A Study Of Aneurysm Pathogenesis And Progression
Over the past 30 years, the study of aneurysm pathogenesis and progression has become a
multidisciplinary e ort involving a wide range of areas spanning from molecular cell biology to solid
and fluid mechanics. The studies have been motivated by the need of providing an swers to the
following questions [12]:
1. Formation:Whatcausesarterialaneurysmstoform?Whydoonlysomepeopledevelop aneurysms and
others don t? Why do aneurysms dominantly form at specific locations in certain arteries?
2. Growth: Which factors a ect aneurysm growth, once it has formed? Can aneurysm growth rate be
predicted?
3. Rupture: Is there a way to quantify the risk of rupture at any given moment during aneurysm
growth?

Therefore, it is standing to reason to assume, that aging plays an important role in AAA pathogenesis.
The assumption is, that

specific changes in the geometry of the vessel (length, diameter, and wall structure/sti ness) resulting
from the natural aging process combined with changes they induce in the hemo dynamics, are the
primary cause of aneurysm formation. This assumption postulates, that the mentioned coupling
induces a segment of the aortic wall to degrade and simultaneously leads to a gradually increase of its
diameter.
A lot of research has been devoted to the fundmental mechanisms of aging in the arteries. Generally
spoken, the aging process leads to an increase in the arterial diameter and a sti ening as well as
thickening of the arterial wall. The median layer undergoes the bigger changes thinning out and losing
its orderly arrangement of elastin laminas and fibers. The elastin laminas and fibers become
fragmented and unorganized leading to decreasing elastic properties and increasing the sti ness [16].
From fluid mechanical viewpoint, the speed of the pulse wave in the artery increases, as sti ness goes
up with age. It was shown, that the wave speed nearly doubles for a 60 year old adult compared to a
10 year old child (from 6.5 m/s to upwards of 11 m/s) [17].
Studies found out, that the aging iliac

The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe
To begin with, Poe has carefully tailored the narrative in a manner to fit the theory of single effect.
The unnamed narrator suggests that his main job is to narrate. His logical treatment and explanation of
what happens throughout the story adds plausibility and credibility to the narrator. Darrel Abel
described the narrator as Anthropos for he, the narrator, remains uncharacterized, undescribed and
even unnamed (177). Although the reader does not know much about him, the attention is fully drawn
instead to the strangeness in the House of Usher and the horror tour inside the house. Poe builds a
strong connection between the narrator and the reader, The reader represents Poe s ideal narrator, and
Poe s narrator represents his ideal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poe s psychological approach to the story makes the connection between the reader and the narrator
stronger and shows the strategy that Poe adopted in conveying the feelings from the text into the
reader s mind. Thus, what the reader experiences in the process of reading the text reveals exactly
what happens to the narrator. In return, what happens to the narrator suggests the process the reader
undergoes in the reading of Poe s story: The reader becomes an active mediator containing the
psychological effects of the story s utterance, so the narrator s imagination records a series of
psychological effects that constitute the action of Poe s text (Bieganowski 178).
The second element that Poe dedicates to achieving unity of effect is setting. Much of the horror in
The Fall of the House of Usher is achieved through its gloomy setting. The story opens with a grim
start: During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, when the clouds
hung oppressively low in the heavens, I had been passing alone, on horseback, through a singularly
dreary tract of country; and at length found myself, as the shades of the evening drew on, within view
of the melancholy House of Usher (Poe 117).
Poe wastes no time putting the reader in front of the image of an eerie, old mansion. As a result, the
reader will soon be aware of a sense of death and decay. Poe s setting plants the seed of horror

Paul Laurence Dunbar We Wear Mask
What does it mean to be a good poet? Who is a good poet? There is only one answer to these
questions, and the answer is that a good poet is someone who can bring hidden and exciting emotions
through their work and can make the readers feel exactly what they were trying to convey through
words. Paul Laurence Dunbar is the best African American poet of the 19th century and early 20th
century. His work leaves behind a legacy. Especially the poem We Wear Mask . The poem strongly
conveys the struggle, the inner experience, and the humiliation of the African American community.

He suggests that they believed the people with power should see what they want them to see. They
never expressed their true feelings. From the beginning, African Americans have been represented in a
false way to the society. As Daly Guilamo emphasizes in his article Paul Laurence Dunbar and Juan
Bosch Converse on Racial Violence: Writing Justice and Injustice that Paul Laurence Dunbar uses the
guise of white American guilt to portray lynching as a racist tradition that is outdated and
incompatible with modernism. (p. 22). Daly Guilamo article emphasizes about how people should
have given them the respect they deserved even as slaves. Moreover, Dunbar knew that words are
more powerful than any other thing in this world. Just as Joanne Gabbin, states in his article Intimate
Intercessions in the Poetry of Paul Laurence Dunbar that the Biblical figure who helped to establish
the Christian church, Dunbar took seriously his parents charge to be a great man who would carry the
word to his people (p. 227). We wear the mask expresses every bit of expression that African
Americans, slaves have felt. It contributes to cultural ideas and expectations to the society in the form
of expression. It promotes the values of African Americans having rights to freely express themselves,
but they couldn t. It supports the idea that slaves were hiding their emotions because they felt it was
the best way to get away from the

Thomas Nagel s Theory Of Death Essay
In this paper, I will first elaborate on my understanding of Thomas Nagel s theory as to why death, a
permanent nonexistent state, is an undesirable state of being. I will then argue as to why I believe that
death is a misfortune using the argument that death terminates the positive experience of life as well as
rebut the counter argument for why death is good because it gives meaning to life.
Nagel champions the belief that death, a state of permanent posthumous nonexistence defined as
unsupplemented by any form of conscious survival (769), is an occurrence that harms us. Nagel s first
argument for why death is bad is that it deprives us of life, of which contains various goods that make
life valuable. Nagel supports his argument by saying that if he [the man] had not died, he would have
continued to live it, and to possess whatever good there is in living (772). He continues to list goods
such as perception, desire, activity and thought (769) as he believes that these are the essential
elements to a person meaningful life. Though Nagel concedes that the goods he listed entail both joy
and misery, as they are also fundamental factors of life, he also believes that a life which has more
misery than it does joy is still desirable and should not make death seem like a better option as it ends
the misery. His reasoning for this belief is that while a life may have more negative experiences than
positive experiences, it is still emphatically positive, (770) as the

Legal Personality Of Salomon V. Samlomon And Co Ltd.
Once a company is formed and incorporated it has perpetual existence meaning it has its own legal
personality. It can enter in to contracts, have its own obligations, it can purchase or rent property, it
can employ people, etc. All these are the responsibility of the company, not the directors or others
involved in the company, however the director have responsibilities to act in the best interest in the

