Modern World Of The New World
Introduction
In 2015, there is no need to talk about our world getting defined by technology. Everything we know
and everything we deal with has been converted into digital sense and to digital state. Moreover, the
majority of objects surrounding us have received a description of smart , which no longer confuses our
understanding. The world has become more demanding to technology and more sophisticated to its
choices. The way to satisfy a contemporary customer is to design a device that would maintain as
many functions as possible in as small gadget as it gets. Therefore, modern world of the new decade is
called mobile world.
Even though mobile phones have been in operation for three decades now, a fierce competition
between mobile platforms has been going on since the spread of smart phones, which started in 2010.
This struggle basically divided the world into supporters of iOS and Android giants, with others going
for three more giants like Blackberry OS, Windows Phone 7, and Symbian. In fact, mobile platforms
deal not exceptionally with smart phones, but also operate software on other portable devices like
tablets or laptops. A must have in a fast paced world, mobile platforms have integrated into every
sphere of life. Therefore, they are an extremely relevant and important issue to study in a research
paper.
Our research is going to deal with the study of the role that mobile platforms play in a modern society,
as means and tools of information delivery. In our

Dystopian Similarities Between 1984 And Hunger Games
Rishabh Engineer Mrs. Schroder English IV Honors 26 April 2018 The Comparison of Dystopian
Aspects within 1984 and Hunger Games George Orwell s novel 1984 created a bleak future where
there was little to no hope. Such a society can be classified as dystopia, a utopia with dark aspects.
Dystopian works are a subgenre of literature that highlights major ethical and humane issues by
creating a fictionalized setting where such issues can be seen. Dystopian literature has recently been
popularized through many modern authors such as Suzanne Collins and Veronica Roth; however,
earlier examples, such as 1984, can be seen as far back as mid 20th century. Dystopian literature can
be classified relatively easily due to its unique themes and characters. ... Show more content on

This distinct feature allows for the development of a story line that orbits around the protagonists life.
From the very start of 1984 you can notice this style, for instance when Winston explains his
surroundings and daily life. A kilometre away the Ministry of Truth, his place of work, towered vast
and white above the grimy landscape. This, he thought with a sort of vague distaste... (pg. 5). First
person narration does not only provide a realistic depiction of the protagonists life, but it allows for
the ideological revelations the protagonist realizes throughout the novel. Both Katniss and Winston
were first compliant with the governing system, however, through reflection, they realized the burdens
and constraints the government put upon them. From those realizations, dystopian protagonists such as
Katniss or Winston start countering the oppression through rebellion. Examples of such rebellion can
be seen through entire revolutions. From Katniss Mockingbird movement in book two and three, to
simple illegal acts, such as Winston s purchase of a diary. The willingness to rebel while knowing the
consequences not only displays the displeasure of the protagonists, but exemplifies the magnitude of
their displeasure. Winston and Katniss both understood the consequences of their actions, yet they did
it anyways. For Winston, in book two, he knew that his affair with Julia might get them both killed.
Yet he still continued the relationship, not only to not betray Julia, but because he felt like he was
defying the party by doing

Descartes Discourse Method Part 1 Essay
In this assignment I will give you, the reader my opinion concerning the positions of Descartes,
Discourse Method, Part 1, and Discourse Method, Part 4, his basic conclusion which ends with
validation of something much grander. In reviewing Descartes, Part 1, it s my belief he is describing
reason, which is instilled in each individual in society. If a person has a good reason doesn t mean they
always make the right decisions. Either way they make their decisions, no matter what their opinions
are. It s what makes us different from one another. If a person selects something that is different, and
shares their reasons why, it s all about conveying their opinion. When people don t believe in what
another person is conveying, concerning their reasons why they came to their conclusion they have the
right not to agree. This is why we have discussions, even if their reasons are wrong; it s all about
bringing their opinions to the attention of someone else. In their discussion one person s reason seems
better than the other person; it doesn t make them smarter; it might be their views are better. I don t
believe in one person being better than another. When a person takes time to research a matter, they
might be prepared to share their reasons why their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe Descartes is describing the distinction between idea and matter in a metaphysical
consciousness and the physical body a conformity known as Cartesian dualism (PAM MS, 2017).
Descartes comes to the conclusion of his own belief the existence of God. He would go on to discuss
this argument many times; he believes he knows who God is. God is a being of infinite perfection.
Descartes states he was taught God is more perfect than him; he tries to articulate his way of thinking

