Dialogue In An Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of "Dialogue in an Essay" is a task that demands a delicate
balance of various elements. The intricacy lies in not just presenting a discussion but doing so in
a way that adds value and depth to the overall narrative. Incorporating dialogue into an essay
requires a keen understanding of when, where, and how to use it effectively.
One of the challenges is maintaining the flow of the essay while seamlessly integrating dialogue.
It's essential to ensure that conversations are not forced, but rather contribute to the coherence
and development of the central ideas. Striking the right balance between narrative and dialogue
is an art that necessitates careful consideration.
Furthermore, the challenge extends to the choice of dialogue itself. Crafting authentic and
engaging conversations that mirror real-life interactions requires a nuanced understanding of
language, tone, and context. Ensuring that each dialogue serves a purpose in advancing the
essay's thesis or supporting arguments adds another layer of complexity.
Additionally, one must grapple with the rules of punctuation and formatting specific to dialogue,
adhering to established conventions while also allowing for creativity and expression. Striking
the right balance between clarity and stylistic innovation can be a demanding task.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the intricacies of incorporating dialogue poses a considerable
challenge, demanding a blend of storytelling finesse, linguistic precision, and a keen awareness
of the essay's overarching purpose. It's an exercise in weaving words effectively, making sure
that every spoken line contributes meaningfully to the overall narrative. Yet, with careful
consideration and dedication, one can navigate these challenges to create an essay that not only
explores the nuances of dialogue but also exemplifies effective written communication.

Women And Jews By Simone De Beauvoir And Jean-Paul
Sartre
From the continental European perspective shared by Simone de Beauvoir and
Jean Paul Sartre, two groups would have stood out as the most historically
marginalized; women and Jews. For much of European history, both Jewish people
and women were denied the rights and privileges afforded to even the least
privileged Christian men. They could not hold their own lands, were barred from
all but a select few professions, and lived with the constant threat of organized
violence ready to be turned against them if they ever stepped out of line. In a sense,
both woman and Jew are used as an other for their outgroups, male and Gentile
respectively, to define themselves apart from. Accordingly de Beauvoir and Sartre
manage to illustrate substantial similarities between the two groups in their
respective analyses that greatly affect their ultimate treatment, even as through their
limited scope and personal biases. Chiefly among these similarities is how both
the idea of woman and Jew are created classes, social constructs made in bad faith.
While there will obviously be female humans and Jewish people, the identities of
woman and Jew exist only because those who were not female and Jewish have
labeled them as such. If the Jew did not exist, writes Sartre in Anti Semite and Jew,
the anti Semite would invent him. (8) However, one key difference exists between
the two: Jewspresent a hidden and existential threat to their foes that women never
will. Even the most strident opponent
Lack Of Prime Ministerial Power In Canada
A topic of much debate in many political systems is how much power the head of
state, or in some cases such as in constitutional monarchies, the head of government
holds. If the leader holds too much power, the political process becomes
undemocratic. Conversely if the leader has too little power, government becomes
inefficient, sometimes crippling the government completely for their terms in office.
In Canada, this can be seen in the effectiveness of a majority or minority
government, and the abilities of the Prime Minister in each case. In the latter case,
many believe that lack of prime ministerial power is attributed to the trend of
ineffective minority governments because of the ability for motions of non
confidence to be passed, forcing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due to the nature of the inability to pass legislation without compromise
between all parties forming the current government. Although compromise is at the
center of responsible government, the inability to produce effective legislation and
to govern efficiently because of the need of compromise between varying political
parties also limits the ability of governments to provide their obligations to the
citizens who placed them in power. These periods of governance tend to revolve
around a constant power struggle over a single issue, rather than focusing on the
larger affairs at hand. Again, examples in which these compromises, or rather lack
of ability to make these compromises, can be seen throughout Canadian history. One
such example of this was Prime Minister Joe Clark s minority Conservative
government of 1979. In an attempt to ensure prosperity, Clark attempted to run the
government as if it was a majority, and deliver on the platform on which he had run
his election campaign. This was achieved by attempting to follow in the footsteps of
the last Conservative Prime Minister, John Diefenbaker. Because of this, Clark was
unable to deliver his own political agenda as

The work of Frankenstein and the novel cannot be underestimated in the
contemporary world. The use of fiction and hypothetical question in creating the

in the understanding of the novel is a burden to the reader to understand the foci point
in modern literature as compared with the older literature perception and know which

Rapunzel By Christine Hepper
The two pieces I would be talking about are Rapunzel and Tiempo . While writing
Rapunzel I was inspired by a different poem, Rapunzel by Christine Hepper
.Christine Hepper writes about fairy tales and teenage girl side by side. I thought
that by doing something similar to that would make a great poem. So I tried to
explore Rapunzel and why she had to be saved by a prince and why she could save
herself. During the revision process, you wrote that I should explore what would
happen if Rapunzel was a person of color instead of white and if she cut her hair
off. It was hard to find something to write about with that. However I tried to write
about how important hair is to people of color and what would happen if it was all

I feel like from the last portfolio to this one I am writing more about identity and

The evolving challenges of sustainability between ancient and modern civilisations.
A healthy natural environment is indispensible to the wellbeing of humans
everywhere in the world. From the provisioning adequate food, clean water and air, to
regulating diseases, ecosystem services and human health depend on conditions of the
natural environment.
Links between the natural environment and human livelihood are complex. Human
resource and land use are structured by limits of the environment. Environmental
determinism has in the past been a prominent theory when exploring the relationship
between humans and the environment. The concept is that the evolution and

An example of where this has occurred is in the civilisation that once inhabited
Easter Island. The history of the island has become a symbol of human induced
ecological and subsequent cultural collapse. It was home to the ancient civilisation,
of Polynesian decent and is most well known for the hundreds of Moai stone
statues that were erected across the island by the ancient civilisation (Diamond,
2006) . It is known that the society on Easter Island was a complex society but at
the time that Europeans discovered the island, the population had crashed and was
almost decimated (de la Croix and Dottori, 2008). Ecological collapse is often
regarded as the predominant factor, which caused the societal collapse.
The limits set by Easter Islands geography presented challenges to early human
settlers. The climate is cool, windy and dry compared to other pacific islands. The
cooler waters resulted in a reduced availability of fish and shellfish, one of the main
dietary staples for other civilisations in the pacific at that time(Diamond, 2006).
The accessibility to fresh water was also difficult. The porous volcanic soils caused
the water to percolate quickly. There is only one fresh water stream on the island
and few fresh water springs, offshore and ponds in volcanic craters (Diamond, 2006).
Its geographical isolation in the south pacific, 3200km from the coast of Chile and

Analyzing The Basics Of An Income Statement
If you are part of the business world, you need to be aware of some of the financial
statements companies are required to produce. If you ve heard people talk about
profits and losses, the chances are they are talking about an income statement. For
people who haven t gone through accounting school, these statements can be all
Greek to you.
But understanding income statements is vital for anyone who s involved with the
sector. This guide is going to explain the basics of an income statement, help you
understand the terminology used in these statements and provide you with tips for
analysing income statements.
What is an income statement?
An income statement is an essential part of a company s financial records. The
official definition says an income statement is:
A financial document generated monthly and/or annually that reports the earnings of
a company by stating all relevant revenues (or gross income) and expenses in order
to calculate net income. Also referred to as a profit and loss statement.
In essence, the income statement looks at the financial performance of an entity over
a specific period in time. It providers the entity a summary of the revenue and
expenses by looking at operating and non operating activities.
In most instances, an income statement looks at the net profit or loss of the entity
over a fiscal year, but in certain instances, this could also be a quarter or even a
month.
In crude terms, an income statement is divided into two sections:
Personal Narrative-Marching Band Competition
The Golden Triangle Looking up I could see four towering bright, blinding stadium
light posts surrounding the stadium; these lights surrounded my world for twenty
long minutes. My marching band had just finished our eight minute marching show,
afterwards we lined up in the end zone anxiously awaiting the final scores for the
twenty six bands that had performed throughout the day. My band was the last to
perform which unfortunately meant we had to wait on the field for our scores in full
uniform which includes: shorts, a t shirt, long black socks, black hideous marching
shoes, suspender like pants and an uncomfortable jacket with Michael Jackson
shoulder pads. After twelve unbearably long minutes the announcers voice echoed
around the stadium, Welcome to the Golden Triangle Marching Band Competition!
Sunglasses, unbelievably high temperatures, and embarrassing farmers tans are
some of the realities of marching band. My band honestly was not the best in our
region, for instance going into competitions we realistically knew not to expect first

Who Is Grendel In Beowulf
Grendel was written by an American author known as John Gardner in 1971. This
novel retells a part from the poem Beowulf; however, it is told from the view of
Grendel. Throughout the novel there are a multitude of characteristics shown by
Grendel. After comprehending the novel from Grendel s point of view it more
pronounced that he is rather good than evil, and more so a character that is
sympathized for.
Many times the perspective people have is what leads them to make predictions about
the characters intentions. The novel Grendel gives readers the chance to alter their
perspective to the point they may believe Grendel has hopeful intentions, but
executes his emotions rather terribly. Grendel is lonely, and in a way depressed
because he is unable to communicate with the villagers as well as his own mom. He
is completely isolated and all alone. At one point Grendel desires to be liked by the
villagers, so he enters the dining hall in which they eat at (Grendel 51). After he
enters the hall he receives such a negative response that he lashes out at the people
(Grendel 52). Rejection can truly affect the way someone behaves. Grendel had the
utmost intentions of showing the villagers he is not a monster; however, due to ...