Examples Of Conflict In Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan
Within the text Rules of the Game written by Amy Tan, the clash of Chinese beliefs and values with
those of American beliefs and values can be seen. This clash of values and beliefs between two culture
causes many mother daughter conflicts throughout the story. Waverly grew up in San Francisco in a
Chinese American neighborhood while her mother was a first generation immigrant. This difference in
their surroundings has caused their beliefs and values to differ from each other. Due to the clashing of
Chinese and American cultures, there are multiple incidents of conflict between MeiMei and her
mother. A key example of such an incident is when MeiMei is forced to accompany her mother to the
Saturday market. According to the text, MeiMei s mother would proudly walk with MeiMei and tell
everyone who looked towards them that MeiMei was her daughter. MeiMei then told her mom if she
could stop telling everyone who looked their way that MeiMei was her daughter. Her mother
misunderstood what MeiMei said, thinking that MeiMei was ashamed of walking with her. This then
caused MeiMei to tell her mother, If you want to show me off, then why don t you learn to play chess.
When MeiMei had realized that what she said was wrong, she ran away from her mother. To MeiMei,
her mother going around and telling everyone that MeiMei was her daughter was embarrassing
because she didn t want her mom to use her as a source to gain popularity. In MeiMei s beliefs, her
chess victories were her own accomplishments, one she should be the only one to use since she feels
as though she gained them on her own. Her mother on the other hand, sees MeiMei s achievements as
a victory for the whole family and is proud of her daughter. MeiMei misunderstands this, thinking her
mother was just crediting herself for MeiMei s work and so runs off. This clash in values caused this
incident. MeiMei s escape from her mother leads to a new conflict of MeiMei running away from her
mom. It is stated in the text that MeiMei ran through the alleyways until she realized that she was
running from nothing. After two hours, MeiMei returned home and her mother said, We not
concerning this girl. This girl not have concerning for us. From this it can be

I realized that nowhere in my practice did I provide diagnostic assessments to help me analyze
specific areas of success or struggle pertaining to learning objectives within the course. This module
showed me how to identify these areas that may need additional support or enrichment. I learned how
to collect and compile much more informative data on student knowledge in these areas, and how to
use these measures to help improve student learning.
My first goal became to develop and acquire a bank of formative assessments and diagnostic questions
to better determine each student s prior knowledge of a learning objective and, more importantly, their
misunderstandings or misconceptions of that particular learning objective. I started by ... Show more

Students that extend and apply ideas inappropriately elsewhere are overgeneralizing. Students that
have difficulty distinguishing between two concepts, or create hybrids of concepts, have partial
conceptions. Finally, students that have misinterpreted and internalized prior content have conceptual
misunderstandings. If an educator can identify the type of misconception, they can create better
tailored instruction.
In order to uncover the misconceptions my students had prior to teaching a new learning target, I
decided to administer short, diagnostic probes that put emphasis on explanations of their thinking and
reasoning (in place of an answer only response). I stressed that this was not graded, instead meant to
help me understand their thinking so I could plan, design, and provide instruction that would be much
more responsive to their needs. This was the first time I administered a formative assessment prior to a
lesson.
The first learning target probe (p 135) focused on uncovering any misconceptions prior to teaching
theorems about lines, angles, and triangles, such as vertical angles are congruent, measures of interior
angles of a triangle sum to 180, and the relationships between the interior and exterior angles of a
triangle. Specifically, I was looking to see if they recognized congruent and supplementary angle
relationships based on their logical reasoning of properties, or

The Columbia disaster, a catastrophic event where a space shuttle broke apart during re entry. All
seven of the crew members were killed on that day. This event really shook up NASA, both good and

The Thin Ideal Is Being Pushed On Children
Now that it has been proven that the thin ideal is being pushed on children, children as young as 5, one
should know the possibly consequences of its exposure. When children are constantly being shown
one certain ideal, it soon becomes internalize, which leads to behaviors that often go unnoticed by
parents. While these behaviors may seem harmless at first glance, they can be part of a bigger
unhealthier problem. In a study were young girls played with dolls with different body proportions,
and then were given snacks to eat, this was the result, they ate less food when they played with the
thin dolls than when they played with the average sized doll. (Anschutz et al) The girls were left alone

Clearly people have begun to more active, but more has to be done. Parents should get together and be
more involved with the type of media they expose their young girls and boys to. In the world of social
media, smart phones, and the Internet, there are now more ways than ever for companies to push
dangerous imagery towards children. Toys and dolls are not the only way for a child to be targeted,
and parents need restrict what their children are exposed to. It is impossible to shield ones child to
everything, but watching what toys you buy them, and what kind of media they watch at home is a
good way to start. Promoting body positivity and healthier body images are ways to stop your kids
from developing eating disorders, and self esteem issues later in life. Parents play a huge role in
shaping how kids think and feel about their bodies. Starting to bolster kids body image early, even in
preschool, can make a big difference in how kids feel about themselves as they grow up. (Filucci)
Teaching young children how media can be manipulative can be a very important way to help them
avoid internalizing harmful imagery, such as the thin ideal. Communities should demand media
illiteracy be taught in middle schools and even elementary schools. One should not have to wait until
they are in high school or college to learn about the dangerous tactics that are used in the media, to
indoctrinate the public. We know that children can

Causes Of The Second Triumvirate
The Second Triumvirate existed from 43 B.C. to 33 B.C. The Second Triumvirate lasted for only ten
years. The Second Triumvirate years were filled with a variety of battles between the three men. Rome
will fall with the new Triumvirate because the people have been deceived and have faced many
troubles, the Triumvirate has tasted power and are greedy for more, and the three men in the
Triumvirate mistrust and dislike each other. The Triumvirate stealing from the public s fortune shows
their lack of morals and concern for Rome. Before the war against the conspirators started, Mark
Antony commanded Lepidus to fetch the will (4.1.11) in order to see how they would cut some charge
in legacies (4.1.12). Some may say Antony took the money to help protect the people of Rome.
However, Mark Antony used the poor, naive, confused public to ensure he got revenge on Brutus and

