The Repressions Of Women In Le Morte DArthur By Thomas Malory
The impressions of women throughout history influenced the way authors depicted women in their
works. The belief that women are the cause of men s problems dates back to the bible s first
chapter. The chapter lead men to believe the ultimate fall of humanity was at the hands of a woman.
Consequently, this belief has been carried from generations to generations throughout history. The
legend of Morgan Le Fay changes behaviorally from evil and spiteful in Le Morte D Arthur by
Thomas Malory to kind and nourishing in Avalon from Vita Merlin by Geoffrey of Monmouth
because of the different notions of women throughout history. During the Middle Ages women went
from being their father s daughters to their husband s wives to their children s... Show more content

Certain individuals decided to change their beliefs. Some began to see women as nurturing
creatures rather than the bane of all of man s existence. This idea reflects in the poem by
Geoffrey of Monmouth, Avalon from the Vita Merlini . This poem tells the tale of a beautiful
island where nine sisters live. The sisters are generous and kind to all who visit their home. The
poem then shifts focus to Morgan Le Fay, almost bragging that she may cure sick bodies
(Geoffrey of Monmouth). This differs from the Middle Age text greatly. Even the tone of the
poem is light and airy in contrast to the dark and mysterious tone of the earlier story. The poem
goes on to tell a story of Morgan Le Fay saving someone, explaining she saved a man that had
gone into battle with her own honorable hand (Geoffrey of Monmouth). This man was her half
brother Arthur, and whether the characters know of their relation is a mystery to the audience.
In the poem Morgan Le Fay saves her brother; in the story she nearly kills him. It is clear the
narrator of the poem admires Morgan Le Fay, as shown by the use of word honorable to describe
her on many occasions. The depiction of the women in this story reflects how some people felt
toward women in the Modern Ages, and once again turning life into art. Art imitates life in these
two works. The societal beliefs of the Middle Ages were prominently against women having any
power, though there are always some

The Role Of Liberty And Equality
This review shall analyze the role of liberty and equality as they pertain to liberal and conservative
ideologies. Alexis de Tocqueville, one of the greatest commentators on the American political
tradition, viewed it through the lens of two related ideas: liberty and equality. These ideas, so
eloquently framed by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence, have remained
inextricably and uniquely conjoined in American political thought: equality is understood as the
equal possession of natural rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. By considering
American reflections on these core ideas over time in relation to constitutional principles, religion,
and race this volume provides an especially insightful perspective for understanding our political
tradition.
Liberty refers to the freedom that individuals have whereas equality refers to treating all individuals
in the same manner.
Equal¬ity before the law is the natural state in a political society, but equality of goods and social
life in general is unnatural, and would take a great amount of regulation and coercion to achieve
and sustain.
I define liberty as the absence of coercion, the individual s right to do whatever he chooses with his
life and property as long as he does not directly harm others. USE QUOTE HERE
Liberty and equality are interrelated. This is when one party enjoys liberty to engage in a particular
activity, but the others are denied the same right. This results in a

I remember Eddie s Sweet shop when I was just a boy. Growing up in Queens, I use to beg my
parents to drive me over to Eddie s sweet shop where I would watch the employees make the
homemade ice cream from behind the counter and pour a giant helping of ice cream onto a
metal dish. Now, years later, I have aged but Eddie s Sweet Shop has remained the same. It s
location still hasn t changed on Metropolitan Avenue in Queens, NY near the movie theater. The
exact address of Eddie s sweet shop is 10529 Metropolitan Avenue in Flushing, NY in the
borough of Queens. Eddie s Sweet Shop is about as Old Fashioned as you can get. How many
restaurants have you heard of that can say they still make homemade ice cream? Eddie s Sweet
shop is a true classic and the customers who go to Eddie s sweet shop always come back for its
great taste. Even more memorable than the homemade ice cream and enormous scoops of ice
cream that they give you is the hot fudge they pour onto your ice cream. The hot fudge is also
homemade, as are all of the ingredients used at Eddie s sweet shop. The ambiance is very unique
and well represented of a little kids store with teddy bears and kids toys scattered by the window

customers enjoy sitting at the counter stools and there are also about half a dozen booths in the

We Must Provide Health Care In Irish-American Culture
Jewish Americans prefer to speak directly, and may be offended by touch. Handshakes with the

Circumcision is completed at home. A strong belief in God exists, and God is the final decision

The Life of Hildegard Von Bingen
Isaiah
Dr. Brauner
Music History 211
Flanangan, Sabina . Hildegard of Bingen, A Visionary Life. New York: Routlege, 1989. This
book mainly focuses on the life of Hildegard as a spiritualist and a healer, as do most books that
were written about her. It begins by outlining the basic events of her life and death; her illness as
a child, her education at a convent by a woman named Jutta, and the visions she saw from an early
age. She regarded these visions as gifts from God but was reluctant to share them with the world
until one critical dream. And it came to pass...when I was forty two years and seven months old that
the heavens were opened up and a blinding light... flowed through my entire brain... and I suddenly

him and pierce him... I will cast his crown from his head.... Let no man be so bold as to add
anything to this book... nor to delete anything...lest he be deleted from the book of life... This
suggests that people in high power were beginning to tire of a woman with so much control and
influence over the common people and were trying to silence her by censoring or even outright
discrediting her.

