Lymphoma (BL) is among the most aggressive cancerous tumors that attack humans. It is named after
David Burkitt who first discovered and described this kind of tumor in children in Africa. It is more
common in men than in women. The spread of this endemic is however rampant in both children and
young adults. BL attacks people who have poor immunity. The research will revolve around Burkitt

These are some of the problems and challenges expected whose answers lie with the success of the
research and government guidelines and policy to license the production of the drugs. Internationally,
among the medical researchers who take the line of Burkitt lymphoma are less than 300 annually.
Highlighting and pinpointing the need of fresh and new graduates in particular, to dedicate themselves
and venture into Burkitt lymphoma research will definitely be a plus on the global scale of advance
medical care and treatment for patients detected to contain this condition (Cozzi et al., 2011).

Assumptions In To Kill A Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel by Harper Lee, and it is historical fiction set in Maycomb, Alabama
in 1933 during the Great Depression. Judging someone on false information or rumor is a common
problem throughout many societies. Assumptions can lead to a large amount of damage to the person
being judged. The character Boo Radley is locked away in a house where outside that house, he is
constantly referred as the loon of the town. No one has ever met him, but everyone in the town of
Maycomb, especially the Finch children, Jem and Scout, think they know all about him. The way the
citizens view Boo Radley reflects how people can seriously misjudge someone and make assumptions
about the person, even though they know nothing about him. The ... Show more content on

When people s azaleas froze in a cold snap, it was because he had breathed on them. Any stealthy
small crimes committed in Maycomb were his work. (9/147) Boo Radley is clearly misjudged just
because no one sees him. Rumors and assumptions often dictated people s views on things at that
time. Scout is also very vague when she refers to people, which could mean that no one really said
that. Crazy Addie was convicted of nocturnal disturbances in Maycomb, but people thought that it was
somehow Boo Radley who committed the disturbances. Jem gives a description of Boo that Dill and
Scout consider reasonable. However, the children don t know what reasonable is, because they have
never really seen him. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were
yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time. (11) Boo is also described as six
and a half feet tall, and he kills and eats squirrels and cats to survive. This was a description by a child
who has never seen the actual person. Children have a lot of imagination, so they tend to exaggerate
things. They want excitement in their lives at the expense of judging a man whom they cannot prove
anything about. Stephanie Crawford

The Stages Of Grief Have Been A Topic Of Debate In Grief
The stages of grief have been a topic of debate in grief counseling since their introduction in 1969 by
Elisabeth Kubler Ross, in her book On Death and Dying . These stages of grief can be loosely
described as a cycle of emotions that humans can expect to feel, resulting from some type of
unexpected loss. Grief and loss is very normal process, and something most people will be forced to
cope with at some point in their lives. However, to categorize each person s feelings into an arbitrary
set of stages would not be realistic.
In general, the five stages of grief are described as Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and
Acceptance. The bereavement community has been quick to accept and assign grief in stages, most
likely to lend a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People in denial often withdraw from their normal social behavior and become isolated. Denial has no
set time frame, or may never be felt at all. However, it is considered the first stage of grief.
Anger The second stage of grief is Anger. People that are grieving often become upset with the person
or situation which put them in their grief state. After all, their life could now be in complete disarray.
The path of least resistance is anger as opposed to facing the consequences of a loss head on. In the
case of death, the anger is often focused toward the deceased for leaving that person behind and
unable to cope. Other times people become angry at themselves if they feel they could have done
something more to stop the loss from happening.
Bargaining The third stage of grief is Bargaining. This is when those who are grieving are reaching
out to the universe to make the pain go away. It is actually very normal, and largely considered to be a
sign that they are beginning to comprehend their situation. People will often try to make a deal, or
promise to do anything, if the pain will be taken away.
Depression The fourth stage of grief is Depression. Contrary to popular belief, depression is
something that may take some time to develop. We often think we are depressed when a grief event
first occurs, but there is

Examples Of Voyeurism In Rear Window
AWe re a race of Peeping Toms. People ought to get out of their homes and look at themselves.
What is the film s message about the ethics of voyeurism?
Voyeurism is originally defined as the practice of gaining sexual pleasure from watching others when
they are naked or engaged in sexual activity . However, the term is also used to describe a general
spying on, or having interest in, other people s lives. This kind of voyeurism is the central theme for
Alfred Hitchcock s mystery thriller, Rear Window (1954). The film follows the boredom induced
curiosity of photographer L.B. Jeff Jefferies. Bound to his wheelchair with a broken leg, he has little
to do with his time, and finds himself looking into and involving himself in, the lives of his ... Show

After the journey ends, we are left to contemplate the morality surrounding voyeurism, and Hitchcock
s own proposal about the nature of the practice.
Voyeurism in its generic form, has long been considered unethical due to its invasive nature. Most
people would agree that spying on others is an invasion of privacy, and would look down on those
peering into other s lives. This viewpoint is expressed in the opening scene of the film by Jefferies
insurance worker, Stella. She makes her entrance stating that The New York state sentence for a
peeping tom is six months in the workhouse... . She goes on to say that his behaviour has her smelling
trouble right here in [his] apartment and mimics his hypothetical court appearance. Lisa Freemont,
Jefferies girlfriend, also comments on the issue, first when Jefferies tells her of his suspicions of Lars
Thorwald; labelling his wild opinions as diseased while defensively giving alternate reasons for all of
Jefferies questions about Thorwald. Including these women, no character in the film, initially,
encourages Jefferies voyeurism. Instead they explicitly downplay and dismiss it. Both Stella and

Ayn Rand Summary
Rand Analysis Ayn Rand is also very impassioned in her response to the moon landing, The July 16,
1969, Launch: A Symbol of Man s Greatness. She uses the events of July 16, 1969 to serve her own
purpose, to further the philosophy of objectivism. Objectivism, according to the Language of
Composition, values individualism, freedom, and reason (33). These themes are very apparent in her
commentary. Rather than seeing a rocket launch as a government endeavor, with many people
working hard toward a common goal, she sees it as the concretized abstraction of man s greatness. She
sees the human race as a singular being, and nature as something to be contained, and conquered
successfully. The moon landing is evidence of man s superiority, ... Show more content on

She was at Cape Kennedy to see the rocket launch of Apollo 11. She describes the event in vivid
detail, referring to the initial ignition as a large patch of bright, yellow orange flame shooting
sideways from under the base of the rocket. She then moves into more poetic description, as the
launch continues: The dark red fire parted into two gigantic wings, as if a hydrant were shooting
streams of fire outward and up, toward the zenith and between the two wings, against a pitch black
sky, the rocket rose slowly, so slowly that it seemed to hang still in the air, a pale cylinder with a
blinding oval of white light at the bottom, like an upturned candle with its flame directed at the earth.
While her description is based on her personal experience, her flowery language and use of imagery
reveal her emotions beyond a simple statement of what she witnessed. She describes the fire and the
rocket, two gigantic wings and an upturned candle, in such a way that showcase their majesty. The fact
that man created this overwhelming sight speaks to his utter dominance. Man does not cower in the
presence of such intense fire and smoke; rather, man is the creator and controller of these

Why Is Ancient Egypt So Important To Ancient Civilization
River Civilizations Essay. Rivers are very important to any ancient civilization. One of the major
resources that rivers provided was silt. Silt is a kind of dirt filled with important minerals and nutrients
that are very helpful in planting and growing crops. Silt is produced when a river floods and after the
flood is over a nutrient rich soil is left over. Another recourse that rivers provide is food. Rivers can
provide fish that can be used to feed a family or whole city. The final major function of rivers in my
opinion is transportation. Transportation is a very important river function because it can lead to trade
and growth of a civilization. By trading you can get recourses that you don t have or that you want and
you can borrow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of those civilizations was ancient Egypt. Ancient Egypt was located on the Nile River which
flows through Egypt, Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zaire, the Sahara Desert, Kenya, Tanzania, Eritrea,
Burundi and Rwanda. The Nile River is the longest river in the world. The Nile River had many of
functions for Ancient Egypt and helped them in many different ways from silt to transportation. The
Ancient Egyptians were able to predict flooding of the Nile which came in handy so they could be
well protected and prepared. The Ancient Egyptians would actually celebrate the flooding the Nile
because they knew that after the flood was over silt would be left over which they could use to grow
crops if there was a drought. Egyptians were also excellent sailors which came in handy when it came
time for trading. Ancient Egypt traded many of things like gold, papyrus, linen, and grain. Trading
also helped Egypt move forward because they could borrow ideas from other places that they traded
with and mix them into their culture. In my opinion trading was good, but it also was bad because it
allowed people to know that there was a great civilization there and know people knew how to get