A. 1 Describe Market Segmentation
Part A 1 Describe Market Segmentation
Market Segmentation was introduced by Wendall Smith (Smith, 1956). Benefits of market
segmentation include a better and fuller understanding of the market, the ability to predict customer
behaviour with more accuracy and an increased chance of detecting potential market opportunities
(Kotler and Cox, 1988).
The total market is perceived to be made up of several smaller segments, each segment in some way
different from the other. This enables businesses to identify which segments are appealing to them and
they can then profitably target their products and services to these customer segments through their
marketing (Meyer and Graham, 2015)
Similarly (Tynan and Drayton, 1987) states that the aim of market segmentation is to identify market
segments, or individual sets of customers, which would form targets for the company s future
marketing plans. The elements used to separate customers into segments can include: age, gender,
occupation, income, life stage, amongst others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Competition is slim to none in the North American wholesale industry due to the three companies
using a low cost provider marketing strategy. For Costco, potential new entrants, according to the five
competitive force model, are the strongest. Costco is dominating the wholesale industry and therefore,
have low competitive threats coming from new rivals. Entry barriers in the industry are low due to the
limited wholesale industry competition. Memberships to Costco, BJ s and Sam s Club make members
unwilling to switch to other companies. This provides an exclusive service that stores such as Family
Dollar and Dollar General does not provide.
2. Costco, BJ s and Sam s Club has highly similar strategies in terms of memberships and being a low
cost provider. The apparent differences between the three wholesalers would be the market share for
each. During its inception, Costco had about 56 percent share, Sam s club had roughly 36 percent, and
BJ s had about an 8 percent share. According to the text, Costco s strategy was to open more new

The Video Reporting Of The Boulie Tacks Protest Ride
RESEARCH QUESTION
An empirical content analysis of the video reporting of the Boulie tacks protest ride: with respect to
Hall, Ericson, Schlesinger and Bourdieu to what extent do the differences and similarities in the range
of sources used in the video stories explore a number of the varying aspects of the diverging
theoretical discussions on the source journalist relationship?
PROGRESS
My final essay will relate to topic #1 on the unit guide, that being an analysis of a piece of

aforementioned research question, my essay will be an empirical content analysis of two video stories

The two stories involved in my case study revolve around the protest ride against the tacking bandit
who for the past 22 months has been tacking the well loved cycling route, the Kew Boulevard. The
sources chosen by both the Channel 7 report and my own are central to the story in that they entirely
encapsulate the issue, that is, the sources themselves shape the story i.e. the injured/tacked cyclists
form the story . They shift the focus slightly to their affects/injuries from the tacks so they have shown
what significant event this is but also how we as an audience should understand this to be i.e. bad
man/woman throwing tacks is a disgrace look how many people are injured then contrast that with
people in powerful positions also being irate, calling for this should stop.
Clearly here the Channel 7 story clearly explicates Hall s notions of the use of Primary defines by new
media by the use of the Premier. According to Hall, primary definers are authoritative sources on an
issue that can be seen to frame the discussions surrounding this is within the news (1978, p. 58) and all
subsequent interpretations following the primary definer are then always compared back to the initial
primary interpretation (Hall et al. 1978, p. 58). He suggests broadcasters

Robert Nozick s Account Of Property Rights
When looking at property distribution it is easy to come to the conclusion that Robert Nozick s
libertarian account of property rights is the most reasonable theory. Nozick s view is one that can be
easily defended and there are plenty of examples to support the claims he makes. By utilizing Nozick
s theory, property distribution can be understood and improved on a grand scale. Before I am able to
support these claims, it is important for the reader to truly understand key aspects of his theory. After
describing the most important parts of his theory I will offer examples and reasons that offer support
to his theory. There are also certain counterarguments against his views that I will address later in this
paper to show these counterarguments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When looking at these counterarguments individually it is easy to dismiss these disagreements. Some
believe that the vast unequal distribution in United States can be used as an example of what is wrong
with Nozick s theory, but this is simply not valid. Although there are definitely issues with the wealth
distribution in the United States, many of those problems are addressed in Nozick s theory. One
cannot simply look at the current state of wealth distribution and ignore the history behind the
problems. A majority of the current unequal distribution is due to a long history of unjust practices in
business related to acquisition and transfer. Using Nozick s theory of property distribution these
problems become obsolete. Nozick s theory includes rules that need to be followed, which prevent the
unjust transfer of goods by using coercive measures. By following this rule, we immediately avoid the
wealth gained by people who use unjust practices to gain their wealth. People might also point to the
unequal distribution experienced by different racial groups as evidence against Nozick s theory. This
argument can also be discredited using Nozick s third and final rule, which declares that problems
caused by past injustices need to rectified. This rule would immediately help fix issues with unequal
distribution of wealth between whites and minorities. Throughout history minorities have been
handicapped by problems with equality causing them to essentially fall behind economically. If these
injustices were rectified financially, the playing field would become substantially more

2. Consider alternative risk techniques According to Carroll (2009), Risk treatment strategies include
two general categories: risk control and risk financing (para. 1). Controlling risks involves preventing
losses and mitigating the amount of losses; risk financing involves paying for losses that occur. As
stated earlier Novant Health takes risk management seriously. The organization engages in practices
that help reduce risks; a key practice is participating in continuing medical education. To control risk
financing, Novant has a risk retention group that specializes in medical malpractice liability coverage
for preferred risk physicians.
3. Select the best risk management technique or combination According to Carroll (2009), Health care
organizations accept a certain amount of patient care liability risk through an insurance deductible or
self insured retention (para. 5). Novant works to evaluate market rates and offer package malpractice

technical risk management decisions that are made by risk management professionals and related

