Pros And Disadvantages Of Delusion
Delusions
Variable Disadvantage
Delusions are beliefs that have no basis in reality. The character refuses to abandon such beliefs
even in the face of evidence to the contrary or at best comes up with rationalizations to explain
away any contradictions.
Prejudice: The belief that a group of people has certain characteristics. While everyone has some
prejudices in some way or another, a delusional person staunchly holds to these beliefs. In some
cases, the person refuses to trust or befriend any member of such a group, regardless of the merits
of the individual person. Such a Delusion is worth 1 to 3 points, depending on how intense the belief
is, how large a group it applies to, and how it dominates the character s life. At the 1 point level, the
character could be an Archie Bunker type bigot; at 3 points, he would be a rabid Human/Faunus
supremacist.
Delusions of Grandeur: This person thinks they are somebody far greater and more powerful
than they really are. The most common type has an exaggerated sense of overconfidence: I am a
genius, but nobody understands me which is why the best job I ve held is the cashier at a 7 11 (1
point); I am the Messiah; prepare for the Second Coming! (3 points).
Phobia: This Disadvantage is worth 1 to 3 points depending on the severity. 1 point represents a
mild discomfort while 3 points represent an intense fear, maybe even to the point of anxiety.
Emotional Problems
Variable Disadvantage
Those with Emotional Problems react in unreasonable ways to some situations. The reaction can be
anger, sadness or anguish, typically more extreme than normal. These emotional problems can be
triggered by distressful but relatively ordinary events in normal life; they prompt a very strong
reaction.
Fear of Rejection: This person is afraid of rejection. People with this problem may be afraid to
make friends or approach people they are attracted to. If their fears come true they will harbor a
great deal of resentment. This is a 1 point Disadvantage.
Depression: This character s emotional problems make the very act of living seem like a hard
chore. Common symptoms of Depression include sleep problems, severe procrastination, and a lack
of interest in anything. A character with

Women And Gender During 20th Century America

Title:
Institution:
Women and gender In 20th Century America
Abstract
Paid work for women moved from principally customary female situated employments to all the
more non conventional and already male arranged vocations. Ladies support in the workforce
prompted them to start careers in the field dominated by male in the 20th century. Career yearnings
were affected by elements, such as sexual orientation, financial status, race, occupation and
instruction level, and parental desires. This paper exhibits how women developed, changed and the
challenges they faced in the 20th century in America in the workforce and the advancement of
ladies careers, improvement and profession goals during the 20th century in United States. Also,
gender issues affecting women will be discussed in details during this period and how women
played their role in fighting for their rights.
Thesis Statement
Ladies legislative issues in the 20th Century came to past self characterized women s activists, as
conventional ladies associations handled issues of important to ladies regular lives. An examination
of the positions and moves on welfare change made the researchers and feminist through Voters and
the National Organization for Women in the middle of 1970s difficulties the suspicion that all white
collar class women disregarded the issues of poor ladies and highlights a discriminating defining
moment in American progressivism. The League s activism uncovers the profundity and

Essay on A Feminist Reading of John Updike s A P
A Feminist Reading of A P
Gone are the days that humans could live impulsively, only taking physical pain and pleasure into
account when making decisions. Or so one would like to believe. In a display of sheer innocence
and ignorance, Sammy, a grocery clerk at the A P, managed to revert back to the original behavior
patterns of his ape like ancestors. One cannot possibly predict the future of Sammy, given his own
illogical and irrational behavior. But one can, through a careful examination of Sammy s life,
determine that Sammy is just a naive, young man whose impulsive acts, partly as a consequence of
his upbringing, compel him to participate in a cause not worth fighting for, instead of using his
talents for more constructive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had only one goal: do everything in his power to impress the girls, making sure they would not
escape the hallowed A P without having awe filled reverence for the grocery clerk named Sammy.
However, from the beginning, Sammy s idealistic dreams of renown had a sour taste to them.
Sammy began his grocery clerk glory days as a victim of his own parents over watchfulness. His
parents had known Lengel, the store manager, for years, and took it upon themselves to get
Sammy a job. Perhaps his parents believed that doing Sammy s dirty work would somehow
shelter Sammy from the so called real world, or perhaps they merely wanted the best for their
son, and getting him a job was their way of giving Sammy what they felt he was due. Whatever
his parents motives were, the end result was somewhat of a loss of Sammy s independence. Given
the circumstances surrounding the rest of the story, it is not unreasonable to assume that Sammy
had felt somewhat dependent upon his parents and did not like that dependence at all. But he had
never faced the right circumstance that may have potentially given him a reason, or an excuse, to
break his ties with his parents and become truly independent. Lengel points out, Sammy, you don t
want to do this to your Mom and Dad . . . You ll feel this for the rest of your life (Updike411).
Despite this warning, Sammy is more than willing to break the unwritten covenant he has with his
parents and attempts

Story Of Elijah s God
Elijah s God was Elisha s God! God utilized Elisha as His prophet for about fifty years.
Elisha died but his influence remained in a number of ways. God s power was shown when a
dead man s body was tossed into the grave of Elisha and came in contact with Elisha s bones. The
dead man was revived and jumped to his feet. The miracle showed Israel once more that if they
would have not rejected the words Elisha spoke on behalf of God, God would have been extremely
gracious and merciful to His people.
Elijah was a very hated man in the Ahab family. He had great courage and boldness to always be
willing to be the messenger of horrendous news to Ahab s family. For many years, Ahab and
Jezebel hunted for Elijah to destroy him. That hatred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the encounters we read about Elisha dealt with needs people had. This showed God s
powerful caring nature to the people. People came in contact with the all powerful God through the
miracles performed and the person of Elisha.
Athaliah was Queen of Judah from 842 836 BC. She was the daughter of King Ahab and Queen
Jezebel of the northern kingdom of Israel. She also was the wife of King Jehoram of Judah, and the
mother of King Ahaziah.
Following Ahaziah s death at the hands of Jehu, Athaliah seized power and killed all members of
the royal family who were possible rivals for the throne, except for Joash, the infant son of Ahaziah,
who had been rescued by his Aunt Jehosheba.
When Joash was seven years old, Jehoiada the priest conspired to have the young boy crowned in
the Temple as king. When Queen Athaliah heard the commotion, she rushed to the Temple to see
what was going on, and found the new king surrounded by army officers and people from all over
the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets.
Athaliah ripped her clothes in distress and yelled Treason! Treason! Jehoida the priest told the
army officers to take her out of the Temple and to kill her. She was killed at the Palace stables.
Then, Jehoiada and others destroyed a pagan temple of Baal and destroyed pagan

Red Imported Fire Ants
How to identify ants,
In the United States, imported fire ants currently inhabit all or parts of Alabama, Arkansas,
California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina,
Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. They are discovered
sporadically in Maryland. The red imported fire ant has also been accidentally introduced to other
countries. Imported fire ants will likely continue to spread throughout much of the southern portion
of the U.S, and other parts of the world where climate conditions are suitable.
Accurate identification of fire ants can be especially important in the southwestern states, where
native fire ant species are common and imported fire ants are rare. Although ... Show more content

Carpenter ants are usually larger than most other house infesting ants. They vary in color from a
dull black or reddish yellow color to a combination of black and dull red or reddish orange.
Why do fire ants bite
Fire ant is the common name for several species of ants in the genus solenopsis. They are,
however, only a minority in the genus, which includes over 200 species of Solenopsis worldwide.
Solenopsis are stinging ants and most of their common names reflect this, for example, ginger ants
and tropical ants. Many species also are called red ants because of their light brown color, though
species of ants in many other genera are similarly named for similar reasons. Examples include
Myrmica rubra and Pogonomyrmex barbatus.
None of these names applies in all countries nor to all species of Solenopsis, only to Solenopsis
species; for example the colloquial names for several species of weaver ants in the genus
Oecophylla in Southeast Asia include fire ants because of their red color and painful sting he two
genera, however, are not closely related. Also, Wasmannia auropunctata is commonly called the

Disney World Essay
My first trip to Disney World, now that, that was a memorable trip. That trip was one of the
most magical and happiest memories of my life. It was back in 2008, I had just turned 6 years
old a few months before we left to go there. It was summertime, and the weather was perfect. I
remember being so bored on the way there because I am an only child so I didn t have anyone to
entertain me besides myself. My mom s side of the familywent on this trip with us, and at the time
I was the only grandkid, and the only kid at all. So once we finally were almost there I remember
passing the big Welcome to Disney World sign and being so excited I peed my pants my mom
was pretty mad, but my dad thought it was kinda funny so I didn t get in too much trouble.
Anyways, so we checked in and got our room and our super cool disney cups and were all set. It
was night time by the time we got there that day so we didn t really get to do much that day. So
the next day we all got up and got ready for Hollywood Studios which is the part where all the
disney movies are turned into games and rides. That day was super fun, most likely because
growing up I didn t really watch anything besides disney movies or shows. So as the day went on
I started getting sleepy but I was pushing through the sleepiness because I mean come on, I was
at Disney World! This place was awesome! So we ride a few more rides and then my parents decide
it s time to head back to our room and eat some dinner. The next day

