a kid growing up and was never satisfied or proud with anything Amir did. Another
character trait shown by Baba is his patriotism when he took a handful of
Afghanistan soil and kept it before going to America. Baba is also a very brave
man as he stood up for the woman wearing the black shawl when the Russian
soldier wanted to rape her, risking his life in the process. When Baba refused
chemotherapy and the food stamps, it shows that he a very proud man and
wouldn t want to be seen as weak. Last but not least, Baba is a loving man.
Although it didn t seem as so, Baba did love Amir and even Hassan. He helped
Amir ask for Soraya s hand in marriage and he never forgot Hassan s birthday.
Furthermore, Baba is a forgiving person as he forgives Hassan for supposedly
stealing Amir s birthday presents. Baba portrays the character that drives the
protagonist, Amir to strive to be better in everything in order to gain some
appreciation.

Christmas Carol Comparison
When Christmas time is nearing, some people like to sit next to cozy fires and
watch movies, read books, or sing songs. People who do this mostly read or watch
or sing timeless Christmas classics, like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the
Cricket on the Hearth, or It s a Wonderful Life. Among these Classics is a piece
called A Christmas Carol, which has had written and film adaptations. There are
many similarities and differences between these two versions. Today I will be
presenting the similarities and differences between the 2009 CGI Movie by Disney
and a version of the original Book by Charles Dickens. I will also be presenting my
opinion on which is better.
At the beginning of A Christmas Carol, the corpse of Jacob Marley is shown. The
narrator starts talking about his sad death. In the movie, Bob Cratchit is the
narrator, while, in the book, a group of narrators narrate the story. Some versions of
A Christmas Carol even have the ghost of Jacob Marley narrating the story! It is
revealed that Marley was the business partner of Ebenezer Scrooge, a grouchy, cheap,
old wiser. After the weakest excuse of a mourn, Scrooge went back to work. The
book reveals what what Scrooge does to others and vice versa. Afterwards, a bit of
the town is revealed. The movie does the revealing the other way around, with the
town first, followed by others and Scrooge. When Scrooge enters his work place,
there is a time jump to 7 years later. The sign to their workplace still has the name

Otherside Macklemore We live on the cusp of death thinking that it won t be us,
(l.32). Macklemore is saying that people think that they will not die from doing
drugs. In this song Macklemore is stating that drugs can be really addictive also he
states that drugs can really mess you up and how media influences you to do drugs,
for example rappers like Lil Waynewhich he talks about in this song and Wiz Kalifa.
Strong poetic devices permeate throughout Macklemore s song Otherside for
example he uses allusions, repetition and end rhyme. An example of a poetic device
that Macklemore uses in this song is allusion. One allusion Macklemore uses is

He is also saying to keep him on this high of making his music instead of using
drugs to get high. Macklemore uses repetition in his songs to help emphasize what
he is talking about. One other poetic device that Macklemore uses in his song is
end rhyme. One form of end rhyme in his song would be, there s no way to glorify
this pavement/ syrup, Percocet, hit an eight a day will leave you broke depressed
and emotionally vacant, (ll.45 46). The rhyme in this line would be pavement and
vacant which is also a forced rhyme. He also states that if you become addicted to
drugs you can go broke, go into a type of depression and become emotionally
vacant in other words destroy you. Another use of end rhyme in this song would
be, surprise, you know the drill/ trapped in a box, to climb record sales/ follow the
formula violence, drugs and sex sells/ so we try to sound like someone else (ll.40
43). In this line the words that would rhyme would be sales, sells, and else.
Macklemore is also stating the fakeness of today s rappers who tend to rap about
drugs and things they haven t done when they should be rapping about their lives and
struggles they have been through. Macklemore uses end rhyme to tie in certain lines
that should be read together. Media can really affect how someone thinks or looks at
drugs and Macklemore helps explain this trough this song by using allusions,
repetitions, and end rhyme. This also applies to my life by
