Analysis Of Laura Mulvey s Film, Visual Pleasure And...
Katlyn Riggins
WGST 343: 500
Fall 2015
Topic Number 4
Women in film are often portrayed in a manner deemed pleasurable to the male viewer. Laura Mulvey
takes this concept and dissects it within her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. Mulvey
references the term male gaze, wom[en] displayed as sexual object[s] is the leitmotif of erotic
spectacle: from pin ups to strip tease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, she holds the look, and plays
to and signifies male desire (Mulvey 40). Because of this interpretation it is relevant to examine
different forms of media, such as films, to establish if the male gaze is present. Furthermore, it is
appropriate to analyze films directed by women to identify the male gaze, due to their unique
interpretation of female character s visual representation. In the essay that follows, it will consider
Girlfight and Dance, Girl, Dance to analyze how two separate female filmmakers, Karyn Kusama and
Dorothy Arzner respectfully, challenge the theory of the male gaze, along with comparing and
contrasting the methods in which such challenges were made, and finally it will address how any
filmmaker may object the male gaze.
Within the film Girlfight, director Karyn Kusama presents the audience with a strong female
protagonist. Actor Michelle Rodriguez debuts her career portraying the lead role of Diana and gives
the audience a unique interpretation of the character. We first see the heroine, through a crowd of
teenagers walking

A Brief Note On The And The Affordable Care Act
Mike Mosko English 2 3 December 2014 Obamacare vs. The Affordable Care Act: The role of news
framing in health care reform. It has officially been over a year since the Affordable Care Act (ACA),
also known as Obamacare, took the nation by storm. Along with its inception came a deeming quality
as one of the most ambitious, as well as provocative, instances of health care reform the United States
had ever seen. The basic premise of the law is an attempt to ensure that affordable health care is made
available for all American public. This is accomplished by providing tax credits on health insurance
plans offered by the government, such as Medicaid, to those who remain at a certain Federal Poverty
Level and could previously not effort it. The idea is that these discounts would suddenly allow said
people to have a better chance at doing so. In addition, the law protects patients with preexisting
medical conditions or who suddenly fall ill, forbidding insurance companies from dropping them. It
also allows young adults to stay on their parent s plans until the age of 26 and lowers rates for seniors.
Those opposed to the law have retaliated, citing increased taxes, allocation of Federal and State
funding, mandatory health coverage and, new, unnecessary obligations that insurance companies must
follow. It is important to remember that ACA s background, as well as its general support, is
Democratic while, the majority of those who oppose it are Republican. The clashing views of

The Return Of Martin Guerre Essay
Introduction The Tale of Martin Guerre has been retold throughout history in the forms of; a play,
movie and a book. What makes this story so interesting is due to the fact that it stems from a real life
peasant court case which occurred in the 16th century. In the case, a man by the name of Arnaud du
Tilh takes the identity of a middle class family man by the name of Martin Guerre. He manages to take
on the persona of Martin Guerre for a period of three years where he manages to both; increase the
Guerre family estate, and father a child with Martin s wife, Bertrande de Rols. What helped Arnaud
steal Martin s identity was due to the fact that the real Martin Guerre had left his wife and family eight
years prior to Arnaud arriving in the French village of Aritigat. Twentieth Century historians Natalie
Zemon Davis and Robert Finlay have attempted to provide historical reasoning for why the case of
Martin Guerre became so popular. As this essay will show; both historians were constrained to the
same archival evidence; however they used different methods of interpretation to come up ... Show

Her writing of the book postdates the movie of Martin Guerre, Le Retour de Martin Guerre, which
Davis herself was involved in with the screenplay . Davis was not thrilled about the interpretation of
the movie because it strayed from the actual events of the court case . As a result, Davis wrote The
Return of Martin Guerre using her own interpretations based on the archival evidence she collected.
Davis ultimate goal was to ensure that her book was easily accessible to all audiences and therefore,
she catered to different groups of people through her choice of detail, literary voice, and metaphor as
by topical analysis . By writing about how people lived during the 16th century, French society,
readers are more understanding of why people did what they did; specifically in regards to the Martin

Social And Negative Effects Of Interracial Marriage
America socially and culturally has come a long way with desegregation, as one in six U.S.
newlyweds (17%) were married to a person of a different race or ethnicity in 2015, a more than
fivefold increase from 3% in 1967 (Kristen Bialik n.p.). The reason behind this is because about 50
years ago, there were many laws put in place that bans interracial marriage. However, the situation
changed when a when a white man and a black woman, the Lovings, violated Virginia s Racial
Integrity Act of 1924, which prohibited interracial marriage. The Lovings were sentenced to a year in
prison but they brought their case before the Supreme Court and their love won. In 1967, the justices
ruled in their favor in Loving vs. Virginia, thereby invalidating all race based restrictions on interracial
marriage in the United States (Story Hinckley n.p.). With just one family resisting the laws, it changed
the perspective of the whole world as they proved that it was wrong to deny the freedom of marrying
whoever you wanted. Although people are slowly trying to become more accepting of different views
towards mixed marriage, families dealing with this situation are experiencing negative and positive
reactions from society. Children, in particular, show the most concern regarding the impact interracial
marriage has on their social and physiological issues.
Parents play a crucial role in a child s development as they provide the first experience in life that
influences the future. The atmosphere of

