The Basic Elements Of A Contract
A contract is a written or spoken agreement between two or more parties that involves the exchange of
two promises, which is intended to be enforceable by law. The four basic elements are the offer,
consideration, acceptance, and mutuality. When elements are broken down individually, each one is
just as important as the next. If one of these elements are broken or misunderstood, it could mean
result in the contractual agreement becoming not valid and end in lawsuit. The overall purpose of the
contract is for legal purpose and to keep a order within an agreement. The first element of a valid
contract would have to be the offer. You can t have an contract with a having something to offer to
another partner. An offer is when one party ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next step in contracting an agreement is to either accept the offer being put on the table or if the
party does not agree then they enter a counteroffer. A counteroffer, is considered a non acceptance but,
instead a response to an offer that modifies the original offer. Then the original offering party has the
choice to accept, counteroffer back, or deny the offer which would mean the contract would be no
more. If the offer is accepted, then the next step will be mutuality. Mutuality is the agreement of being
a partnership with the offer that has been presented and accepted by both parties, along with the terms
of the contract. When agreeing, thus both parties are legally bound to perform their side of the
contract, if not they will be have broken their contract and are risking being sued. Contracts can be
agreed upon by word and a handshake, but for a contract to hold up in court in certain states in must
be in writing. The statute of limitations for oral contracts is four years. The statute of limitations for
written contracts is six years. When contracts are broken and a party of the agreement decides to begin
process of suing the other party of the contract, courts will be involved. When courts get involved, a
contract is interpreted a certain way. When oral contracts are taken to court, the judge will take in
information from both parties since their is no paper trail of what was agreed

Sustainability Initiatives A Demonstration Of Corporate...
What are the cost benefits for corporations leading sustainable efforts in their communities and should
corporations be financially responsible for the environmental disturbances that they cause, be it
directly or inadvertently? More specifically are the efforts of Wal Mart to implement sustainability
initiatives a demonstration of corporate social responsibility or just greenwashing? Relevant to these
questions we hypothesis that despite the multitude of efforts that are resulting in some groundbreaking
policies for an Oligopoly such as this, that the fact that they still source, manufacture and distribute
products in a manner that is unsustainable which makes these collective efforts an example of social
greenwashing. Investopedia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is this truly a serious initiative for Walmart to use their size for good or is this just greenwashing?
Since their CSR plan announcement Walmart has been making progress towards achieving those goals
but many don t think it s enough or realistically sustainable for the long run. Walmart has received
backlash for their slow adoption of renewable energy, it s cheap products, and it s little progress on
their sustainability index (Gunther, M., 2011). One of Wal mart s initiatives intended to address some
of their inimical externalities is to convert to 100% renewable energy to power their stores. An article
published in 2011 stated that Walmart was powered by only 2% of renewable energy and the ILSR
came out with a report stating less than 2% of renewable energy powers Walmart stores. People were
not impressed with this minimal progress and pointed out that other companies like Starbucks and
Kohls use more renewable energy than Walmart. It was also pointed out that Wal mart is a huge
multinational corporation and that a process like this will take time, especially if they re trying to
avoid raising their costs, which in turn would not benefit the customers. However, in 2013 it was
reported that Wal Mart s 10,800 stores are powered by 21% of renewable energy, which is a decent
amount of growth from

German Imperialism Essay
The Scramble for Africa in the late 19th and early 20th centuries encouraged many different nations to
become involved in colonialism. In this time period, competing European powers carved up the
continent of Africa between themselves, due to a variety of political and economic motives. Generally,
these powers benefited from these land acquisitions. However, Germany s neo imperialist experience
was unlike that of the other powers. Within the colony of Namibia, located in South West Africa, the
real advantages that Germany received were far outweighed by the disadvantages the German empire
faced. Although Germany received elevated political status from occupying colonies, the economic
and military efforts that were invested in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that there was support from Germans to colonise Africa not just for political gain, but for
economic interest as well. Germany was motivated into imperialism by economic opportunities, being
recognised as a political power with an increase of international status, and being able to exercise the
power and influence that would come with colonies.
Germany s imperialist experience in Namibia came with several advantages. These advantages were
of a political and economic nature. Benefits experienced included an increase of trade with other
powers, an increased amount of political influence, and the control over valuable resources in South
West Africa. Firstly, Namibia contained many valuable resources, which Germany had control over.
Resources in Namibia included diamonds, rubber plantations, copper, lead and gold (Unknown
Author, 2004). This stockpile of valuable resources meant that Germany could make massive profits if
the correct steps were taken. Out of all of these commodities, not only is diamond the most valuable,
but it was the most abundant in South West Africa. Access to these minerals greatly expanded
Germany s portfolio of tradable commodities. Secondly, Germany received large profits from trading
its colony s resources with other powers colonies. The direct trade between Germany and Britain
colonies in 1910 was nearly 630 000 British pounds. Over two thirds of this income was from South

Otto Von Bismarck
Otto von Bismarck was an important figure in the unification of Germany. Bismarck was responsible
for transforming a collection of small German states, unifying them into the German empire, and
becoming its first chancellor. Under the rule of William I, Bismarck was appointed as Prime Minister
of Prussia for assistance over budget. Bismarck urged the king to ignore the liberals about the right to
approve taxes and to instead strengthen the army. Thus making Bismarck a leader of a unification
movement. Bismarck success was due in part because he was a master of Realpolitik, or realistic
policies based on the needs of the state. Bismarck knew how to influence public opinion through press
leaks and doctored documents and his alterations to the Ems Telegram were apart of his agenda in
prompting war with France to further strengthen the German empire. The original Ems Telegram was
a report on an encounter between King William I of Prussia and the French ambassador at the time.
Benedetti had been instructed by his superior, Foreign Minister to present the French demand that the
king should guarantee that he would never again permit the candidacy of a Hohenzollern prince to the
Spanish throne. The meeting was informal and took place on the promenade of the Kursaal with the
king s entourage at a discreet distance. Politely, and in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Defining The Constitution Ambit Within India Essay
INTRODUCTION: To define the constitution ambit within which right to life with human dignity
especially right to life livelihood and holistic approach is sine qua non of the constitutional framework
in India. All those things which go all along with the life and make it worth living comes within this.
The right to live basically does not mean the bare life as it was said by Georgio Agamben in his
HOMO SACER book, the life is basically full of all those things which makes life worth living and it
includes the health aspect, the societal values in the status particularly in the norms within the society;
in all those things which make the life with dignity; hence it is not animal life but a political one.
Supreme Court in many judgments held that the life is not bare life devoid of all things in society
rather it includes the basic values which makes life worth living. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi:
According to me, the economic constitution of India, and for the matter of that of the world, should be
such that no one under it should suffer from want of food and clothing. In other words, everybody
should be able to get sufficient work to enable him to make the two ends meet. And, this ideal can be
universally realized only if the means of production of elementary necessaries of life remain under the
control of the masses. These should be freely available to all as God s air and water are, or ought to
be; they should not be made a vehicle of traffic for the exploitation of

