The Trojan War Facts
Trojan War Myth/Fact Tell me, O Muse, of that ingenious hero who traveled far and wide after he had
sacked the famous town of Troy. (Butler 1835 1902) The epic poem The Iliad and The Odyssey, is the
story of the Greek struggle to rescue Queen Helen from the Trojan captors. Which led to an all out war
between the Achaean Greeks and the Trojans, the name of this war is called the Trojan War. The
Trojan War was a legendary conflict between the early Greeks and the people of Troy in western
Anatolia. In the original story, Paris, son of the Trojan king, ran off with Helen, wife of Menelaus.
Menelaus demanded to have her back, but the Trojans refused, so his brother Agamemnon built a
wooden horse that he took into battle with him and led a Greek ... Show more content on

The war apparently lasted ten years, when the Greeks finally withdrew, leaving behind a large wooden
horse with a raiding party concealed inside. A man named Sinon was left behind and he convinced the
Trojans to bring the horse inside the city. When the Trojans bought the horse into the city the party of
Greeks opened up the horse and raided the city. Men were massacred, and women carried off. It also
states that the Gods found the war to be so interesting that they participated themselves, and helped
the Greeks take the city of Troy. No one really knows if this war was a myth or a fact due to the fact
that it is presented only briefly in an epic poem. In order to find evidence of the war, historians have
gone to the site of where the war would ve taken place and excavated artifacts to prove wither the
Trojan was a myth or a fact. But their research started off from the very beginning, which was the
source of the Trojan War

The United States Of America
The modern society is work driven that people need to work hard to realize the general community
development goals and personal goals. Thus, work has become an integral part of the day to day living
of an average American. One needs to always have something to do in mind and strive to grow on the
job to experience greater financial success and skill development. Whether or not a person has
multiple work opportunities or succeeds in their work life is influenced by multiple factors, some of
which are within the control of the individual in question. The United States of America has a unique
work culture that is predominantly shaped by the way that the society is stratified and the assertions
that people build towards their work life. However, one thing that remains certain is the way that
culture affects the direction that a person takes in employment, on top of the individual ability to
overcome social obstacles in order to secure employment that is favorable to an individual in terms of
skill and preference. Suffice to say, the milestones attained in one s work life is contingent to the
institutional and cultural support availed by their external environment, personal psychological
strength and belief also plays a part.
Growing up as a member of a minority group in American does mean that a person needs to embody a
positive attitude works. One needs to be sure that someday, he will have to step out and secure
employment that will help attain self sustenance and at times

Essay
Earlier in the semester, the class was introduced to topics such as politics within Children s Literature
and learning how to be cultural critics. Both topics generated discussion that was centered around the
contributions that were made within Children s Literature and how they could deepen young reader s
understanding of the content presented to them in children books. I believe the book The Sneetches
and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss would ve been a great addition to the class reading list. In this book,
Dr. Seuss discussed topics such as discrimination, prejudice, acceptance, and tolerance which are all
topics people wouldn t think are suitable for a children s book. The themes were used as underlying
messages throughout the story and the illustration presented a visual to readers, so that they could
have a clear understanding of what Dr. Seuss was writing. The importance of the message was to bring
awareness to the issues that are present within society. Other stories include The Zax , Too Many
Daves , and What Was I Scared Of? . These stories all contribute to reaching out to help young readers
analyze and further understand others who may not always be the same as them. In Dr. Suess s The
Zax , one Zax was going North and one South but because of pride neither one moved to
accommodate the other out of respect. Too Many Daves highlights the lack of originality. It teaches
children to stand out, make a difference. What Was

Reflection About Geography
Every other year, my high school offers a College in the Schools (CIS) geography course. In this
course, there is one assignment that all the upperclassmen would always complain about. As an
underclassman, I had dreaded the year that I was going to be receiving this assignment due to having a
tendency to save my projects for last minute. I will never forget the map that taught me that
procrastination makes the process of completing assignments more difficult, especially on a project
that is for a college class.
In the beginning of November 2016, my junior year, our college geography class received our quarter
project: a map of the world. Our teacher, Mr.Sharstrom, assigned our class a large number of physical
features that our maps needed to include such as rivers, lakes, islands, mountain ranges, seas, oceans,
and deserts. Mr.Sharstrom required us to include all seven continents and a key that showed
distinctions in the different physical features of the world. The maps needed to be to scale and show a
minimum amount of distortion as possible. When we received our project, our geography teacher
warned us, This project will be time consuming and you will not want to wait until the week before to
start your maps.
After communicating expectations with the class, a majority of my classmates began to work on their
maps. I knew that my family was traveling to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, for Thanksgiving break, so
I wanted to attempt to complete as much of the map as possible

Mindset Reflective Essay
Honestly, I never really got into this book and I thought it was pretty pointless overall. It was in no
way interesting, hard, or thought provoking. It really made me realize how I m in 8 grade and I m not
a little kid anymore. Also, reading this book along with Mindset , I really started to realize how I took
the easy way out by not reading a real classic. Crossed had a Lexile of around 650, whereas my Lexile
is around 1,200. Right about now I m really regretting my decision to read this book because I didn t
have to stop and think about anything Next quarter I m definitely going to read a more challenging,
thoughtful book. Since this book has such an easy Lexile, there wasn t a big message in the story. It

Throughout the whole book, Cassia constantly stated her interest in the Rising. Every time she would
mention it, Ky would say how much he hated it and he and Cassia would get in an argument. That s
why I was really surprised when he joined the Rising especially since he had to run the entire way
there, while Cassia and Indie got to canoe. This is significant because Ky hated the Rising with all of
his heart because it s the reason his parents were killed, but despite his hate for it, he joined it anyway
to be with Cassia. Getting this message from the book was pretty self explanatory because in the first
book they had no disagreements, so their relationship was perfect. When their journey through the
Carving came to the point where they had to start thinking about if they were going to join the Rising
or the Farmers and they both wanted to go to different destinations, their relationship became full of
bickering. In the end, though, they loved each other so much that Ky gave up his hate for the Rising to
join it. This shows that if you love somebody enough that no matter what it is you can learn to

Ebola is a fever bound viral disease which belongs to the Filoviridae family and is extremely fatal.
When it first appeared in 1976, it claimed 90% of its recipients. Ebola originated from Nzara, Sudan
and Yambuku of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Its name originates from the Ebola River where
it was first contracted in Yambuku. Since its initial outbreak and more recent understanding of the
disease, medical amends have reduced the mortality rate greatly but it still spans from about 25% to
90% nonetheless. Before its outbreak in the United States in 2014, there were roughly 2300 cases with
over 1500 deaths. In 2014, the US had its first outbreak of Ebola with 11 total cases documented
where there were 2 deaths. Symptoms include fever,

Components Of The Nation Innovation System
Executive Summary:
Engineering is an important component of the nation innovation system (King.R 2016).The aim of this
report is innovation in a new engineering school that makes an impact in the present education
marketplace based on reasonable opportunities for the unique engineering school. There are a lot of
opportunities in innovation new engineering school such as student base, career base, Discipline areas,
teaching facilities and Institutional structures. Based on fact finding and future enhancement of
education in engineering education we decided that teaching facilities is one of the most important
opportunities to be illustrated in this report. According to this report, the solution we have achieved is
to build up student practical skills and knowledge is more important than other skills because when we
see the fact many students have enough theoretical knowledge but they don t know how to implement
it in the real world. By doing different types of the project outside university by students it led to gain
more experience, knowledge and reputation for the University.
Introduction:
Engineering is the one of the bases in the country and it plays very critical portion in all our lives.
Engineering cannot be evolved without the right education. The main aim of this report is to set up
new engineering school that makes a significant impact in the present marketplace and without it this
school will not exist. The main issues are the seats in universities in Western

Research Paper On The Five People You Meet In Heaven
The Five People You Meet in Heaven The Five People You Meet in Heaven is an amazing book that
shows how every life is connected, and that every life matters. The Five People You Meet in Heaven is
a book about an older man named Eddie who is a maintenance worker for an amusement park called
Ruby Pier where he works all of his life and his dad before him. Ruby Pier was built some seventy
five years ago and has changed immensely since it was built. The Five People You Meet in Heaven
describes heaven as meeting five people who impacted your life or you impacted theirs and teach you
a lesson. The first person Eddie meets is a man named Joseph Corvelzchik better known as the Blue
Man Eddie did not know the Blue Man very well but Eddie killed him accidentally and Eddie had no
idea he killed him. When Eddie was younger his brother and him were playing catch and Joe, Eddie s
brother, threw the ball over Eddie s and Eddie instinctively turned to go get the ball and was almost hit
by a car who swerved out of the way to avoid hitting Eddie. The man driving the car was the Blue
Man who swerved around Eddie and swerved around another car eventually swerving down an
alleyway and dying of a heart attack. The Blue Man is a great example of how every life is connected
in some way Eddie just a little boy killed the Blue Man, Joseph, and had no idea he killed him until he
himself died.

