Rise Of Christianity Essay
Christianity began way back when during the reign of Tiberius, lasting from 14 C.E to 37 C.E.
During this time, a man by the name of Jesus began his teachings and Christianity was born. It was
a religion created by the mass number of followers that Jesus procured through his teachings, the
people who held onto every single of his words. During this time, there was much war and many
civil wars throughout the Roman Empirewhich had erupted into mass chaos. Zealots were
encouraging armed rebellion and it was then that Christians, or self proclaimed people of this new
belief or religion, believed in what they deemed the Messiah, who according to text, would destroy
Roman legions and bring times of happiness to the world around them (McKay, 168). Paganism
was another type of religion that began around this time as well, for the people who practiced
religions outside the well received Judaism and Christianity. What would be known as synchronistic
religions blended together both Roman and indigenous deities. Statues, temples, and monuments
were all built or constructed due to this belief and there was an ideal that existed in which there
was believed to be life after death (McKay, 168). Jesusplayed a vital role to Christianity during this
time, especially where the Roman Empire was concerned. According to text, he was... Show more

This would evolve into how we see Christianity today. Another man, Paul of Tarsus, played a
very important role in the finding and developing of Christianity. As Paul felt a part of both the
Romans and the Jews, he would write letters of advice to all of those who came to him. The
Roman Empire could spread its belief and power quickly. The empire in their minds was also
universal and so Christians combined the ideas of Universalism (McKay,

How Did Ben Carson Impact Personal Life
1. How did Ben Carson s story impact your personal life? Give 2 3 examples.
Ben Carson s story impacted my personal life in many ways. Ben Carson is an inspiration for
numerous aspiring doctors or other careers in the medical field. He is also an inspiration to
people of color and financially unstable people. He has surpassed multiple hardships and is a very
successful person today. Everyone who is active in currents events know who he is because he is
running for the Republican Presidential Election and/or his astounding and notable surgeries.
One major aspect in his life that inspired me that I have the potential of fulfilling my dreams is
his humble beginnings. Carson was not as privileged as he is today; he was an inner city kid
born and raised in Detroit by only his mother. His mother made sure her children had morals and
an education because she herself did not go to school past the third grade and was not able to
read well. In the beginning of his school years, he was at the back of his class and made fun of
by the other children because he did not excel in his classes. He turned this around and became top
of his class due to his mother enforcement of studious habits. Despite his past, he was accepted into
one of the most elite universities in the world, Yale University. Ben Carsonwas also admitted into a

The Roles Of Television And Minorities In Television
Minorities in Television
Maria Lopez
Minority Relations
Eleonora Hicks
October 3, 2017
Over the years television has been known to be one of the major educating and socializing
institution in America. Television in today s society is able to play a powerful key through which
individuals can be informed, hold forums, and voice their opinion s. Televisionis also important
because it offers us glimpses into minority life and minority figures. When sociologists examine
minorities in television they document how minorities are portrayed and how those portrayals have
changed over the years. Through time, minorities in television have been able to make moderate
gains whether they are in front of or behind cameras. However, they continue to remain significantly
underrepresented as leading actors in films, as writers, and as TV show creators. Even though
minorities are significantly underrepresented in today s society the TV industry has been pushing to
give an opportunity to many minority groups in succeeding in the media. Several TV shows and
commercials have succeeded in the TV industry to try and change how minorities are
underrepresented, however, there are also shows that reinforce stereotypes and are prejudice
towards minorities.
Grey s Anatomy is a television medical drama that has been running for a little over a decade. This
show is known to have one of the most diverse cast in the history of American television. Actors

Christianity In The Chronicles Of Narnia
Christian ideals in children s literature pose a serious threat to individuality. Clive Staples Lewis
wrote The Chronicles of Narnia in 1950, he hoped to write a book even non religious people
could pick up and read. Being his most popular book, children and adults alike took to this book,
along with theologians. His book is a complete copy of the Bible, only switched around to make
fantastic settings and characters like Aslan the lion, the Jesus Christ of Narnia. He also uses
children as the main characters so the younger audience can relate, again, making these children
prone to choosing a religion early on. C.S. Lewis wrote wonderful books, but his push of
Christianity is quite offensive to some readers. The most factual correlation between the Bible and
The Chronicles of Narniais that they are both works of fiction. Christianity, and all religion, are
ways for the uneducated to understand their world without science. Now, not all religious people
are uneducated, yet they look for something higher than themselves, in fear there is actually nothing
in the afterlife. Along with this, there is a lot of evil in the bible, If there be found among you,

Edmund enters Narnia through the wardrobe and first finds the White Witch, who, in this story, is
the Devil or demon character. In turn for his companionship, she offers him Turkish Delights, which
Edmund develops an insatiable taste for. This is the sin of gluttony, and the White Witch is the
temptress. Lewis chose a woman because throughout history, the person who tempts the protagonist
is usually a woman or genderless being. Edmund soon realizes the White Witch s evil intentions. A
rescue party is sent for Edmund after his realizations and he is almost killed. When found, Aslan

Bird’s Eye- view of Foucauldian Perspective to Commercial...
Michel Foucault was a French philosopher or a historian of systems of thought. His theories
addressed the relationship between power and knowledge, and how they are used as a form of
social control through societal institutions. Through his impressive career Foucault became
known for his many demonstrative arguments that power depends not on material relations or
authority but instead primarily on discursive networks. The sole purpose of the present research
paper is to evaluate the power relations which exist within the hierarchies and the workers. The
Foucauldian perspective plays an important part in terms of an understanding of power, despite
the fact that it is very different to fully comprehend the meanings behind Foucault s works.
(McHoul and Grace, 1993, viii) A Dictionary of Political Thought (1983) commented on power
as: The ability to achieve whatever effect is desired, whether or not in the face of opposition.
Power is a matter of degree: it can be conferred, delegated, shared and limited...power may be
exercised through influence or through control...power is an undisputable fact... (Scruton, 1983)
Power varies according to the individual s wants and requirements for it. It can be exercised either
by influence or by control. It exists in multifarious forms. Power is totally dependent on
relationships. Power is neither given, nor exchanged, nor recovered,

Paper One: People of color
Why do people think just by passing laws that the issues are resolved? Lauryn Hill is an African
American legend who was born in South Orange, New Jersey. She is famous for her wonderful
music and her marvelous poems. Ms. Hill is very multi talented, due to her singing, writing, and
guitar skills. Ms. Hill wrote one of her famous poems called Mystery of Iniquity. Her poem
Mystery of Iniquity was about her critique of the criminology of criminal justice system. The
poem Mystery of Iniquity was written May 7, 2008, and made a huge effect of African Americans.
During the 2008 era black people were moving on up toward victory because we had our first
African American president Barack Obama.
A reoccurring theme is the idea of iniquity. Iniquity is defied as a lack of fairness or justice. Rosa
park is a perfect example of the definition iniquity. Rosa is an activist who had to give up her seat
an educated black woman to a white man on a public bus. She was treated with an unfair lack of
justice. People of color have been discriminated all of their lives due to the fact that they are
born darker then others. Black people get discriminated against every day because we are always
being accused of breaking the law when in reality we really are not doing anything. People of
color have no justice when it comes to the law. Black people has been treated fairly when it comes
to anything. People of

