International Trade and Role of Bank
International Trade
International trade is exchange of capital, goods, and services across international borders or
territories. In most countries, it represents a significant share of gross domestic product (GDP). While
international trade has been present throughout much of history, its economic, social, and political
importance has been on the rise in recent centuries.
Industrialization, advanced transportation, globalization, multinational corporations, and outsourcing
are all having a major impact on the international trade system. Increasing international trade is crucial
to the continuance of globalization. Without international trade, nations would be limited to the goods
and services produced within their own borders.
Difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For centuries under the belief in mercantilism most nations had high tariffs and many restrictions on
international trade.
In the 19th century, especially in the United Kingdom, a belief in free trade became paramount. This
belief became the dominant thinking among western nations since then. In the years since the Second
World War, controversial multilateral treaties have attempted to promote free trade while creating a
globally regulated trade structure. These trade agreements have often resulted in discontent and protest
with claims of unfair trade that is not beneficial to developing countries
A. General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and
B. World Trade Organization
The regulation of international trade is done through the World Trade Organization at the global level,
and through several other regional arrangements such as MERCOSUR in South America, the North
American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between the United States, Canada and Mexico, and the
European Union between 27 independent states.
Risk in International Trade
Companies doing business across international borders face many of the same risks as would normally
be evident in strictly domestic transactions.

The Boy On The Wooden Box
Surviving The War Could you ever picture yourself being in one of the World Wars? Well, neither did
Leon Leyson. I chose the novel The Boy On The Wooden Box for my independent reading project.
The book is about a young boy surviving through a killer war. Leon was a Holocaust survivor and the
youngest boy on Schindler s List. Leon wrote the book The Boy On The Wooden Box in 2013, with
the help of Marilyn J. Harran and Elisabeth B. Leyson, sixty four years after Leon arrived in the
United States. World War Two affected millions of people and it is very important that stories from the
war are shared.
In the beginning of the war Leon and his family lived in Kraków, Poland. Leon had four siblings, their
names were: Hershel, Tsalig, David, and Pesza. Leon came from a jewish family, which would not
work in their favor during the Holocaust. Once the war started Leon and his family were transferred
into the ghetto. The ghetto was a fenced in minature town, that was made by the Germans and was
placed in the center of Kraków. All of the Jews were forced to live in the ghetto. After the war Pesza
and David moved to Czechoslovakia, Israel, while Leon and his parents immigrated to America. Leon
and his parents spent years in a United Nations relief organization camp in Germany while waiting to
go to America. The camp was for Jews who were trying to make it to the United States, after the war
ended. At the camp Leon changed his name from Leib Lejzon to the American

Summary Of Death Of A Moth By Virginia Woolf
In ¨The Death of a Moth¨ by Virginia Woolf, Woolf writes about how she observes a moth´s death.
Throughout the essay Woolf had a complex attitude towards the moth. In order to establish her
depressing, hopeless, and desperate tone, she uses symbolism, imagery, juxtaposition, and syntax.
Virginia Woolf utilized imagery to make the reader comprehend that the moth´s battle with death was
homogeneous to her battle with her bipolar tendencies and depression. In the fourth paragraph, ¨He
was trying to resume his dancing, but seemed either so stiff or so awkward.....and when he tried to fly
across it he failed,¨ Woolf illustrates the struggle of the moth. The moth makes many attempts to fly
again, but it unfortunately fails. This makes the reader

Victor And Walton In Frankenstein
Robert Walton, an explorer, and Victor Frankenstein are the two characters in Frankenstein; Or, the
Modern Prometheus who both represent the European elite, as well as display poor moral
characteristics. Although he is not described explicitly as a member of the European elite, Walton is
still considered as member of upper class European society because he is rich. In his first letter to his
sister Margaret, Walton describes how he got rich, I inherited the fortune of my cousin (Shelley 52).
Because he is a male with money in 18th century Europe, he is essentially part of the upper class.
Moreover, he is an explorer of the polar regions, a position held in history only by other prominent
and influential figures like, Sir James Clark Ross,

The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson Essay
The Lottery , by Shirley Jackson is a short story about a disturbing social practice in a village.
Besides, there were about three hundred citizens in the small village where the setting took place. The
introduction of the lottery is about an event that takes place every year on 27th in the month of June,
where the community members of this tradition organize a lottery. Everyone in the village including
small children to adults is expected to participate. Besides, when this story was introduced at the very
first in 1948 by Shirley Jackson, many people were upset. This is because this story was so strange to
undertake in modern enlightened times. Furthermore, understanding the fact ... Show more content on

Besides, Jackson mentions the children assembled first, of course. School was recently over for the
summer and the feeling of liberty at uneasily on most of them. (pg. 194). Here Jackson was arguing
that how the lottery was very barbaric ritual and the traditions beliefs has become a normal thing
among the villagers. Further, the children even know what the lottery is about. This therefore proves
how barbaric this village. In addition, modern societies today do not allow their children to participate
in such events of violence and murderous acts. Comparing the time period of those days to today,
many of the traditions and rituals that took place in the lottery has almost been demolished. Besides,
there are traditions today that practice stoning a person to death in public. One of them is the Islamic
religion. In some Muslim countries governed by shari ah law, stoning is practiced. Among of them are
Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and United Arab Emirates (UAE). Furthermore, beginning of year 2002,
announced were four stoning verdicts against women in Islamic states. One in Pakistan and Sudan and
two were in Nigeria. This punishment of stoning was charged for adultery. According to Azlan Reza,
recently Nigeria has practiced this punishment for crimes of sodomy and adultery. However, according
to Emam Malek, stoning punishment has been a long tradition in Islamic religion. Besides, when it

Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Ronald Reagan
Two hundred and nine thousand. That is the number of lives that were nobly given to save the many
during the invasion of Normandy (D day and the Battle of Normandy). The courageous men and
women fought continuously for days on end, climbing the jagged cliffs of Normandy, France. Under
rifle fire from gun nests from above, the allied troops were able to take control of the coastline, but not
without great sacrifice. The speech given by Ronald Reagan was made to commemorate those who
fearlessly fought for our country and the many thousands that gave their lives during those hard days
of war. His speech had a clear message, to honor and remember those who gave and risked their lives
during the invasion of Normandy.
Logos is can be seen frequently in this speech. President Reagan was able to use logic to honor the
soldiers that fought in the invasion. He used the number of casualties to show ... Show more content

Reagan spoke with passion and sorrow. But he showed an appreciation and respect for those who
fought. He uses the word we very often, which unites the people and shows union. In his speech he
uses the word we 19 times to show the bond between us as a people, and as a nation. He uses
rhetorical questions asking why they served and fought till their last breath. You were young the day
you took these cliffs; some of you were hardly more than boys, with the deepest joys of life before
you. Yet, you risked everything here. Why? Why did you do it? What impelled you to put aside the
instinct for self preservation and risk your lives to take these cliffs? What inspired all the men of the
armies that met here? We look at you, and somehow we know the answer. It was faith and belief; it
was loyalty and love. (Reagan). He answers his questions with love and loyalty for their families and
their country. Reagan uses this in his speech to make the audience think deeply about why the men did

The Sacred Language of Toni Morrison Essay
The Sacred Language of Toni Morrison
Toni Morrison makes a good point when, in her acceptance speech upon receiving the Nobel Prize in
Literature, she says, Narrative . . . is . . . one of the principal ways in which we absorb knowledge (7).
The words we use and the way in which we use them is how we, as humans, communicate to each
other our thoughts, feelings, and actions and therefore our knowledge of the world and its peoples.
Knowledge is power. In this way, our language, too, is powerful.
In her acceptance speech, Morrison tries to communicate the idea that we must be careful with how
we use our words. She analogizes the use of language to the life of a metaphoric bird in a tale of a
wise, old, blind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout her speech, Toni Morrison works towards defining and supporting this thesis of
responsibility. It is our responsibility, as users of words, to make language thrive. Elizabeth Fox
Genovese has a similar goal, but takes a different approach in her essay The Claims of a Common
Culture: Gender, Race, Class and the Canon. She speaks on the use and composition of the canon
taught in humanities classes. Her idea is that the canon of today is much too one sided and does not
include the influence of the several different cultures, peoples, and ideas that make up our society. She
says that with respect to representativeness, the canon fails woefully. It represent[s] a small,
sometimes minute, portion of the elite, which itself constitute[s] a statistical minority of the population
(Fox Genovese 19). In this abstract way, Fox Genovese is reiterating Morrison s words that what we
say, and how we say it (or teach it), or what we fail to say (as in the canon taught today) is
monumentally influencing and impactful upon others.
If we are not aware of the words that come out of our mouths due to lack of thought or attention, we
all suffer and we are all at fault: When language dies, out of carelessness, disuse, indifference, and
absence of esteem, or killed by fiat, . . . all users and makers are accountable for its demise (Morrison
14 15). The standards of society are changing and with them the

