The document discusses feedback received from the target audience of young adults aged 16-24 for a music video. Focus groups with boys and girls of that age range confirmed that a romantic couple should be featured in the video based on the song's theme. Audience members also identified with the chosen band and felt the video included the right elements for the indie music genre. Overall, feedback indicated the narrative and creative effects aligned with expectations for a video of this type of song.
2. My initial idea for my target audience was young adults. These are people who are from sixteen to twenty-
four years old. I based this decision on the genre of the music which is indie. People relate indie music to
romance, and the indie style clothing (checked shirt and tight jeans). There are many people who are
between sixteen and twenty-four who start to get involved with romance and get into
relationships, therefore this would be a good audience for my music video which has romance in it, and the
name it ‘A certain romance’ suggests it. There are many people around that age, from what I have seen
myself, that wear the indie style clothing.
Arctic Monkey are a very known band as they have nearly a million followers on twitter, and over five million
likes on Facebook, that on two of the biggest social networking site. I also know this as many of my friends
who are young adults are fans themselves. The chosen song for my music video ‘A certain romance’ has
millions of views itself, therefore I knew the market was very big in general.
This research help base the decision who would the music video be best suitable for and what key elements
should be included in it fro example, the romance included in the video. This would allow the audience to
recognise the genre of the music and possibly relate to it.
3. We did arrange focus groups, in order to ask both genders about our
idea. First of all we wrote down the questions we were going to
ask, then got two boy and two girls to answer them while being
recorded. The questions asked were about the song choice. If they
have heard of the band and song before and if they like them.
Secondly what they thought should be included in the music
video, such as a couple. Thirdly we asked who they thought is the
audience for this type of music, and one of the answers was “people
our age” therefore seventeen and eighteen year old (young adults).
The focus groups had an impact on our planning as it made it more
clear and make us more confident about the product. This is because
some of the ideas that we had as a group were then confirmed
through doing the focus groups. For example the idea that a couple
should be included was our group idea and then it was also suggested
by people from the focus groups which made us as a group even more
sure about it.
4. Using Web 2.0, it allowed us to connect and share with people. We used
websites such as twitter to research and get the idea of how big and
who our target audience may be. Blogger to show the planning and
process of our product to make sure we were heading the right way.
finally, YouTube as it has allowed us to share the video planning
(animatic) and the final product so the audience around the world can
view the music video.
Once the video was completed we asked people who fit in into our
target audience to give us feedback after watching the music video.
Through this we found out that the idea has a good narrative and idea
to it. We also found out that they liked the creativity with the effects
(for example cutting to the beat). Overall audience feedback informed
us that we included the right elements which would be seen in a video
for the song genre (indie). Therefore, I think we have achieved our aim
in meeting their expectations
