The Theory Of The Black Man
between a white and a black man and settles in his mind that everyone is a human being. Griffin
narrates that in his life as a black man he witnesses sociability, which is the one thing he never
thought as a white man existed within the black society. Griffin had never practiced what it meant
to be black, and his I position was enlightened by how the blacks behaved towards white peopleand
what they said. In his white society, the I position regarding blacks was not quite a real picture of
the blacks experience in the racist society. As a black man, he saw things in a new light and
realized how racism was established among white people.
According to the Dialogical theory, the two selves adopted by Griffin outstandingly transformed
his general sense of self and his view of the black and white cultural standings. He formed a
situation for discourse between his two selves, which consequently caused him to acquire a
completely new perspective concerning racism. He had a one on one experience with the fate of
black man in a racist society, and in this instance, he was emotionally in touch with the affairs of
a black man. He says that he had felt the beginnings of loneliness, not because he was a Negro but
because the man he had become, the self he knew, was hidden in the self of another. He reports
that this was a devastating experience. He realized his skin color would radically change the
manner in which he experienced himself.
Griffin describes that his face had assumed the

Ella Fitzgerald s Influences
Ella Fitzgerald is known as the First Lady of Song, and for good reason. Throughout her career,
Fitzgerald took jazz singing to new heights of fame and popularity, influencing the style of jazz
and future generations of musicians. Today, her music remains well known and loved, and her
long and prolific career reflects her impeccable skill and style. Her influence is still strong today,
with singers such as Adele, Mica Paris, Lady Gaga, and Lana Del Rey (BBC) citing Fitzgerald as a
major influence on their style and their love of music. Fitzgerald is often referred to as one of the
greatest jazz vocalists, along with Billie Holiday. However, Fitzgerald s style was not dominated
by the typical approach to jazz singing, instead being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Webb and his wife were extremely influential at this point in Fitzgerald s career, telling her to
relax, not to rush, and go with the beat, which would define eventually Fitzgerald s style.. When
Webb passed away, Fitzgerald took over the band, renaming it Ella Fitzgeraldand Her Famous
Orchestra . They performed together until 1941, when the wartime draft dissolved the group.
Fitzgerald s career took off after World War II, when she joined Norman Granz s Jazz at the
Philharmonic (JATP) concerts and toured internationally with jazz instrumentalists. While
performing on the JATP tours, she was still under contract with Decca, not with Granz s label,
Verve. While under contract with Decca, her recordings mainly consisted of material that was
beneath her capabilities and that contrasted strongly with the work she was doing with JATP. . It
wasn t until Granz bought out her Decca contract in 1955 that her talent was truly shined in the
recordings. Under Verve recordings, Fitzgerald prospered and frequently performed,
demonstrating her passion and talent while delighting audiences around the world. Despite her
obvious talent, Fitzgerald was known for her self doubt and frequently about how others viewed
her singing. In contrast to her energetic performances, she led a rather quiet personal life. Her
marriage to Bernie Kornegay in 1941 was annulled in 1943, and then in 1948 she married jazz
bassist Ray Brown. In 1951, the couple adopted a baby whom

Impact of Hyksos Essay Plan
To what extent did the Hyksos occupation of Egypt influence the development of early New
Kingdom Egypt.
Introduction:
The Hyksos invaded and occupied Egypt from the 15th 17th dynasties known as the second
intermediate period, before their eventual defeat by the Egyptians which started the 18th dynasty.
The Hyksos were highly important to the development of New Kingdom Egypt
With several new technologies brought it by the Hyksos, e.g. smaller, quicker horse drawn chariots,
composite bow etc.
The Egyptians were now residing in Thebes and surrounded by enemies with the Hyksos to the

As a result of the Hyksos wars, Egypt was no longer isolated and before long began to play a full
part in the developments and trade of the Eastern Mediterranean. (Grimal)
Body 2: Technology
Without invasion of the Hyksos, and their introduction of new technologies, the Egyptians would
have possibly not been faced with the wealth and prosperity seen in New Kingdom Egypt. also not
having the means to surpass and destroy the Hyksos
The technology introduced by the Hyksos domination provided the Egyptians with the incentive
and the means towards world expansion and so laid the foundations and to a great extent
determined the character of the New Kingdom (Bradley)

Real Estate Easement Essay
In previous articles, we ve discussed easements or right of ways and how they are used. Generally
speaking, an easement or right of way grants one person or entity the right to use another person or
entity s property. As is obvious, this can come with a number of complications; particularly if the
situation is approached without the necessary information and knowledge regarding how to handle
the situation. So previous articles about how to handle an easement already in place are important,
but that s not the only important discussion when it comes to easements in southern California real
estate. What do you do when you need to create an easement?
Top 5 Methods of Creating Real Estate Easements:
1. Written Agreement Between the Two Parties... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Easement by Necessity Through Court Order In some instances, the court can designate an
easement out of necessity. For instance, if a piece of property exists that has no access to the public
roadway because it is surrounded by properties owned by others, they must be allowed to exit/enter
their own property.
3. A Deed Conveying Property Designating an Easement This often occurs when a landowner
wants to sell a portion of a larger piece of land. For instance, a land owner could sell the back 20
acres of their 50 acre piece of land. In order for the new owner to access public roadways from their
land, an easement would be created in the deed and a portion of the front acreage (still held by the
original owner) would be designated to be used for access.
4. Through Condemnation for the Public Good Local, state or federal government can condemn a
property or a portion of a property under eminent domain or order to utilize the land for a public
project as long as it is deemed as for the public good. In this instance, the current owner of the
land will often have dissenting views as to what is actually for the public good. In many cases, this
type of easement could occur in order for the completion of new highways,

Women s Role Of Women In The 16th Century
Europeans during the 16th century were facing a time where men were the head of the
household as well as heads of government. As a result, when Elizabeth I became the queen of
England, it was said that she was a queen in a world of kings. Prejudice against a female ruler
began around Europe, most likely because this was the first occurence of this. The negative
attitudes of religious and reforming leaders influenced Elizabeth to show her strength as well as
gain power and respect for her entire country. All throughout Europe, every country was ruled by a
man or group of men. Since this was so common in each country, it became expected that a man
would again come to rule England after Elizabeth s sister Mary. But instead, Elizabeth became
queen. Many church leaders spoke out against this change, for example Nicholas Heath, the
archbishop of York. He said, her Highness cannot be supreme head of Christ s militant church
(Document 2). An archbishop being a high rank in the church system shows that Heath is
experienced in the church and probably shares the beliefs of the church. During the 16th century,
the Catholic Churchwas facing a time of reform where many people were looking to question some
of the church s beliefs and traditions. As a result, most everyone in the Catholic Church was doing
everything possible to stop any further changes, in this case, prevent a female ruler from taking the
throne. The overall idea that women should not hold any high ranking positions,

