The Use Of Stereotypes In The 1967 Film Guess Who s Coming...
In the 1967 film, Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, the main characters bring home controversy when
they surprise their parents and friends with the news of their soon to be interracial marriage. Each
character brings a unique perspectives to the film, which in turn brings to light several different issues.
Throughout the film, there are many different ways in which communication is ineffective and could
have been improved. First, this paper will discuss examples of stereotypes presented in the film. Next,
it will explain complications in listening styles and how it affects communication between characters.
Finally, this paper will analyze process of conflict and how the prior points influence the process.
According to the textbook, stereotyping is attributing a set of qualities to a person because of his or
her membership to some category (Beebe, Beebe, Redmond, 2011, 74). This can be seen throughout
the beginning of the film when John and Joey first interact with Mrs. Drayton and again with Mr.
Drayton. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both cases, the accusers took a small amount of information as if they were a highly representative
factor. As a result, Mr. Drayton drew prejudicial conclusions about John and his capabilities. As for
Tillie, she overgeneralized and drew inaccurate conclusions about John and his intentions with Joey.
Although these are two specific examples of stereotyping in the film, they are not the only instances.
However, they are not pertinent to the purposes of this paper and will not be listed. Each of these
instances of stereotyping cut off the chance of successful communication by letting the preconceived
notions keep them from being open minded towards John. Towards the end of the movie, John is
talking to his father and says, You think of yourself as a colored man, but I just think of myself as a
man . This statement does a great job of exemplifying the difference in stereotyping and not

Essay On Radiotherapy And Chemotherapy
Cancer can be defined as an uncontrollable division of cells in the body, and untreated cancer can lead
to serious illness, tumors and death. Cancer related to head and neck is the most difficult to treat
because it has a direct impact on the central nervous system. Radiotherapy is used to treat head and
neck cancer, and the treatment can be combined with chemotherapy. Radiotherapy or radiation therapy
uses radiation while chemotherapy is the treatment that uses chemical agents to destroy the cancer
cells. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy have been associated with effects like seizures, suppression of
cell growth and cognitive impairment (Dietrich et al., 2006). The brain scans of the patients after
receiving a few years of treatment show a decline in white matter in the brain. (Bharatha et al., 2012)
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The underlying cause for the associated effects has been poorly understood. Patients must know about
the affects of radiation therapy and chemotherapy on the central nervous system before undergoing the
procedure. The article discusses affects of cancer treatments on the cognitive development through
means of neuropsychologic test performed on different age groups of children. The affects of
chemotherapeutic agents used in chemotherapy will also be discussed. The purpose of the research is
to examine whether radiotherapy and chemotherapy actually lead to its associated effects.
Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are two major procedures used to treat cancer, but the success rates
are as low as 2.1% (Siegel et al., 2015). The low success rate and high potential risk of cancer
therapies are a major failure in the health

Flannery O Connor s Good Country People
Scott Hamilton once said, The only disability in life is having a bad attitude. While some may find the
good out of every situation, others engulf themselves in the negative and cause their self misery. In the
short story Good Country People by Flannery O Connor, one is introduced to the character by the
name of Hulga, known as Joy by her mother. Hulga is 32 years old and lives in her mother s home due
to her artificial leg and weakened heart. In this short story, Hulga s uncouth personality is revealed
through her encounters with individuals she comes across, and her opinions on other characters in the
story. Through analyzation, one can see that Hulga is intolerant, miserable, and insecure. Intolerance is

This occurs on a date with a man by the name of Manley Pointer, a door to door bible salesman who
happens to stop by Mrs. Hopewell s residence. Although Hulga s first impression of Pointer is
mundane, she grows fond of him after they begin spending time with one another. However, on a date
in a hay loft, Pointer attempts to persuade Hulga into showing him her wooden leg, stating that doing
so will prove her love to him. Hulga, extremely uncomfortable, refuses to do this, but gives in after
Pointer compliments her, saying it s what makes you different. You ain t like anybody else, (O Connor
14). This wooden leg has been a part of Hulga s life since childhood, but yet is something that she has
always hidden from other individuals. If Hulga ever feels any sort of security with herself, it is only
when she speaks about philosophy. Consequently, her insecurities are more evident than her
confidence, and are portrayed very clearly through her personality, the way she hides her leg, and the

Lindsay Case
Lindsay is asking to inspect financial documents for two separate legal entities, and she has differing
roles in both of the companies. Lindsay s role in the LLC is a co partner role. Thus, she could inspect
the financial documents of LLC; however, she has dissociated. Dissociation occurs when a partner
ceases to be associated with the carrying on of the partnership business and terminates his or her
actual authority to act for the partnership and to participate in running the business (259). In 2007,
Lindsay leaves the company, which means she has voluntarily withdrawn and completely abandoned

Marketing Social Of Social Marketing
How is social marketing different
The initial formal definition depicts social marketing as ...calculated to influence the acceptability of
social ideas and involving considerations of product planning, pricing, communication, distribution
and marketing research (Kotler and Zaltman, 1971, p. 5 in Andreason 1994, p. 109). In Marketing
Social Marketing in the Social Change Marketplace Andreasen argues that the given definition does
not outline the essence social behavioural change. In his words, the acceptance of an idea alone does
not guarantee the success of influencing behaviour. The latest interpretation of The International
Social Marketing Association solves that problem by stating the outcome explicitly. (2013).

For instance, in Scotland drinking alcohol is forbidden on public places, buying drinks is overly
expensive and restricted to specific hours. In this regard, while the technological approach consists of
using modern means for reducing the need or the consequences of drinking (e.g. remote access to
treatment, non
alcoholic beer), the economical solution is to raise the raise the private cost of drinking
alcohol.
On the other hand, social marketing recognises that we are self serving beings and, therefore, the
approach to a problem should be consumer centred. To put it more simply, the best way for me to
achieve what I want is to assure you that it is in your best interest (Marketing Theory, p. 310, 2003).
As a result, the question asked by marketers is shifted from what is wrong with these people, why won
t they understand? to what is wrong with us. What don t we understand about our target audience? ( A
Synopsis of Social Marketing , 1999).
The more recent change in thinking was achieved by applying the social exchange theory (Housten
and Gassenheimer, 1987) to social marketing. The conclusion of Hastings and Saren (2003) is that
change in social behaviour requires beneficial output in return. The resulting problem is that in social
marketing the benefit is not always apparent or at least not immediately. For

Essay on The Impact of Michael Jordan
December 21, 1891 The birth of basketball. It has been changed from simply shooting a soccer ball
into a peach basket to dunking a seven pound, leather ball into an iron rim. In the early years of the
game, basketball was not as popular as other sports. In the 1985 NBA draft all this would change with
the emergence of a 6 6 basketball phenomenon from Wilmington, North Carolina. Although going
third in the draft, he recreated the game and is known as the best player to ever touch a basketball; he

