PROFILES
• Designed as a safe and sustainable alternative
to traditional timber, recycled plastic profiles
offer many highly desirable properties. Proven
in use over many years, they facilitate quick
and easy fabrication for use in a wide range of
applications including boardwalks, pontoons,
signs, fences, and outdoor furniture.
Benefits of Recycled Plastic
PRODUCTS
• Lower whole-life costs than timber
• Visually similar to timber with a choice of surface finishes
and colours
• Available in a range of bright, primary colours
• Extremely tough and durable but easy to handle and install
• UV-resistant, splinter free, crack-proof and requires little or
no maintenance.
• Rot and algae-proof, insect resistant
• Completely inert-no chemical leach into soil or water.
• Resistant to graffiti and more resilient to other types of
vandalism;
• Less flammable, it falls under Rating Class 3 in accordance
with BS476.
• Solid plastic profiles in particular are more difficult to ignite
than timber.
APPLICATION OF RCYCLED PLASTIC
• Fencing, including post and rail, birdsmouth,
picket and panel
• Walkways and pedestrian bridges
• Outdoor furniture
• Signage substrates
• Bird hides
• Viewing platforms
• Waste bins
Profiles & Planks
• Material Type Recycled HDPE
Surface Finish Textured / Slip Resistant
Standard Sizes
• 140 x 18mm
140 x 24mm
140 x 24mm T&G (tongue & groove)
140 x 38mm
90 x 38mm
90 x 90mm
60 x 60mm
Max Length 6000mm
Colours - Black, Standard Brown and Dark Brown
Environmental Benefits
• An increasing number of landscape architects and
contractors are specifying recycled plastic products
because of the environmental benefits they provide:
• Timber products are subject to increasing concerns
and legislation about sustainable sourcing and
restrictions on timber treatments
• Recycled plastic products are completely inert and do
not leach any chemicals into the soil or water courses
• Use of recycled plastic materials helps divert
materials from landfill
Cost advantages
• The products have proven longevity,
durability, resistance to damage or vandalism
and require little or no maintenance. As a
result they provide substantial cost savings
compared to traditional timber.
• Assumptions:
• The timber walkway must be replaced every
13 years.
• The plastic walkway must be replaced every 40
years.
• • Maintenance is required on the timber walkway after 10
years. This is calculated at 2 days every year per 100m of
boardwalk in year 11, 3 days every year in year 12 and 4
days in year 13. Materials costs of £46 per annum are
included in the final 3 years, equivalent to 1% of the cost
of the total timber materials.
• Other applications
• The Ponds Conservation Trust continues to look for other
applications in the area that may benefit from using plastic
materials, as opposed to traditional timber materials. The
material has been used on four separate sites, including a
school pond. A recent project has used recycled plastic
materials for the construction of fishing pegs, improving
access and providing a non-slip surface from which people
can access the pond directly.
