Goldieblox Ethics Paper
One of GoldieBlox s strengths is their concept and premise of the company. The CEO, Debbie
Sterling, attempts to break cultural norms. She attempts to disrupt gender roles. In the textbook,
Marketing: An Introduction, the authors Gary Armstrong and Phil Kotler, describes GoldieBlox future
possibly as, a new kind of toy aisle at your local supercenter (528). Other toy companies aren t
attempting to change the toy industry like this. Another strength of GoldieBlox is that they are
innovative. One of their main characters is a cute, blonde girl with a tool belt. This is a strength
because toys aren t like this. A very girly character doing something that typically a man does, use
tools or build things. These are the norms that Sterling is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the section of the textbook, the authors write about critics said Goldieblox s toys were too simple.
Kids toys should be complex enough so it won t bore them. An interesting experiment to complete, to
time how fast girls at different ages can complete a Goldieblox. Also give the girls a popular stem like
toy like lincoln logs, and ask them to build a house. We can compare these two sets of time. If the
times are differ greatly at each ages, we can infer that the faster completed toy is less complex. In
addition, an assumption we can make is that the price is comparable to a similar toy, lincoln logs
again. On Amazon, a standard set of Lincoln Logs is around $40 (Amazon). Therefore we assume
GoldieBlox is around $40. Which it is.
Goldieblox whole premise of attempting to break the down the gender barriers of the pink and blue
aisle but this may be a cover up for not a very good toy. This is where a problem lies for the toy
company. The quality of product does not seem like a top priority for Goldieblox. In order to reach
their full potential, more emphasis from Goldieblox must be put on quality, and also how fun your

New York City Narrative
People call New York City, the city of dreams, and I agree with them. I ve lived in Queens, New York
for 11 years exactly. While I have lived there I have experienced the most exuberant time of my life. I
empathically think that New York is the place to be when you are feeling lethargic and sluggish.
The bright lights are flashing, and Manhattan is glowing with life. There is the Empire State Building
that stands tall, and the Statue of Liberty is beautiful at night. New York had many places for me to
discover and each time it was an adventure. For example, every time on Christmas my family went to
see the big Christmas tree in the middle of Manhattan. About 1,000 people come to see the tree, and it
would be a miracle to not get lost. Even

You may perhaps ask who these rangers are?...in short they are created Indians, the only proper troops

Robert Rogers is one of the most influential figures in military history and tactics. The lessons he

AN INVESTIGATION OF FEEDBACK Zhexun Chen University College London 6th January 2015
ABSTRACT The purpose of this report is to investigate the property of feedback in a multi stage
amplifier. The report describes the frequency response and time of distortion occurrence of open and
close loop in their linear operating region. In the method of contrast, the advantages and disadvantages
of feedback can be easily summarized. Besides the things above, practical amplifier has some
operating constrains. The report also illustrates the possible constrains that are current limit, slew rate
and saturation of the output at supply rails. The final investigation of this report is the relationship

Should Sixteen Year Olds Be Able To Drive Essay
Should sixteen year olds be able to drive? The Government has recently been considering and
debating whether or not to raise the legal driving age to eighteen years old from sixteen. The
Government should not raise the legal driving age to eighteen. There are multiple instances where
teens cannot make it to after school functions or end up waiting for a very long time after school to get
picked up because they cannot drive. Not all teens are bad drivers. They are more common sometimes
to get into accidents, but not all teens are the stereotypical kind. Lastly, teens deserve to have some
freedom for what some people claim are the best four years of their lives. Teens have a right to be able
to drive, and the Government should not take that right away in America. Teenagers have many
instances where they are stuck after school for long periods of time or cannot make it to places
because they do not have a ride. In the instance of an after school function such as sports practice,
teens can have a few instances where they cannot make it to practice because they do not have a ride
home. Sports practices are mandatory, and if someone is gone a few days, it will hinder his play and
the overall team s performance. There are similar instances such as family gatherings and other school

Budget Deficit
Budget Deficit
For many decades, there has been a concern for the deficit within the United States. Many politicians,
authors, newscasters, and citizens have expressed their distress in order to resolve or control the issue.
Keynesian economic theory states that running a budget deficit is okay, as long as the deficit is not
exorbitantly large and is not carried for a long period of time. Even though many experts agree with
this notion, having a deficit at all is important to the present and future economic stability of a country.
For the most part, the uncontrolled increases in spending and reckless tax cuts in the past have
damaged the federal budget, which the White House and Congress have allowed to occur. President
Bush has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, after the economy has recovered, the deficit becomes a problem. In the event that the
current deficit is not handled properly, the country will begin to see the weakening of the production
of goods and services, in turn forcing wages to decrease. Interest rates will rise, which will make it
harder for households and businesses to acquire loans. These factors will increase the strain on the
American public and unfortunately lower the ability of the government to intervene, due to the already
high deficit. In addition, interest obligations of the federal government are slated to grow from $155
billion in 2004 to $514 billion in 2014, or by $359 billion. These extra costs are the result of both
rising interest rates and increased borrowing by the federal government. In order to sustain the
economic power and prosperity that the United States has created, major change must be implemented
by government leaders, not by career politicians. When a budget is in deficit there are only two ways,
other than faster growth in the economy, to bring it into balance. Spending must be cut or revenue
increased. Obviously, cutting spending to many of the current governmental programs is difficult
because they have already been implemented and deemed necessary. Increasing taxes is also a difficult
issue for politicians to handle and for the public to accept. There needs to be a healthy mix of these
two options that keeps the economy powerful, while

