The Effects Of Sleep And Variables On Sleep
This paper will cover the scientific study of sleep and variables which impact sleep by examining the
five different stages of sleep, evaluating dreams and nightmares, assessing the causes and effects of
sleep disorders and the various types of treatments, in addition to the effects of food and drugs on
sleep. There are five stages of sleep, numbered one through four and REM (Rapid Eye Movement)
sleep. Upon falling asleep, the brain and body goes through each stage to comprise sleep cycle which
approximately has a duration of 90 minutes. Stage One commences when the body and brain begin to
relax. During this stage, heart beat slows down, breathing becomes regular, and blood pressure tends
to decrease (Huffman. K, 2011, p.174). In addition, brain activity starts to shift, moving from beta
waves to the slower alpha waves. Despite being deeply relaxed in this stage, it is still very easy to be
awakened (Huffman. K, 2011, p.174). Following Stage 1, the mind and body move to Stage Two. In
this stage the body becomes more relaxed so it is less aware of its surroundings (Huffman. K, 2011,
p.174). Short burst of rapid brain waves known as sleep spindles, can be visually observed against the
background of an electroencephalogram (EEG) (Fogel, S. M., Nader, R., Cote, K. A., Smith, C. T.
(2007). Sleep spindles and learning potential. Behavioral Neuroscience, 121(1), 1 10). Following
Stage Two, Stages Three and Four take place. These stages are much deeper levels of sleep because

The Basement Of Ivory Tower
Have you ever had an extraordinary desire for something, only to have someone tell you it is out of
your reach? Does that make you try harder, or completely give up? In Professor X s essay, In the
basement of Ivory Tower, (X) he goes into great detail stating how his students have the desire to
maintain high academic standards in order to receive a promotion, to further their career, or because it
is a job requirement. However, these same students cannot possibly pass their classes due to their lack
of abilities. Initially, I found myself believing the author was hostile and unhappy in his career,
although, the more I read this article I found myself shifting opinions, and I began to appreciate what a
controversial topic college education truly is. Professor X discusses how some students are unfit for
college. I believe that college isn t for everyone. Furthermore, society has set expectations that
everyone should attend college. As a society we have lost track of the value of apprentice programs.
My whole life I have heard that college isn t something you think about doing it is simply something
everyone must do. I cannot help but believe that there are some very valid points to Professor X s
article, for example, when he states that some students are simply unfit for the academic level that
college requires. The author states, Everyone wants to triumph. But not everyone can in fact, most can
t. (X, par. 47) In other words, Professor X believes that some students

Comparing Journeys In Migrant Hostel And The Happiest Refugee
Every individual will undergo many journeys throughout their lifetime without journeys, they would
be limited in experience and knowledge, and this is highlighted in many examples of media and
literature. The nature of journeys also have an impact on the individual; the journey may be harsh,
stressful or confusing. Anh Do s The Happiest Refugee (2010) and Peter Skrzynecki s Migrant Hostel
(1975) are two texts that convey the transformative, unstable, segregative and communicative nature
of journeys.
Journeys have a profound impact on the individual, and provocative experiences and new knowledge
often cause a re evaluation of perspectives of both oneself and their surroundings. In The Happiest
Refugee, the transformative nature of journeys is explored as Do undergoes a series of inner journeys

In Migrant Hostel, it is said that nationalities sought each other out instinctively like a homing pigeon.
This statement is reciprocated in The Happiest Refugee, when Do describes how new Vietnamese
refugees stayed with his family. The communicative nature of journeys is therefore explored in both
texts by highlighting how shared experiences and cultures bring people together. The segregative
nature is also explored when it is said that [nationalities were] partitioned off... by memories of hunger
and hate . The quote shows that conflicting pasts also segregate people in journeys, reinforced by the
harsh alliteration of the h . This is shown in The Happiest Refugee when Do is presented with the
hardest gig of his life where he must present in front of Vietnam War veterans. The veterans are hostile
at first, greeting Anh with silence; another example of how conflicting pasts can segregate people.

Pollution And Environmental Pollution
Environmental health is your wellbeing of your surroundings or conditions in which a human, animal,
or plant lives or produces. There things effect your air pollution like carbon monoxide you can get
things like asthma. Also there fresh water there different type of water depend where you live. Finally
there is way to increase your environmental health and those around you.
Cars and trucks produce air pollution throughout their life, carrying pollution emitted during vehicle
service, refueling, construction, and disposal. Additional emissions are combined with the refini ary
and secondary pollution. Primary pollution is emitted directly into the air; secondary pollution results
from chemical reactions between toxins in the atmosphere. The accompanying are the principal
pollutants from motor vehicles. These particles of soot and metals give smog its dark color.
Fine particles less than one tenth the width of an individual hair give the most significant hazard to
individual condition, as they can penetrate far into lungs. PM is a leading primary pollution and a
secondary pollution from hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxides. Diesel exhaust is a
significant donor to PM pollution.

Essay On The Disability Rights Movement
The disability rights movement was credited to all the people who have worked for years organizing
and attending protests, licking envelopes, sending out alerts, drafting legislation, speaking, testifying,
negotiating, lobbying, filing lawsuits, getting arrested they believed in doing whatever they could for a
cause . In 1973, there was a shift in the disability, public policy (Section 504 of the 1973
Rehabilitation Act). Section 504 was amended to a civil rights statute that prohibits discrimination
against individuals with disabilities. Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (Title II),
which extends this prohibition against discrimination to the full range of state and local government
services, programs, and activities (including public schools) regardless of whether they receive any
Federal financial assistance . The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008
(Amendments Act), effective January 1, 2009, amended the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990

An Exploration Of The Modern American Hobo Through Memoir
Where have all the hobos gone to :
An Exploration of the Modern American Hobo Through Memoir
Perhaps you have heard about them in songs like Harry McClintock s Big Rock Candy Mountain or
John Prine s The Hobo Song . Maybe you ve read about them in the stories like Horatio Alger s Tony,
the Tramp or seen them depicted in animated cartoon shorts like Merry Melodies Hobo Gadget Band .
They go by a variety of names: hobo, tramp, vagabond, bum, traveler. When asked to describe a hobo
perhaps you recall the Norman Rockwell painting Hobo and Dog complete with patchwork clothes,
stick and bindle. Maybe you imagine a depression era young man sitting in a box car or a villainous
old transient out to cause harm. As John Prine s The Hobo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While this practice was somewhat tolerated, it was in contrast to the era s idea of the hard working,
self made man and was considered to be lazy and cowardly (995). Tramps were demonized [by
cultural elites who] failed to acknowledge the vital role [such a] mobile population played in the
project of US industrialization (997). A strange juxtaposition formed. The idea that hard work always
paid off was in stark contrast with the fact that there was a real lack of consistent work opportunities.
Instead of the upper class seeing the need for transiency in order for these workers to survive, the
tramp was seen as willfully living on the fringe of society and removing themselves from fundamental
American institutions (998). The upper and middle class viewed the tramp as lacking work ethic and
morality, giving rise to the stereotype that they possessed the potential to be dangerous and wild (998).
This was further epitomized by the railroad strike of 1877. The violence of these strikes created a
perfect situation to further the stereotype of the dangerous and wild hobo, as Photinos describes in her
article, The Tramp in Gilded Age Success Narratives : Eighty thousand striking railroad workers were
joined in the streets of the nation s cities by thousands of other laborers suffering from repeated wage
cuts as well as by throngs of homeless and jobless.