Andrew Jackson Indian Removal Act Essay
Andrew Jackson was a General in The United States army, and the 7th president, throughout his
presidency he experienced many struggles with the Native Americans like wars and land disputes. In
the 1830s he wanted to end these conflicts so he put in place the Indian Removal Act of 1830. I
believe Andrew Jackson rightly and correctly removed the Indians. Even though many Indians died
along the way Jackson had a reason behind what he did and should not be to blamed for their deaths.
One of Andrew Jackson s reason behind the Indian Removal Act was so that the United States could
achieve their goal of Manifest Destiny, which is the belief Americans had that God meant for their
country to be expanded from east to west coast. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was called the Treaty of Doaksville. Though the Chickasaws went without problems, the
Seminole Indians did not. The Seminole tribe, which was originated in the Everglades area in Florida,
did not want to leave, they stayed in their home and fought for their land. In 1835, after the Indian
Removal Act was passed, the Seminoles started the Second Seminole War with the United States
army. The battle went on until 1842 and ended with only a couple of hundred of Seminoles left. At this
time the United States army said the Seminoles could stay. So even though they lost, it was still a
moral victory for the tribe. (Mahone 1998) The Cherokee Indians on the other hand faced conflicts
that were not like any of the above Indian tribes. They were the last tribe to fight for their land which
was in the Appalachian Mountains. The Cherokees were basically became their own country. They
had a developed Republican Government, and their own Constitution. They had many conflicts with
America though. For example, they had the same land claimed as Georgia causing a big problem that
ended up in the Supreme Court. In this case the judges could not decide who had claim of the disputed
land. After this, Andrew Jackson persuaded a small group of the Cherokees to sign the Treaty of New
Echota. This allowed the American Government ownership to the Cherokee territory, in return
America gave them new land west of the Mississippi River

Female Characters In And Then There Were None
Women. They are a complete mystery, said the revolutionary physicist Stephen Hawking. In the novel
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, it is apparent that the female characters are portrayed
in a manner that is both derogatory and stereotypical. Whether the incidents include a fellow character
or the author directly using offensive insults, portrayals of hysteria or weakness compared to the
males, or downright treating the female protagonists like objects or things, they are sometimes cruel
and unnecessary. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters are described through
hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be appropriate for
impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting otherwise. One of the
largest problems with And Then There Were None is the use of offensive and hurtful stereotypes while
referring to the women in the novel, as well as indirectly stating that all women should be
homemakers who cook and clean. With a pioneering female writer such as Agatha Christie, you would
not necessarily expect such blaring misogyny, but it remains all the same. On a broader note, the three
main female characters are each stereotypes of the crazy woman one following under her husband
even for cruelty, one being bible crazy, and one being so in love she is willing to literally kill anyone
who stands in her way. More specifically, when William Blore is analyzing the death of Mrs. Rogers,

How Technology Has Changed Copyright
The Creative Commons by Lawrence Lessig discusses how freedom to create has drastically changed
ever since its origin. I think this was the most interesting article I have read about copyright. Lessig
discusses the era of creativity and freedom of using one s work to create and imagine something
completely knew. The author uses Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, and comics examples to address his
views regarding how the art of creativity and freedom has changed upon the era of digital media. How
technology has changed the freedom to created? One thing I was surprised by was how many times
the copyright law has been altered. It used to be where copyright material had limited time until it
ended up in public domain for others to uses. However, changes to copyright law throughout the years
has keep on increasing the year of ownership, which gives big companies to monopolize. This lives no
room for others to uses one s material. Automatically, copyright law regulates essentially any creative
work reduced to tangible form. (pp.6). Another point I found interesting was how technology itself
enforcing the copyright law, not the court. In addition, technology enforcing the copyright law has its
own copyright law. It is technology which determines what your freedom is (pp.7). Even the software
codes are copyrighted to protect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Etruscan Religion
The origin of the Roman mythology is based on the Etruscan religion and the Greek mythology. The

Roman culture was born and grew on the civilizations of the Etruscans and Greeks so that the

Christian, and Islamic religions Etruscan religion was polytheistic, and gods of the pantheon resided in
sixteen ranges of Etruscan heaven (2006, p. 45). However, according to them
Etruscans believed a revealed religion and they communicated with the deity by gods of the sky, earth
and the underworld. Their main gods was Tin or Tinia who is the god of sky and counterpart of Zeus
in Greek mythology and Jupiter in Roman mythology. Other major goddesses were Uni who was the
supreme goddess of pantheon, wife of Tinia, the equivalent of Hera in Greek mythology and Juno in
Roman mythology, and Menrva who was the goddess of wisdom and the equal of Athena in Greek
mythology and Minerva in Roman mythology. Together Tinia, Uni and Menrva were triad rulers of the
Etruscan pantheon. After

Chaffee, Mcmahon And Sto Out Summary
In reading the articles from both of the authors, it was easy for me to see the perspective that each one
has on the subject of Barry Bonds and his use of steroids in Major League Baseball. The first author
Will (2007) comes across that his perspective is against the drug use in any sports and he uses an
objective language in his writing to show that. In our textbook Chaffee, McMahon, and Stout, (2008)
describes an objective language as the use of little personal judgement and using persuasive facts to
lure the audience in your direction. Will (2007) used facts based on the change in the ratio of home
runs every 16.1 at bats before to 8.9 at bats after the drug use for Bonds. Will (2007) also used
testimonies from people that worked with Bonds, the equipment manager Mike Murphy for the San
Francisco Giants testified that Bonds s shirt size changed from a 42 to a 52 and that his shoe size
increased from a 10 to a 13. Will (2007) also used examples of drug use in different sports from as far

Puritan Americans During The English Reformation
The English Reformation Puritans The Puritans was a group of English Protestants from the late 16th
and 17th centuries, who regarded the Reformation of the Church of England during Elizabeth prime as
Queen. The Puritans was a group that had separated from the Roman Catholic Church practices, that
kept them from the act of worship that they wanted to practice. There were three step to Reformation
of the Puritans Theological issue. I. There were a series of steps aimed at discussing ties between the
Papacy and the English church, which led to a large role in Christian history in America. In the way

Because of American religious history there were several groups that came to the New World to make
their mark. The Puritans had a stronger influence on society both positive and negative. A. One of the
positive things taken place was the reform in the church on social, political, ethical, and theological
ideas. This brought about commitment of the gospel from each generations. The work of the Holy
Spirit displayed spiritual wisdom in the pulpits, the way the preacher preached and led the
congregation with his leadership role. This brought about a change in the way things were done, the
start of revival injected new ideas into the Christian faith. Another way was the movement of anti
slavery, this could bring freedom to Black America. Also, the religious freedom was incorporated in
the American society that all people could worship and serve God in their own ethics groups. After the
freedom of slavery, the blacks were able to work for themselves and work for others as free men.
Black preachers started their own churches and met every week for service. There were many changes
made in society in the way we live and worship in today s society. As believers in God we have come

The Spill Of The Bp Oil Spill
The BP oil spill was one of the worst oil spills to ever happen in the US. There are many factors that
caused this horrible spill to happen; to be exact there were eight failures of the oilrig that caused this
disaster. The first failure was the cement at the bottom of the borehole was not sealed properly. This
caused the oil and gas to start leaking into the pipe leading to the surface of the rig. The second failure
was that the valve leading to the surface was sealed improperly with cement. In addition, there were
two mechanical valves, which failed to stop the leak of gas and oil. The crew was also to blame
because they did pressure tests, which they did not read properly. This made the crew believe the oil
well was under control when it was not. The crew also did not spot the leak before the explosion; there
was an increase in pressure inside the well fifty minutes before the explosion but the crew did not
interpret it as a leak. Next, about eight minutes before the rig exploded, mud and gas began to come
out onto the floor of the rig. The crew tried to stop this by activating the blowout preventer, which is at
the top of the well, however this caused the blowout preventer to malfunction. The rig had side vents
that were suppose to release this mud and gas, but instead it was diverted to a device that separates
only small amounts of mud and gas. This device quickly became overwhelmed and flammable gas
was sent all over the rig. The alarm on the rig should have sounded

problems would arise if freedom of speech was limited. It will be submitted by 18/10/2012. 2.
Findings 2.1 Who decides on the limitations of freedom of speech? The concept of Freedom of speech
is one which is held sovereign by many constitutions and individuals, especially within the American

