Open Education as Disruption: Lessons for Open and Distance Learning from Ope...Ronald Macintyre
This paper reflects on what Open and Distance Learning providers might learn from the Open Educational Resources/Practices (OER/OEP) and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). It is based on experiences working on OER and OEP first at the OU in Scotland (OUiS) and more recently under the auspices of the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) funded Open Educational Practices Scotland (OEPS) programme hosted by OUiS. The paper by exploring the disruptive potential of MOOCs and OER within Higher Education. While it acknowledges lessons for HE it argues the focus on access and scale has obscured other lessons ODL might learn from opening up educational practices. Much of our work has centred on OEP and partnership with organisations outside the formal education sector. As such it has taken the possibilities offered by openness as an invitation to look at the relationship between the formal and the informal. The paper traces OEPS journey as it explores less apparent but no less important lessons around designing and creating open content through partnership in a way that is cost effective and context relevant

The document discusses consumer perceptions of augmented reality (AR) based on analysis of social media posts. It finds that most posts about AR apps are positive buzz from micromedia exposure, but sentiments become negative when people actually try the apps. While AR is becoming more useful, awful apps are mixed in with good ones online. Standards are needed to distinguish high quality AR apps from poor ones to manage consumer expectations.
An agile organization has three key capabilities: (1) adapting to changes in the external environment, (2) gaining insights from information and knowledge, and (3) maintaining control while allowing for flexibility. Some organizational practices that support agility include stimulating cooperation between employees, decentralizing coordination through networks while maintaining central coordination on strategic themes, and focusing on sourcing results flexibly through a mix of permanent and contract workers. An agile organization proactively builds a stable core while balancing centralized and decentralized coordination.
This document discusses attention and how it relates to interface design. It describes how attention can be controlled through top-down or bottom-up processes. Additionally, it covers visual search by defining target and field types and how to facilitate visual search, such as through salience, novelty, unique features, or deviations from defaults.
This document discusses the use of open educational resources (OER) in higher education. It defines OER as educational materials that are freely available online for anyone to use and adapt. The document outlines OER initiatives at Lund University and Oulu University in Sweden and Finland. OER are presented as a way to enhance access to education, reduce costs, and improve quality by facilitating sharing of resources.
The document provides information about various film editing and cinematography techniques such as match on action, shot reverse shot, and the 180-degree rule. It also discusses audience planning, research, planning, construction, and evaluation aspects of film production. Key elements include matching movement across shots to make actions seem continuous, framing speakers in dialogue in medium close-ups, and maintaining the same side of an imaginary line between shots for continuity. Production entails organization, meeting deadlines, using technology, and considering the audience to develop meaning.
This document provides feedback on a student's project for their BTEC LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE MEDIA PRODUCTION course, noting the tasks they completed, did not complete, and should focus on developing for future projects such as conducting audience research, developing character profiles, and improving their filming and editing skills. This document summarizes a presentation by Ebba Ossiannilsson on open educational resources (OER) and open learning cultures. It discusses what OER are, how to find, use, reuse and produce them, as well as issues of practice, law and quality regarding OER. OER can enable mobility, collaboration, openness and individualization in education. Challenges to adopting OER include attitudes at the individual, institutional, national and global levels. Overall, OER are educational materials that can be freely used, adapted and shared to enhance access, reduce costs and improve quality in education.
This document provides instructions for folding different types of clothes, including shirts with short sleeves, shirts with long sleeves, and pants. It demonstrates how to neatly fold each item for storage.
Ebba Ossiannilsson discusses MOOCs and quality. She has participated in many MOOCs as a learner and facilitator. She outlines the European Commission's recommendations for higher education, which include exploiting MOOCs, innovative learning practices, and open education resources. MOOCs can complement formal education and explain difficult concepts. They provide an arena for learning through open online courses and materials. While technologies allow new forms of learning, quality lies in the eyes of the beholder and learning is about people, not technology. New actors bring new influences that can strengthen quality through cooperation and competition.