That s $40 a meal, $80 for both dates, plus $10 in gas for both dates, $20 for a movie for the first date,
$35 $50 for the second date at the mall, the beach, an amusement park... you re looking at $150, at the

a little bit of your money and the fact that you have to pay often wards off scammers who just want to
take your money, and fake profiles. So, What Have We Learned? If you take nothing else away from

Violence And Violence In Anthony Burgess s A Clockwork Orange
Similarly, the character of Alex McDowell and his actions are presented with methods comparable to
that of Bonnie and Clyde. Stanley Kubrick stresses the violence in A Clockwork Orange as a way to
show the full extent of his harmful maniacal ways. Narration alone can only tell us so much about his
personality and isn t able to comprehensively encompass the significance of the violence attributed to
Alex. It isn t until we see the crimes being committed in vivid detail that we are able to recognize the
true nature of Alex s moral extent. This illustrates him as the character he is meant to be as per the
novella written by Anthony Burgess. We learn through wide angle shots of the moments leading up to
the raping of a helpless woman, that Alex is entirely comfortable with the sadistic action and even
finds it amusing. Upward facing camera angles that specifically place his face as the focal point are
used during this scene and many others like it to enunciate his sinister appearance. They are used to
show that as a person, Alex enjoys these all to pernicious behaviors. The excessive realness of the
scenes only supports our understanding of his lack of humanity. Alex s aggressiveness is magnified by
the way he senselessly beats the old man under the bridge and the husband of the raped woman.
Incorporating an undisturbed shot of him doing so allows it make a greater impact on the audience s
perception of the character. Just as in Bonnie and Clyde, violence is shown with no

Sleepy Hollow
Folk Tale Characteristics in the Legend of Sleepy Hollow
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is one of the most well known stories in American literature, and with
good reason. Throughout his story, Washington Irving uses many stylistic ideas to create a
fantastically detailed and descriptive romantic folk tale.
Irving begins The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with a vivid description of the setting of his story.
Beginning with the Dutch history of the area, he goes on to describe the town as one of the quietest
places in the whole world , with a tranquil brook running through it and the sweet sounds of chirping
birds all around (1). Irving delves into the town s history, citing Indian legends which say that ... Show

The sky is depicted as being clear and serene , and the surrounding trees wore that rich golden livery
which we always associate with the idea of abundance (9). Another half of a paragraph is devoted to
describing the sober and brilliant colors of the grees, the wild ducks flying above, the chattering noises
of the squirrel, and the cry of the quail. The following paragraph is entirely dedicated to noticing all
the local breeds of birds, such as the cockrobin, blackbirds, golden winged woodpecker, cedar bird,
and blue jay. The fruits and vegetables are given special notice as well, and is described as vast, rich,
ample, and holding out the promise of cakes and hasty pudding (10). This description of nature is a
major traditional characteristic of the romantic genre, because it contributes to the fascination with
nature, describing it not only as being beautiful, but also as an abundant resource.
Hearsay is another prominant characteristic of a romantic folk tale. Folk tales are traditionally passed
down orally, and are often subject to exaggerations or outright lies in order to enhance their
entertainment appeal. This stylistic trait is found in many details throughout Irving s story. Right from
the begining of his tale, the narrator lets his audience know that there are many theories regarding the
curse of the Sleepy Hollow land, and no

Lactic Acid Energy System
How much should you rest between sets? In my free weight training program for body building I will
show you how long to rest and why.
Believe it or not, the amount of time that you rest between sets has an effect on your training results.
When you are resting less than two minutes between your sets, you are using the lactic acid energy
system. This is a medium duration energy source and is the primary energy source used in most body
building workouts. If you rest longer than 3 minutes between sets, you are using more of the ATP PC
energy system. This is the most powerful energy system for short bursts of exercise. There is one more
energy system called the Aerobic Energy System. Generally, this energy system is used for long
duration, low ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The body does not switch from the Lactic Acid Energy System to the ATP PC system at exactly 2
minutes rest between sets. For some people it will be sooner and for some it will be later. Either way,
it is not a sudden change, but rather a gradual changing of the guard with the Aerobic Energy System
helping to bridge the gap between the two.
So what is the best way to manipulate these energy systems for maximum muscle growth? The answer
depends partly on your weight lifting plan, but generally speaking, bodybuilders should spend most of
their training time using the Lactic Acid Energy System. A significant amount of time should be spent
doing heavy weight training with 3 or 4 minutes rest to increase your strength, and the rest of the time
(maybe 70 percent of your training) should be done with rest periods of 90 to 150 seconds rest
between sets.
By training like this, you can build your strength levels during the heavy training with longer rest
periods, and then use that new strength to lift more weight for more reps when you train using the
Lactic Acid Energy System. This will maximize the benefits of each energy system and keep your
body from adapting, which will result in amazing muscle

Essay on Breast Feeding is Best

Breast is Best If one chooses to have a child, shouldn t he or she be obligated to do what is best for
that child? There are many important choices to make for that child, and some may be more difficult
than others. Hospital or home birth? Pampers or Huggies? Crib or family bed? But when it comes to
feeding, the choice is clear. Breast feeding is the best choice that mothers can make for themselves and
their child. Not everyone agrees that breast feeding is the best choice. Some argue that bottle feeding
is democratic and gives other members of the family a chance to feed the baby. I agree that family
members need a chance to experience the thrill of nourishing the new life, but giving the child a bottle

This concern is unnecessary because the hind milk, the milk that a baby gets at the end of a nursing
session, is higher in calories than that at the beginning, and tends to make a baby feel full (Eisenberg,
Murkoff, and Hathaway 4). Some women choose not to breast feed because they have heard the
common myth that breast feeding causes jaundice, or excess bilirubin in the skin that causes a baby to
look yellow (Lim 70). This belief is unfounded. Breast feeding is actually the best thing that you could
do for a jaundice baby because colostrum, the rich fluid that comes in before your milk, actually acts
as a laxative to help the baby pass meconium, a baby s first bowel movement, which is high in
bilirubin (Lim 70). There are many reasons to breast feed, but the most important reasons have to do
with the health of you and your child. Did you know that breast feeding is possibly linked to reducing
the risk of breast cancer that occurs before menopause (Eisenberg, Murkoff, and Hathaway 5) ?
Nursing also helps a women recover after child birth. It is part of a natural cycle and will help your
uterus go back to pre pregnancy size. Besides helping you recover from child birth, breast feeding
may keep you from getting pregnant again right away. Most nursing mothers do not ovulate or
menstruate until their babies begin to take significant supplementation, such as formula or solid foods