The work environment for these workers is ideally a comfortable well lit office setting. With the

nearly became something more. The silence between the two had been almost deafening before
routine and the normal order of the day took over. Thoughts of Nikki slowly began to fade into the

of her, whereas Jenna had very little.
She had left college and worked hard to build up some cash to take on her first bar. This had been
a success and soon she bought another. Within 8 years, her bars and restaurants were running
smoothly and were highly regarded in the city. She had achieved this with her own hard work and
with little or no help from anyone.
Nikki unsurprisingly also had done well for herself and settled down with Dan a big, handsome
guy that Jenna had noticed from her days on campus. She had seen him drinking in one of her
bars once and had a flirty chat with him. If she was being honest with herself this was the kind of
guy that she would like to settle down with. He was successful, smart and with a certain look in his
eye that led her to think there was more to him than people would imagine.
Jenna had not settled down, far from it. She had a few arrangements in place with men and
woman to ensure nice and unexciting would never be something that she would have to endure.
She had taken control of her life and had the time and resources to fulfil almost any desire that she
could imagine. Her free time was precious and often she like to spend it doing what she loved the

Diction In The Invisible Man
Reading Between and Underneath the Lines: The Invisible Man
Since its publication over half a decade ago, Ralph Ellison s The Invisible Man has been critically
acclaimed for its provocative attempt in translating the African American struggle in the US into a
form of a novel. Ellison s masterful command of language allowed him to tackle extremely
sensitive topics such as racism in a seemingly sophisticated yet implicitly subversive manner. The
Invisible Man is a bildungsroman a type of novel that chronicles a character s moral and
psychological growth. Through his effective use of symbolism, syntax and diction, and other
literary devices, he weaved a craft that did not only capture people s attention but started a dialogue
on the iniquities that continue to subsist in the society. Hence, this essay will focus on Ellison s use
of these literary techniques and how they facilitated in supporting the moral and psychological ...

The way The Invisible Man expresses his thoughts, his words, his actions, and even those that he
does not say or do speaks for itself. Whether in simple sentences or in the complex ones and
whether it is delivered formally or casually, the narrator always tells seemingly superficial
subjects but a closer look would reveal that he conveys something deeper. For example, in an
iconic scene towards the end he said, Running from the birds to what, I didn t know. I ran. Why
was I here at all? I ran through the night, ran within myself. Ran (Ellison 412). The way he retold
the events that happened before him also appeals as certain yet mysterious, optimistic but
distraught, and reflexive although disillusioned. His syntax, diction, and use of the complexities of
language help the readers to understand what he is going through and feel with

Examples Of Sadism In The Bloody Chamber

castle, at home neither on the land nor on the water, a mysterious, amphibious place (Carter13) filled
paintings that portray violence or sadistic objects is the place in which the antagonist of The
Bloody Chamber unleashes his animal instincts.
The sadistic villian, whose name recalls Marquis de Sade, the father of sadism, is modeled after the
legendary figure of Bluebeard and also linked with Gilles de Rais (1404 40), a Breton knight who
was a companion in arms of JoР°n of Arc and Р°n infР°mous child murderer.

One of them is the theme of power and objectification. The sadistic pictures that the Marquis
collects in are is the ultimate example of the woman as object and the man as powerful manipulator.
Influenced by the writings of the Marquis de Sade, Carter illustrates his idea that sex is often
inextricably linked with violence. In his Bloody Chamber the Marquis has not only a collection of
violent pornography and but this is also the place where he tortures his wives. He finds pleasure in
violence; he is in love withthe pain he causes to them.
The bloody chamber is a place of both violence and enlightenment, as the the heroine discovers the
true nature of her husband s desires and her own inevitable fate.
The Marquis represents the dominant scopic position within patriarchal society: the active, gazing
position. As an expression of sexuality, it refers to sexual pleasure derived from looking at erotic
objects: erotic photographs, pornography etc.

Parental Divorce Article Analysis
Lawton, L. E., Bures, R. (2001). Parental Divorce and the Switching of Religious Identity. Journal
For The Scientific Study Of Religion, 40(1), 99. Purpose: This article examines the impact of
parental divorce on the likelihood that an individual has changed their religious identity. Methods:
We use the nationally representative 1987 National Survey of Families and Households (NSFH).
This data set contains information on 13,017 respondents, including information on their current
and childhood religious affiliation and family structure. Our sample consists of the 11,372
respondents who reported that they were raised as either Catholics or as mainline Protestants (see
Mueller 1971). Of this sample, 3,461 respondents were raised as Catholics and 7, 911 were raised as
Protestants. Among Protestants, we further distinguish between liberal and moderate Protestants
(n=4,129) and conservative Protestants (n=3,782). We exclude Mormons and Jehovah s Witnesses
because these two groups do not fit into the Protestant denomination structure as outlined by
Mueller. For the analysis of switching versus staying, we use logistic regression. The dependent

is consistent that women are more likely to switch to another denomination. Divorce increases the
likelihood of apostasy, leading to an increased likelihood of switching from Catholic to None,
moderate Protestant to None, and conservative Protestant to None (although the latter is not
significant). Apparently, for some divorced adults, the ties to religious ideology and community

Regardless of whether numerous software companies acknowledge it, they confront the test of

Noah Reflection
Like the Bible, the movie starts off at the very beginning. Eventually, Noah tells his children the
story of the construction of earth which is accurate to Genesis, though he mixes the second and
fourth days. The Bible says that the sun and the moon was formed on the fourth day not the
second day. When it refers to recent state of the land, the film sets up two factions: Noah and
Lemech, Tubal Cain and the good men, the evil men. The evil are offspring of Cain, which is
accurate to what the Biblesays in Chapter 3. According to that chapter, Cain moved east and
constructed towns and eventually he had kids. In the film, Noah s wife was named Naamah and
the film made it seem as if she was an equivalent to Noah. She discusses with him about raising
their children and about the ark. In the Bible, like most females in the story, she is mentioned to
as Noah s wife and all we know is that she had boys and that she was on the ark. It seems that
things such as her unfruitfulness and then her curing at the hands of Methuselah, was added to the
movie. We are aware that she had kids, but the twin girls are not stated.
Na el the female that Noah makes Ham depart is not in the Bible. As I stated previously, the Bible
says that Ham s spouse was on the ark. Furthermore, in the film Noah finds out about the flood
because of two somewhat complicating predictive thoughts, both of which find him immersed in
water. In the text, its more direct, and God simply tells him what s occurring.