Analysis of Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird, by...
Wallace Stevens is not an easy poet to understand. His work is purposely twisted and tangled so one is
forced to thing whether they want to or not. Stevens poetry ranges from real life situations to
situations which are simply a depiction of his imagination. One thing can be concluded though,
Stevens does not allow his work to have a single meaning. Why should he? This is the upmost quality
that makes his stand out from his competitors in the poetic industry. An interesting theme though
which Wallace truly enjoys writing about, in all seriousness, is something thought provoking
perception. The book definition of perception is appending [something] by the means of senses or the
mind . In his poem, Thirteen Ways of Looking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where one can see the new role the blackbird is playing. A new perception of the bird. It is now
part of one s conscious. It does not have an on or off button that any human can control just like a
river...moving (Stevens 48). A new theme is suggested in this part which makes its way up to the top a
couple more times in the work. It is choices. It this specific case it is clear that the individuals the
speaker is referring to do not have a choice but to acknowledge the bird. In the fifth part on the other
hand, once again a new idea is presented and this is not the case. Here the bird becomes an objectified
beauty but this doesn t last long because as the sixth part approaches, the readers once again return to
the winter time filled with icicles (Stevens 17 19). A circular pattern can now be seen with the seasons.
Another hint of a continuous process occurring the process of perception.
In the seventh stanza the speaker calls up the thin men of Haddam (a city in Connecticut) and asks
about the golden birds (Stevens 25 26). He goes on to say that the Blackbird walks around the feet of
the women about [them] (Stevens 28 29). What could he possibly mean? Loazi, a philosophical
author, wrote in his book that one should Know the masculine, keep to the feminine. With that being
said, when the lines from the poem are re evaluated, it can be seen that the

Wainwright Building
The relationship between form and function had always been the core of Sullivan s career. In his point
of view, anything, whether it is organic or inorganic, could be deemed as the representation of its
content and function, and every particular function has developed its own form. Sullivan explain this
idea by illustrating oak tree in his Kindergarten Charts, he wrote, generally speaking outer
appearances resemble inner purposes. For instances, the form, oak tree, resembles and expresses the
function or purpose, oak (Sullivan, Kindergarten chats). In here, form could be understood as
phenomenon of things, but not just the appearance. In his article, The Tall Office Building Artistically
Considered, published in 1986, Louis Sullivan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, actually, what Sullivan really cares about is the form. Otherwise, he would not have this much
thoughts about the relationship between form and function. Sullivan always gives high priority to
architectural form, especially its ornament, but with a kind of ambivalence in his mind. On the one
hand, he believes that architecture could be great without any decoration or ornament. On the other
hand, thoughtful designed ornament is also indispensable to architecture. Finally, he gave the answer,
he thinks particular ornament should be applied on the particular kinds of architecture, just like
different trees have various types of leaves. So, architectural form is not influenced by the extrinsic
factor, but the growth of itself. Now it is understandable why Wainwright Building got such a
luxuriant ornament on its top. Under the eave, the surface between windows are extended, and
sophisticated spiraled leaves surrounds the circular windows. It is just the metaphor of the organic

The Case Of Triple Point Technology
Question 1: In the case of Triple Point Technology, the non cash components serve several important
roles. First, there is considerable uncertainty around the expected growth and future performance of
the company. Consequently, it can be challenging for a buyer and seller to agree on an appropriate
purchase price, given differing views on the future and a buyer s natural uncertainty. Using non cash
components (such as an earn out) can allow for the seller to participate in the optimistic scenario and
help bridge the gap on accepting a lower than desired purchase price. Second, buyers (especially
private equity) do not have the expertise and institutional knowledge to effectively run the target
business following purchase. Therefore, non cash components (earn outs retained common stock) are
a powerful way to align incentives and ensure the sellers have a vested interest in the continued
success of the business and smooth transition. Third, management options create the ability to
incentivize and attract new talent to the business, as Roger s departure will likely create a critical
vacancy to fill. Finally, non cash components (such as a seller note) can also help raise the purchase
price as financing the acquisition of a small business can often times be challenging (especially for the
similar sized strategic buyer in Offer 2). Question 2: In valuing the two offers that TPT received, there
are three main components in which the founders likely place considerable value

There Should Be No Credit Cards
There Should Be No Credit Cards
Introduction
Today many people blame their credit card debt on the economy. With their being so little
employment with very little income; we are forced to live under our means. Credit is usually misused
and accumulates large amounts of debt. Many people use credit cards for daily expenses or to buy
their wants rather their needs. Often times, credit cards are used to pay rent, utilities and other daily
expenses due to people living off of paycheck to paycheck and do not make enough money to pay
their monthly bills to buy necessities. Some people may use credit cards to keep up their material
social statuses amongst their peers. Other people have some sort of social influences; however, these
people do not need to rely on credit to live, it is just to impress friends. Credit card companies reel
college students with applications in the mail daily and advertisements are causing them financial
burdens.
When Debt Begins
The debt of credit cards typically starts at a young age in life, before discipline and life experiences
have taken place. Yes, they get you even before you start college. They know when your eighteenth
birthday has come. It is a given fact that most credit card debt is accrued right before or during
college. I would say definitely before college. Most teenagers want to get what is hot for their first
year in college with their new credit cards they hide from their parents. Mannix performed a study
showing that college

The Death of Socrates
The Death of Socrates
The Death of Socrates was painted by a French painter . His name was Jacques Louis David. The
painting represents the scene of the death of Greek philosopher Socrates. He was condemned to die by
drinking hemlock for the expression of his ideas against those of Athens and corrupting the minds of
the youth. The painting also depicts both Plato and Crito, with the former sitting at the edge of the bed
and the latter clutching the knee of Socrates. Socrates had the choice to go into exile and , hence, give
up his philosophic vocation or be sentenced to death by drinking hemlock. Socrates chose death. In
this painting, someone hands a confident Socrates the goblet of hemlock. Socrates hand pointing to the

Fellowship Of The Ring Movie And Book Comparison Essay
The Fellowship of the Ring Book/Movie Comparison Written by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of
the Ring was released in 1954; it is the first book in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The plot centers
around a young hobbit, Frodo Baggins, who must embark on a treacherous journey to destroy the One
Ring. He is accompanied by Sam, Merry, and Pippin. Some of the other key characters include
Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir, and Gimli. A movie adaptation was released in 2001. Although it
is tremendously rare, in this case, the movie adaptation more efficiently tells the story than the book.
The book commences with Bilbo Baggins one hundred and eleventh birthday celebration (Tolkien 21
30). At the end of his party, Bilbo announces that he is going to depart. Suddenly, he mysteriously
vanishes, and the crowd is astounded (Tolkien 30). Bilbo quickly runs to his home, grabs his
belongings, and walks out the door, vowing never to return. However, right before he departs, he is
briefly visited by Gandalf the wizard. Gandalf encourages him to leave behind a ring (Tolkien 33 34).
At this point in the story, the reader has no clue about the significance of the ring or ... Show more

