Lesotho Research Paper
As a land locked state Lesotho is cut off from sea resources and international trade borne of the sea,
the country finds itself reliant on South Africa for access to sea ports and the international market. Due
to this geographical disposition international legal instruments exist to cushion such states and often
bilateral arrangements are drafted (Conca, 2006). These agreements come in the form of treaties with
provided the rules, norms and principles and procedures for making decisions also known as regime
theory. And since the Lesotho Highlands Water Treaty has been signed in 1986 it is necessary to look
into the sustainability of the treaty and the impact it has had. The Lesotho government maintains that

Advertising Is Protected By The First Amendment Of The...
Research: False Advertising
Advertising is protected by the First Amendment of the United States constitution. Conversely,
advertising requires less control from the First Amendment, but requires the majority of control from
the government and most importantly, the Federal Trade Commission. The Federal Trade Commission
controls the content and images that are being advertised to consumers that seem to be exaggerated or
just plain over the top. With that being said, false advertising is one of the biggest rising issues
amongst many companies, celebrities, business, and much more. False advertising is when an
individual(s) attempt to betray consumers into believing they are purchasing an absolutely amazing
product, when in reality, they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Federal Trade Commission enforces these truth in advertising laws, and it applies the same
standards no matter where an advertisement appears in newspapers and magazines, online, in the mail,
or on billboards or buses. The Federal Trade Commission does not have one clear definition, but it
does explain that companies and services are not allowed to exaggerate their content or images in
order to advertise to their consumers to purchase a specific product or service. Again, these
advertisements can be seen throughout the media as well as in the public. Another legal definition can
be found under the Lanham Act where it is defined as, Under Section 43(a) of the Lanham Act, a
claim can be made against a defendant for false or misleading advertising. For a claim against a
defendant for false advertising, the following elements are met and the plaintiff must show: (1)
defendant made false or misleading statements as to his own products (or another s); (2) actual
deception, or at least a tendency to deceive a substantial portion of the intended audience; (3)
deception is material in that it is likely to influence purchasing decisions; (4) the advertised goods
travel in interstate commerce; and (5) a likelihood of injury to plaintiff. However, the plaintiff does not
have to prove actual injury. The Lanham Act has a more specific and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hyperaccumulators
The capacity for taking the metals depends on species to species and their surrounding environment
especially microclimate. However, hyperaccumulation of the species depends on three basic features
that distinguish hyperaccumulators from related non hyperaccumulators group. Basic hallmarks are;
[a] A rapid and significant root to shoot translocation of metals
[b] A potential capability of taking up heavy metals from the soil
[c] A much greater ability to detoxify and sequester huge amounts of heavy metals in the leaves If we
compare the root to shoot translocation of heavy metals in hyperaccumulator and non
hyperaccumulator then it is found that non hyperaccumulator retain the heavy metals in root cells
taken from the contaminated sites or sludges and then detoxifying them by chelation in the cytoplasm
and then storing them into vacuoles, while in hyperaccumulaors there are rapid and effective
translocation of heavy metals takes place. It is found that large quantity of organic molecules in small
quantity is present in hyperaccumulator roots that can operate as metal binding ligands. Free amino
acids play an important role in heavy metals hyperaccumulation in plants. Such amino acids are
histidine and nicotinamine, which form stable complexes with bivalent cations (Callahan 2008). The

Mandatory Military Draft Analysis
The need for war has always been a debated point in human ideology. Countries choose to war over
money, culture, terrorism, and many other issues. During the 1965 73 America drafted 1,728,344
individuals to the Vietnam wars (National Vietnam Veterans Foundation, 10 Aug 2015). With these
escalated statistics an important question is raised on the morality of mandatory military service. This
essay will discuss the dangers of drafted military services and how it harms personal freedoms, mental
health, and it s effect on military movements and success.
Personal freedoms is something written into most democratic constitutions. The Canadian Charter of
Rights and Freedoms reads, Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the
right not to be deprived thereof... War drafting takes away this ability to live secure and to be
liberated. Especially, given that drafting is forced labor. Moreover, drafting takes away individual s
rights to practice their own ideologies. Some citizens may have to fight against their religious beliefs.
Many of which, do not coincide with war. They may also be forced into combat with the country they

A current draft would, in the same way, affect many immigrated Canadians. Canadian immigrants are
often working as unskilled laborers, sometimes with little access to education, and using their earnings
to better themselves as well as send money back to their family. This puts them in the range of
individuals who do not have education or excess money to avoid draft. Many of these individuals are
providing for large extended families, as well as their own children. This sort of draft would prohibit
these families from leaving poverty and, thereby, economically offer less taxes to the government.
Volunteered forces, in contrast, would allow the military to be made up more of single men or women
and more financially stable

