Comparison Between Routine Activities Theory And
Rational...
Today s class discussion was about Rational Theories, which states that individuals
make reasonable decisions and apply them to their daily life activities. Individual
make these decisions based on their best self interest. The major points of the
Rational Theory are: Routine Activities Theory, Lifestyle Theory and Rational
Choice Perspective. Routine activities theory states that the circumstances of an
individual s life is mainly decided by the daily pattern of social interaction or
activities. Therefore, depending on these routine activities criminal offenses could
ascend or descent (Williams and McShane, 2013, p. 238). Accordingly, routine
activities theory is basically the type of routine a person keeps, based on his/her
circumstances. Since everyone has different routine activities, some individuals will
be more prone to criminal attacks such as robbery, rape, murder, etc. as discussed in
class. For instance, a young woman that works until 1 o clock at night, and walks
home in the dark is more vulnerable to be rob or sexual assaulted.... Show more

They state that depending on a person s daily routine whether work or social
activities, victimization rate differentiate. (as cited in Williams and McShane, 2013,
p. 239). For example, people that have a higher status in society are at lower risk of
victimization because they engage in less routine activities and the places they hang
around are saved. However, deprived individuals have a higher risk of being
victimized due to the environment and the interactions with criminals, as well as, the
places they frequent are unsafe, as talked over in
The Role Of Subgenre In American Horror Films
Hollywood, more than any other film industry, deserves to be attributed with the
creation of the horror genre. Even though it is not responsible for the first attempts
at horror movies, it certainly shaped the genre into what it is today and made it
accessible to global audiences. The appearance of horror movies happens in cycles
with a distinct pattern that repeats itself a movie appears, delivers thrills to the
audience, and suddenly, due to low production costs, sequels and remakes are made,
or original films based on the same formula. This way, different subgenres are
produced. Eventually, the market becomes saturated and the subgenre dies. As the
1980s came to a close, the American horror filmseemed locked into an endless loop
of formulaic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the classics seem to have fallen prey to the greedy hands of the movie
industry in hopes of collecting profit. A sequel to George A. Romeros Night of the
Living Dead was made in 2004, in 2007 Rob Zombie directed his version of John
Carpenter s Halloween, Gus Van Sant directed the remake of Hitchcock s Psycho
and The Saw franchise is due to get its eighth sequel released in 2017. Hantke calls
this the symptom of the crisis of contemporary American horror film (6). Some of
these films did very well at the box office but most of them didn t, largely due to
the loss of originality and the ability to surprise and shock, which stands at the
basis of every successful horror film. The next step for the challenged horror
industry was the process of transnationalization searching for inspiration outside
familiar borders, more specifically turning to East Asia. The initial phase of J
horror s rising popularity in the United States, for example, was largely driven by a
search, on the part of hardcore fans, for more exotic and extreme forms of horror
film. (Hantke 12) However, Hantke states that this is not an isolated phenomenon,
since Hollywood has always thrived

The Need For A Job For American Society
The need for a job in American society is vital and not having one in today s
society can cause major financial problems for an individual or a whole family. An
average American, typically works eight hour shifts and sometimes even put in
overtime to meet their needs. After an exhausting day at work, people tend to get
hungry and the infamous question of what to eat begins to occupy every inner
thought. Some are not only wondering what they should eat for dinner, but most of
these workers also have a family to come home to and feed. People come home
tired, lacking motivation to do anything, and the thought of having to prepare dinner
for themselves or their family sounds discouraging. On the way home from work,
everyone is bound to see a fast foodrestaurant of some sort, waiting for potential
consumers in the street corner, illuminated by an infamous neon sign. The temptation
to stop by and grab a quick meal is overwhelming, but there is always one jumbled up
thought that suggests preparing a meal at home would be wiser. The typical
American citizen has to fight a mental battle on deciding where they should take their
health and how it will benefit them in the long run. Though most individuals who
visit these fast food establishments can care less about the nutritionvalue behind their
favorite meals, it is an important component to consider when buying at these places.
With working from nine to five and coming home with the potential to eat everything
in sight, if it
Advantages Of Liberalism
Different theoretical underpinning have governed the world and have given rise to
different types of policies, ranging from fiscal policies to monetary policies. The
most popular of these theories is Marxism, neo liberalism and what this easy is
going to be about which is Liberalism. It will be looking at unpacking the main
ideological thinking behind Liberalismthen linking the ideology to housing
Production systems. Then it will put forward the critiques that have been discovered
and debated upon in liberalism before concluding with the main arguments points and
how they could be implemented. Finally it will conclude by a short comparison to the
South African context.