E Voting And Its Effect On Voting
Introduction
E voting is an e government concept that uses the Internet to allow people to vote. The use of e voting
is usually applied by countries and companies. In companies, this use of e voting can be used in
shareholder meetings or other instances where it is not physically possible for all individuals with a
vote to be present.
E voting is a new concept that has recently been used by countries that are not willing to dedicate the
necessary funds to provide paper votes. The use of e voting eliminates the use of paper and ensures
that voter turnout will be higher as it will eliminate issues with travelling to the voting venue and
waiting in any lines that may occur. In addition, the process of tallying votes will be far faster since e
voting will eliminate the manual counting of votes as well as issues such as the vote counting machine
malfunctioning. E votes will be counted using software designed to tally votes.
The concept of e voting has been analyzed to ensure that it is a fair process. The fairness of this new
type of voting will be critical to its acceptance. However, there is a portion of the population which
feels that the system can be easily manipulated and argue that the Internet is vulnerable to hacker
attacks, something that can lead to an invalid and unfair result. With advanced technology, it should be
relatively easy for IT experts to devise ways that will ensure that the system will not be hacked.

Gender In Northanger Abbey
Jane Austen writes her novel Northanger Abbey surrounding the protagonist, Catherine Morland, a
young girl, living within the Regency Period. Women at this time were seen as subordinate to men,
and were taught to seek a husband for wealth and status. From the very first page of the novel,
however, we see that Austen does not depict Catherine Morland as a typical woman of this time. Jane
Austen writes the character of Catherine Morland as a character pushing the boundaries for women of
this time. Jane Austen voiced heavily in her works the idea of women s rights, and disagreed heavily
on the typical gender roles in society that women such as Catherine Morland were to conform to.
Austen uses literary elements such as point of view and characterization to write the character of
Catherine in such a way to support her ideals against stereotypical ... Show more content on

These devices noted in the novel, help support the notion that Austen rejects the conformity of females
during these periods to social norms in a patriarchal society, writes her character in a way to
emphasize her beliefs.
In the beginning of the novel, we see how Austen introduces Catherine Morland as a heroine within
the first few lines of the novel. This to the reader indicates to us that Austen will portray her character
in a different manner than the other females, in order to support her idea of Catherine being a feminist
of her time. No one who had ever seen Catherine Morland in her infancy, would have supposed her
born to be an heroine (p. 5). Jane Austen supports the idea of the rejection of stereotypical gender
roles of the time not only through the way Catherine behaves and the way she

Inductive Learning Or Category Learning
People learn new information through the induction of categories, allowing for the recognition that
different stimuli are the same in a given way. Inductive learning involves recognition and
understanding of the similarities and differences among and between stimuli. To learn a new category
of information, exemplars belonging to a given category are conceptualized and grouped as belonging
to that category. Such learning is fundamental in human cognition, enabling persons to categorize
novel exemplars as instances of a given category or concept (Birnbaum, 2013). In a typical study
conducted on the topic of inductive learning or category learning, students are presented with a set of
exemplars belonging to a particular category and are subsequently asked to identify and induce a
general concept pertaining to the given set of observed exemplars (Zulkiply, McLean, Burt, Bath,
2012). Such exemplars may include nonsense syllables, words, sentences, pictures and faces
(Ebbinghaus, 1985/1913; Glenberg Lehmann, 1980; Rothkopf Coke, 1966; Hintzman Rogers, 1973;
Cornell, 1980). Research on inductive learning shows that participants learn category similarities and
category differences from the way in which study stimuli are presented to those participants.
In earlier studies on inductive learning, researchers examined the benefits of category learning for
education. Researchers focused on how to maximize participants performance in category learning
related tasks. In two such

Only one minor American passenger line had flourished for any length of time Aeromarine Airways.
After a number of widely publicized accidents in the ocean off of Florida, Aeromarine was in decline,
and was also turning the financial community against investments in airline enterprises. Americans
remained skeptical about air travel, and while not as fast as planes, ground transportation was much
safer. There were no strong objections however to improving an existing government service. So it
happened that organized air transport in the U.S. started with flying the mail. And the way the early
airmail service developed provided the springboard that would enable American commercial aviation,
by the late 1920s, to catch up with the Europeans and then to surpass them (Air Mail 158).
The air freight industry was a dull and unpromising business until the 1960 s when commercial
airlines jumped into the competition in an all out effort to attract business from the nation s industrial
firms. Commercial airlines struggled to make a profit. They were convinced that putting cargo in the
extensive belly space below the passenger deck could be a lucrative profit center. Delta, Eastern and
United and others continued their all cargo service during the remainder of that decade despite
questions about the profitability of such service. Most of the carriers lost money continuously from
1961 through 1973 and largely

Disadvantages Of Ant Colony Optimization
Abstract In this paper an efficient hybrid optimization approach is used to solve the optimal power
flow problem. In the proposed approach particle swarm optimization along with ant colony
optimization is used for setting of control variables for optimal power flow problem. The proposed
approach is tested and examined in standard IEEE 30 bus test system. The various objective functions
involved are fuel cost minimization, voltage profile improvement and transmission loss reduction.
This proposed approach overcomes the disadvantages of ant colony optimization such as premature
convergence and stagnating output. Keywords voltage stability; fuel cost; loss; optimal power flow;