Essay on Thorntons Case Study.Doc
CASE STUDY THORNTONS PLC Introduction In September 2003 Thorntons, the Uk s largest
manufacturer and retailer of specialist chocolates, completed a three year planning period aimed at
achieving a turnaround in the company s performance. While company turnover had been increased to
£167m (= €250m) providing Thorntons with an 8 percent share of its core market, boxed chocolates,
profit after tax had declined to the lowest level for seven years (Exhibit 1). During that time Thorntons
had set out to follow a series of strategic initiatives involving the reorientation of the company
towards becoming a retail focused business, increasing the scale of the company s manufacturing and
retailing operations and developments that would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The demand for Thorntons boxed chocolates follows a strongly seasonal pattern: 35 percent of sales
are in the seven week period before Christmas, a further 10 percent are for Easter, including three
million Easter eggs. The combination of providing a fresh product together with the need to meet a
seasonal pattern of demand places particular pressures upon the company s manufacturing facilities. A
proportion of the Christmas product is produced several months in advance, maintaining freshness
through chilled storage. However, Thorntons chocolates are enrobed in chocolate, rather than
moulded. Their hand made appearance makes the process of packing boxed chocolates less open to
automation than is the case for moulded chocolates (with their more uniform shape an size) produced
by companies such as Cadburys. The seasonal demand for packing staff requires the increased use of
casual workers, with consequent falls in efficiency. Seasonal demand also requires the use of
temporary staff in the retail outlets to meet a sales pattern that can within a few days increase tenfold;
typically the company sells £10m of chocolate in the last 72 hours of Christmas trading. At times the
company has sold icecream (self manufactured or bought in) as an attempt to offset the effect of low,
off season, chocolate sales. In certain respects Thorntons strategy, with its

Overview of the Swiss-Based International Organization for...
The Swiss based International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the world s largest developer
of International Standards. These standards provide specifications for products, services and practices,
regardless of type of industry. They are designed to make global trade more efficient and effective by
providing common language and criteria. Founded in 1947, the ISO has published more than 19,000
International Standards for nearly every aspect of business and technology ( About ISO, n.d.) ISO
9000 refers to a single standard of the same name. It can also refer to a set of three standards (ISO
9000, ISO 9001, and ISO 9004), all of which are referred to as quality management system standards (
ISO 9000 and ISO 9001, 2012). An organization is ISO 9000 certified when it demonstrates that it
successfully follows the ISO 9000 standards for its industry. As of 2005, there were approximately
350,000 ISO 9000 certified organizations in over one hundred fifty countries worldwide (Rouse,
2005). These numbers attest to how the Standards have been received worldwide. In a survey
conducted by Dowling College of Long Island, nearly half of ISO 9000 registered companies in the
New York City metropolitan area reported an increase in their European market share after registration

The Origin Of Diversity Within Species
According to Charles Darwin, he suggested that all organisms were descendants from a common
ancestor that was once existed in the past (Darwin 1859). As organisms share a lot of common
characteristics due to common ancestry, the history of evolution of different species can be known
through comparing how closely their genes and body structures were. The more similar those
characteristics are, the more closely related those species is. However there is a wide range of
diversity between every single species and between every single individual. Diversification allows
organisms to occupy different niches in the ecosystem. In this essay, the origin of diversity within

Origin of diversity between species
A common ancestor gave rise to all organisms on earth. However, every individual species developed
their own distinct character that allows them to play a specific role in the ecosystem. Diversity is
caused as species are being isolated by geographic barriers or by sexual selection. The diversity
between species can be present as there is a difference in the species heritable trait. Those organisms
that contain an advantageous allele that allows them to be better adapted to the environment survive
and reproduce. As a result, the advantageous allele will be inherited by the offspring and the frequency
of the advantageous allele will increase within the population. In the example of Strepsirhini, it was
one of the linages that was evolved form the earliest primates together with tarsiers (e.g. monkeys and
apes) (Hickman, et al. 2011). When Madagascar was separated from the southeast coast of Africa at
about 120million years ago, the Madagasy prosimians where separated from the rest of the population
of apes and monkeys. The Madagasy prosimians where geographically isolated form the rest of the

Beethoven Influence On Society
After taking the online Music Appreciation class it has inspired me to appreciate different musical
genres. I really enjoyed learning about the many great composers and the different eras of music that
greatly influenced our society. Music is a beautiful form of art and it is something most of us enjoy. It
can really help in many ways, such as bringing people together or it can simply help us get through
stressful situations in life. Sometimes when I am really stressed out I will listen to music to help me
relax and get my mind off things for awhile. Music has been around for thousands of years throughout
those years there has been many talented composers who have had a great influence on many
composers throughout history. In this essay I will discuss how Ludwig Van Beethoven is known to be
one of the best composers of his time and how the classical period was a moment in musical history
that I found to be very fascinating. I will also discuss how Music Appreciation has changed the way I
apperceive and appreciate the varieties of music throughout history.
Ludwig van Beethoven

the new romantic music. Beethoven was able to express his deep emotions rather than just being

