What Color Is Your Parachute Book Summary
Best Audience This book is designed for anyone looking for a change in employment. Individuals
preparing to enter the workforce for the first time, those hoping to transition from one job to another,
and those who are presently unemployed or underemployed are all part of the intended audience. It
also keeps the family members of job hunters in mind. Content Richard Bolles wrote this book to be a
straightforward, essentials only guide for job seekers. It contains many of the same themes as his best
seller What Color is Your Parachute, but with less detailed analysis and discussion. He covers
numerous topics including: finding hope for the job search, addressing stressors of unemployment,
good and bad methods for tracking down jobs, developing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is structured to give the reader the most important information for successful job hunting in a very
concise manner. In fact, the entire book is less than 100 pages! Strengths of the book There are
numerous positive elements regarding this book. It is inexpensive, easy to read, concise without being
weak on content, and it maintains a positive and inspiring tone from beginning to end. Bolles
demonstrates his expert understanding of this topic, but he never does so in a demeaning or high
minded way. The entire book has an encouraging and conversational style that helps keep its intended
audience motivated to continue the job hunt. While it is a short book, the publishers have included a
helpful and comprehensive index. Weaknesses There are no glaring weaknesses regarding the book s
content; however, some readers may find a few of the charts and figures difficult to read. Several
charts contain content that runs very close to the spine of the book, and some figures use a much
smaller font than the rest of the content. Author s other

Summary Of Carnegie By Peter Krass
Andrew Carnegie never wanted to move to America; with tears he reluctantly walked on the boat and
said goodbye his Uncle Lauder and his cousin Dod, and started the 4,000 mile journey to the land of
the free, petrified of what was to come. The trip and the new land would bring new opportunities that
he would impact his life forever. Carnegie by Peter Krass is one of the best historical books that
accurately portrays the events that have occurred over Carnegie s life. Classrooms all across the
United States should read Carnegie because you learn the struggle that the working class overcame to
have an improved working conditions. Money was important to the workers, as it is for everyone, pay

Canterbury Tales Masculinity Analysis
In this paper, I will explore various discourses that shaped the understanding of male gender in
medieval England and the notion of masculinity in Canterbury Tales.
The medieval concept of maleness was heavily influenced by the writings of the classical period. The
physiological and other medical theories that constituted this concept were not restricted to the domain
of medicine. They were supported by the religious doctrines. All of these rhetorics were based on a
common assumption that men are physically, morally, and intellectually superior to women. A key
component that defined maleness was virility. Men were charged with the duty of taking care of
women s health by regularly performing sexual intercourse so that their uterus did not dry up and she
remained fertile. So important was this trait to the idea of masculinity that it was considered as a valid
reason for divorce. This caused a woman s chastity to be inextricably linked with her husband s honor.
Adulterous behavior on the wife s part was considered to be a sign of weakness in a man. A
disobedient daughter also tainted a father s honor and diminished his masculinity. A consequence of
this was that a woman s body became a site of sexual violence to avenge one s honor. The Reeve s
Tale presents an instance of this, where two Cambridge undergraduates are determined to teach the
dishonest miller a lesson and achieve their motive by sleeping with his daughter and wife. Another
parameter on which manhood was judged was the sex of the child he engendered. In his writings,
Aristotle had claimed that male semen was the source of life. This belief was reinforced by the
medieval physicians. If a man begot a male heir, his masculinity was bolstered. These discourses
resulted in a strict division between the two sexes. While women could transgress this code of conduct
without severe repercussions, men were forbidden from exhibiting any feminine behavior. Many
instances of cross dressing among women have been found both in literature and reality; however such
impersonation was not permitted for men.
The definition of masculinity has been broadly divided into: heroic, Christian, courtly, and intellectual.
The varying definitions of masculinity often gave rise

Henri Matisse s Woman With The Hat
When defining the use of art it has many meanings. Although, my definition of art is when something
captures your imagination, provoking an intentional feeling in you. Woman with the Hat or La Femme
au chapeau (page 725) is a painting by a French artist Henri Matisse, completed in the year of 1905.
Oil on canvas painting, it s height is 80.56 cm high and 59.69 cm wide. Matisse believed that color
could play a primary role in conveying meaning and focused his efforts on developing this notion. In
this painting Matisse portrayed his wife, Amelie Parayre, it was first shown at the Salon d Automne,
Paris. Amelie s pose for the portrait is very original, her face has a sad expression. It s obvious why
Matisse named the painting Women with the Hat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amelie s face, clothes, hat, and the background consists of colorful patches and blotches that
somehow produces a contrast and makes the painting look spontaneous. This painting is shocking to
me because the use of non naturalistic colors and loose brushwork contributes an unfinished look. It is
arranged by creating an energetic tense effect. Moreover, the elements of art in Women with the Hat
are line, shape, space, color, texture, and tone. The lines of the painting are natural and soft. As well as
the shapes, the lines are curved and organic. The shapes are very circular, their rounded nature focuses
on the humanity and softness of a woman. The surroundings of Mitasse s painting are light, therefore
the space is positive. The colors are bright and vibrant reds and greens and different types of blues.
Amelie s nose shines with a yellow dot Pinks and greens are found in the background of the painting.
The bright colors are kept in balance with the black outlines of Amelie and her clothing. The texture of
this whole painting shows the rough brush strokes. Also, the patches of color on the background
shows the different strokes and texture used which gives the painting a sense of

