Andromache In EuripidesTiger At The Gates
Andromache vengefully curses Helen, calling her an evil incarnate, a curse on both barbarians and
Greeks and one whose beautiful eyes brought ugly destruction to the noble fields of Phrygia
(Euripides. TTW.781 783). As a female, soon to be slave of Greek enemy forces, she knows she can
do no more than curse; at this point in the time, she must accept a fate of servitude or death. The word
Andromache stems from ἀνήρ, man, and μάχομαι, to battle or dispute (Liddell).
Her characteristics and actions in Tiger at the Gates appropriately reflect the apparent meaning of her
name: one who fights or disputes with a man. In the beginning of the play, pro war and anti war sides
are swiftly drawn in Troy, with the old men rallying for war and women calling for peace.
Andromache is quick to establish her position, along with Hecuba, against war and against the men.
Although she does not lead the anti war argument (it is Hector and Hecuba who do so), she calmly
disputes with Priam in a logical manner, albeit sometimes snarky manner. She acknowledges Priam s
fondness for women and so, asks him to listen to what they have to say. She follows this by
judiciously asking how their country will be made stronger by sending the vigorous and brave men of
Troy to their deaths (Giradoux 21 22). This interaction not only illustrates her wisdom and moral
strength, but her desire for peace above all. She knows all too well the bitter tragedies and bleak
destructions war will bring, as

The European Union And The United Kingdom
The European Union and the United Kingdom have a long history. Winston Churchill himself is
credited with bringing about the idea for the EU as a United State of Europe . Many in the U.K are
now starting to feel that this may not be the best alliance the U.K could be in. The EU is seen by many
Brits as being too much oversight for too little gains. The U.K does not even identify as majorly
European, and therefore believe they should not have the oversight of the EU. The United Kingdom
leaving the EU should be seen as a major issue, and may be a reality by the end of the decade. If this
were to happen it would have major geopolitical effects on the EU as a whole. The idea of the U.K not
being wholly European is nothing new, the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This wording only allows for the two possibilities, but Cameron would prefer a third option. The
Conservatives want to somehow work out a deal with the EU to allow the U.K to stay as a free trade
partner but not to be bound by EU policy. Germany has heavily opposed a special U.K status, but is
not opposed to the idea of multiple statuses within the EU for members. If the referendum passes
before these reforms are made the U.K will leave the European Union, this leads most to expect that
the U.K would quickly sign free trade agreements with all the other European nations. Brits currently
favor cession with 50% of those polled favoring it, and 36% not favoring it. The U.K perspective on
this is that many people support this, but there is a divide between the public and the corporate world.
The U.K identify closer to countries like Australia, Canada, and the U.S than they do with the EU.
This feeling of being British, not European has only helped strengthen the argument for cession. The
major group not supporting cession is large corporations, while in the EU It is far easier for them to do
business than if they had to deal with a renegotiated Eurozone. Many Brits do not see the EU to be
giving them much benefit, this is perhaps the primary reason for leaving the EU. The EU costs Britain
quite a bit of pounds each year to maintain relations with them, and many brits say it is time for the

We Real Cool Poem Theme
The rhyming and the supports from the speaker to be fearless teenagers that Strike Straight. We/Sing
sin. We/Thin gin. We (4 6), allows the readers to have confidence in the speakers of the poem, the
method gives them a realistic worth. In Sadie and Maud, the rhyming is to bring an openness to the
lines that stress the differences of living life With a fine tooth comb (4) and like Maud, who went to
college,/Is a thin brown mouse./...(and) is living all alone... (19 22). Comparing the two sisters in this
poem is also a unique quality this poem has, because the speaker clearly contrasts the life of a person
who lived as others dictated to someone who lived more unconventionally. The narrators of the two
poems also differ a great deal, for in We Real Cool, the tone of the pool players is one of attitude ...

In Sadie and Maud, the theme is that one should go through life doing what one believes is right.
Listening to others opinions is important, but one should never make the mistake of altering one s
beliefs to fit the standards and expectations of others. In We Real Cool, the theme impresses upon the
reader that one should not follow in the footsteps of the speakers, for living an uneducated life full of
danger and alcohol only results in death. One s life then becomes wasted, with no accomplishments
and experiences of any worth. This poem also implies that one should never choose the road to death
when life is a choice, and that education and achieving goals in life is important. However, in relation
to Sadie and Maud, one shouldn t just learn, go to college, and forget to live after becoming hide away
in the future stresses and problems that family members and occupations often bring. Experiencing
life completely is one of the most important factors of learning and maturing, and nothing should
hinder one from doing so.

Compare And Contrast The Federalist And Anti Federalists
The Federalist and Anti Federalist
Establishing an effective system of government has proven to be an obstacle for centuries. Fortunately,
the Founding Father recognized the common flaws of governments, as did many common men in the
colonies. Consequently, the ratification of the constitution was vital for a healthy governmental
system, though it did bring about much debate and persuasion. There were two main positions which
people took during the ratification, those being the Anti Federalist and the Federalist. The Anti
Federalist were a diverse assembly involving prominent men such as George Mason and Patrick
Henry, and also the most unlikely of individuals, those being Farmers and shopkeepers. The chief
complaint about the Constitution was that it confiscated the power from the sates, thereby robbing the
people of their power. Oppositely, the Federalist believed in removing some control from the states
and imparting that power to the national government, thus making America partially national.
Throughout this debate, many letters were shared between the two sides, and eventually, it led to the
federalist winning over the colonies. Despite what both parties believed, many legitimate points
opposing big government existed. During the course of history, it has been proven that a large
government has the tendency to become corruptive over time, thus providing an explanation for the
commotion during the ratification. The colonists argued the issues regarding big government while
using historical failures as their basis. They reflected mainly on the ancient Greek and Roman
republic, which was rich with ancient tales of tyranny and destruction. Both of these cities had
republics which broadened their conquests to other countries and in repercussion, their governments
became the some of the cruelest and oppressive to ever be. Additionally, even expects had spoken out
on the astronomically negative effects that a large republic. The baron de Montestuieu was a brilliant
French philosopher who inspired the colonist with his belief that a larger republic would be composed
of wealthy men who would find happiness by oppressing their fellow citizens. Not only did experts

