Dear Mr. President by Pink Essay
Throughout the 2000s most mainstream music that was heard on the radio was pop, rap, and/or R
B with the subject of the songs being of common thoughts nothing to make a stir about. One artist
that developed during this time was Pink counteracting some notions about war, gay rights, and the
general state of America with her song Dear Mr. President . I believe that Dear Mr. President
should be included in MUSC2019 because this song brings together pop and folk influences while
using different techniques such as repetition, metaphors and dynamics to enhance the effect of the
song has on the audience.
The verse starts with an acoustic guitar using a walking tempo and melancholy tone. Dear Mr.
President, Come take a walk with me. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here she comes down a level from the previous verse reminding herself that to get her point across
she need stay compose and returns to the original slow rhythm. In this verse she uses repetition to
emphasize the power of the title lonely boy . Continuing with How can you say no child is left
behind? Referring to Bush s No Child Left Behind Act implemented in an attempt to recuse
Americas education system.
In the fourth verse the guitar grows louder along with the harder questions being asked. What
kind of father would take his own daughter s rights away? And what kind of father might hate his
own daughter if she were gay? I can only imagine what the First Lady has to say. The verse
addresses Bush s position on abortion and gay rights linking these issues to his wife, all of which
could have an effect on her being a women herself.
This verse is the peak of the song signalled by the rise in instrumentals and angry vocals.
Throughout this 12 line verse hard work is repeated 9 times. Looking at the lyrics there seems to
be a shift here from the main political focus we saw before to a more general message about the
adversities that people in America face. The anger present dissipates quickly as the guitar slows the
mood again closing the song in the same melancholy tone it began with.
This song comes after 9/11 a time where a lot of songs expressed anger with the government. I
believe though that Pink s song is a little different

Dna Sequence Variation Of Different Ants
Understanding the different populations in the world can be very interesting. It can be interesting
because it is curious to question whether or not some species can be similar or different even if
they live in different habitat. Therefore, this persuaded me to go deeper in figuring out if there is a
relationship between different species that are raised and born in different habitat. This lead me to
the question: If investigating the DNA sequence variation of different ants, will there be a
significant different in the population of the ants being found in different areas? It is hypothesized
that there will be a significant difference in the DNA sequence if the ants are found in different
areas because they do live in different habitats... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the ants were placed in the gel it was sent off to be sequence and that is where the
phylogenetic tree was able to be created to analyze if there is a significant difference in the two
species. When performing the experiment, the trickiest part in doing this experiment is
removing the supernatant from the tube and leaving a small pellet of DNA because in some of
the tube the pellet was hard to see with a naked eye. Therefore, the supernatant had to be
removed carefully so that none of the pellet DNA was removed along with it. When going
through this experiment, three different trials were performed because put in the
spectrophotometer, the DNA of the ants were not picking up in the files. Carpenter ants were
used at first, then gall wasps were used and last we went back and used carpenter ants and red
fire ants. When we used the carpenter ants again along with the red fire ants, DNA was found
and we were able to sequence the DNA. This figure shows the gel electrophoresis were we
performed our first ant. Although the data may look good. It was not good because no DNA was
found in the ants through this process. This figure shows the spectrophotometer that was done for
one of the gall wasp flies. It demonstrated that one of the DNA barely presented in the TE
solution which was a good result. However, we used 10 gall wasp and only one presented good
data with the DNA. The others did not which caused use to use another organism. When we used

Ancient Mariner Theme
Most people can easily identify with the theme: life is an on going exploration of the unknown.
This applies to the people who set out to do something, and then bang! Plot twist! Turning an
adventure into the unexpected; tsunami, your car running out of gas on the way to school, or even
getting food poisoning after going to a five star restaurant, etc. It applies to many fiction writing
such as The Rime Of The Ancient Marinerby Samuel Taylor Coleridge, which obviously explains
the curse of an albatrosson the mariner and his crew. Many nonfiction writings use this theme as
well, such as Icy Rescue as Seas Claim a cruise ship by Graham Bowley and Andrew C.
Revkinnov, which actually goes into details explaining the events of a cruise ship... Show more

As we live and life goes on we are faces with many ambiguity events. Many writers including
Graham Bowley and Andrew C. Revkinnov in their writing. Icy rescue as seas claim a cruise
ship , have tackled the theme: life is an ongoing exploration of the unknown. Contemplate how
life has become unexpected for Jennifer Enders, another traveler, traveling the Atlantic with her
husband. Jennifer is described to be warmhearted, by the way she spoke of the sinking ship.
Jennifer reports on the poor circumstances for the ship s crew and passengers, when she says it is
really scary to see a ship sinking out your porthole. The people were asked to donate clothes to
those coming in from the lifeboats. As Jennifer alternates the problem she stated we were a
rescue ship in this sentence, it helps us realize how serious the situation is. The fact that the ship
had proudly plowed the Atlantic for 40 years , tells us that the passengers not anyone, had
expected that ship to sink after departure. Maybe the hole in the ship was caused by a terrorist or
maybe the ship was old and had weathered. But this cruise had brought even bigger bombshells.
Fifty passengers were lifted up to or father, while survived by the other 154 people who were
able to survive a modern titanic. Those of which have fallen into that strange category of luck
that would not be necessary had not horrendous bad future preceded it. This all adds up to be an
unexpected occurrence, since no one would pay $1,000 to $16,000 to cruise on a titanic junior!
The passenger lives all crumbling and spinning while Jennifer never expected to come across
something so tragic requiring many unexpected changes to their sailing and their lives. All of the
uproar stipulate as exploration of the

The Ethical, Legal And Professional Implications That May...
This assignment will explore an encounter between a student nurse, a qualify nurse, a doctor, a
physiotherapist as well as other multi disciplinary team. The main purpose of this case study is
to critically analyse and discuss the ethical, legal and professional implications that may arise
when dealing with patients and patient s family. The essay will especially focus on ethical
principles, statue law, duty of care and professional values under the Nursing and Midwifery
Council (NMC, 2008) as well as the Code of Conduct and the importance of multi disciplinary
team (MDT) working in health and social care settings. In the United Kingdom all nurses and
Midwives are governed by a professional body called Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
In order to protect the patient confidentiality, in accordance to (NMC, 2008) the patient alone
will be given the pseudonym Eve throughout the case scenario. Eve an 80 year old woman has
been admitted to hospital due to a fractured hip in a mixed surgical ward. Post assessment, the
team has come to a conclusion that it would be best for Eve to have a hip replacement; the
patient has been informed and she opted for the procedure to take place. However, Eve has early
signs of Alzheimer s disease. Alzheimer s disease affects parts of the brain as well as causing
brain cells to be damage (Alzheimer s society, 2014). An individual who is suffering from this

Discretion Of A Law Enforcement Officer
As a law enforcement officer, every situation will be handled differently. Everything is not
always black and white, in fact when it comes to policing there are a lot of grey areas. This is
where discretion plays an important role. An officer will use discretion in almost every situation
he or she encounters; however there are times where an officer s discretion is limited. There are
many different factors that come in to play, some that are limiting to an officer s discretion, and
some that increase an officer s discretion. The role that discretion plays in policing is important
because the decisions that an officer makes affect the lives of the citizens, such as whether an
individual should be arrested or not. Where you have discretion, you have discretion that is
misused and you also have the need to control discretion. The role that discretion plays in
policing is important because it affects each and every decision that a law enforcement officer
makes. First, it is important to understand what discretion is. Discretion is defined as an official
action by a criminal justice official based on that individual s judgment about the best course of
action (Walker Katz, 2013, p. 351). This means that a law enforcement officer has the freedom to
act on their own judgment. This definition of discretion is the reason why law enforcement officers
have been known as street level bureaucrats (Walker Katz, 2013, p. 352). Policeofficers use
discretion to make the

Pro And Negative Effects Of Medical Technology
Though underappreciated, advancements in medical technology are imperative to the success of
the human race as a whole. For instance, some of the most common medical procedures such as
amputation, surgeries, the modern ambulance, and anesthesia inhalers were created and
popularized during the United States Civil War (Rowe). Both during the civil war and currently, the
advancements decrease death tolls while making modern and future treatments safer, faster, and
overall more efficient. They have also given the more prevailing advancements a stepping stone to
develop and grow from, allowing the forthcoming medical technology to further advance. We see
this same pattern happening perpetually, creating a loop of advancements that continue to build
upon themselves and each other.
The U.S. has the most medically advanced medical care system in the world. However, its
services are mainly available to the affluent and middle class consumers who have the financial
means to demand these services (Botehlo 1991) (Dewar). Full medical care isn t always readily
available to all; only those who may afford it have access to it. This is a result of the cost of the
services themselves being higher, due to the lack of supply (so to speak) and a growing demand.
However, Dewar stated, The practice of defensive medicine had an indirect impact on technology
utilization through the pressure for increased availability of technology (Dewar). These pressures
have encouraged the United States as a