Pearl Harbor s Attack On Pearl Harbor
At the time of the attack, there were approximately eighty different vessels in the harbor, most notably
eight battleships, three cruisers, four destroyers, one minelayer, five auxiliary craft, and over 400
aircraft present at Pearl Harbor (Figure 2). Additionally, the three aircraft carriers of the fleet were not
present: the USS Enterprise was approximately 150 miles West of Pearl Harbor, the USS Saratoga was
still in San Diego, California, and the USS Lexington was at sea in the vicinity of Midway Island
(Yarnall, 2003). The Japanese Imperial Navy forces that attacked Pearl Harbor were comprised of six
carriers, several submarines, and over 450 aircraft. Despite being outnumbered in terms of sheer
military power, the Japanese forces had the element of surprise on their side, allowing them to strike

Deontological And Teleological Ethics
Introduction This essay will include the background and development of deontological and
teleological ethics. Also, it will compare and contrast the absolute and relative ethics. Finally, it will
contain the ethical issues which can affect the operational activities of the business. In order to support
the points, it will also include the real life examples. AC 1.1 Background and development of ethical
approaches Teleological ethic this describes an ethical theory which judges the rightness of an action
in terms of an external goal or purpose. So, according to a teleological theory, consequences always
play some part, be it small or large, in the determination of what one should or should not do. Not all
teleological theories are consequentialist. John Rawls theory of justice is teleological, but not
consequentialist because it claims that consequences are only part of what must be considered when
determining what policy is morally just. For example, animal testing is the moral choice to put animal
through pain or not. The reason behind defining animal testing in a make up factory it is for a greater
good as if the animal gets hurt now, people are saved later as people will be able to use the products
that are developed and safe to use later. This is teleological because the moral choice was decided
upon the probability of a good outcome: the animal is tested upon, people would be able to get a safe
makeup products. A consequentialist action is one where the being

Soluble silver salt in the mobile phase provided silver ion for the interactions with unsaturated C C
bonds. Silver nitrate (AgNO3) that act as sources of silver ions has been frequently used in silver ion
chromatography. However, bitrate radical (NO3-) in the mobile phase has the stronger background
absorption among 190 ~ 240 nm as shown in Fig.2a [40]. Since the UV detection wavelength of
alantolactone and isoalantolactone was also in the range of 190 to 240 nm as shown in Fig.2b [41],
AgNO3 in mobile phase can cause extremely strong background absorption interference, as shown in

Evaluation Of A New Employee
It is important to ensure the new employee receives training before being aloud to input data into the
systems. The new employee will require a combination of side by side training where they are able to
watch, listen and learn. The new employee will also need to know where they can access this
information if they get lost in the process, in some cases this may be found on the company intranet
under user guides. These user guides usually show the process using a combination of instructions and
screen shots to ensure easy to follow directions. During the training phase it is important to check in
with the new employee or have regular coaching sessions where certain areas of difficulty can be
addressed and gone through. It is also important once the training period has come to an end and your
new employee is ready to start capturing the data that they again have a period of side by side
assistance. This would entail watching the new employee go through the motions of data entry
providing guidance when required. One very good way to ensure consistency is to provide a call flow
sheet with each step. The procedure should provide information about: identify records for capture
Identifying records for capture is a very important as this information is essential for good business
where the capture of your customers information is required for identification purposes and billing
purposes. If we do not capture this information companies loose money. Eg: if we do not capture

Research Paper On Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Queen Elizabeth II might be one of the most influential monarchs living today in this era of the
democratic states. With her rule over the Commonwealth Nations lasting for over fifty years, the
Queen has been very much popular with the public, not just in Great Britain or amongst the
Commonwealth Nations, but also amongst all the nations of the world.
The Queen s life might have only begun as the first child to the Duke and Duchess of York, but
instantly she came into attention of the nation with her strong bond with the then head of state, King
George V, who was also Elizabeth s grandfather. The qualities of Elizabeth had been exemplary from
the very start. Although a little mischievous as a child, Elizabeth was quite mannered, polite and
respectful.
After her father, King George VI, was crowned, Elizabeth became the natural successor to the throne.
With this face, a sense of responsibility arose within her, making her more active towards the matters
of national interest. She had already become famous amongst the public with her very first broadcast
to console, strengthen and assure the war stricken children of the nation. Her efforts to assist the
country in the tome of war showed her courage, bravery and love for the nation and its people.
After her marriage with Duke of Edinburgh and then replacing her deceased father as the head of the
state, Elizabeth had shown immense maturity as she kept working tirelessly to uphold the

University of North Georgia
Abstract
Introduction: This paper is to research and explore the use of prototyping in the system development
life cycle. Prototyping is a very important part of the SDLC, allowing the developers to better learn
what the users want, and if what they are creating will work in an efficient and fluid manner. This
paper will evaluate what prototyping is, what it is best to be used for, what the downfalls are, and
when to not use it.

Prototyping also allows for quick system development when there may be a short period of time in
which to develop the system.
Prototyping and Its Use in the SDLC Prototyping offers many advantages in software development to
both the development team and to the end user. In general, prototyping allows for simultaneous
development within the analysis, design, and implementation stages of the systems development life
cycle. Following the traditional waterfall method of development can often lead to failure in
understanding user requirements, which can cause massive delays and costly mistakes. When it comes
to human computer interaction (HCI), one of the best techniques to bridge the gap between the user
and the developer is prototyping. This type of approach has become a commonplace practice for user
centered development (Tudhope, 2009, pp. 354 355). Software prototyping is an approach to building
software that allows the engineers to present the functionality (even if only limited) of the product
amidst development. However, this software may not represent the exact logic flow in the final
product. The popularity of this of this model has increased because it allows developers to examine
and include customer requirements early in the development cycle. This also allows an increased
amount of feedback from the customer and a better understanding of what the software is intended to
do (SDLC Software Prototype Model, 2014). When a customer

Antibiotic Resistance Lab Report
INTRODUCTION
An antibiotic is a medicine that inhibits the growth of or destroys microorganisms, including bacteria
(Microbiology Society, 2018). Antibiotics work by many different mechanisms, but most commonly
inhibit enzymes that are critical for cell wall biosynthesis, protein synthesis, transcription, DNA
replication, or synthesis of metabolites. They also can interfere with the integrity and permeability of
the bacterial cell membrane.
Antibiotic resistance occurs due to the strong selection pressure that antibiotics impose on a bacterium
community. Most bacteria are affected by the antibiotic and are killed, but at times, a mutation occurs
in an individual that leads to a resistant bacterium. This resistant strain can then spread rapidly due to
the lack of competing bacteria (Yurchenko, 2018). This resistance is more likely to occur from the
overuse of antibiotics; therefore, it has been a point of emphasis to use antibiotics only when
necessary and not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bioinformatics is the interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for
understanding biological data such as genetic codes. Using the various software available, one can
study the gene function and gene origin by comparing genetic sequences to a large database of know
sequences. There are two known Colistin resistance genes, MCR 1 and MCR 2, which are both
classified as phosphoethanolamine transferases. These genes are thought to alter the
lipopolysaccharides where the Colistin can no longer act upon them (Yurchenko, 2018). In order to
better understand how the Colistin resistance genes are spreading through bacteria, we wanted to
identify the Colistin resistance gene in bacterial species and analyze their relation on a phylogenic tree
using bioinformatics. This would allow us to answer the question whether the Colistin resistance gene
is spreading by lateral transfer or

Alternative Healthcare Options For Alternative Medicine
Introduction
Alternative healthcare options also known as alternative medicine is any of various method of healing
or treating disease that is not included under traditional medical practice in the United States and
Britain (Webster dictionary). These alternatives include methods such as hypnosis, acupuncture,
aromatherapy, chiropractic therapy, spiritual or faith healing amongst others. Alternative medicine is
the term used for medical products and practices that are not part of the standard of care. Standard of
care is what medical doctors, doctors of traditional medicine, and allied health professionals, such as
nurses and physical therapists, practice. Alternative medicine is used in place of standard medical care.
Examples of alternative practices that do not include traditional medicine are aroma therapy, diet
therapy, herbalism, homeopathy, massage therapy, reflexology, chiropractic therapy, cannabis, faith or
spiritual healing and acupuncture amongst others (Medicine.net). Alternative medical systems are built
upon complete systems of theory and practice sometimes these systems develop into something
substantial; some if these systems have even developed in western cultures. Examples of alternative
medical systems that have developed in Western cultures are homeopathic medicine and naturopathic
medicine. Examples of systems that have developed in non Western cultures include traditional
Chinese medicine and Ayurveda (Medicine.net). There are more than a hundred

Why Fingerprint Analysis Is Used For The Sake Of Forensic...
Introduction
Friction ridge analysis, or fingerprint analysis has been used for the sake of forensic analysis for over
100 years, and has perpetually been considered the most reliable technique of analysis. However, in
recent years, its reliability has begun to crumble due to certain standards set in the United States of
America. In this essay, fingerprint analysis will be briefly described, along with the framework of
ACE V in which analysts work from looking primarily at its weaknesses and criticisms. The Daubert
standard will be outlined and a how a primary assumption of fingerprint analysis violates a number of
these standards. Also, to further strengthen the case as to why fingerprint analysis should not be

