Essay on The Implications of Technology in the Movie Her
About nine years ago I discovered a book called The Age of Spiritual Machines by a man named Ray
Kurzweil that demanded my immediate interest. I was captivated by his view of the future of
technology astoundingly positive and bright compared to most peoples negative or dystopian outlook
when it comes to the dangers of a society increasingly reliant on machines and technology. I recently
had the privilege of watching Spike Jonze s 2013 movie her. While focusing on the personal aspect of
a man falling in love with an artificial intelligence in a near future Los Angeles, I couldn t help but be
surprised and delighted when Ray Kurzweil s theories and mindset came shining through the
backdrop. This is a smart, moving love story at first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spike Jonze s recent movie her takes place in a future LA, but not one that you would expect, having
most popular visions of the future being dark and dystopian. The streets are clean and the people are
happy. Everything is basked in a pastel like glow, feeling nostalgically retro. Technology is used to
their advantage for convenience, but has not overtaken their lives and created a society of anti social
recluses. Jonze s vision of the future is decidedly positive and a refreshing take on what humanity can
do if they make the right choices. Enter Theodore, the protagonist who has separated from his wife in
the past year. He is a depressed, hopeful romantic clinging onto the thought that his wife will change
her mind and come back to him, evident in his reluctance to sign his divorce papers. While walking
down the street one day he notices an advertisement for a new operating system named OS1, touted as
being the first artificially intelligent operating system. Throughout the rest of the movie, he grows
alongside Samantha (which is what the OS decided to name herself). She begins to find herself and
develop wants and needs. In addition to helping him in his work and with de cluttering his personal
life, she begins to evolve into her own person with her own idiosyncrasies. Kurzweil talks heavily on
the introduction of artificial

American Transportation Infrastructure Essay
American transportation Infrastructure has taken a toll over the past decade. This is due to the lack of
proper maintenance. These infrastructure are in serious disorder and they continue to deteriorate and
age across the country. The upkeep of roads and bridges is a struggle in term of monetary availability
and various government agencies at all level are having a hard time meeting up with the budget
requirement. Ever since the federal Highway Trust Fund was founded in 1956, the combined highway
and transit expenses with reference to the gross domestic product has reduced by twenty five percent
as stated by the federal National Surface Transportation Infrastructure Financing Commission.
The infrastructure area in this great nation is deprecating when compared to the rest of the developed
countries. America went from having the best modernized roadways and highways in the mid 1900s to
an obsolete infrastructure at present. The U.S globally ranks 16th in quality of infrastructures moving
3 up spots over the past couple of years. This is not as a result of improved infrastructure but other
countries worsening their infrastructural repairs.

of the country s infrastructure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The state Oregon is running an experiment which involves the vehicle miles traveled (VMT) fee to
replace gas taxes for roads and bridges. This is a modernized tactic because cars nowadays are more
fuel efficient. Electric cars such as Tesla do not require gas to operate resulting in the spread of such
vehicles. Adopting a VMT system nationally would not be an easy task due to privacy concerns. Most
drivers do not like the concept of tracking their driving history. However, 16 states have studied the
feasibility of a VMT system and some are finding it efficient. The VMT system should be workable at
the state level before progressing to the federal

Coral Island In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies starts off with these group of schoolboys lost and confused on an deserted island.
The boys were on a plane on their way to a safe spot because of the nuclear age but suddenly went
down and landed on an island. With the plane going down the adults were in the front, and when the
plane split in two the front of the plane landed in the water. The boys looked around but the adults
were nowhere to be found. Eventually with time, the boys found out who the major leaders are and
who were the weak. With no parent supervision, the boys would have to step up and lead the younger
ones while getting food and shelter all together. Ralph and Jack are great leaders and have routines set
up for everyday work. But, with Ralph and Jack splitting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

keeping that giant fire aflame and a navy ships sees the dark grey smoke. Between the twisted plot, the

The Observation Of Elephants
What species performs burials, has the ability to cry, and form many complex relationships throughout
their lives? Elephants. Since many individuals might have guessed humans or primates first, this one
question shows the complexity of this species. Transition This paper tries to answer one main
question: How does elephant behavior, both in captive and wild settings, provide data that can lead to
evidence based practices for building captive enclosures, daily activities, and help with conservation
practices, both in captivity and in the wild. For this discussion, I am going to focus on the family,
Elephantidae, as a whole. Though some might argue that the genus Loxodonta (African) and Maximus
(Asian) should be analyzed separately, I find the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is hard to create and provide hard evidence to support this ideal when there is not a linguistic way to
communicate between humans and other species. For the purposes of this discussion I will use Breed
and Moore s definition: Cognition is the ability of an animal to separate itself from the moment in
which it is living and to contemplate the past, predict the future, and act accordingly (2016). Cognition
experiments on elephants did not begin until the late 1950 s, starting with Rensch s study on memory.
Since than scientist s have tested/ studied problem solving, rituals, emotions, deception, casual
reasoning, tool making, and tool use within elephants with many having positive results (Plotnik et al.,
2010). One aspect of cognition that has been tested in many primates in the recent years is the mirror
self recognition test; this is considered the basic level of cognition. Plotnik and colleagues completed
this test with three female elephants at the Bronx Zoo (2010). This test involves three stages, where
each shows a level of recognition. Though none of the elephants passed the mark part of the test, they
showed many other characteristics that indicated self recognition (that was in other species like
chimpanzees and bottle nose dolphins). However, the discrepancy could be due to the way elephants
identify one another: through touch, sounds, and smell, which a mirror cannot replicate (Plotnik et

