131 people have died in mass school shootings since 1999 to 2015 (Le Miere). This excludes any
shootings that have resulted with 4 or less fatalities because they are not considered mass shootings.
However, these tragic events can be prevented or stopped faster if a trained adult had presented a
firearm. I believe that if a teacher would like to have a firearm in their classroom to help prevent any
fatalities from possible school shootings they should be allowed. Many people oppose the concept
of guns in the classroom, but a compromise can be found between the two sides of the continuum.
These compromisation can be applied to the classroom to help stop school shootings and make sure
school shootings don't occur.
Many people oppose the concept of their being a gun in the classroom. These people who oppose it
are a genuine part of the application process for this policy to be applied and their opinions and
worries need to be heard. However not every need can be met most can and both sides can come to a
compromise.The teacher not being able to handle the firearm or react in a dangerous situation is a
big worry for many people. "Most people would not have the nerve, rational thought, or skill to do it
on the spot. Providing stop–gap "training" would not address the whole picture. You would be

A school shooting occurred on February 14, 2018. The shooter is 19–year–old Nikolas Cruz. Cruz
had planned this for a while. He slipped into the school carrying a rifle case, pulled a fire alarm,
waited for students to leave there classrooms then shot up the school. After which, when the students
were being evacuated, he proceed to leave behind other students to be unnoticed. Cruz killed 17
students and adults, and wounded 14 others.
I believe the school shooting could've been preventable. Through the years of 2008–2017, there
were 18 warning calls all about Cruz's actions about school shootings. Also Cruz had some very

the most tragic by far, however everyone always asks why such a horrible crime happens, but no one

Media always say that one was mentally ill, or that one was going through a change at the time they

That was said on the idea and purpose of code red drills. These drills and procedures are helping, but
even with the increased security, there were around 50 school shootings in just 2015 alone (Code

have learned why teens and adults shoot up schools and how these shootings happen. Most of the

Rampage: Social Roots of School Shootings The first chapter I read was number 7, Why Kids Don't
Tell. This chapter focused on the reason why kids don't tell people of authority when they hear of
something that is "Suppose to happen". For the 3 shootings focused on in the chapter, there were
multiple people for each shooting that heard the shooters make threats of violence. The main
question then is why didn't anybody report what he or she heard? There were multiple reasons that
all make logical sense. The first reason was that people didn't take the threats seriously and often
saw them as jokes or just brushed them off. It also was brought up that it was hard to validate threats
because the people who talked about doing something were often jokesters, so the kids who heard
the claims of the shooters often brushed them off as jokes. In todays language kids always say "oh I
want to kill him" or "I want to hurt the", but most kids are all talk. When they say such things they
were angry at the time and usually don't follow through with the violence they say. Another reason
kids don't tell is that they are afraid of the consequences. Kids abide by the Adolescent Code and see
adults as enemies. Kids fear that if they tell an adult, then the adult will talk to the child, but often
not keep the person's identity who told a secret, then they could be a potential target for the shooter.
The thought of their identity not being confidential often steers them away for tattling.

A method of preventing school shootings would be to acknowledge risk factors that the student is
facing. For example, bullying is a risk factor for school shootings. In a research study done in 2001
of 37 school shootings, it was reported that 75% of the school shooters felt bullied, threatened, or
injured by others in which most of the shooters in the report had experienced long–term bullying
and harassment from their peers (Duplechain & Morris, 2014). In addition, the authors do state:
"School personnel too often accept that children get teased and bullied every day, because teachers,
parents, students, and other adults have grown up thinking that bullying is a normal part of school
life. It has easily become an accepted part of today's school culture" (Ibid, 2014). The authors
believe that schools view bullying as something that students should get used to. This does show
how bullying is an issue in schools. It is not solely to blame in regards to school shootings, but is a
risk factor for them. Relationships and past traumas are risk factors for school shootings
(Duplechain & Morris, 2014). The author states in regards to relationships and school shootings
"The lack of attachment with their parents or caregivers at the beginning of their life to some of the