Paul Levy Essay
Paul Levy s strong transformational leadership style facilitated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
(BIDMC) from ailing to thriving. The organization faced many dire issues including financial crisis,
poor quality of patient care, and low staff morale. This grim outlook required a strong
transformational leader. Levy displayed all the characteristics of a powerful and effective leader by
embracing intellectual stimulation, individual consideration, and charisma which enabled him to lead
them through the crisis. Levy was able to inspire the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center staff by
clearly presenting the hospitals challenges and seeking out different viewpoints to solve them. He was

This helps support and develops followers to improve self confidence and a desire to improve
performance. When you have a team that believes in themselves, you can achieve so much more than
your average organization. Levy believes in the CEO as a teacher, he motivates his management team
in improving decision making and accountability, an example is the discharging of patients which
were being seen as a bottleneck (getting people who are well to leave the hospital). The Department of
Medicine was responsible for coming up with a plan to resolve the issue, and had yet to take action in
implementing their new plan. Levy addressed this in a staff meeting, direct at the head of the
Department, in front of everyone. He said that in order to get anything done, you need a champion,
periodic reporting, and corrective actions. This put peer pressure on the Department of Medicine to
produce results, singling them out as aware of an issue although they had not yet taken action. This is
a lesson on how to organize things to get things done. He was also motivating other to follow suit and
start implementing improvements in their departments. Charismatic leaders are able to inspire emotion
and passion in their followers by being optimistic and enthusiastic. Without passionate and emotional
employees, an organization will be crippled and unable to face

How Reiki Changed My Life
Reiki energy has had a profound effect on different areas of my life. For starters, I normally offer
myself a full body reiki session at the end of the day and offer myself mini sessions throughout the
day (or whenever I find myself uneasy and ungrounded). It allows me to center and ground myself in
the Now instead of allowing myself feel trapped by fear. I find that reiki allows me to bring out the
best of me.
I also enjoy offering myself the energy before doing an oracle/tarot reading. I find the readings come
out clearer and sometimes nearly laughable (at least it is how I feel). For example, I was giving myself
a reading with my Zen cards and my question was in regards to my past life. The first card I drew was
past life. This gave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of which as time passed, developed to be answers I sought for. It just took patience to see the
answers were already there. Reiki was this factor that allowed me to open my eyes to really see. Not in
the physical sense, but from the heart. And because of this, I understand with patience and gratitude, I
was able to manifest and connect with energies around me. The more grateful I was the quicker
manifesting became. Since last year, I began to develop a better understanding of energies and how
they mirror your vibration. Example: A few months ago, I found myself not wanting to be at work
anymore and felt such pain/resistance being there. I realized my relationship with my supervisor had
become tense and in a way it was disheartening since I was not sure what changed in our dynamic. I
placed this question upon the universe and began to send her distant reiki. I used what I learned in
reiki II to clear the office space as well. I focused a lot on my intent to help her and to find gratitude
for working with Girls Inc. of NYC. A few weeks later, she spoke to me about her issues with our
CEO and how she realized we were not the same team anymore. I was surprised she realized it, since
it seemed she did not notice or mind the change. I was able to use reiki to manifest a better
relationship with my supervisor, and was truly grateful that the universe heard me!

The Consequences Of Substance Abuse
Substance abuse is a catastrophic illness. People put it upon themselves when they become addicted,
but unfortunately, there is a lack of support when an addiction becomes a lifestyle. Awareness is the
main attack for the battle of substance abuse and sadly, most people are blind to the fact of how
serious addiction can be. Educating youth on the consequences of doing drugs and consuming alcohol
is the most significant way to ensure they make smart choices. For the people who are already
suffering the evil, a strong support system must be implemented in their lives. Obviously, 12 step
programs are active all across America today, but is it enough? I watched my Dad almost die in front

Are We Spiritual Machine Summary
Charles H. Duell, US commissioner of patents, famously quipped in 1881 that everything that could
be invented already had been. It took until 1908 for the first Model T to roll out of a factory. It is a
provincial viewpoint that has been around since Ecclesiastes (1:9) that we have reached the pinnacle
of our technological game and yet as each new paradigm rolls to a close and our imaginations are
saturated with the reality of the world we begin to question whether or not this is the time that the
future will end. Moore s law may just the most recent paradigm of technological growth, but it makes
sense that this paradigm will shift into the next and AI will be the future of sentience. Ray Kurzweil

If it is true that we are a species that is destined to continue our path of unrestrained growth then it
follows that w must be the first to reach such a place. Most non conspiracy solutions to the Fermi
Paradox lie on similar veins to The Great Filter saying that their is a point that technological advances
can reach before a society collapses on itself and that is why we have seen no evidence of other alien
life. But Kurzweil makes bold claims that seem to disagree with this theory. The possibility that an
undying intelligent form could exist means that it is likely they would and probably have colonized
the galaxy by going from planet to plant mining resources. Von Neumann probes as they are called
would be incredibly efficient power generators as, if they were equipped with solar panels, they could
act as a sort of dyson swarm to maximize energy collection. In terms of the Fermi Paradox then, the
potential existence of these machines means we should see some evidence of their existence, and yet
as we look to the stars we see

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Biocellulose
5. DISCUSSION
Bacterial cellulose or biocellulose (BC) is an extracellular cellulose naturally produced by many
microorganisms. BC has been considered as an alternative biomaterial since it possesses superior
qualities to other cellulose. BC exhibits many unique characteristics which are different from those of
other plant celluloses Biocellulose has chemical and physical properties that are superior to the
properties of plant derived cellulose. Compared to plant cellulose, the nanofibril network of
biocellulose has interesting properties such as excellent water holding capacity, high degree of
polymerization, high crystallinity, high purity, good biocompatibility, and excellent mechanical
properties. Therefore, due to its many unique properties, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cost of the fermentation medium represents a critical aspect of the commercial production of
biocellulose. The cheaper substrate used instead of the commonly used sugars as glucose or fructose
might result in a lower cost of the final product. In this context, two algal substrates have been tested
such as green alga (U. lactuca) and sea grass (P. oceanic). Data confirmed that P. oceanic was the best
substrate in medium HSPO supporting the highest production of biocellulose (5.7 g/l). Carbohydrates
are the major component of seagrass and seaweeds (ca. 50 70% on a dry basis) (Uchida, 2011),
containing mostly polysaccharides to construct algal tissue. For example, brown algae contain alginate
and fucoidan as major components. Red algae contain galactan (e.g. agar, carrageenan) as a major
component. Seagrasses and green algae contain hemicellulose and cellulose as major components.
These major algal polysaccharides are known to be unfavorable substrates for fermentation. This may
be one of the reasons why algal fermentation technology has yet to be developed. Recently, seaweed
could be used as a substrate for lactic acid and ethanol fermentation, provided that the algal tissue was
saccharified with cellulase enzymes. This finding opened the possibility of obtaining foods and related
items from algal fermentation (Uchida, 2002; Uchida and Murata, 2002; Uchida and Murata, 2004).
According to all these advances in algal fermentation, we suggest that there is a great possibility of
creating a new medium for industrial biocellulose production by G. xylinus using algal fermentation
technology in the near

in their product offerings. Not only would this allow customers to make Timken a one stop shop for

All of the cash flows are discounted back to the year of 2002 in the calculation of NPV value. With the
annual cost savings of $80 from 2003 to 2007 and the integration cost of total $130, Timken s new
NPV is calculated to be $970.42. There is the possibility that Timken can lose its BBB investment
grade rating. This is due to Timken taking on the $800 million in debt it needs to purchase Torrington.
The change in the company s debt composition will change ratios such as debt to capital which is used
to determine the investment grade rating. Compared to other industrial firms, Timken shows relatively
high sales numbers ($279.4 million) as well EBITDA figures ($275.7 million). According to table 3
(p. 4), only three ratios will change as taking on the $800 million in debt. The first one is EBIT
Interest Coverage Ratio, which drops from 2.63 to 0.90 and investment rating scale falls from BBB to
B. The second ratio is EBITDA Interest Coverage Ratio, which drops from 4.3 to 3.14 and investment
rating scale falls from BBB to B. The third one is Total Debt/Capital Ratio, which increases from 43
percent to 67 percent and drives the rating from BB to B. In conclusion, the $800 million debt has a
negative impact on Timken, since it lowers company s investment rating scale. If Timken decides to