Essay On Henry David Thoreau s Metamorphosis
I remember it like it was yesterday, running frantically down the worn streets of a city in France with
my friends Phil and Louise from the IYSO. I could feel the warm breeze hitting my face, the blur of
colors that were houses and shops, and the bright blue sky with a hot orange sun blinding me and
painting my skin with sweat. We were on a mission to find the nearest bathroom and quick. About an
hour before our mission began and we were scouring the streets of some city in France, we had been
let off a bus along with the rest of the people from the International Youth Symphony Orchestra, or
IYSO for short. The bus reeked of vomit and diarrhea left behind by the many sick members of our
orchestra making us grateful to be off. My feet screamed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We ran like the wind through the heavily crowded streets in search the familiar blue polo all orchestra
members were assigned . After a while, we found another member who was able to point us in the
direction of a bathroom. We raced off in the direction we were told to so that we may find much the
needed toilets. Up a hill we found the magnificent yet disgusting bathroom that ,sadly, had only two
room/stalls. Louise and Phil went into each leaving me to wait outside in the boiling sun. I waited
outside forever until Louise finally got out of there. I rushed in the room right after her not reading the
warning sign that was in English saying to wait one minute before entering the stall. I was too busy to
worry about signs since my bladder was about to explode. SLAM! The large, metal door closed loudly
behind me making my jump. CLICK! A pipe on the floor turned on and began spraying cold water. I
decided that now was the perfect time to leave and turned to the door attempting to opening it but after
many tries at turning the handle, realizes that it was locked. I turned around once more to find that
three more pipes had begun spraying water. The room became dark as the lights shut off leaving me to

Loss Of A Loved One Essay
If I were to conduct research on a Sociological Topic that is applicable to my own life, I would choose
to research how the experience of having loved ones pass away affects people overtime. For instance,
an certain individual I know very well has only experienced the death of one individual they were
close with in their entire lifetime. On the other hand, I have been affected by the passing of loved ones
since I can remember. Case in point, just over the past couple of years I have lost upwards of 8 people
I was very close with. Furthermore, I currently have three different people whom I am close with
battling terminal cancer. When I think of my own experience with death compared to that of the other
individual, I notice that I handle the grieving process in a more logical way opposed to thinking my
happiness and life as a whole ended when the loved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to create a study to determine whether or not the way people grieve death changes after they
have been affected more than once by the loss of a loved one, I would start by creating a survey. On
this survey I would ask the gender of the individual taking the survey, the current age of the
individual, how old the individual was when they first experienced a loved one passing away, how
many people they ve lost in their lifetime that they were particularly close with, what their initial
reaction to the passing of their loved one was compared to their reaction after losing more than one
loved one, and how their reaction has changed as time passes since the loved one(s) passed away. I
may also include the question of what the relationship was between the individual taking the survey
and the individual who passed away. It would be my hope that this survey reached individuals from all
different backgrounds, ages, cultures, and so on to ensure a variety of people were surveyed to
eliminate any biases that may occur. Once I had the results from my

Who Is Responsible For The Fall Of Cleopatra

Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator, born in 69 B.C. Alexandria, Ptolemaic Kingdom commonly known as
Cleopatra was member of Ptolemic dynasty of ancient Egypt who ruled her Kingdom for 21 years.
Her name meant glory of her Father and she stood true on its meaning. She was the most beautiful
women of that era. Though the tales of her beauty cannot be forgetten but she was also the most
intelligent women with scariest political mind of ancient Egypt and she even schemed against her
siblings to rule Egypt all by herself .
After the death of her father, Ptolemy XII Auletes the throne was ruled by 17 years Cleopatra and her
brother
Ptolemy XIII Theos Philopator. According to Ptolemaic dynasty the brother and sister was assigned to
marry with each other for the betterment of the kingdom. After the marriage, Cleopatra and her

organization led by Ukrainian nuns and they have been for years now. The Home Care is mainly filled
with elders and primarily are Ukrainians or Canadians. During the time I volunteered, I learned many
things about myself and others. Also, I experienced new things that influenced me.
My best experience was when I met an old man named Peter. I remember Peter as a funny and cool
person. Peter was probably the best part in volunteering at St. Joseph because he was very fun to be
with. He loves to sing very loudly and it s just amusing to watch. This one time, Peter beckoned me to

During my time in St. Joseph s, I was the only student at Ed Feehan, who volunteered there, but a
student from Holy Cross also volunteered there too. His name was Ben. Ben was extremely cool and
funny and we got along very easily. Ben arrived earlier than me and I only got the chance to spend

The Imitation of Christ
The way I imitated Christ was when I showed people the true meaning of kindness and cheerfulness.
What I did was a great example of what Jesus did for his people. He helped and in return, he brought
back the idea of contentment to the people. Not only I served the people, but most importantly, I
served Jesus. He expected us to follow his way meaning to help each and everyone, no matter who the
person is.