There are many foods in our diets today that are filled with sugar or unneccesary things that we eat
and we are unaware of. Our diets should be consisted of lots of vegetables and protein to be able to
live healthier and not having things such as too much oil or sugar and salt in our diets. Another
important strategy to use is to make sure not to overeat. According to an article on Health.com
research had been done in Japan and what they realized was that they would only eat until they were
80 percent full. This helps them live longer and live healthier without feeling overstuffed with food.
To eating better you must able to see your food and that would be very difficult if you are watching
T.V. or your laptop while you are eating. Eating a meal with people and communicating is a very good
way to be able to both connect with people as well as eating slower and realizing you are full quicker (
9 Ways To Live Longer ). In conclusion, living a healthy lifestyle takes time and effort however it is
achievable once you start. A healthy lifestyle includes understanding the important and healthy foods
that you should eat as well as exercising and being active daily. Once you live a healthier lifestyle the

Valuation of AirThread Connections
In early December 2007, Robert Zimmerman, senior vice president of business development for
American Cable Communications (ACC), was in his office sifting through a number of investment
banking proposals related to potential acquisition targets when he paused to consider the recent
presentation made by Rubinstein Ross (R R).
Rubinstein Ross was a boutique investment bank with a strong reputation for doing deals in the media
and telecommunications sector. During that meeting, Elliot Bianco pitched the idea of
American Cable buying out AirThread Connections, a large regional cellular provider. The basic

In addition to the strategic fit, R R believed that it could obtain a significant amount of debt financing
for an AirThread acquisition. Bianco was confident that the high quality of AirThread s network
assets, its valuable wireless spectrum licenses, and its steady cash flow would merit a debt to value
ratio as high as 45% to 50% based on EBITDA coverage ratios exceeding 5.0x.1
American Cable Communications
In December of 2007, American Cable Communications (ACC) was one of the largest cable operators
in the United States. The company s cable systems passed roughly 48.5 million homes and served
approximately 24.1 million video subscribers, 13.2 million high speed internet subscribers, and 4.6
million landline telephony subscribers. Consolidated revenue for 2007 was expected to be
$30.9 billion with net income of $2.6 billion.
Overview of Cable Industry Dynamics
The cable industry had been rapidly transforming over the last decade as a result of advances in
technology, changes in regulation, and shifts in competitive dynamics. In turn, these forces had been
driving large investments in network infrastructure that require commensurate increases in the
customer base to effectively utilize the new capacity. It was this need to acquire economies of scale
and scope that led American Cable s executives to believe that only a handful of very large network
providers would survive into the

A number of recent twin studies have shown that our genes, to a surprising extent, influence behavior.
Even matters that naturally seem to be a reflection of one s personal experiences, such as political
stance or religious views, have been proven by various studies to be largely controlled by genetics
(Times Higher Education, 1997). Researchers at the University of Minnesota launched the Minnesota
Twin Family Study in 1979, in which over a period of 20 years, they studied 137 pairs of twins 81 of
which were identical. Through this study, researchers found that about 70% of IQ variation across the

In this paper we present a variant of the Small Open Economy Dynamic Stochastic General
Equilibrium Model (SOE DSGE) and empirically validate it using quarterly data for Sri Lanka
(1999Q1 2013Q4). The SOE DSGE model incorporates low exchange rate pass through dynamics and
thereby departs in a significant manner from the canonical closed economy New Keynesian DSGE
model which has become the work horse of monetary policy design by modern central banks. The
empirical validation of the SOE DSGE model in the paper using Bayesian estimation techniques
provides insights that would enable the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to advance its reform agenda to

The Point Behind the Pointe
Nothing compares to that moment when a dance teacher gives permission for a dancer to purchase

In regards to the beginner student, should they be placed en pointe too young or before they have

Throughout the play Shakespeare uses the wittiness of the numerous characters taking part in the
performance to demonstrate his fondness of using puns, sexual innuendos and creating double
meanings. Puns, sexual innuendos and double meanings can be a technique of deception, the title
Much Ado About Nothing being the very first example. This is due to the way Shakespeare plays with
the word nothing in the title Much Ado About Nothing . In the late 16th century the word nothing
would have been pronounced noting Thus, the play s title could read: Much Ado About Noting .
Already Shakespeare hints that there might be a double meaning involving the word nothing . Without
a doubt many of the players participate in the actions of observing, listening and writing, or noting.
Also, in Shakespeare s period, a thing referred to a man s genitals, so therefore the word no thing may

Dream Should Be Seen As A Prophecy
Dreaming is something that everyone does, even if you don t remember it. Throughout history there
have been many theories about dreams. One of them was that dream should be seen as a message
coming from outside individual, mostly from God like creatures. And another theory is that dream
should be seen as a prophecy, being able to tell us what awaits for us in the future. These theories are
prescientific so today we don t view dreams this way. Freud then came along and proposed that
dreams reflect a conflict between the unconscious desires and the conscious mind. So, dreams are
mostly an expression of unconscious wishes as well as being sleep preserving (Olsen, 2016, p. 159).
Despite all these theories of what dreams are, what is the actual reason we have dreams, why do we
remember some and forget some, and what are lucid dreams?
What Causes Dreaming In the 1970s, a man named John Hobson developed a theory called the
activation synthesis theory. It explain that dreams are fabricated by the cortex as a means of
interpreting chaotic signals from the pond. In other words dreams have no meaning and they are
merely a result of a random chemical messaging in the brain coming from the brainstem. (Olsen,
2016, p. 159). However, a man named Mark Solms later disprove the activation synthesis theory
showing that even in patients who have damaged their brain stems, they still have dreams. So it ruled
out Hobson s hypothesis that dreams originate from the brain stem. Rapid eye