Marketing Plan For Fast Food Industry
America has been encountering many different types of cultures since it was first founded. These
distinct types of cultures lead to the development of various types of food options. Since the last
three decades of the twentieth century, fast food productions stood out to be the top meal choice.
The reason for this expansion of encounters with fast foodhas to deal with the American desire to
gain more material wealthand become more prosperous which is crucial when the nation is in an
economic depression. Americans expanded their encounters with fast foods to help the nation
acquire the wealth that it desperately needs by means of franchising, advertising, and processing of
food.
A strategy that the Americans use when they seek to get out of this economic depression is
Franchising. Franchising became the top choice that America has went to because of its vast
potential in money making. Franchising acquired its popularity by establishing a common method
of service which gave customers the comfort that they look for when they look for a meal. The
mother company surveys its baby companies to make sure that they are performing at the accepted
standards. For this purpose the mother company is willing to give out training at Hamburger
University to teach their workers the proper way to serve and obtain more consumers. When the
customers go out to get their meals, they are going for something that they are familiar with.

Training Day (King Kong Clip)
ENG225: Introduction to Film (GSK1301D)

During the process of envisioning and designing a film, the director, production designer, and art
director (in collaboration with the cinematographer) are concerned with several major spatial and
temporal elements. These design elements punctuate and underscore the movement of figures
within the frame, including the following: setting, lighting, costuming, makeup, and hairstyles.
Choose a scene from movieclips.com. In a three to five page paper, (excluding the cover and

All the interiors done on stage were taken from the locations and researched in the neighborhoods
with the help of the residents which also gave the film the authenticity of being in the hood . She
became sort of an urban anthropologist, because everything the viewer sees is as it really is. The
colors and textures used, change throughout the scene, but everything they used was taken directly
from the neighborhood that you find yourself in throughout the clip.
Cinematographers and art directors play a very important and creative role in film production.
They work closely with the director and give a film its unique visual look and identity. The art
director, David Lazan and cinematographer, Mauro Fiore, shot the film almost entirely in
sequence, following the clock from the crack of dawn to a very dark night of reckoning.
Compressing intense action and emotion into a brief time frame became one of their key
challenges. They had to make sure the film felt like it was one single day unfolding which became
the single biggest challenge during the production.
Explain how the artists utilize lighting in the scene. How does the lighting affect our emotional
understanding of certain characters? What sort of mood does the lighting evoke? How does
lighting impact the overall story the filmmaker is attempting to tell? Describe the setting, including
the time period, location, and culture in which the film takes place.

Who is stronger? The East or the West? Do the Oriental people truly succumb to the threats of the

want to get dominated by a stronger force, comparing them to a woman, or just simply calling their
race feminine. The show M. Butterfly by David Henry Hwangis able to express different issues
regarding the theory of Orientalism by hiding it amongst several conversations between characters.
The play can be seen as highly political because of topics it chooses to discuss despite the fact that

Death with honor/ Is better than life/ Life with dishonor (17). Gallimard is translating for Song
in this passage. Song being Oriental, this line would be expected and wouldn t cause much of a
point, but when Gallimard states it again in the end of the play on page 68 and it causes much
more feeling out of the audience. Why is that? Gallimard is French and not Chinese. Those
kinds of words aren t stereotypical of a French man, which is normally not known as the
concerns of a Caucasian male, but rather an Oriental male. The aspects of Orientalism are not
solely focused on the West s views of the East, but can also be the other way around. Her mouth
says no, but her eyes say yes. The West thinks of itself as masculine big guns, big industry, big
money so the East is feminine weak, delicate, poor, but good at art, and full of inscrutable
wisdom the feminine mystique. Her mouth says no, but her eyes say yes. The West believes the
East, deep down, wants to be dominated because a woman can t think for herself (62). That
quote was said by Song after he officially reveals to the court that he was a man, but before he
officially revealed it to Gallimard. This quote is important because it gives an impression of what
the East sees the West as and what they realized they re thought of. Song compares himself to a
woman, despite the fact that he dressed as one for twenty years, because

Goodness Tainted Thoreau Quote Analysis Essay
There is no odor so bad as that which arises from goodness tainted.? Walden, Henry David Thoreau
There are two ways that this quotation might be interpreted, one way focuses on a person s
goodness, or lack of, and the other concerns benign or malicious intentions. The quotation could be
interpreted to mean that it is a sadder thing for a good person to decline into immorality than for a
bad person to do something wicked. This interpretation of the quote can be illustrated by the book
The Picture of Dorian Gray. Dorian Gray enters the story as an enchanting, vivacious, almost
cherubic youth, comparable to the beautiful Greek god Adonis. As the story progresses, Dorian gets
drawn into a habit of hedonism, financial waste, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be understood that the tragedy of The Picture of Dorian Gray is that such a fair lad as
Dorian could stoop so low, and the character of ?Harry?, corrupt as it is, is a constant and therefore
does not invoke as much emotional response from the audience. On a similar wavelength, the
quotation could also be interpreted as meaning that good intent with bad outcome is more
unpleasant, or ?foul?, than malicious intent altogether. This is like comparing the Hindenburg
explosion to a kamikaze?s crash. During the 1930?s, the Zeppelin industry served as a peaceful
connector between Germany, other western European nations, and the United States. Though Hugo
Eckener, the head of the Zeppelin company, persevered in his vision of peaceful association, the rise
of Nazi dictatorship threatened the business. The spontaneous combustion of the Hindenburg
Zeppelin over New Jersey caused the American public to voice misgivings about Germany?s
intentions for intercontinental transportation and amplified tensions between European nations,
and the zeppelin business was made to come to an end. Overall, the purpose of Zeppelins was to
establish peace, and it was a fluke of chemistry that malformed their intentions into something
detrimental. In contrast, a kamikaze pilot is one who crashes his or her plane in order to destruct.