Death We Real Cool
Death in We Real Cool In Gwendolyn Brooks poem We Real Cool Seven African American high
school dropouts want everyone to admire them. These teenagers explain how they stay out late
playing pool, fighting, sinning and drinking. Though they believe they have everybody else fooled,
they know themselves that the destructive behavior they are taking part in will lead to their death. The
sluggard s carving will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work (Proverbs 21:25) The
Bible makes a very clear statement in this passage as to how being lazy can be the cause of one s
death. In We Real Cool, Gwendolyn Brooks uses denotation and sound devices to suggest that

It is sad to see how these teenagers think of themselves as being cool because of the activities they
choose to do, when they each see how it is making them live a shorter life and none of them are doing
a thing about it. Life is worth more than feeling cool. Proverbs says, Since they hated knowledge...the
waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them (Proverbs
1:29a, 32). The teenagers in We Real Cool have an image of their selves as being cool on the outside
because of the badly behaved things they are taking part in and want others to think them as being
cool. These teenagers want to think that they are cool for doing the things they do, but they know that
the destructive life they live will soon be a factor to their deaths. Brooks demonstrates in We Real
Cool that even though people acknowledge their own behavior and think of themselves as being cool,
their destructive ways will be a part of their short lives and none of their coolness will ever matter
again.

Argumentative Essay On Year Round School
For decades, primary and secondary schools are stuck in tradition of having school for nine months
and having several long breaks including a two month summer break. Several states in the United
States and in Canada have been throwing around the idea of year round school. Some say that year
round schooling is a good thing for the children and others say that the children need a break from
school, but also have a higher chance of forgetting the material before they return to school the
following year. With year round school, its focusing more on the students education and not the
convivence for parents and school board. With having year round schools, students will be able to
obtain more information and perform better in the classroom. The children will learn more in the
classroom along with learning outside on their own. In the article, Why does education stop in
summer by editor Sylvia Stead, it states that a lot can be forgotten in the space of eight or 10 weeks .
Given this information it causes schools to give a second thought to changing to year round school.
Year round schools have been proven to help children learn better in the classroom and outside. It
helps maintain the students learning process to be able to focus more on helping them retain the
information and keep it throughout the school year. Stead has seen how the school year has been set
up to only be nine months with a summer break and she is now seeing the school year as year round.

The Soviet Union As A Great Nation
Although often overlooked World War 2 can arguably seen as the most critical event in the history of
the Soviet Union. The result of the war was the epitome of Stalin s vision of success for the Soviet
Union. The War initially had a significantly positive impact on the Soviet Union in the short term,
however the results and effects of the War were a factor that ultimately led to the collapse of the
Soviet Union as a whole.
The short term impact World War 2 had for the Soviet Union was positive for the growth and
evolution of the Soviet Union. The War both enhanced nationalism, and propelled the Soviet Union to
a major world player. In the eyes of Stalin, WWII was exactly what the Soviet Union needed to evolve
into a great nation. The war created great sense of nationalism and unity that strengthened the core of
the Soviet Union. Just as Stalin had hoped for the Soviet Union became arguably the most
nationalistic world power at the time; looking at the way the Soviet Union fought the war can
reasonably conclude this. The Soviets didn t not fight the war conservatively whatsoever. Stalin and
the Soviet army would take risks and lose lives in the name of defeating fascist enemies. The Soviet
army fought the war as if they re entire societal system was on the line. Ordinary soldiers absorbed the
attitudes of the Nazi and the Soviet leaders. Both sides believed that defeat would lead to annihilation
of their way of life (Suny 343). Another positive impact WWII had on

19th Century Jewish Culture Essay
Emancipation and enlightenment were pivotal aspects of Jewish history and culture beginning in the
eighteenth century and continuing through to the twentieth century. Influential political figures such as
Mendelssohn laid the framework for Jewish political and social freedoms. This was a direct response
to the oppression and anti Semitism Jewish people have faced for hundreds of thousands of years.
These harsh restrictions placed on Jews worldwide included, the prohibition of full citizenship,
coerced into assimilation, programs, all eventually leading up to the terrors of the Holocaust. The late
nineteenth century, beginning with the year 1881 was an especially critical time for Russian Jewry.
During this time, Tsar Alexander II was assassinated. Russian citizens naturally used the Jews as
scapegoats as it was speculated that the Jews were responsible for his untimely death. This was highly
detrimental for the Jewish people as anti semitism soon became a state policy in Russia. As a result,
Russian Jews were subjected to brutal violence also known as pograms. ... Show more content on

Artificial Intelligence And The Military
Practical Artificial Intelligence in the Military The idea of artificial intelligence has been around for
thousands of years. Ancient Greek myths talk about how machines were made to perform tasks for
their creators. The most basic forms of artificial intelligence arose from people creating machinery to
do tasks for them, such as using windmills to mill grain or retrieve water from the ground, deriving
formulas of math to reach answers quicker, or to print books that would have to be hand written
before. Just recently, artificial intelligence has started being implemented into the military. The
expansion and development of artificial intelligence in the military is safe. It will ultimately remove
humans from the battlefield and/or equip them with technologically advanced gear that will help
prevent injuries during war that would otherwise be fatal. At this point in time it seems rather
outlandish to have machines or supersoldiers (people aided by technology in war) to be sent off to war
to fight for our safety. However, these forms of A.I. are not completely polished but, they are on the
horizon and will help greatly reduce the toll that tragedies of war have on the United States. War
would be exponentially safer for our country and soldiers if artificial intelligence is used properly.
The United States needs to realize how war is going to be fought in the future. According to The New
York Times article, Artificial Intelligence in the Next War, officials of the United

