Scientific Essay Writing
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of "Scientific Essay Writing" can be a challenging endeavor.
It requires a comprehensive understanding of the scientific method, research methodologies, and
the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and concise manner. The writer must navigate
through a sea of scientific literature, critically analyze various perspectives, and synthesize the
information into a cohesive argument.
Moreover, the task involves the mastery of academic writing conventions, including proper
citation styles and adherence to formatting guidelines. Precision in language is crucial to
communicate complex scientific concepts accurately, and striking the right balance between
technical detail and accessibility for a broader audience poses an additional challenge.
The process begins with meticulous research, followed by the organization of ideas into a logical
structure. Crafting a compelling introduction that outlines the purpose and relevance of the essay
is paramount, while each subsequent paragraph should build upon the previous, contributing to a
coherent narrative.
In scientific essay writing, emphasis on objectivity is essential. The writer must steer clear of
personal biases, presenting evidence-based arguments and acknowledging potential limitations in
the research. Clarity and transparency are key, as the essay aims not only to convey information
but also to contribute to the broader scientific discourse.
The editing phase is equally demanding, requiring a keen eye for detail to eliminate
inconsistencies, refine language, and ensure the seamless flow of ideas. The writer must be
prepared to revise and refine repeatedly, fine-tuning the essay until it meets the highest standards
of academic excellence.
In conclusion, delving into the world of "Scientific Essay Writing" demands a combination of
research prowess, writing skills, and a commitment to accuracy. It's an intricate process that goes
beyond mere expression; it involves the synthesis of knowledge and the communication of
complex ideas to an audience with varying levels of expertise.

Use Of Similes In Dante s Inferno
IV Author s use of Language/ Literary Devices:
Personification: Dante s twist on personification is evident throughout his work, as
it was extremely common in this era. Within the first Canto we can already imagine
the words vividly, Upward I looked, and I beheld its shoulders Vested already with
that planet s rays Which leadeth others right by every road. In this example Dante is
actually speaking about a mountain s foot, which he has just stumbled upon. When
he says vested already with the planet s rays, he is referring to the sun s light.
Archetypes: Dante uses archetypes* when he is explaining the different circles.
*An archetype is a typical example of a certain person or thing. EX
Similes: Dante s Inferno is overflowing with similes, such as the blood that flows
from the snapped twig in the suicide woods is an example, it compares the normal
sap to the thickness of blood.
Homeric Similes: Dante s use of epic, or homeric similes are much more common
among his written work in the Inferno. Since he likes to add lots of details that
elongate his sentences, they aren t hard to find in the book. As chanting cranes will
form a line in the air, so I saw souls come uttering cries (V.39). This simile juxtaposes
the souls of Hell crying in agony to chanting cranes, as they are both protesting
something in their own way.
Epithet: Dante often uses epithets to provide the reader with definitive descriptions
of characters or the setting. Great connoisseur of sin (V.37). This text alludes to
Minos, the king of Crete, who constructed a beast called the Minotaur, who assailed
people in the Labyrinth.
Imagery: Imagery is an important theme through Dante s Inferno that Dante uses
frequently to give us images to describe ..my guide, Embraced my neck and kissed
me on the face.. (VIII.40 41). The imagery used in these lines provide an image of
how Virgil treats Dante.
V Motif to Develop Theme:
In Dante s Inferno the recurring theme in the literary work is the punishment of sins,
and the severity that the people in hell suffer as a consequence. Pierro delle Vigne
explains the actions of that which: led him to hell, suicide, and how it condemned
him to eternity in hell as a tree trunk. He confesses, My
Accounting Oversight Board Summary
PThe Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has the authorization
and duty to inspect auditing firms to make sure they are in compliance with law,
rules, and professional standards in connection with the auditing reports of public

Deloitte Touche LLP, KPMG, BDO LLP, and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP are
discussed in the following paper.
PCAOB Release No. 104 2016 14 Inspection of Deloitte Touche LLP August 10, 2016
According to the PCAOB document, many audit deficiencies involving Deloitte

Testing was limited to attending certain monthly meetings, inquiring of the control

the existence of inventory at certain of these foreign locations was performed. Since
these locations had a significant percentage of the audited companies total inventory,
there was a reasonable possibility of material misstatement.
Issuer K also found a problem with KPMG s limited testing of different locations

KPMG failed to perform sufficient testing of net sales and accounts receivable at
certain of the issuer s locations, which represented over 35 percent of consolidated
net sales and accounts receivable. To test net sales and accounts receivable at these
locations, KPMG only tested management reports that included comparisons of
financial statement accounts to those in prior periods. KPMG did not make sure if
the accounts receivable existed.
In response to PCAOB finding, KPMG conducted a thorough evaluation of the
matters identified and have taken actions to address the engagement specific findings

A Day At 07.45 Using A Code
On 30th December 2015 I was on duty. I reported to the reception at 07.45 using a
code at the device from the entrance as I am working in a Care Home where the
residents suffer from Dementia and due to their condition related with memory
loss, they need to be protected so that they can not leave and not be able to remember
the way back in accordance with SOVA legislation. I used my fog to clock in and
also signed the staff book so that in case of fire the place would need to be evacuated.
Then I changed my clothes and put on my uniform and my black shoes, put all my
belongings into my locker including my phone, tied my hair up and checked for my
uniform to look nice and to have my badge with my name on it; all in accordance
with company Policies and Procedures.
I washed my hands and at 7.55 I went to the floor ready for work. I have checked
the board to see which unit I was allocated to. I was working on Thames Unit and
my team was made up of 5 care assistants and one nurse. The nurse did the hand
over regarding all changes and concerns from night staff and then she allocated
each of us 3 residents. My residents were MR J, MR B and MRS M ( obviously
these are pseudonyms in order to maintain confidentiality in accordance with Nursing
and Midwifery Council NMC 2015 Code of Conduct).
Next step was to read the care plans of the residents allocated to me, although I am
key worker for two of the residents allocated to me namely MR J And MRS M, to see

PULLMAN Essays
The Town of Pullman: Success or Failure? The invention of the railroad was probably
the most important occurrence in the nineteenth century. The United States became a
unified front and interstate travel become safe, cheap and efficient. Industries related
to the railroad began to prosper, fueling much of the American economy.
Entrepreneurs quickly began to take advantage of this boom and thus American Big
Business was born. George Pullman was one of the many prominent tycoons of this
RailroadEra . Through the use of his talented ingenuity and high organizational skills,
he acquired a vast fortune and immense power. George Pullman is most notably
credited for the creation of the Pullman Sleeping Car. Its invention enhanced the...

The town of Pullman began to quickly populate as an industrial and residential center.
Pullman s intention of improving living conditions was an immediate success.
Outside visitors frequently commented on the clean streets, beautiful foliage and
newly erected tenements and houses. They were more spacious and comfortable
than those of the inner city. However, it must be noted that even though the new
residences were quite remarkable they could not be purchased. Instead, they were
rented out to Pullman in advance who received a reasonable 6 percent profit.
Many historians believe that the inability to own property was one of the main
flaws of Pullman. The average length of residence in 1892 was four and a quarter
years. Many residents later purchased homes in neighboring towns. Asked why he
had bought a home, an ex resident answered that he felt a greater freedom in his own
place. The company did nothing to stop the residents from moving out. It was their
belief that the town s moral environment had prepared the men for the symbol of
middle class respectability. The behavior of the workingmen showed a

e. The current employees will be compensated at $12.00 $15.50 per hour. The new
full time employees will be compensated at $9.00 per and the part time employee
will receive $8.00 per hour. All full time employees will receive additional benefits
(health insurance, workers compensation, cafeteria and life insurance.) Wage
adjustments are anticipated to be about 4% per year
Financials
Research indicates that the revenue requirements to add an additional store come to
$250,000, which is largely single time fees associated with opening the store. These
costs are financed through owner personal financing, private investors and loans
from the SBA. It should be noted that we expect to be operating at a loss for the first
six months before advertising begins to take effect and draw in customers.
Buster s will be receiving periodic inflow of cash to cover operating expenses during
the upcoming two years in order to sustain profitability. Most of this funding has been
arranged through lending institutions and private investors. No anticipation of cash
flow problems is expected during the next three years.
Sales Forecasts
Buster s expects a strong rate of growth at the start of operations. Below are the
expected financials over the next three years.

