With COVID-19, most nonprofits were thrust into the new and uncertain world of virtual events. But as these organizations turn their attention from these immediately impacted spring events to future programs scheduled for summer and fall, they have the opportunity to flip the switch from “reactive” to “strategic.” And virtual events can even benefit and enhance your peer to peer program in the long-term!
Join us as we introduce our newest product offering — Boundless Motion! Learn how Charity Dynamics is bringing the power of activity tracking to mobile fundraising to create a virtual event experience that can drive donor & fundraiser engagement in the months ahead… and even beyond the Coronavirus Pandemic.

If you aren’t sure what those best practices are, here is a cheat sheet of the steps and key considerations to help frame the conversation around virtualizing your fundraising
There have been plenty of webinars walking you through these what why and hows – but if you have questions please make sure to add them into the chat window!
Our second biggest problem we here is h
Great question, Meghan!
What we’ve done at charity dynamics is targeted some impact fundraising ideas just to help with this problem!
Our first idea is around impact vs. dollar. We all know how good it feels when you realize what your dollar has brought to the table for a nonprofit. Imagine being able to do this for your donors and your participants through a specific user flow. This is a great way to allow your fundraisers and donors have an experience that further connects them with your mission! So instead of a supporter selecting a dollar amount, they choosing something symbolic to give to the nonprofit – and learns right away what their impact will be towards your mission. And bonus – it’s visually shown right there on the screen.
Let’s talk through to great examples in the world today to show you what we mean by impact vs. dollar.
When Operation Smile wanted to create their new DIY program, one thing that we discussed was making sure to put the value of a smile up front and center. We flipped the “goal” amount on its head.
Instead of asking the standard question of “what is your fundraising goal? We turned the process on its head by allowing the fundraiser to enter the number of smiles they want to contribute to Operation Smile’s mission. So if I put in 20 smiles, I get to see that my goal is $4,800. Talk about impactful! I get to see up front how many smiles = $ by the small caption, but I get to play and see, what if I want to do 20 smiles? What about 30? The API is doing all the work for me as a participant, but the effect is huge.
Another great idea is a gift catalog so that your supporters can pick what they can contribute, once again, to your mission. Instead of just having donation levels, and making your audience think about what they want to contribute, let’s turn it on its head to talk to what that donation level means to your mission.
Charity Dynamics can help you strategize around what is a symbolic representation and make a catalog of virtual items your supporters can purchase in honor of your mission.
One organization that does this so well is Heifer International. Their program showcases a catalog of animals that you can purchase for different communities around the world. They even take it up a step by allowing those who can’t afford to give an entire alpaca to just give a share of one. How great is this? Not only are they showcasing what is the impact, they are making it tangible for any supporter to be a part of that impact.
Onto our third impact vs. dollar idea. This is a great one too!
We’ve all seen the images that are made up of hundreds of individual photos that then build to create one cohesive image – an online mosaic. What if you had this mosaic idea on your site to represent the vastness of the community supporting your mission.
We’d allow a participant who is joining your event to upload a photo to contribute to this overall visual representation of the community who is a part of this event.
As each participant registers and then adds their image, it shows them that they’re part of a larger community or movement and they play an important role in making up the reason for this event.
For our next idea – we all know how everyone loves those goodie bags they get at an event. No need to throw this idea to the way side – how about having a virtual good bag that not only acts as an incentive, but can act as an educational tool around your sponsors and your mission?
This can be a goodie bag they get for participating or as they reach certain goals, they get digital, downloadable goodies, like banners for Facebook or a great background they can use on their Zoom calls.
We can even take it one step further for them to see what rewards they’ve received for their fundraising efforts – raised $100? You get a tshirt! The goodie bag acts as a way to have an interactive, fun way to hand over items to teach and engage your participants.
Our third problem we hear about is how do we make the world of “virtual” more fun and meaningful?
While data shows that users of Charity Dynamics’ Boundless Fundraising mobile app raise 3x’s as much as non-users and receive 3x’s as many gifts as non-users, there are many additional unique features we can create to surprise and delight users even more in this virtual world.
---
Given some or all 2020 events may go virtual due to the global pandemic, the mitigation strategy includes an emphasis on enhancing the program’s current mobile app
In a more virtual-centric environment, leading with a mobile-first strategy makes sense to best meet the primary audience – where they are at and increase engagement so it’s beyond just fundraising
Beyond Channel Choices — Via the app, your organization can offer participants a variety of choices for how they connect with potential donors: email, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and texting.
Set It and Forget It — In 2018, nearly 20% of participants liked planning for messaging within the app and letting the system send messages automatically through LinkedIn or Twitter.
Productivity Booster — At the end of the day, Boundless Fundraising helps your fundraisers be as efficient as possible. The Boundless Fundraising app is a quicker way for them to update their page, their goal, personalize their photo, and share their page with any friend or loved one. With a few taps, they can update their story as often as they'd like, as well as quickly upload a photo from their mobile phone's photo album. No need for them to save an image to their desktop computer, resize, and then upload within their fundraising center. Total time saver.
A New Way to Communicate with your Users — Having a mobile app allows you to use push notifications to send instant and nonintrusive notifications to your participants. With so much noise coming from social media, email, and texts, this is a great way to grab your participants’ attention. When you add efficiency with the power of an app, you have a powerhouse of possibilities in fundraising.
Which brings us to another great way to target your audience for better engagement while they use their Boundless Fundraising mobile app!
Unveling - tah dah! Boundless Fundraising PLUS. This is the same great app that P2P programs know so well, but with a few added bonus features to really bring your mission to life in inspiring and meaningful ways.

Translate the celebratory energy of in-person events to the mobile experience
Bring your mission to life in inspiring, meaningful, and educational ways
Delight the user at every turn to maximize engagement and loyalty to the program
Take your mobile app to the next level with engaging visuals, content that is dynamic and helps motivate your participants to take their fundraising to the next level
Our first idea is Announcement screens
You’ve probably seen these when you first download any app – they are usually used to welcome you and give you some details of the features within the app.
Now, you have these available to you to use with Boundless Fundraising PLUS!
Announcement screens can be used to notify participants of new features, best practices and find additional motivation for fundraising
Can be triggered beyond just that first time a user goes to the app – you can push an announcement screen to push an important update between a date range
Add logos, frames, tutus, wigs, glasses, pets and more via real-time filters so users share in social media for their fundraising ask
Bring a little dynamic content into the app by having a social media gallery!
Additional placement opportunities for your corporate sponsors within the mobile app for increased impressions and value
Integrate corporate sponsor logos on app homepage both at the national and/or local levels
Provide content such as mission focused push notifications brought to you by corporate sponsor
But Kathy, what do we do when our participants miss the action of an event?