Chapter 9 Blum And Harvey Essay
Question: In Chapter 9, Blum and Harvey discuss the many competing versions of Christ that all exist
at the same time in the United States. How do these themes parallel to the representations of Jesus in
comedy?
Answer: One of the popular images of Jesus in modern times is his depiction as a Middle Eastern man,
especially noticeable after the attacks on September 11, 2001. With the increasing amounts of Middle
Eastern people on television, believers had to reconcile these images with their idea of Jesus from that
same region. As seen in Paul Mooney s stand up routine, he joked about the fear of terrorism and
suggested that Osama Bin Laden probably looked like Jesus. Another trend in depictions of Jesus was
the sexualization of his body, creating

had their faces painted. Many tourists were taking pictures with the Cannons and Nikon cameras and
really enjoyed the festival. I feel that this holiday will eventually become mainstream and global,
which is scary because this holiday can lose it significance and purpose of honoring the dead. The
article also focused on the idea of hybridity and how this holiday is a process of selectively combing
elements of cultural practices and beliefs to make meaning.

Mountain Top Removal Essay
Mountain Top removal mining (MTM), is decimating some of the last pristine environments left in our
country, and it needs to stop. The devastation left in the wake of mans pursuit to satisfy his insatiable
greed for energy, is nothing shy of a brutal crime scene. I feel, like many others, it has got to be
stopped, and replaced with a more sensible, and appropriate, appetite for energy. The severe health,
and environmental risks are abundant, yet we continue to mask this atrocity behind statistics, and well
orchestrated advertising. As noted by RP Siegel of Triple Pundit Magazine (April 2012), Coal contains
the most CO2 per BTU, the largest contributor to global warming. Obviously, this should be enough to
convince the average, sensible individual that there is no more tolerance for continued MTM
practices. However, big mining companies continue to destroy delicate ecosystems, rural family lands,
and cause irreversible damage to the geological infrastructure of the land. ... Show more content on

As the name states, mountain top removal literally maims the land by the insertion of dynamite into
the sides of the mountaintops. Once lit, they completely blow the entire surface, and subterranean rock
formations to bits. The casualties suffered by the land chemically are equally as destructive as the
physical damage. For example the leaching of coal ash, methane, Sulfur Dioxide, and nuclear
radiation (Uranium) emitted from the soil particulates, are just a few of the contaminants released. The
slurry that is left behind, is then crudely covered with surrounding topsoil, and scattered with seeds.
Many times the seeds that are left behind are invasive species, which then rapidly consume every

A Look into the Secrets behind Advertising
Did you know that in the course of an average day you are bombarded by over three thousand
advertisements? (Faigley 93) From bus stations and newspapers, to e mails, television, and music
videos, today s marketers are finding innovative ways to make their advertisements sophisticated and
appealing so that they can lure consumers to their products. How has this phenomena occurred? This
strategic advertising is not as complicated as it sounds. In fact, businesses use a formula like approach
when creating such advertisements. In order to be a savvy consumer, I recommend that you be aware
of these techniques.

Free Speech Essay
Free Speech
Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.
These words were spoken by Benjamin Franklin, one of our nation s founding fathers, when the
United States was still a newly independent country. Free speech, which is defined as the right to
express any opinion in public without censorship or restraint by the government, is a subject that is
still present in the minds of many people today. At one extreme of the spectrum is a group of folks that
do not care the slightest bit about free speech issues and at another end is a group of people who will
vehemently fight to protect their right to free speech. In a middle ground, like most peoples stance, lay

There are many different groups that choose to implement internet filtering software on computers that
they own. Among these groups are libraries, schools, employers, and parents. In December of 2000,
the United States Congress passed the Children s Internet Protection Act (CHIPA), which is legislation
that forced public and private libraries as well as schools that are federally funded through certain
federal programs to install internet content blocking software for both child and adult users alike. If
libraries and schools that chose to implement the internet blocking technology on their computers
were compensated or benefited monetarily through additional government subsidy would have been
fine, but when the government is federally mandating censorship it is a direct violation of individuals
rights to free speech and expression guaranteed by the first amendment of the Bill of Rights to the
Constitution of the United States of America. In an educational organizations letter to legislation, a
strong opposition was expressed regarding the mandated censorware in schools and libraries across
the nation. Several points were made in opposition to the internet content filters. The organization
states that the new mandatory

Disconnection Essay
When people are feeling down or there is something wrong with them they tend to disconnect from
the world and go into one of their own. In this place they find comfort and safety and it is somewhere
that no one can bother them for the time being. I myself find comfort just lying in my bed staring at
the ceiling and drifting off in thought. For artists though, they are able to find this comforting place in
music. Blink 182, Linkin Park, and NAS are some of the famous artists that are able to disconnect
from the world through their songs. They are able to get all of there thoughts out through music and
the world has a chance to hear them.