Indeed, These Results Are Coherent With The Works Of
Major
Indeed, these results are coherent with the works of major contemporary immigrant
economists. One of the most renown professor specialized in the field, Borjas,
concluded in 2001 that immigration, especially low skill, only decreases the wage
elasticity (percent change in hours working over percent change in salary) of the
natives to about .3% to .4% (41 Kerr). Similarly, Altonji and Card estimated a
negligible negative effect on total employment about 0.1% by 1989 (43 Kerr). There
are several academic explanations for the small effect of immigration to the United
States. Daniel Chiquiar and Gordon H. Hanson, for example, observed that the major
flow of immigration from Mexico, though still somewhat considered unskilled in US,

Instead of immigrants, the neoliberal structure of the US economy is the main culprit
of the current employment tensions and low skilled labor supply surplus.
Neoliberalism refers to the ideological practices and political economic structures that
serve the corporate instead of public interest (23 Harvey). Specifically, it advocates
steps of privatization, financialization, the management and manipulation of crisis,
and state redistributions benefit the corporate power. Nevertheless, different from the
traditional capitalism defined by either Adam Smith or Keynes, it emphasizes more
on the systematic involvement of the government to support their local and oversea
interests (Harvey). In result, it possesses a strange but unique phenomenon not
predicted by many scholars the inability to upgrade the labor to meet the demand of
supply. Neoliberalism promotes the large outflow of capital oversea, especially those
that are best characterized by labor intensive industries. These industries usually
require minimal amount of training and generate mass employment. On the other
hand, the high ended technological and innovative capital, best characterized by
capital intensive industries, remained domestic. These industries often demand a
great amount of skill and training, whose cost are very high, but provide only limited
employment. In these cases,
What Is Tuckman s Five Stage Theory Of Group
Development
Our group had members from different educational backgrounds, place of origin,
work experience etc. This diversity helped us in getting new and different
perspectives about the issues and possible solutions to them and helped us to
remove personal biases. As some of the members in the group were from
Bhubaneswar, it helped us in interacting with local people in Odia language and also
familiarity with the place made it easier for us to locate the stone crushers.
Group Process
As a part of analysis of group process, I will go over two different theories of group
development. The first one is Tuckman s 5 stage model of group development and
Punctuated equilibrium model. In analyzing the group development of the of our
GDTB group, there will be examples of incidence that supports both of these models.

a) Forming:
In the forming stage, the group is formed and the group members try to get to
know each other and figure out how they are going to function. At this stage there
is discomfort due to unfamiliarity together with confusion on how the team will
function together. It s important at this point in team development to have a clear
objective, define goals, and plan how the team will achieve their tasks. In my
previous groups in 1st term, there was some discomfort and confusion, I think,
primarily due to the fact that we did not know each other well and did not have
clear goals and an understanding of how we would function together as a team.
But in the GDTB group, some of us had already worked together for another
assignment in 1st term so it was easier for us to work together again for GDTB
project. Through this project we learned more about each other and also talked about
our goals, interests in how we would work
Pros And Cons Of Network Administrator
Abstract
Every Single day it is indeed a full time job for the network administrator to keep up
with the changing technologies. These new technologies come with new challenges,
threats, and vulnerabilities which a smart network administrator must solve to keep
the system secure. The network administrator must keep up with new hacking
techniques, latest countermeasures, and in depth knowledge of company s data to
address the suspicious activities and minimize their effects. But then comes the
question of Ethics. Should the network administrator access employees private emails
or websites logs to ensure company s rules aren t violated? Is it ok to browse
employees documents or graphics files stored on the computers or on file servers?
So, the network administrator has both charms and pitfalls as he has a huge
responsibility to secure the company by carrying out his duties in an ethical way. This
paper explains some ethical and social challenges a future network administrator may
encounter in a company. The paper also introduces some basic ways the new network
administrator can use to maintain a healthy, trustful, and ethical relationship between
his work and the society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Should he report each and every infraction? How to decide the serious infraction?
So, the administrator should educate himself regarding the company s policies,
relevant laws, and regulations to make good ethical decisions [3]. For example, one
of the employees is selling pirated software to the clients and the other is browsing
educational sites to complete his college homework during office hours. These are
some of the gray areas which require a judgment call. Both the infractions are not
good for the company s growth but the first one is serious and should be reported

Comparing The Sun And The Moon In One Day In The Life
Of...
The sun and the moon have long been seen as a dichotomy through various cultures.
Day and night, hot and cold; the list can continue with different interpretations. But,
in a Gulag labour camp, where a convict s thoughts are no freer than he is (40)
subjected only to the unjust oppression by the Soviet government their ideas of what
the sunand mooncan mean is significantly repressed to ideas of misfortunes that are
perpetuated by the camp and the government. In Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s novel, One
Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, the sun and the moon are symbols of two ideas
that derive from the prisoner s experience in the Gulag camp: incarceration and
enlightenment. Although the sun is often thought as empowering, the prisoners...

The novel explores what life might be like outside of camp on one occasion, when
Ivan Denisovich s wife sent him a letter about carpet dyeing. Despite having an
opportunity outside of camp, Denisovich was indifferent because he lost the habit
of scheming how he was going to feed his family (44). The guards give prisoners
work to do, and that is the prisoner s only purpose in life once they are incarcerated.
How the sun represents incarceration despite the sun s lively connotations, it
transcends the confusion that the labour camp and the Soviet government were
stirring in the prisoner s head. Using the moon s symbolism, it leads prisoners and
the readers to contemplate on this underlying turmoil. But even though life in
prison is difficult, somehow life was easier (44) because Denisovich did not have
to bear the burden of his family. He was also questioning if life was easier here or
there (178). This seemingly unquestionable conclusion that a life of liberty outside of
camp is much easier than a life of incarceration inside of camp is being obfuscated by
the Soviet government. The prisoners no longer know what they want, and this
confusion alludes to how the Soviet government is wrecking havoc both in the camps
and the nation. Solzhenitsyn was trying to convey this idea through One Day in the

Sample Naturalistic Observation Papers
On Friday, February 10th, 2017 I did a naturalistic observation with the intent to

night and observed for approximately 2 hours. The setting was a lingerie party at
Gaia s Cradle.
Gaia s Cradle is a living learning community at Northland, located next to the CSE
building, in a historical two story home with six students residing. It is a learning
community dedicated to gender, women s, and sexuality studies. Gaia s regularly
holds educational events, and always offers free condoms and dental dams for
anyone who needs/wants. As a setting, Gaia s is an extremely open, accepting, and
diverse place. For the party, he house was decorated with art made from a previous

lighting, fairy lights and black lights. Dance music was playing loudly from a ... Show

The men at the party only drank beer, while playing beer pong. The beer was in
bottles, cans, or in the red solo cups from the game. The women at the party either
took shots together, or brought their own wine or mixed drinks in water bottles. I
believe many women brought their own drinks for safety reasons. College,
especially college parties, can be a very dangerous place for women. Rates of
sexual assault are extremely high on college campuses. These women likely mixed
and brought their own drinks so they would know they aren t getting drugged. The
men weren t worried about being drugged by drinking open solo cups of beer that
were setting out in public. This is an example of male privilege. The men at the
party didn t need to worry about being drugged and possibly assaulted because the
overwhelming majority of assaults are committed by men and the victims are

Upgrading Data Communication At The Classroom
Upgrading data communication in the classroom would be an appropriate
technological advantage because research indicates that broadband and cloud
computing are transforming education. The outdated teaching tools that we grew up
with (i.e. chalkboards and hardback books) are now being replaced with interactive
digital content delivered through high speed broadband using blackboard and e
books. This means elementary school students can explore the surface of the sun
through high definition video as they learn about the solar system. Furthermore,
middle schoolchildren can experience history lessons through interactive videos and
high schoolstudents can discover geometry through gaming (Robyler, M. D. Edwards,
J., 2000, p. 79). Consequently, accessing broadband for digital learning is a necessity
for students to have a chance to compete in todays technological society. From a
pedagogical standpoint, updating communications in the classroom creates an
environment of enrichment and engages students actively in the learning process.
Upgrading the data communications in the classroom from a programmatic
perspective enables students and teachers to quickly access the database, monitor
seismographic data, and establish electronic pen pals in Latin America (Picciano,
2011, p. 110).

Imperialism In Hotel Rwanda
The continent of Africa has been continually engaged in civil, tribal and cross
national conflicts from colonial independence up until present day. What historians
regard as the most efficient genocide in history, occurred in a mere 100 days in the
small central African country of Rwanda. The Hutus and the Tutsis, two ethnic
groups within Rwanda, have been at continual unrest for the past half a century.
During the 100 day massacre of 1994, a murder occurred every two seconds;
resulting in 18% of the Tutsi population being killed. A decade after the war, in
2004, the film Hotel Rwanda was released. The film followed the story of a Hutu
man; Paul Rusesabagina as he housed over 1200 Tutsi refugees in his hotel. The

Before Rwanda became an independent African run country, it was under Belgian
control. In the 1930s Belgium imposed indirect rule and put Tutsis in control of
government. The Belgians did not invent the two ethnic groups, Hutu and Tutsi, but
colonial intervention enforced a new meaning for the two ethnicities and thus
engrained a hierarchy among the Rwandans . The Tutsis could be determined by their
taller slighter build, lighter skin and thinner noses; in conclusion, they were the
whitest Africans . By 1994 the two groups were visibly indistinguishable because of
mixed parentage. This is portrayed in the movie Hotel Rwanda when a journalist asks
two women what ethnicity they are; he discovers that one is Hutu and the other Tutsi.
The journalist replies that the women could be twins. In the 1950s the newly
established United Nations began to pressure Belgium to vacate Rwanda. Belgium
introduced reforms to increase Hutu representation in politics, so from the 1950s until
1962, when Rwanda achieved independence a Hutu movement was born. The Hutu
movement was gaining momentum and national recognition; the violence conducted
during this period forced thousands of Tutsis to leave the country. In 1961 Belgium
sponsored the federal election and a Hutu man, Gregoire Kayibanda was elected to
power. This Hutu revolution excluded Tutsis from government and military.