Business owners and leaders of all management levels usually agree on one thing, a constant demand
to keep others in the work environment motivated and productive. Workplace productivity is a term
referring to how much work is accomplished in a work environment and how efficiently workers
complete tasks at their workplaces. Finding ways to increase workplace productivity is a task that can
be frustrating and time consuming. The ability to motivate and get employees to work efficiently in

upper management needs to be built and maintained for a positive and productive workplace. It takes
all employees working together as a team to build a strong and financially stable company. Companies
often brainstorm and discuss employee effectiveness and efficiency when trying to improve business
and productivity. These meetings given an opportunity for all levels of management to give input on
how to be more productive. These meetings also stratagize on how employees are able to be more
effective. An effective employee produces at a high level, while an efficient employee produces
quickly and intelligently.(smallbusiness) Inadequate procedures also so play a lack in production.
When a company uses outdated and inefficient methods to carry out its desired goals, its productivity
significantly decreases. Finding modern ways to complete task benefit both the employee and the
company. Companies can increase their productivity by streamlining and automating processes to

A Study On Oral History Assignment
Oral History Assignment For this assignment, I had chosen to interview my uncle, Atif. He is 43 years
old, married with four children, and currently resides in the Greater Toronto Area. He was born in
Karachi, Pakistan where he lived in an extended family with his parents, brothers sisters,
grandparents, aunts, uncles, and their kids. He had moved to Canada on October 26th 1990, by
himself, to fulfill his undergraduate degree at the University of Manitoba in Computer Science and
Math. He is now working at CGI as a Professional IT Manager. He describes himself as introverted,
responsible, independent, hard working, driven, logical and analytical. This is evident throughout his
interview, as he had a very analytical approach on observing advertisements. While Atif was growing
up back in Pakistan, advertising was a lot less relevant because of where he was, who he was and how
he interacted with the media. Firstly, there was only one channel that ran on TV from 5pm until 11pm.
Though, only on Sundays, the channel started from early mornings. There were no 24 hour broadcasts.
Very select commercials appeared on TV, that too mostly for necessity items. One that he remembers
fondly is a commercial for toothpaste. What attracted Atif about this commercial was its catchy jingle.

Wicca and Wiccan Practitioners Essay
Wicca one of the most recognizable pagan religions today in the USA and Great Britain is also
unfortunately, like many pagan religions, still greatly misunderstood by the general population: mainly
due to the media s often inaccurate or highly skewed presentation of Wicca and Wiccan practitioners.
This inaccurate depiction of Wicca and Wiccans often leads to people lumping Wiccans together with
occultists and Satanists and all the negative connotations that surround those words. Luckily, Wiccans
are neither occultist nor Satanists. Instead Wiccans are part witch part pagans whose unique beliefs,
traditions, and practices set them apart from other witches and pagans.

However, this does not mean we are all witches; in order to be a witch one must self identify as a
witch. Other types of magic can include healing, protection, divination, etc. Also it is important to note
that while all Wiccans are witches, not all witches are Wiccans as witches can be of any faith.
Another key aspect of being a Wiccan is being a pagan or neopagan. As defined by Prudence Jones
from the Pagan Federation International, pagan is a term used to describe a follower of a polytheistic
or pantheistic nature worshipping religion, while neopagan is a term used to describe those whose
religions, as Eric A. Powell states in his article Solstice at the Stones, consist of modern beliefs
inspired by ancient religious practices (36). According to Jones, the term neopagan is also used to
describe all those [religions] who are recognisably [sic] Pagan, but who do not adhere to any of the
standard [pagan] traditions. However, since most pagans today are actually neopagans as Powell
explains, modern pagans are more interested in evolving and cultivating their own practices rather
than trying to emulate traditional, ancient practices (41) often neopagans are simply referred to as
pagans.
According Jones, besides finding nature sacred, many pagan religions are polytheistic with many
believing in at least a god and a goddess. Again it is important to note that while all Wiccans are
pagans, not all pagans are Wiccans. For example, according to the

What A Stereotypical Dance World !
What a Stereotypical Dance World! There are many different worlds on this planet we live on called
Earth. Everyone alive lives in some kind of little world of their own. There is the celebrity world, the
Disney World, Wally world , lots of different sports worlds, scholastic worlds, and so many others.
There is a particular world that some live in, and that is the World of Dance. When you are a part of
that world, you literally live and breathe it. Every aspect of the dance culture is wrapped up in that
world. To those looking in from the outside it is beautiful, filled with lights, lovely costumes,
mesmerizing music, and graceful movements.
Perhaps the very first image the general public would see in their mind s eye, upon hearing the word
dancer , is that of a darling little five year old girl in a pretty pink tutu and delicate ballet slippers
stepping into her local dance studio for the first time. Take someone a little deeper into that thought,
and they might see an overly thin, pale sixteen year old young woman, with collarbones and ribs
showing working herself almost to death to earn a minor part in a dance chorus. Suggest that someone
describe a dancer in the height of their career, and you might hear of a Prima Ballerina with the
Moscow Ballet. Ask someone to visualize a dancer in later years, and they might picture an older
woman with a greying bun atop her head, leading a class or perhaps helping younger dancer perfect a
performance, who is likely ailing

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Character Analysis
When Stieg Larsson s novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, hit the bookshelves, it was swiftly
heralded as one of Sweden s finest, and most popular crime novels to date. Published posthumously
after Larsson s death, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is an intricately designed and darkly ironic
piece of crime fiction. It must be emphasized, however, that it is indeed a work of Scandinavian crime
fiction, and is thereby subject to the clichés and to the common characteristics of other Scandinavian
crime fiction novels. The best way to chart these similarities is through the guidance of Bo Tao
Michäels 10 Commandments of Scandinavian Crime Fiction. To best articulate this point, this thesis
will focus on one of the ten commandments the equality between genders and will analyze its function
within The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. One will find that Larsson s novel not only fits seamlessly
with the parameters of Michäels commandments, but that it also expands one s notion of gender and
characterization in Scandinavian crime fiction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically, these type of novels contain prominent and strong female characters that often defy the
antiquated sphere of domesticity. This motif plays a prominent role in the characterizations of several
characters in the novel; most significantly with the protagonists, Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth
Salander, along with secondary character, Erika Berger. Lisbeth Salander, the female protagonist of
the novel, boldly defies numerous female stereotypes. There is a certain level of gender ambiguity
within Salander; however, much of her androgyny stems from the audience s preconceived tendency
to categorize characters into tight definitions, attempting to fit the character into their own comfortable
world view. It is this defiance that allows Salander to be so

The Causes Of High Student Debt
The Causes of High Student Debt
Today, in our society there is high expectation for students to go higher education after finishing high
school. Since College tuition is going skyrocket a lot of students are having hard time paying for their
tuitions. Most students, to pay for their college tuition, they have to apply for loans that put them in
dept after they graduate According to recent report by Fay, 72% of the Class of 2017 graduates owes
an average of more than $37,000 for the four years they put in earning a degree (Fay). These graduates
have only six month grace period before the first loan payment is due and for most of them; this is not
the way they expected to start their adult life (Fay). After graduation this debt can be overwhelming to
pay off. It isn t fair, but that s what it s like to be a student these days. It is very important to know the
factors that led to increase student loans. That helps students and their families to educate themselves
and to manage the loans.
The number one cause for students to get into too much debt is the high increase in college tuition cost
every year. According to Best, College costs are climbing faster than the cost of living, with more than
half of college students carrying an average debt of $27,000 at graduation (Best I II). Students tend to
be overburdened with debt when they graduate. Some go on to pursue advanced degrees; on the way,
they end up with more debt because the career these students are hoping for is

School District Budget Essay
Due to potential changes within a school district or a particular school, the construction of a school

elementary, middle school, and high school levels. The foundation of the budget is initially rolled over

administrators feel additions may be necessary. In some years, preparing a budget is simple if there are

Olmstead V. United States (1928)
Olmstead v. United States (1928)
Opinion delivered by Chief Justice Taft
Vote: 5 4
Case reached Supreme Court by writ of certiorari.
Facts:
The evidence in the records discloses a conspiracy of amazing magnitude to import, possess, and sell
liquor unlawfully. Involved were not less than fifty employees, two sea going vessels for
transportation of the goods to
British Columbia, a ranch beyond the city limits of Seattle with a large underground cache to store the
liquor, and many other caches around the area of
Seattle, a maintained city office with executives, secretaries, salesmen, deliverymen, dispatchers,