Similarities Between Chris Mccandless And John Krakauer
Chris McCandless, Jon Krakauer, and Henry David Thoreau embrace the ideal of a transcendental
lifestyle. In the book, Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer shows the connection between Chris McCandless
and Henry David Thoreau. They both believe in certain points such as living deliberately,
simplicity, and individualism. Within the book, Into the Wild, Krakauer reveals the philosophy of
Transcendentalism through living deliberately, simplicity, and individualism. Having a simple
life is one of the transcendental beliefs Chris is trying to follow. An example of this is when
Krakauer says, Alex insisted on giving Gallien his watch, his comb, and what he said was all his
money: eighty five cents in loose change (Krakauer 7). This shows that Alex, aka Chris, wants to
give all of his belongings away to live a more simple life. Chris obviously gets the idea of a simple
life from Henry David Thoreauwho preaches simplicity. Thoreau says, An honest man has no need
to count more than... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is when Chris says, This is the last communication you shall receive from
me. I now walk out to live amongst the wild. Take care, it was great knowing you (Krakauer 69).
This shows that Chris wanted to venture out on his own and live amongst the wild for a little
while. Henry David Thoreau taught that if someone wanted to take a different way in their life
then they should be allowed to do so. Thoreau says, If a man does not keep pace with his
companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music that he
hears, however measured or far away (Thoreau). This quote relates to Chris McCandless because it
states that if someone wants to take a different route in life, then he should be allowed to.
Individualism and stepping to the beat of a different drummer is another main key to living a
transcendental lifestyle. Another example of a transcendental belief is living

The company gain additional promotion from the designer and artist engagement with the product
that will strengthen its customer relationship and also indirectly creating a community for the brand.
Price Strategies
Cost Based Pricing
The price of the bags are based on cost of goods sold and marketing conditions on setting the
price. This cost strategy will be used for the sport s series bag of M Series. On the current
market, selected brands offer shoe compartments and this products are priced higher than regular
bags. So, the company will price the bag with its cost of goods sold and marketing factors such as
the price of the competitors and the product value of the bag.
Psychological Pricing
Since the company s target market is students with low savings level. Student lifstyle bags will
be priced at Php 999 instead of Php 1,000, to create less in consumer s mind. Students perceived
prices exceeding the amount of Php 1,000 as expensive. So, the company will position the item
price in such a way that it will not be too expensive for its primary market but still profitable for
the company.
Bundle Pricing
Related products like wallets or pouch and bags will be combined and sold at a bundle price.
Pouches and wallets will be sold at 3 for 250 to reduced the item price and create a discount and

Lunar Eclipse
Lunar eclipse

The June 2011 total eclipse
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its umbra (shadow).
This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned (in syzygy ) exactly, or very
closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can only occur the night of a full
moon. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the Moon s location relative to its orbital
nodes. Unlike a solar eclipse, which can only be viewed from a certain relatively small area of the
world, a lunar eclipse may be viewed from anywhere on the night side of the Earth. A lunar eclipse
lasts for a few hours, whereas a total solar eclipse lasts for only a few minutes at any given place,

Shorter wavelengths are more likely to be scattered by the air molecules and the small particles,
and so by the time the light has passed through the atmosphere, the longer wavelengths dominate.
This resulting light we perceive as red. This is the same effect that causes sunsets and sunrises to
turn the sky a reddish color; an alternative way of considering the problem is to realize that, as
viewed from the Moon, the Sun would appear to be setting (or rising) behind the Earth.
The amount of refracted light depends on the amount of dust or clouds in the atmosphere; this
also controls how much light is scattered. In general, the dustier the atmosphere, the more that
other wavelengths of light will be removed (compared to red light), leaving the resulting light a
deeper red color. This causes the resulting coppery red hue of the Moon to vary from one eclipse
to the next. Volcanoes are notable for expelling large quantities of dust into the atmosphere, and a
large eruption shortly before an eclipse can have a large effect on the resulting color.
Danjon scale
The following scale (the Danjon scale) was devised by AndrГ© Danjon for rating the overall
darkness of lunar eclipses:[4]
L=0: Very dark eclipse. Moon almost invisible, especially at mid totality. L=1: Dark eclipse, gray or
brownish in coloration. Details

Role Of Servants In Volpone
The portrayal of servants in Shakespeare s and Jonson s plays is contrasting. In Jonson s city
comedies servants are depicted as unethical, manipulating their masters greed and egocentrism in
order to fulfill their own plans and goals. On the other hand, in Shakespeare s pastoral comedies
servants are portrayed as loyal, devoted, reliable and helpful to their masters.
To be more specific, in Jonson s city comedy Volpone the city is portrayed as a dog eat dog,
antagonistic competitive world which is profit orientated, where everything is commodified. In
other words, it is a society that is governed only by greed and profit. Therefore, almost all of his
characters are greedy for power, money, food, alcohol or sex. Jonson satirizes that... Show more

Jonson s connection to Aesop s Fables is obvious, as all the character names in Volpone recall
animals, insects or birds. For example Volpone means fox in Italian, Mosca means Fly etc. In
that sense, Volpone draws from a tradition of Aesopian beast fables. Jonson wants to create an
allegory of greed and also emphasizes that social and religious principles yield to greed and avarice;
human beings are reduced to the level of beasts and lose their elevated status.
Therefore, Volpone is a magnifico, a noble man of the Venetian Republic, clever but totally selfish
and lustful whose only purpose in life is to accumulate gold. He is so materialistic that not only has
he replaced God with gold, but he also worships his gold as his God. He always tries to deceive and
take advantage of other people, usually naive characters. His servant Mosca (which is an Italian
word used to describe a kind of fly that is fed on dead meat) is a parasite. A parasite does not hunt,
does not work in order to survive. Similarly, Mosca is a human being who is lazy, who does not
struggle in order to acquire a livelihood. Mosca is also very clever and canny. He is absolutely
necessary for Volpone, because he is the one who can put his master s

The Bureaucratic System Of Public Administration
Introduction How Kristin Died is a prime example of one of the many issues inherent within the
bureaucratic system and the misfortunes that can stem from it. This case forever changed the lives
of those involved and unfortunately resulted in the death of Kristin Lardner, a 21 year old college
student, at the hands of Michael Cartier, her estranged boyfriend. It is important to public
administration because public administration contains many issues of hierarchy and redundancy.
Public administration also has the power to mold the environments where it is present in many
ways. This case is strongly related to organizational theory, the relationship organizations have with
the environment and how individuals behave within. When presented, the information within the
case surrounding the details of Kristin s death proves that had the bureaucracies involved taken the
necessary preventative measures, this tragedy may not have occurred. The main individuals of this
case include: Kristin Lardner, Michael Cartier, Tom Case and Rose Ryan. Although others were
involved, these individuals had the most influence within the case. Although Lardner was originally
from Washington, DC, this event takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, where she attends college
in the early 1990 s. History Cartier showed signs of trouble very early on. As a child it is stated
that he would light matches behind a gas stove, and even mutilated his pet rabbit. Due to these acts,

A Study On Downward Spiral
Downward Spiral On March 8, 2014 a Malaysia Air Boeing 777 with 239 people on board
disappeared over the waters off Southeast Asia. (CBS News). Many families, friends, and
workers of the Malaysian Airlines have been affected after this accident. It is ideal for airplanes
to be safe; airplanes are a necessity for families to visit families in another country, work in
another country, or just use airplanes for transportation. Money is paid toward the plane ticket
and the seat provided. It is only fair in cases of accidents like these that the families of victims
get entitled to compensation; since that s the only thing left for the families to fight the system
about. It s not fair if the government just says sorry that someone got hurt or severely injured. If
accidents happen once, it can happen again, saying sorry will not help what is lost in the family.
The Flight 370 had 227 passengers, including 2 infants and 12 crew members. This plane crash
has made families lose the ones they love without saying goodbye and left with no answers in
why their love ones are gone. Families of the passengers and crew members are stuck wondering
how and why this plane has crashed. They are stuck thinking how unfair it is for their love ones
to disappear not by choice but by ending up dead or missing in this plane crash. As the world is
looking for answers, some victims were revealed. Malaysia Airlineshad engineers, stunt man, and an

Hamlet Movie Adaptation
Hamlet was written in 1609 by William Shakespeare; Shakespeare is one of the greatest poets and
playwrights. Since the original performance of Hamlet, there have been many movie adaptations.
Some of the many well known film directors for these movies are Kenneth Branagh, Franco
Zeffirelli and Sir Laurence Olivier. From the above film directors, I will compare and contrast
Zeffirelli s production of Hamletto the original Shakespeare s play Hamlet.
Zeffirelli s version of Hamlet is one of the sound versions of Hamlet. It was produced and starred
Mel Gibson in the late 1900s. Comparing the film version of Hamlet to the play, Zeffirelli has
made noticeable changes in the movie including some clothing choices and characters reactions. He
also altered and cut lines from the original Shakespeare play.
Shakespeare centralized the theme of revenge in the ghost scene in Act 1 Scene 5 with the use of
literary devices. In the movie adaptation, Zeffirelli used a different approach to portray the theme,
without the use of any literary devices. He instead used costume choices, characters reactions and
different word choices.
Zeffirelli used a creative way to portray Hamlet s father wearing a white shirt with black pants
instead of Shakespeare s choice of armour. He used this to show how Hamlet s father would look
in 90 s society. He made Hamlet wear black clothing throughout the movie to show that Hamlet was
the only one who cared and grieved throughout his mother s marriage and until his own death.
Zeffirelli changed the characters reactions throughout the scenes. One of the character changes is
during Hamlet s father s ghost soliloquy. Instead of his father being projected as angry towards
his wife and his brother in the movie, he uses a calm tone. In the movie while Hamlet was
listening to his father, he should have looked angry and upset. Instead he had no emotions while
listening to his father. In the movie, he should have an angry tone and should be eager to plot
revenge on who killed his father, instead he did not talk throughout his father s death story.
Zeffirelli chose this so that the audience will wait and anticipate when Hamlet s anger will grow
and his reaction during the scene.

