Bay of Bengal
It is located between latitudes 5°N and 22°N and longitudes 80°E
and 100°E.
It is approximately 1,000 miles (1,600 km) wide, with an
average depth near 8,500 feet (2,600 meters). The maximum depth
is recorded at 15,400 feet (4,694 meters).
Bangladesh is situated at the head of the Bay of Bengal.
Fisheries production in the Bay of Bengal is six million tonnes
per year, more than seven percent of the world’s catch.
The Bay of Bengal is an area of high biodiversity, with a large
number of endangered and vulnerable species.
Bay of Bengal is the
64th largest marine
Ecosystem.
Comprising 2.2
million sq km and the
average depth is
2,600m (max 5,258m)
High biodiversity,
with a large number
of endangered and
vulnerable species.
Fish Production more
than 7% of the total
world’s catch.

What is Fishing Ground
 Fishing ground refers an area in a body of water
where fishes congregate and fishing is usually good.
 Generally a fishing ground is divided into two ways
permanent fishing ground and temporary fishing
ground.
Fishing Ground of Bay of Bengal
A part of a body of water where the fishing is usually good.
Fishing ground is those area of a water body where fish
concentration remains always significant. Generally fishing
ground is divided into two ways- permanent fishing ground
and temporary fishing ground. Bay of Bengal has four

Exclusive Economic Zone
 Generally, a state's exclusive economic zone is an area beyond and
adjacent to the territorial sea, extending seaward to a distance of not
more than 200 nmi (370 km) out from its coastal baseline.
 The exception to this rule occurs when exclusive economic zones
would overlap; that is, state coastal baselines are less than 400 nmi
(740 km) apart.
 EEZ of Bangladesh spans 164,000 km2 and the shelf area covers
roughly 66,440 km2

Conclusion
• Bay of bengal is one of the most important place for biological
resources in Bangladesh. A varities types of fish , shellfish, shirmp,
catfishes, Crab, lobstar, are found in Bay of bengal .The Fishing
Ground of Bay of bengal plays an important role for catching fish
.Its gives a clear concept where fishes are more abundant and where
is not.A fisherman follows these marked area for obtaining huge
amount of fish .

  • 3. Bay of Bengal It is located between latitudes 5°N and 22°N and longitudes 80°E and 100°E. It is approximately 1,000 miles (1,600 km) wide, with an average depth near 8,500 feet (2,600 meters). The maximum depth is recorded at 15,400 feet (4,694 meters). Bangladesh is situated at the head of the Bay of Bengal. Fisheries production in the Bay of Bengal is six million tonnes per year, more than seven percent of the world’s catch. The Bay of Bengal is an area of high biodiversity, with a large number of endangered and vulnerable species.
  • 4. Bay of Bengal is the 64th largest marine Ecosystem. Comprising 2.2 million sq km and the average depth is 2,600m (max 5,258m) High biodiversity, with a large number of endangered and vulnerable species. Fish Production more than 7% of the total world’s catch.

  • 6. What is Fishing Ground  Fishing ground refers an area in a body of water where fishes congregate and fishing is usually good.  Generally a fishing ground is divided into two ways permanent fishing ground and temporary fishing ground.
  • 7. Fishing Ground of Bay of Bengal A part of a body of water where the fishing is usually good. Fishing ground is those area of a water body where fish concentration remains always significant. Generally fishing ground is divided into two ways- permanent fishing ground and temporary fishing ground. Bay of Bengal has four fishing ground:- 3.Middle ground 4.Swatch of o ground 1.South patches 2.South of south patches
  • 9. 1.South patches  It is located at 91.30º E to 92.10º E and 20.55º S to 21.52º S.  The total area of 3,662 sq km.  Depth ranging from 10m to 100m, but 90% of the total area is less than 40m deep.  Bottom sediment is sandy or slightly muddy sand.  Nearest distance of the ground from Chittagong and Cox's Bazar is 40 km and 10 km respectively.  Salinity in surface 26% to 32% and 30% to 35% in bottom water.  Water temperature varies between 20 and 28ºC.

  • 15. Exclusive Economic Zone  Generally, a state's exclusive economic zone is an area beyond and adjacent to the territorial sea, extending seaward to a distance of not more than 200 nmi (370 km) out from its coastal baseline.  The exception to this rule occurs when exclusive economic zones would overlap; that is, state coastal baselines are less than 400 nmi (740 km) apart.  EEZ of Bangladesh spans 164,000 km2 and the shelf area covers roughly 66,440 km2