Today the war on drugs has made it difficult to determine what is legal and illegal. Depending on

Fashioning a Fraud Case Study Essay
In this article, Bobbie Jean Donnelly was a fraudster who used Travel and Expense reimbursements
to defraud her company. Donnelly figured out how to manipulate her travel and expense
reimbursements to eventually defraud her company of about $275,000. Had her company had
proper controls in place for travel and expense reimbursements, wouldn t have occurred to this
magnitude.
Donnelly was targeted in an internal investigation because she was one of three employees with the
highest amounts of travel and expense reimbursements hers totaling, $115,000. One of the red flags
in the case was the fact that Donnelly s supervisor had only submitted $40,000 in travel and expense

When this scheme was used, Donnelly would also follow Exhibit 7 6 from Wells, and prepare an
expense report claiming numerous taxi expenses. For supporting documentation she would alter or
photocopy the original receipt and then change amounts of tip or total. These could have either
been forged or given to the supervisor who at first glance may not realize that these are fictitious
documents. This type of fraud is difficult to prevent but can easily be detected. Fictitious
reimbursements can be detected by; expenses that are consistently rounded off, patterns in which
expenses are consistently for the same amount, reimbursement requests that are consecutively
numbered, or receipts that do not look professional or lack information. (Wells, 187 188)
Preventing and detecting reimbursement expenses can be very challenging and time consuming
for companies. However, in order to prevent these schemes, a company needs to have explicit
policies that clearly convey to each and every employee what will and will not be reimbursed.
Donnelly was able to defraud her company out of a quarter of a million dollars in a short two
year period. In order to prevent these schemes and not use up so much time, Kessler points out that
there are tools that could be used to examine and parse such data [which] include IDEA Data

about the relatedness of these two species ranges from previous theories, the dispersion of their
common ancestor, and the evolution.
For a period of time, species of similar characteristics and location were considered to be related
taxonomically. This manner of classification was used on both, the kiwi and the elephant bird.

It is suspected that this study has not been conducted for the fact that there is a great distance
between the two taxa and the elephant bird was one of the largest birds while the kiwi is
extremely small compared to it. The discovery that these two taxa are related provides evidence
that similar types of species evolving together does not make them the closest relatives. The next
thought was that allopatric speciation cause the two birds to be separated by such a distance.
This was disproven, or at least considered less likely, due to the fact that Madagascar and New
Zealand were not connected to each other they were linked by other land masses. Another key
point in disproving this is that the molecular biology states that the two taxa branched off after the
land masses were separated. It is thought that the common ancestor between the kiwi and the
elephant bird was able to fly. The ability to fly would allow this common ancestor to spread great
distances, which could explain the distribution of kiwis and the elephant birds. It can also be
inferred that the other ratites had an ancestor that was flight capable, which shows how the other
ratites were possibly distributed around the world. This also shows that since they were

Book Review on Chinua Achebe s No Longer at Ease
Throughout life there is chaos and calm, ups and downs, good fortune and seemingly
insurmountable challenges. For the majority of life, it is chaotic but controlled; you deal with
issues as they come, and occasionally good things happen and give your mind a break. Obi s
fortune is good for most of his life; he gets the first scholarship from Umuofia and studies
literature in England before coming home and pursuing a job in the civil service. Eventually things
settle down and he ends up stuck in the middle. Although he has a good job that pays very well, he
has debts to pay and an unhealthy mother. His fiancГ©e is an Oso, an outcast and he cannot get the

Obi worked in a European Post job on the Civil Service s Scholarship Board, under the supervision
of Mr. Green. Early on, he commits himself to honesty and integrity, rejecting a monetary bribe
from the brother of a scholarship applicant and also rejecting the applicant herself from bribing him
with her body. He maintains this mentality for as long as he can, but once things start going wrong,
he has second thoughts. He ends up with serious financial problems and has to borrow money in
order to pay his debts; Digging a new pit to fill up and old one (p.124). Because of his financial
difficulties and the sudden problems which arise with the death of his mother and the loss of
Clara, he begins questioning his ideals and has a change of heart. During his grief he certainly
has an identity crisis, and gives in to the temptations. He begins to take bribes from people in
order to pay his debts, in contrast with his die hard honesty from earlier on. He eventually
realizes that he was doing the wrong thing and vows to stop taking bribes, but one more would
be okay. It happened to contain marked bills and proved his guilt, so just one more was too little
too late to prevent the inevitable tragic end to Obi s story. No Longer at Ease is almost a textbook
Shakespearean tragedy. Obi ( Tragic Hero) is in an elevated position as a university educated man
with a government job. His fatal flaw (taking bribes) is hinted at early in the book, before flashing

The People Of The Khasa
even the slaves of the Khasa. The Khasa is considered the people left behind during one of the
many violent prehistoric battles. That stayed and created a life for themselves in the cities they
conquered. These early settlers paved the way for the culture and way of life that still thrives in
these mountains. Being only able to appropriately live in the middle himalaya to the plateau
range during prehistoric migrations the Greater Himalayan region remained untouched.
Mountaineering, alpinism, climbing all mean the same. The purpose of enjoying climbing
itself as a sport or recreation, distinct from merely climbing while hunting or as a religious
pilgrimage. This was not a thing until around the 1854 when a man called Sir Alfred Wills
climbed the Wetterhorn in the swiss alps came back to england and formed the first alpine club.
This marked the beginning of a sport that has killed the people that live with it and baffles the
people who live without it. Around a hundred years later the world of alpinism was looking for
unsubmitted peaks and they turned to the himalayas. This was not the first time the himalayas

there is two types of ways to do it. Expedition style and alpine style. Expedition style climbing is
when you bring a large slow moving party and make your way up the slopes in a series of camps.

Acute Care Nurse Practitioners Interviews Essay
Acute Care Nurse Practitioners Interviews
A day in the life of a trauma intensive care nurse practitioner.
This particular nurse practitioner (NP), Diana Hayes, seems like somebody who has done this
job for decades; in reality she obtained her acute care NP (ACNP) degree in 2014, less than 2
years ago and got her advanced practice license in Tennessee the same year. Her current role
working as an intensivist NP in the trauma unit at Vanderbilt Medical Center is part of a recently
launched program that brought NPs into the care of the sickest patients in the hospital.
Being one of the first NPs in this role was a frightening experience for her, there were not
preceptors in this area , she states, so they had to create the role from the ground, not an easy task
while taking care of highly acute patients.
It is imperative to point out that Vanderbilt has employed a high quantity of NPs in different
intensive care units (ICUs) in the hospital, since the inception of the role in Tennessee, the only
exception has been the trauma ICU. Until now, only physicians and fellows were allowed to
manage these patients.
As far as physician supervision is related, she feels comfortable working in a supervised
environment; there is a sense of safety and support of people with years of experience in the field,
who are always willing and available to support her when needed.
Her role allows her to practice within the extend of her education and with great autonomy. As an
NP, she is able

Signs Of Autism Essay
Autism affects many different individuals in today s society. In fact, 1 in 68 people have some
form of Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Autism Fact Sheet ). It affects every race and ethnic group but
studies have shown it is typically shown more in males. Autism indicates a group of complicated
neurodevelopment disorders depicted by repetitive and characteristic patterns of behavior and
struggles with social communication and interaction. There is no exact cause of autismbut it is
believed that certain genes are associated with the disorder. Researchers have noticed some
differences in some regions of the brain. It is also believed that genetics and environment may play
a role.
Typically the signs and symptoms of autism are noticed during the first three years of a child s
life ( Autism Symptoms ). The signs of autism vary from case to case but there are some present
in most. These are how an individual acts regarding social interactions, verbal or nonverbal
communication, and a limited interest in activities or play. Laura Hensley noticed the signs and
symptoms when her son Clancy was eighteen months old. When we moved to Iowa, Clancy
stopped talking. Another sign was that he got into Thomas the Train and he would line them all up
by color and size, describes Hensley. Other signs included his speech, eye contact, and how he