Is doing so ever morally legitimate?
No. Kant s 2nd categorical imperatives stated that we need to treat humanity always an end and
never as a means. (Shaw, Barry amp; Sansbury, 2009, pg77) According to the case, Ford did not put
a human s life as the first priority; in fact, they placed a monetary value on a human s life. They are
using the human life to determine whether their decision is profitable in the cost benefit analysis
which is against Kantianism. (67 words)
6. What responsibilities to its customers do you think Ford had? What are the most important moral
rights, if any, operating in the Pinto case?
Ford should produce the products that are safe to be used. Besides that, Ford should also be honest
to the customer by providing the truth information to the customer. In this case, the most important
moral rights is every human being has the inherent right to live. Thus, Ford should disclose the
dangerous of their products to the customer. (59 words)
7. Would it have made a moral difference if the savings resulting from not improving the Pinto gas
tank had been passed on to Ford s customer? Could a rational customer have chosen to save a few
dollars and risk having the more dangerous gas tank? What if Ford had told potential customers
about its decision?
No. There would not have made a moral difference since the products are dangerous which might
risk the human s life.

The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells Essays
The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells gives an account of a man s descent into madness as the result
of his scientific feat, invisibility. Griffin, the invisible man, first appears as a mysterious
stranger, bandaged and seeking shelter and recluse but progressively transforms into a lawless
individual with a proposition to initiate a reign of terror. The change in Griffin s character occurs
due to his invisibility and the power it provides because there is no one, on this view, who is iron
willed enough to maintain his morality and find the strength of purpose to keep his hands off what
does not belong to him, when he is able to take whatever he wants from the market stalls without
fear of being discovered, to enter houses and sleep with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The invisible man begins to feel limitless and superior to average man, he feels that an invisible
man is a man of power (Wells). Being invisible and the subsequent notion of invincibility causes
the invisible man to act as he pleases as his inhibitions disappear as the fear of being reprimanded
is removed. The absence of consequences strips away the good in Griffin s nature and fosters his
madness as he starts stealing from the markets and begins his spree of breaking into houses.
However, the invisibility that Griffin viewed as power ultimately is a poison as the invisible
man must sacrifice greatly for his for his power. The invisible man schemes grand dreams that
can be realized through his invisibility but discovers that no doubt invisibility made it possible to
get them, but it made it impossible to enjoy them when they are got (Wells 121). Because of his
invisibility, the invisible man finds himself ostracized, in a state of danger, and no longer able to
enjoy everyday customs like eating lunch at a restaurant. Griffin finds himself even unable to
celebrate his discovery with others with fear of that they might steal credit for his feat or that the
exposure might cause a rejection. Due to his invisible state, his grandest ambitions are trivialized
and frustrated by the very discovery that spurred those ambitions (Beiderwell). The anger, madness,
and mania that envelop the invisible man all stem from the abuse of his

The white blouse is also a basic item in male costume, tightened at the waist with a woolen sash or
leather belt. This is usually worn with narrow, white trousers. A typical piece of headgear for men
is the hat made of lambskin, black felt, or straw depending on the time of year and the local
tradition. Romania preserved a significant number of traditional customs and celebrations manifest
within the strong community of the village. Ceremonies dedicated to the significant moments of
one s life (birth, wedding, death), to natural cycles (such as solstice, equinox, harvest, springtime) or
to the big religious celebrations, follow the same archaic mythical rituals they did a thousand years
ago. Even though preformed in 21st century in villages marked by modernization, such traditional
rites haven t diminish their prestige. They still provide viable answers to how to live in harmony
with the environment and community, that the present social and economical system cannot furnish.
During winter solstice, when the sun is weak and frost and dryness take over, Romanian peasants
conceived ceremonies to help the Sun and Nature to overcome this temporary crisis. For 12 days
between Christmas and St. John on January 7th, all Romanian villages have specific celebrations,
starting with children s caroling on Christmas eve: Mos Ajun or Buna Dimineata (Good Morning).

Trauma In Popular Media
I.What is the media outlet? Trauma is frequently depicted in various forms of popular media.
Media outlets such as movies, television series, books, music, the daily news and any other
form of media have at least expressed a traumatic event. One of the media outlets that tend to
display trauma often are movies. Movies are powerful enough to have a massive impact on
society for various reasons. With its impact, movies can provide people who are in unfavorable
situation a sense of hope, fulfil the fantasy and dreams of both children and adults and overall
allow society to escape for an hour or two from their reality. Some movies such as Deepwater

Critical Appreciation Of Henry James
Henry James, like Shakespeare, had the exceptional quality in divining and rendering the poetry of
female psyche. Only a few novelists who have shown better understanding of tender and dreamy
hearts of women than James were Jane Austen, George Eliot, Sir Walter Scott, George Meredith
and Thomas Hardy.
James was a keen observer and could distinguish between American and European women. He was
deeply affected by American women s spiritual charm and moral beauty. That is why George Eliots
heroines Dorothea Brooke and Gwendolen Harleth, in particular, is the nearest approximation of
James s own heroines. Reviewing Middlemarch, James wrote about Dorothea: ` she exhales a sort
of aroma of spiritual sweetness. In deepest level, he was inspired by emotion and intuition rather
than by intelligence and intellect. Due to certain deep, psychological reasons the young American
woman evoked the strongest spiritual response in James till the end. As for his European heroines
like Christina Light, Eugenia and Madam de Vionnet they represent a different order and style of
charm. Their appeal is that of `achieved woman . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no doubt that James s own repressed sexuality, which breaks out in the later fiction is
chiefly responsible for his emotional shrinking and diffidence in the presence of roused
sexuality. Isabel Archer s case is often cited as a typical example of sexual fear and frigidity.
Perhaps deep down in her puritan psyche, there is still the idea of essential ugliness and
bestiality of sex an idea which somehow is not wholly dissipated, for all her cultural
enlightenment. In fact her very refinement of spirit compounds her errors and adds to such
distortions in her vision. Her rejection of Caspar Goodwood, in particular, appears to be a
rejection of male sexuality roused to a desperate pitch. Somehow her spirit quailed at the thought of
her body s violation by so insistent a

Art Reflection Essay Example
This summer I spent my time on South Street, in a store that has a long history there. I came in as
an intern and left a more experienced photographer. In this reflection essay I will discuss the place
in which I interned, the information I researched about my field and what I ultimately learned by
the end of this experience. My internship was hosted at Eye s Gallery, off of South Street,
Philadelphia. This store is related to the famous Magic Gardens, a permanent installation of Isaiah
Zagars mosaic art. Eye s Gallery itself was established by his wife, Julia Zagar, and it is a
boutique focusing around Latin American Folk Art. Many of their original merchandise came
from the artists they met while they served in the Peace Corps. Now they have expanded to
include an extensive collection of jewelry, clothes and include influences from South East Asia.
The store opened in 1968 (Udell), after the building served as their home for many years. My job
at Eye s Gallery was to serve as a product photographer, but my skills were also utilized in fashion
shoots and social media curating. Product photographyis mainly about capturing merchandise in a
way that makes the appealing, makes the viewer want to purchase it. This is exactly what I
aimed to do during my internship. Many of the shoots I was assigned focused on jewelry, which
is the big seller for the store. I was also given a few fashion shoots, where I had to utilize models to
make the clothes appealing. I read an

The Ideological Differences Between The USAd The USSR
Breuna Jones
April 24, 2016
The Ideological Differences between the USA and USSR
The main cause for the USA and the USSR to split was their ideological differences. They had
many different views when it came to economics, foreign policy, and civil liberties. These
differences in opinions gave them many reason to dislike one another.
Many ideological differences divided the United States and the Soviet Union. One of the main
ideological differences were capitalist versus communism. The United States were capitalists
they wanted people to be able to have certain freedoms. For example, as freedom of press,
election, and speech. They wanted the people to be able to keep what belonged to them. The
United States wanted free lands. They didn t want them to be controlled by Axis powers
(Germany, Hungary, Italy, and Japan). They also wanted the people to be able to own businesses
and have a say in electing rulers. The USA also believed the government should not interfere with
religion or the people s everyday lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare
Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare
In Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra, the presentation and development of the relationships
among the triumvirs, Caesar, Antony and Lepidus becomes a pivotal concern. As the play
progresses, the dynamics of the triumvirate changes and becomes more complicated, providing the
audience with the main political conflict that sometimes overshadows the romance of the title
characters in the play. Shakespeare provides the audience with several different images of the
triumvirate through different characters.
The play s first mentioning of the triumvirate is, in essence, a masculine Roman perspective of a
soldier. This is brought about through Philo and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the end of Act I Scene I, the audience sees two Roman soldiers, speaking with disappointment of
their once great general, Mark Antony, who has turned into a strumpet s fool . Apparently enough,
Antony s disregard towards the messengers from Rome, which prompts Demetrius to say Is
Caesar with Antonius prized so slight? is an indication to the possible collapse of the
triumvirate. Philo s comment, sometimes when he is not Antony he comes too short of that
great property which still should go with Antony displays clearly Antony s failure in his duty as
one of the three emperors. The servants, on the contrary recognize Lepidus s failure in playing
his role as a peace maker among the members of the triumvirate. He is compared to a reed and
does not live up his position and compares his effectiveness to the holes where eyes should be . It
becomes clear that the relationships among the members of the triumvirs is a cause for attention as
we are introduced by Philo to Antony s disregard for Caesar s messages and Lepidus s failure in
his effort at peacemaking. The supposed strength of this union is subjected to doubts and
reservations as unity among the members is deficient.