The freedom of press within Cuba is also highly restricted, as are the media material available to

1.67% of the population have that luxury , receive any publication from abroad and if an individual
decides to do so they can be punished under one of the many ridiculously strict jail terms within their
constitution and they are also unable to listen to foreign radio broadcasts. The result in Cuba
restricting freedom of speech to such a high standard is the population within prisons are soared to an
imaginable number, meaning less space for the more serious criminals as most of the cells are
occupied by Journalists. 3. Conclusion It can be concluded that, by investigating the many factors of
the concept of freedom of speech, it should not be limited. Of course, it is considered that many
individuals or political bodies take advantage of the constitutional law, but because of the law they are
punished accordingly. If

and dreamed of owning a real one. It seemed fitting he should own the prestige car emblazoned with
his name. He never lost that ambition. Over time ambition became obsession and Royce eventually
became proud owner of a Rolls Royce. Born in 1943 in Western Australia, Royce joined the Royal
Australian Navy as a stores assistant, a month before his 18th birthday, and found himself posted to
the HMAS Voyager, where he introduced himself as Roy, probably a more suitable name for the
blokey surrounds of the Australian Navy. On the evening of 10 February 1964, the Voyager, a
destroyer, performed exercises off Jervis Bay with the HMAS Melbourne. During ... Show more

Royce plonked Restaurant Royce on Reservoir Road, a major arterial road, next door to a takeaway
chicken shop, and situated midway between a notorious street of public housing, and the precinct of
cheap apartment blocks known as Lego Land. Not quite an oasis of elegance and aspiration. God
knows how he protected the Rolls on the street. Perhaps armed guards... or a reinforced underground
bunker. Despite visits from popular celebrity chef Bernard King, the restaurant proved less than
successful. In the knockabout Cairns of those days, a place where people complained about needing to
buy black thongs for formal events, where the stretch limos all over the place conveyed, not locals, but
Japanese honeymoon couples, very few residents would risk ridicule by taking a piss elegant drive in a
urine coloured Roller. (There s been a marked increase in that demographic since though.) On quiet
nights, or after closing time, Royce cruised the Esplanade in the roller, and on Saturday nights he
motored to Rusty s to party there. Although the restaurant proved unsuccessful, Royce could still
pursue other ventures. He owned the car, and his bank account still contained a sizable amount of
cash. But he had achieved his

Raymond Blanc and Modern French Cuisine
Raymond Blanc, OBE is a French born chef who has made his career in the United Kingdom and has
revolutionised modern French cuisine. Blanc was born on 19 November 1949 in Besançon, a city in
Eastern France, making him now 64 years old. He began cooking when his father gave him a colander
and a vegetable foraging guide for his 10th birthday and whatever he could manage to find in their
garden and surroundings, his mother the inspirational Maman Blanc would teach him to cook. His
mother believed in cooking healthy, local, fresh produce which was full of goodness and love and this
inspired both Raymond and his two sisters to follow with this trend. Blanc is completely self taught
and has never received official**l culinary training in any form.
During Blanc s first job in a restaurant, he criticised the head chef for his lazy cooking and thus had a
pan thrown at him which broke his nose and jaw he also got fired for this. In the year 1972, Blanc
came to England and worked as a waiter at the Oxfordshire restaurant, Rose Revived. On one
fortunate day when the head chef was ill, he entered the kitchen to assist with service and since then it

Flood risk has increased in New York City due to storm surges and human caused sea level rising,
such as melting glaciers. The sea level has increased drastically from 850 to 1800 between the years of
1970 and 2005. Prior to 1800, a flood that was 2.25 m (7.4 ft) above sea level occurred once every 500
years. Since 1970, a storm of that size occurs approximately every 24 years (Worland, 2015). New
York City was severely affected in November 2012 by Hurricane Sandy. At least 53 people were killed
as a result of the storm and caused $32 billion in damage. A professional emergency management
system has been put into effect in New York City. The city has published and utilized evacuation zone
maps, which have shown effectiveness. Due to the levels throughout the city, only about 30 percent of
the population would have to be evacuated and would not have to move too far inland to higher areas.
Damage and property loss are problems to still deal with,

Reflection On Interpersonal Communication
Reflection Paper I have taken Interpersonal Communication before during the summer 2016, but I
didn t pass it mainly because I wasn t as focused as I was in this class. Professor Castro just made it
fun. Her lectures and her stories made it interesting. Every Mondays and Wednesdays, I had three
classes. Interpersonal Communication would be my first class to start my day. Then two classes after
that. I ended up dropping those two classes. I was supposed to drop this class too but I didn t because I
wanted to learn more. I ve been in a relationship with my girlfriend for almost a year and one of the
problems we had was listening. Sometimes she wouldn t listen to me or I just wouldn t listen to her at
all. The day we had a lecture about listening in class, that same morning, we got in an argument about
how I don t listen to her. I always listen to her but not when we argue. I usually avoid her when we are
about to start arguing. I found it funny how the professor somehow knew I was in trouble with
listening and she decided to have a lecture on listening. Unlike a history class or a math class or even
reading class, this class actually helped me outside of school. I also learned that my professor is a
volunteer basically everywhere. She participates in marches whenever she can. Her age doesn t stop
her from making the community better and standing up for what she believes in. She is an inspiration.
She asked the class to volunteer somewhere for three hours which was pretty cool. I haven t had any
class in college where volunteering out in the community was a requirement. Because I had to
volunteer for a grade in class, I am now volunteering for the resist march in Los Angeles, June 11. I
wouldn t be going out to volunteer for this event if it weren t for this class. Knowing that my professor
goes to protests and marches at her age, she is truly an inspiration. I don t usually have time to go out
to marches anymore but seeing that she still does, I d want to participate more in the community. Now
only problem I had in this class was that I never really had my own seat. I moved to different seats
every time we had class. I felt very comfortable sitting in the back, but the professor doesn t like

The Death Of Socrates By Plato
Phaedo is an account of events before and after the death of Socrates as written by Plato in the form of
dialogue. This dialogue is an expression of various arguments and beliefs on the theme of mortality.
Phaedo was one of the men present to witness the death of Socrates, and before the execution, they
had engaged in conversations with which Socrates expressed his ideas on death, the soul, and the
belief in the existence of an afterlife. Plato s philosophical idealism is expressed in Phaedo in some
ways. For instance, one could apply the cyclical argument that any living being is eternal with the soul
as the imperishable aspect. Plato expresses that the soul gives continuity as it moves on to the next
part of life despite the fact that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This situation is dependent on a good system of government, and this is the manner in which Aristotle
transitions to Politics. Here, Aristotle expresses the need for the political leadership to work in liaison
with the community to embrace virtuous living.
The religious life in the Roman world experienced a lot of transformations with time. The changes can
be observed through the literature depending on when it was written. For instance, some revolutions
are noticeable in Book 6 of Virgil s Aeneid and Apuleius s The Golden Ass.
Book 6 of Aeneid is a sort of prophecy as Virgil gives an account of Aeneas journey to the
Underworld. The author s imagination gives an insight into the nature of punishments for sin and that
lack of adherence to the virtues of the religion results in dire consequences. The gods are portrayed as
being temperamental and are willing to exert their wrath on the human race. The gods demand
sacrifice and obedience from the human race which they proclaim superiority over. The underworld
defines the afterlife whereby the people are rewarded depending on the kind of lives they lived on
earth. The Underworld is described to have many sections, and the people are judged depending on
their virtuosity. This religious belief embraces Orphism as there is the presence of Orpheus, a priest.

Babylon Revisited Relationships
A family is the most important thing that an individual possesses as they are the foundation of whom
the person is, and who they will become. This is especially true if the individual lives far from where
the family resides. In Babylon Revisited, this is the case. Charlie Wales lives in Prague,
Czechoslovakia; while, his daughter, Honoria, lives in Paris, France with her uncle and aunt. However,
their unconditional love is so immense that no distance or time apart can break such. In this paper, the
relationship among Charlie and his daughter will be analyzed, as well as the relationships between
Charlie and his late wife Helen, and Charlie and the Peters family.