ANT COLONY OPTIMIZATION Ant colony optimization (ACO) is an evolutionary and adaptive
algorithm that was introduced by Marco Dorigo in 1992.This ant colony optimization algorithm is
inspired by behavior of real ant colonies. The ant when searching food move in random direction.Once
the ant finds the food source,it evaluates the quantity and quality of food.It takes certain amount of
food to the nest.During this process, the ant deposits a chemical called pheromone as a trail on the
ground during the return path. The quantity of pheromone deposited is based on the quantity and
quality of the food available.HEnce this would guide other ants towards the food providing an indirect
communication. The pheromone trails allows the ants to identify the shortest path between the ant nest
and the food source. This above technique is used for optimization

Gothic Cinema And The Movie The Conjuring
In life, some people prefer to watch movies, and some people prefer to read books. Then there are
some who love both movies and books. However, when one genre is portrayed in cinema and in
literature, it is easy to compare the two. Are they complementary or are they in opposition to each
other? In terms of gothic cinema and literature, they are both complementary to one another. In the
two movies, The Conjuring and The Skeleton Key, gothic cinema proves to go hand in hand with the
style of textual gothic and they both show to have a strong aesthetic force. In the pieces of gothic
literature, The Falls, The Book of Blood, and Amityville Horror, they are all very strong gothic pieces
which all have a strong aesthetic force. In the movie, The Conjuring, gothic cinema proves to go hand
in hand with the style of textual gothic and it has a strong aesthetic force. In this movie, it portrays
many aspects of traditional gothic literature. For example, the element of the supernatural is the main
part of this movie. By making the center of this movie about supernatural occurrences, it goes hand in
hand with textual gothic. In textual gothic, there is almost always some type of supernatural element,
even if it is as small as in The Castle of Otranto. However, instead of having a small supernatural
element, The Conjuring provides the audience with extremely terrifying and real supernatural
components. For example, one terrifying moment in this movie is when the daughter, Nancy,

Abuse And Neglect
Abuse is something that has been happening for a while now and seems to be a recurring problem.
People are not aware of this problem because they do not step up and speak up for themselves. In

Domestic abuse is something that happens to a lot of people, and is very common. As stated by the

Ratification Of The Emancipation Proclamation
In 1862, Abraham Lincoln formally recognized that he needed a clever tactic to address the institution
of slavery without either side thinking that he was favoring one nation over the other. Lincoln knew
that he needed to have a moderate strategy because a more aggressive policy would alienate Border
State Unionists and War Democrats whose support he saw as essential to the Union war effort,
according one a class reading. However, after trying to negotiate with the Confederacy over the course
of several months, the president s only way to combat the division was to draft the Emancipation
Proclamation. The events leading up to the ratification and enforcement of the Proclamation prove that
freeing the slaves was a long, arduous process that affected both sides (the Union and the
Confederacy) in several ways over the following years of the war. The most prominent effect of
Lincoln passing the Emancipation Proclamation was that it made the war about slavery. Though there
was much controversy in the first few months over what actually caused the Civil War, ratifying and
issuing the final Proclamation officially shifted the focus from states right and the reach of the federal
government to the race struggle between the white and the enslaved. Almost instantly, the
Emancipation Proclamation created a deeper divide between the Union and the Confederacy. The
Confederates assumed that this was Lincoln s original war aim and attacked him with constant
criticism and disapproval.

Essay On American Population
The American population is getting older which presents us with many challenges but also present us
with potential opportunities. With the length of life and quantity and fraction of older persons rise in
most industrialized and many evolving nations, a crucial question is whether this population will be
accompanied by continued or better quality health, an improving quality of life, and adequate social
and cost effective resources. This answer lies in the ability of peoples and societies, as well as modern
social, governmental, financial, and health service delivery systems, to provide optimum assistance to
older persons. The significant policy worries pertinent to health and long life are the impending

A drop in net immigration to the United States is a key factor that has contributed to the aging of the
US population. According to the U.S. census Bureau, there have been a drop in immigration levels in
the United States , which, mean that a smaller share of U.S. population growth can directly attribute to
immigration similar to natural increase these can also be related to jobs losses that are normally filled
by immigrants such as construction jobs, and manufacturing jobs. Declining fertility rates are also a
key factor in the United States. In the past the 18 and under have exceeded the 65 and older, but now
have declined by 190,000 per the Census Bureau in 2010 and 2011 while the elderly have increased by
917,000. Working age adults, and those in childbearing ages, is also down . There is also a decline in
fertility rates as well, they estimated 4 billion birth between 2010 and 2011 which is down from the

Physics of a Kayak (Qayaq) Essay
Qayaqs, now known as kyaks, were used by the Yup ik Eskimos of Southwest Alaska. The Qayaq is a
symbol of the Yup ik culture. It symbolizes the significance of subsistence and using the surrounding
resources to survive. This vessel also represents the intelligence and ingenuity of the Yup ik people
developing and designing a water craft that was swift, quiet, and could withstand harsh water
turbulence. They were used as a mode of transportation for subsistence hunting and gathering. They