Role Of A Human Resources Department Essay
Role and Function of a Human Resources Department In today s work environment, organizations
are continually seeking an advantage over the competition. One resource to assist with this
ambition is to utilize the human resources (HR) department as a strategic partner in the micro and
macro planning of the organization. This paper will define the role and function while
distinguishing the duties and responsibilities of an effective HR department. Background Ellard
Williams, Incorporated (EWI) is a manufacturing firm employing nearly 11,300 workers (Colorado
State University Global Campus, n.d.). At this time, the firm is experiencing deficiencies in the HR
department, which is leading to ineffective processes and a drop in profits throughout the
organization. A strategic analysis revealed a slump in growth, high turnover rate, underpaid staff,
and a loss in profits if all activities remain the same (n.d.). As a result of the unsuccessful HR
department, employee motivation, performance, and productivity are suffering that is causing
production delays and high defect rates (n.d.). Role and Function The HR professional s function is
more than shuffling through applications, inputting data, and providing reports. Among HR roles,
many authors argue that the strategic role is a pivotal one for HR professionals in today s
organization (Mitchell et al, 2013, p. 900). What this means for HR professionals is they should
participate in developmental and organizational

Disadvantages Of Municipal Fragmentation
Across the globe, governments struggle to sufficiently represent their citizens. The breaking down
of government responsibilities varies between countries, but one aspect that no country can agree
on is what constitutes a municipality and how much responsibility a municipality should have.
Should a cityregion be split into competing small municipalities, or should there be one municipal
governmentfor the entire region? Across Europe following World War II fragmentation due to land
reform was favoured (Jurgenson, 2016, p. 34) whereas now in present day, consolidation seems to
be more desirable by governments seeking to be more cost efficient (Carmichael Midwinter, 1999,
p. 163). As a means to compromise, city regions should be governed by a system that incorporates
both aspects of fragmentation and consolidation. Through the analysis of economic effects,
government issues, and cultural factors I will explore the benefits of municipal fragmentation and
consolidation. A central occupation of a municipalityis the distribution of funds to various services.
Municipalities can face several difficulties in regard to their economy because of their lack of
power and responsibilities. Fragmentation could aid municipalities according to Grassmueck and
Shields (2009) in their study Does government fragmentation enhance or hinder metropolitan
economic growth? that suggests that regions with relatively fragmented governments had stronger

October 21st, 2012
Introduction
Purpose: The purpose of this Physics Lab is to investigate what factors determine the amount of
flexion of the cantilever. Hence, the objective is to establish a relationship between the length of a
cantilever, which may give some insight into the physics of cantilevers.
Hypothesis: If one increases the length of a cantilever, one would expect there to be an increase in
deflection/flexion of the cantilever. Similarly, if one increases the massof the load, one would
expect there to be an increase in the deflexion/flexion of the cantilever. In addition, I predict that
proportionality will also occur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* Dependent Variable: The deflection/flexion of the cantilever in metres. This will be measured
indirectly by measuring the initial height of the bottom of the cantilever with no mass added (which
is equal to the height of the table) and the new height of the bottom of the cantilever after each
trial, which will be measured with mass added. Hence, the difference between these heights is
equal to the deflection/flexion of the cantilever. The material and other physical properties of the
cantilever will be controlled by using the same yardstick as a cantilever for each trial.
Data Collection and Processing
My experiment is divided into two parts; experiment A (involving the relationship between flexion
and the mass of the load) and experiment B (involving the relationship between the flexion and the
length of the cantilever).
Below are two tables in which I have recorded the data which I obtained during the experiment. The
first table reflects the Relationship between the deflection/flexion of the cantilever and the mass of
the load and the second table reflects the relationship between the flexion of the cantilever and the
length of the cantilever.

Hard Times Sowing Essay
A child with no imagination is like an Earth without wildlife. Cold, boring, and desolate. Dickens
cleverly names the three sub books in Hard Times Sowing, Reaping, and Garnering. As Galatians
6:7 reads, Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in
return. Dickens alludes to the bible and general farming terms in the titles of the three books to
condemn the educationsystem of the 19th Century Victorian era and furthermore foreshadow the
plot of the books. The first of the three books, Sowing , lays the foundation for the whole story by
introducing us to Thomas Gradgrind and his school. The opening lines to the whole story read

Selcting an Approach for a Qualitative Research Plan Essay
Selecting an Approach for a Qualitative Research Plan
Creswell (2013) contends that we need to identify our approach to qualitative inquiry in order to
present it as a sophisticated study, to offer it as a specific type so that reviewers can properly
assess it, and...to offer some way of organizing ideas that can be grounded in the scholarly literature
of qualitative research (p. 69). Although I believe all three arguments cited by the author are
important, this week s readings and discussion emphasized the third reason in particular. Indeed,
reviewing the five approaches provided me with ideas regarding how to investigate and explore the
topic. Although I am still struggling with some of the details and aspects, a rough framework is ...

Through interviews and extensive data analysis the phenomenological study will aim to
summarize what the individuals have experienced and how they have experienced it to arrive at
the essence of the issue under investigation (Moustakas, 1994 as cited by Creswell, 2013, p. 79).
Given the issue, transcendental phenomenology appears to be a desirable approach to gain a better
understanding of the issue due to bracketing and its aim at perceiving a phenomenon new, fresh,
and for the first time (Creswell, 2013, p. 80).
Conducting a case study appears equally appropriate. Since case studies consist of qualitative
approaches in which the investigator explores a real life, contemporary bounded system or
multiple systems over time, through detailed, in depth data collection involving multiple sources
of information, and reports a case description and case themes one could emphasize the changes in
democratic participation as well as the motivators (Creswell, 2013, p. 97). Furthermore, case
studies provide a wide array of approaches, including both quantitative and qualitative elements as
well as explanatory, exploratory, and descriptive directions that could be used to investigate the
proposed question (Creswell, 2013). Case selection would be purposeful, probably focusing on one
to five NGOs engaging with the government to influence public policy and the people involved
with the same.

East Timor Research Paper
The Future of East Timor East Timor is one of the world s beautiful and vast tropical
wildernesses. A lot of the country s economic activity lies on the premises of the country s
landscape. The economic outlook of the country is centered on its history and potential for
development. There are several emerging industries and future sources of income present in East
Timor that are based on the country s environmental strengths. Tourism is somewhat popular in
East Timor. Travel sites and companies have created new advertising for the Timorese hotels and
results. The government has also improved infrastructure, airports, as well as preserved areas of
the natural landscape. The natural beauty of the island makes it attractive to exotic travelers. East
Timor as gone to great lengths to establish their government, however the people of East Timor

No Model For Girls By Fiona Bawdon
The Fight to Look Flawless
Beauty standards in America are always changing and continuously on the rise due to society s
constant obsession with the perfect body image. This image is built upon the things we see in
movies, television shows, and magazines, which causes girls to feel the need to look flawless
and set far fetched goals for their physical appearance. Today s era marks tall, skinny and
flawless faces as beautiful, and if girls don t have any of these attributes, they truly believe that
they aren t as beautiful and will do whatever it takes in order to obtain that beauty. In today s ever
so demanding society, social media, flawless models, and pressure from not only peers but from
family as well, have all implemented a negative impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As defined by Merriam Webster, the definition of Photoshop is as follows: to alter (a digital
image) with Photoshop software or other image editing software especially in a way that distorts
reality (as for deliberately deceptive purposes) . Even the definition states that Photoshop distorts
reality, yet girls still think that models have the ideal body image. The real reality is that models set
an unattainable and unrealistic way for girls to look like. In No Model For Girls by Fiona
Bawdon, the author explores how models and Photoshop can negatively affect adolescent girls
body image. The author states that, magazine images are routinely airbrushed: thighs slimmed,
wrinkles smoothed and blemishes removed (29). How are adolescent girls not supposed to feel
self conscious and compare themselves to models when, in with a touch of Photoshop, models
can look skinnier, have a flawless face, and appear more beautiful? Another startling statistic that
was in the same study conducted by Marium Javaid and Iftikhar Ahmad, was that actresses and
models had 10 15% less body fat whereas the average body fat for healthy women is 22 26%
(30). This displays just how extremely thin and unrealistic these models are. The body fat for a
healthy woman is 22 26%, yet girls still see themselves as fat and continue to try and lose weight.
This trend is growing more popular in today s society, however, girls need to understand the
importance of not comparing their own bodies to other people. It is an unnecessary and potentially
harmful comparison to

Defects Of Nuclear Weapons
Isolde Fang Current issue Benefits and defects of nuclear weapons The use of nuclear weapons
is a heated topic today, catching more attention from both the public and governments than
before. While many countries favor nuclear weapons for safety and international reasons,
nuclear weapons do have defects in moral, environmental, and economic aspects. For counties
that favor nuclear weapons, they favor them because of the benefits brought by them in
guaranteeing national safety and boosting international status. Nuclear weapons can protect a
country physically, like a physical protection of national territory, just as Sico van der Meer
writes in his article States Motivations to Acquire or Forgo Nuclear Weapons that nuclear
weapons are considered to be the ultimate tool for survival. (2016) This citation shows that
nuclear weapons are so powerful that they can be used as the ultimate tool of survival. Due to
their power, they can protect a country s territory from external aggression by deterring other
countries. Japan is a good example of this kind of country. There are many possible reactions
Japan can made after the threat from North Korea of nuclear attack of U.S. bases in Japan. Some
assert that protecting Japan itself by developing nuclear weapons is a good way (Corr, 2017). By
developing nuclear weapons, Japan can deter North Korea from actual nuclear attack and protect
itself from warfare. Free of intrusion and warfare is what always pursued by all

