Greasy Lake Literary Analysis
Biographical criticism is used to identify and establish certain aspects of stories from an author s
experience. Most authors have demonstrated this theory by writing from their own personal memories.
From Emily Dickinson to Stephen King, countless authors have either written from their own
background or put him/herself into a story. Some have even re written a terrible memory into the way
they wanted that moment to turn out. John Updike and T.C. Boyle brought this theory to life in their
works A P and Greasy Lake . By reading these stories, one can feel a personal connection to them
because they feel so profoundly relatable. Therefore, in A P and Greasy Lake , one can grasp the
actuality of the stories by putting themselves in the author s shoes and remembering their youth.
A P is an excellent use of biographical criticism when connecting to an author s past. The way Updike
wrote this short story proves to the reader that he can still make a connection to that younger part of
himself; since the main character is about nineteen years old and the author was twenty nine when he
wrote it. While reading the story, one can already connect with the familiarity of it when the main
character mentions the aggravating customer, She s one of these cash register watchers, a witch about
fifty with rouge on her cheekbones and no eyebrows...She d been watching cash registers forty years
and probably never seen a mistake before (Updike 1). For example, say that Updike used to

The Cost Of The Asset
Under generally accepted accounting principles, assets both tangible and certain intangible assets that
have an estimated useful life of more than one year but not infinitely should be allocated and
depreciated, amortized or depleted. The cost of the asset needs to be determined as well as any
possible salvage or resale value estimated. The total cost of an asset needs to not only include the
purchase price of the item but also sales taxes, installation costs, freight and interest (if applicable).
Costs currently or that are incurred in the future for maintenance and repairs is only an expense and
does not change the value of the asset. Basically, all costs that were necessary to allow the asset to
become useful should be capitalized. Depreciation, amortization and depletion are acceptable methods
used under U.S. GAAP to charge the cost of an asset used in a company s day to day operations to
expense over the periods benefited systematically. Depreciation refers to prorating tangible and
intangible asset s cost less any salvage value evenly over the useful life of the asset. For an item to be
considered an asset, it must intended for operations of the business and not for resale. Useful life
should be reasonable but can vary from one asset to another from one view point to another. Estimated
useful life is the time period in which an asset is expected to contribute to usefulness to a company.
Not all assets will have salvage value. With the exception of land, all assets are

Importance Of Credibility In Public Speaking
Ordinarily, to establish credibility, public speakers should earn the audience s trust and respect by
presenting themselves as authorities on the topic that they are speaking. Consequently, the speaker
should not rely on the content of their speech to gain credibility with the audience. Self presentation is
important too since the public will start judging the communicator before the speaker begins to
communicate verbally. Establish the authority to the public by speaking about the topic by stating the
source of where the knowledge: experience, training, or research came into perspective. When
speaking to a skeptical audience, begin by finding common ground. Acknowledge the appeal of the

When in doubt, choose the side of formal professional attire. Second, look at the public because it
shows sincerity. Nevertheless, the speakers who make eye contact with the audience appear more
open, trustworthy, and confident. Notwithstanding, if reading from a script or consulting cue cards,
look up frequently to maintain the connection with the audience. Third, the necessary step to establish
credibility is to speak loudly, clearly, and confidently. Confidence has become known to cause

Fourth, tell your audience about your credentials because trust has become contagious to fans will
begin to believe more readily if an individual can prove that others value the person s expertise.

personal connection to the chosen topic. Answer questions for the audience what has become at stake
for the speaker? How has the subject affected the speaker s individual s life? If it is appropriate, then
share a personal anecdote illustrates to establish a relationship to the topic. Lastly, step six builds

The Absurd
The Absurd: What then is implied by the idea of the Absurd? In spite of the view passed on by pop
culture, the Absurd, in any event not what Camus had expressed, that it doesn t just allude to some
dubious discernment that current life is full of mysteries, incoherencies, and scholarly disarray. Rather,
as he accentuates and tries to clarify, the Absurd communicates an essential disharmony, a deplorable
contrariness, in our reality. As a result, he contends that the Absurd is the result of an impact or
showdown between our human yearning for request, which means, and reason in life and the clear,
impassive quiet of the universe : The crazy is not in man nor on the planet, but rather in their nearness
together... it is the main bond joining them. (The Myth of Sisyphus, Chapter 2, Absurd Walls) The
Revolt: The buddy subject to the Absurd in Camus oeuvre is Revolt. What is revolt? Essentially
characterized, it is the Sisyphean soul of insubordination even with the Absurd. All the more in fact
and less figuratively, it is a soul of restriction against any apparent injustice, abuse, or outrage in the
human condition. Genuine revolt is performed for the self ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Experiment Of Mendelian Genetics
Brassica Rapa
Experiment of Mendelian Genetics
Genetics 304
Dr. Assefa
Dec 08, 2010
Introduction
Gregor Johann Mendel, the father of genetics, was born in 1822. He was a priest and scientist who
became famous for his work and studies on the inheritance patterns using pea plants. Gregor Mendel
used pea plants known as Pisumsativum in his research where he developed two fundamental laws of
genetics known today as the Law of segregation , and the Law of independent assortment (Hartl,
1992). The Law of segregation states that when an individual produces a gamete, the copies of a given
gene separate in which each gamete receives only one copy of that gene. The phenotypic ratio in the
F2 generation according to the Law of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most important Brassica rapa features is that many generations can be grown in a short
period of time for experimental analysis and comparison(Tsunoda, 1980).Brassica rapaplants are
involved in many research works recently in which they are crossed with other crops to modify their
genetic fitness(Tompkins, 1990). The Chi Square ( ) test was used in this experiment to determine
whether the statistical data supports or rejects the hypothesis.
Materials and Methods The experiment was successfully accomplished in classroom where the
Brassica Rapa were grown under suitable conditions. The experiment began by developing a watering
system to the plants using the idea of capillary action. The watering system was made up of a plastic
reservoir filled with a certain amount of water and a water mat placed on the top of the plastic
reservoir. This design was helpful in making sure that the plants are receiving water constantly. Also,
one piece of copper sulfate was addedinto the reservoir to avoid any algal growth. Two Styrofoam
quads with four cells each were used for planting the seeds of Brassica Rapa. The cells were numbered
from one to eight and a wick was placed in each cell in a way that allowed water access from the
water mat through the capillary action. Each cell was then half way filled with soil and two fertilizers

Similarities Between Black Men And American History X And...
Back in the 1800 s, when calculating the population, African Americans were counted as 3/5 of a
person (Antonia Kathleen, p2). One would think that in the past two hundred year s people beliefs
would have changed a little bit, but the general white public are stuck into believing the common
stereotypes commonly portrayed in movies. In films and television shows blacks are almost always
portrayed as murderers, robbers, rapists, pretty much anything negative, like
American History X, for example. Two black men are shown breaking into a white man s car.
People see this, and in turn believe that all black men will try and steal their car; as stupid as it may
seem, it is true, and as a result, film producers try to incorporate ... Show more content on

MacDonald stated in Allan Smith s essay, American mass culture continued to operate as an
assimilative force, seeking to maintain social stability while gradually merging people of different
backgrounds into the cultural mainstream (Smith, p2). What MacDonald is trying to say is that movie
producers can t just throw the huge movie roles out to black film stars. White people might not take it
very well and possibly get the impression that minorities will never amount to anything, nor be a large
portion of the population. In the late 1970 s, the hit movie Roots took the country by storm serving as
an icebreaker for minorities getting into the movie industry. It showed the world that a movie
consisting of all black actors could still be a very popular movie. Even though it revolved around the
concept of slavery, once Roots came out, minorities started to show up more and more in films. In the
years to come, this trend would become more and more of a standard in America s mainstream culture.
In the late 1980 s a film entitled Lethal Weapon came out. In this movie, a black man is shown having
the family and being the successful one, while Mel Gibson, the white man, plays the role of the
suicidal lunatic after the death of his new wife. This movie was one of the first few movies where this
kind of thing was going on. Just for laughs, the two would make fun of each other and make
somewhat racist assumptions about each other. But in