A Novel Tree Based Method for Data Hiding and Authentication in Medical Images Sreejith.R
Dr.S.Senthil Research Scholer Associate Professor Reva University Reva University Bangalore
Bangalore. r_sreejith@hotmail.com senthil.s@reva.edu.in Abstract Telemedicine focus on use of
information and communication technologies in the situation when health care center and the patient
are remotely located. That means that health care services are provided remotely over the distance.
There are several telemedicine services which include transmission of information about patient s
health through text, sound, images and other data forms for the diagnosis treatment, prevention and
follow up of the patient s health status. The role of telemedicine services contributes a lot in health
improvement and its application should be considered favorably valuable. However, it is so much
necessary to be aware that the utilization of different telemedicine solutions includes processing of
patient s data and transferover open network. Thus, this issue should be considered from the
perspective of data protection. Medical images which are stored in health information systems, cloud

These programs represent a low risk investment in human capital development with verified impact.
These methods are highly cost effective and have significant economies of scale and can comfortably
be supported by developing economies. Vaccination is one of the few preventive public health
measures that directly save economy money. In developing economies the cost per year of
immunizing children against infectious diseases is equivalent to the cost of a single day of health care
in the United States of America. Also, lack of vaccination result in immense economic costs, as
responding to outbreak is highly costly affair for the health department. For instance, an outbreak in
2008 that occurred in San Diego resulted in a total cost of 176,980 dollars incurred by the health
department. Another, outbreak in the same year involving several hospitals attracted a cost of 800,000
dollars to contain the outbreak (Kutty et al., 2013). Not vaccinating children incurs parents as well as

DOST PTRI turned difficult to remove stains from these husks into a textile dye called coconut pink.
They found out that young coconut husk extract imparts red to maroon color on silk, piña seda and
piña while it produces an old rose color on cotton. They also established colorfastness, laundering and
light ratings of the dyed materials and found these to be satisfactory for all these types. Coconut husks
potential to impart red color comes as a necessary indulgence for textile manufacturers who use in
great quantities the non colorfast red dye from sibukao (Caesalpinnia sappan). The textile institute s
research study revealed that young coconut husks sourced from different locations produce varying
shades of red. This required thus hue and color tint matching capabilities and adjustments in the
dyeing parameters. In addition, DOST PTRI found that coconuts from high elevations yield almost no
color compared with coconuts from coastals and low lying areas. This new use for young coconut
husks holds promise for additional income for farmers. Likewise, the new technique s requirement for
compulsory chopping of husks before extraction facilitates rapid decomposition. This reduces the risk
of clogging of waterways and drainage systems along coconut processing

Three Ways Police and Probation Officers can Reduce Gang...
Police and probation officers use two words to describe their jobs, to protect and to serve. Not only do
they put their lives in danger every day, but also help the community in more ways than one. Some
ways that police and probation officers can help lower gang violence is by implementing laws more
accordingly, establishing a relationship with troubled youth, and creating programs that benefit their
well being. The root of gang violence all begins at home and then spreads. A troubled teen may be
lacking the love and attention from their parent whether it is because they work too much, or simply
do not care. Then, the teen will result attending school and will begin to find that comfort in places
that they can feel stability. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If parents cannot control their children then police officers will need to teach teens why breaking the
law does not have a lovely consequence. Probation officers tend to deal with the softer side of
reducing gang violence. Once a teen is arrested for having or selling drugs then they are assigned a
probation officer that will follow up on their progress and insure they are staying out of trouble. They
will do routine visits to their home, place of work, or school. Especially for teens that are involved in
gang violence this could be an important factor to getting them to release their old ways and straighten
out. If a teen is part of a gang chances are they will be willing to take responsibility when they are
caught with drugs. The purpose of the probation officer will be educating them on why that life style
could not benefit their well being in any way. Instead, they will try to suggest distancing themselves
from those so called friends that only indulge bad behaviors. A probation officer can even suggest to
the court once they report back to the judge that the teen may need to be relocated whether it be to
another school or with another family member. This will allow positive reinforcements to surround
them.
` We establish that building a good relationship with these teens is essential. According to David
Forbes, he interviewed a probation officer named Sharon who stated in order to be a good probation

And Age Maturity In The Cockatoucan, Or Great-Aunt...
[If] you make me the Princess s governess, I ll see what I can do... (177) the little girl asks the
hopeless King. In the text The Cockatoucan, or Great Aunt Willoughby by E. Nesbit compiled in Neil
Gaiman s Unnatural Creatures, draws attention to gender and age inequality. In the story, the
protagonist demonstrates her maturity throughout her journey, which enables her to salvage the
kingdom from the unnatural creature. I will argue that Nesbit imposes on the themes of Voyage and
Return and Coming of Age to show how a young girl can mature and gain wisdom through conflicts
between human vs. unnatural in a double standard society.

then she crept softly, pussily, mousily to the garden, where the Cockatoucan s cage, until, something
came creeping, creeping, pussily, mousily out of the Palace...and it was the Princess herself (178). To

Evian Case Study

Possible Potential
Due to sudden hit of recession in the year 2009, Evian had to lose most of its market share. The status
which was built by Evian for water bottles was huge and tremendous. The limited edition bottles made
by Evian were specially designed by Jean Pual Gaultier and Haute Couture, which are amongst the
renowned designers in France. From this we could understand that Evian had a great marketing
potential but it lacked in some of its marketing strategies.
The possible potential of Evian s viral marketing can be explained as below:

Social Media Marketing
1. Facebook: It is one of the most visited website amongst all social media modes of communications.
Every third person is on facebook, which makes in itself a huge place for marketing any new product
or campaign. According to our study Evian should opt for unique membership on facebook as early as
possible. Thus this will give them a quality members and the brand would be able to maintain its
status symbol. The brand should not be embarrassed in sharing a water bottle commercial online. For
facebook the brand should recommend some famous personalities from sports to Hollywood to post
their selfies with the brand on facebook. Since the people get easily related with such personalities it
will help the brand to rise at a faster rate.
2. Twitter: In comparison with Facebook, twitter is not popularly used by the people. Since the Twitter
account of Evian was not regularly updated it lost its majority of followers. We think that besides
Facebook, the twitter account should be regularly updated with tweets. The recent drive held by Evian
Babies and young people was huge hit online. The ad received numerous tweets online, thus keeping
itself updated on twitter helped Evian build its marketing