The Most Common Way Computers Use Communication
Society is based on flourishing technology. The main source of technology today is computers.
Computers are everywhere and they have many modern uses. Without computers the modern
generation would not exist. Since computers have such an important role in communicating and
gaining information, it would almost be impossible to perform these activities without them. Over the
past few years, computers have become an essential asset in the way business industries run and make
decisions. Computers are transforming the way one lives; they have impacted every aspect of social
and business life. Therefore, one must have knowledge of basic computer skills and software in order
to keep up in the business world because these skills are essential in communication, management,
and research.
Communication is the key to gain and maintain clients and other important contacts (Crowder). Email
is the most common way computers use communication. An email account gives a business quick
access to instant messaging in addition to contacts. Being able to contact coworkers from a computer
has made communication extremely efficient. Every company has an email for customer service so
they can keep their customers updated and satisfied. When companies hire new employees, they
usually look through a personal email with someone s resume attached to it. This gives the employer
quick and easy feedback to see if someone fits the qualifications of the company. So, an applicant has

Enzymes play a remarkably important role in biological systems. Nearly all reactions in living
organisms are catalyzed by enzymes, a large majority of which have been found to be proteins. The
mechanisms by which enzymes function are varied, but all mechanisms lower the transition state free
energy where the free energy barrier of a reaction is the highest. Thus, an enzymatically catalyzed
reaction proceeds at a significantly increased rate than that of an unanalyzed reaction. Even though the
mechanism of enzymes can be reduced to such a basic idea, it is important to note that enzymes are
incredibly versatile and achieve catalysis through several mechanisms. The mechanisms are identical
to those of chemical catalysts, and thus comes forth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Michaelis Menten model, two important kinetic properties of enzymes are related. These
properties are the Vmax, or maximum rate that can be achieved by the enzyme, and the Michaelis
constant, KM. The KM can be defined as the concentration of substrate that leads to of the reaction.
While the Michaelis Menten model is very useful in determining the kinetics of enzymes, but there are
certain limitations to this method of investigating enzyme kinetics. The full analysis of the Michaelis
Menten model and steady state rate is beyond this report. However, it is important to note that the
enzyme substrate complex concentration is assumed to be constant, even though is continuously being

Fireflies By Yoko Ota Analysis
The dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 1945 had caused
substantial damage and countless of lives lost. People had continued to suffer, whether if it was from
radiation injuries or rebuilding their lives, even years after the tragic events. In Kenzaburo Oe s
anthology The Crazy Iris and Other Stories of the Atomic Aftermath, is comprised of short stories
written by people who experienced and witnessed the events. They retell of their actual experience or
re create the emotions and events of the unforgettable day. In the story Fireflies written by Yoko Ota,
she illuminates the lives of the people in Hiroshima seven years after the exploding of the atomic
bombs. She tells of the struggles her family is facing, as well as many others, and looks how the
horrific injuries caused by the radiation affected the lives of A bomb survivors. Through the use of
imagery, simile, and personification, Ota depicts people trying to rebuild their lives, the lasting
memory of the event, and long lasting effects of the bomb. Therefore, Ota illustrates the struggle
people went through in order to recover and rebuild their lives which was not easily or quickly done.
In her story, she uses her family to depict the difficulty that many faced. For example, Ota describes
the living conditions that her family, as well as many other survivors, lives in which is a makeshift

The Importance Of A Sonnets
Wednesday, 4th February 2015
Dear Young Poet,
I am writing this letter to you to as I have heard that you have decided to write a sonnet using all of the
techniques that are required to create a successful and meaningful sonnet. I am also writing this letter
to you to explain the significance of a sonnet. To explain this to you, I will be using the example of an
Shakespearean sonnet, which is the most simple and flexible form of all the sonnets, to tell you why
sonnets are important and why they need to be written. The Shakespearean sonnet that I will be
talking about is Sonnet 18, Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? , by William Shakespeare. This
sonnet is one of his most famous sonnets and is very straightforward in the language and ... Show

Each quatrain is used to develop a sequence of metaphors or ideas. The couplets are used to
summarise the sonnet or is a new take on the foregoing ideas and images. Most of Shakespearean
sonnets focus on the theme of love, beauty and worthiness. Sonnet 18 s theme focused on the stability
of love and its power to immortalize the subject about whom the poet was writing. The rhyming
couplets in this poem helps redefine the whole poem and also sums it up. It states that the poet
believes that as long as there is breath in mankind, his poetry too will live on and that the person that
is described in the poem will remain immortal. In Sonnet 18, each line is end stopped and self
contained; there is punctuation at the end of each line, which creates a pause. All of the lines between
one to nine are comparing a man to the summer s day as the first line, Shall I compare thee to a
summer s day? , helps define the comparisons that are written later on in the poem (the main axis of
comparison). From the ninth line of the poem, the volta takes place and Shakespeare switches from
describing a man with the summer day to describing the immortality of his beloved. He has
metamorphosed into the standard of how true beauty should be defined in the sestet. Shakespearean
sonnets usually have a lot of alliteration and assonance but Sonnet 18 isn t heavy with alliteration and
assonances and the language is

The Cross And The Lynching Tree Chapter Summary
The Cross and the Lynching Tree, written by James Cone, is an emotionally charged book that
criticizes the church and the black community within America. The first words of chapter one, they
put him to death by hanging him on the tree, [ ] have a strong first impression to the reader,
immediately stating the issue at hand. The act of lynching began throughout the Roman Empire for
rebels and insurrectionists where it became a public spectacle and humiliation. It was said in
Deuteronomy 21:23, this is punishment of being hung from a tree that was seen as a curse from God. [
] The first paradox symbol within the book is presented here where the cross brings forth the idea that
hope derives from defeat where then suffering and death is not the last thing. However, the ... Show

These cruelties were confronted by the church where it was unknown if the African American race
could express themselves past whether it was the blues or spiritually or even both. The Lynching trees
shares a major resemblance of the cross of Golgotha where Jesus our Savior was crucified for the sins
of the human race. The irony presented here demonstrates how the lynching of Jesus Christ of Him
dying on the cross and the lynching of five thousand African American individuals have a great
difference in American theology where those who committed the acts within the states did not see the
similarities between them both. Martin Luther King Jr. had a prominent role within society in America
where he sought out to teach the white race of the United States that if the cross were the pillar of the
Christian faith then they would soon learn that the lynching tree is the American cross. Even with the
outlaw of segregation through the case of Brown vs. the Board of Education, lynching was a shocking

who would be impacted by their use. On the CPSC website it has the Federal Hazardous Substances

on the immediate container of hazardous household products to help consumers safely store and use
those products and to give them information about immediate first aid steps to take if an accident
happens. (CPSC) It was hard to find a specific need for labeling or informing of such a product as the
RFIDs if they are integrated into regular business practice, such as mentioned grocery usage or
healthcare uses. There has never been a warning label or label of any kind on webcams for their
potential risk which became reality being hacked and streamed by strangers. CBS reported on the