The Father Of Pan, The Greek God Of Nature
Pan is the Greek god of Nature. He was born father Hermes and his mother, who is one of
Dryops daughters. When Pan was born and his mother and nurse saw that he had horns ,ears, tail,
and legs of a goat they both ran away to escape Pan s monstrous appearance. Then Hermes saw his

After that Pan grow up and went to the forest in Arcadia there he had worshiper.
Pan s main domain was nature, but he mostly stay in Arcadia. Also most of his follower lived
there. Arcadia was a group of mountain dwelling people separated from other Greeks. Also it is
said that if the hunter were disappointed with the chase they would scourge the statue of Pan.
Being a rustic god Pan was never worshiped in temples or any built building. He was worshiped
in Natural sitting like cave or grottos; these are often called the caves of Pan. It is said when Pan
is lonely he lets out a whale that send fear though any mortal that hears it, this is part of the reason
why panic is dedicated to pan. There is another thing with pan he is associated with fertility and
spring, but he is also associated with a mother goddess either Rhea or Cybele.
Unlike some other gods Pan was ugly. Also he lived in the mortal world. He hunted for his food in
the mountain and he pursued quite a wild life himself, but he also spent his time playing with the
woodland nymphs he also talked to them too. He also had another side to him. This

The Best Day Of My Life
If you want to live a happy life tie it to a goal, not to people or things. I think to myself as my dad

Today is the day, my greatest dream and goal finally comes true. The day that dad finally lets me

Employees should be properly trained to understand and follow the company s security policies.
According to Romney, training is especially needed to educate employees about social
engineering attacks, which use deception to obtain unauthorized access to information resources
(pp.261). Proper training of employees could have prevented the breach as well. Assuming that
an outsider was the thief, I believe it would have been obvious that he/she was not wearing an

access controls are those that refrain entry into an area that may contain sensitive information.
According to the text, this control is essential to achieve any degree of information security .
There are a wide range of potential threats that an intruder that is left unsupervised can cause an

Two Cradle Theory In the Two Cradle Theory written by Dr. Cheikh Anta Diop, he discusses the
differences between two areas in the world which was described as African and European people
and how they were created. It explains how mankind originated and how over time evolution
changed the two. The theory was broken down into two parts of the world, Southern and Northern
Cradle. The southern cradle is located in Africa and Northern in Europe. This theory was explained
how the human species originated in Africa in the area of Kenya and Ethiopia and over time, man
left Africa over 40 thousand years ago and ended up in Europe. With evolution over 20 thousands
years, man makeup changed to accommodate the harsh living environment during that time of
glaciation. The climate was very cold and man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

places and that is what explained theirs differences. Their proof that could not support this theory

explains how their roles as popular cultures affected American fashion. As a result, such
widespread interest into the genre of music led to the appropriation of rap style: blue jeans, T shirts

Sacred Space In Mircea Eliade s The Sacred And The Profane
The first chapter of Mircea Eliade s book The Sacred and The Profane educates the reader on the
general idea of what a sacred space is, how it affects religious and secular man, and how it came
to be. He describes sacred space in the perspective of a religious man and the difference between it
and profane space. Sacred space is commonly known to appear through the use of hierophany and
theophany; however, Eliade presents several other ways they may come about.
Throughout the text, it is evident that the basis of a sacred space is that there is a break within the
homogenous space that makes a connection between the earth and the heavens; this connection can
be referred to as axis mundi. Eliade portrays the idea that those who follow religion

The Impact Of The Roaring Twenties
F. Scott Fitzgerald once stated, The parties were bigger, the pace was faster, the shows were
broader, the buildings were higher, the morals were looser, and the liquor was cheaper. The time
after the war known as the Roaring Twenties harbored change for not only the economy but for the
people also. Credit materialized, becoming available for citizens to use on new products such as the
vacuum cleaner and the materializes, washing machine which allotted more time for the people to
have to themselves. The 1920s, a time of celebration and prosperity, eventually ended as a result
of a sudden economic crash, because of the effects from the times. During the World War I (1914
1918), women accepted the jobs that men had been working before they went on to fight for the
U.S. Many women worked in factories, with heavy machinery, on farms, or even in offices as
clerks. After the war, many women kept their jobs as clerks and secretaries. They obtained the
right to vote in 1920 with the 19th amendment, which set loose the ideas of even more
independence and a need to change the ideals of women. Post war prosperity gave way to credit
being opened for the people to use. Research showed, Low prices and generous credit made cars
affordable luxuries at the beginning of the decade; by the end, they were practically necessities (
The Roaring Twenties). Citizens were now allowed to buy goods they previously could not
purchase with regular pay from low income jobs. Based on some

Fighting Charges of Assimilation in Hansberry s A Raisin...
Fighting Charges of Assimilation in Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun and The Cosby Show
The critical reception of The Cosby Show, an enormously popular television sitcom in the 1980 s,
roughly paralleled that of A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry s highly acclaimed play of the
1950 s. Both the television series and the play helped change the way Blacks are portrayed in the
entertainment media. But despite being initially greeted with critical praise, both subsequently fell
under heavy scrutiny by many critics for being too assimilationist. However, in both cases, the
charges of assimilation may perhaps be too harsh. A Raisinin the Sun, a drama of a middle class

He longs for the socioeconomic advantages of the affluent people and assimilates to their ideas. As
Darwin Turner explains, Walter typifies the upward moving American male. He honors ruthless
capitalism (4). However, all of this is not to say that Hansberry s play condones or endorses this
kind of attitude or ideal. Nor is it accurate to assume that the play is against such assimilationist
goals. Instead, A Raisin in the Sun remains decidedly and deliberately ambiguous in any sort of
moral judgment.
The 1950 s was a decade in which black literature emphasized the issue of integration. Black
writers also consciously stressed the similarities between Blacks and Whites. Hansberry believed
that blacks and Whites had similar character traits and values, as A Raisin in the Sun
demonstrates. However, Hansberry assumed a consciously ambivalent stance in regard to social
integration (Turner, 4). The Youngers did not want to move into a white community merely out
of a desire to live with whites. They moved out of a desire for freedom and opportunity rather
than for social integration. But this motivation should not be construed as a desire to assimilate.
Instead, it is a desire to achieve an ideal shared by all Americans. In this regard, A Raisin in the
Sun is not a mere proponent of black assimilation the play deals realistically

Beauty In Bluest Eye By Pecola Breedlove
Beauty is in the Eye of the (White) Beholder
While working as a tutor for African refugee children recently, I helped an 11 year old girl create
an icon of herself online. At first, I thought it was a harmless activity until I saw she created the
icon of herself to have blue eyes, blond hair, and a great big white smile. I shifted uncomfortably,
asked her why she chose to portray herself with blue eyes. She gave me a puzzled look and
replied, they re the prettiest as if it was the most obvious answer in the world. I immediately was
taken aback that she idealized herself with these white features; a little girl who was so influenced
by the mainstream media of images from Frozen, Disney Channel, and Pixar. Although the

Beauty is equated with happiness and success by Pecola who feels ugly and ashamed of her own
brown hair and brown skin; a contrast from mainstream media idolized beauty. She feels all her
troubles would be solved if she only had pretty blue eyes. However, this brings to question: who
decided that to be white, blond and blue eyed was deemed to be the most beautiful? Racist
undertones of White supremacy are prevalent in Morrison s story as these ideals of beauty are
challenged. The toxicity of this ideal of beauty is especially poignant in Bluest Eye where
Pecola s naivetГ© is taken advantage of in her desperate desire to be happy, cared for, and
beautiful. Her final breaking point, believing she was given blue eyes by a religious man who
claimed to fulfill dreams, is a shocking and disturbing consequence to Morrison s commentary
about racial shame of beauty. Pecola goes mad, still unsatisfied that she has the bluest eyes , and
quickly loses touch with reality after her devastating traumas and rejections. Society has failed
Pecola when she was most in need of help. Pecola s silence about her madness reflects a wider
issue of the inarticulation of internalized racial hatred. The characterizations of these double
standards for beauty are summed up by Morrison in Bluest Eye. The result is a complex multi
level set of identity issues. It is a spiraling downward effect away from happiness when

Bullying On Bullying
The concept of bullying at work refers to all situations where one or more persons feel subjected
to negative behavior from others in the workplace over a period of time and in a situation where
they for different reasons are unable to defend themselves against these actions (Einasern, 2005).
The young lady was been bullied and sexually harrased by her top exececutive boss, he had no
right to make her feel that way to the point of ebven locking herself up just to avoid his lewd
advances. Work rights are their to protect employes from such behvaiours from the boss, however I
further read that in Russia Sexual harassmentis a norm in the work place because their culture has
finally normalised it which can be clearly seen from the way the judge ruled on this case sexual
harassment that the twenty year girl brought to his courtroom. In Russia, 40 percent of female
professionals have had sex with their boss at least once, according to the story and eighty per
cent of those who participated in the survey said they did not believe it possible to win
promotion without engaging in sexual relations with their male superiors (Einasern, 2005).
Such kind of notions makes it okay for the perpetrators to think that its normal to sexually
harassed women at work and objectify it. I have been a similar situation where the top boss of
our department s husband who works for the same company started sending me inappropriate
emails; I went to my immediate boss and reported the emails. My immediate boss was afraid to
deal with the situation because the perpetrators wife was her boss and friend. This left with no
choice but to take to management. Management cautioned the perpetrator and he stopped but his
wife started giving me a cold shoulder and started treating me differently after this, as if I was
the one in the wrong. We have to bear in mind she was my boss as well, so you can imagine how
uncomfortable the situation was at work. I did not care about her reaction because her husband is
pig who caused two other young ladies before me to resign because of his sick behaviour. I still
wonder why the company has not fired him knowing that he has done this before. Thankfully, I left
the company a after that to start work at new

