Structure, Sign and Play in the Discourse of the Human...
В‘Structure, Sign and Play in the Discourse of the Human Sciences (Derrida, 1978: 278 В–293)
may be read as the document of an event, although Derrida actually commences the essay with a
reservation regarding the word event , as it entails a meaning which it is precisely the function of
structural В– or structuralist В– thought to reduce or suspect (278). This, I infer, refers to the
emphasis within structuralist discourse on the synchronous analysis of systems and relations within
them, as opposed to a diachronic schemata occupied with uncovering genetic and teleological
content in the transformations of history. br br The event which the essay documents is that of a
definitive epistemological break with structuralist thought, of the... Show more content on

The guiding thread Derrida chooses is Levi Strauss opposition between nature and culture. (I am in
parts paraphrasing elements from page 282 В– 287). Derrida writes that Levi Strauss encounters a
scandal, which is the incest prohibition (283). The scandal is in that the prohibition is
simultaneously universal and thus natural, while also at the same time as a system of norms and
interdicts (283): it is cultural. The contradiction encountered by Levi Strauss is that the difference
established in the nature/culture binary opposition is erased or at least questioned. Due to this
erasure of difference the origin of this prohibition becomes unthinkable as the whole of
philosophical conceptualisationВ…is designedВ… (283/284) to leave the possibility of the
conceptualisation unthinkable, that is, the meaning of the construction of meaning, difference
having been erased, becomes itself impossible to bring to account. br br Levi Strauss, by way of
this realization, is forced to move from metaphysics to metacommentary (cf. Jameson, 1988)

Essay on Built To Last
To be successful in today s global marketplace, an organization must learn to adapt in order to stay
one step ahead of the competition. Mission statements, goal setting, and planning methods alone are
simply not enough anymore. Management fads have given way to time tested management
principles that distinguish good companies from truly great companies. Many organizations have
found success by utilizing a technique of balancing their core ideology, stimulating progress, and
seeking support by aligning company objectives, strategies, and policies. These companies are
what Jim Collins and Jerry Porras call visionary . Built to Last seeks to discover these timeless
managementprinciples that make a company truly visionary (Collins ... Show more content on

In this type of organization, the company itself is its own greatest product. Collins and Porras
conclude, The continual stream of great products and services from highly visionary companies
stems from them being outstanding organizations, not the other way around (Collins Porras,
2002). For example, to many people, William McKnight is not a household name. However, Mr.
McKnight was a top executive of the visionary 3M Corporation for over fifty years.
At the heart of every visionary company lie its core ideology, or those values and beliefs that
form the foundation of a company s existence. Seeing how the visionary companies evolved over
most of the last century let the authors observe that while the companies were continually
changing in response to the market and to their customers, they had an overall set of core values
to which they held constant. The comparison companies often lost ground when they changed
their focus, swayed by the desire to maximize shareholder wealth. This idea is illustrated by a
quote from David Packard, Profit is not the proper end and aim of management it is what makes
all of the proper ends and aims possible (Collins Porras). The visionary companies stood for
something more than profits, more than maximizing shareholder wealth. Core ideologies drive
visionary companies, not profit alone. This common balancing act among visionary companies is

Restorative Classroom Behavior
As a special education educator, I observed that children identified with having an Emotional
Behavior Disorder were likely to be disciplined harshly, and placed in more restrictive settings than
students in other disability categories. Additionally, in my mild to moderate setting program, I
observed that consequences for behavior infractions were more punitive in nature than restorative.
Teachers and students began to engage in power struggles and that had a negative impact on
classrooms and caused both students and teachers to withdraw from one another. 61 years after the
passing of Brown versus the Board of Educationruling that racial separation could not be equal,
Minnesota urban schooldistrict leaders have begun to embrace the inclusion

Colleges Should Be Required Acceptance For College Students
Max is a smart student, she played sports, joined lots of clubs, and volunteered in her local
community, but online was another story. Online Max would post racy pictures of herself and
comment rude things on other peoples pictures. She even cyberbullied. She was applying to
Howard University and her application looked perfect. 15 weeks into the admission process, she
got a letter saying, unfortunately she did not get in. The admission staff at Howard Universityknew
that they would have liked Max as a student there, but her digital footprint was terrible. This isn t
the only time that this has happened to students. Many students applying into collegeare being
kicked to the curb for the things that are being posted online. A perfect G.P.A doesn t mean a
guaranteed acceptance. Colleges should deny acceptance for things prospective students post online
because everything students are doing now is cumulative and colleges are looking for students to
help their campus not hurt their campus. Colleges should look up their prospective student online
because from the beginning to the end of high schooleverything will add up. College freshman

Disadvantages Of Phthalates
What is phthalates?
Phthalates are synthetic, man made chemical plasticizers that have been widely used since the
1950s to soften and increase the flexibility of plastic and vinyl that would otherwise be brittle and
crack when bent (BabyCenter. Expert Advice). The phthalates are widely selected to soften plastics
because of their strong performance, durability and stability (Eileen Conneely Brian Grossman,
2012).
Phthalates are used in hundreds of products in our homes, hospitals, cars and businesses. These
chemicals are usually found in plastic products such as children s toys, lubricants, infant care
products, chemical stabilizers in cosmetics, personal care products, and polyvinyl chloride tubing. It
is also used in many medical devices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In the world today, we are exposed to all kinds of germs and disease, these germs and disease can

cons. Recently there has been cause for concern for vaccinationchildren. The concern steams from
the belief if vaccines are safe today. There are also a great number of wonderful aspects to

How Does Piggy Build Order In Lord Of The Flies
Have you ever considered what would happen without anyone present to maintain order?
Throughout William Golding s The Lord of the Flies , Piggy is portrayed as the responsible one
on the island and helps develop a theme of order versus chaos through his organization on the
island, the bullying he faces and his death. Piggy s attempt to organize on the island helps
develop a theme of order versus chaos because having an organized society helps build order, and
Piggy attempted to re create that. An example is where it describes Piggy when Ralph first blows
the conch: Piggy moved among the crowd, asking names and frowning to remember them. (14).
The fact that asking people their names is the first job that Piggy does shows that he wants to...

