A Family Affair In The King James Bible
A Family Affair
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath
of life; and man became a living soul. ... And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man,
made he a woman, and brought her unto the man (King James Bible. Genesis. 2. 7 22). And so,
God created the first family of many. While Adam and Eve had an idyllic relationship in the
Garden of Eden, not all families can boast of a two parent household with a loving family dynamic.
Both within the King James Bible, within other novels, and even within real life, each family has a
different way of living and dealing with the situations that arise to try to tear them apart. Quite
often, connections can be found between the everyday life of characters in novels, and the lives of
those that are written into the Bible, to be forever remembered. Sibling arguments, not respecting
thy father and mother, and transiency are a few of many ways the Bible can be used to understand
what is occurring in the lives and families of the characters.
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain and said, I have gotten a man
from the Lord. And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was
a tiller of the ground (Genesis. 4. 1 2). Cain and Abel were the first siblings in the story of Genesis,
as Ruthie and Lucille are the first siblings to live in the house their grandfather built for a very long
time. Ruthie and Lucille, from

Fourth Industrial Revolution Essay
The Fourth Industrial Revolution Soon, robots will be everywhere. They will be at your school, at
your home, at the store, but not at work because they have taken your job. Nearly fifteen years after
the Third Industrial Revolution, America is anxiously awaiting the upcoming Technological
Revolution (properly known as The Fourth Industrial Revolution). They are fearful of such an
advancement in technology, unlike the Chinese who have embraced such improvements with open
arms. The Revolution raises many concerns over job loss, security flaws, and unequally distributed
power within the government. Jeremy Chew, author of Don t Worry, Technology Won t Take Your
Job , reassures his audience by stating Technological advances have always caused upheavals....

As large companies gain the power to mimic human data science, they will have the capabilities
to develop code, predict future decisions, and individualize experiences for each consumer.
Companies will also have the capability to computer scan automatically and generate codes
based on each client s need. Amazon Go is a prime example of advanced computer scanning and
machine learning. The cashier less store uses computer vision, deep learning algorithms, and
sensor fusion to quickly scan and apply the correct charge to each customer s cart, even
withdrawing a charge if you put an item back. Amazon calls it Just Walk Out Technology
(Amazon). Their use of this technology has been predicted to increase Amazon s profits by about
24%. It is convenient, simple, and you can just walk in and walk out. This kind of technology use
has the ability to increase the profit and sales for companies big and small. AI and IoE also have
the capabilities to predict stock and calculate profit margins accurately, allowing better efficiency

United States And The Post Cold War Political And Criminal...
The central claim of the report is that the poorest people live in a context of recurrent cycles of
violence whether criminal and political and in order to stop those cycles, legitimate institutions
have to be implemented to ensure security, jobs and justice. The main idea then is to remodel
institutions in order to reinforce people confidence. Those arguments are discussed by referring to
the Post cold war political and criminal violence, with the explanation of their dramatic
consequences on economic and social development. The report is influential in scope in a way that
it attempts to rethink an international order but it is commonly critized that it provides only
obvious conclusions and fails to engage with essential issues. Then,... Show more content on

Firstly, the bibliography is not representative of the vast existing literature about conflict,
development and violence (Jones and Rodgers 2011).The majority of the literature mentioned is
based on quantitative parallels between economic and political aspects and conflict. This goes
against the World Bank claims that Our approach is multidisciplinary and draws on both
quantitative and qualitative evidence (2011, p. 73). The lack of qualitative data is also apparent
in the report s explanation that it structure is adequate with theories of violence in various
disciplines with the use of box 3.4 page 104 that is based on the research of economists. Even

debate that emerged with classic figures that are not mentioned in the bibliography such as
Machiavelli arguing that conflict contributes to the stability of the society (in Jones and Rodgers

is considered as one of the most prominent scholars that have studied the relation between violence
and the state. The main idea in his work is about what work does violence and conflicts do and
make a distinction between many types of violence, what the report does not. Finally, Galtung

Three Taxonomic GroupsGas Exchange, Insects, Fish, And...
gas exchange is the movement of oxygen and carbon dioxide gases across the membrane by
diffusion. These can be found within the three taxonomic groups insects, fish and mammals. Each
of these taxonomic groups all have different gas exchanges and adaptations to enable them to
continue their way of life. In this report, I will discuss the three taxonomic groups gasexchanges,
and adaptations to carry this out.
insects
The first taxonomic group is an insect. internal gas exchange systems connect individual cells,
and tissues with the air outside, due to a system of branching tubes named trachea. insects
contain air tubes, named trachea and tracheoles throughout their body. These tubes are held in
shape by rings of chitin. Insects don t have a circulatory system as such, so the tracheoles are to
reach each individual cell in the body, as they re relying on diffusion to take place to take in
oxygen. At each end of the tracheole, a small amount of liquid is placed, allowing gasses to
dissolve, and then diffuse into each of the cells. The tracheal system is efficient in maintaining a
high metabolic rate. The places in which the tubes leave the body, are called spiracles. Spiracles
have the ability to open and close, to control the water loss. When in need of lots of oxygen, or if
the environment is moist, the spiracles begin to open. When they close or are slightly open, they re
not in need of oxygen, or the environment is dry. Insects also ventilate their gas exchange

Discouraging High Testosterone Levels
In today s society, high testosterone levels are discouraged. In a world where we work in
cubicles, where violence gets you sent to prison, and where we are required to swallow our pride,
to do what we are told. Considering this, you could be led to believe that men are being poisoned
intentionally. A conspiracy, that guarantees we conform to their standards, throughout our lives.
Okay, before you dismiss me as a conspiracy theorist, take note that the Soviets were the first to add
fluoride to the drinking water, in prisons. They wanted to decrease testosterone levels, and to make
prisoners submissive. Considering testosterone is the driving force behind the courage of men, and
I seriously doubt the warden had any concern with dental health.
Now that you are ready to commit to a lifestyle that allows for the highest possible testosterone
levels, what do you do?
Detoxify First
Detoxifying sounds a lot worse than it really is. There are no enemas, or expensive juicer diets.
You just need to consume a form of sulfur, such as MSM, and zeolite. Both zeolite and MSM are
fairly inexpensive, and found readily at health and wellness stores.
Zeolite is formed when volcanic ash reacts with the surrounding rocks. This mineral has a regular,
porous framework that allows filtering, based on size. This molecular sieve, catches toxic
substances, with its characteristic structure, and allows the impurities to be excreted, in your urine.