Into The Woods By Stephen Sondheim
Into the Woods is a musical that was written by songwriter, Stephen Sondheim and director, James
Lapine. In this musical, several Disney stories are humorously re told by creatively combining
their stories into one interrelated adventure. This show opened on November 5, 1989 and ran 764
performances before this film of the musical was released in 1990. Into the Woodswas one of
Sondheim s most popular works in over 25 years. He is known to be the giant of musical theatre
during his time for such a creative style. Sondheim combines several fairytales to explain what
happens in an adult mind after happily ever after. Lapine and Sondheim harmonize their theatrical
talents of an adult fairy tale through portrayal of adventure, comedy, tragedy, and reality. Like all
Broadway performances and morality, Into the Woods forms pure quality and very little suffering

The fairy tale stories altered to meet the wisdom of an adult while incorporating relative childhood
stories. Danielle Ferland performed as Little Red Riding Hood, Ben Wright as Jack and the

Nuclear Weapons Are The Most Deadly
Nuclear weapons are the most deadly, destructive, and powerful form of technology that the world
has ever created. Officially, only 9 states out of 196 in the international arena have possession of
them. Although nuclear weapons are being eliminated by states, they still hold a significant value
for nations in the IR arena with a nuclear annihilation capacity. States within the international
community that own nuclear arsenals are automatically feared and respected because of the status
symbol they hold. Conversely, this prestige, power, and influence can also back fire on states and
become a disadvantage. States can lose power in the international community by causing tensions
and dividing themselves between states who don t have these nuclear advantages. France is one
country in particular that resembles a superpower with nuclear capability. France has gained power
in the International community through NATO due to their possession of nuclear weapons.
Overall, nuclear weapons still represent a great power in the International Arena today and will
continue holding that power. The ability to produce and launch dangerous, nuclear weapons help
states earn a negotiation power in the international community because nuclear power is equated to
political power. A state that owns nuclear weapons is feared, respected, and seen as a country that
nobody wants to wage a war with, because of the threat of nuclear annihilation. Once a state has

The Debt And Equity Securities
Prior to 2016, both debt and equity securities could be classified as available for sale and their
gains and losses reported in other comprehensive income. However, with the passing of Accounting
Standard Update No, 2016 01, all equity securities must now be classified as trading and their
unrealized gains and losses reported in earnings. After examining the history of available for sale
reporting standard and running pro forma scenarios of Yahoo! Inc. s financial statements, I have

losses on equity securities to appear in earnings rather than other comprehensive income. In May of

Furthermore, even if management lacks the intention to sell, there remain events and circumstances
beyond the control of management that can force the need to sell. By measuring the changes in fair
value in net income it allows the investors to know the potential effects of these events and
circumstances. Critics of the fair value measurement cite the increase in volatility that it causes in
net income. A distinct disadvantage to reporting the gains and losses on the income statement is
that these gains and losses have not actually occurred and may not ever be realized (Proposed
change..., 2009). The input surrounding the current cost method indicated that the method was not
developed enough nor well defined. The board agreed and discarded the method early on in the
deliberations. Those who favor amortized cost claim that it avoids some of the temporary
fluctuations in net income. The arguments against amortized cost include: 1) It reflects an
irrelevant historical transaction price that is not useful in current investment decisions. 2) Use of
amortized cost depends on subjective impairment models that can be manipulated to smooth
earnings. With all things considered, the board decided that a change in fair value being shown in

why Adam Smith believed the benefits outweighed the misfortunes.

Isotope The term isotope is used to describe elements that contain the same amount of protons, but

Isomer Isomers are molecules that contain the same number of atoms of an element, but are

Intangibles and Reserves The Shaw Group SOLUTION
Please refer to the attached Shaw Group case to answer the following questions. 1. What does
the Goodwill from Shaw s acquisitions represent (i.e., what are some of the economic assets that
comprise this account)? Which intangible assets and liabilities does Shaw amortize over time?
Which intangibles, if any, are not amortized? Shaw defines Goodwill as the excess of the
purchase price of acquisitions over the fair value of the net assets acquired (Note 1). The net assets
acquired include not only tangible assets and liabilities, such as accounts receivable and PP E, but

Because the extra profit of these contracts was recognized at acquisition, there must be a reduction
in profits recognized at contract completion to avoid double counting. The amortization of
contract liability adjustments (and accrued contract losses) reduces costs of revenues. Again, the

avoid double counting. 3. Using Exhibit 2, compute Shaw s gross profit margin for each quarter

The Incidence Of Alzheimer s Disease Essay
Etiology
The incidence of Alzheimer s disease is 36 million people worldwide as of 2010, making it the
most common cause of senile dementia. 1This number is expected to nearly double, to 65.7 million
by 2030.1AD is accompanied by pathological features consistent with brain atrophy and neural cell
death. 1The inflammatory response of the brain, that is commonly found in AD, is linked to several
factors. 1Amyloid B, inflammatory cytokines, and sphingolipids are some of the known factors
associated with AD. 1Uncontrolled inflammation, from ongoing or chronic complement activation
is theorized to impact Alzheimer s disease, among other diseases. 2 Recent GWAS shows strong
evidence that complement receptor CR1 is linked to the development of AD, although the
mechanistic basis for the CR1 risk remains largely unknown.2
Pathogenesis
Emerging evidence demonstrates neuroinflammation as a crucial pathophysiology of AD,
specifically impacted by microglia and astroglia. 3 The microglia are distributed evenly across the
brain and are activated by protein aggregation and neuronal cell death. 3 Specifically related to
AD, the two chief proteins involved are amyloid B and tau.3 An accumulation of microglia around
amyloid B plaques has been documented in post mortem human brains and in animal models with
AD.3 Research has yet to clearly determine if microglial activation plays a beneficial or detrimental
role in the progression of AD..3 Some reports suggest that microglia are attracted to

Marriage And Marriage With Cleotilde
In the novel, marriage is more about economic status and opportunity rather than love. Marriage is
supposed to be about abundant mutual love between two people. In this case, marriage is viewed
more as an for opportunity to receive citizenship and a way to improve your of social status.
Relationships and marriageare a common theme throughout the novel.
Obinze s marriage with Cleotilde is one another example in the book of how marriage for men is
viewed as a path to improving your chances of receiving citizenship. Obinzes attempt to marry
Cleotilde was a true fabrication and is not a very good example of what love actually means. When
they first met, Obinze s sense of entitlement, and superiority made in very difficult for him to
treat Cleo as she deserved to be treated. A fake marriage of convenience not for love but for the
opportunity of citizenship is contrary to Obinze s morals. This causes Obinze to have a moral
crisis inside and question the path he has taken in life. Normally marriage happens when two
people decide that they would rather spend time together than apart and would find it difficult to
continue without the other. In a normal relationship couples will from time to time face adversity
and together work to overcome whatever challenges they face, but the adversity faced by the
couple in this novel are bigger and more complex than what other couples would typically face.