Invasion Of The United States
The decision to invade Iraq was perhaps the largest foreign policy blunder in modern Western history.
Its immense cost in the thousands of lives lost, trillions of dollars spent, and an unquantifiable amount
of political capital squandered represents an immense failure at many levels of government. Today,
even though Saddam Hussein s dictatorship and security state have been dismantled, Iraq remains
ruined: its economy is in shambles, sectarian strife is rampant, and the Islamic State, a terrorist army,
controls much of the northern and western parts of the nation. Iraq is a state in name only. In her
memoir The Unraveling documenting her experiences in Iraq, Professor Emma Sky argues that to
identify who is responsible for this failure, blame cannot be placed on just one actor. Both Western
policymaking blunders from the marginalization of experts to de Baathification to the support of
Nouri al Maliki and Iraqi politicians self serving agendas acted in concert to exacerbate the
sectarianism that ultimately tore the country apart. The first mistake the Western architects of the war
made was to invade at all. The decision itself was based on false premises that Iraq had weapons of
mass destruction, that the US would be greeted as liberators, and that the war would be swift and
successful. Sky characterizes the war as a modern day Crusade of ideologues and idealists and the
ignorance, arrogance and naivety (128). The architects of the war from President George Bush to

How Much Power Should the American Government Yield
A dispute widespread amongst the citizens of the United States of America is on government, and
more specifically on how much power the government should yield. The philosophical question I will
be posing in this article is what should the government have the power to do . All the way to the left,
we have liberals who believe in a big government and a government that is involved with supporting
the people and curbing social inequalities and social hierarchy while supporting social equality. On the
other side of the spectrum we have right wing conservatives who prefer a government that is small and
call for reduced social spending, less regulation. In addition, they accept social hierarchy and social
inequality citing that social hierarchy and social inequality are inevitable. With this essay, I want to
focus on if the government has the power to invade your privacy. Currently reactions has been wild
ever since former NSA analyst Edward Snowden leaked the massive PRISM internet surveillance
program used by the NSA to collect data on citizens of the U.S. The philosophical question what
should the government have the power to do correlates with the NSA because the NSA is an institution
of the government, and should the government have the power to spy on its citizens without their
knowledge and without a warrant for the sake of national security. Foucault goes through the way
governments have attempted to control populations throughout history, and how power has exercised

Essay on Karl Marx s Estranged Labor
Karl Marx s Estranged Labor In Karl Marx s early writing on estranged labor there is a clear and
prevailing focus on the plight of the laborer. Marx s writing on estranged labor is an attempt to draw a
stark distinction between property owners and workers. In the writing Marx argues that the worker
becomes estranged from his labor because he is not the recipient of the product he creates. As a result
labor is objectified, that is labor becomes the object of mans existence. As labor is objectified man
becomes disillusioned and enslaved. Marx argues that man becomes to be viewed as a commodity
worth only the labor he creates and man is further reduced to a subsisting animal void of any capacity
of freedom except the will to labor. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argues that this situation is analogous to a man and his religion. Marx writes, The more man puts
into God the less he retains in himself....The worker puts his life into the object, but now his life no
longer belongs to him but to the object. The result of the worker belonging to the object is that he is
enslaved. The worker belongs to something else and his actions are dictated by that thing. For Marx,
labor turns man into a means. Workers become nothing more than the capital necessary to produce a
product. Labor for Marx reduces man to a means of production. As a means of production man is
diminished to a subsisting enslaved creature void of his true nature. In this condition he is reduced to
the most detrimental state of man: one in which he is estranged from himself. To help expand on this
theme it is useful to look at Marx s allegory of man s life activity. Of the variety of reasons Marx
argues man is estranged from his labor, probably the most significant is his belief that labor estranges
man from himself. Marx argues that the labor the worker produces does not belong to the worker so in
essence the worker does not belong to the worker. By virtue of this condition Marx argues the worker
is enslaved. Enslavement for Marx is a condition alien to man and he becomes estranged from
himself. For Marx, man estranged from himself is stripped of his very nature. Not only because

Anita Desai, A Modern Indo English Writer Essay
INTRODUCTION
Anita Desai, a noteworthy woman novelist, is a modern Indo English writer, widely acclaimed not
only in India but also in the world of fiction writing. She emerged after independence, deliberating on
the highly debatable contemporary issues. Anita Desai is a keen observer of the society and the
position of the women in the contemporary society draws her special attention. The novels of Anita
Desai are noted for the profound probing into the inner life and feelings of the women, bounded by the
shackles of the middle class. They are the explorations of the family problems, which perhaps is the
chief cause behind the estrangement of the women from their family. Literature for her is not a means
of escaping reality but an exploration and an inquiry. She prefers the private to the public world and
avoids the traditional grooves of external reality and physical world. In fact, her real concern is the
thorough investigation of human psyche, inner climate, and she unravels the mystery of the inner life
of her characters. Her main engagement is to study human existence and human predicament, her
exploration being a quest for self. Anita s main focus, in this way, is to depict the psychic states of her
protagonists at some crucial juncture of their lives.
The uniqueness of Anita Desai s fiction, however, lies in her exploration of feminine sensibility. In
Desai s novels, the love encounters explode into marital disputes as the result of devastating post