Feudal Society Structure
6. Q: What were the basic underlining structures what are found in each feudal society and what
purpose did these structures serve?
A: The fiefs under feudalism all contained basic structures that were essential in maintaining a fully
sustainable community. Some basic structures include water mills, houses, barns, and workshops,
all self explanatory. The three most important structures were the church, the manor, and a three
field crop rotation complex. The manor was considered the brain of the fief, which provided shelter
to the vassals and his staff, as well as a place for royal celebrations such as feasts. The church as a
part of daily life for everyone working of the fief, including the vassal, and was seen as the most

This was called Feudal Justice , and gave nobles the ability to create court cases to settle disputes
between the defendants and the accused. These courts usually ended with the accused having to
pay a fine, which brought considerable income to the nobles throne, however, ordeal by God and
trial by combat were considered equally as effective in proving innocence. This system of justice
brought the same political power of the feudal system itself, knights could not accuse the king, but
peasants could call other peasants to be accused. Under this system, the daily lives of peasants
could be brought into question, however, both the accused and the accuser would receive the same
treatment, and if the accused was not found guilty, the accuser would receive the punishment. This
created a system that discouraged the use of judicial courts for personal gain, and disallowed the
ability to move higher in terms of social status( Feudal

American Symbolism In Hills Like White Elephants
Title In Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway, an American man exhibits control
over his lover, Jig, as they talk at a train station. Stereotypical with the role of women, Jig lacks
authority and control, not only in her relationship with the American, but in her day to day life,
as shown in her inability to act independently. The American s conversational coercion instills Jig
with a false sense of autonomy in the relationship, ultimately pigeonholing her into submission.
Almost immediately, Jig is established not as an equal, but rather as the American s
subordinate. While her partner is referred to as the American, and the waitress is referred to as
the woman, Jig is only known as the girl throughout most of the story. This description
demonstrates the man s control over Jig, distinguishing him as superior to his lover (Rankin). Jig
s inferiority is further shown through her lack of independent identity, as she is instead
characterized as an extension of her lover. This is displayed in her inability to even choose a
drink for herself, relying on the American to decide for her What should we drink? the girl asked
(1,Hemingway), and even speak for her. This action strips Jig of independence and control, in fact,
her dependence on the American causes her to constantly seek for his approval: she changes the

James Fenimore Cooper s Impact On American Literature
James Fenimore Cooper had a very interesting life, molded American literature, and influenced
many popular authors, such as Herman Melville, Richard Henry Dana, Jr., Francis Parkman, and
even Mark Twain, through his literary offenses. (1) The experiences Cooper had throughout his life
shaped his rogue character and literary style. The evidence of Cooper s impact to American
literature is well documented.
James Fenimore Cooper was born on September 15, 1789 in Burlington, New Jersey to William
Cooper and Elizabeth Fenimore. James was the last of twelve children; only seven survived
childhood: Richard, Hannah, Isaac, Ann, William and Samuel. Within the first year of James birth,

At the age of 12, William Cooper resolved to send James to a Latin based boarding school run by
Reverend Thomas Ellison. James closest companion in boarding school was William Jay, the
second son of governor John Jay. They used to adventure around New York, especially in the
excavated plot of land which Saint Peter s Church would be built on, with other boys who would
later become business for the state. This foreshadowed James trickster attitude. By the age of
thirteen, James entered Yale College.
Some evidence to the claims of James rogue character surface during his time at Yale. Simply
stated: Cooper was a prankster. It is reported that he put a donkey in a teacher s classroom, and
many other tricks. James never got into large trouble until his biggest prank: he blew up another
student s dorm door with gunpowder. By the age of 16, James Fenimore Cooper was expelled from
Yale College.
Shortly after James left Yale, he enrolled in the Navy. There is little to no information about this
time of his life other than it being a basis for his first book: Afloat and Ashore: A Sea Tale. On
December 22, 1809, his father, William Cooper died from a blow to the back of the head delivered
by a political opponent; this was a devastating episode as James was at sea when his father passed.
Shortly after, James met Susan DeLancey, whom he married on on January 1, 1811. The

Who s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf Analysis
Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf by Edward Albee is a play that addresses a variety of failures
through it s rather dysfunctional characters. Albee indicates the failures within American Society;
The 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and the tensions between the East and the West. The political
reflections by Albee are made through the characters of George and Nick, with George seemingly
representing George Washington the first American president and Nick representing Nikita
Khrushchev of the Soviet Union, as RoudanГ© notes this conflict was a terrible warning about the
very precariousness of existence . It is a sense of warning which Albee explores through the
presentation of his characters within the play and we too are made aware of the fragility of
American Society.
The most prominent failure within the play, however, could be argued to be the failure of gender
stereotypes. Martha s opening line What a dump taken from the Bette Davis film Beyond the
Forest . Acts as a summary of the entire play, her life is a metaphorical dump. The state of her
house represents the failure of the nation and is presented as chaotic by Albee within the play.
From the outset Martha does not fit with society s image of a woman, as Bottoms notes, Martha is a
vindictive caricature of womanhood ,she enters the play with the word Jesus . Opening the play
with profanity, something not appropriate for the ideal American housewife to say, establishes her
as the plays pagan. Throughout the play

Sir Robert Peel Paper: Effects on Modern Policing Through many years in our history, policing
worked without checks and balances, and strictly with trail and error. The structure that was used
in those days was not entirely solid in design. There was no procedure to fight crime and law
enforcement had no basis. Then, modern policing began in the early nineteenth century. Sir Robert
Peek finally allowed for a change in the criminal justice system after years of society trying to

The method did something for the public that was very important for the future of law enforcement;

between the public and the police would begin to grow after this latest structure. Furthermore, Peel
believed that police officers should enforce the laws but should not hold judiciary responsibilities.
Finally,
SIR ROBERT PEEL Peel s idea in regards to crime was the more police effort would ultimately
reduce crime and violence regardless of how many criminals were actually apprehended. Although
law enforcement has evolved tremendously since the 1800 s, the

principles first established by Sir Robert Peel are still the roots to the structure we see today in
the police force. The United States modern policing are designed based on three elements
including professional, specialized, and public. The element of professional is used because the
officers at all levels in law enforcement dedicate their lives and time to their job so they are
classified as professionals. Law enforcement is specialized because all officers have the ultimate
objective of enforcing the law and preventing crime. Government agencies also have the
responsibility to maintain public safety so they are ideally related to the public. Peel originally

production of this system of money is generating risks to the environment. The coin and the bill

I was in the water and Uncle Jim was showing me how to hold the water ski rope. Uncle Jim has
done a lot besides teaching me to water ski. One of these was teaching me about farming. He
also has always been there for me. He always is wanting to do stuff with me. My uncle Jim is the
person who positively influences me because he likes to do stuff with me. One thing my Uncle
Jim has done is tought me to do is waterski and wakeboard. He always had persistence and
wanted me to keep trying. When I tried wakeboarding he did the same thing, he was always

Communism And Fall Of Communism
What is Communism ? Communism according to Cambridge dictionary can be defined as: the
belief in a society without different social classes in which the methods of production are owned
and controlled by all its members and everyone works as much as they can and receives what
they need. . Communism is gotten from the Latin word communis common, universal. It s a
financial and social framework in which all (or almost all) property and assets are altogether
claimed by a raunchy society and not by individual residents. The goal is to make it a classless
society, and there s less gap between the poor and the rich. Communismtook place mainly in Russia,
China, Vietnam, Cuba, North Korea and some Eastern European countries etc. The most familiar...