and that is what he is going to judge you on in the end. The group became disconnected from the
world in order to think of this song. They must have spent a lot of time gathering there thoughts and
opinions to come up with the lyrics and verses.
The best example of feeling disconnected come from the lyrics of Blink 182 s quot;Adam s song
quot;. This song was written by the drummer of the band to express how life was on tour. quot; The
tour was over we d survived I couldn t wait till I got home to pass the time in my room alone quot;.
All the drummer wants to do is go home to lie in his bed and disconnect from the world. He had been
on tour for months entertaining people and he never had anytime for himself so all he wanted to do
was be alone and not have to make anyone but himself happy.
Song writers are excellent on expressing their feeling os disconnection from he world because they
usually never have anytime to be themselves so they express is through song. I think that everyone
needs time to disconnect in one way or another. It gives you time to be by yourself and think about
things that are

Synopsis Of The Novel Train On Pakistan By Khushwant...
The well known novel Train to Pakistan initiates study on theme of partition. This story opens the
phase of political hatred, violence and sectarianism in a brilliant and realistic way. Related to those
decisive or fateful days, which were brought by the British Raj followed by destruction, death and
deracination for the north of the subcontinent; Khushwant Singh refers to the fact that India might
have gained independence then, but the price they paid for it was Partition . The strength and the
power of unity were deliberately divided between the two nations. It depicts the pitiful tale of
individuals and communities suffered in the revolution of Partition. Tran to Pakistan illustrates the
agony suffered on both sides of the political boundaries India and Pakistan after the partition.
In general, partition uprooted the whole country and it is described as one of the deadliest experience
the natives ever had of leaving their belongings behind and adapting the idea of new land, which was
not theirs. The harrowing and spine chilling events of 1947 had shaken the faith of the people in the
innate human beings. It had driven them into the state of wonder over what man has made of man. To
Khushwant Singh, this was a period of great disillusionment and crisis of values, a distressing and
disintegrating period of his life. The belief he had cherished all his life was shattered. Giving strength
to his inner struggle and agony, he says: I had believed in the innate goodness

Encounters With An Archdruid Summary
Taylor Cox AP Environmental Science 2 April 2017 Encounters with an Archdruid details the
adventures of environmentalist David Brower, as a compoundment of narratives...of journeys made in
three wildernesses on a coastal island, in a Western mountain range, and on the Colorado River in the

of struggle against miners, developers, and even the United States Bureau of Reclamation. Encounters

Brower s interaction with Charles Park, a mineral engineer inent locating and utilizing mineral

Business Evaluation And Its Solution
Introduction:
Server virtualisation is a virtualisation technique, in which physical server gets partitioned into
multiple small, virtual servers with the help of virtualisation software. Each virtual server can run
multiple operating system instances at the same time. Virtualization helps you reduce capital spending
by server consolidation and reduce costs through automation, while minimizing lost access by
reducing both planned and unplanned downtime.
Business evaluation and its solution:
When running virtual applications on a machine, it helps in reducing the hardware and operating costs,
simplify it, the company Application Management. Complex virtual environments require new holistic
approaches to traditional IT services such as performance debugging, capacity planning, change
management and risk analysis.
Higher availability
One of the fundamental focal points of virtual servers is that they are totally isolated from each other,
running as if they depend on discrete fittings, which diminishes downtime amid upkeep periods. This
implies that changes could be made to one virtual server without influencing others having the same
equipment. This implies that support is possible in a creation environment without influencing
business and creating disturbances.
Cheaper implementation
Consider, for instance, the instance of the server base where as opposed to obtaining 5 Windows
Server 2003 licenses, which would cost you something in the locale of $10,000 $15,000 in

Doctors believe however, that there is little proof that Crohn s disease is caused by emotional distress
or by unhappy childhood (Crohn s disease website). Crohn s disease may occur at any age but occurs
most often between the ages of 15 and 40 years. Crohn s disease tends to run in some families. About
20 percent of people with Crohn s disease have a blood relative with an inflammatory bowel disease.
Crohn s disease rates appear to run higher in those that smoke. This means an individual who may
inherit an inflammatory bowel disease, is more likely to develop Crohn s disease if they smoke
(Satsangi, 1996, p.40). Both sexes are affected with the women as a slightly higher chance. Crohn s
disease occurs more often in Jewish and upper middle class urban populations (Lewis et al, 1996,
p.1231).
Symptoms / Complications
The principal symptoms of Crohn s disease are diarrhea and abdominal pain. Other symptoms include
abdominal cramping and tenderness (often in lower right area), abdominal distention, fever, fatigue,
and rectal bleeding. Bleeding may be serious and persistent, leading to a low red blood cell count or
anemia. As the disease progresses, malnutrition, dehydration, electrolyte, imbalances, increased

English As A Global Language
English as a Global Language English is a lingua franca (ELF) where the use of English language is a
common language between speakers whose native languages are different (Merriam Webster
Dictionary 2015). However, this does not mean that ELF interactions are speaking what is considered
proper English, but whether or not they effectively communicate. This does not exclude native
speakers, but rather it places emphasis on the interactions between persons of different mother tongues
and cultural backgrounds. While other scholars argue that ELF neutrality is cultural free or not (House
2003), Hülmbauer (2007) views it as multicultural because it seems likely that the ELF users develop
their own markers of identity (be they of a common European or international nature or more
individual ones which are created online, depending on the community of practice they are emerging
in). More often than not, ELF interactions stay between non native speakers where native speakers
make up the minority (Paradowski 2008). When discussing ELF interactions, there is this notion that
that speakers of ELF feel as though they do not have to adhere to native speaker norms, but only use it
accommodate to their communicative needs (Firth 1996). Linguistic expert Braj Kachru (1985)
integrates ELF into a model of circles: the Inner Circle, Outer Circle, and the Expanding Circle. These
circles represent the types of spread, the patterns of acquisition and the functional domains in which