He made the conch a symbol of order. The conch brings the boys together for meetings where
they can talk and have order. Piggy also makes it so you cannot speak unless you have the conch.
Piggy and the conch become very close, as if Piggy feels it as the only thing that has order, from
being humiliated by all the other boys. An example of this is after all the boys run up the
mountain to make a fire: Like kids! he said scornfully, Acting like a crowd of kids! Ralph looked
at him doubtfully and laid the conch on a tree trunk... What do they think they re going to do on
that mountain? He caressed the shell respectively, then stopped and looked up. Ralph! Hey!
Where are you going? (37). This shows that the conch is a symbol of order because Ralph puts it
down once order is lost and chaos begins when all the boys run up the mountain, but Piggy picks
it up and starts caressing it, mourning the loss of order. Finally, he stops caressing it when
Ralph decides to join the chaos and runs up the mountain after the other boys. Piggy is killed
when Roger pushes a rock on Piggy which shatters the conch and sends Piggy flying out to sea
to his death: The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a
thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. (200). This shows that with the death of Piggy,
the conch, a symbol of order on the island, also dies. Note how Golding describes it as ceased to
exist . It shows that order ceased to exist with the death of the conch and Piggy, the only two
things on the island that build or represent order, and how chaos ensues after they are gone. That
is why Piggy s death on the island helps develop a theme of order versus

The Target Corporation Is A Retail Company
The Target Corporation is a retail company situated throughout the United States. The founder,
George Draper Dayton formed the Dayton Dry Goods Company in 1902. Back in 1962, Target
launched their first store in Roseville, Minnesota. Ultimately in the year 2000, Dayton Hudson
store name was changed to Target. They have become the second largest retailer by sales and
revenue based on the United States stores (Cite 1 Wikipedia). Similar to Walmart, Target has
over a period of time received some criticism with community groups and the workers. Target has
prospered and sustained diversity with employees of disparate age, style, race, and more. Lions,
tigers and panthers are enjoyed in the Markell household, but unable to actually own one. For that
reason, a pack of dogs roams the house for the protecting and guarding the precious family. When
marketing brought in the official commissioner, Bullseye, the mascot for Target, This dog was
spotted in many marketing campaigns. Another central reason to shop at Target is the simple
layout of the store. The staff is snappier dressed and present patience with handling people.
Usually there are Starbucks inside this store, although they are a bit on the pricy side. Another
advantage is how Target believes in the community and touches many people s lives. Children are
our future and if you own a Target card, you could designate a school to make contributions toward.

The Death Of The Nazi Party

Twelve
Twelve. The age where boys around the world go to junior high for the first time. The age where
some boys have braces on their crooked teeth. The age where the voice of some boys becomes
deeper. Twelve for me means none of that. Twelve marks the year when a member of the Nazi party
could knock on our door and take me away. Twelve marks the age that I might never see my family
again.
Growing up with the frenzy of the war outside my bedroom window seized my childish qualities
and innocence away from me. I do not have the option to play in the street like the others. I
cannot casually walk in the Berlin plaza freely, as it seems that every five seconds a Nazi soldier
stops to question me. I have seen guiltless people shot to death on the sidewalk by ruthless soldiers
under Adolf Hitler s command. I have seen brainwashed boys that I used to go to school with do
the dirty work for Hitler. I have seen things that the little boys and girls in America have not even
seen in their nightmares.
Being only eleven years old, I cannot remember the day my older brother went with the soldiers.
They took him to a camp in order to train in order to be like them. I really only know what my
parents told me, and they don t know that much either. The whole situation still remains a
conundrum, and now it seems that my brother became like those before him, cold and lifeless.
It alarms me that in two

Hunger French Revolution
Hunger was pushed out of the tall houses, in the wretched clothing that hung upon poles and lines;
Hunger was patched into them with straw and rag and wood and paper; Hunger was repeated in
every fragment of the small modicum of firewood that the man sawed off; Hunger stared down
from the smokeless chimneys, and started up from the filthy street that had no offal, among its
refuse, of anything to eat. Hungerwas the inscription on the baker s shelves, written in every small
loaf of his scanty stock of bad bread; at the sausage shop, in every dead dog preparation that was
offered for sale (Dickens 38) One of the main causes of the French Revolution was the lack of food

It took four men, all four ablaze with gorgeous decoration, and the Chief of them unable to exist
with fewer than two gold watches in his pocket, emulative of the noble and chaste fashion set by
Monseigneur, to conduct the happy chocolate to Monseigneur s lips (Dickens 109). The nobles
in France during this time were hated immensely, they were exempt from taxes, had enough
food, clothes, money, and mansions while the third estate suffered. Many nobles were cruel and
spent their money lavishly on luxuries, treating the common people poorly, like the
Monseigneur who was so well hated and ended up being murdered. Then there were people who
were related to the nobles who had all the money, those people by blood were executed for doing
nothing to help the lower class while still technically being innocent ( French Revolution ).The
relatives of nobles like Charles Darnay were imprisoned and killed for being related to someone
with money. Though many were killed for their place in society the middle class, like Dr.
Manette were left alone usually because they had no quarrel with either side and actually gained
wealth during the French Revolution (Dickens). By the middle and end of the revolution many
people were killed and revolutionaries continued to kill people for petty crime because of the
harsh laws put in place by Robespierre (Encyclopedia Britannica). Those who had been greedy with
the staves of the cast, had acquired a tigerish smear about the mouth (Dickens 37).

The Importance Of Heteronormativity In School
Heteronormativity is a system of privilege that people enforces the beliefs what is normal in our
daily life. Gender and sexuality is a big part of the system of Heteronormativity. We had
established very strict expectations on each sex. For instance, the boys are dressed in blue, like toy
cars and are expected to be aggressive while the girls are dressed in pink, like toy dolls and are
expected to be sweet and gentle. When the child chose not to follow the expectations of each gender
roles, the child is highly likely to be bullied by their peers but they could be pressured by their
parents or the society to conform the expected gender.
The problems seem to be evidence the most when gender nonconforming students attends the
school and began to feel threatened because they chose not to follow the traditional gender roles.
The school struggled to come up with a situation that will benefit for everyone.
Traditionally, school is known for providing a safe space for all students, no what their gender
is. However, due to the increasing diversity in genders that is changing so fast that it made
difficult for everyone to keep up with them. 24% of students had faced bullying in the school at
least once (Toomey, McGuire Russell, 2012) The problem seem to be targeted toward the poor
approach of the school to establish a policies that protects the students who fall into LGBTQ*
categoties. It was discovered that to require for the school s policy to protect LGBTQ* students to