COMMUNISM IN BULGARIA: in spite of the fact that Bulgaria changed its union and
proclaimed war on Nazi Germany on September 7, 1944 on September 9 a coup d Г©tat,
sponsored by means of the Red Army troops, introduced another administration headed by the
Fatherland Front, which might have been overwhelmed by the Bulgarian Communist Party. The
People s Republic of Bulgaria (PRB) was the name of the Bulgaria socialist gathering that existed
from 1946 to 1990, exactly when the Bulgarian Communist Party (BCP) was governing together
with the oppositional National Agrarian Party. The following two years were joined by
cumbersome suppression of the non Communist resistance. This just expanded when it got to be
obvious that the United States and United Kingdom had generally impartial themselves in
Bulgaria. By September, a referendum was held in Bulgaria, in regards to whether to leave it as a
monarch or it should become a republic. The majority of people voted for it to become a

Alice Walker Discrimination
Women s Rights Issues in 1900 s Portrayed in The Color Purple by Alice Walker Alice Walker s
The Color Purple is a excellent account of life as a poor woman in the 1900 s. Not only most
women in The Color Purple characters suffered from racism due to gender and skin color but
woman who suffered at the hands of men. All the burdens handed, abuse, and emotions provoked, it

Alice Walker portrayed physical abuse, emotional abuse, and mental abuse to women.
Physical abuse is the use of physical force that results in bodily injury, physical pain, or impairment.

Renewing the Mind
Renewing the Mind
I attempt to speak from personal experience as much as possible in addition to citing the opinions
and facts of others, let me begin by stating that probably the most harmful pattern of the world is
the judgment of others. It is true and I have witnessed firsthand the self esteem of many being cut
down to mere nothingness by the judgment of others. Is it a crime to look different, talk different
or be unique in our own special way?
Through my examination of the New Age belief system I believe many in society see themselves
as being the Lord of their own universe (Sire, 2009, p. 179) and I wonder does this flawed thinking
lead to an overinflated ego and the harmful judgment of others? The world without doubt is an
irrational and super rational place in the universe which produces stoned thinking (Sire, 2009, p.
180) people. With this thought in mind it is very easily to see how the harmful judgment of others
becomes the social order of the day. New Age thinking has also crept into Christianitylong before it
was even thought of, namely Roman Catholicism. For years I have struggled with the concept of
papal infallibility and the pope being seen as equivalent to God himself when speaking ex cathedra
(Houdmann, n.d., para. 1). I have also wrestled with the dogmatic principles, traditions, and the
Church s judgment of other faiths and even its own pilgrims in relation to human rights and God s
own natural law. The Catholic Church is not all bad,

The Portrayal Of Richard Kearney And The Negative Side Of...
The atrocities of the Holocaust, along with the suffering of its victims, are spoken of in literary
texts and shown in films. Can the Holocaust actually be represented ethically, in a way that honors
the horrific suffering of the victims, and in a real sense, by either of these forms of narrative
representations, especially film? Critics argue both sides of this question; some stating that the
movie, Schindler s List, trivializes the Holocaust; whereas, others defend the film. This paper will
look at both sides of this argument; the positive side of Richard Kearney and the negative side of
Claude Lanzmann.
In regards to one positive critique of the film, Schindler s List, Richard Kearney believes that
fiction can actually serve to bring out a truth that otherwise remains concealed (Kearney, 2012).
This belief came about, during a talk in Montreal, when a woman Holocaust survivor came up to
Kearney and said, You know, I was one of the survivors. I was on Schindler s list. I was never
able to return to the experience, never able to revisit it, never able to talk about it, never able to
think about it, remember it, until I saw the film. And when I saw the fictional account played by
fictional characters, I was then and only then able to identify with myself as a real victim. Her
words led Kearney to see Schindler s List as a positive cinematic portrayal of the Holocaust because
it took fiction for her to be able to experience it for the first time (Kearney, 2012).

A Report On The Free Piston Stirling
There are two types of Stirling engines to be considered the kinematic engine and the free piston
engine. Most of the military missions would use Lhe kinematic Stirling that produces
mechanical work directly; and this is the one that has received nearly all the development work
to date. The free piston Stirling is a sealed engine which uses a magnetized power piston to
activate alternator coils outside the pressure walls of the engine, thus producing an electrical
output. This configuration avoids the working fluid leakage problems associated with the
moving seals in a kinematic engine, but may be somewhat less efficient. GENERATOR SETS
(MOBILE Electrical power) General Purpose Sets There are a wide variety of military needs for
portable gcneration of electric power to support weapons systems, communications,
housekeeping power, environmental control, and many other functions. In order to avoid
proliferation of makes, models, and sizes, a DoD Standard Family of Mobile Electric Power
Sets has been established from which all users of electric power in the field must choose to
support their system requirements. This family is shown in Table ES 2. It will be noted that
while the power range is 0.5 to 750 kilowatts (kw), the majority of sets are in the 1.5 to 60 kw
range, with the smaller end of the range (under 15 kw) being most numerous. With the exception
of the very small power range, all the engines used are commercially available diesel engines, and

disposed of her at the first opportunity presented to them, when that evil merchant passed

Create a door for your house so you can easily enter and leave your house at will. If you choose to

Global Strategy Analysis Of Subway And Coca Cola
Global Strategy Analysis Carl Sidney B7840 / Strategy Formulation Implementation and
Evaluation Dr. DoolStrategic Alliance is the collaboration of two companies who came together
to implement an idea that will benefit both parties (Strategic alliance, 2009). It is crucial that
both parties understand what s really at stake in order to make their partnership successful. In
this paper, the writer took the time to analyze a partnership between Subway restaurants and
Coca Cola products. In addition, we will look at the economic benefit for each company. When
dealing with businesses there is a potential for ups and downs during the operations process. The
author will examine this collaboration between Subway and Coca Cola while using Porter s
Five Forces framework including a PESTEL (Political, Economic, Social, Technological,
Environmental and Legal) analysis of these two companies. Subway s first restaurant was
opened in Bridgeport Connecticut in August 1965. Their goal at the time was to serve a high
quality product by providing excellent customer service. One of their key approaches to success
is to keep a low operating cost with a great location to grow their business. Nowadays, Subway is
the world largest submarine chain with more than 40,000 restaurants in 105 countries (Subway,
2013). Coca Cola was founded in 1886 by pharmacist Dr. John Pemberton who wanted to create a

Jazz 219
Charles Mingus Charles Mingus is a very important and influential name in jazz; however he is
left out by many historians when talking about the history of jazz. The main reason he is left out
by so many historians, Mark Gridley in particular, is because of his attitude and ego. He is clearly
not the most pleasant person, and he surely does not display how a real jazz musician should act, at
least according to most historians. The way he acts during performances can be quite startling at
first, if you are not familiar with his ways and methods of playing. For example, he was known for
using profanity during performances, either geared at the audience if they were being too loud or

Another chapter I would also include him in would be Chapter 5, How Swing Differs from
Early Jazz . I would include Mingus in this chapter as well because it talks so much of his most
influential Jazz artist, and at one point fellow band mate, Duke Ellington. I feel like Mingus
truly does have enough variance in his music to help point out and draw the fine line between
early jazz and the newer swing jazz. The main differences between these two categories of jazz
are that in early jazz, you were a lot less likely to have the big band feel to the music, and soloist
played a more important role in early jazz, whereas in the swing era, you were introduced to more
of a variety of instruments as well as new techniques on how to play them. Mingus puts out good
examples and songs/performances that clearly display how things transitioned from early Jazz to
swing, and then onto other evolutions of jazz as well. After learning and hearing many of Charles
Mingus s music, I definitely feel it is unfair for any historian to leave him out of an in depth jazz
history book. I hope jazz book writers to come take note of Mingus s accomplishments, and start to
include him in the history books right up there with Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and Louis
Armstrong. It is only fair to him and his fellow band mates, however, only time will