Although their marriage is ideal compared to Charlie and Helen s, their relationship is strained by
financial and familial matters. In financial terms, the Peters family is not as fortunate as the
Campbells. This is evident as every time that Charlie wants to speak about his financial success, he
stops and notices that Lincoln is not really interested in hearing it. The Peters family s financial
situation is clear when Lincoln tells Charlie that, While you and Helen were tearing around Europe
throwing money away, we were just getting along (516). The financial strains in the relationship has
certainly caused problems in what seems an ideal marriage, as Charlie does go to point out that they
are not a boring family at all. As for familial matters, the Peters had the misfortunate of still dealing
with Marion s mourning of her sister Helen, the possibility of losing Honoria, and to see their brother
in law as an adversary. In spite of both the Peters and Charlie viewing themselves as opponents, it is
clear that both do have some level of love and respect for each

Wendy Cope Reading Scheme Summary
Wendy Cope: Reading Scheme
When I was younger I had no idea what this world held for me. I was innocent. As a child, I was
innocent of mortality, as a teen hope, and as a young adult love. However, later on that innocence took
on the role of ignorance. Not in the sense of not being knowledgeable or educated on the subject but
rather knowing it all too well that I choose to not acknowledge it. Innocence can be served as an
instrument to tune out your surroundings when things take a toll. It can be an illusion from reality to
protect what one desires to be true feel rather than what is actual. In Wendy Cope s poem Reading
Scheme, Cope writes about the child s viewpoint of an affair by using the villanelle form to illustrate
the inability of children to make connections and ultimately argue that innocence is simply an illusion.
In order to understand the illusion of innocence in Wendy Cope s poem we must first familiarize
ourselves on the subject of innocence and how, depending on the mindset, it is defined. Also, we must
alert ourselves of Cope s writing style and the purpose of her writing. According to the article
Archaeology: the loss of innocence, the loss of disciplinary innocence is the price of expanding
consciousness...the loss is irreversible and the prize substantial (Clarke 6). Are we rewarded when our
innocence abandons us or has suffering begun because now things are seen in a different aspect. The
author of the article, David Clarke, claims innocence is a continuous losing process (Clarke 6). We
continue to loss some sort of innocence into our teens, adulthood, and even our later years. It is when
we choose to open ourselves to new experiences that our innocence beforehand disappears. Cope is
well known for her manner of addressing serious or grave topics in a humorous way. Her writing style
has double meaning to it. The serious tone of it hides between the lines of humor. The poem is about a
mother having an affair with the milkman. Toward the end of the poem the husband returns home and
discovers what his wife has done then goes after the milkman. All the while the children, Peter and
Jane, are watching the event but also getting distracted by other things that are happen like Look at the

Economic Theory Of Mercantilism
The Mercantilist economic theory brings to view the nationalist effort that maximizes trade and the
accumulation of gold and silver at the expense of other nations. This economic theory promotes
national regulation of the economy and trade through the process of expanding the domestic industry.
This approach went against free trade as it practices restrict imports and raise trade tariffs.
Mercantilism was the primary economic system of trade between the 16th and 18th century, and it
understood that wealth was static. Its perception of wealth led to the European nations implementing
tariffs that would ensure they maintained their power through their wealth. This wealth perception
restricted trade through tariffs that restricted imports while promoting exports. Hence, the static
attitude of trade ensured that the European nations imposed their government regulations over
countries that they were interested commercially. Therefore, the Mercantilism economic theory
identified the insecurities of the European nations as the global market increased and their influences
diminished.
According to William Baker, Mercantilism played a huge role in facilitating the trade system practiced
between the 16th and 18th century. Hence, Mercantilism was used to justify the role that slavery
played in enhancing European wealth. Slavery was reinforced through the Englishmen concepts that
saw them superior compared to the Africans, they associated Africans strange culture with their

The Greatest Hero Figure Of Ancient Mesopotamia Essay
It is reasonable that the origin of interests and concerns of societies would fascinate many because of
the ability to learn about how the interests have been created and evolved. Learning about interests can
bring knowledge about how people in the past had believed in and how it is thought of compared to
today s society and culture. The best known individual of Mesopotamia was Gilgamesh. He was in a
cycle of stories called Epic of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh was the greatest hero figure of ancient
Mesopotamia. Though the stories focus on the adventures of both Gilgamesh and his friend Enkidu,
the stories explored themes like ambition and the longing for immortality. These themes reflected the
interests of the urban based society that emerged in Mesopotamia. In Mesopotamia there was a quest
for order, a formation of a complex society and cultural traditions, broad influence of the society, and
Indo European migrations. There was a quest for order in Mesopotamia. During the fourth millennium
B.C.E., human population increased. Through adaptation they created states and governmental
machinery. Sumerians from the land of Sumer were dominant in Mesopotamia. In Sumer population

love and loss (how he found love and lost things/people close to him), and death (where Jobs
discusses his own battle with cancer and the fear of dying). In his first short story to the audience, Jobs
does a successful job with his rhetorical method. He repeats the phrase connecting the dots during the
speech. He mentions that people can only connect those dots of life looking backwards which gives a
powerful meaning to the audience. Not only with the starting but he ends his first story by telling that

The Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach
Introduction Adolescents are a population that can be at risk in regards to drug and alcohol abuse. A
program called the Community Reinforcement Approach was created and later adapted into the
Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach in the 1970s to address problems adolescents face
when it comes to drug or alcohol abuse ( Intervention Summary Adolescent Community
Reinforcement Approach (A CRA) ). The Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach works
with adolescents from the ages twelve to twenty five in both outpatient and residential settings. There
are three parts to the program; the client has intervention alone first, next the guardian has intervention
alone, and finally they have intervention together. It addresses mainly alcohol and drug abuse but also
deals with mental health, homelessness, and other behaviors that can lead to substance abuse. The
main focus of A CRA is designed to change certain aspects of the participants environment to make it
so that non using behavior will be more rewarding than using behavior (Garner, et al., 2009). This
program has been tested against multiple other approaches and it is usually the most cost effective
option, making it a desirable program when the success rate is also factored in. Many rehabilitation
facilities utilize this approach, for example the Maryhaven treatment center in Columbus, Ohio.

Binge Eating in Bulimia Nervosa Essay
In our Western society, we have several different types of eating dysfunction, all of which are unique

symptoms that are key to their classification and severity. For Bulimia Nervosa (BN) and Binge

number of calories eaten in a given time or subjectively by the feelings of the binger. Binge eating has
many different aspects that are of interest to scientists and clinicians alike. One of those interests has

Therapies used.
Interpersonal therapy (IPT) is a derivative of therapy designed for depressed individuals, which
originated from the New Haven Boston Collaborative Depression Project (Fairburn et al 1993). It
borrows from the psychodynamic school of psychology, but concentrates on interpersonal functioning
and involves three steps: 1) the first is an intensive analysis of the interpersonal context which the
disorder develops and is maintained 2) the second involves addressing the interpersonal problems and
contracting with the patients to work on these problems 3) the third deconstructs feelings about
termination of therapy, reviews progress and outlines future work (Fairburn et al. 1993).
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is currently the most commonly used type of psychotherapy
(Peterson Mitchell 1999). It is based on the cognitive view of bulimia nervosa, which weighs attitudes
towards shape and weight as most significant for maintenance of the disorder. Therapy actually
includes a combination of behavioral and cognitive directives aimed at changing patterns of behavior,
attitudes of shape and weight, and cognitive distortions such as low self esteem (Fairburn et al. 1993).
Behavioral therapy (BT) is similar to CBT but concentrates on behavioral procedures used to

How Did Edgar Degas s Use Of Visual Impairments
A comparative analysis of two works by 20th and 21st century artists, Edgar Degas and John
Bramblitt, where a discussion of their lives, their techniques and of course their works comes into
focus. One of the main comparisons between these two artists is how visual impairments in both their
cases affected their works. Whilst Degas s works became more hurried and quick although not losing
his precision, Bramblitt s work still remained patient and calculated.
Dancers ca. 1900 by Degas is a study drawing of what was later to be Dancers VI. It portrays three
women dancing, although one seems to be centrally placed and in focus with two other women behind
her dancing. This portrait of dancing women, is a draft done in pastels, with the expert mixing of
various other materials such as gouache, tempera. This is attributed to the experimental nature of
Edgar Degas s methods and techniques of creating his works. The lines are not sharp and crisp as you
would expect in a typical impressionist s work and yet there is the subtle detailed definition such as