The man had changed the world, had torn up the past by its thick, gnarled roots and

(Grendel 43). In this situation Grendel can understand their language, but cannot
understand his mother nor can the villagers understand him. This just creates another
part of Grendel s life that readers begin to sympathize with. He is completely and
utterly isolated from understanding anyone else or them even understanding him.

tells his story of the struggle and anger towards many injustices that happen around
him and his journey from channeling that anger through crime to using it to start a

Mississippi. He then describes his difficult childhood using vivid language, as the
son of a migrant worker he had to move many times a year and assimilate into

they had so most of the time that meant having no shoes or one pair of pants. The
social climate was also very tense, he describes it as I always remembered my

The first telescope I went to was the Nebula. I learned that it had a grey ring around

first quite difficult to locate but then once I angled my head a bit, it was easily
located. It looked like a small cluster of gas that I was looking at. The second

The Normal Operation Of A Botnet
A.Botnet Life cycle
Processes involved in the normal operation of a botnet has no comprehensive
approach to either the stages encompassing the life cycle, or the lack of
compartmentalization between them (see Figure 1, Botnet Life cycle Taxonomy).
Apart from normal operations, so far there s no qualitative analysis on how these
stages should be characterized, defined, or distinguished. A proposed botnetlife cycle
stage starts with conception and ends with reaching the desired malicious intent, i.e. a
successful attack and can include DDoS, spam, phishing, or click fraud.
Corresponding mechanisms to these stages of the botnet life cycle are typically
focused on attempting to hide the botnet (communication processes, location of the
bots, and botmaster), some of these methods include IP spoofing, multi hopping,
polymorphism, and fast flux networks. (GarcД±a Teodoro, Macia Fernandez,
RodrД±guez Gomez, 2012). Any defensive approach to overcoming a botnet is
dedicated to preventing execution of a particular process in one of the botnet life
cycle stages or combine processes in one or more stages. Deterring execution of a
single stage in the botnet life cycle can thwart a malicious and devastating outcome.
In principle, prevention of hidden mechanisms doesn t suggest deterrence of the
botnet goal, but increases the probability that a botnet will be identified by a defense
method.

Premature Babies
What is a premature baby? A premature baby, is an infant that was born earlier than
the original due date. These types of pregnancy s can be unexpected or they may
be needed due to medical conditions. These babies are typically born much earlier
than most. While reading the information provided, all readers will learn: how
early preemies are usually born, what causes prematurity, also can prematurity
cause health issues. Preemies are born quite some time before their due date. Most
premature infants are born within three to four weeks earlier, than babies born at
their full forty weeks. Spacefem.com states that 31.8% of U.S babies are born at

Social Inequality In The Victorian Age
The Victorian Age in England was marked by extreme social inequality. However, the
industrialization of England brought major changes that impacted all social classes.
The Victorian Age began in 1837, when Queen Victoria took the throne. During her
reign, Britain s power and wealth made England prominent around the world.
Although the inequality of social classes brought hardship for many people, the
industrialization in England during the Victorian Age affected all social classes.
During the Victorian Age, society was structured into three classes: wealthy, middle
class, and poor. Daily lives of people in each of these classes varied because of the
jobs available to them. People in the upper class usually inherited their wealth.
Because of this, the wealthy did not have to work, but they still enjoyed a
luxurious lifestyle, including land, a large house, and fine clothes and food. Also,
there were a number of aristocrats who managed large industries like mining or
shipping (victorian era.org). In addition to the wealthy class, the Victorian Era
was a prosperous time for the middle class. This rapidly growing class created a
demand for goods and services, such as clothes and silverware, that were provided
by the working class. Also, many middle class families hired servants to help with
cleaning, cooking, and taking care of the children. Unlike the wealthy elite class, the
middle class had to work to earn their living. They worked as bankers, railway engine
drivers,
Environmental economics
For more than 30 years, there have been discussions concerning the development of
the Bakun Dam in the East Malaysian state of Sarawak. If built, the dam would be
the largest in South East Asia. The Bakun Dam: A Case Study indicates that
generating 2400 megawatts of power, it would provide electricity for all of Sarawak,
and for industries and cities in mainland Malaysia, through a cable under the South
China Sea. At 650 kilometres, this would be by far the longest cable in the world.

environmental future.
Even after the project had been shelved in 1990, lobbying by its proponents
continued, particularly by the Sarawak government, which urged the federal
government to revive the project. Finally, in September 1993, the Malaysian
cabinet approved construction of the Bakun Dam. In reviving the project,
Malaysia s need for power was most often invoked as justification. By 1993 the
Malaysian economy was growing by more than 8 percent per year, with electricity
demand expanding even faster. The Borneo Bulletin affirms that blackouts in 1992
and 1993, and a predicted doubling of demand by 2000, were indications of a power
crisis, justifying extraordinary efforts to expand supply. Project proponents also
believed the Bakun Dam could help reduce dependence on fossil fuels, especially oil.
Most evident however, was that this project was consistent with an energy policy
relying almost entirely on supply. In Harun s argument, he referred to the quote from
environmentalist Gurmit Singh (1995) to prove his theory: The concept of energy
conservation and certainly its implementation is virtually absent in Malaysia. This is
why Malaysia needs to complete the dam, to enhance its economic and environmental
status on the worldwide scale.
Furthermore, the Bakun Dam has attracted the attention of numerous international

You may think that letting your inside dog or cat outside to use the restroom is
harmless. But what are they really doing while they re out there? Pets who are not

or not, this could lead to new litters of puppies or kittens. These new homeless
animals, possibly along with your pet, are likely to end up in a shelter (if not

they define the strategies that will used to help students with dyslexia learn. Dyslexia
is caused by differences in the information processing patterns of learning disability

Therefore, an educator needs to know the areas to focus that will produce the best
results and help the student learn. Results from various studies have shown that
besides intelligence the ability to sequence, analyze, and remember sounds are the
biggest contributors to reading achievement (Smith, 2003). In view of these finding it
is important to isolate the fields within this area that will have the greatest impact and
help direct the learning strategies. A study along these lines was conducted by Melby
LervГҐg, Lyster, amp; Hulme. Melby LervГҐg, Lyster, amp; Hulme (2012) conducted
a meta analytic study to study the relationship between phonological skills and
student s reading abilities. Under phonological skills mainly three factors were
considered. They are verbal short term memory, phonemic awareness, and rime

Strengths and Weaknesses of the Geared Turbofan Engine (GTF)
There are many ways one could use to improve the fuel efficiency of an aircraft.
However, I would like to focus on one in particular which is the PurePower Geared
Turbofan Engine by Pratt and Whitney. The Geared Turbofan Engine was first used
on small private jets by Honeywell but they never advanced the technology. Pratt and
Whitney decided to work on it so that engines could be more efficient, even though it
took them more than 20 years to do it.

The turboprop planes had a gearbox between the shafts and the fan. This allowed the
fan to turn slower while the compressor and turbine turned faster. Even though this
gearing approach would save much more fuel, it had not been tried on commercial
jetliners. This was because it was a general belief that it would be too heavy and
wear out too rapidly. Pratt and Whitney decided that they would be willing to
experiment with this. The major challenge they had was in making the gearbox
bigger. This was so that it could keep it from being torn apart if there was a shock
that pulled the fan in one direction and the shaft in the other. Adding steel to
increase the stiffness would have been too heavy. Eventually, after much research
and development, the PurePower GTF engine was ready for testing in 2008. The
engineers of Pratt and Whitney broke a prototype on purpose to see if accidents
would destroy the gear. However, there was barely an effect on the
The Oldest Treatments For Epilepsy
The ketogenic diet; one of the oldest treatments for epilepsy is based on the creation
of ketones in the body. The creation of ketone bodies is accomplished through high
fat intake, carbohydrate depletion and a fasting metabolism; over long periods of
time. When the body is in a fasting state, it creates ketones, a by product of a fat
burning metabolism. It has long been recognized that seizures often lessen or
disappear during periods of fasting in some individuals with epilepsy (Richard
Senelick, 2014). This fat burning metabolism is slowly become popular amongst
dieters and endurance athletes. Besides the clear loss of body fat there is the increase
in brain processes that create extreme amounts of clarity.
Why is the ketogenic diet so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ketosis is a metabolic state where the liver produces organic molecules known as
ketone bodies. Technically, the term ketonedenotes an organic molecule where a
carbon atom, sandwiched between two other carbon atoms, is double bonded to
an oxygen atom (Peter Attia, 2014). To reach this state the body must deplete all
glucose stores including those in the liver. This can be accomplished through
periods of fasting or through intake of high fat and minimal carbohydrates and
sugars. Both sugars and carbohydrates are converted to glucose for the body to
burn as energy or ATP. When the body is starved of glucose it must switch gears in
order to continue its existence. This switch of gears is what followers of the
ketogenic diet call fat assimilation. The human body under the realization that there
are no stores of glucose for energy asks the liver to create ketone bodies. Those
ketone bodies use lipids or fat for energy. This is the greatest benefit for dieters since
the goal for most is to lose weight through fat loss.
Using fat for energy is the main goal of ketosis. This is what differentiates keto
dieters from conventional dieters. Conventional dieters are still considered sugar
burners while keto dieters are considered fat burners. The irony of this is that even
conventional dieters are looking to burn fat. This conventional mentality is to carb