The beam of approximately 30 inches gave the kyak excellent stability and combined with a sealable
waterproof gut skin parka and one or two recovery techniques, made it very seaworthy ( Zimmerly,
40). The wood used was drift wood, and was steamed and bent into the prefered shape. The pegs to
hold the ribs in place were made out of specially selected driftwood or caribou antler. The seal skin
was removed from any hair, dried, and then soaked in urine and rain water to make it flexible enough
to sew. Then the skins sewn together with sinew on the outside, and then re sewn on the inside with
dried beach grass to make sure it was waterproof. The skins are then lashed onto the frame and then
oiled with seal oil and then caulked with a mixture of moss and seal oil. (Delta Discovery) The shape
of a qayaq is the most important characteristic to determine whether it will flow well in the water.
When a qayaq floats, it displaces an amount of water that is equal to its weight because water is
incompressible. When the qayaq is moving, it displaces more water. The amount of displacement
depends on the weight of the qayaq and the speed it is moving. If the path of the water was blocked,
say by a flat front, more energy would be needed to move the qayaq. This is why streamlining, or
laminar flow is important and needs to be considered when looking at the physics of a qayaq.

Sylvia Plath
In Sylvia Plath s Daddy, and Lady Lazarus, Plath displays her deepest emotions and concerns. Her
beliefs completely contradicts her fathers so she has to deal with a lot of negative emotions throughout
her life. Both of these poems were both written at the end of Plath s life and really show her state of

attempts. Daddy, and Lady Lazarus, by Sylvia Plath are the closing notes to Plath s grudges towards

In lines 43 47 she says that she dies exceptionally well and she does it as though it feels real. This
indicated that she is indeed depressed and feels dead to the world and to herself (Plath 1). On the other
side, in lines 79 83 of Lady Lazarus, Plath says, Herr God, Herr Lucifer. Beware beware. Out of the
ash I rise with my red hair (Plath 1). She says this as if she has risen from the dead. This could be
symbolic of her overcoming her feelings towards he father and moving on with her life. Herr is
German for mister, so in complete English, Plath is saying, Mister God, Mister Lucifer... She
symbolically tells God and Lucifer to beware, because she is rising from the dead with her red hair.
After all of this time, Sylvia Plath s burdens eventually became too heavy for her to carry, and she

Technology Is An Evolving Tool With Many Purposes
Technology is an evolving tool with many purposes. Its usefulness carries over from fields like
Information Technology (IT) to other business fields like accounting or human resources. Technology
can help a business become more efficient and have more accurate information. It can also help with
data analysis to create more accurate and useful reports for stockholders and upper levels of
management to make decisions about a company. Every year technology continues to change and new
technology and software trends emerge. Over the past decade Optical Character Recognition has
become an emerging technology and is now being used in many fields to aid businesses and business
processes.
Optical character recognition (OCR) is a technology that allows images of handwritten and typed text
to be transferred into machine encoded text that can then be downloaded into an enterprise data
system allowing documents to be edited and searched. OCR technology also allows for processes such
as cognitive computing, machine translation, key data entry, and text mining which are other advanced
emerging technologies. Beginning versions of OCR technology required computer training of each
individual character one at a time. Today, this technology is able to recognize various fonts and
support different types of digital images and file inputs. OCR was originally developed to assist those
with sight impediments to help them be able to read printed information because when a file is

dates of different events. The book also shows maps in the beginning that help the reader to get a
better idea of the geography of the area in the past times along with genealogical charts that give a
clear picture of Muhammad s gene . It s a well written book for an intelligent person who wishes to be
informed.
The main idea or it can be called an argument that Armstrong put forth was to break the wrong image
of the west about the Holy Prophet. She starts describing Muhammad s rising success as a skilled and
respected politician; Armstrong mentions that the Christian world has always judged this part of the
prophet s life with distrust. The Western view has traditionally seen Muhammad s political success as
proof that he was an impostor using religion as a means to power. To explain this attitude, Armstrong
offers the following insight:
Because the Christian world is dominated by the image of the crucified Jesus, who said that his
kingdom was not of this world, we tend to see failure and humiliation as the hallmark of a religious
leader. We do not expect our spiritual heroes to achieve a dazzling success in mundane terms. (p. 164)
Armstrong depicts Muhammad (saw) in glowing colors, even when she admits his wrongdoings. In
the 8th chapter, Holy War , Armstrong recounts the massacre and summary executions of the

Case Study on the Apple Lawsuit against Samsung:
Intellectual property is defined as a work or invention that is the result of creativity, such as a
document or a design, to which one has rights and for which one may apply for a
patent/copyright/trademark.
Apple has succeeded in winning a lawsuit against Samsung. This patent war between the two leading
smart phone companies, ended up in Samsung having to pay apple more than $1bn in damages. This is
a result of Samsung having supposedly infringed some of the iPhone and iPad maker s patents. This
case wanted eight of Samsungs smart phones to be banned from the market. Some intellectual rights
violated include the bounce back feature of the Apple icons, as well as the ... Show more content on