This is a particularly good internet resource because it was compiled by a group of people
working to promote the tradition of Hildegard, as is stated in the their name, Working Group for
the Promotion of the Tradition of Hildegard. Also it is a group that is based in Germany, so their
culture is more closely rooted to the history of Hildegard than would be if it were a group of
American historians. It provides links to several documents that were written on the subject on
the life of Hildegard von Bingen, a link to an encyclopedia dedicated to catholic history, and a
forum for the die hard Hildegard fans or the world. The site also has information on the history of
the town of Bingen itself, as well as travel information should one decide to visit.

Desperation Character Analysis
Having hope and courage is hard in a town like Desperation. A mining town controlled by an evil
spirit, Tak, that inhabits citizens, and it forces them to do unspeakable things. It first possesses a
cop, Collie Entragian, who kidnaps people and murders them. However, the Collie Entragian
survival crew has bravery at all times. In the book Desperationby Stephen King, King s message is
courage is a powerful tool. The main characters experience unimaginable torture and many
hardships. However, they keep going and face their fears.
David Carver was abducted with his family by Collie Entragian. He always has hope and is
faithful; he believes it was his job to serve and love God. Throughout the novel, he uses this to
motivate him. Within the first couple hours of being in Desperation, both his sister, father, and
mother were murdered. Although this is immensely tough, he tried to prevent this from
happening to others. For example, he risked his life to find another person. He stated, I can find
him. He s close...I m supposed to find him (King 596). David was courageous in this moment
because he knew the risks and still went out to find John Marinville. This action speaks volumes
about David s character and the overall theme. For example, David knew he could face a similar
fate as his family, but he fought against the demon. Instead of fearing what Takmight do, he
focused on helping others and escaping. He overcame Tak because of the courage he had, not by

Positive Observations
The audit team took note of positive observations during the audit. Positive observations are
typically where a particular practice stands out as providing a substantial level of regulatory
diligence. Positive observations tend to be good examples that could be examined for emulation at
other shops in the Program.
Positive observations noted during the audit included:
The personnel at this facility were very accommodating and forthcoming. It was a positive
culture in which to conduct an audit.
A strong sense of camaraderie between the instructors, students, and the Program Chair.
Tool inspection records were available and detailed. A central depository of tool inspection

Conclusion
The auditors would like to thank all employees of the Carpentry Program for participating in this
safety audit process. Interviewees were very forthcoming and willing to share stories of how they
utilize the safety program. A big thanks also goes out to members of the NAIT OH S team for
helping to organize the audit activities and gather the information to be reviewed.
Our OH S audit of the Carpentry shop at NAIT in March 2017 identified a number of
noncompliance findings and opportunities for improvement. Most of the audit findings represent
relatively minor variances from regulatory requirements. Recommendations provided in this report
aim to address each of the findings and improve OH S performance.
The next requirement for the Carpentry Program is to develop an action plan to address all
recommendations and key suggestions for improvements from this report. Also to determine
appropriate corrective actions based on the auditor s recommendations, assign the action with a time
frame for completion, and make provisions for sign off which includes a date when completed and
implemented. Discuss the audit results with all staff and look

Examples Of Conscientious Objection

healthcare system concerning the rights of healthcare and religious institutions, universities with
religious affiliation, and private business owners who refuse to provide insurance that covers

encompasses individual practitioners such as physicians and nurses who refuse to participate in this

Literary Analysis Of Frederick Douglass By Robert Hayden
When it is finally ours this freedom, this liberty, this beautiful (Line 1) is one of the many lines
in Robert Hayden s poem Frederick Douglass . One of many poems in which Hayden takes
events or figures from African American history as his subject. This poem was written as a tribute
to Frederick Douglas himself. One of the very well known and praised African Americans in the
nineteenth century. This is no ordinary poem for Hayden. It is written in an improper sonnet. By
improper I mean, sonnets are usually fourteen lines using any of a number of formal rhyme
schemes, which typically has ten syllables per line. Hayden has done a great job in using many
different literary techniques to emphasize the work Frederick Douglass has done.... Show more