Analysis of Engineering Student Motivation using the Expectancy Value Theory

December 5th, 2014
Colorado State University
JTC 300 R27 eric.gauck@gmail.com Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine the initial preconceptions that engineering freshmen believe
when they first arrive at Colorado State University. Specifically, it will examine the dichotomies
between student perception and reality; hopefully revealing the perceptions and values which lead
students to leave or persevere in engineering. The focus of analysis on student motivation utilizes the
Expectancy Value Theory. Three aspects of the Expectancy Value Theory, expectation, utility, and
perseverance, are significant factors which contribute to the completion of challenges. These factors
are integrated into a questionnaire designed to evaluate the expectations of freshman engineering
students. The implementation of a numerically scaled questionnaire developed from components of
the Expectancy Value Theory allows the abstract concept of motivation to be quantified. The analysis
of 86 freshman engineering students found that students will need to develop a value in what they are
learning or a drive for future goals to persist in completing their declared degrees. Further data
collection is recommended to improve sample quality.
Introduction
This empirical report tests a sample population to better understand the motivations and expectations

with a newer form of social division.
The nature/nurture debate is neither unique nor particular to the 1944 Act, but it is something to be
addressed. Nature, suggesting your intelligence is inherited from your parents and nurture, the belief
that learning is affected by the home and the school environment. Relating the debate to the 1944 Act,
brings to our attention the difference in education between social classes. The upper and middle class
children would have definitely had advantage over the working class children, in terms of cognitive
development, as their parents would have been well educated and able to pass on far greater
knowledge. They also would have had better living conditions and quieter homes to concentrate on
homework. The working class tended to have many children, shared bedrooms would have been
common, which was not the ideal learning environment.
The philanthropic aspects of the act were very much linked to the Second World War. The generally
poor fitness standards of the working class recruits highlighted to the government that changes needed
to be made. Free milk in schools, regular

Persuasive Essay On Black Male Incarceration
Black Male Incarceration
As the time in this semester has progressed I have been awoken by Dr. Cambrice, I ve been awoken to
the inequalities we face in society on numerous of levels. An assortment of categories such as race,
gender, and academics proposed I was inspired to write about Black Male Incarceration. With Dr.
Cambrice s teaching and after watching the film called 13th I was awoken.
Male incarceration is a massive system of racial and social control. (Michelle Alexander, 2014 ) The
world we live in today is 5% of the world s population however, 25 % are prisoners meaning one out
of every 4 humans are incarcerated or will be. Now one must question how this epidemic continues to
grow. Let s start by looking into what the 13th amendment did for the African American community
for generations to come. The 13th amendment grants freedom to all, except for criminals. ( Michelle
Alexander, 2014) With that being documented it gave the nation a tool to throw us behind bars for
years to come. With Nixon s administration coining the term war on drugs the destruction of the black
community began. During the 1970 s the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

be thrown into jail and left there to rot because the prison system is a business. When folks invest their
money, they need investments in return. Therefore, they have no choice but to go after our young

Anger Is A Type Of Emotion
Many people ask the question of What anger is? Today in the 21st century people deal with anger and
do not know how to deal with it. Before dealing with anger you would have to know what causes
anger and what to do when others deal with anger. According to Think Psychology anger is an
emotion is a reaction to an object, event, person or memory (Baird, 194). Anger is a type of emotion,
which is experienced with facial expressions. Anger is a type of emotion, which is a primary emotion.
Some influences of an emotional expression are someone s personality, their culture which anger is
universal, or their gender.
Those who deal with anger it are normal for then to have stress when angry. Many people describe
anger as strong passion or emotion of displeasure (Chapman, Ch.1). Anger is neither a good or bad
emotion. There are other emotions like fear and depression that cause someone to feel angry. When
someone feels anger it can involve both the body and the mind.
A popular quote from Aristotle about anger is Anyone can become angry. That is easy. But to be angry
with the right person to the right degree, at the right time for the right purpose, and in the right way:
that is not easy. (Chapman, Ch.1). It is not easy for someone to be angry with someone or something
and at the same time have the same person make you angry.
The main reason that causes anger can be wither from stress, financial issues, social and family issues,
drugs and alcohol abuse or from aggressive

Lego And The Toy Industry
Introduction
LEGO has been in the toy industry since the Great Depression when Danish carpenter Ole Kirk
Kristiansen and his sons began making wooden toys (Bigus, 2011). Showing ingenuitive spirit, after
the end of World War II, LEGO became the first company in Denmark to purchase a plastic injection
molding machine, this was an expensive moving hinging on the risk that plastic toys were the toy of
the future (Bigus, 2011). Soon after the purchase, LEGO expanded its business to include the first
plastic LEGO bricks (Bigus, 2011). Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, one of Kristensen s sons observed
during the toy fair of 1954 a new way to market LEGO as a system of play so that the toys could be