What Is My Favorite Burger Essay
Being the son of a baker, I am constantly trying new foods and recipes. I have had anything from

This is why my favorite sandwich is a twist on the true American favorite, the burger. I want you to

nicely done bun. What you need for this is a bun without sesame seeds. You also need a little bit of

This burger is no exception. The burger must also be topped with a scrumptious smoked ham
and delicious bacon. Both of these should be hot when put on the burger. The ham, since it is
smoked, does not need extensive heating which may ruin the beautiful pink color of ham. The
bacon itself should be cooked in a very specific and delicate way. It must be cooked to the point
where it is no longer flimsy, so which would render it chewy, but not overly crunchy which would
render it nearly unedible. For extra flavor, cook both of them in the same place you cooked the
burger without removing the burger grease. The next part of the burger is one of the most essential
and the easiest part. What you need is a little bit of a smooth, white swiss cheese. However, unlike
what many people like to do you should try to refrain from buying the cheapest cheese you can.
When it comes to cheese, the higher priced cheese is more expensive for a reason, and it s the
way to go. When the cheese is set between the slice of ham and the burger, you want it to melt so it
holds the two together, which is something you are not likely to get with a cheaper

Peter Singer s Capacity For Suffering
Peter Singer is a utilitarian philosopher from Melbourne, Australia. He holds the Chair of Ethics
at Princeton University and professor at Charles Sturt University in Melbourne, Australia. His
goal is to show that rights are based in the capacity for suffering. As part of a utilitarian
perspective, Singer denounced the unequal consideration the interests of animals. He compares
the uneven taken into account the interests of the animals with the discrimination suffered by
black people in the West, and by women. The term animal liberation (All Animals Have Rights)
is wanting a layer of the liberation of women (Women Liberation). For Singer, refuse to take into
account the interests of animals on the basis of a difference in kind with the man is comparable
with the rejection suffered by black on the basis of race, or that of women due gender. The
differences reflected in the interests of different groups should not be based on such criteria.

All of the case studies are concerned with the Law of Contract, specifically the formation of a

A contract is an agreement between two or more parties which in Scotland does not need to take a
specific form, as a spoken agreement is still equally as enforceable as a written contract in certain
circumstances such as in most social and domestic arrangements. A contract creates a legally
binding bond between the parties involved. Contracts are made everyday sometimes without even

The area of Law concerned in this case is The Law of Contract specifically relating to the
revocation of an offer and counter offers. The case Wolf and Wolf vs Forfar Potato Co Ltd (1984)
directly links to the case between Bruce and Ken. As Bruce is once again dealing with the Law of
Contract specifically the non acceptance of an offer, he is under no legal obligation to sell Ken
the rare vinyl at the original price of ВЈ40. When Ken rejected the original offer he created a
counter offer which in Scots law is a completely new offer and caused Bruce s original offer to
lapse and was up to Bruce to decide wether or not to accept the new terms, after Bruce rejected
the counter offer all offers between Bruce and Ken had lapsed. When Ken came back insisting
that there was a contract between them and he was entitled to the album Bruce was in fact
under no legal requirement to give Ken the vinyl as all offers had lapsed and no contract existed
between then. In the case of Fisher v Bell (1961) a shopkeeper had displayed a flick knife in his

Eugenics And The Eugenics Movement
Introduction Human beings have always been interested in success, in making sure they survive,
and creating new tools and technology to enable them to reach these goals. So it should come as no
surprise that eugenics follows this same guideline in human history. A term originally coined by
Francis Galton, first cousin to Charles Darwin, eugenicssimply means that the best people in society
with the most healthy normal genes should continue to reproduce and pass on their goodness to the
next generation, while the individuals with the unhealthy genes should be discouraged from having
any children (Allen 2001:59). With movements beginning in the early 20th century, eugenicists and
proponents of the eugenics movement, have taken particular interests in the heritability of social
behaviors, implementing enforcement mechanisms such as military force, law, and forced medical
procedures in order to maintain the well being of societies future generations. Although society
today frowns upon many instances of eugenics in our history, it is still being practiced in the 21st
century. Contemporary eugenics has become much more technologically advanced and individually
focused through the means of prenatal diagnosis and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. Although
these two approaches (past and present) to the eugenics movement are conducted in different ways,
the motivations behind them are theoretically similar. In this paper, I will be summarizing the
history of different

Examples Of Humanity s Sinful Nature And Edmund Pevensie
Humanity s Sinful Nature and Edmund Pevensie
Humanity is a beautiful force of nature, but just as an ocean in beautiful, it is also treacherous.
Human nature is sinful in nature, No one has to teach a child to lie or be selfish; rather, we go to
great lengths to teach children to tell the truth and put others first. Sinful behavior comes naturally.
( What is the sin nature? , 2017). C.S. Lewis wrote a series of books called The Chronicles of
Narnia and in one of these named The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. C.S. Lewis weaves a
wonderful tale about four children collectively called the Pevensie children who find a world
unlike any other inside of a wardrobe. They meet the all powerful Lion, Aslan, that brings awe to
their person. They hear about the White Witchwith all of her horrors, and Edmund (one of the
children) even experiences her himself. The children even fight a battle against the forces of evil
in their minds and physically on the battlefield leading to the thrones of Narnia. Through this grand
story, C.S. Lewis wrote in a character very important to the ideas of human nature. Edmund was
one of the Pevensie children and is used in C.S. Lewis s novel as a representation of humanity. C.S.
Lewis presents Edmund as humanity through his foolish blindness to that which is sin, his pride
and jealousy, and his fear of judgement.
Edmund is already a foolish boy by the result of his sinful nature. C.S. Lewis shows us this in the
book when he writes, He jumped in

The Poetry Of Robert Frost
The purpose of this essay is to examine the poetry of Robert Frost for references to themes of
nature, religion, and humanity and how they relate to each other. This exercise will be prefaced
with a brief introduction to the man and his life as a segue to better understanding Frost s verse.
The unexpected but unavoidable aim of this composition will be to realize that Frost s body of
work is almost too sophisticated to comprehend, his manipulation of language so elusive that each
reader may believe Frost is speaking only to them, as the only incontrovertible truth is the poems
operate on so many levels . The reader should note that no discussion will be offered on poetry
form, as that is a consideration best left to literary experts, and otherwise is not germane to
thematic consideration. However, it takes little competence, more an openness, to allow the paean,
hymnal lyricism of Frost s words to insinuate themselves into one s inner voice; synchronizing with
his struggle to explain our very existence. That, instead, will be the focus of the paper.
Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874 and died in January 1963 at the age of 86. He was born
in San Francisco but relocated with his mother to Massachusetts upon his father s death to live
on his grandparents farm. He showed a propensity for verse at a young age and his first experience
as a published poet occurred while he was still in high school. Here he met the love of his life,
Elinor White. They were co valedictorians

The Triptych Summary
In the catalytic egg article, speculative chemistry was not a religions attempt but rather all the
reasonable, true blue exploration of refining, whose research center strategies shape the premise of
present day science. it was certain that the point and relationship of Bosch s most striking work, the
gathered garden of regular satisfactions triptych, looks to some degree like a fundamental reactant
moral story that disentangles refining as the rehashing creation, decimation, and revival of the
world and its tenants. The substitute extremes were stood out from Adam and Eve in the garden of
Eden, who were joined by Christ as a conclusive pro and specialist. The second step was the growth
of Adam and Eve into the all inclusive community of the world, contrasting with the dynamic
unification of the four segments into a balanced, whole body. By then came organize three, the
troublesome cleaning process, or ruining and obscuring of the arrays of the gatekeepers and their
adolescents, accomplished by hearing the scientific expert s fixings in the most smoking fire
possible. It was symbolized by torment, mutilation, and segment of the converse segments
heretofore taken part in marriage, and Bosch painted his version of it on the third leading group of
the triptych, depicting the most despicable scene of hellfire, torment, and immolation anytime