d. Political/legal trends There are no specific regulations or laws effecting cameras in general;
however, GoPro is facing infringement allegation. The company is accused of patent design
infringement of the Polaroid Cube. The only political or legal obstacles that stand in the way are those
that will affect the company regrading drones. Air safety is a huge concern for drones and operators
may face charges for violation of federal regulations. e. Sociocultural trends There are nearly 3 billion
social media users and the rise of social media plays a key role on our society. The way we
communicate, live, and view the world is impacted by social media. Millions of videos and photos are
uploaded on a daily basis. This is possible with the help of products like the GoPro that help a

equilibrium lab is to discover the equilibrium constant for the reaction SCN and Fe3+. In addition, this
lab introduced the concepts of Le Chatelier s principle and reintroduced Beer s Law. In addition, this
experiment used the spectrophotometry to measure the equilibrium concentrations of FeSCN2+.
Introduction: Equilibrium is vital in understanding numerous chemical reactions fluctuating from

The key objective of this particular reaction was to relate Le Chatelier s principle and Beer s Law to
discover the equilibrium constant and absorptivity. Le Chatelier declares that if a reaction s conditions
are altered, the equilibrium of the reaction will shift in order to reach equilibrium and be balanced.
During this experiment, whenever a solution was added or mixed at different values, the equilibrium
of the equation was shifted to make more product or reactant (depending on where you add/mix). The
spectrophotometer showed students the hue of the solution thus as a darker color, more product was
shown and the absorptivity varied. In this experiment, many errors came up. With that being said,
errors relating to the spectrophotometer was the main cause of wrong readings and improper data. In
addition to mechanical error, human error like mixing the wrong chemicals together could have
drastically altered the results and data. Conclusion: The spectrophotometry was key in finding the
value for the equilibrium for FeSCN2+, Fe3+, and SCN . Le Chatelier s principle and Beer s law was
used to calculate the molar absorptivity constant for FeSCN2+. In order to understand part two, the
concentration had to be known to calculate the unknown concentrations of FeSCN2+. In the end, the
results in the experiment show that the greater the concentration in the given

Lab Performed 03/11/15 Lab Report 04/07/15
Abstract:
Using solutions of sugar and water alongside cola, density and percent sugar can be related. The
purpose of this lab is to discover how and with what benefit these factors can be related. Using
assorted measurements and the standard curve of the calculated densities and percentages of sugar
solutions, it was learned that cola has an approximate percent sugar of four percent, according to the
calculations of the lab. Other results included actual percent sugar of soda and various statistics on
measured sugar solutions. Introduction
The purpose of this lab is to explore how density can be used to measure sugar content and percent
sugar of beverages not only in the lab, but in the real world. Using the standard curve of the percent
sugar and density of the solutions in the lab, the percent sugar of regular Coke was determined. The
standard curve represented the general trend in the correlation of the values calculated in the lab.
Using the data from the experiment, the actual amount of sugar in the soda could be calculated by
using the percent sugar found by using the standard curve. (If the soda has a mass of x and the percent
sugar is the value y, x ● y = mass of sugar.)
Of course, the simple calculation of percent sugar dividing the mass of the sugar by the mass of the
solution can be

Women s Role Of Women In The Victorian Era
Victorian Era was an era in which women had endless predicaments in their lives. Women had
restriction, such as: what subjects they should study, they were not allowed to vote, they were not
grand their fortune after marriage, she should not leave the domestic sphere, and who should be
submissive. The role model for this concept was Queen Victoria herself, who, together with her
husband, Albert, had nine children and embodied the perfect family. She was even described as the
mother of the nation (BBC, Web). As I strongly disagree with the women s treatment back then, I want
to celebrate in this essay woman who, even a little bit broke the constraints and enjoyed their lives in a
period of oppressions. The beginning of this new women era, in which women asked to be heard,
started with Sunday Schools, in which the majority of volunteers were women, so they begin to go out
and interact with other people. The ones that are to be blamed for the women s situation in Victorian
Period are the women themselves, as Sarah Grand explains in her The New Aspect of the Woman

Examples Of Feminism In The Little Mermaid
Many people believe that the animals and merfolk under the sea just go with the flow. Not everything
under the sea is as perfect and relaxed as it seems to be. There are a lot of flaws with everything under
the sea. The Little Mermaid, by Hans Christian Andersen, contains many forms of the feminist lens
throughout the short story. The feminist lens is trying to force gender equality through works of
literature. In literature your gender can play a part even if you are not aware of it (Brizee Tompkins).
There are a lot of viewpoints to the feminist lens like how men oppress women such as socially,
politically, psychologically, or economically. There is also that in literature women could be
distinguished by their difference from men whether it be his standards or his ethics. Patriarchal
ideology is the idea that Eve was the starting point of all sins and even death (Brizee Tompkins). A lot
of works of literature have been the inspiration of the women s right movement in the early 1900s
which eventually led to the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920.

Essay On How Did The Fall Of The Roman Empire
Could the same mistakes that caused the collapse of Rome happen today in America? The Roman
Empire was founded in 753 BCE by Romulus, and it encompassed most of Europe, Britain, western
Asia, northern Africa and the Mediterranean islands. The Roman Empire prospered and grew for many
years and it was the largest city in the world, it was doing very well until it started to face challenges.
The Roman Empire started to deteriorate and over a period of time, the cities were left in ruins. The
Roman Empire fell for many reasons, the three that affected them the most was the excessive military
spending to defend the empire, barbarian invasions, and urban decay. The extreme amount of money
that was spent on the Roman military was one of the main reasons that Rome to fail. Rome had ample
land from Europe to Asia and they thought that it was vital for them to expand their empire. The

Rome at one point was flourishing and it had many apartments and workplaces but the rent became

was forced to move out and live on the crime infested streets. Because so many people lived on the
streets, the number of cities began to decline. Also, the unemployed, poor people crowded into the
cities and lived off of the government. The emperor was forced to feed these people and this was very
expensive for Rome. Rome needed to get the economy back to being stable but, instead, the economy
got worse and more Romans became poor and homeless. Rome s government should have come up
with a solution to the diminishing of their cities. Rome s economy was vital to Rome not collapsing