Procedural History:
Petitioners were convicted in the District Court of the Western District of Washington for conspiracy
to violate the National Prohibition Act. The conviction was upheld upon appeal to the Ninth Circuit
Court of Appeals. The case was granted writ of certiorari to the US Supreme Court.
Legal Issue:
Whether the use as evidence of private telephone conversations between the defendants and others,
intercepted by means of wiretapping, amounted to a violation of the fourth and fifth amendments.
Holding:
The Court held that the use of wiretaps to obtain evidence is not a violation of the Fourth Amendment
protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures, since the information obtained was neither
material, nor was it a thing to be seized.
Judgement:
The decision of the lower courts were upheld.
Legal Reasoning:

Becoming A Good Baseball Player
Establishing teamwork on and off the field is a skill that of which I excel at. This past year we had
teammates of all ages. We had 4 seniors, two of which did not get to play very often and sat the bench;
I tried to keep them upbeat and positive even though they didn t get much playing time.
There were were four of us Juniors. We were not only playing on the Varsity team; we played JV to
help out the younger less athletic players.
We had three Sophomores and two Freshman that came up in the ranks to play Varsity; they didn t
need encouragement on the field; but they needed to learn how we encourage even the less talented
players and not boast and brag about how much better we were than them.
One of the teammates I think I ve learned the most from is our player who is autistic. He started
playing his Sophomore year. We have seen him come from not being able to hold a bat or a glove to
actually catching balls and hitting them and making it on base to eventually scoring. This is where
working as a team brought us together to make the player with the least ability enjoy and actually
playing the game; even though at times it hurt our score; it made another individual feel good about
himself. When he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Asian American Stereotypes Essay
Pertaining to Tracy Lai s article titled, Asian American Women , Lai discusses how stereotypes
dehumanize people while turning them into objects to be manipulated. Lai touches on the topic of how
Asian people and cultures are stereotyped as being inferior and exotic. The problem that Lai brings to
our attention is that it is a struggle to be an Asian in America due to the fact that Asians have been
denied political, economic and social equality in America. Lai also brings to our attention the die hard
myth that Asians have made it in America, which is far from the truth.
I sense that Lai s argument is extremely effective due to the fact that stereotypes are not only seen
among Asians, they are also seen in many other cultures and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I have also noticed that there are very few Asian politicians, as well as very few women politicians,
within our culture. I do not know if this problem stems from Asian Americans not having a
historical/authoritative figure like Dr.
Martin Luther King representing African Americans, and Susan B. Anthony representing woman s
rights to vote. However, I do know that Asians do not receive the same types of opportunities as others
because they have been stereotyped for so long as being inferior. In addition, I feel that the reason why
Asians may be seen as inferior individuals is because they were one of the last cultures to start a
movement for equality that was inspired by other ethnic cultures.
Because of this somewhat late movement, our culture has not been able to adapt to this change, like
our culture has not adapted to women being paid the same as men.
Lai brought to my attention that Asians are claimed to value education more than other minorities and
Asians are said to have special intellectual affinities for math and science. Lai proceeded to raise the
point that this is a racist rationale because this is implying that other cultures are not able to succeed in
this type of area. For instance, I can relate to this statement because African American s are said to be
dominate in athletics, and they are also believed to have a higher vertical leap than others. I was
offended when I heard this because I received a scholarship to

High Plains Aquifer
The High Plains aquifer was formed from erosion and transporting materials of sands, clay, and gravel
from the Rocky Mountains from stream flows. This aquifer provides water for uses of irrigation and
drinking water for eight of the fifty states which are South Dakota, Texas, Nebraska, Colorado,
Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, and Wyoming. Since this aquifer spans over a vast area, it is
considered the largest in the United States. Also, because this aquifer passes through eight different
states, each state has a different policy about how each said state should handle the conservation of the
ground water that provides water to nearly 2.3 million people, and because it covers such a large area
over agricultural land, most of the water is used in irrigating the crops for 30 percent of the United
States (Dennehy, 2013). The discrepancies between the eight states the aquifer overlies causes huge
problems involving the depletion of the groundwater source if certain measures are not taken to
sustain the livelihood of The High Plains Aquifer (Mann, 2009).
The High Plains Aquifer s main source of recharging comes from precipitation at a low rate below .30
inches in parts of Texas, but over 5 inches in some parts of the other eight states within the aquifer s
territory including Kansas and Nebraska (Dennehy, 2013). The issues with in managing the ... Show

Introduction
The aim of the experiment is to observe how Magnesium reacts with the Oxygen under the high
temperature and to calculate percentage yield of the product.
Magnesium (solid) + Oxygen (gas) ⟶ Magnesium Oxide (solid)
2Mg (s) + O_2(g) ⟶ 2MgO (s)

If 48g of Mg produces 80g of MgO, than 1g of Mg produces: (80.6 g)/(48.6 g) = 1.66g of MgO.
So if started with 0.66g of Mg, this means 0.66g x 1.66g = 1.0956g of MgO should have been
received. (Theoretical yield)
Percentage yield of MgO = (1.01 g)/(1.0956 g) x 100% = 92.18 %
The percentage yield of the product is quite high, this shows that experiment was 92.18% accurate.
This reaction caused a chemical change. When Magnesium reacted with Oxygen new compound was
formed called Magnesium Oxide. Magnesium Oxide was solid, it changed the color to white/grey as
well as increased in weight by 0.35g. Magnesium and Oxygen bonds where broken in order to
compose another new compound. Magnesium being a metal, positively charged, had 2 electrons to
give away, and Oxygen being nonmetal, negatively charged, had 2 spaces for the electrons to join. So
the bond between these two elements is ionic bond, which made Magnesium Oxide really strong
compound, because both elements are oppositely charged ions. This is why it would be really difficult
to pull them apart, as well as the melting point is really

Analysis of Thirteen Days Directed by Robert Donaldson Essay
Analysis of Thirteen Days Directed by Robert Donaldson
Good evening my fellow citizens...This Government, as promised, has maintained the closest
surveillance of the Soviet Military buildup on the island of Cuba. Within the past week, unmistakable
evidence has established the fact that a series of offensive missile sites is now in preparation on that
imprisoned island. The purpose of these bases can be none other than to provide a nuclear strike
capability against the Western Hemisphere. These are the exact words spoken by John F. Kennedy in
his address to the nation on October 22, 1962. The president had finally told the American people
what was happening with the crisis in Cuba and what that government was determined to do about it.

The story was so intriguing in real life that not much needed to be changed. There are many
interesting scenes during the film that had many exact words from documents released after the fact.
One amazing scene takes place in the oval office where the president is still contemplating an air
strike and prepares to address congress regarding his actions. While this scene is very short in the film,
the director did a great job of picking certain important parts of the speeches. In reality, most of the
meeting deals with different men nitpicking parts of the speeches, something an audience would not
love to see, but Donaldson chose some poignant lines General Lemay states that the air strike would
be able to destroy 90% of the missiles in Cuba, but the President shrugs it off and goes ahead with his
original decision. The director emphasizes JFK s determination to stay with his own original plan,
something that allowed him to lead the country trough this troubled time.
I would like to discuss one interpretation that Donaldson used in the film, dealing with Costner s
character. I wish that Donaldson would have downplayed Kevin Costner s character because he tries
to steal the show, when in reality his character was not that influential in Kennedy s decision making.
There a few times when he takes control of the movie in places that are better left with him in the
background. For

Augmented Reality ( Vr )
Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are taking over our era, with new innovations using
the technology being released everyday. Both have had a sizable play in companies performances, and
have shaped and developed society from the beginning of their release. AR and VR technology take
aspects of the real world and apply it to technology in a three dimensional form, just in different ways.
Despite common misconceptions, these two ideas are not the same. VR is all screen generated work,
only including technological elements in its world that may resemble real life items. AR, on the other
hand, applies these elements to real life items, portraying an image onto an object you physically have
in front of you.
AR has had a specific impact on our society in general. From the Google Glass to the Hololens, it s no

Foreign Affairs And The Pursuit Of Liberty Essay
Foreign Affairs and the Pursuit of Liberty Should America strengthen ties in foreign nations, or remain
neutral when external conflict arises? This question has faced every United States President who has
served, and will continue to stare the chief executive in the face. Whichever way the United States
decides, neutrality or involvement, there are certain pitfalls and triumphs that come from either
decision, but in some incidents the wrong decision can be detrimental. At the start of the nation,
George Washington led the country through times of both involvement and neutrality, eventually
bidding his country a goodbye with his Farwell Address, in which he warned his fellow citizens to
remain neutral if at all possible. As time goes by and the face of war has changes, Washington s advice
may have lost its relevance. In his time, Washington s advice to remain neutral was a word of wisdom,
but as new threats against American liberty arises, the United States President cannot avoid foreign
involvement, but rather engage in it for the sake of the American independence. As President George
Washington addressed his country one last time, he included many warnings in his address. One of
which was the dangers of becoming overly involved in external conflict. The President informs the
people ...nothing is more essential than that permanent, invertebrate antipathies against particular