Every single ridge has a row of sweat pores. When sweat seeps out of these pores, it runs over the
ridges. Thus, when a finger, palm, or foot touches a surface, an impression is made which in technical
terms is known as a latent print. However, when a print is collected from a police station directly from
the source, this is known as an exemplar print (Haber and Haber, 2008; Creswell, 2015). The science
of fingerprint analysis rests on three, recently, controversial assumptions: Firstly, the ridge patterns
never change during the life of a person; secondly, no two individuals will have the same ridge
patterns; lastly, the transferability of an impression of that uniqueness to another surface. (Gianelli,
2006). This allowed for fingerprint analysts to form a procedure which other experts around the world
are invited to use, known as ACE V.
ACE V
ACE V which is an acronym which stands for Analysis in which analysts categorise certain features of
the print. Comparison where the latent print is compared to the known print of a suspect. Evaluation is
the stage in which the examiner is expected to make an inference as to whether the latent print
matches the print of the suspect or not. Finally, the process of Verification whereby, the analyst sends
their data to another expert to confirm their inference (Lawless, 2009). While this loose methodology

In fact, using Adderall and other cognitive enhancing drugs in the workplace is a controversial issue
for many companies. Similar to taking off label medicines in football games, many people consider
taking drugs in the workplace as an unethical action. If the management promote employees who use
Adderall to boost their working performance, it will be unfair for others who only work by their
natural abilities. In contrast, if the promotion is based on medicines usages, this will violate employees
privacy. Besides the ethical issues, the management should also consider the strategy issues in order to
make a wise personnel decision. This means that the management should be able to predict how the
decision affects the company in the future. For example, although Adderall and other cognitive
enhancing drugs can help people to feel stronger, more energetic and exciting, their benefits will
dissipate after a period of time. If the employees stop taking Adderall, they might not maintain their
working performance. As a result, their productivity might be decreased, and the profit of the
company will be negatively affected. Some people believe Adderall may help them to improve their

The Islamic World
After the death of Ali in 661, the Muslim world was on unstable ground. As a cousin of Muhammad
and a link in the direct progeny of The Prophet, his death and succession would cause much strife ad
bloodshed in generations to come. Seizing power as caliph in 661 was Mu awiya b. Abu Sufyan, the
first of the Umayyad family to hold this position where an Umayyad would maintain the throne for the
next nearly 90 years. Throughout the time of the Umayyad rule from 661 to 750, these caliphs had a
tremendous impact on not only the Arabian Peninsula, but most of the nations through North Africa,
Southwestern Europe, and east into Central Asia. It s hard to measure the effects of this troubled
dynasty without speculation, but it s fair to say they had both highs and many lows. The Umayyads
consolidated power and eventually improved the governance of their growing empire, expanded their
own economic capabilities, and also advanced Arab and Muslim culture throughout the region.
However, rapid imperial expansion, tribal feuds, intra family conflict over successions, and the
misconduct of some caliphs leaves some wondering if more harm or good was done during the
Umayyad reign. When Mu awiya became caliph, some of the first actions he took were to begin the
initial consolidations and centralizations of power (not to the extent of later Umayyad caliphs), begin
more military expansions, and used his skills as a politician and statesman to hold the Muslim world

Friends Like These Dorothy Rowe Analysis
Do you think that the bond from others is important? Friendship is an important subject within the
world and for this reason it is important to understand other learn about other people and how they

things in the future. Others might say that bond is important because it forms who we might become,
It path of friendship is like love, loyalty and connections. To begin with, bond is important because it
forms who we might become in the future. For example, on paragraph 2 of Friends Like These... by
Dorothy Rowe it states, More fundamentally, friendship are essential to our sense of who we

possible interpretations of what is going on around us, drawn from our past experience. This
demonstrates that our brains does not reveal the world. Life is like a journey you never know what you
are going to get. Just like how you don t know who the world would turn out to be in the future.

animals are bonded to some things people do like laugh or yawn. As a result, it is a connection that

Currently, IKEA is the market leader in the distribution of furniture and home decorative items. IKEA

In Russia, IKEA has been operating since 1991, but did not have an open store until March 2000. The
first store opened in Russia being in Khimki (Moscow). After March 2000, more stores have been
creating. Since opening the first store IKEA has poured over $4 billion in the country. Russia became
a good consumer that is why, IKEA plans to open more stores in Russia even with the minor setback
with dealing with the government.
Current Marketing Strategy The strategy of the IKEA group in Russia was to invest in a market which
can give a big profit in a long term. While the other foreign companies started leaving their businesses
from Russia, Ingvar Kamprad saw a big opportunity there, and started investing in the Russian market.
The result was good, in Ingvar s words: IKEA becomes the main supplier of home furniture to the
normal Russian families and our sales in Russia will exceed those in our old home country Sweden
(International Marketing, N. Ghauri amp; Cateora, 2010). The fact that Ingvar was the only owner
who wanted to keep his company in Russia may give IKEA more power and a better competitive
advantage in the future. The IKEA group sells quality furniture at a low price, to maintain a strong
competitor. For that, the company has to try to cut cost without losing quality in the products that it
sells. IKEA organized their stores in a different way than its competitors. While its competitors put its

The Reflection Of The Observation Of Vertical Jumping
Vertical Jumping
Volleyball, basketball, high jump, hurdling, long jump, and pole vaulting all have a certain motor skill
in common and that motor skill is jumping. Jumping is a gross motor skill which coordinates
movements which requires the use of the large muscles in the arms, legs, torso, and feet. Furthermore,
jumping requires strength, balance, coordination, body awareness, and motor planning. Our lower
extremity contains multiple muscles in order for a person to jump. Many of the muscles in the lower
extremity cross more than one joint. The basic muscles that are used during jumping are the rectus
femoris, gastrocnemius, semimembranosus, semitendinosus, and the long head of biceps femoris. The
semimembranosus, semitendinosus, and the long head of the biceps femoris are muscles that make up
the hamstrings. Our task was to observe and report a certain motor skill and behavior in different
stages of learning. Our group observed Toddlers/Preschool, Grade School, Jr. High, High School, and
College students jumping in a non structure play (like recess), structure (like PE class or sport
practice), and a competitive environment.
Toddler/Preschool
Toddlers and Preschoolers love to jump and they ll attempt to do it whenever and wherever as much as
possible. They seem to have a fascination with jumping off the ground and momentarily floating in the
air. Jumping is a required movement in most children s games, sports, and activities. Children have

My Life Of A Military Family
All my life I have had a passion for learning about different cultures and peoples. This passion most
likely comes from my unique upbringing. I was born into a military family. I have had opportunity to
live is different places and learn many things about the world and the people in it. As a child of a
military family I have had so much exposure to a variety of diverse cultures, so I tend to be rather
open minded. Having been an outsider myself plenty of times before, I find that I am more accepting
of people with different worldviews than most Americans. By and large, because I have had to adapt
to new cultures and make new friends every couple of years, I now have excellent social skills, easily
finding common ground and striking up conversations with people from a variety of backgrounds.
My passions for other cultures and learning about different people became even more important to me
as I went to university. I was accepted into The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and I
applied for campus housing. I wanted to live in one building and that residence hall was called Phillips
Hawkins, it was also known as the International Residence Hall. I lived in Phillips Hawkins for 3
years. As a resident for part of the first year and as a Resident Advisor for the rest. During these 3
years I made many friends from 38 different countries. One of those countries was Japan and these
students came from 5 different universities: Kyoto Sangyo University, Nagoya University, Nara

Film Noir Conventions
What is Film Noir? Film Noir literally means Black Film in French, the French coined this after World
War 2 when they were finally able to view American films again after the war and they found that
these films were quite different than what they used to be. These films had a completely different
atmosphere, a different emotion that was displayed. Film Noir had a very distrustful air about its
nature, lacking integrity. Every scene was cloaked in darkness and the plot had a looming sense of
despair (TheBook). The war left America in dark times and Film Noir was one of the ways from them
to express it. Film Noir was extremely popular in America through the 1940 s to the 1950 s. Hundreds
of American films were under the Film Noir classification. But what was Film Noir? Was it a Genre, a
style, a period in time? Paul Schrader, in an article about Film Noir said, Film Noir is not a genre. It is
not defined, as are the western and gangster genres, by conventions of setting and conflict, but rather
by the more subtle qualities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several key characteristics that are easily seen in Film Noir. Most of the film has minimal
lighting. Many of the scenes are at night or in a room with a singular dim light source. The actors and
the environment receive the same amount of light, blending them in a way. The audience only sees
what they need to see, the rest is in a shroud of mystery. Film Noir also used lines and shapes to
convey feeling in the film. They would use oblique and vertical lines, oblique to give the feeling of
instability and vertical to evoke tenuity. They would also use jagged shapes such as triangles and
trapezoids to make the audience feel uneasy and tense. Film Noir also had an obsession with the use of
water. Characters were often by the sea or lakes, many scenes would be shot in the rain, and even if it
had not rained the roads would commonly be glazed with the glossy sheen of wet pavement and
pothole