Then, in The Man I killed , it is shown how the character, O Brien, marvels at the

Another victim of the war, soldier Norman Bowker, is also afflicted after his

The Oil Sands Assets Of North America
RESERVES
CNRL s reserves seem to be well diversified, both in terms of the countries they are
operating in, as well as the type of resources they are
extracting. CNRL s operation is currently involved in three different continents: North
America, UK portion of North Sea and Offshore Africa. It
produces both oil as well as natural gas.
North America
For the gas, CNRL has both conventional as well as unconventional reserves. The
assets in North America is primarily in Western Canadian
Sedimentary basin with five major regions of operation: NW Alberta, NE BC,
Foothills, Northern and Southern Plains.
For oil, their reserves include crude oil, primary, secondary and tertiary recoveries
and oil sands (both in situ and mining operations). CNRL
claims to be the largest heavy crude oil producer in Canada. The assets for crude oil
and NGL are located in Alberta Saskatchewan border,
Pelican Lake field. The oil sands assets are in Athabasca and Cold Lake deposits.
Their major project is in Fort McMurray area, which is called
Horizons project.
North Sea Offshore Africa
In North Sea, CNRL is operating in mature basins with low risk and high value
strategy by extending field life. In offshore Africa, CNRL has two
reservoirs: East and West Espoir which are in offshore Ivory Coast, about 60km
southwest of the capital city: Abidjan. CNRL currently has a 50%
working interest in a deep water exploration project between Mossel Bay and Port
Elizabeth located in offshore

The Value of Taking Risks and Making Mistakes
A life spent in making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a
life spent in doing nothing, wrote George Bernard Shaw. This is true, one can not
truly live life to the fullest and experience all of the things that make life beautiful if
they are not willing to put themselves out there and risk being cut open.
Mistakes are simply learning tools, a means of giving us higher aspirations. They are
underappreciated and should be embraced rather than shunned. Without mistakes, life
would be boring, then where would we be?
As small children we are naturally very accident prone creatures. Everything is new
and shiny and somehow we are attracted to all of the things that are potentially
harmful. Our minds are designed to want what we shouldn t and to not do as we are
told. From a psychological standpoint, the blisters that form on the burned toddler s
hand are a negative reinforcement. Once the child has experienced the pain firsthand,
it will associate the heat of the stovetop or the oven with pain. After the association
has been made, the child will not want to make that particular mistake again. That s
all psychobabble though. With every scrape, burn, and scar, one s childhood
becomes a long string of memories and stories that are bound to be retold as a
learning tool for the next generation or just to look back on and be able laugh at the
naivety that the most important
Examples Of Truth In The Virgin Suicides
French novelist Gustave Flaubert once said, There is no Truth. There is only
perception. Since the 1800s, when this quote was given, it still holds true. This quote
puts the idea that no one really knows the truth, and what is believed to be the truth is
merely the perception through which it is seen, into words. A modern day example of
truthbeing used is seen in the movie The Virgin Suicides. This movie is about a
group of neighborhood boys who become obsessed with the five Lisbon sisters who
were strictly controlled by their overbearing, protective, religious parents. Throughout
the movie, viewers watch the Lisbon sisters and their downward spiral to mental
illness that ultimately took each of their lives. The movie was all told from the
neighborhood boy s perspective.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first example is in the opening scene the youngest sister, Cecilia, was rushed to
the hospital after being found with her wrists slit in her bathroom. After the
incident, it was left to neighborhood speculation about what had happened. The
neighborhood boys believed her suicide attempt was committed because of her
heartbreak with Dominic Palazzolo, a boy from school. The doctor believed it was
merely a cry for help and the Lisbon sisters believed their sister was lonely and
unhappy. All the while Cecilia knows the true reasonwhy she attempted to take her
own life, and that was because of her overbearing parents who refused to let her live
out her childhood. This opening scene is related to the theme of truth because, as
Flaubert stated in his quote, no one truly knows the truth. It is based on how one
perceived the incident. Each of the characters perceived Cecilia s suicide attempt
completely differently from the way she
Persuasive Speech On Blood Donations
Donating Blood
Just imagine if one of your brothers or sisters was born with a heart defect and had
to have daily transfusions of blood in order to have a chance of survival.
Unfortunately, things happen like this everyday and some of you may have
experienced them already. In this essay I am going to persuade you to become a blood
donor. I try to donate blood every two months or so because it makes me feel like I
am doing something good and saving people s lives. Do you know that 95% of all
Americans will need a blood transfusion sometime in our lives (Red Cross web
site)? That statistic means that there is a possibility that you, and your family and
friends could need support from volunteer blood donors. In this essay I will discuss
the need for blood donations, solutions that can increase blood donations, and actions
that need to be taken to increase blood donations.
The need for blood is growing more everyday while the numbers of donors is
decreasing. Sickle cell disease affects more than 70,000 people in the U.S. About
1,000 babies are born with the disease each year. Sickle cell patients can require
frequent blood transfusions throughout their lives (RedCrossBlood.org).
According to the Red Cross blood website 41,000 pints of blood are needed every
single day, and they need us to make that possible. Donating blood is a safe process
that is done with a sterile needle used only one time for each donor. There is a four
step process to donating blood. First, is the
Toy Story Internal Conflict
a. The pixar film Toy Story presents an external conflict with our main characters
Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Buzz is the new toy in Andy s Room and starts getting
too much attention for Andy s favorite toy Woody s liking. Once Andy starts to
favor Buzz, Woody becomes jealous leading to his attempt to exterminate Buzz by
pushing him out the window. The rest of the movie is about Woody finding Buzz
and bringing them back home safely while learning to live with each other s
differences. I believe this story to be a representation of person versus person. The
Hunger Games as in the first novel by Suzanne Collins presents an external conflict

people to her advantage and killing the other kids in the games. She only pretends

Sabaa Tahir s book An Ember in the Ashes presents an internal conflict with our
main character Elias. Son of the tyrant called Commandment, Elias has trained all
of his life to be a ruthless soldier and more recently the new emperor of Serra.
However, Elias thinks differently than his peers and does not want to live out his
days as a human weapon, cutting down anyone who opposes him like his mother
the Commandment. This type of conflict can be specified as person verses himself.
Splash is a movie about a mermaid who struggles with an internal conflict against

believing they are nothing but myths except for one scientist who is onto her.
Madison then has to accustom to human traditions like eating with utensils, wearing
clothes, speaking English and paying for things all while trying to keep her secret
from Allan and the scientist who wants to share it with the public and his laboratory.
The First Ten Amendments Of The First Amendment
On the cold night of March 5th, 1770, a mob of American colonists were protesting
outside the Customs House in Boston. One colonist threw a snowball hitting Private
Hugh Montgomery. Montgomery replied with a shot into the crowd. This led the
rest of the British Army soldiers to shoot into the crowd killing five people in an
event that would later be known as the Boston Massacre (Foner and Garraty). After
this protest, more and more taxes were levied against the colonies, particularly
regarding tea. To add, trade with nations besides Great Britain was prohibited. These
affronts were met with the tarring and feathering of British tax collectors and the
infamous Boston Tea Party. As a result of this, Massachussetts was essentially ruled
by martial law. This finally culminated with a declaration of independence by the
Second Continental Congress on July 4th, 1776. The United Statesof America was
formed.
Due to the British oppression, every American, including our founding founders,
wanted greater protection of their rights. To accomplish this, James Madison drafted
the Bill of Rights and by the end of 1791, every state had ratified the first ten
amendments. The First Amendment is primary, not just because it is at the
beginning, but because it articulates the First Freedom and the nature of that freedom.
It states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the
press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the
Government for a redress of grievances. By connecting the freedom of religion with
the freedoms of speech and press, the First Amendment showed the people of
America what it is to be a human (Bill of Rights).
The first part of that amendment is the result of the Founding Fathers experience
with the long history of religious strife in Europe such as the French Wars of
Religion, the Thirty Years War, and the Crusades. They realized that religious
disagreement can be counterproductive and create setbacks in politics. It would be
even worse if one religious group was favored. So, they ensured that the federal
government cannot interfere in the citizen s personal
Master Harold vs No Exit Essay
The setting of a play is extremely vital. It could a form of symbolism,
foreshadowing, or it can affect the characters in the play. The is exactly the case in
both No Exit by Jean Paul Sartre and Master Harold ...and the boys by Athol
Fugard. The setting in both plays contain of one room that mainly consists of three
major characters. The setting has an enormous impact on the behavior of the
characters. The time period in which both plays are form also effect the style of
writing and the characters. No Exit has an existentialist style of writing were as