The Effect Of Social Media On Organization Branding
The Effect of Social Media on Organization Branding
Jianmo Zhang
University of Southern California
Media has been the main channel through which marketers convey their brand messages and promote
their products since 18th century. The traditional marketing model, which is the combination of
companies, advertising agencies, and media, has worked well ever since. However, with the rise of
Internet, the key role in branding played by conventional media, which comprises print media and
broadcast media, has been increasingly challenged (Palmer Koenig Lewis, 2009). Marketing budgets
has been greatly shifted to online channels (Jennings, 2007).
Notwithstanding it simplified the process of marketing to some extend, online channel is never easy to
manage. Instead, it includes multiple formats of communication aiming at variety of target customers,
such as banner ads appearing on web sites, personalized e mails sent by organization marketers and so
forth (Palmer Koenig Lewis, 2009). Consistent with this media revolution, in recent years, social
media, which further decrease the cost of communication for companies tremendously, has become a
major hit in marketing and media field (Palmer Koenig Lewis, 2009).
In existing research, Social media is defined as: online applications, platforms and media which aim to
facilitate interactions, collaborations and the sharing of content (Universal Maccann International,
2008, p. 10). It has become the representative of

King Alfred the Great was not perfect. There is little evidence of it. In fact, most information used

people have edited his life to fit their needs. According to the article, it was writers of the sixteenth

What Does Fragment 123 Mean
Heidegger also believed that we have been interpreting certain pre Socratics wrong. One such pre
Socratic is Heraclitus. More specifically, Heidegger believed that Fragment 123 of Heraclitus in which
he mentions Physis has also been translated falsely, giving the words false definitions as well as false
philosophical theories behind it. Traditionally, Fragment 123 is translated into that nature likes to hide
. Instead of the traditional interpretation of how nature likes to hide, Heidegger believed that when
Heraclitus mentioned Physis, he was referring to Being. More specifically, he was referring to Being
in the Heideggarian context, which is referring to the appearing of that which appears and the
occurring of what is. In other words, he was referring to things which are seeming and happening and

Heidegger believed that being is unchanging, but change is becoming. In other words, being is
something that cannot change, but at the same time, change is something that is heading towards a
fulfillment, or a state of becoming in which no longers and not yets are changing due to their
achievement. Likewise, Dasein is also becoming, but it is not actualizing. Dasein is trying to head
towards its self fulfillment in which Daseins spend their entire lives trying to do, but are never fully
able to reach the goal of self actualization. As a result, beings are something that are constantly being,
while at the same time, constantly becoming, heading towards their self actualization. Heidegger
additionally pointed out that what is no longer has to become, because it is coming into appearance.
To put it in a different perspective, what is becoming is something that is something that cannot exist
anymore, because it is heading towards its true self, and its ultimate demise. It is overall the
appearance and the manifestation of something, it is something that is

Paideia as Bildung in Germany in the Age of Enlightenment
ABSTRACT: There have been many interpretations of Bildung in the history of German philosophy,
from the Medieval mystics to the secularization of the Enlightenment. Wilhelm von Humboldt s work
at the end of the 18th century is a good example. He placed the idea of Bildung at the center of his
work because it was rooted in a dynamic, transforming idea of the natural and human worlds while
also being oriented toward a model of balance and perfection. Von Humboldt s interpretation of
modernity is characterized by a strong emphasis on change as well as the need to find criteria for
guiding such a transformation that has no intrinsic or predetermined end. Love of classical antiquity ...

In this way, to render the semantic extent of the term, the meanings of forma and formatio and imago
and imitatio are involved as well; and the following two concepts are implied: firstly the concept of
production according to an order that gives rise to a form (to something subsident on the basis of
mutually congruent rules) and secondly the conformation of the said act to an image given as
assumption, as a model endowed with an absolute value which this image must resemble or aim for.
The original meaning of bilden, as the Deutsches Wörterbuch by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm states, is
that of a plastic activity on the sensory level and means giving shape, producing a certain object
abiding to the rules which preside over the Art. In this case bilden is a synonym for gestalten and
formieren. But the relationship of reproduction, and therefore of resemblance with respect to an image
must be added to this , and this addition to an Urbild pushes bilden well beyond the pure and simple
formation of an object and gives rise to the complex relationship between model and copy, original
and reproduction which implies a very different approach to the question.
Such a double meaning

Paleolithic Diet Research Paper

3rd Hour The Modern Diet
The Paleolithic Era started in about 200,000 BCE and ended in 10,000 BCE. The Paleolithic peoples
were foragers, people who moved around to find food. They hunted and gathered their food.
Paleolithic people ate meat, fruit, and wild grasses. Although the Paleolithic diet may seem more
desirable than what the average person eats today, it is not. The average Modern diet is better than the
Paleolithic diet because it reduces diseases and other disorders and has many added benefits.
The first reason the average Modern diet is better than the Paleolithic diet is that it reduces diseases