Phillis Wheatley Poem

The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing
The Fifth Child is the masterpiece of Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing. Lessing herself described it as
a horror story, but we can also put it into the genre of social psychological novels. She declared: I
hated writing it. It was sweating blood. I was very glad when it was done. It was an upsetting thing to
write obviously, it goes very deep into me somewhere. It is a brilliant novel which deals not just with
the social aspect of family life in England at the end of 19th century but with human psyches in
general. Harriet and David Lovatt are a conventional and traditional couple who met at the office party
and immediately fell in love because of the similar interests that they share. One of their common
desires is to have a pretty family house in the country and produce a large family of six or eight
children. All of their friends, family members and relatives are completely shocked by their odd wish.
Slowly they start building a family life; they buy a huge house in the country, and have the first baby.
Ever since they have their first baby their house is full of family members, relatives and friends for
every holiday, just like they have always dreamed of. Besides the fact that Harriet does not have easy
pregnancies and all the work she has to do makes her completely exhausted, she enjoys having a
house full of people and to impose on them with her perfect life. Everything is just like Harriet and

The Lottery By Shirley Jackson And The Sisterhood Of The...
In the stories The Lottery written by Shirley Jackson and The Sisterhood of the Night by Steven
Millhauser both talk about the consequences that someone or the entire village can go through by
going against the rules and regulations of a tradition. Observing a tradition is a form of togetherness
among every individual and it must be practiced in the right way. Tradition plays an important role in
the lives of villagers and it also shines light on how customs and tradition should be practiced
according to the way our ancestors have done it in the past. However, it is not one person or a group of
people s idea, it is a laid down rules and laws that can never be changed by anyone regardless of what
the situation might hold on to. Most people tend to invent laws that some traditions do not allow,
which can lead to conflict and disorderliness in such land. Just like the way at the village square. But

Essay On Art History 6k
The item that I chose for my Art History 6K Project is a ceramic plate made in Egypt, or more
specifically, Fayyoum. The label accompanying the art piece included a year, 2007, which I assume is
the date in which the piece was found. The plate is made of clay, hardened through heat, and finished
with a glossy sealer. The color scheme of the plate is very bright and colorful giving off a happy vibe.
The ceramic plate itself is an off white color with splashes of blue and green throughout. Due to the
bright color composition, it must ve been used during celebrations of some sort. Despite not able to

It could ve been purposefully done, but judging from how uneven and blotchy the color is, it makes
more sense to assume that the area had been worn out. If this is the case then what was placed there
that could have created that mark? And what was the purpose of the brown square in the middle of the
plate? The outline around the square has a lot of depth so I inferred that the outline was created not
through paint but was rather carved out. I thought that the plate could ve been used for food, however,
if it was then there wouldn t be a need for the brown square in the middle. In general, what was this
ceramic plate used for if not for food? Another thing that I found interesting was that in the back of the
plate, there are four moon shaped platform to help raise the plate. The platform was placed in the
middle and in the formation so that it looked like the corners of a square. I think the reason why the
ceramic plate is raised is because it was probably used to hold something important. This work of art
relates to a broader religious context because the calligraphy used on it reminds me of the calligraphy

Hamlet is a tragedy by William Shakespeare where the main character, Hamlet,

Throughout the play, Hamlet uses many mythological allusions to show his feelings towards other

Hamlet uses Hecuba to exaggerate the difference between the queen in the play who is full of grief
and sorrow, and Queen Gertrude who has remarried quickly and shows little to no emotion for the
death of her first husband. Another example occurs during Hamlet s soliloquy when he imagines his
mother, Like Niobe, all tears (Ham. I. ii. 151). Hamlet not only wishes his mother would mourn and
take revenge, but he also implies responsibility for his father s death. In Greek mythology, Niobe
boasted she had many children and as a result, the gods came down and murdered her children.
Painters and sculptures have portrayed Niobe as a crying woman because of her guilt she felt knowing
she caused her children to die. The fact that Hamlet uses these comparisons suggests his mother is
undoubtedly responsible for his father s death. Finish and relate to thesis
Hamlet also compares himself to the demi god Hercules in Act 1 scene 2: My father s brother but no
more like my father/ Than I to Hercules (I, ii, 152 153). This mythological allusion is important
because Hamlet is comparing himself to Hercules who is known as a strong warrior and earned a place
on Mount Olympus with the gods. Hamlet is saying that his uncle is very much different than his
father, like Hamlet is very much different than Hercules. Hercules is seen as a superhero of Greek
mythology, which is a great difference of Hamlet because Hamlet is in no way seen as a superhero or
someone to look up to. Hamlet

The Philippines produces a similar annual GDP of approximately A$388.81B with growth, surpassing
Malaysia, at 5.9% (World Bank, 2015). However, the Philippine economy involves itself less in
international trading than Malaysia; reflected in a mere Current Account Balance of A$262M (CEIC,
2016). Whilst both economies seem very similar, Malaysia has less than one third the population of
the Philippines (World Bank, 2016). This indicates, as illustrated by Graph 2.1, that Malaysia s GDP
per capita, GDP minus the effect of population, is significantly larger than the Philippines (Economist
Intelligence Unit, 2017). Therefore, total economic efficiency and productivity in Malaysia is
considerably higher than the Philippines; with a smaller population producing greater output. This
high economic efficiency, which creates wealth and jobs, also increases levels of employment (CIA,

economic stability. Both nations have also reduced interest rates through monetary policy (Global

Even though there are also many advantages of a sole proprietorship, there are other alternative forms
of business organizations that I would recommend, such as a general partnership. A general
partnership is a form of business organization that comes into existence when two or more persons
carry on business together with a view to a profit. In order to form a general partnership, a series of
criteria must be met and understood such as; the partnership must register its name and obtain a
business license, a partner cannot be employed by the partnership, all benefits of the partnership
business must be received by the partners directly, all partners are personally liable for all the
obligations of the business. There are many reasons why I would recommend a general partnership for
Stan, rather than a sole proprietorship. The first reason is because there is an option of a limited
liability partnership, which means that individual partners are not personally liable for the professional
negligence of their partners and some other obligations if certain requirements are met. Another reason
why I would recommend a general partnership is because the partner legislation in each jurisdiction
provides default rules, which is a kind of standard form agreement for the internal organization of a
partnership that applies unless the partners agree to some other arrangement. These default rules limit

Is there truly any justice in the novel The Stranger, written by Albert

Is there truly any justice in the novel The Stranger, written by
Albert Camus? This is a question that naturally protrudes throughout the novel, as it is not abundantly
clear what Meursault, the protagonist, was, in fact, put on trial for. At the beginning of the second part
of the narrative, it is understood that he is put on trial for the murder of an Arab; however, it later
comes to our attention that the murder was not the primary reason of his trial, and perhaps not even an
essential one for that matter. The fact remains that
Meursault was undoubtedly put on trial, not for the murder committed, but for being the way he was:

The answer is simple: it does not relate to the murder of the
Arab. Being the representative of society, the jury opposes Meursault and accuses him of not
conforming to society s natural ways, and being what we nowadays refer to as the odd one out . They
exclude him from society for his odd clear cut and sincere demeanor, and for his manifestation of an
inexpressive character.
Another example is the moment in which the magistrate, a local member of the judiciary having
limited jurisdiction, especially in criminal cases, questioned Meursault. In this particular scene, the
magistrate changes the topic rather abruptly from his love for Maman, to which he responded he loved
the same as anyone (p. 67), to the murder scene.
What followed was a vast discussion on Meursault s belief in God, which he felt rather apathetic
about; however, the magistrate, waving a crucifix to his face refers to him as the antichrist (p. 71). And
later, during the trial, the judge and the prosecuting attorney seem more intrigued by the fact that
Meursault did not grieve at his mother s funeral and got involved with Marie the day after it, than the
actual act that had been committed: the assassination of a man.
The majority of the witnesses that had been called only supported the argument of his callous nature,
as they very well knew that Meursault was frighteningly candid, and could not, or would not, create a

Caesar Augustus Contributions
History is made up of individuals who were just living the life they wanted to live. Their actions ended
up making an impact on our world as we know it. At the time they probably had no clue that the
actions they put forth in their time would eventually lead up to the world we know today. Their life
events may not have been grand, but they were enough to make an impact. Caesar Augustus is one
example of a person in history who led a successful life.
Born Gaius Octavius on September 23, 63 B.C., in Velletri, Italy. Augustus was a sickly child with few
connections. Although, one connection he did have was being the great nephew of Julius Caesar.
Augustus was known by three different names throughout his life. From birth to 44 B.C. he was
known as Octavius, in 44 B.C. he was adopted and changed his name to Octavian and in 26 B.C. the
Roman Senate conferred on him the name Augustus. His father was a senator and governor in the
Roman Republic and passed away when Augustus was four years old; his mother Atai was Caesar s
niece. In his younger years his grandmother Julia Ceasaris helped raise him; she was the sister of
Julius Caesar.
Augustus donned the toga, the Roman sign of manhood, at age 16, and began taking on
responsibilities through his family connections. At the time Rome was dangerous and engulfed in a
civil war, one faction of the war was led by his great uncle Caesar. He started on his path of
responsibilities by leaving for Hispania to fight alongside his

receive greater. You have to change the way you think about yourself and the way you handle things,
such as yourself, your emotions, your finance, and your relationships in order to be successful in life.
You must know your purpose. People who don t know their purpose are like people who fight with
their eyes closed, they are just beating the air and hitting nothing. I tell them in order to find your
purpose, you must find what you are passionate about. Find what you love to do and you will then
have found your purpose. When passion develops purpose comes alive. I then tell them to make a plan
for your life. If you fail to plan for your life you plan to fail in your life. All successful people have a
plan. We call them strategies. Every time anyone walks thru the doors, they see this message. It also
helps me to keep the members motivated to change.