Samsungs steady increase of market share, would takeover Apple in the long term, and so by filing
such a lawsuit, Apple would put a halt to this.
Mysteriously, the question of Is it possible for Apple and Samsung to work hand in hand? arises. To
begin with, these two companies have been enemies for a long period of time. Apple has always been
looking for ways to trap Samsung, and Samsung has been trying to create better technology then
Apple. These two companies, especially Apple seem to have extreme hatred going on between them. It
can be seen that they closely watch each other s steps looking for gaps and mistakes to complain
about. These two companies are some of the top Smartphone companies, contributing in fierce
competition, each hurrying to bring out the latest technology. In addition, Apple has filed another
lawsuit after the current one, showing a fierce battle. This could conclude that there is no way that
these two companies can be seen working together, as both of them want to be winners. But if these
two companies were to walk together hand in hand, one of them would have to give in to the other. As
Apple has won the patent lawsuit, Samsung could not only pay the damages caused, but they could
bring in a settlement of shared profits. This is where Samsung would still be allowed to sell its
technology, and Apple would own the intellectual property rights. Samsung could either pay a
monthly fee to Apple for using the patent, or Apple would

Abstract
Crime scene yellow tape is a well known sight. In order to preserve the integrity of the evidence of a
crime scene, human contact should be avoided. Crime scenes are immediately sealed off, preventing
the public from seeing a gruesome sight as well as preventing anyone, including police officers and
other investigators from trampling the crime scene and contaminating the evidence. Criminal

Today, more than ever, the quality of evidence in criminal cases is scrutinized because of
contamination. Contamination is the introduction of something that physically corrupts a substance at
a crime scene that was not previously there; it comes in many forms and most often times comes from
the humans who investigate a crime scene. It is imperative that prevention of cross contamination is
implemented when gathering evidence. Several of the more sensitive forensic techniques such as trace
analysis, bloodspatter interpretation, and DNA comparison are not being used to their fullest potential.
Items of physical crime scene evidence are not always visible to the naked eye and may be easily
overlooked so deliberate and methodical approach to collection and preservation of evidence is
essential. Prosecutors have lost cases due to crime scene contamination; this could be prevented by
simple and productive behaviors. The U.S. Supreme Court, in a leading case on physical evidence,
stated: Physical evidence cannot be wrong; it cannot perjure itself; it cannot be wholly absent. Only its
interpretation can err. Only human failure to find it, study and understand it can diminish its value.

The Hot Zone Summary | Part 1, Chapter 3 Diagnosis Summary
Several years later, the author visits with Dr. David Silverstein, who has gained a huge reputation in
Nairobi. Silverstein relates a 2 a.m. phone call that informed him that Dr. Musoke s blood tested
positive for Marburg, a virus about which little is known. It was named after a town in Germany
where, in 1967, citizens contracted the virus from monkeys transported from Uganda to a local
laboratory. Many of the monkeys had been brought in by a trader who was more interested in money
than the health of the animals.
The virus is different from most because rather than being ball shaped, it is a filovirus, or has tendrils
like hair or worms that tangle together. They can also roll up into loops, a very unique trait. The other
well known filovirus is Ebola. Marburg kills one in four humans who receive medical treatment and is
so dangerous that the international community immediately tries to identify the source. The best they
can do is to hypothesize that it was a hot island in western Africa populated by sick monkeys that were
trapped and sold in other countries. This is also a popular theory about the origin of HIV and AIDS.
The viruses mutate enough to spread from monkeys to humans and can have a catastrophic effect.

The Amendment Of The Rights Of Those Accused Of A Crime

Review Of My Mind
Before watching Temple Grandin, I only knew of the little details that we had discussed in class, and
hearing stories of parents whom I know that have a child with autism. In my mind autism was
something small , only knowing a little less than a handful of people that have autism or have children
or family members with autism. With my little knowledge of the prominent disorder , the image of
autism were ones of those which I had heard stories, such as little to no speaking, continuous routines,
limited relationships, and anger. To me this was the definition of autism. Then the movie completely
opened my mind to things that I didn t know. Autism is not the same all around, every child s disorder
is different. Right off the bat, the movie really made my mind think. When temple is standing in the
room and looks very tall, and then moves to the other side and she gets smaller. I immediately
compared it to autism, and how just because the image appears one way, doesn t mean all images are
the same. Just as she was tall and got shorter the rage of autism varies, and what you see on the
outside isn t always what is going on the inside. This movie made that point very clear. In the begging
of the movie, temple goes to live with her aunt for the summer before she started college to hep her
get her mind off of things. You can see she has a hard time communicating, and needs a routine such
as her name on her door so she knows its her room. And if that norm or routine is

The Pianist Invasion Scene
In the film The Pianist , directed by Roman Polanski, three important scenes are the invasion scene,

main points in the movie. Roman Polanski, a Holocaust survivor himself, uses colour, symbolism,
music, lighting, and camera techniques to display the key ideas and purpose of the film, survival and
the re creation of one man s struggle respectively. The film is heavily influenced by Polanski s
personal experience, making it very vivid through the use of low key editing to rebuild the story

important because Szpilman is facing the opposite way to what he was in the invasion scene when he
was on the piano; this is to show that Szpilman s life has turned around. The ragged and dirty costume
also makes the audience draw a comparison to the invasion scene where he has an expensive looking,
clean, sophisticated suit on, also emphasising that his life has gotten significantly worse. We then see
Hosenfeld back away from the piano and sit down to watch Szpilman play. This makes the audience
realise that Hosenfeld is not going to kill Szpilman as he is a good German, showing Polanski s idea
of good Germans and bad Germans and furthering the idea of the piano being his saviour, because we
do not know what Hosenfeld would have done if Szpilman was not the amazing pianist he is. This is
an example of the human race wanting to survive, and that we come across many trials and tests in our
lives and when it comes down to it, we will pull