WHY? Insufficient spread of information to the public.
Sub Problem
How can we completely inform the public about the dangers caused by the UVR?
INTRODUCTION
Another radiation from the sun can harm not only your skin but also your eyes. Extended exposure

A study of a United States population found that individuals who had high levels of sun exposure
were about 1.5 times more likely to develop cortical or posterior subcapsular cataracts than those
who had low sun exposure, while those with moderate sun exposure were about 1.2 times more
likely to develop each of these types of cataracts. * Pterygium: Pterygium is characterised by a
fleshy growth on the eye s surface. The WHO estimates that 4070% of the global burden from this
disease is attributable to sun exposure. A study conducted in Victoria reported that 43.6% of
pterygium cases were attributable to sun exposure. * Age related macular degeneration: Based on
laboratory studies showing thatUV rays cause retinal damage in rats, scientists believe that
exposure to UV rays contributes to the degeneration of eyesight which occurs naturally with ageing.
How UVR Impacts the Eye
The various tissue layers of the eye absorb the wavebands of UVR to different extents. The longer
the wavelength, the deeper the penetration of ocular tissue. Of the radiation from sunlight, UV B has
the greatest impact on the eye. Overexposure can result in photokeratitis or, in rare cases, solar
maculopathy. Studies show that chronic exposure to UV B can also cause cortical cataracts. UV A
is considered a greater threat to produce skin cancer than damage the eye.
While the ozone layer filters UV C from the sun, a welder s arc can generate toxic dosages of this
potent waveband.

Product Liability Case
To the extent that private prisons, Private Probation companies,, and Military contractors have to

Review Of Amazing Night With Logan
I had been about two weeks since Lexi had gone to the doctors and had experienced that amazing
night with Logan. She was about three days late for her period now and had just come back
from the store, a pregnancy test in hand. Now she was anxiously awaiting the results. She bit her
lip, looking in the mirror. What if she really was pregnant? How would Logan react? Would he
be happy or mad? Lexi really wanted a baby, to start her own family, especially with Logan. The
test suddenly dinged and Lexi picked it up excitedly. It was positive! I m going to have a baby!
Lexi squealed in delight. She was about to run out of the bathroom and find Logan to tell him the
good news when she suddenly realized that he was out of the house for the day. She sighed softly
and decided to wait until he got home. She wanted to tell him in person.
Logan had woken up early. He looked over at Lexi, still sleeping before kissing her forehead
gently, trying not to wake her. He got dressed quietly before walking over to the nightstand and
scribbling a note. Have to do some errands today. Should be back around lunch time, I ll bring
back some food! I ll miss you. Stay beautiful!

Logan placed the note where he knew she would find it when she woke up before leaving the
bedroom. He grabbed a quick bite to eat before he heard his phone buzz. It was Noah.

Patriarchy And The Challenge Of Feminism Essay
Judith Bennett is a Medievalist Historian who has focused much of her research on English
/European women and feminist history (1 2). In her book History Matters: Patriarchy and the
Challenge of Feminism, she argues that feminism and history, specifically women s, need to be
more closely linked. This link, she argues, comes from taking theories and methods from one field
and applying them to the other in order to create a more indepth analysis of both. Bennett states in
her introduction that this text ...builds steadily from problem to solution to elaboration, and though
this statement holds, due to the brevity of this book, many aspects of this text are not well defined,
explored, or analyzed (4 5).
Throughout this text, Bennett uses feminist language, and indeed the word feminism without
properly defining the term. It is true that this book is aimed at an audience that is likely to known
these terms. Yet, by not giving a definition Bennett opens the floor for radically different
interpretations based upon where the reader s definition falls on the spectrum, from hating men and
wanting female superiority to wanting equality and justice for all regardless of sex, that defines the
various schools of feminism. Despite this lack of clarity, many of the arguments that Bennett makes
are still valid. Specifically, Bennett notes that the language of feminist and women s history has
changed from the biting and often uncomfortable rhetoric of 1970s feminism to more neutral

Explain Why Stores Should Not Be Open On Thanksgiving
I think that stores should not be open on thanksgiving because one it will take time away from

people could go shopping after their dinner or spending time with their families., they should not

England named Gina. Michaela, an eighteen year old female from a small town Southern Baptist
high school, was the second female I interviewed. The only man I interviewed was Matt, a 19
year old male from a mid sized town. I began by asking each of my interviewees what messages
they had heard about sexual assaulton the University of Iowa campus and where they had heard
these messages. Gina talked about a time in which she saw people walking around with t shirts on
about sexual assaultawareness and was reminded of a lesson she had on it in a Global On Iowa...

Our conversations prompted some other questions about the background knowledge they had
on sexual assault, and how the University talked about it versus how their prior schools had
discussed the subject. It was interesting to get a male point of view on the topic because I, along
with a lot of other women on campus, feel like they don t have to deal with the topic of sexual
assault as much as we do. Especially with the required attendance of lectures and educationals on
the subject for both the University and the Greek Life programs. I felt frustrated at times that we
all wanted more information about the sexual assaults that have occurred on campus, but we
obviously didn t want to information about the victim to become public knowledge as it is their
private business. I would agree with a majority of the responses given to the questions, especially
the discussion of the My Cup is Not My Consent campaign. As well intentioned as it was, that
campaign is more a joke now, and we don t want to the University of Iowa to be unintentionally
promoting rape jokes. I also think that the men on campus should be required to attend just as many
sexual assault seminars as the women do. This issue should be just as much theirs as ours. Perhaps
if everyone had a better understanding what to look for in potential sexual assault situations, then
there would be less sexual assaults occurring on campus.

Synopsis
Perrier is French mineral water, globally known as naturally carbonated spring water with low
contents of sodium. In the past, Perrier controlled about 24% of the total U.S bottled water

about eighty million per year. However, Perrier now accounts for eighty percent of declining

Khisu Mineral Water, which has apparently cured the Korean King Sejong of all illnesses. Perrier
s considerable decline of its market share in the bottled water industry seems to be very challenging
for its marketing team and raises some questions of how to survive on the market and regain the
previous rhythm of sales. Maybe it s time for them to consider some inevitable changes in the
marketing strategy.
Analysis
Perrier has a lot of strengths compared to its competitors. It is naturally carbonated from France,
unique in its qualities, difficult to copy. It has an internationally strong brand name. So it makes
sense to keep the existing product available for the market and do not diversify. From the case
study we know that before the product s price was relatively high to soft drinks