Modern Definition of Rule of Law
Introduction to the Rule of Law amp; the modern definition. Rule of Law in the layman perspective is
the principle that nobody is above the law and that every man s act is subject to the law. The law
referred, in our context, is the Malaysian Constitution which embodies the definition, expressly in
many of its provisions. The constitution has the absolute power as against the arbitrariness and
discretionary power of the government. This concept is commonly practiced in democratic countries.
Rule of Law and Rule by Law should be distinguished as the latter is merely a government s tool for
the purpose of ruling and governing only. It is not a good approach as compared to the Rule of Law
because law is made by the people, for the people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By Article 149, it permits the suspension of the Fundamental Liberties, since it validates any

This is not to say rule of law is not stable, but that the regular law operates alongside a system of
emergency law which is much more draconian. An example is the powers of preventive detention, or

Problems That Led to the Wrongful Conviction of David...
How to appropriately and fairly carry out criminal justice matters is something that every country
struggles with. A major reason for this struggle is the fallibility of the justice system. It is acceptable to
concede that the possibility of human error in every case and investigation may lead to a wrongful
conviction. In the case of David Milgaard, however, Canada s Criminal Justice System not only erred,
but failed grievously, resulting in millions of dollars wasted, in a loss of public confidence in the
system, and most tragically, in the robbery of two decades of one man s life. Factors including, but not

As a result of these moral panics, it is extremely safe to label such individuals as those engaging in
criminal activity.
Labeling played an important role in the initial arrest of David Milgaard. Police officers, as members
of society, often use character discrimination in identifying suspects. Unfortunately, the police likely
began the investigation with a particular image of the suspect in mind, an image established by the
elite members of society whom essentially determine what a deviant is. Regrettably, David Milgaard
happened to fit the mold. The stigma that Milgaard would carry for next twenty seven years of his life
would be that of a rapist and murderer. The issue with labeling is that Milgaard felt no one would ever
look at him in any other way than as a criminal. This was affirmed by the rejection of his final appeal
to the Supreme Court of Canada. As a result, Milgaard attempted numerous times to escape prison and
commit suicide; he felt as though society had given up on him. Ironically, his escape from prison was
his only actual criminal act, but it led to an even greater public perception of his criminality. Even
upon his release in April of 1992, he was not formally acquitted. (CBC/radio Canada) It was no until
July, 1997, upon the discovery of new DNA evidence that cleared Milgaard s name, that he received
an apology from the Saskatchewan government for his wrongful conviction and the label was
removed (CBC/radio Canada). It was not until

Pro-D Synthesis Lab Report
Endogenous synthesis of vitamin D takes place in two steps. In first step the ultraviolet (UV B)
spectrum (wave length 290 360 nm) impinges on human skin and facilitates the conversion of 7
dehydrocholesterol present in the plasma membrane of the cells in upper skin layers, mainly in the
stratum basale and the stratum spinosum to pro vitamin D3. UV light B breaks the B ring of 7
dehydrocholesterol to form a pre D isomer26 27. In second step the Pro vitamin D3 which is
inherently unstable rapidly isomerizes to D3 in a thermo sensitive but non catalytic process. With
continued exposure of UV B, Pro D3 is converted to biologically inactive lumisterol . Tachysterol is
also formed but like pro D3 it does not accumulate with extended UV radiations24,28. The formation
of lumisterol and tachysterol is reversible and can be converted back to pre D3 as pre D3 levels fall.

According to Paula S. Rothenberg s Race, Class, and Gender in the United States, it seems as

Essay On Simulation Violence
Is Simulated Violence Causing Dangerous Behavior?
It has been argued for years, does simulated violence make people more violent? Many people have

claims, Play of these Mature rated, risk glorifying games was associated with subsequent increase in
sensation seeking ... hanging out with kids who smoke cigarettes ... and thinking one would like to try

Many who play video games will agree, it s easy to get addicted. Even more so is that you could get
emotionally connected to that game. Those games, especially violent ones, can be an outlet of
aggression for those who feel more angry. However, what happens when this outlet does not fulfil the
satisfaction of letting out aggression anymore? What if someone went out into the real world and did
the actions in their violent games? As you can see, this could totally happen and this is why games that
simulate violence could cause aggression in some people (DO VIDEO GAMES CAUSE
VIOLENCE?). This evidence shows that even if people play violent games to let their aggression out,
it may not do the job and they could go do crimes out in the real world. People who do these crimes
inspired by video games usually do this to let out their aggression or do it because they enjoy it.
Another piece of evidence is that those who are addicted to violent games have more aggression.
According to Forbes.com, The Aurora shooter, James Holmes, the Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza,
they re all described as essentially being addicted to video games.

The Killer Angels By Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln once stated in his House Divided speech, A house divided against itself cannot
stand. Lincoln believes that there is no such thing as a balance between free and slave states and that
the two contradictory governments are bound to fall. That describes the conflict that occurs in the
fictional novel, The Killer Angels, a civil war story between the Union and Confederate states fighting
to achieve the government they yearn for.
The setting takes place in the midst of the Battle of Gettysburg as the two sides prepare for the fight.
The Confederate officers include: General Robert E. Lee, General James Longstreet, General George
Pickett, General John F. Reynolds, and several others. The Union officers have: Colonel Joshua
Chamberlain, Colonel William Gamble, Lieutenant John Buford, and many others. The main views
that are looked at are Lee, Longstreet, Chamberlain, and Buford. The main conflict that started the
civil war is the issue of slavery. In The Killer Angels, it happened in the most important battle of the
civil war, which was the Battle of Gettysburg and talked about the plans to either unite the union or
destroy it.
The Killer Angels was an interesting book to read. I enjoyed the characters and relating to them. I
would think in their perspective of what they would do if I were making the decision for my country.
All the characters had a different way of thinking. The character s name on the top definitely helped

Government In The Film V For Vendetta
In the film V for Vendetta directed by James McTeigue it is evident that People shouldn t be afraid of
their government. Governments should be afraid of their people. This is seen through several
characters in the film. In the first place, the government is made up of people, most of them elected by
the citizens of the country. As an illustration, midway through V for Vendetta, the character V
surmises that Sutler s career began as a deeply religious man and a member of the conservative party.
He s completely single minded and has no regard for political process. The more power he obtains the
more obvious his zealotry, and the more aggressive his supporters become. This shows as the number
of his supporter increased and became more aggressive,