Essay about Jealousy in Shakespeare s Othello
Jealousy in Shakespeare s Othello
Othello features jealousy as the dominant motive for action and therefore just as reflected in real life
we bare witness to jealousy influencing the characters of Iago, Brabantio, Roderigo, and Othello. In
this essay I shall be attempting to examine this theme in depth drawing comparison between jealousy
and the consequential action.
The dominance of jealousy as the chief causative force of action in the drama is very obvious to most
critics. In William Shakespeare: The Tragedies, Paul A. Jorgensen exposes the main motivation in the
story:
In roundest terms, Othello is a story of raging sexual jealousy prompted apparently by the least

Act 1 Scene 1 opens with an expression of jealousy: Roderigo is upbraiding Iago because of the

?Thou told?st me thou didst hold him in thy hate.?
Iago responds with an expression of jealousy, saying that he does indeed hate the general because he
?Nonsuits my mediators; for, ?Certes,? says he,
?I have already chose my officer.??
With both Roderigo and the ancient spurred on by jealousy, they storm the home of the senator,
Brabantio, and father of Desdemona in a vain effort to have him recover the missing girl. Brabantio is
very jealous of the man who has stolen his daughter because she has been his only companion and
help in the home:
?And what?s to come of my despised time
Is naught but bitterness.?
At the head of his mob, the senator accuses the general of having ?enchanted her? with his sorcery,
and accompanies him to the duke and council. After Othello admits
?That I have ta?en away this old man?s daughter,?
Desdemona confesses that ?here?s my husband,? and these testimonies seem to satisfy the Duke and
council. Consider that we have experienced three serious acts of jealousy in the first three scenes of
the play, as it has misguided Roderigo, Iago and Brabantio. The last dies as a result of his jealous
grief; Gratiano later says to Othello:
?Thy match was mortal to him, and pure grief / Shore his old thread in twain.?

Button Button Analysis
In, Button, Button, the author, Richard Matheson introduces Norma and Arthur Lewis. The button
causes temptations that lead to conflicts between the two characters. In the narrative, Mr. Steward
arrives at the house and tells them about the button. If one of them pushes the button, someone will
die, and they will receive a grand total of $50,000. This causes a dramatic conflict between the two. It
brings the worst out of the two of them, causing jealousy, selfishness, and acquisitiveness. Norma has
to make a decision whether to press the button or not. She contemplates and then eventually to press
the button. Matheson uses dialogue, inner thinking, description, and symbolism to develop the central
conflicts in the story and to accentuate how relationships break off even in the best circumstances.
Richard Matheson uses dialogue to develop conflict in the story. The use of dialogue is utilized to
represent situational irony. In Button, Button the text states:

Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path
Buddhism was different from other religions because it taught that liberation can be obtained from
suffering. This was based on our own lives and efforts. Stated in the book, Living Religions , The
Buddha taught that by understanding how we create suffering for ourselves we can become free
(Fisher 137). This was based on one s own involvement and effort to want happiness. This religion has
been spread throughout Asia and India because of these teachings, this religion became more popular
throughout the countries. For some people this religion was a way of life. After these teachings were
spread throughout the countries, it had developed and picked up other traditions. Buddhism is known
as a non theistic religion, which the traditions are built from other religions. Shakyamuni Buddha was
the founder of Buddhism, he was not a God. Buddha was an historical figure, the stories that have
been told have been passed on over time and not documented. His teachings were not written down
and documented until many years later after his death. The only way these were remembered and can
be trusted is because they were chanted by monks.
The Buddha had came up with Four Noble Truths to be his foundation to his teachings on obtaining
liberation and being free. The first Noble Truth was Life inevitably involves suffering, dissatisfaction,

The Tea Of Tea Ceremony
Chanoyu, in Japanese is commonly known as a tea ceremony in English focuses on self discipline and
refinement of oneself. The tea ceremony symbolizes the ideals of harmony, respect, purity, and
tranquility through preparing for the hosts and drinking tea for the guests. During tea ceremonies, the
hosts creates a once in a lifetime ambiance for the guest something that is within the moment and is
unforgettable. The host prepares the tea using high grade matcha, in hopes to make a satisfying bowl
of tea for the guest. The way of tea is heartwarming and respected amongst the host and guests. Chado
was influenced by Zen Buddhism and has lived on for many generations in the Japanese culture
(Varley Kamakura, 1989). In the 21st century, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of ceremonial matcha green tea and the spread of Chanoyu came from the Genroku epoch
Tokugawa period. Traditions must be met when performing tea ceremonies because it is a craft
symbolism and abstractness lies within chanoyu (Garett Berriault, 2005). Matcha green tea is the
powder used in these tea ceremonies, it must be high grade matcha in order to pass tea ceremonies.
Creating high standards for this tea ceremony ensures the quality that hosts must obtain when
performing this respected tradition. Matcha powder came from the Eisai or Tosai in early Kamakura
period and was transmitted from China but then evolved to chanoyu (tea ceremony) in Japan. During
the postwar era in Japan, non dominant social groups belonged to women (Chan, 2017). Since roles in
tea ceremonies were open to the idea of integrating whoever wanted to participate or wanted to
become a host during the era, the non dominant social groups that belonged to women joined in. With
the integration being in place, this gave women in Japan the opportunity to become hosts to stand with
samurais, in a patriarchal country. Given this opportunity, the women found power in tea ceremonies.
This sparked the women s empowerment movement in postwar Japan because they were being looked
upon as if they were equal and integrated within the community, they were no longer looked at as
homemakers and housewives that belonged in the household (Kato, 2012). Chanoyu defined women s

Commentary On Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card
Ender s game I am currently reading the book Ender s game by, Orson Scott Card. I am really
enjoying this book. This book is exiting, full of action, and does not get boring. This book has a
movie, and I have seen it, so I can relate to the movie as I am reading the book. I really like being able
to relate to the movie as I am reading because if I get confused I can just think back to what happened
in the movie. I have noticed that the main character, Ender and his brother Peter do not get along very
well. I inferred this statement based on the statement, I could kill you like this, Peter whispered. Just
press and press until you re dead. (card12) I am not sure why Ender s brother Peter treats him like an
outsider, but his sister has

The Effects Of The Stock Market Crash Of 1929
It is inevitable that a country will have a continuously fluctuating economy; however, this can
potentially be dangerous when economic growth drops precipitously as it did in 1929. Even today,
there is controversy regarding the causal events leading up to the stock market crash of 1929. The
question most debated is which factor was the greatest contributor to causing the crash? Many think
the answer is simple, for example, unemployment. On the contrary, the answer is quite complex
because there were many interconnected causes. When answering this question, it is first crucial to
analyze the causes of the crash and the causes of the depression that followed the crash. Many people
combine the causes of the stock market crash and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, effective advertising led to more consumer purchases. Consumers were able to purchase
more luxurious items because wages of the urban middle class workers increased. People could afford
mass produced goods like radios, washing machines and cars. This materialistic time period slowly
took a turn for the worst. Various factors began revealing the hidden structural problems of the 1920s.
For one, overproduction became a major problem, as efficiently supplied goods outstripped their
demand. Other problems included income inequality, with only 1% of the population wealthy enough
to invest in stocks. This income gap widened over time; by 1929 the stock market was many times its
value in 1921. Furthermore, easy credit led to growing debt of consumers and companies. Specifically,
people bought stocks on margin while companies took on loans to expand their production. Therefore,
many banks in the U.S grew from small to medium sized, as their loan portfolios increased. The first
sign of trouble in the 1920s was when several rural banks failed, due to farmers failure on agricultural
loans, combined with weak reserve requirements. This developed into a major problem because there
was no lender of last resort addressing the needs of the failing banks. In addition, investors drove up
stock prices even with low earnings per share, in part based on companies unrealistic

Dental Issues Like Gum Disease
Dental issues, like gum disease, do more than just affect your oral health. In fact, research shows that
heart disease and stroke are often associated with gum disease, and while no clear cause and effect
relationship has been proven by doctors just yet, studies show that gum disease directly increases the
risk of developing serious heart conditions. For this reason, the dentists at Kenton Dental Care,
Kenton, Ohio s leading center for family dentistry, say that routine dental exams along with good oral
hygiene habits are essential to fighting off gum disease and keeping your heart healthy.
Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a common condition among adults in the U.S. and
is the infection of the mouth s gum tissue, usually