Pros And Cons Of Child Beauty Pageants
Imagining if one day you saw your five year old daughter with a full face of makeup and high
heels. Now she looks like a miniature adult. Not only is she a miniature adult, but now she also
is very self conscious of herself and has an eating disorder at five years old. Child beauty
pageants have some pros and a of lot cons to them. Also, they can affect a child s development.
One should consider that child beauty pageants can lead to a lot of mental health issues for kids
at a very young age. First, we will talk about how child beauty pageants started. The upbringing
of child beauty pageants is very interesting. It started off with Pageants celebrating female beauty
and charm being fixture at fairs and festivals the U.S. since the 19th century (Hilboldt), and then
Their rise in popularity probably dates back to 1954, when the miss America pageants was first
broadcasted on TV (Hilboldt). In 1960, a miami broadcaster hosted the first locally televised
pageant for children, Little Miss universes (Hilboldt). Around The 1980 s child pageants had
become an inextricable part of life in the South... (Hilboldt). Pageants have dated back for
centuries, but did not rise in popularity until it was first broadcasted on TV. Furthermore, the
number of kids that participate in beauty pageants is eminence. A majority of little girls wanted
to be in pageants, because They began dreaming of one day becoming Miss America (Hilboldt).
With so many kids in pageants It s estimated that 25,000 children compete in more than 5,000
pageants in the U.S. each year (Hilboldt). It is crazy how many little girls participate in beauty
pageants each year just so they can hopefully become the next Miss America. While beauty
pageants are still relevant and legal in the U.S. France is trying to ban them. France is
considering a move to ban beauty pageants for girls under 16 as a way to fight the hyper
sexualization of children ( France ). While, Under the proposal, organizers of beauty pageants
aimed at young children...could face up to two years in prison and fines of $40,000 ( France ).
Also, The measure is a part of of a wider law on gender equality and was approved by the French
Senate after garnering 197 votes in favor of the ban,

Essay on MP3 File Sharing Hurts America
MP3 File Sharing Hurts America
Before the present time of computers and various media player technology, trading music files on
the internet was practically unheard of. Today MP3 music files have become file format that is
widely swapped over the internet. The problem with trading MP3 s is that it violates copyright laws.
However, this hasn t stopped the tens of millions of file sharing software users who continue swap
MP3 s. MP3 piracy is a costly business for many companies, and the disadvantages outweigh the
advantages of P2P file sharing. File sharing is a costly, illegal practice that hurts not only the
consumers, but the artists as well.
MP3 is a relatively new form of piracy, only being around for about ten years. ... Show more content

The Recording Industry Association of America has sued 1,445 people since September, with the
latest batch of 531 coming this month against people in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Atlanta,
Georgia, Orlando, Florida, and Trenton, New Jersey. Most of the earlier cases have been settled,
for an average of $3,000 each. According to Mitch Bainwol, the chairman and chief executive for
the RIAA, the record two million songs legally sold last week mostly on iTunes and Napster, prove
the lawsuits are educating users. He still believes that the faucet is still absolutely on; I just think
that the flow may have been slightly limited.
However, I d like to point out, that he cases that have been settled for $3,000 got a deal.
According to the RIAA website, online copyright infringement can be punished by up to three
years in prison and $250,000 in fines. Repeat offenders can be imprisoned up to 6 years. Individuals
also can be held liable for up to $150,000 per pirated song. To me, it seems that buying a CD for
fifteen or sixteen bucks isn t a bad deal at all, compared to the fines and hassle faced when (not if)
you get caught.
The effects of piracy are felt by everyone. There were 130,000 jobs lost due to piracy in the U.S.
alone in 1996 . Let s say that trend has held relatively steady over the past 8 years. That would
mean that over 1 million jobs have been

Automobiles Essay
Automobiles
The invention of the automobile in the early 20th century has had an adverse affect on our
environment. Our society has used technology in order to advance the automobile to make it better
and more efficient. The automobile industry knows what sells and they take advantage of that.
With this growing technology to advance automobiles also comes flaws. The biggest and most
obvious flaw is pollution. Because of pollution, we find ourselves asking the question of whether
this technology has helped our society more than it has hurt it. Automobiles are the cause of 60
percent of our air pollution today (Dewees 214). There are four main sources in which pollution
comes from an automobile. The first, on a hot day the sun will ... Show more content on

What really happens is that there are hydrocarbon atoms left over from the combustion process
because they did not burn properly or at all. Another pollutant that is given off by automobiles
along with hydrocarbons is carbon monoxide. This too is also a result of the incomplete process
of the combustion of fuel. Carbon monoxide is emitted directly from the tailpipe. There are
specific times when this is common, when your car does not get enough air during starting and
it chokes, when cars are not tuned properly, during cold weather the level of carbon monoxide
being emitted increases due to more fuel to start the car, and also at high altitudes. The office of
Mobile Sources did a study in 1992 which showed that carbon monoxide levels exceeded the
Federal air quality standard in 20 U.S. cities . Some other pollutants besides hydrocarbons and
carbon monoxide that are given off are nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxides. These nitrogen
oxides are given off by the high pressure in the automobiles engine where nitrogen and oxygen
atoms in the air react and then form the nitrogen oxide. All of these pollutants effect the
environment and people in a negative way. Next we will take a look at what exactly these
pollutants do to us. The most dangerous and widespread of all pollutants are hydrocarbons.
Hydrocarbons emitted by automobiles create smog, which in turn acts as a ground level ozone
layer and causes many health

Gender Roles In Memoirs Of A Geisha
During the early 1900s, society has given men and women roles they are expected to follow, with
men being the provider and money makers, and women having to look after the house and
children. In Japanese societies, women are sold away as geishas and prostitutes, while men work
in factories and big companies. Women are treated as inferior to men, as men have a clear cut
dominance over them. This is something they must understand, and were expected to follow the
rules and restrictions that come with it. In the novel Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, gender
roles play a very significant role, portraying the traditional stereotypes of male and females, showing
how males are the more dominant gender, which is evident through the opportunity... Show more

First, the novel shows how men can pursue their goals and leave the position they are in, while
women must stick with the role they are put into and do not have the choice of leaving it behind
for something else. One of the characters in the novel, the Chairman, is the founder of a company
called Iwamura Electric, which is one of the bigger electric companies in Japan. Before going on
to establish his own company, he works at a small electric corporation where he comes up with
the idea to allow the use of two lightbulbs in a socket built for only one, however, the manager
does not think it s a good design. This is revealed when the narrator says the director of the of the
company wouldn t build it, and so at the age of twenty two, shortly after marrying, the Chairman
left to establish his own company (Golden 210). This reveals that men have the free will to leave
a job if they wish, and are given the opportunity to follow their passion without having to be held
back to one profession. However, women are not given this opportunity, as they are sold away
without having the choice to leave or do something else with their lives. The women grow up to
become geishas, and if they aren t beautiful enough, they are sent into prostitution. Once a woman
becomes a geisha, they have no choice but to continue living this way, as the only other choices
they have is to become a prostitute, maid, or unemployed. This is evident when one of the
geishas says we don t become geisha so our lives will be satisfying. We become geisha because
we have no other choice (Golden 294). Women are not given the opportunity to pursue something
else, as they are put into their roles based on how they look and are not given any other alternative.
Men are portrayed as the dominant gender in this aspect as not only do they have the

The Last Judgement By Selma Burke Analysis
Together designed by Selma Burke is the piece of artwork that will be analyzed in this paper.
This piece of artwork is created to represent a message, but speaks so much more on a deeper
level. For example, the piece speaks to deeper level because of the first fact that Selma Burke
background began as an artist that spoke for the African Americanculture. At the time she was
advocating for African Americans she also was a practicing artist and teacher.
This piece in particular is very sentimental to the Hill District which is located in Pittsburgh,
because it was hung on the wall of the Hill Association for a period of time starting in the year of
1975. Selma Burke s Together became her retirement piece, however, this piece was the beginning
for the legacy she had left behind. In this reflection, the piece Together will be depicted for meaning
and described for content, structure, subject matter and form and furthermore be compared and
contrasted with another artwork, The Last Judgement by Gilbertus.