Ignorance In Flowers For Algernon
The novel Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes is an excellent written novel that has deep
meaning to it. The novel is about a 32 year old man named Charlie Gordon who is mentally
disabled, and he goes through a medical procedure which enhances his knowledge. Throughout
the novel, all Charlie wants to be is normal. Charlie just wants to fit in, have friends, and make his
parents proud. Charlie is the first person ever to go through this surgery so he is going through a
journey that only he has experienced. In the novel, Charlie s operation is based off of a similar
operation that was performed on a mouse called Algernon and the things that happen to Algernon
usually end up happening to Charlie. As Charlie s intelligence increases he goes through struggles
that affect his relationships and his views on life. Charlie experiences and remembers things that
have happened previously in his life and his ultimate goal is to learn his past. At the end of the
novel Charlie starts to lose his intelligence which results in his ultimate demise. Depending on the
situation, ignoranceis bliss, however, there are other scenarios where knowing the whole truth
regardless of the consequences is also beneficial.
To begin with, ignorance in certain situations is bliss and sometimes not knowing the whole truth
is better than knowing all of it. This is certainly the case for Charlie because in the beginning of
the novel Charlie s intelligence is very low and he doesn t understand what is going

The European Witch Hunts In The Inquisition And The Hammer...
Out in Europe, there are some witch hunts going on. These hunts are known as The European
Witch Hunts. This all started back in the 13th century, when two men, Jakob Sprenger and Heinrich
Kramer wrote a book that was called Malleus Maleficarum, that is, The Hammer of Witches. This
book caused the worries of witchcraftand got witch hunts started. In the article The Inquisition
and The Hammer of Witches the text says Both Catholics and Protestants accepted it as the
authority on witchcraft. The work contained imaginative stories about witches based on
folklore, presented theological and legal arguments against witchcraft, and provided guidelines
on how to identify and eliminate witches. The Hammer of Witches has been described as the
most vicious and . . . the most damaging book in all of world literature. (The European Witch
Hunts) This book caused huge witch hunts to break out in Europe. To identify people that were
accused of being a witch the article says Some suspects were bound and put into a blessed body
of cold water. If they sank, they were deemed innocent and pulled out. If they floated, they were
considered witches and executed on the spot or handed over to be tried. Other suspects were

The Relationship Between Internal Control Deficiencies And...
the Relationship Between Internal Control Deficiencies Severities and Audit Fees
1. Introduction
With the development of accounting and the occurrences of accounting scandals, such as Waste
management scandal, Enron scandal, and Worldcom scandal, internal control of a company has
been paid unprecedented attention. For companies, effective internal control activities can help
management to prevent and detect errors or frauds from accounting system so that they can have a
better operating circumstance. In 2002, the United State Congress passed Sarbanes Oxley Section
(SOX) 404, which requires management to assess the effectiveness of a company s internal controls
over financial reporting (ICOFR) and requires external auditors to review management s
assessment, and then to provide their own conclusion related to the effectiveness of the ICOFR
(Choi, Kim, Kwon, Zang, 2010). The Sarbanes Oxley Section 404 indicates the rising concern
about accounting scandals in businesses due to ineffective internal control systems.
Internal controls of companies are to ensure the reliability of financial reporting, which are
developed by companies managements, thus, if a company has deficiencies in their internal control,
it will have a high risk of material misstatement over their financial reporting. Generally, the
likelihood in big firms that errors or frauds are appeared in accounting system is higher than the
likelihood in small firms (Hoitas, Hoitash, Bedard, 2008). Audit risk

Arnold s Dover Beach
English 201
3/9/15
Doubt on Dover Beach:
An Exploration of the Loss of Faith in the Victorian Era The Victorian age is marked by the sudden
and startling changes it brought on the western world. As industrialization, intense colonization, and
expanding practices of sciences abounded, the traditional ideas and ideals that had once seemed
constant and true, were suddenly precarious. Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach has become
quintessential to the Victorian literary canon as it is exactly this struggle with a loss of constancy
and the confrontation with the unknown and uncertainty that Arnold evokes within its lines. Dover
Beach explores the potential effects of these sudden shifts in culture; particularly the shift towards
scientific exploration and the threat this shift had on notions of Christianity and faith. The poem
acts as a grand sweeping metaphor for the ideas of constancy and doubt as it lures the reader into a
sense of permanence and complacency before undermining that sense by contradicting itself and
implementing mistrust; ultimately it leaves the reader with a sense that since faith is not eternal,
nothing is. This metaphor is enhanced and nuanced through Arnold s interesting use of structure
and sudden shifts in tone. The first stanza of Dover Beach consists of fourteen lines in iambic meter
(though not iambic pentameter) with varying lengths and features a seemingly random rhyme
structure of:

Enabling Law In Nazi Germany
Fourthly, Enabling law was key to maintain the Nazism in power without any dispute and therefore
no opposition of the parliament. At the March elections the Nazi party was the largest single
political party. After suspending the Communists, and using his storm troopers (the SA) to
intimidate members of the other parties, Hitler had the two thirds majority in the parliament he
needed to suspend the country s constitution. This was essential since Hitler now had the power to
issue new laws without consulting parliament. Hitler made the Nazis the only legal political
organization in the country. The other parties were banned or dissolved themselves. No one could
now challenge the Nazis legally, which made opposition very dangerous. Opponents

Voltaire Impact On The Enlightenment
Voltaire s Effect on the Enlightenment
The eighteenth century is often called the Age of Enlightenment, but it is just as often called the
Age of Voltaire in the minds of many intellectual historians, the two are synonymous. Voltaire
wrote in many genres, excelling at several, but in the modern era he is best remembered for his
connections with the theater, his philosophical works, and his contes short adventure stories
dramatizing philosophical issues. The most famous of these is Candide (1759), a satire of G.
W. Leibniz s philosophy of optimism, which examined the reality and absurdity of human
suffering. He attracted many admirers as well as many critics; his open anticlerical stance was
particularly controversial and led to many of his works being censored. He was a Deist for much
of his life, and was skeptical of most established political and religious institutions, though he
strove for objectivity in his writings. Although exiled from Paris more than once, by the end of his
life he was generally celebrated as one of France s greatest thinkers. The values for which he fought
most vigorously freedom and progress have become basic assumptions underlying modern Western
civilization.
Voltairewas born Francois Marie Arouet on November 21, 1694 around Paris. His parents were
Marguerite Daumard and Francois Arouet, a notary in Paris. He was so weak at birth that he was
not expected to live, and was ill and hypochondriacal much of his life. Biographers have suggested

Cholelithiasis Research Paper
Introduction
Cholelithiasis (also called gallstones) is a form of gallbladder disease in which gallstones form
in the gallbladder. The gallbladder is an organ that stores bile. Bile is made in the liver, and it
helps digest fats. Gallstones begin as small crystals and slowly grow into stones. Gallstone pain
occurs when the gallbladder contracts and a gallstone is blocking the duct. Pain can also occur
when a stone passes out of the duct.
What are the causes?

