The Rise of Papacy
The rise of the papacy came at a time when the Roman Empire collapsed and there was chaos as it
related to the bishops who held office in Rome and what religion would be at the forefront of the
representation of the west or east of Rome since its demise. The term papacy (papatus), meant to
distinguish the Roman bishop s office from all bishoprics (episcopatus), and The Head of the
Roman Catholic Church the pope is considered the successor of Peter and the vicar of Christ
(Elwell, p. 888). The pope is a terms of endearment which means father and this was the title of the
most important and influential bishops in the early church. The church at Rome nevertheless

He used the income from various estates to pay the barbarians and he gave the churches,
hospitals and schools. Pope Gregory I actively intervened in the affairs of other bishops by
settling disputes which help elevate the Church of Rome back into the divine order and prestige
of Papacy as the ruler of the city Rome. Pope Gregory had a heart of humility because he saw so
Barbarian slaves in the Roman market and he sent Augustine Hippo to England to help them from
bondage. By him sending Augustine it broke the chains and traditions of most popes in office and
this was another way that the Papacy s authority had increased in power and direct authority over
missionaries and their territories. He is counted as one of the Church Fathers like Jerome,
Augustine, an Ambrose. He has written books and a Gregorian chant. He is the epitome of what
leadership in Rome and abroad looks like.
Charlemagne and the Carolingians inherited land that retained some of the attributes of Roman
administration, specifically laws and systems of taxation. The Frankish culture was not urban and
as a result in the early Middle Ages we see a general decline of urban life.
The reign of Charlemagne (742 814) was that of a transition from classical to medieval
civilization. Charlemagne ruled the Frankish kingdom from 771 814 which is and was a forty
years span because of the European expansion and the growth of people living in this area. His

Jack Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis
Effective leaders need to be flexible, and must adapt themselves according to the situation. The
book Lord of the Flies by William Golding is about a group of british boys that get stranded on a
island and they have to figure how a way to govern themselves. Jack s effective leadership
throughout the novel led to great triumph.
First I will talk about my first piece of evidence about how Jack is an effective leader. He d never
have gotten us meat. He isn t a prefect and we don t know anything about him. He just gives
orders and expects people to obey for nothing. (Golding,PDF, 98) This quote shows that Ralph
wouldn t of done anything to hunt for meat for the boys on the island like Jack did. Ralph only
worried about keeping the fire alive to have them get rescued, and not about hunting for food to
stay alive. Also, you can t just expect people to do orders when you don t have anything to give
them in return. Jack gave the other boys meat when he gave them orders. By Jack giving the ...

a good leader. Ralph is making the other boys scared of the beast, but Jack is getting the boys
excited to go and do something about the beast. Like a good leader would do in this situation.
Jack doesn t want the boys to be scared of the beast anymore, so he gets them to come with him
so they can face their fears, and not be scared anymore of the beast. Jack s leadership is getting to
the boys, since Jack has natural leadership and can hunt, and can protect

Examples Of Irony In Open The Window
In the two short stories, Like the Sun and Open the Window there is irony and paradox hidden
within them both . Paradox is when a statement or phrase cancels out another sentence . For
example , I ate no pizza , but I had a piece . Irony is when you say something that references
something else . For example , a person doesn t know that there is a scary clown outside, but the
audience or reader does .
The first paradox is in the story Like the Sun . The main paradox in this story is you are suppose to
tell people the truth, but if you do it can cause many conflicts, than if you just say nothing and nod
. In the story, Sekhar was asked if he heard about the death of a character, if it was a pity . The
other man replied and said how nice

1.Explain the structure of neurons. How do neurons communicate with each other? How does the
Endocrine system communicate?
A neuron consists of a cell body, axon and dendrites. The cell body has a neuron, which is the
control centre that controls and regulates the activities of the neuron. The dendrites are extending in
a branch formation, projecting out from the cell body, which receives nerve impulses. The nerves
travels down the axon until it reaches the synapse, which are the gap between two neurons. The
nerve impulse must be converted into a neurotransmitter to be received by the other neuron
triggering an electrical impulse.
With the endocrine system, messages are sent into the bloodstream by hormones, which amplify the
signal to the whole body. Only the cells with the correct receptors will activate.
2.Describe the Peripheral Nervous System and explain the two systems involved in work/exercise
and rest.
The peripheral nervous system consists of nerves that branch out from the brain and the spinal cord.
It has two components, the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. The
somatic nervous system is made up of nerves that connect to voluntary skeletal muscles and to

The, The Ancient Olympics, By Nigel Spivey
In the monograph, The Ancient Olympics, Nigel Spivey examines how culture encourages and
shapes the Olympic Games, as well as become a safe haven for ancient Greece during times of
conflict. This multifaceted monograph demonstrates that the societal behavior of the Athenians
shifted within prescribed roles regarding the use of violence, the imagery of true beauty, and the
love for Greeces youth during the games. In addition to shedding light on society s enlightening
interpretation of what occurs within the gymnasia, the Olympic Gamesredirect a whole new
meaning to conflicts that arise on and off the Olympic stage. Although the concept of a multifaceted
culture revolving around incessant conflict is not new to the study of ancient Greece, it is Spivey s
unique analysis of the impact of the Olympic Games that make his argument so compelling to his
readers. Specifically, Spivey argues that the behaviors captured during the Olympic games in
ancient Greece and Rome are synonymous with the shifts in cultural norms observed , as well as
society s reactions to incessant conflict surrounding ancient Greece, within and outside of the
Olympic gymnasia. In order to conceptualize the very shift in cultural norms that took place during
the Olympic Games within ancient history, Nigel Spivey claims in his monograph that the societal
interpretation of the Games correlates to culturally prescribed roles regarding strife as a guiding
principle of existence, the imagery of true masculinity,

The Extreme Right in Britain Essay examples
The Extreme Right in Britain
Introduction
Perhaps, one of the highly debated issues in the electoral procedures of different European nations
is about the extreme right. Based on the premise that the nation is the primary unit of social and
political organization, extremist nationalism has been revived since the demise of communism.
Unlike civic nationalism, which stresses equality and solidarity, the exaggerated, chauvinistic, and
aggressive nationalism of the extreme right upholds the significance of the nation and national
identity against any other value. Each person is defined by membership in ancient ethnic and
cultural groups that are hierarchically arranged according to the natural order. In the extreme rights
view, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since then, several political parties have failed to generate much support, like the Dutch
Centrumdemocraten (CD). But overall, the newly emerging variants of the extreme right did not
suffer the much anticipated periodical decline (Epstein 21). They endured and even doubled their
electoral turnout over the last two decades. Therefore it has become difficult to dismiss them as
temporary and secluded (Hainsworth 10).
Several developments highlight and substantiate the thesis that the extreme right has re established
itself as a significant political actor in several Estern European democracies including Great Britain
(Rensmann 93). Extreme and radical populist right parties are far from being a short lived,
transitory, and temporary protest phenomenon that is temporarily endorsed by alienated voters
lacking identifiable beliefs; they have largely consolidated their positions in the electoral landscape
and beyond. Although in many cases, extreme right actors remain somewhat at the fringe of the
political system, they have often succeeded in stabilizing or broadening their constituencies, turning
new voters into loyal voters, creating militant extremist milieus and generating nationalist, anti
immigrant movements across Europe. In Great Britain, there

China s World s Elite Currency
Chinese Ren Min Bi has become one of the world s elite currency. On Monday, November 31,
2015, The International Monetary Fund has approved China s yuan into its elite reserve currency.
As this decision announced, it will impact China s economy. This new policy will help pave the
way for broader use of the renminbi in trade and finance, securing China s standing as a global
economic power, just like four other currencies the US dollar, the European euro, the English pound
and the Japanese yen.