Similarities Between Headmaster And Frederick Douglass
Struggling with Slavery: Life of Frederick Douglass vs. Roots
Kunta Kinte and Frederick Douglass with extremely contrasting backgrounds, resulting in different
lives down the road. Although they are not very similar in results or background they are both
explaining how slavery worked and why it was wrong for people to have slaves. Frederick Douglass
had a privileged life because he was a house boy, but Kunta as a field hand did not have many
privileges. For example, because Frederick Douglass was a house boy he got better clothing, food and
shelter than Kunta who had rags as clothes and very little food. On a completely different note, the
gist of both stories include facts about the harsh punishments created by the slaves masters even for ...

On one hand, Frederick was born a slave in America and raised as a Christian on a plantation without
knowledge of his family. Douglass stated, I was born in Tuckahoe, near Hillsborough, and about
twelve miles from Easton in Talbot county, Maryland (Douglass, 1). This piece of evidence is showing
where he is from and where his journey began. But on the other hand, Kunta was born free in Africa
within his Mandinka village of Juffure, he was raised learning the muslim faith living off the Gambia
River and he knew his family. At the beginning of the movie they had shown Kunta Kinte in his
Mandinka village going through man training, this also showed his family which tells you that he
knew where he was from and the people surrounding him. Furthermore, Kunta had to cross the
Atlantic Ocean and go through all the stages of becoming a slave and Frederick Douglass was just
born into slavery. As a matter of fact the movie showed the journey for Kunta and how tough it was
for him while the book portrayed a subtle more laid back city slave lifestyle. Also, in the movie Kunta
had fiddler to rely on and to act as a best friend but in the book it did not speak of any friends for
Frederick Douglass. This was probably because he felt he was higher up than the other slaves and he
even made them feel inferior or it is simply because nobody wanted to be associated with a troubled

Effective Use Of Cinematic Techniques In Tim Burton s Films
Tim Burton, known for his movies that, most of the time, can fit into the horrific genre. As a result of
his troubled childhood, Tim Burton directed mostly horror movies. He is well known for his films
Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands and Alice in Wonderland. Tim Burton was
looked at as weird when he was a little kid. He once said Everybody in the whole world has been
misperceived. At school, you wanted something to come across this way and it didn t come across... It
s why you struggle as a child and you draw and you want to create. There is an impulse to be seen. For
yourself: what you are. . He grew up to make his all of his movies with at least a bit of horror added
into the movie.
Tim Burton uses lighting to create a certain kind of mood depending on how the characters feel in a
lot of his movies. Three good examples would be Charlie and the Chocolate factory, Alice in
Wonderland, and Edward Scissorhands. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton uses
lighting to show how poor and sad Charlie s life is. In the movie, The lighting turns darker when the
camera transitions into Charlie s house. When the camera focused on the inside of the factory, The
lighting turned bright to show the excitement. In the movie Alice in Wonderland, the lighting is always
bright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Edward scissorhands, every time Edward moves his fingers, a loud scissor sound plays. The sound
is edited in there to remind the audience of how sharp and dangerous Edward would be. In Charlie and
the Chocolate Factory, a little girl eats the special new bubble gum and turns into a giant blueberry.
When the girl is rolled, the people edit in a little ground sharing and the sound of breaking stone.
Those sounds are edited to show how large the girl was compared to what she was. As the girl is
stretching, it make kind of an inflating sound like someone is inflating a balloon. In Alice in
Wonderland there isn t a lot of

Information Retrieval During The 1950s
Chapter 1
1.1 Introduction
Information Retrieval
Information retrieval can be used in a broad term to mean physically bringing out what we have stored
or kept earlier in order to use the information on it. For example, we have retrieved information when
we retrieve our international passports from our pockets in order to copy the number on it into a form.
It can also be described as the act of getting information, relevant to a need
As an academic field of study however, it can be defined as ... finding material...of an unstructured
nature...that satisfies an information need from within large collections... (C. Manning et al, 2008).
This kind of information retrieval, used to be limited to a few people or professional searchers, as
access to computers was limited at that time while the internet was not yet available. This however is
no longer the case in the developed world as most people retrieve information by themselves when
they search the web. The earliest form of computerised information retrieval began in the 1940s due to
an increase in the production of scientific literature and availability of computers. This however was
based on author, title and key words, rather than full text searches which came later. (Cleverdon, C.W.
ACM press (1991).According to Mark Sanderson and W. Bruce Croft the capability of retrieval
system grew as technology developed and processor speed and storage capacity increased. As the
development of these systems led to movement away from manual

How Did The Maccabees Influence The Jewish
The Jews shifted their allegiance to Alexander and in return Alexander allowed the Jews to observe
their own laws, gave them exemption from tribute tax during the Sabbath years. Alexander also
encouraged the Jewish people to live in Alexandria, Egypt and gave them privileges reserved for his
own Greek people. When Alexander died in 323 B. C., some of his generals divided the empire among
themselves: The Ptolemies of Egypt, the Seleucids of Persia and parts of Asia Minor, and the
Antigonids of Macedon. (Intertestamental Period New Testament Background, 2001).
At first, the Egyptian Ptolemaic Empire controlled the Jews from 320 198 B. C., and then Seleucid
(Syrian) Empire, around 198 B. C., acquired control over the Jewish populace. While the Ptolemaic
Empire was tolerant of the Jewish culture and religion, the Seleucid Empire was not. The Seleucids
made determined efforts to force Hellenism on the Jews. Some accepted it, but most did not (Halley,
2000). The Greek Seleucid, Antiochus, severely punished the unaccepting Jews which eventually
provoked the Maccabees (Hasmonean Era) to revolt. By 164 B. C., the Maccabees controlled the area
around Jerusalem and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows how engrained the Hellenistic culture was and perhaps how it influenced the Apostle Paul,
within his Hellenistic Jewish culture, to write as he did (Russell, 1991 2016.). Eddy (2014) confirms
the time period of the Hellenistic influences that Russell discusses in his work. Two cultures are
residing side by side and a certain amount of melding is expected to take place. While this is true
about language, societal practices such as commerce, schooling and language occurring, the Judean
religious practices remained true to its tenets. The Jewish community in large retained its customs and
culture (Eddy

Gorgeous Analysis
The music inspires more togetherness and also impacts few little things that change the way of
character s behavior, personality, an attitude which creates conflict down the road. Music itself is
really persuasive that causes the pace of the story to slow down or speed up and later makes a huge
impact on the story. Music from Belmont Harbor and Gorgeous were pretty reversed from each other,
especially when having different music playing in the background while doing a task that is important.
In the Belmont Harbor, a chapter written by John Porcellino from The Prefect Example, John
Porcellino listens to Punk Rock music which was pretty famous when he was a kid and the music was
an inspiring moment because it ought them how the world really is (add the citation). On the other
hand, music in Gorgeous written by Cathy Johnson, her way of implying the music in the beginning of
the story was pretty adroit since she only uses the music once in the story. Likewise, she was able to
deliver many kinds of details from only a few panels in the page ( add the citation). In the Gorgeous,
the music from the beginning of the story had a feeling of modern pop. However, Porcellino played
Punk Rock music whenever he would enter someone else car and he would always like to suggest the
music to his friends. With that in mind, it is really fascinating to think that the outcomes would be so
much different from both stories just by the music that characters choose to listen to. In the end, the

Examples Of Revenge In The Duchess Of Malfi
John Webster s The Duchess of Malfi can be viewed as a revenge tragedy. The Duchess was murdered
on the order of her two brothers, Cardinal and Ferdinand, because of her sexual transgressions and her
secret marriage with her subordinate household steward, Antonio, with whom she had also borne two
children. Through this play, Webster addresses many issues that were highly prevalent in Jacobean
age. This play is a concoction of issues like social mobility, gender norms, revenge and also has
violence in large proportions. We see that class status does not protect the Duchess against men s
violent acts. The murder of the Duchess is not really considered a murder by the brothers but an act
that is done to protect their family name in the society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men were supposed to be the powerful ones and women wee meant to do the household work and
bear children. The power and authority lied with the men while women were not given importance in
matters of authority. We see this when Ferdinand and Cardinal attempt to regulate her behavior during
their absence by forbidding her to remarry. However, some women did have authority. This was the
time of Queen Elizabeth who had ample power and had worked hard to keep her reputation in a time
when there was rising gender apprehensions. Such was the case with the Duchess of Malfi as well.
She was a woman with power and authority and wealth. The Duchess was a woman of strength and
did not have a fear of defying authority. Even after her brothers had told her not to remarry, the
Duchess went against their wishes and remarried that also beneath her status. Her brothers see her
defiance as not merely a challenge to their authority but also an act that has hit them hard and made it
imperative for them to teach her a lesson. The society wanted to curb and control women mentality. In
a time period when the mentality of the people were to not let women have freedom to act as they like,
was the Duchess, an all powerful, economically and sexually independent women standing up for
what she believed in. she appeared as a threat to society. A threat who had to be controlled before
other women saw her and began defying openly. After