Cinematic Techniques In Rear Window
Rear Window One of the the most important elements of Rear Window, and a very clever tactic
used by Hitchcock in Rear Window is realism. Ever Since I watch Alfred Hitchcock Rear
Window, there is one thing that I wanted to talk about, the film sense of realism, there is couple
element that make this whole film feel so real. Throughout the film, the cinematographer uses
shots of panning and zooming to make it ever more realistic and makes it seem like the audience
are viewing this whole film from the eyes of the main character L.B. Jeff. The perspective was
never change, it is walys constantly limited, as L.B. is in his wheelchair, there are many part of
the film, due to the viewing is being limited, we are asked to draw our own conclusion, and it
also makes us more involved, and feels like we are somehow really in the movie. However, with
the help of the binocular and his camera lenses, both L.B. and the spectator could get a better look
at something. But even through the binocular and camera lenses, there is still a good use of limited

Not only does the lighting tells us the tone of the film, but it also provides a psychoanalytic
aspect of the film, through lighting we are told when to be scared , when to be fearful, and
when to be anxious. It also uses a lot of shadow effect to help the audience to see what is part is
visible either from L.B. apartment looking into his neighbor s apartment, or the way around.
Nearly at the final scene, when L.B. is spying at Mr. Thorwald, he hurry up turn his light off to

want anyone to see us. In final scene when Thorwald tries to kill L.B., L.B. uses camera flash to

Historically, dance has been going on forever with male involvement. Research shows that
during the renaissance times males participating in dance was, nothing but normal. They almost
outshined the females in the system of dance as a whole. But, at a specific time in history the
gender roles of dance changed. It was now up to women to lead the system of dance, bringing
men down to the bottom of the dance chain. Slowly as this change occurred in the system of
dance it became out of place for males to pursue a career in dance and more normal for males to
participate only in sports. Research states Dance study has always been seen as an appropriate

Cultural And Historical Significance Of The Film 12 Years...
The Cultural and Historical Significance of the Film 12 Years A Slave The cultural and
historical significance of the film has changed and reshaped the views and cultures of African
Americans with the roles that they have as a race in society as a result of the racial formation
and performance portrayed in the film. The movie presents a verifiable and precise account of
the collective experience of slaves in the United States of America in the late 18th century. The
basic facts of the movie from the start to the finish concern events about the places, the time, and
the practices that took place during the slave era in detail. The movie is inspired by a book
written by David Wilson about the narrative events of Solomon Northup as a slave. Both the
book and the movie share the same title. In the book, he speaks with a lot of authority on all
subjects especially enslavement of black Americans and in the process, he names popular
leaders as well as several other landmarks without fear of contradiction because we understand
that public records have enough knowledge to defend his position. In the movie, the slave trader
is accused of keeping slaves as captive in a slave pen in Washington DC. Not only is the name of
the slave and the slaver mentioned, but also their accomplices in addition to the location where the
slave pen is located, the structure of the slave pen, an all details that allow one to imagine the

Analysis Of Our Secret By Susan Griffin
A particular question that is seldom pondered over and yet is capable of carrying so many
doubts within it: who are we? Who are we as a society who can do the things we do? Who are we
who can suffer from them? Award winning poet and essayist Susan Griffin confronts these distinct
questions in her work titled, Our Secret . Griffin believes that a basic understanding of the things
that play a part in the growth of an individual is essential to understanding who we are. The way a
childis raised dictates how that child is going to become later on in life. One of the distinct
highlights of Griffin s essay was her use of describing the progress of the V1 rockets in World War
II. Griffin studies the aspects of human nature by using these missiledevelopments as a metaphor to
symbolize the raising of children and the factors that can influence a growing individual. One of the
prime figures that Griffin uses pertaining to these growing individuals was Heinrich Himmler,
leader of the Nazi secret police. Griffin uses Himmler as an example to demonstrate how big of a
role a parental figure can play in the development of a person.
The missile is guided by a programmed mechanism. There is no electronic device that can be
jammed. Once it is fired it cannot stop. As human beings, one of mankind s greatest talents is the
ability to absorb things from his or her surroundings as he or she continues to age. Children in
particular are easily influenced by factors that can shape their personality, whether if it s by the
environment, parental figures or friends. There is a common saying that a child does not know
racism or hate at birth; the child is only taught it. If a child grows up to become a racist, it s safe to
assume that the cause was from the influence of the guardians surrounding that child. In this text,
the missiles are the representation of young children guided by a programmed mechanism that is
gradually shaping his or her personalities as he or she grows older. What an individual grows up to
become depends majorly on the mechanism that is raising them.
The missile carries a warhead weighing 1,870 pounds. It has three different fuses to insure
detonation. It is easy for society to overlook the crushing

The Influence of Advertising
What is the Influence of Advertising on our children today? The influence of advertising on our
lives, for both our children and us, for many years the influence of advertising has changed. Some
people may remember when the advertisements of toy companies were directed at the adults
instead of the kids, hoping that the adults might buy the products. Today s advertisements have
changed. Advertisements are more pervasive, sophisticated, and are now aimed directly at
getting kids addicted to products at a very young age (Marconi, JM.). This goes to show that
advertisers have realized that it is better to go right for the person who the product is for and not
for the person that will be buying it for someone else. So how has advertising... Show more content

Whether it s the Porsche ad that shows the grade school boy recognizing the car as the King of
cool and success, or the Chevy that wins the NASCAR championship; these brands are sealed
into a child s mind at a young age. The dolls that little girls play with may promote brand name
make up, board games may make use of a specific credit card, and a hot wheels racetrack often
includes a specific brand of car (Hall and Kohrs 2006). All of these promotions are paid for by
manufacturers and serve a very specific purpose. This message often has the effect of making kids
consumers of such products at an increasingly early age and assures that they develop their brand
loyalty earlier.
Is Advertising Really That Influential? There are a number of studies that support the idea that
advertising is particularly effective with children due to the fact they don t have the same critical
thinking/judgment as an adult. The brief from the APA highlights this thought and discusses how
such advertising can lead children to unhealthy food and lifestyle choices (American psychological
association 2009). Advertising has also been shown to greatly influence a child s body image and
sexual development. This young media site covers many of the related issues. Children today often
feel the influence of advertising s subtle messages more strongly that those provided by schools and

The Theme Of Power In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
Julia Sherman
November 10, 2017
English Pd. 6
The Veldt Thematic Essay When considering reasons for a power or control shift in a relationship
between a parent and child, one of the most common reasons considered is the fact that parents are
giving kids too much too soon. As a parent gives these things, literal objects and figurative things,
too soon, they are actually letting the power in their relationship shift and giving the kids more
control. In The Veldt, the author, Ray Bradbury, emphasizes the theme with dialogue and tone. In
the short story, George and Lydia Hadley, and their two children Peter and Wendy, are living in a
smart house, where almost everything gets done for them. The quote, But I thought we that s
why we bought this house, so we wouldn t have to do anything? shows how little they have to do
to have everything nice and keep a good home. The children have grown up not doing anything;
they do not even paint their own pictures. The children do not do their own laundry, make their
own beds, or bathe themselves. Their lives are so simple, and all they spend their days doing is
looking, listening, and smelling. The children enjoy not participating in life, but merely spectating
it. Peter and Wendy not only get this literally, but they also figuratively get the freedom to come
and go as they please. Now, they may enjoy all of these things, but each thing or freedom which
Wendy and Peter receive is another piece of power that the parents once had

Jefferson summarizing his conversation with Burr, setting in motion the effort that would

In November a militia detachment caught up with Burr on the west bank of the Mississippi. Burr

the letter by denouncing Wilkinson whose perfidious conduct had completely frustrated his

The jury went on to condemn the arrest, suggesting that it had given cause to the enemies of our

to Fort Stoddart for two weeks and then sent by a nine man military guard on a one thousand mile

to investigate Mesmer s practices, this committee was called the Royal Commission. In order for
Mesmer to cure his patients he would sit opposite of them and would touch their finger and knees,
he would also look into the afflicted person s eyes (typically unmarried, rich, young ladies). After
several appointments with Mesmer the patients would experience a crisis and would be
miraculously cured. Mesmer first started curing his patients in one on one appointments, but soon
he began to train others in this art, these male understudies of Mesmer were called adepts. With
the help of these adepts Mesmer was able to cure more people at once. Mesmer, who was... Show