How Does Mark Twain Use An Aa Rhyme Scheme
Life and Poems of Mark Twain Mark Twain is, and has been one of the best writers in history. His
writings are still used today in many different ways. His life was a rather volatile one, but he still
wrote many poems, stories, and books. His importance in this essay is his poems, and they expressed a
lot of different ideas in them.
Samuel Clemens, also known by his pen name, Mark Twain, was born on November thirtieth, 1835, in
the small town of Florida, Missouri. His two parents were John and Jane Clemens. In 1839, the
Clemens family moved to the town of Hannibal, Missouri. This was a port city with many boats. Mark

It is called Those Annual Bills . The poem has a AABB/CCAA/DDAA rhyme scheme. This adds some
interest to the poem because there is a refrain of rhyme scheme. AA is contained in every stanza. This
allows for the repetition of annual bills to take place in every stanza as there is an AA rhyme scheme
to contain it. The repetition of annual bills adds meaning to the poem by repeating the main focus of
the poem and making it sound bad. The poem starts with a first stanza consisting of statements of what
the annual bills have done. It talks about bills as a discord, and gets readers to think bills are
frustrating. There is the personification, ...skinned by last year s lot! This emphasizes that annual bills
are bad and disappointing. The second stanza repeats the fact that the bills are frustrating. It makes
bills sound like they take away important parts about life. The third and final stanza focuses on the
people that are affected by the bills. It states that the people that collect the bills are duns, and that
other poets will also write poems about their dislikes of bills. The poem ends off that

The Montessori Method Of Teaching Essay

interviewee believes or understands the Montessori Method. I am asking this question to see if the
interviewee has a deep understanding about applying Montessori Method to the classroom. I expect
the interviewee says something like: that Montessori Method of teaching that is depended on self
directed activity, hands on learning and cooperative play. In Montessori environment children make
creative choices in their learning, while the teacher prepares the environment and provides age
appropriate activities to support the process. Children work in groups or individually to discover and

respects the unique of individuality of each child. Dr. Montessori believed in the worthiness, value and
importance of children. It is founded on the belief that children should learn to succeed without
restriction. The interviewee doesn t necessarily have to say exactly the above. She/he could simply
mention about child s freedom to choose work without any interruption or about preparing the
environment. I will especially look for her understanding about the freedom choices in the Montessori
Method and her willingness to follow the philosophy.

The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir Summary
In both the worlds of existential feminism and radical feminism, the housewife is separated a degree
below other women, as a figure deemed lesser, or even other, form women within the feminist
movement. In Simone de Beauvoir s 1949 novel The Second Sex, the housewife embodies the
feminine other, a woman who takes the reason men subjugated women, embraces it, and then uses it to
her advantage. She becomes the example of how women adapt and survive in the patriarchy, and the
women who sacrifices her autonomy to live in comfort and safety, rather than attempt to reform
society. Beauvoir makes the housewife the definition of the feminine other to justify how women
sacrifice their autonomy and ability to obtain transcendence if they remain complacent in male society.
What defines women as the other is not found in the state of nature or social history but in her biology
and the overbearing consequences of her ability to become pregnant. In Beauvoir s work, Women are
inherently different from men in the biology and how omnipresent it is in their lives, and biology
defines women because at the time she wrote The Second Sex the consequences of sex permeated
every aspect of daily life. With birth control still difficult to obtain, the consequences of sex are at the
forefront of a women s mind, and if she wants to be sexually active, she must constantly consider the
impacts another life will have on her finances, her home, her relationships and her work, if she is able
to find it. A

Loneliness And Pain With A Drizzle Of Mixed Emotions About...
Heartache and pain with a drizzle of mixed emotions about life as an independent woman is what Kate
Chopin was confronted with and it is what she wrote about in her short stories. We are talking about a
woman before her time that challenged all to see the world through representations of reality. She was
able to see the world for what it was during a difficult time for people of color and women battling to
have equal rights. Repeatedly, she wrote about death, exotic thoughts, superficial love and real life
issues however, the stories she wrote often portrayed some form of the life events and struggles that
she in fact faced herself. As a young girl Kate was exposed to, and witnessed many events that helped

Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia Essay
Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia is a type of dwarfism. Dwarfism is a disorder can happen because of
several different reasons. This type of dwarfism occurs because of a defective gene from at least one
parent that is passed down to its offspring, but could also occur because of a new mutation in the gene
passed down. Although there are different types of dwarfism they all cause the person to be short, and
sometimes disfigured or distorted. This type and most of the others not only affect the persons legs,
but can also effect different parts of their body. There are treatments to help with these other problems
that go with dwarfism, but you can not fully get rid of it. Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia mostly occurs
in a child when one of their parents passes down a defective gene to them. Around 80 percent of these
people have average size parents though, this can be caused by new mutations that have developed in
the parent or parents gene that gets passed down to their offspring. Their average size is dwarf was
below 4 10 , but still above 4 . Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia is also commonly referred to as SED.

Stagecoach Movie Film Analysis
The western movie I pick is John Ford s movie Stagecoach (1939). The movie is about a group of
people traveling together by stagecoach from the town Tonto to Lordsburg. The people traveling
together are a diverse group of people. All of them have the specific motivation for going, but they all
share the same goal reaching to Lordsburg. The characters are Dallas who s a prostitute, Mrs. Lucy
Mallory who is the wife of the Army Cavalry officer, Ellsworth Henry Gatewood who is a banker,
Hatfield who is a gambler, Samuel Peacock who is whiskey salesman, Doc Josiah Boone who is a
alcoholic doctor, Buck Rickabaugh who is a stage driver, Marshal Curley Wilcox who is a marshal
riding shotgun, and Ringo Kid who is an escaped outlaw.

The cinematography is by Bert Glennon. The expectations for this film is that it has to be western
because it s the genre. The movie needs to have action and movement. And have a heroic character.
The expectations are high since a lot of people watch Western genre. I don t see any manipulation of
space and time.
The story formula for Stagecoach structures around characters in the Tonto and introducing the
characters, traveling to Lordsburg, stopping at Dry Fork way station for food and unforgettable dinner
table scene, traveling towards Apache Wells in the snow, Mrs. Mallory s baby born in Apache Wells,
finally getting to Lordsburg but got attacked by the Indians, and ended with Ringo Kid in a shooting
conflict. Stagecoach did a great job in the characters types. There are the protagonists, prostitute,
gambler, schoolmarm. These are the specific character types in Western movies. The setting of the
movie is on point. It s in the American West and takes place in the 1880s. The location of Monument
Valley is a favorite location for John Ford. The presentation of Stagecoach has many great exterior
shots that collocate the characters with the environment they occupy. The stars in Stagecoach does fit
in a Western movie. Like John Wayne, he stars in many Western movies. What makes Stagecoach a
western is the traditional western theme. Like the fight between whites and Native Americans. There
is a good use of the American West s open plains and mountains.