Prayer Definition Essay
How easy is it to become disheartened or weary about praying? If we re really honest with
ourselves, it s pretty easy at times, especially when our prayers seem to go unanswered. How
about distractions? How easy is it to allow distractions to interrupt your prayers? How frustrating
is it when those unexpected thoughts pop into your head while praying? On average, how long
can you pray before these distractions take effect? If you re fortunate, it may be several minutes
before things we forgot to do or need to do just pop into our mind. We catch ourselves and go
right back into our prayers only to be distracted again, at some later time. Do you think this happens
with every Christian? How about with Billy Graham, R. C. Sproul, Vernon McGee... Show more

Take a moment to think about ten of them. If I asked you, where in the world is the hardest place
to pray, where would you say? The hardest place would be here in the United States. Why?
Awesome question! As Americans, we ve become so caught up in a culture of always doing
something that it s hard to slow down and pray for any length of time. It feels uncomfortable or
feels like we re wasting valuable time. Our society has placed such a high premium on
accomplishments or on being productive that prayer sometimes goes against the grain of our
society. Do we see any accomplishments in prayer? Are we being productive when we pray?
Prayer is nothing more than talking to God, but how many of us feel like it s hopeless or
useless? We pray for healing only to continue in sickness. We ask for victory over sin only to
find defeat. What good does it do to pray? Another problem with the American culture is our
attention span. When we re not working, we re watching television, playing video games,
surfing the Internet(s) or on our smartphones. The next time you go to a restaurant or to the
movie theaters, look around to see how many people are on their phones. Being still and quiet is
not in the American culture. Sin is another thing which keeps us from praying as we ought to. In
William Shakespeare s Hamlet Act III, scene iii, Hamlet sneaks in to kill King Claudius, who
killed his own brother and Hamlet s father. At the end of the scene, Hamlet realized he cannot kill
Claudius and sneaks back out of the room and we hear Claudius say, My words fly up, my
thoughts remain low. Words without thought never to heaven go. Claudius tried to repent for
committing murder, but he couldn t. We see him kneeling in prayer, but he couldn t feel any sense
of comfort or mercy from God. There s a realization that because he had no intentions of confessing
to the crime or even changing his life, his words were empty

There are many types of ants in the world. They are not rare and they seem to be just about

My Family s Influence On My Life
The word community maintains an assortment of meanings for each of us. These meanings are
composed from various life experiences within our communities. To me, my communities include
my family, friends, schools, work, and the town I live in. My communities have had an influence
on who I have become as a person and continue to influence me on a daily basis. As I reflect back
on the past twenty years, the communitythat has had the most impact on me is my family. Now,
everyone has their own definition of family. So, when I say the word family, I am referring to
my mom and dad. These two people have had the most influence on my life. From the very
beginning, I began to shape the person I am based on the people my parents are. I can remember
spending many hours with my dad in his shop, watching him diagnose mechanical problems.
Then I would watch as he took apart a machine piece by piece, only to reassemble it exactly the
same way once the problem at hand was resolved. As the years progressed, I became closer with
my mom, spending the majority of my time with her. I would help her around the house with
everyday chores. I can remember the joy I experienced when I was able to go to work with mom.
I would watch in awe at the number of tasks my mother was responsible for at one time. How she
would swiftly move from one task to another, handling the many interruptions, and balancing the
numerous new tasks placed on her desk each day. Spending much of my time with

Natural Hair Vs Relaxed Hair

Natural hair is stealing the show and taking over with the African American population. Having
big natural curls has been the most popular style in the last couple years. But, not everyone wants
to be natural nor do they have to be because relaxed hair is still winning votes as well. Before the

With relaxers you need a lot of grooming and touch ups are required every 6wks 3month for new

are store box relaxers that you can buy in the store but they aren t as effective as salon products.
Maintaining relaxed black hair requires deep conditioning weekly and moisturizing on a daily
basis, if not the hair will develop excessive dryness and experience hair breakage and excessive
shedding. (Pugh, 2016) On the plus side you get to see your hair length and don t have to play
hide and go seek on a daily basis. Even though natural hair is making a stamp on society, relaxed
hair will always be accepted in the work place and sometimes looks more professional and more

characteristics would take away from an individual. Do you ever look in the mirror and wonder
to yourself, Am I good enough for everyone? Are my arms too fat? Does my face has too much
acne? Do my clothes show my muffin top? Well, you aren t alone. Many women struggle with body

Mayan Religion Essay
The Mayan practiced a religion of many gods. Mayan religion was the subject of much
discussion leading up to December 21st, 2012. The Mayan practiced Roman Catholicism. Mayan
rulers were seen as intermediaries between the gods and Mayan people. Heaven was reserved for
those who had been killed or died at birth. To the Mayan science and religion were the same.
Mathematics and astronomy were related to religious rituals. The Mayan believed in the cyclical
nature of time. The Mayan religion was characterized by the worship of the nature god. There are
four Mayan main gods Kukulcan (Quetzalcoatl), Bolon Tzacab, Chac, and Itzamna. The Mayan

The Mayans had an absolute monarchy for their gods. Lord Pacal was their most famous ruler.
He became a king when he was only six. Lord Pacal was twelve when he got legally throned. He

items were commercialized by the Mayans. Early Mayan city states tended to produce all of
their own substance items. Substance items were used for food, clothing, tools, basic pottery,
and salt. Prestige items were commercialized goods by the Mayan also. Prestige items are like
jade, gold, copper, ritual items, and highly decorated pottery. The Mayan had advanced trade
systems consisting of a robust market for a range of goods and materials and short, medium,
and long trade routes. The Mayan had lots to do in their daily life. The Mayan considered big
noses, flat foreheads, and crossed eyes beautiful features. They would use makeup to try and
make their noses look bigger. Men and women wore their hair long. Once men and women got
married they got tattoos. The clothing they wore depended on the region they lived in and their
social status. They also wore feather headdresses. The wealthy wore colorful clothing made by
animal skin and fancy jewelry. To the Mayan the most interesting food was chocolate from the

Human Services And Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is the act or practice of illegally transporting people from one country or area to
another, typically for the purposes of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation, however, it is
continuing to grow in the united states and is happening everywhere not just in other countries. In
this essay, I want to explain how human traffickingis involved in human services and how we can
help people get help after they have been a victimof human trafficking. Victims can be men or
women, or children, foreign nationals or U.S. citizens, the attacker normally draws in the victim
with a stable job, education, or relationships.
In most cases, social services would be involved in helping the victim either cope or get medical
attention.