In some cases, when gallstones do not move into the bile duct, people have no pain or symptoms.
These are called silent gallstones.
How is this diagnosed?
This condition [is / may be] diagnosed [by / based on / with / during] ____.
How is this treated?
Treatment for gallstones depends on the severity of the condition. Silent gallstones do not need
treatment. In severe cases, emergency surgery may be required. Options for treatment include:
Medicines. These do not always work and may take 6 12 months or more for them to work.
Shock wave treatment (extracorporeal biliary lithotripsy). In this treatment, an ultrasound machine
sends shock waves to the gallbladder to break gallstones into smaller pieces that can then be passed
into the intestines, or be dissolved by medicine.
Surgery to remove the gallbladder. This is the most common treatment. Attacks almost always come
back and surgery is usually required for permanent treatment.
Follow these instructions at home:
Take over the counter and prescription medicines only as told by your health care provider.
Follow a low fat diet until you are seen again by your health care provider. Fat causes the
gallbladder to contract, which can result in

Learning Disabled Students With Learning Disabilities Essay
A learning disabled student not only suffers from being below average in academics, but in many
cases these students suffer with mental illnesses. Students with learning disabilities have lower self
determination in academics and struggle in post secondary education (Jameson, 2007). Higher
levels of anxiety and test taking anxiety can additionally be found in students with learning
disabilities (Nelson, Lindstrom, Foels, 2015). Studies also show that students with learning
disabilities have a higher rate of depression (Ashraf, Najam, 2015). Why are learning disabled
individuals struggling with self worth? The extreme social pressures everyone faces daily has a
negative affect students with learning disabilities. Students with learning disabilities are self
conscious of their impairment. Schools should not only focus on giving extra academic assistances
to students with learning disabilities, but also give resources to help fight mental illness in these
students. Students who have learning disabilities should not suffer from low self determination,
anxiety, and depression. There will be discussion on why these students suffer at a higher rate from
mental illness, and discuss a solution to this issue.Social pressure is a feeling that every human
being has experienced. Humans are naturally social, and be it consciously or subconsciously, all
humans want to fit it. Social pressures come in many forms, such as peer pressure, socioeconomic
pressure, and academic pressure.

Rock And Roll Impact On American Culture
Rock Roll
Rock Roll is a form of popular music that emerged in the United States in the late 40s and early
50s from a fusion of blues, country and gospel, boogie woogie, swing and folk music. All of these
influences combined into a simple song structure, with 12 bar blues being one of the most
significant characteristics, that was often repetitive, fast, danceable and catchy. In fact, blues had the
biggest impact that gave birth to Rock Roll. Typical instruments of Rock Roll include electric
guitar, piano, bass, drums, horns and vocals. It is an important genre of music because it has the
power to not only influence but persist through generations of people and has had a huge impact on
American society by consistently setting the trend for pop music. Just like its influence on other
forms of music, Rock Roll had also influenced lifestyles, fashion, attitudes, television, language and
dance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

these years with its increasing popularity helped the development and spread of gramophone record

Critiquing A Qualitative And Quantitative Study
Critiquing of a Qualitative and Quantitative Study The purpose of this paper will be to present the
contrasts in the type of information that was gained while reviewing two studies. The studies
reviewed were a qualitative study and a quantitative study. The general advantages and
disadvantages of the two types of studies will also be presented. Qualitative and quantitative
studies both have a place in research, even though the two study designs take a very different
approach to research. Lastly, a response will be given in support of the qualitative researchbeing
beneficial to the world of science.
Contrasts in Qualitative versus Quantitative Research
The qualitative study by Madigan, Fleming, McCann, Wright, and MacAuley (2007), explored the
general practitioner s (GPs) knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to enteral feeding in the
community. A qualitative study is subjective and focuses on describing a problem or a condition
from the point of view of those who have experienced the problem or issue (Pilot Beck, 2012). The
information in the study was more in depth, less generalizable while using a smaller sample size.
The sample size is based on informational needs. When saturation has been achieved, there are no
more occurring themes and redundancy is present, the researchers can stop looking for participants.
Semi structured one on one interviews were the method of choice when conducting this study.
Open ended questions were used during the interview

Clarkson Lumber Company Experienced Significant Sales Growth
From 1993 through 1995, Clarkson Lumber Company experienced significant sales growth
19.0% from 1993 to 1994 and 30.0% between 1994 and 1995. Profitability also increased, but not
nearly at the same pace as sales revenue. Net income rose from $60,000 in 1993 to $68,000 in
1994 (a 13.3% increase), to $77,000 in 1995 (13.2% increase). This increase in sales and
profitability demanded growth in working capital and fixed assets to finance the growth, creating
a need for cash that outpaced free cash flow into the firm. Furthermore, Mr. Clarkson s buyout
payments to Mr. Holtz in 1995 and 1996 only added to the liquidity predicament. Thus, Clarkson
was compelled to draw upon his line of credit with Suburban National Bank and begin relying
heavily on trade credit, quickly maxing out his bank credit line by the end of 1995.
The financial strength of Clarkson Lumber has deteriorated between 1993 and 1995. Clarkson
had a free cash flow to the firm of +$2,000 in 1994, but that dropped to $159,000 for 1995.
EBITDA increased over the period, but not matching the pace of net debt increases; Clarkson s
leverage (Net Debt / EBITDA) was 1.21 in 1993, increasing to 2.31 and 2.95 in 1994 and 1995,
respectively. First quarter 1996 statements annualized over the entire year projected leverage to
increase to 4.94 by the end of 1996, assuming no credit line cap and no other changes.
The trade discount of 2% provides a very attractive opportunity for Clarkson Lumber to dramatically

Kitty Genovese Study

stop and look at her and are conflicted on whether or not to help her clean up the mess.
Everyday, people witness another person needing help. The reasoning that causes one person to
help may stop another from helping, whether it is time, convenience, or maybe sincerity.
Throughout our history, there have been multiple studies on what makes a person more prone
to help than another person. With this research study, we can decipher what makes or prevents a
person from helping another. By conducting this study, we may be able to provide input for
some people on why another person is more likely to help than per say, they are. Darley and

LatanГ© (1968) decided to come up with a study to test multiple participants and see if the
number of witnesses around an emergency affects a person helping during the emergency.
Darley and LatanГ© (1968) determined from the results that the number of bystanders does in
fact affect if a person helps. Darley and Batson (1973) also conducted a study on helping
behaviors in people. Darley and Batson (1973) gathered 3 hypotheses for this specific study;
they hypothesized that people who were in a rush were less likely to help than people who were

means that for every share of common stock outstanding, Nordstrom has an income of $3.79 in