Anaphora is defined as the repetition of a word or a group of words in the beginning of a
sentence to add an emphasis and/or bring clauses together. It is important to understand that the
utility of anaphora is most commonly used in poetry to add an artistic effect. With that being
said, the opening anaphoric, When it is finally ours, this freedom, this liberty, this beautiful and
terrible thing creates a momentum which will sustain this sentence for eleven lines. The next
clause in this sentence switches the anaphora from this to when it . The overall function of
anaphora is not only to add emphasis but to create a form of rhythm to make it memorable and
pleasing to the audience. Similes were used in this poem is different ways. Hayden was trying
to get the readers to understand what he was trying to say by making some simple comparisons.
Similes is a figurative language that is defined as drawing comparisons. An example of a simile
in the poem would be Needful to man as air, useable as earth (Lines 2 3) Hayden is comparing
freedom to air and earth. Hayden is trying to get the reader to understand how important freedom
is to a human being. Freedom and liberty is something that we all should obtain. The next literary
technique used in this poem is imagery. Imagery is a mental image. Hayden states This man
Douglass, this Negro, Beaten to his knees exiled, visioning a world, where none is lonely, none
haunted, alien (Line 7 9). Hayden is trying

Demographic And Epidemiological Transition
1)One characteristic that is similar of demographic and epidemiological transitions is that they both
focus on mortality within a population. Both examine mortality changes within a population, and
can even measure mortality within the same population, (yet demographic does this on a overall
level and epidemiological in a cause specific manner). It is clear that both transitions measure
mortality at the population level. 2)Demographic transition is focused on overall mortality while
epidemiological transition is focused on determinants of mortality. Demographic transition is
interested more in if people are dying and the numbers of people dying (with special attention paid
to fertility and mortality overall), while epidemiological transition

Rudyard Kipling s The Man Who Would Be King Essay
Rudyard Kipling s The Man who Would Be King deals with man s ability to rule. The character
Dravot s success and failure in ruling derives from the perception of him as a god, instead of a
king. Kipling uses the perception of Dravot as a god to show that though a king can rule as a god,
he becomes a king by being human.
Dravot gains kingly power by being perceived as a god. The perception of him as a god occurs
through his actions and luck. After helping the first village Peachy and he find in Kafiristan,
Dravot takes power from the former leaders. He becomes more than a leader to the people,
however, as every morning Dravot sat by the side of old Imbra, and the people came and
worshipped. That was Dravot s order (92). By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

it s the missing Mark that no one could understand the why of (95). The displaying of the mark
proves Dravot as a god, since only the Gods know that (99). Dravot establishes his kingdom by
ruling as a god, not a king.
Dravot s perception as a god leads to his downfall by conflicting with his kingly aspirations. He
intends to establish a dynasty, and he needs a Queen to breed a King s son for the King (98). Dravot
plans to chose a woman from amongst his tribes; alas, his people are skeptical of this, for How
can daughters of men marry Gods or Devils? (99). Dravot s god appearance directly conflicts
with his aspiration for a dynasty; he cannot find a wife who will want him as a god, yet he needs
a woman to bear his children. He ignores all warnings and proceeds to find and marry his queen.
The downfall of Dravot occurs on his wedding day, as his bride bites him The slut s bitten me!
says he, clapping his hand to his neck, and sure enough, his hand was red with blood (100). The
sight of blood awakens the natives to Dravot s mortality. Shrieks of Not a God, not a Devil, but
only a man! (100) proclaim in the valley. The natives turn on Dravot, outraged at having thought
him a god.

Consequences of Passion Exposed in The Romance of Tristan and Iseult
The story of Tristan and Iseult celebrates the triumph of adultery. When looking vaguely at this
romance, readers may think the potion of love that they both drink is the one that makes them to
commit adultery. However, this is only a representation of the power of passion and lust Tristan and
Iseult have for each other.
To better understand this love story, one must realize that Tristan is a marshal hero who volunteers
to take a battle against the King of Ireland, in order to redeem the people and the monarch of King
Mark. It would therefore, be suitable to say that King Mark has given his nephew the trust to
accomplish the mammoth exercise. In Ireland, Tristan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This is where the story of Tristan and Iseult takes a twist because the reader knows enough that
Tristan, if given the chance, would like to have Iseult for himself. It is fascinating therefore, when
Iseult s mother entrusts Tristan with the potion of love that should only be shared between King
Mark and Iseult. By this time, Tristan and Iseult have developed passion in each other, and the
potion they would drink only enhances the chemistry that is already existent. To not drink the
potion, which Tristan knows would cause Iseult to love him even more, is attempting to remain
dishonest to his true self. Tristan is not just an ordinary man; he is a war hero seducing the would
be queen of Cornwall. Because of this predicament, Iseult as the wife to the king is to engage in
adulterous affair with Tristan to reinforce the courtly love value, while Tristan gains access to Iseult
through chivalrious prowess. The potion of wine therefore, serves as a big temptation for both, and
the Christian ideal that is forced into the situation by the hermit stands as an experiment.
How then can all these three values be reconciled in this story? I think it is not only the flaw
displayed by medieval people like Tristan to succumb to the temptation of fulfilling sexual desires.
The concept of eat, drink and be merry comes into play in this story and quite evidently, even in our
contemporary society, we have not