Comparing the Feminine Quest in Surfacing and Song of...
The Feminine Quest in Surfacing and Song of Solomon
Margaret Atwood in her novel Surfacing and Toni Morrison in her novel Song of Solomon require
their heroines to pass through a stage of self interpretation as a prerequisite for re inventing the self.
This stage in the feminine journey manifests a critical act typically absent in the traditional male
journey, and one that places Atwood and Morrison s heroines at odds with the patriarchal community.
If authors of feminine journeys meet the requirements set out by feminist critics like Dana Heller, then
we must also provide a method for interpreting the texts that will be palatable for critics from the
patriarchy. Otherwise we perpetuate an hostility between the camps that ... Show more content on

But as conditions in real life changed, the structure and impact of the old stories failed to keep pace,
and we found ourselves with a confusing mismatch of perceived roles and desired roles.
The revised male journey became flight from women and from the influence of others according to
Heller thus creating the literary label of anti hero (24). He still journeyed, but he kept the boon to
himself (it was a lesser one anyway). If for some reason he does pass back through his sponsoring
community, he is not received as a prince returning home..
The revised female journey became more fully hers, but like the male anti hero, the Jane Eyres and
Emma Bovarys become social outcasts and outlaws for refusing to remain in their duly assigned roles.
For a satisfactory conclusion to these stories, the audience required death or marriage still generally
portrayed as a final submission to patriarchal authority.
Dana Heller tells us now that Women s quests must propose strategies for escaping debilitating
structures, for discovering authentic selfhood, and for claiming the right to take her journey out into
the world (13). Heller expresses here an imperative to current and future writers of the feminine
journey to generate stories that accord the heroine

Writing And Writing Of Beowulf
When someone says Beowulf what usually comes to mind is the 4,000 line epic poem. Instead think of
Beowulf: The Graphic Novel. A Scandinavian classic portrayed in a series of vividly colored
illustrations. While English majors and Literature enthusiasts alike cringe at such a decimation of
literary art, teachers jump for joy at a potential reading tool. In our ever changing society, novels are
being translated into comics, graphic novels, and even manga. The illustrated pages should be used to
promote reading and writing.
Everyone can recognize a novel as a book that tells a fictional story. Not many people know about
comic books, graphic novels and manga. There is a difference between these picture books. Comic
books were traditionally staple bound, but during the recent resurgence they were hardbound to better
endure wear and tear. Comics center themselves around the misadventures of its protagonist. Graphic
novels focus more on telling a single story. Graphic novels are bound like paperback books. Manga is
originally the Japanese version of comics. Manga can be viewed as a cross between comics and
graphic novels. It most often consists of a group s misadventures on the way to achieving a goal.
Manga is also bound as a paperback, and its most distinct attribute is the book reads right to left
instead of left to right.

Chemical Formula Review
Chemical Formulas Review: Nomenclature and Formula Writing
Naming Simple Compounds
There are four naming systems you should familiarize yourself with to succeed on the SAT II
Chemistry exam. The trick is recognizing which naming system to use. Here are the guidelines: * If
the compound starts with H, it is an acid. Use the naming acids rules. * If the compound starts with C
and contains quite a few H s and perhaps some O s, it is organic. Use the naming organic compounds
rules. * If the compound starts with a metal, it is most likely ionic. Use the naming binary ionic
compounds rules. * If the compound starts with a nonmetal other than H or C, use the naming binary
molecular compounds rules.

Acids have enough H+ added to the anion to make the compound neutral. Supply either the acid s

acid | H3PO4 | | H3PO3 | | | Hydrocyanic acid | HC2H3O2 | | | Carbonic acid | | Hydroiodic acid | HF | |
Naming Organic Compounds
How do you know it s organic? The formula will start with a C followed by H s. Most of the organic
carbons you will encounter will be either hydrocarbons or alcohols, and luckily for you, these are the
simplest of all to name. Learn the list of prefixes in the table following this section: they correspond to
the number of carbons present in the compound. The following silly statement will help you
remember the order of the first four prefixes since they are not ones you are familiar with: Me eat
peanut butter. This corresponds to meth , eth , prop , and but , which correspond to one, two, three,
and four carbons, respectively.
Now that we have a stem, we need an ending. There are three common hydrocarbon endings; the
ending changes depending on the structure of the molecule: * ane = alkane (all single bonds and
saturated); CnH2n+2; saturated: it contains the maximum number of H s * ene = alkene (contains
double bond, unsaturated); CnH2n *

Charles Absolute Monarchy
King Charles I of England was the first king in England that tried to have an absolute monarchy. An
absolute monarchy is different than the constitutional monarchy of the kings and queens before him
were trying to have. An absolute monarchy is where the monarch has all the power and there are no
nobles or anyone interfering with the king s rule; a constitutional monarchy is where the king or queen
acts as the Head of State, and the Parliament makes the laws, not the monarch. King Charles s strong
will created conflicts with government, which ended up establishing a civil war his execution. In
1625, Charles became the king¹, and three months after his accession, he happily married Henrietta
Maria of France². However, his reign began with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Charles was trying to spread a new prayer book in countryside of Scotland, even though
Scotland was heavily neglected in Charles s early rule. The prayer book was met with much
resistance; Charles already claimed all land in Scotland, including the Church s land, was subject to
being taken away. Met with high resistance in Scotland, King Charles tried to resolve the conflict by
swordpoint and had to call Parliament because his side of the conflict was not ready to go to battle,
because he had a small amount of money. Almost at the same time, military rebellion happened in
Ireland in November 1641, and Charles attempted to arrest five Parliament legislators. Civil war
erupted in 1642, and Charles was defeated in 1646. Scottish forces handed the king back to
Parliament, and King Charles was then tried for treason in 1648. King Charles I got a trial and was
executed for treason against England.
An argument for Charles could state that none of this was Charles s fault because the civilians were
simply outrageous. However, it is commonly known that the predecessor of Charles I, Elizabeth I, was
beloved by all her subjects because she treated them fairly and gave Parliament power. Charles,
however, thought it was him and only him who should rule England. This is what caused his downfall:
his inability to listen to other members of the government. His plans to create an absolute monarchy
ultimately backfired because of his unfair treatment of his subjects and inability to manage financial

Fatalism In The Lady Finger
Joint family and close association between family members is the greatest characteristics of the
Pakistani society. Sdiqa s house was a big house. Many relatives visited this house and stayed there.
Particularly in case of some ceremony or distress, many relatives came to share such occasions.
Sadiqa s friendship with Imran came out an account of his characteristic. Thus the story, The Lady
Finger presents a true picture of our society in a very convincing manner.
The story, The Lady Finger, has the characteristics of both fatalism and feminism. But the fatalism has
been dealt with loudly. In other words, the story opens with romantic of an adopted girl and proceeds
along the growth of the girl. The story writer develops the story the story taking the norms of society
into account. Certainly, human beings around girl, though unconsciously, are taking the girl. However,
the greater cause of the girl s troubles is not human beings. It is her fate.
Feminism or the subject treating the troubles of women has been covered from various angels. For
example, in Pakistan, girls are married before they reach maturity. Such early marriage does not allow
girls to grow socially as well as educationally and they fall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

feminism. The story deals with the subject at true levels. First, it brings miseries of women to light.

