Planning of Teaching Science and
Technology
PLANNING
Importance of Planning
1. The planning of teaching is the key to
effective teaching. Before planning the
teacher has to consider the following things-
2. Teacher’s own content knowledge, capacities,
mastery on teaching, teaching style.
3. Students intellectual level, capacity,
interests and aptitude.
4. Objectives of History teaching
5. Objectives of classroom teaching
6. Curriculum
7. Concepts, core elements, values.
8. Teaching method
9. Available resources
10. Available time
YEAR PLAN
• Year plan is the outline of the teaching of a
subject during the entire academic year.
• The year plan is the plan of teaching which is
done in the beginning of academic year after
considering objective of teaching.
• For preparing year plan period available for
teaching, the precise content for teaching ,Why
aspect i.e objectives of teaching of teaching-
Learning and weight ages to each content.
Considerations and Procedures of a
Year Plan
• It is the planning done for the whole year.
• It ensures that teacher comes to know the plan
for whole year.
• It gives idea of time required for teaching and
evaluation.
• It gives idea for the planning of co-curricular
activities.
• Teaching done with proper speed.
Considerations and Procedures
of a Year Plan contd..
• Time management is ensured.
• Teaching objectives are clarified in
beginning and teaching done
accordingly.
• Teacher can bring cohesiveness in
teaching, if teaching to more than 1
division at a time.
Importance of Year Plan
1. Teacher understand the scope of the subject
curriculum at the beginning of the academic
year.
2. Teaching –Learning completes on time.
3. It give idea about period available for
curricular and co-curricular activities.
4. Sufficient time is available for initial
preparation for teaching.
5. Teaching can be completed with proper speed.
6. It clarifies the objectives of T-L therefore, it
helps in emphasizing the units.
7. Teacher can bring similarities in teaching if
they are teaching to two or more division.
8. There is time for revision and evaluation.
ASPECTS OF THE
YEAR PLAN
1.Formation of syllabus units
2. Reorganization of units.
3.Time available for teaching.
4.Unitwise distribution of available
periods.
5.Periods for Evaluation.

UNIT PLAN
Concept of unit is
i) It should be homogeneous.
ii) There should be systematic
interweaving of various educational
activities ,learning experiences,
teaching aids and teaching content.
iii) The teaching of a unit should bring
desirable changes in pupils.
MEANING OF UNIT PLANNING
‘A unit plan is a plan for teaching which is
done after having considered various
factor such as ascertaining sub –units of
units after their in-depth study,
ascertaining the objectives and their
specifications of teaching points,
selecting proper learning experiences
,arranging for proper educational aids
and deciding about relevant evaluation
procedures for verifying changes in pupil-
behaviour ’ .
Considerations and
Procedures of a Unit Plan
“ A unit is a group of related concepts
from which a given set of
instructional and educational
experiences is desired.’’
-
Hoover
Thus a unit plan is developed after considering
various things as follows:
1.What is the objective of T-L of the unit?
2.Which Learning experiences are necessary for
achieving those objectives?
3.What activities will the teacher and the
learner undertake?
4.Which teaching aids will be required?
5.What should be the nature of the evaluation
procedure for verifying behavioral changes in
nature ?