Comparing Presidential Evaluations
Being president probably isn t the easiest job. Here are some of my views on
President Trump and Obama. There are many comparisons and differentiations
between them. One being Trump wanting to get rid of programs, for example DACA
for his budget plan, while Obama started it to help out, yet they both had the same
idea to make the country better. Presidential assessment is analytical because it helps
us confirm strong leadership. There are two types of assessments; annual and
comprehensive. Presidential evaluations, especially annual evaluations based on the
president s self assessment, have become much more widespread as part of
accreditors expectations for institutions responsibility. Presidental assessment should

Elements Of A Mystery Novel
Elements of a mystery novel is similar to other genre of novels since they all include
characters, settings, problems and solutions with necessary descriptions and suspense
throughout. In a mystery novel, the protagonist is usually the sleuth where they
figure out the puzzle and as Christopher Boone, narrator of the novelThe Curious
Incident of the Dog in the Night time, states, If it is a good puzzle you can
sometimes work out the answer before the end of the book (5). This is referring to
the clues the author provides which can also be a distraction known as a red herring.
In relation to this, the most valuable information is typically gained throughout the
process of the investigation rather than the solution itself. Although the book The
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time isn t classified as a detective story, the
plot still goes through an investigation and shares elements of a mystery novel. The
mystery within the story that keeps the novel going is to find the killerof Mrs. Shears
poodle, Wellington and in turn, shapes the ending where we see the development of
the protagonist after he learns the crazy reality of life.
The novel begins with Christopher stumbling upon dead Wellington and gets blamed
as the killer which is what initiated the investigation. If this occurrence did not
happen, then Christopher would not have wanted to find the real killer since death is
never a drawback for him. In fact, Christopher views death as an inevitable event so
Principle Foundation of the European Union
The European Union (EU) was founded on the principles of liberty, democracy,
respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law .
Democracy can be interpreted in different ways, for it means the power of the
people where the public decide who they want as they leader by a majority vote
system who represents the views of the people. Lisbon Treaty gave these rights the
force of law therefore these rights are not to be violated by member states and must
maintain a healthy baseline of democracy. Many academics have argued that the
EU is suffering from a democratic deficit due to the Euopean not having enough
power and for other reasons which will be discussed. I will discuss the observation
of Joseph Weilers standard version of the democratic deficit and analyze the
strengths and weaknesses of his argument. This essay will examine the reasons
why many academics and authors believe there is a democratic deficit. Further
discussions will point to renowned intellectuals who reject the idea of democratic
deficit , such as Professor Andrew Moravcsik and Proffesor Giandomencio Majone
who both refute the idea that the EU lacks democratic accountability for different
reason which will be discussed in detail. My conclusion will include my belief that
the EU does suffer from a democratic deficit and this will be supported by the
powerful evidence that will be stated throughout this essay. Title II Article 10 of the

The Power Of Fate In Romeo And Juliet
There are many powerful forces on this earth. It can permanently affect a person s
life, whether it be fortunate or atrocious. Romeo and Juliet illustrates the lives of
two young star crossed lovers who take their lives together after they discover that
their affection will never be compatible. They are lead to believe that they love
each other, and though love is a strong element in life, love is not what drove them
to meet each other, or eventually kill themselves. It is fate that wrote their lives
like a book, and its fate that decided when to write the last page of that book. Fate
is the development of events beyond a person s control, regarded as determined by
a supernatural power. It is the force that is more powerful than any element of
human nature on earth. No one can surpass/change it; it is impossible to try to
erase the words of your story. Fate is inevitable, and whether it is good or bad, you
must accept it. In Romeo And Juliet, Romeo tries to accept the fate that draw him
and Juliet apart, but at the end of the book, he tries to defy fate, saying Then I defy
you, stars (Act 5, Scene 1, Page 266), then takes his life. However, fate is so strong,
that by killing himself trying to defy fate, he actually followed its guidelines. In
Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare uses characterization and foreshadowing to
illustrate that it is human nature to recognize that life is controlled by fate, and good
or bad, it cannot be changed. Fate acts quickly in the play.
The French and Indian War Led to the Revolutionary War
Essay
The French and Indian War, which happened between 1754 and 1763 was a
stepping stone for what would become known as the Revolutionary War. The French
and Indian War was originally a dispute over the Ohio River Valley. The French
considered it their territory, where as the English considered it theirs. While it was a
territorial dispute between the countries, the war took place in the colonies. The
colonist fought bravely beside the British, whereas the Indians sided with the French.
At the beginning all the countries wanted was to claim the Ohio RiverValley as their
own; however, the outcome of the war was very different. By fighting for that
territory, the French sacrificed not only Quebec, but also all claim on land in the

Right before the Stamp Act, the Indian Chief Pontiac attacked the colonist trying to
drive them from the land for the last time. The rebellion resulted in Britain passing
the Proclamation of 1763 after realizing they did not have the means to protect the
vast amount of land they had acquired. The Proclamation stated that no one could
settle past the Appalachian Mountains. This law angered the colonist because they
believed that the land was rightfully theirs. Before the war, the colonists were in a
time of Salutary Neglect. Colonist could go about their business, passing laws,
running the government how they wanted. The militia was under the control of
American colonist and people such as George Washingtoncould rise to the rank of
Corporal. The British government had little involvement in the colonies as long as
the colonies provided them with raw goods. However, with the start of the war,
Salutary Neglect was over. As the British got involved in the fighting, colonist near
the fighting soon joined them. However, the government passed laws that made
them second class soldiers compared to the British soldiers. American colonist
could not rise above the rank of Captain, which was very demeaning to people like
Washington who had been a Corporal in the Virginia Militia. The colonists were
also treated like crap when it came to service. According to a soldier during the
French and Indian War, the conditions in which soldiers worked, made it seem like the
Three Key Themes Of War Crimes Persico
Three Themes: 1. In the Epilogue, Persico ponders the actual validity that the
conspiracy charge had throughout the Nuremberg Trials. Conspiracy was among
the possible indictments along with War Crimes, Crimes Against Humanity and
Peace Crimes brought forth against the numerous Nazi s on trial. Regarding the
Conspiracy charge, Periscope goes so far as to say the conspiracy charge was
unnecessary. Persico s argument which I do see to hold validity, is that the
conspiracy charge is simply piling on to build a greater quantitative case against
the selected high ranking Nazi s while in no way at all helping the quality of the case.
It was virtually impossible to prove the guilt of any of the Nazi s by way of the
conspiracy charge as zero defendants were convicted of this charge by itself. For this
reason, it didn t prove to have much a purpose as the trial progressed.... Show more

Another key theme that Persico discusses in the epilogue is justice. Persico claims
that the trial did serve justice to those who deserved it even if there were some
issues with the process. There is also the concept that Persico grapples with which
is if one high ranking Nazi effectively murders MANY innocent people and this
Nazi is put on trial and later hanged, is justice served. My belief is that although the
scale is most definitely tipped, justice was served in the most just possible way
which appears to align with the ideas Persico debates in the epilogue. This form of
justice that was executed or any form of justice for that matter may not feel as
fulfilling as it ought to be knowing the horrible atrocities that were committed,
however I believe that this was the best way of handling the situation at
Communication Is An Important Staple Of Human History
Communication is an important staple of human history. From the use of Egyptian
hieroglyphs to the first appearance of emojis in Japan during the late nineteen
nineties. Methods of communication are ever evolving and it is only a matter of time
before the next sweeping form of interaction changes how we communicate. Before
exploring the revolution which took place in the late nineteenth century, it is
important to look at the pre telephoneera, the factors that went into the invention of
the telephone, how the telephone changed the world, and how it impacts society
today. When talking about the pre telephone era, many people fail to realize that
their were many well established forms of communication. The first official
United States Post Office was established on July 25, 1775 and was headed by
Benjamin Franklin. (USPS) The Telegraph was the fastest form of communication
prior to the telephone, with it s utilization of the electric signals through wire, it
was an excellent form of communication which allowed for messages to be sent
across sea in relatively reasonable time. (USDS) Postal Service and Telegraphy
were great methods of communication, but they never reached the heart of
communication, conversation between two people can only exist in short hand in
telegraphy and it would take weeks for mail to come back and forth between sender
and receiver. However, on a diligent March day in the Basement of a Boston
University Professor, the first phone call was made only a
History, The Patterns Of, And The Different Uses For The...
The term paper for this class will discuss a topic that everyone has on his or her body.
That topic will cover the all important fingerprint. This paper will accomplish that by
reviewing the history, the patterns of, different ways to obtain, and the different uses
for the individual s unique fingerprint. The history of the fingerprintdates back to
before Christ. Before the use of fingerprints as evidence for crimes committed by
criminals, they were used to scare individuals. This tactic involved using the whole
hand instead of signatures. In Persia around the 14th century, a doctor, who was a
government official, discovered that not two fingerprints were the same. There were
two individuals who were Mercello Malpighi in 1686 and John... Show more content

Dr. Faulds also came up with a method to classify the prints that he discovered.
Since the 1880 s there have been numerous advancements in the classification,
identification, and obtaining the prints from various objects. (U.S. Department of
Justice) The patterns of fingerprints are classified in one of the three main
categories. The main categories are arches, loops, and whorls. In the arch
category, you have four sub categories. There, you have the plain, tented, radial,
and ulnar arches. With the loops, you have two sun categories; ulnar and radial.
The whorl also has four sub categories. The four sub categories for the whorl are:
plain, central pocket, double loop, and accidental whorl. In the population
encountered the percentages for each pattern are: arches account for about 5%, 60
to 70% of the population has loops, and whorls account for 25 to 35%. Arches
basically run from one side to the other with no backwards turn along the delta or
middle of the finger. As for the loop pattern, they run to the delta and then it turns
back towards or touches the line and goes back in the direction that it entered. The
whorls are basically a circle or continuous lines that whorl around the delta. There are
several different ways to obtain or lift a sample fingerprint off of a surface. The
different techniques are patent prints, latent prints, alternate light source,
cyanoacrylate or by using chemical developers. In using the patent technique, all you
have to do is
How Did The Treaty Of Todesilla Change The World
Does the Treaty of Tordesillas change the world? The Treaty of Tordesillas divided
the New World into land, resources, and people claimed by Spain and Portugal.
Pope Alexander VI issued and official order which divided the New World lands
between Spain and Portugal. A north south line of separation would be placed west
of the Cape Verde Islands. The Treaty of Tordesillas was signed on June 7, 1494 and
authenticated at Setubal, Portugal.
In the town of Tordesillas in 1494, representatives of Portugal and Spaincame to a
negotiated agreement to their dispute. The separating line was moved 370 leagues
west of the Cape Verde Islands. Even though Portugal gained a larger part of South
America, Spain got control of most of the New World .
In 1506, the agreement was officially recognized by Pope Alexander. Spain and
Portugal, with a few concessions, both countries remained loyal to the treaty. Portugal
expanded into Brazil crossing the line separating the two countries, but Spain did not
oppose. The natives of these regions were not consulted about the assignment of their
homelands to others and competing powers in Europe totally ignored the line. This
treaty ignored future claims of the French and British, the other superpowers of
Europe at the time. The British, Russian, and French empires did not take any parts
of the Americas for several years following the Treaty of Tordesillas. The Treaty of
Tordesillas ignored the millions of people that inhabited and established communities
in the Americas. The treaty agreed that lands with a Christian king would not be
colonized . Christianity had not spread to the Americas, and the resulting colonization
proved disastrous for indigenous cultures such as the Inca, Taino, Aztec, Tupi, and
thousands of other bands throughout the Americas .
The Treaty of Tordesillas was to solve the disagreement that had been created after
Christopher Columbus and his crew sailed for the Crown of Castile. When
Christopher was heading back to Spain, his first stop was Lisbon, in Portugal. He
asked for a meeting with King John II to discuss the discovered lands. After the
Portuguese were informed about Columbus voyage, the King threatened the Catholic