San Bernardino Terrorist Attacks Case
Apple vs the Government agency (FBI) in the San Bernardino Terrorist attacks case. Ethics and
Morality are defined as the distinction of right and wrong. On the other hand morals are also largely
based on the social values of good and bad. However, people tend to define them as the standards and
customs that guide the way of life towards good. In most cases of ethics and morality they are
referring to acts of both good and bad deeds. Nonetheless, in a recent case with the FBI vs. the
Government against Apple Inc. Company arose one of the key moral issues in the business world.
Apple refused to offer a backdoor to one of the iPhones considered to be of the terrorists. The ethical
issue involved two genuine values; privacy and security. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apple mentioned also in their letter to their customers that they were against terrorism. They
continued to state that as a company they did everything in their power to help the FBI in investigating
this case and catch these criminals. However, Apple did not want to risk its customer s privacy
because it was found that most apple product users store data such as private conversations, photos,
music, notes, calendars and contacts, financial information and health data in their devices. Since
Apple operates their company based on certain values one of them being safeguarding their customer s
data, this prompted decision to deny the FBI the software or backdoor that would ve risked the privacy
of millions of iPhone users. The FBI however is willing to do just about anything to solve a case, one
that especially involves serious criminals investigates. Keeping this in mind you can see why the FBI
refused to think morally in favor of Apple and how this backdoor software would ve tarnished the
reputation and decreased business for this company. However it is concluded both of these parties did
what was ethically right for their independent situations, but as you can see what is ethically right for
one situation is not necessarily right for another

Detrimental Effects Of Ocean Acidification
A burden which lays on the shoulders of today s man is that of climate change, namely, global
warming. However, this evil has many ignored byproducts, some which are equally detrimental. In
this thesis, we will write about the effects of one of the greatest of this, ocean acidification, known as
global warming s equally evil twin .
When scientists first discovered ocean acidification, they thought that it might be a good thing for
mankind, a helping hand in the war against excess carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. You see, ocean
acidification is essentially the process in which our oceans absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide,
gradually (although becoming faster) making our ocean more and more acidic. So when scientists
discovered this, they believed

The Leadership Styles And Behavioral Analysis
Introduction
Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer but the right answer. Let us not seek
to fix the blame for the past let us accept our own responsibility for the future
John F. Kennedy, 35th US President.
This paper describes about the Leadership styles and Behavioral analysis of former U.S. president
John F. Kennedy.
Elected in 1960 as the 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy was the youngest man to
hold that office. He was born on May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts to Joseph P. Kennedy, a
self made multimillionaire who led the Exchange commission and securities under Franklin D.
Roosevelt and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. He parlayed an elite education and a reputation as a military
hero for his successful run into congress in 1946. His entrance into politics surprised his college
mates. He never enjoyed campaigning, but was elected, and won the Senate in 1952. He served in both
the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate before becoming the 35th president in 1961.
After earning his party s nomination for vice president in 1956, he announced his candidacy for
president on January 2, 1960. Kennedy outmaneuvered his main opponent, Hubert Humphrey with
superior organizations and financial resources, Selecting Senate majority leader, Lyndon Johnson of

us down the road to civil rights. In the beginning of his film, he briefly mentions that even a century

of segregation; he views segregation as something that ll never fade even years after the freeing, there

The Romanticism in Wordsworth
Romantic poetry has very distinct details which set it apart from previous poetry. William Wordsworth
s poem, I Wandered Lonely As A
Cloud, is full of the Romantic characteristics which were so different during that time.
The poem begins with the speaker floating along, as though he or she were a cloud, when he or she
spots a crowd/ ..., of golden daffodils
(Wordsworth, 3,4).
The speaker goes on to describe the daffodils and the lake that is beside them. The images of the
daffodils return to mind during a difficult time , and cheers him up. It is important to note that the
speaker is speaking in first person. As this is a commonly used technique in romantic poetry, it is easy
to assume ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first line of the poem, the speaker is metaphorically referred to as a cloud. Then, the speaker s
feelings are transmitted onto the daffodils, actually giving the daffodils his feelings. By doing this, the
reader can associate his or her own feelings in a similar manner. It allows the reader to envision
exactly how the speaker is feeling. This type of reverence for nature is a strong characteristic of
Romantic poetry.
Another important Romantic element used in this poem is the emotional one in human beings. This
poem is full of emotion on the part of the speaker. He even views the daffodils as having such
emotion. There is a progressive change, even an emotional maturity, taking place in him based on
what is happening in the poem. The speaker speaks first of his loneliness which later turns to joy.
Then, while in a depressed state, is able to return to that bliss by the simple remembrance of what he
saw.
Romanticism also focuses on the desire to understand what influences the mind. In the final stanza,
the speaker s loneliness is, once again, pushed away by the remembrance of the dancing daffodils. The
speaker has discovered that by him associating with nature, he can change the tone of the inward eye
(21). Memory, as is important in this poem, serves a great purpose. It allows one to simply forget what
is happening in one s life for just a moment, and reflect on something that brought peace and meaning

Drugs
Cocaine and crack are among the most addictive substances known to modern science, and they have
already ruined the lives of millions of Americans (Morganthau and Miller, 208). Cocaine and crack are
both dangerous, harmful drugs. Though pleasurable effects can be obtained from these drugs, the use
of crack and cocaine cannot be worth the actual consequences that are inflicted on mind and body. The
bad effects of these drugs, by far outweigh the good. Because crack and cocaine are so closely related,
it is important to have a firm understanding of both drugs. Cocaine (coke) is made from the

More specifically, crack is crystallized freebase cocaine. Freebasing is where cocaine hydrochloride is
mixed with ammonium hyroxide ether. This solution is then heated, the ether evaporated, and leaves
freebase cocaine which is then smokes (Zonderman and Shader, 65). This process is called cooking .
The crack residue is a solid crystalline substance that is broken into chips or pieces resembling gravel
(Edwards, 76). Crack is the smokable form of cocaine, and can only be taken into the body by
smoking it. Smoking crack cocaine introduces it into the system faster than other methods
(Zonderman and Shader, 660. To smoke it, the crystalline chips are either put into a glass pipe and
smoked, or crushed and smoked in a marijuana joint. The chips change to smoke when heated, which
is inhaled, drawn into the lungs, and then diffused rapidly into the bloodstream (Edwards, 77). The
little sacs of the lungs are lined with fatty tissue that readily absorbs the fat soluble crack (Mickey, 2).
Circulating blood transports the dissolved cocaine to the brain where it has immediate effect
(Edwards, 77). Crack reaches the brain within seven seconds (Mickey, 2). The effect, called a rush, is
caused by the almost pure cocaine s assault on the brain and central nervous system. The central
nervous system responds by involuntary movement of the muscles, increased body temperature, and
an overstimulation of the pleasure centers of the brain. The high

What Is The Real Igbo Religion In Things Fall Apart
Chinua Achebe chose to include a native Igbo religion in for Umuofia Village culture in his novel

he bases on a historic Nigerian religion. That historic religion was known as Awka Oracle that was

fictional Agbala Oracle are strikingly similar. The real Awka Oracle was destroyed and entire villages
were wiped out in retaliation for the killing of one British subject. Thomas Liu recounts the events as

Themes of Hipocrisy in ‘Tartuffe’ by Moliere
Hypocrisy as a common theme throughout literature has often been advocated by the author s use of
concealing the true characteristics or meaning of the character. Tartuffe by Moliere is an amazing neo
classical drama, where it portrays the contradictory relationship between appearance and reality in
terms of hypocrisy. In one hand, Tartuffe, the religious hypocrite, who always wears a false mask of
untrue righteousness to deceive others around him, on the other hand in reality he turns out to be the
falsifier. Despite Tartuffe is treacherous in his undertakings and manages to deceive some people,
however he cannot help but reveals his true nature/characteristics whenever he is confronted by
sincere individuals. In another sense, he fails to realize that there are at least some people who has the
right knowledge and will be able to identify his true instinct. I believe by using Tartuffe as a model of
religious hypocrite , Moliere superbly demonstrates the logic that although the inherent tendency of a
hypocrite is to manipulate others with his deceitful virtue, yet he will only be able to misguide
individuals, who are insincere and unwise.
From one hand, a hypocrite is easily capable of manipulating the one, who does not have sincerity or
who is inattentive with his/her personal dealings. According to the play, Tartuffe manages to impress
Orgon by showing off his piety (Act 1, scene 5, line 36 40) and his generosity as an alms giver (Act 1,
scene 5, line 55). I believe