Essay about Teen Pregnancy
Teen pregnancy is a major problem in the United States. There are significantly more teenage
pregnancies in the United States than all other developing countries (Cleo Moore, 1995). According to
The Complete and Authoritative Guide: Caring for Your Teenager, out of every five women under
twenty, two will become pregnant. Teen pregnancy rates have increased 23% from 1972 to 1990
(Napier, 1997) In order to come to a solution it is important to examine why teenage pregnancy is so
high in the United States. When analyzing teen pregnancy, an effective way to get to the root of the
problem is using the critical component of the sociological imagination. Critically, the two most
prevalent ways to look at teen pregnancy are through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Liberals believe socioeconomic status is a factor in teen pregnancy. They want to put a stop to blaming
the youth. Liberals understand it is time to examine why some teens want to become parents. When
teens don t see a successful future for themselves, getting pregnant isn t that bad of an option. Factors
in teen pregnancy are a perception of unattainable goals, and lack of educational and occupational
prospects, both prevailing in poor communities. Dash (1989) concluded that child rearing provides a
tangible economic and psychological asset for black teens whose future prospects are bleak. There are
more African Americans living in extreme poverty than Latinos and Whites (Ralley, pg#). In the
journal article, Internal Poverty and Teen Pregnancy, the life options model is proposed. The life
options model suggests that, If disadvantaged youths do not perceive that doors are open to them, it is
perhaps difficult for them to see teen pregnancy as closing any doors (Young, Sue Martin, 2001)
Young, Sue Martin (2001) examined adolescent females educational expectations. They found that
females of all races who became pregnant had lower expectations of educational attainment and
likelihood they would graduate high school, compared to their nonpregnant counterpart. There is a
significant amount of evidence that

Questions On Real Estate Essay
A title search will reveal many things about a piece of real estate. It is important that the company or
individual that you use does a complete and thorough evaluation of the property in question.
Ownership The title search will reflect who has a vested interest in the property. This is most likely the
same entity as that shown on the property appraiser s records, however that is not always the case.
This is why it is imperative that you find a knowledgeable individual who will research the public
records and find all parties who have an interest. When previous owners or lien holders either
conveyed their interest(s) out improperly, or simply neglected to get everyone s interests accounted for
when they transferred the property, this creates problems with the title. Sometimes, these interests may
be reflected in individuals who had owned the property several transactions before you purchased it.
Another problem can be created when people die. After an individual is deceased, their will is filed of
record in the state and county (for those in the U.S.) where they lived (are domiciled). This can present
a problem to a searcher who is researching property in another county or state. If they are fortunate,
the attorney who prepared the will knows of all the property owned by their client and will file papers
accordingly to notify all interested persons. This will alert an examiner to research the ownership
further. Encumbrances There are many kinds of encumbrances or

Soccer Memoir
As a young girl, I was introduced to soccer by my father. I think I was about eight at the time when I
first played on a recreational team, and I remember that I had always wanted to play goalkeeper. In
soccer, the goalkeeper is the last defensive player, but is also the first offensive player once the play
turns. The idea of playing such an important position thrilled me, and it didn t hurt that the goalkeeper
gets the opportunity to use their hands as well as punt the ball across the field. From the age of nine
until the age of eleven, I played competitive and recreational soccer as a goalkeeper, and stopped in
the sixth grade. I picked the sport back up as a freshman in high school, after my younger sister had
urged me to join the school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Naturally, however, I got apprehensive in some plays and hesitated or did not move exactly as I should
have, which would usually result in a goal or near shot, but it was not the end of the world. Near the
end of my last season on junior varsity, I was goalkeeping against one of the toughest teams in my
county, and was being hammered by their offense. At one point, I rushed forward to steal the ball from
a forward, hesitated, and collided with the player. The sheer force of two players running towards one
another and crashing jolted me, and I was on the ground, okay but a little confused. The player beside
me struggled to get up, and she could not. I must have been in shock, because I could only sit and
stare as the school trainer hurried over, and an ambulance was called for. She was ultimately taken to
the emergency room, and doctors determined that she had broken both bones in her shin. I was given a
red card, and later a three game suspension as a result, even though the accident had been
unintentional. Something like this had never happened to me, and I was not only dumbfounded, but I
lost a great deal of confidence in myself as a