The Two Main Causes Of World War One
World War one was one of the most devestating wars in the world. Over 8.5 million people died as
a result of the war. There were four major and underlying causes of the war. Those causes were
militarism, alliences, imperialism, and nationalism. Germany, Russia, Austria Hungary, the U.S,
Ottoman Empire, Britain, and France all fought in WWI. Militarism and alliences, were the two
main causes of the war.
Militarism is the first main cause of the war. Every country involved in the war had a standing
army, they were all under the impression that the war would be short. The war was ignited by the
assasination of archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. Austria was the first to declare war. Then
Germany declared war on Russia on the side of Austria Hungary.

Long Distance Relationship And How To Make It Work Essay
Long Distance Relationship and How To Make It Work
Dear Love Lady,
I have a love problem and I don t know what to do. I am a freshman in college and so is my
boyfriend. We have been together since our senior year in high school, and we are very much in
love. But, since we ve been at college, we have developed a problem. We don t see each other from
month to month. You see, we go to colleges in completely different states. We have always lived
on the same street, but now we are so far apart. I don t even know if it will work, or better yet how
to make it work. Any advice? Sad and In Love, Atlanta, GA

I would pretend that it was my boyfriend doing it and then I would think of how I would feel if he
did it. If you would get upset about it, than 10 times out of 10 so would he.
There has to be trust in every important relationship, a relationship won t last if there are doubts on
either end. Always trust that your boyfriend is being honest with you and always be honest with him.
The next thing a long distance relationship needs is communication.
Good communication is a MUST! You and your boyfriend have to have open lines of
communication. If something is bothering one of you, you must tell the other how you are
feeling. If you don t be open the other will never know what you are thinking or if there is a
problem. Unless of course you can read minds.
Just kidding! There shouldn t be secrets kept from one another and if there are open communication
lines, it will avoid any types of problems.
Another aspect of communication that is important is expressing your feelings. If you are missing
your boyfriend a lot one day, tell him. It will make him feel good to know that you are thinking of
him and need him. By expressing your feelings, it will keep the relationship open and honest. And
also add a little excitement for the next time you get to see each

Criminal Law And Its Effect On Society
Hello Geffrey,
You asked this learner to elaborate more on which laws this learner believe are considered
criminal by the larger society, but may be considered acceptable by the groups lacking wealth ?
(Martin, 2016. Para. 1). Well, this learner will try to address this question.
As we know criminal laws were created for us as a society to follow, maintain, and be punished if
the law is broken. Now, that sounds really good, but as a society this is not true, because these laws
are look good on paper, and are supposed to be equal to everyone (wealthy or poor), but when we
take a closer look it is no. Why, well if you are wealthy enough it can give you a free pass or what
this learner likes to call a free get out of jail, but if you are not wealthy, then you are remanded and
will be put in jail/prison ASAP until they find you a public defender. Do you know how long that
can take? Well in Augusta, GA it can be anywhere from a month up to four if you are lucky (from
my personal perspective and issues).
Now, take a look at this information or example of the wealthy that was discovered by a
newspaper: for over a decade suburban jails in Southern California have been renting upscale
cells to affluent people convicted of crimes in Los Angeles County, these pay to stay programs,
also called self pay jails, cost wealthy prisoners between $45 and $175 a day and include such
amenities as iPods, cell phones, computers, private cells and work release programs. Some even let

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Nao Silver
INTRODUCTION:
Silver is bright and shining metal known to mankind from ancient times. From ancient time s
human civilization are using silver for jewelleries, utensils, weapons, coin, medicine, water
containing tanks. From early days silver is assisting the immune system when it was plentiful
available in dissolved metallic form in water[1]. In periodic table it is placed at 47th position near
to heavy metal.it is a transition metal. It has atomic weight 107.8. Silver has good metallic property
like malleability, ductility, thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity [2]. Silver exhibit the
excellent anti microbial property. After the development of nanotechnology we are using silver
extensively in various area. Now a day we use silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) instead of metallic
silver for many of daily uses. It is seen that AgNPs is highest degree of commercialisation among
all the Nanoparticles in medical and health sector. There are numerous uses where AgNPs are used
like in cloths, medicines, disinfectants, tiles, surgical equipment, and silver coated bone prosthesis.
Nao silver is also used in room spray, paints and laundry detergents. Many manufacture using nano

Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura Research Paper
Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a rare disease that people would never know existed
unless affected by it. The disease is characterized by individuals having extremely low platelets
levels. Platelets are created from megakaryocytes that are located within the bone marrow. The
megakaryocytes break off pieces small enough to leave the bone marrow and join the other blood
cells circulating in the body. Platelets are responsible for clotting the blood when an injury
occurs. They do this by agglutinating, or sticking to themselves at the site of the injury. Platelets
are responsible for activating other clotting factors found in the blood. If someone does not have
adequate platelets, such as individuals affected byITP, they may not be able to clot their blood.
For a simple scratch it is not too worrisome, but if the individual falls or hits their head they can
experience internal bleeding that can be fatal if not treated. Two symptoms are hallmarks for ITP.
They include petichiae, micro hemorrhaging of vessels that typically occurs on the lower
extremities and purpura, excessive bruising of the skin from minor bumps and cuts. Through
history ITP has not only... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with chronic ITP into himself so that the effects on the bone marrow could be studied (Idiopathic,

ITP was related to the platelets themselves. The Harrington Hollingsworth experiment had given the
disease an origin, the platelets themselves. The name of the disease was changed to what it is now
considered, immune thrombocytopenic

First Impressions Of African Americans
First Impressions It is amazing how a first impression can affect something. It can determine how
an entire culture is perceived. The first impression is the birthplace of a stereotype. A reference
point based on a minority giving off the impression that the entirety is the same. These ideas are a
plague to the human race that goes uninterrupted, and here is no greater victim of succumbing to
impressionable stereotypes than the youth. The first impression of the African people resulted in
their image suffering. Africa has been given the stereotype that everyone is primitive and living
in poverty. This is only a very small population but this idea of them being less fortunate has more
traction to the human mind. People enjoy pitying the less fortunate and let s them feel like they
are a good person. This seems childish and self centered, but it is a major drive in the human
psyche to be this way. The idea that Africa is full of mostly poverty is simply not true. That s only
a very minute amount of the population. There is much more... Show more content on