Only one of the five trees in the test was filled with magnetism, the others contained none. The
adept was placed in front of the trees and was asked which if of any of the trees were filled with
magnetism. The apept followed the row of trees stating that each one had a little more magnetism
than the one before it. The adept never got to the tree that was actually filled with magnetism, they
collapsed onto the ground and suffered a crisis. Another test was conducted with a woman. The
woman was placed in one room and in the adjoining room sat Deslon. The woman was not affected
by the magnetism until Deslon entered the room. Once Deslon entered the room the woman
suffered from a crisis. The tests concluded that animal magnetism was in fact not real, it was a

Waking Up Research Paper
BEEP BEEP BEEP My alarm goes off and I jump out of bed to turn off the terrible noise. I looked
at the time. 6:45 am. I should have woken up 45 minutes ago! I run down stairs and pour some
cereal and eat it without milk. I run back upstairs into the bathroom and wash my face, brushing
quickly through my hair, and back into my room and change into new clothes I had laid out the
night before, pale jeans with a few rips and a frayed seam at the ankle, and a white T shirt. I grab
my favorite cat pillow I slept on, and shove it into my bag with everything else. I grab my purse
and unplug my phone and put it in my purse. I go downstairs and grab a granola bar and put it in
my purse too. I run upstairs again and bang on my mom s door. Mom! Wake

How Did Isaac Newton Contribute To The Creation Of Atomic...
Many different scientists contributed to the atomic theory known today. Every single one of them
played an important role in creating the atomic theory known today. Around 400 BCE Leucippus,
the scientist who originally came up with the atomic theory, began to lay a foundation for the
theory known today. Then, Democritus adopted the ideas of Leucippus , his mentor. Democritus
soon developed the idea of an atom. Democritus believed everything was made up tiny particles of
matter, he called these particles atoms. He chose this name because, in Greek, atom means
indivisible. After Democritus, Isaac Newton was the next scientist to contribute to the atomic
theory. Isaac Newton began to realize that atoms were constantly moving and were not... Show

His work helped to contribute to the modern understanding of the atomic theory. Thus, at the
points A B C and D the electron would be subjected to maximum repulsive and attractive forces
while the positions a b and c would be stable But once disturbed from one of the latter positions
the electron would oscillate for a while and finally shift over into a new position of equilibrium At
the distance OE the curve representing the force exerted on the electron would become practically
the same as that corresponding to Coulomb s law Such a law of force might thus explain radiation
phenomena and perhaps the raison d etre of the constant h in the quantum theory. In 1905 Albert
Einstein was the next scientist to contribute to the atomic theory findings. His work on the theory
of relativity became the basis of nuclear energy. In 1909 came the following important discovery,
the discovery of the nucleus. Ernest Rutherford started to form an idea of the structure of an atom.
Rutherford used the scattering of alpha particles when shot through gold foil to discover the
structure of an atom, he called this experiment the gold foil experiment. Rutherford also decided to
call Thompson s + particles protons. P+ is another symbol that means

Al Davison s The Spiral Cage
A Reflection on Al Davison s The Spiral Cage
It was the beginning and the end that stood out to me in Al Davison s comic, The Spiral Cage.
When Davison showed us his first steps and told us that he never suspected that his doctor had
any doubts that he could walk, it help set the tone of the entire comic. (32 33) From the
beginning, those who mattered to Davison was able to provide him with a more enforced
foundation of love unlike the common cracked flasks that will leak no matter how much we try to
fill them. Davison was given the chance to make his own decisions on a situation without negative
influence, and as a result, we are able to see how he applied his sense of accomplishment throughout
his life.
Near the end of the comic, Davison

Disadvantages Of Free Community College
According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, college tuitions have climbed 1,225% since 1978, and
greatly ascended above the expenses of medical care, shelter and food. With such high tuitions,
some low income families have no way of affording the debt of higher education, and therefore not
looking into sending their high schoolgraduate to college. Instead of making all college free, the
government should liquidate the tuition fee of community college and offer a discounted tuition
for low income families.
By making community college free more financially disadvantaged students would get the
opportunity to heighten their education. Celeste Carruthers, an assistant professor at the University
of Tennessee, mentions: the price of college is a critical piece of information for students who are
unsure about going . She continues, free community college is effective at getting more students
into college, particularly when combined with mentoring . The government could supply the fairly
low tuition cost to all students, without worrying about housing or other living expenses. ... Show

Nikki Edgecombe, a senior research associate at the Community College Research Center at
Columbia University Teachers College said, I would like to see grants covering traditional
tuition, room and board financial aid package for community college and nonresidential college
students since a lack of housing, food security and child care will derail academic progress as fast
or faster than difficulty paying tuition or weak academic skills. If the government was planning on
funding all costs of college, then running out of housing and other living necessities would be
likely. That being said, the government would not offer a financial aid package like Edgecombe
suggested. Furthermore, if free community college tuition was offered, room and board would not
be a problem because most residential students are likely to continue living at

Louisiana Impact
The history of Louisiana prospers from the geography and the culture. The start of this Louisiana
began when the brothers Iberville and Bienville went up the Mississippi River. There are many
impacts as well as flaws that make Louisiana one of a kind. Some examples consist of political
scandals, racial problems, environmental concerns, and the culture. Even though Louisianasuffered
through some hard times, this place encouraged many to work through the struggles. The life of
Louisiana flourished in many ways; however some of circumstances were hard to deal with. From
the beginning, Louisiana encountered many disturbing tasks. An example illustrated in the article
described that Indian women were being seduced by Canadians and many were... Show more

Louisiana should be concerned about the wetlands because of the wildlife and fisheries. Without
it, Louisiana would not be able to supply seafood and wildlife. Another concern, is the land going
under and people could lose their homes. According to Allured and Martin, the destruction of the
wetlands came from the coastal and offshore oil and gas development (p.332). Also, there is some
thought that humans play a role in the destruction. According to Allured and Martin, swamps
symbolize as dark and chaotic places of the earth and marsh as a type of wet area that harbored
disease (p. 333). The importance of ascertaining the cause of the vanishing wetlands is to help
restore the wetlands and protect from a hurricane

Population Health Care
Population health is the wave of the future. Darves says it s the latest health care catch phrase and
it has enormous implications (2015, p. 6). However, when communities, cities and town are
healthy the cost of that group s healthcare is reduced. This is the ultimate goal of Hinden s
information and a growing number of varied populations. However, the effort involved must be
concerted for the delivery model to succeed. The benefit of a concerted approach to population
healthcare is that all care providers (clinical and nonclinical) take the whole healthof the patient into
account because all care providers now have a vested interest in the quality of care for which they
are being collectively paid to provide. This is a new concept for most American providers
accustom to seeking the maximum fee for service allowable and not always treating the whole
patients because of volume based patient care practices.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

practices, she now has an active team to assist in her recovery. The physician, case manager,
home health nurse and others (with the help of technology in the form of an electronic medical
record) are engaged. They are incentivized to reduce her need for readmission. This method of
having a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) works and will improve American health
overall. In its ideal form, the PCMH tailors healthcare services to each patient s needs...by
increasing access, managing all aspects of care and providing team based care led by the patients

Preceptor Experience Essay
The second half of my preceptorship went well and I learned a lot. I felt comfortable giving
medications, performing assessments, and caring for the patients. I was able to complete all of
my objectives. We were in the ER for one day, and the rest of the time my preceptor was the
Charge Nurse on the med surg floor. I gave medications every day that I was precepting. When
giving medications I am very cautious. I verify the patient, and we scan the patient and
medications. But sometimes medications are split in half and I needed to make sure to set
them aside during scanning. One day I scanned an aspirin and the computer said it was for the
wrong patient. I verified the medication on the MAR, and it was the correct medication. My
preceptor said that happens sometimes, and we manually entered the medication. I feel
comfortable giving medications, but will continue to be cautious. I performed assessments
every day of preceptorship. Lung sounds can be difficult for me to identify, so I liked being able
to listen and ask my preceptor if she heard the same thing. I heard a whooshing sound over the
heart of one of my patients and spent extra time listening to it. I guess he noticed that I was
confused because he told me that he has a Pig Valve. Some of the other sounds I could verify were
crackles and wheezes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was awkward for me since I have never been around it. I did not help with post mortem care
because they were not our patients and we were busy doing other things. My preceptor had to call
Lifeshare for organ and tissue donation, even though the patient was not an organ donor. This is
standard for all patients that pass away. The spouse of the patients insisted that the patient wasn t an
organ donor, but Lifeshare insists on talking to a family member. After telling Lifeshare that the
patient s religion was a Seventh Day Adventist, they didn t need to talk to the family because that
religion does not donate

