GIS can be used in pesticide management in several ways: 1) GIS monitors and maps the spatial extent of pests and diseases to identify patterns and link locations to other spatial data. 2) GIS predicts the potential spread of pests and diseases and provides input for risk assessment models in pest control. 3) As shown in a case study, GIS was used to map the spread of a banana disease in Africa, identify priority intervention areas based on food security, and target control efforts to maximize impact.