During the age of learning and growing into society is the prime time for stereotypes to be set
into motion. When a parent is raising their child, they are not raising a child. They are raising the
adult that they are going to become. Unfortunately this includes raising an adult whose mind is full
of preconceived notions and stereotypes. If humans as a species want to get past stereotyping then
they need to start by training the youth, because the youth is the future of the human race.
Unfortunately, big business and government officials use stereotypes as propaganda to push a
product or idea to the people. It is frightening how well it works, however. People rely on
government for the truth because they are the major figures that are looked up to for answers.
Government and big business know this and use it to their advantage for profit or otherwise suit

My Love Of My Life
I started laughing like I d never laugh again in my life. A week ago, I sent a recording of my
voice for the audition for the Christmas duet and now I got the position for it. And my partner is
James Brown! He is the most charming person I could ever think of. His chocolate colored eyes
always sparkled, and his low manly voice would always melt my insides into a puddle of goo.
Finally, I have a chance to work with him; a chance to see my love of my life. The next day, I
went to the music department at my school with light, bouncy steps. When I went in the room
the people inside were staring at me, baffled. People whispered, as they gave me quick looks.
Some gave me cold stares. I sat on the nearest chair. The chair that was a little too small groaned
under my weight. The people looked at empty spaces, not knowing where to look at. Finally,
James came to break the uncomfortable silence. During break time I rushed to the bathroom.
When I came back, I could hear the people talking. What do we do with her? We can t put her on
stage, we ll be a laughing stock, said one. Why don t we put her in the backstage to sing and
have another prettier girl to lip sync on stage? It s the best way out of this, suggested another. But
who s going to tell her this? There was no answer. I couldn t listen anymore. I understood, they
couldn t put me on stage because of my appearance. There were hardly any clothes that fit me, my

Further support for the larval theory is that tiger salamander larvae are extremely hardy. Abe has
amazing resilience to the environment and injury. Abe is shown to have suffered deep
lacerations to the chest and possible infection from exposure to sewer water. Abe was placed in
a recovery chamber, with no medicine or treatment administered, only his vitals were monitored.
After several days in a deep sleep he was fully recovered with no visible scaring. This time frame
is identical to a salamander recovering from a limb amputation. Within 6 12 hours, a plasma clot
forms and epidermal cells from the amputation site migrate to the wound surface. During the next 4
days, proteases degrade the extracellular matrices of the tissues beneath the wound epidermis. The
degradation process produces single cells that undergo dramatic dedifferentiation: reverting back to
undifferentiated cells. To prevent differentiation of the newly formed crop of undifferentiated
cells, genes expressed in differentiated tissue are downregulated, such as mrf4 and myf5 in muscle
cells. Proliferative genes such as mslx are upregulated to help re create the progress zone
mesenchyme of the embryonic limb. Once enough cells have proliferated, they dedifferentiate to

Morning After Pill
There is a pill becoming readily available that would aid in reducing the amount of unwanted
pregnancies. It is the morning after pill as it is being called. This pill can be used during the first
three days after unprotected sexual intercourse to prevent the fertilization of an egg or the
attachment of a fertilized egg to a woman s uterus. The question is not necessarily in the ethical
issue of the pill itself. The problem or question lies in the issue of the pill being sold with or
without a prescription. The measure would allow girls and women to obtain this medication,
without a physician s visit or prescription and without parental consent regardless of the patient s

Not only for the individuals trying to purchase the pill but also for pharmacists. There is a
spillover effect to also consider; how the medication will be sold. Will it be put next to over the

still must hand then over even though no do prescription is required? These are questions that need
to be considered before making a decision.
In Summary, the pill remedies the chance of ineffectiveness of methods of contraception like birth
control and condoms without invasive surgery. The pill has the potential to reduce the number of
surgical abortions and undesired pregnancies in the United States considerably, especially if it is
provided over the counter. The pill is radically more effective the sooner one takes it after

prescription only, is that it would give a larger number of women faster and more access to it.

Cellular Respiration Experiment
roduction
This experiment tested the hypothesis that there is no difference between before exercise and
after exercise in terms of cellular respiration rates. The purpose of this experiment is to compare
the rates of cellular respiration before and after vigorous exercise. During cellular respiration,
glucose is broken down into CO2 (carbon dioxide). As CO2 (carbon dioxide) is bubbled through
water, H2CO3 (carbonic acid) is formed. Because H2CO3 (carbonic acid) is a weak acid and
dissociates in water, it forms HCO3 and H+ ions. As a basic solution is partially neutralized by an
acid, phenolphthalein turns clear. Measuring the relative rates of the production of carbon dioxide
before and after exercise can help us compare the rates of cellular respiration. We can estimate the
rates of cellular respiration by measuring how much time it takes for the phenolphthalein to change
color because the carbon dioxide we exhale would react with the water in the solution to form
carbonic acid. Then the carbonic acid would neutralize the NaOH in the solution and would turn
colorless when enough acid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

guilty but doesn t want everybody to know. If people knew that he confessed not only would he
make himself look bad but he would also make his friends look bad because he is confessing lies
about them and ruin both theirs and his reputation. Before John confessed he said to his wife I have

Essay On Corruption And Corruption In Corrections
As someone that worked in corrections for 16 years, I have seen corruption events at both the state
level and at the local county level in correctional settings. I there are two common forms of
corruptions that I have seen correctional officers walked out and arrested for having sexual
relations with offenders or bringing in contraband to offenders. These unethical actions by
correctional staff are ones that break the trust with not only the offenders and staff but also the
community that the staff has sworn by oath to serve and protect. We also see that an element of
corruption and unethical actions have and do take place in the criminal justicearea of policeofficers
at the city, county, and state levels across the country (Andonova, 2017). When we as members of
the American society see these corruptions in the law enforcement agencies, it is not only a break
in the trust that we give them but also most times a violation of state and federal laws. As a
community, we must expect that those that work in law enforcement are going to make mistakes,
we know that no one is perfect. But when we see that criminal statutes have been broken by a
member of the law enforcement community we must ask ourselves just where the line between
mistake and corruption is drawn, and the ethical understanding between the two (Andonova, 2017).
The connection between misconduct in corrections and in policing leave a lot of questions to be
answered. Such as, are all law enforcement officers