  • 3. Rise Of Christianity Essay Christianity began way back when during the reign of Tiberius, lasting from 14 C.E to 37 C.E. During this time, a man by the name of Jesus began his teachings and Christianity was born. It was a religion created by the mass number of followers that Jesus procured through his teachings, the people who held onto every single of his words. During this time, there was much war and many civil wars throughout the Roman Empirewhich had erupted into mass chaos. Zealots were encouraging armed rebellion and it was then that Christians, or self proclaimed people of this new belief or religion, believed in what they deemed the Messiah, who according to text, would destroy Roman legions and bring times of happiness to the world around them (McKay, 168). Paganism was another type of religion that began around this time as well, for the people who practiced religions outside the well received Judaism and Christianity. What would be known as synchronistic religions blended together both Roman and indigenous deities. Statues, temples, and monuments were all built or constructed due to this belief and there was an ideal that existed in which there was believed to be life after death (McKay, 168). Jesusplayed a vital role to Christianity during this time, especially where the Roman Empire was concerned. According to text, he was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. How Did Ben Carson Impact Personal Life 1. How did Ben Carson s story impact your personal life? Give 2 3 examples. Ben Carson s story impacted my personal life in many ways. Ben Carson is an inspiration for numerous aspiring doctors or other careers in the medical field. He is also an inspiration to people of color and financially unstable people. He has surpassed multiple hardships and is a very successful person today. Everyone who is active in currents events know who he is because he is running for the Republican Presidential Election and/or his astounding and notable surgeries. One major aspect in his life that inspired me that I have the potential of fulfilling my dreams is his humble beginnings. Carson was not as privileged as he is today; he was an inner city kid born and raised in Detroit by only his mother. His mother made sure her children had morals and an education because she herself did not go to school past the third grade and was not able to read well. In the beginning of his school years, he was at the back of his class and made fun of by the other children because he did not excel in his classes. He turned this around and became top of his class due to his mother enforcement of studious habits. The Roles Of Television And Minorities In Television Minorities in Television Maria Lopez Minority Relations Eleonora Hicks October 3, 2017 Over the years television has been known to be one of the major educating and socializing institution in America. Television in today s society is able to play a powerful key through which individuals can be informed, hold forums, and voice their opinion s. Televisionis also important because it offers us glimpses into minority life and minority figures. When sociologists examine minorities in television they document how minorities are portrayed and how those portrayals have changed over the years. Through time, minorities in television have been able to make moderate gains whether they are in front of or behind cameras. However, they continue to remain significantly underrepresented as leading actors in films, as writers, and as TV show creators. Even though minorities are significantly underrepresented in today s society the TV industry has been pushing to give an opportunity to many minority groups in succeeding in the media. Several TV shows and commercials have succeeded in the TV industry to try and change how minorities are underrepresented, however, there are also shows that reinforce stereotypes and are prejudice towards minorities. • 6. Christianity In The Chronicles Of Narnia Christian ideals in children s literature pose a serious threat to individuality. Clive Staples Lewis wrote The Chronicles of Narnia in 1950, he hoped to write a book even non religious people could pick up and read. Being his most popular book, children and adults alike took to this book, along with theologians. His book is a complete copy of the Bible, only switched around to make fantastic settings and characters like Aslan the lion, the Jesus Christ of Narnia. He also uses children as the main characters so the younger audience can relate, again, making these children prone to choosing a religion early on. C.S. Lewis wrote wonderful books, but his push of Christianity is quite offensive to some readers. The most factual correlation between the Bible and The Chronicles of Narniais that they are both works of fiction. Christianity, and all religion, are ways for the uneducated to understand their world without science. Now, not all religious people are uneducated, yet they look for something higher than themselves, in fear there is actually nothing in the afterlife. • 7. Bird’s Eye- view of Foucauldian Perspective to Commercial... Michel Foucault was a French philosopher or a historian of systems of thought. His theories addressed the relationship between power and knowledge, and how they are used as a form of social control through societal institutions. Through his impressive career Foucault became known for his many demonstrative arguments that power depends not on material relations or authority but instead primarily on discursive networks. The sole purpose of the present research paper is to evaluate the power relations which exist within the hierarchies and the workers. The Foucauldian perspective plays an important part in terms of an understanding of power, despite the fact that it is very different to fully comprehend the meanings behind Foucault s works. (McHoul and Grace, 1993, viii) A Dictionary of Political Thought (1983) commented on power as: The ability to achieve whatever effect is desired, whether or not in the face of opposition. Based on the views of the non oriental people, the Oriental people secretly want to get dominated by a stronger force, comparing them to a woman, or just simply calling their race feminine. The show M. Butterfly by David Henry Hwangis able to express different issues regarding the theory of Orientalism by hiding it amongst several conversations between characters. Gallimard is translating for Song in this passage. Song being Oriental, this line would be expected and wouldn t cause much of a point, but when Gallimard states it again in the end of the play on page 68 and it causes much more feeling out of the audience. Why is that? Gallimard is French and not Chinese. Those kinds of words aren t stereotypical of a French man, which is normally not known as the concerns of a Caucasian male, but rather an Oriental male. The aspects of Orientalism are not solely focused on the West s views of the East, but can also be the other way around. Her mouth says no, but her eyes say yes. The West thinks of itself as masculine big guns, big industry, big money so the East is feminine weak, delicate, poor, but good at art, and full of inscrutable wisdom the feminine mystique. Her mouth says no, but her eyes say yes. The West believes the East, deep down, wants to be dominated because a woman can t think for herself (62). That quote was said by Song after he officially reveals to the court that he was a man, but before he officially revealed it to Gallimard. Walden, Henry David Thoreau There are two ways that this quotation might be interpreted, one way focuses on a person s goodness, or lack of, and the other concerns benign or malicious intentions. The quotation could be interpreted to mean that it is a sadder thing for a good person to decline into immorality than for a bad person to do something wicked. This interpretation of the quote can be illustrated by the book The Picture of Dorian Gray. Dorian Gray enters the story as an enchanting, vivacious, almost cherubic youth, comparable to the beautiful Greek god Adonis. As the story progresses, Dorian gets drawn into a habit of hedonism, financial waste, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be understood that the tragedy of The Picture of Dorian Gray is that such a fair lad as Dorian could stoop so low, and the character of ?Harry?, corrupt as it is, is a constant and therefore does not invoke as much emotional response from the audience. On a similar wavelength, the quotation could also be interpreted as meaning that good intent with bad outcome is more unpleasant, or ?foul?, than malicious intent altogether. This is like comparing the Hindenburg explosion to a kamikaze?s crash. During the 1930?s, the Zeppelin industry served as a peaceful connector between Germany, other western European nations, and the United States. Though Hugo Eckener, the head of the Zeppelin company, persevered in his vision of peaceful association, the rise of Nazi dictatorship threatened the business. The spontaneous combustion of the Hindenburg Zeppelin over New Jersey caused the American