Recidivism Is An Important Part
Recidivism is an important part and essentially one of the main problems of the criminal justice
system. Recidivism occurs anytime an individual reverts to committing illegal activities, after they
have endured some form of punishment for a previous (if not the same) crime. Every neighborhood
and every community experiences crime. Every community sends its criminals away and once their
time is served they are released back into that same community. Under the canopy of recidivism,
regardless of the specific type of crime, the issue if not changed will continue to perpetuate crime.
While not every criminal reverts, problems within the criminal justice system are facilitating
recidivism.
To be considered a recidivist, a person that was once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reasoning behind these harsher sentences is that putting people in prison for years or even decades
should prevent offenders from re offending by incapacitating them and/or deterring would be
offenders from committing crimes (Wright, 6). The theory of deterrence and the aim of incapacitation
are well intended but are not concrete. Deterrence theoretically operates by magnifying the certainty
that there will be punishment for crimes. In hopes of deterring non offenders from offending taking
into account the consequences (usually confinement). Research to date generally indicates that
increases in the certainty of punishment, as opposed to the severity of punishment, are more likely to
produce deterrent benefits (Wright, 1). The seriousness of the penalty should prompt the possible
offenders to think twice or weigh their options prior to carrying out a crime. Half of State inmates and
a third of Federal prisoners reported committing their current offense under the influence of alcohol or
drugs (Mumola). This works against the deterrence theory because while the individual is under the
influence their thought process is dysfunctional. There isn t a sound thought process in their mind
while committing or before deciding whether or not to commit the crime. Therefore, it is unlikely that
such persons are deterred by either the certainty or severity of punishment because of their temporarily
impaired capacity to consider the pros and cons of

Basic Equivalent Of The Border
Professor Gardner, I combined my answers for question 1 and 3 due to they support each other.
* What is the Fourth amendment exception as it pertains to border searches? Describe the functional
equivalent of the border? Although the Fourth Amendment protects citizen rights against unlawful
searches while it also identifies the specific criteria where probable cause is required, the Supreme
Court supports certain circumstances where an exception to policy comes into play. The exception s
under border searches grants permission for authorities the sovereign right to stop and inspect people
and their property entering into the country without contacting a magistrate, and having to obtain a
search warrant before the search, , (Kim, 2009, p.1). Even though searches for contraband are
conducted at the physical location of the border where physical barriers and control points are
established, the border searches may be carried out at locations other than at the border itself. Kim
identifies two lawful concepts of authorized searches; searches at the functional equivalent of the
border and extended border searches. Functional equivalent of the border (FEB) is the physical
location, usually the initial practical location where people entering the country are temporarily
detained and questioned after crossing the initial border or point of entry. Prime examples include
international airports, sea ports within the country s territorial waters, and facilities located at the

Essences Of The Groundwork
This problem became the one of essences of the Groundwork,As Thomas hills argues that Kant s
aims in the groundwork are not primarily to illustrate how to apply his formulas to particular
problems, but to the basic presuppositions of practical reason, or to transform his research weight from
first critique to second critique. Since the question on emptiness charge must be taken on more
practical responses, it seems to me Kant has undoubtedly realized this and attempted to mingle the
theoretical and practical issues in Groundwork. For example in order to disentangle practical and
transcendental freedom, Kant introduces another doctrine in the third section of Groundwork. This
doctrine is essentially the same as one finds in the First Critique: ... Show more content on

Perhaps such absence is for some purpose. Considering that Kant s initial concern is to clarify the
problems of freedom rather than the particularities of the moral law, perhaps, given the synthesis of
the three formulations in the second section of the Groundwork, Kant might consider it unnecessary to
modify CI yet again. By the time of the Second Critique, he engages in a rather careful explication of
the moral law in which he does not offer a clear definition of the moral law, since it appears that
providing the theoretical ground for the moral law is

Dust Jackets For The Niggerati
All Stories Are True: Visual Narrative and Revisionary History in the Artwork of Kara Walker In the
collection of essays titled Dust Jackets for the Niggerati (2013), Kevin Young s seminal article Miss
Pipi s Blue Tale details Kara Walker s work with the American Bureau of Freedmen, Refugees, and
abandoned Lands, the office that kept records of the displaced blacks after the American Civil War,
documenting the violent offenses enacted by whites upon blacks at that time. Walker s exhibition
Bureau of Refugees (2007), a series of silhouette collages in reds, greens, and blacks, draws from
these historical accounts not only to call attention to the atrocities of white violence against black
bodies, but also to reclaim and lend voice to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What might it mean then, to be a refugee not from another country, but in one s very homeland? (45).
These questions are posed by what Young calls the refugee art of Kara Walker. As displaced subjects,
the characters in Walker s art take on a renewed sense of empowerment even while falling victim to
and participating in acts of violence and humiliation. This paper seeks to explore issues of
spectatorship and agency in the artwork of Kara Walker, taking into special consideration the critical
essays of Kevin Young in the catalogue My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor, My Love (2007)
and Dust Jackets for the Niggerati (2013) alongside a full length study of the artist by Gwendolyn
DuBois Shaw titled Seeing the Unspeakable: The Art of Kara Walker (2004). Both authors discuss the
revisionary history of Walker s visual narratives, yet formulate conclusions from two very different
frames of reference. While Young examines Walker s art from various cultural and historical
perspectives, Shaw s reading takes into account the personal experiences that influence Walker s work.
Much of Walker s art takes the form of visual narrative, telling stories with images and words. The
artist has said that the genre of narrative allows her room to blend fact with fiction, creating new ways
to negotiate past experience and imagine the future. Walker takes ownership of the

18,1918 in Transkei, South Africa who was well known as he came from a Tribal Leader of the Tembu

My Hockey Lesson Lessons
When life gets hard, get hard back. This is the lesson I have learned through this last hockey season.
My coach, my teammates, my parents, all taught me this one lesson and from this, I became a better,
athlete, student, and probably the most important a better person. Through this essay, I will share this
lesson and how it applies to my story and hopefully, it can apply to your story as well. In 8th grade I
moved here to Camas from a small town in Alaska where hockey was a lifestyle. We moved after
tryouts however so I couldn t play that season. Over the summer I decided to go out for the team
pretty confident that I would be the best player on the team because who ever heard of big hockey in
Vancouver? That was the most I ve been wrong in a long time. The first day of tryouts I could barely
skate backwards due to not playing an entire season and I was completely blown out of the water by
my new team. Looking back they weren t even that good to be honest but compared to me at the time
they could have been NHL All Stars. That was just the beginning of one of the biggest life lessons I
would learn. My 5th practice of the season I got into a fight with one of my teammates because he
came over and started yelling at me for screwing up the drill. This was an enormous shock to me for
two reasons, first one is because it was my first hockey fight and second because it was an enormous
transition to go from being one of the best on your old team to coming to a new one and