Self help housing is in simpler terms a group or community of people coming
together and pulling resources in order to satisfy their housing needs. This a key
production system in terms of housing in a liberalist point of thinking because in first
looks at the individual needs of a person. Liberalism (as mentioned previously)
believes in individualism and when housing is approached using that way of thought
a lot can be achieved, more than just building a shelter. In SHH, when a group of
individuals are building a house for themselves they don t build homogenous houses
but the house that are built are built to the individual family s need because the
dwellers of that particular house are fully involved in the building of their house.
Therefor the imperfections and deficiencies found within those houses that are build
can be tolerated as the owner or occupier of that particular dwelling was involved in
the designing and construction of that dwelling. The only thing that is required from
the government is providing key infrastructure, social facilities, health amenities,
education amenities and other services that the public themselves cannot
The Indian Python
The Indian Python is an arboreal snake, commonly found slithering through the
jungles, specifically trees of the East Indies. Having the ability to grow to a length
of about 20 feet, the Python Molurus is no small predator, however, ironically,
these massive creatures may not be so easy to be seen. As snakes and reptiles are
famous for being able to camouflage themselves, these Pythons are able to hide in
plain sight, and along with that are absolutely able to prey on creatures with ease.
The Pythons color patterns are along the lines of white and yellow with spotted
patterns that range from certain tans and grays to brown. These colors and patterns
generally range and very from place to place depending on where they live. Certain
specimen from the of Western Ghats and Assam usually contain a darker shade, while
those living near the Deccan Plateauand East Coast typically contain lighter shades.
The Indian Pythoncontains a very carnivorous diet which includes mammals, birds
and reptiles arbitrarily, but seem to favorite mammals. The Python moves so
quickly slithering from head to tail and strike with ready fangs. Most living prey is
strangled by constriction and slain in that manner. It doesn t take much of the
Pythons strength in order to kill. The kill is usually unable to breathe, and at some
point submits to the snakes grip and is swallowed whole. Once a rather large meal is
consumed, the snakeis rather not fond of moving, because if it is absolutely
necessary to do
Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
According to Lord of the Flies is still a Blueprint for Savagery by Eleanor
Learmonth and Jenny Tabakoff, the words I m afraid. Of us first appeared in
Golding s novel 60 years ago. Lord of the Flies by William Golding follows a group
of schoolboys trapped on an island after a plane crash during a world war. At the
beginning, they celebrate as they have total autonomy as there are no adults around.
They attempt to establish a civilization but when order collapses, they go on a
journey from civilization to savagery. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Jack
mostly represents id, Ralph mostly represents ego, and Piggy mostly represents
superego.
According to Sigmund Freud s Division of the Mind: Id, Ego, and Superego by
David B. Stevenson, Sigmund Freud s personality theory is composed of the id,
ego, and superego. Stevenson explains that the id holds desires and urges and that
it is ruled by the pleasure principle, demanding satisfaction now, regardless of
circumstances and possible undesirable effects . If the desires and urges of the id
aren t satisfied then the self will feel nervous or anxious. The ego fulfills the
desires of the id in a socially acceptable method in the world. The superego bases
decisions on moral values, based on what is right or wrong. Stevenson also mentions
that The superego uses guilt and self reproach as its primary means of enforcement
for...rules . The ego and superego may reach the same decision on something however