After the shootings take place that's not the end for the killers or the victims, unless the end result is
suicide for themselves. Some killers take the easy way out, in my opinion the coward way. After
they take innocent lives some then turn and kill themselves. I feel like this is an easy way out. They
don't have to explain the reasons for their actions or suffer any consequences. Many families feel
they receive justice if the killer has to serve time or give a reason for the gruesome crime. As a result

On April 20th, 1999 the United States was shaken by 2 young men. The boys were Dylan Klebold,
age 17, and Eric Harris, age 18. They showed up at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado,

time another one occurs, we all pause and think about how terrible it is that someone would get to
the point mentally where they would open fire on students, and then we move on. Perhaps no school

health classes. Something I do not agree on is a teacher being armed with gun through the school

years. School shootings continue to become more and more common, especially in North America.
Safety concerns for any and all students and staff in schools are at all all time high due to the high

School shootings have become a major problem not only in South Carolina, but in the United States.
School shootings have shockingly become more likely now than ever. A recent report showed that

are going to carelessly leave firearms unlocked with ammo nearby, what is stopping a child from

The Consequences Of School Shootings
After written by Francine Prose is a dystopian novel about a nearby school shooting and the
attempts to become a safer program and school to gain the result that students feel safer while
gaining their education. Following the school shooting, a large amount of safety measurements and
guidelines are enforced to prevent it from happening at Central High School. In 2013, Everytown
which is a gun safety organization began tracking gunfire in schools and at college and universities
– public reports that a firearm was discharged inside a school building or on school or campus
grounds – and over the next three years identified 160 qualifying incidents. (Everytown) This is
evidence which shows that this is still a social issue today. Not only is this social issue turned into a
dystopian novel, but is also depicted in our real world society today as you can see the measures. A
social relation to this can also be 9/11. If you have ever been on a plane dating back before
September 11th, 2001 you would know that security and customs weren't as dramatic and as much
as an uphold until the attack occurred. Since the attack many security policies were put into force
and immediately there was a change to eliminate this problem from occurring again. Just like the
book After the school started enforcing policies and guidelines to ensure this doesn't happen again.
In the US, school shootings aren't something that is rare, unfortunately, they happen quite often. Due
to the violence the school must enforce rules that may seem bezerk, in the book rules began to be
enforced, for example, the students were no longer able to wear the color red because the shooters at
the school wore the color red. A societal comparison can be the dress codes enforced in schools
today to eliminate gang alliance, violence, and risky behavior. In the novel, Francine Prose uses a
good choice of diction while developing the tone of the story. When frightening conflicts happen
nearby it tends to affect the individuals involved or closely surrounded by the event for a period of
time. To continue, Thomas's dad discusses the nearby shooting with his son and states, "It's
worrisome... I guess I didn't know how bad things were until the school started sending

For instance, the same boy from the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School had
divorced parents. His parents separated in 2002 and divorced in 2009. His parent's separation caused
him to suffer mentally and become severely depressed. In eighth grade his mother, Nancy Lanza,
withdrew him from school and placed him in homeschool for kids who are "too disabled" to attend
school. Adam Lanza returned to school for a short period of time during tenth grade, but was
withdrawn again after. He finished high school by taking classes at a local college, but matters only
got worse after he graduated in 2009. He went out less and less and eventually refused to leave his
room. He would cover his windows with black garbage bags and communicated with his mother via
email. After his parent's divorce, he stopped replying to his father's emails between 2010 and 2012.
Depression hit him very hard and he wasn't receiving the help he really needed. "At the time of his
death, the chief medical examiner deemed him anorexic, "to the point of malnutrition and resultant
brain damage". He was six feet tall but weighed only 112 pounds." (Sandy Hook) His parent's
separation clearly caused him to develop severe mental issues that eventually led him to shoot up