The first I used primarily with oil paints. Because oil paints are made from different substances they
have a viscosity and texture that varies slightly from color to color. By adding medians to the pain
such as Liquin and paint thinners I can alter the way the paint feels even more. For example: Titanium
White is very thick like toothpaste while Ivory Black is fairly runny more like oil. By adding a little
thinner you can make it even more so. In order to mix a gray halfway between white and black you
simply mix for a texture that is halfway between the thick and thin paints. This is actually a very
precise way of mixing color because your sense of touch is extremely adept at sensing subtle changes
in texture. With practice it becomes even more so. (Bramblitt,

Current Issues Of Management And Social Change Essay
Current Issues in Management
Fatoke Adedayo
Walden University Abstract
For managers to effectively institutionalize their businesses, they must have absolute knowledge of
their business environments and the salient issues that may affect the operations of their organizations
both within and outside so as to be able to proffer absolute and sustainable solution that will keep
them in existence. Some of the issues affecting managers in business are Gender Equality and Work
life balance. This assignment critically analyse the these identified issues, showed their relative
importance, their importance to management and their relationship to positive social change.
Two Current Issues in Management
For managers to effectively institutionalize their businesses, they must have absolute knowledge of
their business environments and the salient issues that may affect the operations of their organizations
both within and outside so as to be able to proffer absolute and sustainable solution that will keep
them in existence.
One of such issues is Gender Equality. A complete and unbiased definition of gender equality as
addressed by the European Commission s Women s Charter (2010) (COM (2010) 78 final) which can
be seen in the Gender Equality Index Report (2013, p.7, cited in Kovačević and Šehić, 2015) defined
it as the full realization of women s potential and the full use of their skills, a better gender distribution
in the labour market, the promotion of genuine

Chlamydia, And, Etiology And Management Of Chlamydia
Abstract: Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmitted disease in the United States. It can infect
both men and women. Chlamydia is treatable but if left untreated it can cause permanent damage in
female reproductive system and in males the damage is rare. Sexually active females and males should
be tested every year. This article will review the epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis, etiology
and management of Chlamydia.
Introduction:
Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common bacteria that cause sexual transmitted genital infections.
C. trachomatis is a small gram negative bacterium. It is the most common cause of urethritis in men
and cervicitis in females. Many patients are asymptomatic and thus provide an ongoing reservoir for
infection. It allows ongoing transmission and allows silent disease. C.trachomatis infection can cause
the scarring of the Fallopian tubes, ovaries, and endometrial lining. It results in an increase risk of
future ectopic pregnancy and tubal infertility. Thus this bacterium is estimated to be the most costly
sexually transmitted infection.
Epidemiology:
More than 2 4 million cases of Chlamydia are reported every year. The infection mostly occurs in
females, age 15 24 years. Women are most likely to get a Chlamydial genitourinary infection and are
most likely to be asymptomatic than men. Women develop long term complications such as pelvic
inflammatory disease and infertility. The prevalence of Chlamydia has been reported to be as

Unimodal And Bimodal Silica
In 2006, Franscesc Lloret et al. employed unimodal and bimodal silica based mesoporous materials as
support hosts for octanuclear Ni(II) oxamate complex44 of formula {[Ni2(mpba)3][Ni(dpt)H2O)]6}
(ClO4)4·12.5H2O}, (Ni8) with mpba = m phenylenedioxamate and dpt = dipropylenetriamine. This
complex possesses a moderately anisotropic (S = 4) ground spin state (D = 0.23 cm 1) and exhibits
slow magnetic relaxation below TB = 3.0 K in the crystalline state. The mesoporous silicas MCM 41,
UVM 7 and UVM 11 were investigated to incorporate Ni8 SMMs. The unimodal silica MCM 41 has
small pores of 2.8 nm diameter while UVM 7 has bimodal pores of 2.58 nm and 34.89 nm. A third
silica, UVM 11, which is a porous amorphous xerogel was also studied to act as ... Show more content

In stark contrast, MCM 41 and UVM 7 show much different magnetic properties after successful
incorporation into the silica pores. Notably, the χMT term for both silicas is higher than expected for
magnetically isolated Ni8 molecules (such as those in UVM 11) which supports the presence of
repeating Ni8 units forming [Ni8]x aggregates. χMT also reaches a maximum at a range of 3 10 K, in
contrast to the Tmax = 3 K of the SMM alone where Tmax generally increases with increasing loading
amount. This behavior can be rationalized due to magnetic anisotropy and/or antiferromagnetic
interactions between aggregates. A proposed mechanism consists of Ni8 SMMs filling the silica pores
and consequent aggregation which is mediated by deprotonated silanol groups present on the pores
(Fig. 4). In turn [Ni8]x aggregates, joined by Ni O Ni bonds interact in a ferromagnetic manner which
allows for the Ni8 monomers to undergo magnetic exchange interactions. This mechanism holds up to
a point, a 100% loading amount results in packing which imposes a steric strain on the filamentous
[Ni8]x and pushes the Ni O Ni angle towards a higher value, prompting antiferromagnetic interactions
leading to a decrease in magnetic susceptibility. AC magnetic measurements were used to verify the
retention of SMMs characteristics within the

Pros And Cons Of Sociological Theories
One of the main things sociology tries to explain is where sociology comes from. Social order can
begin to be explained through four theories looking at an individual or a group, and whether the
decisions they make are rational or irrational. The first theory is the exchange theory. The exchange
theory says that individuals make a rational choice to enter into relationships to get something out of
it. This is the theory criminal justice professionals use to see criminals. People make a rational choice
whether or not to commit a crime by weighing the pros and cons. Laws are enacted to make the scale
lean more towards the con side to deter crime. The next rational theory is the conflict theory. The
conflict theory says that people come together

Why Was Simon Bolivar More Important Than The Liberator
When it comes to the phrase A brilliant soldier but a poor politician I agree to the fullest extent that
Simon Bolivar was indeed this. He was one of the most powerful figures in world political history. He
led the independence movement for six nations; Venezuela, Columbia, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, and
Bolivia. After liberating all of these countries he was soon after nicknamed The Liberator . ◾After
hundreds of years of domination by Spain, Bolívar was instrumental in moving South America closer
to democratic governments. Bolívar successfully waged a number of military campaigns throughout
South America, defeating the Spanish on numerous occasions. But he is also essentially responsible
for the political instability that plagues the region ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the course of his whole lifetime he was able to free almost all of northern South America,
and at this point he was known as El Liberator. When studying South American independence efforts,
it is physically impossible to bypass Simon Bolivar because of his prevalence in all countries. He was
able to weave himself into the independence efforts of many countries, including Venezuela, Ecuador,
Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia. He was able to free these countries through a multitude of ways and had
significant effects on these countries, even to the extent that he is still known as El Libertador today.
In 1810, Venezuela s independence movement declared independence from Spain, and a new
government was created. However, the movement was defeated by Spain, and Bolívar was forced to
flee to Cartagena, Colombia. In 1813, fighting once again broke out between the rebels and the
Spanish. This time Bolívar and his troops successfully defeated the Spanish. Bolívar then went to New
Granada (present day Colombia) and took command of military forces. In May 1814, he captured the
capital, Bogotá. Bolívar believed that South America should have a parliamentary government
modeled after England but with a president for life. By 1821, Bolívar had successfully liberated
Venezuela, Ecuador, and New Granada and found the Republic of Gran

Allusions In Fahrenheit 451
hroughout the novel of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, there have been many allusions that
connected to alternative literature. fine famous authors like Shakspere, and Sir Phillip Sydney were

these works of literature improved the story. Beatty perpetually documented works of literature. There

Mildred could not accept Montag anymore; she was completely finished him, thus she sped off in a