This play is based in a small coffee shop in South Africa. A rainy day forces the
shop to very unproductive. Still there are two African workers with the son of the
white owner. Look at the three of us this afternoon (Fugard 46). Sam is talking to
the rest saying that only the three of them are here this afternoon. Fugard uses the
one room to keep all of the characters together. He is trying to get the audience to
perceive them as friends at the beginning of the play. He wants to show the effect
of staying in a room with a select few can change the atmosphere of the room.
Sartre and Fugard are both trying to show the harmless side of the characters
before the setting changes them and the circumstances. The effect of the one room
on anyone for a long period of time will result in hatred and bias. In No Exit the two
female characters, Inez and Estelle, want to kill each other by the end of the play.
Right! In that case, I ll stop her watching. (She picks up the PAPER knife and stabs
Inez several times.) (Sartre 45). Estelle is say that she will not let her watch her

forgets that since they are in hell, she is already dead and the knife has no effect on
her. Estelle has a strong sense of hatred for Inez and vice versa. The people also start
to favor one over the other. Now then. Your lips. Give me your lips (Sartre
The Collapse Of The Aztec Civilization
People often wonder how a civilisation as advanced as the Aztecs could have
collapsed within 2 years of the arrival of foreigners. The Aztecs arrived in
Tenochtitlan (modern Mexico City) in 1325 CE, and the empire collapsed 200
years later, in 1521 CE. The pivotal event that assisted in the collapse of the
civilisation was the arrival of conquistador Hernan CortГ©s. The main factors that
assisted CortГ©s were tribal warfare, the Aztec religion, disease, and the difference
between Aztec and Spanish military technology. Disease played a significant role in
the downfall of the Aztecs, because it killed 25% of the population, including major
military leaders. (The Fall of the Aztec Empire, 2006) The Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan,

The Aztecs were introduced to Smallpox, Measles and Mumps right after they
defeated the Spanish in the Night of Sorrows. The diseases had a massive effect on
the population, and killed a quarter of the population within 3 years, including the
Emperor CuitlГЎhuac, and many other important military leaders (The Fall of the
Aztec Empire, 2006). A description by an Aztec shows the effects of the disease
on the general population There was indeed perishing; many indeed died of it No
longer could they walk; they only lay in their abodes, in their beds... And when they
bestirred themselves, much did they cry out. There was much perishing... Like a
covering, covering like, were the pustules. Indeed many people died of them...
(Bernadino, 1529). The source shows how the disease was killing the population,
and how it weakened them as they died. The sight of these foreigners, immune to
this disease, as everyone they knew died, would have had an immense psychological
effect on bystanders. Another source states He enslaved much of the native
population, and many of the indigenous people were wiped out from European
diseases such as smallpox (Szalay, 2017). It shows us the treatment of the Aztecs after
the collapse of the empire, and proves that disease affected the Aztecs, even after the
Europeans conquered them. The constant disease and pestilence after the arrival of
the Europeans led to the collapse and eventual extinction of the Aztec

Social Sin In The Movie 42
The movie, 42, displays multiple examples of social sin in the late 1940s. Jackie
Robinson is the first African American to play in the Major Leagues, which had a
huge part in breaking the color barrier in sports. Because of his courageous act, he
was discriminated and verbally abused. These hurtful abuses that targeted Robinson
are known as social sin. Social sin is a buildup of sins that are harmful to society and
to individuals. In fact, many social sins present themselves in this film. For example,
when the Dodgers played multiple teams, the fans would shout vulgar comments at
Robinson. When one person would shout something at Robinson, more people would
join them. One specific example was when the young boy was in the stands, sitting

Elephant Behavior
Asian elephants are large and gray. They inhabit tropical forests. They can
camouflage their gray color in shady areas to conceal themselves against predators.
These elephants have long trunks, allowing them to reach the ground, squirt water
over their backs or into their mouths, and blow dirt onto their backs during dust
baths. Male elephants often have visible tusks whereas females, such as those in
northeast India, do not. Surprisingly, elephants have large padded feet that enable
them to walk with minimal noise. Large, flappable ears help them cool off. however,
they will overheat if they cannot get to a shaded area during the hottest part of the day.
Scientists are able to study elephant behavior using their trails. This includes female

The majority of the species take a part in activities such as complex communication,
teaching, greeting ceremonies, courtship, and communal care. Females often have
very close relationships with other females. The majority of them stay together their
entire lives and care for each other. Asian elephants have also been known to stay
behind with a sick or injured herd mate. This is a trait many humans admire and
strive to resemble.
Lack of mating and deforestation have caused a major decline of these beautiful
creatures. In 1900, an estimated 100,000 Asian elephants existed. Now, over half of
the population has been lost. Scientists predict they will become extinct by 2025.
That is less than ten years away.
Before industrialization, Asian elephants roamed most of Asia. Due to deforestation
and the loss of their supplies for human use, only 15% of that space is still available
to them. Elephants from different regions are restricted to different areas. For
example, the Indian elephant has a larger amount of land to roam than the Sri
Lankan. Sumatran elephants have lost 70% of their habitat due to human

undone shoelace was taped down. Our trainer had taped my ankles perfectly, unlike
the useless student trainers who always tried to tape us before Andrew could get to

Race As A Social Construct
Race as a social construct refers to a group that is socially and culturally defined on
the basis of physical criteria. During European colonisation, Europeans came into
contact with people from different areas of the world and after speculating the
physical, cultural and social differences between the groups; these groups were
placed in races. By defining racial classifications, racismensues. Racism is
discriminating, exerting prejudice and or power over a group or individual based on
the belief that an individual s group is superior to another. Shadism is dependant
upon the existence of Racism. Shadism refers to the amount of melanin in a person s
skin, which is used to define a persons worth within that racial category.
Shadism and Racism are both a large part in Hollywood and the casting process.
There has been a recent concentration online on institutional racism in Hollywood;
social media movements have brought attention towards, the casting process and the
lack of diversity at the Oscars. The persistent snubbing of people of colour (POC) in
Hollywood is being recognised. However, has this changed the representation of POC
in films?
The upcoming biography, drama, Nina (2016) has been the centre of much
controversy and has consequently, brought about conversations regarding shadism
and blackface. In the trailer for the film, actress Zoe Saldana plays Nina alongside
her onscreen personal assistant David Oyelowo. The trailer received a large amount

The two religions of Rastafarianism and Judaism embody many of the same

Many of the customs are almost identical, but the rationale behind the traditions and

In the Jewish religion, Judaism is not only obtained through conversion but mainly

because their mothers are, not their fathers. Therefore, it could be claimed that Haile

result in a shortage of this resource, which would thus result in humanity needing to

international trade has is the increase in harmful goods and products that are
imported and exported to and from Australia. This results in more illegal substances
like drugs and toxic chemicals being brought into the country, further resulting in
harm occurring to not just the environment, but to the well being of Australian

Analysis Of Barack Obama s Waiting On The World To
Change
Change does not occur overnight. It takes effort from multiple lives to refine certain
aspects of opinions, to amend rights that can be accessible throughout our
community. Barack Obama, our first black president of the United States toiled for
minorities to have a higher representation along with having their voices hearkened
when they were once suppressed. Waiting on the World to Change by John Mayor
demonstrates the concept of producing innovation for a better society. Along with the
lyrics presented, Barack Obamatriggered amendments to certain rights, now
accessed to everyone today which is revealed in his story Dreams from My Father.
These two sources influenced my vision in black politics, where black leaders
contribute to that change by encouraging the youth to be actively involved, resolving
dropout rates among African Americans and Hispanics. Waiting on the World to
Change by John Mayer with Barack Obama s Dreams from My Father changed my
thinking in black politics as I first perceived the change being triggered by adults
controlling the aspects of the community, but these pieces of text emphasize the
importance of African Americanleaders persuading the underrepresented youth to
create that change by being involved realizing the significance of role models
persuading the youth to create an impact. Before I comprehended the two pieces of
text that impacted my life, I assumed that adult leaders are the key factors
contributing to change in society. I presumed the youth, the future of this country
was not allowed to share what we anticipate benefitting the well being of our
community. How we the youth, would be irritated while waiting to turn eighteen to
trigger the desired change the world aspires to have. Me and all my friends, we re
all misunderstood. They say we stand for nothing. This phrase is significant because
the youth, including myself perceive we are worthless as a couple of grownups
regulate our lives, affirming what we are not allowed to do in our lives constructing
the fear of being included in society. This fear promotes the isolation of children from
the community with this fear implied in their minds that they would be insulted and
endangered by contributing to
Political Status of the Disputed Territories
Political status of the disputed territories The political status between the nations of
Israel and Palestine is a continuing crisis that began upon Israel s formation shortly
after the conclusion of World War II. Many small scale wars and battles have been
fought over the years killing many and intensifying the region. The political situation
sees many Western forces providing economic and military support for Israel. The
conflict lies in two general areas: religious idolatry and the formation of an officially
recognized Palestinian state. The political status of Cyprus is fragmented and
uncertain. Cyprus has been in disarray since 1974 when Turkey inserted military
forces geographically and politically dividing the island nation. Since this time
political tension between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots has been constant. United
Nations involvement has inserted some relief but a new hydrocarbon discovery off
the coast of Cyprus has reignited tensions about who has the rights to the potential
economic windfall. After the Soviet breakup in the late 1980 s many new political
situations arose. Such is the case in Nagorno Karabakh as Armenian political forces
stand in opposition to Azerbaijan. Armenian secessionists using the Soviet absence as
an impetus, began a conflict to escape Azerbaijan rule. Religion plays a role in this
conflict as the Christian Armenians, under perceived persecution have fought for
independence. The political status of the warring nations have
Comparing Nietzsche And Rand
Nietzsche and rand both have some interesting way of viewing life. Nietzsche
believed that humans should live life as they want and there should be no rules on
how to live. He also believes that truth is a perception, and it is something that could
only be achieved by someone who neglects everything known to be significant. It is
also similar to Ayn Rand s idea.
In my opinion, some of the essential idea in Nietzsche s beyond good and evil is his
search for the truth. He believed everyone had the ability to explore truth in their
own specific way. In Nietzsche s beyond good and evil he also believes that self
preservation is not the main ambition of human beings but the fundamental creative
force that motivates all creations is the will to power (122). Furthermore, Friedrich
Nietzsche did not believe in the existence of God, to him, God was dead. God plays
no vital role in our culture except as a protector of the slaves morality, including the
idea of equal worth of all persons (122).
Ayn Rand, In Defense of Ethical Egoism, suggests individuals needs to be selfish,
she further explains that limiting or humbling oneself for the sake of morality is
wrong. A morality that dares to tell you to find happiness in the reunification of your