Comparative Analysis of Adaptive Threshold Based Spectrum Sensing Techniques in Cognitive
Radio Networks
Abstract: In the last two decades, the number of wireless communication users and its applications
increasing rapidly. With this rapid growth there exists spectrum scarcity. One of the best solutions
to avoid spectrum scarcity is cognitive radio with its dynamic spectrum sensing. Cognitive radio is
a promising technology, which is used to sense the unused spectrum in an appropriate manner.
Various methods have been proposed in the past, such as energy detection, matched filterand so on
[1 6 7]. Different techniques serve different purpose based on their advantages and disadvantages.
In this paper, the author suggests an approach of dynamic threshold to increase the probability
detection of spectrum sensing. Spectrum sensing using energy detection, matched filter detectors
based on fixed threshold and dynamic threshold are simulated using MATLAB. The performance of
energy detection, matched filter detector is compared by plotting probability detection versus
signal to noise ratio graph.
Keywords: Spectrum Sensing, Cognitive Radio, Wireless Communication, Energy Detection,
Matched Filter, Probability Detection and Threshold.

Cinderell A Story Of Sibling Rivalry And Oedipal Conflicts
The story and symbolism of Cinderella is viewed in different kinds of ways. In 1697, the most
popular version of Cinderella was called Cindrillon written by a Frenchman named Charles Perrault.
Many individuals were drawn to Perrault s story due to the elements: the pumpkin being
transformed into a chariot, the fairy godmother, and the glass slipper. Later throughout history,
about 1500 different versions of Cinderellawere being altered by dissimilar cultures. The most
popular story is about a girl that has a magical guardian who helps her overcome how her family
treats her. According to Bruno Bettelheim in his article Cinderella : A Story of Sibling Rivalry
and Oedipal Conflicts, shares Cinderella hopes and her troubles through sibling rivalry and how
she overcame it. On the other hand, a feminist theologian, Madonna Kolbenschlag explains in her
article A Feminist s View of Cinderella that Cinderella displays patterns of feminine socialization
by her feeling worthless and wanting rescue. In the two articles, the tale of Cinderella has the
audience ponder over the topic of sibling rivalry. According to Bettelheim, sibling rivalry can
make a child feel worthless in their home. For example, Cinderella was assigned to due worthless
tasks, hearing her stepmother say nasty views of her. With this in consideration, he says that a child
will soon believe what he is hearing. The thoughts of not having respect, to be free of wickedness,

In Beth Bailey s Sex in the Heartland, She talks about the sexual revolution and how this played
a huge role in the 1960 s counterculture. She had said that Woodstock was where they promoted
the idea of free love and the pill , this then introduced the breaking down of demonized
homosexuality. Most of the people there had been very free spirited and did whatever they
wanted, hence how the fences had been forced down and couldn t stop free admission.
Homosexuality was more accepting after Woodstock. People had realized that it didn t matter
what sexuality you were and this was the start of a better society when it came to gay
acceptance. This was a counterculture because most of this wasn t introduced at this time and
people that were of different sexuality felt more comfortable in that type of environment of
peace. All kind of sexuality was apart of the social norm and it was seen as more casual at that
point. There were many ideas of free love and new ideas of sexual representation that were never

Mengzi Human Nature
Many people have different views about human nature. Some believe we tend to be good, others
evil, and some even believe we can be neutral. Mengzi is more optimistic about humanity. He
believes our nature is to be good. It is a belief he holds up throughout each book. Even though
some like Gaozi, believe differently. But through all that we still can t have a certain answer, it all
depends on your own beliefs, be it religiously or morally.
Mengzi claims that by nature humans are inherently good. We don t have an evil side until
circumstances create it. Humans will always be good until our situations change us. Furthermore,
as for their becoming not good, this is not the fault of their potential... (Mengzi 6A6 147 148). It is

Either you can choose to be immoral and wicked, or you can let your circumstances choose for
you. The office of the heart is to reflect. If it reflects, then it will get [Virtue]. If it does not reflect,
then it will not get it (Mengzi 6A15 151). You have to actively seek out to be good. By forgetting
about benevolence and righteousness you abandon them. In turn that forces you to go to the
bad side. Being good and virtuous may come naturally, but we have to work to keep those values
within us. Abandoning them is abandoning your nature. This makes it easier for you to forsake
your character and embrace immorality. If you are besieging [your nature] day by day, can it
remain beautiful?... Others see that he is a bird or a beast, and think that there was never any
capacity there (Mengzi 6A8 149). It is easier to be a bad person than it is to be good, but
ultimately it is our bad moments that we regret the most. Those will be the things that haunt us
forever, and make us suffer with guilt. Being good to everyone, is a harder task but it is well
worth it. We are inherently good, but we have to work to stay good and

Why I Choose Michael Faraday 114
Why I Chose Michael Faraday114 When I was given free rein on a topic for research, the first

