Cherubism is a genetic condition characterized by bilateral cyst-like radiolucent lesions that begin in the third molar-ramus area of the mandible and extend posteriorly and anteriorly and occasionally into the condyle and maxilla. It causes enlargement of the jaws while the cortex remains intact and can encroach on the maxillary sinuses, displace developing teeth, and cause early exfoliation of deciduous teeth.