Similarly, they both agreed on the same idea of sense of life. However, they had
different opinion on slavery. Ayn Rand was against slavery, she emphasized that men
should be free, she believed freedom made man s mind at ease. Though Friedrich
Nietzsche was for the notion that higher authority, (master) can attain success even at
the cost using another individual
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s Art Collection
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s art collection blends history and culture to
aesthetically define a single individual: Isabella Stewart Gardner. From the Mosaic
Floor: Medusa of the inner courtyard, to The Coronation of Hebe (Paolo Veronese)
on the ceiling of the third floor Veronese Room, Gardner determined every inch of
both the interior and exterior of the structure housing her personal collection of
masterpieces. This museum was specifically designed to resemble a 15th century
Venetian palazzo, inspired from the city that captured Gardner s heart and ultimate
vision of her legacy (Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum). Assisted by Renaissance
revival architect, Willard T. Sears, the palazzo like structure was realized in its full
glory, albeit Renaissance ornamentation had no logical place in early 20th century
Boston, Massachusetts. However, Isabella Stewart Gardners fascination with the
Renaissance was not solely because the works and buildings were visually pleasing.
A palazzo, for a wealthy family, was a lasting symbol of status. Gardner s choice to
create a museum inspired by this Renaissance structure demonstrates how this
Renaissance mindset can be translated into her modern context when crafting her
own legacy.
The exterior of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is drastically more modest than
the interior. In the same fashion as the traditional palazzos of the Renaissance, the
masonry is smooth and understated. The flat roof resembles that of the Palazzo
A World Divided by Those Who Can Afford Technology
and...
Imagine a world divided by those who can afford technology and those who
cannot. Those that have access to technology are the richest in the world, and
those that do not are stuck in poverty with no way to improve their economic
status. It sounds like the starting lines of a Hollywood movie but it is a growing
issue in America and abroad. The digital divide is the divide or gap between people
who have access to technology and those that do not. The divide is creating
problems for schools who require more and more assignments to be done on a
computer. Also, having the internetis having the power of information and
knowledge that not everyone has the ability to access. Other countries suffer from
the digital divide at a staggering percentage compared to US, UK and Europe.
(Crawford) In the United States the ability to get internet access is usually limited
to where you live. There are many homes in the US where there is not reliable
internet access. There are elementary schools that require papers, homework and
research to be done on computers. The students that do not have easy access to a
computer will have a strong disadvantage over those that do. Schools are getting
better and more advanced computer labs but not all students can stay after school to
complete their homework, if they are required to take the bus. In 1995 the Commerce
Department published its findings on the digital divide. They found geographic,
economic and racial gaps between

The Truman Show Film Review
The Truman Show is a science fiction film, which is directed by Peter Weir in
1998. Jim Carrey, Ed Harris, Laura Linney these great stars join this film, and their
acting is fantastic to play their roles. The movie brings the audience a new
experience, persuades people to explore and consider the world they live. Peter
Weir uses a simple way cleverly to show his concept through a person s growth to
show the life in the world. This film can lead the audience to experience the fake,
the love and the reality, to predict that after a person experiences these, what his life
will be? Moreover, setting, and star s acting are also the features of the movie.

Use of Propaganda the U.S. War in Iraq Essay example
Use of Propaganda the U.S. War in Iraq The word propaganda comes from the
Vatican. The phrase congregatio de propaganda fide (The congregation for the
propagation of the faith) was used to support the catholic faith in response to the
Protestant Reformation (Labash, 20 Dec, 2001). Propaganda is everywhere and has
been around for a long time. Every newspaper, magazine, news channel, radio
station, advertisement, or any other types of mass media contain elements of
propaganda. Propaganda is often given a negative connotation due to its history of
power and control; as in the Hitler s regime, but in reality the definition is very
simple. According to Webster s College Dictionary, propaganda is information or

It is really no more than the organization of methods designed to persuade people to
think and behave in a certain way, and in wartime that usually means getting them
to fight or to support the fight (Labash, 20 Dec, 2001). Wartime propaganda is so
important that it can often be used as a weapon because of the power that comes
with public support. The ability to win public support can be just as important as
the ability to fight the war. HISTORY OF WARTIME PROPAGANDA Wartime
propaganda has been a major influence in many, if not all, of the major wars. One
of the first known uses of war propaganda was by Alexander the Great. After being
forced to retreat in a battle Alexander the Great realized that it would be a
disadvantage to show he was weak and had to retreat. He overcame this problem by
using propaganda to intimidate the opposing army. Alexander s army made
oversized armor and helmets and left them behind as they retreated. His intent was
that the opposing army would be intimidated and not pursue his army because the
oversized armor made Alexander s army look like giants (Labash, 20 Dec, 2001).
Another occurrence of wartime propaganda occurred in Vietnam where Americans
would kidnap and blindfold Vietnamese fisherman. Then the Americans would take
them to an island and tell them that it was part of a resistance group called The
Sacred Sword of the Patriot League. The fishermen were then returned back to the

to use in New York. I thought I would not be able to buy any chocolate or snow

remembered my dad owned me twenty bucks. He owed me twenty bucks because
he borrowed it from me once to pay the grass cutter, because he had forgotten to get
money from the bank. I know it wasn t a lot, but I could still by a cheap ten dollar

announcement. The pilot was telling us that our departure would be delayed.
When I heard this I started to cry. My brother beat me up as he always does when
he sees me cry, so I stopped. Finally after three hours we arrived to the JFK
International Airport. When we arrived to the airport we had a hard time finding
our aunts and cousins that were suppose to be there to pick us up. We were
expecting to see two tall men and a short lady. So we spent two hours searching for
them around the airport. I did not mind this because this gave me a opportunity to see
all the cool stores and statues in the airport. Eventually we found them in a Starbucks
Folly And Reconstruction
The first episode of Eyes on the Prizes continues our study of American culture and
politics by revisiting the plight of the African Americans in the United States. Their
struggle to claim the freedoms and equalities outlined in the constitution was a
daunting task. The period of Reconstruction following the Civil War was scrapped
and labelled a failure by Northerners and Southerners alike. Both parties clung to
myths that African Americans had been irresponsible with the freedoms provided to
them by the Emancipation Proclamation and the Amendments to the Constitutional.
Despite common perceptions of black folly and Reconstruction failure, the era
proved to be an invaluable period which laid the ground work for African American
victories during the Civil Rights Movement. The documentary addressed the

Face Construct And Criterion-Related Validity Essay
There are differences among face, construct, and criterion related validity. Face
validity assesses a task under evaluation. A group of subjective experts evaluate
face validity (Maribo, Pedersen, Jensen, Nielsen, 2016). Face validity can be
utilized to motivate stakeholders within an organization. If stakeholders are not
supportive of the results from face validity they will become disengaged. For
example, when measuring the level of professionalism during the hiring process
questions should relate to different levels of professionalism. If not stakeholders
will not be motivated to give their opinion and the true assessment of the hiring
process will not be achieved. Face validity considers the relevance of a test as it

367, 2012). This particular validity is important when it comes to legal defensibility.
Construct validity explains how what is being studied matches the actual measure.
Criterion validity answers the question of whether a test reflects a certain set of
abilities. One way to assess criterion validity is to compare it to a known standard. A
reference is needed to determine an instrument s criterion related validity. Criterion
related validity predicts the future. If a nursing program designed a measure to assess
student learning throughout the program, a test such as the NCLEX would measure
student s ability in this discipline. If the instrument produces the same result as the
superior test the instrument has a high criterion related validity. The higher the
results the more faith stakeholders will have in the assessment tool. A criterion
related validity study is conducted by statistically correlating scores with some
measure of job performance (Biddle, p.308, 2010). Criterion related validity is most
important when it comes to predicting performance in a specific job, and predicting
future
WW1 Airplanes
The first flight occurred in 1903 when the Wright brothers famously took their
airplane for a final test flight in December. In the years after this historic flight many
people start to see the potential for airplanes in war, transportation, and shipping.
Other builders disregarded previous doubt about flying and began to replicate the
ideas of the Wright brothers in creating planes with three axes. In addition, the
approach of WWI prompted military personnel to pursue uses of airplanes as a war
machine. The airplane influenced many aspects of American culture after it s
invention including civilian life, war technology, and individual possibility. Airplanes
were mainly used for transporting mail and cargo after their initial invention... Show

She was the 16th woman to be given a pilot s license and the first to fly across the

independent and did not rely on her parents to provide for her. When she went to
visit her sister in Canada she saw wounded soldiers returning from war. This
prompted her to volunteer with the Red Cross where she met many injured pilots.
This, coupled with the sight of the Royal Flying Corps practicing, gave her a
strong admiration for aviation. In 1920 she went for her first plane ride at an
airshow and from then on she devoted herself to learning how to fly. She took spare

Imagery in Ragged Dick Essay examples
Imagery in Ragged Dick
Imagery plays a big part in the success of a novel. Different writers have different
styles. The good thing about imagery is it makes room for the reader to put things
together. The reader is allowed to interpret the story the way that they like. Ragged
Dick , Horatio Alger, Jr. did a great thingwith imagery. While reading the novel
readers had a change to envision many things that were mentioned in each chapter.
Algar interconnected the appearances of the main character to his living arrangement.
He also connected these things with the character s attitude.

