebengal dyes.

• Ultrasonic waves are mechanical waves of
a frequency higher than 20000 Hz, which
are not detectable by human’s audiation
system.
• This technology is most commonly used in
medical field.
• The ultrasound technology has been
successfully used in many mass transfer
processes in food, such as in drying,
extraction, osmotic dehydration, desalting
and hydration.

• The ultrasounds impose a mechanical pressure on the seed’s cell wall.
• This pressure increases the seed’s porosity, and consequently rises
the seed’s permeability to oxygen and water.
• The alpha-amylase activity inside the seed increases which leads to
increased hydrolysis of the starch.
• Finally, the germination percentage and speed are enhanced.

23. Advantages
• Applied easier compared to the other methods like sand scarification,
acid scarification, and other available methods.
• Ultrasounds only impose mechanical pressure on seeds to break the
dormancy; therefore, no chemicals would contaminate the seeds.
Disadvantages
• Not applicable to all seeds.
• Small size of the available apparatuses.
• A scaling-up is required in order to manufacture huge ultrasound-
emitting sets specialized for seed priming purposes.