However, sometimes this acute detail is unnecessary. For an example: throughout the book, Frodo and
his companions spend a large portion of time wandering through the woods, avoiding the Black Riders
who desire to seize the One Ring from Frodo (Tolkien 70 145). All of this time spent wandering is not
important to the story and can quite quickly make the reader lose interest or become bored. While it is
necessary to show Frodo traveling, it is not necessary to have seventy five pages dedicated to traveling
through the woods. In the movie, the time spent traveling through the woods is very brief (Jackson).
This helps the viewer stay engaged in the story. The movie keeps only the important events, which
gives the viewer an easier understanding of the

Characteristics Of Leopards And Leopards
Leopards The name leopard comes from a Greek word meaning leopardus. Which it s a combination
of a lion and a panther. They are also considered as panthers but it just has spots. Leopards look
similar to the jaguars but just that the leopards have little spots than the jaguar s spots. These big cats
aren t just any other big cats like the lion, jaguars, and tigers, What makes them different than the
jaguars is their coat, how they take care of their cubs, and what their diet is. I know leopards are
similar like these other big cats but let s just focus on these unique cats. These panthers with spots
have a soft fur just like any other mammals. Most of the mammals fur are soft. Leopards and jaguars
have the same patterns of fur, such as spot that are black. The coat of most leopards is light tan with
many dense black spots (page. 202 203) says Schlitter. Which the leopards are described in some
people eyes when they see them. As in the jaguars their fur have bigger spots and sometimes have
little spots inside the spots. The leopards fur camouflages them into the grass that is around them,
when they are being sneaky for their meal of the day.
A leopard s diet are mostly anything that has considered meat which makes them carnivores. Each
time that they go and hunt, they aren t as picky on what they eat. Everytime that they go hunting for
their food they hunt for gazelle, impala, and deer. On occasion when they go hunting they go for
monkeys, rodents, and birds.

Wuthering Heights and Northanger Abbey as Gothic Novels...
While on the vigorous journey through a novel, a reader can be faced with many questions, put forth
intentionally by the author, as well as ones they might conjure up for themselves. Roland Barthes says
Literature is the question minus the answer. For the most part this is true, however when one is
reading for leisure or the author does not portray as well as they could this statement is invalid. Two
novels that have been broken down recently are Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights and Jane Austen s
Northanger Abbey. Neither book has a common central question, but they both have their pros and
cons. Wuthering Heights is a book containing an intricate plot, and a labyrinth of relationships and
emotions. The characterization in this book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, maybe, however, the reader does see Heathcliff as the underbelly of the human race, the
epitome of humanity. This underbelly is predominately seen in Heathcliff s relationship with Isabella.
We remember that when Isabella is first introduced to us, Heathcliff makes fun of her and her brother
for fighting over something so insignificant as a dog, to the reader, the two Linton children are as
normal as the era permitted. Yet Heathcliff destroys her, she ensures this to us by saying I gave
[Heathcliff] my heart, and he took and pinched it to death and flung it back at me. People feel with

Isabella began to cry, but immediately dashing the water from her lashes recommenced.... (170). Not
only does Isabella say that she is broken by these turn of events, but the fact that she does not let
herself cry is another indication of severe emotional distress. The worse part of this is whole ordeal is
that Heathcliff enjoys it. He says much later on in the book that I have lost the faculty of enjoying
their destruction... (312) this implies that at one time he did enjoy destruction of others.
Different people have tried to argue that Heathcliff is the way he is because of the distance between
him and his dead lover Catherine. However the reader must take under consideration the cause of
Catherine s death. The

What Would Happen If Foot Binding In China Had Not Been...
What would have happened if foot binding in China had not been outlawed in 1912? Since perhaps
around the tenth or eleventh century (the exact date is unknown), foot binding was a very common
practice in China to modify the shape of women s feet. The process began at a young age; the mothers
and aunts would apply tight binding to the feet of their young girls. This practice became very popular
for all social classes during the Song Dynasty. This was a symbol of elegance and beauty in Chinese
culture. However, this was not only a symbol of elegance and beauty. During this time when arranged
marriages were very common, the size of girls feet determined how desirable of a bride they would be.
For example, the most desirable foot size for a bride would be three inches, which was often known as
a golden lotus . A four inch silver lotus was respected. Feet that were five inches or longer were
known as iron feet ; marriages for girls with iron feet were much more unlikely. In other words, foot
binding became a symbol of status, even amongst the elite. But, this practice caused many health
concerns. Toe nails would often in grow, which causes infection and injury. Most of the time, blood
circulation to the toes would be cut off. As a result, injuries would be less likely to heal. Girls would

The Importance Of Electricity In Canada
Electricity has been here since the early 1900 s. When it started, there wasn t much demand for it due
to the fact that most people didn t have it in their houses, and that the only use for it was for light
bulbs. Then came heaters, stoves, followed by electric appliances and everything else that is powered
by electricity. Today the demand is so strong for electricity that have to find other ways how to
produce it. Currently Canada is the number one producer of electricity in the world. The United States
have to buy energy from Canada, because the demand is too strong. Our use of electricity is causing
problems to our planet so now is the perfect time to produce more solar panels.
Solar energy begins with the sun. Solar panels, also known as photovoltaics, are used to convert light
from the sun, which is composed of particles of energy called photons , into electricity that can be
used to power electrical loads. Light from the sun is a renewable energy resource that provides clean

Eating Disorders And Eating Disorders
A relapse, simply put, is a period of deterioration after a period of recovery. Sometimes relapse creeps
up on you over time while other times it seems to explode in your face and take over your life in one

The tricky part of relapse is that many people get used to these periods of deterioration and struggle,
accepting that this is their ultimate reality while feeling completely defeated and powerless.
In regards to eating disorders specifically, a relapse may include these signs or symptoms:
skipping meals, starting a new diet, becoming unusually rigid about eating (such as the time of day,
type of food, or location), avoidance of specific foods for no reason, and/or labeling foods weighing or

Henry David Thoreau Analysis
Henry David Thoreau, a nineteenth century writer, philosopher, and abolitionist, establishes himself as
an outsider, a passionate rebel against the status quo, in a passage from Walden. He writes to explain
why he went into the woods to live and left behind what most people would consider civilization.
Especially for an audience of contemporaries in the 1850s, before the Civil War, his choice to live in
the woods would have been outrageous even revolutionary. Even today, his choice to live in a small
cabin in the woods would be considered counter to the status quo, so the modern audience is also
intrigued by his explanation. His language and method of presenting his ideas create an argument
between civilization and real life, and it is clear that he values real life in the woods over what most
people would consider civilization. He pits civilization against life throughout, though he hides the
reference to civilization behind a contrast to life in the words not life, and he suggests that living in
civilization would be a resignation. He counters this with many references to life (nouns) and live and
living (verbs), such as to live deliberately, facts of life, I had not lived, wish to live, not life, living is
so dear, live deep, marrow of life, to live so sturdily. The paragraph is bursting with life references,
and we immediately discern the urgency of his desire. We learn the temperament of the man through
this intensity. The contrast between life and not life is