My Middle School Self And Growing Up
Growing up is a journey we all have to travel. We all make our own paths on our adventure of
change. Along the way the path will be beautiful and smooth sailing, bumpy and rough, and
sometimes conflict will appear out of the blue. At times forks in the road will show up and
decisions must be made. Change is inevitable. Throughout a lifetime decisions made will be small
and slight, or huge and major. It does not matter because one decision can change one s path
completely. Even the slightest change can make the difference. The decision could even be a
change of hairstyle. A change in hairstyle could lead to a new fashion sense, to a new genre of
music, to a completely new person. I myself have noticed many differences and similarities between
my middle schoolself and now; and it is only the beginning. One similarity between my middle
school self and my current self is my personality. Throughout middle school I was always upbeat
and very outgoing. I loved talking to new kids and making people feel welcome. Positive
reinforcement was definitely my forte. At any sporting event I was the girl cheering the loudest
and usually losing her voice. In middle school I would express being outgoing by performing
ballet and doing forensics. I also would sing at my church. I am proud to say that I am still like
this today. It is such a pleasure to be able to brighten someone s day, which is why I am so happy
that, in this case, I have not changed since middle school. Besides my

Warrior In The Middle Ages
Introduction
When we hear the word warrior, we think of someone who has great strength, endurance, and
agility. A warrior can be defined as either a male or female who exhibits one or more of these
characteristics. But, can we truly classify a warrior as a hero? Looking into the Middle ages,
there are some great warriors, male and female, who have graced us with their presence in
Medieval History. In fact, some that come to mind are: King Arthur, Joan of Arc, and Robin Hood.
Many women in the Middle ages are not seen as warriors, this title was given to the men. Even
though, many women during this time; despite the gender difference, were included in the ranks of
many mercenary and national armies . These women were fearless fighters and defended their
homesteads and country if warranted. Women who took on the role as warriors, were seen in a
total different light as natural women , they were expected to abandon their true identities and take
on a more ruthless, and masculine role . In fact, many women began to dress like men in order to
fight alongside them in battle. As the times began to change, so did the ways of thinking. As more
women began to join the battlefields, the more they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men were called Knights and they were referred to as mounted or armored soldiers who generally
rode horses but, this was seen to be connected to nobility and social status . But, the questions that
remain unanswered are, how is a man distinguished or noble enough to be called a knight? Does
being a Knight entitle a man to be classified as a warrior first? In the early part of the Middle ages,
any warrior who distinguished himself in combat may have been considered a knight . But, later
in the Middle ages, the title became less prominent because in order to be labeled as a knight, the
warrior had to demonstrate great courage and strength in battle and that in itself, qualifies a warrior

The Effect of Manual Hyperinflation and Suctioning in...
A study was conducted to assess the effect of manual hyperinflation and suctioning in mechanically
ventilated patients to prevent the risk of ventilator associated pneumonia admitted in intensive care
unit of selected hospital, Belgaum, Karnataka A randomised control trial.
Background and objective:
Mechanically ventilated patients are increasingly at the risk of acquiring Ventilator associated
pneumonia (VAP) which is the leading infectious complication, affecting from 8% to 28% of
patients admitted in the intensive care units. Morbidity and mortality associated with the
development of VAP is high, with mortality rates ranging from 20 to 41%.Development of VAP
increases ventilator days, critical care and hospital lengths of stay. Essential airway management is
one of the important interventions to prevent ventilator associated pneumonia. Manual
Hyperinflation (MH) enhances clearance of airway secretions and thereby improved lung
compliance, reduced inspiratory resistance, improved V/Q matching, cleared airway and re
expanding the collapsed alveoli. MH could resemble a forceful cough, with which, sputum could
propagate from distal to more proximal areas that is, from the smaller airways toward the larger
airways, where it can be easily removed through endotracheal suctioning. Hence MH followed by
suctioning is considered to be a suitable intervention to prevent VAP among intubated and
mechanically ventilated patients.
The objective of the study was to assess the effect

Sociology Essay On Cult
There is no universally agreed definition of the word cult , it is only rarely used as a self
description and does not refer to any particular belief system. Since the 1920s, the word cult has
most commonly been used to designate a minority religious group whose beliefs and practices an
outside observer views as dangerous or strange.
There are different varieties of cults, the Moonies, the Children of God, Eckankar, the Hare
Krishna, and Scientology are a few. Basically, there are two main types of cults, those with
Christian based beliefs, and those with Eastern Religion based beliefs.
Some organizations have issued checklists with characteristics of destructive cults . From a

The Effects Of Eugenic Sterilization
Eugenics Sterilization, developed by an eminent scientist, Francis Galton, is the science of
improving the qualities of the human species or a human population by controlling breeding to
increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristic traits and decrease the occurrence of
undesirable characteristic traits or genetical defects (Bergman, 2000). Eugenic sterilizationrefers to
the involuntary sterilizationof certain categories of individuals without their need for consent by
those subjected to the procedure (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411). Eugenic Sterilization has ruined thousands
of lives and impacted individual in multiple ways.
Individuals classified as mentally deficient, feeble minded, epileptic, promiscuous, sexual
deviants, or persons classified as habitual criminals were mainly targeted (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411).
Eugenicists argued degenerate traits tainted society through the reproduction of the lowest class
and sterilization was to keep the handicapped from perpetuating themselves (Kaelber, 2014). In
addition, eugenicists also argued that feeble minded individuals were believed to be financial
burdens to society by overcrowding prisons, hospitals and living off welfare (Kaelber, 2014).
Eugenic Sterilization was seen as a way to prevent the spending of tax dollars on the feeble minded
(Kaelber, 2014). These arguments allowed Eugenics to become an acceptable practice. Advocates
believed that getting rid of the feeble minded and mentally deficient would decrease the
undesirable characteristic traits within the human gene pool and ultimately improve the human
population (Kaelber, 2014). The very first eugenic sterilization law was passed in 1919 but it
was never put to use (Kaelber, 2014). Many worried that the law was unconstitutional and there
the State feared putting it into practice (Kaelber, 2014). The landmark 1927 United States
Supreme Court case of Buck Vs. Bell served as a catalyst for many eugenic sterilization programs
across the Country (Scott, 2015). In 1929, The North Carolina General Assembly passed new
sterilization laws (Kaelber, 2014). It stated that the governing body or the responsible head of any
penal or charitable institution supported wholly or in part by the State