Mildred Pierce Themes
Personally, Veda s convinced me that alligators have the right idea. They eat their young,
Mildred s friend, Ida, echoes what is seemingly the general consensus upon viewing the film
Mildred Pierce (1945). In James M. Cain s 1945 hardboiled crime novel of the same name, we re
taken on a whirlwind ride as Mildred separates from her husband, goes into the restaurant business,
and tries to give her daughter, Veda, everything she desires. In the filmadaptation, we re also taken
on a whirlwind ride, but this time in the form of a murder mystery. Hollywood can t be blamed for
twisting the story into the classic film noir that audiences craved, but there s no denying the vastly

Greed, family bonds, and independence are also key players in the story as Mildred fights to
please Veda and wait upon her every whim. The novel s narrative configuration lends itself more
to enhancing the betrayal aspect of the story, Mildred finding Veda and Monte in bed, Veda
attributing the fake loss of her singing voice to Mildred nearly strangling her, or Veda leaving
Mildred with the truth of her reconciliation simply being a ploy. However, the film is much more
suited for conveying the theme of greed. Interestingly enough, the Motion Picture Production
Code was too strict at the time to allow a strict adaptation of the novel s events. Thus, the murder
mystery was created to send Veda to jail for breaking the law and the sexual betrayal was toned
down, therefore guiding the filmmakers to exploit the greedy, obsessive aspects of Veda in the
case of the film to allow the audience to develop their hatred towards her. The viewer could
understand Mildred s desire to please her daughter, and her immense love for her, so the film s
use of flashbacks makes the viewer wonder whether Mildred is truly describing how awful Veda
was to her over the course of the story. The omniscient nature of the Cain novel reveals Veda s
flaws as they occurred, but Mildred could easily be applying a filter to make her daughter seem
better than she is or, perhaps, worse. The film s configuration is also wonderful at trying to make
the viewer consider the dangers of the greed, independence, and betrayal occurring on screen, as
they know what is coming for Monte they just not entirely sure

The Origins Of The Inuit Culture
A culture is known to be a group of people, usually a group of First Nations people who share the
same knowledge, beliefs, values, languages, experiences, etc. amongst each other as a community.
Those cultural knowledge and activities continue to be passed down to younger generations as time
goes on. First Nationscultures are very important to many First Nations people because it is like the

Impact Of The Smartphone On Students, Teachers, And...
The relatively recent escalation of smartphones across the world has brought about many
circumstances that no one had imagined prior to the 21st century. One potentially major impact of
the smartphone is its effect on students, teachers, and educational facilities. In this paper, I will
explore the impact of the rhetorical devices used by the authors of two scholarly articles from
different academic fields. Using Smartphones to Supplement Classroom Reading by Karen Bromley
is written in the applied field of education; and, You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make
him learn: Smartphone use in higher educationby Chad C. Tossell and his team of authors
originates from the academic field of the social sciences. Although Bromley and Tossell are both
writing on the impact of smartphones in education, their differing uses of rhetorical devices allows
Tossell to effectively reach a scholarly audience, while Bromley s article is appealing to the general
public.
1. Overview of Each Article
In Using Smartphones to Supplement Classroom Reading, Karen Bromley, a professor at
Binghamton University in New York, investigates a how the use of a smartphone to read affects
herself and how it might impact students. She emphasizes the aspect of using a smartphone to
perform minor research tasks while reading, such as searching for definitions of words or additional
context. Continuing to examine the exploratory side of smartphones, Bromley suggests that having

Disadvantages Of The Partnership Act 1891
According to the Partnership Act 1891 (SA), section 1(1), a partnership is defined in four sections.
These sections relate to a business which includes any trade, occupation or profession that is
carrying on involving continuity and system in common in terms of mutuality of rights and
obligations with all the partners, and lastly with a view to profit, therefore resulting in an
incorporated limited partnership. A corporation, however, is defined as a separate legal entity from
its owners that also has the rights and responsibilities that an individual or a partnership entity
possesses. This means that corporations and their shareholders have the right to participate in the
profits, but will not be held accountable for the company s debts and legal issues.
The advantages of a partnership are generally about the financials of the structure, whereas the
disadvantages tend to be more towards the liability of the partners involved. Comprehensively, the
advantages consist of the formation of a partnership which can be relatively simple as it involves
an express agreement in the form of a written agreement, usually acknowledged as a deed, or an
oral agreement. Partnerships can also be formed with no express partnership agreement, via
implication or conduct where the courts have held a partnership existed from the conduct of the
parties. Nevertheless, this meaning is unclear as negative rules exist also, for instance section
2(1)(a c) of the Partnership Act 1891 (SA) which state

Glory In The Iliad
The Iliad, written by Homer, is a war poem translated by Robert Fagles. The epic poem features
many of the Greek gods and goddesses as they manipulate mortals in the battle for Troy. While the
mortals may be controlled by the gods, everyone is susceptible to the struggle of obtaining glory.
Zeus is the god who decides to side with the Trojans, giving them power and encouraging them to
fight off the Achaean army. The other gods see him trying to give an unfair advantage to the
Trojans, and step in. Despite his attempts, he is ultimately unable to defeat the Achaeans and is

Wars are often dragged on for years, when they can end much sooner. The real problem arises
from the fact that many soldiers, or warriors in this case, get caught up in the fine details that
happen on the battlefields. These minuscule details of actions that take place lead to fighting
passionately, which only blinds the soldier from carrying out the intended mission. As Poseidon
takes the form of Thoas, he tries to get the Argives to fight the proper way. Poseidon believes he

Nothing gets accomplished when Zeus is involved other than equal amounts of casualties on both
the Trojan and Achaean armies. He decides his actions without rationality and this leads nowhere.
His passion and lust for glory trickles down onto the mortals he controls. Neither Trojans nor
Achaeans show a clear advancement due their passionate strategies. By Poseidon stepping in, he
provides insight to the Achaeans that there s more to life then dying over others, and rational

Foreign Language Learners Behavior On Captioned Videos
Gass, Sydorenko, Winke (2013) investigated foreign language learners behavior on captioned
videos. Their investigation aroused from various previous studies that showed positive evidence of
the effectiveness of captioned video in improving learners skill. However, many of prior studies did
not provide exact measurement on which part(s) learners paid attention to when they watched
captioned and non captioned video. The absence of precise measurement limited the finding of the
previous studies (Gass, Sydorenko, Winke 2013). Therefore, using eye tracking device, they wanted
to observe how often foreign languagelearners read captions on captioned videos. They also
intended to investigate whether specific foreign language and the familiarity of the video content
play role in learners attention to the captions.
Thirty three college level foreign language learners who are in their fourth semester were

participants are female and the rest are male. The writers were aware that their participants might

first part of the movie was set in 1930 s. This part of the movie addressed the issue of racism and
ageism before the time of the Civil Rights Movement. When the movie moves in to present day,
the story covers the struggles Evelyn is experiencing with menopause, or as it was sometime
called; the change of life. Fried Green Tomatoes is a story that bounces through generations of
women and the people around them. This is a classic story of Americana. The stories are used to
weave a web to make a point and draw people in to the events that shape the lives... Show more

Benefits of HT include relief of VMS (which can include hot flashes, night sweats, and rarely
formication, which is a sense of something crawling on the body (Thacker, 2014). Her marriage
to an unappreciative husband is the catalyst that brings about the change from a victim of low
self esteem to Towanda the Avenger . This is her avenging persona that rights the wrongs
inflicted upon women everywhere. When Ninny is first met by Evelyn, the first perception is
that she is a senile old lady, which is a typical view of ageism and the disregard society has of the
elderly. This is typical of ageism, systemic stereotyping of and discrimination against people
because they are old (Touhey, 2016, p.66). Ninny s reminiscing cultivates a sense of security
through recounting of comforting memories (Touhey, 2016, p. 68). But as the time passes,
Evelyn hears the stories of the strength of her feminine predecessors gaining the strength to fight
through the issues that plague her. Ninny gained a friend and a sense of security while Evelyn
gained self confidence. The value of relationships with other females begins to increase as they
usually live longer than the men in their life. She has lived a very rich life, but she lacks the
monetary means to take care of herself. She is dependent upon others to survive, yet she is a
mentally strong woman with a lot still to offer and experience. What is interesting to me is that

Itemized Tax Deductions for Individuals: Data Analysis
Summary
Reforming or limiting itemized tax deductions for individuals has gained the interest of
policymakers as one way to increase federal tax revenue, increase the share of taxes paid by higher
income tax filers, simplify the tax code, or reduce incentives that might lead to inefficient economic
behavior. However, limits on deductions could cause adverse economic effects or changes in the
distributional burden of the federal income ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, certain combinations of deduction limits may shift some tax filers to claim the standard
deduction instead of itemizing. In this case, the revenue increase by limiting itemized deduction
would be partially offset by more tax filers claiming the standard deduction.