Dostoevsky s Crime And Punishment
Dostoevsky s Crime and Punishment contains an abundance of confusing scenes that are frequently
left up to the interpretation of the reader. Many of these scenes are focused on Raskolnikov and the
fact that he often blurs together his conscious and subconscious states. Therefore, the reader is left to
contemplate the validity of certain situations. When reading a novel as hefty as Crime and Punishment
it is important to pick apart some of the many subtleties in order to gain more insight to both the novel
as a whole and the psyche of Raskolnikov. In an attempt to better understand Raskolnikov s
disorientation between his conscious and subconscious states, it is helpful to break down and analyze
Raskolnikov s third dream and some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the reader gets a lot of insight into Raskolnikov s thoughts through the way Dostoevsky sets
up the narrative of the novel, we never imagine what it s like to actively think like Raskolnikov. Yet,
still, a question remains. Why would Dostoevsky fully submerge the reader into the mind of a
murderer?
Dostoevsky is attempting to have the reader connect to Raskolnikov. This instance of Raskolnikov s
haziness between the conscious and the subconscious is similar to having an incredibly realistic
dream; you wake up feeling as though what you dreamt about actually happened to you. This act of
vivid dreaming can sometimes be caused by any subconscious emotions felt leading up to the moment
you fall asleep. In Raskolnikov s case, whether or not he feels any sort of genuine guilt for murdering
Alyona is fairly ambiguous, but it is obvious that he is paranoid about the idea of being caught. For
example, shortly before Raskolnikov s run in with the tradesman, he and Razumikhin go speak with
Porfiry and Zamyotov. Throughout their meeting, Raskolnikov seems to be on edge. He even states, I
m feverish again!...Did Porfiry wink at me just now, or not? Must be nonsense; why would he wink?
Do they want to irritate my nerves, or are they taunting me? Either it s all a mirage, or they
know!...They must have been talking about me before we came! (254 5). Raskolnikov, just like his
reactions to his first two dreams

Cultural Influence Of Child-Rearing Practices In Early...
Human Developement 1 Culture and society have profound influences on a child s growth and
development and are important considerations for early childhood teachers if they wish to better
understand children and provide higher quality early childhood education and services to children and
their families, (Te Whaariki, Ministry of Education, 1996). One particular example of the effect that
culture and society can have on the growth and development of a child is child rearing practices.
Different cultural groups and societies have diverse styles of child rearing practices which are
uniquely influenced by a range of values, beliefs and dominate assumptions (Berk, 2003). A
significant factor in view of child rearing practices is the role ... Show more content on

Thus there is a clear link between child rearing practices, child interactions and children developing a
wide range of cognitive skills. Child rearing practices which include a lot of child involvement
encourage a child s exploration, extend cognitive development and help to extend new skills (Zhou,
Huang, Wang, Wang, Zhao, Yang and Yang, 2006). Many features of child rearing practices are not
only dependent on the education of the caregivers, but also how the caregivers themselves have been
raised. If caregivers were raised with an awareness of the value of nutritious meals they will be more
likely to provided good nutrition to their children and help children reach optimal levels of physical
growth (Berk, 2003) If caregivers value physical activity themselves, or participated in it regularly as
a child, they will be more likely to provide an environment where a child can engage physically, such
as a bike to ride, or sports equipment. This is all dependent 4 however, on such factors as the health
of the parents and/or the level of household income which may be different from that experienced by
the caregiver as a child. Even the most physically active caregivers may not be able to support the
child to engage in sporting activities which require specific gear, fees, or costly trips to the local pools.
If however child rearing practices encourage children even to engage in simple outside play, such as
running, or climbing a tree a

Is Hannibal Lecter s Integrity In The Film Silence Of The...
The film Silence of the Lambs risks its integrity by banking heavily on the interactions between the
two main actors to keep the viewer engaged;Though a lot is wagered in this move, much is gleaned as
Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster both proved their worth bringing in countless awards for their
performances. The film closely follows Clarice Starling, a budding FBI agent in training, as she
follows the case of serial killer, Buffalo Bill. As opposed to most horror movies, there is not one sole
villain; Hannibal Lecter is a sort of grey area character due to the fact that he is a psychotic,
cannibalistic killer, but he in fact actually assists in the apprehension of Buffalo Bill. Though she is
supposed to be working as part of a team, throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen by just glancing at the dvd case, as the Death s head Hawkmoth is actually
constructed with 7 bodies; this makes quite a lot of sense since they could easily represent the 7
victims in this film. The moth, in its simplest interpretation, symbolizes change. This is so blatantly
obvious that Lecter literally says The significance of the moth is change . That which is referred to
with the theme of change is much less obvious however, as it could represent a number of the
characters. I believe it most closely is to exemplify Clarice s journey from a woman trying to become
recognized in the law enforcement world, to an FBI agent who, by her self, conquers her demons by
silencing her lambs, by taking down serial killer, Buffalo Bill. Interesting that I would mention Lambs
right? It s no coincidence. Lambs are beautiful, innocent and helpless, needing a caretaker for
nurturing, impotent against the slaughterer. Clarice tried to intervene on their behalf, and failed.
Because of this, she has always heard lambs screaming in the back of her mind. Enter this film, and
Starling herself becomes the lamb, constantly the prey of men such as Lecter and Bill who seem just
to be waiting to jump at the chance to slaughter her (one butchers his victims, while the other eats
them). Ironically, it is Lecter, who we think of as the slaughterer, that

Travels of a T-Shirt Book Report Essay
Question 1: Write a summary of this book
Often, when we think of a t shirt, not much consideration goes past throwing it on and walking out the
door. We discover in The Travels of a T Shirt in the Global Economy, author Pietra Rivoli conveys the
story of a t shirt she purchased in Florida for just $5.99. Beginning with core element of the t shirt, she
describes the cotton boom in the United States and why we have reigned supreme as the leading
cotton producer. She even meets with a Texan farmer who warms your heart from the very beginning
of the chapter. Next, the cotton goes on to textile mills and factories, and Rivoli explains the history of
the textile industry. With this lesson, she demonstrates how the textile industry boom was a ... Show