Drunk Driving Thesis
Essay 1 If you want a job or want to go anywhere, you re going to need a driver s license. Whether it
is school, work, shopping, or just hanging out with friends, you will need a driver s license. Or maybe
even the necessary places like, the grocery, or work. Most states allow people to receive a license at
the age of sixteen. The driving test teens have to take to receive their license is different in every state.
Some states are harder on their drivers than other states are. Teen drivers have a history of being
unsafe drivers, but precautions have been made to limit wrecks that involve them. Sixteen is the
general age you have to be to earn a license. But, is that too young? There are some shocking facts
about these young drivers being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The graduated license is a prime example of this. This system is a licensing process used in thirty
seven different states. They all follow the same basic plan though. The first step is not being able to
drive without a licensed driver in the vehicle. Then, they can drive alone, but on a limited time and a
limited number of passengers in the car. Finally, the final stage is a completely unrestricted license.
But, there is a downside to that system. Many teens feel as if that system penalizes all teens including
the ones that drive safely. However, despite these claims, states have found that graduated licensing
has, indeed, reduced the number of teen accidents. (Teen Drivers par 7). There are many other actions
to increase driving safety. Such as taking a driver s education course. Or maybe even limiting the
number of passengers allowed in your car. There are many ways to make driving safer.
Driving can be full of danger. Whether you re sixteen or fifty six, you always need to be cautious.
Sixteen to nineteen is the general danger age of driving teens. You need to be very mature and
responsible to be a safe driver. Decrease the risks by being safe. Watch your time limit and number of
passengers in your car. Just be safe and responsible, and you will be just fine. Teen drivers can be

Within the next few weeks, the Congo declined quickly. On the tenth day of independence the Force

At first, the United Nations had refused to take part in the Katanga succession because it was an
internal conflict between the Congolese and the Belgians (Gibbs, 93). In actuality, the United Nations
really just wanted to stay in good with the United States. The United States has a large amount of
influence over the United Nations and even currently, the United States pays almost thirty percent of
the organizations bills (UN.org, HowMuchDoesPeacekeepingCost?). The United States at the

that for the Congo to thrive it would need to have, Superior forces and effective external support were
crucial arbiters of political outcomes (Duignan, 124). The United States could not allow for the Soviet

Battle Of Midway Essay
Define the Battle (who, when, where) On June 4, 1942, only six months after the Japanese attack on
Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the United States defeated Japan throughout a 4 day battle (until
June 7) in one of the most decisive naval battles of World War II. This battle s location was primarily
the island of Midway Atoll, which is roughly 1,300 miles northwest of Oahu, Hawaii. Recognitions in
part to major advances in code breaking, the United States was able to preempt and counter Japan s
planned ambush of its few remaining aircraft carriers, inflicting permanent damage on the Japanese
Navy. An important turning point in the Pacific campaign, the victory allowed the United States and
its allies to move into an offensive position.

You might think of this as The Battle of Midway, Round Two. Fought near the island of Saipan in the
Marianas group, the Battle of the Philippine Sea set the rebuilt Japanese carrier force, commanded by
Vice Admiral Jisaburo Ozawa, against Admiral Spruance s Fifth Fleet. Both navies had studied the
Battle of Midway, and both had learned from it, but it was only the U.S. Navy that had created a
carrier force that could advance deep into enemy territory and defeat both land based and carrier based
air forces. In two days of multiple air battles, the Japanese lost over 90% of the aircraft that they had
used against Spruance s carriers and surface ships. Philippine Sea was the last gasp of the Japanese
fleet s carrier aviators. At the end of October 1944, after its defeat at the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the
Japanese navy began using kamikaze (suicide) attacks in an effort to compensate for the defeat of its

The Period Of World War II Essay
The period from World War II till the present has been widely regarded as a period of an immense
amount of social progress. The years following saw vast acceptance of people of various tenets of
faith and colors of skin. One can argue that for a period of time America post WWII, there was
growing amount of acceptance amongst the population, especially with the election of the first
Catholic President, John F. Kennedy. The sentiment of allowing other people continued as quotas of
allowing people from other countries diminished with the Immigration and Nationality Services Act of
1965 opened up availabilities for Hindus and Muslims to enter the country. With the existing
demographics in this early phases of the post WWII United States, America was definitely making
strides towards becoming a more pluralistic nation, continuing a trend from even before WWII.
Things began to take a reverse shift in the late 1970s as counterculture left white conservative
evangelists thinking that the new generations were preventing their stronghold of the country. America
has been a less pluralistic nation ever since the Reagan Revolution and the rightward shift of the white
demographic and the new religious right, the attacks on 9/11, and just recently with the election of
Donald Trump. All of these events have elicited feelings of subliminal prejudice against minority
religious sects, such as the of the Islamic faith. Scholars tend to agree that progress was being made