Firstly, the dominance of the US dollar as an international currency to be more reduced. Chinese
government believes that the positive effect will be felt by the country s currency if the yuan
becomes number one in the world, one of which is able to weaken the hegemony of the US dollar
as global reserve currency. It also increases the importance of China in global financial markets.
The impact could be felt at least in the near future, in the third quarter of 2016. In Indonesia, on
the last few years, people can put their assets in bank by using US Dollar, but in the next few
year, it cannot be denied if people can put Ren Min Bi as their assets, because Ren Min Bi
exchange rate is cheaper and friendly than US Dollar.
Secondly, the demand for renminbi asssets could be increased. The inclusion of the yuan also
potentially provide a shift in asset demand for renminbi, it is predicted will take place in the short
term in the capital market. However, the inclusion of the Ren Min Bi as a global reserve currency
that could have a significant impact on profit credit.
Moreover, Indonesia will be dependence on declining US dollar. The positive impact of reducing
Indonesia s dependence on the US dollar, if the bilateral swap effectively and cost of fund in
market. Then it will give a tremendous impact of changes in economic conditions that exist in
Indonesia later. So, Indonesia will be able

The George Rogers Clark National Historical Park is a 26 acre historical park in the Midwest

and I visited the George Rogers Clark Museum. My wife and I actually live very close to
Vincennes Indiana, as it is only a 25 minute drive and we frequently visit Vincennes for shopping

reminds me of the Donato Bramante, Tempietto. The columns represented in the Tempietto are also
Doric, with the top section being decorated as well, but the Tempietto is decorated with objects of
Christian liturgy in sculptural relief. The exterior of the building is made of granite that is from

Social Relations And Gender Roles
Every one of us have been influenced in one way or another by social relations to gender roles. All
human cultures have various expectations regarding the male or female gender. There are many
standards that dictate how individuals should dress, think, behave, and interact with the world
around them. It is when these roles begin to reduce the life chances of individuals and preserve
inequalitythat becomes problematic. Humans, as a society, crafted their own definitions of what it
means to be a man or a woman. Because of this if a female partakes in a masculine activity it is
often met with disgust and hostility and if a male partakes in a feminine activity it is scorned by
men and women alike. Gendernorms have existed throughout... Show more content on

If she is African American, it is sixty four cents for every dollar earned by a man and fifty four
cents if she is Latina. Throughout a lifetime, a typical woman loses about $700,000 just because
she is paid less than a man. (now national, 2017) No one should be discriminated against in the
workplace because of his or her own gender. It is shocking that even fifty three years later
women are still having this fight for equal pay. Equal pay means economic growth for the
nation. If women were making more, the additional money flowing towards food, clothing,
household items and services this would expand the economy by at least three or four
percentages. This would also strengthen the middle class as well. If women were to be paid a
fair share, more families can join the middle class and have a chance at economic security.
Women can hold the responsibility that jobs require. Some women acquired their degree,
attended a university or college and became an expert in their career and performs the job just as
well, if not better, than a male, then they absolutely should be paid equal salaries. Women who

How Does Edgar Allan Poe Use Symbols In The Masque Of The...
No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. (446). The Masque of the Red Death by
Edgar Allan Poe is about a devastating plague that is going around a country. Edgar Allan Poe is
one of the many gothic literature writers. He loves to write about insanity, murder, and the evil

the theme that no one can escape death. Poe uses a lot of symbolism in this story. The author uses

the dark adventure the Prince thought he was above death, he was happy that half of the

It s always good to have options. But what happens when there are too many? This is the
situation in the eyewear industry today. There s an overwhelming number of options in frame
choices, tints, coatings, and lens materials. Of these option categories, choosing the right lens
material is possibly the most confusing. As you look through the pros and cons of the
candidates, there s no overwhelming winner that s superior in all the qualities (including cost)
that go into a good lens. How do you make an informed choice? By knowing exactly how you
will use your prescription glasses and then picking the lens material with the properties that make

In fact, breaking a thin polycarbonate lens would require bending it back and forth several
times. This is the reason for its superior impact strength (about 10 times higher than CR 39) and
why it s used for safety and sports glasses. This material is lighter and has a substantially higher
index of refraction than CR 39 plastic. This means the lenses are thinner and lighter. Another
important property is that polycarbonate naturally blocks 100% UV light. On the other hand, its
optical quality is inferior to CR 39. Polycarbonate makes sense as an outdoor eyewear material.
It s a good pick for sunglasses, which should have UV protection. On the other hand, CR 39
plastic would require a special UV protection coating for outdoor use. This increases its cost. The
optical quality of polycarbonate is good enough for driving, walking, and other outdoor activities.
Polycarbonate s lighter weight and toughness are perfect for athletic activities. However, this

The World s Tallest Skyscraper And Man Made Islands

Dubai is the largest city in the United Arab Emirates and quite possibly the most famous of all
Arabian metropolises. This fame has arisen from the city s great oil wealth; from the massive

numbers of expats attracted to Dubai by the prospect of sharing in the city s prosperity.

Aviation and aerospace is another large industry requiring skilled workers. Emirates, the official

Analysis Of Amazon s Amazon Essay
Amazon has outperformed every other online retailer for the past few years. There is a simple
explanation for their success. Their main strength and why consumers choose Amazon is because
they provide an excellent customer experience. They call it Customer Obsession . If a product on
Amazon is sold by or fulfilled by Amazon, the returning process is extremely simple. In my own
experience with returning products to Amazon, no matter the case, they will pay the shipping and
give the customer a full refund or a replacement for the product. This provides customers with a
worry free experience. There is absolutely no hassle if a product is defective or if the customer

Entrepreneurial Mode is the strategy is made by one powerful individual. This is also the first

Routes Of Immunization And Effects Of Antigen Dose
Immunologist Toolbox Report Topics 1. Haptens First described by Karl Landsteiner, a hapten is a
small molecule that can elicit an immune response only when it attaches itself to a larger carrier
molecule, usually a protein creating the hapten carrier adduct or hapten carrier complex. This
complex then has the ability to become immunogenic. Haptens react specifically to the antibodies
created against it and while the hapten, alone, cannot cause antibodies to respond it, it can bind
with antibodies and act as an antigen. An example of a substance acting as a hapten is penicillin.
When administered as an antibiotic, penicillin can bind with proteins in the body to form a hapten
carrier complex and cause anaphylaxis. Another example is urushiol, a toxin found in poison ivy.
During exposure, urushiol can bind with skin proteins creating a complex that then can cause
dermatitis. http://image.slidesharecdn.com/bio151lec4 101209015956 phpapp02/95/bio 151 lecture

the route of immunization is the path used to introduce the immunization to a person s body. There
are several standard methods of immunization and administering a vaccine via the correct route is a
critical factor to the success of the immunization. Typically, vaccines are given intramuscularly,
subcutaneously, by intradermal injection (the topmost layer of skin), orally, or intranasal via nasal

Hershey s Chocolate
Hershey s, Marketing One Generation Ahead

Abstract
Hershey s Chocolate is one of the most recognizable brands in the U.S. Hershey built this
recognition by building brand loyalty. They began to build this loyalty in the early 1990 s by
targeting their marketing to adults. The reasons for this are many, but two are that adults eat about
55% of all candy consumed and that mothers shape their children s early taste in candy. Hershey
revised their marketing strategy in several ways. Hershey also has an amusement park in the
hometown of the Company, Hershey, Pennsylvania.

They are M amp; M looking candy that comes in a zip top bag. This market segment allows the
more mobile fast paced adults carry a small re sealable bag in their car or in a desk drawer, instead
of leaving a half eaten candy bar in the same place. The process of choosing the bag of candy over
a candy bar falls into the low involvement, high knowledge problem solving process (Peter amp;
Olson, 2012, p. 177). The consumer has a high knowledge of the product, a candy bar, and
presumably has a favorable view of the candy. It requires low involvement because the buyer
knows they like the candy, but prefer to have the bag of candy because of the convenience and
other attributes previously mentioned. I prefer the original size of candy bar.
My Last Candy Purchase
The most recent candy purchase I made was at the local grocery store. I have a favorable
disposition toward this store (cognition). I went in for a short specific shopping trip. I walked in
and was greeted by the scent of the fresh produce that is very near the door. I like the way the
store is laid out (environment). I know where the things I want are located. I had a short list in
my head of things to pick up, so I began my assault on the aisles without taking a cart (thinking
and deciding actions of cognition). I stood in the adult beverage section for several minutes trying
to decide what flavor I was in the mood for that weekend. I made a selection (overt behavior) and

Miranda Warning Importance
The Miranda Warning is highly important. If the police fail to read the suspect his or her Miranda
Rights the prosecutor can t use for most purposes anything the suspect says as evidence against the
suspect at trial. The Miranda Warning requires that officers let you know of certain facts after your
arrest, before questioning you. A rule was made that when policehave you in custody, they have to
remind you of your Constitutional rights before questioning you or they can t use the things you
say against you in court. It s just an easy way to decide if a statement was voluntary. That s why
Miranda is important, and that s why Miranda can, and does, still get criminal cases dismissed when
the defendant makes incriminating statements to the police.