Integrate Spirituality into Mental Health Care
Spirituality, Religion and Mental Health
Since science and religion had started to draw apart in European thinking from the 16th century, by
the time Western psychology and psychiatry developed, religion had become marginalized in Western
academic thinking as so the disciplines that emerged were secular. Ideas about spirituality a part of the
discourse within religion not science were excluded from both psychiatry and Western psychology as
these disciplines strove increasingly to become scientific (Fernando, 2007).
The mental health field has a heritage of 100 years of ignoring and pathologizing spiritual experiences
and religion (Lukoff, 2000). In 1994, a new diagnostic category called Religious or Spiritual Problem
was introduced in the DSM IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric
Association). For the first time, there is acknowledgement of distressing religious and spiritual
experiences as nonpathological problems. As a co author of the new category, Lukoff and Turner
(1995) indicated that adequate training is not proved by most graduate programs and internship sites to
prepare them to deal with religion and spirituality issues.
The DSM IV (American Psychiatric Association, 2000) provides guidelines for distinguishing
between content that reflects psychosis and content that is normative in the area of spirituality. First,

Gas audibly leaked out at high pressure, ignited and exploded and produces a catastrophic fire which

Physiological And Psychological Benefits Of Sports Massage...
Physiological and psychological benefits of sports massage treatment
Within this section I will be combining the benefits of both physiological and psychological influences
as they both link together within some benefits of sports massage.
Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous system benefits (Physiological)
Sports massage also allows us to have beneficial effects on the sympathetic and parasympathetic
nervous system. Massage allows us to increase these responses by stimulating them more allowing us
to increase the athlete s performance rate and also the increase of sufficient the body works. Within the
sympathetic system we are able to increase the stimulation rate before the activity. This can benefit
athletes by making them prepare quicker to the activity ahead of them, allowing them to increase their
performance rate. Within the parasympathetic system we are able to also increase the sufficiency of
this, allowing athletes to recover quicker and reach an anabolic state quicker. For example, doing a
massage on a marathon runner will allow us to increase their sympathetic nervous system reaction
before the race by preparing them before they run, e.g. increased heart rate, allowing the athlete to
increase their performance rate. After the race, the parasympathetic nervous system will allow the
runner to recover and reduce their working rate more sufficiently and faster. Also stimulating the
nerves more, allows us to increase the speed of the action potential being

The Upanishads And Other Religions Can Help The World Move...
The Upanishads, a main Hinduism concept, teaches a way of thinking and living that is righteous and
moral, but just like every religion concept it also leads to some follower s social outlook to become
prejudice and harsh. First, I am going to show how the Upanishads helps people become more moral
by showing how one has to give up their selfishness and desires to become a part one with everything
else. Then I am going to convey how it can hurt a person s social outlook if used to create a hierarchy.
Lastly I am going to show how the Upanishads and other religions can help the world move toward a

So by teaching oneness and togetherness the Upanishads is helping people see that they need to care

Then there is also the side to the Upanishads concept that all religions have which is making most
followers believe that their teachings are the only truth and want to preserve their truth. This is
dangerous because it leads to a set in stone way of thinking that causes there to be inequality and
discrimination within the religion. One specific part of the Upanishads that leads to this type of one
truth mindset is karma. In the Supreme Teaching section of the Upanishads it states that depending on
what a person does in their life they either become good or become evil (Mascaró 140). This is in
reference to reincarnation, but is a dangerous way of thinking because it may lead people to believe
that a person s situation of living is justified because they deserve it, even if they are in a very difficult
living condition. People who believe that they deserve it will feel the need to let the ones who need
help the most to fend for themselves because of this way of thinking that they deserve whatever

connective tissue, muscular tissue, and nervous tissue. Several sublevels exist for each type of tissue.
Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces and lines body cavities. The three main kinds of Epithelial
tissue are squamous which is composed of flat cells, cuboidal, which is composed of cube shaped
cells, and columnar which is composed of stretched, pillar like cells. Each type of epithelial tissue can
be either simple or stratified. Simple is one layer of cells, while stratified has more than one layer.
Each type can also be glandular. Glands can be either one epithelial cell or multiple cells. Its purpose
is to secrete products into different parts of the body or outside of the body. Exocrine glands secrete
their products into ducts or directly into a tube/cavity. Endocrine glands secrete their products directly
into the bloodstream. Examples of epithelial tissue are the linings of lungs, kidneys, small intestine,
and the nose. A common trait that all epithelial tissue have is that they are attached to the basement
membrane, a thin layer of proteins that anchors to connective

Bitter And Sweet Quotes
He d do what he always did, find the sweet among the bitter (265). In the book the Hotel on the
Corner of Bitter and Sweet, the Panama Hotel is on the corner of Chinatown and Japantown. The hotel
is located between the two cultures Henry is tied to, the Japanese and the Chinese. The story takes
place in Henry s past when he first meets Keiko and the present, after his wife, Ethel, has died. The
hotel acts as the connection in between the two cultures and the two time periods, and symbolizes how
Henry does too. The hotel also acted as a placeholder that would be there for him sometime in the
future (252). In the beginning Henry thought, his own broken heart might be found there, but when
Henry decided to explore the hotel he found Keiko ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the new owner was bringing the belongings up from the hotel, Bud, the owner of the record
store, said, I mean they board up that whole building, what, around 1950? And then the new owner
buys it, goes inspecting, and finds all that stuff sealed up all those years (35). This represents how
Henry s relationship was left in the 50 s and then he tells Marty about it and finds out that he is
actually quite similar to his dad. The book also mentions that Henry s father rarely acknowledged
anything in the Japanese community in a positive light. This [the Panama Hotel] being the only
exception (120). The appreciation of the hotel shows that the hotel is in the literally common ground
of the two cultures. Henry is the hotel in the way that he is both part of Japantown because of his
connection with Keiko and when he went to visit her and the other Japanese in the camps. He also is
part of Chinatown because that s where he lives and where he is from. The book also described the
hotel as, the colorful marquee that once lit up the dark streets now was riddles with empty sockets and
broken fixtures the once warm glow, a reflection of how much hope Henry had had as a young boy, sat
covered in decades of rust and neglect (37). This shows how both the hotel and Henry lost their hope

Essay on Prayer Should Be Allowed in Public Schools
Prayer Should Be Allowed in Public Schools School prayer is a very controversial issue in today s
society. The issue of school prayer is about whether the public school systems should let the students
pray, at the start of the school day, as a class. The issue of school prayer began in the late sixteenth
century when people in England did not approve of the way one religion was forced upon them, so the
Puritans, known as the Pilgrims decided to come to the colonies. Even in the colonies the Pilgrims had
problems with religion they had to sometimes resort to highly creative strategies in order to pray.
When people were caught having a secret service they would have to face the consequences that the
law enforced, whether it was going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prayer should allowed in the public school system because prayer is an important part of America s
rich spiritual heritage. All throughout the history of America there have been many important
documents written of our country that have references to Almighty God, Thy Blessings, and Our
dependence upon Thee. These include: the Declaration of Independence, the Gettysburg Address, the
national anthem, and the presidential oath (Haas, 1995, p. 39). In school students always say the
pledge, which states, One Nation Under God. A prayer says that students just want to ask for a good
day and guidance throughout the day. Not only do important documents of our country refer to God
but also the words In God We Trust are engraved on all coins minted and bills pressed in the United
States (1995, p. 39). There are two parts of the American tradition and they are prayer and religion
(1995, p. 39). If society keeps prayer out of the public schools, they are teaching the students that
traditions are not important and that what this country was founded upon does not matter. Does society
want to raise a group of young people to disrespect what their forefathers wanted; religious freedom?
If that is the case then why do people try to keep this country working at its prime when trouble
occurs? People do not want to see this nation fall but in the end it