The Pros And Cons Of Political Parties
In a letter to Jonathan Jackson in October, 1789, John Adams wrote, There is nothing which I dread so
much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and
concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as
the greatest political evil under our Constitution , yet in modern day society, this is exactly the way the
government is set up. Political parties, or, similar politically minded people who work as a group to
influence public policy by getting candidates elected to office, are in control of the current
government. In the United states political parties compete each other to gain more political power and
for the ability to put their policies into effect. As a result of events in history leading up to today, there
are now two major political parties in the US. The United States is known to have a variety of political
parties within it, but the Republican and Democratic parties have shown through the strongest,
disagreeing with each other on most political and social issues, but being able to find some agreement
on others. There are minor parties, but none so far have been able to gain the support needed to win a
national election. Political parties had beginnings outside of the US, when they were first thought of in
Greece. During the late 1600 ancient Greeks had a senate with two groups that represented people
with different interests, called the Plebeians and the Patricians. The

Analysis Of The Movie Bill Cosby
Ruining a reputation is as easy as ruining a life. Just keep secrets. It may be a forbidden relationship or
one from the past that comes to haunt later. The latter is true for Bill Cosby. After Hannibal Burress
called Cosby a rapist in a comedy act in October 2014, several women s stories came to national
attention. Barbara Bowman wrote an essay, about her experience with Bill Cosby for Washington Post
online on November 13th, 2014. She explains how the relationship started off harmlessly. He had a
TV show and she was a 17 year old aspiring model so he gave her tips and they bonded over the
industry. The first time he assaulted her was at his home in New York City, where he had invited her to
dinner. I blacked out after having dinner and one glass of wine [...]. When I came to [...] Cosby was
looming over me. I m certain now that he drugged and raped me the essay written by Bowmen
reveals. She wasn t sure, as a teenager, if it was her imagination. He was famous for his family man
persona and she was just a young model. She was afraid if she said something she would be criticized
for trying to deface Cosby s image, being accused that she was just lying to get attention and publicity.
Her story had been published a handful of times before Burress s accusation but only now is it taking
actual hold in the media. His comment along with accusations from several women created a public
outcry. Barbara Bowman is not alone with her experience, a handful of other women, actresses and

The Importance Of Voting In The United States

about it. You can help others by just voting who those who cannot voice their opinions. However,
change will be done but if no one votes that will affect a lot more than you realize. Bad politicians will
result in no voting. Also as a result you ll gain some credibility. In other words, you cannot complain
if you haven t voted. Voting shows you are part of a bigger group and you care about what is going on
around you. There are many people who cannot vote so by you voting you can help other many others.
As a US citizen it is your right to vote and make the United States the best it can be. Additionally, you

African Ferican Vs African Americans
We fought for our rights to become one as an individual, to have freedom and liberty as the next race.
We ve been ridiculed because of the color of our skin and disrespected by the rude derogatory names.
We fought for the right to be labeled and called an African American instead of nigger, Negro, and
color people, amongst other things. It was thought to be a respectable term but is now raising feuds
amongst African Americans who have different tones of black and brown on their skin. An African
American has totally different morals and cultural beliefs than an African who was born and raised in
the countries of Africa. They have a different way of living, a different government and law, and
different struggles. A shared complexion does not equal a shared culture, nor does it automatically
lead to friendships, says Kofi Glover, a native of Ghana and a political science professor at the
University of South Florida. Whether we like it or not, Africans and African Americans have two
different and very distinct cultures. (TRACIE REDDICK) African Americans aren t always accepting
to their own people when they come from a different country to America. Sometimes they make fun of
them because they re not the same, or a little darker skin complexion, their accent, and also the way
they dress and carry themselves. You can never just put any person of a certain race into a category
because you never know the history of their people. Some people are mixed in

My Life Of My Grandmother
In 66 years, you can t imagine how much has changed in the world. When I was talking to my
grandmother, I was surprised at how many similarities and differences I heard. Some of the things I
learned about was their transportation, school, and what she did for entertainment. I realized that this
world is very different than the world she grew up in and we should be grateful for what we have.
My grandma s name is Usha Patel and she currently is 66 years old. She was born in Umalla, India
and she grew up with her brother, parents, and her grandparents. During that time period, nobody
owned phones or any type of technology. If they wanted to contact people, they would have to mail
letters. There were post offices almost around every corner. Unlike today, they had dirt roads for the
vehicles to drive on. Their transportation was mostly by foot, but there were some people with cars.
Their environment wasn t that advanced yet, but there were rickshaw s for transportation if they had to
go somewhere far. My grandmother s school was in her village. By that I mean, very close, not even
miles away. Everyday she would walk to school with her friends. Her school was a lot like ours today.
My grandma did have very strict teachers, but she also had fun. They played sports like us and they
had the same subjects as we do. She had science, history, reading, math, and they also got to take a
language which was English. In history class, my grandmother learned things that were similar to

Renaissance Music Critical Analysis
Critical Analysis Assignment The use of vibrato in music stemming from the Late Renaissance music
is highly debated. Christopher Jackson s article entitled An Examination of Vibrato discusses the
issues revolving around the use of vibrato in music from the Late Renaissance time period. The author
s goals isn t to arrive at a side of the matter. However, he clearly states that he wishes to shed some
new light on the views of these two opposing schools... I believe this article is meant for both
musicologists and choral directors alike. The music of this time period is still being performed to this
day and each performance varies due to different interpretations of a particular piece. This article can
serve as a great tool for advising choral directors on specific decisions they must make within a piece
regarding the use of vibrato. The article can also be directed to musicologist who have had debates
about this vocal technique. Without any clear resolution, it leaves the question open ended, however, it
does give insight on the two sides which helps inform musicologists who favor a particular idea about
the other argument.
I do not know much about performing or interpretations of Late Renaissance music. Normally, when I
do pieces from this time period that have the issue of whether or not to perform with vibrato or
straight tone, my vocal instructor tells me to always go for vibrato. That being said, I guess I always
assumed people sing with vibrato when it came to this

Hospitals and Ambulatory Care
1) The traditional management style of hospitals have been hierarchical and internally focused. What

These hospitals are using the manual approach of relating with consumers as will as payers.

of interests because of the big focus on facts while ignoring the personal feelings and biases.