Benjamin Franklin Henry David Thoreau
Benjamin Franklin and Henry David Thoreau have been thought of as two powerful
philosophers in history. Both men were alive centuries ago, but their unique ways of
life and ideas still exist in some of history s most admirable figures. Each man had a
judgment that went beyond the era they existed in, but is still obvious in today s
culture. Even though both men are credited for their wise principles, their beliefs do
not always coincide with one another. However, one thing they do have in common is
that they both revolutionized America through their thoughts, actions, and distinctive
opinions on how to improve the world around them. Henry David Thoreauand
Benjamin Franklin had a lot of similar ways of life. The men didn t believe in the...

His autobiography is the first example of the completion of the American Dream.
Franklin talks about his life history as an example to exemplify the most significant
American character and principles, like strength of mind, self reliance,
determination, hard work, penny pinching, and dependence on a code of moral
principles are the elements of achievement. He describes how he became an
excellent citizen through lack of money and steady assiduousness. Franklin
established the potential of life in the New World through his own rise of the social
classes. His family was poor when he was a child, but despite that, he became a very
rich and influential man. In addition, he declares that he pulled off his achievements
through a diligent work ethic. He showed that even ordinary people in Boston
possibly would, through industry, turn out to be great people of significance in
America. Walden, by Henry David Thoreau describes the events and the thoughts that
came to Thoreau all through his time living at Walden Pond in the eighteenth
century. Henry David Thoreau was a poet and a theorist who experienced a life of
ease so that he could create a relationship between nature, people, and God. His
narrative in Walden depicted many themes, for example the significance of the
natural world, the implication of development, the meaning of detail, and the
connection between the body and mind. He also urbanized many theoretical ideas
about living a simple and natural life, and
Comparing Pharoah And Layfette Rivers
Pharoah and Layfette Rivers grew up in the projects of Chicago, Illinois in what
was known as the Henry Horner Homes. The book portrayed two young boys who
wanted to have a typical childhood, but due to their environment, their circumstance
did not allow them to live like the children they dreamed of. The boys were raised in
a decrepit building: no enclosed lobby, a dark tunnel through the hall, busted first
floor mailboxes, and very dim lighting that required them to carry flashlights. Their
mother, LaJoe described the neighborhood surrounding their building as a black hole
due to businesses gravitating towards the suburban appeal. The neighborhood had

The once carefree child became bossy and bitter with his siblings, especially the four
year old triplets: Timothy, Tiffanie, and Tammie, which Lafayette claimed to have

Pharoah was a very emotional and naive introvert. His best friend, Porkchop was his
one and only friend. This could possibly be due to the stutter that Pharoah had,
although it did grasp the attention of the elders around him. Pharoah differentiated
himself from his older siblings by ignoring the harsh realities around him. His
daydreaming was to compensate for the strong emotional outbursts he felt. He
always could laugh at the smallest thing and created every scenario as if it were a
full blown tragedy. Make no mistake, Pharaoh was known for his brains as the more
intelligent of the two boys. But it is Pharaoh s delicate personality that created such
a soft spot for him in Lafayette. Lafayette took it upon himself to promise his
mother that he would not allow anything to happen to Pharoah. However, this
promise was severed during a gang shootout on the street where for a split second,
Lafayette lost Pharaoh. As the rivals shootout came to an end, the boys explicitly
heard the police informing a news reporter that there was no gun fire. Even though
the boys knew there obviously was gunfire it was one of the first times that the boys
experienced the police s questionable agenda. Living in the projects, gun violence
would be reintroduced into Lafayette s life
The Power Of Love In Sappho
Other authors after Homer also use reverence for a god s domain as a tool to gain
attention from the gods. In the Fragments, the author, Sappho, uses this tool to
gain attention from the gods for herself. Sappho is a lover of love and her work
shows her obsession with love as most of her partially retained and transcribed
lyrics focus on love and its different forms. In supplication to the goddess Aphrodite,
Sappho writes, Deathless Aphrodite of the spangled mind... I beg you do not break
with hard pains, O lady, my heart (The Fragments, pg.3). Due to the fact that love is
Aphrodite s domain, Aphrodite pays attention to Sappho someone who personifies
and respects the power of love. Subsequently, after Sappho s supplication, Aphrodite
asks, Whom should I persuade (now again) to lead you back into her love? Who, O
Sappho, is wronging you? (The fragments, pg.3). The use of the phrase now again
indicates that Aphrodite not only pays attention to Sappho, but that Aphrodite helps
Sappho in issues of love repeatedly. Out of context, the phrase now again also denotes
and exasperated tone, however, the preceding context states that Aphrodite greeted
Sappho smiling a symbol of pleasure with another. Additionally, Sappho gains the
attention of Herabecause of her mention and praise of marriage in lyric 44,
motherly love in lyric 132 and the praise of women throughout all powers that lie
under Hera s domain. Recently in a newly discovered and transcribed lyric, Sappho
says,
The Importance Of A Seed Growing Like A Little Me
When I was a young girl, I cherished the moments my family and I had while we
were outside during the summer. Usually going outside consisted of me riding my
newly bought, white and pink bike that I still wobbled on because it was too big for
me or climbing the apple tree in the front yard, but this time, my parents wanted my
brother and I to help garden. The dreadful thing of planting a beautiful flower in the
mucky dirt, left my hands and feet soiled in a dark substance. I never liked
gardening and I hated when I saw the neighborhood children enjoying the activity ,
but I always did what my parents told me. Now, as I look back into the life of the
young Brittney, I realize that the only thing that I didn t like about it was the dirt.
Did I not understand what putting the root into the soil meant, or was I just too
childish to remark the significance of a seedgrowing like a little me? Never did
gardening come across me as fun ! Who wanted dirt stuck under their finger and
toenails and who wanted pretty pink clothes ruined with soil? Not me and at that
time, I could guarantee no other girl would want this either! Fun came to me as
climbing a treeon a hot and humid day, not gardening. Riding a bike up and down
ramps, singing little tunes, and even playing house left me happier than the dirty,
disgusting job of gardening. Don t get me wrong, I loved the smell of flowers and I
loved the little bugs that flew or crawled around, but something about that dirt

The Presidency of Gerald Ford It is difficult to decide whether the presidency of
America s 38th President, Gerald Ford was a success or a failure. In his short time
in office, Ford managed to leave a mixed legacy of controversy and satisfaction.
Many of the decisions made during Gerald Ford s presidency are questioned as to
whether they were positive or negative for the country. Some of the most disputable

public opinion. Ford s presidency was a temporary failure but can be considered
successful in the long term. Ford became the President of the United Statesunlike any

During the late 1960 s and the early 70 s, America suffered from extreme national
inflation. Prices of goods dramatically increased while money decreased in value.
Meanwhile, employment rates soared because of the baby boomer population
increase. The situation became so chaotic that the term stagflation was created to
describe what was going on. Stagflation was defined as a period of time with high
unemployment and inflation rates. Since there were a majority of Democrats in
Congress, Ford wanted to create a grassroots movement in order to influence the
government to solve the economic crisis. Ford addressed this problem during a
speech in 1974 where he proclaimed, There is only one point on which all advisers
have agreed: We must whip inflation right now (Ford). Inspired by this speech,
large red buttons with the slogan Whip Inflation Now were handed out to the
public. Many historians agree that this campaign turned into a failure. Ford tried to
succeed but the buttons were easily criticized for looking childish and inflation
grew throughout the rest of the 70 s. The WIN campaign may have failed but Ford
did not give up on the economy. On October 15th 1974, Ford passed the Federal
Elections Campaign Act of 1974 which greatly managed political spending for the
first time since the 1920 s. After some time, the process to help the economy started to

Essay Annie Dillard s Pilgrim at Tinker Creek
Annie Dillard s Pilgrim at Tinker Creek
Annie Dillard opens Pilgrim at Tinker Creek mysteriously, hinting at an unnamed
presence. She toys with the longstanding epic images of battlefields and oracles,
injecting an air of holiness and awe into the otherwise ordinary. In language more
poetic than prosaic, she sings the beautiful into the mundane. She deifies common
and trivial findings. She extracts the most high language from all the possible
permutations of words to elevate and exalt the normal. Under her pen, her literary
devices and her metaphors, a backyard stream becomes a shrine. Writing a prayer,
Dillard becomes an instrument through which a ubiquitous spirit reveals itself. Yet in

. .lest our eyes be blasted forever (23). She alludes here to the monotheistic concept
of the taboo gaze, the forbidden direct stare into the face of God. In the preceding
paragraph, she discover[s] the mystery (22) of the clouds. Able to perceive them
only in the reflective water below, blind to the originals that cast the duplicates, she
wonders if maybe the ark of the covenant was just passing by (22). The trunk in
which Moses stored the Ten Commandments also provided the throne of God
within the Tabernacle; he presides from atop the ark between two cherubim, in
unapproachable light (I Timothy 6:16, Psalm 104:2). As they avoid pronouncing
the name of God, believers must also shy away from this brightness. Dillard
evokes these mystical taboos to express the irony of human love. Elsewhere she
tells the story of a moth consumed by a flame, calling to mind the Sufi symbol for
mortal love and the mystical path spiked with danger. The religious symbols also
provoke ideas of spirituality that elevate the significance of Dillard s worldly
visions. The references are vital, because her experiences in nature do not connote
spiritual presence as they once did.