Residential Sprinkler System Analysis
When we talk about land developers and building contractors in the residential market, we first have
to understand what target they are going after when dealing with water sprinklers. We see the
spectrum of housing specification going up all the time which is basically 1250 to 1750 square feet.
Then on the other hand we have these custom built homes, which run from around 2000 to no limit of
square feet according to the individual specification. Therefore, when we discuss putting in sprinklers
in a residential setting there are certain requirements which must be considered such as the market

Three Great Characteristics of Canada
Canada s countless characteristics undoubtedly makes it one of the most amazing countries in the
world. With three territories and ten provinces, our home and native land is home to over thirty five
million people from an endless amount of backgrounds and nationalities. Canada is widely seen as a
painfully polite country, a place with a terribly cold climate and meticulously clean cities. These
stereotypes might hold some truth, but realistically, our northern home is a place to be admired
because of its safety and freedom. Numerous people have taken this country for granted, but realizing

Canada has massive mountains, freezing cold tundra, endless prairies, powerful oceans, even cold and
warm deserts. Not only do we have such diverse geographical places, but landscapes that are quite
well known in some other areas of the world. Two examples of this would be the excellent ski and
snowboard resorts nestled among the mountains in British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and Ontario, or
the surfing beaches along the coast of British Columbia. Many people think that Canada s climate is
extremely cold all the time, but really that is only accurate in the northern part of Canada where there
is definitely colder weather. The southern area of Canada still encounters snow and minus forty
degrees in winter, but at shorter durations than in the north. On the other hand, in the southern parts of
our country we do face warmer temperatures. In the Western provinces such as Manitoba,
Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, we have had our share of what we would call heat
waves, with temperatures up to forty degrees celsius. In the very southern part of British Columbia
lies the Osoyoos desert which reaches high temperatures during summer months. The Osoyoos desert
is not the only desert in Canada though, the Arctic tundra is sometimes referred to as a cold and harsh
desert with permafrost and minimal plant and animal life. Although our mountains may not be as

Essay on Picasso
Art represents beauty. It represents the soul and spirit of the artist. It s a form of communication that
the artist can use as a substitution for words. Art has flourished the world for thousands of years and it
has no intentions on stopping. One of quot;the most important figure s in modern art quot; (Selfridge,
15) is a man by the name of Pablo Picasso. He has taken the world into many places and has enabled
us to see many abstract creations through his artwork alone. (Selfridge, 20) Born on October 25, 1881,
Picasso was a miracle right from the start. There were complications with birth and everyone was sure

Principles Of Maria Montessori In Early Childhood Education
Part B
Maria Montessori and Rudolf Steiner are both known as an educator in early childhood education.
Their theories, principles, and beliefs share many similarities. But at the same time, show many

Montessori took the idea of scientific approach to develop her theories, principles and beliefs in early

Steiner develops early childhood education based on the age development of a child. Steiner s theory
centered on all aspects of growth and development including spirituality. His philosophy sprang from
the idea that there are three seven year cycles of development. Steiner believe that education needs to

Benevolent Sexism Essay
Benevolent sexism is a courteous attitude toward women (which feels favorable) but in actuality is
sexist because the motivation behind it casts women as weak individuals in need of men s assistance.
This evaluation of gender only appears subjectively positive, yet damages gender equality. Benevolent
sexism is harmful because of the motivation that drives it. However, if the motivation of the individual
(men or women) assisting is not based on the original assumption that women are weak individuals
that need help, I believe purely chivalrous actions makes a better world and should be encouraged.
The friendly, fuzzy feelings from benevolent sexism come at a cost, [they]..aren t all sunshine and
butterflies (Tannenbaum, 2013). Even though they benefit women (compliments, perks), benevolent
sexism often creates a damaging stereotype for women in male dominated fields. The motivation
behind the chivalrous acts directed towards women comes from the traditional gender stereotyping of
masculine dominance, thus proposing inequality based on gender. ... Show more content on

What Is The Theme Of The River By James W. Brown
Analytical essay on The river by James W. Brown
Raising a child can be done in various ways. Of course it depends on which gender your child is, but
overall it is pretty much the same. The best way to raise a child is to make sure that they respect things
around them. That they cannot go around behaving, as they want too. But, men have a thing that they
always want to learn their boys. Manhood. Manhood is something a boy needs. Manhood is the thing
that separates the boys from the men. It can be taught in many ways and some men take their boys on
survival trips. This is what a father does with his young boy in the short story The river by James W.
Brown written in 2009.
In the short story The river we hear about a father and a son on a trip. The father wants to teach the
son how to cross a strong river. Trying to make a man out of him. While trying to teach his son, he
makes some mistakes and it will make him pay a great price.
The short story The river takes place in a few places. We first hear about the father and his son sitting
in a car on the way, on their trip. Later we hear about them in the forest, of some kind, while the father
explains to his son how to get over the river. We hear about the father and the son, but we do not hear
that much about the mother. The only thing we hear about her is in line 18 20: At ... Show more