The Impact Of Spanish Rule On Puerto Ricans Today
The Impact of Spanish Rule on Puerto Ricans Today
What was Puerto Rico like under Spanish rule, and how important is that rule to the formation of the
Puerto Rican people today? To answer these questions, we must take a look at the history of the
Spanish and their colonization of the island of Puerto Rico.
As we know, Puerto Rico was a colony of Spain found by Christopher Columbus on November 19,
1493, and remained a colony of Spain for the next 400 years. But the interesting fact remains that
Puerto Rico was not truly settled by the Spaniards until almost fifteen years later! In 1508, Juan Ponce
de Leon came to settle the land of Borinken, and founded the town of Caparra. This was the start of a
proud people that would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The few surviving Tainos took off to the mountains for survival. The first two important elements of
whom and what makes up Puerto Rican people, is here. The Taino Indians are 1/3 of the element. The
second element, were the Spaniards.
The Spanish now were the main people of the island, but there was only one problem now. There was
no more gold to be found (which was the original reason most of the Spaniards came), and Puerto
Rico had to be productive to Spain in some fashion.
Facing the fact that there was no more gold, the Spaniards looked to the rich land and soil for the next
way that Puerto Rico could help the Kingdom of Spain. They raised cattle, and they planted staple
crops, but sugarcane was the bread and butter so to speak. The only problem was that they could only
trade with Spain for a long time and Spain grew their own sugarcane, too. But let s not jump ahead of
ourselves here. What was needed was a labor force to work these fields, and the Taino Indians were
living in the Hinterlands. There was no way they were going to work those fields.
This brings us to the third main element that makes up the Puerto Rican people. This third main
element, were the African slaves that were brought in. In fact, the three main elements were all
together on the island of Puerto Rico in a relatively short time span. The proof of this is

When the case was finally to be decided before the bench, the new Lord gave a blisteringly powerful
closing argument when it looked to all that the case was lost. They should have known better.
Monboddo s five hour speech turned the tide for Douglas as well as gaining for his Lordship a brilliant
legal reputation.
His personal life was not without its personal tragedy though. He married beautiful, accomplished
Grace Farquharson. They had a son and two daughters but sadly, Grace died giving birth to child
number three. Arthur, his son, also died in childhood.
As he grew older he indulged his passion for writing and in 1773, published a massive tome, Of the
Origin and Progress of Man and Language , a study of evolution predating Darwinian theory.
Remarking on the humanoid features of the orang utang, then a little known primate, Monboddo
daringly suggested that the ape might be related to humans. Anticipating Charles Darwin by
generations, this offhand observation made him a laughing stock. Unsurprisingly this and other offbeat
ideas afforded endless matter for jest by the wags of the day although nowadays they are understood
to be related to the theory of evolution. In Boswell: Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides, Samuel Johnson
says, We talked of the Ouran Outan and of Lord Monboddo s thinking that he might be taught to
speak. Dr. Johnson treated this with ridicule and said, ..... it is as possible that the Ouran Outang does

Political Science Essay. Term 2. Considering The Experience
Political science essay. Term 2
Considering the experience of one country with compulsory voting, and one in which voting is
voluntary, does compulsory voting tend to enhance the quality of democracy?
Compulsory voting can be defined as the legal obligation to attend the polls at election time According
to a dictionary definition, democratic state is one where supreme power is vested in the people and
exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system. There are different
democratic countries such as Canada, United States of America, Belgium, Australia and they all have
different electoral processes. Some countries practice either compulsory voting or voluntary A total of
29 countries in contemporary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to make sure everyone is exercising this right to vote, some countries have enforced laws that
prevent people from disregarding this civil duty. As an individual liberty consists in exemption from
legal control, so political liberty consists in participation in legal control. Compulsory voting is in the
interest of everyone in the country, through voting we are given a voice to decide which people
amongst us we would rather have serving and protecting us.
The initial expectation is that a substantial gap exists between the voting rates of the socially
advantaged because the latter are less informed about politics, feel more alienated from the political
system and are not the main target of mobilization efforts by political parties One of the problems with
countries with voluntary voting is that participation is low participation which can also be called low
electoral turnout. one of the problems most democratic states with voluntary voting have, is the
turnout of electoral processes. Everyone has the right to vote but people on the day of election stay
home and turnouts end up low. These states end up having less than 60% turnout. However in states
with Compulsory voting such as Australia, election turnouts have been high. the average level of
turnout under the system of compulsory voting was 91.6% If the turnouts for elections enhances
democracy why do other states

Steve Jobs Rule
A rule to live by. Well what is a rule to live by? This is the rule that suits you the best. It motivates you
everyday, and when you are in a tough situation, you can call on it to help you. The rule that I use to
live by is that when life gives you a problem, make the most out of it. This is very important to me.
Life is never a walk in the park. There are always problems that everyone face, whether they are
personal, or global. Many problems such as depression, hunger, or even disability hurt people every
day. Many people let these problems take over their lives. But, when I face a problem, I remember this

Even some of the richest most famous people face problems that they have to overcome. Look at
Steve Jobs, who faced many problems in his life. One of his problems was that when he was the co
founder of Apple, they fired him at age 30. In a speech that Steve jobs recited at Stanford, he said
What had been the focus of my entire life was gone, and it was devastating, (Jobs page 3). He knew
this was his problem, because he did not know what to do next. Steve Jobs could have quit technology
forever, but he came back and made a new company of his own. He made the most out of his problem.
In his speech he said I started a company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who
would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the world s first computer animated feature film, Toy
Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world, (Jobs page 3). This speech is a
key example of this rule to live by. This rule is important, because even when you are facing a
problem, the outcome could still be successful. This is a real life example of this rule to live by that
everyone can relate to. This can tie into fear of failure. Being fired from Apple rattled Steve Jobs. But
when we face a problem I think we all can say it takes us by surprise. This guideline can help us learn
how to problem solve and make the most out of the

Education Is The Most Important Part Of Every Human
Today, Education is the most important part of every human being in this world. But, how can a
developed country like the United States consider education as a privilege rather than a need. Today,
America is suffering from lack of workforce and education crisis. America s economy is collapsing
and it is losing to countries like china, Brazil, Russia, etc. because Americans are deprived of
education because of high college costs. High school graduates in America want to attend college but
when they attend college, either they drop out of college or they graduate but end up paying money for
student debt and loans throughout their life. According to Vermont senator Bernie sanders, today
Americans have a burden of 1.3 trillion dollars in debts and loans. This amount is much greater than
the amount of credit card. Because of lack of education, there is a huge income gap between the
wealthier and poor. America is called, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave , But how can a
country be the home of the brave if its people are not educated. To make America better and stronger,
education should be free for every U.S. citizen and so the public universities and colleges should be
free. A free education would enable every American to achieve the American Dream. It would fill the
income gap between poor and rich and would boost the economy of the nation. For a better
understanding, we must look at the cost of tuition of public universities in America. In the past decade,

Essay about Feminism and Changing Perceptions of Motherhood
Societal perceptions of motherhood in North America have changed drastically over the last century
and continue to change. Due to prescribed traditional gender roles, the concept of motherhood has
historically been latent in the concept womanhood, in that a woman s ability to reproduce was seen to
be an inherent part of her identity. Thus there existed societal pressures not only for women to become
mothers, but to fit into the impossible standard of being the perfect mother . However, as the feminist
movement gained more ground and women were increasingly incorporated into the workforce, these
traditional views of gender roles and in turn motherhood were challenged. As the family dynamics that
exist today are much more diverse, what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How N- Is The World s Best Selling Chemical Herbicide Essay
N (phosphonomethyl) glycine known as glyphosate is the world s best selling chemical herbicide.
Usually, it is combined with surfactants called POEA in order to improve the efficiency. ( Glyphosate |

Monsanto chemist John E. Franz in 1970(PENN LYNCH, 1982). He found out that glyphosate can
block the enzyme that plants need to create amino acids and other important plant metabolite. Once
the glyphosate is absorbed by the plant, it will lead the plant s death by starvation. ( Glyphosate |