With the influence of mannerism in Renaissance , the composition of the figures intertwine and create
not just complex composition but a dynamic three dimensional space. Both of the child have its left
leg stepping forward, however, because of the diagonal composition in the Dolci painting and the
depth expressed by the diagonal accent, it enhances the three dimensional effect. Dolci s composition
is also more unified meaning the subjects form a dynamic composition relationship. There is more
variation of postures in the painting and their limbs, accessories are more intertwined. The scene
seems more like a happening than a positioned, still portrait. Romano s composition of the space seem
to be more layer based and there are less spatial relationships between the figures. Dolci also
introduced a new technique by cropping the image of the subjects with a slight highlighted line. This
new technique is unique in a way that it restraint the subject in another area than the frame. This
enhances the three dimensional effect evermore, giving the illusion as if the viewer would peek into
the space inside of the painting, instead of looking directly at the image and associating it with areas
outside of the painting such as a frame which naturally limits space and create a barrier between the
viewer and the subjects in painting

Colonists fought against this policy. For example, a group of people planned to intimidate Andrew

What goes around comes around, that s what people say. So all the pain you caused me will come

both the Grimm version and the Disney version of Cinderella, however the Grimm version definitely
exemplifies the theme more effectively than the Disney version does. The Grimm version and the
Disney version of Cinderella both include punishment to the stepsisters for how they treated

punishment. Whereas the Grimm version had a physical punishment. The only punishment for the

now they have to see their step sister and maid who was much too dirty to be seen (Grimm) get what
they wanted. They are probably also pretty angry and upset about what happened. It is noticeable in
the film that they are all furious that Cinderella got to become the princess. The Disney version made
this the only punishment in the story because the punishment in the Grimm version was too gory. The
Disney movie is directed towards children so they could not make it too gory, but they also had to
teach the lesson. This version did a good job exemplifying the theme, however the punishment in the
Grimm version is just more effective, as noted before. In the Grimm version, there is also extra
punishment for the stepmother as well. The stepmother now has to tend to her daughters and provide
special care for them now because they cannot walk. She talked her daughters into cutting parts of
their feet off because When you are queen you will no longer have to go on foot (Grimm.) Therefore,

Nanofiber Research Paper
Frequency dependence of the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of carbon
fiber
(CF) epoxy composite laminates have been investigated on the basis of attenuation due to reflection
and absorption measurements in the range of X band (8.2 12.4 GHz) and Kuband
(12.4 18 GHz). The shielding by absorption is observed to be the dominant mechanism. The use of
nylon 66 nanofiber interleaving for increasing the shielding effectiveness of multilayered quasi
isotropic composite laminates has been investigated. Further enhancement of EMI SE is achieved by γ
irradiation of the composites. The results have highlighted the usefulness of the carbon fiber
composites for shielding in the range of microwave frequencies.

[2] and the ease of processing and manufacturing. A polymer matrix is electrically insulating and does
not contribute to EM shielding on its own. However, polymer composites with conductive fillers are
influenced by the interconnectivity of the conducting fillers within the polymer matrix. A conducting
polymer has many advantages like reduced weight, lower density, flexibility of control of conductivity
and lower manufacturing costs
[3], [4]. In recent years, polymer based carbon filled composites consisting of a sandwich of a
conductive polymer between a conductor and microwave absorber have been used in wideband
microwave shielding [5]. The most frequently used
EM absorbers consist of materials with high dielectric losses and magnetic loss materials. These
materials include carbon filament [6], carbon fiber (CF) [7], carbon nanotubes [8], [9], carbon black

Microwave shielding of conducting polymer composites depends on the dielectric and magnetic
properties of the materials used. In these materials, to achieve the benchmark

Canterbury Tales And Canterbury Tales Comparison
There are many literary elements to compare and contrast and different ways to do so. Chaucer s The
Wife of Bath s Tale from the Canterbury Tales and Beowulf (author unknown) have many things that
compare and contrast them. These two stories greatly compare. The Canterbury Tales and Beowulf
compare in many things, including imagery. There are many types of imagery seen throughout these
two poems, including visual imagery, sense imagery, and internal emotion imagery. In the story of The
Canterbury Tales: The Wife of Bath s Tale , the main character is a young knight who finds himself
raping a maiden who he just so happened to see near a river that day. He was going to be severely
punished for doing so. Already, this knight is seen as a bad and immature one. A knight s job during
this time period was to protect women and be chivalrous towards them, but he most definitely did not
show that trait throughout this story. His punishment was to find the answer to the queen s question
and if he couldn t he would be beheaded. Though he finds his answer, his attitude hardly changes. On
the night of his wedding, he tells his fiancé, the hag, that he doesn t want to marry her because she was
ugly and old, and he didn t want her.
Now ther ye saye that I am foul and old:
Thanne drede you nought to been a cokewold,
For filthe and elde, also mote I thee,
Been grete wardeins upon chastitee. (The Wife of Bath s Tale , lines 1219 1222)

Career Planning Process Analysis
1. Introduction
Deliberate goalsetting and planning can be helpful to ensure a career which is both successful and
fulfilling. Career planning is the process of evaluating your interests, preferences, skills and
objectives, all to ensure that your work is in good agreement with personal values and strengths.
Reflecting on a viable career plan is particularly important for U of A Engineering graduates as the
economy in Alberta has seen heavy turmoil in recent years, resulting in the loss of job opportunities.
As a result, setting realistic goals and strategic planning is essential to navigate the rough economic
landscape.

Additional information gathered from my personal experiences will be outlined here.
In addition to assessing my current state through skills assessments, such as ALIS, strength based
assessments have been shown to be more useful for career development. One example is
StrengthsQuest (Gallup, 2016) which is a program that aims to help students to discover and take
advantage of their personal strengths. StrengthsQuest is being used across campuses and organizations
to develop strength maps for project teams and working groups. Strength maps help to identify
strengths and weaknesses within a group plan and accordingly, plan for success.
When researching companies and average salaries, I often turn towards Glassdoor ( Glassdoor, 2016)
as a source for company reviews, salaries and company interview practises. The data curated on
Glassdoor is maintained by current or former company employees which further reinforces the