  • 2. International Trade and Role of Bank International Trade International trade is exchange of capital, goods, and services across international borders or territories. In most countries, it represents a significant share of gross domestic product (GDP). While international trade has been present throughout much of history, its economic, social, and political importance has been on the rise in recent centuries. Industrialization, advanced transportation, globalization, multinational corporations, and outsourcing are all having a major impact on the international trade system. Increasing international trade is crucial to the continuance of globalization. Without international trade, nations would be limited to the goods and services produced within their own borders. Difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For centuries under the belief in mercantilism most nations had high tariffs and many restrictions on international trade. In the 19th century, especially in the United Kingdom, a belief in free trade became paramount. This belief became the dominant thinking among western nations since then. In the years since the Second World War, controversial multilateral treaties have attempted to promote free trade while creating a globally regulated trade structure. These trade agreements have often resulted in discontent and protest with claims of unfair trade that is not beneficial to developing countries A. General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and B. World Trade Organization The regulation of international trade is done through the World Trade Organization at the global level, and through several other regional arrangements such as MERCOSUR in South America, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between the United States, Canada and Mexico, and the European Union between 27 independent states. Risk in International Trade Companies doing business across international borders face many of the same risks as would normally be evident in strictly domestic transactions. ... • 3. The Boy On The Wooden Box Surviving The War Could you ever picture yourself being in one of the World Wars? Well, neither did Leon Leyson. I chose the novel The Boy On The Wooden Box for my independent reading project. The book is about a young boy surviving through a killer war. Leon was a Holocaust survivor and the youngest boy on Schindler s List. Leon wrote the book The Boy On The Wooden Box in 2013, with the help of Marilyn J. Harran and Elisabeth B. Leyson, sixty four years after Leon arrived in the United States. World War Two affected millions of people and it is very important that stories from the war are shared. In the beginning of the war Leon and his family lived in Kraków, Poland. Leon had four siblings, their names were: Hershel, Tsalig, David, and Pesza. Leon came from a jewish family, which would not work in their favor during the Holocaust. Once the war started Leon and his family were transferred into the ghetto. The ghetto was a fenced in minature town, that was made by the Germans and was placed in the center of Kraków. All of the Jews were forced to live in the ghetto. After the war Pesza and David moved to Czechoslovakia, Israel, while Leon and his parents immigrated to America. Leon and his parents spent years in a United Nations relief organization camp in Germany while waiting to go to America. The camp was for Jews who were trying to make it to the United States, after the war ended. At the camp Leon changed his name from Leib Lejzon to the American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of Death Of A Moth By Virginia Woolf In ¨The Death of a Moth¨ by Virginia Woolf, Woolf writes about how she observes a moth´s death. Throughout the essay Woolf had a complex attitude towards the moth. In order to establish her depressing, hopeless, and desperate tone, she uses symbolism, imagery, juxtaposition, and syntax. Virginia Woolf utilized imagery to make the reader comprehend that the moth´s battle with death was homogeneous to her battle with her bipolar tendencies and depression. In the fourth paragraph, ¨He was trying to resume his dancing, but seemed either so stiff or so awkward.....and when he tried to fly across it he failed,¨ Woolf illustrates the struggle of the moth. The moth makes many attempts to fly again, but it unfortunately fails. This makes the reader ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Victor And Walton In Frankenstein Robert Walton, an explorer, and Victor Frankenstein are the two characters in Frankenstein; Or, the Modern Prometheus who both represent the European elite, as well as display poor moral characteristics. Although he is not described explicitly as a member of the European elite, Walton is still considered as member of upper class European society because he is rich. In his first letter to his sister Margaret, Walton describes how he got rich, I inherited the fortune of my cousin (Shelley 52). • 6. The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson Essay The Lottery , by Shirley Jackson is a short story about a disturbing social practice in a village. Besides, there were about three hundred citizens in the small village where the setting took place. The introduction of the lottery is about an event that takes place every year on 27th in the month of June, where the community members of this tradition organize a lottery. Everyone in the village including small children to adults is expected to participate. Besides, when this story was introduced at the very first in 1948 by Shirley Jackson, many people were upset. Besides, Jackson mentions the children assembled first, of course. School was recently over for the summer and the feeling of liberty at uneasily on most of them. (pg. 194). Here Jackson was arguing that how the lottery was very barbaric ritual and the traditions beliefs has become a normal thing among the villagers. Further, the children even know what the lottery is about. This therefore proves how barbaric this village. In addition, modern societies today do not allow their children to participate in such events of violence and murderous acts. Comparing the time period of those days to today, many of the traditions and rituals that took place in the lottery has almost been demolished. Besides, there are traditions today that practice stoning a person to death in public. One of them is the Islamic religion. In some Muslim countries governed by shari ah law, stoning is practiced. Among of them are Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and United Arab Emirates (UAE). Furthermore, beginning of year 2002, announced were four stoning verdicts against women in Islamic states. One in Pakistan and Sudan and two were in Nigeria. This punishment of stoning was charged for adultery. According to Azlan Reza, recently Nigeria has practiced this punishment for crimes of sodomy and adultery. • 7. Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Ronald Reagan Two hundred and nine thousand. That is the number of lives that were nobly given to save the many during the invasion of Normandy (D day and the Battle of Normandy). The courageous men and women fought continuously for days on end, climbing the jagged cliffs of Normandy, France. Under rifle fire from gun nests from above, the allied troops were able to take control of the coastline, but not without great sacrifice. The speech given by Ronald Reagan was made to commemorate those who fearlessly fought for our country and the many thousands that gave their lives during those hard days of war. His speech had a clear message, to honor and remember those who gave and risked their lives during the invasion of Normandy. Logos is can be seen frequently in this speech. You were young the day you took these cliffs; some of you were hardly more than boys, with the deepest joys of life before you. Yet, you risked everything here. Why? Why did you do it? What impelled you to put aside the instinct for self preservation and risk your lives to take these cliffs? What inspired all the men of the armies that met here? We look at you, and somehow we know the answer. It was faith and belief; it was loyalty and love. (Reagan). He answers his questions with love and loyalty for their families and their country. • 8. The Sacred Language of Toni Morrison Essay The Sacred Language of Toni Morrison Toni Morrison makes a good point when, in her acceptance speech upon receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature, she says, Narrative . . . is . . . one of the principal ways in which we absorb knowledge (7). The words we use and the way in which we use them is how we, as humans, communicate to each other our thoughts, feelings, and actions and therefore our knowledge of the world and its peoples. Knowledge is power. In this way, our language, too, is powerful. In her acceptance speech, Morrison tries to communicate the idea that we must be careful with how we use our words. She analogizes the use of language to the life of a metaphoric bird in a tale of a wise, old, blind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout her speech, Toni Morrison works towards defining and supporting this thesis of responsibility. It is our responsibility, as users of words, to make language thrive. Elizabeth Fox Genovese has a similar goal, but takes a different approach in her essay The Claims of a Common Culture: Gender, Race, Class and the Canon. She speaks on the use and composition of the canon taught in humanities classes. Her idea is that the canon of today is much too one sided and does not include the influence of the several different cultures, peoples, and ideas that make up our society. She says that with respect to representativeness, the canon fails woefully. It represent[s] a small, sometimes minute, portion of the elite, which itself constitute[s] a statistical minority of the population (Fox Genovese 19). In this abstract way, Fox Genovese is reiterating Morrison s words that what we say, and how we say it (or teach it), or what we fail to say (as in the canon taught today) is monumentally influencing and impactful upon others. If we are not aware of the words that come out of our mouths due to lack of thought or attention, we all suffer and we are all at fault: When language dies, out of carelessness, disuse, indifference, and absence of esteem, or killed by fiat, . . . all users and makers are accountable for its demise (Morrison 14 15). Levy displayed all the characteristics of a powerful and effective leader by embracing intellectual stimulation, individual consideration, and charisma which enabled him to lead them through the crisis. The Department of Medicine was responsible for coming up with a plan to resolve the issue, and had yet to take action in implementing their new plan. Levy addressed this in a staff meeting, direct at the head of the Department, in front of everyone. He said that in order to get anything done, you need a champion, periodic reporting, and corrective actions. This put peer pressure on the Department of Medicine to produce results, singling them out as aware of an issue although they had not yet taken action. This is a lesson on how to organize things to get things done. He was also motivating other to follow suit and start implementing improvements in their departments. For starters, I normally offer myself a full body reiki session at the end of the day and offer myself mini sessions throughout the day (or whenever I find myself uneasy and ungrounded). It allows me to center and ground myself in the Now instead of allowing myself feel trapped by fear. I find that reiki allows me to bring out the best of me. I also enjoy offering myself the energy before doing an oracle/tarot reading. I find the readings come out clearer and sometimes nearly laughable (at least it is how I feel). For example, I was giving myself a reading with my Zen cards and my question was in regards to my past life. The first card I drew was past life. This gave ... Reiki was this factor that allowed me to open my eyes to really see. Not in the physical sense, but from the heart. And because of this, I understand with patience and gratitude, I was able to manifest and connect with energies around me. The more grateful I was the quicker manifesting became. Since last year, I began to develop a better understanding of energies and how they mirror your vibration. Example: A few months ago, I found myself not wanting to be at work anymore and felt such pain/resistance being there. I realized my relationship with my supervisor had become tense and in a way it was disheartening since I was not sure what changed in our dynamic. I placed this question upon the universe and began to send her distant reiki. I used what I learned in reiki II to clear the office space as well. I focused a lot on my intent to help her and to find gratitude for working with Girls Inc. of NYC. A few weeks later, she spoke to me about her issues with our CEO and how she realized we were not the same team anymore. I was surprised she realized it, since it seemed she did not notice or mind the change. People put it upon themselves when they become addicted, but unfortunately, there is a lack of support when an addiction becomes a lifestyle. Awareness is the main attack for the battle of substance abuse and sadly, most people are blind to the fact of how serious addiction can be. Educating youth on the consequences of doing drugs and consuming alcohol is the most significant way to ensure they make smart choices. For the people who are already suffering the evil, a strong support system must be implemented in their lives. Obviously, 12 step programs are active all across America today, but is it enough? It took until 1908 for the first Model T to roll out of a factory. It is a provincial viewpoint that has been around since Ecclesiastes (1:9) that we have reached the pinnacle of our technological game and yet as each new paradigm rolls to a close and our imaginations are saturated with the reality of the world we begin to question whether or not this is the time that the future will end. If it is true that we are a species that is destined to continue our path of unrestrained growth then it follows that w must be the first to reach such a place. Most non conspiracy solutions to the Fermi Paradox lie on similar veins to The Great Filter saying that their is a point that technological advances can reach before a society collapses on itself and that is why we have seen no evidence of other alien life. But Kurzweil makes bold claims that seem to disagree with this theory. The possibility that an undying intelligent form could exist means that it is likely they would and probably have colonized the galaxy by going from planet to plant mining resources. Von Neumann probes as they are called would be incredibly efficient power generators as, if they were equipped with solar