I want to draw attention to this piece because it resembles ideas and emotions, like I had
experienced with Together. The whole idea to this particular piece is that it was meant to speak
of a message. The message is in the title, so it was made to portray a last message to the people.
The Last Judgment is a stone sculpture that was placed in the beginning of church. It was meant
for people to see what the forms of an afterlife where they could end up if they belief in an
afterlife, which is a Christian belief. This would support the statement that both pieces of artwork
had a hidden message displayed through both of them. One has a message to the people of the
church, while the other piece speaks to a community in a particular

The Catacomb Saints
A 1578 discovery of tombs in Rome has many people baffled. The tombs have the skeletons of
Christian Martyrs who were considered saints because of their unwavering bravery and loyalty
to their faith. The skeletons were called the Catacomb Saints. The skeletons also had jewelry
wigs, crowns and armor. They were displayed in many churches in order to remind people that
riches await loyal Christians after they die. Even though this may sound like a strange story and
many people would have a hard time believing it, it is actually true. Paul Koudounaris, who was an
art historian, was very fascinated with the story of the saints. He traveled throughout Europe in
order to find the status of every saint. He also wrote a book about the skeletons entitled

The Cause of Globalization
Garrett / CAUSES OF GLOBALIZATION COMPARATIVE POLITICAL STUDIES / August
September 2000 The most important causes of globalization differ among the three major
components of international market integration: trade, multinational production, and international
finance. The information technology revolution has made it very difficult for governments to
control cross border capital movements, even if they have political incentives to do so.
Governments can still restrict the multinationalization of production, but they have increasingly
chosen to liberalize because of the macroeconomic benefits. Although the one time Ricardian gains
from freer trade are clear, whether trade is good for growth in the medium term is less certain. In
the case of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What are the causal relationships among these three trends? The second perspective, technological
determinism, contends that the shrinkage of time and space has been so dramatic and so pervasive
that there is essentially nothing that can be done to stop it. According to this view, technological
changes have propelled international economic activity, and governments have been largely
irrelevant. Thus, policy liberalization should be understood as governments acknowledging the
futility of trying to resist globalization, rather than acting as a prime mover behind market
integration. Management gurus such as Ohmae (1995) have propounded this view, and political
scientists such as Rosecrance (1999) and Strange (1998) use it as the starting point of their
analyses. The case for a technologically determined view of globalization is far stronger with
respect to international finance than to multinational production or trade. In the era of 24 hour
global trading in a seemingly limitless array of financial instruments, governments can only hope
marginally to influence control cross border liquid capital movements. In contrast, though 2. See

The Importance Of Nursing Professional Development
Introduction Nursing is a dynamic discipline with constant change. Practicing in such changing
professional context demands highly competent and safe care from nurses. This means that nurses
demonstrate ability to grow personally and professionally in order to remain relevant and informed
about new technology, evidence based practices, recent research within the nursing profession as
well as capacity to function multi culturally within diverse population. These expectations require
professional development. Nursing professional development has been defined as the lifelong
process of active participation by nurses in learning activities that assist in developing and
maintaining their continuing competence, enhance their professional practice, and support
achievement of their career goal (Kowitlawakul, 2013 p. 43). Nursing education or training does not
end at graduation but it is a lifelong learning. To ensure the delivery of evidence base and patient
centered care one has to stay current by taking courses, attending conferences, continuous online
CEUs and obtaining certification. Professional growth will benefit the nurse and the patient in
giving competent care. Church (2016) enumerated the consequences of nursing competence and
development to include improved patient outcomes, clinical judgement, accountability and
confidence. Church further asserts that an environment that emphasizes a culture of continuous
professional development is crucial, as it motivates nurses to develop their competence, improve
their work environment, and deliver quality patient care (p. E13). Professional development in
nursing enhance the knowledge, confident and skills of nurses in caring for patient; promotes
healthy work culture, high quality nursing care and positive patient outcome (Elder, 2017). In
this paper, I will be reviewing my professional history, growth, strategic plan now and for five to
ten years. My Professional History I started my nursing career in 2007, when I enrolled in
Massanutten Technical Center (MTC) for License Practical Nursing (LPN). I obtained my LPN
license shortly after taking my licensing examination in June 2009. I was not eligible to work