Religious historian Karen Armstrong defines religion as a search for transcendence, going beyond the
self. It s said that the only way to understand Buddhism is to practice it. Through practice, one
perceives its transformative power. A Buddhism that remains in the realm of concepts and ideas is not
Buddhism. The robes, ritual and other trappings of religion are not a corruption of Buddhism, as some
imagine, but expressions of it. In what ways has the religious group you selected contributed to
American culture?
Many Buddhist concepts and terms are present and used in western society: Karma is used frequently
in the sense of fate The wise Buddhist mentor is a frequent character in movies Nirvana is the name of
a band Vegetarians refer to Buddhist reasoning Reincarnation is in the public awareness Koans are
used to describe inscrutable concepts The Dalai Lama is an internationally known figure Smiling
Buddha and similar figures are frequently seen in garden shops Buddha, Jesus and Mohammed
references are equally well understood. American bookstores are filled with volumes on Zen and the
art of this or that; Hollywood makes movies on the Dalai Lama and a Nazi s conversion to Tibetan
Buddhism; and TIME magazine runs cover stories on America s fascination with Buddhism. Buddhist
ideas appear in New Age religions, psychology, medicine, and even sports and business. Buddhist
values are cited in social movements for feminism, peace, ecology, and animal

  • 2. The Trojan War Facts Trojan War Myth/Fact Tell me, O Muse, of that ingenious hero who traveled far and wide after he had sacked the famous town of Troy. (Butler 1835 1902) The epic poem The Iliad and The Odyssey, is the story of the Greek struggle to rescue Queen Helen from the Trojan captors. Which led to an all out war between the Achaean Greeks and the Trojans, the name of this war is called the Trojan War. The Trojan War was a legendary conflict between the early Greeks and the people of Troy in western Anatolia. In the original story, Paris, son of the Trojan king, ran off with Helen, wife of Menelaus. Menelaus demanded to have her back, but the Trojans refused, so his brother Agamemnon built a wooden horse that he took into battle with him and led a Greek ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The war apparently lasted ten years, when the Greeks finally withdrew, leaving behind a large wooden horse with a raiding party concealed inside. A man named Sinon was left behind and he convinced the Trojans to bring the horse inside the city. When the Trojans bought the horse into the city the party of Greeks opened up the horse and raided the city. Men were massacred, and women carried off. It also states that the Gods found the war to be so interesting that they participated themselves, and helped the Greeks take the city of Troy. No one really knows if this war was a myth or a fact due to the fact that it is presented only briefly in an epic poem. In order to find evidence of the war, historians have gone to the site of where the war would ve taken place and excavated artifacts to prove wither the Trojan was a myth or a fact. But their research started off from the very beginning, which was the source of the Trojan War ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The United States Of America The modern society is work driven that people need to work hard to realize the general community development goals and personal goals. Thus, work has become an integral part of the day to day living of an average American. One needs to always have something to do in mind and strive to grow on the job to experience greater financial success and skill development. Whether or not a person has multiple work opportunities or succeeds in their work life is influenced by multiple factors, some of which are within the control of the individual in question. The United States of America has a unique work culture that is predominantly shaped by the way that the society is stratified and the assertions that people build towards their work life. However, one thing that remains certain is the way that culture affects the direction that a person takes in employment, on top of the individual ability to overcome social obstacles in order to secure employment that is favorable to an individual in terms of skill and preference. Suffice to say, the milestones attained in one s work life is contingent to the institutional and cultural support availed by their external environment, personal psychological strength and belief also plays a part. Growing up as a member of a minority group in American does mean that a person needs to embody a positive attitude works. (1993) Learning About Cultural Diversity through Literature. Children s Book and Media Review: Vol. 14: Iss 5, Article 2. Excerpt from The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss Now, the Star Belly Sneetches Had bellies with stars. The Plain Belly Sneetches Had none upon thars. Those stars weren t so big. They were really so small You might think such a thing wouldn t matter at all. But, because they had stars, all the Star Belly Sneetches Would brag, We re the best kind of Sneetch on the Beaches. With their snoots in the air, they would sniff and they d snort We ll have nothing to do with the Plain Belly sort! Essay Earlier in the semester, the class was introduced to topics such as politics within Children s Literature and learning how to be cultural critics. Both topics generated discussion that was centered around the contributions that were made within Children s Literature and how they could deepen young reader s understanding of the content presented to them in children books. I believe the book The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss would ve been a great addition to the class reading list. In this book, Dr. Seuss discussed topics such as discrimination, prejudice, acceptance, and tolerance which are all topics people wouldn t think are suitable for a children s book. The themes were used as underlying messages throughout the story and the illustration presented a visual to readers, so that they could have a clear understanding of what Dr. Seuss was writing. The importance of the message was to bring awareness to the issues that are present within society. Other stories include The Zax , Too Many Daves , and What Was I Scared Of? . These stories all contribute to reaching out to help young readers analyze and further understand others who may not always be the same as them. In Dr. Suess s The Zax , one Zax was going North and one South but because of pride neither one moved to accommodate the other out of respect. Too Many Daves highlights the lack of originality. It teaches children to stand out, make a difference. What Was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Reflection About Geography Every other year, my high school offers a College in the Schools (CIS) geography course. In this course, there is one assignment that all the upperclassmen would always complain about. As an underclassman, I had dreaded the year that I was going to be receiving this assignment due to having a tendency to save my projects for last minute. I will never forget the map that taught me that procrastination makes the process of completing assignments more difficult, especially on a project that is for a college class. In the beginning of November 2016, my junior year, our college geography class received our quarter project: a map of the world. Our teacher, Mr.Sharstrom, assigned our class a large number of physical features that our maps needed to include such as rivers, lakes, islands, mountain ranges, seas, oceans, and deserts. Mr.Sharstrom required us to include all seven continents and a key that showed distinctions in the different physical features of the world. The maps needed to be to scale and show a minimum amount of distortion as possible. When we received our project, our geography teacher warned us, This project will be time consuming and you will not want to wait until the week before to start your maps. After communicating expectations with the class, a majority of my classmates began to work on their maps. I knew that my family was traveling to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, for Thanksgiving break, so I wanted to attempt to complete as much of the map as possible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That s why I was really surprised when he joined the Rising especially since he had to run the entire way there, while Cassia and Indie got to canoe. This is significant because Ky hated the Rising with all of his heart because it s the reason his parents were killed, but despite his hate for it, he joined it anyway to be with Cassia. Getting this message from the book was pretty self explanatory because in the first book they had no disagreements, so their relationship was perfect. When their journey through the Carving came to the point where they had to start thinking about if they were going to join the Rising or the Farmers and they both wanted to go to different destinations, their relationship became full of bickering. Research Paper On The Five People You Meet In Heaven The Five People You Meet in Heaven The Five People You Meet in Heaven is an amazing book that shows how every life is connected, and that every life matters. The Five People You Meet in Heaven is a book about an older man named Eddie who is a maintenance worker for an amusement park called Ruby Pier where he works all of his life and his dad before him. Ruby Pier was built some seventy five years ago and has changed immensely since it was built. The Five People You Meet in Heaven describes heaven as meeting five people who impacted your life or you impacted theirs and teach you a lesson. The first person Eddie meets is a man named Joseph Corvelzchik better known as the Blue Man Eddie did not know the Blue Man very well but Eddie killed him accidentally and Eddie had no idea he killed him. When Eddie was younger his brother and him were playing catch and Joe, Eddie s brother, threw the ball over Eddie s and Eddie instinctively turned to go get the ball and was almost hit by a car who swerved out of the way to avoid hitting Eddie. The man driving the car was the Blue Man who swerved around Eddie and swerved around another car eventually swerving down an alleyway and dying of a heart attack. • 12. Deontological And Teleological Ethics Introduction This essay will include the background and development of deontological and teleological ethics. Also, it will compare and contrast the absolute and relative ethics. Finally, it will contain the ethical issues which can affect the operational activities of the business. In order to support the points, it will also include the real life examples. AC 1.1 Background and development of ethical approaches Teleological ethic this describes an ethical theory which judges the rightness of an action in terms of an external goal or purpose. So, according to a teleological theory, consequences always play some part, be it small or large, in the determination of what one should or should not do. Not all teleological theories are consequentialist. John Rawls theory of justice is teleological, but not consequentialist because it claims that consequences are only part of what must be considered when determining what policy is morally just. For example, animal testing is the moral choice to put animal through pain or not. The reason behind defining animal testing in a make up factory it is for a greater good as if the animal gets hurt now, people are saved later as people will be able to use the products that are developed and safe to use later. This is teleological because the moral choice was decided upon the probability of a good outcome: the animal is tested upon, people would be able to get a safe makeup products. A consequentialist action is one where the being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, bitrate radical (NO3-) in the mobile phase has the stronger background absorption among 190 ~ 240 nm as shown in Fig.2a [40]. Since the UV detection wavelength of