A Summary Of Truman Vote By Truman Capote
Although Truman Capote writes this narrative to tell about a murder, he must first describe and
enhance the victims to elaborate on their history; therefore, Capote enhances just how senseless
crimes can be.
Capotes tactic is driven by his empathy towards the event of the wronging that took place at the
Clutters house, he utilizes amplification to magnify how senseless the true crime was and to
describe the significance. Capote was much more focused on the development of the characters. He
draws the audience s attention to the Clutter family, specifically their positive characteristics
especially Nancy Clutter, Where she found the time, and still managed to practically run that big
house and be a straight A student, the president of her class, a leader in the 4 H program and the
Young Methodists League, a skilled rider, an excellent musician (piano, clarinet), an annual winner
at the county fair (pastry, preserves, needlework, flower arrangement) how a girl not yet seventeen
could haul such a wagonload, and do so without brag, with, rather, merely a radiant jauntiness, was
an enigma the community pondered... (Capote 18)
Amplifying Nancy Clutter in such way gives emphasis to the audience that the family was kind
hearted, they didn t deserve the senseless act of murder from the two strangers: Perry and Dick.
Capotes giving the description of Nancy s character through her actions gave a true message that
she helped others and was a leader, the Clutters were magnificent

The Political Beliefs Of The Shia And Shia
Sunni and Shia are part of the 1.6 billion followers of Muslims across the world. After all, Shia
are a minority group that have been recently attacked by Sunnis. Shias are being targeted and killed
for their beliefs. Yet, Sunni and Shia have many similar beliefs and customs, but their main
difference is based on who should be the political figure. When the Sunni and Shia chose different
political figures, they also came upon different ideology. Soon as the prophet Muhammad died in
the seventh century, he did not designate a political ruler after his death. Thus, the country was left
without an appointed figure leaving the Muslim community without a caliphate. Consequently, the
people had to decide who was going to be appointed as the leader of the Muslim community. The
Sunni believed that Abu Bakr should be the leader and was given the popularity of the vote, but
Shia believed that the family of the prophet should be the leader. Shia argued that only Aliwas
qualified to uphold the spiritual values that underpinned the whole future direction of Islam.
(Rogerson 5) The disagreement of who should be leader grew to the establishment of Shia, who
supported Ali. Shia believed that Ali should have been the first caliphinstead of Abu Bakr being the
first. Shia came to the conclusion that Sunni falsified hadith and Abu angered Fatima, in which
Fatima was part of Muhammad causing Shia to believe that he does not have right to become first
caliph. As a result, that left Sunni

Bar Codes
How Much Do Your Mistakes Cost?
Brittney Roper, R.N.
Southwestern Oklahoma State University
Introduction
Proper patient identification in hospitals has been an issue for many years, especially when it
comes to blood specimen collection. Laboratory specimens being mislabeled are a everyday cause
of harm to patients including repeat diagnostic procedures; repeat phlebotomy; delays in necessary
surgical procedures; a performing unnecessary surgical procedures (Dunn and Moga, 2010). This is
not only costly, but it is very stressing to patients and medical staff. The biggest concern is the
possibility of making a fatal error when it comes to specimen collection. Without proper patient
identification this risk increases substantially. Wallin, Sodberg, Van Guelpen, Stenlund, Grankvist,
and Brulin (2009) state that critical errors in patient identification for blood testing occurs in up to
one per 1000 specimens or procedures and misidentified specimens cause 160,000 adverse events
every year in America.
Bar coding has been introduced into many hospitals in the last several years. Using bar codes on
patients ID bracelets and labels for specimens has been the normal practice for Saint Francis
Hospital for some time. However, the labels aren t used as well as they should be to prevent errors
in patient care. According to Wickham, Miedema, Gamerdinger, and DeGooyer (2006),
implementing the use of bar codes for patient identification will prevent

Advertising Strategies In Advertising
Viktor drives a 2013 Dodge RAM. He realized he was wasting up to $1,000 in gas money a week so
he did a little car research. Two days later, he was driving down the freeway on his way home from
work. He glanced at a neatly placed billboard of a 2016 Prius with excellent mileage. The car
fascinated Viktor. He bought the car right away and traded in his gas chugging truck. Viktor was
happy and ready to use the money he will save on a vacation.
The ad industry is a necessary evil. This paper will examine how advertisements use marketing
strategies to reach the viewer s subconscious. To help prove my point, I will use the 2016 Toyota
Prius: Heck on Wheels advertisement. The advertisement starts with what is a content, organized,
single, middle aged man, momma s boy, with an indoor job, and drives a Prius singing to a
metal beat. The advertisements overall focus is to try to convince the audience that The All New
Prius is the new cool. It shows some safety features that come from driving the Prius. The driver
Todd Morgan approaches a gas station and shuns the other vehicles for needing to fill up gas it
shows the Prius saves a lot of gas. The advertisement is for the Average Joe . Some marketing
strategies used by this advertisement and advertisement companies include gender, social status, and
data mining.
Social status means the ranking one has in society. For example, the Kardashians have a very high
social status, a homeless heroin addict has a low social status. Todd

But knowing exactly where a shopper is in store opens up a wealth of other functions that will mean
their favourite device, the smartphone, will almost certainly be the retail brand s main
communications channel going forward.
1. They want to pay, not queue
Very soon, the retail customer is going to expect to be able to pay for any item anywhere in store.
Mobile payments systems are not limited to just PayPal or WorldPay, and retailers can now deploy
their own solution and link it to stock inventory control.
They could even use beacons as security devices beacon stickers are now small enough to be
embedded in packaging sending an alert when an item leaves the store that hasn t been paid for.
Unlike RFID tags, beacons can also be followed and tracked out of store, although there are
complications.

Fur Persuasive Speech
Topic: Wearing fur is not ethical
Opening/Attention:
While wearing fur clothing in cold weather as protection goes back to the stone age, the source for
this material came from the wild. Starting in the latter half of the 20th century, producers and
wearers of fur have been criticized by animal rights activists because of the perceived cruelty they
believe is involved in animal trapping and because of the availability of substitutes such as synthetic
fibers.

Be a Sales Superstar
Be a Sales Superstar
By: Brian Tracy
Dedication This book is dedicated to my dear friend and business partner Ib Moller, a great
entrepreneur, a superb sales professional, an excellent executive and a fine person in every way.
Preface This book is for ambitious salespeople who are eager to increase their sales and boost their
incomes immediately. It is written for those who are, or intend to be, in the top 10% of their
fields in selling. Every idea is aimed at the Sales Superstars of today and tomorrow. Salespeople
are primarily motivated by two things: money and status. They want to be paid well and they
measure their success by the size of their incomes relative to others. In addition, they want to be
recognized and appreciated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book is designed to give you practical insights that will enable you to make those jumps in
performance, to give you the winning edge. Here is another key idea for success: your weakest
important skill sets the height at which you can use all your other skills, and determines your
income. In other words, if you are poor in a key skill area like prospecting, or closing, that one
weakness alone will determine your sales results and how much you earn. A single deficiency in
your ability can hold you back from succeeding, no matter how good you might be in every other
area. Put another way, it is your strengths that have brought you to where you are today, but it is
your weaknesses that are now holding you back from progressing further and faster. This book is
designed to give you specific tools you can use to overcome any critical weaknesses you may
have, first by identifying them, and second, by giving you practical exercises you can apply
immediately to strengthen yourself in that area. This book deals simultaneously with both the inner
game of selling, the mental component, and the outer game of selling, the methods and techniques
of actually making the sale. When you begin to improve in both areas simultaneously, both your
sales and your self confidence will increase at a rapid rate. Only small differences in attitude and
ability separate the top salespeople from the average. When you learn and apply the 21 Great Ways