Earle Dickson s Inventions
In 1920, Earle Dickson made an invention that would change every parent s, child s and chef s life; the
band aid. Earle s wife was a bit of a klutz and she frequently burned or cut herself while cooking. One
day after an especially bad cut, a lightbulb went off in his head. He had a brilliant idea. He cut patches
of gauze and applied them to strips of adhesive tape, which he then covered with the fabric crinoline.
Dickson worked at Johnson Johnson, and he thought that everyone there would be impressed with his
new invention. Sure enough, when he pitched the idea, his boss loved it. For almost 100 years his
invention has helped millions of people, and most importantly me.
Like Mrs. Dickson, I have been clumsy for nearly all of my life. When I was a child, I fell down and
started bleeding somewhere on my body seemingly every day. For me, living without the band aid
would have been terrible. When I was about four years old, I frequently went to a playground in
Voorhees that was constructed entirely out of wood. At every turn, it seemed like there were little

The Fear Of Death In The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Stalker
Nature, a beautiful yet mysterious part of life that all humans can interpret in different ways. Thanks
to the nature around us, man has been able to fortify what we have and advance in unimaginable ways.
For as long as man has been on earth, inhabitants have been able to explore, interpret, and learn in
areas like religion, relationships and educational advancement. However, the constant fear of death is
always in the back of our minds. With so many advances today, it distracts many of us from noticing
where things all began and came from, nature. That is why, man has created so many different
advances that help us forget our inevitable end. In the Epic of Gilgamesh and the movie Stalker
written by Andrei Tarkovski, both works remind audiences of how people have always used
technology to distract us from the thought of dying. These distractions like, religion, relationships,
education do occupy a huge portion of our life but cannot change our end result; death. A huge
advancement in technology is relationships. No matter what the relationship is between humans have
been building for centuries. These relationships that are created help advance us by disguising our
Deaths. Death is something that people have feared since the beginning of time. In the Epic of
Gilgamesh , the main character is a widely loved and also feared. The relationships Gilgamesh created

Strange Meeting And Journey s End
Strange Meeting and Journey s End both share similar aspects. Both the texts are set in the First World
War and depict in depth what it would be like to be a soldier at the time as well as displaying the
endless strife that the soldiers had to endure for four long years. In Journeys End, Sheriff portrays
many different emotions through the central character Captain Stanhope and similarly in Strange
Meeting, Susan Hill does the same with John Hilliard . In this essay I will compare and contrast the
way that both these central characters are presented in the texts.

On Hilliard s return to the company, Garrett brightens up for the first time in a while. It was if he had
been waiting there for hours of days suggests to us that Garret was eagerly awaiting the officer s
return. When Hilliard states that he thought they would let him back weeks ago, Garret replies No.
You needed the rest . This shows us that Garrett is concerned for Hilliard s welfare. In the war at this
time it wasn t normal for the C.O to really care about lower ranks, however, Garrets concern for
Hilliard suggests that Hilliard is respected by others in the novel. As well as this, further into the act
we see Garret frequently confide in Hilliard. The fact that he acts as almost a father figure to one of
the most respected men in the army shows us how well thought of Hilliard really was.
Throughout Journeys End we see Stanhope s fantastic qualities as a company commander and leader.
He sees things that others would not. We see an example of this when Hibbert attempts to get leave
due to illness , Stanhope sees straight through his act and describes him as another little worm trying
to wriggle home . Stanhope a true war veteran believes it s wrong and cowardice to fake illness in an
attempt to get out of fighting It s a slimy thing to go home if you re not really ill isn t it . This shows
us how good of a leader Stanhope really is as nobody else managed to see through Hibbert s pretence
but himself. This idea of Stanhope being a great

Summary Of The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
Women, more than men, have been limited and punished because of the gender they were born into.
This has been true in cultures and societies for many years, and Africa is no exception. The book The
No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, by Alexander McCall Smith, shows the present struggles of women
that are affected by gender expectations, due to cultural influence, in Botswana.
The African culture is something to be amazed by. This is knowledge I acquired from personal
experience while living in Africa. Sadly, however, it is also home to traditional ways which oppress
and discriminate against women. Especially in smaller villages, where the ancient culture is more
prevalent, women are classed inferior to men. The character Happy Bapetsi, a bright and young
Batswana woman, witnesses gender discrimination everyday in her professional life. This limits her
future gravely and allows for injustice to prevail in a modern society. ... Show more content on

Heterogenous Mixture Lab
Discussion: In this lab, we needed to determine the percent calcium carbonate in a heterogenous
mixture and determine the molar volume of carbon dioxide gas at 273 K and 760 torr. Calcium
Carbonate is found in many different types of substances and formulations. It is an important
inorganic compound found in the Earth s crust. We also used the idea of standard temperature and
pressure which means that one mole of an ideal gas occupies 22.4 L. Since carbon dioxide is not an
ideal gas, it s molar volume will be different. We need to calculate the CO2 gas evolved from the
reaction be collected, its volume, and the calculation of the mass difference of CaCO3 mixture before

Essay about The Shattered Dream of Communism
Many people all over the world look for an outlet for which they can improve their quality of life.
They strive to find the means of transforming their dreams into reality. Communism, to people
everywhere, has offered the means for transforming the dream of economic equality into reality,
throughout history. Communism, however, like various other political and economic movements in
the history of man, has become just another shattered dream. Communism is a political and economic
movement brought out to the public in the mid nineteenth century. The communist s main demand is
the abolition of private property, which in turn will put an end to any present class system. This is

Their victory only comes from the union of the proletarians, which is helped by the improvement of
communications created by the modern industry (Marx 46). There haven t always been proletarians,
though. They originated in the industrial revolution of England in the last half of the eighteenth
century (Engels). The first industrial revolution began in Britain around 1750. It was during this time
that many people turned to industry rather than farming to make a living (Wilkinson 70). Friedrich
Engels often compared the average proletariat to a slave except one aspect. The slave is sold once and
for all; the proletarian must sell himself daily and hourly (Engels). The opposite class of the proletariat
was the bourgeois. This was considered the modern capitalist class. According to Marx and Engels
they were the owners of the means of social production and employers of wage labor (34). The
bourgeois, in other words, were the employers; the business men who sat around while their
employees worked painstaking hours. Now the capitalists, who have always been the opposing party
of the communists, was the political power. In the Communist Manifesto Marx and Engels state
political power as merely the organized power of one class for oppressing another (61). As the
industrial revolution went on and became an international revolution, more factories were built and the
two classes of people emerged; the huge army of working class people (or

Employee Rights in the Workplace
Abstract Our world of technological advances is growing day by day. So much so, in fact, that new
laws are created to help determine the legal responsibilities and actions to be taken if an incident
occurs. The advantages and disadvantages of monitoring and being monitored will be discussed. Some
of the laws that represent the employer and employee as well as why an employer would want to
monitor an employee will also are discussed. Although employee monitoring is beneficial to an
employer for a variety of reasons, it is better for an employer to leave an employees private life away
from the workplace private.