According to https://www.precisionnutrition.com humans began eating grasses at least three million

more active life style than humans today. This is important because in order to get some of the benefits
of the Paleolithic diet modern people have to not only eat the diet but live the lifestyle of our early
ancestors. Finally, the diet of Paleolithic people depended on where they lived. This is important

A Brief Note On Canada And The United States Essay
Accessibility About 80% of Canadian claims that they have a family doctor and 64% of the population
claim to have a dentist. In another word, the healthcare in Canada is considered to be highly
accessible. Unfortunately, the system does have its flaws in situations such as the aboriginals, the
people with disabilities, and for the populations that lives outside the urban areas have less accessible
healthcare providers. For many instances, the dweller of the rural and reserves areas would have to
travel for hours to find a clinic and for others it is simply not available. Compare to Canada, in the
USA, healthcare is currently not accessible to all Americans but only to certain societal groups that are
less fortunate. It is estimated that by 2019, the uninsured population in the States may increase to 65.7
million people, or 23.2% of the population. The U.S. population has a constant stable growing rate,
which means the U.S. healthcare systems will have to provide for an even larger population than it
already has. The U.S. population is expected to increase by 325 million by 2020; the population will
increase by about 20%. All this to say that it is crucial that America tries to make healthcare more
accessible and available to the entire population not solely to the indigents and seniors for the better of
the society. If this situation is not resolved, it will only cause more deficiency in the American
healthcare system and making the situation worse than it already is.

Spiritual condition evaluation
Throughout the life of my person of interest, knowledge of the existence of a creator has had a
crippling effect in his struggle to reconcile his perception of life and the great desire for divine
approval and acceptance. This is a result of the common belief that moral and spiritual development is
attained through the shedding of dogmatic belief structures, resulting in the elimination of God
towards the attainment of self realization.
Strangely, although the secular aspect is quite vividly seen in his way of life, the religious references
and biblical allusions cannot be ignored. Despite the lack of cultivation and learning in the morals and
ethics of Christianity, he is able to form his own code of behavior based on example and the behavior
he views from others. It should be noted that his instinctive sense of morality comes without
knowledge of God or a creator and while this may seem to be an atheistic or at least secular way of
thinking about how morality is inborn it is impossible to ignore the way the Bible and religious
learning influence even this aspect of his life.
It would seem that he views other people as closer to God, not simply because of his own isolation,
but because he witnesses their apparent ability to function in a world of God. This is seen on his act of
acquiring a sense of morality through observation of behaviors of others
It is evident

Descriptive Essay About Sparring In Taekwondo
He Was Breathtaking Waking up early on a Saturday to excessively exercise and then getting beaten
up afterward is not everyone s cup of tea. It sure wasn t mine and to this very day, I still have mixed
feelings about sparring in Taekwondo. Sparring is a sport for students to better prepare themselves in
self defense, but also for competition. Light contact was recommended, but at times the pressure gets
the better of the fighter. Accidents frequently occur. I was just starting out in this lung stopping sport,
so neither my mind and body were ready to have the life sucked out of us. I didn t mind sparring, but
when I saw who I was paired with, I might of as well just left the suffocating arena. It was a hot
summer morning and I got ready ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One to my chest, the other went to my throat. After the second blow to my throat, I stopped
immediately. I couldn t breathe. My world went blank and I dropped myself next to my dad on the
bench. I was like an old tree that shakes violently during a storm. My body didn t do anything at that
moment. The whole world stopped dead in its tracks. I was in shock. Tears formed in my eyes. Three
seconds later, I was crying. It felt like my eyes had an endless supply of water. After Master Ko had
called everyone to stop, he turned to Alex and asked what happened. Alex said he honestly did not
know and that I just stopped fighting. Master Ko turned to me and asked the same thing. I took
asthmatic breaths of air as I answered his torturing question. I felt embarrassed for crying and for
stopping in the middle of a fight. My face was beet red. I hated all the eyes that were drilling holes
into me. I could not take much more, so I sat out for the rest of the time.
As my eyes burned from the sweat and tears mixing together, I yelled at myself, I m so pathetic! How
could I just sit here and rest, while everyone is working their butts off!? Dalena, what happened?
Master Ko s voice was warm and soothing. He placed his hand on my shoulder, squeezing so tight, I
could feel my veins suffocating. I was kicked in the throat, sir... I m really sorry! I bowed, trying to
avoid his eyes, afraid of his eyes splicing into my already broken soul. I understand it

How Charitable Organizations May Not Participate Or Intervene
Charitable organizations may not participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of any
candidate in office. The violation of engaging in political activities is the loss of the organization s tax
exempt status. The prohibition of such political activity includes making contributions to a candidate s
political campaign, making endorsements of a candidate, lending employees to work in a political
campaign, or providing facilities for use by a candidates. However, there are certain educational
activities that are permitted. An organization may conduct an educational activity as long as the
activity is unbiased and nonpartisan. A public charity may provide a forum for debates by candidates,

