Introduction :
Electrical wiring in general refers to insulated conductors used to
carry electricity and associated
devices . general aspects of electrical wiring are used to provide power
in to building and structures
Commonly referred as building wiring.

installed and maintained in such a way it will provide safety to person
and properly this requires
Good workmanship , knowledge of electrical principles and circuitry .
Familiarity with electrical wiring
Accessories is an important provision beside an awareness of and strict
adherence to the provisions

1) Durability :- Type of wiring selected should conform to standard specifications ,

2) Safety :- The wiring must provide safety against leakage , shock and fire hazards
For the operating personnel.
3) Appearance :- Electrical wiring should give anesthetic appeal to the interiors.
4) Cost :- It should not be prohibitively expensive.
5) Accessibility :- The switches and plug points provided should be easily accessible .
There must be provision for further extension of the wiring system , if necessary .
6) Maintenance Cost :- The maintance cost should be a minimum .

Cleat wiring
cleat wiring is one of the cheapest wiring considering the initial cost and labor ,
And is most suitable for temporary wiring, this wiring can be quickly installed easily
Inspected and altered when not required when not required, this wiring could be dismantled
Without damage to the cables cleats and accessories.
All cleats shall consists of two parts , a base peace and cap. Cleats shall be fixed at distance
Not more than 60cm apart and at regular intervals. where cleat wiring is laid along an iron
joist, , porcelain cleats shall be inserted either with varnished wood clamps
Advantages of cleat wiring
• It is simple and cheap wiring system
• Most suitable for temporary use i.e. under construction building or army camping
• As the cables and wires of cleat wiring system is in open air , therefore fault in cables
can be seen and repair easily .
• Cleat wiring system installation is easy and simple .
• Customization can be easily done in this wiring system . e.g. alteration and addition .
• Inspection is easy and simple .
Disadvantages of cleat wiring
• Appearance is not so good .
•Cleat wiring can’t be use for permanent use because , sag may be occur after
sometime of the usage .
•In this wiring system , the cables and wiring is in open air , therefore , oil , steam ,
humidity smoke , rain , chemical and acidic effect may damage the cables and wires .
•It can be only used on 250/440 volts on low temperature .
•There is always risk of fire and electric shock .
•It can’t used in important and sensitive location and places .
•It is not reliable and sustainable wiring system .
Casing and capping wiring
This system of wiring is suitable for low voltage insulation , in this wiring
cables like vulcanized rubber, insulated cable& or plastic insulated cables are
used and carried within the wood casing enclosures . The wood casing wiring system
shall not be use in damp places, unless suitable precaution are taken.
A rectangular strip of wood called capping having some width as that of casing
is fixed over it . Both the casing and the capping are screwed together at every 15 cam
casing is attached to the wall .
Advantages of casing and capping
• It is cheap wiring system as compared to sheathed and conduit wiring system .
•It is strong and long lasting wiring systems .
•If phase neutral wire is installed in separate slots , then repairing is easy .
•Stay for long time in the field due to strong insulation of capping and casing .
•No risk of fire and good protection against mechanical injury .
•Shock –proof with proper earthling and bonding .
•Water proof and trouble shooting is easy
Disadvantages of capping and casing
•There is high risk of fire in casing and capping system
•Not suitable in the acidic ,alkaline , and humidity condition .
•Costly repairing and need more material .
•Material can not be found easily in the contemporary .
In this system PVC (polyvinyl-chloride)or VIR cables are run through metallic or VIR
Or PVC pipe providing good protection against mechanical injury and fire due to
short circuit. They are either embedded inside the walls or support over the walls ,
and are known as connected wiring or surface conduct wiring ( open conduit)
respectively. The conduits are buried inside the walls on wooden gutted and the
wires are drawn through them with fish (wire) the system is best suit for public
buildings, industries and workshops .
Advantages :
(1) No risk of fire and good protection against mechanical injury.
(2) The lead and return wires can carried in the same tube.
(3) Earthling and continuity is assured
(4) Waterproof and trouble shooting is easy.
(5) Shocks-proof with proper earthling and bounding.

Metallic Conducting :-
Metallic conduits are made up steel which are very strong but costly as well as two types
I. Class (A) conduits :- Low gauge Conduits (thin layer sheet steel conduits )
II. Class (B) Conduits :- High gauge conduits (thick sheet of steel conduits )
Non-metallic conducting :-
A solid PVC conduit is used as non-metallic conduit now a day , which is