panels, they could act as a sort of dyson swarm to maximize energy collection. BC has been considered as an alternative biomaterial since it possesses superior qualities to other cellulose. BC exhibits many unique characteristics which are different from those of other plant celluloses Biocellulose has chemical and physical properties that are superior to the properties of plant derived cellulose. Compared to plant cellulose, the nanofibril network of biocellulose has interesting properties such as excellent water holding capacity, high degree of polymerization, high crystallinity, high purity, good biocompatibility, and excellent mechanical properties. Therefore, due to its many unique properties, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cost of the fermentation medium represents a critical aspect of the commercial production of biocellulose. The cheaper substrate used instead of the commonly used sugars as glucose or fructose might result in a lower cost of the final product. In this context, two algal substrates have been tested such as green alga (U. lactuca) and sea grass (P. oceanic). Data confirmed that P. oceanic was the best substrate in medium HSPO supporting the highest production of biocellulose (5.7 g/l). Carbohydrates are the major component of seagrass and seaweeds (ca. 50 70% on a dry basis) (Uchida, 2011), containing mostly polysaccharides to construct algal tissue. For example, brown algae contain alginate and fucoidan as major components. Red algae contain galactan (e.g. agar, carrageenan) as a major component. Seagrasses and green algae contain hemicellulose and cellulose as major components. These major algal polysaccharides are known to be unfavorable substrates for fermentation. This may be one of the reasons why algal fermentation technology has yet to be developed. Recently, seaweed could be used as a substrate for lactic acid and ethanol fermentation, provided that the algal tissue was saccharified with cellulase enzymes. This finding opened the possibility of obtaining foods and related items from algal fermentation (Uchida, 2002; Uchida and Murata, 2002; Uchida and Murata, 2004). According to all these advances in algal fermentation, we suggest that there is a great possibility of creating a new medium for industrial biocellulose production by G. xylinus using algal fermentation technology in the near ... There is the possibility that Timken can lose its BBB investment grade rating. This is due to Timken taking on the $800 million in debt it needs to purchase Torrington. The change in the company s debt composition will change ratios such as debt to capital which is used to determine the investment grade rating. Compared to other industrial firms, Timken shows relatively high sales numbers ($279.4 million) as well EBITDA figures ($275.7 million). According to table 3 (p. 4), only three ratios will change as taking on the $800 million in debt. The second ratio is EBITDA Interest Coverage Ratio, which drops from 4.3 to 3.14 and investment rating scale falls from BBB to B. The third one is Total Debt/Capital Ratio, which increases from 43 percent to 67 percent and drives the rating from BB to B. • 18. A Study On Oral History Assignment Oral History Assignment For this assignment, I had chosen to interview my uncle, Atif. He is 43 years old, married with four children, and currently resides in the Greater Toronto Area. He was born in Karachi, Pakistan where he lived in an extended family with his parents, brothers sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and their kids. He had moved to Canada on October 26th 1990, by himself, to fulfill his undergraduate degree at the University of Manitoba in Computer Science and Math. He is now working at CGI as a Professional IT Manager. He describes himself as introverted, responsible, independent, hard working, driven, logical and analytical. This is evident throughout his interview, as he had a very analytical approach on observing advertisements. While Atif was growing up back in Pakistan, advertising was a lot less relevant because of where he was, who he was and how he interacted with the media. Firstly, there was only one channel that ran on TV from 5pm until 11pm. Though, only on Sundays, the channel started from early mornings. There were no 24 hour broadcasts. Very select commercials appeared on TV, that too mostly for necessity items. One that he remembers fondly is a commercial for toothpaste. What attracted Atif about this commercial was its catchy jingle. Mclain s Toothpaste! Did you Mclain your teeth today? The kids then would chant back Twice a day, every day! Wicca and Wiccan Practitioners Essay Wicca one of the most recognizable pagan religions today in the USA and Great Britain is also unfortunately, like many pagan religions, still greatly misunderstood by the general population: mainly due to the media s often inaccurate or highly skewed presentation of Wicca and Wiccan practitioners. This inaccurate depiction of Wicca and Wiccans often leads to people lumping Wiccans together with occultists and Satanists and all the negative connotations that surround those words. Luckily, Wiccans are neither occultist nor Satanists. Instead Wiccans are part witch part pagans whose unique beliefs, traditions, and practices set them apart from other witches and pagans. However, this does not mean we are all witches; in order to be a witch one must self identify as a witch. Other types of magic can include healing, protection, divination, etc. Also it is important to note that while all Wiccans are witches, not all witches are Wiccans as witches can be of any faith. Another key aspect of being a Wiccan is being a pagan or neopagan. As defined by Prudence Jones from the Pagan Federation International, pagan is a term used to describe a follower of a polytheistic or pantheistic nature worshipping religion, while neopagan is a term used to describe those whose religions, as Eric A. Powell states in his article Solstice at the Stones, consist of modern beliefs inspired by ancient religious practices (36). According to Jones, the term neopagan is also used to describe all those [religions] who are recognisably [sic] Pagan, but who do not adhere to any of the standard [pagan] traditions. However, since most pagans today are actually neopagans as Powell explains, modern pagans are more interested in evolving and cultivating their own practices rather than trying to emulate traditional, ancient practices (41) often neopagans are simply referred to as pagans. According Jones, besides finding nature sacred, many pagan religions are polytheistic with many believing in at least a god and a goddess. Again it is important to note that while all Wiccans are pagans, not all pagans are Wiccans. For example, according to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everyone alive lives in some kind of little world of their own. There is the celebrity world, the Disney World, Wally world , lots of different sports worlds, scholastic worlds, and so many others. There is a particular world that some live in, and that is the World of Dance. When you are a part of that world, you literally live and breathe it. Every aspect of the dance culture is wrapped up in that world. To those looking in from the outside it is beautiful, filled with lights, lovely costumes, mesmerizing music, and graceful movements. Perhaps the very first image the general public would see in their mind s eye, upon hearing the word dancer , is that of a darling little five year old girl in a pretty pink tutu and delicate ballet slippers stepping into her local dance studio for the first time. Take someone a little deeper into that thought, and they might see an overly thin, pale sixteen year old young woman, with collarbones and ribs showing working herself almost to death to earn a minor part in a dance chorus. Suggest that someone describe a dancer in the height of their career, and you might hear of a Prima Ballerina with the Moscow Ballet. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Character Analysis When Stieg Larsson s novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, hit the bookshelves, it was swiftly heralded as one of Sweden s finest, and most popular crime novels to date. Published posthumously after Larsson s death, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is an intricately designed and darkly ironic piece of crime fiction. It must be emphasized, however, that it is indeed a work of Scandinavian crime fiction, and is thereby subject to the clichés and to the common characteristics of other Scandinavian crime fiction novels. The best way to chart these similarities is through the guidance of Bo Tao Michäels 10 Commandments of Scandinavian Crime Fiction. To best articulate this point, this thesis will focus on one of the ten commandments the equality between genders and will analyze its function within The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. One will find that Larsson s novel not only fits seamlessly with the parameters of Michäels commandments, but that it also expands one s notion of gender and characterization in Scandinavian crime fiction. ... The problem that Lai brings to our attention is that it is a struggle to be an Asian in America due to the fact that Asians have been denied political, economic and social equality in America. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have also noticed that there are very few Asian politicians, as well as very few women politicians, within our culture. I do not know if this problem stems from Asian Americans not having a historical/authoritative figure like Dr. Martin Luther King representing African Americans, and Susan B. Anthony representing woman s rights to vote. However, I do know that Asians do not receive the same types of opportunities as others because they have been stereotyped for so long as being inferior. In addition, I feel that the reason why Asians may be seen as inferior individuals is because they were one of the last cultures to start a movement for equality that was inspired by other ethnic cultures. Because of this somewhat late movement, our culture has not been able to adapt to this change, like our culture has not adapted to women being paid the same as men. Lai brought to my attention that Asians are claimed to value education more than other minorities and Asians are said to have special intellectual affinities for math and science. Lai proceeded to raise the point that this is a racist rationale because this is implying that other cultures are not able to succeed in this type of area. This aquifer provides water for uses of irrigation and drinking water for eight of the fifty states which are South Dakota, Texas, Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, and Wyoming. Since this aquifer spans over a vast area, it is considered the largest in the United States. Also, because this aquifer passes through eight different states, each state has a different policy about how each said state should handle the conservation of the ground water that provides water to nearly 2.3 million people, and because it covers such a large area over agricultural land, most of the water is used in irrigating the crops for 30 percent of the United States (Dennehy, 2013). This question has faced every United States President who has served, and will continue to stare the chief executive in the face. The Effects Of The Stock Market Crash Of 1929 It is inevitable that a country will have a continuously fluctuating economy; however, this can potentially be dangerous when economic growth drops precipitously as it did in 1929. Even today, there is controversy regarding the causal events leading up to the stock market crash of 1929. The question most debated is which factor was the greatest contributor to causing the crash? Many think the answer is simple, for example, unemployment. On the contrary, the answer is quite complex because there were many interconnected causes. When answering this question, it is first crucial to analyze the causes of the crash and the causes of the depression that followed the crash. Consumers were able to purchase more luxurious items because wages of the urban middle class workers increased. People could afford mass produced goods like radios, washing machines and cars. This materialistic time period slowly took a turn for the worst. Various factors began revealing the hidden structural problems of the 1920s. For one, overproduction became a major problem, as efficiently supplied goods outstripped their demand. Other problems included income inequality, with only 1% of the population wealthy enough to invest in stocks. This income gap widened over time; by 1929 the stock market was many times its value in 1921. Furthermore, easy credit led to growing debt of consumers and companies. Specifically, people bought stocks on margin while companies took on loans to expand their production. Therefore, many banks in the U.S grew from small to medium sized, as their loan portfolios increased. The first sign of trouble in the 1920s was when several rural banks failed, due to farmers failure on agricultural loans, combined with weak reserve requirements. This developed into a major problem because there was no lender of last resort addressing the needs of the failing banks. • 53. Questions On Real Estate Essay A title search will reveal many things about a piece of real estate. It is important that the company or individual that you use does a complete and thorough evaluation of the property in question. Ownership The title search will reflect who has a vested interest in the property. This is most likely the same entity as that shown on the property appraiser s records, however that is not always the case. This is why it is imperative that you find a knowledgeable individual who will research the public records and find all parties who have an interest. When previous owners or lien holders either conveyed their interest(s) out improperly, or simply neglected to get everyone s interests accounted for when they transferred the property, this creates problems with the title. Sometimes, these interests may be reflected in individuals who had owned the property several transactions before you purchased it. Another problem can be created when people die. After an individual is deceased, their will is filed of record in the state and county (for those in the U.S.) where they lived (are domiciled). This can present a problem to a searcher who is researching property in another county or state. If they are fortunate, the attorney who prepared the will knows of all the property owned by their client and will file papers accordingly to notify all interested persons. This will alert an examiner to research the ownership further. Encumbrances There are many kinds of encumbrances or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