How Did American Culture Change Over Time
Over the past several centuries the world has changed in a countless number of ways. From
colonialism to slavery, the industrial revolution to the World Wars, and the modern day
technological boom, America in particular has often been right in the middle of all of the
transformations. Amongst these changes certain movements also began to rise up especially in the
arts, sciences, and politics. One such movement, romanticism, emphasized emotions, abstract
thought, and individual self. On the other hand, an opposite movement known as neoclassicism, or
sometimes just classicism, emphasized a more old school approach to life. For example, things like
reason and rationality, etiquette, and science were mainly focused on. Moving into today modern...

This includes healthcare, immigration, and basic human rights. After the most recent

hundreds of years since Lafayette s novel the times have unfortunately not changed much. The
princess was afraid to come forward and express her love for the Duke just like people who

Obstacles In Achieving The American Dream
A dream is not obtainable through waiting. It is obtained by many factors. With many dreams
come trials that must be passed. The main obstacles of the American dream include race, the time

achieving the American dream. Throughout history, it is apparent that whites have an edge in
obtaining the dream. This is because the major settlers of America were white. Also a majority of
the American population consists of white people. African Americans and Hispanics still have a

Existentialism in The Metamorphosis and The Hunger Artist
Existentialism is a philosophy dealing with man s aloneness in the universe. Either there is no
God or else God stands apart from man, leaving him free will to make his own choices. From this
basic idea of man being alone in an uncertain and purposeless world, many related ideas have
developed. One great worry of existentialist writers is that life is becoming too complicated and
too impersonal. People become more and more involved with their work, which is taking them
away from their friends, family, and culture. However, these provide the only meaning that life
could possibly have. One author prominently known for his work with existential ideas was Franz

Kafka also uses the existential idea that man s fate is sometimes beyond man s control. In his
stories, chance or destiny rules man s life. Gregor could not control his metamorphosis, just as he
cannot control his new legs which waved helplessly before his eyes (1). The hunger artist s fate
is to die of starvation, since as he says, I have to fast, I can t help it (8). Gregor dies; the artist
dies. Their lack of control over their fates emphasizes man s helplessness and forlornness, to use
Sartre s term.
For both Gregor and the hunger artist, work leads from dehumanization to death. Their deaths
illustrate another theme of existentialist writing: that man, though alone, cannot survive by
himself. He needs to interact as a member of society in order to give meaning to his life. Man
needs mankind in order to be alive. Before his metamorphosis, Gregor was very much a loner. He
got up at four every morning to travel all over the region to sell products, and he didn t have the
time or the opportunity to make lasting friendships. Nor did he really try. In his free time, he read
or did artwork, neither of which required anyone else. Nevertheless, Gregor s employers did not
understand that he was trying to do a good job. They thought that he was trying to cheat the
company. His company treated him like a piece of machinery to be replaced at the first sign

A Short Story Of A Ghost Story
I shall begin my story with an experience I encountered at the age of sixteen at our small town s
Latin school. The sweetness of many memories from that time still stirs and touches me with
melancholy: dark and well lit alleys, houses and factories, faces and chimes, rooms affluent and
comfortable, snug and amenable, the whole town was pregnant with secrets.
The realms of day and night, two different universes coming from two opposite poles, mingled
during this time. My parents home belonged to one realm. This realm was familiar to me in many
ways strictness and love, model behaviour and school. This realm was thriving in clarity, brilliance
and purity, polite conversations and good manners. This was the world in which morning hymns
were sung and Christmas celebrated. Straight lines and paths led into the future: there was duty,
love, forgiveness, good resolutions, wisdom and reverence. If one wanted an unsullied and
ordinary life, one made sure one was in league with this world.
The other realm, however, was completely different: it smelt different, spoke a different language,
promised and demanded different things. This world contained ghost stories, rumours of scandals
and servant girls. It was dominated by a loud mixture of horrendous, intriguing, frightful, mysterious
things, including slaughterhouses and prisons, drunkards and screeching fishwives, calving cows,
horse sinking to their deaths, talks of robberies, murders and suicides. All these wild and cruel,

Athenian Women Essay
Athenian Women
Athenian society was very dynamic in many areas while it was strict in regard to the treatment of
women. Although Athenian women were protected by the state and did not know a different way
of living, they were very stifled and restricted. The only exception was slaves, and heteria,
prostitutes, and this was due to the fact that they had no male guardians. Since these women were
on there own they had to take care of themselves, and therefore were independent. In a more recent
and modern way of viewing the role of a woman, independence and freedom to do as one likes is
one of the most important aspects of living. In Athens the wives had none of this freedom and the
prostitutes did. Who then really had a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But when we come to the age of maturity and awareness, we are thrust out and battered away, far
from the gods of our forefathers and parents, some to good homes and some to abusive ones. And
after one single joyful night live, we are compelled to praise this arrangement and consider
ourselves lucky.
Sophocles, Fragment 583 from terus.
A scorned wife spoke this in one of Sophocles lost plays. Sophocles has seized the essence of what
it means to be a woman in Athens at this time. The marriage of an Athenian woman and man is
hard to define exactly because there has not been an exact word translated that is equivalent to
the word, marriage. The Athenians have words that translate as physical acts for a marriage for
the sake of having a child, they also have words that translate as cohabit or live together. This
leads to the conclusion that our traditional connotation of marriage as a bond is not the way it
was in Athens. The reasons for a man and a woman to be joined in marriage were nor for love, as
we would expect, it would be for profitable and more pragmatic reasons. Usually most beneficial
to the male s in the bride s life. Since the women were not supposed to be unattended they are
assumed to have accepted what was decided for them in terms of a husband. ...A husband normally

Narrative Essay On Irish Dance
Day 6: I was served a traditional Irish breakfast this morning, and aside from the puddings (which
weren t too bad), it was similar to a traditional breakfast I get at home. After breakfast, we boarded
the bus and headed for Glenveagh Castle. The castle itself was beautiful, from the elaborate
interiors, to the stunning gardens and trails, and the gorgeous scenery. The castle even has a curse
attached to it, showing how Irish culture is fond of myths and superstitions. After we left the castle,
we went back to the community center for lessons in Irish culture and dance. Although it is not the
most common spoken language in Ireland, Gaelic, is the national language of Ireland. Having their
own national language would promote nationalism within the country, giving the people
something of their own that wasn t established when Brittan took over. I was as good at learning
Gaelic as I was with Spanish, terrible, after the session all I could remember was how to ask for
a pint and how to ask for food. Out of the two sessions, I was far better at the Irish dancing. The
session itself was one of the most fun things I did in Ireland, learning the various dances and the
meaning behind them. Irish dancing, like Gaelic, is very important to the Irish people, even our

The Good, The Bad And The Inexplicable Essay
Health Care Organizations A purposefully designed, structured social system developed for the
delivery of health care services by specialized workforces to defined communities, populations or
markets. Variations in health care The good, the bad and the inexplicable explores the possible
causes of variation, shows the different ways in which variations can be measured, and analyses
variations by PCT in rates of elective hospital admissions for selected procedures. Importance of
variation to health care organizations In order for variation to exist, there must be at least two
entities, for instance individual patients or groups being compared to each other or to a target.
Variation expresses the natural condition of things to be different from each other or to depart from
a pre established target. In statistical terms, variation is synonymous with dispersion or spread and
can be quantified by statistics, such as the range, the absolute deviation, the standard deviation, the
variance and the inter quartile range (e.g. Altman, 1991)19. There is panoply of terms synonymous
with variation which tends to be used in a specific context with a certain connotation. Terms such as