The Pros And Cons Of The Good Friday Agreement
The Good Friday Agreement says that they will let the majority vote then that will determine if
Northern Ireland unites with Ireland. This agreement allows Northern Ireland to be a part of the
United Kingdom for as long as the majority desires to be. (Bollens, page 57). Although there was
always a majority of Protestants in Northern Ireland, there has been a shift to more Catholics now.
Professor Bollens, projects that within the next 10 to 15 years the shift from Protestants to Catholics is
going to be so distinguished that there will probably be a vote for Northern Ireland to join Ireland and
that it will join (lec., Feb 6th). Since the younger generations are identifying with the Catholics more,
he projects that it will take 10 to 15 years because they need to wait until there are a significant
amount of people at or above the voting age in order to have a successful outcome. If that were to

The Cafe Of The Store
The café in the center of the store is actually a little Starbucks coffee shop, but due to the food that
they service it is more of a café than anything else. The food is not really a wide selection, but it is
enough that anyone is, required to play host, and in which all feel at home and comfortable.
(Oldenburg, page 22) With the decent food and Starbucks, anyone that has an order does not need to
remain at the tables to finish it. You can still be able to browse the shelves and read anything that you
desire. Which is why many families come to the store with their children in tow.
Most people can arrive at this location with no worries and may come and go whenever they please,
with no worries about arriving too late. For the bookstore has very long hours of operation, but the
store is not accessible in its off hours as Oldenburg states on page 32. Yet B N has a sort of an

3. How does cystic fibrosis cause this acid base imbalance?
The buildup of mucus does not allow her to get the right amount of air with each breath, and that

Summary Of The Reclaiming The American Dream Report
In the Reclaiming the American Dream report (AACC, 2012), seven recommendations were suggested
to meet the needs of the students, as well as having a strong community college system. Hence, these
recommendation address redesigning students educational experiences, reinventing institutional roles,
and resetting the system to create incentives for students and institutional triumphs.
Recommendation One A section of recommendation one is to increase completion rates of students
earning community college credentials (certificates and associate degrees) by fifty percent by 2020.
(AACC, 2012 p. 26). Although recommendation one is certainly obtainable, completing the goal by
2020 is doubtful. As an administrator, in order to see a goal this large come to manifestation, everyone
has to get on the bus, and asking the same question who instead of what then, and only then will a goal
this large will manifest ( Collins, 2001). However, utilizing particular strategies to accomplish the goal
will help toward achieving the goal. In doing that, students would be served more effectively and
more efficiently, because staff and faculty would be more intentional regarding the service rendered.
Affective academic advising is an essential and sure way to promote students retention (O Banion,
1997). In addition, using strategies to construct coherent, structured pathways to complete degrees,

To become a Buddhist monk which is known as a Bhikkhu, there is a long process of disciplinary
training and education ceremony s. The Bhikkhu is the main buddhist rite of passage because it
involves immersing yourself into the buddhist lifestyle, and becoming totally devoted to the buddhist
ways. To become a Bhikkhu, you must follow the Tripitaka, which is described in the chapter below.
You must devote your life to buddhism, and observe the 227 ways of immersing yourself into the
buddhist culture. In most Buddhist countries, marriages are arranged by the parents of the couple. This
is because parents are thought to know best since they have had more experience of life. It is also
because marriages join families, and so the decision should

How Is Cyrus Relevant Today
Cyrus II, commonly referred to as Cyrus The Great, was the king of Persia. Although the exact birth of
Cyrus is unknown to us, historians have been able to narrow it down to some here between 600 and
580 BCE . Cyrus is renowned for being one of the greatest historical conquerors who in his lifetime
conquered everywhere from Lydia and Babylonia to the Greek cities of Asia Minor . However in
many historical ancient texts, such as the works of Xenophanes and a number of sacred Jewish texts,
Cyrus is often described as a liberator as apposed to a conqueror . Cyrus was very tolerant ruler and
accepting of all local religious faiths, because of this he expected his subjects to do the same. Cyrus
the Great has remained throughout history as one of the most tolerant and politically influential
leaders from ancient civilisation, after establishing the first human rights charter containing values still
relevant today.
Unfortunately very little is known of Cyrus s life before he came into power as most sources are lost
or damaged. According to Herodotus, Cyrus s grandfather Astyages, Median king, was told in a dream
that his grandson would one day attempt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cyrus was the son of Median king Cambyses, after his father s death in 559 BCE Cyrus became king
of Ashan . However, at this time Cyrus was not yet an independent ruler, like all of his predecessors
Cyrus had to rule under the power of Median overlordship. In 553 BCE Cyrus rallied together the
Persian people to revolt against Astyages and their Median overlords . Finally after several years in
battle Cyrus conquered the Median capitol of Ecbatana in 549 BCE, effectively gaining control of the
Median Empire and was crowned as the King of Persia in 546 BCE . Cyrus the Great established the
Persian Achaemendid Empire by uniting the Medes and the Persians under one great