Walt Disney The Old Mill
The Old Mill
77 years later and it is still as emotionally resonant, and artistically beautiful as ever. The feeling was
so strange, marveling at the tone and storytelling of The Old Mill. I have never felt more driven than I
had in animation. I wanted the Old Mill to stand tall when the storm stood still. The feeling was
magical.
The Old Mill is a 1937 Silly Symphony cartoon produced by Walt Disney, directed by Wilfred
Jackson, and scored by Leigh Harline. The film depicts a natural community of animals, populating an
old abandoned windmill in the countryside, and how they deal with a severe thunderstorm that nearly
destroyed their homes.
During this time, animation is in a transitional period from the silent films of black and white, to ...

Besides setting the groundwork for Walt Disney s future animated films, the cartoon really enlighten
the possibilities on how animation can be portrayed. Sure, Disney has held an artistic standard of
realism in his cartoons, but never on imitating nature and its animals, capturing them in their natural
habitat. In conjunction to the advancements to colored animation and sound, The Old Mill
traditionally became a piece of art capturing nature in its worst state, a thunderstorm. Animation was
originally created through imitating consciousness, and now nature. Interesting enough, Disney s
animators were assigned to study animals. Imagine the time and effort to draw an animal enough times
to recreate the same of similar body structure in multiple angles. I cannot say anymore: The Old Mill
really resonated me. It is a beautiful piece of art that still holds up in this modern age of animation.
The techniques used to create The Old Mill, is commonly used in modern animation. While the size,
space, and simplicity used to animate may differ, the techniques are there. I would also argue that The
Old Mill was the forefront of a technological advancement. While multiplane cameras were used in
the past, Disney s multiplane camera allowed the use of seven panels of artwork and a movable
camera. Multiplane cameras added a level of depth that was never before seen in animation and
fluidity. Animating rain, wind, lightning,

Spike Jonze
Spike Jonze is a well known American actor, screenwriter, producer and director. His work includes
commercials, music videos, television, and film. One of his films, however, stands out to the world.
Her was directed, produced and written by Jonze in 2013, and made his solo screenwriting debut. The
film established groundbreaking production design. Her uncovers a bright and vibrant future
populated by human friendly technologies. In a journal by Hugh Hart, he interviews the production
designer K.K. Barrett. Hart asks, Why no gloom or doom? Barrett answers with, There are a number
of films that cover that very well so we didn t need to go there. This is a pleasant, soft future where
everything is designed to everybody s personal taste (Hart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1 , but the theme of the film is about humanity, not technology. In a journal written by Kyle
VanHemert, he also interviews production designer, K.K. Barrett. Barrett says, We decided that the
movie wasn t about technology, or if it was, that the technology should be invisible (VanHemert 2). It
shows that someone is almost never truly alone, yet cannot escape loneliness. This concept reflects on
what society seems like today. We have the world at our fingertips with technology and social media.
A virtual connection to another human being is only a couple clicks away, with our smartphones and
other devices on hand. The total number of social networking applications astonishes the mind,
whether it s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, FaceTime, and many others. Technology enables
our connection with other people, yet it s never really enough. Some of us still feel empty and lonely,
an unsettling feeling of disconnect. Technology is enjoyable and we are contented, but there is still
loneliness. Theodore became extremely lonely through a divorce with his wife Catherine. He spends a
significant amount of time thinking about her, and there are several flashbacks throughout the film
showing Theodore s blissful relationship with her. He is dwelling in the present, but he is somehow
stuck in the past. In the beginning of the film, he can t sleep and he engages in a futuristic physicality
of phone sex, but without the actual intimacy.