Her writing style takes into consideration those with very little economic awareness and fluidly
phrases things into layman s terms. She is able to expand on the most complex ideas, such as quotas
and tariffs in the textile industry, and still paint a complete picture in the mind of the reader.
The relevance of this book can be measured by its ability to speak to the everyday individual, who
may or may not know anything about economics, and plant the seed toward global economic
education. It provides a keen social awareness to people who may or may not ordinarily care about
international economics and can have an eye opening effect toward what really happens in the textile
industry.
Rivoli also raises some substantial points about free trade and protectionism. After the facts are
presented, she identifies that most of these alleged free markets aren t actually free at all. She explains
that quotas, political relationships, and labor issues make these markets restricted from being
completely free. She writes a story of the wealth enhancing possibilities of globalization in some
settings but a can t win trap in others, a trap where power imbalances and poorly functioning politics
and markets seem to doom the economic future.
Question 3: Is the author arguing for free trade or protectionism? Explain.
Rivoli is not making an argument for either side of protectionism or free trade. Of course, as an avid
economist, Rivoli advocates free trade, as

Therefore, it is standing to reason to assume, that aging plays an important role in AAA pathogenesis. The assumption is, that 18 specific changes in the geometry of the vessel (length, diameter, and wall structure/sti ness) resulting from the natural aging process combined with changes they induce in the hemo dynamics, are the primary cause of aneurysm formation. This assumption postulates, that the mentioned coupling induces a segment of the aortic wall to degrade and simultaneously leads to a gradually increase of its diameter. A lot of research has been devoted to the fundmental mechanisms of aging in the arteries. Generally spoken, the aging process leads to an increase in the arterial diameter and a sti ening as well as thickening of the arterial wall. The median layer undergoes the bigger changes thinning out and losing its orderly arrangement of elastin laminas and fibers. The elastin laminas and fibers become fragmented and unorganized leading to decreasing elastic properties and increasing the sti ness [16]. From fluid mechanical viewpoint, the speed of the pulse wave in the artery increases, as sti ness goes up with age. It was shown, that the wave speed nearly doubles for a 60 year old adult compared to a 10 year old child (from 6.5 m/s to upwards of 11 m/s) [17]. Studies found out, that the aging iliac ... • 3. The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe To begin with, Poe has carefully tailored the narrative in a manner to fit the theory of single effect. The unnamed narrator suggests that his main job is to narrate. His logical treatment and explanation of what happens throughout the story adds plausibility and credibility to the narrator. Darrel Abel described the narrator as Anthropos for he, the narrator, remains uncharacterized, undescribed and even unnamed (177). Although the reader does not know much about him, the attention is fully drawn instead to the strangeness in the House of Usher and the horror tour inside the house. Poe builds a strong connection between the narrator and the reader, The reader represents Poe s ideal narrator, and Poe s narrator represents his ideal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Poe s psychological approach to the story makes the connection between the reader and the narrator stronger and shows the strategy that Poe adopted in conveying the feelings from the text into the reader s mind. Thus, what the reader experiences in the process of reading the text reveals exactly what happens to the narrator. In return, what happens to the narrator suggests the process the reader undergoes in the reading of Poe s story: The reader becomes an active mediator containing the psychological effects of the story s utterance, so the narrator s imagination records a series of psychological effects that constitute the action of Poe s text (Bieganowski 178). The second element that Poe dedicates to achieving unity of effect is setting. Much of the horror in The Fall of the House of Usher is achieved through its gloomy setting. The story opens with a grim start: During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, when the clouds hung oppressively low in the heavens, I had been passing alone, on horseback, through a singularly dreary tract of country; and at length found myself, as the shades of the evening drew on, within view of the melancholy House of Usher (Poe 117). Poe wastes no time putting the reader in front of the image of an eerie, old mansion. As a result, the reader will soon be aware of a sense of death and decay. Poe s setting plants the seed of horror ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is only one answer to these questions, and the answer is that a good poet is someone who can bring hidden and exciting emotions through their work and can make the readers feel exactly what they were trying to convey through words. Paul Laurence Dunbar is the best African American poet of the 19th century and early 20th century. His work leaves behind a legacy. Especially the poem We Wear Mask . From the beginning, African Americans have been represented in a false way to the society. As Daly Guilamo emphasizes in his article Paul Laurence Dunbar and Juan Bosch Converse on Racial Violence: Writing Justice and Injustice that Paul Laurence Dunbar uses the guise of white American guilt to portray lynching as a racist tradition that is outdated and incompatible with modernism. (p. 22). Daly Guilamo article emphasizes about how people should have given them the respect they deserved even as slaves. Moreover, Dunbar knew that words are more powerful than any other thing in this world. • 8. Thomas Nagel s Theory Of Death Essay In this paper, I will first elaborate on my understanding of Thomas Nagel s theory as to why death, a permanent nonexistent state, is an undesirable state of being. I will then argue as to why I believe that death is a misfortune using the argument that death terminates the positive experience of life as well as rebut the counter argument for why death is good because it gives meaning to life. Nagel champions the belief that death, a state of permanent posthumous nonexistence defined as unsupplemented by any form of conscious survival (769), is an occurrence that harms us. Nagel s first argument for why death is bad is that it deprives us of life, of which contains various goods that make life valuable. Nagel supports his argument by saying that if he [the man] had not died, he would have continued to live it, and to possess whatever good there is in living (772). He continues to list goods such as perception, desire, activity and thought (769) as he believes that these are the essential elements to a person meaningful life. Though Nagel concedes that the goods he listed entail both joy and misery, as they are also fundamental factors of life, he also believes that a life which has more misery than it does joy is still desirable and should not make death seem like a better option as it ends the misery. His reasoning for this belief is that while a life may have more negative experiences than positive experiences, it is still emphatically positive, (770) as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Examples Of Conflict In Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan Within the text Rules of the Game written by Amy Tan, the clash of Chinese beliefs and values with those of American beliefs and values can be seen. This clash of values and beliefs between two culture causes many mother daughter conflicts throughout the story. Waverly grew up in San Francisco in a Chinese American neighborhood while her mother was a first generation immigrant. This difference in their surroundings has caused their beliefs and values to differ from each other. Due to the clashing of Chinese and American cultures, there are multiple incidents of conflict between MeiMei and her mother. A key example of such an incident is when MeiMei is forced to accompany her mother to the Saturday market. According to the text, MeiMei s mother would proudly walk with MeiMei and tell everyone who looked towards them that MeiMei was her daughter. MeiMei then told her mom if she could stop telling everyone who looked their way that MeiMei was her daughter. Her mother misunderstood what MeiMei said, thinking that MeiMei was ashamed of walking with her. This then caused MeiMei to tell her mother, If you want to show me off, then why don t you learn to play chess. When MeiMei had realized that what she said was wrong, she ran away