Mendel In America
In the article Mendel in America: Theory and Practice, 1900 1919 by Diane B. Paul and Barbara A.

modern day genetically modified crops. Just as there was an overproduction of wheat in 1870, there is
now an overproduction of corn in the United States. Some historical contingencies of the wheat
production in the United States include the introduction of further government interest and
intervention in agricultural research, namely hybridization and crossbreeding, due to the end of laissez
faire ideology of the United States. The overproduction of wheat in 1870 led to a crisis in agriculture
and the depreciation of value in wheat; the United States

Kristoff s Essay Saudis In Bikinis
The essay titIed, Saudis in Bikinis , talks about women in Saudi Arabia. I agree with what Kristoff
about the Saudi women s practices being foolish. (Kristoff 176) The reason why I think they are
foolish is because it just seems to me that these rules are misogynistic and discriminatory. I believe
Women should be able to dress how they want and do what they please. There are a variety of reasons
why practices such as forbidding them to drive and making them dress a certain way should be
considered inappropriate. There are many things woman in Saudi Arabia cannot do. Among them are
swim, drive, and go anywhere without their Husband.( Eleven http://www.theweek.co.uk/)
One is that what the Saudis believe to be true is not true. Evidence of that can be seen in the United
States. In this country woman are allowed to drive. Statistics show that woman both cause less
accidents and the amount of damages also costs less (source: 2007 AAMI claims data) I also believe

Institutional Treatment For Psychiatric Disorders
The Olmstead case began in 1995 with two women, Lois Curtis and Elaine Wilson who had
developmental disabilities and a history of institutional treatment for psychiatric disorders. They were
voluntarily admitted at different times, to a secure unit of Georgia Regional Hospital to stabilize and
administer to their immediate needs, then continued treatment on an out patient basis which was the
normal course of action for this hospital. Through clinical assessments, the treating physicians
determined that each woman was able to receive appropriate supports and services in a less restrictive,
community based setting. The hospital administrators moved Lois and Elaine to a state run institution,
and refused them placement in a community setting, apparently due to a lack of state funding to make
this transition possible. (https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/98 536.ZS.html)
Lois, later joined by Elaine, filed a lawsuit in District Court in Northern District of Georgia, claiming
that the State violated Title II of the ADA, which prohibits subjecting an individual with a disability to
discrimination by reason of the disability, and the integration regulation, which seeks to eliminate
segregating people with disabilities. Title II also stipulates that individuals must be placed in the least
restrictive, integrated setting to meet their needs, when professionals working with the individual
establish that such a placement is appropriate. Lois and Elaine were both assessed and it was

Sibling Relationships In John Hinton s The Rich Brother
From the time a child is born to the age of maturity, they are molded into what society has interpreted
as normal. These fragile adolescent years are crucial to the development of the child s behavior, which
bares the question of how important a sibling s role plays in this development. Humans learn their
behaviors and morals through the interaction with one another, feeding off of each other s experiences.
This dependency on others is shown through sibling relationships, even more so in the story of The
Rich Brother . In The Rich Brother , we are introduced to two brothers very different from each other.
Pete is a very successful real estate agent, living a normal middle class life with his wife and kids. His
brother Donald, rather, lives with a religious group in a commune. Although they had both been raised
similarly, they had grown up very differently, shaping their behaviors and personalities today. Donald
was a more reserved person than Pete, but also was very naïve and optimistic. This leads Pete and
Donald into some disagreements throughout their trip back to Pete s house. Through these arguments,

tax evasion. a case
A case on tax evasion by Anurag Kashyap
Introduction
Tax evasion is the illegal evasion of taxes by individuals, corporations and trusts. Tax evasion often
entails taxpayers deliberately misrepresenting the true state of their affairs to the tax authorities to
reduce their tax liability and includes dishonest tax reporting, such as declaring less income, profits or
gains than the amounts actually earned, or overstating deductions. Tax evasion is an activity
commonly associated with the informal economy. One measure of the extent of tax evasion (the tax
gap ) is the amount of unreported income, which is the difference between the amount of income that
should be reported to the tax authorities and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word concealment is not used in the context of prosecution either under the present Act or the
proposed legislation. But there are provisions to tackle defaults of every kind. As regards penalty, the
Code provides for levy of penalty automatically, wherever there is a difference between reported and
assessed income. The removal of the word concealment takes away the need for inference of intent to
keep back any information relating to assessment. The law in the Code makes no difference between
the deliberate delinquency and the innocent omission so that the Code, as in most other aspects, is
more stringent on the taxpayer.
India loses 14 trillion rupees ($314 billion) from tax evasion annually, depriving it of funds for
investment in roads, ports, and power, says Arun Kumar, author of The Black Economy in India.
General government tax revenue is an estimated 18 percent of India s $1.5 trillion in gross domestic
product, the lowest among the four BRIC nations, International Monetary Fund data show. With so
little revenue coming in, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is now attempting India s biggest overhaul
of the tax code in half a century.
Investors say tax reform would boost their confidence. If the government does end up making a
substantial amount in revenue as a result of the tax overhaul, their deficit requirements should come

Bust Of St Lawrence Essay
A bust of Saint Lawrence from Borgo San Lorenzo, a region just north of Florence, was recently
attributed to the famous Florence sculptor, Donatello (Povoledo par. 4). It was sculpted during the
Renaissance, circa 1440, and it demonstrates characteristics similar to that found in classical art
(Povoledo par. 4). The bust appears is and almost paradoxically idealistic; it is viewable from multiple
angles and is composed of terra cotta. By the depiction of Saint Lawrence, the patron saint of
librarians for the Catholic Church, it constructs a religious theme ( St. Laurence Martyr par. 17).
Hence, the bust of Saint Lawrence serves as an illustration that the Renaissance was the revival of the
artistic techniques of the Classical.
During the Renaissance, artists were once more interested in making their portrayals realistic, and as a
result, the sculptor thoroughly detailed the bust. Saint Lawrence s hair was carefully considered by
containing aspects of fluidity and asymmetry that reminiscent of hair styling achieved by the Classical
Greeks. His ears are partially covered because it is a challenge to sculpt ears in such a way that is
anatomically correct. Proportion is achieved in the facial features; the eyes, nose, and lips all appear
relative to each other in size. There is proper depth in the face; the eyes are slightly inset, the nose ...