Moral Reasoning And Moral Judgments
Over the last decades, research in moral psychology was dominated by the role of reasoning in
making moral judgments (Kohlberg, 1969; Turiel, 1983), while a more recent research emphasizes
the role of automatic emotional processes (Blair, 1995; Haidt, 2001; Pizzaro Salovey, 2002).
Therefore, there has been a great tension to whether intuitions or reasons play critical role in
making moral judgments. Haidt (2001) argues moral reasoning involves a conscious process, which
means that the process is slower, effortful, deliberate, and controllable, while moral intuition
process occurs unconsciously and thus, the process is faster, automatic and effortlessly. Thereby,
Haidt (2001) contends reasoning still play a role in moral judgments, nevertheless, it is most likely
as a post hoc attempt to justify one s intuition driven moral judgments. However, there are still some
studies maintaining reasons as the master in making moral judgments (Kohlberg, Levine, Hewer,
1983; Kuhn, 1991). Kuhn (1991) describes people still follow their reasoning to make judgments
even though it might contradicts with their initial intuitions. Greene, Sommerville, Nystrom,
Darley, and Cohen (2001) propose dual process theory in order to consolidate these two approaches.
They explain that both reasons and intuitions run in parallel or mutually competitive roles in
making moral judgments. They further describe that intuitions or known as automatic emotional
responses drive deontological judgments, while

Napalm And The Vietnam War
The Vietnam war was a very important war to the United States. There are some people that are
for the war but a lot of people that were against the war. I was opposed to this war. The three
things that were negative about the war was the use of Napalm, underground trails and boobytraps,
and draft cards. The reason that using Napalm was a negative impact to the war was because it
hurt innocent civilians. Just because the north Vietnamese were scattered everywhere and U.S
could not just drop it in one place the U.S. should ve used a different tactic to kill people. The
innocent civilians should not die when they have done nothing wrong, and you know it makes you
feel bad when you know you have killed innocent civilians. The other negative thing

Marshawn Lynch s Influence On American Football
As Seattle s star running back, Marshawn Lynch had his fair share of media time. Also followed
through his early years of football, Lynch had a love hate relationship with the media. He hated
the time he had to spend with them; they loved every second of coverage they could share with
the public. The interview that was observed was Lynch s Super Bowl XLIX where Lynch gave
one of the most memorable interactions that fans had ever witnessed. Prior to this encounter,
Lynch had been fined thousands of dollars for failing to show up for a media day. As Lynch
arrived for the Super Bowl interview, he instantly pulled out his phone and started a timer. He
warned the media that he had to be there for only four minutes and fifty one seconds and that...

His quality seems to be his biggest ploy to encourage spectators to make their own opinion of
him. Because of his use of the other maxims, Beckham loses that ability to move fans to think on
their own. His abiding to relevance makes the interview seem too rushed and forced, giving the
impression that he wants the interview to end as soon as possible. The flouting of quantity and
manner was seen in the more negative responses. With quantity, he would deny that anything that
the media recorded him saying and agree with others opinions when he previously so clearly
disagreed with. He seemed more untrustworthy in the way the media portrayed the interview. With
manner, he could not give clear, concise responses when he had to cast blame or deny blame. This
made Beckham seem nervous and unsure of what he was saying. The media had complete control
of how spectators would see things although Beckham tried to adhere to the cooperation

Presidential Candidate Donald Trump s Campaign Strategy...
I would like to discuss Presidential Candidate Donald Trump s campaign strategy and plan.
Donald Trump is a commonly known business mogul and celebrity. He is mainly known for his
very large ego and commentary as well as his Real Estate background passed down from his
father. He has gone bankrupt three times, which seems to be a large contradiction among his great
deal of success of which he claims. Regardless of his past Donald Trumphas decided and
announced that he is running for president for 2016. Trump has a large background in business
and real estate and if you watched the early debates, you would know that by him repeatedly
saying how great his business is and how much money he has made. Trump is no question
extremely successful with his claimed wealth and business status. Although Trump is successful
with his real estate, it does not mean that he will know what to do when he is in the White
House. Trump has no political background what so ever so it seems hard to believe that he
would be able to run the country. The lack of political knowledge Trump has is startling, yet he
has tremendous backing among polling results. He is in the lead now and has been for quite
some time now. He has said multiple times that he has good people that will work for him and
they will do a great job. His key phrase we are going to make our country great again has been the
main focus of every one of his speeches. He continuously states that he is going to make this

The Importance Of The Various Levels Of Government And...
For this assignment, I will outline the responsibilities of the various levels of government and
elected bodies by providing information of local, national and European government. In my
assignment, I will also include some hierarchical diagrams.
Everything we do or decide is influenced by politics. In the UK, there are many different levels of
Government that have an impact on our lives. One of these levels is the European Union. The three
main EU Institution are the European Commission, which promotes the common interest and the
current president of the European Commission is Jose Manuel Barroso; the European Council and
the Council, which is the voice of the Members States and the current president of the European
Council is Herman Van Rompuy; the European Parliamentthat although is not part of the UK
levels of government, it has a significant impact on European Union citizens. The European
Parliament, together with the Council, debates and passes European laws and adopts the EU s
budget. The European Parliament has 736 members who represents all 27 members states of the
EU. Its main role is to delegate legislation on issues such as transport, environment, equal
opportunities and movement of workers and goods. In conclusion, the European Parliament is the
voice of the people. The president of the European Parliament is Martin Schutz.
In the UK Parliament, the main body is the Central Government, which is responsible for the health

Why Is The Alchemist Important
An excerpt from the bible; For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also (Luke 12:34)
shows that your heart is there for you to make choices in order of finding what you value most.
Not everyone is able to find the significance in searching for treasure in life, however. Whether it
may be striving to find your true values, or having to chose between two of your favorite things
in order to move forward in life, not everything comes easy. Obstacles are placed in front of
everyone s path until they re able to find their treasure. Finding your treasure isn t possible if you
don t follow your heart. This was true, of course for the main character, Santiago, from The
Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. With the enlightenment and strength perceived from other figures in
the book, Santiago learns that with a heart full and determination, he could also find the treasure of
a Personal Legend. Through Santiago s decisions, The Alchemist examines the significance of
following your heart. The importance included within following your heart is found in the story
when Santiago follows his Personal Legend that he was bound to achieve after awakening from a
dream that convinced him to journey through the desert. An example of great remedy given by the
king has him explain that A mysterious force will begin to convince them that it will be
impossible for them to realize their Personal Legend (Coelho 21). When the words were first
spoken to Santiago, he had but no clue of what

Women In Their Eyes Were Watching God
The husbands in each novel consider women to be nothing outside of their marriages and do not
think women have a distinguished place of their own. The role that African American men play
in both books are pivotal to how readers see the oppression of Celie and Janie. It is important to
acknowledge that because there was little black men had power over, they exerted patriarchal
dominance over their wives. In Their Eyes Were Watching God Janie experiences the effects of this
and at this point is not strong enough to stand up and assert herself. Logan Killicks, Janie s first
husband, and Janie had very different perspectives on love. For him, loving his wifeinvolved only

reader would only need those few words to take away from it the point. It is clear that Albert
thinks Celie s life is worthless and because of this, the sins he commits against her do not matter.
It is understandable that for most of the novel Celie thinks it is not wise to stand up for herself
as she has witnessed a fraction of the repercussions it may cause. In this moment she grasps
some courage and shouts, I curse you, I say. What that mean? He say. I say, Until you do right
by me, everything you touch will crumble. He laugh. Who you think you is? He say. You can t
curse nobody. Look at you. You black, you pore, you ugly, you a woman. Goddam, he say, you

surprises him. His only defense is to insult her and yet he does so with some characteristics he too
possesses. Until this moment Mr._____ (Albert), looks through Celie and treats her as an object
that he can abuse and manipulated as his disposal. Janie and Celie s husbands both view them in a
similar manner. Although their personalities and internal mindsets differ, both of these women inch

Rocky Mountain Lander s Peak
The painting by Albert Bierstadt Rocky Mountain, Lander s Peak is truly magnificent. Its high
horizon line portrays a wide, vast piece of land containing a Native American village besides a lake,
sitting below the mountains in the background. The atmospheric perspective is present here with
the mountains being painted lighter, and not as detailed, than the rest of the painting. There is a
pretty prominent presence of a one point perspective, with the vanishing point being the light, oasis
looking, waterfall in the distance. The colors vibrancy are dependent on the clouds in the sky,
being it is clearly not a bright and sunny day, giving a more realistic feel to the whole composition.
The focus point, the waterfall, is painted with bright