from her mother. To MeiMei, her mother going around and telling everyone that MeiMei was her daughter was embarrassing because she didn t want her mom to use her as a source to gain popularity. In MeiMei s beliefs, her chess victories were her own accomplishments, one she should be the only one to use since she feels as though she gained them on her own. Her mother on the other hand, sees MeiMei s achievements as a victory for the whole family and is proud of her daughter. MeiMei misunderstands this, thinking her mother was just crediting herself for MeiMei s work and so runs off. This clash in values caused this incident. MeiMei s escape from her mother leads to a new conflict of MeiMei running away from her mom. It is stated in the text that MeiMei ran through the alleyways until she realized that she was running from nothing. After two hours, MeiMei returned home and her mother said, We not concerning this girl. This girl not have concerning for us. From this it can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to uncover the misconceptions my students had prior to teaching a new learning target, I decided to administer short, diagnostic probes that put emphasis on explanations of their thinking and reasoning (in place of an answer only response). I stressed that this was not graded, instead meant to help me understand their thinking so I could plan, design, and provide instruction that would be much more responsive to their needs. • 18. Causes Of The Second Triumvirate The Second Triumvirate existed from 43 B.C. to 33 B.C. The Second Triumvirate lasted for only ten years. The Second Triumvirate years were filled with a variety of battles between the three men. Rome will fall with the new Triumvirate because the people have been deceived and have faced many troubles, the Triumvirate has tasted power and are greedy for more, and the three men in the Triumvirate mistrust and dislike each other. The Triumvirate stealing from the public s fortune shows their lack of morals and concern for Rome. Before the war against the conspirators started, Mark Antony commanded Lepidus to fetch the will (4.1.11) in order to see how they would cut some charge in legacies (4.1.12). Some may say Antony took the money to help protect the people of Rome. However, Mark Antony used the poor, naive, confused public to ensure he got revenge on Brutus and the conspirators. Antony sparked the fire to start this war in order to get revenge and will use the people s money to get revenge, not to protect. In addition, the Triumvirate has no respect for human life. Their lack of sympathy towards the deaths of soldiers and civilians showed their inconsideration for them. They simply said that they shall not live (4.1.9) and that they are damn[ed] (4.1.9). • 19. Analysis of Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird, by... Wallace Stevens is not an easy poet to understand. His work is purposely twisted and tangled so one is forced to thing whether they want to or not. Stevens poetry ranges from real life situations to situations which are simply a depiction of his imagination. One thing can be concluded though, Stevens does not allow his work to have a single meaning. Why should he? This is the upmost quality that makes his stand out from his competitors in the poetic industry. An interesting theme though which Wallace truly enjoys writing about, in all seriousness, is something thought provoking perception. The book definition of perception is appending [something] by the means of senses or the mind . In his poem, Thirteen Ways of Looking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is where one can see the new role the blackbird is playing. A new perception of the bird. It is now part of one s conscious. It does not have an on or off button that any human can control just like a river...moving (Stevens 48). A new theme is suggested in this part which makes its way up to the top a couple more times in the work. It is choices. It this specific case it is clear that the individuals the speaker is referring to do not have a choice but to acknowledge the bird. In the fifth part on the other hand, once again a new idea is presented and this is not the case. Here the bird becomes an objectified beauty but this doesn t last long because as the sixth part approaches, the readers once again return to the winter time filled with icicles (Stevens 17 19). A circular pattern can now be seen with the seasons. Another hint of a continuous process occurring the process of perception. In the seventh stanza the speaker calls up the thin men of Haddam (a city in Connecticut) and asks about the golden birds (Stevens 25 26). He goes on to say that the Blackbird walks around the feet of the women about [them] (Stevens 28 29). What could he possibly mean? In his point of view, anything, whether it is organic or inorganic, could be deemed as the representation of its content and function, and every particular function has developed its own form. For instances, the form, oak tree, resembles and expresses the function or purpose, oak (Sullivan, Kindergarten chats). On the one hand, he believes that architecture could be great without any decoration or ornament. On the other hand, thoughtful designed ornament is also indispensable to architecture. Finally, he gave the answer, he thinks particular ornament should be applied on the particular kinds of architecture, just like different trees have various types of leaves. So, architectural form is not influenced by the extrinsic factor, but the growth of itself. Now it is understandable why Wainwright Building got such a luxuriant ornament on its top. • 22. The Case Of Triple Point Technology Question 1: In the case of Triple Point Technology, the non cash components serve several important roles. First, there is considerable uncertainty around the expected growth and future performance of the company. Consequently, it can be challenging for a buyer and seller to agree on an appropriate purchase price, given differing views on the future and a buyer s natural uncertainty. Using non cash components (such as an earn out) can allow for the seller to participate in the optimistic scenario and help bridge the gap on accepting a lower than desired purchase price. Second, buyers (especially private equity) do not have the expertise and institutional knowledge to effectively run the target business following purchase. Therefore, non cash components (earn outs retained common stock) are a powerful way to align incentives and ensure the sellers have a vested interest in the continued success of the business and smooth transition. Third, management options create the ability to incentivize and attract new talent to the business, as Roger s departure will likely create a critical vacancy to fill. Finally, non cash components (such as a seller note) can also help raise the purchase price as financing the acquisition of a small business can often times be challenging (especially for the similar sized strategic buyer in Offer 2). Since perhaps around the tenth or eleventh century (the exact date is unknown), foot binding was a very common practice in China to modify the shape of women s feet. The process began at a young age; the mothers and aunts would apply tight binding to the feet of their young girls. This practice became very popular for all social classes during the Song Dynasty. This was a symbol of elegance and beauty in Chinese culture. However, this was not only a symbol of elegance and beauty. During this time when arranged marriages were very common, the size of girls feet determined how desirable of a bride they would be. For example, the most desirable foot size for a bride would be three inches, which was often known as a golden lotus . A four inch silver lotus was respected. Henry David Thoreau Analysis Henry David Thoreau, a nineteenth century writer, philosopher, and abolitionist, establishes himself as an outsider, a passionate rebel against the status quo, in a passage from Walden. He writes to explain why he went into the woods to live and left behind what most people would consider civilization. Especially for an audience of contemporaries in the 1850s, before the Civil War, his choice to live in the woods would have been outrageous even revolutionary. Even today, his choice to live in a small cabin in the woods would be considered counter to the status quo, so the modern audience is also intrigued by his explanation. His language and method of presenting his ideas create an argument between civilization and real life, and it is clear that he values real life in the woods over what most people would consider civilization. He pits civilization against life throughout, though he hides the reference to civilization behind a contrast to life in the words not life, and he suggests that living in civilization would be a resignation. He counters this with many references to life (nouns) and live and living (verbs), such as to