Nutrition Reflection
Nutrition, was the topic for Unit 2 and I must admit, it was pretty interesting. I thought that this unit
was going to be more of taking notes, but no it was more of learning how to eat healthier, how having
a bad habit of eating bad foods too much can be belligerent to our own lives. Exercising is a very
important thing to do, at least 30 minutes 1 hour can help improve our personal health. Also I learned
that being overweight, or obese can be a cause of many deaths around the world, and especially today,
since we like bigger stuff, we want the bigger stuff. I also learned that since not only the U.S is the one
with health problems, their is more countries with this problem, and we have to watch what we eat on
a daily basis, since we can get diabetes, cholesterol, or any type of harmful diseases. I also learned
how to work better with a group of people, and having to be assigned a job within the group, I know
that working in a group will take commitment, and working with others will make you make time to
work with your group, so everything can go well once you go present. I was happy to know that my
group would do their work, and that we knew what to say when the time came to present.
During this Unit 2 of Nutrition, I know how to be vigilant in what I eat on the daily basis, even now. I
think twice when I m going to eat, or when I m at a restaurant, I have to see what I m going to order,
and how much I m going to order. Since we also talked about the sugary drinks, I m

The astronauts will be able to float from section to section without requiring their spacesuit. Although

The most efficient way to reduce the loss of muscle, from lack of gravity, is to require daily exercise

My Self Realisation
The block week of the module introduction to creative thinking was honestly one of the best weeks I
have experienced thus far in college. I feel like I learnt more real world life skills in one week than I
have in the last three years of college. Before commencing the week, I was quite apprehensive as to
what it would offer and I wondered what we were going to fill all the time with. However, I quickly
realised with the challenges Dan and his team had lined up for us, too much time was never going to
be an issue, and in fact the problem was nearly always the opposite. When you work in a group and
really open your mind to come up with some great innovative ideas they require a lot of time
processing. I surprisingly found that generating ideas was not a problem for me, the issue was being
decisive when trying to cut down and combine ideas into one really good end product. I quickly learnt
that even what appears to be any easy task requires a substantial amount of time. Therefore, planning
and time management, which I am not very good at, were key factors in every challenge assigned. For
example, a one and half minute long video took us nearly 4 hours to make. I realised throughout the
week, that coming up with and implementing creative ideas is a time consuming process but when you
put your mind to it and work hard, you can achieve a lot in just one day. At times I recognised that my
completer finisher team role hindered this, because I was always trying to perfect the end

Japan Vs England
The Middle Ages, also known as the medieval period lasted from the 500 to the 1500 CE for England.
But for Japan, it lasted from 1185 until 1868 CE. Even though Japan and England are on the opposite
side of the world, this two countries both experienced medieval period with few similarities and

China Sea, Sea of Japan and Pacific Ocean. The neighbours of this Country are China and Korea.

Improving Business Writing
Why is writing important in business? Writing is essential in any form of business. We use writing in
all types of communication such as: email, facsimile, letter writing, etc. Writing skills are important to
the business professional because it prepares the workplace for well written business communications.
The three topics I will cover can serve as an outline for improving writing skills in businesses. The
topics are principles of business writing, how to write an effective business letter, and how to improve
business writing within the company. These topics will aid in examining and improving our company
s employees writing skills.
First, there are four principles of writing: Empathy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following the Attention Line is the Body. The body contains detailed information about the topic. The
body includes the introductory paragraph, one or more body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.
Finally, there is the closing. The closing is usually ended with a complementary closing and signature.
A list of examples include: Sincerely, Cordially, Best regards, and Yours very truly. Remember to
capitalize the first word in the complimentary closing and end it with a comma. After the closing,
there is a copy line. When the copy line is used, other people know who will be receiving a copy. The
copy line usually includes a symbol: c: for copy, pc: for photocopy, and bc: blind copy (used only to
limit readers of other copies). The names of the recipients should follow these symbols listed in
organizational rank (Writing@CSU: Writing Guide, 2004, p. 1). All of the components discussed
above are effective ways to write an effective business letter. An effective business letter speaks to a
specific reader. Therefore, the right type of business letter must reach the reader. The most common
types of business letters are: 1) Acknowledgement Letters, 2) Adjustment Letters, 3) Complaint
Letters, 4) Inquiry Letters, 5) Order Letters, and Response Letters. (Writing@CSU: Writing Guide,
2004 p. 1). These type letters helps guide the reader to understanding what the writer intended.

In a photograph of a 1967 Vietnam War protest in New York, a large crowd was pictured standing
united as one despite the differences of the people themselves (Source B). This is an example of
pathos, because their unity emphasizes that the war was a human issue rather than one pertaining to a
certain segment of society, or even of nationality. The diversity of the protesters also reflects an
unfortunate layer of irony to the government s decision to join the Vietnam War, as most Americans
arrived in the country because of immigration, yet America s interjection into the war and subsequent
use of the chemical Agent Orange caused the displacement of many Vietnamese civilians. Another
feature of note in the image is a young boy, holding a sign declaring that children [were] not born to
burn in large black letters (Source B). The correlation between the speaker and the message is an
unmistakable example of pathos, meant to evoke guilt in the government officials who had chosen to
go to war and those watching from their television sets at home. Indeed, in what was later found to be
a war crime, the napalm strikes and use of chemical agents like Agent Orange gravely injured
hundreds of thousands of innocent Vietnamese civilians, yet those who dared to protest it were seen as
favoring Communism and were often subject to mass arrest as a form of censorship. Just as the
Vietnam War protesters spoke out about the injustices they saw in their society, it is imperative that
American citizens retain their freedom of speech so that public censorship does not occur when
addressing future issues; however, arrests and violence against protesters is still common, indicating
that interference with freedom of speech is still a problem

Technology And The Medical Industry
Abstract
Stethoscopes have been around for nearly more than 200 years. From the early modern stethoscopes
made of brass and wood, to common acoustic stethoscopes doctors use these days. Now,
digital/electronic stethoscopes have been invented in which they are advanced and has more uses than
acoustic stethoscopes. However they are much more costly than other stethoscopes and also tend to be
at a heavier weight. These digital stethoscopes provide detailed information and have many functions
to for the doctors to better analyse patients.
1. Introduction
What will the world be like if there is technology? It is definitely difficult to picture the world without
the use of technology in the daily lives of human beings. Throughout the years, technology has
advanced rapidly. For the medical industry, according to research done by EvaluatePharma ® , the
medical technology market is forecasted to reach about $440 Billion by 2018, increasing at a rate of
about 4.4% each year from 2011 (MEDTECH MARKET TO ACHIEVE GLOBAL SALES OF $440
BILLION BY 2018, 2012). An example of an equipment that has advanced and improved is the
stethoscope. The stethoscope is an equipment that is highly associated with doctors whereby almost all
doctors use them to analyse patients. The purpose of this report is to educate the public of the new and
advanced digital stethoscope that we have today. This paper covers the history and functions of