My Last Duchess Diction
My Last Duchess in itself is a Victorian reflection on Renaissance Italy. It explores societal schemas
which permeated both aristocratic societies extensively, such as societal entitlement and a
narcissistic and oppressive attitude. Browning takes this to a deeper level by exploring these
temperaments in the speaker; the Dukeof Ferrara. This is achieved through the use of structure and
syntax to provide insight into the psyche of the speaker by insinuating and presenting the real
ideology of the speaker through the development of a societal interaction. Browning employs
thematic progression lead by the speaker delivered through a dramatic monologue, forced sentences
of genuine nature, and the use of vivid imagery and syntax to create such... Show more content on

One can imagine the messenger standing up and bolting towards the stairs, to warn his master of
the dark intentions of the Duke, only to be abruptly halted. This is a clear example of his
controlling nature and provides insight into the oppressive nature of the Duke. The Duke is so
narcissistic and oppressive the he feels entitled to express his darkest attributes and still maintain
his social and political status through subtle yet blunt manipulation. This is reflected in the
structure of the poem through the use of a dramatic monologue; where the Duke commands the
conversion and guides it where he wants to go, forcing his thoughts onto the audience and
drawing focus only to what he desires. This mentality of oppression is further reflected in the
diction and syntax that is used; where the Duke uses phrases to control the individual in a
seemingly polite way. This view is shared by Joshua Adler in his article Structure and Meaning in
Browning s My Last Duchess .
Throughout the interview the Duke is, in effect, manipulating his guest as if he were a puppet sit
down, stand up, look at this, notice that and his manner is indicative of his whole attitude to life,
for in the main body of the monologue the same habits are revealed as in the double frame. The
structure of the poem thus corresponds perfectly to its content: just as the monologue is cramped in
and the listener held down, so had the Duke attempted to confine his wife within the bounds
imposed by his inflexible will. (Adler

