This document discusses how to transform direct speech into reported or indirect speech. It provides rules for changing verbs and pronouns when reporting statements, questions, commands, requests and advice that were originally in the present or past tense. For statements, all verbs must change to agree with the reporting verb, becoming one tense back. For questions, the question word is removed and question structure is changed to a statement. Commands, requests and advice use an infinitive phrase instead of changing verb tenses. Examples are given to illustrate the different conversions between direct and indirect speech.