Eyewitness Testimony Research
An eyewitness is a person who witnessed a particular crime or situation. AlleyDog.com defines an
eyewitness testimony as a situational account of a witness of what is typically a crime or an accident.
It is a legal term that essentially describes when a witness or victim is recounting their firsthand
experience to another person or to a court. Research has shown that a testimony can be incorrect due
factors such as stress, outside peers, misleading question and loss of memory (1998 2017). These
things must be taken into account so that a jury does not put an innocent person in prison. A reliable
witness should have the main characteristics; adequate perception, have a good memory and report it

  • 3. Assumptions In To Kill A Mockingbird To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel by Harper Lee, and it is historical fiction set in Maycomb, Alabama in 1933 during the Great Depression. Judging someone on false information or rumor is a common problem throughout many societies. Assumptions can lead to a large amount of damage to the person being judged. The character Boo Radley is locked away in a house where outside that house, he is constantly referred as the loon of the town. No one has ever met him, but everyone in the town of Maycomb, especially the Finch children, Jem and Scout, think they know all about him. The way the citizens view Boo Radley reflects how people can seriously misjudge someone and make assumptions about the person, even though they know nothing about him. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When people s azaleas froze in a cold snap, it was because he had breathed on them. Any stealthy small crimes committed in Maycomb were his work. (9/147) Boo Radley is clearly misjudged just because no one sees him. Rumors and assumptions often dictated people s views on things at that time. Scout is also very vague when she refers to people, which could mean that no one really said that. Crazy Addie was convicted of nocturnal disturbances in Maycomb, but people thought that it was somehow Boo Radley who committed the disturbances. Jem gives a description of Boo that Dill and Scout consider reasonable. However, the children don t know what reasonable is, because they have never really seen him. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time. (11) Boo is also described as six and a half feet tall, and he kills and eats squirrels and cats to survive. This was a description by a child who has never seen the actual person. Children have a lot of imagination, so they tend to exaggerate things. They want excitement in their lives at the expense of judging a man whom they cannot prove anything about. • 4. The Stages Of Grief Have Been A Topic Of Debate In Grief The stages of grief have been a topic of debate in grief counseling since their introduction in 1969 by Elisabeth Kubler Ross, in her book On Death and Dying . These stages of grief can be loosely described as a cycle of emotions that humans can expect to feel, resulting from some type of unexpected loss. Grief and loss is very normal process, and something most people will be forced to cope with at some point in their lives. However, to categorize each person s feelings into an arbitrary set of stages would not be realistic. In general, the five stages of grief are described as Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. The bereavement community has been quick to accept and assign grief in stages, most likely to lend a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People in denial often withdraw from their normal social behavior and become isolated. Denial has no set time frame, or may never be felt at all. However, it is considered the first stage of grief. Anger The second stage of grief is Anger. People that are grieving often become upset with the person or situation which put them in their grief state. After all, their life could now be in complete disarray. The path of least resistance is anger as opposed to facing the consequences of a loss head on. In the case of death, the anger is often focused toward the deceased for leaving that person behind and unable to cope. Other times people become angry at themselves if they feel they could have done something more to stop the loss from happening. Bargaining The third stage of grief is Bargaining. This is when those who are grieving are reaching out to the universe to make the pain go away. It is actually very normal, and largely considered to be a sign that they are beginning to comprehend their situation. People will often try to make a deal, or promise to do anything, if the pain will be taken away. Depression The fourth stage of grief is Depression. Contrary to popular belief, depression is something that may take some time to develop. We often think we are depressed when a grief event first occurs, but there is ... Voyeurism is originally defined as the practice of gaining sexual pleasure from watching others when they are naked or engaged in sexual activity . However, the term is also used to describe a general spying on, or having interest in, other people s lives. This kind of voyeurism is the central theme for Alfred Hitchcock s mystery thriller, Rear Window (1954). The film follows the boredom induced curiosity of photographer L.B. Jeff Jefferies. After the journey ends, we are left to contemplate the morality surrounding voyeurism, and Hitchcock s own proposal about the nature of the practice. Voyeurism in its generic form, has long been considered unethical due to its invasive nature. This viewpoint is expressed in the opening scene of the film by Jefferies insurance worker, Stella. She makes her entrance stating that The New York state sentence for a peeping tom is six months in the workhouse... . She goes on to say that his behaviour has her smelling trouble right here in [his] apartment and mimics his hypothetical court appearance. Lisa Freemont, Jefferies girlfriend, also comments on the issue, first when Jefferies tells her of his suspicions of Lars Thorwald; labelling his wild opinions as diseased while defensively giving alternate reasons for all of Jefferies questions about Thorwald. She uses the events of July 16, 1969 to serve her own purpose, to further the philosophy of objectivism. Objectivism, according to the Language of Composition, values individualism, freedom, and reason (33). These themes are very apparent in her commentary. Rather than seeing a rocket launch as a government endeavor, with many people working hard toward a common goal, she sees it as the concretized abstraction of man s greatness. She sees the human race as a singular being, and nature as something to be contained, and conquered successfully. The moon landing is evidence of man s superiority, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was at Cape Kennedy to see the rocket launch of Apollo 11. She describes the event in vivid detail, referring to the initial ignition as a large patch of bright, yellow orange flame shooting sideways from under the base of the rocket. She then moves into more poetic description, as the launch continues: The dark red fire parted into two gigantic wings, as if a hydrant were shooting streams of fire outward and up, toward the zenith and between the two wings, against a pitch black sky, the rocket rose slowly, so slowly that it seemed to hang still in the air, a pale cylinder with a blinding oval of white light at the bottom, like an upturned candle with its flame directed at the earth. While her description is based on her personal experience, her flowery language and use of imagery reveal her emotions beyond a simple statement of what she witnessed. She describes the fire and the rocket, two gigantic wings and an upturned candle, in such a way that showcase their majesty. The fact that man created this overwhelming sight speaks to his utter dominance. • 10. Why Is Ancient Egypt So Important To Ancient Civilization River Civilizations Essay. Rivers are very important to any ancient civilization. One of the major resources that rivers provided was silt. Silt is a kind of dirt filled with important minerals and nutrients that are very helpful in planting and growing crops. Silt is produced when a river floods and after the flood is over a nutrient rich soil is left over. Another recourse that rivers provide is food. Rivers can provide fish that can be used to feed a family or whole city. The final major function of rivers in my opinion is transportation. The Ancient Egyptians were able to predict flooding of the Nile which came in handy so they could be well protected and prepared. The Ancient Egyptians would actually celebrate the flooding the Nile because they knew that after the flood was over silt would be left over which they could use to grow crops if there was a drought. Egyptians were also excellent sailors which came in handy when it came time for trading. Ancient Egypt traded many of things like gold, papyrus, linen, and grain. • 11. Andrew Jackson Indian Removal Act Essay Andrew Jackson was a General in The United States army, and the 7th president, throughout his presidency he experienced many struggles with the Native Americans like wars and land disputes. In the 1830s he wanted to end these conflicts so he put in place the Indian Removal Act of 1830. I believe Andrew Jackson rightly and correctly removed the Indians. Even though many Indians died along the way Jackson had a reason behind what he did and should not be to blamed for their deaths. One of Andrew Jackson s reason behind the Indian Removal Act was so that the United States could achieve their goal of Manifest Destiny, which is the belief Americans had that God meant for their country to be expanded from east to west coast. ... The Seminole tribe, which was originated in the Everglades area in Florida, did not want to leave, they stayed in their home and fought for their land. In 1835, after the Indian Removal Act was passed, the Seminoles started the Second Seminole War with the United States army. The battle went on until 1842 and ended with only a couple of hundred of Seminoles left. At this time the United States army said the Seminoles could stay. So even though they lost, it was still a moral victory for the tribe. (Mahone 1998) The Cherokee Indians on the other hand faced conflicts that were not like any of the above Indian tribes. They were the last tribe to fight for their land which was in the Appalachian Mountains. The Cherokees were basically became their own country. They had a developed Republican Government, and their own Constitution. They had many conflicts with America though. For example, they had the same land claimed as Georgia causing a big problem that ended up in the Supreme Court. In this case the judges could not decide who had claim of the disputed land. • 12. Female Characters In And Then There Were None Women. They are a complete mystery, said the revolutionary physicist Stephen Hawking. In the novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, it is apparent that the female characters are portrayed in a manner that is both derogatory and stereotypical. Whether the incidents include a fellow character or the author directly using offensive insults, portrayals of hysteria or weakness compared to the males, or downright treating the female protagonists like objects or things, they are sometimes cruel and unnecessary. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters are described through hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be appropriate for impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting otherwise. One of the largest problems with And Then There Were None is the use of offensive and hurtful stereotypes while referring to the women in the novel, as well as indirectly stating that all women should be homemakers who cook and clean. With a pioneering female writer such as Agatha Christie, you would not necessarily expect such blaring misogyny, but it remains all the same. On a broader note, the three main female characters are each stereotypes of the crazy woman one following under her husband even for cruelty, one being bible crazy, and one being so in love she is willing to literally kill anyone who stands in her way. I think this was the most interesting article I have read about copyright. Lessig discusses the era of creativity and freedom of using one s work to create and imagine something completely knew. The author uses Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, and comics examples to address his views regarding how the art of creativity and freedom has changed upon the era of digital media. How technology has changed the freedom to created? One thing I was surprised by was how many times the copyright law has been altered. It used to be where copyright material had limited time until it ended up in public domain for others to uses. However, changes to copyright law throughout the years has keep on increasing the year of ownership, which gives big companies to monopolize. This lives no room for others to uses one s material. Automatically, copyright law regulates essentially any creative work reduced to tangible form. (pp.6). The first author Will (2007) comes across that his perspective is against the drug use in any sports and he uses an objective language in his writing to show that. In our textbook Chaffee, McMahon, and Stout, (2008) describes an objective language as the use of little personal judgement and using persuasive facts to lure the audience in your direction. • 18. The Spill Of The Bp Oil Spill The BP oil spill was one of the worst oil spills to ever happen in the US. There are many factors that caused this horrible spill to happen; to be exact there were eight failures of the oilrig that caused this disaster. The first failure was the cement at the bottom of the borehole was not sealed properly. This caused the oil and gas to start leaking into the pipe leading to the surface of the rig. The second failure was that the valve leading to the surface was sealed improperly with cement. In addition, there were two mechanical valves, which failed to stop the leak of gas and oil. The crew was also to blame because they did pressure tests, which they did not read properly. This made the crew believe the oil well was under control when it was not. The crew also did not spot the leak before the explosion; there was an increase in pressure inside the well fifty minutes before the explosion but the crew did not interpret it as a leak. Next, about eight minutes before the rig exploded, mud and gas began to come out onto the floor of the rig. The crew tried to stop this by activating the blowout preventer, which is at the top of the well, however this caused the blowout preventer to malfunction. The rig had side vents that were suppose to release this mud and gas, but instead it was diverted to a device that separates only small amounts of mud and gas. This device quickly became overwhelmed and flammable gas was sent all over the rig. The alarm on the rig should have sounded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The concept of Freedom of speech is one which is held sovereign by many constitutions and individuals, especially within the American states. Reflection On Interpersonal Communication Reflection Paper I have taken Interpersonal Communication before during the summer 2016, but I didn t pass it mainly because I wasn t as focused as I was in this class. Professor Castro just made it fun. Her lectures and her stories made it interesting. Every Mondays and Wednesdays, I had three classes. Interpersonal Communication would be my first class to start my day. Then two classes after that. I ended up dropping those two classes. I was supposed to drop this class too but I didn t because I wanted to learn more. I ve been in a relationship with my girlfriend for almost a year and one of the problems we had was listening. Sometimes she wouldn t listen to me or I just wouldn t listen to her at all. The day we had a lecture about listening in class, that same morning, we got in an argument about how I don t listen to her. I always listen to her but not when we argue. I usually avoid her when we are about to start arguing. I found it funny how the professor somehow knew I was in trouble with listening and she decided to have a lecture on listening. Unlike a history class or a math class or even reading class, this class actually helped me outside of school. I also learned that my professor is a volunteer basically everywhere. She participates in marches whenever she can. Her age doesn t stop her from making the community better and standing up for what she believes in. She is an inspiration. She asked the class to volunteer somewhere for three hours which was pretty cool. I haven t had any class in college where volunteering out in the community was a requirement. Because I had to volunteer for a grade in class, I am now volunteering for the resist march in Los Angeles, June 11. I wouldn t be going out to volunteer for this event if it weren t for this class. Knowing that my professor goes to protests and marches at her age, she is truly an inspiration. I don t usually have time to go out to marches anymore but seeing that she still does, I d want to participate more in the community. Now only problem I had in this class was that I never really had my own seat. I moved to different seats every time we had class. As a child, I was innocent of mortality, as a teen hope, and as a young adult love. However, later on that innocence took on the role of ignorance. Not in the sense of not being knowledgeable or educated on the subject but rather knowing it all too well that I choose to not acknowledge it. Innocence can be served as an instrument to tune out your surroundings when things take a toll. It can be an illusion from reality to protect what one desires to be true feel rather than what is actual. In Wendy Cope s poem Reading Scheme, Cope writes about the child s viewpoint of an affair by using the villanelle form to illustrate the inability of children to make connections and ultimately argue that innocence is simply an illusion. In order to understand the illusion of innocence in Wendy Cope s poem we must first familiarize ourselves on the subject of innocence and how, depending on the mindset, it is defined. Also, we must alert ourselves of Cope s writing style and the purpose of her writing. According to the article Archaeology: the loss of innocence, the loss of disciplinary innocence is the price of expanding consciousness...the loss is irreversible and the prize substantial (Clarke 6). Are we rewarded when our innocence abandons us or has suffering begun because now things are seen in a different aspect. The author of the article, David Clarke, claims innocence is a continuous losing process (Clarke 6). We continue to loss some sort of innocence into our teens, adulthood, and even our later years. It is when we choose to open ourselves to new experiences that our innocence beforehand disappears. Cope is well known for her manner of addressing serious or grave topics in a humorous way. Her writing style has double meaning to it. The serious tone of it hides between the lines of humor. The poem is about a mother having an affair with the milkman. Economic Theory Of Mercantilism The Mercantilist economic theory brings to view the nationalist effort that maximizes trade and the accumulation of gold and silver at the expense of other nations. This economic theory promotes national regulation of the economy and trade through the process of expanding the domestic industry. This approach went against free trade as it practices restrict imports and raise trade tariffs. Mercantilism was the primary economic system of trade between the 16th and 18th century, and it understood that wealth was static. Its perception of wealth led to the European nations implementing tariffs that would ensure they maintained their power through their wealth. This wealth perception restricted trade through tariffs that restricted imports while promoting exports. Hence, the static attitude of trade ensured that the European nations imposed their government regulations over countries that they were interested commercially. Therefore, the Mercantilism economic theory identified the insecurities of the European nations as the global market increased and their influences diminished. As he uses the rule of three to make his speech even better. s there is a beginning, middle and end in the life of the mythic hero. The three stories Jobs tells in his speech are about connecting the dots (how he learned how every action/event in life is connected), love and loss (how he found love and lost things/people close to him), and death (where Jobs discusses his own battle with cancer and the fear of dying). In his first short story to the audience, Jobs does a successful job with his rhetorical method. He repeats the phrase connecting the dots during the speech. He mentions that people can only connect those dots of life looking backwards which gives a powerful meaning to the audience. Not only with the starting but he ends his first story by telling that you should trust in something to connect dots and make future better. His timing and pace makes his speech so comfortable to the listeners that every word is familiar to the audience and clear in meaning. However, the second story lets the audience to truly measure their success. He brings pathos from the audience in two separate ways. First, he explains about the trouble with his Macintosh. • 38. People, Places, and Events Reflection I attended a student organization and development workshop series which was held on February 4, 2014 at Russell union. The topic for the workshop series was Building an Exclusive Campus and the speaker was Paul Bradley, a worker at the student activities office. This series scheduled to start at 7:00p.m. but it was started some minutes after seven due the lateness of the attendees. I attended this program because I thought it would help me learn about the different organizations on campus, and how to network through socialization which would help me to easily transition from college into medical school and blend with the others without feeling any different. Thus, to be able to make new friends, get to know people first before judging them, and last but