public to voice misgivings about Germany?s intentions for intercontinental transportation and amplified tensions between European nations, and the zeppelin business was made to come to an end. Overall, the purpose of Zeppelins was to establish peace, and it was a fluke of chemistry that malformed their intentions into something detrimental. Officially, only 9 states out of 196 in the international arena have possession of them. Although nuclear weapons are being eliminated by states, they still hold a significant value for nations in the IR arena with a nuclear annihilation capacity. States within the international community that own nuclear arsenals are automatically feared and respected because of the status symbol they hold. Conversely, this prestige, power, and influence can also back fire on states and become a disadvantage. States can lose power in the international community by causing tensions and dividing themselves between states who don t have these nuclear advantages. France is one country in particular that resembles a superpower with nuclear capability. France has gained power in the International community through NATO due to their possession of nuclear weapons. Overall, nuclear weapons still represent a great power in the International Arena today and will continue holding that power. The ability to produce and launch dangerous, nuclear weapons help states earn a negotiation power in the international community because nuclear power is equated to political power. Furthermore, even if management lacks the intention to sell, there remain events and circumstances beyond the control of management that can force the need to sell. By measuring the changes in fair value in net income it allows the investors to know the potential effects of these events and circumstances. Critics of the fair value measurement cite the increase in volatility that it causes in net income. A distinct disadvantage to reporting the gains and losses on the income statement is that these gains and losses have not actually occurred and may not ever be realized (Proposed change..., 2009). The input surrounding the current cost method indicated that the method was not developed enough nor well defined. The board agreed and discarded the method early on in the deliberations. Those who favor amortized cost claim that it avoids some of the temporary fluctuations in net income. The arguments against amortized cost include: 1) It reflects an irrelevant historical transaction price that is not useful in current investment decisions. 2) Use of amortized cost depends on subjective impairment models that can be manipulated to smooth earnings. With all things considered, the board decided that a change in fair value being shown in net income is a more appropriate measurement for equity investments. Eugenics And The Eugenics Movement Introduction Human beings have always been interested in success, in making sure they survive, and creating new tools and technology to enable them to reach these goals. So it should come as no surprise that eugenics follows this same guideline in human history. A term originally coined by Francis Galton, first cousin to Charles Darwin, eugenicssimply means that the best people in society with the most healthy normal genes should continue to reproduce and pass on their goodness to the next generation, while the individuals with the unhealthy genes should be discouraged from having any children (Allen 2001:59). With movements beginning in the early 20th century, eugenicists and proponents of the eugenics movement, have taken particular interests in the heritability of social behaviors, implementing enforcement mechanisms such as military force, law, and forced medical procedures in order to maintain the well being of societies future generations. Although society today frowns upon many instances of eugenics in our history, it is still being practiced in the 21st century. Contemporary eugenics has become much more technologically advanced and individually focused through the means of prenatal diagnosis and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. Human nature is sinful in nature, No one has to teach a child to lie or be selfish; rather, we go to great lengths to teach children to tell the truth and put others first. Sinful behavior comes naturally. ( What is the sin nature? , 2017). C.S. Lewis wrote a series of books called The Chronicles of Narnia and in one of these named The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. C.S. Lewis weaves a wonderful tale about four children collectively called the Pevensie children who find a world unlike any other inside of a wardrobe. This exercise will be prefaced with a brief introduction to the man and his life as a segue to better understanding Frost s verse. The unexpected but unavoidable aim of this composition will be to realize that Frost s body of work is almost too sophisticated to comprehend, his manipulation of language so elusive that each reader may believe Frost is speaking only to them, as the only incontrovertible truth is the poems operate on so many levels . Introduction With the development of accounting and the occurrences of accounting scandals, such as Waste management scandal, Enron scandal, and Worldcom scandal, internal control of a company has been paid unprecedented attention. For companies, effective internal control activities can help management to prevent and detect errors or frauds from accounting system so that they can have a better operating circumstance. In 2002, the United State Congress passed Sarbanes Oxley Section (SOX) 404, which requires management to assess the effectiveness of a company s internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR) and requires external auditors to review management s assessment, and then to provide their own conclusion related to the effectiveness of the ICOFR (Choi, Kim, Kwon, Zang, 2010). The Sarbanes Oxley Section 404 indicates the rising concern about accounting scandals in businesses due to ineffective internal control systems. Internal controls of companies are to ensure the reliability of financial reporting, which are developed by companies managements, thus, if a company has deficiencies in their internal control, it will have a high risk of material misstatement over their financial reporting. Review Of Dover Beach Sage Walund Gorra Arnold s Dover Beach English 201 3/9/15 Doubt on Dover Beach: An Exploration of the Loss of Faith in the Victorian Era The Victorian age is marked by the sudden and startling changes it brought on the western world. As industrialization, intense colonization, and expanding practices of sciences abounded, the traditional ideas and ideals that had once seemed constant and true, were suddenly precarious. Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach has become quintessential to the Victorian literary canon as it is exactly this struggle with a loss of constancy and the confrontation with the unknown and uncertainty that Arnold evokes within its lines. Dover Beach explores the potential effects of these sudden shifts in culture; particularly the shift towards scientific exploration and the threat this shift had on notions of Christianity and faith. The poem acts as a grand sweeping metaphor for the ideas of constancy and doubt as it lures the reader into a sense of permanence and complacency before undermining that sense by contradicting itself and implementing mistrust; ultimately it leaves the reader with a sense that since faith is not eternal, nothing is. This metaphor is enhanced and nuanced through Arnold s interesting use of structure and sudden shifts in tone. The first stanza of Dover Beach consists of fourteen lines in iambic meter (though not iambic pentameter) with varying lengths and features a seemingly random rhyme structure of: ... Voltaire wrote in many genres, excelling at several, but in the modern era he is best remembered for his connections with the theater, his philosophical works, and his contes short adventure stories dramatizing philosophical issues. The most famous of these is Candide (1759), a satire of G. W. Leibniz s philosophy of optimism, which examined the reality and absurdity of human suffering. Profitability also increased, but not nearly at the same pace as sales revenue. Net income rose from $60,000 in 1993 to $68,000 in 1994 (a 13.3% increase), to $77,000 in 1995 (13.2% increase). Furthermore, Mr. Clarkson s buyout payments to Mr. Holtz in 1995 and 1996 only added to the liquidity predicament. The reasoning that causes one person to help may stop another from helping, whether it is time, convenience, or maybe sincerity. Throughout our history, there have been multiple studies on what makes a person more prone to help than another person. With this research study, we can decipher what makes or prevents a person from helping another. By conducting this study, we may be able to provide input for some people on why another person is more likely to help than per say, they are. Darley and LatanГ© (1968) established a study over the Kitty Genovese case from the 1960 s.