Early legislation was enacted between 1894 and 1936; tax exempt regulations during this time
developed around three principles: First, organizations that operated for charitable purposes were
granted exemption from the Federal income tax. Second, charitable organizations were required to be
free of private inurement. Finally, an income tax deduction for contributions designed to encourage
charitable giving, was developed. One of the first tax exempt regulations was the Wilson Gorman
Tariff Act of 1894. The Wilson Gorman Tariff Act established that charitable organizations must
operate for a charitable purpose in order to be tax exempt. The act also stated, nothing herein
contained shall apply to corporations, companies, or associations organized and conducted solely for
charitable, religious, or educational purposes. The Court later held that the law as unconstitutional.
However, the act provided the foundation for future tax legislation involving charitable organizations.
The Revenue Act of 1909 expanded the language from the Wilson Gorman Tariff Act. The Revenue
Act was important because it established the idea that tax exempt charitable organizations should be
free of private inurement. Under this act tax exemption was given to any corporation or association
organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, or

How To Clean Up A Tornado
Look out! A whole tire flew right at the back of your head! That quote might be a little intense, but it
could happen. The natural disaster that could cause this is a horrifying tornado. About 60 people die
from debris torn off and released by tornadoes every year. 60 people may not seem like much out of
351 million, but they are people not statistics. To survive these horrible disasters, you would need to
prepare, know how to get through it, and afterwards, clean up is mandatory since natural disasters do
not clean up after themselves.
Preparation is the most important event that should take place at any time. If you are watching the
news before a big thunderstorm, and you see that your county is even on tornado watch while ... Show

The tornado is here! Get everyone inside and brace for impact! Everyone should be balled up against
and facing an inside wall that does not connect to the outside unless you want it torn off and want to
fly away with it. The whole family should keep quiet and listen until no one hears anymore crashing
or rumbling outside. The adults should get up first to check if the coast is clear. If it is, it would be safe
for anyone else to get up.
In the hopes that your house is not completely destroyed, there will most likely be some clean up to
do. There are usually a few trees down in the yard, so they need to be sawed up and saved for
firewood. The little branches should be picked up, put in a fire and burned when the pile is dry. A
while shelter might even be completely flipped upside down in your front lawn, so get a front end
loader to pick it up and put it in a big trash trailer.
In conclusion, you would need to prepare and have the knowledge and skill to at least survive when a
tornado rips through the neighborhood. Also, repairing the multiple damages and cleaning up after the
storm would get your house and landscape looking as good as new. With this information, I leave you
in the hopes that you will be able to survive any tornado that comes your

Watershed Research Paper
A watershed is the big pool of water that a certain region gets is source of water from. This can
include ponds, rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water. The watershed is shared between humans and
wildlife. We get all of our water from it, which includes anything from drinking water to the water we
shower and bathe in. The watershed that we live in is the Cache la Poudre River watershed. This
watershed produces approximately 274,000 acres of water (Northern Water). That is enough to
provide for three major cities: Windsor, Fort Collins, and Greeley. The problem that I found was that
we leave all of our lights on and then this makes us use more energy which in turn makes us pollute
the earth (watershed). I feel that if we were to implement

Capital Punishment And Juvenile Punishment
Capital punishment is the term used when an individual is put to death by the state or government for
the commission of a crime. Until recently, juveniles were not exempt from this punishment, however
they would generally need to commit a more serious offense compared to their adult counterpart. Then
there was the decision ruling the execution of mentally handicapped individuals was unconstitutional,
using the 8th amendment as their authority, while taking into account the diminished capacity of the
individual. Succeeding that ruling, in 2005 the Supreme Court ruled that putting a child to death was
unconstitutional using the 8th amendment as their rationalization, and the juvenile s lack of maturity
as one of the reasoning. I have chosen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This subject is also important because much like many other issues, even though it is considered
obsolete at the moment, it may not always be that way. The Supreme Court ruling in the 2005 case
that ruled juvenile executions unconstitutional, passed by a majority of five to four. Since that time we
have had two of the five majority leave the Court, two of the minority leave, and added four new
justices, including the chief justice. This is important to this subject because the ruling was made
based on the interpretation of the information by nine individuals. If this ruling is ever challenged
again, we may see a different outcome, thus having a need for research on the topic. By researching
the broader subject matter of capital punishment, I am able to collect data from adult cases and
compare them the juvenile equivalent, while at the same time evaluate theories that may have fallen
short in research for adults, such as deterrence, and determine if they would apply to younger
offenders. I will be able to do this by using data prior to the 2005 Supreme Court case which ruled
juvenile capital punishment unconstitutional, and comparing it to data in the years following. I will
also be able to evaluate the data where the death penalty could have been used prior to 2005, but was
not, and compare that to more recent data of juvenile being sentenced to life without parole.
Evaluating cases warranting the death penalty compared

Judge Haselton s Case Summary
In May of 1998, Kipland Kinkel brought a gun to his school. Over the course of two days this
escalated from: being sent home, to murdering his father and mother, to murdering 2 students and
wounding 26, earning a lifetime sentence of 111 years and 8 months in prison. In the court case being
examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal, and the
justification for the State s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos,
and pathos to support the Higher Court s decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was
constitutional and just. Summary In State of Oregon v. Kipland Kinkel, Judge Haselton summarizes
the decision to deny Kinkel s appeal of his sentencing. Kinkel was sentenced by the Lower Court to
111 years and 8 months for the confession of 4 murders and 25 accounts of attempted murder. Several
medical personal and parents testified against Kinkel at the hearing stating that, he is and remains
dangerous, (para. 15). The defense s grounds for appeal consist of the sentencing being cruel and
unusual and that the protection of society was considered more than reformation. The higher court
denied it was cruel and unusual because it did not shock the conscience. The presiding judge also
denied that reformation was of higher significance than the protection of society because there were
multiple victims affected in a public setting. Audience, Purpose, and Rhetorical Stance There is a

