replenished on a human timescale such
as fossil fuels , uranium etc.
 Renewable resources
◦ It is defined as the energy that comes
from resources which are naturally
replenished on a human timescale such
as sunlight,wind,rain,tides,waves and
geothermal heat.
MERITS OF NON CONVENTIONAL
ENERGY SOURCES
 These are available in nature free of
cost.
 They produce no or very little pollution.
Hence they are environment friendly.
 They are inexhaustible.
 They have low gestation period.
DEMERITS OF NON CONVENTIONAL
ENERGY SOURCES
 In general the energy is available in
dilute form from these sources.
 Though available freely in nature, the
cost of harnessing energy from non-
conventional sources is generally high.
 Availability is uncertain; the energy flow
depends on various natural phenomena
beyond human control.
 Difficulty in transporting such form of
energy.