Disadvantages Of Mobile Technology
Mobile technology gives people the power to build community and bring the world closer together, as
we can connect our loved ones far and near. Regardless of where one resides, communication and
strong community can be possible with the help of mobile technology. When I came to the United
States back in 2012, I was homesick. There was not a lot that I could do to connect with my friends
and relatives back home, other than send them texts or call them. Now, with more advanced
technology that I am exposed to, I can video call on Facebook Messenger. I have been video calling
my friends and relatives back home since 2013. Although we are living different lives, with the help of
the Facebook Messenger, we are able to share our experience with one another. I am used to this
feature, and I cannot imagine myself losing touch with my friends and relatives back home, as I learn
from their experiences just as I tell them about mine. The reason I have not gone back home since
2012, is because of Facebook s video calling feature. I did not feel a need to go see my friends and
relatives because I was able to see them through video calling. When I video call, I am usually with
my friends. That way I am able to connect my Indian friends with my American friends and form
community between the two. With the help of mobile technology, we are able to build community
across a broader area. When some crisis happens, the public is made aware of it through social media.
Due to this awareness, we

A Modest Inaccuracy
Mathematics is a logical and precise subject. Without precision in math everything is imprecise. A
modest inaccuracy can produce a catastrophe. For example, if a doctor fails to calculate the correct
amount of medicine to give a patient, it could result in a serious complication, such as death. A further
example is the logic and precision it takes to construct a building. If there is one minor miscalculation
the whole building could collapse, causing mass destruction. As specified above, you have to be very
cautious in math, especially when designing a building. One tangible example would be the
Sampoong Department Store collapse in South Korea. On June 29 1995, the 5 level department store
collapsed, injuring 937 people and killing 502.

Scurvy Is Not A Disease
Scurvy is not a disease that is not talked about often. Before the twenty first century, scurvy was
prevalent in nearly every part of the world. With today s amazing advances in medicine, scurvy is not
generally a disease that most people in America or other civilized countries need to worry about.
While it is rare, scurvy does occur and it is incredibly treatable. The symptoms are reversible and
treatment is easy with the right amount of vitamin C added to the diet to offset what has been missing.
Scurvy is a disease that has been around since ancient times. Originally, there were many different
ideas about what caused scurvy. Genetics, toxins, the environment, and infections were among many
of the explanations for scurvy. Of all the people afflicted with scurvy, the most numerous were sailors.
Surgeons and doctors out at sea with the sailors were among the first to be able to describe the disease
in clinical detail and find a treatment that was effective in clearing up scurvy. Sir James Lind, a
surgeon for the British Navy, has been credited with finding an easy way to treat scurvy; with lemons
and oranges. While scurvy was extremely common while out at sea, cases still came about on land as
well. The people most effected by scurvy on land were civil war soldiers, gold rushers in California,
and Irish and English populations during the Great Potato Famine. Scientists discovered an
antiscorbutic factor that citrus fruits and potatoes carried in 1931. This factor was

Evolution Was Introduced By Charles Darwin
The idea of evolution was introduced by Charles Darwin, and explains how animals change over time.
The theory states that every organism on the Earth originated from a common ancestor and then,
through the process of natural selection, how those animals branched off to become different
organisms. Scholars use this theory to explain how animals that live on Earth change over time.
However, scientists find it difficult to use this theory to explain some events that occurred in the
geologic time period, such as the Cambrian Explosion. The Cambrian explosion was a macro
evolutionary event that happened during the late Ediacaran and early Cambrian period. It introduced a
number of phyla on the Earth, and significantly affected the animal ... Show more content on

When a mass extinction takes place, the dominant species of that time get removed, enabling other
organisms to use the resources they once did. This means that the extinction of the Ediacaran animals
could have left a pathway for the newly made Cambrian species. Unfortunately, there are problems
that arise when examining this theory. The extinction of the Ediacaran period does not explain the
polyphyletic nature or the lengthy duration of the Cambrian Explosion (Xingliang Zhang, 2014).
Another theory scholars believe could have led to the rapid appearance of polyphyletic organisms in
the Cambrian could have occurred from the mineral and salinity content of the water. The salt
concentration that is present in the water controls and limits the amount of biologic activity, since the
saltier an area is, the fewer animals can live there. Less animals are able to survive in places that have
high salt concentration due to the process of osmosis, which dehydrates the animals making them
unable to survive in those environments. From looking at ocean salinity modeling, which was
developed by observing maximum and minima values of present day evaporates, scholars have
concluded that there was a significant salinity decline from the Neoproterozoic to the Cambrian. The
decline in salinity seen in this time period, may have had an

Analysis of William Faulkner s Noble Prize of Literature Acceptance Speech William Faulkner was an
often misunderstood writer of many novels and short stories. ( William Faulkner s Nobel Prize
Acceptance Speech ) It was not until 1949 and after his death when he was given the Nobel Prize in
Literature that people began to acknowledge him and his works. ( William Faulkner ) In his Nobel
Prize of Literature acceptance speech, at the city hall in Stockholm on December 10, 1950, Faulkner
uses a powerful tone and effective rhetorical devices to convey his purpose. In his Nobel Prize of
Literature acceptance speech, William Faulkner utilizes rhetorical devices such as ... Show more

This device helps him convey that people need to start writing about emotional conflicts with
themselves because that alone can make good writing. He also uses a metaphor to compare the writing
of something meaningful and important to something not when he states, He writes not of the heart
but of the glands . This helps the effectiveness by comparing something major and meaningful such as
the heart to something less meaningful and pity as a gland. These were effective by helping Faulkner
relate to everyday situations and thing we are familiar in life therefore aiding him in connecting with
his audience.
Faulkner uses syntactical strategies throughout his speech to assist him in communicating his message
to his audience. In the third paragraph he emphasizes a syntax device known as anaphora, when
stating, He must learn them again... He much teach himself... He writes not of love...He writes not of
the heart... .The anaphora helps Faulkner be effective in his argument by the repetition of words to
help him get his view of things across to the audience. To also succor his effectiveness he uses
polysyndeton, which is used to draw the audience s attention therefore adding the effect of persistence
and intensity to help keep his audiences attention, making his speech effective. An example of
polysyndeton is when he declares love and honor and pity and pride and compassion and sacrifice
This quote helps signify that authors need to write from their soul and