(¶6) A second reason would be to track the amount of time an employee spends away from the
computer or how long the employees computer is idle. (¶6).
If we, as employees put ourselves in the employer s shoes, we would want to know if our employees
were being productive for the job that they were hired to do. If someone were to perform a search on
the Internet for employee monitoring tools, he or she would find that the market is flooded with these
types of tools. In 1993, there were an estimated 27 million worldwide employees being monitoring in
the workplace and that number is still growing (¶8).
Advantages and Disadvantages of Monitoring Some of the advantages of employee monitoring are
that email use can be limited, viruses can be prevented from corrupting company computer systems,
inappropriate acts and uses of language can be intercepted before any harm is done, and companies
can stop leaks of proprietary information. Some of the disadvantages of employee monitoring are, as
stated earlier, an employees feeling of lack of trust, a feeling of no privacy at work, and the possibility
of employers being sued by employees for fear that their privacy has been violated. One type of
violation that can occur happened to a Massachusetts college secretary while she was changing clothes
in a place she thought was safe. (Kitchen, 2006). She felt violated because her boss never informed
her that she was being videotaped.

Equal Pay Act Of 1964 Essay
There are four Acts passed by Congress that were pivotal for equality in the American workforce.
Until these laws were passed by Congress, people of color and woman suffered grave injustices in the
form of hiring, income, promotion, and termination. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended the Jim Crow
laws of the South that promoted segregation and many laws of inequality that plagued the southern
states in America. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 helped establish equal pay for women in the workforce.
The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 established litigation for working pregnant women. The
Civil Rights Act of 1991 greater enforced the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and held organization
monetarily responsible for violations of discriminations to minorities. The learning of these important
laws will help an individual better understand their rights as it pertains to employment in the

Rogers View Of The Good Life
My Thoughts: Rogers description of the good life as a direction is incredibly different from the
American perspective that happiness is a singular goal one can achieve. We often think that, once we
reach a point in life where we re happy, that we ll stay that way indefinitely. Rogers perspective is less
palatable, but probably more accurate.
My Thoughts: To me, this was Roger s most interesting and thought provoking quote. When he says
that someone living the good life would very likely not be a conformist, it makes me think about the
fact that most people are conformists. I don t think being a conformist is a fixed aspect of who people

Social Structure Of France During The French Revolution Essay
The French Revolution was a time of period where social and political was a disruption in France that
lasted from 1789 until 1799. This time of period affected Social Structure of France prior to the
French Revolution. The factors that caused this revolution was due to having a bad government
system, weak superiority, and inequality of the classes of people in France during the war. In this
research, I will define and explain how Social Structure contributed to the French Revolution
Resentment of royal authoritarianism. The three estates that social structure consists of are first estate
which are the clergies, second estate known as the Nobleman, and third estate which are the
Bourgeoisie, peasants, and workers. The Revolution did not omit sharp distinctions among the social
groups, neither did it alter the distribution of wealth. This caused them to divide into these three
groups called as estates.
The French Revolution were influenced by many factors such as the Enlightenment ideals, concepts of
popular sovereignty, and unchallengeable rights. France s costly involvement in the Revolution and
excessive spending by King Louis XVI and his predecessor had left the country on the brink of
bankruptcy. Not only were the royal coffers exhausted, but two decades of poor cereal harvests,
drought, cattle disease and skyrocketing bread prices had kindled unrest among peasants and the urban
poor. (history.com).These actions played a critical role in shaping modern nations. As

Review Of A Fan Extension
A fan extension takes an original work and recreates it. Fan extensions are a way for admirers to pay
tribute to the stories and characters that they love and feel a connection to. Fans want to connect with
their favorite stories, to be able to comment and play around with the characters and their storyworlds.
An advancement in technology has increased opportunity for fans to participate and create new pieces
of art. José van Dijck states this perfectly, Audiences, empowered by these new technologies,
occupying a space at the intersection between old and new media, are demanding the right to
participate within the culture (2009). These fans are active members of what Henry Jenkins has termed
participatory culture, people who not only want to view and participate in the media, they want to be
able to have a lasting effect on the story. Fan created work is an important factor in today s culture,
especially our youth. People should be allowed to participate in fan creations with minimum
opposition from the copyright owners. There are a multiple types of fan created extensions and
compressions, one of which is fan films. Fan films are the ultimate way for devotees to pay tribute to
the characters they love. They allow fans the chance to show how their beloved heroes and antiheroes
should be portrayed or how they believe they should be portrayed. Fan films can take the storyworld

Christianity Dominates American Society And Children Essay
Christianity dominates American society, and due to this any sort of religious rebellion is
automatically seen as hearsay and blasphemy that poisons our society and children. While in the
college setting we try to be more open to other ideas, people still look down on alternate religions as
the wrong way. As for the Satanist church, they re seen as downright evil, certainly a popular
misconception in our culture. When LaVey started the Temple of Satan in the 1960 s, he was poking
fun at our uptight Christian society (Urban, 170.) Modern LaVey Satanism is a mixture between
serious ritual and satire, resulting in a strange community and an even more passionate following.
Throughout our class, we have been learning about what makes a religion a religion, the people
involved, and the culture that relates to its very core. Satanism as a whole is partially religious, and
partially atheist. Nevertheless, this community is fighting for representation in the media, in schools,
and in the community as much as the next religion. Satanism is pushing against the dominant religion,
and in doing so, opening the floodgates for itself as well as other religious groups for their right to
religious freedoms in the United States. In my paper, I will discuss various branches of Satanism, with
a focus on the Satanic Temple s movement and it s fame and reception in today s media. From a
modern Christian perspective, Satan is a representation of worship of all things evil. However, modern

The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Essay
The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
In her feminist critique of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Anne Millard Daughtey described Buffy as a
show which obviously promotes female strength and power (159). Buffy herself is a symbol of female
empowerment (149); as feminists we can all take comfort in the fact that Buffy kicks butt and so can
we all (164). Sherryl Vint agrees that Buffy is a positive role model for young women, one which
feminism should celebrate (para. 3). I find this understanding of Buffy, both the character and the
series, to be very problematic, and with this paper I aim to undertake a revised feminist critique of the

Truly, in the Buffyverse, there is no such thing as woman .
Prior to embarking upon my own analysis of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it this pertinent to consider
Joss Whedon s envisioning of his series, and in particular, his heroine, Buffy. In interviews he has
often explained his desire to create an alternative ending for the horror movie:
It was pretty much the blond girl in the alley in the horror movie who keeps getting killed ... I felt bad
for her, but she was always much more interesting to me than the other women. She was fun, she had
sex, she was vivacious. But then she would get punished for it. Literally, I just had that image, that
scene, in my mind, like the trailer for a movie what if the girl goes into that dark alley. And the
monster follows her. And she destroys him. (Quoted in Vint, para. 6)
Whilst we see here that Whedon s intention is to subvert the conventional horror movie/slasher genre,
I m not sure that he is successful. He is running the considerable risk of merely replacing the fetishised
female victim with a fetishised female hero; she is still a pretty blond girl, she is still fun, she is still
sexual, she is still Barbie with