Descriptive Essay About Eddie Van Halen
For as long as I can remember, my dad always had his music playing. In the car, in the house,
everywhere. In time, his music became my music; and it still is. Though my dad s music taste was
vast, his staple was Van Halen. Little did I know how much that band would shape me as a person.
While most fans were in love with David Lee Roth, (the singer) I was all about Eddie Van Halen; the
greatest guitarist in the world. The greatest because to me, he isn t just a guitarist. He s an innovator, a
genius, and one of my biggest role models. While I think all art is powerful, it s all subjective, and to
me, Eddie Van Halen is the perfect example to why art is so powerful. For he has created the passion,
perseverance, and creativity that lives inside me today.
From the moment I heard the majestic scream of Eddie Van Halen s guitar, I knew I had to learn how
to play guitar. I was but only a listener at the time, but the passion of a musician budded within me,
and locked my vicarious attention on every note. The more I listened to Van Halen, the more I wanted
to stop being a listener, and start being a creator. It was like some insane urge came over me every
time I listened to them telling me to create something. It was a musical high.
I got my first guitar when I was 11 years old. (When the addiction began) Even though I wasn t very
good, each new thing I learned, pushed me to learn more. No amount of skills and knowledge was
enough, and it still isn t. The more I learned, the

Battle Of Troy Essay
The Battle of Troy was historic battle that changed the way we safeguard our military bases and
equipment. Many lessons were learned from the events leading to the fall of the Trojan army. The
Trojan War between the Greeks and Trojans took place in the city of Troy during the Bronze Era. This
was the first successful deception event conducted by an army and led the Greeks to seize and destroy
the city of Troy. The elaborate plan consisted of concealing Greek soldiers inside of a large wooden
horse and offer it to the Trojans as a gift with the intent of gaining access into the city of Troy. Once
inside soldiers were to unlock the heavily fortified gates, which the Greek army was unable to
penetrate, so the Greek soldiers could gain access ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was battle that was part of a ten year war between the Greek and the Trojan Army. According to
Homer s Iliad, the battle lasted 53 days in the final year of a ten year conflict. The war was a result of
a personal feud between the Trojan prince Paris, also known as Alexandros and Menealaos, King of
Sparta and brother of Agamenon. The Greeks and Menealaos wanted to reclaim Helen, wife of
Menealaos, as Alexandro had kidnaped her as a prize for choosing Aphrodite as the most beautiful
goddess in a beauty competition. (Cartwright, 2013) In this battle an enormous wooden Trojan horse
was left behind as an offering to the Trojans, however it had Greek soldiers hiding inside. The Trojans
were surprised by the offering and never saw the deception plan unraveling. The wooden horse was
brought into the city of Troy opening the fortified gates of Troy to the Greeks, which they had been
unable to penetrate. This allowed the Greek soldiers to invade Troy and eventually burn and destroy
the city and end the war. This was the first recorded deception technique used by an Army. During this
era the use of intelligence tactics was not developed yet. The use of Human and Counter Intelligence
to gather information about the possible use of this deception technique would have made a
remarkable difference on how the war could have ended. The Trojan Army could have also
implemented security measures in order to investigate any items entering their fortified City of

Compare And Contrast Salem Witch Trials And Bacon s Rebellion
The Salem Witch Trials and Bacon s Rebellion both reflected economic class tension in their
respective colonies. The purpose of Bacon s rebellion was not to overthrow the social and political
order of Virginia, but rather secure economic opportunity. During the second half century, Virginia s
quality of life was improving; the maturation of apple orchards eliminated the consumption of dirty
water, ships were bringing in new servants at a healthy time of year, and indentured servants were
finally serving out their periods of indenture. Despite the improvement in quality of life, Virginia s
economy was on rocky ground for the poor. The government was being controlled by men using it to
gain wealth, leaving the colonist with low cost tobacco and high taxes. In addition to the economy
forcing ordinary planters and merchants to lower ranks of society, there was no good land in Virginia

rather than protecting the frontier from attacks. The rebels decided to take matters into their own

A Research On Enterprise Risk Management Essay
America s former president, Theodore Roosevelt, said, Risk is like fire: If controlled it will help you;
if uncontrolled it will rise up and destroy you. This comparison of fire and risk remains true for
political means but also the everyday operations of any company. A company is confronted with
decisions demanding the assessment of risk every day. Enterprise risk management is a framework for
handling the assessment of risk that companies may encounter. The enterprise risk management
process is a formula for employees and managers to follow to help manage risk. Due to the
involvement of employees and managers to complete the enterprise risk management framework there
is also important key organizational behavior themes that influence the effectiveness of the
framework. Trevor Levine, a highly regarded risk management and process improvement consultant,
said, Risk management is about the people and processes and not about models and technology. This
statement emphasizes the importance of the people and their interactions rather than the formulaic
aspect of enterprise risk management which is often the only aspect of the framework that is given
attention. There are organizational behavior themes present and necessary in the enterprise risk
management framework that allow for the framework to be effectively and positively applied.
Enterprise risk management was not a well known concept in the corporate world just ten years ago,
but today most insurance companies and