The Issues And Risks Facing Sel
After reviewing the current situations, I have identified the following issues and risks facing SEL.
An overview of the implications of the proposed IPO, and a brief analysis of the three accounting

Weaknesses in financial management
SEL has been weak in financial management. Both of you were not actively involved in it. Nor did
SEL have sufficient qualified accounting staff to undertake these critical responsibilities. For
example, there were no such roles who conducted business/operation planning, forecasting and

I would suggest we tighten the policies and procedures, deposit cheques more frequently
(preferably daily), review and approve invoices in time.
The recent growth in business, especially the new contracts, implies a significant increase of
accounting transactions. It calls for qualified full time accounting staff (rather than the current
inexperienced part time accountant), and sound financial management, which involves policies and
procedures, documents and tools, to help us keep the operation on track and achieve the business
goals. Being your new controller, I would be responsible for business planning. I will be mostly
involved in financial forecasting and budgeting and will help in the financial analysis. I would
recommend that we hire one cost accountant to conduct cost analysis and pricing; one full time
accountant to perform the routine accounting functions and assist in ad hoc accounting activities.
We should also develop useful tools to help undertake these tasks. Official reports for forecasting
/budgeting, financial analysis and cash flow management should be prepared and reviewed on a
regular basis, which would help in short term and long term planning and decision making.
Internal control perspective
From an internal control perspective, I would emphasize that SEL needs to strengthen its control
and monitor. Should we go public as proposed, our

Explain The Four Criteria Of Dissimilarity
Question #2 List and describe the four criteria of authenticity according to the textbook.
The historical Jesus Research according to the textbook shows four criteria of Authenticity and they
are the following listed below: (Page 152)
The Criterion of Multiple Attestation: This criterion simply states that the material about Jesus is
probably independent ancient sources.
The Criterion of Palestinian Environment: In this criterion a section of material in the Gospels is
probably authentic if it appears to be fairly literal translation Semitic (Hebrew or Aramaic) idiom
into Greek.
The Criterion of Dissimilarity: This talks about the Material in the Gospel is authentic if the sayings
or deeds of Jesus recorded in the account are dissimilar to those expected from the Judaism of His
day or from the practices and theology of the early church.
The Criterion of Coherence: In this we find the material is likely early and authentic if it is
consistent with material judged to be authentic based on other criteria.
How are these criteria used in studies of the Gospel?
Because the study of the Gospel during much of the twentieth century was dominated by an
approach called criticism, Andrea J. Kostenberger ET all said, what is more, these criteria of
authenticity establish the historical reliability of the Gospels accounts of Jesus supernatural
activity including exorcisms, miracles, and His resurrection. Thus these criteria demand a fresh

Mayan Civilization Disappearance
What Cause The Disappearance Of Maya Civilization?
The Maya civilization was an extremely mysterious and glorious ancient civilization. Most of the
Mayans were distributed throughout Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala. Mayans made a brilliant
civilization with the simple implement of production in the Neolithic Age, and they did not have
any metal tools or transportation. They left towering pyramid temples, majestic palaces, and finely
carved stone tablets. They also made many well made pottery and beautiful oblations. They created
an accurate mathematics system and an astronomical almanac system, and a hieroglyphic system,
which has still, not be decoded. As the only civilization that lived in the tropical jungle, instead of

The reason of the disappearance was drought. The drought has a regularity that was the same as
the solar cycle. The range of variation of the solar cycle is only about one percent, but it is
enough to make a serious drought of Yucatan peninsula the heart area of Mayan civilization.
Research about the sediments from the lakes in the northern Yucatan peninsula, shows that a high
concentration calcium sulfate settled layer appears back and forth. The reason of formation of
calcium sulfate is a lot of moisture evaporates from the surface, the time interval is about two

society was very fragile when it faces to drought. Their major crop was corn and is relied on a

E.E. Cummings and His Wondrous Works
Edward Estlin Cummings was born on October 14, 1894 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Cummings
began writing his poems as early as ten years old. His unique ideas and various poetic devices that
were included in his poetry induced him to be one of the most remembered poets of modern day
time. E.E. Cummings was an intriguing poet that is known for many poetic ideas. Among them,
Cummings was known for his ability to create meaning using structure and his avant garde
approach towards language. In his work, Cummings experimented radically with form, punctuation,
spelling and syntax, which caused him to abandon traditional techniques and structures to create a
new, highly distinctive mean of poetic expression. By introducing this new innovative writing style,
Cummings has influenced thousands of poets to carry on with his expression, which is what he had
hoped for.
The wide range of writing style that Cummings included while composing his poems gave him the
title of originality. While some of his poetryis free verse (with no concern for rhyme or meter),
many have a recognizable sonnet structure of 14 lines, with an intricate rhyme scheme. E.E.
Cummings poem, Fame Speaks, is an example of one of his more formal poems. The rhyme
scheme is an example of a petrarchan sonnet. The sonnet Fame Speaks talks about how E.E.
Cummings wants to be remembered as a great poet and not forgotten in the future. On the other

The intelligence scores of identical twins reared together are more similar than those of fraternal

Although normal brain development can be retarded by sensory, social isolation, and deprivation,
there is no sure environment that will transform a normal baby into a genius. Explain why heredity
many contribute to individual differences in intelligence but not necessarily contributes to group
differences. The amount of variation in a trait within a group that is attributed to genetic factors is
called its heritability. For intelligence, this has been estimated at 50 percent. If we know a trait has
perfect heritability, this knowledge does not enable us to rule out environmental factors in
explaining differences between groups. Because of the impact of environmental factors such as
education and nutrition on intelligence test performance, even if the heritability of intelligence is
high within a particular group, differences in intelligence among groups may be environmentally
caused. One group may, for example, thrive in an enriched environment while another of the same

By design twenty first century learning prepares students to be successful, contributing citizens in
the locale of today s global society. Twenty first century learning requires students to understand
how to learn independently and develop strong critical thinking and interpersonal communication
skills (Mcleod, 2010). The principles and practices of progressive education convey a striking
resemblance to the contemporary principles associated with twenty first century learning (Little,

Triumph, Honda and Kawasaki. Internationally, Europe has the largest demand for heavy weight
motorcycles; in which Harley Davidson has only managed to acquire less than 13% of this
lucrative market (HD, 2011).
2c.Opportunities
One of Harley Davidson biggest opportunities is intrinsically linked to its major weakness.
Internationally there is a large bit of a very big pie that Harley Davidson has not managed to attain.
Although Harley Davidson has less than 13% of the heavy weight motorcycle sales in Europe, they
manage to hold the number 2 ranking in this market. This ranking indicates that no one competitor
owns the heavy weight market in Europe and suggests that the customer loyalty amongst the
competitors is far from what Harley Davidson enjoys in the USA.
Having achieved the number one ranking for sales to women, Harley Davidson still have a large
potential customer base in attracting more women riders. Since 2007 Harley Davidson has doubled
its marketing spend and released bikes more suited to women riders, who now account for 12% of

In the various attempts to reach that common aspiration these movements went through a series of
debates, controversies, tensions and strife which was indicative of the Protestant movement from
its inception and which brought about the Reformation. The fourth factor that necessitates a new
study is the fact that many existing analyses have been biased by the ideas and perceptions of
Protestant leaders which have distorted the perception and development of the movement. The last
reason McGrath gives for the need of a new study is the fact that Protestantism itself has changed in
the last fifty years. This study brings to the reader and to the scholar an updated version of the
present day Protestant movement, its impact in present day society and an analysis of its
significance in the future of Christianity. McGrath s Christianity s Dangerous Idea attempts to tell
the story of Protestantism from its early beginnings up to its present day form. A similar and
parallel story is found in Justo Gonzalez s The Story of Christianity in which he also gives a
narrative of the origin, growth and development of the Protestant movement from the Reformation
to the present day. However, Gonzalez not only gives an account of Protestantism but of
Christianity as a whole while McGrath concentrates his study on Protestantism alone. In addition,
McGrath not only narrates but also gives a prophetic