alantolactone and isoalantolactone was also in the range of 190 to 240 nm as shown in Fig.2b [41], AgNO3 in mobile phase can cause extremely strong background absorption interference, as shown in Fig.2c and Fig.2d. The new employee will require a combination of side by side training where they are able to watch, listen and learn. The new employee will also need to know where they can access this information if they get lost in the process, in some cases this may be found on the company intranet under user guides. These user guides usually show the process using a combination of instructions and screen shots to ensure easy to follow directions. During the training phase it is important to check in with the new employee or have regular coaching sessions where certain areas of difficulty can be addressed and gone through. It is also important once the training period has come to an end and your new employee is ready to start capturing the data that they again have a period of side by side assistance. This would entail watching the new employee go through the motions of data entry providing guidance when required. With her rule over the Commonwealth Nations lasting for over fifty years, the Queen has been very much popular with the public, not just in Great Britain or amongst the Commonwealth Nations, but also amongst all the nations of the world. The Queen s life might have only begun as the first child to the Duke and Duchess of York, but instantly she came into attention of the nation with her strong bond with the then head of state, King George V, who was also Elizabeth s grandfather. The qualities of Elizabeth had been exemplary from the very start. Although a little mischievous as a child, Elizabeth was quite mannered, polite and respectful. After her father, King George VI, was crowned, Elizabeth became the natural successor to the throne. With this face, a sense of responsibility arose within her, making her more active towards the matters of national interest. She had already become famous amongst the public with her very first broadcast to console, strengthen and assure the war stricken children of the nation. Her efforts to assist the country in the tome of war showed her courage, bravery and love for the nation and its people. Prototyping And Its Use Of Prototyping Prototyping and Its Use in the SDLC Group 7 Daniel Mingledorff John Kiessling Seth Park University of North Georgia Abstract Introduction: This paper is to research and explore the use of prototyping in the system development life cycle. Prototyping is a very important part of the SDLC, allowing the developers to better learn what the users want, and if what they are creating will work in an efficient and fluid manner. This paper will evaluate what prototyping is, what it is best to be used for, what the downfalls are, and when to not use it. Problem Statement: When a system has requirements that are not well defined, needs to be stable, is complex, or is using a new technology and there is a need for fast development, it is hard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prototyping also allows for quick system development when there may be a short period of time in which to develop the system. Prototyping and Its Use in the SDLC Prototyping offers many advantages in software development to both the development team and to the end user. In general, prototyping allows for simultaneous development within the analysis, design, and implementation stages of the systems development life cycle. Following the traditional waterfall method of development can often lead to failure in understanding user requirements, which can cause massive delays and costly mistakes. When it comes to human computer interaction (HCI), one of the best techniques to bridge the gap between the user and the developer is prototyping. This type of approach has become a commonplace practice for user centered development (Tudhope, 2009, pp. 354 355). Software prototyping is an approach to building software that allows the engineers to present the functionality (even if only limited) of the product amidst development. However, this software may not represent the exact logic flow in the final product. The popularity of this of this model has increased because it allows developers to examine and include customer requirements early in the development cycle. This also allows an increased amount of feedback from the customer and a better understanding of what the software is intended to do (SDLC Software Prototype Model, 2014). When a customer ... • 18. Antibiotic Resistance Lab Report INTRODUCTION An antibiotic is a medicine that inhibits the growth of or destroys microorganisms, including bacteria (Microbiology Society, 2018). Antibiotics work by many different mechanisms, but most commonly inhibit enzymes that are critical for cell wall biosynthesis, protein synthesis, transcription, DNA replication, or synthesis of metabolites. They also can interfere with the integrity and permeability of the bacterial cell membrane. Antibiotic resistance occurs due to the strong selection pressure that antibiotics impose on a bacterium community. Most bacteria are affected by the antibiotic and are killed, but at times, a mutation occurs in an individual that leads to a resistant bacterium. This resistant strain can then spread rapidly due to the lack of competing bacteria (Yurchenko, 2018). This resistance is more likely to occur from the overuse of antibiotics; therefore, it has been a point of emphasis to use antibiotics only when necessary and not ... These genes are thought to alter the lipopolysaccharides where the Colistin can no longer act upon them (Yurchenko, 2018). In order to better understand how the Colistin resistance genes are spreading through bacteria, we wanted to identify the Colistin resistance gene in bacterial species and analyze their relation on a phylogenic tree using bioinformatics. Introduction Friction ridge analysis, or fingerprint analysis has been used for the sake of forensic analysis for over 100 years, and has perpetually been considered the most reliable technique of analysis. However, in recent years, its reliability has begun to crumble due to certain standards set in the United States of America. In this essay, fingerprint analysis will be briefly described, along with the framework of ACE V in which analysts work from looking primarily at its weaknesses and criticisms. The Daubert standard will be outlined and a how a primary assumption of fingerprint analysis violates a number of these standards. When sweat seeps out of these pores, it runs over the ridges. Thus, when a finger, palm, or foot touches a surface, an impression is made which in technical terms is known as a latent print. However, when a print is collected from a police station directly from the source, this is known as an exemplar print (Haber and Haber, 2008; Creswell, 2015). The science of fingerprint analysis rests on three, recently, controversial assumptions: Firstly, the ridge patterns never change during the life of a person; secondly, no two individuals will have the same ridge patterns; lastly, the transferability of an impression of that uniqueness to another surface. (Gianelli, 2006). This allowed for fingerprint analysts to form a procedure which other experts around the world are invited to use, known as ACE V. ACE V ACE V which is an acronym which stands for Analysis in which analysts categorise certain features of the print. Comparison where the latent print is compared to the known print of a suspect. Evaluation is the stage in which the examiner is expected to make an inference as to whether the latent print matches the print of the suspect or not. Finally, the process of Verification whereby, the analyst sends their data to another expert to confirm their inference (Lawless, 2009). In fact, using Adderall and other cognitive enhancing drugs in the workplace is a controversial issue for many companies. Similar to taking off label medicines in football games, many people consider taking drugs in the workplace as an unethical action. If the management promote employees who use Adderall to boost their working performance, it will be unfair for others who only work by their natural abilities. In contrast, if the promotion is based on medicines usages, this will violate employees privacy. Besides the ethical issues, the management should also consider the strategy issues in order to make a wise personnel decision. This means that the management should be able to predict how the decision affects the company in the future. For example, although Adderall and other cognitive enhancing drugs can help people to feel stronger, more energetic and exciting, their benefits will dissipate after a period of time. If the employees stop taking Adderall, they might not maintain their working performance. As a result, their productivity might be decreased, and the profit of the company will be negatively affected. As a cousin of Muhammad and a link in the direct progeny of The Prophet, his death and succession would cause much strife ad bloodshed in generations to come. Seizing power as caliph in 661 was Mu awiya b. Abu Sufyan, the first of the Umayyad family to hold this position where an Umayyad would maintain the throne for the next nearly 90 years. Throughout the time of the Umayyad rule from 661 to 750, these caliphs had a tremendous impact on not only the Arabian Peninsula, but most of the nations through North Africa, Southwestern Europe, and east into Central Asia. It s hard to measure the effects of this troubled dynasty without speculation, but it s fair to say they had both highs and many lows. The Umayyads consolidated power and eventually improved the governance of their growing empire, expanded their own economic capabilities, and also advanced Arab and Muslim culture throughout the region. However, rapid imperial expansion, tribal feuds, intra family conflict over successions, and the misconduct of some caliphs leaves some wondering if more harm or good was done during the Umayyad reign. When Mu awiya became caliph, some of the first actions he took were to begin the initial consolidations and centralizations of power (not to the extent of later Umayyad caliphs), begin more military expansions, and used his skills as a politician and statesman to hold the Muslim world together ... The Reflection Of The Observation Of Vertical Jumping Vertical Jumping Volleyball, basketball, high jump, hurdling, long jump, and pole vaulting all have a certain motor skill in common and that motor skill is jumping. Jumping is a gross motor skill which coordinates movements which requires the use of the large muscles in the arms, legs, torso, and feet. Furthermore, jumping requires strength, balance, coordination, body awareness, and motor planning. Our lower extremity contains multiple muscles in order for a person to jump. Many of the muscles in the lower extremity cross more than one joint. The basic muscles that are used during jumping are the rectus femoris, gastrocnemius, semimembranosus, semitendinosus, and the long head of biceps femoris. In Greek mythology, Niobe boasted she had many children and as a result, the gods came down and murdered her children. At the beginning of the second part of the narrative, it is understood that he is put on trial for the murder of an Arab; however, it later comes to our attention that the murder was not the primary reason of his trial, and perhaps not even an essential one for that matter. The answer is simple: it does not relate to the murder of the Arab. Being the representative of society, the jury opposes Meursault and accuses him of not conforming to society s natural ways, and being what we nowadays refer to as the odd one out . They exclude him from society for his odd clear cut and sincere demeanor, and for his manifestation of an inexpressive character. Another example is the moment in which the magistrate, a local member of the judiciary having limited jurisdiction, especially in criminal cases, questioned Meursault. In this particular scene, the magistrate changes the topic rather abruptly