  • 2. Pros And Disadvantages Of Delusion Delusions Variable Disadvantage Delusions are beliefs that have no basis in reality. The character refuses to abandon such beliefs even in the face of evidence to the contrary or at best comes up with rationalizations to explain away any contradictions. Prejudice: The belief that a group of people has certain characteristics. While everyone has some prejudices in some way or another, a delusional person staunchly holds to these beliefs. In some cases, the person refuses to trust or befriend any member of such a group, regardless of the merits of the individual person. Such a Delusion is worth 1 to 3 points, depending on how intense the belief is, how large a group it applies to, and how it dominates the character s life. At the 1 point level, the character could be an Archie Bunker type bigot; at 3 points, he would be a rabid Human/Faunus supremacist. Delusions of Grandeur: This person thinks they are somebody far greater and more powerful than they really are. The most common type has an exaggerated sense of overconfidence: I am a genius, but nobody understands me which is why the best job I ve held is the cashier at a 7 11 (1 point); I am the Messiah; prepare for the Second Coming! (3 points). Phobia: This Disadvantage is worth 1 to 3 points depending on the severity. 1 point represents a mild discomfort while 3 points represent an intense fear, maybe even to the point of anxiety. Emotional Problems Variable Disadvantage Those with Emotional Problems react in unreasonable ways to some situations. The reaction can be anger, sadness or anguish, typically more extreme than normal. These emotional problems can be triggered by distressful but relatively ordinary events in normal life; they prompt a very strong reaction. Fear of Rejection: This person is afraid of rejection. People with this problem may be afraid to make friends or approach people they are attracted to. If their fears come true they will harbor a great deal of resentment. This is a 1 point Disadvantage. Depression: This character s emotional problems make the very act of living seem like a hard chore. Common symptoms of Depression include sleep problems, severe procrastination, and a lack of interest in anything. A character with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Women And Gender During 20th Century America Name: Title: Institution: Women and gender In 20th Century America Abstract Paid work for women moved from principally customary female situated employments to all the more non conventional and already male arranged vocations. Ladies support in the workforce prompted them to start careers in the field dominated by male in the 20th century. Career yearnings were affected by elements, such as sexual orientation, financial status, race, occupation and instruction level, and parental desires. This paper exhibits how women developed, changed and the challenges they faced in the 20th century in America in the workforce and the advancement of ladies careers, improvement and profession goals during the 20th century in United States. Also, gender issues affecting women will be discussed in details during this period and how women played their role in fighting for their rights. Thesis Statement Ladies legislative issues in the 20th Century came to past self characterized women s activists, as conventional ladies associations handled issues of important to ladies regular lives. An examination of the positions and moves on welfare change made the researchers and feminist through Voters and the National Organization for Women in the middle of 1970s difficulties the suspicion that all white collar class women disregarded the issues of poor ladies and highlights a discriminating defining moment in American progressivism. • 4. Essay on A Feminist Reading of John Updike s A P A Feminist Reading of A P Gone are the days that humans could live impulsively, only taking physical pain and pleasure into account when making decisions. Or so one would like to believe. In a display of sheer innocence and ignorance, Sammy, a grocery clerk at the A P, managed to revert back to the original behavior patterns of his ape like ancestors. One cannot possibly predict the future of Sammy, given his own illogical and irrational behavior. But one can, through a careful examination of Sammy s life, determine that Sammy is just a naive, young man whose impulsive acts, partly as a consequence of his upbringing, compel him to participate in a cause not worth fighting for, instead of using his talents for more constructive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He had only one goal: do everything in his power to impress the girls, making sure they would not escape the hallowed A P without having awe filled reverence for the grocery clerk named Sammy. However, from the beginning, Sammy s idealistic dreams of renown had a sour taste to them. Sammy began his grocery clerk glory days as a victim of his own parents over watchfulness. His parents had known Lengel, the store manager, for years, and took it upon themselves to get Sammy a job. Perhaps his parents believed that doing Sammy s dirty work would somehow shelter Sammy from the so called real world, or perhaps they merely wanted the best for their son, and getting him a job was their way of giving Sammy what they felt he was due. Whatever his parents motives were, the end result was somewhat of a loss of Sammy s independence. Given the circumstances surrounding the rest of the story, it is not unreasonable to assume that Sammy had felt somewhat dependent upon his parents and did not like that dependence at all. But he had never faced the right circumstance that may have potentially given him a reason, or an excuse, to break his ties with his parents and become truly independent. Lengel points out, Sammy, you don t want to do this to your Mom and Dad . . . You ll feel this for the rest of your life (Updike411). Despite this warning, Sammy is more than willing to break the unwritten covenant he has with his parents and attempts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Story Of Elijah s God Elijah s God was Elisha s God! God utilized Elisha as His prophet for about fifty years. Elisha died but his influence remained in a number of ways. God s power was shown when a dead man s body was tossed into the grave of Elisha and came in contact with Elisha s bones. The dead man was revived and jumped to his feet. The miracle showed Israel once more that if they would have not rejected the words Elisha spoke on behalf of God, God would have been extremely gracious and merciful to His people. She also was the wife of King Jehoram of Judah, and the mother of King Ahaziah. Following Ahaziah s death at the hands of Jehu, Athaliah seized power and killed all members of the royal family who were possible rivals for the throne, except for Joash, the infant son of Ahaziah, who had been rescued by his Aunt Jehosheba. When Joash was seven years old, Jehoiada the priest conspired to have the young boy crowned in the Temple as king. When Queen Athaliah heard the commotion, she rushed to the Temple to see what was going on, and found the new king surrounded by army officers and people from all over the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets. Red Imported Fire Ants How to identify ants, In the United States, imported fire ants currently inhabit all or parts of Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. They are discovered sporadically in Maryland. The red imported fire ant has also been accidentally introduced to other countries. Imported fire ants will likely continue to spread throughout much of the southern portion of the U.S, and other parts of the world where climate conditions are suitable. They are, however, only a minority in the genus, which includes over 200 species of Solenopsis worldwide. Solenopsis are stinging ants and most of their common names reflect this, for example, ginger ants and tropical ants. Many species also are called red ants because of their light brown color, though species of ants in many other genera are similarly named for similar reasons. Examples include Myrmica rubra and Pogonomyrmex barbatus. None of these names applies in all countries nor to all species of Solenopsis, only to Solenopsis species; for example the colloquial names for several species of weaver ants in the genus Oecophylla in Southeast Asia include fire ants because of their red color and painful sting he two genera, however, are not closely related. It was back in 2008, I had just turned 6 years old a few months before we left to go there. It was summertime, and the weather was perfect. I remember being so bored on the way there because I am an only child so I didn t have anyone to entertain me besides myself. My mom s side of the familywent on this trip with us, and at the time I was the only grandkid, and the only kid at all. So once we finally were almost there I remember passing the big Welcome to Disney World sign and being so excited I peed my pants my mom was pretty mad, but my dad thought it was kinda funny so I didn t get in too much trouble. Anyways, so we checked in and got our room and our super cool disney cups and were all set. It was night time by the time we got there that day so we didn t really get to do much that day. So the next day we all got up and got ready for Hollywood Studios which is the part where all the disney movies are turned into games and rides. That day was super fun, most likely because growing up I didn t really watch anything besides disney movies or shows. So as the day went on I started getting sleepy but I was pushing through the sleepiness because I mean come on, I was at Disney World! • 8. Role Of A Human Resources Department Essay Role and Function of a Human Resources Department In today s work environment, organizations are continually seeking an advantage over the competition. One resource to assist with this ambition is to utilize the human resources (HR) department as a strategic partner in the micro and macro planning of the organization. This paper will define the role and function while distinguishing the duties and responsibilities of an effective HR department. Background Ellard Williams, Incorporated (EWI) is a manufacturing firm employing nearly 11,300 workers (Colorado State University Global Campus, n.d.). At this time, the firm is experiencing deficiencies in the HR department, which is leading to ineffective processes and a drop in profits throughout the organization. A strategic analysis revealed a slump in growth, high turnover rate, underpaid staff, and a loss in profits if all activities remain the same (n.d.). As a result of the unsuccessful HR department, employee motivation, performance, and productivity are suffering that is causing production delays and high defect rates (n.d.). Role and Function The HR professional s function is more than shuffling through applications, inputting data, and providing reports. Among HR roles, many authors argue that the strategic role is a pivotal one for HR professionals in today s organization (Mitchell et al, 2013, p. 900). What this means for HR professionals is they should participate in developmental and organizational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Disadvantages Of Municipal Fragmentation Across the globe, governments struggle to sufficiently represent their citizens. The breaking down of government responsibilities varies between countries, but one aspect that no country can agree on is what constitutes a municipality and how much responsibility a municipality should have. Should a cityregion be split into competing small municipalities, or should there be one municipal governmentfor the entire region? Across Europe following World War II fragmentation due to land reform was favoured (Jurgenson, 2016, p. 34) whereas now in present day, consolidation seems to be more desirable by governments seeking to be more cost efficient (Carmichael Midwinter, 1999, p. 163). As a means to compromise, city regions should be governed by a system that incorporates both aspects of fragmentation and consolidation. Through the analysis of economic effects, government issues, and cultural factors I will explore the benefits of municipal fragmentation and consolidation. A central occupation of a municipalityis the distribution of funds to various services. Municipalities can face several difficulties in regard to their economy because of their lack of power and responsibilities. Fragmentation could aid municipalities according to Grassmueck and Shields (2009) in their study Does government fragmentation enhance or hinder metropolitan economic growth? that suggests that regions with relatively fragmented governments had stronger relative economic performance over the ... Essay