Artistic Voice Essay
Artistic Voice
Authors have a distinct identity that you recognize when you read their work of art. The qualities
and aspects of a text that give an author a distinct identity as an artist are known as their artistic
voice. Denise Levertov and Anne Sexton both use different themes in their poetry that separate
them from other poets. Denise Levertov writes about the unknown and the unsaid in life. Anne
Sexton distinguishes herself by writing about her family, loves, and her emotional tragedies. Sandra
Cisneros wrote a novel called The House on Mango Street that contained a different setup than most
novels. It was written in fragments and the language was straightforward. Cisneros focuses on the

Meaning those problems that occur in the marriage will not just disappear when you kiss and make
up. In the second stanza she is using communion to express how a spouse if looking for
communication with their partner and is being turned away each by each. Levertov refers to
society as a leviathan in the third stanza. She also talks about how the couple is looking for joy in
their relationship, but they do not want it to be known that things are not working out with them.
In the last stanza Levertov uses to the ark of to explain the survival of marriage. Everyone feels
that marriage is a delightful experience; choosing to ignore the reality of struggles that
relationships must deal with. Levertov took the one sided view that people hold of marriage and
exemplified the realistic problems that people tend to forget.
When Anne Sexton writes her poetry she writes to make the reader feel what she is writing.
Sexton tends to write about her own experiences and events in other women s lives. In Anne
Sexton s Unknown Girl in the Maternity Ward, she uses a language to express a mother s pain and
anger after she gave birth to her fatherless child:
And now that s that. There is nothing more that I can say or lose.

How Did Europeans Want To Dominate Africa
Because it was a part of the old spice and trade routes between Europe and Asia, Egypt s border
has always been a convenient port for other countries to enter. Britishempire.co.uk stated, Since the
beginning of time, trade links had existed between Egypt and Britain and that British traders had
been loading and unloading their ships there for generations ( British ). This would be one of many
key factors as to why Europe would have wanted to dominate this country and those surrounding it.
Needing power and newfound resources, European nations became suspicious of this New Africa.
Once gold and diamonds were discovered, Europeans began to impede. Greed now escalates into
foreign countries needing total domination of Africa. Europeans colonizing these countries was

Rivals were sometimes united, while at other times, whole families were split between different
colonies. Artificial borders along with combined or unnaturally divided groups created problems
that hurt African colonies during European rule. These boundaries continue to create problems for
the nations that evolved from the former colonies. ( The Age 784)
With hardships, however, came upsides as well. Colonialism reduced local warfare. Humanitarian
efforts in some colonies improved hygiene and provided hospitals and schools. From these
advancements lifespans increased, literacy rates rose, and the economy took a huge step into
modernization. African products became valuable on the international market. To help boost
economic growth, railroads, dams, telephone and telegraph lines were built in African colonies;
nevertheless, Europeans benefitted from the resulting profit and equity that came from the drastic
improvements, not the actual citizens. ( The Age

Flint Town Documentary Analysis
Most of my life I thought Detroit was the worst city in Michigan and I thought it couldn t possibly
get much worse, until I watched the documentary Flint Town . Flint Town is a documentary on
Netflix that follows the Flint Police Department and lets the officers and citizens of the community
explain their undiscovered struggles and difficulties with decreasing resources, crumbling
infrastructure, and of course the violence. Furthermore, they have faced a major water crisis caused
by lead in the old pipes that supplies Flint their water. These things coupled together has found the

their daily struggles on the street and trying to beat crime with futile attempt and citizens speak
about their frustration with the crime and lack of appropriate response times along with their fear
about living in such an unsafe town. The police department that the show focuses on is down over

Cultural Bias In Wikipedia Essay
The article, Cultural Bias in Wikipedia Content on Famous Persons, investigates if there is any
cultural bias in Wikipedia biographies. The writers started by discussing what Wikipedia is and
some of the issues with it. Some of these issues include: lack of accuracy, unknown motives,
uncertain expertise, volatility, unconfirmed or lacking sources, and selective coverage biased by the
specific interest of contributors. The authors decided to test the last concern; they formed a
hypothesis and tested Wikipediain two different languages to see if there was any cultural bias. The
writers chose English and Polish. Primary English speaking countries have a different culture than
the Polish speaking country (Callahan, Herring 1899 1900). The writers chose to use the United
States and Poland as the test cultures. They chose the United States since it was the largest English
speaking country and the country in which Wikipedia originated. They formed two research
questions and two hypotheses. The questions were about the differences between English and
Polish versions of articles about famous people and if they favor local... Show more content on

Examples Of Social Outcasts In To Kill A Mockingbird
Prejudice and social expectations are the main cause of social outcasts and unfair treatment. In the
novel To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, many examples of unfair treatment and social
outcasts are used. Constantly, themes of prejudice and social expectations are accurately displayed
by creating outcasts in society and relying on pre judgments to judge behavior. She also accurately
displays the fact that not all people in the South during that time were prejudiced.
Social expectations are a strong aspect of the town of Maycomb in To Kill a Mockingbird. Many
outcasts are created using these expectations. In the story, the Radley s are viewed as a very odd
family and when the main character and narrator, Scout, reveals the ... Show more content on

One example is the immediate arrest of Tom Robinson, an African American man who was
accused of raping a white woman. When Robinson was arrested the sheriff, Heck Tate, showed
no mercy and did not second guess himself. Prejudice is showed in this moment because
Robinson was not questioned at all when he was arrested, but if he had been white the demeanor
would change. To further prove that it would have a different outcome if Tom Robinson was
white, Lee incorporates a quote that recalls the time when Tate refuses to put a white man behind
bars. The sheriff hadn t the heart to put him in jail alongside Negroes... (Lee 14). Since the Sheriff
hadn t put a white man who needed jail time in jail because he would be surrounded by those of
the opposite race, it shows a prejudice the town had against African Americans. This is because it
took no time at all to arrest Robinson, but when I came down to a man of his own race, it
became emotional and socially incorrect. Another example of prejudice is when the town pre
judges Mr. Dolphus Raymond as an evil man. As Mr. Dolphus Raymond was an evil man I
accepted his invitation reluctantly... (Lee 267). Mr. Dolphus Raymond is a man who was
supposed to get married to a white woman, but was also having sexual affairs with a black
woman. When the bride to be found this out she killed herself and ever since he was seen with a

How Is Strategic Bombing Justified
Strategic bombing is a military strategy used in a total war with the goal of defeating the enemy
by destroying its morale or its economic ability to produce and transport materiel to the theatres of
military operations. This tactic was used by the United States and Britain against the Germans and
Japanese in World War II. Strategic bombing is debated on whether the United States and Britain
were justified in using it. The United States and Britain used strategic bombing to protect their
people from fascist dictators and were justified in doing so. In the beginning of World War II, air
forces only attacked militarytargets. This changed once the German Luftwaffe began conducting
air raids on British cities, including London, during the summer of 1940, (The Editors of
Encyclopædia Britannica). Strategic bombing soon became a main part of military combat. It
was seen to be in the best interest of the country s side in the war. To the British, bombing
German cities was a type of revenge. They showed the same amount of mercy for the German
civilians as the Germans did for them, which was little to none. What the Allies did in Japan
reflects what they did in Europe. Like the British, the U.S. bombed Japan as a response to the
Pearl Harbor attack. As was the case in the air war against Germany, military planners
experimented with different bombing tactics in order to maximize the damage inflicted on Japan
and force a surrender, (The Choices Program). The United States was working to decrease the
power Japan had in the Pacific

Great danes are tall dogs even though they are not very heavy. Their popularity and beautiful
physique have gained them the title of the Apollo of Dogs. Danes are loving, friendly, and
affectionate when treated accordingly. According to AKC standards, male danes are not less
than 32 inches and are usually 34 inches tall. The average Dane is close to three feet tall in
height. Duration of development of your great dane s body largely depends on his or her gender.
To illustrate, a male can complete his development in three full years where females can be adults
in a year or less. Puppyhood usually lasts for 18 months and over the course of these first 18 28
months, an owner will witness their great dane mature mentally and physically. Diet