  • 2. Goldieblox Ethics Paper One of GoldieBlox s strengths is their concept and premise of the company. The CEO, Debbie Sterling, attempts to break cultural norms. She attempts to disrupt gender roles. In the textbook, Marketing: An Introduction, the authors Gary Armstrong and Phil Kotler, describes GoldieBlox future possibly as, a new kind of toy aisle at your local supercenter (528). Other toy companies aren t attempting to change the toy industry like this. Another strength of GoldieBlox is that they are innovative. One of their main characters is a cute, blonde girl with a tool belt. This is a strength because toys aren t like this. A very girly character doing something that typically a man does, use tools or build things. These are the norms that Sterling is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the section of the textbook, the authors write about critics said Goldieblox s toys were too simple. Kids toys should be complex enough so it won t bore them. An interesting experiment to complete, to time how fast girls at different ages can complete a Goldieblox. Also give the girls a popular stem like toy like lincoln logs, and ask them to build a house. We can compare these two sets of time. If the times are differ greatly at each ages, we can infer that the faster completed toy is less complex. In addition, an assumption we can make is that the price is comparable to a similar toy, lincoln logs again. On Amazon, a standard set of Lincoln Logs is around $40 (Amazon). Therefore we assume GoldieBlox is around $40. Which it is. Goldieblox whole premise of attempting to break the down the gender barriers of the pink and blue aisle but this may be a cover up for not a very good toy. This is where a problem lies for the toy company. The quality of product does not seem like a top priority for Goldieblox. In order to reach their full potential, more emphasis from Goldieblox must be put on quality, and also how fun your product ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. New York City Narrative People call New York City, the city of dreams, and I agree with them. I ve lived in Queens, New York for 11 years exactly. While I have lived there I have experienced the most exuberant time of my life. I empathically think that New York is the place to be when you are feeling lethargic and sluggish. The Government has recently been considering and debating whether or not to raise the legal driving age to eighteen years old from sixteen. The Government should not raise the legal driving age to eighteen. There are multiple instances where teens cannot make it to after school functions or end up waiting for a very long time after school to get picked up because they cannot drive. Not all teens are bad drivers. They are more common sometimes to get into accidents, but not all teens are the stereotypical kind. Lastly, teens deserve to have some freedom for what some people claim are the best four years of their lives. Teens have a right to be able to drive, and the Government should not take that right away in America. Teenagers have many instances where they are stuck after school for long periods of time or cannot make it to places because they do not have a ride. In the instance of an after school function such as sports practice, teens can have a few instances where they cannot make it to practice because they do not have a ride home. Many politicians, authors, newscasters, and citizens have expressed their distress in order to resolve or control the issue. Keynesian economic theory states that running a budget deficit is okay, as long as the deficit is not exorbitantly large and is not carried for a long period of time. Even though many experts agree with this notion, having a deficit at all is important to the present and future economic stability of a country. For the most part, the uncontrolled increases in spending and reckless tax cuts in the past have damaged the federal budget, which the White House and Congress have allowed to occur. President Bush has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, after the economy has recovered, the deficit becomes a problem. In the event that the current deficit is not handled properly, the country will begin to see the weakening of the production of goods and services, in turn forcing wages to decrease. Interest rates will rise, which will make it harder for households and businesses to acquire loans. These factors will increase the strain on the American public and unfortunately lower the ability of the government to intervene, due to the already high deficit. In addition, interest obligations of the federal government are slated to grow from $155 billion in 2004 to $514 billion in 2014, or by $359 billion. These extra costs are the result of both rising interest rates and increased borrowing by the federal government. In order to sustain the economic power and prosperity that the United States has created, major change must be implemented by government leaders, not by career politicians. When a budget is in deficit there are only two ways, other than faster growth in the economy, to bring it into balance. Spending must be cut or revenue increased. Obviously, cutting spending to many of the current governmental programs is difficult because they have already been implemented and deemed necessary. Increasing taxes is also a difficult issue for politicians to handle and for the public to accept. There needs to be a healthy mix of these two options that keeps the economy powerful, while ... • 8. E Voting And Its Effect On Voting Introduction E voting is an e government concept that uses the Internet to allow people to vote. The use of e voting is usually applied by countries and companies. In companies, this use of e voting can be used in shareholder meetings or other instances where it is not physically possible for all individuals with a vote to be present. E voting is a new concept that has recently been used by countries that are not willing to dedicate the necessary funds to provide paper votes. The use of e voting eliminates the use of paper and ensures that voter turnout will be higher as it will eliminate issues with travelling to the voting venue and waiting in any lines that may occur. In addition, the process of tallying votes will be far faster since e voting will eliminate the manual counting of votes as well as issues such as the vote counting machine malfunctioning. E votes will be counted using software designed to tally votes. The concept of e voting has been analyzed to ensure that it is a fair process. The fairness of this new type of voting will be critical to its acceptance. However, there is a portion of the population which feels that the system can be easily manipulated and argue that the Internet is vulnerable to hacker attacks, something that can lead to an invalid and unfair result. Women at this time were seen as subordinate to men, and were taught to seek a husband for wealth and status. From the very first page of the novel, however, we see that Austen does not depict Catherine Morland as a typical woman of this time. Jane Austen writes the character of Catherine Morland as a character pushing the boundaries for women of this time. Jane Austen voiced heavily in her works the idea of women s rights, and disagreed heavily on the typical gender roles in society that women such as Catherine Morland were to conform to. This to the reader indicates to us that Austen will portray her character in a different manner than the other females, in order to support her idea of Catherine being a feminist of her time. • 10. Inductive Learning Or Category Learning People learn new information through the induction of categories, allowing for the recognition that different stimuli are the same in a given way. Inductive learning involves recognition and understanding of the similarities and differences among and between stimuli. To learn a new category of information, exemplars belonging to a given category are conceptualized and grouped as belonging to that category. Such learning is fundamental in human cognition, enabling persons to categorize novel exemplars as instances of a given