from his love for Maman, to which he responded he loved the same as anyone (p. 67), to the murder scene. What followed was a vast discussion on Meursault s belief in God, which he felt rather apathetic about; however, the magistrate, waving a crucifix to his face refers to him as the antichrist (p. 71). And later, during the trial, the judge and the prosecuting attorney seem more intrigued by the fact that Meursault did not grieve at his mother s funeral and got involved with Marie the day after it, than the actual act that had been committed: the assassination of a man. The majority of the witnesses that had been called only supported the argument of his callous nature, as they very well knew that Meursault was frighteningly candid, and could not, or would not, create a ... As a soft spoken southern girl, my style has always been my way to break free and boldly show a part of myself that was hidden behind my shy demeanor. Giving me a new perspective of the world from a young age fashion encouraged me to try new things and market myself. Freshmen year of high school I turned those new skills and courage into actions by working with my school s JROTC program to sell candy and other treats to the other students. I took this as an opportunity to meet and talk to new people, it was also a way to make a little money. Unexpectedly, I gained so much knowledge about people what they like don t like, how presentation can directly affect if a potential customer makes a purchase, as well as how important it is to keep up with customers buying patterns. With that information, I was able to sell an astonishing nine hundred and fifty seven treats in just four months.Through this minor achievement I proved to myself that I could do anything that I wanted to do with a lot of hard and consistency. ... • 41. Caesar Augustus Contributions History is made up of individuals who were just living the life they wanted to live. Their actions ended up making an impact on our world as we know it. At the time they probably had no clue that the actions they put forth in their time would eventually lead up to the world we know today. Their life events may not have been grand, but they were enough to make an impact. Caesar Augustus is one example of a person in history who led a successful life. Born Gaius Octavius on September 23, 63 B.C., in Velletri, Italy. Augustus was a sickly child with few connections. Although, one connection he did have was being the great nephew of Julius Caesar. Augustus was known by three different names throughout his life. From birth to 44 B.C. he was known as Octavius, in 44 B.C. he was adopted and changed his name to Octavian and in 26 B.C. the Roman Senate conferred on him the name Augustus. His father was a senator and governor in the Roman Republic and passed away when Augustus was four years old; his mother Atai was Caesar s niece. In his younger years his grandmother Julia Ceasaris helped raise him; she was the sister of Julius Caesar. Augustus donned the toga, the Roman sign of manhood, at age 16, and began taking on responsibilities through his family connections. At the time Rome was dangerous and engulfed in a civil war, one faction of the war was led by his great uncle Caesar. He started on his path of responsibilities by leaving for Hispania to fight alongside his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You have to change the way you think about yourself and the way you handle things, such as yourself, your emotions, your finance, and your relationships in order to be successful in life. You must know your purpose. People who don t know their purpose are like people who fight with their eyes closed, they are just beating the air and hitting nothing. I tell them in order to find your purpose, you must find what you are passionate about. Find what you love to do and you will then have found your purpose. When passion develops purpose comes alive. I then tell them to make a plan for your life. If you fail to plan for your life you plan to fail in your life. All successful people have a plan. We call them strategies. Similarities Between Headmaster And Frederick Douglass Struggling with Slavery: Life of Frederick Douglass vs. Roots Kunta Kinte and Frederick Douglass with extremely contrasting backgrounds, resulting in different lives down the road. Although they are not very similar in results or background they are both explaining how slavery worked and why it was wrong for people to have slaves. Frederick Douglass had a privileged life because he was a house boy, but Kunta as a field hand did not have many privileges. On one hand, Frederick was born a slave in America and raised as a Christian on a plantation without knowledge of his family. Douglass stated, I was born in Tuckahoe, near Hillsborough, and about twelve miles from Easton in Talbot county, Maryland (Douglass, 1). This piece of evidence is showing where he is from and where his journey began. But on the other hand, Kunta was born free in Africa within his Mandinka village of Juffure, he was raised learning the muslim faith living off the Gambia River and he knew his family. At the beginning of the movie they had shown Kunta Kinte in his Mandinka village going through man training, this also showed his family which tells you that he knew where he was from and the people surrounding him. Furthermore, Kunta had to cross the Atlantic Ocean and go through all the stages of becoming a slave and Frederick Douglass was just born into slavery. As a matter of fact the movie showed the journey for Kunta and how tough it was for him while the book portrayed a subtle more laid back city slave lifestyle. Also, in the movie Kunta had fiddler to rely on and to act as a best friend but in the book it did not speak of any friends for Frederick Douglass. This was probably because he felt he was higher up than the other slaves and he even made them feel inferior or it is simply because nobody wanted to be associated with a troubled ... Tim Burton uses lighting to create a certain kind of mood depending on how the characters feel in a lot of his movies. Three good examples would be Charlie and the Chocolate factory, Alice in Wonderland, and Edward Scissorhands. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton uses lighting to show how poor and sad Charlie s life is. In the movie, The lighting turns darker when the camera transitions into Charlie s house. • 45. Information Retrieval During The 1950s Chapter 1 1.1 Introduction Information Retrieval Information retrieval can be used in a broad term to mean physically bringing out what we have stored or kept earlier in order to use the information on it. For example, we have retrieved information when we retrieve our international passports from our pockets in order to copy the number on it into a form. It can also be described as the act of getting information, relevant to a need As an academic field of study however, it can be defined as ... finding material...of an unstructured nature...that satisfies an information need from within large collections... (C. Manning et al, 2008). This kind of information retrieval, used to be limited to a few people or professional searchers, as access to computers was limited at that time while the internet was not yet available. This however is no longer the case in the developed world as most people retrieve information by themselves when they search the web. The earliest form of computerised information retrieval began in the 1940s due to an increase in the production of scientific literature and availability of computers. This however was based on author, title and key words, rather than full text searches which came later. (Cleverdon, C.W. ACM press (1991).According to Mark Sanderson and W. Bruce Croft the capability of retrieval system grew as technology developed and processor speed and storage capacity increased. As the development of these systems led to movement away from manual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. How Did The Maccabees Influence The Jewish The Jews shifted their allegiance to Alexander and in return Alexander allowed the Jews to observe their own laws, gave them exemption from tribute tax during the Sabbath years. Alexander also encouraged the Jewish people to live in Alexandria, Egypt and gave them privileges reserved for his own Greek people. When Alexander died in 323 B. C., some of his generals divided the empire among themselves: The Ptolemies of Egypt, the Seleucids of Persia and parts of Asia Minor, and the Antigonids of Macedon. (Intertestamental Period New Testament Background, 2001). At first, the Egyptian Ptolemaic Empire controlled the Jews from 320 198 B. C., and then Seleucid (Syrian) Empire, around 198 B. C., acquired control over the Jewish populace. While the Ptolemaic Empire was tolerant of the Jewish culture and religion, the Seleucid Empire was not. The Seleucids made determined efforts to force Hellenism on the Jews. Some accepted it, but most did not (Halley, 2000). The Greek Seleucid, Antiochus, severely punished the unaccepting Jews which eventually provoked the Maccabees (Hasmonean Era) to revolt. By 164 B. Gorgeous Analysis The music inspires more togetherness and also impacts few little things that change the way of character s behavior, personality, an attitude which creates conflict down the road. Music itself is really persuasive that causes the pace of the story to slow down or speed up and later makes a huge impact on the story. Music from Belmont Harbor and Gorgeous were pretty reversed from each other, especially when having different music playing in the background while doing a task that is important. In the Belmont Harbor, a chapter written by John Porcellino from The Prefect Example, John Porcellino listens to Punk Rock music which was pretty famous when he was a kid and the music was an inspiring moment because it ought them how the world really is (add the citation). On the other hand, music in Gorgeous written by Cathy Johnson, her way of implying the music in the beginning of the story was pretty adroit since she only uses the music once in the story. Likewise, she was able to deliver many kinds of details from only a few panels in the page ( add the citation). In the Gorgeous, the music from the beginning of the story had a feeling of modern pop. However, Porcellino played Punk Rock music whenever he would enter someone else car and he would always like to suggest the music to his friends. With that in mind, it is really fascinating to think that the outcomes would be so much different from both stories just by the music that characters choose to listen to. In the end, the ... The Duchess was murdered on the order of her two brothers, Cardinal and Ferdinand, because of her sexual transgressions and her secret marriage with her subordinate household steward, Antonio, with whom she had also borne two children. Through this play, Webster addresses many issues that were highly prevalent in Jacobean age. This play is a concoction of issues like social mobility, gender norms, revenge and also has violence in large proportions. Men were supposed to be the powerful ones and women wee meant to do the household work and bear children. The power and authority lied with the men while women were not given importance in matters of authority. We see this when Ferdinand and Cardinal attempt to regulate her behavior during their absence by forbidding her to remarry. However, some women did have authority. This was the time of Queen Elizabeth who had ample power and had worked hard to keep her reputation in a time when there was rising gender apprehensions. Such was the case with the Duchess of Malfi as well. She was a woman with power and authority and wealth. The Duchess was a woman of strength and did not have a fear of defying authority. Even after her brothers had told her not to remarry, the Duchess went against their wishes and remarried that also beneath her status. Her brothers see her defiance as not merely a challenge to their authority but also an act that has hit them hard and made it imperative for them to teach her a lesson.