Research Paper On Cholelera
This day in age, contracting cholera is not something people worry about in the United States. The
United States was able to escape this worry because of effective public health measures and other
resources. However, in third world countries such as Haiti, a cholera outbreak is a frequent worry.
Cholera is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, found in contaminated waters. Symptoms of
cholerainclude diarrhea, dehydration, increased heart rate, muscle cramps, low blood pressure, and
dry mouth, throat, nose and eyelids (WebMD 2014). In industrialized countries, the implementation
of water treatment facilities and sewage has eradicated cholera. Cholera is easily treated, by simply

Cholera, transmitted by contaminated food and water. When the disease arrived in New York
City in summer 1832, after traveling over trade routes from India through Russia and Europe
across the Atlantic to Canada and down the Hudson River Valley, thousand of citizens died
within weeks. Cholera struck again in 1849 and 1866 before New Yorkers learned how to
contain the disease. Measuring the reaction of New Yorkers to these increasingly traumatic
public health disasters shows how understandings of disease were filtered through contemporary
ideas about class and social relations, conceptions of immigrants, and thinking about the
responsibilities of the city s government in issues of public health in mid nineteenth century New
York. The first documented case of cholera was on June 24, 1832 in NYC (McNamara 2015). In
the 1830s immigrants began to flood New York City, they often lived in poor conditions with
compacted living areas. Along with immigrants, there was a small free black community in
Manhattan ( History of Cholera in NYC 2012). So the city was packed with different people
from all over, many were living in poverty and horses and pigs ran freely in the streets. The
environment became crowded and dirty, the perfect breeding ground for disease. Without a
proper sewage system, human waste found its way into the City s water supply. As the
population of the City grew denser, several outbreaks of cholera occurred. Nearly 100,00 people
fled to the countryside, when cholera hit the NYC (McNamara 2015). Many wealthy New Yorkers
and those more well off, fled the city during cholera outbreaks in search of more hospitable
environment. Those who owned buildings throughout the city refused to lease their spaces for
hospitals, in fear of contamination. Most doctors worked to reduce the suffering of cholera victims.
During that time, medical knowledge was limited and so were

Five Cognate Strategies Examples
The Cognate Strategies That Are Used In Business Writing
Rita Ogbeama
University of the People
Introduction Good writing is about responding to the need of your reader. It must meet their
expectations, it must be clear and precise and it must be efficient and effective. Good writing could
be logical, ethical, credible or emotional depends on the audience and what you are trying to
communicate. (McLean, 2011) For this assignment I will discuss 5out of the nine cognate
strategies, I will describe how I implemented them into my own writing in the past and also
provide examples of the same. The five cognate strategies I will discuss are: clarity, tone,

Phanerozoic Eras
The earth has been around for 4.6 billion years, and over this time 99.9% of all of the species that
have existed on earth have gone extinct. (Barnosky, et al) Palaeontologists characterize mass
extinctions as times in Earth s history when the Earth loses more than three quarters of its species
in a geologically short period of time. This has occurred 5 times over the past 540 million years,
and scientists are now suggesting it is happening a 6th time. We are in the midst of a sixth mass
extinctionthat has the potential to wipe out many species of importance, and humans have a
profound impact on it.
Essentially, there have been 5 mass extinctions during the history of life on earth. (Wake,
Vredenburg) And, the time the earth has existed has been divided up into eons, eras, periods, and
epochs based on the geologic strata of that age. (Impey) There are two eons, the Pre cambrian and
the Phanerozoic. In the Pre cambrian there are 3 eras, the Haydean, Archean, and the Proterozoic.
In the Phanerozoic, there are the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic Eras. In the Paleozoic, there
are seven periods, the Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Mississippian, Pennsylvanian, and
Permian. Then for Mesozoic there are three periods, Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous. In the ... Show

The Pros And Cons Of The War On Terrorism
Fighting fire with fire, or in this case, fighting terrorism with terrorism. This, simply put, is what
many believe to be the solution to terrorism a War on Terror. NATO is well known for being one
of the largest and strongest organizations or military alliances in which participating states agree to
mutual defense in any event of an external attack. Since the attack of 9/11, NATO, with the lead of
the U.S., has been determined to eradicate each and every single terrorist group or any form of
terrorism. Over the years, these motivations have sparked countless controversial issues as ethics of
this war became increasingly questionable. Although many may support this concept of a War on
Terror , it is simply, without question, economically damaging, misleading, and a hopeless attempt
to solve the issue of terrorism.
In 2011, expenses for the War on Terror were reported by the Pentagon to be about $1 trillion.
However, when experts carefully analyzed the data and expenses, they had discovered hidden
costs that were left unmentioned by the Pentagon, creating a new total of approximately $4.4
trillion. To put this into perspective, $4.4 trillion is over a fifth of the total U.S. tax revenue from
2001 2011 (about $21 trillion). If just $1 billion in education spending adds $1.3 billion to the
economy and creates 17,687 jobs, imagine the benefits from the thousands of billions of dollars
that are used to support the War on Terror. As a result, many jobs and economic

Origins of Criminal Behavior
Tara Olivarez
University of the Rockies
Abstract
We spend a large amount of time learning. It should be important to know something about it.
Everyone is a learner, and everyone is also a teacher. Even as small children will show another
child how to play a game. Most social process theories assume behavior (good or bad) is learned
behavior which means that even criminal behavior can be learned through social interactions.
Origins of Criminal Behavior
In all connections with learning, we find ourselves learning to like or dislike. The learning
process is very complex, when we consider the large variety of idea, viewpoints, values and bits of
information people have. A great deal of learning is a matter of association or conditioning.
Criminal behavior has and will always be a large focus for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