Media In Mass Media
Introduction
In more recent years, the mass media has begun to play a huge part in how the general public s view
on the world and how they receive their news. When mass media was first introduced, it shared news
alongside the main conveyer print, but with the growth of social media and the web, news has taken a
technological turn. When it comes to sharing any form of news, it has become more common for
people to check the internet using their phones. Mass media platforms like radio, television and the
internet have the advantage of fast and constant updates and the ability to share photos and videos at
the click of a button. In the spreading the news of terrorist attacks, the mass media used these outlets
in their best interest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concert was broadcasted live across television, radio and social media. It proved to those trying
to merge fear into everyday life that it was not going to work. The week before, the mass media was
filled with footage from the bombing, where at the time we saw the fear in people, through those that
were at the arena and those that were turning to social media for aid to find those still missing but
those that had attended the concert and survived were given free tickets to the One Love Manchester
concert and this showed that the attack did not scare them out of entering an arena again.
Reporting on terrorism
Framing is the term used by the researchers to refer to how an event in a particular news story is
portrayed... The most common frames used by the media from centre are associating Islam/Muslim
with terrorism . (Sultan, 2016). More often than not when there is a terrorist attack, those who carry
out the crime do not survive. When a large attack is carried out like a bombing or a shooting, it is
instantly labelled as a terrorist attack. This is due to framing portrayal from the media because they
know the words terrorism or terrorist are alarming words to the public. Even more attracting are those
words linked with the words Muslim or Islam . The Oxford English Dictionary defines terrorism as

Here 299 images are considered for the training and 110 are considered for the testing. Thus after
feature extraction, applying KNN algorithm the overall accuracy was found around 70%, by
considering only geometrical features about 14 features .
Thus, the future work involves considering textures feature also into consideration along with the

Letting Go
Letting go. It is difficult for us in so many ways and on so many levels. Yet life calls upon us to do it,
over and over again. Letting go is part of our growth process. We cannot move on to the new while
continuing to cling to the old. There come times, in the context of love and romance, when we must
learn to let go. For some of us, as described in the song, we must let go of a past romantic relationship.
Maybe the relationship was not meant to be: perhaps it was hurtful to us, or perhaps it was hindering
the personal or spiritual growth of one or both partners. In this case, even when there may still be
feelings of passion, or attraction, or just the comfort of the familiar, we must be strong in letting go of
something that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often adult children who have lost a parent before working through interpersonal issues, or before
having an opportunity to say goodbye, have difficulty letting go of unresolved issues or guilt.
Sometimes we may need to go for some counseling or do a ritual (some act with personal meaning) to
allow us to release these emotions. Many of us have trouble letting go of old ways of viewing people
who have been part of our lives for an extended period of time. They may be changing, and yet we do
not let go of viewing them in the same way, and/or we try to discourage that change. We refuse to let
go of the labeling, categorizing, and pre set expectations we have of those we know, and of ourselves.
This seems particularly true of many parents of teenage or young adult children. Many parents have a
difficult time letting go of them as children, and allowing them to grow up. It is hard for parents to
make that transition from treating their children as kids, to treating them as adults and more like
friends. Many of these same parents have trouble letting go of viewing themselves, primarily, in the
role of parent. For instance, some mothers are afraid to let their kids become grownups, because they
are afraid to let go of their own identity as mother. They have become so identified with that one role,
that they no longer are sure who they are, outside of that role. When we refuse to let go of old ways of
identifying and viewing ourselves and others,

C. S. Lewis Mere Christianity Summary
C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity is the written format of his radio talks from WWII. These talks were
given to the British public on what Christianity is and what Christians believed. These talks would of
happened during a time when as tons of the citizens of not only Britain but countries across Europe
were questioning morality and faith in the wake of the horrors they were experiencing through the
war. This book was published long after the war and contains what Lewis said in his talks as well as
his commentary on what else he wish he could of added to his talks and relevant criticisms he got on
his talks from the public. In order to change the dialogue of radio talks into a book format he divides
this book into four books each with at least five, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Lewis his viewpoint of reasons place in religion is in determining whether or not to
accept the religion in question. He doesn t agree with the leap of faith concept to sell someone and
convince them to follow a religion. Instead he argues that faith only comes into play after one has
already accepted and become a part of the religion. Faith helps someone carry out the religion s
practices whereas reason leads one to believing in the religion in the first place. His views on reason
seem to be similar to that of W.K. Clifford since Lewis writes that he is not asking anyone to accept
Christianity if his best reasoning... is against it (pg 140). This shows that Lewis highly values reason
and doesn t want people to just believe something without having proved it to themselves first. W.K.
Clifford is a bit more extreme in his belief that it is not okay to just believe without proof or reason as
Clifford sees doing this as not just incorrect but ethically wrong. This relates to our class discussion on
the connections between faith and reason and what roles each play in people s

The Theory of Planned Behavior
The Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA)
TRA posits that individual behaviour is driven by behavioural intentions where behavioural intentions
are a function of an individual s attitude toward the behaviour and subjective norms surrounding the
performance of the behaviour. Attitude toward the behaviour is defined as the individual s positive or
negative feelings about performing a behaviour. It is determined through an assessment of one s
beliefs regarding the consequences arising from a behaviour and an evaluation of the desirability of
these consequences. Formally, overall attitude can be assessed as the sum of the individual
consequence x desirability assessments for all expected consequences of the behaviour. Subjective
norm is defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subjective Norms (about the behaviour)
Subjective norms are a persons own estimate of the social pressure to perform the target behaviour.
Subjective norms are assumed to have two components which work in interaction: beliefs about how
other people, who may be in some way important to the person, would like them to behave (normative
beliefs). Perceived behavioural control
Perceived behavioural control is the extent to which a person feels able to enact the behaviour. It has
two aspects: how much a person has control over the behavior and how confident a person feels about
being able to perform or not perform the behaviour. It is determined by control beliefs about the power
of both situational and internal factors to inhibit or facilitate the performing of the behaviour.
Direct measures and indirect (belief based) measures
With the exception of behaviour, the variables in the TPB model are psychological (internal)
constructs. Each predictor variable may be measured directly e.g. by asking respondents about specific
behavioural beliefs and outcome evaluations.
Direct and indirect measurement approaches make different assumptions about the underlying
cognitive structures and neither approach is perfect.
When different methods are tapping the same construct, scores are expected to be positively
correlated, so it is recommended that both be included in TPB