Essay on Trojan War
Did the Trojan War occur?
The existence of a war in Troy is undeniable; however it is not the Trojan war of Homer s Iliad. It
is believed that Homer s account may have been based on a real event therefore having some truth
but due to the mythological nature of the source, the unreliability of oral transmission and the
exaggerated romantic theme, the account is not a valid source for historians. Written evidence such
as the Hittite records and the different theories presented by archaeologists Schliemann, Dorpfield,
Blegen and Korfmann strongly suggest the occurrence of a war in troy and have some links to the
Iliad. Despite these links, there is only enough evidence to support the existence of a war in Troy

Heinrich Schliemann was one of the first archaeologists who discovered the site based on
geological descriptions in Homer s Iliad. Through the excavation of the site, Schliemann
uncovered nine major layers on the mound and concluded that level 2 was Homer s Troy.
Archaeologists who came later criticised Schliemann s amateurish excavation methods and
concluded that level two was too early to be the Homeric Troy. Despite Schliemann s destruction
and false claims of the site, his discovery of Hissarlik proved that there is some truth to Homer s
account and deserves some credit for setting the foundation for archaeologists such as Blegen,
Dorpfield and Korfmann. Schliemann s discovery of the site proved that there is no doubt Troy
existed and that the city s destruction was definite.
Wilhelm Dorpfield was one of many archaeologists who began excavations and studies at
Hissarlik. Level VI was the level that Dorpfield believes is the legendary Troy. He argued that
Level VI fitted Homer s description as being a grand city surrounded by high limestone walls.
However, there was no evidence of Greek camps outside the walls of the city that supported
Homer s account of a ten year siege, thus leading us to conclude that Level VIIa must ve been the
Homeric Troy. Layers of charcoal uncovered by Korfmann that dated to roughly 1250 BC, the
approximate end of Homer s Troy is evidence of fire

Rock candy is a simple scientific experiment made at home from sugar and water. Rock candy can
be made up of different types of sugar. I used pure cane granulated sugar. Rock candy is formed
when sugar is dissolved in boiling water and is cooled and placed in a glass jar with the wooden
skewer. When the water evaporates the sugar crystal will start to grow overtime. The water and
sugar is a saturated solution, meaning that water could only hold sugar if both were very hot. By
cooling the water, the sugar comes out of the solution and forms crystals on the skewer and
around the glass. The hypothesis for my experiment was that the more sugar you use the more
crystals will form. My question is if you add more sugar, will more crystals?
Experimental Procedure Question: If you add more sugar will more crystals form? Hypothesis: If I

Language and Memory Paper
Introduction
Language is important to the way we communicate. Semantic memory is acquired over the years
and is vital to language. Language becomes second nature when we already know what, when and
how to say something. We form sentences, phrases, paragraphs by planning what we say and how
we will say it. Most people believe that when we speak, it is without thought and is done
unconsciously. However, in this paper I will seek to explain the relationship between semantic
memory and language production.
Explain the nature and function of semantic memory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For every action, there is a reason for it. We have to appreciate our cognitive processes and
continuing to understand how they work and what goes into making them work is so rewarding.
Analyze the basic functions of language
Pinker (1994c) esteems language as the jewel in the crown of cognition. Language serves the
purpose of communicating or revealing our cognitive processes. The beautiful thing about language
is that it is one of most complex and valuable aspect of cognition (Robinson Riegler amp; Robinson
Riegler, 2008). Babies are able to learn language and sometime understand the language before they
can speak it. There are different types of languages: sign language, English, Spanish, Dutch, French,
Braille. All of these are ways that people communicate with one another depending on their culture
and mental/physical circumstances (deaf, blind).
One characteristic of language is that everything we refer to is symbolized by a word. The way
we put words in a sentence and combine them to make sense, would conclude that we have a basic
understanding of what role words play in a sentence (noun, verb, pronoun). We would not know
this if not through language. Through language we are able to speak, write, read and understand.
As Robinson Riegler (2008) brings out, all the words a person knows comprise their mental
lexicon and is a part of our semantic memory.
When we talk about language, we also should

in 1913, a number of consulting engineers met to discuss the possibility of forming a global
Federation. The meeting was a success in that it led to the formal constitution on 22 July 1913 of

Alcoholism Addiction Core
Alcoholism/Addiction Core Essay
Alcoholism is a major medical problem in today s society. Nearly everywhere you go, serves
alcohol. From the restaurants you eat at, to grocery stores, to gas stations and even places one
would go for entertainment. Alcohol has been around since biblical times and the abuse of it
grows as time goes on. For this exact reason, we are going to compare the prevalence of alcoholism
and discuss other factors about it in the following three different countries: The United States,
Germany and Italy.
Before we go any further, lets learn a little bit more about alcoholism. According to Webster s New
World Dictionary, Alcoholism is the habitual or compulsive consumption of alcoholic liquor to
excess. An alcoholic is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personally, I do not believe that taking medication will cure the problem. There needs to be a
substitution and accountability as to why the person should give their problem up. A lot of
alcoholism stems from an event or life problem the person cannot overcome. The individual has
to want to do it for themselves or someone else in their life. Step one would be counseling. Before
curing a disease, you must know what is causing it. Then, they need a challenge and a reason why
they should stop. Lastly, fill their time when they would usually drink and use it to benefit their life

The Significance Of Amadeus
The Significance of Mozart s Music in the Movie Amadeus Would producing a film without any
background music be possible? Technologically yes, of course, but any filmmakers would not try to
produce their movies without soundtracks because the images of films come truly alive when a
soundtrack is added in the movie (Monaco 235). Although due to the underdevelopment of film
techniques, many films in the 1920s were produced without music at first, after the progress of
sound film technology, the film industry completely moved from silent movies to talkies. Right
after the advent of talkies in the film industry, The Jazz Singer, the first sound movie, was released
and introduced the new genre of film a musical film. The new genre of the movie,... Show more

The storyline of Amadeus, which is based on the original play of the same title written by Peter
Shaffer, mainly revolves around the entire life of Mozart and his music. Basically, the movie s
plot is based on the rumor that Salieri poisoned Mozart because of his jealousy to Mozart s
musical talent. Even if the rumor, which had spread over Vienna in the 1820s, clearly turned
out not to be true through several historical research, still, the movie Amadeus depicts the
fictional life of Mozart and Salieri s plan to murder him in a realistic way by delicately
displacing Mozart s great works to show Salieri s intense inferiority to Mozart and his music.
The movie s plot the story of Mozart s life in Vienna and his early death is mainly unfolded with
the confession of aged Salieri after his suicide attempt feeling severe guilty conscience that he
murders Mozart. Salieri reveals during his confession that he wants to murder Mozart because of
his inferiority to the genius of Mozart. With Salieri s feeling of jealousy to Mozart, the movie
develops its storyline based on the musical rivalry and conflict between Mozart and Salieri.
Considering the underlying reason of the rivalry their musical talent between two characters,
Mozart s music works as an essential role to move forward the plot of the film. By arranging
Mozart s music at the episodes that cause Salieri to feel