  • 2. A Family Affair In The King James Bible A Family Affair And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. ... And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man (King James Bible. Genesis. 2. 7 22). And so, God created the first family of many. While Adam and Eve had an idyllic relationship in the Garden of Eden, not all families can boast of a two parent household with a loving family dynamic. Both within the King James Bible, within other novels, and even within real life, each family has a different way of living and dealing with the situations that arise to try to tear them apart. Quite often, connections can be found between the everyday life of characters in novels, and the lives of those that are written into the Bible, to be forever remembered. Sibling arguments, not respecting thy father and mother, and transiency are a few of many ways the Bible can be used to understand what is occurring in the lives and families of the characters. And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord. And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground (Genesis. 4. 1 2). Cain and Abel were the first siblings in the story of Genesis, as Ruthie and Lucille are the first siblings to live in the house their grandfather built for a very long time. Fourth Industrial Revolution Essay The Fourth Industrial Revolution Soon, robots will be everywhere. They will be at your school, at your home, at the store, but not at work because they have taken your job. Nearly fifteen years after the Third Industrial Revolution, America is anxiously awaiting the upcoming Technological Revolution (properly known as The Fourth Industrial Revolution). They are fearful of such an advancement in technology, unlike the Chinese who have embraced such improvements with open arms. The central claim of the report is that the poorest people live in a context of recurrent cycles of violence whether criminal and political and in order to stop those cycles, legitimate institutions have to be implemented to ensure security, jobs and justice. The main idea then is to remodel institutions in order to reinforce people confidence. Those arguments are discussed by referring to the Post cold war political and criminal violence, with the explanation of their dramatic consequences on economic and social development. The report is influential in scope in a way that it attempts to rethink an international order but it is commonly critized that it provides only obvious conclusions and fails to engage with essential issues. Firstly, the bibliography is not representative of the vast existing literature about conflict, development and violence (Jones and Rodgers 2011).The majority of the literature mentioned is based on quantitative parallels between economic and political aspects and conflict. This goes against the World Bank claims that Our approach is multidisciplinary and draws on both quantitative and qualitative evidence (2011, p. 73). The lack of qualitative data is also apparent in the report s explanation that it structure is adequate with theories of violence in various disciplines with the use of box 3.4 page 104 that is based on the research of economists. Even tough they are prominent scholars in the violence and conflict debate; they are novice in this debate that emerged with classic figures that are not mentioned in the bibliography such as Machiavelli arguing that conflict contributes to the stability of the society (in Jones and Rodgers 2011, p.983). Hobbes is mentioned only once page 75. This is also the case for Tilly (2003) that is considered as one of the most prominent scholars that have studied the relation between violence and the state. The main idea in his work is about what work does violence and conflicts do and make a distinction between many types of violence, what the report does not. • 6. Three Taxonomic GroupsGas Exchange, Insects, Fish, And... gas exchange is the movement of oxygen and carbon dioxide gases across the membrane by diffusion. These can be found within the three taxonomic groups insects, fish and mammals. Each of these taxonomic groups all have different gas exchanges and adaptations to enable them to continue their way of life. In this report, I will discuss the three taxonomic groups gasexchanges, and adaptations to carry this out. insects The first taxonomic group is an insect. internal gas exchange systems connect individual cells, and tissues with the air outside, due to a system of branching tubes named trachea. insects contain air tubes, named trachea and tracheoles throughout their body. These tubes are held in shape by rings of chitin. Insects don t have a circulatory system as such, so the tracheoles are to reach each individual cell in the body, as they re relying on diffusion to take place to take in oxygen. At each end of the tracheole, a small amount of liquid is placed, allowing gasses to dissolve, and then diffuse into each of the cells. The tracheal system is efficient in maintaining a high metabolic rate. The places in which the tubes leave the body, are called spiracles. Spiracles have the ability to open and close, to control the water loss. When in need of lots of oxygen, or if the environment is moist, the spiracles begin to open. When they close or are slightly open, they re not in need of oxygen, or the environment is dry. Insects also ventilate their gas exchange ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Discouraging High Testosterone Levels In today s society, high testosterone levels are discouraged. In a world where we work in cubicles, where violence gets you sent to prison, and where we are required to swallow our pride, to do what we are told. Considering this, you could be led to believe that men are being poisoned intentionally. A conspiracy, that guarantees we conform to their standards, throughout our lives. Okay, before you dismiss me as a conspiracy theorist, take note that the Soviets were the first to add fluoride to the drinking water, in prisons. They wanted to decrease testosterone levels, and to make prisoners submissive. Considering testosterone is the driving force behind the courage of men, and I seriously doubt the warden had any concern with dental health. Now that you are ready to commit to a lifestyle that allows for the highest possible testosterone levels, what do you do? Detoxify First Detoxifying sounds a lot worse than it really is. There are no enemas, or expensive juicer diets. You just need to consume a form of sulfur, such as MSM, and zeolite. Both zeolite and MSM are fairly inexpensive, and found readily at health and wellness stores. Zeolite is formed when volcanic ash reacts with the surrounding rocks. This mineral has a regular, porous framework that allows filtering, based on size. This molecular sieve, catches toxic substances, with its characteristic structure, and allows the impurities to be excreted, in your urine. All research done on zeolite as a detoxifier, ... A: The fiefs under feudalism all contained basic structures that were essential in maintaining a fully sustainable community. Some basic structures include water mills, houses, barns, and workshops, all self explanatory. The three most important structures were the church, the manor, and a three field crop rotation complex. The manor was considered the brain of the fief, which provided shelter to the vassals and his staff, as well as a place for royal celebrations such as feasts. This was called Feudal Justice , and gave nobles the ability to create court cases to settle disputes between the defendants and the accused. These courts usually ended with the accused having to pay a fine, which brought considerable income to the nobles throne, however, ordeal by God and trial by combat were considered equally as effective in proving innocence. This system of justice brought the same political power of the feudal system itself, knights could not accuse the king, but peasants could call other peasants to be accused. Under this system, the daily lives of peasants could be brought into question, however, both the accused and the accuser would receive the same treatment, and if the accused was not found guilty, the accuser would receive the punishment. • 10. American Symbolism In Hills Like White Elephants Title In Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway, an American man exhibits control over his lover, Jig, as they talk at a train station. Stereotypical with the role of women, Jig lacks authority and control, not only in her relationship with the American, but in her day to day life, as shown in her inability to act independently. The American s conversational coercion instills Jig with a false sense of autonomy in the relationship, ultimately pigeonholing her into submission. Almost immediately, Jig is established not as an equal, but rather as the American s subordinate. While her partner is referred to as the American, and the waitress is referred to as the woman, Jig is only known as the girl throughout most of the story. This description demonstrates the man s control over Jig, distinguishing him as superior to his lover (Rankin). Jig s inferiority is further shown through her lack of independent identity, as she is instead characterized as an extension of her lover. This is displayed in her inability to even choose a drink for herself, relying on the American to decide for her What should we drink? the girl asked (1,Hemingway), and even speak for her. This action strips Jig of independence and control, in fact, her dependence on the American causes her to constantly seek for his approval: she changes the subject when he becomes... Max asked his superior for permission to begin publishing a magazine to spread word of the militia. He received permission, but no financial support. Max s youngest brother, Joseph, helped Max write the first issue of the magazine. They called it The Knight of the Immaculata or The Knight for short. James Fenimore Cooper s Impact On American Literature James Fenimore Cooper had a very interesting life, molded American literature, and influenced many popular authors, such as Herman Melville, Richard Henry Dana, Jr., Francis Parkman, and even Mark Twain, through his literary offenses. (1) The experiences Cooper had throughout his life shaped his rogue character and literary style. The evidence of Cooper s impact to American literature is well documented. James closest companion in boarding school was William Jay, the second son of governor John Jay. This foreshadowed James trickster attitude. By the age of thirteen, James entered Yale College. Some evidence to the claims of James rogue character surface during his time at Yale. • 13. Who s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf Analysis Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf by Edward Albee is a play that addresses a variety of failures through it s rather dysfunctional characters. Albee indicates the failures within American Society; The 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and the tensions between the East and the West. The political reflections by Albee are made through the characters of George and Nick, with George seemingly representing George Washington the first American president and Nick representing Nikita Khrushchev of the Soviet Union, as RoudanГ© notes this conflict was a terrible warning about the very precariousness of existence . It is a sense of warning which Albee explores through the presentation of his characters within the play and we too are made aware of the fragility of American Society. The most prominent failure within the play, however, could be argued to be the failure of gender stereotypes. Martha s opening line What a dump taken from the Bette Davis film Beyond the Forest . Acts as a summary of the entire play, her life is a metaphorical dump. The state of her house represents the failure of the nation and is presented as chaotic by Albee within the play. From the outset Martha does not fit with society s image of a woman, as Bottoms notes, Martha is a vindictive caricature of womanhood ,she enters the play with the word Jesus . Opening the play with profanity, something not appropriate for the ideal American housewife to say, establishes her as the plays pagan. Throughout the play ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then, modern policing began in the early nineteenth century. The element of professional is used because the officers at all levels in law enforcement dedicate their lives and time to their job so they are classified as professionals. Renewing the Mind Renewing the Mind I attempt to speak from personal experience as much as possible in addition to citing the opinions and facts of others, let me begin by stating that probably the most harmful pattern of the world is the judgment of others. It is true and I have witnessed firsthand the self esteem of many being cut down to mere nothingness by the judgment of others. Is it a crime to look different, talk different or be unique in our own special way? Through my examination of the New Age belief system I believe many in society see themselves as being the Lord of their own universe (Sire, 2009, p. 179) and I wonder does this flawed thinking lead to an overinflated ego and the harmful judgment of others? Critics argue both sides of this question; some stating that the movie, Schindler s List, trivializes the Holocaust; whereas, others defend the film. This paper will look at both sides of this argument; the positive side of Richard Kearney and the negative side of Claude Lanzmann. In regards to one positive critique of the film, Schindler s List, Richard Kearney believes that fiction can actually serve to bring out a truth that otherwise remains concealed (Kearney, 2012). This belief came about, during a talk in Montreal, when a woman Holocaust survivor came up to Kearney and said, You know, I was one of the survivors. I was on Schindler s list. I was never able to return to the experience, never able to revisit it, never able to talk about it, never able to think about it, remember it, until I saw the film. And when I saw the fictional account played by fictional characters, I was then and only then able to identify with myself as a real victim. Her words led Kearney to see Schindler s List as a positive cinematic portrayal of the Holocaust because it took fiction for her to be able to experience it for the first time (Kearney, 2012). ... • 33. Charles Mingus Essay Eddie K. Jazz 219 Charles Mingus Charles Mingus is a very important and influential name in jazz; however he is left out by many historians when talking about the history of jazz. The main reason he is left out by so many historians, Mark Gridley in particular, is because of his attitude and ego. He is clearly not the most pleasant person, and he surely does not display how a real jazz musician should act, at least according to most historians. The way he acts during performances can be quite startling at first, if you are not familiar with his ways and methods of playing. For example, he was known for using profanity during performances, either geared at the audience if they were being too loud or the sound operators if the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another chapter I would also include him in would be Chapter 5, How Swing Differs from Early Jazz . I would include Mingus in this chapter as well because it talks so much of his most influential Jazz artist, and at one point fellow band mate, Duke Ellington. I feel like Mingus truly does have enough variance in his music to help point out and draw the fine line between early jazz and the newer swing jazz. The main differences between these two categories of jazz are that in early jazz, you were a lot less likely to have the big band feel to the music, and soloist played a more important role in early jazz, whereas in the swing era, you were introduced to more of a variety of instruments as well as new techniques on how to play them. Mingus puts out good examples and songs/performances that clearly display how things transitioned from early Jazz to swing, and then onto other evolutions of jazz as well. After learning and hearing many of Charles Mingus s music, I definitely feel it is unfair for any historian to leave him out of an in depth jazz history book. I hope jazz book writers to come take note of Mingus s accomplishments, and start to include him in the history books right up there with Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and Louis Armstrong. It is only fair to him and his fellow band mates, however, only time will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The WHO estimates that 4070% of the global burden from this disease is attributable to sun exposure. A study conducted in Victoria reported that 43.6% of pterygium cases were attributable to sun exposure. * Age related macular degeneration: Based on laboratory studies showing thatUV rays cause retinal damage in rats, scientists believe that exposure to UV rays contributes to the degeneration of eyesight which occurs naturally with ageing. How UVR Impacts the Eye The various tissue layers of the eye absorb the wavebands of UVR to different extents. The longer the wavelength, the deeper the penetration of ocular tissue. Of the radiation from sunlight, UV B has the greatest impact on the eye. Overexposure can result in photokeratitis or, in rare cases, solar maculopathy. Studies show that chronic exposure to UV B can also cause cortical cataracts. UV A is considered a greater threat to produce skin cancer than damage the eye. While the ozone layer filters UV C from the sun, a welder s arc can generate toxic dosages of this potent waveband.