not the least, learn of the many organizations and the important role I can play in them if I become a member to promote the organizations purpose existence. The speaker talked about how to promote an organization by making it open to everyone and not limiting it to a certain group of race, color, religion, gender and so on. By attending this sold series, I learned about how we easily stereotype a person or a group of individuals whom we have never spoken to but easily judge them because of their color, race, or background. The knowledge that I acquired at this event will help me to understand people and their actions especially my patients five years from now when I get into medical school and start working with a ... • 39. The Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach Introduction Adolescents are a population that can be at risk in regards to drug and alcohol abuse. A program called the Community Reinforcement Approach was created and later adapted into the Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach in the 1970s to address problems adolescents face when it comes to drug or alcohol abuse ( Intervention Summary Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A CRA) ). The Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach works with adolescents from the ages twelve to twenty five in both outpatient and residential settings. There are three parts to the program; the client has intervention alone first, next the guardian has intervention alone, and finally they have intervention together. It addresses mainly alcohol and drug abuse but also deals with mental health, homelessness, and other behaviors that can lead to substance abuse. The main focus of A CRA is designed to change certain aspects of the participants environment to make it so that non using behavior will be more rewarding than using behavior (Garner, et al., 2009). This program has been tested against multiple other approaches and it is usually the most cost effective option, making it a desirable program when the success rate is also factored in. Many rehabilitation facilities utilize this approach, for example the Maryhaven treatment center in Columbus, Ohio. Maryhaven uses a combination of residential and outpatient treatment plans, incorporating the Adolescent Community ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Binge Eating in Bulimia Nervosa Essay In our Western society, we have several different types of eating dysfunction, all of which are unique and tragic in their own right. Despite their individuality, however, they all have several overlapping symptoms that are key to their classification and severity. For Bulimia Nervosa (BN) and Binge Eating Disorder (BED), one of the core features is binge eating, which can be defined objectively by number of calories eaten in a given time or subjectively by the feelings of the binger. Binge eating has many different aspects that are of interest to scientists and clinicians alike. One of those interests has to do with the reduction of this symptom among populations being treated for their respective disorder. Because both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therapies used. Interpersonal therapy (IPT) is a derivative of therapy designed for depressed individuals, which originated from the New Haven Boston Collaborative Depression Project (Fairburn et al 1993). It borrows from the psychodynamic school of psychology, but concentrates on interpersonal functioning and involves three steps: 1) the first is an intensive analysis of the interpersonal context which the disorder develops and is maintained 2) the second involves addressing the interpersonal problems and contracting with the patients to work on these problems 3) the third deconstructs feelings about termination of therapy, reviews progress and outlines future work (Fairburn et al. 1993). Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is currently the most commonly used type of psychotherapy (Peterson Mitchell 1999). It is based on the cognitive view of bulimia nervosa, which weighs attitudes towards shape and weight as most significant for maintenance of the disorder. Therapy actually includes a combination of behavioral and cognitive directives aimed at changing patterns of behavior, attitudes of shape and weight, and cognitive distortions such as low self esteem (Fairburn et al. 1993). Behavioral therapy (BT) is similar to CBT but concentrates on behavioral procedures used to normalize eating habits. The major features are regaining control over eating, establishing a regular pattern of eating, and cessation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Did Edgar Degas s Use Of Visual Impairments A comparative analysis of two works by 20th and 21st century artists, Edgar Degas and John Bramblitt, where a discussion of their lives, their techniques and of course their works comes into focus. One of the main comparisons between these two artists is how visual impairments in both their cases affected their works. Whilst Degas s works became more hurried and quick although not losing his precision, Bramblitt s work still remained patient and calculated. Dancers ca. 1900 by Degas is a study drawing of what was later to be Dancers VI. It portrays three women dancing, although one seems to be centrally placed and in focus with two other women behind her dancing. This portrait of dancing women, is a draft done in pastels, with the expert mixing of various other materials such as gouache, tempera. This is attributed to the experimental nature of Edgar Degas s methods and techniques of creating his works. The lines are not sharp and crisp as you would expect in a typical impressionist s work and yet there is the subtle detailed definition such as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example: Titanium White is very thick like toothpaste while Ivory Black is fairly runny more like oil. By adding a little thinner you can make it even more so. In order to mix a gray halfway between white and black you simply mix for a texture that is halfway between the thick and thin paints. This is actually a very precise way of mixing color because your sense of touch is extremely adept at sensing subtle changes in texture. With practice it becomes even more so. (Bramblitt, ... • 43. Chlamydia, And, Etiology And Management Of Chlamydia Abstract: Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmitted disease in the United States. It can infect both men and women. Chlamydia is treatable but if left untreated it can cause permanent damage in female reproductive system and in males the damage is rare. Sexually active females and males should be tested every year. This article will review the epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis, etiology and management of Chlamydia. Introduction: Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common bacteria that cause sexual transmitted genital infections. C. trachomatis is a small gram negative bacterium. It is the most common cause of urethritis in men and cervicitis in females. Many patients are asymptomatic and thus provide an ongoing reservoir for infection. It allows ongoing transmission and allows silent disease. C.trachomatis infection can cause the scarring of the Fallopian tubes, ovaries, and endometrial lining. It results in an increase risk of future ectopic pregnancy and tubal infertility. Thus this bacterium is estimated to be the most costly sexually transmitted infection. Epidemiology: More than 2 4 million cases of Chlamydia are reported every year. The infection mostly occurs in females, age 15 24 years. Women are most likely to get a Chlamydial genitourinary infection and are most likely to be asymptomatic than men. Women develop long term complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. The prevalence of Chlamydia has been reported to be as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unimodal And Bimodal Silica In 2006, Franscesc Lloret et al. employed unimodal and bimodal silica based mesoporous materials as support hosts for octanuclear Ni(II) oxamate complex44 of formula {[Ni2(mpba)3][Ni(dpt)H2O)]6} (ClO4)4·12.5H2O}, (Ni8) with mpba = m phenylenedioxamate and dpt = dipropylenetriamine. This complex possesses a moderately anisotropic (S = 4) ground spin state (D = 0.23 cm 1) and exhibits slow magnetic relaxation below TB = 3.0 K in the crystalline state. The mesoporous silicas MCM 41, UVM 7 and UVM 11 were investigated to incorporate Ni8 SMMs. The unimodal silica MCM 41 has small pores of 2.8 nm diameter while UVM 7 has bimodal pores of 2.58 nm and 34.89 nm. In stark contrast, MCM 41 and UVM 7 show much different magnetic properties after successful incorporation into the silica pores. Notably, the χMT term for both silicas is higher than expected for magnetically isolated Ni8 molecules (such as those in UVM 11) which supports the presence of repeating Ni8 units forming [Ni8]x aggregates. χMT also reaches a maximum at a range of 3 10 K, in contrast to the Tmax = 3 K of the SMM alone where Tmax generally increases with increasing loading amount. This behavior can be rationalized due to magnetic anisotropy and/or antiferromagnetic interactions between aggregates. A proposed mechanism consists of Ni8 SMMs filling the silica pores and consequent aggregation which is mediated by deprotonated silanol groups present on the pores (Fig. 4). In turn [Ni8]x aggregates, joined by Ni O Ni bonds interact in a ferromagnetic manner which allows for the Ni8 monomers to undergo magnetic exchange interactions. This mechanism holds up to a point, a 100% loading amount results in packing which imposes a steric strain on the filamentous [Ni8]x and pushes the Ni O Ni angle towards a higher value, prompting antiferromagnetic interactions leading to a decrease in magnetic susceptibility. AC magnetic measurements were used to verify the retention of SMMs characteristics within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Pros And Cons Of Sociological Theories One of the main things sociology tries to explain is where sociology comes from. Social order can begin to be explained through four theories looking at an individual or a group, and whether the decisions they make are rational or irrational. The first theory is the exchange theory. The exchange theory says that individuals make a rational choice to enter into relationships to get something out of it. This is the theory criminal justice professionals use to see criminals. People make a rational choice whether or not to commit a crime by weighing the pros and cons. Laws are enacted to make the scale lean more towards the con side to deter crime. The next rational theory is the conflict theory. The conflict theory says that people come together ... In 1810, Venezuela s independence movement declared independence from Spain, and a new government was created. However, the movement was defeated by Spain, and Bolívar was forced to flee to Cartagena, Colombia. In 1813, fighting once again broke out between the rebels and the Spanish. This time Bolívar and his troops successfully defeated the Spanish. Bolívar then went to New Granada (present day Colombia) and took command of military forces.