The Effects Of Domestic Violence On Children Essay
Domestic violence is a crime of either passion or violence which should never be tolerated by
anybody if at all the society is to be made safe enough for people to live in. Domestic violence can be
defined as any threatening, abusive, or violent behavior in the home either between adult children and
other adult family members (Gibbons, 2011). It can also be used by one intimate partner to establish
power and control over the other partner through fear and intimidation. Domestic violence can happen
anywhere to anyone of any race, religion, culture, or economic status. It can occur in any relationship,
including heterosexual, gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender and also within extended families
(Women s Aid 2010). It affects both partners, their children, other family members, friends, and
colleagues. Although emotional abuse in a relationship can happen equally regardless of gender, the
more threatening and dangerous forms of domestic violence are usually committed by a man against a
woman (Patriarchal Roots, n.d). Often the aggressor in a violent relationship feels a high level of
ownership over the other partner and the children which too often results in injury or death if this
person tries to end the relationship or report the violence. Unfortunately, children are not left out and
many times they fall victims of abuse or sexual assault (Sexual violence against women, n.d). This can
be very traumatizing to the children and they might grow up in fear of being abusers

National Security Requires a Clear Acknowledgement of the...
Introduction
To succeed, we must face the world as it is (Obama, 2010, p.1). Globalization has resulted in
interconnecting the world in such a manner that was unimaginable even two decades ago. No longer
can any state, nation, or people expect to remain an island. Indeed, as we are interconnected, so too are
our fates. If the United States is to ensure security and prosperity for her citizens now and for future
generations, we must clearly acknowledge that part we play in the continuum of shifting word powers
and peace. We must recognize that although we are the world s leading power, we are not the sole
possessor and arbiter of influence.
The nuclear arms race of the Cold War years has given way to a race for building alliances in this age
of globalization. If we are to be successful in our pursuit of a more peaceful and sustainable world
order, we must be cognizant of the opportunities to help fledgeling democracies take root. As well, we
must be aware of the more nefarious motives of nations for whom state intervention is merely a thin
veil for imperialistic ambitions. With this, we consider the recent events in Ukraine and its impact on
our national security.
Brief History of Ukraine
An independent country embroiled in civil war, Ukraine fell prey to attack from Soviet forces in 1921.
The acquisition of the eastern two thirds of the state by Russia was considered crucial...to the
formation of the Soviet Union (Conant, 2014). Over the next two decades,

Role Of Gods In The Odyssey
The Odyssey details Odysseus arduous return to his homeland. Ten years have passed since the end of
the Trojan war and Odysseus, the most cursed man alive , has been missing and presumed dead by
many. (10.79). Throughout the novel, gods play a significant role in the fate of Odysseus and other
characters. The extent of the gods role though is not unqualified, contrary to Telemachus suggestion
that, Zeus is to blame./He deals to each and every/ laborer on this earth whatever doom he pleases
(1.401 403). While Zeus does have this power, his description of how humans meet their fate is more
accurately depicted throughout the novel. As he aptly points out, from us alone, the say, come all their
miseries, yes,/ but they themselves, with their own reckless ways,/ compound their pain beyond their
proper share (1.38 52). While the gods do doom certain mortals, many of these mortals exacerbate
their ill fate by making rash decisions and ignoring the gods warnings. The gods are also not always
disrupting mortals lives; they often aid mortals in need. In fact, mortals who effectively court the favor
of the gods often benefit greatly. While the gods powers are unquestionable, no one god s power is
insurmountable. Gods can be outsmarted and their wrath escaped. The Odyssey, in congruence with
Zeus statement, ultimately, portrays human freedom as existent, but limited.
While mortals do not unjustly complain about their fates, they fail to acknowledge that they are also
responsible for their ill fate, as mortals themselves, possess a sizable degree of control. There is little
doubt that Odysseus and his crew are unlucky, but had it not been for their brash decisions they would
have reached Ithaca much sooner. After Odysseus cunningly escapes the Cyclops, Polyphemos, his
pride gets the best of him, as taunts the Polyphemos proclaiming, if any man on the face of the earth
should ask you/ who blinded you, shamed you so say Odysseus/ raider of cities, he gouged out your
eye (9.559 561). Odysseus arrogance furthers his misfortune, since Polyphemos is Poseidon s son.
Polyphemos proceeds to ask his father to never allow Odysseus to return and if Odysseus returns
home that it be well over due and without his crew;

Conventional Versus Traditional Methods Of Treatment On...
Conventional versus Traditional Methods of Treatment on Psychotic Patients
Introduction
The following reading will present the discussion about cognitive behavioral therapy and how if in
any way, improves the quality of life of patients living with schizophrenia when compared to
conventional pharmacological treatments. Schizophrenia is a debilitating disease that can impact all
areas of an individual life. Even with the use of many therapies available there is room to investigate
which forms of treatment improve the quality of their life. Relapses are high despite all the efforts
made to treat schizophrenia. Increasing evidence suggests that individuals with schizophrenia do best
with a combination of pharmacological and psychosocial intervention (Addington and Lecomte 2012).
Recent traditional cognitive behavioral therapy has been shown to improve the positive and negative
symptoms associated with psychotic patients even when they are compliant with pharmacological
medications. Nurses must integrate the best evidence based treatments shown in practice in order to
care and monitor patients who are schizophrenic thought their lifespan.
Population
Statistical data shows that schizophrenia can be found in one percent of the world s population. The
disorder is partially genetic and occurs usually among young adults, although it can also be developed
later in life. Certain stressors and triggers have been found to increase the risks of developing
schizophrenia. As a result many