This was the beginning of him changing for the better. When he got to the house the
lady was a little confessed about why someone dressed as neat as him would want to

questioned the woman, in some surprise. Dick answered in the affirmative. I haven t

Calcium Channel Blockers Research Paper
Hypertension Calcium Chanel Blockers
Calcium channel blockers are antihypertensive medications that used in treating
cardiovascular conditions. There are three types of subclasses of calcium channel
blockers which are dihydropyridines, phenylalkylamines, and benzothiazipines
(Edmund Mayhew, 2014). Medications classified as dihydropyridines are procardia,
norvasc, plendil, and cardene. These medications do not affect the cardiac conduction
system. Dihydropyridines block calcium from moving into the cell membranes of the
cardiac and smooth muscle. The cell tissue affected by these antihypertensive drugs
is the cardiac muscle, SA AV node, coronary arteries and arterioles, and the peripheral
arterioles. Calcium channel blockers contract the heart by stopping calcium ions from
going through the cell membrane during the plateau phase. This leads to failure of
the calcium ions to release large amounts of calcium into the sarcoplasmic reticulum
inside the cell. The calcium is needed to stimulate contractions by allowing the cross
bridge to form between the actin and myosin of ... Show more content on

The most recited line is, If you re blue and you don t know where to go to why don
t you go where fashion sits . This is a reference to the bored and depressed wealthy
who were practically begging for ways to spend their money. The parties and
extravengence to the extent of Gatsby, can be linked back to this desire of
expenditure. The words referring to fashion are talking about how the rich of the
time loved to display their wealth, the utmost fashion, to the poor. The next most
restated line is, Dressed up like a million dollar trooper Trying hard to look like
Gary Cooper Super duper . The first words mean that the wealthy in their expensive
clothes are promoting their class, as a soldier exhibits his country through a
uniform. The next words allude to the actor Gary Cooper who was popular around
the time Irving Berlin was writing the song. Continuing to the rest of the chorus,
the lines reference the expensive clothes that the wealthy would like to display.

Indian Gaming Regulatory Act Of 1988
Along with the Supreme Court s 1987 decision in California vs. Cabazon, the passing
of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 has made gaming a significant part of
tribal economic development. Gaming has brought about economic self
determination for Native Americans for the first time in over two hundred years
(Neath, 1995). Over two hundred of the United States544 federally recognized tribes
have established gaming on tribal lands (Neath, 1995). However, along with the
economic profits, Indian gaming has brought many Native Americans back to
reservations after many years of living off reservation.
The IGRA, or Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, gave Indians the right to regulate
gaming activities on tribal lands, given that it is not prohibited by federal law or by
the state in with it is conducted (Neath). According of Professor Robert Miller, the
gaming industry can be compared to the gold rush (Tribal Economic Development on
Steroids). From being one of the nation s poorest communities, Indian reservations
gross millions of dollars from gaming each year, and this revenue makes up 70
percent of the average tribal budget (Neath, 1995). This income is used for the
community development projects such as building schools, constructing roads, and
financial scholarships (Neath, 1995). Gaming revenue, which brings out non Indian
capital, allows Indian communities to increase their standards of living and allows
their communities to thrive. Many tribal members receive free

Dialogue In An Essay

  • 1. Dialogue In An Essay Crafting an essay on the theme of "Dialogue in an Essay" is a task that demands a delicate balance of various elements. The intricacy lies in not just presenting a discussion but doing so in a way that adds value and depth to the overall narrative. Incorporating dialogue into an essay requires a keen understanding of when, where, and how to use it effectively. One of the challenges is maintaining the flow of the essay while seamlessly integrating dialogue. It's essential to ensure that conversations are not forced, but rather contribute to the coherence and development of the central ideas. Striking the right balance between narrative and dialogue is an art that necessitates careful consideration. Furthermore, the challenge extends to the choice of dialogue itself. Crafting authentic and engaging conversations that mirror real-life interactions requires a nuanced understanding of language, tone, and context. Ensuring that each dialogue serves a purpose in advancing the essay's thesis or supporting arguments adds another layer of complexity. Additionally, one must grapple with the rules of punctuation and formatting specific to dialogue, adhering to established conventions while also allowing for creativity and expression. Striking the right balance between clarity and stylistic innovation can be a demanding task. In conclusion, writing an essay on the intricacies of incorporating dialogue poses a considerable challenge, demanding a blend of storytelling finesse, linguistic precision, and a keen awareness of the essay's overarching purpose. It's an exercise in weaving words effectively, making sure that every spoken line contributes meaningfully to the overall narrative. Yet, with careful consideration and dedication, one can navigate these challenges to create an essay that not only explores the nuances of dialogue but also exemplifies effective written communication. • 2. Women And Jews By Simone De Beauvoir And Jean-Paul Sartre From the continental European perspective shared by Simone de Beauvoir and Jean Paul Sartre, two groups would have stood out as the most historically marginalized; women and Jews. For much of European history, both Jewish people and women were denied the rights and privileges afforded to even the least privileged Christian men. They could not hold their own lands, were barred from all but a select few professions, and lived with the constant threat of organized violence ready to be turned against them if they ever stepped out of line. In a sense, both woman and Jew are used as an other for their outgroups, male and Gentile respectively, to define themselves apart from. Accordingly de Beauvoir and Sartre manage to illustrate substantial similarities between the two groups in their respective analyses that greatly affect their ultimate treatment, even as through their limited scope and personal biases. Chiefly among these similarities is how both the idea of woman and Jew are created classes, social constructs made in bad faith. While there will obviously be female humans and Jewish people, the identities of woman and Jew exist only because those who were not female and Jewish have labeled them as such. If the Jew did not exist, writes Sartre in Anti Semite and Jew, the anti Semite would invent him. (8) However, one key difference exists between the two: Jewspresent a hidden and existential threat to their foes that women never will. Even the most strident opponent
  • 3. Lack Of Prime Ministerial Power In Canada A topic of much debate in many political systems is how much power the head of state, or in some cases such as in constitutional monarchies, the head of government holds. If the leader holds too much power, the political process becomes undemocratic. Conversely if the leader has too little power, government becomes inefficient, sometimes crippling the government completely for their terms in office. In Canada, this can be seen in the effectiveness of a majority or minority government, and the abilities of the Prime Minister in each case. In the latter case, many believe that lack of prime ministerial power is attributed to the trend of ineffective minority governments because of the ability for motions of non confidence to be passed, forcing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is due to the nature of the inability to pass legislation without compromise between all parties forming the current government. Although compromise is at the center of responsible government, the inability to produce effective legislation and to govern efficiently because of the need of compromise between varying political parties also limits the ability of governments to provide their obligations to the citizens who placed them in power. These periods of governance tend to revolve around a constant power struggle over a single issue, rather than focusing on the larger affairs at hand. Again, examples in which these compromises, or rather lack of ability to make these compromises, can be seen throughout Canadian history. One such example of this was Prime Minister Joe Clark s minority Conservative government of 1979. In an attempt to ensure prosperity, Clark attempted to run the government as if it was a majority, and deliver on the platform on which he had run his election campaign. This was achieved by attempting to follow in the footsteps of the last Conservative Prime Minister, John Diefenbaker. Because of this, Clark was unable to deliver his own political agenda as

  • 5. Rapunzel By Christine Hepper The two pieces I would be talking about are Rapunzel and Tiempo . While writing Rapunzel I was inspired by a different poem, Rapunzel by Christine Hepper .Christine Hepper writes about fairy tales and teenage girl side by side. I thought that by doing something similar to that would make a great poem. So I tried to explore Rapunzel and why she had to be saved by a prince and why she could save herself. During the revision process, you wrote that I should explore what would happen if Rapunzel was a person of color instead of white and if she cut her hair off. It was hard to find something to write about with that. However I tried to write about how important hair is to people of color and what would happen if it was all cut off. Also the... Making it Tiempo would show more of a latino aspect to the title, since a lot of latinos speak spanish. What I am most proud of in this piece is that it is a spoken word, so while reading it you can see how powerful it becomes as it goes on. The tension builds up while I read it, so from that you understand what I feel and how important it is. I feel like from the last portfolio to this one I am writing more about identity and about issues that people face growing up. In Rapunzel I talked about identity through a story and hair, in He said I talked about how a girl with her boyfriend who she loved a lot cheated on her, and in Tiempo I talked about growing up Latina and time. I feel like the more risk I take and the more I open up, the better I write. I feel like while writing I am putting more feeling into it, so it comes out more

