4. Rulers in MS Publisher
Help you line up text, images and other objects and
get a clearer idea exactly where those objects will
appear on the printed page.

6. To Display Rulers
From the VIEW tab, SHOW group select the
RULERS checkbox
Notes: If the ruler are showing, the checkbox infront
of the selection will have tick within the box.

8. To Change Ruler Measurements
1. From the FILE Tab, select OPTIONS... The
OPTIONS dialog box appears.
2. Select the ADVANCED tab on the left
3. In the DISPLAY group of options on the right from
the MEASUREMENT UNITS pull down list, select
a measurement unit
4. Click OK the measurement system is now changed.

10. Guides in MS Publisher
Guides are thin lines that help you align various
objects.
11. To Place a Guide
1. To place a vertical guide, place your tool over the vertical
ruler area. To place a
horizontal guide, place your tool over the horizontal ruler
area. The mouse becomes a double-sided arrow.
2. With your tool over the ruler area, click and hold the
mouse button
3. Drag the guide onto your page a coloured line appears.
12. 4. When the guide is in the desired place, release the
mouse button the guide is set.
OR
1. On the PAGE DESIGN tab in the LAYOUT group
click on the arrow at the bottom of the
GUIDES button a menu appears.
2. Select RULER GUIDES a dialog will appear.
13. 3. Enter specific measurements at the flashing cursor
and click SET. The ruler guide is set
4. Enter vertical or horizontal guides as you wish. Click
OK to close the dialog and return to
your publication.
14. To move existing Guides
1. Place your pointer over the guide you want to move. The
mouse becomes a double-sided
arrow.
2. Click and hold the mouse button
3. To reposition the guide, drag the guide to its new
location. To remove the guide, drag
the guide into the ruler area
4. Release the mouse button
15. To hide all Guides
1. From the VIEW tab, deselect GUIDES. The option
is selected if a check mark appears.
OR
Press [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [O]
16. To Remove all Ruler Guides
1. On the PAGE DESIGN tab in the LAYOUT group
click on the arrow at the bottom of the
GUIDES button a menu appears.
2. Select RULER GUIDES a dialog will appear.
3. On the dialog click the CLEAR ALL button. All
guides will be removed
17. 4. Be sure to do the same on the VERTICAL tab as well
as the HORIZONTAL tab

Blue Lines
Mark the edges, or margins, of the printable area on
each page of your publication.
Automatically created when you set your page
margins.

Green Lines
Can add anywhere in your publication.
Can Be useful for lining objects up...
Can also be useful for marking areas where you plan
to fold the printed publication.
24. Layout Guides
Layout guides help you align objects, such as
pictures, text boxes, and tables. Layout guides give
you visible guidance for aligning objects on the page.
Layout guides include margin, column, row, and
baseline guides.

Margin guides are the visual guide to show you
where your page margins lie on the page. You set
margin guides by setting the page margins. You
enable the margin guides on the View menu in
Publisher 2003 and 2007, and on the View tab in
Publisher 2010.

Column and row guides help you keep your page
aligned.

Baseline guides look just like the old ruled notebook
paper. You enable the baseline guides on
the View menu in Publisher 2003 and 2007, and on
the View tab in Publisher 2010.