The Theory Of Sterilization Of Minorities By Supporting...
Throughout history, many people have consistently tried to prove that groups with inborn qualities
can either vastly improve or degenerate different races over time. This rhetoric has been proven
multiple times throughout the course of the last century in the United States and Nazi reigned
Germany. Supposedly, this rhetoric has been disproven throughout the United States; however,
there are proven accounts that the United States government has recently supported this theory of
sterilization of minorities by supporting the eugenicsmovement. This movement was not only
practiced in Nazi Germany, but also on United States soil. The topic of improving the genetic
makeup of different races has not only just become a common theme for many modern day
countries to use to make their societies more genetically fit. However, it has adopted the basis for
current racismthat is clearly apparent in today s society. If improving genetic fitness was not a
concern to past societies, then people in general would be more open to interracial and cross
cultural relationships rather than completely disregarding the idea of dating someone that is visibly
genetically different. Historically speaking, Americans and the United States government have
consistently had many issues of not recognizing their faults towards current situations that could
potentially be avoided. For example, the War on Terror and the Black Lives Matter movement are
just a few events that have impacted the country

Ten Most Influential Weapons through History
Weapons and tools are two things that separate us from other species. The use of weapons against
each other or and foe has forcefully dictated the outcome of history as we know it. Weapons have

Bronze is a more suitable substance for casting as well, so metal workers could mold swords of

every army up into the early 20th century. The bronze sword s use is recognized in Ancient Egypt
from the first dynastic period(protodynastic, Naqada III) until the era of the New Kingdom. The
bronze sword was used all around the ancient world in places like China until 200 B.C E.when
iron swords were adopted widely. One widely known Iron Age sword is the Hispanic Sword, more
commonly known as the Gladius. The Gladius was constructed of steel and was made for thrusting

History and brought the empire its wealth, land mass, and reputation.Even though the Roman

Word Count: 298 Introduction
Aim:
With a population in excess of 1,000,000 people and over 40 different wards and constituencies,
Birmingham is generally regarded as the second city of the United Kingdom. Within Birmingham,
each ward must vote for their individual party counsellor who may be representing the Labour,

different levels of qualification and household income throughout Birmingham has any effect on the
party counsellor chosen for that specific ward. I will be investigating; what factors have an effect
on levels of qualification and income and how these levels of income and qualification influence
the overall political status of a Birmingham ward.
Research Question:
To what extent does the relationship between levels of qualification and income, influence the
political status of different Birmingham wards?

Minimal Risk
What We Know About Minimal Risk In the determination of risk, there are two major
components for IRBs to consider (BCEHI, 2013). The first component is the risk that may result
from research, as distinct from the risks that may be associated with the therapies that participants
would endure if they were not participating in research (U.S. Department of HHS). For example,
in the calculation of risk for a study that is measuring the effects of a brain operation on memory
for the purpose of epilepsy relief, only the risks associated with the memory test should be
considered by the IRB (U.S. Department of HHS). Thus, some research studies can present minimal
risk even when higher risks are associated with the therapeutic procedure (U.S. Department... Show

Vulnerability factors include, but are not limited to, the participant s mental, emotional, and
cognitive capacity, socio economic status, age, and the existence of power relationships (BCEHI,
2013). As the federal regulation title 45 CFR part 46.111(b) stipulates: When some or all of the
subjects are likely to be vulnerable to coercion or undue influence, such as children, prisoners,
pregnant women, mentally disabled persons, or economically or educationally disadvantaged
persons, additional safeguards have been included in the study to protect the rights and welfare of
these subjects. However, the National Research Council (2014) asserts that because this definition
does not differentiate between social and research vulnerabilities, this definition encourages IRBs to
estimate the research harms faced by any population considered to be vulnerable. Therefore, the risk
caused by the vulnerability of a group should be examined in conjunction with the specific risks
posed by the research (Fisher Goodman, 2009). This relationship between the continuum of risk
level and participant vulnerability, which can be used to determine if a study may require full IRB
review, is provided in Figure 1. This means that when a study s potential risk is being assessed, the
harm that may be caused by the actual research participation and the harm that may be caused by
the situation or participant characteristics should be uniquely contemplated (National Research
Council, 2014). Thus, the current paper advocates for the integration of considerations on the
potential harm caused by the research procedures in conjunction with participants

welfare checks to be given to them. It s obvious that Arleen does depend on welfare checks,
however she s not unemployed like the book says. Taking care of children is a job in its own, so
the blame for single mothers dependency on welfare check lies with the loss or abandonment of the
father. Fathers who abandon their kids are the reason why we ve noticed the feminization of poverty
. With more and more moms being abandoned they must to pay an unfair amount of rent, food for

Current biological research investigations show that both lemon and lime juices have an affect on
slowing down and potentially stopping the growth of Escherichia Bacteria by creating an inhibition
zone. This can be seen in an experimental report done by Dr. Zahra Muhsin Ali Antagonism activity
of citrus fruit juices on some pathogenic bacteria. The experiment was conducted in the Biological
Department of Science at Kufa University to determine the antagonism activity of both Lemon and
Lime juices against various bacterium, one of them being E. Coli. The results of the experiment
revealed that each juice concentration had inhibiting effects against bacteria due to the presence of
citric acid and some volatile oils. The results also showed a reduction in the value of pH. The
investigation was further proved successful due to both juices from lemon and lime were found to
have inhibited the E. Coli bacterium parameter with an inhibition zone ranging from 8 29mm which
can be seen in figure 4. The antagonism effects of the lemon and lime juice was compared with the
antagonism effects of some antibiotics, the results being that the isolated E. Coli was resistant to
the majority of antibiotics. Proving that overall the experiment conducted was successful

The Role And Responsibilities Of The Nurse
As the nurse leader progresses through the strategic planning process, he or she must take into
consideration the financial costs and timeline required to implement their strategic plan.
Developing an operational budget and a realistic timeline are critical elements in ensuring the
strategic plan is successfully implemented (Lee Jones, 2004). Financial Resources For many years
now, healthcare organizations in Canada have faced financial challenges as a result of lower
healthcare spending and increased expenses (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2014,
para.1). Therefore, before the introduction of any new initiative, the nurse leader must ensure the
change does not bring any financial hardship to the organization and resources are used in a cost
effective manner (Marquis Huston, 2015). For this planned change, there is no financial cost with
revising the role and responsibilities of all the Nurse Clinicians and the existing budget is the
financial resource that will cover the cost of adding another Nurse Clinician The largest financial
aspect of this planned change is the salary of the new Nurse Clinician. In this case, when creating
another role the nurse manager has to ensure the change will be cost neutral to the organization,
meaning the addition of one Nurse Clinician will have no impact on the overall budget. To
accomplish this, the nurse manager responsible for the Clinicians explained that when the unit
assessors were doing the MDS, every unit in

Comparison Of Isaac And Jephthah s Daughter
When examining the stories of Abraham s willingness to sacrifice Isaac, and Jephthah s sacrifice
of his daughter there are similarities. For instance, both Isaac and Jephthah s daughter were both
only children, and both were willing participants. However, there are also distinct differences as to
how both of these sacrifices initiated. The story of Isaacs sacrifice starts with Godtesting Abraham
s by telling him to take his son to Moriah and to offer him as a burnt offering (Authorized King
James Version, Genesis 22:1 2). Furthermore, upon arrival Abraham goes the process of the
sacrifice, but tells Isaac that God will provide the lamb (AKJV, Genesis 22:8). The complete
obedience and faith that Abraham displayed was the reason that God spared Isaac as per their
covenant.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, before being willing to lead Gilead he had to be assured that he would become their
captain (AKJV, Judges 11:8 11, Tullock, McEntire, 2012). The third difference was Abraham
simply followed God s instructions, while Jephthah seemingly takes his time sending numerous
messages to the King of Ammon (AKJV, Judges 11: 12 28). Finally, the vow Jephthah makes
appears to be Jephthah s doing rather than Gods, and as this is likely a suzerainty covenant
Jephthah was obliged to uphold his end of the bargain (Wilcox, 2014). The basis of this premise
is backed by the passage ...for I have opened my mouth unto the Lord, and I cannot go back.