The tune was hot and enthusiastic and shown dialogue without using any words. The ensemble played

that a story is told of the instrumental nature of it, just as much as when the lyrics are being sung by
Celine Dion. I found listening to this tune a rewarding experience, and it turned out to be a wonderful
start to the jazz concert in that it was not unfamiliar to the crowd. Waltz for Debby got me question
why someone would write this kind of old and whom Debby was sounding tune for someone he or she

The Great Debate to Leave Home
Traversing lands unknown to one before has always been a subject of mystery, as these foreign sights
and wonders give way to many unexpected discoveries to the naïve mind. In any society, the idea of
travelling abroad is still taboo in most circles the ethnocentric ideals of most traditional cultures, while
not outright forbidding, but still do look down on the practice of leaving home with goals of success.
Whether it be religious thoughts of demons abroad or wanting to keep handy laborers at home, or any
other reason, there is always reason for those wanting to wanting to keep such virile young at home,
and they will often attempt to do so. Those leaving will give up their identity, but not in any kind of

pregnant. The history of Miller Brewing Company began in the mid 19th century, when a determined
immigrant, Frederick John Miller, born November 24, 1824, brought his passion for beer to the United
States. Miller, who had been a renowned German brewer since 1849, arrived in the United States and
settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1855. In 1855, Miller purchased a small brewery called the Plank
Road Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for $2,300. Through his determination and character,
Frederick Miller began building his own American dream barrel by barrel. He produced the finest
quality beer, made from locally grown hops and barley, and using a unique brewer s yeast that he hand
carried from Germany. (The yeast they use in our beers today is a descendant of that very yeast so
treasured by our founder!) Before his death in 1888, Frederick Miller became one of the early pioneers
of bottling beer. After his passing, Frederick Miller s immediate family members continued his legacy,
and guided the company with progressive, uncompromising character through two world wars and
prohibition. In 1903, Miller named its most popular beer, High Life, and the Champagne of Bottled
Beer was born! Today, Miller s Brewery in Milwaukee (and the historic

Nat Turner Rebellion Research Paper
One primary source document that shows how Nat Turners rebellion instilled fear into the white
population was a letter written from Governor John Floyd of Virginia to Governor James Hamilton of
South Carolina on November 19, 1831. This document discusses how Governor Floyd believes
preachers were a leading factor that lead to the Nat Turner slave rebellion because they used religion
to encourage African Americans to resist slavery. In this letter Governor Floyd states, They began first,
by making them religious their conversations were of that character telling the blacks God was no
respecter of persons the black man was as good as the white that all men were born free and equal that
they cannot serve two masters that the white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another point that was addressed in this primary source document written by Governor Floyd was
how women that taught African Americans how to read and write were also part of the problem that
lead up to this rebellion. Governor Floyd stated finally our females and of the most respectable were
persuaded that it was piety to teach negroes to read and write, to the end that they might read the
Scriptures many of them became tutoresses in Sunday schools and, pious distributors of tracts, from
the New York Tract Society. Later in his letter he discusses how African Americans use their new
capability to read and write to read scriptures and pamphlets provided by the priests to further
persuade them to rebel against white authority. At the end of this document governor Floyd states I
shall in my annual message recommend that laws be passed To confine the Slaves to the estates of
their masters prohibit negroes from preaching absolutely to drive from this State all free negroes This
letter is important to analyze when studying the effects of the Nat Turner rebellion in

Bully In Odd Girl Out
Odd Girl Out is a 2005 film focusing on Vanessa Snyder and her friend group. Vanessa and her friends
are high school students who deal with the effects of bullying. More specifically, Vanessa deals with
the effects of bullying, while her friends take active parts in the role of the bully. This film deals with
topics discussed in a tenth grade health class such as bullying and the stages and places to be taken in
it, as well as self confidence. The first instance of bullying was immediate, happening within the first
few minutes of the film. We see Stacey, Nikki, and Vanessa compliment Tiffany s skirt, only to turn
around and make fun of it. This was harmless, of course, because it was between the small group.
However, it was bullying nonetheless, and the already nasty attitude the girls have towards other
people festered into negative feelings towards each other. This leads to a much more harsh and out of
control form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using the bully circle as a reference, one can say that Nikki was a definite bully, as she started the
whole persecution of Vanessa. It can be debated whether Stacy would be considered a bully,
henchman, or disengaged onlooker, as she watched Nikki and her peers torment Vanessa, and was
constantly aware of the acts being committed, but does not join in on it. That is, until Stacy gives
Vanessa false information about the party, leading her to go to the wrong place, which bumps her up
into being a henchman, who takes an active role in the bullying. Emily, a friend that Vanessa makes
through the events of the movie, would be considered a resistor or defender, since she is constantly
standing up for Vanessa and against the tyranny of the girls bullying her. Other students have other
roles in the bullying, such as Tony, who would be a disengaged onlooker, because we do not see him
partake in the bullying nor do we see him stand up for

The Ottoman And The Aztec Empire
Comparative Essay The post classical era in history (600CE 1250CE) saw the rise and fall of many
great empires. In the early part of the era, the Islamic Caliphates acted as a core region in the Middle
East, heavily influencing the region around them. On the other side of the world, the Aztec Empire
rose to power in the later part of the era with minimal trans regional influence. Although on different
sides of the world, both empires found similar ways to adapt to their diverse environments. In the post
classical era, the rise of the Islamic Caliphates and the Aztec Empire were similar in that they
established cohesion through their respective cultures and used military conquest to come to power.
Although there are similarities in the rise of power in the Caliphates and the Aztec Empire, there is a
difference in the speed of expansion given that the Caliphates were located in a central trading region
while the Aztec Empire was not.
Both the Caliphates and the Aztec Empire show a similarity in how each used their cultures to achieve
cohesion among their respective empires. In the Caliphates, Islamic culture helped unite the
population while Aztec ritualistic culture unified the ethnically diverse peoples of the Aztec Empire.
Islamic culture unified much of the region under Umayyad and Abbasid rule. As Islamic merchants
and missionaries spread Islam to the people, forms of Islamic culture spread with them. Islamic art,
sciences, maths, medicine, architecture, Islamic

Critical Angle And Total Internal Reflection
Critical Angle Total Internal Reflection