A healthy natural environment is indispensible to the wellbeing of humans everywhere in the world. From the provisioning adequate food, clean water and air, to regulating diseases, ecosystem services and human health depend on conditions of the natural environment. Links between the natural environment and human livelihood are complex. Human resource and land use are structured by limits of the environment. An example of where this has occurred is in the civilisation that once inhabited Easter Island. The history of the island has become a symbol of human induced ecological and subsequent cultural collapse. It was home to the ancient civilisation, of Polynesian decent and is most well known for the hundreds of Moai stone statues that were erected across the island by the ancient civilisation (Diamond, 2006) . It is known that the society on Easter Island was a complex society but at the time that Europeans discovered the island, the population had crashed and was almost decimated (de la Croix and Dottori, 2008). Ecological collapse is often regarded as the predominant factor, which caused the societal collapse. The limits set by Easter Islands geography presented challenges to early human settlers. The climate is cool, windy and dry compared to other pacific islands. The cooler waters resulted in a reduced availability of fish and shellfish, one of the main dietary staples for other civilisations in the pacific at that time(Diamond, 2006). The accessibility to fresh water was also difficult. The porous volcanic soils caused the water to percolate quickly. There is only one fresh water stream on the island and few fresh water springs, offshore and ponds in volcanic craters (Diamond, 2006). If you ve heard people talk about profits and losses, the chances are they are talking about an income statement. For people who haven t gone through accounting school, these statements can be all Greek to you. But understanding income statements is vital for anyone who s involved with the sector. This guide is going to explain the basics of an income statement, help you understand the terminology used in these statements and provide you with tips for analysing income statements. In crude terms, an income statement is divided into two sections:
  • 8. Personal Narrative-Marching Band Competition The Golden Triangle Looking up I could see four towering bright, blinding stadium light posts surrounding the stadium; these lights surrounded my world for twenty long minutes. My marching band had just finished our eight minute marching show, afterwards we lined up in the end zone anxiously awaiting the final scores for the twenty six bands that had performed throughout the day. My band was the last to perform which unfortunately meant we had to wait on the field for our scores in full uniform which includes: shorts, a t shirt, long black socks, black hideous marching shoes, suspender like pants and an uncomfortable jacket with Michael Jackson shoulder pads. After twelve unbearably long minutes the announcers voice echoed around the stadium, Welcome to the Golden Triangle Marching Band Competition! Sunglasses, unbelievably high temperatures, and embarrassing farmers tans are some of the realities of marching band. My band honestly was not the best in our region, for instance going into competitions we realistically knew not to expect first place, heck we were lucky to break the top ten! The... It was as if we had unanimously decided as a band to try harder and work for first place as a team. The loss of hope that had once plagued us had become obsolete in the stifling heat on the cement parking lot we practiced on daily. For the first time in my marching band experience I felt realistic hope for the Golden Triangle Competition, this was our
  • 9. Who Is Grendel In Beowulf Grendel was written by an American author known as John Gardner in 1971. This novel retells a part from the poem Beowulf; however, it is told from the view of Grendel. Throughout the novel there are a multitude of characteristics shown by Grendel. After comprehending the novel from Grendel s point of view it more pronounced that he is rather good than evil, and more so a character that is sympathized for. Many times the perspective people have is what leads them to make predictions about the characters intentions. The novel Grendel gives readers the chance to alter their perspective to the point they may believe Grendel has hopeful intentions, but executes his emotions rather terribly. Grendel is lonely, and in a way depressed because he is unable to communicate with the villagers as well as his own mom. He is completely isolated and all alone. At one point Grendel desires to be liked by the villagers, so he enters the dining hall in which they eat at (Grendel 51). After he enters the hall he receives such a negative response that he lashes out at the people (Grendel 52). Rejection can truly affect the way someone behaves. It is not for the timid or weak. Non violence is hard work. It is the willingness to sacrifice It is the patience to win. . His words inspired one young man to turn his life around and become a man of character who used his experiences to help others. In his essay CГ©sar ChГЎvez Saved My Life Daniel Nene Alejandrez tells his story of the struggle and anger towards many injustices that happen around him and his journey from channeling that anger through crime to using it to start a foundation Barrios Unidos, to help men in prison overcome poverty, and the drug and violence culture surrounding them. In his essay, Alejandrez uses key scenes from his life to convey his main theme of spiritual connection to overcome the many hardships the Latino community faces in this country. Alejandrez begins his essay with a story from his childhood. He sets up the story by giving it a time and place he is the son of a migrant worker born in a cotton field in Merigold, Mississippi. He then describes his difficult childhood using vivid language, as the son of a migrant worker he had to move many times a year and assimilate into many different schools. His family had to make ends meet with the little money they had so most of the time that meant having no shoes or one pair of pants. The social climate was also very tense, he describes it as I always remembered my experience in Texas, where

I learned that it had a grey ring around it and that the sun will look like this in approximately five billion years. It was at first quite difficult to locate but then once I angled my head a bit, it was easily located. It looked like a small cluster of gas that I was looking at. The second telescope I went to was that of Marswhich I found out t is possible to locate even without a telescope, it is just depending on where one looks at, it should be the little red dot in the sky that looks like a star. From the telescope, Mars did look quite bigger than if one were to look at it without one. The lady that was working
  • 12. The Normal Operation Of A Botnet A.Botnet Life cycle Processes involved in the normal operation of a botnet has no comprehensive approach to either the stages encompassing the life cycle, or the lack of compartmentalization between them (see Figure 1, Botnet Life cycle Taxonomy). Apart from normal operations, so far there s no qualitative analysis on how these stages should be characterized, defined, or distinguished. A proposed botnetlife cycle stage starts with conception and ends with reaching the desired malicious intent, i.e. a successful attack and can include DDoS, spam, phishing, or click fraud. Corresponding mechanisms to these stages of the botnet life cycle are typically focused on attempting to hide the botnet (communication processes, location of the bots, and botmaster), some of these methods include IP spoofing, multi hopping, polymorphism, and fast flux networks. (GarcД±a Teodoro, Macia Fernandez, RodrД±guez Gomez, 2012). Any defensive approach to overcoming a botnet is dedicated to preventing execution of a particular process in one of the botnet life cycle stages or combine processes in one or more stages. Deterring execution of a single stage in the botnet life cycle can thwart a malicious and devastating outcome. In principle, prevention of hidden mechanisms doesn t suggest deterrence of the botnet goal, but increases the probability that a botnet will be identified by a defense method. • 14. Social Inequality In The Victorian Age The Victorian Age in England was marked by extreme social inequality. However, the industrialization of England brought major changes that impacted all social classes. The Victorian Age began in 1837, when Queen Victoria took the throne. During her reign, Britain s power and wealth made England prominent around the world. Although the inequality of social classes brought hardship for many people, the industrialization in England during the Victorian Age affected all social classes. During the Victorian Age, society was structured into three classes: wealthy, middle class, and poor. Daily lives of people in each of these classes varied because of the jobs available to them. People in the upper class usually inherited their wealth. Because of this, the wealthy did not have to work, but they still enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle, including land, a large house, and fine clothes and food. Also, there were a number of aristocrats who managed large industries like mining or shipping (victorian era.org). In addition to the wealthy class, the Victorian Era was a prosperous time for the middle class. This rapidly growing class created a demand for goods and services, such as clothes and silverware, that were provided by the working class. Also, many middle class families hired servants to help with cleaning, cooking, and taking care of the children. Unlike the wealthy elite class, the middle class had to work to earn their living. They worked as bankers, railway engine drivers,
  • 15. Environmental economics For more than 30 years, there have been discussions concerning the development of the Bakun Dam in the East Malaysian state of Sarawak. If built, the dam would be the largest in South East Asia. The Bakun Dam: A Case Study indicates that generating 2400 megawatts of power, it would provide electricity for all of Sarawak, and for industries and cities in mainland Malaysia, through a cable under the South China Sea. These are the initial steps to consolidating Malaysia s economic and environmental future. Even after the project had been shelved in 1990, lobbying by its proponents continued, particularly by the Sarawak government, which urged the federal government to revive the project. Finally, in September 1993, the Malaysian cabinet approved construction of the Bakun Dam. In reviving the project, Malaysia s need for power was most often invoked as justification. By 1993 the Malaysian economy was growing by more than 8 percent per year, with electricity demand expanding even faster. The Borneo Bulletin affirms that blackouts in 1992 and 1993, and a predicted doubling of demand by 2000, were indications of a power crisis, justifying extraordinary efforts to expand supply. Project proponents also believed the Bakun Dam could help reduce dependence on fossil fuels, especially oil. Most evident however, was that this project was consistent with an energy policy relying almost entirely on supply. In Harun s argument, he referred to the quote from environmentalist Gurmit Singh (1995) to prove his theory: The concept of energy conservation and certainly its implementation is virtually absent in Malaysia. This is why Malaysia needs to complete the dam, to enhance its economic and environmental status on the worldwide scale. Furthermore, the Bakun Dam has attracted the attention of numerous international

You may think that letting your inside dog or cat outside to use the restroom is harmless. But what are they really doing while they re out there? Pets who are not fixed are more likely to search for a mate. Depending on whether the mate is fixed or not, this could lead to new litters of puppies or kittens. These new homeless animals, possibly along with your pet, are likely to end up in a shelter (if not injured or killed in traffic). How many animals housed in shelters do you think live to find a home? After a certain amount of days in the shelter without finding a home, animals are euthanized, or put down due to overpopulation. This is to make room for the newer animals coming in to give them a chance for a forever home. According to the ASPCA s website, approximately 7.6 animals enter shelters annually, and 2.7 million of those animals are euthanized. With that being said, only 35% of dogs are adopted, 31% are euthanized, and 26% return to their owner. And 37% of cats are adopted, 41% are euthanized, and 5% return to their