Iranian Nuclear Enrichment Program Since the first atomic bomb tests in the mid

element enrichment under wraps, but several countries have found out how; now
they have large nuclear programs. Iran has recently joined the club, pursuing a

Newspeak In 1984
This idea of Newspeak is being used by the party to completely get rid of rebellious
thought and evidence of it throughout history. Syme later tells Winston that by 2050,
earlier, probably all real knowledge of Oldspeak will have disappeared. The whole
literature of the past will have been destroyed. Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Byron
they ll exist only in Newspeak versions, not merely changed into something different,
but actually changed into something contradictory of what they used to be (Orwell

The party s methods of surveillance are stringent and flexible through the
implementation of telescreens, cameras, and manned patrols. As Winston was
returning home from work one day, a helicopter skimmed down between the roofs,
hovered for an instant like a bluebottle, and darted away again with a curving
flight. It was the police patrol, snooping into people s windows (Orwell 94).
Families could be enjoying dinner or doing work, but the party is only concerned
with limiting any kind of rebellion towards Big Brother, a policy that has embodied
all of Oceania s regulations. Of course, these brainwashed citizens may think
nothing of it, but snooping deeply splinters the privacy of the people. In Oceania,
one cannot realistically love someone else in respect to the party s rules. Acts of
sex, for example, are done in secret by Winston and Julia in fear of being caught by
the all seeing Big Brother. As a result, the totalization of surveillance of Party
members, not only does private life come to an end, but so does the possibility of
sexual desire as truly liberating (Fitzpatrick). Winston realizes that the act of sex
itself is rebellious and uses it to motivate him in devoting his mind and heart with
fighting the oppressive party. Especially with his position working for the party,
Winston knows he is at an increased risk of being caught, but does not care and
takes pride in this liberating act. The party also manipulates young and innocent
children into working to fulfill the principles of the party. Syme tells Winston that
Nearly all children nowadays were horrible. What was worst of all was that by means
of such organizations as the Spies they were systematically turned into ungovernable
little savages, and yet this produced in them no tendency whatever to rebel against the
discipline of the Party. On the contrary, they adored the Party and
Dictatorship In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies William Golding s novel, Lord of the flies is about how a plane
that was carrying young military school boy crashes on an island. The pilot is
killed but the many boys that survive the crash, find themselves on a deserted
island with no supervision. The author uses Jack who is one of the main characters
as the dictator and one of the authority figures. Therefore, Jack has total control of
people who follow him. Jacks rebellious actions were cruel and unacceptable. An
example of that is when he killed Simon with his group because they didn t even
bother to look if he is the monster or not. In the story Jack s group is stronger and
Ralph s is weaker which leads to a lot of conflicts and lives being taken. An example
of dictatorship is when Simon finds out that the captain is dead and tries to go tell
the other boys but, they follow him and killhim cruelly. Another example is when
Piggy was talking and trying to tell the groups that they should unite or they might
be stuck on that island forever, one of the former members of Jack s group kicked
down a huge piece of rock which hit Piggy and took his life. The other things that

Because, dictators have always been selfish by making decisions that affect a large
amount of people (usually in a bad way) and they have total control over everything
which makes them free to do anything and everything they want and the author is
telling us that. The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a
democracy everyone gets a vote but, in dictatorship only one person get a vote and
that leads to people not being happy with where they live and how their government
is growing as a dictatorship. Therefore, I agree with William Goldingbecause I think
that dictatorship is cruel and should not be tolerated because it can lead to people
losing their lives and the country to being in
Green Burial
Life has a cycle and death is inevitable. We all die. How we die and the choice of
the body s disposal is what sets up apart. It is easy to think the American way of
death is the same for everyone but that s far from the truth. There are many ways to
create a meaningful send off after one s death. This include traditional burials,
cremation and a growing practice, green burials.
For the past 150 years, American funerals have consisted of traditional burial
practices which include interment of the entire body with the use of embalming in
impenetrable wood or metal caskets with concrete vaults and liners (Harris, p.13). It

Specifically, for Jewish or Muslim funeral traditions, green burial is an easy way to
meet the requirements of the individual canon law. Both of these religions reject
embalming and encourage the natural decomposition of the body. With the Muslim
funeral rites including the washing of the body, shrouding, funeral prayer, and
burial (Campo, p.161). Similarly, the Jewish funerary rites include the tahara
which is the washing and shrouding of the body by a chevra kadhisha (Golbert,
p.56). One religion that green burials wouldn t be able to fit the requirements of a
traditional funeral is Christianity, that involves a viewing, a vigil, funeral mass and
right to committal (Larson Miller, p.102 103). Even though, in terms of Christian
belief and environmental concerns, it makes more sense because it seems to honor
the Old Testament verse in Genesis which says from dust you are, and to dust you
shall return . It also makes the point that death is a natural process that involves
decay. The simplicity and authenticity it possesses are two of the many qualities that
appeal to its consumers (Chiu 2016). The Green burials allow for the decease to
have a choice in the way that they leave the earth and how they are remembered.
Whether it s by reducing their carbon footprint, rekindling one s relation to the earth
or having and allowing
Bowlby Theory Essay
Much of Bowlby (1969,1973) theory focused on broken attachments such as the
maternal deprivation hypothesis this study looked at the background of 44
Adolescents who had been referred to a clinic to see what emotional effect stealing
had on them. Bowlby found that that the thieves had experienced frequent separations
from their mothers before the age of two compared to those who didn t steal.32% of
the thieves were diagnosed as affectionless psychopaths (they didn t care about how
their actions affected others)This may be due to a result of their long term separation
away from their mothers over a significant period of time. This demonstrates
that;deprivation of a child from its main carer early on in life can have harmful long
term consequences such as;separation anxiety, isolation, emotional insecurity and
fear.Furthermore, the result indicated that there is a link between deprivation and
criminal behaviour.Untimatley, there may be other factors such as;trauma, flaws in
individual makeup and brain abnormalities that may influence criminal
behaviour. This study is ecologically valid as it took place in hospital
clinic.Notwithstanding,there are
Essay on Fascism
On the 23 March 1919 after a series of Communist demonstrations, the almost
forgotten Mussolini decided to attempt to revive his Fasci movement. A meeting was
held in a hall in a Milan and was attended by some fifty malcontents. From this
seemingly small and insignificant event the Fascio di Combattimento (Combat
Group) was born. Initially, it would seem that the Fasci were destined for failure with
none of their candidates (including Mussolini) winning a single seat in the 1919
elections. How was it that a party with no clear programme, save a belief in action
of some sort, became a ruling dictatorship little more than ten years later? By the end
of 1919,
Mussolini possessed hardly more than 2% of the vote in Milan, less
than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly, they were later to make exactly the same mistake again. The fact that
Mussolini s party benefitted greatly by offering action, showed that political gains
could be made from the weakness of the government and from the unrest of the
country. It was at this point in 1921 that Gioletti began searching for allies against
the Socialists. The Vatican had turned against him; This was mainly due to the
government s proposal to tax the bonds which were a main form of Church property
at the time. As a result Gioletti decided to use Fascist support against the Socialists.
Why did Gioletti decide to use the Fascist s support to combat the
Socialists, when there were many other safer ways of doing so?
Principally, he believed that he could easily dominate Mussolini and once in
power again he would discard the tougher elements among the Fascists. He made a
grave mistake in believing this. In the winter of 1920 21, Mussolini organized his
men into squadre d azione (squads of action) headed by local leaders ( ras ) like
Balbo in Ferrara and
Grandi in Bologna. Primarily, Mussolini s clever planning was demonstrated by his
success: His initial campaign of violence against the Socialists led to 200 dead and
800 wounded in the period between
December 1920 and May 1921. The government, in accordance with its alliance with
the Fascists, did little to prevent the violence, and instead saw it as a cheap way of
The Overcoat Literary Analysis
In the short story The Overcoat, Nikolai Gogol satirizes government bureaucracy and
illustrates the ridiculousness of government figures. In the story, a ninth class clerk
named Akaky has a new overcoat stolen from him, and when he goes to the
government for help, he is met with disdain that eventually causes him to fall ill and
die. Through the literary devices of tone, point of view, and characterization, Gogol
makes mockery of social classes and the government.
In the story, Gogol uses a humorous tone to satirize government officials. Although
the subject matter is very serious with Akaky s poor lifestyle on top of the crime he
has fallen victim to, Gogol uses humor to illustrate the silliness of government
officials. One prime example ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He does this by telling the story in third person omniscient, and emphasizing the
silliness of the government s mindset by entering it, while also showing Akaky s
shock to the ridiculous actions of government officials. An example of this is the
conversation between the important personage and Akaky over the crime of his
stolen overcoat. When Akaky first enters the office of the important personage, the
important personage is said to have spoken with a hard sharp voice, that he has
practiced at home in front of a mirror, before taking the job. Although it is shown to
the audience that the harsh disposition of the important personage is a farce, Akaky
can not see this. Gogol then flips to his perspective, where Akaky is attempting to
control his tongue because he is so scared. After the important personage attempts to
establish himself as superior, Akaky has to be taken out of the office, where he is
almost unconscious. The perspective then flips back to the important personage, who
is pleased at the dramatic effect that he had created. Gogol uses this third person
omniscient point of view in order to show not only the sham of the self important
government officials, but also to illustrate its disastrous effect on the lower class. By
looking at the situation from