  • 2. Comparative Essay on Uniformitarianism and Catasophism The Rise of Papacy The rise of the papacy came at a time when the Roman Empire collapsed and there was chaos as it related to the bishops who held office in Rome and what religion would be at the forefront of the representation of the west or east of Rome since its demise. The term papacy (papatus), meant to distinguish the Roman bishop s office from all bishoprics (episcopatus), and The Head of the Roman Catholic Church the pope is considered the successor of Peter and the vicar of Christ (Elwell, p. 888). The pope is a terms of endearment which means father and this was the title of the most important and influential bishops in the early church. He used the income from various estates to pay the barbarians and he gave the churches, hospitals and schools. Pope Gregory I actively intervened in the affairs of other bishops by settling disputes which help elevate the Church of Rome back into the divine order and prestige of Papacy as the ruler of the city Rome. Pope Gregory had a heart of humility because he saw so Barbarian slaves in the Roman market and he sent Augustine Hippo to England to help them from bondage. By him sending Augustine it broke the chains and traditions of most popes in office and this was another way that the Papacy s authority had increased in power and direct authority over missionaries and their territories. He is counted as one of the Church Fathers like Jerome, Augustine, an Ambrose. He has written books and a Gregorian chant. He is the epitome of what leadership in Rome and abroad looks like. Charlemagne and the Carolingians inherited land that retained some of the attributes of Roman administration, specifically laws and systems of taxation. The Frankish culture was not urban and as a result in the early Middle Ages we see a general decline of urban life. The reign of Charlemagne (742 814) was that of a transition from classical to medieval civilization. Charlemagne ruled the Frankish kingdom from 771 814 which is and was a forty years span because of the European expansion and the growth of people living in this area. • 3. Jack Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis Effective leaders need to be flexible, and must adapt themselves according to the situation. The book Lord of the Flies by William Golding is about a group of british boys that get stranded on a island and they have to figure how a way to govern themselves. Jack s effective leadership throughout the novel led to great triumph. First I will talk about my first piece of evidence about how Jack is an effective leader. He d never have gotten us meat. He isn t a prefect and we don t know anything about him. He just gives orders and expects people to obey for nothing. (Golding,PDF, 98) This quote shows that Ralph wouldn t of done anything to hunt for meat for the boys on the island like Jack did. Ralph only worried about keeping the fire alive to have them get rescued, and not about hunting for food to stay alive. Also, you can t just expect people to do orders when you don t have anything to give them in return. Jack gave the other boys meat when he gave them orders. By Jack giving the ... The assembly shredded away and became a discursive and random scatter from the palms to the water and away along the beach, beyond night sight. (Golding,PDF,70) This quote is showing that Jack is a good leader. Ralph is making the other boys scared of the beast, but Jack is getting the boys excited to go and do something about the beast. Like a good leader would do in this situation. Jack doesn t want the boys to be scared of the beast anymore, so he gets them to come with him so they can face their fears, and not be scared anymore of the beast. Jack s leadership is getting to the boys, since Jack has natural leadership and can hunt, and can protect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Paradox is when a statement or phrase cancels out another sentence . For example , I ate no pizza , but I had a piece . Irony is when you say something that references something else . For example , a person doesn t know that there is a scary clown outside, but the audience or reader does . The first paradox is in the story Like the Sun . The main paradox in this story is you are suppose to tell people the truth, but if you do it can cause many conflicts, than if you just say nothing and nod . Biological bases of mental life and behaviour Task A. Answer the following five learning objectives [maximum 100 words per objective] 1.Explain the structure of neurons. How do neurons communicate with each other? How does the Endocrine system communicate? A neuron consists of a cell body, axon and dendrites. The cell body has a neuron, which is the control centre that controls and regulates the activities of the neuron. The dendrites are extending in a branch formation, projecting out from the cell body, which receives nerve impulses. The nerves travels down the axon until it reaches the synapse, which are the gap between two neurons. The nerve impulse must be converted into a neurotransmitter to be received by the other neuron triggering an electrical impulse. With the endocrine system, messages are sent into the bloodstream by hormones, which amplify the signal to the whole body. Only the cells with the correct receptors will activate. 2.Describe the Peripheral Nervous System and explain the two systems involved in work/exercise and rest. The peripheral nervous system consists of nerves that branch out from the brain and the spinal cord. It has two components, the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. The somatic nervous system is made up of nerves that connect to voluntary skeletal muscles and to sensory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The, The Ancient Olympics, By Nigel Spivey In the monograph, The Ancient Olympics, Nigel Spivey examines how culture encourages and shapes the Olympic Games, as well as become a safe haven for ancient Greece during times of conflict. This multifaceted monograph demonstrates that the societal behavior of the Athenians shifted within prescribed roles regarding the use of violence, the imagery of true beauty, and the love for Greeces youth during the games. In addition to shedding light on society s enlightening interpretation of what occurs within the gymnasia, the Olympic Gamesredirect a whole new meaning to conflicts that arise on and off the Olympic stage. Although the concept of a multifaceted culture revolving around incessant conflict is not new to the study of ancient Greece, it is Spivey s unique analysis of the impact of the Olympic Games that make his argument so compelling to his readers. Specifically, Spivey argues that the behaviors captured during the Olympic games in ancient Greece and Rome are synonymous with the shifts in cultural norms observed , as well as society s reactions to incessant conflict surrounding ancient Greece, within and outside of the Olympic gymnasia. In order to conceptualize the very shift in cultural norms that took place during the Olympic Games within ancient history, Nigel Spivey claims in his monograph that the societal interpretation of the Games correlates to culturally prescribed roles regarding strife as a guiding principle of existence, the imagery of true masculinity, ... • 9. The Extreme Right in Britain Essay examples The Extreme Right in Britain Introduction Perhaps, one of the highly debated issues in the electoral procedures of different European nations is about the extreme right. Based on the premise that the nation is the primary unit of social and political organization, extremist nationalism has been revived since the demise of communism. Unlike civic nationalism, which stresses equality and solidarity, the exaggerated, chauvinistic, and aggressive nationalism of the extreme right upholds the significance of the nation and national identity against any other value. Each person is defined by membership in ancient ethnic and cultural groups that are hierarchically arranged according to the natural order. In the extreme rights view, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since then, several political parties have failed to generate much support, like the Dutch Centrumdemocraten (CD). But overall, the newly emerging variants of the extreme right did not suffer the much anticipated periodical decline (Epstein 21). They endured and even doubled their electoral turnout over the last two decades. Therefore it has become difficult to dismiss them as temporary and secluded (Hainsworth 10). Several developments highlight and substantiate the thesis that the extreme right has re established itself as a significant political actor in several Estern European democracies including Great Britain (Rensmann 93). Extreme and radical populist right parties are far from being a short lived, transitory, and temporary protest phenomenon that is temporarily endorsed by alienated voters lacking identifiable beliefs; they have largely consolidated their positions in the electoral landscape and beyond. Although in many cases, extreme right actors remain somewhat at the fringe of the political system, they have often succeeded in stabilizing or broadening their constituencies, turning new voters into loyal voters, creating militant extremist milieus and generating nationalist, anti immigrant movements across Europe. It also increases the importance of China in global financial markets. The impact could be felt at least in the near future, in the third quarter of 2016. All human cultures have various expectations regarding the male or female gender. There are many standards that dictate how individuals should dress, think, behave, and interact with the world around them. It is when these roles begin to reduce the life chances of individuals and preserve inequalitythat becomes problematic. Humans, as a society, crafted their own definitions of what it means to be a man or a woman. This would also strengthen the middle class as well. If women were to be paid a fair share, more families can join the middle class and have a chance at economic security. Women who work full time earn seventy seven percent of what a male earns. Why should women have to work an extra sixty days (three months) to earn what the man did by the end of his previous year? • 21. Routes Of Immunization And Effects Of Antigen Dose Immunologist Toolbox Report Topics 1. Haptens First described by Karl Landsteiner, a hapten is a small molecule that can elicit an immune response only when it attaches itself to a larger carrier molecule, usually a protein creating the hapten carrier adduct or hapten carrier complex. This complex then has the ability to become immunogenic. Haptens react specifically to the antibodies created against it and while the hapten, alone, cannot cause antibodies to respond it, it can bind with antibodies and act as an antigen. An example of a substance acting as a hapten is penicillin. When administered as an antibiotic, penicillin can bind with proteins in the body to form a hapten carrier complex and cause anaphylaxis. Another example is urushiol, a toxin found in poison ivy. During exposure, urushiol can bind with skin proteins creating a complex that then can cause dermatitis. http://image.slidesharecdn.com/bio151lec4 101209015956 phpapp02/95/bio 151 lecture 4 27 728.jpg?cb=1291865929 2. Existentialism in The Metamorphosis and The Hunger Artist Existentialism is a philosophy dealing with man s aloneness in the universe. Either there is no God or else God stands apart from man, leaving him free will to make his own choices. From this basic idea of man being alone in an uncertain and purposeless world, many related ideas have developed. One great worry of existentialist writers is that life is becoming too complicated and too impersonal. People become more and more involved with their work, which is taking them away from their friends, family, and culture. However, these provide the only meaning that life could possibly have. Kafka also uses the existential idea that man s fate is sometimes beyond man s control. In his stories, chance or destiny rules man s life. Gregor could not control his metamorphosis, just as he cannot control his new legs which waved helplessly before his eyes (1). The hunger artist s fate is to die of starvation, since as he says, I have to