During the next decade LEGO expanded on licensing rights as well as into the video game segment,
online gaming and social networking contests (Brigus, 2011). LEGO had become a large segmented
company that faced dwindling profits during the years between 1998 and 2004 (Brigus, 2011). The
company had problems with manufacturing and distribution, the management began to notice
inefficiency in these areas and made many changes in order to bring the company back on track to
profitability. These changes allowed LEGO by 2010, to reach all time high annual sales and maintain
private ownership (Brigus, 2011). Since the company s debut into the toy industry the company has
grown to become the fourth largest toy manufacturer in the world with 4,000 employees (Brigus,
2011).
LEGO s Future LEGO users have a strong tradition of innovation. Children and adults alike can spend
hours on creating remarkable feats using the patented LEGO bricks. Sharing these innovations have
become much easier via the internet. In order to collaborate with customers and increase
communication, in 2005 LEGO created the ambassador program to provide a fast and direct way for
the company and fans to connect (Antorini, Muniz, Askildsen, 2012). Through trial and error the

Testing Safety For A Laboratory Environment
Introduction
Working in a laboratory can be one of the most dangerous jobs to perform if you are not aware of the
necessary precautions that need to be taken. Two of the main issues that can arise in the laboratory are
improper use of sharp object and use of chemical. It is very important that proper lab safety skills are
conducted to prevent potential incidents from occurring. Lab safety is not only to protect you from
incidents but it is also to protect the people around you. Safety should always be first priority. There
are three main topics that should always be practiced when working in a lab setting, Proper
handwashing, safety techniques for yourself and others, and how to properly clean/dispose of
hazardous material. After this lab, the expected result is a better understanding on how to properly
conduct yourself in a laboratory environment.
Methods and Materials
The first topic addressed is how to properly wash your hands. The first unit of the lab consists of
proper handwashing etiquettes. Proper handwashing in the laboratory requires running water, soap,
and paper towels. Before washing one s hands, one should make sure all hand jewelry is taken off.
Once the faucet is turned on, one should wet his/her hands before adding soap. After the hands have
been wet and soap has been applied, one should thoroughly scrub his/her hands together for at least 20
seconds. A nail brush may also be used to clean up under the nails. After rubbing the hands

Coral Reef Deforestation
Where have all the coral reefs gone? Reef deforestation has been occurring around the globe at an
alarming rate and is affecting us more than we think. These beautiful reefs are a diverse marine
version of a tropical rainforest and is an ecosystem that homes thousands of species. Coral reefs grow
in oceans that are clear and clean and they need the sun for photosynthesis. Unfortunately, this
underwater paradise is becoming less and less of an attraction due to the destruction of them. Places
such as Mexico, Australia and Florida are having shortages of income due to the lack of coral reefs.
As well as the fact that industries aren t getting a steady income, marine animals are suffering too.
When coral reefs are destroyed, all the marine life that the coral reef supported now doesn t have a

The Enlightenment Set the Stage for New Imperialism
New imperialism was the mid nineteenth and twentieth centuries cultural equivalent to a modern day
mafia, its roots entangled in the economic, cultural, and humanistic aspects of life. The sole objective
of the nations entailed the exploitation of their controlled state. Gestating from the change in control
of Asian and African nations to the Europeans by means of political deviance, malicious sieges, and
strategic military attacks. The juxtaposition to the modern equivalent endures as the aforesaid is
sheltered by the fairytale that these nations were in need of aid and by doing so the Europeans were
the good guys. The ideas of new imperialism are greatly influenced by those of the enlightenment.

An account of the extreme dependence on the slave trade is that of the Robin Johns. Brothers who
endured years of harsh conditions and experienced the nefarious realities of the trade firsthand, yet
they continued to trade slaves upon returning home as free men; justified only by their strong ties to
Britain and their unique skills (Sparks, 147). The enlightenment formed a pretense of universalism,
while new imperialism furthered the fairytale. Tabula Rosa, meaning blank slate, was a term John
Locke used to convey the ability to convert people through the influence of the environment around an
individual (Genova, 1/13). This was used during new imperialism as a scapegoat. Nations set out on
civilizing missions in order to disguise their imperialist nature. Furthermore, The White Mans Burden
was a written work that was used to rationalize destroying cultures and creating satellite nations,
because it was their burden to help the people of the less sophisticated nations. This aid was in the
form of forced colonization, imbalanced trade, and forced slavery. For example, the Portuguese set out
on their mission of new imperialism to gain trade and slaves (Genova, 2/15). Stemming from
universalism, imperialist nations pursued the enlightenment idea of social Darwinism. Which equated
to survival of the fittest, not only were the subject of Darwin s original experiment animals, the

Essay On Critique Of Pure Reason By Immanuel Kant
Immanuel Kant s Critique of pure reason aims to question and evaluate what is ultimately real, and to
discover the restrictions and scope of pure reason. The main doctrine within the critique being the idea
of transcendental idealism, concerning epistemology. Kant s doctrine aims to show that humans can
only construct knowledge from their senses. This opposed the previous views of Rene Descartes
idealism and George Berkley s complete denial of the existence of matter. Universal concepts which
Kant regards as categories then filter the sense impressions we receive. Kant s idea of the noumenal

third description between colour and not having colour is impossible. It either has a colour or does not.
In my opinion, Kant can overcome this weakness within the argument for noumena by using the
distinction between positive and negative predicates. Kant could hold that the noumenal realm can

