This document discusses renewable energy opportunities and policies in the OSCE region. 15. What it costs?

16. • Morocco: National Energy Strategy calls for generating 42% of its electricity
production from renewables by 2020, and 52% by 2030.
• Gambia: Increase the country’s electricity capacity by one-fifth partly through
construction of one of the largest photovoltaic plants in West Africa and
restoring 10,000 hectares of forests, mangroves, and savannahs
• India: Investing more in renewables than in fossil fuels and targets to reach 40%
of its power from renewables by 2030
• Costa Rica: aims for its electricity production to be 100% renewable by 2021 (in
2018 it generated 98%), extended a moratorium on oil extraction until the end
of 2050
• European Union: sets a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by
2020; Paris target – 40% reduction by 2030. Formally adopted into law a series
of measures that included a binding target for 32% of electricity production to
come from renewables by 2030.