To the extent it affects them varies on the company. The products manufactured by companies can
become non useful or not as in demand as they were before. The lack of productivity is another
reason for downsizing. A last few deciding factors are the government deregulating certain
industries and excessive overhead costs. Based on a 1997 survey by the American Management
Association, the most often claimed reasons for downsizing are organizational restructuring,
business downturn, and reengineering of business processes. However, downsizing basically comes
down to one issue that all of these factors stem from, money. When a company does not have any
money or not enough, it causes problems in the company. In Downsizing Without Disaster, Lynn
Tylczak states that everything takes money, and without it a company cannot survive (4 7).
A corporation needs to have a strategic plan in place in order for them to be able to implement a
downsizing. There are many pros and cons to downsizing and it has a ripple effect on everyone
in the corporation. Depending on the planning of the downsizing, one of the big issues to decide
on is how to choose who will be terminated. For example, do you go by seniority, a percentage
from all departments, an entire department, or by job level or position? These are major options
that need to be addressed before anything happens. Most corporations today exist less for the well
being of employees than they

Fracking And The Natural Gas Production
Fracking isn t a word that most people are familiar with unless they are well informed or active in
local government or natural gas extraction. Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, involves extracting
natural gas from shale formations underground (Collier, Galatas, Harrelson Stephens, 2008). During
the process known as fracking, millions of gallons of water are shot underground into shale
formations to help bring the natural gastrapped inside the formations to be released so that it can
surface and become available for extraction. This is the technique that is used for traditional
fracking methods. Although fracking increases the states natural gas production, it also carries
some negative side effects that are affecting the state and its people. When most people think of
Texasthey think of the booming oil industry that the state has. According to our textbook, Texas
accounts for almost one third of the country s natural gas production and holds almost almost a
quarter of the country s natural gas reserves. Texas has greatly invested in the recourses that are
found within the state which makes gives the state a huge economic advantage. When fracking is
used to help turn out even larger quantities of natural gas, the economic impact is huge. If the state
greatly invested in fracking sites and the use of both traditional and horizontal fracking, the
economic gain in the near future could be huge. The state could be turning out twice the amount of
natural gas as it is

Explain How Are Gradients Important In Diffusion And Osmosis
Questions to Ponder:
What is kinetic energy and how does it differ from potential energy?
Kinetic energy is the energy of motion, however potential energy is the energy that is stored.
What environmental factors affect kinetic energy and diffusion?
Factors like temperature, surface area, and salinity affect kinetic energy and diffusion.
Why do these factors alter kinetic energy and diffusion?
Temperature increases kinetic energy of the molecules, facilatating faster diffusion of particles as
particles now have a greater speed and thus more readily diffuse across the membrane. Higher
surface area allows for greater diffusion as more particles can enter at once with more room in
which to enter. Higher salinity means more particles within ... Show more content on

How are gradients important in diffusion and osmosis?
Without gradients, diffusion and osmosis would not be possible. This is because diffusion is the
movement of particles down concentration gradients and osmosis is the diffusion of water, which
means they both require gradients to function.
What is the explanation for the fact that most cells are small and have cell membranes with many
convolutions?
Higher surface area to volume ratio as being small minimizes volume and having many folds
maximizes surface area. With a higher surface area, greater diffusion rates can occur as there is a
larger area for nutrients and water to pass through.
Will water move into or out of a plant cell if the cell has a higher water potential than the
surrounding environment?
Because substance move from high concentration to low concentration, water will go out of the cell
and into the surrounding environment.

Technology vs Organic Essay example
Humanity s timeline illustrates the past, present and future of human beings; commencing nearly
200,000 years ago when Homo sapiens first diverged from its ancestors (Evans,1998). For the next
188,000 years humans were content to forge and live within the constructs of a hunter gatherer
societal organization. Approximately 12,000 years ago agricultural systems began appearing in
various places around the world. An astonishingly short period of time later the Agricultural
Revolution transformed human ecology, social organization, demography, culture, and religion

The pronounced change from hunting and gathering to agriculture and domestication can be
simplistically designated the Agricultural or Neolithic Revolution (Pringle:1998). The catalytic
developments of the Neolithic Revolution mark a major turning point in the history of humankind.
The resulting animal and plant domestication established the foundation on which modern
civilization was built. Agriculture is a uniquely human activity and is perhaps the п¬Ѓrst activity
for which humans developed technology. Technology, understood as the use of farming tools and
techniques, is an indispensable component in agriculture. In the most general sense, technology
permits humans to increase the capture and efficient utilization of solar radiation that drives
primary plant production that is the basis of the human food and п¬Ѓber chain (Porter, Rasmusen:
2009). The steadfast characterization of human nature can be viewed as a historical constant,
while the prevailing woes and dilemmas facing humanity can be viewed as a contemporary
variable. Similarly to an algebraic equation, clever manipulation of the variable and constant
portion can lead to discovering the value of the variable or as in the case of humanity; it can

Similarities Between Of Mice And Men
John Steinbeck is considered one of the great American authors. His novels centered on the
American landscape, particularly California. John Steinbeck s 1937 novel, Of Mice and Men, is
a classic American novel about two ranch workers who struggle to keep their dream alive. In
1992, a MGM film adaptation directed by Gary Sinise was created. As with all book to film
adaptations, many people debate over which work is better. Some say that the book is better
because it creates a mood of darkness within the reader. Although both works convey their themes
well, Steinbeck s novel has more emotional impact on readers due to its setting and mood. The
novel s setting exceeds the film s because it is meaningful and symbolic. The author utilizes the

Characters are presented differently scene to scene to change the reader s perspective of them.
For example, in the film Curley s wife is depicted as a lonely housewife who is desperate to
leave her husband. Although this characterization is accurate, the novel provides a more
complex view of her because it shows how her frustration manifests itself in her treatment of
others. One instance of her pent up anger hurting others is when she verbally attacks Crooks.
She declares, Listen, Nigger... You know what I can do to you if you open your trap?...you keep
your place, Nigger. I could get you strung up on a tree so easy it ain t even funny (Steinbeck, 79).
This moment of cruelty shows that Curley s wife has been corrupted by the evil of the world.
She hurts those who are lower than her on the social hierarchy because she believes doing so
will make people respect her. This shows that she is deeply insecure of her place in the world. The
reader comes to hate Curley s wife, until they learn more about her life. She monologues about her

Abstract This paper presents unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) which is an integration of
shunt and series Active Power Filters and aims to compensate for voltage sag, voltage and
current unbalance and other power quality problems [1],[5],[6]. The UPQC helps to improve
power quality at the point of installation on power distribution system or industrial power system.
This paper deals with design of UPQC by considering a controller based on PQ theory. Reference
signal generation for shunt active filter is done by using PQ theory while for series dual PQ
theory is used [2], [3]. Reference signals are then applied to pulse generators. Pulse generation is
carried out by using hysteresis band controller for each filter. The validation of proposed scheme is
carried out by using Matlab/Simulink.
Index Terms Unified Power Quality Conditioner, Active Power Filter, hysteresis control, voltage
and current unbalance.