В‘Structure, Sign and Play in the Discourse of the Human Sciences (Derrida, 1978: 278 В–293) may be read as the document of an event, although Derrida actually commences the essay with a reservation regarding the word event , as it entails a meaning which it is precisely the function of structural В– or structuralist В– thought to reduce or suspect (278). This, I infer, refers to the emphasis within structuralist discourse on the synchronous analysis of systems and relations within them, as opposed to a diachronic schemata occupied with uncovering genetic and teleological content in the transformations of history. br br The event which the essay documents is that of a definitive epistemological break with structuralist thought, of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The guiding thread Derrida chooses is Levi Strauss opposition between nature and culture. (I am in parts paraphrasing elements from page 282 В– 287). Derrida writes that Levi Strauss encounters a scandal, which is the incest prohibition (283). The scandal is in that the prohibition is simultaneously universal and thus natural, while also at the same time as a system of norms and interdicts (283): it is cultural. The contradiction encountered by Levi Strauss is that the difference established in the nature/culture binary opposition is erased or at least questioned. Due to this erasure of difference the origin of this prohibition becomes unthinkable as the whole of philosophical conceptualisationВ…is designedВ… (283/284) to leave the possibility of the conceptualisation unthinkable, that is, the meaning of the construction of meaning, difference having been erased, becomes itself impossible to bring to account. br br Levi Strauss, by way of this realization, is forced to move from metaphysics to metacommentary (cf. Jameson, 1988) because even though he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Built To Last To be successful in today s global marketplace, an organization must learn to adapt in order to stay one step ahead of the competition. Mission statements, goal setting, and planning methods alone are simply not enough anymore. Management fads have given way to time tested management principles that distinguish good companies from truly great companies. Many organizations have found success by utilizing a technique of balancing their core ideology, stimulating progress, and seeking support by aligning company objectives, strategies, and policies. These companies are what Jim Collins and Jerry Porras call visionary . Built to Last seeks to discover these timeless managementprinciples that make a company truly visionary (Collins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this type of organization, the company itself is its own greatest product. Collins and Porras conclude, The continual stream of great products and services from highly visionary companies stems from them being outstanding organizations, not the other way around (Collins Porras, 2002). For example, to many people, William McKnight is not a household name. However, Mr. McKnight was a top executive of the visionary 3M Corporation for over fifty years. At the heart of every visionary company lie its core ideology, or those values and beliefs that form the foundation of a company s existence. Seeing how the visionary companies evolved over most of the last century let the authors observe that while the companies were continually changing in response to the market and to their customers, they had an overall set of core values to which they held constant. The comparison companies often lost ground when they changed their focus, swayed by the desire to maximize shareholder wealth. This idea is illustrated by a quote from David Packard, Profit is not the proper end and aim of management it is what makes all of the proper ends and aims possible (Collins Porras). The visionary companies stood for something more than profits, more than maximizing shareholder wealth. Core ideologies drive visionary companies, not profit alone. This common balancing act among visionary companies is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Teachers and students began to engage in power struggles and that had a negative impact on classrooms and caused both students and teachers to withdraw from one another. 61 years after the passing of Brown versus the Board of Educationruling that racial separation could not be equal, Minnesota urban schooldistrict leaders have begun to embrace the inclusion ... Colleges Should Be Required Acceptance For College Students Max is a smart student, she played sports, joined lots of clubs, and volunteered in her local community, but online was another story. Online Max would post racy pictures of herself and comment rude things on other peoples pictures. She even cyberbullied. She was applying to Howard University and her application looked perfect. 15 weeks into the admission process, she got a letter saying, unfortunately she did not get in. The admission staff at Howard Universityknew that they would have liked Max as a student there, but her digital footprint was terrible. This isn t the only time that this has happened to students. Many students applying into collegeare being kicked to the curb for the things that are being posted online. A perfect G.P.A doesn t mean a guaranteed acceptance. • 9. How Does Piggy Build Order In Lord Of The Flies Have you ever considered what would happen without anyone present to maintain order? Throughout William Golding s The Lord of the Flies , Piggy is portrayed as the responsible one on the island and helps develop a theme of order versus chaos through his organization on the island, the bullying he faces and his death. Piggy s attempt to organize on the island helps develop a theme of order versus chaos because having an organized society helps build order, and Piggy attempted to re create that. An example is where it describes Piggy when Ralph first blows the conch: Piggy moved among the crowd, asking names and frowning to remember them. (14). The fact that asking people their names is the first job that Piggy does shows that he wants to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He made the conch a symbol of order. The conch brings the boys together for meetings where they can talk and have order. Piggy also makes it so you cannot speak unless you have the conch. Piggy and the conch become very close, as if Piggy feels it as the only thing that has order, from being humiliated by all the other boys. An example of this is after all the boys run up the mountain to make a fire: Like kids! he said scornfully, Acting like a crowd of kids! Ralph looked at him doubtfully and laid the conch on a tree trunk... What do they think they re going to do on that mountain? He caressed the shell respectively, then stopped and looked up. Ralph! Hey! Where are you going? (37). This shows that the conch is a symbol of order because Ralph puts it down once order is lost and chaos begins when all the boys run up the mountain, but Piggy picks it up and starts caressing it, mourning the loss of order. Finally, he stops caressing it when Ralph decides to join the chaos and runs up the mountain after the other boys. Piggy is killed when Roger pushes a rock on Piggy which shatters the conch and sends Piggy flying out to sea to his death: The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. (200). This shows that with the death of Piggy, the conch, a symbol of order on the island, also dies. Note how Golding describes it as ceased to exist . It shows that order ceased to exist with the death of the conch and Piggy, the only two things on the island that build or represent order, and how chaos ensues after they are gone. That is why Piggy s death on the island helps develop a theme of order versus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The founder, George Draper Dayton formed the Dayton Dry Goods Company in 1902. Back in 1962, Target launched their first store in Roseville, Minnesota. Ultimately in the year 2000, Dayton Hudson store name was changed to Target. They have become the second largest retailer by sales and revenue based on the United States stores (Cite 1 Wikipedia). Similar to Walmart, Target has over a period of time received some criticism with community groups and the workers. Target has prospered and sustained diversity with employees of disparate age, style, race, and more. Lions, tigers and panthers are enjoyed in the Markell household, but unable to actually own one. For that reason, a pack of dogs roams the house for the protecting and guarding the precious family. When marketing brought in the official commissioner, Bullseye, the mascot for Target, This dog was spotted in many marketing campaigns. Another central reason to shop at Target is the simple layout of the store. The staff is snappier dressed and present patience with handling people. Usually there are Starbucks inside this store, although they are a bit on the pricy side. Another advantage is how Target believes in the community and touches many people s lives. • 11. The Death Of The Nazi Party Lauren Pagel Mrs. Harmon Honors English Period 7 9 Sept. 2016 Word Count: 1,638 Twelve Twelve. The age where boys around the world go to junior high for the first time. The age where some boys have braces on their crooked teeth. The age where the voice of some boys becomes deeper. Twelve for me means none of that. Twelve marks the year when a member of the Nazi party could knock on our door and take me away. Twelve marks the age that I might never see my family again. Growing up with the frenzy of the war outside my bedroom window seized my childish qualities and innocence away from me. I do not have the option to play in the street like the others. I cannot casually walk in the Berlin plaza freely, as it seems that every five seconds a Nazi soldier stops to question me. I have seen guiltless people shot to death on the sidewalk by ruthless soldiers under Adolf Hitler s command. I have seen brainwashed boys that I used to go to school with do the dirty work for Hitler. I have seen things that the little boys and girls in America have not even seen in their nightmares. Being only eleven years old, I cannot remember the day my older brother went with the soldiers. They took him to a camp in order to train in order to be like them. Hungerwas the inscription on the baker s shelves, written in every small loaf of his scanty stock of bad bread; at the sausage shop, in every dead dog preparation that was offered for sale (Dickens 38) One of the main causes of the French Revolution was the lack of food and the high cost of it. The nobles in France during this time were hated immensely, they were exempt from taxes, had enough food, clothes, money, and mansions while the third estate suffered. Many nobles were cruel and spent their money lavishly on luxuries, treating the common people poorly, like the Monseigneur who was so well hated and ended up being murdered. Then there were people who were related to the nobles who had all the money, those people by blood were executed for doing nothing to help the lower class while still technically being innocent ( French Revolution ).The relatives of nobles like Charles Darnay were imprisoned and killed for being related to someone with money. • 13. The