The Ecstasy Of Saint Teresa Analysis
Rooted within John Berger s observations on the consumption of visual culture, in his 1972 book,
Ways of Seeing, is the statement that The relation between what we see and what we know is never
settled . Within the texts first chapter, Berger endeavours to illustrate the unique nature of perception
along with its vulnerability to influence. The author further comments on the loss of independent
thinking regarding artwork, instead being replaced by a state of false mystification . The enigmatic
nature of the Baroque piece, Girl with a Pearl Earring (c.1665), by Dutch artist Johaness Vermeer,
proves to allow for unique interpretations that are free from the learnt assumptions often implemented
by the elite art society. Berger s desire for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dynamic piece fuses architecture, sculpture and fresco to create a theatre for the spectacle which
lies in the Cornaro Chapel. Bernini depicts the spiritual awakening of the Saint as she has a vision of
an angel, who plunges a spear into her heart. The sculpture attempts replicate the sensation with the
detailed facial expression of the Saint her eyes closed and mouth open which displays a moment of
spiritual pain and pleasure as she is consumed by her love for God. The angle appears to wear a light
cloth that wraps around his figure, whilst the mortal Saint wears a heavy cloth, denoting a sense of
stability associated with earth. The tangible quality of the cloth further enhances the realism of her
transcended state. The sculptures theatrical element is foregrounded by the placement of a small
hidden window which shines daylight onto the dramatic event, illuminating the bronze shafts
representing the golden rays of heaven above. Placed on the surrounding walls are theatre boxes
which seat the patrons who witness the climatic event. Bernini s work contributed to the Counter
Reformation propaganda, as it provided pictorial evidence of the divine power of Christ to encourage
faith amongst people of all social standing. The composition of the chapel ensures that it s visitors
experience the art which defies mundanity and thus inspires awe and faith. In the promotion of
intended context, Berger asserts that reproduction of an artwork creates multiple meanings which
defer with each spectator and their respective contexts. His assertion may imply a scenario in which
the grandeur and gravity of the artwork is lost as it is perceived from a television screen in an ordinary

American Satire Examples Of Satire
In the Netflix mockumentary series, American Vandal, created by Dan Perrault, the main character
Dylan Maxwell, an 18 year old senior at Hanover High School was held responsible for performing
vandalism on 27 cars causing $100K worth of disfiguring. Everybody believed that Dylan was in
charge of the destruction, despite the fact that he claimed innocence. Instead, they thought Alex
Trimboli, the eyewitness, Ms Shapiro, the Spanish teacher and everyone else that claimed he was
behind the vandalism were speaking the truth. They put Dylan as the prime suspect based on his past
with Ms Shapiro and furthermore because they believed he was capable of committing such crime.
The examples of satire that the creators used were humour, exaggeration and irony. A diversion was
utilised to make the show enjoyable for young people, yet with the use of satire, they could influence
teenagers to appreciate the show while accepting a genuine message about how a false allegation
against anyone could destroy their lives. Many of the people in the show were biased against
rebellious teenagers which was something that Dylan was known for being. In the mockumentary,
Dylan Maxwell was accused based off his image, his past, as well as his lifestyle. A significant
number of the students that were requested to share their opinion said that what Dylan had to state did
not make a difference since he was imbecilic and so forth. The thesis of the show is never to prejudge

Viney reviews how the deism of four of Americans founders helped to shape a nation. Viney focuses
on the men that compose the Deist spectrum in America. These men are Benjamin Franklin, Thomas
Paine, and Thomas Jefferson. Viney begins by defining Enlightenment and the Deist Spectrum. He
focuses on the Enlightenment ideas about reason guiding humanity. For the deist spectrum this would
include someone who accepts the existence of God based on reasoning alone and not by revealed
religion or faith. The author explores Benjamin Franklin s autobiography and discovers that Franklin
became a deist after reading books against Deism, finding the deists arguments stronger. The next
Founder Viney explores Thomas Paine. As a deist, Paine was not a Christian. Paine rejected the claim
that God inspired the Bible because human language could be misunderstood, mistranslated, or

Finally, Viney reviews Jefferson s attitudes which were distinctly deistic and Unitarian. Jefferson

Smith states that hegemony, is the ability of the state and the ruling class to regulate beliefs within a
society. Hegemonic beliefs are dominant cultural motifs which reinforce inequality and which short
circuit attempts at critical thinking (Smith, 36). The fountain was a way to enforce and allude to the
creeds of the Pope and the Catholic Church. In this sense, it is obvious that works of art are a large
part of culture and cultural identification. The fountain became a part of history, not only because it is
still standing, but also because of the cultural significance seen in the various symbols, material and
stories behind the different parts of the fountain. While culture is an ambiguous and debatable term, it
is commonly understood and agreed that arts developed by societies define a large part of a culture.
There are several socio cultural functions of art, including being a record of history, contributing to the

The authors of this recently published review paper studied the outcomes of six randomized control
trials. These trails used several tools for screening to identify Intimate partner violence. Specifically,
they were interested in examining the rates of intimate partner violence disclosure among adult
women when computer 18 assisted, self assisted, and face to face interview screening were used to
disclose intimate partner violence. There were no significant differences in the outcomes of the study
when compared to studying the women who were screened face to face than those that used self
administered screenings. The studies did show however, that studies which used a computer assisted
screening tool had greater odds of disclosure more than the face to face interviews. Given the
sensitivities of disclosing intimate partner violence, this data suggests methods by which screening
women may be advantageous. This study relevancy is important due to the data on the research on the

Cultural Impact On The Organization
The ways in which leaders embed and transmit culture in both organizations are very different and
have a substantial cultural impact on each site. Stein (2010) gives six primary mechanisms for
embedding culture and six secondary mechanisms for embedding culture. Before reading Schein the
focus was mostly on the, feel of the organization but not how the culture was created and impacted by
the leader.
Schein (2010, p. 237) points out that, The most powerful mechanisms that founders, leaders,
managers, and parents have available for communicating what they believe in or care about is what
they systematically pay attention to. At the network level, the attention was mostly placed on

Communication was not ongoing and was mostly limited to critical incidents or compliant PPO or
Quality review visits. The culture was to stay out of trouble and stay under the radar. If a school did
have an issue that warranted to the superintendents attention the consequence was usually extreme.
The over all goal of a principal in this district was not to solve problems but keep them from
surfacing. During the study the leadership has changed and there has ben a shift in the culture. The
current superintendent sends consistent e mails requesting good news from all schools to share at CEC
meetings. She often sends e mails sharing what is going well in schools and highlights. At
superintendent meetings with principals which did not occur under the prior leadership principals are
asked to present effective practices in their schools. Her attention is focused on what schools are doing
well which encourages schools to share best practices and build the entire school district community.
The reward may be a verbal shout out , e mail or the ability to share out in a meeting in both the
network or district structure but even these small acts have a large impact on culture as Schein (2010,
p. 237) explains, It is consistency that is important, not the intensity of the attention.
What leaders pay attention to directly correlates to how leaders allocate rewards and status. In the

Multicultural Education In Education
Detailed Outline
Multiculturalism and education
I. Introduction:
a. Multicultural education relates to education and instruction designed for the cultures of several
different races in an educational system. Globalization has led to many people migrating and
spreading all over the world. As a result there is no specific area in the world that embodies one group
of people of a specific nationality. Especially in the UAE, the presence of multi nationalities calls for
an education that includes specific consideration to the variety of nationalities and cultures present in
the classroom. Therefore, Responding into all the cultures that exist in one area is the goal of
multicultural education. Educating that helps understudies comprehend and identify with social,
ethnic, and other assorted qualities, including religion, dialect, sexual orientation, age, financial,
mental, and physical contrasts. Multiculturalism is proposed to urge individuals to cooperate and to
praise contrasts, not to be divided by them. As a result, embracing diversity in a way that improves our
educational systems and not neglect it.