Results from various studies have shown that besides intelligence the ability to sequence, analyze, and remember sounds are the biggest contributors to reading achievement (Smith, 2003). In view of these finding it is important to isolate the fields within this area that will have the greatest impact and help direct the learning strategies. A study along these lines was conducted by Melby LervГҐg, Lyster, amp; Hulme. Melby LervГҐg, Lyster, amp; Hulme (2012) conducted a meta analytic study to study the relationship between phonological skills and student s reading abilities. Strengths and Weaknesses of the Geared Turbofan Engine (GTF) There are many ways one could use to improve the fuel efficiency of an aircraft. However, I would like to focus on one in particular which is the PurePower Geared Turbofan Engine by Pratt and Whitney. The Geared Turbofan Engine was first used on small private jets by Honeywell but they never advanced the technology. Even though this gearing approach would save much more fuel, it had not been tried on commercial jetliners. This was because it was a general belief that it would be too heavy and wear out too rapidly. Pratt and Whitney decided that they would be willing to experiment with this. The major challenge they had was in making the gearbox bigger. This was so that it could keep it from being torn apart if there was a shock that pulled the fan in one direction and the shaft in the other. Adding steel to increase the stiffness would have been too heavy. Eventually, after much research and development, the PurePower GTF engine was ready for testing in 2008. The engineers of Pratt and Whitney broke a prototype on purpose to see if accidents would destroy the gear. However, there was barely an effect on the

The creation of ketone bodies is accomplished through high fat intake, carbohydrate depletion and a fasting metabolism; over long periods of time. When the body is in a fasting state, it creates ketones, a by product of a fat burning metabolism. It has long been recognized that seizures often lessen or disappear during periods of fasting in some individuals with epilepsy (Richard Senelick, 2014). This fat burning metabolism is slowly become popular amongst dieters and endurance athletes. Besides the clear loss of body fat there is the increase in brain processes that create extreme amounts of clarity. Why is the ketogenic diet so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ketosis is a metabolic state where the liver produces organic molecules known as ketone bodies. Technically, the term ketonedenotes an organic molecule where a carbon atom, sandwiched between two other carbon atoms, is double bonded to an oxygen atom (Peter Attia, 2014). To reach this state the body must deplete all glucose stores including those in the liver. This can be accomplished through periods of fasting or through intake of high fat and minimal carbohydrates and sugars. Both sugars and carbohydrates are converted to glucose for the body to burn as energy or ATP. When the body is starved of glucose it must switch gears in order to continue its existence. This switch of gears is what followers of the ketogenic diet call fat assimilation. The human body under the realization that there are no stores of glucose for energy asks the liver to create ketone bodies. Those ketone bodies use lipids or fat for energy. This is the greatest benefit for dieters since the goal for most is to lose weight through fat loss. Using fat for energy is the main goal of ketosis. This is what differentiates keto dieters from conventional dieters. Conventional dieters are still considered sugar burners while keto dieters are considered fat burners. The irony of this is that even conventional dieters are looking to burn fat. This conventional mentality is to carb load and

This is true, one can not truly live life to the fullest and experience all of the things that make life beautiful if they are not willing to put themselves out there and risk being cut open. Mistakes are simply learning tools, a means of giving us higher aspirations. They are underappreciated and should be embraced rather than shunned. Without mistakes, life would be boring, then where would we be? As small children we are naturally very accident prone creatures. Everything is new and shiny and somehow we are attracted to all of the things that are potentially harmful. Our minds are designed to want what we shouldn t and to not do as we are told. Once the child has experienced the pain firsthand, it will associate the heat of the stovetop or the oven with pain. After the association has been made, the child will not want to make that particular mistake again. That s all psychobabble though. A modern day example of truthbeing used is seen in the movie The Virgin Suicides. This movie is about a group of neighborhood boys who become obsessed with the five Lisbon sisters who were strictly controlled by their overbearing, protective, religious parents. • 26. The First Ten Amendments Of The First Amendment On the cold night of March 5th, 1770, a mob of American colonists were protesting outside the Customs House in Boston. One colonist threw a snowball hitting Private Hugh Montgomery. Montgomery replied with a shot into the crowd. This led the rest of the British Army soldiers to shoot into the crowd killing five people in an event that would later be known as the Boston Massacre (Foner and Garraty). After this protest, more and more taxes were levied against the colonies, particularly regarding tea. To add, trade with nations besides Great Britain was prohibited. These affronts were met with the tarring and feathering of British tax collectors and the infamous Boston Tea Party. As a result of this, Massachussetts was essentially ruled by martial law. This finally culminated with a declaration of independence by the Second Continental Congress on July 4th, 1776. The United Statesof America was formed. Due to the British oppression, every American, including our founding founders, wanted greater protection of their rights. To accomplish this, James Madison drafted the Bill of Rights and by the end of 1791, every state had ratified the first ten amendments. The First Amendment is primary, not just because it is at the beginning, but because it articulates the First Freedom and the nature of that freedom. It states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. By connecting the freedom of religion with the freedoms of speech and press, the First Amendment showed the people of America what it is to be a human (Bill of Rights). The first part of that amendment is the result of the Founding Fathers experience with the long history of religious strife in Europe such as the French Wars of Religion, the Thirty Years War, and the Crusades. They realized that religious disagreement can be counterproductive and create setbacks in politics. It would be even worse if one religious group was favored. So, they ensured that the federal government cannot interfere in the citizen s personal

  • 40. Analysis Of Barack Obama s Waiting On The World To Change Change does not occur overnight. It takes effort from multiple lives to refine certain aspects of opinions, to amend rights that can be accessible throughout our community. Barack Obama, our first black president of the United States toiled for minorities to have a higher representation along with having their voices hearkened when they were once suppressed. Waiting on the World to Change by John Mayor demonstrates the concept of producing innovation for a better society. Along with the lyrics presented, Barack Obamatriggered amendments to certain rights, now accessed to everyone today which is revealed in his story Dreams from My Father. These two sources influenced my vision in black politics, where black leaders contribute to that change by encouraging the youth to be actively involved, resolving dropout rates among African Americans and Hispanics. Waiting on the World to Change by John Mayer with Barack Obama s Dreams from My Father changed my thinking in black politics as I first perceived the change being triggered by adults controlling the aspects of the community, but these pieces of text emphasize the importance of African Americanleaders persuading the underrepresented youth to create that change by being involved realizing the significance of role models persuading the youth to create an impact. Before I comprehended the two pieces of text that impacted my life, I assumed that adult leaders are the key factors contributing to change in society. I presumed the youth, the future of this country was not allowed to share what we anticipate benefitting the well being of our community. How we the youth, would be irritated while waiting to turn eighteen to trigger the desired change the world aspires to have. Me and all my friends, we re all misunderstood. They say we stand for nothing. This phrase is significant because the youth, including myself perceive we are worthless as a couple of grownups regulate our lives, affirming what we are not allowed to do in our lives constructing the fear of being included in society. This fear promotes the isolation of children from the community with this fear implied in their minds that they would be insulted and endangered by contributing to

Political Status of the Disputed Territories Political status of the disputed territories The political status between the nations of Israel and Palestine is a continuing crisis that began upon Israel s formation shortly after the conclusion of World War II. Many small scale wars and battles have been fought over the years killing many and intensifying the region. The political situation sees many Western forces providing economic and military support for Israel. The conflict lies in two general areas: religious idolatry and the formation of an officially recognized Palestinian state. The political status of Cyprus is fragmented and uncertain. Cyprus has been in disarray since 1974 when Turkey inserted military forces geographically and politically dividing the island nation. Since this time political tension between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots has been constant. United Nations involvement has inserted some relief but a new hydrocarbon discovery off the coast of Cyprus has reignited tensions about who has the rights to the potential economic windfall. From the Mosaic Floor: Medusa of the inner courtyard, to The Coronation of Hebe (Paolo Veronese) on the ceiling of the third floor Veronese Room, Gardner determined every inch of both the interior and exterior of the structure housing her personal collection of masterpieces. This museum was specifically designed to resemble a 15th century Venetian palazzo, inspired from the city that captured Gardner s heart and ultimate vision of her legacy (Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum). Assisted by Renaissance revival architect, Willard T. Sears, the palazzo like structure was realized in its full glory, albeit Renaissance ornamentation had no logical place in early 20th century Boston, Massachusetts. However, Isabella Stewart Gardners fascination with the Renaissance was not solely because the works and buildings were visually pleasing. A palazzo, for a wealthy family, was a lasting symbol of status. Gardner s choice to create a museum inspired by this Renaissance structure demonstrates how this Renaissance mindset can be translated into her modern context when crafting her own legacy. The exterior of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is drastically more modest than the interior. In the same fashion as the traditional palazzos of the Renaissance, the masonry is smooth and understated. The flat roof resembles that of the Palazzo

The ability to win public support can be just as important as the ability to fight the war. HISTORY OF WARTIME PROPAGANDA Wartime propaganda has been a major influence in many, if not all, of the major wars. One of the first known uses of war propaganda was by Alexander the Great. After being forced to retreat in a battle Alexander the Great realized that it would be a disadvantage to show he was weak and had to retreat. He overcame this problem by using propaganda to intimidate the opposing army. Alexander s army made oversized armor and helmets and left them behind as they retreated. His intent was that the opposing army would be intimidated and not pursue his army because the oversized armor made Alexander s army look like giants (Labash, 20 Dec, 2001). A reference is needed to determine an instrument s criterion related validity. Criterion related validity predicts the future. If a nursing program designed a measure to assess student learning throughout the program, a test such as the NCLEX would measure student s ability in this discipline. Gaming has brought about economic self determination for Native Americans for the first time in over two hundred years (Neath, 1995). Over two hundred of the United States544 federally recognized tribes have established gaming on tribal lands (Neath, 1995).