Examples Of Failure In Life
How to Fail in Life If there is one thing that every human being is guaranteed, it is a lifetime of
suffering, regrets, embarrassment, and, most importantly, failure. No one is perfect. In fact, our
culture embraces this ideology. There is a sense of comfort in knowing that you are not alone in
your flaws. So why even try to succeed in life? Instead, learn these precise techniques and methods
to fail in life.
The first step at failing in life is to not make the best use of your time. Work, pressure, school and
many more aspects of life take too much time and effort. The average person spends most of their
weekday working on something for at least eight hours. That happens to be at least one third of the
day going to something that would most likely not make your day better. How about we ... Show

As we have previously established, you are not perfect, and will never be anywhere close to
perfection. And that is perfectly okay. Once you have established this belief, it is also important to
never believe in any of your dreams. If you accept that you will never graduate from college, or
acquire your dream career, or marry your soul mate, or live a generally happy life, then you will
not have to suffer any disappointment. Furthermore, this lack of self confidence will prevent
you trying to accomplish a goal or overcome an obstacle. This is an essential key to failing in
life. As you can see, there are many ways to fail in life and many reasons to do so. Making the
best use of your time ensures that you are number one priority in your life and that you use it on
something that could benefit you the most. Sometimes in life, one must learn to give up and not try
to make things more complex for them by doing things that they know they could not bear. One
must get used to fearing life itself to prevent oneself from making bad decisions that would haunt

Stereotypes In Black Men And Public Space
Stereotypes are born from fear and ignorance. They are used to wrongly judge an individual or
group. Brent Staples, a black man, is no stranger to this. Black Men and Public Space, written by
Staples, he discusses his experiences as a black man; often being mistaken as a criminal because
of his appearance. Most people see his universal identity and not who he really is. Living in the
city of Chicago as a black man, he is frequently categorized as a thug or aggressor. The purpose of
his essay is to inform the readers about how it feels to be the one who is stereotyped, as well as
to express his discontent of being type casted. As a result of the negative stereotypes involving
black men, Staples has the capacity to negatively alter the space he is in by causing others to fear
him. Equivalently, many people also fear cops because of the stigma they have. Because of this,
the police negatively impact the space they are in. In the article, What Happens When Black People
Learn They Should Fear the Police , Jesse Singal discusses how police brutality has affected the
black community s trust in the police.
Staples often faces stereotypes because of his threatening physical appearance. In fact, during his
night strolls most women he came in contact with would hide their purses and others would walk
towards the opposite side as him. Women in particular are often the ones who fear him. Staples
does not deny the fact that women are the most vulnerable to street violence, and young

Happiness In Silas Marner
Happiness can be found by going down many avenues; some created through love and connections,
and others through greed and petty implements used to fill voids of the soul. Throughout the book,
Silas Marner goes down many of these avenues to create happiness within himself. He first gained
the prized emotion in Lantern Yard through religion, but when he loses that through tragedy, he
obsessively tries to obtain enough gold to fill the void. However, when Eppie comes into his life,
Silas soon learns that love, community, and family connection is what brings true happinessto him.
In Lantern Yard, Marner was a very active member in the church and community. When
described as a brother of the church, he was said to be a young man of exemplary life and ardent
faith (Eliot 6). The particular choice of adjectives used to describe his faith in the Lord supports
in full how content Marner is in this life when he is involved in his religion. Use of the word
ardent , meaning enthusiastic and passionate, to describe his faith are how those experiencing
utter content are portrayed as. Another adjective used to create expression is exemplary ,
meaning serving as a perfect model. This proves the claim of Silas happiness because nobody
would want to be like a man who is isolated and sorrowful. So, it is by passionate faith that Marner
realizes happiness.
When tragedy strikes, Marner is stripped of his faith and community. He resorts to greed in a
desperate attempt to fill the void

Jane Austen s Novel And True Classic Sense And Sensibility
There are many authors whose works are considered to be classics; perhaps the most influential is
Jane Austen. Jane Austen wrote six novels, that in today s world, we call classics. Her first novel
and true classic Sense and Sensibility, was published in 1811 at a time when the world was just
starting to write full length novels. Though Jane Austenonly lived to be forty one, she contributed
much too modern literature; such as being one of the first major authors to make use of the three
volume novel, and to use chapters within the volumes (Sweeton). One of the many reasons as to
why Jane Austen s novels are considered classics is due to the fact that she wrote about real
social and financial issues of the day; however, financial and social issues are timeless, therefore
they are still relevant in today s world. As one follows along with the Dashwood sisters in Sense
and Sensibility, we see how the title of the story is very fitting; by providing one sister with sense
and the other with sensibility, the story has two different dynamics that create a timeless classic.
Born in 1775, Jane Austen grew up in a time when the dynamics of the world were constantly
changing. Jane Austen was born in Steventon a village of Hampshire England, to a large family
that consisted of seven other children (Jane Austen). Having an interest in writing since a young
age, one of her first works of writing was a novella titled Lady Susan, a story written in epistle form

Norwegian Black Metal
Norwegian Black Metal Music has a lot of ability to affect human emotions in special ways
among the arts. Music can connect people to one another, and it can also connect people to
whatever they hold sacred. Geertz wanted to know how religion function in a society. To him,
religion consists of symbols that had meanings for ideas, values and lifestyles of a society. Black
metalis one of those. In this, I will be discussing how Satanism came into a music genre call black
metal that was started in Norway and how it is a movement and not a controversy like most
people think. Norwegian Black Metal is a sub genre of heavy metal, which was started in the
1980s in England. It received its name from a band called Venom when they released their second
album called Black Metal and its lyrics focused on anti Christian and Satanic themes. Black metal is
a synonym for Satanic metal because they express harsh anti Christian and other anti religion views.
They then influenced a lot of other bands to take after what they were doing. They influenced one
of the major bands called Hellhammer. Everyone said they made raw and vicious music with
Satanic lyrics that later influenced the black metal. They influence a lot of main bands, Mayhem
and Darkthrone. Some also believe that Euronymous goes their name from Hellhammer s track
Eurynomos. Ever hear of Euronymous, Count Grishnackh or Hellhammer? Maybe not? What about
Mayhem, Darkthrone or Burzum? Is there a light then? Or maybe eight

Pagodas
Pagodas are a well known kind of architectural building that is located all throughout the country of
China. Pagodas have a rich history to China as well, and they have been built all throughout
Chinese history, as many look unique and different, due to their respective dynasties having major
differences in how they built them. While other countries also have pagodas, we will be focusing
only on China s. The first type of pagoda that is considered to be one of the earliest known is
called the close eaved pagoda. A prime example of this pagoda is located at the Chongyusei
Temple in Dengfeng County in the Henan Province of China. The pagoda has twelve sides, built
entirely out of blue bricks, and stands at forty one meters tall while containing fifteen close
eaves. It was built in 523 A.D., and it has ten floors with octagon shaped rooms that are
connected by wooden stairs. It could be speculated that the pagoda was built in a special way, as
it came before concrete was dreamed of, and it is still standing after many years. The next type of
Chinese pagoda is the commonly seen tower pagoda, in which many visitors can climb up upon
them for better views. In Yingxian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Government Intervention In The Market System
Discuss the case for and against government intervention in an economy.
In most of the countries, the government has intervened in the market system. To some extent there
is a dire need of government intervention in the market system, although there is a debate over this
point among the economists. Many economists believe that the role of government intervention
improves the market system. The government can easily enforce the rules that can help in the
smooth functioning of the market system. On the other hand, there are economists who believe that
government interventions in a market system are the reason of inefficiency in the system.