about Physics Cantilever Lab Independent Assessment Physics Lab (SL): Cantilever Flexion Cherno Okafor Mr. Ebrahimi SPH4U7 October 21st, 2012 Introduction Purpose: The purpose of this Physics Lab is to investigate what factors determine the amount of flexion of the cantilever. Hence, the objective is to establish a relationship between the length of a cantilever, which may give some insight into the physics of cantilevers. Hypothesis: If one increases the length of a cantilever, one would expect there to be an increase in deflection/flexion of the cantilever. Similarly, if one increases the massof the load, one would expect there to be an increase in the deflexion/flexion of the cantilever. In addition, I predict that proportionality will also occur ... This will be measured indirectly by measuring the initial height of the bottom of the cantilever with no mass added (which is equal to the height of the table) and the new height of the bottom of the cantilever after each trial, which will be measured with mass added. Hence, the difference between these heights is equal to the deflection/flexion of the cantilever. The material and other physical properties of the cantilever will be controlled by using the same yardstick as a cantilever for each trial. Data Collection and Processing My experiment is divided into two parts; experiment A (involving the relationship between flexion and the mass of the load) and experiment B (involving the relationship between the flexion and the length of the cantilever). • 12. Although I believe all three arguments cited by the author are important, this week s readings and discussion emphasized the third reason in particular. Through interviews and extensive data analysis the phenomenological study will aim to summarize what the individuals have experienced and how they have experienced it to arrive at the essence of the issue under investigation (Moustakas, 1994 as cited by Creswell, 2013, p. 79). Given the issue, transcendental phenomenology appears to be a desirable approach to gain a better understanding of the issue due to bracketing and its aim at perceiving a phenomenon new, fresh, and for the first time (Creswell, 2013, p. 80). Conducting a case study appears equally appropriate. Since case studies consist of qualitative approaches in which the investigator explores a real life, contemporary bounded system or multiple systems over time, through detailed, in depth data collection involving multiple sources of information, and reports a case description and case themes one could emphasize the changes in democratic participation as well as the motivators (Creswell, 2013, p. 97). Furthermore, case studies provide a wide array of approaches, including both quantitative and qualitative elements as well as explanatory, exploratory, and descriptive directions that could be used to investigate the proposed question (Creswell, 2013). Case selection would be purposeful, probably focusing on one to five NGOs engaging with the government to influence public policy and the people involved with the same. ... Today s era marks tall, skinny and flawless faces as beautiful, and if girls don t have any of these attributes, they truly believe that they aren t as beautiful and will do whatever it takes in order to obtain that beauty. The real reality is that models set an unattainable and unrealistic way for girls to look like. In No Model For Girls by Fiona Bawdon, the author explores how models and Photoshop can negatively affect adolescent girls body image. The author states that, magazine images are routinely airbrushed: thighs slimmed, wrinkles smoothed and blemishes removed (29). How are adolescent girls not supposed to feel self conscious and compare themselves to models when, in with a touch of Photoshop, models can look skinnier, have a flawless face, and appear more beautiful? Another startling statistic that was in the same study conducted by Marium Javaid and Iftikhar Ahmad, was that actresses and models had 10 15% less body fat whereas the average body fat for healthy women is 22 26% (30). This displays just how extremely thin and unrealistic these models are. The body fat for a healthy woman is 22 26%, yet girls still see themselves as fat and continue to try and lose weight. Defects Of Nuclear Weapons Isolde Fang Current issue Benefits and defects of nuclear weapons The use of nuclear weapons is a heated topic today, catching more attention from both the public and governments than before. While many countries favor nuclear weapons for safety and international reasons, nuclear weapons do have defects in moral, environmental, and economic aspects. For counties that favor nuclear weapons, they favor them because of the benefits brought by them in guaranteeing national safety and boosting international status. Nuclear weapons can protect a country physically, like a physical protection of national territory, just as Sico van der Meer writes in his article States Motivations to Acquire or Forgo Nuclear Weapons that nuclear weapons are considered to be the ultimate tool for survival. (2016) This citation shows that nuclear weapons are so powerful that they can be used as the ultimate tool of survival. Due to their power, they can protect a country s territory from external aggression by deterring other countries. Japan is a good example of this kind of country. There are many possible reactions Japan can made after the threat from North Korea of nuclear attack of U.S. bases in Japan. Sacred Space In Mircea Eliade s The Sacred And The Profane The first chapter of Mircea Eliade s book The Sacred and The Profane educates the reader on the general idea of what a sacred space is, how it affects religious and secular man, and how it came to be. He describes sacred space in the perspective of a religious man and the difference between it and profane space. Sacred space is commonly known to appear through the use of hierophany and theophany; however, Eliade presents several other ways they may come about. The 1920s, a time of celebration and prosperity, eventually ended as a result of a sudden economic crash, because of the effects from the times. During the World War I (1914 1918), women accepted the jobs that men had been working before they went on to fight for the U.S. Many women worked in factories, with heavy machinery, on farms, or even in offices as clerks. After the war, many women kept their jobs as clerks and secretaries. They obtained the right to vote in 1920 with the 19th amendment, which set loose the ideas of even more independence and a need to change the ideals of women. Post war prosperity gave way to credit being opened for the people to use. Fighting Charges of Assimilation in Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun and The Cosby Show The critical reception of The Cosby Show, an enormously popular television sitcom in the 1980 s, roughly paralleled that of A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry s highly acclaimed play of the 1950 s. Both the television series and the play helped change the way Blacks are portrayed in the entertainment media. But despite being initially greeted with critical praise, both subsequently fell under heavy scrutiny by many critics for being too assimilationist. However, all of this is not to say that Hansberry s play condones or endorses this kind of attitude or ideal. Nor is it accurate to assume that the play is against such assimilationist goals. Instead, A Raisin in the Sun remains decidedly and deliberately ambiguous in any sort of moral judgment. The 1950 s was a decade in which black literature emphasized the issue of integration. Black writers also consciously stressed the similarities between Blacks and Whites. Hansberry believed that blacks and Whites had similar character traits and values, as A Raisin in the Sun demonstrates. However, Hansberry assumed a consciously ambivalent stance in regard to social integration (Turner, 4). The Youngers did not want to move into a white community merely out of a desire to live with whites. They moved out of a desire for freedom and opportunity rather than for social integration. But this motivation should not be construed as a desire to assimilate. Instead, it is a desire to achieve an ideal shared by all Americans. Beauty In Bluest Eye By Pecola Breedlove Beauty is in the Eye of the (White) Beholder While working as a tutor for African refugee children recently, I helped an 11 year old girl create an icon of herself online. At first, I thought it was a harmless activity until I saw she created the icon of herself to have blue eyes, blond hair, and a great big white smile. I shifted uncomfortably, asked her why she chose to portray herself with blue eyes. She gave me a puzzled look and replied, they re the prettiest as if it was the most obvious answer in the world. Beauty is equated with happiness and success by Pecola who feels ugly and ashamed of her own brown hair and brown skin; a contrast from mainstream media idolized beauty. She feels all her troubles would be solved if she only had pretty blue eyes. However, this brings to question: who decided that to be white, blond and blue eyed was deemed to be the most beautiful? Racist undertones of White supremacy are prevalent in Morrison s story as these ideals of beauty are challenged. The toxicity of this ideal of beauty is especially poignant in Bluest Eye where Pecola s naivetГ© is taken advantage of in her desperate desire to be happy, cared for, and beautiful. Her final breaking point, believing she was given blue eyes by a religious man who claimed to fulfill dreams, is a shocking and disturbing consequence to Morrison s commentary about racial shame of beauty. Pecola goes mad, still unsatisfied that she has the bluest eyes , and quickly loses touch with reality after her devastating traumas and rejections. Society has failed Pecola when she was most in need of help. Pecola s silence about her madness reflects a wider issue of the inarticulation of internalized racial hatred. The characterizations of these double standards for beauty are summed up by Morrison in Bluest Eye. The result is a complex multi level set of identity issues. Bullying On Bullying The concept of bullying at work refers to all situations where one or more persons feel subjected to negative behavior from others in the workplace over a period of time and in a situation where they for different reasons are unable to defend themselves against these actions (Einasern, 2005). The young lady was been bullied and sexually harrased by her top exececutive boss, he had no right to make her feel that way to the point of ebven locking herself up just to avoid his lewd advances. Work rights are their to protect employes from such behvaiours from the boss, however I further read that in Russia Sexual harassmentis a norm in the work place because their culture has finally normalised it which can be clearly seen from the way the judge ruled on this case sexual harassment that the twenty year girl brought to his courtroom. In Russia, 40 percent of female professionals have had sex with their boss at least once, according to the story and eighty per cent of those who participated in the survey said they did not believe it possible to win promotion without engaging in sexual relations with their male superiors (Einasern, 2005). Such kind of notions makes it okay for the perpetrators to think that its normal to sexually harassed women at work and objectify it. I have been a similar situation where the top boss of our department s husband who works for the same company started sending me inappropriate emails; I went to my immediate boss and reported the emails. My immediate boss was afraid to deal with the situation because the perpetrators wife was her boss and friend. This left with no choice but to take to management. Management cautioned the perpetrator and he stopped but his wife started giving me a cold shoulder and started treating me differently after this, as if I was the one in the wrong. We have to bear in mind she was my boss as well, so you can imagine how uncomfortable the situation was at work. The movie presents a verifiable and precise account of the collective experience of slaves in the United States of America in the late 18th century. The basic facts of the movie from the start to the finish concern events about the places, the time, and the practices that took place during the slave era in detail. Who are we as a society who can do the things we do? Who are we who can suffer from them? Award winning poet and essayist Susan Griffin confronts these distinct questions in her work titled, Our Secret . Griffin believes that a basic understanding of the things that play a part in the growth of an individual is essential to understanding who we are. The way a childis