Research into our Potential Target Audience.

When starting my research into potential target audiences
for our product I initially looked on the website of the band which
produced the track which we are using (www.thejoyformidable.co
m). On this forum, fans are encouraged to leave their comments
about the band, among other things. The posts included
comments such as “I love the new song, guys! Keep it up!”
“Loving the music!”. All users have a profile and so their age can
be known. I assessed those people who had commented on the
website for the band and saw that on average, the fans were aged
between 15 and 19. This led me to believe that we were aiming
our video to one of their tracks at a teenage audience, in keeping
with this average.
To reinforce my findings I then checked The Joy
Formidable’s Facebook page, in order to see what age range their
fans were part of. Most of the comment on their Facebook page
were a plea for the band to come to their city in order for them to
hear the music live.

Of the people who were pleading to see them, two were between
the age of 15-19 and two were above 25. This is a direct split.
However, the sample size is not big enough to make assumptions
so I looked at others on their Facebook page. I then looked at the
comments on their page underneath a posted link to a poster
advertising a gig of theirs. The comments were varied, as were the
ages of those commenting.

Of the 10 that commented on the advert, 7 were between the
ages of 15-19 and the remaining 3 were older than 25. This shows
that although the average fan is an adolescent, there are still fans
of the band who are of an older age.
Lastly, in order to conclude my research, I looked at the
comments on their videos uploaded to Youtube. I looked at their
different videos for different songs and considered the comments.
The comments included “Great song!” “I love this video, such a
good band!” (and a sample seen below.)

I discovered that the average age for those commenting on their
Youtube videos was 16-19. Putting all of my research together, I
can conclude that the majority of fans are teenagers and that is
the target audience that we should aim for.