Themes Of Love In La Belle Dame Sans Merci
How do different Poets express different attitudes to Romantic Marriage in La Belle Dame sans Merci

The theme and idea of the unforgiving tides of love is presented in a range of ways throughout the
poems in the anthology. The poets all choose to build their stories around this subject while each
choose to approach this from different perspectives and stances. La Belle Dame sans Merci focuses on
the idea of unreciprocated love; reflecting William Keat s personal feud against the pains of love.

The ballad adopts a unique stanza structure that shortens the last line of every quatrain which creates
an abrupt change in rhythm, helping keep the reader focused. The result is the first three lines of every
quatrain being written in Iambic tetrameter in which a line contains four feet, with the stress falling
upon the first syllable in each pair as opposed to the Iambic dimeter in the fourth line which contains
two feet with the stress falling upon the first syllable in each pair for instance, Fast withereth too. , in
line 12 . This is intended to help enhance the flow of the poem by forcing the reader to conform to the
rhythm. The differentiation in the fourth line is used by Keats to create a feeling of emptiness and
suspense. This is used by Keats to emphasize the lovesick and sore feelings of the knight to the reader.
In contrast, Robert Browning s My Last Duchess is written in the form of a monologue through
Iambic Pentameter. The monologue is one entity divided only by the rhyming couplets. However, the
flow and rhyme is partially sacrificed because of there is so much enjambment. Browning uses this
format in order to emphasize the themes presented. For instance in line 31, Or blush, at least. She
thanked men good! but thanked , where but thanked is a continuation of the phrase she thanked men
good . Browning uses this format in My Last Duchess

individuals present functioning (Butman, Jones, 2011, 140). Internal objects are the most important
because they influence the individuals self, relationships they engage in, and the attachment these
individuals form within those relationships (Murdock, 2013, 83). These internal objects determine
how we relate to people (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). Internalized objects also represent how
individuals view themselves (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). When an individual is nurtured and

This results in the N terminal regulatory domain of BRAF being replaced, leading to constitutively
enhanced kinase activity (21). Five separate KIAA1549 BRAF fusion configurations were originally
described including between exons 16;9, 15;9, 16;11, 18;10, and 19;9 in order of prevalence (19).
Fusions involving FAM131B and SRGAP3 with BRAF resulting in similar kinase activation have also
been described, although at significantly lower frequencies (21, 22). Subsequent findings showed that
RAS MAPK activation through BRAF fusions are present in both grade I and grade II malignancies,

pLGG has been shown to aid in tumor diagnosis (28), predict clinical outcome (29, 30), and dictate

The most prevalent and easily identifiable technique is his use of symbolism. Like previously
mentioned, the novel is series of short stories; each referencing a certain thing each soldier of the

role in the war. The role, according to O Brien, to march for the sake of the march (O Brien).
According to an interview by Jack Smith, Tim O Brien states that My hope was that by imposing

Landscape Of Africville Analysis
Through exploring everyday life, geography is an essential discipline that is a central part of our
understandings of the world around us. An important part of geography deals with the relationship
between human activity and the physical aspects of where this activity takes place (Bryan, 1958). It is
important to then consider that these physical aspects can often be viewed as landscapes within our
society. The concept of landscape plays an important part within geography and this is a term that has
been associated with a way of seeing the natural world (Cosgrove, 1984). From a geographical