Economics At The University Of York
I am applying for a M.Sc. in Health Economics at the University of York in the U.K. This program of
study will provide an opportunity to compare efficient health systems in the US, UK and Australia
with the goal of identifying areas for improvement both from a cost as well as the health utilization
perspective.
Economic evaluation of health care delivery is a global necessity. The U.S spends 17% of its GDP
annually towards health care compared with 8 9% by Australia and the United Kingdom. In contrast,
when comparing government spending of cash and services for families with children, the U.S. spends
2.4% of its GDP per child under 15 years, compared to 11.8% in the U.K. and 8.9% in Australia. As a
result, families caring for injured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Laura Bojke is a leader in the economic evaluation of social care and public health interventions
for children with whom I hope to collaborate and explore the economic impact of pediatric head
injury. The health economic program at the University of York has been designed to sequentially build
a comprehensive framework of knowledge for healthcare professionals. I have been accepted into the

Romantic, Realist, And Modernist Period
Love, since the beginning of time, has had a place in every literature no matter the time period. The
world that we live in is complex and often times, love and reason do not exist interconnect, however,
literature acts as the glue in bringing these two elements together. Authors sometimes use the concept
of love as a subject for their work, rationally, and carefully using it as a tool in their writing. In this
essay, works by different authors during the Romantic, Realist, and Modernist period will be used to
exhibit some of the forms of love used in literature. Romanticism was a movement that formed out of
the need for authors to be able to freely, and completely, express their emotions and desires within
their writings. By definition, romance is a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love .
This period, or era, changed how we, as people, viewed love and self. During this time, there was an
emphasis placed on ideas that were centered on individualism, nature, and natural human emotion.
Nature, and natural beings, was seen as inspiration and invoked imagination, impulsiveness, freedom,
and excess while creating a movement that was open to the ordinary individual, even the social
outcast. Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre is a perfect example of Romanticism s influence within a work.
This work exemplifies the quest to achieve not only romantic love, but self love or growth while
experiencing natural human emotions. After being belittled for so long, the

Chronic Dating Disease
The recent discovery of Chronic Wasting Disease positively identified in an animal found on a
Wisconsin deer hunting ranch, specialists are beginning to realize the importance of the live Chronic
Wasting Disease test. This forces tests to be done randomly throughout the calendar year in every area
within miles of a previously infected area. However, this will cost a lot more money than what is put
into the funds for researching CWD as of today.
The money put into researching CWD is already very expensive, but who is paying for this funding?
Looking back from March 3, 2010, there is close to 285 cases of CWD in just the state of Illinois that
have been documented since November of 2002 (Bucknut, 2010). This leaves little to no doubt to

Most were wildlife biologists and technicians employed by DNR. The reason so many people were
introduced to the study of Chronic Wasting Disease was because of the increase is amount of regions
impacted by Chronic Wasting Disease. Once is it well established in an area, Chronic Wasting Disease
is impossible to eradicate (Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, 2013). Instead, most states
focus on limiting the spread of the disease and preventing its introduction into new areas. Missouri is
smartly proposing restricting deer breeding facilities and captive hunting preserves as a first step
toward containing the disease (Missouri Department of Natural Resources, 2014). According to the
Missouri Game Fish Department the harder questions involve managing Chronic Wasting Disease in

The Design Of Roman Aqueducts
The Design of Roman Aqueducts: Pont du Gard
Roman structures dominated the Roman values and power across the landscape of Europe. Many of
these structures, especially the aqueducts, show significant evidence of the Roman architecture and
engineering superiority. Not only that their structures are highly durable, standing monumentally over
thousands of years, the cleverness in the design of their water distribution system is an achievement to
be mesmerized, considering the 200 million gallons of water being supplied daily to the city of Rome
herself by the early 4th century AD . This essay will investigate Pont du Gard as one of the most
magnificent members of the Roman aqueducts, in regard to its design processes, along with the
technological issues in relation to the aqueduct design.
Pont du Gard functioned as an aqueduct bridge, a portion of the Nimes Aqueduct, delivering the
majority of the water supply to the city of Nemausus (Nimes, France), an important colonial city of
Rome. Its unarguably remarkable size, being over 49 m tall, makes it the biggest bridge the Roman
engineers had ever constructed, only a metre shorter than the Colosseum, and it is still standing until
today. Another important feature of this aqueduct is the maintenance of the gradient over the distance
of 50 km. The gradient over the whole course of the aqueduct is only a mere 0.034 percent and the
actual gradient on the section downstream of Pont du Gard is no more than 7 mm per 100 m. This

Theories Of Antibody Production Have Had A Long And Rich...
Essay: Clonal Selection Theory
Theories about antibody production have had a long and rich history (1). The solutions to the
questions surrounding how the immune system can target and destroy a diverse range of foreign
organisms to the body were postulated by Frank Macfarlane Burnet in the latter half of the 20th
century (2). The research covered by his peers earlier in the century helped Burnet hone his theory on
clonal selection. His theory, and the development of new applications of molecular biology, impacted
to change both the methods and the concepts of modern immunology (2, 3, 4 5). Through the clonal
selection theory, modern immunologists have acquired a more detailed understanding of the chemical
and recognition mechanisms employed by the immune system to destroy foreign invaders. This is
useful in a variety of areas in the medical field, particularly to do with the prevention, diagnosis and
treatment of diseases such as autoimmune diseases, cancers and tumours (5 11). One way this is being
accomplished is through the production of monoclonal antibodies, such as hybridomas (5). Clonal
selection has also proved to be a fundamental in the advancement of immunological understanding
and presents the foundation on which modern immunological theories are described.
In the first half of the twentieth century Paul Ehrlich, Karl Landsteiner, Fritz Breinl, Felix Haurowitz
and Linus Pauling all suggested theories to explain how the immune system produced antibodies and

Educators Struggle with Philosophy
As an educator we all struggle with philosophy and where to go from there once we decide what our
set of beliefs are. Once we put our philosophy in place, we then struggle with changing our
philosophy. I believe that philosophies can be always changing any given situation and in order for
growth as an educator we have to be aware to the situations that can change our philosophy, as well as
being true to our core beliefs. However, in order for this to happen we must understand what
philosophy is, and what it is not and how it fall in line with ideology and theories. For this assignment,
I will compare and contrast philosophy, ideology, and theory.
Philosophy is the most beliefs about what is true or real according to individual values (Gutek, 2009).
Philosophy is our beliefs that will determine what we do professionally and personally. Not having a
philosophy set in place, it will be difficult to make decisions within the classroom, creating
curriculums and evaluate progress. Although a person can set goals without having a philosophy
implemented, not having the foundation of a set philosophy (core set of beliefs) achieving the goals
can be a very difficult challenge.
Educators need a starting point to understand why we think and act the way we do in our classrooms.
Having a philosophy allows an educator to reflect on how to make classroom actions consistent with
our beliefs related to learning. However, before we list our beliefs we need to delve deeper into what
makes

Human Identity in James Joyce s The Dead Essay
Human Identity in The Dead
The short story, The Dead, is the final story in Dubliners, but it is characteristic of a number of
previous stories. In the first story, The Sisters, a young boy is confronted with the death of an
influencing figure in his life. The women in Eveline and Clay are haunted by death: Eveline, by the
memory of her mother, and Maria, by the omen of her own death. A Painful Case is the story of the
tragic death of a rejected woman. A dead political figure is the basis of Ivy Day in the Committee
Room. All these stories revolve around characters pains and experiences with death. James Joyce s