Descriptive Essay About Early Birthday
Early Birthday Present It was a beautiful morning on July 5th, 2015. Outside the birds were chirping
and the sun was beaming through my window. I had just woken up as both of my parents came into
my room, and told me to come downstairs for a surprise. In my mind, I thought something had arrived
from Amazon and they decided to give it to me now as an early birthday present. After lying in bed for
a little while on my phone, I decided to get up. I got dressed, brushed my teeth, and went downstairs
to see what this was all about. Right when I turned the corner into the kitchen, I saw a poster board
that said SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! on it. Next to the sign, there was a food bowl and a dog
cage. I immediately knew that it had something to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

else? One more thing. You have to brush him very often because his fur gets tangled after a while.
Okay thanks, we are gonna get him. Great! I have some forms that you have to fill out before you
leave. He exclaimed. I was so happy. After my parents got done paying and getting his forms, we
headed back home! When we got in the car, my parents told me we have to go get a carrier so he
doesn t slide around in the car and get hurt. On the way to the store, he was shaking like he was
scared, and I had a feeling he didn t like being in a car. When we got to Lowes, my mom and I stayed
in the car with Murphy while my dad went in to get the carrier. About 15 minutes later, my dad came
out with a small carrier. It was blue, with black edges. It was perfect! When my dad got in the car, he