Information failure occurs when people have inaccurate, incomplete, uncertain or misunderstood
data and so make potentially wrong choices. Government action can have a role in improving
information to help consumers and producers value the true cost and/or benefit of a good or
service. Examples might include: * Compulsory labeling on cigarette packages with health
warnings to reduce smoking * Improved nutritional information on foods to counter the risks of
growing obesity * Anti speeding television advertising to reduce road accidents and advertising
campaigns to raise awareness of the risks of drink driving * Advertising health screening
programmes / information campaigns on the dangers of addiction
Another advantage of government intervention is the national minimum wage. The national
minimum wage was introduced into the UK in 1999. It is an intervention in the labour market
designed to increase the pay of lower paid workers and thereby influence the distribution of income
in society. In October 2005, the value of the minimum wage for adults was ВЈ5.05 following a
series of small increases over recent years.
The main aims of the minimum wage 1. The equity justification: That every job should offer a fair

A Clean Well-Lighted Place Essay
In A Clean Well Lighted Place by Ernest Hemingway, there are characters in the story that has
some conflicts with each other. The conflict is based on the young waiter and the older waiter.
There are three reasons how they bump heads with each other. The first reason is how the author
s main purpose deals with these two conflicts. The second reason is because of the way the
young is dealing the story. The final reason is the way the old is dealing with the story. Although
there are some similarities in this story, but there are some differences between the young verses
the old. First and foremost, the author s main purpose dealing with the young verses the old in the
story. The author discussed the views of an older person with a younger person. In this case, the
people that he used were the younger and the older waiter. The older waiter was one of the main
characters in this story that the author used to describe the main purpose of his writing. The waiter
stated in A Clean Well Lighted Place that the younger waiter could not stand up with dignity, that he
was nothing of a man, and that it was nothing that the young waiter knew too well (Hemingway 5).
The author basically pointed out that the meaning of the story is that the young rushes and is not

was in a huge rush to get home to his wife and family because he did not want to wait until the
deaf old man got done drinking. He was very impatient to the point he was having a confrontation
with the older waiter that was understanding why the deaf man was acting the way he was. Being

How To Write An Informative Speech On Barbie
Barbie
Purpose statement: The purpose of this speech is to inform the audience about Barbie.
INTRODUCTION: I. Did you know in every second of everyday, two Barbie dolls are sold
somewhere in the world? A. Barbie was invented in 1959 by Ruth Handler. B. She was
introduced to the world at the American Toy Fair in New York City. II. Barbie has been an
important part of the toy fashion doll market for fifty years. A. She has been the subject of
numerous controversies and lawsuits, often involving parody of the doll and lifestyle. B. In recent
years, Barbie has faced increasing competition from the Bratz range of dolls.

III. ControversiesA. Barbie s popularity ensures that her effect on the play of children attracts a
high degree of scrutiny. The criticisms leveled at her are often based on the assumption that
children consider Barbie a role model and will attempt to emulate her. 1. One of the most
common criticisms of Barbie is that she promotes an unrealistic idea of body image for a young
woman, leading to a risk that girls who attempt to emulate her will become anorexic. A standard
Barbie doll is 11.5 inches tall, giving a height of 5 feet 9 inches at 1/6 scale. Barbie s vital
statistics have been estimated at 36 inches (chest), 18 inches (waist) and 33 inches (hips).
According to research by the University Central Hospital in Helsinki, Finland, she would lack
the 17 to 22 percent body fat required for a woman to menstruate. In 1965 Slumber Party Barbie
came with a book entitled How to Lose Weight which advised: Don t eat. The doll also came with
pink bathroom scales reading 110 lbs., which would be around 35 lbs. underweight for a woman 5
feet 9 inches tall. In 1997 Barbie s body mold was redesigned and given a wider waist, with Mattel
saying that this would make the doll better suited to contemporary fashion designs. 2. In March
2000 stories appeared in the media claiming that the hard vinyl used in vintage Barbie dolls

How To Write An Essay On Puerto Rico
This week with it being cold here in Omaha, I thought of a warm place in the Caribbean. It has
crystal blue waters, white sand beaches, great attractions, impressive scenery, nightlife, gambling,
fishing, cultural experiences, friendly locals, golf and hiking. I discovered you could find
affordable top ranked vacations in the Caribbean. Some of the hot spots there are Jamaica, U.S
Virgin Islands, Barbados, Puerto Rico, Dominica, and Punta Cana. I am going to talk about Puerto
Rico since it seems like an amazing vacation for travelers.
I found one of the best things to do in Puerto Rico are the caves one is called Parque de las
Cavernas del RГo Camuy. When you arrive at the park you take a tram ride down to a 180 foot
high cave filled with a variety of wildlife, including crabs, tarantulas and bats. You also spot
plenty of stalactites, stalagmites and one of the largest subterranean rivers. It was rated a 3.4 top
attraction by visitors because of long wait times so arrive early to avoid long wait times. Have
your clients check the forecast before planning their itinerary to go see the cave, because it closes

Role Of Sacrifice In The Odyssey
The last personal quality that Odysseus has used to guide him through the long trip is his
method of bravery. His ability to fight for survival in the sea and on land has become one of his
braveness. Without bravery he would ve been killed in the beginning of the story like all his men
did. But, their sacrifice combining with their braveness has influence him to survive without them.
For example, when they had to finish their mission of winning the Trojans in the City of Troy,
They believed that they had survived ten years of fierce fighting and were now ready to accept the
Achaeans s peace offering. After a day and night of celebration, the Trojans collapsed into a state of

The Trojan Warwas over. When Troy was in ruins, Odysseus rescued the statue of Athene [the

a clever plan of building a gigantic statue of a horse that would defeat the Trojan once and for all
however, it was a risky choice to make because if their enemies find out that the Trojan Horse
that the Greeks developed was a trick to enter their city then their lives would be in complete
danger once they enter the wall beyond the City of Troy. Each individuals including Odysseus

Understanding Cash Flows and Capital Budgeting Decisions
When evaluating cash flows for determining whether or not to pursue constructing a building to
manufacture cupcakes there are several things to consider. The most important would be looking at
a Grammy s incremental after tax cash flow. Then one needs to determine the projects initial outlay,
the differential cash flows over the project s life, and the terminal cash flow. Also what needs to be
looked at is what is the net present value and its internal rate of return.

Why or Why Not?
Yes it should be accepted. The construction of the building should be accepted. This is because the
net present value is greater than one and the NPV is a positive number. This means that the
construction project creates value and wealth. Also the internal rate of return is greater than the
required rate of return. This means the project will be a benefit to Grammy s company.
Genesis 47:18 19 (KJV), states, When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year,

bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and

Disadvantages Of Derivative Contracts
DERIVATIVE is a transaction or contract whose value depends on or, as the name implies,
derives from the value of underlying assets such as stock, bonds, mortgages, market indices, or
foreign currencies. One party with exposure to unwanted risk can pass some or all of the risk to
a second party. The first party can assume a different risk from a second party, pay the second
party to assume the risk, or, as is often the case, create a combination. Derivatives are normally
used to control exposure or risk.
DERIVATIVECONTRACT is, generally, a financial contract the value of which is derived from
the values of one or more underlying assets, reference rates, or indices of asset values, or credit
related events. Derivative contracts include interest rate, foreign exchange rate, equity, precious
metals, commodity, and credit contracts, and any other instruments that pose similar risks. ... Show

Competitive Intelligence
The course lecturer will have argued that strategy without intelligence isn t strategy, its guessing .
Some managers however take the view that a competitive strategy that is rigorously developed
around a strong set of product/service offerings, regardless of rivals intentions, plans, and actions,
will, in any event, win the day . Your task is to defend, through evidence and argument one of these
two (or alternative) views.
1. Introduction
In the 1960s and 1970s, firms across the world faced little foreign competition from each other and
corporate strategy simply consisted of focusing on new product development to meet the increasing
demand from expanding middle classes. In recent times, world growth has slowed, ease of trade ...