Similarities Between Elizabeth Bennet And Margaret Hale
To begin, the protagonists Elizabeth Bennet and Margaret Hale gain personal triumphs by rejecting
traditional social confines in their relationships, in society, and in their own personal fulfillment.
Firstly, the characters gain personal success when they ascend the traditional social constructs in their
relationships. In the novel, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, the strong female protagonist
Elizabeth Bennet rejects the marriage proposal of Mr. Collins, the heir to the entailed Bennet estate,
and clergyman for the estate of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. When Elizabeth refuses Mr. Collins
proposal he is (put into a stupor/aghast) and cannot accept it so she tells him, I do assure you sir that I

Collins makes her reject his offer of marriage. Marrying Mr. Collins would not only provide for
Elizabeth s mother and sisters in the event of her father s death, by keeping the estate within their
family, it would also admit Elizabeth into a higher society, and provide her with a position, and
financial security. In the 19th century Elizabethan society, women struggled to marry someone
financially prosperous, if not in the higher society themselves. Despite being offered such a beneficial
marriage Elizabeth defies the established expectation that a women if presented security in a
relationship should accept it. Similar to Elizabeth, Margaret Hale also rejects a prosperous suitor. In
the novel, North and South, Margaret rejects the marriage proposal of Henry Lennox, who is a
financially prosperous, young lawyer, of high status. When Mr. Lennox proposes to Margaret she
declares, I have always thought of you as a friend; and, please, I would rather go on thinking of you
so. I don t like to be spoken to as you have been doing. I cannot answer you as you want me to do...
(Gaskell 25). Margaret s view of Mr. Lennox as a friend prevents her from accepting his

Essay about A Review of the Opening Sequence of Pretty Woman
A Review of the Opening Sequence of Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman is a romantic comedy, which is based on the stories of Cinderella, the Prince and the
Pauper and My fair lady. The film was produced in 1990 and directed by Garry Marshall. It is set in
the Hollywood hills and the rough Hollywood Boulevard. Richard Gere and Julia Roberts play the two
main characters, Vivien Ward and Edward Lewis. Edward is a wealthy man who is respected and
admired by others. Whereas Vivien is a lot poorer. Her only way of earning money is by her job as a
prostitute in Hollywood Boulevard.
In the film the music is very important. At the beginning it is set at a party. It is Edward s party so it is
very posh and classy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are also wearing lots of expensive jewellery like gold necklaces, bracelets, rings etc. Just by
looking at the people at the party you can tell straight away that they have lots of money and can
afford to buy expensive clothes and jewellery for parties.
When you first see Edward he is upstairs in his office away from the party. The walls in his office are
just plain white with not a lot of decoration and he is wearing a plain grey suit which is quite dull and
lifeless this is a signifier that he is a businessman and that he doesn t like to wear bright colourful
clothes and that he prefers to stay wearing neutral colours.
In contrast the first time we see Vivien we can see straight away that she lives a completely different
lifestyle to Edward. The first part we see of her that we see is her underwear when she is just waking
up. We don t see her face until the next shot of her when she is getting out of bed. When she gets up
she puts on some jewellery but it looks very cheap and tacky, this contrasts which the type of
jewellery the people at Edward s party were wearing. Once Vivien is out of bed we see what sort of
clothes she wears at night when she is out on the Hollywood Boulevard. She puts on an all in one
outfit which is a white top which is very short and very tight on her. It is attached to

Luna Woke To A Loud Thud. She Got Out Of Her Bed, Worried
Luna woke to a loud thud. She got out of her bed, worried about what she might see.
She went to the door, carefully opening it keeping her horn ready. On the other side of the door was
the last thing she expected to see. She saw a mailmare.
I have a letter for you, the mare said.
Thank you Luna grabbed the letter with her magic. Do you have any idea who sent it.
Nope. Some pony gave me this on the street and told me to give it to you; that s all I know.
Are you sure you don t remember anything.
Yes. I wasn t exactly paying much attention when she hoofed it to me. I m, sorry princess.
It s fine. Luna thanked the mare again and closed the door.

It was terrible blemish on her past. The country got her banished by her own sister and now. Now the
country was calling her to be its leader.
Her first thought was to tell Celestia right away. She needed to find out what her sister thought of it
the proposal, but then she started having seconds thoughts. Celestia would never allow her return to go
back there. Why would she ever let her return? It had destroyed their friendship. There was no way
she could tell Celestia about this.
At the same time, Celestia was her sister, and Luna couldn t let something as important as this go
untold. It was a terrible conundrum. She felt like neither solution was right.
It also crossed her mind that she could ignore the letter completely, but what if the ponies needed her.
They went all the way to Equestria to send a letter to her. Luna couldn t leave those ponies out to dry.
Luna weighed the odds. She could tell her sister about the letter, but that could reopen past wounds, or
she could ignore the letter and forget she ever got it. If she ignored it Celestia would eventually find
out.
Finally, she decided she would have to talk to her sister eventually, and decided to go ahead and get it
over with.
She went to Celestia s room. She prepared herself for a hard conversation. There was no way Celestia
would take the news lightly.
She walked to Celestia s door and knocked. No pony answered. Luna was surprised. She didn t