The hydrophobic anchor which holds the Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of gram negative bacteria in the
outer leaflet of the outer membrane is Lipid A. This component is produced within the bacterial cell
cytoplasm through the Lpx biosynthetic pathway (reference). Lipid A is then transported to the outer

for virulence and bacterial viability. These qualities make it an attractive drug target which could aid

Antibiotics are developed for the treatment of bacterial infections due to their effective clinical
properties (Appendix Fig. 2). They are extensively utilized for the inhibition of bacterial; DNA, RNA,
proteins and cell wall synthesis (reference). However, the efficiency of treating bacterial infections has
vastly deteriorated because of the ongoing emergence of multi drug resistant pathogens (Appendix
Fig. 3 Table 1 8) (reference). The prolonged use and misuse of antibiotics have resulted in the
evolution of bacteria attaining mechanisms which, prevent antibiotics from binding to their molecular
targets (Appendix Fig. 4) (reference). Additionally, antibiotic resistance occurs in both gram negative
and gram positive bacteria. An important aspect of antimicrobial resistance has been shown to be the
presence of LPS in most gram negative bacteria (reference). The negatively charged highly polar LPS
symbolises a tenacious barrier which reduces permeability. This barrier protects the bacterial outer
membrane bilayer against hydrophobic compounds including, the entry of antibiotics into bacterial
cells (reference). There are very few drugs which target LPS pathways. LPS signifies one of the major
paramount obstacles to the innovation of gram negative

Gertrude Betrayal In Hamlet
According to a web dictionary, betrayal is to disappoint the hopes or expectations of; be disloyal to
(Dictionary.com). The element of betrayal is a reoccurring action in the tragedy, Hamlet. Gertrude,
Hamlet`s mother, betrays Hamlet by marrying his uncle Cladius right after the death of King Hamlet.
Hamlet`s friends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern betrayed Hamlet by going alone with Claudius
commands by spying on Hamlet while also reporting back to Cladius. Cladius betrays Hamlet by
killing King Hamlet and taking the throne. Betrayal is one of the primary keys to the play, Hamlet.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern was Hamlets two friends that he delegated. Although neither one did
not deceived him at first, they both quickly turned on him by into listening to Claudius. Spying on
Hamlet just for gold that King Claudius promises, young Hamlet saw this as a huge betrayal towards
him. Especially knowing that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were his childhood friends. According to
Shakespeare, To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer, the
slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles... (HamletQuotes).
Scheming with King Claudius to kill Hamlet both Rosencrantz and Guildenstern epitomized disloyalty
and untruthfulness. After finding out what his two close old time friends did, Hamlet soon arranged
for them to be executed. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern fell in a high ranking to his life and this put
Hamlet to an all time low.
Lastly, Cladius betrays Hamlet by taking the throne right after killing his father King Hamlet.
Hamlet`s analyses of this marriage and relationship bring him to an ultimate high of being wounded
and distraught. Throughout the play, Claudius plotted to kill Hamlet and many different occasions in
the play. Claudius wasn`t so much as a bad ruler; although, he did have to delight Gertrude to keep the
throne. His greed and foolishness put him in

Sam Armstrong Legacy
Thesis
The Leadership and experience of Samuel Chapman Armstrong, during the Civil War mainly caused
his legacy displayed by one of his most influential students, Booker T. Washington. Booker T.
Washington carried this legacy by continuing the philosophy of Samuel Chapman Armstrong through
the development of the Tuskegee Institute and Washington s political influence. Booker T. Washington
was able to adopt Chapman s teaching style and philosophy from Armstrong at Hampton University,
thus starting his view on the concept of good work being done from good men.
Samuel Chapman Armstrong lived among missionaries, since his birth on January 30,1839 in Maui,
Hawaii. Samuel Armstrong attended grade school at Punahou school in Honolulu, Hawaii then ...

He covered a district, including from the area of the James and York rivers , Surry, and the isle of
Wight counties. Armstrong strove to reduce the large population of homeless African American
refugees and other refugees by advising them to accept jobs as farm workers. The common shared
opinion of the black refugees was that Samuel Armstrong favored aiding the white land owners in
economic depression, rather than the African American refugees. This opinion showed evidence of
Samuel Armstrong s favor of assisting the African American population, but at the same time his
belief in the superiority of the white race. Samuel Armstrong intended on teaching African Americans
how to support their own problems, and getting the black population to be able to compete with the
white population on economical and political

is a transition metal in the middle of the periodic table. The symbol for copper is Cu , which comes
from the Latin word cuprum, which came from the Latin word for the island of Cyprus, where copper
was found. Copper can be found as a metal in the ground. It is found in small amounts in living things.
Some mollusks and arthropods have blue blood because they have copper in their blood. Copper may