  • 2. Analysis Of Laura Mulvey s Film, Visual Pleasure And... Katlyn Riggins WGST 343: 500 Fall 2015 Topic Number 4 Women in film are often portrayed in a manner deemed pleasurable to the male viewer. Laura Mulvey takes this concept and dissects it within her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. Mulvey references the term male gaze, wom[en] displayed as sexual object[s] is the leitmotif of erotic spectacle: from pin ups to strip tease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, she holds the look, and plays to and signifies male desire (Mulvey 40). Because of this interpretation it is relevant to examine different forms of media, such as films, to establish if the male gaze is present. Furthermore, it is appropriate to analyze films directed by women to identify the male gaze, due to their unique interpretation of female character s visual representation. In the essay that follows, it will consider Girlfight and Dance, Girl, Dance to analyze how two separate female filmmakers, Karyn Kusama and Dorothy Arzner respectfully, challenge the theory of the male gaze, along with comparing and contrasting the methods in which such challenges were made, and finally it will address how any filmmaker may object the male gaze. Within the film Girlfight, director Karyn Kusama presents the audience with a strong female protagonist. Actor Michelle Rodriguez debuts her career portraying the lead role of Diana and gives the audience a unique interpretation of the character. We first see the heroine, through a crowd of teenagers walking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. A Brief Note On The And The Affordable Care Act Mike Mosko English 2 3 December 2014 Obamacare vs. The Affordable Care Act: The role of news framing in health care reform. It has officially been over a year since the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, took the nation by storm. Along with its inception came a deeming quality as one of the most ambitious, as well as provocative, instances of health care reform the United States had ever seen. The basic premise of the law is an attempt to ensure that affordable health care is made available for all American public. This is accomplished by providing tax credits on health insurance plans offered by the government, such as Medicaid, to those who remain at a certain Federal Poverty Level and could previously not effort it. The idea is that these discounts would suddenly allow said people to have a better chance at doing so. In addition, the law protects patients with preexisting medical conditions or who suddenly fall ill, forbidding insurance companies from dropping them. It also allows young adults to stay on their parent s plans until the age of 26 and lowers rates for seniors. Those opposed to the law have retaliated, citing increased taxes, allocation of Federal and State funding, mandatory health coverage and, new, unnecessary obligations that insurance companies must follow. It is important to remember that ACA s background, as well as its general support, is Democratic while, the majority of those who oppose it are Republican. The clashing views of ... • 5. The Return Of Martin Guerre Essay Introduction The Tale of Martin Guerre has been retold throughout history in the forms of; a play, movie and a book. What makes this story so interesting is due to the fact that it stems from a real life peasant court case which occurred in the 16th century. In the case, a man by the name of Arnaud du Tilh takes the identity of a middle class family man by the name of Martin Guerre. He manages to take on the persona of Martin Guerre for a period of three years where he manages to both; increase the Guerre family estate, and father a child with Martin s wife, Bertrande de Rols. What helped Arnaud steal Martin s identity was due to the fact that the real Martin Guerre had left his wife and family eight years prior to Arnaud arriving in the French village of Aritigat. Twentieth Century historians Natalie Zemon Davis and Robert Finlay have attempted to provide historical reasoning for why the case of Martin Guerre became so popular. As this essay will show; both historians were constrained to the same archival evidence; however they used different methods of interpretation to come up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her writing of the book postdates the movie of Martin Guerre, Le Retour de Martin Guerre, which Davis herself was involved in with the screenplay . Davis was not thrilled about the interpretation of the movie because it strayed from the actual events of the court case . As a result, Davis wrote The Return of Martin Guerre using her own interpretations based on the archival evidence she collected. Davis ultimate goal was to ensure that her book was easily accessible to all audiences and therefore, she catered to different groups of people through her choice of detail, literary voice, and metaphor as by topical analysis . By writing about how people lived during the 16th century, French society, readers are more understanding of why people did what they did; specifically in regards to the Martin Guerre court ... • 6. Social And Negative Effects Of Interracial Marriage America socially and culturally has come a long way with desegregation, as one in six U.S. newlyweds (17%) were married to a person of a different race or ethnicity in 2015, a more than fivefold increase from 3% in 1967 (Kristen Bialik n.p.). The reason behind this is because about 50 years ago, there were many laws put in place that bans interracial marriage. However, the situation changed when a when a white man and a black woman, the Lovings, violated Virginia s Racial Integrity Act of 1924, which prohibited interracial marriage. The Lovings were sentenced to a year in prison but they brought their case before the Supreme Court and their love won. In 1967, the justices ruled in their favor in Loving vs. Virginia, thereby invalidating all race based restrictions on interracial marriage in the United States (Story Hinckley n.p.). With just one family resisting the laws, it changed the perspective of the whole world as they proved that it was wrong to deny the freedom of marrying whoever you wanted. Although people are slowly trying to become more accepting of different views towards mixed marriage, families dealing with this situation are experiencing negative and positive reactions from society. Children, in particular, show the most concern regarding the impact interracial marriage has on their social and physiological issues. Parents play a crucial role in a child s development as they provide the first experience in life that influences the future. The atmosphere of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In developing economies the cost per year of immunizing children against infectious diseases is equivalent to the cost of a single day of health care in the United States of America. They found out that young coconut husk extract imparts red to maroon color on silk, piña seda and piña while it produces an old rose color on cotton. Coconut husks potential to impart red color comes as a necessary indulgence for textile manufacturers who use in great quantities the non colorfast red dye from sibukao (Caesalpinnia sappan). The textile institute s research study revealed that young coconut husks sourced from different locations produce varying shades of red. This required thus hue and color tint matching capabilities and adjustments in the dyeing parameters. In addition, DOST PTRI found that coconuts from high elevations yield almost no color compared with coconuts from coastals and low lying areas. • 10. Three Ways Police and Probation Officers can Reduce Gang... Police and probation officers use two words to describe their jobs, to protect and to serve. Not only do they put their lives in danger every day, but also help the community in more ways than one. Some ways that police and probation officers can help lower gang violence is by implementing laws more accordingly, establishing a relationship with troubled youth, and creating programs that benefit their well being. The root of gang violence all begins at home and then spreads. A troubled teen may be lacking the love and attention from their parent whether it is because they work too much, or simply do not care. Then, the teen will result attending school and will begin to find that comfort in places that they can feel stability. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If parents cannot control their children then police officers will need to teach teens why breaking the law does not have a lovely consequence. Probation officers tend to deal with the softer side of reducing gang violence. Once a teen is arrested for having or selling drugs then they are assigned a probation officer that will follow up on their progress and insure they are staying out of trouble. They will do routine visits to their home, place of work, or school. Especially for teens that are involved in gang violence this could be an important factor to getting them to release their old ways and straighten out. If a teen is part of a gang chances are they will be willing to take responsibility when they are caught with drugs. The purpose of the probation officer will be educating them on why that life style could not benefit their well being in any way. Instead, they will try to suggest distancing themselves from those so called friends that only indulge bad behaviors. A probation officer can even suggest to the court once they report back to the judge that the teen may need to be relocated whether it be to another school or with another family member. This will allow positive reinforcements to surround them. ` We establish that building a good relationship with these teens is essential. According to David Forbes, he interviewed a probation officer named Sharon who stated in order to be a good probation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the