The bust has a slight tilt in the shoulders, reminiscent of the contrapposto found within the classical
art, which allows for a less two dimensional image, suited for more angles. Rounded sides and depth
in the shoulders and arms also create a three dimensional appearance. Furthermore, the back has
significant detail; the hair is styled and flayed cords dangle. This back has slightly degraded with age
so even more detail could have existed but been lost. Overall, the design meets the visual goals of
Renaissance and classical sculptors

  • 2. Andromache In EuripidesTiger At The Gates Andromache vengefully curses Helen, calling her an evil incarnate, a curse on both barbarians and Greeks and one whose beautiful eyes brought ugly destruction to the noble fields of Phrygia (Euripides. TTW.781 783). As a female, soon to be slave of Greek enemy forces, she knows she can do no more than curse; at this point in the time, she must accept a fate of servitude or death. The word Andromache stems from ἀνήρ, man, and μάχομαι, to battle or dispute (Liddell). Her characteristics and actions in Tiger at the Gates appropriately reflect the apparent meaning of her name: one who fights or disputes with a man. In the beginning of the play, pro war and anti war sides are swiftly drawn in Troy, with the old men rallying for war and women calling for peace. Andromache is quick to establish her position, along with Hecuba, against war and against the men. Although she does not lead the anti war argument (it is Hector and Hecuba who do so), she calmly disputes with Priam in a logical manner, albeit sometimes snarky manner. She acknowledges Priam s fondness for women and so, asks him to listen to what they have to say. She follows this by judiciously asking how their country will be made stronger by sending the vigorous and brave men of Troy to their deaths (Giradoux 21 22). This interaction not only illustrates her wisdom and moral strength, but her desire for peace above all. She knows all too well the bitter tragedies and bleak destructions war will bring, as ... • 3. The European Union And The United Kingdom The European Union and the United Kingdom have a long history. Winston Churchill himself is credited with bringing about the idea for the EU as a United State of Europe . Many in the U.K are now starting to feel that this may not be the best alliance the U.K could be in. The EU is seen by many Brits as being too much oversight for too little gains. The U.K does not even identify as majorly European, and therefore believe they should not have the oversight of the EU. The United Kingdom leaving the EU should be seen as a major issue, and may be a reality by the end of the decade. If this were to happen it would have major geopolitical effects on the EU as a whole. The idea of the U.K not being wholly European is nothing new, the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This wording only allows for the two possibilities, but Cameron would prefer a third option. The Conservatives want to somehow work out a deal with the EU to allow the U.K to stay as a free trade partner but not to be bound by EU policy. Germany has heavily opposed a special U.K status, but is not opposed to the idea of multiple statuses within the EU for members. If the referendum passes before these reforms are made the U.K will leave the European Union, this leads most to expect that the U.K would quickly sign free trade agreements with all the other European nations. Brits currently favor cession with 50% of those polled favoring it, and 36% not favoring it. The U.K perspective on this is that many people support this, but there is a divide between the public and the corporate world. The U.K identify closer to countries like Australia, Canada, and the U.S than they do with the EU. This feeling of being British, not European has only helped strengthen the argument for cession. The major group not supporting cession is large corporations, while in the EU It is far easier for them to do business than if they had to deal with a renegotiated Eurozone. Many Brits do not see the EU to be giving them much benefit, this is perhaps the primary reason for leaving the EU. The EU costs Britain quite a bit of pounds each year to maintain relations with them, and many brits say it is time for the U.K ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. We Real Cool Poem Theme The rhyming and the supports from the speaker to be fearless teenagers that Strike Straight. We/Sing sin. We/Thin gin. We (4 6), allows the readers to have confidence in the speakers of the poem, the method gives them a realistic worth. In Sadie and Maud, the rhyming is to bring an openness to the lines that stress the differences of living life With a fine tooth comb (4) and like Maud, who went to college,/Is a thin brown mouse./...(and) is living all alone... (19 22). Comparing the two sisters in this poem is also a unique quality this poem has, because the speaker clearly contrasts the life of a person who lived as others dictated to someone who lived more unconventionally. The narrators of the two poems also differ a great deal, for in We Real Cool, the tone of the pool players is one of attitude ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Sadie and Maud, the theme is that one should go through life doing what one believes is right. Listening to others opinions is important, but one should never make the mistake of altering one s beliefs to fit the standards and expectations of others. In We Real Cool, the theme impresses upon the reader that one should not follow in the footsteps of the speakers, for living an uneducated life full of danger and alcohol only results in death. One s life then becomes wasted, with no accomplishments and experiences of any worth. This poem also implies that one should never choose the road to death when life is a choice, and that education and achieving goals in life is important. However, in relation to Sadie and Maud, one shouldn t just learn, go to college, and forget to live after becoming hide away in the future stresses and problems that family members and occupations often bring. Experiencing life completely is one of the most important factors of learning and maturing, and nothing should hinder one from doing so. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compare And Contrast The Federalist And Anti Federalists The Federalist and Anti Federalist Establishing an effective system of government has proven to be an obstacle for centuries. Fortunately, the Founding Father recognized the common flaws of governments, as did many common men in the colonies. Consequently, the ratification of the constitution was vital for a healthy governmental system, though it did bring about much debate and persuasion. There were two main positions which people took during the ratification, those being the Anti Federalist and the Federalist. The Anti Federalist were a diverse assembly involving prominent men such as George Mason and Patrick Henry, and also the most unlikely of individuals, those being Farmers and shopkeepers. The chief complaint about the Constitution was that it confiscated the power from the sates, thereby robbing the people of their power. Oppositely, the Federalist believed in removing some control from the states and imparting that power to the national government, thus making America partially national. Throughout this debate, many letters were shared between the two sides, and eventually, it led to the federalist winning over the colonies. Despite what both parties believed, many legitimate points opposing big government existed. During the course of history, it has been proven that a large government has the tendency to become corruptive over time, thus providing an explanation for the commotion during the ratification. The colonists argued the issues regarding big government while using historical failures as their basis. They reflected mainly on the ancient Greek and Roman republic, which was rich with ancient tales of tyranny and destruction. Both of these cities had republics which broadened their conquests to other countries and in repercussion, their governments became the some of the cruelest and oppressive to ever be. Additionally, even expects had spoken out on the astronomically negative effects that a large republic. The baron de Montestuieu was a brilliant French philosopher who inspired the colonist with his belief that a larger republic would be composed of wealthy men who would find happiness by oppressing their fellow citizens. Not only did experts express the promised downfall