Analyse and Compare the Significance and Effectiveness of...
It is a common view that the opening and ending of a novel is considered the most memorable
and pertinent. Therefore, both authors, Ishiguro and Atwood, utilise openings and endings in
their novels significantly. The opening of a novel plays a major part in establishing the tone of
what is to come, with the ending leaving a lasting, final impression on the reader. The security of
the first person narration in Never Let Me Go encourages the reader to engage with Kathy H in
order to destroy our relationship at the end. This disillusionment serves to anger the reader and
fuel our sense of disappointment. Never Let Me Go ends in uncertainty as Kathy drives away still
looking for Hailsham yet for the reader there is no uncertainty; we know... Show more content on

Therefore the story of Offred is also questioned in the ending, the Historical Notes. In the
beginning we are immediately plunged into a rather fragmented narrative, and a seemingly
nightmarish world (in this case the dystopian setting is Gilead) where we know very little about
what is going on or what is going to happen to Offred, the main character, sleeping in a gym
guarded by aunts . The state of shock and bewilderment created leads to the rest of the opening
being read in a state of suspense. The setting of a disused university gymnasium helps to achieve
a sense of tension as it subtly reminds the reader of the ideas of nuclear fallout: Offred had slept in
what had once been the gymnasium . Gymnasiums often feature in journalism as emergency
centres; this location immediately suggests to the reader that something is wrong. The reader is
confused as the narrative starts seemingly with a crisis though what that causes is not stated. The
first chapter is in past tense and is used to establish her situation and explore how the gymnasium
represents the past, with Offred wistfully longing for days of a bygone era. This is reinforced by
the narrator reminiscing about high school dances that would have been held in the gym, girls felt
skirted...later in mini skirts . It can be argued therefore, that the introduction of the novel serves as a
means to persuade the reader to read on; missing vital information and an unfamiliar use of the
setting achieve