In her book History Matters: Patriarchy and the Challenge of Feminism, she argues that feminism and history, specifically women s, need to be more closely linked. This link, she argues, comes from taking theories and methods from one field and applying them to the other in order to create a more indepth analysis of both. Bennett states in her introduction that this text ...builds steadily from problem to solution to elaboration, and though this statement holds, due to the brevity of this book, many aspects of this text are not well defined, explored, or analyzed (4 5). Throughout this text, Bennett uses feminist language, and indeed the word feminism without properly defining the term. It is true that this book is aimed at an audience that is likely to known these terms. Yet, by not giving a definition Bennett opens the floor for radically different interpretations based upon where the reader s definition falls on the spectrum, from hating men and wanting female superiority to wanting equality and justice for all regardless of sex, that defines the various schools of feminism. Despite this lack of clarity, many of the arguments that Bennett makes are still valid. Specifically, Bennett notes that the language of feminist and women s history has changed from the biting and often uncomfortable rhetoric of 1970s feminism to more neutral ... Our conversations prompted some other questions about the background knowledge they had on sexual assault, and how the University talked about it versus how their prior schools had discussed the subject. It was interesting to get a male point of view on the topic because I, along with a lot of other women on campus, feel like they don t have to deal with the topic of sexual assault as much as we do. Especially with the required attendance of lectures and educationals on the subject for both the University and the Greek Life programs. I felt frustrated at times that we all wanted more information about the sexual assaults that have occurred on campus, but we obviously didn t want to information about the victim to become public knowledge as it is their private business. I would agree with a majority of the responses given to the questions, especially the discussion of the My Cup is Not My Consent campaign. As well intentioned as it was, that campaign is more a joke now, and we don t want to the University of Iowa to be unintentionally promoting rape jokes. I also think that the men on campus should be required to attend just as many sexual assault seminars as the women do. This issue should be just as much theirs as ours. Perhaps if everyone had a better understanding what to look for in potential sexual assault situations, then there would be less sexual assaults occurring on campus. ... Another pollutant that is given off by automobiles along with hydrocarbons is carbon monoxide. This too is also a result of the incomplete process of the combustion of fuel. Carbon monoxide is emitted directly from the tailpipe. There are specific times when this is common, when your car does not get enough air during starting and it chokes, when cars are not tuned properly, during cold weather the level of carbon monoxide being emitted increases due to more fuel to start the car, and also at high altitudes. The office of Mobile Sources did a study in 1992 which showed that carbon monoxide levels exceeded the Federal air quality standard in 20 U.S. cities . Some other pollutants besides hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide that are given off are nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxides. These nitrogen oxides are given off by the high pressure in the automobiles engine where nitrogen and oxygen atoms in the air react and then form the nitrogen oxide. What are the causal relationships among these three trends? The second perspective, technological determinism, contends that the shrinkage of time and space has been so dramatic and so pervasive that there is essentially nothing that can be done to stop it. According to this view, technological changes have propelled international economic activity, and governments have been largely irrelevant. Thus, policy liberalization should be understood as governments acknowledging the futility of trying to resist globalization, rather than acting as a prime mover behind market integration. Management gurus such as Ohmae (1995) have propounded this view, and political scientists such as Rosecrance (1999) and Strange (1998) use it as the starting point of their analyses. The case for a technologically determined view of globalization is far stronger with respect to international finance than to multinational production or trade.