Muhammad Ali Influence
As Muhammad Ali once stated, Don t count the days; make the days count ( Boxing in the 1960s.
). Looking back on his life, that is exactly what he did throughout his life. During his lifetime, he
impacted many and also made countless statements that still ring true today. His impact on the
outlook of the Vietnam War was influential for many, and it motivated others to push for civil
rights like he did. A lot of fellow activists approved of his actions, while others were very against
what he believed in. Clearly, Muhammad Ali, otherwise known as Cassius Clay, was a controversial
topic during the Vietnam War.
Muhammad Ali, born on January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky, was originally given the name
Cassius Clay by his parents. When he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although his extreme fear of heights and flying almost prevented him from making it there, his
trainer helped ease some of his stress and anxiety, making the trip possible ( Muhammad Ali. St.
James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture). He entered as a light heavyweight boxer for the United
States. Dominating all of his opponents leading up to the championship match, Clay was riding
high. Soon after learning whom he would face in the final match, he knew that he would be the
next gold medalist. With a runaway win, Cassius Clay triumphed in his defeat over Polish
coffeehouse owner, Zbigniew Pietrzykowski (Gewen). As an 18 year old, Cassius Clay was a
gold medalist in the 1960 Rome Olympics. After returning home, Clay signed contracts with ten
different millionaire companies in Kentucky. The Louisville Sponsoring Group provided all of
these companies to support Cassius Clay s winning career. This company hired retired boxer,
Archie Moore, to train him, but Clay did not approve of this and hired his own personal trainer and
manager, Angelo Dundee. Over the next four years, he fought in nineteen professional fights and
won them all ( Muhammad Ali. Notable Black American

CARD Report For Literature With Sample
Card Report You will be writing a card report for each of the novels you have read. A card report
is a way of analyzing a fictional work into its several elements. It is called a card report because
it has often been done on a 5 by 8 inch index card. This report is a preliminary analysis of the
novel. This is not only an assignment in analyzing literature but also in writing. You do not have
much time or space, and so every word counts. On your report you should include the following: 1.
The title of the story and the date of its original publication 2. The author s name and birth and
death dates. 3. The name of the central character, together with a description of the character s main
traits or features. 4.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tone: The tone is light and humorous throughout much of the novel because of Huck s point of
view and his innocent view of many things, but the tone is serious, ironic, and critical whenever
Huck encounters violence and death. Theme: One thing that makes an individual mature is to
gain insight into the darker side of human beings. Style: Twain s style is marked by the dialects
of his characters, by the symbolism of the river and the shore and of Huck s actions. The dialects
help make the characters seem more like real people. The river and the shore motifs come to
symbolize Twain s view of society. Evaluation: Although the dialect of some of the characters
takes some getting use to, I enjoy this book. This is an American classic, filled with humor but
critical of people who can be so civilized and so cruel at the same time. It is a boy s adventurous
coming of age that celebrates the individual spirit of America and the romantic vision of
innocence and virtue in nature. Quotations: You feel mighty free and easy and comfortable on a
raft. p. 92 This is Huck s observation about the difference between living on the shore and living
on the river. If I never learnt nothing else out of pap, I learnt that the best way to get along with
his kind of people is to let them have their own way. p. 99. Huck makes this observation when the
Duke and King force their way on to the raft. It