  • 2. The Use Of Stereotypes In The 1967 Film Guess Who s Coming... In the 1967 film, Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, the main characters bring home controversy when they surprise their parents and friends with the news of their soon to be interracial marriage. Each character brings a unique perspectives to the film, which in turn brings to light several different issues. Throughout the film, there are many different ways in which communication is ineffective and could have been improved. First, this paper will discuss examples of stereotypes presented in the film. Next, it will explain complications in listening styles and how it affects communication between characters. Finally, this paper will analyze process of conflict and how the prior points influence the process. According to the textbook, stereotyping is attributing a set of qualities to a person because of his or her membership to some category (Beebe, Beebe, Redmond, 2011, 74). This can be seen throughout the beginning of the film when John and Joey first interact with Mrs. Drayton and again with Mr. Drayton. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both cases, the accusers took a small amount of information as if they were a highly representative factor. As a result, Mr. Drayton drew prejudicial conclusions about John and his capabilities. As for Tillie, she overgeneralized and drew inaccurate conclusions about John and his intentions with Joey. Although these are two specific examples of stereotyping in the film, they are not the only instances. However, they are not pertinent to the purposes of this paper and will not be listed. Each of these instances of stereotyping cut off the chance of successful communication by letting the preconceived notions keep them from being open minded towards John. Towards the end of the movie, John is talking to his father and says, You think of yourself as a colored man, but I just think of myself as a man . This statement does a great job of exemplifying the difference in stereotyping and not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Radiotherapy is used to treat head and neck cancer, and the treatment can be combined with chemotherapy. Radiotherapy or radiation therapy uses radiation while chemotherapy is the treatment that uses chemical agents to destroy the cancer cells. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy have been associated with effects like seizures, suppression of cell growth and cognitive impairment (Dietrich et al., 2006). The affects of chemotherapeutic agents used in chemotherapy will also be discussed. As a result, the question asked by marketers is shifted from what is wrong with these people, why won t they understand? to what is wrong with us. What don t we understand about our target audience? ( A Synopsis of Social Marketing , 1999). The more recent change in thinking was achieved by applying the social exchange theory (Housten and Gassenheimer, 1987) to social marketing. • 9. Violence And Violence In Anthony Burgess s A Clockwork Orange Similarly, the character of Alex McDowell and his actions are presented with methods comparable to that of Bonnie and Clyde. Stanley Kubrick stresses the violence in A Clockwork Orange as a way to show the full extent of his harmful maniacal ways. Narration alone can only tell us so much about his personality and isn t able to comprehensively encompass the significance of the violence attributed to Alex. It isn t until we see the crimes being committed in vivid detail that we are able to recognize the true nature of Alex s moral extent. This illustrates him as the character he is meant to be as per the novella written by Anthony Burgess. We learn through wide angle shots of the moments leading up to the raping of a helpless woman, that Alex is entirely comfortable with the sadistic action and even finds it amusing. Upward facing camera angles that specifically place his face as the focal point are used during this scene and many others like it to enunciate his sinister appearance. They are used to show that as a person, Alex enjoys these all to pernicious behaviors. The excessive realness of the scenes only supports our understanding of his lack of humanity. Alex s aggressiveness is magnified by the way he senselessly beats the old man under the bridge and the husband of the raped woman. Incorporating an undisturbed shot of him doing so allows it make a greater impact on the audience s perception of the character. Just as in Bonnie and Clyde, violence is shown with no ... Throughout his story, Washington Irving uses many stylistic ideas to create a fantastically detailed and descriptive romantic folk tale. Irving begins The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with a vivid description of the setting of his story. Beginning with the Dutch history of the area, he goes on to describe the town as one of the quietest places in the whole world , with a tranquil brook running through it and the sweet sounds of chirping birds all around (1). Another half of a paragraph is devoted to describing the sober and brilliant colors of the grees, the wild ducks flying above, the chattering noises of the squirrel, and the cry of the quail. The following paragraph is entirely dedicated to noticing all the local breeds of birds, such as the cockrobin, blackbirds, golden winged woodpecker, cedar bird, and blue jay. The fruits and vegetables are given special notice as well, and is described as vast, rich, ample, and holding out the promise of cakes and hasty pudding (10). This description of nature is a major traditional characteristic of the romantic genre, because it contributes to the fascination with nature, describing it not only as being beautiful, but also as an abundant resource. Hearsay is another prominant characteristic of a romantic folk tale. Folk tales are traditionally passed down orally, and are often subject to exaggerations or outright lies in order to enhance their entertainment appeal. This stylistic trait is found in many details throughout Irving s story. Right from the begining of his tale, the narrator lets his audience know that there are many theories regarding the curse of the Sleepy Hollow land, and no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Lactic Acid Energy System How much should you rest between sets? In my free weight training program for body building I will show you how long to rest and why. Believe it or not, the amount of time that you rest between sets has an effect on your training results. When you are resting less than two minutes between your sets, you are using the lactic acid energy system. This is a medium duration energy source and is the primary energy source used in most body building workouts. If you rest longer than 3 minutes between sets, you are using more of the ATP PC energy system. This is the most powerful energy system for short bursts of exercise. There is one more energy system called the Aerobic Energy System. Generally, this energy system is used for long duration, low ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The body does not switch from the Lactic Acid Energy System to the ATP PC system at exactly 2 minutes rest between sets. For some people it will be sooner and for some it will be later. Either way, it is not a sudden change, but rather a gradual changing of the guard with the Aerobic Energy System helping to bridge the gap between the two. So what is the best way to manipulate these energy systems for maximum muscle growth? The answer depends partly on your weight lifting plan, but generally speaking, bodybuilders should spend most of their training time using the Lactic Acid Energy System. A significant amount of time should be spent doing heavy weight training with 3 or 4 minutes rest to increase your strength, and the rest of the time (maybe 70 percent of your training) should be done with rest periods of 90 to 150 seconds rest between sets. By training like this, you can build your strength levels during the heavy training with longer rest periods, and then use that new strength to lift more weight for more reps when you train using the Lactic Acid Energy System. This will maximize the benefits of each energy system and keep your body from adapting, which will result in amazing muscle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many important choices to make for that child, and some may be more difficult than others. Hospital or home birth? Pampers or Huggies? Crib or family bed? But when it comes to feeding, the choice is clear. Breast feeding is the best choice that mothers can make for themselves and their child. Not everyone agrees that breast feeding is the best choice. This concern is unnecessary because the hind milk, the milk that a baby gets at the end of a nursing session, is higher in calories than that at the beginning, and tends to make a baby feel full (Eisenberg, Murkoff, and Hathaway 4). Some women choose not to breast feed because they have heard the common myth that breast feeding causes jaundice, or excess bilirubin in the skin that causes a baby to look yellow (Lim 70). This belief is unfounded. Breast feeding is actually the best thing that you could do for a jaundice baby because colostrum, the rich fluid that comes in before your milk, actually