Ms. Vink
Purpose: See attached sheet, labelled SNC2D Lab Sheet .
Related Theory:
Law of Reflection: Reflection and refraction are common properties of light. When a ray of light
comes into contact with the surface of some material, part of the ray is reflected and part of it is
absorbed. In other words, reflection occurs when an incident ray hits a reflective surface and bounces
off. The law of reflection states that the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence (always in
respect to the normal) and that the incident ray, the normal line and the reflected ray are all located in
the same plane.
Snell s Law of Refraction: When a ray of light reaches a boundary between two transparent mediums,
reflection and refraction occur. Refraction takes place when rays of light bend across the boundary
into the second medium which causes a change in the light s velocity. The denser the medium, the
slower the light.
Total Internal Reflection: Internal reflection refers to light travelling from a higher index medium to a
lower index medium, which causes the ray to bend away from the normal, so the exit angle is greater
than the incident angle. As the angle of incidence increases, so does the angle of refraction. Total
internal reflection takes place when the angle of incidence is greater than the

  • 4. The Basic Elements Of A Contract A contract is a written or spoken agreement between two or more parties that involves the exchange of two promises, which is intended to be enforceable by law. The four basic elements are the offer, consideration, acceptance, and mutuality. When elements are broken down individually, each one is just as important as the next. If one of these elements are broken or misunderstood, it could mean result in the contractual agreement becoming not valid and end in lawsuit. The overall purpose of the contract is for legal purpose and to keep a order within an agreement. The first element of a valid contract would have to be the offer. The next step in contracting an agreement is to either accept the offer being put on the table or if the party does not agree then they enter a counteroffer. A counteroffer, is considered a non acceptance but, instead a response to an offer that modifies the original offer. Then the original offering party has the choice to accept, counteroffer back, or deny the offer which would mean the contract would be no more. If the offer is accepted, then the next step will be mutuality. Mutuality is the agreement of being a partnership with the offer that has been presented and accepted by both parties, along with the terms of the contract. When agreeing, thus both parties are legally bound to perform their side of the contract, if not they will be have broken their contract and are risking being sued. Contracts can be agreed upon by word and a handshake, but for a contract to hold up in court in certain states in must be in writing. The statute of limitations for oral contracts is four years. The statute of limitations for written contracts is six years. When contracts are broken and a party of the agreement decides to begin process of suing the other party of the contract, courts will be involved. When courts get involved, a contract is interpreted a certain way. When oral contracts are taken to court, the judge will take in information from both parties since their is no paper trail of what was agreed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What are the cost benefits for corporations leading sustainable efforts in their communities and should corporations be financially responsible for the environmental disturbances that they cause, be it directly or inadvertently? Since their CSR plan announcement Walmart has been making progress towards achieving those goals but many don t think it s enough or realistically sustainable for the long run. Walmart has received backlash for their slow adoption of renewable energy, it s cheap products, and it s little progress on their sustainability index (Gunther, M., 2011). One of Wal mart s initiatives intended to address some of their inimical externalities is to convert to 100% renewable energy to power their stores. An article published in 2011 stated that Walmart was powered by only 2% of renewable energy and the ILSR came out with a report stating less than 2% of renewable energy powers Walmart stores. People were not impressed with this minimal progress and pointed out that other companies like Starbucks and Kohls use more renewable energy than Walmart. It was also pointed out that Wal mart is a huge multinational corporation and that a process like this will take time, especially if they re trying to avoid raising their costs, which in turn would not benefit the customers. However, in 2013 it was reported that Wal Mart s 10,800 stores are powered by 21% of renewable energy, which is a decent amount of growth from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. German Imperialism Essay The Scramble for Africa in the late 19th and early 20th centuries encouraged many different nations to become involved in colonialism. In this time period, competing European powers carved up the continent of Africa between themselves, due to a variety of political and economic motives. Generally, these powers benefited from these land acquisitions. However, Germany s neo imperialist experience was unlike that of the other powers. This shows that there was support from Germans to colonise Africa not just for political gain, but for economic interest as well. Germany was motivated into imperialism by economic opportunities, being recognised as a political power with an increase of international status, and being able to exercise the power and influence that would come with colonies. Germany s imperialist experience in Namibia came with several advantages. These advantages were of a political and economic nature. Benefits experienced included an increase of trade with other powers, an increased amount of political influence, and the control over valuable resources in South West Africa. Firstly, Namibia contained many valuable resources, which Germany had control over. Resources in Namibia included diamonds, rubber plantations, copper, lead and gold (Unknown Author, 2004). This stockpile of valuable resources meant that Germany could make massive profits if the correct steps were taken. Out of all of these commodities, not only is diamond the most valuable, but it was the most abundant in South West Africa. Access to these minerals greatly expanded Germany s portfolio of tradable commodities. Secondly, Germany received large profits from trading its colony s resources with other powers colonies. • 7. Otto Von Bismarck Otto von Bismarck was an important figure in the unification of Germany. Bismarck was responsible for transforming a collection of small German states, unifying them into the German empire, and becoming its first chancellor. Under the rule of William I, Bismarck was appointed as Prime Minister of Prussia for assistance over budget. Bismarck urged the king to ignore the liberals about the right to approve taxes and to instead strengthen the army. Thus making Bismarck a leader of a unification movement. Bismarck success was due in part because he was a master of Realpolitik, or realistic policies based on the needs of the state. Bismarck knew how to influence public opinion through press leaks and doctored documents and his alterations to the Ems Telegram were apart of his agenda in prompting war with France to further strengthen the German empire. The original Ems Telegram was a report on an encounter between King William I of Prussia and the French ambassador at the time. Benedetti had been instructed by his superior, Foreign Minister to present the French demand that the king should guarantee that he would never again permit the candidacy of a Hohenzollern prince to the Spanish throne. The meeting was informal and took place on the promenade of the Kursaal with the king s entourage at a discreet distance. • 8. Defining The Constitution Ambit Within India Essay INTRODUCTION: To define the constitution ambit within which right to life with human dignity especially right to life livelihood and holistic approach is sine qua non of the constitutional framework in India. All those things which go all along with the life and make it worth living comes within this. The right to live basically does not mean the bare life as it was said by Georgio Agamben in his HOMO SACER book, the life is basically full of all those things which makes life worth living and it includes the health aspect, the societal values in the status particularly in the norms within the society; in all those things which make the life with dignity; hence it is not animal life but a political one. Supreme Court in many judgments held that the life is not bare life devoid of all things in society rather it includes the basic values which makes life worth living. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi: According to me, the economic constitution of India, and for the matter of that of the world, should be such that no one under it should suffer from want of food and clothing. In other words, everybody should be able to get sufficient work to enable him to make the two ends meet. And, this ideal can be universally realized only if the means of production of elementary necessaries of life remain under the control of the masses. The key objective of this particular reaction was to relate Le Chatelier s principle and Beer s Law to discover the equilibrium constant and absorptivity. Le Chatelier declares that if a reaction s conditions are altered, the equilibrium of the reaction will shift in order to reach equilibrium and be balanced. During this experiment, whenever a solution was added or mixed at different values, the equilibrium of the equation was shifted to make more product or reactant (depending on where you add/mix). The spectrophotometer showed students the hue of the solution thus as a darker color, more product was shown and the absorptivity varied. In this experiment, many errors came up. With that being said, errors relating to the spectrophotometer was the main cause of wrong readings and improper data. In addition to mechanical error, human error like mixing the wrong chemicals together could have drastically altered the results and data. Conclusion: The spectrophotometry was key in finding the value for the equilibrium for FeSCN2+, Fe3+, and SCN . Le Chatelier s principle and Beer s law was used to calculate the molar absorptivity constant for FeSCN2+. In order to understand part two, the concentration had to be known to calculate the unknown concentrations of FeSCN2+. The Relationship Between Density And Sugar Content The Relationship Between Density and Sugar Content Danielle Shaub Partners: Emily Alexander, Bill Dempsey, Shayla Ho Lab Performed 03/11/15 Lab Report 04/07/15 Abstract: Using solutions of sugar and water alongside cola, density and percent sugar can be related. The purpose of this lab is to discover how and with what benefit these factors can be related. Using assorted measurements and the standard curve of the calculated densities and percentages of sugar solutions, it was learned that cola has an approximate percent sugar of four percent, according to the calculations of the lab. Other results included actual percent sugar of soda and various statistics on measured sugar solutions. Introduction The purpose of this lab is to explore how density can be used to measure sugar content and percent sugar of beverages not only in the lab, but in the real world. Using the standard curve of the percent sugar and density of the solutions in the lab, the percent sugar of regular Coke was determined. The standard curve represented the general trend in the correlation of the values calculated in the lab. Using the data from the experiment, the actual amount of sugar in the soda could be calculated by using the percent sugar found by using the standard curve. (If the soda has a mass of x and the percent sugar is the value y, x ● y = mass of sugar.) Of course, the simple calculation of percent sugar dividing the mass of the sugar by the mass of the solution can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Women s Role Of Women In The Victorian Era Victorian Era was an era in which women had endless predicaments in their lives. Women had restriction, such as: what subjects they should study, they were not allowed to vote, they were not grand their fortune after marriage, she should not leave the domestic sphere, and who should be submissive. The role model for this concept was Queen Victoria herself, who, together with her husband, Albert, had nine children and embodied the perfect family. She was even described as the mother of the nation (BBC, Web). As I strongly disagree with the women s treatment back then, I want to celebrate in this essay woman who, even a little bit broke the constraints and enjoyed their lives in a period of oppressions. The beginning of this new women era, in which women asked to be heard, started with Sunday Schools, in which the majority of volunteers were women, so they begin to go out and interact with other people. Not everything under the sea is as perfect and relaxed as it seems to be. There are a lot of flaws with everything under the sea. The Little Mermaid, by Hans Christian Andersen, contains many forms of the feminist lens throughout the short story. The feminist lens is trying to force gender equality through works of literature. In literature your gender can play a part even if you are not aware of it (Brizee Tompkins). There are a lot of viewpoints to the feminist lens like how men oppress women such as socially, politically, psychologically, or economically. There is also that in literature women could be distinguished by their difference from men whether it be his standards or his ethics. Patriarchal ideology is the idea that Eve was the starting point of all sins and even death (Brizee Tompkins). A lot of works of literature have been the inspiration of the women s right movement in the early 1900s which eventually led to the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920. Earle s wife was a bit of a klutz and she frequently burned or cut herself while cooking. One day after an especially bad cut, a lightbulb went off in his head. He had a brilliant idea. He cut patches of gauze and applied them to strips of adhesive tape, which he then covered with the fabric crinoline. Dickson worked at Johnson Johnson, and he thought that everyone there would be impressed with his new invention. Sure enough, when he pitched the idea, his boss loved it. For almost 100 years his invention has helped millions of people, and most importantly me. Like Mrs. Dickson, I have been clumsy for nearly all of my life. When I was a child, I fell down and started bleeding somewhere on my body seemingly every day. For me, living without the band aid would have been terrible. MDMAAssistant Psychotherapy Summary This article was about the pilot study on the use of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) assistant psychotherapy to treatment post traumatic distress disorder (PTSD). The United States from 1970 1985 and Switzerland from 1988 1993 had used MDMA legally as a prescription drug to enhance psychotherapy and early results suggest that they were helpful in trauma related disorders (Oehen, Traber, Widmer, Schnyder, 2013). MDMA in the study was a pure stain due to its creation in a laboratory, unlike a street stain which contains substitutes. This study was conducted with participants from the German speaking parts of Switzerland, as the United States had classified it illegal since 1985. The study was meant to provide a safe environment for the use of the psychedelic drug within a treatment setting. As an MDMA induced state elicits reduced fear which might facilitate an environment in processing of traumatic events and a better way to encode the positive emotional experiences. • 21. Summary Of The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency Women, more than men, have been limited and punished because of the gender they were born into. This has been true in cultures and societies for many years, and Africa is no exception. The book The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, by Alexander McCall Smith, shows the present struggles of women that are affected by gender expectations, due to cultural influence, in Botswana. The African culture is something to be amazed by. This is knowledge I acquired from personal experience while living in Africa. Sadly, however, it is also home to traditional ways which oppress and discriminate against women. Especially in smaller villages, where the ancient culture is more prevalent, women are classed inferior to men. The character Happy Bapetsi, a bright and young Batswana woman, witnesses gender discrimination everyday in her professional life. This limits her future gravely and allows for injustice to prevail in a modern society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There haven t always been proletarians, though. They originated in the industrial revolution of England in the last half of the eighteenth century (Engels). The first industrial revolution began in Britain around 1750. It was during this time that many people turned to industry rather than farming to make a living (Wilkinson 70). Friedrich Engels often compared the average proletariat to a slave except one aspect. The slave is sold once and for all; the proletarian must sell himself daily and hourly (Engels). The opposite class of the proletariat was the bourgeois. This was considered the modern capitalist class. According to Marx and Engels they were the owners of the means of social production and employers of wage labor (34). The bourgeois, in other words, were the employers; the business men who sat around while their employees worked painstaking hours. Now the capitalists, who have always been the opposing party of the communists, was the political power. In the Communist Manifesto Marx and Engels state political power as merely the organized power of one class for oppressing another (61). This time of period affected Social Structure of France prior to the French Revolution. The factors that caused this revolution was due to having a bad government system, weak superiority, and inequality of the classes of people in France during the war. In this research, I will define and