However, hyperaccumulation of the species depends on three basic features that distinguish hyperaccumulators from related non hyperaccumulators group. Basic hallmarks are; [a] A rapid and significant root to shoot translocation of metals [b] A potential capability of taking up heavy metals from the soil [c] A much greater ability to detoxify and sequester huge amounts of heavy metals in the leaves If we compare the root to shoot translocation of heavy metals in hyperaccumulator and non hyperaccumulator then it is found that non hyperaccumulator retain the heavy metals in root cells taken from the contaminated sites or sludges and then detoxifying them by chelation in the cytoplasm and then storing them into vacuoles, while in hyperaccumulaors there are rapid and effective translocation of heavy metals takes place. It is found that large quantity of organic molecules in small quantity is present in hyperaccumulator roots that can operate as metal binding ligands. During the 1965 73 America drafted 1,728,344 individuals to the Vietnam wars (National Vietnam Veterans Foundation, 10 Aug 2015). With these escalated statistics an important question is raised on the morality of mandatory military service. This essay will discuss the dangers of drafted military services and how it harms personal freedoms, mental health, and it s effect on military movements and success. Personal freedoms is something written into most democratic constitutions. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms reads, Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof... War drafting takes away this ability to live secure and to be liberated. Especially, given that drafting is forced labor. Many of these individuals are providing for large extended families, as well as their own children. The demand for Thorntons boxed chocolates follows a strongly seasonal pattern: 35 percent of sales are in the seven week period before Christmas, a further 10 percent are for Easter, including three million Easter eggs. The combination of providing a fresh product together with the need to meet a seasonal pattern of demand places particular pressures upon the company s manufacturing facilities. A proportion of the Christmas product is produced several months in advance, maintaining freshness through chilled storage. However, Thorntons chocolates are enrobed in chocolate, rather than moulded. Their hand made appearance makes the process of packing boxed chocolates less open to automation than is the case for moulded chocolates (with their more uniform shape an size) produced by companies such as Cadburys. The seasonal demand for packing staff requires the increased use of casual workers, with consequent falls in efficiency. Seasonal demand also requires the use of temporary staff in the retail outlets to meet a sales pattern that can within a few days increase tenfold; typically the company sells £10m of chocolate in the last 72 hours of Christmas trading. One of them was that dream should be seen as a message coming from outside individual, mostly from God like creatures. And another theory is that dream should be seen as a prophecy, being able to tell us what awaits for us in the future. These theories are prescientific so today we don t view dreams this way. Freud then came along and proposed that dreams reflect a conflict between the unconscious desires and the conscious mind. So, dreams are mostly an expression of unconscious wishes as well as being sleep preserving (Olsen, 2016, p. 159). Despite all these theories of what dreams are, what is the actual reason we have dreams, why do we remember some and forget some, and what are lucid dreams? What Causes Dreaming In the 1970s, a man named John Hobson developed a theory called the activation synthesis theory. It explain that dreams are fabricated by the cortex as a means of interpreting chaotic signals from the pond. In other words dreams have no meaning and they are merely a result of a random chemical messaging in the brain coming from the brainstem. (Olsen, 2016, p. 159). However, a man named Mark Solms later disprove the activation synthesis theory showing that even in patients who have damaged their brain stems, they still have dreams. Its immense cost in the thousands of lives lost, trillions of dollars spent, and an unquantifiable amount of political capital squandered represents an immense failure at many levels of government. Today, even though Saddam Hussein s dictatorship and security state have been dismantled, Iraq remains ruined: its economy is in shambles, sectarian strife is rampant, and the Islamic State, a terrorist army, controls much of the northern and western parts of the nation. Iraq is a state in name only. In her memoir The Unraveling documenting her experiences in Iraq, Professor Emma Sky argues that to identify who is responsible for this failure, blame cannot be placed on just one actor. Both Western policymaking blunders from the marginalization of experts to de Baathification to the support of Nouri al Maliki and Iraqi politicians self serving agendas acted in concert to exacerbate the sectarianism that ultimately tore the country apart. The first mistake the Western architects of the war made was to invade at all. The decision itself was based on false premises that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, that the US would be greeted as liberators, and that the war would be swift and successful. Marx s writing on estranged labor is an attempt to draw a stark distinction between property owners and workers. In the writing Marx argues that the worker becomes estranged from his labor because he is not the recipient of the product he creates. As a result labor is objectified, that is labor becomes the object of mans existence. As labor is objectified man becomes disillusioned and enslaved. Marx writes, The more man puts into God the less he retains in himself....The worker puts his life into the object, but now his life no longer belongs to him but to the object. The result of the worker belonging to the object is that he is enslaved. The worker belongs to something else and his actions are dictated by that thing. For Marx, labor turns man into a means. Workers become nothing more than the capital necessary to produce a product. Labor for Marx reduces man to a means of production. As a means of production man is diminished to a subsisting enslaved creature void of his true nature. In this condition he is reduced to the most detrimental state of man: one in which he is estranged from himself. To help expand on this theme it is useful to look at Marx s allegory of man s life activity. Of the variety of reasons Marx argues man is estranged from his labor, probably the most significant is his belief that labor estranges man from himself. Marx argues that the labor the worker produces does not belong to the worker so in essence the worker does not belong to the worker. By virtue of this condition Marx argues the worker is enslaved. Enslavement for Marx is a condition alien to man and he becomes estranged from himself. For Marx, man estranged from himself is stripped of his very nature. Not only because ... • 25. Anita Desai, A Modern Indo English Writer Essay INTRODUCTION Anita Desai, a noteworthy woman novelist, is a modern Indo English writer, widely acclaimed not only in India but also in the world of fiction writing. She emerged after independence, deliberating on the highly debatable contemporary issues. Anita Desai is a keen observer of the society and the position of the women in the contemporary society draws her special attention. The