The Causes Of Social Class Inequality In The United States
Ever since this nation was declared, the societies within the United States have suffered inequities
based on their race, gender, culture, beliefs and economic status. Despite all the struggles that
Americans went through to improve situations, the repetition of oppression and destructions of
common beliefs had been plausible within the United States. As long as these negative factors remain
in America, a society with social classes will always be counterproductive in economic development.
The beliefs of free speech for minorities continue to be unequal within this country and is a mere
image of historical events that have diminished the endeavors of minorities alike. According to Teresa
Pac, Assistant Professor, Global Art and Visual Culture Coordinator, The foreign born linguistic
groups, including the Chinese, Mexican, German, Irish, as well as Eastern and Southern European
immigrants among others, maintained their heritage languages through bilingual education, often lived
in cultural enclaves, and therefore were perceived as a threat to American values . This begs the
question if this kind of treatment towards different ethnic groups will continue or not for the future.
National American values are truly an ideology created within America to program Americans to
believe that someone who doesn t speak English is a threat to their pride and is therefore labeled as an
outcast. Social norms in America also tend to support stereotypes as well. Another contribution to
social

  • 2. Essay on The Implications of Technology in the Movie Her About nine years ago I discovered a book called The Age of Spiritual Machines by a man named Ray Kurzweil that demanded my immediate interest. I was captivated by his view of the future of technology astoundingly positive and bright compared to most peoples negative or dystopian outlook when it comes to the dangers of a society increasingly reliant on machines and technology. I recently had the privilege of watching Spike Jonze s 2013 movie her. While focusing on the personal aspect of a man falling in love with an artificial intelligence in a near future Los Angeles, I couldn t help but be surprised and delighted when Ray Kurzweil s theories and mindset came shining through the backdrop. Spike Jonze s recent movie her takes place in a future LA, but not one that you would expect, having most popular visions of the future being dark and dystopian. The streets are clean and the people are happy. Everything is basked in a pastel like glow, feeling nostalgically retro. Technology is used to their advantage for convenience, but has not overtaken their lives and created a society of anti social recluses. Jonze s vision of the future is decidedly positive and a refreshing take on what humanity can do if they make the right choices. Enter Theodore, the protagonist who has separated from his wife in the past year. He is a depressed, hopeful romantic clinging onto the thought that his wife will change her mind and come back to him, evident in his reluctance to sign his divorce papers. While walking down the street one day he notices an advertisement for a new operating system named OS1, touted as being the first artificially intelligent operating system. Throughout the rest of the movie, he grows alongside Samantha (which is what the OS decided to name herself). She begins to find herself and develop wants and needs. In addition to helping him in his work and with de cluttering his personal life, she begins to evolve into her own person with her own idiosyncrasies. These infrastructure are in serious disorder and they continue to deteriorate and age across the country. The upkeep of roads and bridges is a struggle in term of monetary availability and various government agencies at all level are having a hard time meeting up with the budget requirement. Ever since the federal Highway Trust Fund was founded in 1956, the combined highway and transit expenses with reference to the gross domestic product has reduced by twenty five percent as stated by the federal National Surface Transportation Infrastructure Financing Commission. The infrastructure area in this great nation is deprecating when compared to the rest of the developed countries. America went from having the best modernized roadways and highways in the mid 1900s to an obsolete infrastructure at present. The U.S globally ranks 16th in quality of infrastructures moving 3 up spots over the past couple of years. Since many individuals might have guessed humans or primates first, this one question shows the complexity of this species. Transition This paper tries to answer one main question: How does elephant behavior, both in captive and wild settings, provide data that can lead to evidence based practices for building captive enclosures, daily activities, and help with conservation practices, both in captivity and in the wild. Cognition experiments on elephants did not begin until the late 1950 s, starting with Rensch s study on memory. Since than scientist s have tested/ studied problem solving, rituals, emotions, deception, casual reasoning, tool making, and tool use within elephants with many having positive results (Plotnik et al., 2010). One aspect of cognition that has been tested in many primates in the recent years is the mirror self recognition test; this is considered the basic level of cognition. Plotnik and colleagues completed this test with three female elephants at the Bronx Zoo (2010). This test involves three stages, where each shows a level of recognition. Though none of the elephants passed the mark part of the test, they showed many other characteristics that indicated self recognition (that was in other species like chimpanzees and bottle nose dolphins). • 13. The Effect Of Social Media On Organization Branding The Effect of Social Media on Organization Branding Jianmo Zhang University of Southern California Media has been the main channel through which marketers convey their brand messages and promote their products since 18th century. The traditional marketing model, which is the combination of companies, advertising agencies, and media, has worked well ever since. However, with the rise of Internet, the key role in branding played by conventional media, which comprises print media and broadcast media, has been increasingly challenged (Palmer Koenig Lewis, 2009). Paideia as Bildung in Germany in the Age of Enlightenment ABSTRACT: There have been many interpretations of Bildung in the history of German philosophy, from the Medieval mystics to the secularization of the Enlightenment. Wilhelm von Humboldt s work at the end of the 18th century is a good example. He placed the idea of Bildung at the center of his work because it was rooted in a dynamic, transforming idea of the natural and human worlds while also being oriented toward a model of balance and perfection. The original meaning of bilden, as the Deutsches Wörterbuch by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm states, is that of a plastic activity on the sensory level and means giving shape, producing a certain object abiding to the rules which preside over the Art. In this case bilden is a synonym for gestalten and formieren. But the relationship of reproduction, and therefore of resemblance with respect to an image must be added to this , and this addition to an Urbild pushes bilden well beyond the pure and simple formation of an object and gives rise to the complex relationship between model and copy, original and reproduction which implies a very different approach to the question. • 23. A Brief Note On Canada And The United States Essay Accessibility About 80% of Canadian claims that they have a family doctor and 64% of the population claim to have a dentist. In another word, the healthcare in Canada is considered to be highly accessible. Unfortunately, the system does have its flaws in situations such as the aboriginals, the people with disabilities, and for the populations that lives outside the urban areas have less accessible healthcare providers. For many instances, the dweller of the rural and reserves areas would have to travel for hours to find a clinic and for others it is simply not available. Compare to Canada, in the USA, healthcare is currently not accessible to all Americans but only to certain societal groups that are less fortunate. It is estimated that by 2019, the uninsured population in the States may increase to 65.7 million people, or 23.2% of the population. The U.S. population has a constant stable growing rate, which means the U.S. healthcare systems will have to provide for an even larger population than it already has. The U.S. population is expected to increase by 325 million by 2020; the population will increase by about 20%. All this to say that it is crucial that America tries to make healthcare more accessible and available to the entire population not solely to the indigents and seniors for the better of the society. If this situation is not resolved, it will only cause more deficiency in the American healthcare system and making the situation worse than it already is. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Spiritual condition evaluation Throughout the life of my person of interest, knowledge of the existence of a creator has had a crippling effect in his struggle to reconcile his perception of life and the great desire for divine approval and acceptance. This is a result of the common belief that moral and spiritual development is attained through the shedding of dogmatic belief structures, resulting in the elimination of God towards the attainment of self realization. Strangely, although the secular aspect is quite vividly seen in his way of life, the religious references and biblical allusions cannot be ignored. Despite the lack of cultivation and learning in the morals and ethics of Christianity, he is able to form his own code of behavior based on example and the behavior he views from others. It should be noted that his instinctive sense of morality comes without