live deliberately, facts of life, I had not lived, wish to live, not life, living is so dear, live deep, marrow of life, to live so sturdily. When reading a novel as hefty as Crime and Punishment it is important to pick apart some of the many subtleties in order to gain more insight to both the novel as a whole and the psyche of Raskolnikov. In an attempt to better understand Raskolnikov s disorientation between his conscious and subconscious states, it is helpful to break down and analyze Raskolnikov s third dream and some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the reader gets a lot of insight into Raskolnikov s thoughts through the way Dostoevsky sets up the narrative of the novel, we never imagine what it s like to actively think like Raskolnikov. Yet, still, a question remains. Why would Dostoevsky fully submerge the reader into the mind of a murderer? Dostoevsky is attempting to have the reader connect to Raskolnikov. This instance of Raskolnikov s haziness between the conscious and the subconscious is similar to having an incredibly realistic dream; you wake up feeling as though what you dreamt about actually happened to you. This act of vivid dreaming can sometimes be caused by any subconscious emotions felt leading up to the moment you fall asleep. In Raskolnikov s case, whether or not he feels any sort of genuine guilt for murdering Alyona is fairly ambiguous, but it is obvious that he is paranoid about the idea of being caught. For example, shortly before Raskolnikov s run in with the tradesman, he and Razumikhin go speak with Porfiry and Zamyotov. Throughout their meeting, Raskolnikov seems to be on edge. He even states, I m feverish again!...Did Porfiry wink at me just now, or not? Must be nonsense; why would he wink? Do they want to irritate my nerves, or are they taunting me? Either it s all a mirage, or they know!...They must have been talking about me before we came! (254 5). Raskolnikov, just like his reactions to his first two dreams ... • 41. Cultural Influence Of Child-Rearing Practices In Early... Human Developement 1 Culture and society have profound influences on a child s growth and development and are important considerations for early childhood teachers if they wish to better understand children and provide higher quality early childhood education and services to children and their families, (Te Whaariki, Ministry of Education, 1996). One particular example of the effect that culture and society can have on the growth and development of a child is child rearing practices. Different cultural groups and societies have diverse styles of child rearing practices which are uniquely influenced by a range of values, beliefs and dominate assumptions (Berk, 2003). A significant factor in view of child rearing practices is the role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus there is a clear link between child rearing practices, child interactions and children developing a wide range of cognitive skills. Child rearing practices which include a lot of child involvement encourage a child s exploration, extend cognitive development and help to extend new skills (Zhou, Huang, Wang, Wang, Zhao, Yang and Yang, 2006). Many features of child rearing practices are not only dependent on the education of the caregivers, but also how the caregivers themselves have been raised. If caregivers were raised with an awareness of the value of nutritious meals they will be more likely to provided good nutrition to their children and help children reach optimal levels of physical growth (Berk, 2003) If caregivers value physical activity themselves, or participated in it regularly as a child, they will be more likely to provide an environment where a child can engage physically, such as a bike to ride, or sports equipment. This is all dependent 4 however, on such factors as the health of the parents and/or the level of household income which may be different from that experienced by the caregiver as a child. Even the most physically active caregivers may not be able to support the child to engage in sporting activities which require specific gear, fees, or costly trips to the local pools. If however child rearing practices encourage children even to engage in simple outside play, such as running, or climbing a tree a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Is Hannibal Lecter s Integrity In The Film Silence Of The... The film Silence of the Lambs risks its integrity by banking heavily on the interactions between the two main actors to keep the viewer engaged;Though a lot is wagered in this move, much is gleaned as Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster both proved their worth bringing in countless awards for their performances. The film closely follows Clarice Starling, a budding FBI agent in training, as she follows the case of serial killer, Buffalo Bill. As opposed to most horror movies, there is not one sole villain; Hannibal Lecter is a sort of grey area character due to the fact that he is a psychotic, cannibalistic killer, but he in fact actually assists in the apprehension of Buffalo Bill. Though she is supposed to be working as part of a team, throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be seen by just glancing at the dvd case, as the Death s head Hawkmoth is actually constructed with 7 bodies; this makes quite a lot of sense since they could easily represent the 7 victims in this film. The moth, in its simplest interpretation, symbolizes change. This is so blatantly obvious that Lecter literally says The significance of the moth is change . That which is referred to with the theme of change is much less obvious however, as it could represent a number of the characters. I believe it most closely is to exemplify Clarice s journey from a woman trying to become recognized in the law enforcement world, to an FBI agent who, by her self, conquers her demons by silencing her lambs, by taking down serial killer, Buffalo Bill. Interesting that I would mention Lambs right? It s no coincidence. Lambs are beautiful, innocent and helpless, needing a caretaker for nurturing, impotent against the slaughterer. Clarice tried to intervene on their behalf, and failed. Because of this, she has always heard lambs screaming in the back of her mind. Enter this film, and Starling herself becomes the lamb, constantly the prey of men such as Lecter and Bill who seem just to be waiting to jump at the chance to slaughter her (one butchers his victims, while the other eats them). Ironically, it is Lecter, who we think of as the slaughterer, that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Travels of a T-Shirt Book Report Essay Question 1: Write a summary of this book Often, when we think of a t shirt, not much consideration goes past throwing it on and walking out the door. We discover in The Travels of a T Shirt in the Global Economy, author Pietra Rivoli conveys the story of a t shirt she purchased in Florida for just $5.99. Beginning with core element of the t shirt, she describes the cotton boom in the United States and why we have reigned supreme as the leading cotton producer. She even meets with a Texan farmer who warms your heart from the very beginning of the chapter. Next, the cotton goes on to textile mills and factories, and Rivoli explains the history of the textile industry. With this lesson, she demonstrates how the textile industry boom was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her writing style takes into consideration those with very little economic awareness and fluidly phrases things into layman s terms. She is able to expand on the most complex ideas, such as quotas and tariffs in the textile industry, and still paint a complete picture in the mind of the reader. The relevance of this book can be measured by its ability to speak to the everyday individual, who may or may not know anything about economics, and plant the seed toward global economic education. It provides a keen social awareness to people who may or may not ordinarily care about international economics and can have an eye opening effect toward what really happens in the textile industry. Rivoli also raises some substantial points about free trade and protectionism. After the facts are presented, she identifies that most of these alleged free markets aren t actually free at all. She explains that quotas, political relationships, and labor issues make these markets restricted from being completely free. She writes a story of the wealth enhancing possibilities of globalization in some settings but a can t win trap in others, a trap where power imbalances and poorly functioning politics and markets seem to doom the economic future. Question 3: Is the author arguing for free trade or protectionism? Explain. Rivoli is not making an argument for either side of protectionism or free trade. Of course, as an avid economist, Rivoli advocates free trade, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