The Quite American By Graham Greene
In The Quite American, Graham Greene unravels a tale of three lovers at the time of major political
chaos. Political chaos refers to the pre Vietnam War tension in Vietnam, during which the United
States of America (USA/US) was partially and two European nations (France and Britain) were
wholly exerting themselves into the political conflict between North Vietnam (Communist region) and
South Vietnam (non Communist region). People s Republic of China (PRC) also exerted itself into the
conflict through North Vietnam (Mamaux, et al. 127). PRC is mentioned throughout Greene s text as
China but the PRC/North Vietnamese/South Vietnamese relationship is not discussed the way that the
South Vietnamese/US/European (non communist) political relationship is discussed. It is crucial to
note that the author discusses the non communist relationship by developing the three lovers (main
characters) as a physical representation of the region that they identify with. For instance, Thomas
Fowler represents Europe because he identifies as a British. Phoung and Alden Pyle represent South
Vietnam and US, respectively. While the dynamic of South Vietnamese/US/European political
relationship is seen through the three lovers, the readers are only about to know about the PRC/North
Vietnamese/South Vietnamese relationship through the lens and to the extent of the relationship that
they share with Europe and US. This implies that a part of Vietnam s story is excluded. The Quite
American is,

Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) Essay
Youth crime is a growing epidemic that affects most teenagers at one point in their life. There is no
question in society to whether or not youths are committing crimes. It has been shown that since 1986
to 1998 violent crime committed by youth jumped approximately 120% (CITE). The most
controversial debate in Canadian history would have to be about the Young Offenders Act (YOA). In
1982, Parliament passed the Young Offenders Act (YOA). Effective since 1984, the Young Offenders
Act replaced the most recent version of the Juvenile Delinquents Act (JDA). The Young Offenders Act
s purpose was to shift from a social welfare approach to making youth take responsibility for their
actions. It also addressed concerns that the paternalistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Youth crime is a tough issue, with many differing opinions. Punishment and rehabilitation, one, the
other, or both, all topics of debate within society. If you were to discuss the issues with the parents of a
victim, it would be understandable that their opinions would differ greatly than those of the parents of
the offender. Many people have formed an opinion without an in depth look at the act. Others simply
do not care.
The question that needs to be answered is, does the Youth Criminal Justice Act in Canada properly
address the victims rights, the rights and needs of the young offender, and does it protect public
safety? That question is hard to answer, as some people think that the Act is a more decent and
humane way to approach young persons in trouble with the law. On the other hand others feel it offers
too much protection to those whom least deserve it the young offenders, and very little to those who
deserve it the victims. The Youth Criminal Justice Act should concentrate on making young offenders
aware that they will be held responsible and accountable for their behaviour.
Today, despite the fact that youth crime rates