The description of the setting is quite negative. When the first car appeared he could see it from a long

Summary Of The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
Women, more than men, have been limited and punished because of the gender they were born into.
This has been true in cultures and societies for many years, and Africa is no exception. The book The
No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, by Alexander McCall Smith, shows the present struggles of women
that are affected by gender expectations, due to cultural influence, in Botswana.
The African culture is something to be amazed by. This is knowledge I acquired from personal
experience while living in Africa. Sadly, however, it is also home to traditional ways which oppress
and discriminate against women. Especially in smaller villages, where the ancient culture is more
prevalent, women are classed inferior to men. The character Happy Bapetsi, a bright and young
Batswana woman, witnesses gender discrimination everyday in her professional life. This limits her
future gravely and allows for injustice to prevail in a modern society. ... Show more content on

Theories Of Pragmatics
Why are there so many theories in pragmatics concerning meaning in language? Why is the study of
language use crucial to understanding meaning in language? How does the development over time of
the main theories in pragmatics show a greater understanding of language use? Introduction First of
all, what do we understand with meaning? What is it? Meaning seems like a very straightforward
concept but it is very obscure indeed. As human beings we are designed to acquire meaning from the
world, it allows us make a conceptualization of the world. It is the most important feature of language,
as the main purpose of language is to communicate with each other, in other words, to know what we
mean . This looks quite straightforward and obvious as I have mentioned before, but what makes
meaning so hard to understand is the little consciousness that we have of the knowledge and principles
that govern our communicative ability that make us humans. As Aristotle said in Politics, Man is by
nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally ... Show more content on

Actors Must Go Beyond Immitation and Become the Character
What is acting, who are people which we can name actors? In fact we are all actors. Every single
human being is an actor in his everyday life. Yet acting can be subdivided into two parts depending on
a professional basis or daily one. Within the professional acting there are two major categories,
Imitation and the art of becoming. Imitation, is when an actor tries to mime or imitate a certain
character by talking the same way and making similar physical gestures that the character him self
would normally do. Yet imitating is not enough because although the actor mimes a character, he does

The most important factor under physiological instrument is the voice, which includes how to breathe,
speak, project and control the many powers that one can control with his voice. Furthermore, another
main factor to be considered is the physiological instrument. This instrument is used to control ones
physical relaxation, muscular control, economy of action, and expressive rhythms and movement
patterns. All these help the character maintain an act or hold stage throughout an entire performance.
Imagination and surprise are very important weapons or power for an actor. Helping the actor to bring
reality and spontaneity to the stage.
Yet the most important of all is discipline. For the life of an actor is not a very easy life to lead. They
require a lot of work, concentration, and patience at the most obscure hours of the day. They should be
in control of themselves and know how to deal with people and most importantly how to deal with his
co workers. Being a disciplined actor does not mean slavery, yet he or she is required to know how to
work rigorously to develop his or her physiological and psychological instrument.
Furthermore, another important factor is the actor s approach. Under this category, there are two
traditional methods that actors usually follow. The first is the external or technical and the internal or
truthful. The external method is when the actor acts out physically the role without regard to personal
feelings. Believers in