acts as a laxative to help the baby pass meconium, a baby s first bowel movement, which is high in bilirubin (Lim 70). There are many reasons to breast feed, but the most important reasons have to do with the health of you and your child. Did you know that breast feeding is possibly linked to reducing the risk of breast cancer that occurs before menopause (Eisenberg, Murkoff, and Hathaway 5) ? Nursing also helps a women recover after child birth. It is part of a natural cycle and will help your uterus go back to pre pregnancy size. With the influence of mannerism in Renaissance , the composition of the figures intertwine and create not just complex composition but a dynamic three dimensional space. Both of the child have its left leg stepping forward, however, because of the diagonal composition in the Dolci painting and the depth expressed by the diagonal accent, it enhances the three dimensional effect. Dolci s composition is also more unified meaning the subjects form a dynamic composition relationship. There is more variation of postures in the painting and their limbs, accessories are more intertwined. The scene seems more like a happening than a positioned, still portrait. Romano s composition of the space seem to be more layer based and there are less spatial relationships between the figures. Dolci also introduced a new technique by cropping the image of the subjects with a slight highlighted line. This new technique is unique in a way that it restraint the subject in another area than the frame. This enhances the three dimensional effect evermore, giving the illusion as if the viewer would peek into the space inside of the painting, instead of looking directly at the image and associating it with areas outside of the painting such as a frame which naturally limits space and create a barrier between the viewer and the subjects in painting ... The only punishment for the stepmother and stepsisters is that they just have to see Cinderella get what they wanted, which was to marry the prince. This is extremely hard for them because that was what they wanted the most and now they have to see their step sister and maid who was much too dirty to be seen (Grimm) get what they wanted. They are probably also pretty angry and upset about what happened. It is noticeable in the film that they are all furious that Cinderella got to become the princess. The Canterbury Tales and Beowulf compare in many things, including imagery. When the copy line is used, other people know who will be receiving a copy. The copy line usually includes a symbol: c: for copy, pc: for photocopy, and bc: blind copy (used only to limit readers of other copies). The names of the recipients should follow these symbols listed in organizational rank (Writing@CSU: Writing Guide, 2004, p. 1). All of the components discussed above are effective ways to write an effective business letter. An effective business letter speaks to a specific reader. Therefore, the right type of business letter must reach the reader. The most common types of business letters are: 1) Acknowledgement Letters, 2) Adjustment Letters, 3) Complaint Letters, 4) Inquiry Letters, 5) Order Letters, and Response Letters. (Writing@CSU: Writing Guide, 2004 p. 1). These type letters helps guide the reader to understanding what the writer intended. Nothing can be more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Civil Rights Dbq Despite its precepts of liberty and justice for all, America has a long history of preventing certain segments of the population from enjoying all of the liberties they are entitled to. While America has made several key advances since the days of the Founding Fathers, there is still progress to be made. Civil liberty issues of the past have not been fully resolved, as shown by racial separatism, unequal democratic participation, and interference with freedom of speech. As shown by racial separatism, civil liberty issues have not been resolved. Until the landmark case of Brown v. Board of Education and the Civil Rights era of the 1960s, segregation was permissible under the notion that facilities such as restrooms and schools would be separate ... In a photograph of a 1967 Vietnam War protest in New York, a large crowd was pictured standing united as one despite the differences of the people themselves (Source B). This is an example of pathos, because their unity emphasizes that the war was a human issue rather than one pertaining to a certain segment of society, or even of nationality. The diversity of the protesters also reflects an unfortunate layer of irony to the government s decision to join the Vietnam War, as most Americans arrived in the country because of immigration, yet America s interjection into the war and subsequent use of the chemical Agent Orange caused the displacement of many Vietnamese civilians. Another feature of note in the image is a young boy, holding a sign declaring that children [were] not born to burn in large black letters (Source B). The correlation between the speaker and the message is an unmistakable example of pathos, meant to evoke guilt in the government officials who had chosen to go to war and those watching from their television sets at home. Indeed, in what was later found to be a war crime, the napalm strikes and use of chemical agents like Agent Orange gravely injured hundreds of thousands of innocent Vietnamese civilians, yet those who dared to protest it were seen as favoring Communism and were often subject to mass arrest as a form of censorship. Just as the Vietnam War protesters spoke out about the injustices they saw in their society, it is imperative that American citizens retain their freedom of speech so that public censorship does not occur when addressing future issues; however, arrests and violence against protesters is still common, indicating that interference with freedom of speech is still a problem ... • 32. Technology And The Medical Industry Abstract Stethoscopes have been around for nearly more than 200 years. From the early modern stethoscopes made of brass and wood, to common acoustic stethoscopes doctors use these days. Now, digital/electronic stethoscopes have been invented in which they are advanced and has more uses than acoustic stethoscopes. However they are much more costly than other stethoscopes and also tend to be at a heavier weight. These digital stethoscopes provide detailed information and have many functions to for the doctors to better analyse patients. 1. Introduction What will the world be like if there is technology? It is definitely difficult to picture the world without the use of technology in the daily lives of human beings. Throughout the years, technology has advanced rapidly. For the medical industry, according to research done by EvaluatePharma ® , the medical technology market is forecasted to reach about $440 Billion by 2018, increasing at a rate of about 4.4% each year from 2011 (MEDTECH MARKET TO ACHIEVE GLOBAL SALES OF $440 BILLION BY 2018, 2012). An example of an equipment that has advanced and improved is the stethoscope. The stethoscope is an equipment that is highly associated with doctors whereby almost all doctors use them to analyse patients. The purpose of this report is to educate the public of the new and advanced digital stethoscope that we have today. This paper covers the history and functions of stethoscopes, as well as elaborating the merits and components of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Disadvantages Of Mobile Technology Mobile technology gives people the power to build community and bring the world closer together, as we can connect our loved ones far and near. Regardless of where one resides, communication and strong community can be possible with the help of mobile technology. When I came to the United States back in 2012, I was homesick. There was not a lot that I could do to connect with my friends and relatives back home, other than send them texts or call them. Now, with more advanced technology that I am exposed to, I can video call on Facebook Messenger. I have been video calling my friends and relatives back home since 2013. Although we are living different lives, with the help of the Facebook Messenger, we are able to share our experience with one another. I am used to this feature, and I cannot imagine myself losing touch with my friends and relatives back home, as I learn from their experiences just as I tell them about mine. The reason I have not gone back home since 2012, is because of Facebook s video calling feature. I did not feel a need to go see my friends and relatives because I was able to see them through video calling. When I video call, I am usually with my friends. That way I am able to connect my Indian friends with my American friends and form community between the two. With the help of mobile technology, we are able to build community across a broader area. When some crisis happens, the public is made aware of it through social media. Due to this awareness, we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. A Modest Inaccuracy Mathematics is a logical and precise subject. Without precision in math everything is imprecise. A modest inaccuracy can produce a catastrophe. For example, if a doctor fails to calculate the correct amount of medicine to give a patient, it could result in a serious complication, such as death. A further example is the logic and precision it takes to construct a building. If there is one minor miscalculation the whole building could collapse, causing mass destruction. As specified above, you have to be very cautious in math, especially when designing a building. One tangible example would be the Sampoong Department Store collapse in South Korea. On June 29 1995, the 5 level department store collapsed, injuring 937 people and killing 502. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Scurvy Is Not A Disease Scurvy is not a disease that is not talked about often. Before the twenty first century, scurvy was prevalent in nearly every part of the world. With today s amazing advances in medicine, scurvy is not generally a disease that most people in America or other civilized countries need to worry about. While it is rare, scurvy does occur and it is incredibly treatable. The symptoms are reversible and treatment is easy with the right amount of vitamin C added to the diet to offset what has been missing. Scurvy is a disease that has been around since ancient times. Originally, there were many different ideas about what caused scurvy. Genetics, toxins, the environment, and infections were among many of the explanations for scurvy. Of all the people afflicted with scurvy, the most numerous were sailors. Surgeons and doctors out at sea with the sailors were among the first to be able to describe the disease in clinical detail and find a treatment that was effective in clearing up scurvy. Sir James Lind, a surgeon for the British Navy, has been credited with finding an easy way to treat scurvy; with lemons and oranges. While scurvy was extremely common while out at sea, cases still came about on land as well. The people most effected by scurvy on land were civil war soldiers, gold rushers in California, and Irish and English populations during the Great Potato Famine. Scientists discovered an antiscorbutic factor that citrus fruits and potatoes carried in 1931. This factor was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Epigenetic Engineering Personal Statement I was fascinated to discover that my namesake was the co discoverer of DNA, and, as a child, this coincidence undoubtedly influenced my love of science. I followed the scientific developments of the 21st century with interest particularly genome project research. My studies continue to direct me towards this field: I want to be part of this on going scientific revolution, which is constantly changing and influencing how we live our lives. My interest in biology grew with the IGCSE course, especially its introduction to fundamental genetic engineering. Further inspired by the AS syllabus, I broadened my knowledge by reading the New Scientist. Williams and Dunbar s recent article raised a concept I hadn t considered before: that humans and ... Gene therapy is a controversial topic; my EPQ has revealed to me the intense ethical debates that surround cutting edge science. Work experience at Fujifilm Diosynth confirmed that research and practical lab work for biology and chemistry is something I enjoy. The scientists gave me amazing opportunities to apply my knowledge to situations, such as analysing optical density results taken from a running bioreactor. I got to see the precision behind academic research and was taught laboratory skills used in industry every day, including the use of gram staining to differentiate between bacterial species, and SDS PAGE gels to separate proteins. Life at a molecular level particularly interests me, as it combines chemistry and biology to explain concepts such as Systems Chemistry and the origins of life. Why chemical reactions happen by J Keeler and P Wothers helped me to understand these ideas, as well as complementing my A level chemistry course. I tested my chemistry and problem solving ... • 37. Evolution Was Introduced By Charles Darwin The idea of evolution was introduced by Charles Darwin, and explains how animals change over time. The theory states that every organism on the Earth originated from a common ancestor and then, through the process of natural selection, how those animals branched off to become different organisms. Scholars use this theory to explain how animals that live on Earth change over time. However, scientists find it difficult to use this theory to explain some events that occurred in the geologic time period, such as the Cambrian Explosion. The Cambrian explosion was a macro evolutionary event that happened during the late Ediacaran and early Cambrian period. It introduced a number of phyla on the Earth, and significantly affected the animal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a mass extinction takes place, the dominant species of that time get removed, enabling other organisms to use the resources they once did. This means that the extinction of the Ediacaran animals could have left a pathway for the newly made Cambrian species. Unfortunately, there are problems that arise when examining this theory. The extinction of the Ediacaran period does not explain the polyphyletic nature or the lengthy duration of the Cambrian Explosion (Xingliang Zhang, 2014). Another theory scholars believe could have led to the rapid appearance of polyphyletic organisms in the Cambrian could have occurred from the mineral and salinity content of the water. The salt concentration that is present in the water controls and limits the amount of biologic activity, since the saltier an area is, the fewer animals can live there. Less animals are able to survive in places that have high salt concentration due to the process of osmosis, which dehydrates the animals making them unable to survive in those environments. From looking at ocean salinity modeling, which was developed by observing maximum and minima values of present day evaporates, scholars have concluded that there was a significant salinity decline from the Neoproterozoic to the Cambrian. The decline in salinity seen in this time period, may have had an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Rabit And The Wolf In One Flew Over The Poo s Institutionalized. Ken Kasey uses the rabit and wolf theme to illustrate the harm an institutioncan take on a man s self worth. By using this metaphor that portrays a loss of confidence, intimidation, and paranoia one undergos when dealing with such a harsh system. Through this loss of confidence, Kasey demonstrates how an institution can enable a person s ability to make decisions upon themselves. Overtime they believe this type of authority is needed to survive, as Dale Harding explains to a new patient, We need a good strong wolf like the nurse to teach us our place (55). This speculates that a necessary requirement of their being is soley based on one powerful individual providing them with a list of rules. The intimidation factor claims that patients must subdue themselves the policies in place or face the consequences. Caitlyn Buteaux Mrs. Parham English III AP 1st block 4 February 2013 Analysis of William Faulkner s Noble Prize of Literature Acceptance Speech William Faulkner was an often misunderstood writer of many novels and short stories. ( William Faulkner s Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech ) It was not until 1949 and after his death when he was given the Nobel Prize in Literature that people began to acknowledge him and his works. ( William Faulkner ) In his Nobel Prize of Literature acceptance speech, at the city hall in Stockholm on December 10, 1950, Faulkner uses a powerful tone and effective rhetorical devices to convey his purpose. In his Nobel Prize of Literature acceptance speech, William Faulkner utilizes rhetorical devices such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This device helps him convey that people need to start writing about emotional conflicts with themselves because that alone can make good writing. He also uses a metaphor to compare the writing of something meaningful and important to something not when he states, He writes not of the heart but of the glands . This helps the effectiveness by comparing something major and meaningful such as the heart to something less meaningful and pity as a gland. These were effective by helping Faulkner relate to everyday situations and thing we are familiar in life therefore aiding him in connecting with his audience. Faulkner uses syntactical strategies throughout his speech to assist him in communicating his message to his audience. In the third paragraph he emphasizes a syntax device known as anaphora, when stating, He must learn them again... He much teach himself... He writes not of love...He writes not of the heart... .The anaphora helps Faulkner be effective in his argument by the repetition of words to help him get his view of things across to the audience. To also succor his effectiveness he uses polysyndeton, which is used to draw the audience s attention therefore adding the effect of persistence and intensity to help keep his audiences attention, making his speech effective. An example of polysyndeton is when he declares love and honor and pity and pride and compassion and sacrifice This quote helps signify that authors need to write from their soul and ...