  • 4. Canterbury Tales Masculinity Analysis In this paper, I will explore various discourses that shaped the understanding of male gender in medieval England and the notion of masculinity in Canterbury Tales. The medieval concept of maleness was heavily influenced by the writings of the classical period. The physiological and other medical theories that constituted this concept were not restricted to the domain of medicine. They were supported by the religious doctrines. All of these rhetorics were based on a common assumption that men are physically, morally, and intellectually superior to women. A key component that defined maleness was virility. Men were charged with the duty of taking care of women s health by regularly performing sexual intercourse so that their uterus did not dry up and she remained fertile. So important was this trait to the idea of masculinity that it was considered as a valid reason for divorce. This caused a woman s chastity to be inextricably linked with her husband s honor. Adulterous behavior on the wife s part was considered to be a sign of weakness in a man. A disobedient daughter also tainted a father s honor and diminished his masculinity. A consequence of this was that a woman s body became a site of sexual violence to avenge one s honor. The Reeve s Tale presents an instance of this, where two Cambridge undergraduates are determined to teach the dishonest miller a lesson and achieve their motive by sleeping with his daughter and wife. Another parameter on which manhood was judged was the sex of the child he engendered. In his writings, Aristotle had claimed that male semen was the source of life. This belief was reinforced by the medieval physicians. If a man begot a male heir, his masculinity was bolstered. These discourses resulted in a strict division between the two sexes. While women could transgress this code of conduct without severe repercussions, men were forbidden from exhibiting any feminine behavior. Many instances of cross dressing among women have been found both in literature and reality; however such impersonation was not permitted for men. The definition of masculinity has been broadly divided into: heroic, Christian, courtly, and intellectual. The varying definitions of masculinity often gave rise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Henri Matisse s Woman With The Hat When defining the use of art it has many meanings. Although, my definition of art is when something captures your imagination, provoking an intentional feeling in you. Woman with the Hat or La Femme au chapeau (page 725) is a painting by a French artist Henri Matisse, completed in the year of 1905. Oil on canvas painting, it s height is 80.56 cm high and 59.69 cm wide. Matisse believed that color could play a primary role in conveying meaning and focused his efforts on developing this notion. In this painting Matisse portrayed his wife, Amelie Parayre, it was first shown at the Salon d Automne, Paris. Amelie s pose for the portrait is very original, her face has a sad expression. It s obvious why Matisse named the painting Women with the Hat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amelie s face, clothes, hat, and the background consists of colorful patches and blotches that somehow produces a contrast and makes the painting look spontaneous. This painting is shocking to me because the use of non naturalistic colors and loose brushwork contributes an unfinished look. It is arranged by creating an energetic tense effect. Moreover, the elements of art in Women with the Hat are line, shape, space, color, texture, and tone. The lines of the painting are natural and soft. As well as the shapes, the lines are curved and organic. The shapes are very circular, their rounded nature focuses on the humanity and softness of a woman. The surroundings of Mitasse s painting are light, therefore the space is positive. The colors are bright and vibrant reds and greens and different types of blues. Amelie s nose shines with a yellow dot Pinks and greens are found in the background of the painting. The bright colors are kept in balance with the black outlines of Amelie and her clothing. The texture of this whole painting shows the rough brush strokes. Also, the patches of color on the background shows the different strokes and texture used which gives the painting a sense of ... How do these themes parallel to the representations of Jesus in comedy? Answer: One of the popular images of Jesus in modern times is his depiction as a Middle Eastern man, especially noticeable after the attacks on September 11, 2001. With the increasing amounts of Middle Eastern people on television, believers had to reconcile these images with their idea of Jesus from that same region. As seen in Paul Mooney s stand up routine, he joked about the fear of terrorism and suggested that Osama Bin Laden probably looked like Jesus. The devastation left in the wake of mans pursuit to satisfy his insatiable greed for energy, is nothing shy of a brutal crime scene. I feel, like many others, it has got to be stopped, and replaced with a more sensible, and appropriate, appetite for energy. The severe health, and environmental risks are abundant, yet we continue to mask this atrocity behind statistics, and well orchestrated advertising. As noted by RP Siegel of Triple Pundit Magazine (April 2012), Coal contains the most CO2 per BTU, the largest contributor to global warming. Obviously, this should be enough to convince the average, sensible individual that there is no more tolerance for continued MTM practices. English As A Global Language English as a Global Language English is a lingua franca (ELF) where the use of English language is a common language between speakers whose native languages are different (Merriam Webster Dictionary 2015). However, this does not mean that ELF interactions are speaking what is considered proper English, but whether or not they effectively communicate. This does not exclude native speakers, but rather it places emphasis on the interactions between persons of different mother tongues and cultural backgrounds. While other scholars argue that ELF neutrality is cultural free or not (House 2003), Hülmbauer (2007) views it as multicultural because it seems likely that the ELF users develop their own markers of identity (be they of a common European or international nature or more individual ones which are created online, depending on the community of practice they are emerging in). More often than not, ELF interactions stay between non native speakers where native speakers make up the minority (Paradowski 2008). Analysis of Engineering Student Motivation using the Expectancy Value Theory Eric Gauck December 5th, 2014 Colorado State University JTC 300 R27 eric.gauck@gmail.com Abstract The purpose of this research is to examine the initial preconceptions that engineering freshmen believe when they first arrive at Colorado State University. Specifically, it will examine the dichotomies between student perception and reality; hopefully revealing the perceptions and values which lead students to leave or persevere in engineering. The focus of analysis on student motivation utilizes the Expectancy Value Theory. Three aspects of the Expectancy Value Theory, expectation, utility, and perseverance, are significant factors which contribute to the completion of challenges. These factors are integrated into a questionnaire designed to evaluate the expectations of freshman engineering students. The implementation of a numerically scaled questionnaire developed from components of the Expectancy Value Theory allows the abstract concept of motivation to be quantified. The analysis of 86 freshman engineering students found that students will need to develop a value in what they are learning or a drive for future goals to persist in completing their declared degrees. The upper and middle class children would have definitely had advantage over the working class children, in terms of cognitive development, as their parents would have been well educated and able to pass on far greater knowledge. They also would have had better living conditions and quieter homes to concentrate on homework. The working class tended to have many children, shared bedrooms would have been common, which was not the ideal learning environment. • 45. The Quite American By Graham Greene In The Quite American, Graham Greene unravels a tale of three lovers at the time of major political chaos. Political chaos refers to the pre Vietnam War tension in Vietnam, during which the United States of America (USA/US) was partially and two European nations (France and Britain) were wholly exerting themselves into the political conflict between North Vietnam (Communist region) and South Vietnam (non Communist region). People s Republic of China (PRC) also exerted itself into the conflict through North Vietnam (Mamaux, et al. 127). PRC is mentioned throughout Greene s text as China but the PRC/North Vietnamese/South Vietnamese relationship is not discussed the way that the South Vietnamese/US/European (non communist) political relationship is discussed. It is crucial to note that the author discusses the non communist relationship by developing the three lovers (main characters) as a physical representation of the region that they identify with. This implies that a part of Vietnam s story is excluded. The Quite American is, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you were to discuss the issues with the parents of a victim, it would be understandable that their opinions would differ greatly than those of the parents of the offender. Many people have formed an opinion without an in depth look at the act. Others simply do not care. The question that needs to be answered is, does the Youth Criminal Justice Act in Canada properly address the victims rights, the rights and needs of the young offender, and does it protect public safety? That question is hard to answer, as some people think that the Act is a more decent and humane way to approach young persons in trouble with the law. On the other hand others feel it offers too much protection to those whom least deserve it the young offenders, and very little to those who deserve it the victims. The Youth Criminal Justice Act should concentrate on making young offenders aware that they will be held responsible and accountable for their behaviour. Today, despite the fact that youth crime rates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