of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Computers are transforming the way one lives; they have impacted every aspect of social and business life. • 7. Β Galactosidase Lab Report Enzymes play a remarkably important role in biological systems. Nearly all reactions in living organisms are catalyzed by enzymes, a large majority of which have been found to be proteins. The mechanisms by which enzymes function are varied, but all mechanisms lower the transition state free energy where the free energy barrier of a reaction is the highest. Thus, an enzymatically catalyzed reaction proceeds at a significantly increased rate than that of an unanalyzed reaction. Even though the mechanism of enzymes can be reduced to such a basic idea, it is important to note that enzymes are incredibly versatile and achieve catalysis through several mechanisms. The mechanisms are identical to those of chemical catalysts, and thus comes forth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Importance Of A Sonnets Wednesday, 4th February 2015 Dear Young Poet, I am writing this letter to you to as I have heard that you have decided to write a sonnet using all of the techniques that are required to create a successful and meaningful sonnet. I am also writing this letter to you to explain the significance of a sonnet. To explain this to you, I will be using the example of an Shakespearean sonnet, which is the most simple and flexible form of all the sonnets, to tell you why sonnets are important and why they need to be written. The Shakespearean sonnet that I will be talking about is Sonnet 18, Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? , by William Shakespeare. Each quatrain is used to develop a sequence of metaphors or ideas. The couplets are used to summarise the sonnet or is a new take on the foregoing ideas and images. Most of Shakespearean sonnets focus on the theme of love, beauty and worthiness. Sonnet 18 s theme focused on the stability of love and its power to immortalize the subject about whom the poet was writing. The rhyming couplets in this poem helps redefine the whole poem and also sums it up. It states that the poet believes that as long as there is breath in mankind, his poetry too will live on and that the person that is described in the poem will remain immortal. In Sonnet 18, each line is end stopped and self contained; there is punctuation at the end of each line, which creates a pause. All of the lines between one to nine are comparing a man to the summer s day as the first line, Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? , helps define the comparisons that are written later on in the poem (the main axis of comparison). From the ninth line of the poem, the volta takes place and Shakespeare switches from describing a man with the summer day to describing the immortality of his beloved. He has metamorphosed into the standard of how true beauty should be defined in the sestet. The Cross And The Lynching Tree Chapter Summary The Cross and the Lynching Tree, written by James Cone, is an emotionally charged book that criticizes the church and the black community within America. The first words of chapter one, they put him to death by hanging him on the tree, [ ] have a strong first impression to the reader, immediately stating the issue at hand. The act of lynching began throughout the Roman Empire for rebels and insurrectionists where it became a public spectacle and humiliation. It was said in Deuteronomy 21:23, this is punishment of being hung from a tree that was seen as a curse from God. The irony presented here demonstrates how the lynching of Jesus Christ of Him dying on the cross and the lynching of five thousand African American individuals have a great difference in American theology where those who committed the acts within the states did not see the similarities between them both. A major reason for this struggle is the fallibility of the justice system. It is acceptable to concede that the possibility of human error in every case and investigation may lead to a wrongful conviction. In the case of David Milgaard, however, Canada s Criminal Justice System not only erred, but failed grievously, resulting in millions of dollars wasted, in a loss of public confidence in the system, and most tragically, in the robbery of two decades of one man s life. As a result of these moral panics, it is extremely safe to label such individuals as those engaging in criminal activity. Labeling played an important role in the initial arrest of David Milgaard. Police officers, as members of society, often use character discrimination in identifying suspects. Unfortunately, the police likely began the investigation with a particular image of the suspect in mind, an image established by the elite members of society whom essentially determine what a deviant is. Regrettably, David Milgaard happened to fit the mold. The stigma that Milgaard would carry for next twenty seven years of his life would be that of a rapist and murderer. The issue with labeling is that Milgaard felt no one would ever look at him in any other way than as a criminal. This was affirmed by the rejection of his final appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. As a result, Milgaard attempted numerous times to escape prison and commit suicide; he felt as though society had given up on him. Ironically, his escape from prison was his only actual criminal act, but it led to an even greater public perception of his criminality. Even upon his release in April of 1992, he was not formally acquitted. • 17. Pro-D Synthesis Lab Report Endogenous synthesis of vitamin D takes place in two steps. In first step the ultraviolet (UV B) spectrum (wave length 290 360 nm) impinges on human skin and facilitates the conversion of 7 dehydrocholesterol present in the plasma membrane of the cells in upper skin layers, mainly in the stratum basale and the stratum spinosum to pro vitamin D3. UV light B breaks the B ring of 7 dehydrocholesterol to form a pre D isomer26 27. In second step the Pro vitamin D3 which is inherently unstable rapidly isomerizes to D3 in a thermo sensitive but non catalytic process. With continued exposure of UV B, Pro D3 is converted to biologically inactive lumisterol . Tachysterol is also formed but like pro D3 it does not accumulate with extended UV radiations24,28. The theory of deterrence and the aim of incapacitation are well intended but are not concrete. Deterrence theoretically operates by magnifying the certainty that there will be punishment for crimes. In hopes of deterring non offenders from offending taking into account the consequences (usually confinement). Research to date generally indicates that increases in the certainty of punishment, as opposed to the severity of punishment, are more likely to produce deterrent benefits (Wright, 1). The seriousness of the penalty should prompt the possible offenders to think twice or weigh their options prior to carrying out a crime. Half of State inmates and a third of Federal prisoners reported committing their current offense under the influence of alcohol or drugs (Mumola). This works against the deterrence theory because while the individual is under the influence their thought process is dysfunctional. Nelson Mandela didn t just spread awareness to stop racism and apartheid but also wanted to spread love and kindness among the people of the world as during the UN they asked everyone to take 67 minutes out of their day to aid others. The reason the number 67 was chosen is because Mandela has spent 67 years of his life servicing and helping humanity as a whole, shows how much respect the world gives to Nelson Mandela as not a hero but also as a role model. This was a beautiful message to every person, especially young people, because it is meant to get people to think about others, take part in their communities, and making this world a more humane place to ... • 29. My Hockey Lesson Lessons When life gets hard, get hard back. This is the lesson I have learned through this last hockey season. My coach, my teammates, my parents, all taught me this one lesson and from this, I became a better, athlete, student, and probably the most important a better person. Through this essay, I will share this lesson and how it applies to my story and hopefully, it can apply to your story as well. In 8th grade I moved here to Camas from a small town in Alaska where hockey was a lifestyle. We moved after tryouts however so I couldn t play that season. Over the summer I decided to go out for the team pretty confident that I would be the best player on the team because who