  • 2. Modern World Of The New World Introduction In 2015, there is no need to talk about our world getting defined by technology. Everything we know and everything we deal with has been converted into digital sense and to digital state. Moreover, the majority of objects surrounding us have received a description of smart , which no longer confuses our understanding. The world has become more demanding to technology and more sophisticated to its choices. The way to satisfy a contemporary customer is to design a device that would maintain as many functions as possible in as small gadget as it gets. Therefore, modern world of the new decade is called mobile world. Even though mobile phones have been in operation for three decades now, a fierce competition between mobile platforms has been going on since the spread of smart phones, which started in 2010. This struggle basically divided the world into supporters of iOS and Android giants, with others going for three more giants like Blackberry OS, Windows Phone 7, and Symbian. In fact, mobile platforms deal not exceptionally with smart phones, but also operate software on other portable devices like tablets or laptops. A must have in a fast paced world, mobile platforms have integrated into every sphere of life. Therefore, they are an extremely relevant and important issue to study in a research paper. Our research is going to deal with the study of the role that mobile platforms play in a modern society, as means and tools of information delivery. In our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dystopian Similarities Between 1984 And Hunger Games Rishabh Engineer Mrs. Schroder English IV Honors 26 April 2018 The Comparison of Dystopian Aspects within 1984 and Hunger Games George Orwell s novel 1984 created a bleak future where there was little to no hope. Such a society can be classified as dystopia, a utopia with dark aspects. Dystopian works are a subgenre of literature that highlights major ethical and humane issues by creating a fictionalized setting where such issues can be seen. Dystopian literature has recently been popularized through many modern authors such as Suzanne Collins and Veronica Roth; however, earlier examples, such as 1984, can be seen as far back as mid 20th century. Dystopian literature can be classified relatively easily due to its unique themes and characters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This distinct feature allows for the development of a story line that orbits around the protagonists life. From the very start of 1984 you can notice this style, for instance when Winston explains his surroundings and daily life. A kilometre away the Ministry of Truth, his place of work, towered vast and white above the grimy landscape. This, he thought with a sort of vague distaste... (pg. 5). First person narration does not only provide a realistic depiction of the protagonists life, but it allows for the ideological revelations the protagonist realizes throughout the novel. Both Katniss and Winston were first compliant with the governing system, however, through reflection, they realized the burdens and constraints the government put upon them. From those realizations, dystopian protagonists such as Katniss or Winston start countering the oppression through rebellion. Examples of such rebellion can be seen through entire revolutions. From Katniss Mockingbird movement in book two and three, to simple illegal acts, such as Winston s purchase of a diary. The willingness to rebel while knowing the consequences not only displays the displeasure of the protagonists, but exemplifies the magnitude of their displeasure. Winston and Katniss both understood the consequences of their actions, yet they did it anyways. For Winston, in book two, he knew that his affair with Julia might get them both killed. Yet he still continued the relationship, not only to not betray Julia, but because he felt like he was defying the party by doing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Descartes Discourse Method Part 1 Essay In this assignment I will give you, the reader my opinion concerning the positions of Descartes, Discourse Method, Part 1, and Discourse Method, Part 4, his basic conclusion which ends with validation of something much grander. In reviewing Descartes, Part 1, it s my belief he is describing reason, which is instilled in each individual in society. If a person has a good reason doesn t mean they always make the right decisions. Either way they make their decisions, no matter what their opinions are. It s what makes us different from one another. If a person selects something that is different, and shares their reasons why, it s all about conveying their opinion. When people don t believe in what another person is conveying, concerning their reasons why they came to their conclusion they have the right not to agree. This is why we have discussions, even if their reasons are wrong; it s all about bringing their opinions to the attention of someone else. In their discussion one person s reason seems better than the other person; it doesn t make them smarter; it might be their views are better. I don t believe in one person being better than another. When a person takes time to research a matter, they might be prepared to share their reasons why their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe Descartes is describing the distinction between idea and matter in a metaphysical consciousness and the physical body a conformity known as Cartesian dualism (PAM MS, 2017). Descartes comes to the conclusion of his own belief the existence of God. He would go on to discuss this argument many times; he believes he knows who God is. God is a being of infinite perfection. Descartes states he was taught God is more perfect than him; he tries to articulate his way of thinking (Bennett, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. A. 1 Describe Market Segmentation Part A 1 Describe Market Segmentation Market Segmentation was introduced by Wendall Smith (Smith, 1956). Benefits of market segmentation include a better and fuller understanding of the market, the ability to predict customer behaviour with more accuracy and an increased chance of detecting potential market opportunities (Kotler and Cox, 1988). The total market is perceived to be made up of several smaller segments, each segment in some way different from the other. This enables businesses to identify which segments are appealing to them and they can then profitably target their products and services to these customer segments through their marketing (Meyer and Graham, 2015) Similarly (Tynan and Drayton, 1987) states that the aim of market segmentation is to identify market segments, or individual sets of customers, which would form targets for the company s future marketing plans. The elements used to separate customers into segments can include: age, gender, occupation, income, life stage, amongst others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competition is slim to none in the North American wholesale industry due to the three companies using a low cost provider marketing strategy. For Costco, potential new entrants, according to the five competitive force model, are the strongest. Costco is dominating the wholesale industry and therefore, have low competitive threats coming from new rivals. Entry barriers in the industry are low due to the limited wholesale industry competition. Memberships to Costco, BJ s and Sam s Club make members unwilling to switch to other companies. This provides an exclusive service that stores such as Family Dollar and Dollar General does not provide. 2. Costco, BJ s and Sam s Club has highly similar strategies in terms of memberships and being a low cost provider. The apparent differences between the three wholesalers would be the market share for each. During its inception, Costco had about 56 percent share, Sam s club had roughly 36 percent, and BJ s had about an 8 percent share. The Video Reporting Of The Boulie Tacks Protest Ride RESEARCH QUESTION An empirical content analysis of the video reporting of the Boulie tacks protest ride: with respect to Hall, Ericson, Schlesinger and Bourdieu to what extent do the differences and similarities in the range of sources used in the video stories explore a number of the varying aspects of the diverging theoretical discussions on the source journalist relationship? PROGRESS My final essay will relate to topic #1 on the unit guide, that being an analysis of a piece of professional practice by yourself or some other person working in journalism . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two stories involved in my case study revolve around the protest ride against the tacking bandit who for the past 22 months has been tacking the well loved cycling route, the Kew Boulevard. The sources chosen by both the Channel 7 report and my own are central to the story in that they entirely encapsulate the issue, that is, the sources themselves shape the story i.e. the injured/tacked cyclists form the story . They shift the focus slightly to their affects/injuries from the tacks so they have shown what significant event this is but also how we as an audience should understand this to be i.e. bad man/woman throwing tacks is a disgrace look how many people are injured then contrast that with people in powerful positions also being irate, calling for this should stop. Clearly here the Channel 7 story clearly explicates Hall s notions of the use of Primary defines by new media by the use of the Premier. According to Hall, primary definers are authoritative sources on an issue that can be seen to frame the discussions surrounding this is within the news (1978, p. 58) and all subsequent interpretations following the primary definer are then always compared back to the initial primary interpretation (Hall et al. 1978, p. 58). • 9. Robert Nozick s Account Of Property Rights When looking at property distribution it is easy to come to the conclusion that Robert Nozick s libertarian account of property rights is the most reasonable theory. Nozick s view is one that can be easily defended and there are plenty of examples to support the claims he makes. By utilizing Nozick s theory, property distribution can be understood and improved on a grand scale. Before I am able to support these claims, it is important for the reader to truly understand key aspects of his theory. When looking at these counterarguments individually it is easy to dismiss these disagreements. Some believe that the vast unequal distribution in United States can be used as an example of what is wrong with Nozick s theory, but this is simply not valid. Although there are definitely issues with the wealth distribution in the United States, many of those problems are addressed in Nozick s theory. One cannot simply look at the current state of wealth distribution and ignore the history behind the problems. A majority of the current unequal distribution is due to a long history of unjust practices in business related to acquisition and transfer. Using Nozick s theory of property distribution these problems become obsolete. Nozick s theory includes rules that need to be followed, which prevent the unjust transfer of goods by using coercive measures. By following this rule, we immediately avoid the wealth gained by people who use unjust practices to gain their wealth. People might also point to the unequal distribution experienced by different racial groups as evidence against Nozick s theory. This argument can also be discredited using Nozick s third and final rule, which declares that problems caused by past injustices need to rectified. This rule would immediately help fix issues with unequal distribution of wealth between whites and minorities. Throughout history minorities have been handicapped by problems with equality causing them to essentially fall behind economically. If these injustices were rectified financially, the playing field would become substantially more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is sad to see how these teenagers think of themselves as being cool because of the activities they choose to do, when they each see how it is making them live a shorter life and none of them are doing a thing about it. • 12. Argumentative Essay On Year Round School For decades, primary and secondary schools are stuck in tradition of having school for nine months and having several long breaks including a two month summer break. Several states in the United States and in Canada have been throwing around the idea of year round school. Some say that year round schooling is a good thing for the children and others say that the children need a break from school, but also have a higher chance of forgetting the material before they return to school the following year. With year round school, its focusing more on the students education and not the convivence for parents and school board. With having year round schools, students will be able to obtain more information and perform better in the classroom. The children will learn more in the classroom along with learning outside on their own. In the article, Why does education stop in summer by editor Sylvia Stead, it states that a lot can be forgotten in the space of eight or 10 weeks . Given this information it causes schools to give a second thought to changing to year round school. Year round schools have been proven to help children learn better in the classroom and outside. It helps maintain the students learning process to be able to focus more on helping them retain the information and keep it throughout the school year. The result of the war was the epitome of Stalin s vision of success for the Soviet Union. The War initially had a significantly positive impact on the Soviet Union in the short term, however the results and effects of the War were a factor that ultimately led to the collapse of the Soviet Union as a whole. The short term impact World War 2 had for the Soviet Union was positive for the growth and evolution of the Soviet Union. The War both enhanced nationalism, and propelled the Soviet Union to a major world player. In the eyes of Stalin, WWII was exactly what the Soviet Union needed to evolve into a great nation. The war created great sense of nationalism and unity that strengthened the core of the Soviet Union. Just as Stalin had hoped for the Soviet Union became arguably the most nationalistic world power at the time; looking at the way the Soviet Union fought the war can reasonably conclude this. The Soviets didn t not fight the war conservatively whatsoever. Stalin and the Soviet army would take risks and lose lives in the name of defeating fascist enemies. • 15. Artificial Intelligence And The Military Practical Artificial Intelligence in the Military The idea of artificial intelligence has been around for thousands of years. Ancient Greek myths talk about how machines were made to perform tasks for their creators. The most basic forms of artificial intelligence arose from people creating machinery to do tasks for them, such as using windmills to mill grain or retrieve water from the ground, deriving formulas of math to reach answers quicker, or to print books that would have to be hand written before. Just recently, artificial intelligence has started being implemented into the military. The expansion and development of artificial intelligence in the military is safe. It will ultimately remove humans from the battlefield and/or equip them with technologically advanced gear that will help prevent injuries during war that would otherwise be fatal. At this point in time it seems rather outlandish to have machines or supersoldiers (people aided by technology in war) to be sent off to war to fight for our safety. However, these forms of A.I. are not completely polished but, they are on the horizon and will help greatly reduce the toll that tragedies of war have on the United States. It is the most important feature of language, as the main purpose of language is to communicate with each other, in other words, to know what we mean . This looks quite straightforward and obvious as I have mentioned before, but what makes meaning so hard to understand is the little consciousness that we have of the knowledge and principles that govern our communicative ability that make us humans.