  • 2. The Effects Of Sleep And Variables On Sleep This paper will cover the scientific study of sleep and variables which impact sleep by examining the five different stages of sleep, evaluating dreams and nightmares, assessing the causes and effects of sleep disorders and the various types of treatments, in addition to the effects of food and drugs on sleep. There are five stages of sleep, numbered one through four and REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. Upon falling asleep, the brain and body goes through each stage to comprise sleep cycle which approximately has a duration of 90 minutes. Stage One commences when the body and brain begin to relax. During this stage, heart beat slows down, breathing becomes regular, and blood pressure tends to decrease (Huffman. K, 2011, p.174). In addition, brain activity starts to shift, moving from beta waves to the slower alpha waves. Despite being deeply relaxed in this stage, it is still very easy to be awakened (Huffman. K, 2011, p.174). Following Stage 1, the mind and body move to Stage Two. In this stage the body becomes more relaxed so it is less aware of its surroundings (Huffman. K, 2011, p.174). Short burst of rapid brain waves known as sleep spindles, can be visually observed against the background of an electroencephalogram (EEG) (Fogel, S. M., Nader, R., Cote, K. A., Smith, C. T. (2007). Sleep spindles and learning potential. Behavioral Neuroscience, 121(1), 1 10). Following Stage Two, Stages Three and Four take place. These stages are much deeper levels of sleep because ... • 3. The Basement Of Ivory Tower Have you ever had an extraordinary desire for something, only to have someone tell you it is out of your reach? Does that make you try harder, or completely give up? In Professor X s essay, In the basement of Ivory Tower, (X) he goes into great detail stating how his students have the desire to maintain high academic standards in order to receive a promotion, to further their career, or because it is a job requirement. However, these same students cannot possibly pass their classes due to their lack of abilities. Initially, I found myself believing the author was hostile and unhappy in his career, although, the more I read this article I found myself shifting opinions, and I began to appreciate what a controversial topic college education truly is. Professor X discusses how some students are unfit for college. I believe that college isn t for everyone. Furthermore, society has set expectations that everyone should attend college. As a society we have lost track of the value of apprentice programs. My whole life I have heard that college isn t something you think about doing it is simply something everyone must do. I cannot help but believe that there are some very valid points to Professor X s article, for example, when he states that some students are simply unfit for the academic level that college requires. The author states, Everyone wants to triumph. But not everyone can in fact, most can t. (X, par. 47) In other words, Professor X believes that some students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comparing Journeys In Migrant Hostel And The Happiest Refugee Every individual will undergo many journeys throughout their lifetime without journeys, they would be limited in experience and knowledge, and this is highlighted in many examples of media and literature. The nature of journeys also have an impact on the individual; the journey may be harsh, stressful or confusing. Anh Do s The Happiest Refugee (2010) and Peter Skrzynecki s Migrant Hostel (1975) are two texts that convey the transformative, unstable, segregative and communicative nature of journeys. Journeys have a profound impact on the individual, and provocative experiences and new knowledge often cause a re evaluation of perspectives of both oneself and their surroundings. In Migrant Hostel, it is said that nationalities sought each other out instinctively like a homing pigeon. This statement is reciprocated in The Happiest Refugee, when Do describes how new Vietnamese refugees stayed with his family. The segregative nature is also explored when it is said that [nationalities were] partitioned off... by memories of hunger and hate . The quote shows that conflicting pasts also segregate people in journeys, reinforced by the harsh alliteration of the h . This is shown in The Happiest Refugee when Do is presented with the hardest gig of his life where he must present in front of Vietnam War veterans. The veterans are hostile at first, greeting Anh with silence; another example of how conflicting pasts can segregate people. While this practice was somewhat tolerated, it was in contrast to the era s idea of the hard working, self made man and was considered to be lazy and cowardly (995). Tramps were demonized [by cultural elites who] failed to acknowledge the vital role [such a] mobile population played in the project of US industrialization (997). A strange juxtaposition formed. The idea that hard work always paid off was in stark contrast with the fact that there was a real lack of consistent work opportunities. Instead of the upper class seeing the need for transiency in order for these workers to survive, the tramp was seen as willfully living on the fringe of society and removing themselves from fundamental American institutions (998). The upper and middle class viewed the tramp as lacking work ethic and morality, giving rise to the stereotype that they possessed the potential to be dangerous and wild (998). This was further epitomized by the railroad strike of 1877. The violence of these strikes created a perfect situation to further the stereotype of the dangerous and wild hobo, as Photinos describes in her article, The Tramp in Gilded Age Success Narratives : Eighty thousand striking railroad workers were joined in the streets of the nation s cities by thousands of other laborers suffering from repeated wage cuts as well as by throngs of homeless and jobless. ... • 10. The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir Summary In both the worlds of existential feminism and radical feminism, the housewife is separated a degree below other women, as a figure deemed lesser, or even other, form women within the feminist movement. In Simone de Beauvoir s 1949 novel The Second Sex, the housewife embodies the feminine other, a woman who takes the reason men subjugated women, embraces it, and then uses it to her advantage. She becomes the example of how women adapt and survive in the patriarchy, and the women who sacrifices her autonomy to live in comfort and safety, rather than attempt to reform society. Beauvoir makes the housewife the definition of the feminine other to justify how women sacrifice their autonomy and ability to obtain transcendence if they remain complacent in male society. What defines women as the other is not found in the state of nature or social history but in her biology and the overbearing consequences of her ability to become pregnant. In Beauvoir s work, Women are inherently different from men in the biology and how omnipresent it is in their lives, and biology defines women because at the time she wrote The Second Sex the consequences of sex permeated every aspect of daily life. With birth control still difficult to obtain, the consequences of sex are at the forefront of a women s mind, and if she wants to be sexually active, she must constantly consider the impacts another life will have on her finances, her home, her relationships and her work, if she is able to find it. The Feminine Quest in Surfacing and Song of Solomon Margaret Atwood in her novel Surfacing and Toni Morrison in her novel Song of Solomon require their heroines to pass through a stage of self interpretation as a prerequisite for re inventing the self. This stage in the feminine journey manifests a critical act typically absent in the traditional male journey, and one that places Atwood and Morrison s heroines at odds with the patriarchal community. The prayer book was met with much resistance; Charles already claimed all land in Scotland, including the Church s land, was subject to being taken away. Met with high resistance in Scotland, King Charles tried to resolve the conflict by swordpoint and had to call Parliament because his side of the conflict was not ready to go to battle, because he had a small amount of money. Almost at the same time, military rebellion happened in Ireland in November 1641, and Charles attempted to arrest five Parliament legislators. Civil war erupted in 1642, and Charles was defeated in 1646. Scottish forces handed the king back to Parliament, and King Charles was then tried for treason in 1648. King Charles I got a trial and was executed for treason against England. An argument for Charles could state that none of this was Charles s fault because the civilians were simply outrageous. However, it is commonly known that the predecessor of Charles I, Elizabeth I, was beloved by all her subjects because she treated them fairly and gave Parliament power. Charles, however, thought it was him and only him who should rule England. This is what caused his downfall: his inability to listen to other members of the government. William Wordsworth s poem, I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud, is full of the Romantic characteristics which were so different during that time. The speaker goes on to describe the daffodils and the lake that is beside them. The images of the daffodils return to mind during a difficult time , and cheers him up. In the first line of the poem, the speaker is metaphorically referred to as a cloud. Then, the speaker s feelings are transmitted onto the daffodils, actually giving the daffodils his feelings. By doing this, the reader can associate his or her own feelings in a similar manner. It allows the reader to envision exactly how the speaker is feeling. This type of reverence for nature is a strong characteristic of Romantic poetry. Another important Romantic element used in this poem is the emotional one in human beings. This poem is full of emotion on the part of the speaker. He even views the daffodils as having such emotion. There is a progressive change, even an emotional maturity, taking place in him based on what is happening in the poem. The speaker speaks first of his loneliness which later turns to joy. Then, while in a depressed state, is able to return to that bliss by the simple remembrance of what he saw. Romanticism also focuses on the desire to understand what influences the mind. In the final stanza, the speaker s loneliness is, once again, pushed away by the remembrance of the dancing daffodils. The speaker has discovered that by him associating with nature, he can change the tone of the inward eye (21). Memory, as is important in this poem, serves