  • 2. Use Of Similes In Dante s Inferno IV Author s use of Language/ Literary Devices: Personification: Dante s twist on personification is evident throughout his work, as it was extremely common in this era. Within the first Canto we can already imagine the words vividly, Upward I looked, and I beheld its shoulders Vested already with that planet s rays Which leadeth others right by every road. In this example Dante is actually speaking about a mountain s foot, which he has just stumbled upon. When he says vested already with the planet s rays, he is referring to the sun s light. Archetypes: Dante uses archetypes* when he is explaining the different circles. *An archetype is a typical example of a certain person or thing. EX Similes: Dante s Inferno is overflowing with similes, such as the blood that flows from the snapped twig in the suicide woods is an example, it compares the normal sap to the thickness of blood. Homeric Similes: Dante s use of epic, or homeric similes are much more common among his written work in the Inferno. Since he likes to add lots of details that elongate his sentences, they aren t hard to find in the book. As chanting cranes will form a line in the air, so I saw souls come uttering cries (V.39). This simile juxtaposes the souls of Hell crying in agony to chanting cranes, as they are both protesting something in their own way. Epithet: Dante often uses epithets to provide the reader with definitive descriptions of characters or the setting. Great connoisseur of sin (V.37). This text alludes to Minos, the king of Crete, who constructed a beast called the Minotaur, who assailed people in the Labyrinth. Imagery: Imagery is an important theme through Dante s Inferno that Dante uses frequently to give us images to describe ..my guide, Embraced my neck and kissed me on the face.. (VIII.40 41). The imagery used in these lines provide an image of how Virgil treats Dante. V Motif to Develop Theme: In Dante s Inferno the recurring theme in the literary work is the punishment of sins, and the severity that the people in hell suffer as a consequence. Pierro delle Vigne explains the actions of that which: led him to hell, suicide, and how it condemned him to eternity in hell as a tree trunk. He confesses, My

Accounting Oversight Board Summary PThe Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has the authorization and duty to inspect auditing firms to make sure they are in compliance with law, rules, and professional standards in connection with the auditing reports of public companies. Some deficiencies noted by the PCAOB in the inspection reports of Deloitte Touche LLP, KPMG, BDO LLP, and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP are discussed in the following paper. PCAOB Release No. 104 2016 14 Inspection of Deloitte Touche LLP August 10, 2016 According to the PCAOB document, many audit deficiencies involving Deloitte Touche LLP dealt with a lack of due professional care. Since these locations had a significant percentage of the audited companies total inventory, there was a reasonable possibility of material misstatement. Issuer K also found a problem with KPMG s limited testing of different locations (Page 25). KPMG failed to perform sufficient testing of net sales and accounts receivable at certain of the issuer s locations, which represented over 35 percent of consolidated net sales and accounts receivable. To test net sales and accounts receivable at these locations, KPMG only tested management reports that included comparisons of financial statement accounts to those in prior periods. I used my fog to clock in and also signed the staff book so that in case of fire the place would need to be evacuated. Then I changed my clothes and put on my uniform and my black shoes, put all my belongings into my locker including my phone, tied my hair up and checked for my uniform to look nice and to have my badge with my name on it; all in accordance with company Policies and Procedures. I washed my hands and at 7.55 I went to the floor ready for work. I have checked the board to see which unit I was allocated to. I was working on Thames Unit and my team was made up of 5 care assistants and one nurse. The nurse did the hand over regarding all changes and concerns from night staff and then she allocated each of us 3 residents. My residents were MR J, MR B and MRS M ( obviously these are pseudonyms in order to maintain confidentiality in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council NMC 2015 Code of Conduct). The United States became a unified front and interstate travel become safe, cheap and efficient. Industries related to the railroad began to prosper, fueling much of the American economy. Entrepreneurs quickly began to take advantage of this boom and thus American Big Business was born. George Pullman was one of the many prominent tycoons of this RailroadEra . The town of Pullman began to quickly populate as an industrial and residential center. Pullman s intention of improving living conditions was an immediate success. Outside visitors frequently commented on the clean streets, beautiful foliage and newly erected tenements and houses. They were more spacious and comfortable than those of the inner city. However, it must be noted that even though the new residences were quite remarkable they could not be purchased. Instead, they were rented out to Pullman in advance who received a reasonable 6 percent profit. Many historians believe that the inability to own property was one of the main flaws of Pullman. The average length of residence in 1892 was four and a quarter years. Many residents later purchased homes in neighboring towns. Asked why he had bought a home, an ex resident answered that he felt a greater freedom in his own place. The company did nothing to stop the residents from moving out. It was their belief that the town s moral environment had prepared the men for the symbol of middle class respectability. The behavior of the workingmen showed a

One of the most renown professor specialized in the field, Borjas, concluded in 2001 that immigration, especially low skill, only decreases the wage elasticity (percent change in hours working over percent change in salary) of the natives to about .3% to .4% (41 Kerr). Similarly, Altonji and Card estimated a negligible negative effect on total employment about 0.1% by 1989 (43 Kerr). There are several academic explanations for the small effect of immigration to the United States. Daniel Chiquiar and Gordon H. Hanson, for example, observed that the major flow of immigration from Mexico, though still somewhat considered unskilled in US, rather... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of immigrants, the neoliberal structure of the US economy is the main culprit of the current employment tensions and low skilled labor supply surplus. Neoliberalism refers to the ideological practices and political economic structures that serve the corporate instead of public interest (23 Harvey). Specifically, it advocates steps of privatization, financialization, the management and manipulation of crisis, and state redistributions benefit the corporate power. Nevertheless, different from the traditional capitalism defined by either Adam Smith or Keynes, it emphasizes more on the systematic involvement of the government to support their local and oversea interests (Harvey). In result, it possesses a strange but unique phenomenon not predicted by many scholars the inability to upgrade the labor to meet the demand of supply. Neoliberalism promotes the large outflow of capital oversea, especially those that are best characterized by labor intensive industries. These industries usually require minimal amount of training and generate mass employment. On the other hand, the high ended technological and innovative capital, best characterized by capital intensive industries, remained domestic. These industries often demand a great amount of skill and training, whose cost are very high, but provide only limited employment. In these cases,

It s important at this point in team development to have a clear objective, define goals, and plan how the team will achieve their tasks. In my previous groups in 1st term, there was some discomfort and confusion, I think, primarily due to the fact that we did not know each other well and did not have clear goals and an understanding of how we would function together as a team. But in the GDTB group, some of us had already worked together for another assignment in 1st term so it was easier for us to work together again for GDTB project. Through this project we learned more about each other and also talked about our goals, interests in how we would work
  • 10. Pros And Cons Of Network Administrator Abstract Every Single day it is indeed a full time job for the network administrator to keep up with the changing technologies. These new technologies come with new challenges, threats, and vulnerabilities which a smart network administrator must solve to keep the system secure. The network administrator must keep up with new hacking techniques, latest countermeasures, and in depth knowledge of company s data to address the suspicious activities and minimize their effects. But then comes the question of Ethics. Should the network administrator access employees private emails or websites logs to ensure company s rules aren t violated? Is it ok to browse employees documents or graphics files stored on the computers or on file servers? So, the network administrator has both charms and pitfalls as he has a huge responsibility to secure the company by carrying out his duties in an ethical way. • 12. Comparing The Sun And The Moon In One Day In The Life Of... The sun and the moon have long been seen as a dichotomy through various cultures. Day and night, hot and cold; the list can continue with different interpretations. But, in a Gulag labour camp, where a convict s thoughts are no freer than he is (40) subjected only to the unjust oppression by the Soviet government their ideas of what the sunand mooncan mean is significantly repressed to ideas of misfortunes that are perpetuated by the camp and the government. In Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, the sun and the moon are symbols of two ideas that derive from the prisoner s experience in the Gulag camp: incarceration and enlightenment. Although the sun is often thought as empowering, the prisoners... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The novel explores what life might be like outside of camp on one occasion, when Ivan Denisovich s wife sent him a letter about carpet dyeing. Despite having an opportunity outside of camp, Denisovich was indifferent because he lost the habit of scheming how he was going to feed his family (44). The guards give prisoners work to do, and that is the prisoner s only purpose in life once they are incarcerated. How the sun represents incarceration despite the sun s lively connotations, it transcends the confusion that the labour camp and the Soviet government were stirring in the prisoner s head. Using the moon s symbolism, it leads prisoners and the readers to contemplate on this underlying turmoil. But even though life in prison is difficult, somehow life was easier (44) because Denisovich did not have to bear the burden of his family. He was also questioning if life was easier here or there (178). This seemingly unquestionable conclusion that a life of liberty outside of camp is much easier than a life of incarceration inside of camp is being obfuscated by the Soviet government. The prisoners no longer know what they want, and this confusion alludes to how the Soviet government is wrecking havoc both in the camps and the nation. Solzhenitsyn was trying to convey this idea through One Day in the Life of