Hallucinations In Macbeth
Shakespeare is known for using unnatural or supernatural elements in many of his works to
reinforce his themes. Several apparitions throughout the play affect Macbeth and the evil forces
destroy his morals. The super natural represents Macbeth s internal guilt and struggle. Three
examples of this in Macbethare when Macbeth sees the ghost of Banquo, Macbeth sees a bloody
knife before he kills Duncan and it is pointed toward Macbeth s chambers, and Lady Macbeth sees
hallucinations that her hands are bloodstained. In Macbeth, Shakespeare uses the world of visions,
hallucinations, and ghosts to develop important theme of how power drives people to commit
unnatural actions of destruction and violence. First, Ghosts and the witches lead a very... Show

Macbeth sees a bloody knife before he kills Duncan and it is pointed toward Macbeth s
chambers. This is an example of the supernatural and it pushes Macbeth to commit the violent
murder. He wishes he had never built himself up to kill him. Lady Macbeth encouraged the
murder. Macbeth sees a hallucination of the bloody knife when he says, Is this dagger which I
see before me/ The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch / thee / I have thee not, and yet
I see thee still. / Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible / To feeling as to sight? (2.1.44 49) Macbeth
sees the bloody knife because it reminded him of killing Duncan. Lady Macbeth s blood stains on
her hands is a connection to her role in encouraging Macbeth to use violence to gain power even
though she did not kill the people with her hands. After Macbeth killed Duncan, he was very
scared. He saw the blood on his hands and realized he should not have killed Duncan. He is
regretting that he killed him. As Macbeth waited to kill Duncan he hears one of the servants
laughing and one cried, Murder! and they woke each other up. (2.2.31) One servant cried, God

musical influences Essay
Music has been used for many different things throughout history. It is said that music influences a
person s brain, and by doing so, has an effect on overall behavior or activity of a person. Many
Indian tribes across North America used percussion instruments (drums) to contact the spirits of
their ancestors. During the Renaissance period, during many parties held by royalty, classical
music was played to keep a happy atmosphere about the ballroom. In the next few paragraphs, we ll
look at how today s society blames Metal Music for many behavioraldisorders amongst the youth.
Musical preferences are as diverse as the people who listen to them. Different types of music have

Parents want the best for their children, but sometimes their efforts are not beneficial. When parents
nag their children about what they should/shouldn t listen to, kids can become angry and
depressed. This can possibly lead to drinking, drug use, and suicide. Parents can blame this
behavior on the music that their kids are listening to, but they will never be able to link it to the
music their children enjoy.
Studies have been done on the effect of heavy metal music. Child psychiatrists at the University of

that many teens who thought, seriously, about suicide and have thought about or have abused
drugs listen to heavy metal, but they can t show a direct connection between the music and these
actions. Another recent survey done by the University of Iowa reported that female hard

Analysis Of Jean-Jacques Rousseau s The Origin Of Civil...
French philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau says in his essay The Origin of Civil Society, man
is not free, and everywhere he is in chains. He expresses in this essay on how upon entering
society, man is not free and is changed, externally and internally. Rousseau claims that nature is
a man s true state before being negatively influenced by outside forces. The quote says that
people willingly make social contracts, in which they have agreed to live in a place that
governs the populace and limit their freedoms. But to Rousseau, this is something that doesn t
happen naturally. In his quote, Rousseau meant that man truly leads a free and unrestricted life
until he enters society and how he becomes civilized, but, in a sense, becomes a hypocrite and
doesn t listen to his conscience. He describes that a man is born inherently good but becomes
corrupt. However, as societal structures developed, people gave up their autonomy and free
will, and modern society interfered with people s ability to live freely in the state of nature.
Rousseau s idea was that it was madness for people to forfeit their natural freedom for a state in
which they lived without freedom. He argued that people should have the right to choose the
government and laws that rule them. He also said that people do not have to obey governments
that rule with force or governments that they have not chosen. By saying man is becoming
corrupt, it is meant that the man is [giving up] his essential manhood, his rights, and even his
duty as a human being. It is his personal judgement on whether people are being seen as overall
good. Rousseau believed once leaving nature, a man becomes corrupt once entering society and
experiencing social norms and corruption within the society. He loses free will and upon
realization, man will start living an artificial life. As man enters society, Rousseau describes as if
the man becomes a slave, yet the man was born free. He begins to bear several chains based off
of prejudice, caste, creed, and color set loose on him by society. These chains are implemented on
what people believe to be commonly and morally acceptable. The man begins to focus more on
being perfect rather than being true to themselves

Why Writing Is Important To Me
I do not think of myself as a very good writer. I feel that my writing is always scrambled, and
doesn t quite flow like it should. I do like to write however, if the subject interests me. I would
much rather write about a topic that I know a lot about, and care about. If I was to write a paper
about dragons, it most likely would not be written very well because I don t care about that
subject. I like to write because it is something that I think can be fun. It also is a great way to
express yourself in words. A memorable writingassignment would be the DAR paperthat I wrote in
fifth grade. DAR stands for Daughters of the American Revolution. DAR is a history writing
competition. You write about an assigned topic or time period and you make up a story that later
gets judged. One of the reasons that this specific writing assignment was so memorable to me is

main reasons that I think my writing assignments aren t very good is because they aren t very

strengths. Some of these would be that I can easily follow the rubric and can usually get a good

am a good writer, it will probably show in my writing pieces. I would also like to work on showing
voice in my papers. Some of the goals that I have as a writer in my life would be to learn to like my

under conditions of a neutral pH because the cytoplasm of most cells has a pH of about seven and