Whilst this practice of understanding what the competition is doing has been integrated into the
organisational culture of many leading companies today, competitive intelligence has come some
way. Its benefits were long understood in Germany as far back as the eighteenth century. By
scouting the European Continent, the Germans discovered they could compete with British and
French firms by applying foreign scientific adv ances to their own industrial processes. This
allowed them to develop their own base of education and research as a foundation for technological
innovation leading to the ownership of many international rights to formulae and processes,
particularly in che micals (Rouach and Santi
2001).
Japan was also an early pioneer in terms of grasping of the importance of competitive intelligence.
It opened up to external influences after two centuries of self imposed seclusion after the American
invasion of 1854. Rulers in the decade that followed encouraged policies of community, nationalism
and modernisation with the intention of enabling Japan to compete with the West by absorbing the
latter s best practices (Rouach and Santi 2001).
Following the end of World War Two, Japan converted its military espionage capability into a
system of economic intelligence, for example, in the early 1950s, tens of thousands of market
researchers were sent around the world to assess the potential

Ten Years Ago A Journalist With The New York Times Committed
Ten years ago a journalist with the New York Times committed plagiarism on an article.
Moreover, it was later found he previously committed plagiarism before that while employed in
other writing capacities. Blair attended the University of Maryland where he studied journalism.
He interned at The New York Times in 1998 and offered an extended internship. However, he
declined the offer of the extended internship to complete more courses before graduating (Bailey,
2008). In 1999 Blair returned to The New York Times
as an intermediate reporter . Moreover,
according to 30 staff members on The times a letter signed by them in 2003 reported that Blair
made four serious errors as a writer and editor that brought his integrity into question... Show more

Also, it was later found that Blair s time at prior journalist jobs, as well as, his college newspaper
showed similiar questionable behavior, but The Times ignored Blair s potential for use of
unethical journalism methods (Bailey, 2008). In addition, it was later found that Blair s senior
editor warned Blair a number of times about possible plagiarism. However, for whatever reason
The Times ignored these warning, stating that they placed complete trust in its employees. In fact
The Times compared the paper to other entities replying, like Every newspaper, like every bank
and every police department, we trust our employees to uphold central principles (Bailey 2008,
p.1). However, in many ways The New York Times blind trust policy was unchecked and even
promoted Blair s unethical behavior (Mnookin, 2005).
Jayson Blair s New York Time s scandal would never have happened if The Times had a better
system of validating and checking for possible plagerism before a story was sent for print.
Moreover, as Tannenbaum (2003) mentions in her article there were plagiarism detection tools
present that could have been used and would have averted the Blair scandal. The New York Times
like other newspapers determined that they did not have to check their writer s stories for accuracy
or possible plagerism.
Unfortunately, Blair crossed the line and ignored the majority of the journalism codes of

Strengths Of Existentialism
This assignment is about the main features of the existentialist view (UoPeople, 2017), or
existentialism, as well as the major strengths and weaknesses, and what is appealing or
discouraging about Sartre s Theory. First and foremost, existentialism is a philosophical theory or
approach that emphasizes the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent

Religious And Civil Life During The 19th Century
One can hardly speak of the Haskalah in Eastern Europe without referencing its relationship to
Hasidism. Beginning in eighteenth century Poland Lithuanian area, the Bal Shem Tov created a
brand of simple and extremely pietistic Judaism appealing most to uneducated working class Jews.
Hasidism viewed Western ideas, language, and even dress as a threat to traditional Jewish society.
In addition, religious and civil life were inseparable, unlike their western coreligionist. These values
brought Haskalah in Eastern Europe into a continuous and often tense struggle with the traditional
Jewish community.
Unlike their Western coreligionist, Eastern European Jewish communities were still quite
traditional by the early 19th century. The Hasidic movement strengthening traditional Jewish life
and filled the leadership gap left by the government abolishment of autonomous communal
structures known as kahals. At the same time, the maskilim were also exerting increasing influence
and leadership among Eastern Jewish communities, and viewed Hasidism as outdated separatist
preventing Jews from modernizing. To this end, maskilim sought to discredit Hasidism particularly
with state authorities. Journals such as Ha Karmel, Razsvet, and Kerem Hemed, carried the clever
satire from maskilim such as Joseph Perl and Isaac Erter s Gilgul Nefesh (Transmigration of the
Soul) portraying Hasidism as backward, and purposefully antagonistic to government efforts
towards Jewish social and political

Canada is one of two countries located in North America and is the second largest country in the

traditions, mainly that of the French and British. Canadian culture has also been influenced by the

First Nations have the oldest influence on Prairie culture as they have lived in this region for
centuries. Fur traders and explorers from Eastern Canada were the first Europeans to come to the
Prairies. They gave rise to the MГ©tis, famous for their skill in bison hunting (Wikipedia, 2007,
par.9). Located in Southern Alberta, there is an historical site, Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump,
where they exhibit the large cliffs that the MГ©tis would use to run the bison off of the edge. They
were very resourceful and used all parts of the animal for their survival. Once the Canadian Pacific
Railway was built more ethnic groups started to settle in this region. The Prairies were settled in
district ethnic block settlements giving certain areas a distinctly Ukrainian, German, French and
Scandinavian Canadian cultures (Wikipedia, 2007, par.9). Just outside of Edmonton, Alberta there
is the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village which is a museum that was built to resemble pioneer
settlements in east central Alberta. Buildings from the surrounding communities have been
relocated to this area and have been preserved for their historical significance. There are also
people who dress in historic costumes that actually play the roles of the men, women and children
who lived at that time. Another culture that is prevalent in the southern prairies is the cowboy
culture (Wikipedia, 2007, par.10). Because ranching is so popular in this