Griffin narrates that in his life as a black man he witnesses sociability, which is the one thing he never thought as a white man existed within the black society. Griffin had never practiced what it meant to be black, and his I position was enlightened by how the blacks behaved towards white peopleand what they said. In his white society, the I position regarding blacks was not quite a real picture of the blacks experience in the racist society. As a black man, he saw things in a new light and realized how racism was established among white people. According to the Dialogical theory, the two selves adopted by Griffin outstandingly transformed his general sense of self and his view of the black and white cultural standings. He formed a situation for discourse between his two selves, which consequently caused him to acquire a completely new perspective concerning racism. He had a one on one experience with the fate of black man in a racist society, and in this instance, he was emotionally in touch with the affairs of a black man. He says that he had felt the beginnings of loneliness, not because he was a Negro but because the man he had become, the self he knew, was hidden in the self of another. He reports that this was a devastating experience. He realized his skin color would radically change the manner in which he experienced himself. Griffin describes that his face had assumed the ... Throughout her career, Fitzgerald took jazz singing to new heights of fame and popularity, influencing the style of jazz and future generations of musicians. Fitzgerald s career took off after World War II, when she joined Norman Granz s Jazz at the Philharmonic (JATP) concerts and toured internationally with jazz instrumentalists. While performing on the JATP tours, she was still under contract with Decca, not with Granz s label, Verve. While under contract with Decca, her recordings mainly consisted of material that was beneath her capabilities and that contrasted strongly with the work she was doing with JATP. . It wasn t until Granz bought out her Decca contract in 1955 that her talent was truly shined in the recordings. Under Verve recordings, Fitzgerald prospered and frequently performed, demonstrating her passion and talent while delighting audiences around the world. Despite her obvious talent, Fitzgerald was known for her self doubt and frequently about how others viewed her singing. In contrast to her energetic performances, she led a rather quiet personal life. Her marriage to Bernie Kornegay in 1941 was annulled in 1943, and then in 1948 she married jazz bassist Ray Brown. A Deed Conveying Property Designating an Easement This often occurs when a landowner wants to sell a portion of a larger piece of land. For instance, a land owner could sell the back 20 acres of their 50 acre piece of land. In order for the new owner to access public roadways from their land, an easement would be created in the deed and a portion of the front acreage (still held by the original owner) would be designated to be used for access. 4. • 7. Women s Role Of Women In The 16th Century Europeans during the 16th century were facing a time where men were the head of the household as well as heads of government. As a result, when Elizabeth I became the queen of England, it was said that she was a queen in a world of kings. Prejudice against a female ruler began around Europe, most likely because this was the first occurence of this. The negative attitudes of religious and reforming leaders influenced Elizabeth to show her strength as well as gain power and respect for her entire country. All throughout Europe, every country was ruled by a man or group of men. Since this was so common in each country, it became expected that a man would again come to rule England after Elizabeth s sister Mary. But instead, Elizabeth became queen. Many church leaders spoke out against this change, for example Nicholas Heath, the archbishop of York. He said, her Highness cannot be supreme head of Christ s militant church (Document 2). An archbishop being a high rank in the church system shows that Heath is experienced in the church and probably shares the beliefs of the church. During the 16th century, the Catholic Churchwas facing a time of reform where many people were looking to question some of the church s beliefs and traditions. As a result, most everyone in the Catholic Church was doing everything possible to stop any further changes, in this case, prevent a female ruler from taking the throne. The Invisible Man is a bildungsroman a type of novel that chronicles a character s moral and psychological growth. Through his effective use of symbolism, syntax and diction, and other literary devices, he weaved a craft that did not only capture people s attention but started a dialogue on the iniquities that continue to subsist in the society. Eventually, Noah tells his children the story of the construction of earth which is accurate to Genesis, though he mixes the second and fourth days. The Bible says that the sun and the moon was formed on the fourth day not the second day. When it refers to recent state of the land, the film sets up two factions: Noah and Lemech, Tubal Cain and the good men, the evil men. The evil are offspring of Cain, which is accurate to what the Biblesays in Chapter 3. According to that chapter, Cain moved east and constructed towns and eventually he had kids. In the film, Noah s wife was named Naamah and the film made it seem as if she was an equivalent to Noah. She discusses with him about raising their children and about the ark. In the Bible, like most females in the story, she is mentioned to as Noah s wife and all we know is that she had boys and that she was on the ark. It seems that things such as her unfruitfulness and then her curing at the hands of Methuselah, was added to the movie. We are aware that she had kids, but the twin girls are not stated. It is suspected that this study has not been conducted for the fact that there is a great distance between the two taxa and the elephant bird was one of the largest birds while the kiwi is extremely small compared to it. The discovery that these two taxa are related provides evidence that similar types of species evolving together does not make them the closest relatives. The next thought was that allopatric speciation cause the two birds to be separated by such a distance. This was disproven, or at least considered less likely, due to the fact that Madagascar and New Zealand were not connected to each other they were linked by other land masses. Another key point in disproving this is that the molecular biology states that the two taxa branched off after the land masses were separated. It is thought that the common ancestor between the kiwi and the elephant bird was able to fly. The ability to fly would allow this common ancestor to spread great distances, which could explain the distribution of kiwis and the elephant birds. Chinua Achebe s No Longer At Ease Nick Polanosky SS110 9:15 MWF Book Review on Chinua Achebe s No Longer at Ease Throughout life there is chaos and calm, ups and downs, good fortune and seemingly insurmountable challenges. For the majority of life, it is chaotic but controlled; you deal with issues as they come, and occasionally good things happen and give your mind a break. Obi s fortune is good for most of his life; he gets the first scholarship from Umuofia and studies literature in England before coming home and pursuing a job in the civil service. Eventually things settle down and he ends up stuck in the middle. Although he has a good job that pays very well, he has debts to pay and an unhealthy mother. His fiancГ©e is an Oso, an outcast and he cannot get the approval ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obi worked in a European Post job on the Civil Service s Scholarship Board, under the supervision of Mr. Green. Early on, he commits himself to honesty and integrity, rejecting a monetary bribe from the brother of a scholarship applicant and also rejecting the applicant herself from bribing him with her body. He maintains this mentality for as long as he can, but once things start going wrong, he has second thoughts. He ends up with serious financial problems and has to borrow money in order to pay his debts; Digging a new pit to fill up and old one (p.124). Because of his financial difficulties and the sudden problems which arise with the death of his mother and the loss of Clara, he begins questioning his ideals and has a change of heart. During his grief he certainly has an identity crisis, and gives in to the temptations. He begins to take bribes from people in order to pay his debts, in contrast with his die hard honesty from earlier on. He eventually realizes that he was doing the wrong thing and vows to stop taking bribes, but one more would be okay. It happened to contain marked bills and proved his guilt, so just one more was too little too late to prevent the inevitable tragic end to Obi s story. No Longer at Ease is almost a textbook Shakespearean tragedy. Obi ( Tragic Hero) is in an elevated position as a university educated man with a government job. His fatal flaw (taking bribes) is hinted at early in the book, before flashing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This particular nurse practitioner (NP), Diana Hayes, seems like somebody who has done this job for decades; in reality she obtained her acute care NP (ACNP) degree in 2014, less than 2 years ago and got her advanced practice license in Tennessee the same year. Her current role working as an intensivist NP in the trauma unit at Vanderbilt Medical Center is part of a recently launched program that brought NPs into the care of the sickest patients in the hospital. Being one of the first NPs in this role was a frightening experience for her, there were not preceptors in this area , she states, so they had to create the role from the ground, not an easy task while taking care of highly acute patients. It is imperative to point out that Vanderbilt has employed a high quantity of NPs in different intensive care units (ICUs) in the hospital, since the inception of the role in Tennessee, the only exception has been the trauma ICU. Until now, only physicians and fellows were allowed to manage these patients. As far as physician supervision is related, she feels comfortable working in a supervised environment; there is a sense of safety and support of people with years of experience in the field, who are always willing and available to support her when needed. • 28. My Middle School Self And Growing Up Growing up is a journey we all have to travel. We all make our own paths on our adventure of change. Along the way the path will be beautiful and smooth sailing, bumpy and rough, and sometimes conflict will appear out of the blue. At times forks in the road will show up and decisions must be made. Change is inevitable. Throughout a lifetime decisions made will be small and slight, or huge and major. It does not matter because one decision can change one s path completely. Even the slightest change can make the difference. The decision could even be a change of hairstyle. A change in hairstyle could lead to a new fashion sense, to a new genre of music, to a completely new person. I myself have noticed many differences and similarities between my middle schoolself and now; and it is only the beginning. One similarity between my middle school self and my current self is my personality. Throughout middle school I was always upbeat and very outgoing. I loved talking to new kids and making people feel welcome. Positive reinforcement was definitely my forte. At any sporting event I was the girl cheering the loudest and usually losing her voice. In middle school