raised dictates how that child is going to become later on in life. One of the distinct highlights of Griffin s essay was her use of describing the progress of the V1 rockets in World War II. Griffin studies the aspects of human nature by using these missiledevelopments as a metaphor to symbolize the raising of children and the factors that can influence a growing individual. One of the prime figures that Griffin uses pertaining to these growing individuals was Heinrich Himmler, leader of the Nazi secret police. Griffin uses Himmler as an example to demonstrate how big of a role a parental figure can play in the development of a person. The missile is guided by a programmed mechanism. There is no electronic device that can be jammed. Once it is fired it cannot stop. As human beings, one of mankind s greatest talents is the ability to absorb things from his or her surroundings as he or she continues to age. Children in particular are easily influenced by factors that can shape their personality, whether if it s by the environment, parental figures or friends. There is a common saying that a child does not know racism or hate at birth; the child is only taught it. If a child grows up to become a racist, it s safe to assume that the cause was from the influence of the guardians surrounding that child. In this text, the missiles are the representation of young children guided by a programmed mechanism that is gradually shaping his or her personalities as he or she grows older. Advertisements are more pervasive, sophisticated, and are now aimed directly at getting kids addicted to products at a very young age (Marconi, JM.). The Theme Of Power In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury Julia Sherman November 10, 2017 English Pd. 6 The Veldt Thematic Essay When considering reasons for a power or control shift in a relationship between a parent and child, one of the most common reasons considered is the fact that parents are giving kids too much too soon. As a parent gives these things, literal objects and figurative things, too soon, they are actually letting the power in their relationship shift and giving the kids more control. In The Veldt, the author, Ray Bradbury, emphasizes the theme with dialogue and tone. In the short story, George and Lydia Hadley, and their two children Peter and Wendy, are living in a smart house, where almost everything gets done for them. The quote, But I thought we that s why we bought this house, so we wouldn t have to do anything? shows how little they have to do to have everything nice and keep a good home. Mesmer believed that the entire human body was filled with this magnetism and that it was carried through the body in a constant flow. Illnesses occur as the result of the flow of magnetism becoming blocked off. Mesmer was able to cure his patients through several appointments. Soon, high powered, influential members of society began to investigate Mesmer s practices, this committee was called the Royal Commission. In order for Mesmer to cure his patients he would sit opposite of them and would touch their finger and knees, he would also look into the afflicted person s eyes (typically unmarried, rich, young ladies). After several appointments with Mesmer the patients would experience a crisis and would be miraculously cured. Mesmer first started curing his patients in one on one appointments, but soon he began to train others in this art, these male understudies of Mesmer were called adepts. With the help of these adepts Mesmer was able to cure more people at once. Mesmer, who was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The adept was placed in front of the trees and was asked which if of any of the trees were filled with magnetism. The apept followed the row of trees stating that each one had a little more magnetism than the one before it. The adept never got to the tree that was actually filled with magnetism, they collapsed onto the ground and suffered a crisis. Another test was conducted with a woman. The woman was placed in one room and in the adjoining room sat Deslon. The woman was not affected by the magnetism until Deslon entered the room. • 41. Waking Up Research Paper BEEP BEEP BEEP My alarm goes off and I jump out of bed to turn off the terrible noise. I looked at the time. 6:45 am. I should have woken up 45 minutes ago! I run down stairs and pour some cereal and eat it without milk. I run back upstairs into the bathroom and wash my face, brushing quickly through my hair, and back into my room and change into new clothes I had laid out the night before, pale jeans with a few rips and a frayed seam at the ankle, and a white T shirt. I grab my favorite cat pillow I slept on, and shove it into my bag with everything else. I grab my purse and unplug my phone and put it in my purse. I go downstairs and grab a granola bar and put it in my purse too. I run upstairs again and bang on my mom s door. Mom! Wake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. How Did Isaac Newton Contribute To The Creation Of Atomic... Many different scientists contributed to the atomic theory known today. Every single one of them played an important role in creating the atomic theory known today. Around 400 BCE Leucippus, the scientist who originally came up with the atomic theory, began to lay a foundation for the theory known today. Then, Democritus adopted the ideas of Leucippus , his mentor. Democritus soon developed the idea of an atom. Democritus believed everything was made up tiny particles of matter, he called these particles atoms. He chose this name because, in Greek, atom means indivisible. After Democritus, Isaac Newton was the next scientist to contribute to the atomic theory. Isaac Newton began to realize that atoms were constantly moving and were not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His work helped to contribute to the modern understanding of the atomic theory. Thus, at the points A B C and D the electron would be subjected to maximum repulsive and attractive forces while the positions a b and c would be stable But once disturbed from one of the latter positions the electron would oscillate for a while and finally shift over into a new position of equilibrium At the distance OE the curve representing the force exerted on the electron would become practically the same as that corresponding to Coulomb s law Such a law of force might thus explain radiation phenomena and perhaps the raison d etre of the constant h in the quantum theory. In 1905 Albert Einstein was the next scientist to contribute to the atomic theory findings. His work on the theory of relativity became the basis of nuclear energy. In 1909 came the following important discovery, the discovery of the nucleus. Ernest Rutherford started to form an idea of the structure of an atom. Rutherford used the scattering of alpha particles when shot through gold foil to discover the structure of an atom, he called this experiment the gold foil experiment. Rutherford also decided to call Thompson s + particles protons. P+ is another symbol that means ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Al Davison s The Spiral Cage A Reflection on Al Davison s The Spiral Cage It was the beginning and the end that stood out to me in Al Davison s comic, The Spiral Cage. When Davison showed us his first steps and told us that he never suspected that his doctor had any doubts that he could walk, it help set the tone of the entire comic. (32 33) From the beginning, those who mattered to Davison was able to provide him with a more enforced foundation of love unlike the common cracked flasks that will leak no matter how much we try to fill them. Davison was given the chance to make his own decisions on a situation without negative influence, and as a result, we are able to see how he applied his sense of accomplishment throughout his life. Near the end of the comic, Davison ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Disadvantages Of Free Community College According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, college tuitions have climbed 1,225% since 1978, and greatly ascended above the expenses of medical care, shelter and food. With such high tuitions, some low income families have no way of affording the debt of higher education, and therefore not looking into sending their high schoolgraduate to college. Instead of making all college free, the government should liquidate the tuition fee of community college and offer a discounted tuition for low income families. By making community college free more financially disadvantaged students would get the opportunity to heighten their education. Celeste Carruthers, an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee, mentions: the price of college is a critical piece of information for students who are unsure about going . She continues, free community college is effective at getting more students into college, particularly when combined with mentoring . The government could supply the fairly low tuition cost to all students, without worrying about housing or other living expenses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nikki Edgecombe, a senior research associate at the Community College Research Center at Columbia University Teachers College said, I would like to see grants covering traditional tuition, room and board financial aid package for community college and nonresidential college students since a lack of housing, food security and child care will derail academic progress as fast or faster than difficulty paying tuition or weak academic skills. If the government was planning on funding all costs of college, then running out of housing and other living necessities would be likely. That being said, the government would not offer a financial aid package like Edgecombe suggested. Furthermore, if free community college tuition was offered, room and board would not be a problem because most residential students are likely to continue living at ... Louisiana should be concerned about the wetlands because of the wildlife and fisheries. Without it, Louisiana would not be able to supply seafood and wildlife. Another concern, is the land going under and people could lose their homes. According to Allured and Martin, the destruction of the wetlands came from the coastal and offshore oil and gas development (p.332). Also, there is some thought that humans play a role in the destruction. According to Allured and Martin, swamps symbolize as dark and chaotic places of the earth and marsh as a type of wet area that harbored disease (p. 333). • 46. Population Health Care Population health is the wave of the future. Darves says it s the latest health care catch phrase and it has enormous implications (2015, p. 6). However, when communities, cities and town are healthy the cost of that group s healthcare is reduced. This is the ultimate goal of Hinden s information and a growing number of varied populations. However, the effort involved must be concerted for the delivery model to succeed. The benefit of a concerted approach to population healthcare is that all care providers (clinical and nonclinical) take the whole healthof the patient into account because all care providers now have a vested interest in the quality of care for which they are being collectively paid to provide. This is a new concept for most American providers accustom to seeking the maximum fee for service allowable and not always treating the whole patients because of volume based patient care practices.... • 47. Preceptor Experience Essay The second half of my preceptorship went well and I learned a lot. I felt comfortable giving medications, performing assessments, and caring for the patients. I was able to complete all of my objectives. We were in the ER for one day, and the rest of the time my preceptor was the Charge Nurse on the med surg floor. I gave medications every day that I was precepting. When giving medications I am very cautious. I verify the patient, and we scan the patient and medications. But sometimes medications are split in half and I needed to make sure to set them aside during scanning. One day I scanned an aspirin and the computer said it was for the wrong patient. I verified the medication on the MAR, and it was the correct medication. My preceptor said that happens sometimes, and we manually entered the medication. I feel comfortable giving medications, but will continue to be cautious. I performed assessments every day of preceptorship. Lung sounds can be difficult for me to identify, so I liked being able to listen and ask my preceptor if she heard the same thing. I heard a whooshing sound over the heart of one of my patients and spent extra time listening to it. I guess he noticed that I was confused because he told me that he has a Pig Valve.