  • 2. A Summary Of Truman Vote By Truman Capote Although Truman Capote writes this narrative to tell about a murder, he must first describe and enhance the victims to elaborate on their history; therefore, Capote enhances just how senseless crimes can be. Capotes tactic is driven by his empathy towards the event of the wronging that took place at the Clutters house, he utilizes amplification to magnify how senseless the true crime was and to describe the significance. Capote was much more focused on the development of the characters. He draws the audience s attention to the Clutter family, specifically their positive characteristics especially Nancy Clutter, Where she found the time, and still managed to practically run that big house and be a straight A student, the president of her class, a leader in the 4 H program and the Young Methodists League, a skilled rider, an excellent musician (piano, clarinet), an annual winner at the county fair (pastry, preserves, needlework, flower arrangement) how a girl not yet seventeen could haul such a wagonload, and do so without brag, with, rather, merely a radiant jauntiness, was an enigma the community pondered... (Capote 18) Amplifying Nancy Clutter in such way gives emphasis to the audience that the family was kind hearted, they didn t deserve the senseless act of murder from the two strangers: Perry and Dick. Capotes giving the description of Nancy s character through her actions gave a true message that she helped others and was a leader, the Clutters were magnificent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Political Beliefs Of The Shia And Shia Sunni and Shia are part of the 1.6 billion followers of Muslims across the world. After all, Shia are a minority group that have been recently attacked by Sunnis. Shias are being targeted and killed for their beliefs. Yet, Sunni and Shia have many similar beliefs and customs, but their main difference is based on who should be the political figure. When the Sunni and Shia chose different political figures, they also came upon different ideology. Soon as the prophet Muhammad died in the seventh century, he did not designate a political ruler after his death. Thus, the country was left without an appointed figure leaving the Muslim community without a caliphate. Consequently, the people had to decide who was going to be appointed as the leader of the Muslim community. The Sunni believed that Abu Bakr should be the leader and was given the popularity of the vote, but Shia believed that the family of the prophet should be the leader. Shia argued that only Aliwas qualified to uphold the spiritual values that underpinned the whole future direction of Islam. (Rogerson 5) The disagreement of who should be leader grew to the establishment of Shia, who supported Ali. Shia believed that Ali should have been the first caliphinstead of Abu Bakr being the first. Shia came to the conclusion that Sunni falsified hadith and Abu angered Fatima, in which Fatima was part of Muhammad causing Shia to believe that he does not have right to become first caliph. As a result, that left Sunni ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Bar Codes How Much Do Your Mistakes Cost? Brittney Roper, R.N. Southwestern Oklahoma State University Introduction Proper patient identification in hospitals has been an issue for many years, especially when it comes to blood specimen collection. Laboratory specimens being mislabeled are a everyday cause of harm to patients including repeat diagnostic procedures; repeat phlebotomy; delays in necessary surgical procedures; a performing unnecessary surgical procedures (Dunn and Moga, 2010). This is not only costly, but it is very stressing to patients and medical staff. The biggest concern is the possibility of making a fatal error when it comes to specimen collection. Without proper patient identification this risk increases substantially. Wallin, Sodberg, Van Guelpen, Stenlund, Grankvist, and Brulin (2009) state that critical errors in patient identification for blood testing occurs in up to one per 1000 specimens or procedures and misidentified specimens cause 160,000 adverse events every year in America. Bar coding has been introduced into many hospitals in the last several years. Using bar codes on patients ID bracelets and labels for specimens has been the normal practice for Saint Francis Hospital for some time. However, the labels aren t used as well as they should be to prevent errors in patient care. According to Wickham, Miedema, Gamerdinger, and DeGooyer (2006), implementing the use of bar codes for patient identification will prevent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Advertising Strategies In Advertising Viktor drives a 2013 Dodge RAM. He realized he was wasting up to $1,000 in gas money a week so he did a little car research. Two days later, he was driving down the freeway on his way home from work. He glanced at a neatly placed billboard of a 2016 Prius with excellent mileage. The car fascinated Viktor. He bought the car right away and traded in his gas chugging truck. Viktor was happy and ready to use the money he will save on a vacation. The ad industry is a necessary evil. This paper will examine how advertisements use marketing strategies to reach the viewer s subconscious. To help prove my point, I will use the 2016 Toyota Prius: Heck on Wheels advertisement. The advertisement starts with what is a content, organized, single, middle aged man, momma s boy, with an indoor job, and drives a Prius singing to a metal beat. The advertisements overall focus is to try to convince the audience that The All New Prius is the new cool. It shows some safety features that come from driving the Prius. The driver Todd Morgan approaches a gas station and shuns the other vehicles for needing to fill up gas it shows the Prius saves a lot of gas. The advertisement is for the Average Joe . Some marketing strategies used by this advertisement and advertisement companies include gender, social status, and data mining. Social status means the ranking one has in society. Salespeople are primarily motivated by two things: money and status. They want to be paid well and they measure their success by the size of their incomes relative to others. In addition, they want to be recognized and appreciated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This book is designed to give you practical insights that will enable you to make those jumps in performance, to give you the winning edge. Here is another key idea for success: your weakest important skill sets the height at which you can use all your other skills, and determines your income. In other words, if you are poor in a key skill area like prospecting, or closing, that one weakness alone will determine your sales results and how much you earn. A single deficiency in your ability can hold you back from succeeding, no matter how good you might be in every other area. Put another way, it is your strengths that have brought you to where you are today, but it is your weaknesses that are now holding you back from progressing further and faster. This book is designed to give you specific tools you can use to overcome any critical weaknesses you may have, first by identifying them, and second, by giving you practical exercises you can apply immediately to strengthen yourself in that area. This book deals simultaneously with both the inner game of selling, the mental component, and the outer game of selling, the methods and techniques of actually making the sale. When you begin to improve in both areas simultaneously, both your sales and your self confidence will increase at a rapid rate. Only small differences in attitude and ability separate the top salespeople from the average. When you learn and apply the 21 Great Ways ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout history, many people have consistently tried to prove that groups with inborn qualities can either vastly improve or degenerate different races over time. This rhetoric has been proven multiple times throughout the course of the last century in the United States and Nazi reigned Germany. Supposedly, this rhetoric has been disproven throughout the United States; however, there are proven accounts that the United States government has recently supported this theory of sterilization of minorities by supporting the eugenicsmovement. This movement was not only practiced in Nazi Germany, but also on United States soil. The topic of improving the genetic makeup of different races has not only just become a common theme for many modern day countries to use to make their societies more genetically fit. However, it has adopted the basis for current racismthat is clearly apparent in today s society. If improving genetic fitness was not a concern to past societies, then people in general would be more open to interracial and cross cultural relationships rather than completely disregarding the idea of dating someone that is visibly genetically different. Historically speaking, Americans and the United States government have consistently had many issues of not recognizing their faults towards current situations that could potentially be avoided. • 20. Minimal Risk What We Know About Minimal Risk In the determination of risk, there are two major components for IRBs to consider (BCEHI, 2013). The first component is the risk that may result from research, as distinct from the risks that may be associated with the therapies that participants would endure if they were not participating in research (U.S. Department of HHS). For example, in the calculation of risk for a study that is measuring the effects of a brain operation on memory for the purpose of epilepsy relief, only the risks associated with the memory test should be considered by the IRB (U.S. Department of HHS). Thus, some research studies can present minimal risk even when higher risks are associated with the therapeutic procedure (U.S. Department... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vulnerability factors include, but are not limited to, the participant s mental, emotional, and cognitive capacity, socio economic status, age, and the existence of power relationships (BCEHI, 2013). As the federal regulation title 45 CFR part 46.111(b) stipulates: When some or all of the subjects are likely to be vulnerable to coercion or undue influence, such as children, prisoners, pregnant women, mentally disabled persons, or economically or educationally disadvantaged persons, additional safeguards have been included in the study to protect the rights and welfare of these subjects. However, the National Research Council (2014) asserts that because this definition does not differentiate between social and research vulnerabilities, this definition encourages IRBs to estimate the research harms faced by any population considered to be vulnerable. Therefore, the risk caused by the vulnerability of a group should be examined in conjunction with the specific risks posed by the research (Fisher Goodman, 2009). This relationship between the continuum of risk level and participant vulnerability, which can be used to determine if a study may require full IRB review, is provided in Figure 1. This means that when a study s potential risk is being assessed, the harm that may be caused by the actual research participation and the harm that may be caused by the situation or participant characteristics should be uniquely contemplated (National Research Council, 2014). Thus, the current paper advocates for the integration of considerations on the potential harm caused by the research procedures in conjunction with participants ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role And Responsibilities Of The Nurse As the nurse leader progresses through the strategic planning process, he or she must take into consideration the financial costs and timeline required to implement their strategic plan. Developing an operational budget and a realistic timeline are critical elements in ensuring the strategic plan is successfully implemented (Lee Jones, 2004). Financial Resources For many years now, healthcare organizations in Canada have faced financial challenges as a result of lower healthcare spending and increased expenses (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2014, para.1). Therefore, before the introduction of any new initiative, the nurse leader must ensure the change does not bring any financial hardship to the organization and resources are used in a cost effective manner (Marquis Huston, 2015). For this planned change, there is no financial cost with revising the role and responsibilities of all the Nurse Clinicians and the existing budget is the financial resource that will cover the cost of adding another Nurse Clinician The largest financial aspect of this planned change is the salary of the new Nurse Clinician. In this case, when creating another role the nurse manager has to ensure the change will be cost neutral to the organization, meaning the addition of one Nurse Clinician will have no impact on the overall budget. To accomplish this, the nurse manager responsible for the Clinicians explained that when the unit assessors were doing the MDS, every unit in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Based on a 1997 survey by the American Management Association, the most often claimed reasons for downsizing are organizational restructuring, business downturn, and reengineering of business processes. However, downsizing basically comes down to one issue that all of these factors stem from, money. When a company does not have any money or not enough, it causes problems in the company. In Downsizing Without Disaster, Lynn Tylczak states that everything takes money, and without it a company cannot survive (4 7). Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, involves extracting natural gas from shale formations underground (Collier, Galatas, Harrelson Stephens, 2008). During the process known as fracking, millions of gallons of water are shot underground into shale formations to help bring the natural gastrapped inside the formations to be released so that it can surface and become available for extraction. This is the technique that is used for traditional fracking methods. Although fracking increases the states natural gas production, it also carries some negative side effects that are affecting the state and its people. When most people think of Texasthey think of the booming oil industry that the state has. According to our textbook, Texas accounts for almost one third of the country s natural gas production and holds almost almost a quarter of the country s natural gas reserves. Texas has greatly invested in the recourses that are found within the state which makes gives the state a huge economic advantage. When fracking is used to help turn out even larger quantities of natural gas, the economic impact is huge. Temperature increases kinetic energy of the molecules, facilatating faster diffusion of particles as particles now have a greater speed and thus more readily diffuse across the membrane. Higher surface area to volume ratio as being small minimizes volume and having many folds maximizes surface area. With a higher surface area, greater diffusion rates can occur as there is a larger area for nutrients and water to pass through. • 34. Stereotypes In Black Men And Public Space Stereotypes are born from fear and ignorance. They are used to wrongly judge an individual or group. Brent Staples, a black man, is no stranger to this. Black Men and Public Space, written by Staples, he discusses his experiences as a black man; often being mistaken as a criminal because of his appearance. Most people see his universal identity and not who he really is. Living in the city of Chicago as a black man, he is frequently categorized as a thug or aggressor. The purpose of his essay is to inform the readers about how it feels to be the one who is stereotyped, as well as to express his discontent of being type casted. As a result of the negative stereotypes involving black men, Staples has the capacity to negatively alter the space he is in by causing others to fear him. Equivalently, many people also fear cops because of the stigma they have. Because of this, the police negatively impact the space they are in. In the article, What Happens When Black People Learn They Should Fear the Police , Jesse Singal discusses how police brutality has affected the black community s trust in the police. Staples often faces stereotypes because of his threatening physical appearance. In fact, during his night strolls most women he came in contact with would hide their purses and others would walk towards the opposite side as him. Women in particular are often the ones who fear him. Staples does not deny the fact that women are the most vulnerable to street violence, and young ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Happiness In Silas Marner Happiness can be found by going down many avenues; some created through love and connections, and others through greed and petty implements used to fill voids of the soul. Throughout the book, Silas Marner goes down many of these avenues to create happiness within himself. He first gained the prized emotion in Lantern Yard through religion, but when he loses that through tragedy, he obsessively tries to obtain enough gold to fill the void. However, when Eppie comes into his life, Silas soon learns that love, community, and family connection is what brings true happinessto him. In Lantern Yard, Marner was a very active member in the church and community. When described as a brother of the church, he was said to be a young man of exemplary life and ardent faith (Eliot 6). The particular choice of adjectives used to describe his faith in the Lord supports in full how content Marner is in this life when he is involved in his religion. Use of the word ardent , meaning enthusiastic and passionate, to describe his faith are how those experiencing utter content are portrayed as. Another adjective used to create expression is exemplary , meaning serving as a perfect model. This proves the claim of Silas happiness because nobody would want to be like a man who is isolated and sorrowful. So, it is by passionate faith that Marner realizes happiness. When tragedy strikes, Marner is stripped of his faith and community. He resorts to greed in a desperate attempt to fill the void ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Jane Austen s Novel And True Classic Sense And Sensibility There are many authors whose works are considered to be classics; perhaps the most influential is Jane Austen. Jane Austen wrote six novels, that in today s world, we call classics. Her first novel and true classic Sense and Sensibility, was published in 1811 at a time when the world was just starting to write full length novels. Though Jane Austenonly lived to be forty one, she contributed much too modern literature; such as being one of the first major authors to make use of the three volume novel, and to use chapters within the volumes (Sweeton). One of the many reasons as to why Jane Austen s novels are considered classics is due to the fact that she wrote about real social and financial issues of the day; however, financial and social issues are timeless, therefore they are still relevant in today s world. As one follows along with the Dashwood sisters in Sense and Sensibility, we see how the title of the story is very fitting; by providing one sister with sense and the other with sensibility, the story has two different dynamics that create a timeless classic. Born in 1775, Jane Austen grew up in a time when the dynamics of the world were constantly changing. Jane Austen was born in Steventon a village of Hampshire England, to a large family that consisted of seven other children (Jane Austen). Having an interest in writing since a young age, one of her first works of writing was a novella titled Lady Susan, a story written in epistle form (which means as a ... Music can connect people to one another, and it can also connect people to whatever they hold sacred. Geertz wanted to know how religion function in a society. To him, religion consists of symbols that had meanings for ideas, values and lifestyles of a society. Black metalis one of those. In this, I will be discussing how Satanism came into a music genre call black metal that was started in Norway and how it is a movement and not a controversy like most people think. Norwegian Black Metal is a sub genre of heavy metal, which was started in the 1980s in England. It received its name from a band called Venom when they released their second album called Black Metal and its lyrics focused on anti Christian and Satanic themes. Black metal is a synonym for Satanic metal because they express harsh anti Christian and other anti religion views. They then influenced a lot of other bands to take after what they were doing. They influenced one of the major bands called Hellhammer. Everyone said they made raw and vicious music with Satanic lyrics that later influenced the black metal. They influence a lot of main bands, Mayhem and Darkthrone. Some also believe that Euronymous goes their name from Hellhammer s track Eurynomos. First Nations have the oldest influence on Prairie culture as they have lived in this region for centuries. Fur traders and explorers from Eastern Canada were the first Europeans to come to the Prairies. They gave rise to the MГ©tis, famous for their skill in bison hunting (Wikipedia, 2007, par.9). Located in Southern Alberta, there is an historical site, Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump, where they exhibit the large cliffs that the MГ©tis would use to run the bison off of the edge. They were very resourceful and used all parts of the animal for their survival. Once the Canadian Pacific Railway was built more ethnic groups started to settle in this region. The Prairies were settled in district ethnic block settlements giving certain areas a distinctly Ukrainian, German, French and Scandinavian Canadian cultures (Wikipedia, 2007, par.9).