I would express being outgoing by performing ballet and doing forensics. I also would sing at my church. I am proud to say that I am still like this today. A warrior can be defined as either a male or female who exhibits one or more of these characteristics. But, can we truly classify a warrior as a hero? Looking into the Middle ages, there are some great warriors, male and female, who have graced us with their presence in Medieval History. In fact, some that come to mind are: King Arthur, Joan of Arc, and Robin Hood. Many women in the Middle ages are not seen as warriors, this title was given to the men. Even though, many women during this time; despite the gender difference, were included in the ranks of many mercenary and national armies . These women were fearless fighters and defended their homesteads and country if warranted. Women who took on the role as warriors, were seen in a total different light as natural women , they were expected to abandon their true identities and take on a more ruthless, and masculine role . In fact, many women began to dress like men in order to fight alongside them in battle. As the times began to change, so did the ways of thinking. A study was conducted to assess the effect of manual hyperinflation and suctioning in mechanically ventilated patients to prevent the risk of ventilator associated pneumonia admitted in intensive care unit of selected hospital, Belgaum, Karnataka A randomised control trial. Background and objective: Mechanically ventilated patients are increasingly at the risk of acquiring Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) which is the leading infectious complication, affecting from 8% to 28% of patients admitted in the intensive care units. Morbidity and mortality associated with the development of VAP is high, with mortality rates ranging from 20 to 41%.Development of VAP increases ventilator days, critical care and hospital lengths of stay. Essential airway management is one of the important interventions to prevent ventilator associated pneumonia. Manual Hyperinflation (MH) enhances clearance of airway secretions and thereby improved lung compliance, reduced inspiratory resistance, improved V/Q matching, cleared airway and re expanding the collapsed alveoli. MH could resemble a forceful cough, with which, sputum could propagate from distal to more proximal areas that is, from the smaller airways toward the larger airways, where it can be easily removed through endotracheal suctioning. Hence MH followed by suctioning is considered to be a suitable intervention to prevent VAP among intubated and mechanically ventilated patients. • 34. The Effects Of Eugenic Sterilization Eugenics Sterilization, developed by an eminent scientist, Francis Galton, is the science of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population by controlling breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristic traits and decrease the occurrence of undesirable characteristic traits or genetical defects (Bergman, 2000). Eugenic sterilizationrefers to the involuntary sterilizationof certain categories of individuals without their need for consent by those subjected to the procedure (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411). Eugenic Sterilization has ruined thousands of lives and impacted individual in multiple ways. Individuals classified as mentally deficient, feeble minded, epileptic, promiscuous, sexual deviants, or persons classified as habitual criminals were mainly targeted (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411). Eugenicists argued degenerate traits tainted society through the reproduction of the lowest class and sterilization was to keep the handicapped from perpetuating themselves (Kaelber, 2014). In addition, eugenicists also argued that feeble minded individuals were believed to be financial burdens to society by overcrowding prisons, hospitals and living off welfare (Kaelber, 2014). Eugenic Sterilization was seen as a way to prevent the spending of tax dollars on the feeble minded (Kaelber, 2014). These arguments allowed Eugenics to become an acceptable practice. Advocates believed that getting rid of the feeble minded and mentally deficient would decrease the undesirable characteristic traits within the human gene pool and ultimately improve the human population (Kaelber, 2014). The very first eugenic sterilization law was passed in 1919 but it was never put to use (Kaelber, 2014). Many worried that the law was unconstitutional and there the State feared putting it into practice (Kaelber, 2014). The landmark 1927 United States Supreme Court case of Buck Vs. Bell served as a catalyst for many eugenic sterilization programs across the Country (Scott, 2015). In 1929, The North Carolina General Assembly passed new sterilization laws (Kaelber, 2014). It is believed that Homer s account may have been based on a real event therefore having some truth but due to the mythological nature of the source, the unreliability of oral transmission and the exaggerated romantic theme, the account is not a valid source for historians. Written evidence such as the Hittite records and the different theories presented by archaeologists Schliemann, Dorpfield, Blegen and Korfmann strongly suggest the occurrence of a war in troy and have some links to the Iliad. Heinrich Schliemann was one of the first archaeologists who discovered the site based on geological descriptions in Homer s Iliad. Through the excavation of the site, Schliemann uncovered nine major layers on the mound and concluded that level 2 was Homer s Troy. Archaeologists who came later criticised Schliemann s amateurish excavation methods and concluded that level two was too early to be the Homeric Troy. Despite Schliemann s destruction and false claims of the site, his discovery of Hissarlik proved that there is some truth to Homer s account and deserves some credit for setting the foundation for archaeologists such as Blegen, Dorpfield and Korfmann. Schliemann s discovery of the site proved that there is no doubt Troy existed and that the city s destruction was definite. Wilhelm Dorpfield was one of many archaeologists who began excavations and studies at Hissarlik. Level VI was the level that Dorpfield believes is the legendary Troy. Thomas University of Phoenix PSYCH 560/ Cognitive Psychology Dr. Kristi Collins Johns 15th August 2010 Language and Memory Paper Introduction Language is important to the way we communicate. Semantic memory is acquired over the years and is vital to language. Language becomes second nature when we already know what, when and how to say something. We form sentences, phrases, paragraphs by planning what we say and how we will say it. Most people believe that when we speak, it is without thought and is done unconsciously. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For every action, there is a reason for it. We have to appreciate our cognitive processes and continuing to understand how they work and what goes into making them work is so rewarding. Analyze the basic functions of language Pinker (1994c) esteems language as the jewel in the crown of cognition. Language serves the purpose of communicating or revealing our cognitive processes. The beautiful thing about language is that it is one of most complex and valuable aspect of cognition (Robinson Riegler amp; Robinson Riegler, 2008). Babies are able to learn language and sometime understand the language before they can speak it. There are different types of languages: sign language, English, Spanish, Dutch, French, Braille. All of these are ways that people communicate with one another depending on their culture and mental/physical circumstances (deaf, blind). One characteristic of language is that everything we refer to is symbolized by a word. The way we put words in a sentence and combine them to make sense, would conclude that we have a basic understanding of what role words play in a sentence (noun, verb, pronoun). We would not know this if not through language. Through language we are able to speak, write, read and understand. As Robinson Riegler (2008) brings out, all the words a person knows comprise their mental lexicon and is a part of our semantic memory. When we talk about language, we also should ... Technologically yes, of course, but any filmmakers would not try to produce their movies without soundtracks because the images of films come truly alive when a soundtrack is added in the movie (Monaco 235). Although due to the underdevelopment of film techniques, many films in the 1920s were produced without music at first, after the progress of sound film technology, the film industry completely moved from silent movies to talkies. Right after the advent of talkies in the film industry, The Jazz Singer, the first sound movie, was released and introduced the new genre of film a musical film. The new genre of the movie,... Looking back on his life, that is exactly what he did throughout his life. During his lifetime, he impacted many and also made countless statements that still ring true today. His impact on the outlook of the Vietnam War was influential for many, and it motivated others to push for civil rights like he did. A lot of fellow activists approved of his actions, while others were very against what he believed in. Clearly, Muhammad Ali, otherwise known as Cassius Clay, was a controversial topic during the Vietnam War. Soon after learning whom he would face in the final match, he knew that he would be the next gold medalist. • 43. CARD Report For Literature With Sample Card Report You will be writing a card report for each of the novels you have read. A card report is a way of analyzing a fictional work into its several elements. It is called a card report because it has often been done on a 5 by 8 inch index card. This report is a preliminary analysis of the novel. This is not only an assignment in analyzing literature but also in writing. You do not have much time or space, and so every word counts. On your report you should include the following: 1. The title of the story and the date of its original publication 2. The author s name and birth and death dates. 3. The name of the central character, together with a description of the character s main traits or features. 4.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tone: The tone is light and humorous throughout much of the novel because of Huck s point of view and his innocent view of many things, but the tone is serious, ironic, and critical whenever Huck encounters violence and death. Theme: One thing that makes an individual mature is to gain insight into the darker side of human beings. Style: Twain s style is marked by the dialects of his characters, by the symbolism of the river and the shore and of Huck s actions. The dialects help make the characters seem more like real people. The river and the shore motifs come to symbolize Twain s view of society. Evaluation: Although the dialect of some of the characters takes some getting use to, I enjoy this book. This is an American classic, filled with humor but critical of people who can be so civilized and so cruel at the same time. It is a boy s adventurous coming of age that celebrates the individual spirit of America and the romantic vision of innocence and virtue in nature. Quotations: You feel mighty free and easy and comfortable on a raft. p. 92 This is Huck s observation about the difference between living on the shore and living on the river. If I never learnt nothing else out of pap, I learnt that the best way to get along with his kind of people is to let them have their own way. p. 99. Huck makes this observation when the Duke and King force their way on to the raft. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