  • 26. Descriptive Essay About Sparring In Taekwondo He Was Breathtaking Waking up early on a Saturday to excessively exercise and then getting beaten up afterward is not everyone s cup of tea. It sure wasn t mine and to this very day, I still have mixed feelings about sparring in Taekwondo. Sparring is a sport for students to better prepare themselves in self defense, but also for competition. Light contact was recommended, but at times the pressure gets the better of the fighter. Accidents frequently occur. I was just starting out in this lung stopping sport, so neither my mind and body were ready to have the life sucked out of us. I didn t mind sparring, but when I saw who I was paired with, I might of as well just left the suffocating arena. It was a hot summer morning and I got ready ... My world went blank and I dropped myself next to my dad on the bench. I was like an old tree that shakes violently during a storm. My body didn t do anything at that moment. The whole world stopped dead in its tracks. I was in shock. Tears formed in my eyes. Three seconds later, I was crying. It felt like my eyes had an endless supply of water. After Master Ko had called everyone to stop, he turned to Alex and asked what happened. Alex said he honestly did not know and that I just stopped fighting. Master Ko turned to me and asked the same thing. I took asthmatic breaths of air as I answered his torturing question. I felt embarrassed for crying and for stopping in the middle of a fight. My face was beet red. I hated all the eyes that were drilling holes into me. I could not take much more, so I sat out for the rest of the time. As my eyes burned from the sweat and tears mixing together, I yelled at myself, I m so pathetic! How could I just sit here and rest, while everyone is working their butts off!? Dalena, what happened? Master Ko s voice was warm and soothing. He placed his hand on my shoulder, squeezing so tight, I could feel my veins suffocating. I was kicked in the throat, sir... I m really sorry! Second, charitable organizations were required to be free of private inurement. Finally, an income tax deduction for contributions designed to encourage charitable giving, was developed. One of the first tax exempt regulations was the Wilson Gorman Tariff Act of 1894. The Wilson Gorman Tariff Act established that charitable organizations must operate for a charitable purpose in order to be tax exempt. The act also stated, nothing herein contained shall apply to corporations, companies, or associations organized and conducted solely for charitable, religious, or educational purposes. The Court later held that the law as unconstitutional. However, the act provided the foundation for future tax legislation involving charitable organizations. The Revenue Act of 1909 expanded the language from the Wilson Gorman Tariff Act. • 29. How To Clean Up A Tornado Look out! A whole tire flew right at the back of your head! That quote might be a little intense, but it could happen. The natural disaster that could cause this is a horrifying tornado. About 60 people die from debris torn off and released by tornadoes every year. 60 people may not seem like much out of 351 million, but they are people not statistics. To survive these horrible disasters, you would need to prepare, know how to get through it, and afterwards, clean up is mandatory since natural disasters do not clean up after themselves. Preparation is the most important event that should take place at any time. If you are watching the news before a big thunderstorm, and you see that your county is even on tornado watch while ... If it is, it would be safe for anyone else to get up. In the hopes that your house is not completely destroyed, there will most likely be some clean up to do. There are usually a few trees down in the yard, so they need to be sawed up and saved for firewood. The little branches should be picked up, put in a fire and burned when the pile is dry. A while shelter might even be completely flipped upside down in your front lawn, so get a front end loader to pick it up and put it in a big trash trailer. • 30. Watershed Research Paper A watershed is the big pool of water that a certain region gets is source of water from. This can include ponds, rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water. The watershed is shared between humans and wildlife. We get all of our water from it, which includes anything from drinking water to the water we shower and bathe in. The watershed that we live in is the Cache la Poudre River watershed. This watershed produces approximately 274,000 acres of water (Northern Water). That is enough to provide for three major cities: Windsor, Fort Collins, and Greeley. The problem that I found was that we leave all of our lights on and then this makes us use more energy which in turn makes us pollute the earth (watershed). I feel that if we were to implement ... • 31. Capital Punishment And Juvenile Punishment Capital punishment is the term used when an individual is put to death by the state or government for the commission of a