text The Cockatoucan, or Great Aunt Willoughby by E. Nesbit compiled in Neil Gaiman s Unnatural Creatures, draws attention to gender and age inequality. In the story, the protagonist demonstrates her maturity throughout her journey, which enables her to salvage the kingdom from the unnatural creature. I will argue that Nesbit imposes on the themes of Voyage and Return and Coming of Age to show how a young girl can mature and gain wisdom through conflicts between human vs. unnatural in a double standard society. Many of us have trouble letting go of old ways of viewing people who have been part of our lives for an extended period of time. It is hard for parents to make that transition from treating their children as kids, to treating them as adults and more like friends. Many of these same parents have trouble letting go of viewing themselves, primarily, in the role of parent. Perceived behavioural control Perceived behavioural control is the extent to which a person feels able to enact the behaviour. The Effects Of Domestic Violence On Children Essay Domestic violence is a crime of either passion or violence which should never be tolerated by anybody if at all the society is to be made safe enough for people to live in. Domestic violence can be defined as any threatening, abusive, or violent behavior in the home either between adult children and other adult family members (Gibbons, 2011). It can also be used by one intimate partner to establish power and control over the other partner through fear and intimidation. Domestic violence can happen anywhere to anyone of any race, religion, culture, or economic status. It can occur in any relationship, including heterosexual, gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender and also within extended families (Women s Aid 2010). It affects both partners, their children, other family members, friends, and colleagues. Although emotional abuse in a relationship can happen equally regardless of gender, the more threatening and dangerous forms of domestic violence are usually committed by a man against a woman (Patriarchal Roots, n.d). Often the aggressor in a violent relationship feels a high level of ownership over the other partner and the children which too often results in injury or death if this person tries to end the relationship or report the violence. Unfortunately, children are not left out and many times they fall victims of abuse or sexual assault (Sexual violence against women, n.d). Globalization has resulted in interconnecting the world in such a manner that was unimaginable even two decades ago. No longer can any state, nation, or people expect to remain an island. Indeed, as we are interconnected, so too are our fates. If the United States is to ensure security and prosperity for her citizens now and for future generations, we must clearly acknowledge that part we play in the continuum of shifting word powers and peace. We must recognize that although we are the world s leading power, we are not the sole possessor and arbiter of influence. The nuclear arms race of the Cold War years has given way to a race for building alliances in this age of globalization. If we are to be successful in our pursuit of a more peaceful and sustainable world order, we must be cognizant of the opportunities to help fledgeling democracies take root. As well, we must be aware of the more nefarious motives of nations for whom state intervention is merely a thin veil for imperialistic ambitions. With this, we consider the recent events in Ukraine and its impact on our national security. Brief History of Ukraine An independent country embroiled in civil war, Ukraine fell prey to attack from Soviet forces in 1921. The acquisition of the eastern two thirds of the state by Russia was considered crucial...to the formation of the Soviet Union (Conant, 2014). Over the next two decades, ... • 37. Role Of Gods In The Odyssey The Odyssey details Odysseus arduous return to his homeland. Ten years have passed since the end of the Trojan war and Odysseus, the most cursed man alive , has been missing and presumed dead by many. (10.79). Throughout the novel, gods play a significant role in the fate of Odysseus and other characters. The extent of the gods role though is not unqualified, contrary to Telemachus suggestion that, Zeus is to blame./He deals to each and every/ laborer on this earth whatever doom he pleases (1.401 403). While Zeus does have this power, his description of how humans meet their fate is more accurately depicted throughout the novel. As he aptly points out, from us alone, the say, come all their miseries, yes,/ but they themselves, with their own reckless ways,/ compound their pain beyond their proper share (1.38 52). While the gods do doom certain mortals, many of these mortals exacerbate their ill fate by making rash decisions and ignoring the gods warnings. The gods are also not always disrupting mortals lives; they often aid mortals in need. In fact, mortals who effectively court the favor of the gods often benefit greatly. While the gods powers are unquestionable, no one god s power is insurmountable. Gods can be outsmarted and their wrath escaped. The Odyssey, in congruence with Zeus statement, ultimately, portrays human freedom as existent, but limited. While mortals do not unjustly complain about their fates, they fail to acknowledge that they are also responsible for their ill fate, as mortals themselves, possess a sizable degree of control. There is little doubt that Odysseus and his crew are unlucky, but had it not been for their brash decisions they would have reached Ithaca much sooner. After Odysseus cunningly escapes the Cyclops, Polyphemos, his pride gets the best of him, as taunts the Polyphemos proclaiming, if any man on the face of the earth should ask you/ who blinded you, shamed you so say Odysseus/ raider of cities, he gouged out your eye (9.559 561). Odysseus arrogance furthers his misfortune, since Polyphemos is Poseidon s son. Polyphemos proceeds to ask his father to never allow Odysseus to return and if Odysseus returns home that it be well over due and without his crew; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Conventional Versus Traditional Methods Of Treatment On... Conventional versus Traditional Methods of Treatment on Psychotic Patients Introduction The following reading will present the discussion about cognitive behavioral therapy and how if in any way, improves the quality of life of patients living with schizophrenia when compared to conventional pharmacological treatments. Schizophrenia is a debilitating disease that can impact all areas of an individual life. Even with the use of many therapies available there is room to investigate which forms of treatment improve the quality of their life. Relapses are high despite all the efforts made to treat schizophrenia. Increasing evidence suggests that individuals with schizophrenia do best with a combination of pharmacological and psychosocial intervention (Addington and Lecomte 2012). Recent traditional cognitive behavioral therapy has been shown to improve the positive and negative symptoms associated with psychotic patients even when they are compliant with pharmacological medications. Nurses must integrate the best evidence based treatments shown in practice in order to care and monitor patients who are schizophrenic thought their lifespan. Population Statistical data shows that schizophrenia can be found in one percent of the world s population. The disorder is partially genetic and occurs usually among young adults, although it can also be developed later in life. Certain stressors and triggers have been found to increase the risks of developing schizophrenia. As a result many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Descriptive Essay About Early Birthday Early Birthday Present It was a beautiful morning on July 5th, 2015. Outside the birds were chirping and the sun was beaming through my window. I had just woken up as both of my parents came into my room, and told me to come downstairs for a surprise. In my mind, I thought something had arrived from Amazon and they decided to give it to me now as an early birthday present. After lying in bed for a little while on my phone, I decided to get up. I got dressed, brushed my teeth, and went downstairs to see what this was all about. Right when I turned the corner into the kitchen, I saw a poster board that said SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! on it. Next to the sign, there was a food bowl and a dog cage. I immediately knew that it had something to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I m thinking about Murphy , do you like that? He doesn t have an original name, so you can name him whatever you want, any ideas? The owner asked. We have already decided on Murphy. My mom explained. Sounds wonderful, there s just a few things you need to know. Okay My mom replied. If he gets a little hyper, give him this medicine to calm him down He replied as he handed over the medicine. Got it, anything else? One more thing. You have to brush him very often because his fur gets tangled after a while. Okay thanks, we are gonna get him. Great! I have some forms that you have to fill out before you leave. He exclaimed. I was so happy. After my parents got done paying and getting his forms, we headed back home! When we got in the car, my parents told me we have to go get a carrier so he doesn t slide around in the car and get hurt. On the way to the store, he was shaking like he was scared, and I had a feeling he didn t like being in a car. When we got to Lowes, my mom and I stayed in the car with Murphy while my dad went in to get the carrier. About 15 minutes later, my dad came out with a small carrier. It was blue, with black edges. It was perfect! When my dad got in the car, he gave me the carrier and I put Murphy in. Murphy crawled in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