ever heard of big hockey in Vancouver? That was the most I ve been wrong in a long time. The first day of tryouts I could barely skate backwards due to not playing an entire season and I was completely blown out of the water by my new team. Looking back they weren t even that good to be honest but compared to me at the time they could have been NHL All Stars. That was just the beginning of one of the biggest life lessons I would learn. My 5th practice of the season I got into a fight with one of my teammates because he came over and started yelling at me for screwing up the drill. This was an enormous shock to me for two reasons, first one is because it was my first hockey fight and second because it was an enormous transition to go from being one of the best on your old team to coming to a new one and ... • 30. Mendel In America In the article Mendel in America: Theory and Practice, 1900 1919 by Diane B. Paul and Barbara A. Kimmelman, it is interesting to see some parallels between the appreciation of Mendelian genetics and modern day genetically modified crops. Just as there was an overproduction of wheat in 1870, there is now an overproduction of corn in the United States. Some historical contingencies of the wheat production in the United States include the introduction of further government interest and intervention in agricultural research, namely hybridization and crossbreeding, due to the end of laissez faire ideology of the United States. The overproduction of wheat in 1870 led to a crisis in agriculture and the depreciation of value in wheat; the United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Kristoff s Essay Saudis In Bikinis The essay titIed, Saudis in Bikinis , talks about women in Saudi Arabia. I agree with what Kristoff about the Saudi women s practices being foolish. (Kristoff 176) The reason why I think they are foolish is because it just seems to me that these rules are misogynistic and discriminatory. I believe Women should be able to dress how they want and do what they please. There are a variety of reasons why practices such as forbidding them to drive and making them dress a certain way should be considered inappropriate. There are many things woman in Saudi Arabia cannot do. Among them are swim, drive, and go anywhere without their Husband.( Eleven http://www.theweek.co.uk/) One is that what the Saudis believe to be true is not true. Evidence of that can be seen in the United States. In this country woman are allowed to drive. Statistics show that woman both cause less accidents and the amount of damages also costs less (source: 2007 AAMI claims data) I also believe that all women should be allowed to dress the way they want to dress. What shows that what Saudis do is discriminatory is that we do not see men having to walk around in specific clothes. Making woman walk around like that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 36. Institutional Treatment For Psychiatric Disorders The Olmstead case began in 1995 with two women, Lois Curtis and Elaine Wilson who had developmental disabilities and a history of institutional treatment for psychiatric disorders. They were voluntarily admitted at different times, to a secure unit of Georgia Regional Hospital to stabilize and administer to their immediate needs, then continued treatment on an out patient basis which was the normal course of action for this hospital. Through clinical assessments, the treating physicians determined that each woman was able to receive appropriate supports and services in a less restrictive, community based setting. The hospital administrators moved Lois and Elaine to a state run institution, and refused them placement in a community setting, apparently due to a lack of state funding to make this transition possible. (https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/98 536.ZS.html) Lois, later joined by Elaine, filed a lawsuit in District Court in Northern District of Georgia, claiming that the State violated Title II of the ADA, which prohibits subjecting an individual with a disability to discrimination by reason of the disability, and the integration regulation, which seeks to eliminate segregating people with disabilities. Title II also stipulates that individuals must be placed in the least restrictive, integrated setting to meet their needs, when professionals working with the individual establish that such a placement is appropriate. • 37. Sibling Relationships In John Hinton s The Rich Brother From the time a child is born to the age of maturity, they are molded into what society has interpreted as normal. These fragile adolescent years are crucial to the development of the child s behavior, which bares the question of how important a sibling s role plays in this development. Humans learn their behaviors and morals through the interaction with one another, feeding off of each other s experiences. This dependency on others is shown through sibling relationships, even more so in the story of The Rich Brother . In The Rich Brother , we are introduced to two brothers very different from each other. Pete is a very successful real estate agent, living a normal middle class life with his wife and kids. His brother Donald, rather, lives with a religious group in a commune. Although they had both been raised similarly, they had grown up very differently, shaping their behaviors and personalities today. Donald was a more reserved person than Pete, but also was very naïve and optimistic. This leads Pete and Donald into some disagreements throughout their trip back to Pete s house. Through these arguments, Pete and Donald s true colors start to show, vastly comparing the differences in lives between those who become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. tax evasion. a case A case on tax evasion by Anurag Kashyap Introduction Tax evasion is the illegal evasion of taxes by individuals, corporations and trusts. Tax evasion often entails taxpayers deliberately misrepresenting the true state of their affairs to the tax authorities to reduce their tax liability and includes dishonest tax reporting, such as declaring less income, profits or gains than the amounts actually earned, or overstating deductions. Tax evasion is an activity commonly associated with the informal economy. One measure of the extent of tax evasion (the tax gap ) is the amount of unreported income, which is the difference between the amount of income that should be reported to the tax authorities and ... But there are provisions to tackle defaults of every kind. The removal of the word concealment takes away the need for inference of intent to keep back any information relating to assessment. The law in the Code makes no difference between the deliberate delinquency and the innocent omission so that the Code, as in most other aspects, is more stringent on the taxpayer. • 39. Bust Of St Lawrence Essay A bust of Saint Lawrence from Borgo San Lorenzo, a region just north of Florence, was recently attributed to the famous Florence sculptor, Donatello (Povoledo par. 4). It was sculpted during the Renaissance, circa 1440, and it demonstrates characteristics similar to that found in classical art (Povoledo par. 4). The bust appears is and almost paradoxically idealistic; it is viewable from multiple angles and is composed of terra cotta. By the depiction of Saint Lawrence, the patron saint of librarians for the Catholic Church, it constructs a religious theme ( St. Laurence Martyr par. 17). Hence, the bust of Saint Lawrence serves as an illustration that the Renaissance was the revival of the artistic techniques of the Classical. During the Renaissance, artists were once more interested in making their portrayals realistic, and as a result, the sculptor thoroughly detailed the bust. Saint Lawrence s hair was carefully considered by containing aspects of fluidity and asymmetry that reminiscent of hair styling achieved by the Classical Greeks. His ears are partially covered because it is a challenge to sculpt ears in such a way that is anatomically correct. Proportion is achieved in the facial features; the eyes, nose, and lips all appear relative to each other in size. There is proper depth in the face; the eyes are slightly inset, the nose ... The bust has a slight tilt in the shoulders, reminiscent of the contrapposto found within the classical art, which allows for a less two dimensional image, suited for more angles. This back has slightly degraded with age so even more detail could have existed but been lost. Overall, the design meets the visual goals of Renaissance and classical sculptors ...