crime. Until recently, juveniles were not exempt from this punishment, however they would generally need to commit a more serious offense compared to their adult counterpart. Then there was the decision ruling the execution of mentally handicapped individuals was unconstitutional, using the 8th amendment as their authority, while taking into account the diminished capacity of the individual. Succeeding that ruling, in 2005 the Supreme Court ruled that putting a child to death was unconstitutional using the 8th amendment as their rationalization, and the juvenile s lack of maturity as one of the reasoning. I have chosen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This subject is also important because much like many other issues, even though it is considered obsolete at the moment, it may not always be that way. The Supreme Court ruling in the 2005 case that ruled juvenile executions unconstitutional, passed by a majority of five to four. Since that time we have had two of the five majority leave the Court, two of the minority leave, and added four new justices, including the chief justice. This is important to this subject because the ruling was made based on the interpretation of the information by nine individuals. If this ruling is ever challenged again, we may see a different outcome, thus having a need for research on the topic. By researching the broader subject matter of capital punishment, I am able to collect data from adult cases and compare them the juvenile equivalent, while at the same time evaluate theories that may have fallen short in research for adults, such as deterrence, and determine if they would apply to younger offenders. I will be able to do this by using data prior to the 2005 Supreme Court case which ruled juvenile capital punishment unconstitutional, and comparing it to data in the years following. I will also be able to evaluate the data where the death penalty could have been used prior to 2005, but was not, and compare that to more recent data of juvenile being sentenced to life without parole. • 32. Judge Haselton s Case Summary In May of 1998, Kipland Kinkel brought a gun to his school. Over the course of two days this escalated from: being sent home, to murdering his father and mother, to murdering 2 students and wounding 26, earning a lifetime sentence of 111 years and 8 months in prison. In the court case being examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal, and the justification for the State s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos, and pathos to support the Higher Court s decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was constitutional and just. Summary In State of Oregon v. Kipland Kinkel, Judge Haselton summarizes the decision to deny Kinkel s appeal of his sentencing. Kinkel was sentenced by the Lower Court to 111 years and 8 months for the confession of 4 murders and 25 accounts of attempted murder. Several medical personal and parents testified against Kinkel at the hearing stating that, he is and remains dangerous, (para. 15). The defense s grounds for appeal consist of the sentencing being cruel and unusual and that the protection of society was considered more than reformation. The higher court denied it was cruel and unusual because it did not shock the conscience. The presiding judge also denied that reformation was of higher significance than the protection of society because there were multiple victims affected in a public setting. • 33. The Causes Of Social Class Inequality In The United States Ever since this nation was declared, the societies within the United States have suffered inequities based on their race, gender, culture, beliefs and economic status. Despite all the struggles that Americans went through to improve situations, the repetition of oppression and destructions of common beliefs had been plausible within the United States. As long as these negative factors remain in America, a society with social classes will always be counterproductive in economic development. The beliefs of free speech for minorities continue to be unequal within this country and is a mere image of historical events that have diminished the endeavors of minorities alike. According to Teresa Pac, Assistant Professor, Global Art and Visual Culture Coordinator, The foreign born linguistic groups, including the Chinese, Mexican, German, Irish, as well as Eastern and Southern European immigrants among others, maintained their heritage languages through bilingual education, often lived in cultural enclaves, and therefore were perceived as a threat to American values . This begs the question if this kind of treatment towards different ethnic groups will continue or not for the future. National American values are truly an ideology created within America to program Americans to believe that someone who doesn t speak English is a threat to their pride and is therefore labeled as an outcast. Social norms in America also tend to support stereotypes as well. Another contribution to social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