Crime Affects Crime
My research question is How does committing crimes affect a person s physical health and do
different crimes affect physical health more or less? It is important to the criminal justice system to
determine how much crime actually affects the health of an offender. Assuming that committing
crimes causes stress to the individual, stress can show negative side effects on the human body that
can be physical or mental. By identifying any health problems created by committing crimes, one
could potentially deter potential criminals. In the criminal justicesystem in the United States, there
currently is not much deterrence for criminals in regards to punishment. There is the potential to
use the risk of them affecting their health as a deterrent. It is also important to look at how different
crimes affect the physical health of an offender. For instance, a small crimesuch as shoplifting may
not cause as much stress as robbery. Looking into the potential for higher stress levels in certain
crimes could lead to offenders avoiding those crimes. If criminals stop committing the higher stress
crimes, it can help law enforcement and citizens focus on stopping the lesser crimes.
Although I could not find an article or experiment related to crime causing stress, I found the
opposite. Strain theory attempts to explain that stress causes crime. Agnew s general strain theory
is considered to be one of the most accurate theories in explaining crime. He argued that the stresses

The Morality Of Peer And File Sharing

The positive consequences of Game of Thrones piracy are not just limited to HBO and Time

The Reality Of Visual Culture
When talking about a simple image, what else do we know about Visual Culture? Well, have you
ever been on the internet? Of course you ve have. The internet is where modern Visual Culture
lives. Mostly through jokes, and these jokes online are usually called memes. Now what is a
meme? Well it originally comes noted from the book The Selfish Gene(1989) Where a British
scientist name Richard Dawkinsstated, a meme was A unit of cultural transmission. With the
understanding of a meme, what does it do? Well after watching the YouTube
video Visual Culture
Online (PBS, 2011) they spoked of one person making one funny Photoshop of a picture of Leo
walking, someone else would like to contribute and try to make a funnier version, and then you end
up having a large body of these Leo photos all over the internet. Memes are something that brings
people together and makes them want to collaborate.
With memes being the funny side of Visual Culture, what about the video side? Visual Culture is
in many forms of media, such as movies, TV Show, and even an internet video. The best thing that
represents Visual Culture as a video form would be YouTube. YouTube is a website where you can
upload any video you like. Jeff Bullas a researcher for jeffbullas.com, found that 60 hours of videos
are uploaded every minute, or one hour of video is uploaded to YouTube every second. Over 4

Glen Johnson, Montell Griffin and Eric Harding, all on his way to a world title and a spot on

Comparing Mary Anne in Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong...
Comparing Mary Anne in Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong and Kurtz in Apocalypse Now
In 1979, Francis Coppola released a film that he said he hoped would give its audience a sense of
the horror, the madness, the sensuousness, and the moral dilemma of the Vietnam war (as quoted in
Hagen 230). His film, Apocalypse Now, based on Joseph Conrad s 1902 novel Heart of Darkness,
is the story of Captain Benjamin Willard s (Martin Sheen) journey to the interior of the jungle of
Southeastern Asia for the purpose of executing his orders to track down Colonel Walter E. Kurtz
(Marlon Brando). Once Kurtz is located, Willard is to terminate his command with extreme
prejudice because Kurtz has raised an army of deserters and natives, whom he ... Show more content

The Greenies report that a couple of times they almost saw her sliding through the shadows, but
she would never return from the jungle (O Brien 125). She was part of the land (125). Like Kurtz,
Mary Anne crosses the line by losing her self control to a primordial madness because of the forces
of the Vietnam environment.
By analyzing the similarities between Mary Anne and Kurtz, we will be able to get a better
understanding as to why O Brien chose the theme of transformation and what it can tell us about
his feelings for the Vietnam war. Initially, when we are introduced to both of the characters as
their converted selves, both are living in settings that reflect their psychological degeneration.
As Willard arrives at Kurtz s compound in the wilderness, he has equivalently stepped back into
an age of barbarism. Rotting corpses hang from the trees, flies buzz around the multitude of
sacrificial altars, half naked Cambodian tribesmen stand and stare, and one would have to be
careful not to trip over the severed heads that are scattered about the muddy jungle floor.
Similarly, Fossie is disgusted as he enters the Greenie s hootch to see the decayed head of a large
black leopard; strips of yellow brown skin dangled from the overhead rafters. And bones. Stacks
of bones all kinds (119). Like the natives, none of the Greenies move or speak, and the stench of
blood and scorched hair and excrement and ... moldering