fast, I can t help it (8). Gregor dies; the artist dies. Their lack of control over their fates emphasizes man s helplessness and forlornness, to use Sartre s term. For both Gregor and the hunger artist, work leads from dehumanization to death. Their deaths illustrate another theme of existentialist writing: that man, though alone, cannot survive by himself. He needs to interact as a member of society in order to give meaning to his life. Man needs mankind in order to be alive. Before his metamorphosis, Gregor was very much a loner. • 33. Narrative Essay On Irish Dance Day 6: I was served a traditional Irish breakfast this morning, and aside from the puddings (which weren t too bad), it was similar to a traditional breakfast I get at home. After breakfast, we boarded the bus and headed for Glenveagh Castle. The castle itself was beautiful, from the elaborate interiors, to the stunning gardens and trails, and the gorgeous scenery. The castle even has a curse attached to it, showing how Irish culture is fond of myths and superstitions. After we left the castle, we went back to the community center for lessons in Irish culture and dance. Although it is not the most common spoken language in Ireland, Gaelic, is the national language of Ireland. Having their own national language would promote nationalism within the country, giving the people something of their own that wasn t established when Brittan took over. I was as good at learning Gaelic as I was with Spanish, terrible, after the session all I could remember was how to ask for a pint and how to ask for food. Out of the two sessions, I was far better at the Irish dancing. The session itself was one of the most fun things I did in Ireland, learning the various dances and the meaning behind them. Irish dancing, like Gaelic, is very important to the Irish people, even our language instructor know some of the Irish dances. That was not the only place that I saw Irish dancing, it was common at pubs when bands were playing and even people in the crowds joined in. The Irish dancing itself is ... In statistical terms, variation is synonymous with dispersion or spread and can be quantified by statistics, such as the range, the absolute deviation, the standard deviation, the variance and the inter quartile range (e.g. Altman, 1991)19. There is panoply of terms synonymous with variation which tends to be used in a specific context with a certain connotation. The Criterion of Palestinian Environment: In this criterion a section of material in the Gospels is probably authentic if it appears to be fairly literal translation Semitic (Hebrew or Aramaic) idiom into Greek. The Criterion of Dissimilarity: This talks about the Material in the Gospel is authentic if the sayings or deeds of Jesus recorded in the account are dissimilar to those expected from the Judaism of His day or from the practices and theology of the early church. The Criterion of Coherence: In this we find the material is likely early and authentic if it is consistent with material judged to be authentic based on other criteria. How are these criteria used in studies of the Gospel? Because the study of the Gospel during much of the twentieth century was dominated by an approach called criticism, Andrea J. Cummings was an intriguing poet that is known for many poetic ideas. Among them, Cummings was known for his ability to create meaning using structure and his avant garde approach towards language. In his work, Cummings experimented radically with form, punctuation, spelling and syntax, which caused him to abandon traditional techniques and structures to create a new, highly distinctive mean of poetic expression. By introducing this new innovative writing style, Cummings has influenced thousands of poets to carry on with his expression, which is what he had hoped for. The wide range of writing style that Cummings included while composing his poems gave him the title of originality. While some of his poetryis free verse (with no concern for rhyme or meter), many have a recognizable sonnet structure of 14 lines, with an intricate rhyme scheme. E.E. The amount of variation in a trait within a group that is attributed to genetic factors is called its heritability. For intelligence, this has been estimated at 50 percent. If we know a trait has perfect heritability, this knowledge does not enable us to rule out environmental factors in explaining differences between groups. Because of the impact of environmental factors such as education and nutrition on intelligence test performance, even if the heritability of intelligence is high within a particular group, differences in intelligence among groups may be environmentally caused. How Is Strategic Bombing Justified Strategic bombing is a military strategy used in a total war with the goal of defeating the enemy by destroying its morale or its economic ability to produce and transport materiel to the theatres of military operations. This tactic was used by the United States and Britain against the Germans and Japanese in World War II. Strategic bombing is debated on whether the United States and Britain were justified in using it. The United States and Britain used strategic bombing to protect their people from fascist dictators and were justified in doing so. In the beginning of World War II, air forces only attacked militarytargets. This changed once the German Luftwaffe began conducting air raids on British cities, including London, during the summer of 1940, (The Editors of EncyclopГ¦dia Britannica). Strategic bombing soon became a main part of military combat. It was seen to be in the best interest of the country s side in the war. To the British, bombing German cities was a type of revenge. They showed the same amount of mercy for the German civilians as the Germans did for them, which was little to none. What the Allies did in Japan reflects what they did in Europe. Like the British, the U.S. bombed Japan as a response to the Pearl Harbor attack. As was the case in the air war against Germany, military planners experimented with different bombing tactics in order to maximize the damage inflicted on Japan and force a surrender, (The Choices Program). In the 1830s immigrants began to flood New York City, they often lived in poor conditions with compacted living areas. Along with immigrants, there was a small free black community in Manhattan ( History of Cholera in NYC 2012). So the city was packed with different people from all over, many were living in poverty and horses and pigs ran freely in the streets. The environment became crowded and dirty, the perfect breeding ground for disease. Without a proper sewage system, human waste found its way into the City s water supply. As the population of the City grew denser, several outbreaks of cholera occurred. Nearly 100,00 people fled to the countryside, when cholera hit the NYC (McNamara 2015). Many wealthy New Yorkers and those more well off, fled the city during cholera outbreaks in search of more hospitable environment. Those who owned buildings throughout the city refused to lease their spaces for hospitals, in fear of contamination. Most doctors worked to reduce the suffering of cholera victims. During that time, medical knowledge was limited and so were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Five Cognate Strategies Examples The Cognate Strategies That Are Used In Business Writing Rita Ogbeama University of the People Introduction Good writing is about responding to the need of your reader. It must meet their expectations, it must be clear and precise and it must be efficient and effective. Good writing could be logical, ethical, credible or emotional depends on the audience and what you are trying to communicate. (McLean, 2011) For this assignment I will discuss 5out of the nine cognate strategies, I will describe how I implemented them into my own writing in the past and also provide examples of the same. The five cognate strategies I will discuss are: clarity, tone, conciseness, credibility and expectation. Clarity is just as the word ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Phanerozoic Eras The earth has been around for 4.6 billion years, and over this time 99.9% of all of the species that have existed on earth have gone extinct. (Barnosky, et al) Palaeontologists characterize mass extinctions as times in Earth s history when the Earth loses more than three quarters of its species in a geologically short period of time. This has occurred 5 times over the past 540 million years, and scientists are now suggesting it is happening a 6th time. We are in the midst of a sixth mass extinctionthat has the potential to wipe out many species of importance, and humans have a profound impact on it. Essentially, there have been 5 mass extinctions during the history of life on earth. (Wake, Vredenburg) And, the time the earth has existed has been divided up into eons, eras, periods, and epochs based on the geologic strata of that age. (Impey) There are two eons, the Pre cambrian and the Phanerozoic. In the Pre cambrian there are 3 eras, the Haydean, Archean, and the Proterozoic. In the Phanerozoic, there are the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic Eras. In the Paleozoic, there are seven periods, the Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Mississippian, Pennsylvanian, and Permian. Then for Mesozoic there are three periods, Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this extinction, approximately 22% of marine families and about 57% of all marine genera went extinct, this including nearly all jawless fishes. Approximately 3/4 of all species on earth went extinct in this extinction (BBC Big Five Mass Extinction Events). A global cooling event, after bolide impacts, could have been the cause behind this extinction, as warm water taxa were mainly affected by this extinction (Wake, Vredenburg). • 56. The Pros And Cons Of The War On Terrorism Fighting fire with fire, or in this case, fighting terrorism with terrorism. This, simply put, is what many believe to be the solution to terrorism a War on Terror. NATO is well known for being one of the largest and strongest organizations or military alliances in which participating states agree to mutual defense in any event of an external attack. Since the attack of 9/11, NATO, with the lead of the U.S., has been determined to eradicate each and every single terrorist group or any form of terrorism. Over the years, these motivations have sparked countless controversial issues as ethics of this war became increasingly questionable. Although many may support this concept of a War on Terror , it is simply, without question, economically damaging, misleading, and a hopeless attempt to solve the issue of terrorism. In 2011, expenses for the War on Terror were reported by the Pentagon to be about $1 trillion. However, when experts carefully analyzed the data and expenses, they had discovered hidden costs that were left unmentioned by the Pentagon, creating a new total of approximately $4.4 trillion. To put this into perspective, $4.4 trillion is over a fifth of the total U.S. tax revenue from 2001 2011 (about $21 trillion). If just $1 billion in education spending adds $1.3 billion to the economy and creates 17,687 jobs, imagine the benefits from the thousands of billions of dollars that are used to support the War on Terror. As a result, many jobs and economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Origins Criminal Behavior Origins of Criminal Behavior Tara Olivarez University of the Rockies Abstract We spend a large amount of time learning. It should be important to know something about it. Everyone is a learner, and everyone is also a teacher. Even as small children will show another child how to play a game. Most social process theories assume behavior (good or bad) is learned behavior which means that even criminal behavior can be learned through social interactions. Origins of Criminal Behavior In all connections with learning, we find ourselves learning to like or dislike. The learning process is very complex, when we consider the large variety of idea, viewpoints, values and bits of information people have. A great deal of learning is a matter of association or conditioning. Criminal behavior has and will always be a large focus for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... M. (1985).