explain how Social Structure contributed to the French Revolution Resentment of royal authoritarianism. The three estates that social structure consists of are first estate which are the clergies, second estate known as the Nobleman, and third estate which are the Bourgeoisie, peasants, and workers. The Revolution did not omit sharp distinctions among the social groups, neither did it alter the distribution of wealth. This caused them to divide into these three groups called as estates. The French Revolution were influenced by many factors such as the Enlightenment ideals, concepts of popular sovereignty, and unchallengeable rights. France s costly involvement in the Revolution and excessive spending by King Louis XVI and his predecessor had left the country on the brink of bankruptcy. Christianity Dominates American Society And Children Essay Christianity dominates American society, and due to this any sort of religious rebellion is automatically seen as hearsay and blasphemy that poisons our society and children. While in the college setting we try to be more open to other ideas, people still look down on alternate religions as the wrong way. As for the Satanist church, they re seen as downright evil, certainly a popular misconception in our culture. When LaVey started the Temple of Satan in the 1960 s, he was poking fun at our uptight Christian society (Urban, 170.) Modern LaVey Satanism is a mixture between serious ritual and satire, resulting in a strange community and an even more passionate following. Throughout our class, we have been learning about what makes a religion a religion, the people involved, and the culture that relates to its very core. Satanism as a whole is partially religious, and partially atheist. Nevertheless, this community is fighting for representation in the media, in schools, and in the community as much as the next religion. Satanism is pushing against the dominant religion, and in doing so, opening the floodgates for itself as well as other religious groups for their right to religious freedoms in the United States. If you go to the bars a lot, then you know who the drinkers are because of their big beer belly s hanging out of their shirt. Drinking beer, if you ask me, can make a man look like he s pregnant. The history of Miller Brewing Company began in the mid 19th century, when a determined immigrant, Frederick John Miller, born November 24, 1824, brought his passion for beer to the United States. Miller, who had been a renowned German brewer since 1849, arrived in the United States and settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1855. In 1855, Miller purchased a small brewery called the Plank Road Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for $2,300. Through his determination and character, Frederick Miller began building his own American dream barrel by barrel. He produced the finest quality beer, made from locally grown hops and barley, and using a unique brewer s yeast that he hand carried from Germany. (The yeast they use in our beers today is a descendant of that very yeast so treasured by our founder!) Before his death in 1888, Frederick Miller became one of the early pioneers of bottling beer. After his passing, Frederick Miller s immediate family members continued his legacy, and guided the company with progressive, uncompromising character through two world wars and prohibition. In 1903, Miller named its most popular beer, High Life, and the Champagne of Bottled Beer was born! Today, Miller s Brewery in Milwaukee (and the historic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another point that was addressed in this primary source document written by Governor Floyd was how women that taught African Americans how to read and write were also part of the problem that lead up to this rebellion. Governor Floyd stated finally our females and of the most respectable were persuaded that it was piety to teach negroes to read and write, to the end that they might read the Scriptures many of them became tutoresses in Sunday schools and, pious distributors of tracts, from the New York Tract Society. Later in his letter he discusses how African Americans use their new capability to read and write to read scriptures and pamphlets provided by the priests to further persuade them to rebel against white authority. • 43. Bully In Odd Girl Out Odd Girl Out is a 2005 film focusing on Vanessa Snyder and her friend group. Vanessa and her friends are high school students who deal with the effects of bullying. More specifically, Vanessa deals with the effects of bullying, while her friends take active parts in the role of the bully. This film deals with topics discussed in a tenth grade health class such as bullying and the stages and places to be taken in it, as well as self confidence. The first instance of bullying was immediate, happening within the first few minutes of the film. We see Stacey, Nikki, and Vanessa compliment Tiffany s skirt, only to turn around and make fun of it. This was harmless, of course, because it was between the small group. However, it was bullying nonetheless, and the already nasty attitude the girls have towards other people festered into negative feelings towards each other. This leads to a much more harsh and out of control form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using the bully circle as a reference, one can say that Nikki was a definite bully, as she started the whole persecution of Vanessa. It can be debated whether Stacy would be considered a bully, henchman, or disengaged onlooker, as she watched Nikki and her peers torment Vanessa, and was constantly aware of the acts being committed, but does not join in on it. That is, until Stacy gives Vanessa false information about the party, leading her to go to the wrong place, which bumps her up into being a henchman, who takes an active role in the bullying. Emily, a friend that Vanessa makes through the events of the movie, would be considered a resistor or defender, since she is constantly standing up for Vanessa and against the tyranny of the girls bullying her. Other students have other roles in the bullying, such as Tony, who would be a disengaged onlooker, because we do not see him partake in the bullying nor do we see him stand up for ... • 45. The Ottoman And The Aztec Empire Comparative Essay The post classical era in history (600CE 1250CE) saw the rise and fall of many great empires. In the early part of the era, the Islamic Caliphates acted as a core region in the Middle East, heavily influencing the region around them. On the other side of the world, the Aztec Empire rose to power in the later part of the era with minimal trans regional influence. Although on different sides of the world, both empires found similar ways to adapt to their diverse environments. In the post classical era, the rise of the Islamic Caliphates and the Aztec Empire were similar in that they established cohesion through their respective cultures and used military conquest to come to power. Although there are similarities in the rise of power in the Caliphates and the Aztec Empire, there is a difference in the speed of expansion given that the Caliphates were located in a central trading region while the Aztec Empire was not. Both the Caliphates and the Aztec Empire show a similarity in how each used their cultures to achieve cohesion among their respective empires. In the Caliphates, Islamic culture helped unite the population while Aztec ritualistic culture unified the ethnically diverse peoples of the Aztec Empire. Islamic culture unified much of the region under Umayyad and Abbasid rule. As Islamic merchants and missionaries spread Islam to the people, forms of Islamic culture spread with them. • 46. Critical Angle And Total Internal Reflection Critical Angle Total Internal Reflection Kate Graham Partner: Samantha Dekart Monday, November 9, 2015 SNC2D Ms. Vink Purpose: See attached sheet, labelled SNC2D Lab Sheet . Related Theory: Law of Reflection: Reflection and refraction are common properties of light. When a ray of light comes into contact with the surface of some material, part of the ray is reflected and part of it is absorbed. In other words, reflection occurs when an incident ray hits a reflective surface and bounces off. The law of reflection states that the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence (always in respect to the normal) and that the incident ray, the normal line and the reflected ray are all located in the same plane. Snell s Law of Refraction: When a ray of light reaches a boundary between two transparent mediums, reflection and refraction occur. Refraction takes place when rays of light bend across the boundary into the second medium which causes a change in the light s velocity. The denser the medium, the slower the light. Total Internal Reflection: Internal reflection refers to light travelling from a higher index medium to a lower index medium, which causes the ray to bend away from the normal, so the exit angle is greater than the incident angle. As the angle of incidence increases, so does the angle of refraction. Total internal reflection takes place when the angle of incidence is greater than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