Reasons To Join The Crusades
Chapter two There was a sheer number of members because of the many reasons and benefits to
join the Crusades. This only influenced everyone around them even more because of the
destruction they did. The Crusades were so feared and powerful because in most cases they
never gave mercy. In most of their battles they would kill anything that got in their way, even
christians were killed because the members of the Crusades thought that they were the enemies of
god. Marvin Perry describes in a detailed description how ruthless they were, It was impossible to
look upon the vast numbers of the slain without horror; everywhere lay fragments of humans
bodies, and the very ground was covered with the blood of the slain. It was not alone the spectacle
of headless bodies and mutilated limbs strewn in all directions that roused horror in all who looked
upon them. Still more dreadful was it to gaze upon the victors themselves, dripping with blood from
head to foot, an ominous sight which brought terror to all who mer them. It is reported that within
the Temple enclosure alone about ten thousand... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this didn t mean that they were merciful, for example one Jew was captured and led to
a church where the crusaders tied a rope around his neck and there they said You can still be
saved; will you change your faith? When he didn t cooperate, they cut off his neck. The Crusaders
were so brutal that they were thought to be just as guilty to God then other religions. For example
an abbot of Cluny wrote during the second crusade, What is the good of going to the end of the
world at great loss of men and money to fight the Saracens, when we permit among us other infidels
who are a thousand times more guilty towards Christ than the Mohammedans? He describes here
how the Mohammedans were a lot less guilty towards Christ then the Christians who were in the
Crusades themselves for killing innocent

Analysis Of The Poem The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight
Many characters in The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven show beneficial traits,
physically and mentally from telling their stories. The author of this book, Sherman Alexie,
portrays that the art of telling stories opened new avenues for native Indians to preserve or,
more or less perceive their historical and cultural traditions. One of the main characters, Thomas
Builds The Fire tells stories that had historical settings and viewpoints. They offered knowledge
on tribal insights and how Indians have experienced change over the years. Victor, the other
main character in the story also tells many stories about his past, but unlike Thomas Builds the
fire, his stories are more bleak and realistic. Storytelling helped show how the White people
treated Native Indians, and how they fared against each other. In one of the short stories The
Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire , the main character Thomas tells a very interesting story about
all of the native Indians past. Thomas closed his eyes and began to tell his story, It all started

Still, there was so much to fear on that day when Colonel George Wright took me and 799 of my