category or concept (Birnbaum, 2013). In a typical study conducted on the topic of inductive learning or category learning, students are presented with a set of exemplars belonging to a particular category and are subsequently asked to identify and induce a general concept pertaining to the given set of observed exemplars (Zulkiply, McLean, Burt, Bath, 2012). Such exemplars may include nonsense syllables, words, sentences, pictures and faces (Ebbinghaus, 1985/1913; Glenberg Lehmann, 1980; Rothkopf Coke, 1966; Hintzman Rogers, 1973; Cornell, 1980). Research on inductive learning shows that participants learn category similarities and category differences from the way in which study stimuli are presented to those participants. In earlier studies on inductive learning, researchers examined the benefits of category learning for education. Researchers focused on how to maximize participants performance in category learning related tasks. In two such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were no strong objections however to improving an existing government service. So it happened that organized air transport in the U.S. started with flying the mail. And the way the early airmail service developed provided the springboard that would enable American commercial aviation, by the late 1920s, to catch up with the Europeans and then to surpass them (Air Mail 158). The events leading up to the ratification and enforcement of the Proclamation prove that freeing the slaves was a long, arduous process that affected both sides (the Union and the Confederacy) in several ways over the following years of the war. The most prominent effect of Lincoln passing the Emancipation Proclamation was that it made the war about slavery. Though there was much controversy in the first few months over what actually caused the Civil War, ratifying and issuing the final Proclamation officially shifted the focus from states right and the reach of the federal government to the race struggle between the white and the enslaved. It s a well written book for an intelligent person who wishes to be informed. The main idea or it can be called an argument that Armstrong put forth was to break the wrong image of the west about the Holy Prophet. She starts describing Muhammad s rising success as a skilled and respected politician; Armstrong mentions that the Christian world has always judged this part of the prophet s life with distrust. The Western view has traditionally seen Muhammad s political success as proof that he was an impostor using religion as a means to power. To explain this attitude, Armstrong offers the following insight: Because the Christian world is dominated by the image of the crucified Jesus, who said that his kingdom was not of this world, we tend to see failure and humiliation as the hallmark of a religious leader. We do not expect our spiritual heroes to achieve a dazzling success in mundane terms. (p. 164) Armstrong depicts Muhammad (saw) in glowing colors, even when she admits his wrongdoings. Samsungs steady increase of market share, would takeover Apple in the long term, and so by filing such a lawsuit, Apple would put a halt to this. Mysteriously, the question of Is it possible for Apple and Samsung to work hand in hand? arises. To begin with, these two companies have been enemies for a long period of time. Apple has always been looking for ways to trap Samsung, and Samsung has been trying to create better technology then Apple. These two companies, especially Apple seem to have extreme hatred going on between them. It can be seen that they closely watch each other s steps looking for gaps and mistakes to complain about. These two companies are some of the top Smartphone companies, contributing in fierce competition, each hurrying to bring out the latest technology. In addition, Apple has filed another lawsuit after the current one, showing a fierce battle. This could conclude that there is no way that these two companies can be seen working together, as both of them want to be winners. But if these two companies were to walk together hand in hand, one of them would have to give in to the other. As Apple has won the patent lawsuit, Samsung could not only pay the damages caused, but they could bring in a settlement of shared profits. This is where Samsung would still be allowed to sell its technology, and Apple would own the intellectual property rights. Today, more than ever, the quality of evidence in criminal cases is scrutinized because of contamination. Contamination is the introduction of something that physically corrupts a substance at a crime scene that was not previously there; it comes in many forms and most often times comes from the humans who investigate a crime scene. It is imperative that prevention of cross contamination is implemented when gathering evidence. Several of the more sensitive forensic techniques such as trace analysis, bloodspatter interpretation, and DNA comparison are not being used to their fullest potential. Items of physical crime scene evidence are not always visible to the naked eye and may be easily overlooked so deliberate and methodical approach to collection and preservation of evidence is essential. Prosecutors have lost cases due to crime scene contamination; this could be prevented by simple and productive behaviors. The U.S. Supreme Court, in a leading case on physical evidence, stated: Physical evidence cannot be wrong; it cannot perjure itself; it cannot be wholly absent. Only its interpretation can err. Only human failure to find it, study and understand it can diminish its value. (Harris vs. United States, 1947). Silverstein relates a 2 a.m. phone call that informed him that Dr. Musoke s blood tested positive for Marburg, a virus about which little is known. It was named after a town in Germany where, in 1967, citizens contracted the virus from monkeys transported from Uganda to a local laboratory. Many of the monkeys had been brought in by a trader who was more interested in money than the health of the animals. The virus is different from most because rather than being ball shaped, it is a filovirus, or has tendrils like hair or worms that tangle together. They can also roll up into loops, a very unique trait. The other well known filovirus is Ebola. Marburg kills one in four humans who receive medical treatment and is so dangerous that the international community immediately tries to identify the source. The best they can do is to hypothesize that it was a hot island in western Africa populated by sick monkeys that were trapped and sold in other countries. This is also a popular theory about the origin of HIV and AIDS. The viruses mutate enough to spread from monkeys to humans and can have a catastrophic effect. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea of music being Szpilman s saviour is also portrayed in the Hosenfeld scene, where he meets and plays piano for a German officer. The shot is over Hosenfeld s shoulder, and we can see a beam of moonlight illuminating Szpilman and his hands. Szpilman looks very dirty and extremely skinny, nearly to the point of death. The audience learns that Polanski uses lighting consistently throughout the film to signify the importance of pianos to Szpilman, as light is repeatedly shone on his hands whilst playing piano, this is demonstrated in the Invasion scene. The composition in this scene is important because Szpilman is facing the opposite way to what he was in the invasion scene when he was on the piano; this is to show that Szpilman s life has turned around. The ragged and dirty costume also makes the audience draw a comparison to the invasion scene where he has an expensive looking, clean, sophisticated suit on, also emphasising that his life has gotten significantly worse. We then see Hosenfeld back away from the piano and sit down to watch Szpilman play. This makes the audience realise that Hosenfeld is not going to kill Szpilman as he is a good German, showing Polanski s idea of good Germans and bad Germans and furthering the idea of the piano being his saviour, because we do not know what Hosenfeld would have done if Szpilman was not the amazing pianist he is.