  • 2. Dear Mr. President by Pink Essay Throughout the 2000s most mainstream music that was heard on the radio was pop, rap, and/or R B with the subject of the songs being of common thoughts nothing to make a stir about. One artist that developed during this time was Pink counteracting some notions about war, gay rights, and the general state of America with her song Dear Mr. President . I believe that Dear Mr. President should be included in MUSC2019 because this song brings together pop and folk influences while using different techniques such as repetition, metaphors and dynamics to enhance the effect of the song has on the audience. The verse starts with an acoustic guitar using a walking tempo and melancholy tone. Dear Mr. President, Come take a walk with me. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here she comes down a level from the previous verse reminding herself that to get her point across she need stay compose and returns to the original slow rhythm. In this verse she uses repetition to emphasize the power of the title lonely boy . Continuing with How can you say no child is left behind? Referring to Bush s No Child Left Behind Act implemented in an attempt to recuse Americas education system. In the fourth verse the guitar grows louder along with the harder questions being asked. What kind of father would take his own daughter s rights away? And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay? I can only imagine what the First Lady has to say. The verse addresses Bush s position on abortion and gay rights linking these issues to his wife, all of which could have an effect on her being a women herself. This verse is the peak of the song signalled by the rise in instrumentals and angry vocals. Throughout this 12 line verse hard work is repeated 9 times. Looking at the lyrics there seems to be a shift here from the main political focus we saw before to a more general message about the adversities that people in America face. The anger present dissipates quickly as the guitar slows the mood again closing the song in the same melancholy tone it began with. This song comes after 9/11 a time where a lot of songs expressed anger with the government. I believe though that Pink s song is a little different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dna Sequence Variation Of Different Ants Understanding the different populations in the world can be very interesting. It can be interesting because it is curious to question whether or not some species can be similar or different even if they live in different habitat. Therefore, this persuaded me to go deeper in figuring out if there is a relationship between different species that are raised and born in different habitat. This lead me to the question: If investigating the DNA sequence variation of different ants, will there be a significant different in the population of the ants being found in different areas? It is hypothesized that there will be a significant difference in the DNA sequence if the ants are found in different areas because they do live in different habitats... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the ants were placed in the gel it was sent off to be sequence and that is where the phylogenetic tree was able to be created to analyze if there is a significant difference in the two species. When performing the experiment, the trickiest part in doing this experiment is removing the supernatant from the tube and leaving a small pellet of DNA because in some of the tube the pellet was hard to see with a naked eye. Therefore, the supernatant had to be removed carefully so that none of the pellet DNA was removed along with it. When going through this experiment, three different trials were performed because put in the spectrophotometer, the DNA of the ants were not picking up in the files. Carpenter ants were used at first, then gall wasps were used and last we went back and used carpenter ants and red fire ants. When we used the carpenter ants again along with the red fire ants, DNA was found and we were able to sequence the DNA. This figure shows the gel electrophoresis were we performed our first ant. Although the data may look good. It was not good because no DNA was found in the ants through this process. This figure shows the spectrophotometer that was done for one of the gall wasp flies. It demonstrated that one of the DNA barely presented in the TE solution which was a good result. However, we used 10 gall wasp and only one presented good data with the DNA. The others did not which caused use to use another organism. When we used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ancient Mariner Theme Most people can easily identify with the theme: life is an on going exploration of the unknown. This applies to the people who set out to do something, and then bang! Plot twist! Turning an adventure into the unexpected; tsunami, your car running out of gas on the way to school, or even getting food poisoning after going to a five star restaurant, etc. It applies to many fiction writing such as The Rime Of The Ancient Marinerby Samuel Taylor Coleridge, which obviously explains the curse of an albatrosson the mariner and his crew. Many nonfiction writings use this theme as well, such as Icy Rescue as Seas Claim a cruise ship by Graham Bowley and Andrew C. Revkinnov, which actually goes into details explaining the events of a cruise ship... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As we live and life goes on we are faces with many ambiguity events. Many writers including Graham Bowley and Andrew C. Revkinnov in their writing. Icy rescue as seas claim a cruise ship , have tackled the theme: life is an ongoing exploration of the unknown. Contemplate how life has become unexpected for Jennifer Enders, another traveler, traveling the Atlantic with her husband. Jennifer is described to be warmhearted, by the way she spoke of the sinking ship. Jennifer reports on the poor circumstances for the ship s crew and passengers, when she says it is really scary to see a ship sinking out your porthole. The people were asked to donate clothes to those coming in from the lifeboats. As Jennifer alternates the problem she stated we were a rescue ship in this sentence, it helps us realize how serious the situation is. The fact that the ship had proudly plowed the Atlantic for 40 years , tells us that the passengers not anyone, had expected that ship to sink after departure. Maybe the hole in the ship was caused by a terrorist or maybe the ship was old and had weathered. But this cruise had brought even bigger bombshells. Fifty passengers were lifted up to or father, while survived by the other 154 people who were able to survive a modern titanic. Those of which have fallen into that strange category of luck that would not be necessary had not horrendous bad future preceded it. This all adds up to be an unexpected occurrence, since no one would pay $1,000 to $16,000 to cruise on a titanic junior! The passenger lives all crumbling and spinning while Jennifer never expected to come across something so tragic requiring many unexpected changes to their sailing and their lives. • 7. Discretion Of A Law Enforcement Officer As a law enforcement officer, every situation will be handled differently. Everything is not always black and white, in fact when it comes to policing there are a lot of grey areas. This is where discretion plays an important role. An officer will use discretion in almost every situation he or she encounters; however there are times where an officer s discretion is limited. There are many different factors that come in to play, some that are limiting to an officer s discretion, and some that increase an officer s discretion. The role that discretion plays in policing is important because the decisions that an officer makes affect the lives of the citizens, such as whether an individual should be arrested or not. Where you have discretion, you have discretion that is misused and you also have the need to control discretion. The role that discretion plays in policing is important because it affects each and every decision that a law enforcement officer makes. First, it is important to understand what discretion is. Discretion is defined as an official action by a criminal justice official based on that individual s judgment about the best course of action (Walker Katz, 2013, p. 351). This means that a law enforcement officer has the freedom to act on their own judgment. This definition of discretion is the reason why law enforcement officers have been known as street level bureaucrats (Walker Katz, 2013, p. 352). Policeofficers use discretion to make the ... • 8. Pro And Negative Effects Of Medical Technology Though underappreciated, advancements in medical technology are imperative to the success of the human race as a whole. For instance, some of the most common medical procedures such as amputation, surgeries, the modern ambulance, and anesthesia inhalers were created and popularized during the United States Civil War (Rowe). Both during the civil war and currently, the advancements decrease death tolls while making modern and future treatments safer, faster, and overall more efficient. They have also given the more prevailing advancements a stepping stone to develop and grow from, allowing the forthcoming medical technology to further advance. We see this same pattern happening perpetually, creating a loop of advancements that continue to build upon themselves and each other. The U.S. has the most medically advanced medical care system in the world. However, its services are mainly available to the affluent and middle class consumers who have the financial means to demand these services (Botehlo 1991) (Dewar). Full medical care isn t always readily available to all; only those who may afford it have access to it. This is a result of the cost of the services themselves being higher, due to the lack of supply (so to speak) and a growing demand. However, Dewar stated, The practice of defensive medicine had an indirect impact on technology utilization through the pressure for increased availability of technology (Dewar). These pressures have encouraged the United States as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Similarities Between Chris Mccandless And John Krakauer Chris McCandless, Jon Krakauer, and Henry David Thoreau embrace the ideal of a transcendental lifestyle. In the book, Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer shows the connection between Chris McCandless and Henry David Thoreau. They both believe in certain points such as living deliberately, simplicity, and individualism. Within the book, Into the Wild, Krakauer reveals the philosophy of Transcendentalism through living deliberately, simplicity, and individualism. Having a simple life is one of the transcendental beliefs Chris is trying to follow. An example of this is when Krakauer says, Alex insisted on giving Gallien his watch, his comb, and what he said was all his money: eighty five cents in loose change (Krakauer 7). This shows that Alex, aka Chris, wants to give all of his belongings away to live a more simple life. Chris obviously gets the idea of a simple life from Henry David Thoreauwho preaches simplicity. I now walk out to live amongst the wild. Take care, it was great knowing you (Krakauer 69). This shows that Chris wanted to venture out on his own and live amongst the wild for a little while. Henry David Thoreau taught that if someone wanted to take a different way in their life then they should be allowed to do so. Thoreau says, If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music that he hears, however measured or far away (Thoreau). This quote relates to Chris McCandless because it states that if someone wants to take a different route in life, then he should be allowed to. Individualism and stepping to the beat of a different drummer is another main key to living a transcendental lifestyle. Another example of a transcendental belief is living ... • 13. Lunar Eclipse Lunar eclipse [pic] [pic] The June 2011 total eclipse A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its umbra (shadow). This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned (in syzygy ) exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can only occur the night of a full moon. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the Moon s location relative to its orbital nodes. Unlike a solar eclipse, which can only be viewed from a certain relatively small area of the world, a lunar eclipse may be viewed from anywhere on the night side of the Earth. A lunar eclipse lasts for a few hours, whereas a total solar eclipse lasts for only a few minutes at any given place, due ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shorter wavelengths are more likely to be scattered by the air molecules and the small particles, and so by the time the light has passed through the atmosphere, the longer wavelengths dominate. This resulting light we perceive as red. This is the same effect that causes sunsets and sunrises to turn the sky a reddish color; an alternative way of considering the problem is to realize that, as viewed from the Moon, the Sun would appear to be setting (or rising) behind the Earth. The amount of refracted light depends on the amount of dust or clouds in the atmosphere; this also controls how much light is scattered. In general, the dustier the atmosphere, the more that other wavelengths of light will be removed (compared to red light), leaving the resulting light a deeper red color. This causes the resulting coppery red hue of the Moon to vary from one eclipse to the next. Volcanoes are notable for expelling large quantities of dust into the atmosphere, and a large eruption shortly before an eclipse can have a large effect on the resulting color. Danjon scale The following scale (the Danjon scale) was devised by AndrГ© Danjon for rating the overall darkness of lunar eclipses:[4] L=0: Very dark eclipse. • 14. Role Of Servants In Volpone The portrayal of servants in Shakespeare s and Jonson s plays is contrasting. In Jonson s city comedies servants are depicted as unethical, manipulating their masters greed and egocentrism in order to fulfill their own plans and goals. On the other hand, in Shakespeare s pastoral comedies servants are portrayed as loyal, devoted, reliable and helpful to their masters. To be more specific, in Jonson s city comedy Volpone the city is portrayed as a dog eat dog, antagonistic competitive world which is profit orientated, where everything is commodified. In other words, it is a society that is governed only by greed and profit. Therefore, almost all of his characters are greedy for power, money, food, alcohol or sex. Jonson satirizes that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jonson s connection to Aesop s Fables is obvious, as all the character names in Volpone recall animals, insects or birds. For example Volpone means fox in Italian, Mosca means Fly etc. In that sense, Volpone draws from a tradition of Aesopian beast fables. Jonson wants to create an allegory of greed and also emphasizes that social and religious principles yield to greed and avarice; human beings are reduced to the level of beasts and lose their elevated status. Therefore, Volpone is a magnifico, a noble man of the Venetian Republic, clever but totally selfish and lustful whose only purpose in life is to accumulate gold. He is so materialistic that not only has he replaced God with gold, but he also worships his gold as his God. He always tries to deceive and take advantage of other people, usually naive characters. His servant Mosca (which is an Italian word used to describe a kind of fly that is fed on dead meat) is a parasite. A parasite does not hunt, does not work in order to survive. Similarly, Mosca is a human being who is lazy, who does not struggle in order to acquire a livelihood. Mosca is also very clever and canny. The Bureaucratic System Of Public Administration Introduction How Kristin Died is a prime example of one of the many issues inherent within the bureaucratic system and the misfortunes that can stem from it. This case forever changed the lives of those involved and unfortunately resulted in the death of Kristin Lardner, a 21 year old college student, at the hands of Michael Cartier, her estranged boyfriend. It is important to public administration because public administration contains many issues of hierarchy and redundancy. Public administration also has the power to mold the environments where it is present in many ways. This case is strongly related to organizational theory, the relationship organizations have with the environment and how individuals behave within. When presented, the information within the case surrounding the details of Kristin s death proves that had the bureaucracies involved taken the necessary preventative measures, this tragedy may not have occurred. The main individuals of this case include: Kristin Lardner, Michael Cartier, Tom Case and