  • 2. The Repressions Of Women In Le Morte DArthur By Thomas Malory The impressions of women throughout history influenced the way authors depicted women in their works. The belief that women are the cause of men s problems dates back to the bible s first chapter. The chapter lead men to believe the ultimate fall of humanity was at the hands of a woman. Consequently, this belief has been carried from generations to generations throughout history. The legend of Morgan Le Fay changes behaviorally from evil and spiteful in Le Morte D Arthur by Thomas Malory to kind and nourishing in Avalon from Vita Merlin by Geoffrey of Monmouth because of the different notions of women throughout history. During the Middle Ages women went from being their father s daughters to their husband s wives to their children s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Certain individuals decided to change their beliefs. Some began to see women as nurturing creatures rather than the bane of all of man s existence. This idea reflects in the poem by Geoffrey of Monmouth, Avalon from the Vita Merlini . This poem tells the tale of a beautiful island where nine sisters live. The sisters are generous and kind to all who visit their home. The poem then shifts focus to Morgan Le Fay, almost bragging that she may cure sick bodies (Geoffrey of Monmouth). This differs from the Middle Age text greatly. Even the tone of the poem is light and airy in contrast to the dark and mysterious tone of the earlier story. The poem goes on to tell a story of Morgan Le Fay saving someone, explaining she saved a man that had gone into battle with her own honorable hand (Geoffrey of Monmouth). This man was her half brother Arthur, and whether the characters know of their relation is a mystery to the audience. In the poem Morgan Le Fay saves her brother; in the story she nearly kills him. It is clear the narrator of the poem admires Morgan Le Fay, as shown by the use of word honorable to describe her on many occasions. The depiction of the women in this story reflects how some people felt toward women in the Modern Ages, and once again turning life into art. Art imitates life in these two works. Alexis de Tocqueville, one of the greatest commentators on the American political tradition, viewed it through the lens of two related ideas: liberty and equality. These ideas, so eloquently framed by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence, have remained inextricably and uniquely conjoined in American political thought: equality is understood as the equal possession of natural rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. By considering American reflections on these core ideas over time in relation to constitutional principles, religion, and race this volume provides an especially insightful perspective for understanding our political tradition. Liberty refers to the freedom that individuals have whereas equality refers to treating all individuals in the same manner. EqualВ¬ity before the law is the natural state in a political society, but equality of goods and social life in general is unnatural, and would take a great amount of regulation and coercion to achieve and sustain. I define liberty as the absence of coercion, the individual s right to do whatever he chooses with his life and property as long as he does not directly harm others. USE QUOTE HERE Liberty and equality are interrelated. This is when one party enjoys liberty to engage in a particular activity, but the others are denied the same right. This results in a ... However, the Collie Entragian survival crew has bravery at all times. In the book Desperationby Stephen King, King s message is courage is a powerful tool. The main characters experience unimaginable torture and many hardships. However, they keep going and face their fears. David Carver was abducted with his family by Collie Entragian. He always has hope and is faithful; he believes it was his job to serve and love God. Throughout the novel, he uses this to motivate him. Within the first couple hours of being in Desperation, both his sister, father, and mother were murdered. Although this is immensely tough, he tried to prevent this from happening to others. For example, he risked his life to find another person. He stated, I can find him. He s close...I m supposed to find him (King 596). David was courageous in this moment because he knew the risks and still went out to find John Marinville. This action speaks volumes about David s character and the overall theme. To better understand this love story, one must realize that Tristan is a marshal hero who volunteers to take a battle against the King of Ireland, in order to redeem the people and the monarch of King Mark. It is fascinating therefore, when Iseult s mother entrusts Tristan with the potion of love that should only be shared between King Mark and Iseult. By this time, Tristan and Iseult have developed passion in each other, and the potion they would drink only enhances the chemistry that is already existent. To not drink the potion, which Tristan knows would cause Iseult to love him even more, is attempting to remain dishonest to his true self. Comparative Analysis of Adaptive Threshold Based Spectrum Sensing Techniques in Cognitive Radio Networks Abstract: In the last two decades, the number of wireless communication users and its applications increasing rapidly. With this rapid growth there exists spectrum scarcity. One of the best solutions to avoid spectrum scarcity is cognitive radio with its dynamic spectrum sensing. Cognitive radio is a promising technology, which is used to sense the unused spectrum in an appropriate manner. Various methods have been proposed in the past, such as energy detection, matched filterand so on [1 6 7]. Different techniques serve different purpose based on their advantages and disadvantages. In this paper, the author suggests an approach of dynamic threshold to increase the probability detection of spectrum sensing. Spectrum sensing using energy detection, matched filter detectors based on fixed threshold and dynamic threshold are simulated using MATLAB. The performance of energy detection, matched filter detector is compared by plotting probability detection versus signal to noise ratio graph. Most of the people there had been very free spirited and did whatever they wanted, hence how the fences had been forced down and couldn t stop free admission. Homosexuality was more accepting after Woodstock. People had realized that it didn t matter what sexuality you were and this was the start of a better society when it came to gay acceptance. • 31. Analysis Of Jean-Jacques Rousseau s The Origin Of Civil... French philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau says in his essay The Origin of Civil Society, man is not free, and everywhere he is in chains. He expresses in this essay on how upon entering society, man is not free and is changed, externally and internally. Rousseau claims that nature is a man s true state before being negatively influenced by outside forces. The quote says that people willingly make social contracts, in which they have agreed to live in a place that governs the populace and limit their freedoms. But to Rousseau, this is something that doesn t happen naturally. In his quote, Rousseau meant that man truly leads a free and unrestricted life until he enters society and how he becomes civilized, but, in a sense, becomes a hypocrite and doesn t listen to his conscience. He describes that a man is born inherently good but becomes corrupt. However, as societal structures developed, people gave up their autonomy and free will, and modern society interfered with people s ability to live freely in the state of nature. Rousseau s idea was that it was madness for people to forfeit their natural freedom for a state in which they lived without freedom. He argued that people should have the right to choose the government and laws that rule them. He also said that people do not have to obey governments that rule with force or governments that they have not chosen. By saying man is becoming corrupt, it is meant that the man is [giving up] his essential manhood, his rights, and even his duty as a human being. It is his personal judgement on whether people are being seen as overall good. Rousseau believed once leaving nature, a man becomes corrupt once entering society and experiencing social norms and corruption within the society. He loses free will and upon realization, man will start living an artificial life. As man enters society, Rousseau describes as if the man becomes a slave, yet the man was born free. He begins to bear several chains based off of prejudice, caste, creed, and color set loose on him by society. These chains are implemented on what people believe to be commonly and morally acceptable. The man begins to focus more on being perfect rather than being true to themselves ... • 35. Crime Affects Crime My research question is How does committing crimes affect a person s physical health and do different crimes affect physical health more or less? It is important to the criminal justice system to determine how much crime actually affects the health of an offender. Assuming that committing crimes causes stress to the individual, stress can show negative side effects on the human body that can be physical or mental. By identifying any health problems created by committing crimes, one could potentially deter potential criminals. In the criminal justicesystem in the United States, there currently is not much deterrence for criminals in regards to punishment. There is the potential to use the risk of them affecting their health as a deterrent. It is also important to look at how different crimes affect the physical health of an offender. For instance, a small crimesuch as shoplifting may not cause as much stress as robbery. Looking into the potential for higher stress levels in certain crimes could lead to offenders avoiding those crimes. If criminals stop committing the higher stress crimes, it can help law enforcement and citizens focus on stopping the lesser crimes.