a great purpose. It allows one to simply forget what is happening in one s life for just a moment, and reflect on something that brought peace and meaning at one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The crack residue is a solid crystalline substance that is broken into chips or pieces resembling gravel (Edwards, 76). The chips change to smoke when heated, which is inhaled, drawn into the lungs, and then diffused rapidly into the bloodstream (Edwards, 77). Circulating blood transports the dissolved cocaine to the brain where it has immediate effect (Edwards, 77). Crack reaches the brain within seven seconds (Mickey, 2). • 30. Themes of Hipocrisy in ‘Tartuffe’ by Moliere Hypocrisy as a common theme throughout literature has often been advocated by the author s use of concealing the true characteristics or meaning of the character. Tartuffe by Moliere is an amazing neo classical drama, where it portrays the contradictory relationship between appearance and reality in terms of hypocrisy. In one hand, Tartuffe, the religious hypocrite, who always wears a false mask of untrue righteousness to deceive others around him, on the other hand in reality he turns out to be the falsifier. Despite Tartuffe is treacherous in his undertakings and manages to deceive some people, however he cannot help but reveals his true nature/characteristics whenever he is confronted by sincere individuals. In another sense, he fails to realize that there are at least some people who has the right knowledge and will be able to identify his true instinct. I believe by using Tartuffe as a model of religious hypocrite , Moliere superbly demonstrates the logic that although the inherent tendency of a hypocrite is to manipulate others with his deceitful virtue, yet he will only be able to misguide individuals, who are insincere and unwise. From one hand, a hypocrite is easily capable of manipulating the one, who does not have sincerity or who is inattentive with his/her personal dealings. According to the play, Tartuffe manages to impress Orgon by showing off his piety (Act 1, scene 5, line 36 40) and his generosity as an alms giver (Act 1, scene 5, line 55). I believe ... Integrate Spirituality into Mental Health Care Spirituality, Religion and Mental Health Since science and religion had started to draw apart in European thinking from the 16th century, by the time Western psychology and psychiatry developed, religion had become marginalized in Western academic thinking as so the disciplines that emerged were secular. Ideas about spirituality a part of the discourse within religion not science were excluded from both psychiatry and Western psychology as these disciplines strove increasingly to become scientific (Fernando, 2007). The mental health field has a heritage of 100 years of ignoring and pathologizing spiritual experiences and religion (Lukoff, 2000). In 1994, a new diagnostic category called Religious or Spiritual Problem was introduced in the DSM IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association). For the first time, there is acknowledgement of distressing religious and spiritual experiences as nonpathological problems. At the age of 18 Nanzeen is shortly informed about a marriage her father has arranged to man named Chanu who is twice her age, this is something she does not want but doesn t protests it because up to that point in her life there was little to no example of women she was surrounded with in the village who had a firm say in most to all aspects of their life. • 40. The Importance Of Homeostasis And A State Of Equilibrium... All living things strive towards one goal: homeostasis. Homeostasis is a state of equilibrium reached through physiological processes. In order to maintain homeostasis, living things use cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems to counteract physical changes. Using a variety of different tissues, organs are formed to accomplish specific tasks. The four main types of tissues are epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscular tissue, and nervous tissue. Several sublevels exist for each type of tissue. Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces and lines body cavities. The three main kinds of Epithelial tissue are squamous which is composed of flat cells, cuboidal, which is composed of cube shaped cells, and columnar which is composed of stretched, pillar like cells. Each type of epithelial tissue can be either simple or stratified. Simple is one layer of cells, while stratified has more than one layer. Each type can also be glandular. Glands can be either one epithelial cell or multiple cells. Its purpose is to secrete products into different parts of the body or outside of the body. Exocrine glands secrete their products into ducts or directly into a tube/cavity. Endocrine glands secrete their products directly into the bloodstream. Examples of epithelial tissue are the linings of lungs, kidneys, small intestine, and the nose. A common trait that all epithelial tissue have is that they are attached to the basement membrane, a thin layer of proteins that anchors to connective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Bitter And Sweet Quotes He d do what he always did, find the sweet among the bitter (265). In the book the Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, the Panama Hotel is on the corner of Chinatown and Japantown. The hotel is located between the two cultures Henry is tied to, the Japanese and the Chinese. The story takes place in Henry s past when he first meets Keiko and the present, after his wife, Ethel, has died. The hotel acts as the connection in between the two cultures and the two time periods, and symbolizes how Henry does too. The hotel also acted as a placeholder that would be there for him sometime in the future (252). When the new owner was bringing the belongings up from the hotel, Bud, the owner of the record store, said, I mean they board up that whole building, what, around 1950? And then the new owner buys it, goes inspecting, and finds all that stuff sealed up all those years (35). This represents how Henry s relationship was left in the 50 s and then he tells Marty about it and finds out that he is actually quite similar to his dad. The book also mentions that Henry s father rarely acknowledged anything in the Japanese community in a positive light. This [the Panama Hotel] being the only exception (120). The appreciation of the hotel shows that the hotel is in the literally common ground of the two cultures. Henry is the hotel in the way that he is both part of Japantown because of his connection with Keiko and when he went to visit her and the other Japanese in the camps. He also is part of Chinatown because that s where he lives and where he is from. The book also described the hotel as, the colorful marquee that once lit up the dark streets now was riddles with empty sockets and broken fixtures the once warm glow, a reflection of how much hope Henry had had as a young boy, sat covered in decades of rust and neglect (37). This shows how both the hotel and Henry lost their hope and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Essay on Prayer Should Be Allowed in Public Schools Prayer Should Be Allowed in Public Schools School prayer is a very controversial issue in today s society. The issue of school prayer is about whether the public school systems should let the students pray, at the start of the school day, as a class. The issue of school prayer began in the late sixteenth century when people in England did not approve of the way one religion was forced upon them, so the Puritans, known as the Pilgrims decided to come to the colonies. Even in the colonies the Pilgrims had problems with religion they had to sometimes resort to highly creative strategies in order to pray. Prayer should allowed in the public school system because prayer is an important part of America s rich spiritual heritage. All throughout the history of America there have been many important documents written of our country that have references to Almighty God, Thy Blessings, and Our dependence upon Thee. These include: the Declaration of Independence, the Gettysburg Address, the national anthem, and the presidential oath (Haas, 1995, p. 39). In school students always say the pledge, which states, One Nation Under God. A prayer says that students just want to ask for a good day and guidance throughout the day. Not only do important documents of our country refer to God but also the words In God We Trust are engraved on all coins minted and bills pressed in the United States (1995, p. 39). There are two parts of the American tradition and they are prayer and religion (1995, p. 39). If society keeps prayer out of the public schools, they are teaching the students that traditions are not important and that what this country was founded upon does not matter. Does society want to raise a group of young people to disrespect what their forefathers wanted; religious freedom? If that is the case then why do people try to keep this country working at its prime when trouble occurs? People do not want to see this nation fall but in the end it ... Similarities Between Elizabeth Bennet And Margaret Hale To begin, the protagonists Elizabeth Bennet and Margaret Hale gain personal triumphs by rejecting traditional social confines in their relationships, in society, and in their own personal fulfillment. Firstly, the characters gain personal success when they ascend the traditional social constructs in their relationships. In the novel, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, the strong female protagonist Elizabeth Bennet rejects the marriage proposal of Mr. Collins, the heir to the entailed Bennet estate, and clergyman for the estate of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Marrying Mr. Collins would not only provide for Elizabeth s mother and sisters in the event of her father s death, by keeping the estate within their family, it would also admit Elizabeth into a higher society, and provide her with a position, and financial security. In the 19th century Elizabethan society, women struggled to marry someone financially prosperous, if not in the higher society themselves. Despite being offered such a beneficial marriage Elizabeth defies the established expectation that a women if presented security in a relationship should accept it. Similar to Elizabeth, Margaret Hale also rejects a prosperous suitor. In the novel, North and South, Margaret rejects the marriage proposal of Henry Lennox, who is a financially prosperous, young lawyer, of high status. When Mr. Lennox proposes to Margaret she declares, I have always thought of you as a friend; and, please, I would rather go on thinking of you so. I don t like to be spoken to as you have been doing.
