WELCOME TO OUR PRESENRARION
Resources Of Bay Bengal, Classification Of Marine Resources ,Importance Of
Resources ,Environmental Impacts On Costal Area.
 Marine resources are the things that plants, animals and humans need for life that
originate in the ocean
 Most organisms that require marine resources for survival live inside the marine
ecosystem.
 Transportation and fishing have been the two most important economic activities
carried out on the oceans
 Fishing still continues to be a major sources of food for the peoples.
 It provides food in the form of fish and shellfish—about 200 billion pounds are caught
each year

Trade and commerce:
Transport by sea was the essential characteristic of this world. The
prevailing ocean winds and currents dictated the direction in which
sailing ships could travel. They also determined the nature of maritime
trade and social interaction.
Truism:
Human interest in the sea fuels a multi-billion dollar a year ocean
tourism industry. Ocean tourism refers to pleasure travel in which
the sea is the primary focus of activities. Ocean tourism comes in
many forms including cruises, ecotourism, and fishing expeditions.
Source of medicinal raw materials:
The oceans are a source of natural raw materials such as
medicines, feed for livestock, polysaccharides and building
materials. The potential for acquiring future raw materials
from the marine environment is enormous.
Food supply:
Seafood is an important ecosystem service provided by coastal
waters and ocean ecosystems and is a primary source of protein for
close to a billion people. The first presentation in this chapter
addresses the need to balance human dietary needs and the
sustainability of fisheries and the ecosystems that provide them. The
second presentation further elaborates on the need to identify and
implement responsible strategies for managing ecosystems that
provide fish and other seafood
Giving aesthetic view:
Our aesthetic enjoyment of the art show was increased by the
presence of the open bar.
Because Henry could see both the mountains and the ocean
from his hotel room, he really enjoyed the aesthetic view.
Oil and gas extraction :
Petroleum is a substance that has formed beneath the surface of
the Earth over eons. The remains of ancient plants and animals
have been buried and compressed beneath thousands of feet of
sand, mud, and rock. The organic materials, under certain
geological conditions, have been transformed by overburden
pressure and subsurface heat into hydrocarbon compounds,
such as crude oil and natural gas.
Carbon capture and storage:
It is possible to capture carbon from rich (concentrated) sources of
carbon dioxide and after NEUTRALISATION, store it in the ocean
permanently. A number of issues of concern with this technology
under the Kyoto Convention are discussed below.
This new method for carbon capture and ocean storage involves
dissolving concentrated CO2 (from flue gas) in sea water and then
neutralising the carbonic acid formed with calcium carbonate. The
process stores carbon in the form of bicarbonate.
Potential of aquaculture
Offshore aquaculture, also known as open ocean aquaculture, is an
emerging approach to mari culture or marine farming where fish
farms are moved some distance offshore. The farms are positioned
in deeper and less sheltered waters, where ocean currents are
stronger than they are inshore.
Source of sand and gravel:
Sand and gravel are mined world-wide and account for the
largest volume of solid material extracted globally and the
highest volume of raw material used on earth after water
(about 70-80% of the 50 billion tons material mined/year).
Formed by erosive processes over thousands of years, they are
now being extracted at a rate far greater than their renewal.
Source of salt:
Salt in the ocean comes from rocks on land.
The rain that falls on the land contains some
dissolved carbon dioxide from the surrounding air.
This causes the rainwater to be slightly acidic due to
carbonic acid (which forms from carbon dioxide and
water).Ocean is the main source of salt.
Environmental impacts:
 The intensive use of water and land by tourism and
leisure facilities.
 The delivery and use of energy.
 Changes in the landscape coming from the
construction of infrastructure, buildings and facilities.
 Air pollution and waste.
 The compaction and sealing of soils (damage and
destruction of vegetation).
 The disturbance of fauna and local people (for
example, by noise).
Socio-cultural impacts:
 Economic inequality - between locals and tourists who are spending more than they usually do at
home.
 Irritation due to tourist behavior - Tourists often, out of ignorance or carelessness, fail to respect local
customs and moral values.
 Job level friction - due to a lack of professional training, many low-paid tourism-jobs go to local
people while higher-paying and more prestigious managerial jobs go to foreigners or "urbanized"
nationals.