College, especially college parties, can be a very dangerous place for women. Rates of sexual assault are extremely high on college campuses. These women likely mixed and brought their own drinks so they would know they aren t getting drugged. The men weren t worried about being drugged by drinking open solo cups of beer that were setting out in public. This is an example of male privilege. The men at the party didn t need to worry about being drugged and possibly assaulted because the overwhelming majority of assaults are committed by men and the victims are

  • 15. Upgrading Data Communication At The Classroom Upgrading data communication in the classroom would be an appropriate technological advantage because research indicates that broadband and cloud computing are transforming education. The outdated teaching tools that we grew up with (i.e. chalkboards and hardback books) are now being replaced with interactive digital content delivered through high speed broadband using blackboard and e books. This means elementary school students can explore the surface of the sun through high definition video as they learn about the solar system. Furthermore, middle schoolchildren can experience history lessons through interactive videos and high schoolstudents can discover geometry through gaming (Robyler, M. D. Edwards, J., 2000, p. 79). Consequently, accessing broadband for digital learning is a necessity for students to have a chance to compete in todays technological society. From a pedagogical standpoint, updating communications in the classroom creates an environment of enrichment and engages students actively in the learning process. Upgrading the data communications in the classroom from a programmatic perspective enables students and teachers to quickly access the database, monitor seismographic data, and establish electronic pen pals in Latin America (Picciano, 2011, p. 110). What historians regard as the most efficient genocide in history, occurred in a mere 100 days in the small central African country of Rwanda. The Hutus and the Tutsis, two ethnic groups within Rwanda, have been at continual unrest for the past half a century. During the 100 day massacre of 1994, a murder occurred every two seconds; resulting in 18% of the Tutsi population being killed. A decade after the war, in 2004, the film Hotel Rwanda was released. Before Rwanda became an independent African run country, it was under Belgian control. In the 1930s Belgium imposed indirect rule and put Tutsis in control of government. The Belgians did not invent the two ethnic groups, Hutu and Tutsi, but colonial intervention enforced a new meaning for the two ethnicities and thus engrained a hierarchy among the Rwandans . The Tutsis could be determined by their taller slighter build, lighter skin and thinner noses; in conclusion, they were the whitest Africans . By 1994 the two groups were visibly indistinguishable because of mixed parentage. This is portrayed in the movie Hotel Rwanda when a journalist asks two women what ethnicity they are; he discovers that one is Hutu and the other Tutsi. The journalist replies that the women could be twins. In the 1950s the newly established United Nations began to pressure Belgium to vacate Rwanda. Belgium introduced reforms to increase Hutu representation in politics, so from the 1950s until 1962, when Rwanda achieved independence a Hutu movement was born. The Hutu movement was gaining momentum and national recognition; the violence conducted during this period forced thousands of Tutsis to leave the country. In 1961 Belgium sponsored the federal election and a Hutu man, Gregoire Kayibanda was elected to power. This Hutu revolution excluded Tutsis from government and military. Kayibanda s successor,

  • 18. Elements Of A Mystery Novel Elements of a mystery novel is similar to other genre of novels since they all include characters, settings, problems and solutions with necessary descriptions and suspense throughout. In a mystery novel, the protagonist is usually the sleuth where they figure out the puzzle and as Christopher Boone, narrator of the novelThe Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time, states, If it is a good puzzle you can sometimes work out the answer before the end of the book (5). This is referring to the clues the author provides which can also be a distraction known as a red herring. In relation to this, the most valuable information is typically gained throughout the process of the investigation rather than the solution itself. Although the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time isn t classified as a detective story, the plot still goes through an investigation and shares elements of a mystery novel. The mystery within the story that keeps the novel going is to find the killerof Mrs. Shears poodle, Wellington and in turn, shapes the ending where we see the development of the protagonist after he learns the crazy reality of life. The novel begins with Christopher stumbling upon dead Wellington and gets blamed as the killer which is what initiated the investigation. If this occurrence did not happen, then Christopher would not have wanted to find the real killer since death is never a drawback for him. In fact, Christopher views death as an inevitable event so

Democracy can be interpreted in different ways, for it means the power of the people where the public decide who they want as they leader by a majority vote system who represents the views of the people. Lisbon Treaty gave these rights the force of law therefore these rights are not to be violated by member states and must maintain a healthy baseline of democracy. Many academics have argued that the EU is suffering from a democratic deficit due to the Euopean not having enough power and for other reasons which will be discussed. I will discuss the observation of Joseph Weilers standard version of the democratic deficit and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of his argument. This essay will examine the reasons why many academics and authors believe there is a democratic deficit. Further discussions will point to renowned intellectuals who reject the idea of democratic deficit , such as Professor Andrew Moravcsik and Proffesor Giandomencio Majone who both refute the idea that the EU lacks democratic accountability for different reason which will be discussed in detail. My conclusion will include my belief that the EU does suffer from a democratic deficit and this will be supported by the powerful evidence that will be stated throughout this essay. • 20. The Power Of Fate In Romeo And Juliet There are many powerful forces on this earth. It can permanently affect a person s life, whether it be fortunate or atrocious. Romeo and Juliet illustrates the lives of two young star crossed lovers who take their lives together after they discover that their affection will never be compatible. They are lead to believe that they love each other, and though love is a strong element in life, love is not what drove them to meet each other, or eventually kill themselves. It is fate that wrote their lives like a book, and its fate that decided when to write the last page of that book. Fate is the development of events beyond a person s control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power. It is the force that is more powerful than any element of human nature on earth. No one can surpass/change it; it is impossible to try to erase the words of your story. Fate is inevitable, and whether it is good or bad, you must accept it. In Romeo And Juliet, Romeo tries to accept the fate that draw him and Juliet apart, but at the end of the book, he tries to defy fate, saying Then I defy you, stars (Act 5, Scene 1, Page 266), then takes his life. However, fate is so strong, that by killing himself trying to defy fate, he actually followed its guidelines. In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare uses characterization and foreshadowing to illustrate that it is human nature to recognize that life is controlled by fate, and good or bad, it cannot be changed. Fate acts quickly in the play.

The French and Indian War Led to the Revolutionary War Essay The French and Indian War, which happened between 1754 and 1763 was a stepping stone for what would become known as the Revolutionary War. The French and Indian War was originally a dispute over the Ohio River Valley. The French considered it their territory, where as the English considered it theirs. While it was a territorial dispute between the countries, the war took place in the colonies. The colonist fought bravely beside the British, whereas the Indians sided with the French. At the beginning all the countries wanted was to claim the Ohio RiverValley as their own; however, the outcome of the war was very different. By fighting for that territory, the French sacrificed not only Quebec, but also all claim on land in the New World.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Right before the Stamp Act, the Indian Chief Pontiac attacked the colonist trying to drive them from the land for the last time. The rebellion resulted in Britain passing the Proclamation of 1763 after realizing they did not have the means to protect the vast amount of land they had acquired. The Proclamation stated that no one could settle past the Appalachian Mountains. This law angered the colonist because they believed that the land was rightfully theirs. Before the war, the colonists were in a time of Salutary Neglect. Colonist could go about their business, passing laws, running the government how they wanted. The militia was under the control of American colonist and people such as George Washingtoncould rise to the rank of Corporal. The British government had little involvement in the colonies as long as the colonies provided them with raw goods. However, with the start of the war, Salutary Neglect was over. As the British got involved in the fighting, colonist near the fighting soon joined them. However, the government passed laws that made them second class soldiers compared to the British soldiers. American colonist could not rise above the rank of Captain, which was very demeaning to people like Washington who had been a Corporal in the Virginia Militia. Conspiracy was among the possible indictments along with War Crimes, Crimes Against Humanity and Peace Crimes brought forth against the numerous Nazi s on trial. Regarding the Conspiracy charge, Periscope goes so far as to say the conspiracy charge was unnecessary. Persico s argument which I do see to hold validity, is that the conspiracy charge is simply piling on to build a greater quantitative case against the selected high ranking Nazi s while in no way at all helping the quality of the case. It was virtually impossible to prove the guilt of any of the Nazi s by way of the conspiracy charge as zero defendants were convicted of this charge by itself. There is also the concept that Persico grapples with which is if one high ranking Nazi effectively murders MANY innocent people and this Nazi is put on trial and later hanged, is justice served. My belief is that although the scale is most definitely tipped, justice was served in the most just possible way which appears to align with the ideas Persico debates in the epilogue. This form of justice that was executed or any form of justice for that matter may not feel as fulfilling as it ought to be knowing the horrible atrocities that were committed, however I believe that this was the best way of handling the situation at

Before exploring the revolution which took place in the late nineteenth century, it is important to look at the pre telephoneera, the factors that went into the invention of the telephone, how the telephone changed the world, and how it impacts society today. When talking about the pre telephone era, many people fail to realize that their were many well established forms of communication. The first official United States Post Office was established on July 25, 1775 and was headed by Benjamin Franklin. Since the 1880 s there have been numerous advancements in the classification, identification, and obtaining the prints from various objects. (U.S. Department of Justice) The patterns of fingerprints are classified in one of the three main categories. The main categories are arches, loops, and whorls. In the arch category, you have four sub categories. There, you have the plain, tented, radial, and ulnar arches. With the loops, you have two sun categories; ulnar and radial. The whorl also has four sub categories. The four sub categories for the whorl are: plain, central pocket, double loop, and accidental whorl. In the population encountered the percentages for each pattern are: arches account for about 5%, 60 to 70% of the population has loops, and whorls account for 25 to 35%. Arches basically run from one side to the other with no backwards turn along the delta or middle of the finger. As for the loop pattern, they run to the delta and then it turns back towards or touches the line and goes back in the direction that it entered. The whorls are basically a circle or continuous lines that whorl around the delta. There are several different ways to obtain or lift a sample fingerprint off of a surface. The different techniques are patent prints, latent prints, alternate light source, cyanoacrylate or by using chemical developers. In using the patent technique, all you have to do is