The title The Dead represents exactly that, people and their memories who have departed before the
characters in the story. The dead are a subject in Gabriel s speech at the dinner after the dance. Were
we to brood upon them always we could not find the heart to go on, he says in respect to the deceased.
The memories of Kate and Julia Morkan s brother, his horse, and Parkinson, a famous singer, are all
mentioned in various conversations at the dance. But, most of all, the title refers to Michael Furey,
Gretta s former love. The title pertains to those who most affect our lives after they are gone, The
Dead.
Gabriel Conroy s amiable character is exemplified by his capacity for affection and his high education.
Though he considers the others at the dance to be of a different grade of culture, he has a general
concern for them all. He is concious of his superior education, not wanting his speech to seem a
reflection of it. He has a great love and compassion for his wife, wishing he could offer her more than
their tiresome life. Rather than be angered by or misinterpreting Gretta s sad situation, he comforts her
and restrains from revealing his innermost feelings. Gabriel is a thoughtful, understanding husband

Class In Canterbury Tales
In the 14th century, class distinction was of great importance. The class to which one belonged
determined the clothes one was allowed to wear, the color of that clothing and even behavior. In
Geoffrey Chaucer s General Prologue and The Canterbury Tales , we can find any number of
characters with these behavior distinctions if we examine them. The Knight, for example, is described
as a worthy man of trouthe and honour, freedom and curtesie (I, 46). He is of a noble rank, and
therefore his behavior is one of good reputation (honour). Conversely, Both the descriptions of the
Reeve and the Miller in the General Prologue are quite unflattering; their verbal cutting into each
other s tales demonstrates the stereotypical churlish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hag and the Knight, newly man and wife, are lying in bed when the hag asks her husband what
she has done wrong that he walweth and he turneth to and fro (III, 1085). His response is that he acts
that way because she is so loathsome and of such low lineage; this prompts her long speech on
gentilesse. She tells her husband that gentilesse is not determined by one s birth, descended out of old
richesse (1110), but is the title given to one who is almost always virtuous and tries to do as many
good deeds as he or she can (1113 15). Examining Chaucer from a historical perspective in Chaucer
and Gentility, Nigel Saul states: Chaucer s Avoidance of economic criteria to define gentility was
wholly in accord with the contemporary outlook. Gentility was viewed at the time as a quality, and
was accordingly assessed in qualitative terms (49). In lines 1117 24, the hag then explains to the
Knight that the quality of gentilesse can come only from God. Ancestors cannot hand down their
virtuous character that made others call them gentil men (1123); they can only give their descendants
the earthly status. Chaucer here demonstrates the difference between nobility and gentilesse. He
appears to comment that there is earthly gentilesse and spiritual gentilesse gentility that is obtained by
birth and gentility that is obtained through a life of generosity and steadfast faith in God.