Importance Of Heteronormativity In School Heteronormativity is a system of privilege that people enforces the beliefs what is normal in our daily life. Gender and sexuality is a big part of the system of Heteronormativity. We had established very strict expectations on each sex. For instance, the boys are dressed in blue, like toy cars and are expected to be aggressive while the girls are dressed in pink, like toy dolls and are expected to be sweet and gentle. When the child chose not to follow the expectations of each gender roles, the child is highly likely to be bullied by their peers but they could be pressured by their parents or the society to conform the expected gender. The problems seem to be evidence the most when gender nonconforming students attends the school and began to feel threatened because they chose not to follow the traditional gender roles. The school struggled to come up with a situation that will benefit for everyone. Traditionally, school is known for providing a safe space for all students, no what their gender is. However, due to the increasing diversity in genders that is changing so fast that it made difficult for everyone to keep up with them. 24% of students had faced bullying in the school at least once (Toomey, McGuire Russell, 2012) The problem seem to be targeted toward the poor approach of the school to establish a policies that protects the students who fall into LGBTQ* categoties. • 14. Prayer Definition Essay How easy is it to become disheartened or weary about praying? If we re really honest with ourselves, it s pretty easy at times, especially when our prayers seem to go unanswered. How about distractions? How easy is it to allow distractions to interrupt your prayers? How frustrating is it when those unexpected thoughts pop into your head while praying? On average, how long can you pray before these distractions take effect? If you re fortunate, it may be several minutes before things we forgot to do or need to do just pop into our mind. We catch ourselves and go right back into our prayers only to be distracted again, at some later time. Do you think this happens with every Christian? How about with Billy Graham, R. C. Sproul, Vernon McGee... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Take a moment to think about ten of them. If I asked you, where in the world is the hardest place to pray, where would you say? The hardest place would be here in the United States. Why? Awesome question! As Americans, we ve become so caught up in a culture of always doing something that it s hard to slow down and pray for any length of time. It feels uncomfortable or feels like we re wasting valuable time. Our society has placed such a high premium on accomplishments or on being productive that prayer sometimes goes against the grain of our society. Do we see any accomplishments in prayer? Are we being productive when we pray? Prayer is nothing more than talking to God, but how many of us feel like it s hopeless or useless? We pray for healing only to continue in sickness. We ask for victory over sin only to find defeat. What good does it do to pray? Another problem with the American culture is our attention span. When we re not working, we re watching television, playing video games, surfing the Internet(s) or on our smartphones. The next time you go to a restaurant or to the movie theaters, look around to see how many people are on their phones. Being still and quiet is not in the American culture. Sin is another thing which keeps us from praying as we ought to. In William Shakespeare s Hamlet Act III, scene iii, Hamlet sneaks in to kill King Claudius, who killed his own brother and Hamlet s father. At the end of the scene, Hamlet realized he cannot kill Claudius and sneaks back out of the room and we hear Claudius say, My words fly up, my thoughts remain low. Words without thought never to heaven go. Claudius tried to repent for committing murder, but he couldn t. We see him kneeling in prayer, but he couldn t feel any sense of comfort or mercy from God. • 16. My Family s Influence On My Life The word community maintains an assortment of meanings for each of us. These meanings are composed from various life experiences within our communities. To me, my communities include my family, friends, schools, work, and the town I live in. My communities have had an influence on who I have become as a person and continue to influence me on a daily basis. As I reflect back on the past twenty years, the communitythat has had the most impact on me is my family. Now, everyone has their own definition of family. So, when I say the word family, I am referring to my mom and dad. These two people have had the most influence on my life. From the very beginning, I began to shape the person I am based on the people my parents are. I can remember spending many hours with my dad in his shop, watching him diagnose mechanical problems. Then I would watch as he took apart a machine piece by piece, only to reassemble it exactly the same way once the problem at hand was resolved. As the years progressed, I became closer with my mom, spending the majority of my time with her. I would help her around the house with everyday chores. I can remember the joy I experienced when I was able to go to work with mom. I would watch in awe at the number of tasks my mother was responsible for at one time. • 28. Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura Research Paper Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a rare disease that people would never know existed unless affected by it. The disease is characterized by individuals having extremely low platelets levels. Platelets are created from megakaryocytes that are located within the bone marrow. The megakaryocytes break off pieces small enough to leave the bone marrow and join the other blood cells circulating in the body. Platelets are responsible for clotting the blood when an injury occurs. They do this by agglutinating, or sticking to themselves at the site of the injury. Platelets are responsible for activating other clotting factors found in the blood. If someone does not have adequate platelets, such as individuals affected byITP, they may not be able to clot their blood. For a simple scratch it is not too worrisome, but if the individual falls or hits their head they can experience internal bleeding that can be fatal if not treated. Two symptoms are hallmarks for ITP. They include petichiae, micro hemorrhaging of vessels that typically occurs on the lower extremities and purpura, excessive bruising of the skin from minor bumps and cuts. • 37. Cellular Respiration Experiment roduction This experiment tested the hypothesis that there is no difference between before exercise and after exercise in terms of cellular respiration rates. The purpose of this experiment is to compare the rates of cellular respiration before and after vigorous exercise. During cellular respiration, glucose is broken down into CO2 (carbon dioxide). As CO2 (carbon dioxide) is bubbled through water, H2CO3 (carbonic acid) is formed. Because H2CO3 (carbonic acid) is a weak acid and dissociates in water, it forms HCO3 and H+ ions. As a basic solution is partially neutralized by an acid, phenolphthalein turns clear. Measuring the relative rates of the production of carbon dioxide before and after exercise can help us compare the rates of cellular respiration. We can estimate the rates of cellular respiration by measuring how much time it takes for the phenolphthalein to change color because the carbon dioxide we exhale would react with the water in the solution to form carbonic acid. • 40. Essay On Corruption And Corruption In Corrections As someone that worked in corrections for 16 years, I have seen corruption events at both the state level and at the local county level in correctional settings. I there are two common forms of corruptions that I have seen correctional officers walked out and arrested for having sexual relations with offenders or bringing in contraband to offenders. These unethical actions by correctional staff are ones that break the trust with not only the offenders and staff but also the community that the staff has sworn by oath to serve and protect. We also see that an element of corruption and unethical actions have and do take place in the criminal justicearea of policeofficers at the city, county, and state levels across the country (Andonova, 2017). When we as members of the American society see these corruptions in the law enforcement agencies, it is not only a break in the trust that we give them but also most times a violation of state and federal laws. As a community, we must expect that those that work in law enforcement are going to make mistakes, we know that no one is perfect. But when we see that criminal statutes have been broken by a member of the law enforcement community we must ask ourselves just where the line between mistake and corruption is drawn, and the ethical understanding between the two (Andonova, 2017). The connection between misconduct in corrections and in policing leave a lot of questions to be answered. Such as, are all law enforcement officers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. My Last Duchess Diction My Last Duchess in itself is a Victorian reflection on Renaissance Italy. It explores societal schemas which permeated both aristocratic societies extensively, such as societal entitlement and a narcissistic and oppressive attitude. Browning takes this to a deeper level by exploring these temperaments in the speaker; the Dukeof Ferrara. This is achieved through the use of structure and syntax to provide insight into the psyche of the speaker by insinuating and presenting the real ideology of the speaker through the development of a societal interaction. Browning employs thematic progression lead by the speaker delivered through a dramatic monologue, forced sentences of genuine nature, and the use of vivid imagery and syntax to create such... This is a clear example of his controlling nature and provides insight into the oppressive nature of the Duke. The Duke is so narcissistic and oppressive the he feels entitled to express his darkest attributes and still maintain his social and political status through subtle yet blunt manipulation. This is reflected in the structure of the poem through the use of a dramatic monologue; where the Duke commands the conversion and guides it where he wants to go, forcing his thoughts onto the audience and drawing focus only to what he desires. This mentality of oppression is further reflected in the diction and syntax that is used; where the Duke uses phrases to control the individual in a seemingly polite way. This view is shared by Joshua Adler in his article Structure and Meaning in Browning s My Last Duchess . Throughout the interview the Duke is, in effect, manipulating his guest as if he were a puppet sit down, stand up, look at this, notice that and his manner is indicative of his whole attitude to life, for in the main body of the monologue the same habits are revealed as in the double frame. The structure of the poem thus corresponds perfectly to its content: just as the monologue is cramped in and the listener held down, so had the Duke attempted to confine his wife within the bounds imposed by his inflexible will.