novels of Anita Desai are noted for the profound probing into the inner life and feelings of the women, bounded by the shackles of the middle class. They are the explorations of the family problems, which perhaps is the chief cause behind the estrangement of the women from their family. Literature for her is not a means of escaping reality but an exploration and an inquiry. She prefers the private to the public world and avoids the traditional grooves of external reality and physical world. In fact, her real concern is the thorough investigation of human psyche, inner climate, and she unravels the mystery of the inner life of her characters. Her main engagement is to study human existence and human predicament, her exploration being a quest for self. Anita s main focus, in this way, is to depict the psychic states of her protagonists at some crucial juncture of their lives. The uniqueness of Anita Desai s fiction, however, lies in her exploration of feminine sensibility. In Desai s novels, the love encounters explode into marital disputes as the result of devastating post marriage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Descriptive Essay About Eddie Van Halen For as long as I can remember, my dad always had his music playing. In the car, in the house, everywhere. In time, his music became my music; and it still is. Though my dad s music taste was vast, his staple was Van Halen. Little did I know how much that band would shape me as a person. While most fans were in love with David Lee Roth, (the singer) I was all about Eddie Van Halen; the greatest guitarist in the world. The greatest because to me, he isn t just a guitarist. He s an innovator, a genius, and one of my biggest role models. While I think all art is powerful, it s all subjective, and to me, Eddie Van Halen is the perfect example to why art is so powerful. For he has created the passion, perseverance, and creativity that lives inside me today. From the moment I heard the majestic scream of Eddie Van Halen s guitar, I knew I had to learn how to play guitar. I was but only a listener at the time, but the passion of a musician budded within me, and locked my vicarious attention on every note. The more I listened to Van Halen, the more I wanted to stop being a listener, and start being a creator. It was like some insane urge came over me every time I listened to them telling me to create something. It was a musical high. I got my first guitar when I was 11 years old. The elaborate plan consisted of concealing Greek soldiers inside of a large wooden horse and offer it to the Trojans as a gift with the intent of gaining access into the city of Troy. It was battle that was part of a ten year war between the Greek and the Trojan Army. According to Homer s Iliad, the battle lasted 53 days in the final year of a ten year conflict. The war was a result of a personal feud between the Trojan prince Paris, also known as Alexandros and Menealaos, King of Sparta and brother of Agamenon. The Greeks and Menealaos wanted to reclaim Helen, wife of Menealaos, as Alexandro had kidnaped her as a prize for choosing Aphrodite as the most beautiful goddess in a beauty competition. (Cartwright, 2013) In this battle an enormous wooden Trojan horse was left behind as an offering to the Trojans, however it had Greek soldiers hiding inside. The Trojans were surprised by the offering and never saw the deception plan unraveling. The wooden horse was brought into the city of Troy opening the fortified gates of Troy to the Greeks, which they had been unable to penetrate. This allowed the Greek soldiers to invade Troy and eventually burn and destroy the city and end the war. This was the first recorded deception technique used by an Army. During this era the use of intelligence tactics was not developed yet. The use of Human and Counter Intelligence to gather information about the possible use of this deception technique would have made a remarkable difference on how the war could have ended. The purpose of Bacon s rebellion was not to overthrow the social and political order of Virginia, but rather secure economic opportunity. During the second half century, Virginia s quality of life was improving; the maturation of apple orchards eliminated the consumption of dirty water, ships were bringing in new servants at a healthy time of year, and indentured servants were finally serving out their periods of indenture. Despite the improvement in quality of life, Virginia s economy was on rocky ground for the poor. The government was being controlled by men using it to gain wealth, leaving the colonist with low cost tobacco and high taxes. The rebels decided to take matters into their own hands and declared war on all Native Americans. This comparison of fire and risk remains true for political means but also the everyday operations of any company. A company is confronted with decisions demanding the assessment of risk every day. Enterprise risk management is a framework for handling the assessment of risk that companies may encounter. The enterprise risk management process is a formula for employees and managers to follow to help manage risk. Due to the involvement of employees and managers to complete the enterprise risk management framework there is also important key organizational behavior themes that influence the effectiveness of the framework. Trevor Levine, a highly regarded risk management and process improvement consultant, said, Risk management is about the people and processes and not about models and technology. This statement emphasizes the importance of the people and their interactions rather than the formulaic aspect of enterprise risk management which is often the only aspect of the framework that is given attention. Examining Sherene Razack s (2002) term, a white settler society , we are able to gain an understanding that the province of Nova Scotia took part in being a white settler society in relation to the Africville community. According to Razack (2002), aspects of a white settler society take place when there is a racial hierarchy present and spaces are organized to maintain unequal social relations. The landscape of this community was structured in this way because the community was predominately of black individuals and therefore the inhabitants were not regarded as being an important part of the city. This can be demonstrated through the ways in which the community of Africville was treated by the government of Nova Scotia. For instance, during the time that Africville was present, this community was denied of essential services in which Nelson (2000) explains, requests for water lines and sewerage which would bring sanitation and quality of life closer to the standards for the rest of the city were refused. Police and fire protection and garbage collection on par with such services received by the rest of Halifax were denied. Living conditions were ironically described by city officials as intolerable and unsanitary (p. 166). Thus, the landscape of Africville was associated with being regarded as a slum within the society of Nova Scotia. A slum is referred to as filthy, foul smelling, wretched, rancorous, uncultivated and lacking care (Nelson, 2000, p. 168). What is important to take into consideration however, is that the community of Africville was racialized against which resulted in the landscape being viewed as a slum. In addition, the government not only denied the community access to basic necessities needed in order to maintain a healthy environment, but continued to further racialize this community by placing a ...