  • 2. Greasy Lake Literary Analysis Biographical criticism is used to identify and establish certain aspects of stories from an author s experience. Most authors have demonstrated this theory by writing from their own personal memories. From Emily Dickinson to Stephen King, countless authors have either written from their own background or put him/herself into a story. Some have even re written a terrible memory into the way they wanted that moment to turn out. John Updike and T.C. Boyle brought this theory to life in their works A P and Greasy Lake . By reading these stories, one can feel a personal connection to them because they feel so profoundly relatable. Therefore, in A P and Greasy Lake , one can grasp the actuality of the stories by putting themselves in the author s shoes and remembering their youth. A P is an excellent use of biographical criticism when connecting to an author s past. The way Updike wrote this short story proves to the reader that he can still make a connection to that younger part of himself; since the main character is about nineteen years old and the author was twenty nine when he wrote it. While reading the story, one can already connect with the familiarity of it when the main character mentions the aggravating customer, She s one of these cash register watchers, a witch about fifty with rouge on her cheekbones and no eyebrows...She d been watching cash registers forty years and probably never seen a mistake before (Updike 1). For example, say that Updike used to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Cost Of The Asset Under generally accepted accounting principles, assets both tangible and certain intangible assets that have an estimated useful life of more than one year but not infinitely should be allocated and depreciated, amortized or depleted. The cost of the asset needs to be determined as well as any possible salvage or resale value estimated. The total cost of an asset needs to not only include the purchase price of the item but also sales taxes, installation costs, freight and interest (if applicable). Costs currently or that are incurred in the future for maintenance and repairs is only an expense and does not change the value of the asset. Basically, all costs that were necessary to allow the asset to become useful should be capitalized. Depreciation, amortization and depletion are acceptable methods used under U.S. GAAP to charge the cost of an asset used in a company s day to day operations to expense over the periods benefited systematically. Depreciation refers to prorating tangible and intangible asset s cost less any salvage value evenly over the useful life of the asset. For an item to be considered an asset, it must intended for operations of the business and not for resale. Useful life should be reasonable but can vary from one asset to another from one view point to another. Estimated useful life is the time period in which an asset is expected to contribute to usefulness to a company. Not all assets will have salvage value. With the exception of land, all assets are ... • 5. The Absurd The Absurd: What then is implied by the idea of the Absurd? In spite of the view passed on by pop culture, the Absurd, in any event not what Camus had expressed, that it doesn t just allude to some dubious discernment that current life is full of mysteries, incoherencies, and scholarly disarray. Rather, as he accentuates and tries to clarify, the Absurd communicates an essential disharmony, a deplorable contrariness, in our reality. As a result, he contends that the Absurd is the result of an impact or showdown between our human yearning for request, which means, and reason in life and the clear, impassive quiet of the universe : The crazy is not in man nor on the planet, but rather in their nearness together... it is the main bond joining them. (The Myth of Sisyphus, Chapter 2, Absurd Walls) The Revolt: The buddy subject to the Absurd in Camus oeuvre is Revolt. What is revolt? Essentially characterized, it is the Sisyphean soul of insubordination even with the Absurd. All the more in fact and less figuratively, it is a soul of restriction against any apparent injustice, abuse, or outrage in the human condition. Genuine revolt is performed for the self ... • 6. A Experiment Of Mendelian Genetics Brassica Rapa Experiment of Mendelian Genetics Genetics 304 Dr. Assefa Dec 08, 2010 Introduction Gregor Johann Mendel, the father of genetics, was born in 1822. He was a priest and scientist who became famous for his work and studies on the inheritance patterns using pea plants. Gregor Mendel used pea plants known as Pisumsativum in his research where he developed two fundamental laws of genetics known today as the Law of segregation , and the Law of independent assortment (Hartl, 1992). The Law of segregation states that when an individual produces a gamete, the copies of a given gene separate in which each gamete receives only one copy of that gene. The phenotypic ratio in the F2 generation according to the Law of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most important Brassica rapa features is that many generations can be grown in a short period of time for experimental analysis and comparison(Tsunoda, 1980).Brassica rapaplants are involved in many research works recently in which they are crossed with other crops to modify their genetic fitness(Tompkins, 1990). The Chi Square ( ) test was used in this experiment to determine whether the statistical data supports or rejects the hypothesis. Materials and Methods The experiment was successfully accomplished in classroom where the Brassica Rapa were grown under suitable conditions. The experiment began by developing a watering system to the plants using the idea of capillary action. The watering system was made up of a plastic reservoir filled with a certain amount of water and a water mat placed on the top of the plastic reservoir. This design was helpful in making sure that the plants are receiving water constantly. Also, one piece of copper sulfate was addedinto the reservoir to avoid any algal growth. Two Styrofoam quads with four cells each were used for planting the seeds of Brassica Rapa. The cells were numbered from one to eight and a wick was placed in each cell in a way that allowed water access from the water mat through the capillary action. Each cell was then half way filled with soil and two fertilizers were placed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Similarities Between Black Men And American History X And... Back in the 1800 s, when calculating the population, African Americans were counted as 3/5 of a person (Antonia Kathleen, p2). One would think that in the past two hundred year s people beliefs would have changed a little bit, but the general white public are stuck into believing the common stereotypes commonly portrayed in movies. In films and television shows blacks are almost always portrayed as murderers, robbers, rapists, pretty much anything negative, like American History X, for example. Two black men are shown breaking into a white man s car. People see this, and in turn believe that all black men will try and steal their car; as stupid as it may seem, it is true, and as a result, film producers try to incorporate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... MacDonald stated in Allan Smith s essay, American mass culture continued to operate as an assimilative force, seeking to maintain social stability while gradually merging people of different backgrounds into the cultural mainstream (Smith, p2). What MacDonald is trying to say is that movie producers can t just throw the huge movie roles out to black film stars. White people might not take it very well and possibly get the impression that minorities will never amount to anything, nor be a large portion of the population. In the late 1970 s, the hit movie Roots took the country by storm serving as an icebreaker for minorities getting into the movie industry. It showed the world that a movie consisting of all black actors could still be a very popular movie. Even though it revolved around the concept of slavery, once Roots came out, minorities started to show up more and more in films. In the years to come, this trend would become more and more of a standard in America s mainstream culture. In the late 1980 s a film entitled Lethal Weapon came out. In this movie, a black man is shown having the family and being the successful one, while Mel Gibson, the white man, plays the role of the suicidal lunatic after the death of his new wife. This movie was one of the first few movies where this kind of thing was going on. Just for laughs, the two would make fun of each other and make somewhat racist assumptions about each other. • 8. The Pros And Cons Of Political Parties In a letter to Jonathan Jackson in October, 1789, John Adams wrote, There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution , yet in modern day society, this is exactly the way the government is set up. Political parties, or, similar politically minded people who work as a group to influence public policy by getting candidates elected to office, are in control of the current government. In the United states political parties compete each other to gain more political power and for the ability to put their policies into effect. As a result of events in history leading up to today, there are now two major political parties in the US. The United States is known to have a variety of political parties within it, but the Republican and Democratic parties have shown through the strongest, disagreeing with each other on most political and social issues, but being able to find some agreement on others. There are minor parties, but none so far have been able to gain the support needed to win a national election. Political parties had beginnings outside of the US, when they were first thought of in Greece. During the late 1600 ancient Greeks had a senate with two groups that represented people with different interests, called the Plebeians and the Patricians. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The latter is true for Bill Cosby. After Hannibal Burress called Cosby a rapist in a comedy act in October 2014, several women s stories came to national attention. Barbara Bowman wrote an essay, about her experience with Bill Cosby for Washington Post online on November 13th, 2014. She explains how the relationship started off harmlessly. He had a TV show and she was a 17 year old aspiring model so he gave her tips and they bonded over the industry. He was famous for his family man persona and she was just a young model. She was afraid if she said something she would be criticized for trying to deface Cosby s image, being accused that she was just lying to get attention and publicity. Her story had been published a handful of times before Burress s accusation but only now is it taking actual hold in the media. • 14. African Ferican Vs African Americans We fought for our rights to become one as an individual, to have freedom and liberty as the next race. We ve been ridiculed because of the color of our skin and disrespected by the rude derogatory names. We fought for the right to be labeled and called an African American instead of nigger, Negro, and color people, amongst other things. It was thought to be a respectable term but is now raising feuds amongst African Americans who have different tones of black and brown on their skin. An African American has totally different morals and cultural beliefs than an African who was born and raised in the countries of Africa. They have a different way of living, a different government and law, and different struggles. A shared complexion does not equal a shared culture, nor does it automatically lead to friendships, says Kofi Glover, a native of Ghana and a political science professor at the University of South Florida. Whether we like it or not, Africans and African Americans have two different and very distinct cultures. (TRACIE REDDICK) African Americans aren t always accepting to their own people when they come from a different country to America. Sometimes they make fun of them because they re not the same, or a little darker skin complexion, their accent, and also the way they dress and carry themselves. When I was talking to my grandmother, I was surprised at how many similarities and differences I heard. Some of the things I learned about was their transportation, school, and what she did for entertainment. I realized that this world is very different than the world she grew up in and we should be grateful for what we have. My grandma s name is Usha Patel and she currently is 66 years old. She was born in Umalla, India and she grew up with her brother, parents, and her grandparents. During that time period, nobody owned phones or any type of technology. If they wanted to contact people, they would have to mail letters. There were post offices almost around every corner. Unlike today, they had dirt roads for the vehicles to drive on. Their transportation was mostly by foot, but there were some people with cars. Their environment wasn t that advanced yet, but there were rickshaw s for transportation if they had to go somewhere far. My grandmother s school was in her village. By that I mean, very close, not even miles away. Everyday she would walk to school with her friends. Her school was a lot like ours today. My grandma did have very strict teachers, but she also had fun. They played sports like us and they had the same subjects as we do. She had science, history, reading, math, and they also got to take a language which was English. In history class, my grandmother learned things that were similar to ... Christopher Jackson