Rose Ryan. Although others were involved, these individuals had the most influence within the case. Although Lardner was originally from Washington, DC, this event takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, where she attends college in the early 1990 s. Many families, friends, and workers of the Malaysian Airlines have been affected after this accident. It is ideal for airplanes to be safe; airplanes are a necessity for families to visit families in another country, work in another country, or just use airplanes for transportation. Money is paid toward the plane ticket and the seat provided. It is only fair in cases of accidents like these that the families of victims get entitled to compensation; since that s the only thing left for the families to fight the system about. It s not fair if the government just says sorry that someone got hurt or severely injured. If accidents happen once, it can happen again, saying sorry will not help what is lost in the family. The Flight 370 had 227 passengers, including 2 infants and 12 crew members. This plane crash has made families lose the ones they love without saying goodbye and left with no answers in why their love ones are gone. Families of the passengers and crew members are stuck wondering how and why this plane has crashed. • 17. Hamlet Movie Adaptation Hamlet was written in 1609 by William Shakespeare; Shakespeare is one of the greatest poets and playwrights. Since the original performance of Hamlet, there have been many movie adaptations. Some of the many well known film directors for these movies are Kenneth Branagh, Franco Zeffirelli and Sir Laurence Olivier. From the above film directors, I will compare and contrast Zeffirelli s production of Hamletto the original Shakespeare s play Hamlet. Zeffirelli s version of Hamlet is one of the sound versions of Hamlet. It was produced and starred Mel Gibson in the late 1900s. Comparing the film version of Hamlet to the play, Zeffirelli has made noticeable changes in the movie including some clothing choices and characters reactions. He also altered and cut lines from the original Shakespeare play. Shakespeare centralized the theme of revenge in the ghost scene in Act 1 Scene 5 with the use of literary devices. In the movie adaptation, Zeffirelli used a different approach to portray the theme, without the use of any literary devices. He instead used costume choices, characters reactions and different word choices. Zeffirelli used a creative way to portray Hamlet s father wearing a white shirt with black pants instead of Shakespeare s choice of armour. He used this to show how Hamlet s father would look in 90 s society. He made Hamlet wear black clothing throughout the movie to show that Hamlet was the only one who cared and grieved throughout his mother s marriage and until his own death. Zeffirelli changed the characters reactions throughout the scenes. One of the character changes is during Hamlet s father s ghost soliloquy. Instead of his father being projected as angry towards his wife and his brother in the movie, he uses a calm tone. In the movie while Hamlet was listening to his father, he should have looked angry and upset. Instead he had no emotions while listening to his father. In the movie, he should have an angry tone and should be eager to plot revenge on who killed his father, instead he did not talk throughout his father s death story. Zeffirelli chose this so that the audience will wait and anticipate when Hamlet s anger will grow and his reaction during the scene. With the removal and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Griffin, the invisible man, first appears as a mysterious stranger, bandaged and seeking shelter and recluse but progressively transforms into a lawless individual with a proposition to initiate a reign of terror. The change in Griffin s character occurs due to his invisibility and the power it provides because there is no one, on this view, who is iron willed enough to maintain his morality and find the strength of purpose to keep his hands off what does not belong to him, when he is able to take whatever he wants from the market stalls without fear of being discovered, to enter houses and sleep with... Being invisible and the subsequent notion of invincibility causes the invisible man to act as he pleases as his inhibitions disappear as the fear of being reprimanded is removed. The absence of consequences strips away the good in Griffin s nature and fosters his madness as he starts stealing from the markets and begins his spree of breaking into houses. However, the invisibility that Griffin viewed as power ultimately is a poison as the invisible man must sacrifice greatly for his for his power. The invisible man schemes grand dreams that can be realized through his invisibility but discovers that no doubt invisibility made it possible to get them, but it made it impossible to enjoy them when they are got (Wells 121). Because of his invisibility, the invisible man finds himself ostracized, in a state of danger, and no longer able to enjoy everyday customs like eating lunch at a restaurant. Griffin finds himself even unable to celebrate his discovery with others with fear of that they might steal credit for his feat or that the exposure might cause a rejection. Due to his invisible state, his grandest ambitions are trivialized and frustrated by the very discovery that spurred those ambitions (Beiderwell). • 22. Critical Appreciation Of Henry James Henry James, like Shakespeare, had the exceptional quality in divining and rendering the poetry of female psyche. Only a few novelists who have shown better understanding of tender and dreamy hearts of women than James were Jane Austen, George Eliot, Sir Walter Scott, George Meredith and Thomas Hardy. James was a keen observer and could distinguish between American and European women. He was deeply affected by American women s spiritual charm and moral beauty. That is why George Eliots heroines Dorothea Brooke and Gwendolen Harleth, in particular, is the nearest approximation of James s own heroines. Reviewing Middlemarch, James wrote about Dorothea: ` she exhales a sort of aroma of spiritual sweetness. In deepest level, he was inspired by emotion and intuition rather than by intelligence and intellect. Due to certain deep, psychological reasons the young American woman evoked the strongest spiritual response in James till the end. As for his European heroines like Christina Light, Eugenia and Madam de Vionnet they represent a different order and style of charm. Their appeal is that of `achieved woman . ... Perhaps deep down in her puritan psyche, there is still the idea of essential ugliness and bestiality of sex an idea which somehow is not wholly dissipated, for all her cultural enlightenment. In fact her very refinement of spirit compounds her errors and adds to such distortions in her vision. In this reflection essay I will discuss the place in which I interned, the information I researched about my field and what I ultimately learned by the end of this experience. My internship was hosted at Eye s Gallery, off of South Street, Philadelphia. This store is related to the famous Magic Gardens, a permanent installation of Isaiah Zagars mosaic art. Eye s Gallery itself was established by his wife, Julia Zagar, and it is a boutique focusing around Latin American Folk Art. Philo s comment, sometimes when he is not Antony he comes too short of that great property which still should go with Antony displays clearly Antony s failure in his duty as one of the three emperors. The servants, on the contrary recognize Lepidus s failure in playing his role as a peace maker among the members of the triumvirate. Cain s 1945 hardboiled crime novel of the same name, we re taken on a whirlwind ride as Mildred separates from her husband, goes into the restaurant business, and tries to give her daughter, Veda, everything she desires. In the filmadaptation, we re also taken on a whirlwind ride, but this time in the form of a murder mystery. The novel s narrative configuration lends itself more to enhancing the betrayal aspect of the story, Mildred finding Veda and Monte in bed, Veda attributing the fake loss of her singing voice to Mildred nearly strangling her, or Veda leaving Mildred with the truth of her reconciliation simply being a ploy. However, the film is much more suited for conveying the theme of greed. Interestingly enough, the Motion Picture Production Code was too strict at the time to allow a strict adaptation of the novel s events. Thus, the murder mystery was created to send Veda to jail for breaking the law and the sexual betrayal was toned down, therefore guiding the filmmakers to exploit the greedy, obsessive aspects of Veda in the case of the film to allow the audience to develop their hatred towards her. The viewer could understand Mildred s desire to please her daughter, and her immense love for her, so the film s use of flashbacks makes the viewer wonder whether Mildred is truly describing how awful Veda was to her over the course of the story. The omniscient nature of the Cain novel reveals Veda s flaws as they occurred, but Mildred could easily be applying a filter to make her daughter seem better than she is or, perhaps, worse. The film s configuration is also wonderful at trying to make the viewer consider the dangers of the greed, independence, and betrayal occurring on screen, as they know what is coming for Monte they just not entirely sure ... • 31. Impact Of The Smartphone On Students, Teachers, And... The relatively recent escalation of smartphones across the world has brought about many circumstances that no one had imagined prior to the 21st century. One potentially major impact of the smartphone is its effect on students, teachers, and educational facilities. In this paper, I will explore the impact of the rhetorical devices used by the authors of two scholarly articles from different academic fields. Using Smartphones to Supplement Classroom Reading by Karen Bromley is written in the applied field of education; and, You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him learn: Smartphone use in higher educationby Chad C. Tossell and his team of authors originates from the academic field of the social sciences. Although Bromley and Tossell are both writing on the impact of smartphones in education, their differing uses of rhetorical devices allows Tossell to effectively reach a scholarly audience, while Bromley s article is appealing to the general public. 1. Overview of Each Article In Using Smartphones to Supplement Classroom Reading, Karen Bromley, a professor at Binghamton University in New York, investigates a how the use of a smartphone to read affects herself and how it might impact students. She emphasizes the aspect of using a smartphone to perform minor research tasks while reading, such as searching for definitions of words or additional context. • 33. Disadvantages Of The Partnership Act 1891 According to the Partnership Act 1891 (SA), section 1(1), a partnership is defined in four sections. These sections relate to a business which includes any trade, occupation or profession that is carrying on involving continuity and system in common in terms of mutuality of rights and obligations with all the partners, and lastly with a view to profit, therefore resulting in an incorporated limited partnership. A corporation, however, is defined as a separate legal entity from its owners that also has the rights and responsibilities that an individual or a partnership entity possesses. This means that corporations and their shareholders have the right to participate in the profits, but will not be held accountable for the company s debts and legal issues. The advantages of a partnership are generally about the financials of the structure, whereas the disadvantages tend to be more towards the liability of the partners involved. Comprehensively, the advantages consist of the formation of a partnership which can be relatively simple as it involves an express agreement in the form of a written agreement, usually acknowledged as a deed, or an oral agreement. Partnerships can also be formed with no express partnership agreement, via implication or conduct where the courts have held a partnership existed from the conduct of the parties. • 42. Moral Reasoning And Moral Judgments Over the last decades, research in moral psychology was dominated by the role of reasoning in making moral judgments (Kohlberg, 1969; Turiel, 1983), while a more recent research emphasizes the role of automatic emotional processes (Blair, 1995; Haidt, 2001; Pizzaro Salovey, 2002). Therefore, there has been a great tension to whether intuitions or reasons play critical role in making moral judgments. Haidt (2001) argues moral reasoning involves a conscious process, which means that the process is slower, effortful, deliberate, and controllable, while moral intuition process occurs unconsciously and thus, the process is faster, automatic and effortlessly. Thereby, Haidt (2001) contends reasoning still play a role in moral judgments, nevertheless, it is most likely as a post hoc attempt to justify one s intuition driven moral judgments. However, there are still some studies maintaining reasons as the master in making moral judgments (Kohlberg, Levine, Hewer, 1983; Kuhn, 1991). Kuhn (1991) describes people still follow their reasoning to make judgments even though it might contradicts with their initial intuitions. Greene, Sommerville, Nystrom, Darley, and Cohen (2001) propose dual process theory in order to consolidate these two approaches. They explain that both reasons and intuitions run in parallel or mutually competitive roles in making moral judgments. They further describe that intuitions or known as automatic emotional responses drive deontological judgments, while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ct. 530, 534 (U.S. 2014). A traffic stop for a suspected violation of law is a seizure of the occupants of the vehicle and therefore must be conducted in accordance with the Fourth Amendment. Id. at 536. Seizures based on mistakes of fact may be reasonable. Id. at 532. All parties agree that to justify this type of seizure, officers need only reasonable suspicion that is, a particularized and objective basis for suspecting the particular person stopped of breaking the law. To be reasonable is not to be perfect, and so the Fourth Amendment allows for some mistakes on the part of government officials, giving them fair leeway for enforcing the law in the community s protection. Reasonable suspicion arises from the combination of an officer s understanding of the facts and his understanding of the relevant law. Id. at 536. • 55. Analyse and Compare the Significance and Effectiveness of... It is a common view that the opening and ending of a novel is considered the most memorable and pertinent. Therefore, both authors, Ishiguro and Atwood, utilise openings and endings in their novels significantly. The opening of a novel plays a major part in establishing the tone of what is to come, with the ending leaving a lasting, final impression on the reader. The security of the first person narration in Never Let Me Go encourages the reader to engage with Kathy H in order to destroy our relationship at the end. This disillusionment serves to anger the reader and fuel our sense of disappointment. Never Let Me Go ends in uncertainty as Kathy drives away still looking for Hailsham yet for the reader there is no uncertainty; we know... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore the story of Offred is also questioned in the ending, the Historical Notes. In the beginning we are immediately plunged into a rather fragmented narrative, and a seemingly nightmarish world (in this case the dystopian setting is Gilead) where we know very little about what is going on or what is going to happen to Offred, the main character, sleeping in a gym guarded by aunts . The state of shock and bewilderment created leads to the rest of the opening being read in a state of suspense. The setting of a disused university gymnasium helps to achieve a sense of tension as it subtly reminds the reader of the ideas of nuclear fallout: Offred had slept in what had once been the gymnasium . Gymnasiums often feature in journalism as emergency centres; this location immediately suggests to the reader that something is wrong. The reader is confused as the narrative starts seemingly with a crisis though what that causes is not stated. The first chapter is in past tense and is used to establish her situation and explore how the gymnasium represents the past, with Offred wistfully longing for days of a bygone era. This is reinforced by the narrator reminiscing about high school dances that would have been held in the gym, girls felt skirted...later in mini skirts . It can be argued therefore, that the introduction of the novel serves as a means to persuade the reader to read on; missing vital information and an unfamiliar use of the setting achieve ...