The Treaty of Tordesillas divided the New World into land, resources, and people claimed by Spain and Portugal. Pope Alexander VI issued and official order which divided the New World lands between Spain and Portugal. A north south line of separation would be placed west of the Cape Verde Islands. The Treaty of Tordesillas was signed on June 7, 1494 and authenticated at Setubal, Portugal. In the town of Tordesillas in 1494, representatives of Portugal and Spaincame to a negotiated agreement to their dispute. The separating line was moved 370 leagues west of the Cape Verde Islands. Even though Portugal gained a larger part of South America, Spain got control of most of the New World . In 1506, the agreement was officially recognized by Pope Alexander. Spain and Portugal, with a few concessions, both countries remained loyal to the treaty. Portugal expanded into Brazil crossing the line separating the two countries, but Spain did not oppose. The natives of these regions were not consulted about the assignment of their homelands to others and competing powers in Europe totally ignored the line. This treaty ignored future claims of the French and British, the other superpowers of Europe at the time. The British, Russian, and French empires did not take any parts of the Americas for several years following the Treaty of Tordesillas. The Treaty of Tordesillas ignored the millions of people that inhabited and established communities in the Americas. The treaty agreed that lands with a Christian king would not be colonized . In the Fragments, the author, Sappho, uses this tool to gain attention from the gods for herself. Sappho is a lover of love and her work shows her obsession with love as most of her partially retained and transcribed lyrics focus on love and its different forms. In supplication to the goddess Aphrodite, Sappho writes, Deathless Aphrodite of the spangled mind... I beg you do not break with hard pains, O lady, my heart (The Fragments, pg.3). Due to the fact that love is Aphrodite s domain, Aphrodite pays attention to Sappho someone who personifies and respects the power of love. Subsequently, after Sappho s supplication, Aphrodite asks, Whom should I persuade (now again) to lead you back into her love? Who, O Sappho, is wronging you? (The fragments, pg.3). The use of the phrase now again indicates that Aphrodite not only pays attention to Sappho, but that Aphrodite helps Sappho in issues of love repeatedly. Out of context, the phrase now again also denotes and exasperated tone, however, the preceding context states that Aphrodite greeted Sappho smiling a symbol of pleasure with another. What was worst of all was that by means of such organizations as the Spies they were systematically turned into ungovernable little savages, and yet this produced in them no tendency whatever to rebel against the discipline of the Party. On the contrary, they adored the Party and
  • 39. Dictatorship In Lord Of The Flies Lord of the Flies William Golding s novel, Lord of the flies is about how a plane that was carrying young military school boy crashes on an island. The pilot is killed but the many boys that survive the crash, find themselves on a deserted island with no supervision. The author uses Jack who is one of the main characters as the dictator and one of the authority figures. Therefore, Jack has total control of people who follow him. Jacks rebellious actions were cruel and unacceptable. An example of that is when he killed Simon with his group because they didn t even bother to look if he is the monster or not. In the story Jack s group is stronger and Ralph s is weaker which leads to a lot of conflicts and lives being taken. An example of dictatorship is when Simon finds out that the captain is dead and tries to go tell the other boys but, they follow him and killhim cruelly. Another example is when Piggy was talking and trying to tell the groups that they should unite or they might be stuck on that island forever, one of the former members of Jack s group kicked down a huge piece of rock which hit Piggy and took his life. The other things that shows us the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because, dictators have always been selfish by making decisions that affect a large amount of people (usually in a bad way) and they have total control over everything which makes them free to do anything and everything they want and the author is telling us that. The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy everyone gets a vote but, in dictatorship only one person get a vote and that leads to people not being happy with where they live and how their government is growing as a dictatorship. Therefore, I agree with William Goldingbecause I think that dictatorship is cruel and should not be tolerated because it can lead to people losing their lives and the country to being in
  • 40. Green Burial Life has a cycle and death is inevitable. We all die. How we die and the choice of the body s disposal is what sets up apart. It is easy to think the American way of death is the same for everyone but that s far from the truth. There are many ways to create a meaningful send off after one s death. This include traditional burials, cremation and a growing practice, green burials. For the past 150 years, American funerals have consisted of traditional burial practices which include interment of the entire body with the use of embalming in impenetrable wood or metal caskets with concrete vaults and liners (Harris, p.13). It involves the pumping of embalming fluid, mainly formaldehyde, into to the body to slow decay (Harker 2012). The assumption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specifically, for Jewish or Muslim funeral traditions, green burial is an easy way to meet the requirements of the individual canon law. Both of these religions reject embalming and encourage the natural decomposition of the body. With the Muslim funeral rites including the washing of the body, shrouding, funeral prayer, and burial (Campo, p.161). Similarly, the Jewish funerary rites include the tahara which is the washing and shrouding of the body by a chevra kadhisha (Golbert, p.56). One religion that green burials wouldn t be able to fit the requirements of a traditional funeral is Christianity, that involves a viewing, a vigil, funeral mass and right to committal (Larson Miller, p.102 103). Even though, in terms of Christian belief and environmental concerns, it makes more sense because it seems to honor the Old Testament verse in Genesis which says from dust you are, and to dust you shall return . It also makes the point that death is a natural process that involves decay. The simplicity and authenticity it possesses are two of the many qualities that appeal to its consumers (Chiu 2016). The Green burials allow for the decease to have a choice in the way that they leave the earth and how they are remembered. Whether it s by reducing their carbon footprint, rekindling one s relation to the earth or having and allowing
  • 41. Bowlby Theory Essay Much of Bowlby (1969,1973) theory focused on broken attachments such as the maternal deprivation hypothesis this study looked at the background of 44 Adolescents who had been referred to a clinic to see what emotional effect stealing had on them. Bowlby found that that the thieves had experienced frequent separations from their mothers before the age of two compared to those who didn t steal.32% of the thieves were diagnosed as affectionless psychopaths (they didn t care about how their actions affected others)This may be due to a result of their long term separation away from their mothers over a significant period of time. This demonstrates that;deprivation of a child from its main carer early on in life can have harmful long term consequences such as;separation anxiety, isolation, emotional insecurity and fear.Furthermore, the result indicated that there is a link between deprivation and criminal behaviour.Untimatley, there may be other factors such as;trauma, flaws in individual makeup and brain abnormalities that may influence criminal behaviour. This study is ecologically valid as it took place in hospital clinic.Notwithstanding, there are
  • 42. Essay on Fascism On the 23 March 1919 after a series of Communist demonstrations, the almost forgotten Mussolini decided to attempt to revive his Fasci movement. A meeting was held in a hall in a Milan and was attended by some fifty malcontents. From this seemingly small and insignificant event the Fascio di Combattimento (Combat Group) was born. Initially, it would seem that the Fasci were destined for failure with none of their candidates (including Mussolini) winning a single seat in the 1919 elections. How was it that a party with no clear programme, save a belief in action of some sort, became a ruling dictatorship little more than ten years later? By the end of 1919, Mussolini possessed hardly more than 2% of the vote in Milan, less than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interestingly, they were later to make exactly the same mistake again. The fact that Mussolini s party benefitted greatly by offering action, showed that political gains could be made from the weakness of the government and from the unrest of the country. It was at this point in 1921 that Gioletti began searching for allies against the Socialists. The Vatican had turned against him; This was mainly due to the government s proposal to tax the bonds which were a main form of Church property at the time. As a result Gioletti decided to use Fascist support against the Socialists. Why did Gioletti decide to use the Fascist s support to combat the Socialists, when there were many other safer ways of doing so? Principally, he believed that he could easily dominate Mussolini and once in power again he would discard the tougher elements among the Fascists. He made a grave mistake in believing this. In the winter of 1920 21, Mussolini organized his men into squadre d azione (squads of action) headed by local leaders ( ras ) like Balbo in Ferrara and Grandi in Bologna. Primarily, Mussolini s clever planning was demonstrated by his success: His initial campaign of violence against the Socialists led to 200 dead and 800 wounded in the period between December 1920 and May 1921. The government, in accordance with its alliance with the Fascists, did little to prevent the violence, and instead saw it as a cheap way of
  • 43. The Overcoat Literary Analysis In the short story The Overcoat, Nikolai Gogol satirizes government bureaucracy and illustrates the ridiculousness of government figures. In the story, a ninth class clerk named Akaky has a new overcoat stolen from him, and when he goes to the government for help, he is met with disdain that eventually causes him to fall ill and die. Through the literary devices of tone, point of view, and characterization, Gogol makes mockery of social classes and the government. In the story, Gogol uses a humorous tone to satirize government officials. Although the subject matter is very serious with Akaky s poor lifestyle on top of the crime he has fallen victim to, Gogol uses humor to illustrate the silliness of government officials. One prime example ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He does this by telling the story in third person omniscient, and emphasizing the silliness of the government s mindset by entering it, while also showing Akaky s shock to the ridiculous actions of government officials. An example of this is the conversation between the important personage and Akaky over the crime of his stolen overcoat. When Akaky first enters the office of the important personage, the important personage is said to have spoken with a hard sharp voice, that he has practiced at home in front of a mirror, before taking the job. Although it is shown to the audience that the harsh disposition of the important personage is a farce, Akaky can not see this. Gogol then flips to his perspective, where Akaky is attempting to control his tongue because he is so scared. After the important personage attempts to establish himself as superior, Akaky has to be taken out of the office, where he is almost unconscious. The perspective then flips back to the important personage, who is pleased at the dramatic effect that he had created. Gogol uses this third person omniscient point of view in order to show not only the sham of the self important government officials, but also to illustrate its disastrous effect on the lower class. By looking at the situation from