s article entitled An Examination of Vibrato discusses the issues revolving around the use of vibrato in music from the Late Renaissance time period. The author s goals isn t to arrive at a side of the matter. However, he clearly states that he wishes to shed some new light on the views of these two opposing schools... I believe this article is meant for both musicologists and choral directors alike. The music of this time period is still being performed to this day and each performance varies due to different interpretations of a particular piece. This article can serve as a great tool for advising choral directors on specific decisions they must make within a piece regarding the use of vibrato. The article can also be directed to musicologist who have had debates about this vocal technique. Without any clear resolution, it leaves the question open ended, however, it does give insight on the two sides which helps inform musicologists who favor a particular idea about the other argument. I do not know much about performing or interpretations of Late Renaissance music. The Impact Of Spanish Rule On Puerto Ricans Today The Impact of Spanish Rule on Puerto Ricans Today What was Puerto Rico like under Spanish rule, and how important is that rule to the formation of the Puerto Rican people today? To answer these questions, we must take a look at the history of the Spanish and their colonization of the island of Puerto Rico. As we know, Puerto Rico was a colony of Spain found by Christopher Columbus on November 19, 1493, and remained a colony of Spain for the next 400 years. But the interesting fact remains that Puerto Rico was not truly settled by the Spaniards until almost fifteen years later! The second element, were the Spaniards. The Spanish now were the main people of the island, but there was only one problem now. There was no more gold to be found (which was the original reason most of the Spaniards came), and Puerto Rico had to be productive to Spain in some fashion. Facing the fact that there was no more gold, the Spaniards looked to the rich land and soil for the next way that Puerto Rico could help the Kingdom of Spain. They raised cattle, and they planted staple crops, but sugarcane was the bread and butter so to speak. The only problem was that they could only trade with Spain for a long time and Spain grew their own sugarcane, too. But let s not jump ahead of ourselves here. What was needed was a labor force to work these fields, and the Taino Indians were living in the Hinterlands. There was no way they were going to work those fields. The initial expectation is that a substantial gap exists between the voting rates of the socially advantaged because the latter are less informed about politics, feel more alienated from the political system and are not the main target of mobilization efforts by political parties One of the problems with countries with voluntary voting is that participation is low participation which can also be called low electoral turnout. one of the problems most democratic states with voluntary voting have, is the turnout of electoral processes. The angle appears to wear a light cloth that wraps around his figure, whilst the mortal Saint wears a heavy cloth, denoting a sense of stability associated with earth. The tangible quality of the cloth further enhances the realism of her transcended state. Paine rejected the claim that God inspired the Bible because human language could be misunderstood, mistranslated, or corrupted. Paine believed that the study of mathematics and science would reveal God s true Word. Finally, Viney reviews Jefferson s attitudes which were distinctly deistic and Unitarian. Jefferson believed Jesus to be a great moral teacher, but nothing more. Viney concludes by show how these deists shaped the history of America from their time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Placed on Janiculum Hill, the fountain has an incredible view of the entire city. The large marble fountain was a renovation of an existing fountain called the Ancient Acqua Traiana, built by Emperor Trajan in 109 CE (Hamblin), gaining further inspiration from the Fontana dell Acqua Felice. It was installed in 1612 and designers included Giovanni Fontana who planned the fountain itself, and Carlo Fontana who created the semicircular pond that was added later on (Heilmann, 2). Smith states that hegemony, is the ability of the state and the ruling class to regulate beliefs within a society. Hegemonic beliefs are dominant cultural motifs which reinforce inequality and which short circuit attempts at critical thinking (Smith, 36). The fountain was a way to enforce and allude to the creeds of the Pope and the Catholic Church. In this sense, it is obvious that works of art are a large part of culture and cultural identification. The fountain became a part of history, not only because it is still standing, but also because of the cultural significance seen in the various symbols, material and stories behind the different parts of the fountain. While culture is an ambiguous and debatable term, it is commonly understood and agreed that arts developed by societies define a large part of a culture. There are several socio cultural functions of art, including being a record of history, contributing to the transmission or propaganda of ideology or beliefs, and allowing for further cultural change. Works of art and artifacts are transcendent in nature of theories and ideology, and therefore, cannot be fully analyzed objectively through the theories used. These trails used several tools for screening to identify Intimate partner violence. Specifically, they were interested in examining the rates of intimate partner violence disclosure among adult women when computer 18 assisted, self assisted, and face to face interview screening were used to disclose intimate partner violence. There were no significant differences in the outcomes of the study when compared to studying the women who were screened face to face than those that used self administered screenings. The studies did show however, that studies which used a computer assisted screening tool had greater odds of disclosure more than the face to face interviews. Given the sensitivities of disclosing intimate partner violence, this data suggests methods by which screening women may be advantageous. The world that we live in is complex and often times, love and reason do not exist interconnect, however, literature acts as the glue in bringing these two elements together. Authors sometimes use the concept of love as a subject for their work, rationally, and carefully using it as a tool in their writing. In this essay, works by different authors during the Romantic, Realist, and Modernist period will be used to exhibit some of the forms of love used in literature. Romanticism was a movement that formed out of the need for authors to be able to freely, and completely, express their emotions and desires within their writings. By definition, romance is a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love . This period, or era, changed how we, as people, viewed love and self. During this time, there was an emphasis placed on ideas that were centered on individualism, nature, and natural human emotion. Nature, and natural beings, was seen as inspiration and invoked imagination, impulsiveness, freedom, and excess while creating a movement that was open to the ordinary individual, even the social outcast. Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre is a perfect example of Romanticism s influence within a work. This work exemplifies the quest to achieve not only romantic love, but self love or growth while experiencing natural human emotions. After being belittled for so long, the ... • 45. The Design Of Roman Aqueducts The Design of Roman Aqueducts: Pont du Gard Roman structures dominated the Roman values and power across the landscape of Europe. Many of these structures, especially the aqueducts, show significant evidence of the Roman architecture and engineering superiority. Not only that their structures are highly durable, standing monumentally over thousands of years, the cleverness in the design of their water distribution system is an achievement to be mesmerized, considering the 200 million gallons of water being supplied daily to the city of Rome herself by the early 4th century AD . This essay will investigate Pont du Gard as one of the most magnificent members of the Roman aqueducts, in regard to its design processes, along with the technological issues in relation to the aqueduct design. Pont du Gard functioned as an aqueduct bridge, a portion of the Nimes Aqueduct, delivering the majority of the water supply to the city of Nemausus (Nimes, France), an important colonial city of Rome. Its unarguably remarkable size, being over 49 m tall, makes it the biggest bridge the Roman engineers had ever constructed, only a metre shorter than the Colosseum, and it is still standing until today. Another important feature of this aqueduct is the maintenance of the gradient over the distance of 50 km. The gradient over the whole course of the aqueduct is only a mere 0.034 percent and the actual gradient on the section downstream of Pont du Gard is no more than 7 mm per 100 m. This ... • 46. Theories Of Antibody Production Have Had A Long And Rich... Essay: Clonal Selection Theory Theories about antibody production have had a long and rich history (1). The solutions to the questions surrounding how the immune system can target and destroy a diverse range of foreign organisms to the body were postulated by Frank Macfarlane Burnet in the latter half of the 20th century (2). The research covered by his peers earlier in the century helped Burnet hone his theory on clonal selection. His theory, and the development of new applications of molecular biology, impacted to change both the methods and the concepts of modern immunology (2, 3, 4 5). Through the clonal selection theory, modern immunologists have acquired a more detailed understanding of the chemical and recognition mechanisms employed by the immune system to destroy foreign invaders. This is useful in a variety of areas in the medical field, particularly to do with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as autoimmune diseases, cancers and tumours (5 11). One way this is being accomplished is through the production of monoclonal antibodies, such as hybridomas (5). Clonal selection has also proved to be a fundamental in the advancement of immunological understanding and presents the foundation on which modern immunological theories are described. In the first half of the twentieth century Paul Ehrlich, Karl Landsteiner, Fritz Breinl, Felix Haurowitz and Linus Pauling all suggested theories to explain how the immune system produced antibodies and why ... I believe that philosophies can be always changing any given situation and in order for growth as an educator we have to be aware to the situations that can change our philosophy, as well as being true to our core beliefs. However, in order for this to happen we must understand what philosophy is, and what it is not and how it fall in line with ideology and theories. For this assignment, I will compare and contrast philosophy, ideology, and theory. Philosophy is the most beliefs about what is true or real according to individual values (Gutek, 2009). Philosophy is our beliefs that will determine what we do professionally and personally. Not having a philosophy set in place, it will be difficult to make decisions within the classroom, creating curriculums and evaluate progress. Although a person can set goals without having a philosophy implemented, not having the foundation of a set philosophy (core set of beliefs) achieving the goals can be a very difficult challenge. Educators need a starting point to understand why we think and act the way we do in our classrooms. Having a philosophy allows an educator to reflect on how to make classroom actions consistent with our beliefs related to learning. The class to which one belonged determined the clothes one was allowed to wear, the color of that clothing and even behavior. In Geoffrey Chaucer s General Prologue and The Canterbury Tales , we can find any number of characters with these behavior distinctions if we examine them. The Knight, for example, is described as a worthy man of trouthe and honour, freedom and curtesie (I, 46). He is of a noble rank, and therefore his behavior is one of good reputation (honour). His response is that he acts that way because she is so loathsome and of such low lineage; this prompts her long speech on gentilesse. She tells her husband that gentilesse is not determined by one s birth, descended out of old richesse (1110), but is the title given to one who is almost always virtuous and tries to do as many good deeds as he or she can (1113 15). Examining Chaucer from a historical perspective in Chaucer and Gentility, Nigel Saul states: Chaucer s Avoidance of economic criteria to define gentility was wholly in accord with the contemporary outlook. Gentility was viewed at the time as a quality, and was accordingly assessed in qualitative terms (49). In lines 1117 24, the hag then explains to the Knight that the quality of gentilesse can come only from God. Ancestors cannot hand down their virtuous character that made others call them gentil men (1123); they can only give their descendants the earthly status. Chaucer here demonstrates the difference between nobility and gentilesse. He appears to comment that there is earthly gentilesse and spiritual gentilesse gentility that is obtained by birth and gentility that is obtained through a life of generosity and steadfast faith in God.