Tornado Research Papers
Tornados are an extremely interesting phenomenon. These natural disasters need a
series of very precise activities to occur in order to materialize. For a tornado to
form, it needs the same events as in a thunderstorm to occur. First a wind shear needs
to take place; this is when two opposing gusts of windon different levels make a
horizontal vortex. One section of the vortex will rise because of the buoyant warm
air, creating a storm. After this a supercell can form; a supercell happens when
upper level wind causes the storm to spin. The supercell can grow very large as
long as warm air continues to be sucked through the vortex away from the cool air. In
the picture to the left, the supercell is above the funnel like shape of the tornado....

Finally for the funnel shape of the tornado to occur, the wind traveling towards the
ground causes a rotation that generates a funnel cloud near the ground.Tornado
alley is an area in the US where tornadoes spawn far more than anywhere else in the
world. This area extends from North Dakota straight down to Texas. The main
reason tornadoes occur here more than other places, is because topography in this
central US area consists of open plains and fields. During summer the plains tend to
get very hot and this warm air rises to meet with cool air creating conditions ideal
for storms. Tornadoes usually last around ten minutes; larger and stronger tornadoes
can linger up to thirty minutes. Wind speeds during tornadoes reach up to three
hundred miles per hour, but most tornadoes can travel at speeds of around one
hundred miles per hour. Tornadoes typically cover and span a few miles. The speeds
they move are devastating and strong enough to rip houses out of their foundations.
At least 60 people in the US are killed
Characteristics And Applications Of Types Of Specialty...
1. Introduction
With the continuous improvement of modern architectural functions, higher
requirements of concrete have been put forward. Under the circumstance of high
technology, concrete technology is developed towards high strength, high workability
and high durability. Since the 1990s, along with a variety of new cementitious
materials, mineral admixtures, superplasticizer and the new development and
application of other additives, the production of concrete with good workability,
excellent mechanical properties and also high durability can become a reality
(Laskar, 2011). This new type of concrete is called high performance concrete (HPC).
Compared to the conventional concrete, HPC has high strength, high resistance and
high durability. Therefore, high performance concrete is the inevitable result of the
development of modern concrete technology.
The main purpose of this study is to indicate the performance characteristics and
applications of two typical types of specialty concretes: watertight concrete (WC)
and self compacting concrete (SCC). Each of the case study will discuss, first, the
mix design procedures and the performance characteristics compared to ordinary
concrete; second, the application of each specialty concrete; last, the example of the
utilisation of waste materials in each specialty concrete.
2. Watertight concrete (WC)
Watertight concrete is different from the ordinary one and is developed from the
conventional one. Specifically, normal concrete
History Of The Quebec Act
The Quebec act was an act established in 1774. The act of Quebec was passed by
the British Parliament to institute a permanent administration in Canada replacing the
temporary government created at the time of the Proclamation of 1763. With this
act the British had high hopes of restoring the French form of Civil law. The British
hoped to win over the French Canadians by giving them more land and rights such
as to use of their own laws and freedom to practice their own religion. The Quebecact
can be described as an act used to make more effective provision for the Government
of the province of Quebec in North America. Of the many things, the British hoped to
achieve Expansion of territory to take over part of the Indian Reserve which was
happening around 1763, states to include what is now southern Ontario, Illinois,

act after a long Seven Year war, including the Treaty of Paris around 1763, many
former French subjects became British subjects. With the many issues the British
were having in the 13 Colonies Stamp Act, Declaratory Act, Regulator Movement,
etc. the British feared that the French in Canada would support the colonists in the 13
Colonies. Therefore, leading to the Quebec Act which ultimately became what can be
considered a preventative measure: to protect the peace, knowing if the French
Canadians were happy and felt included in the new government, The French

Postal Service Persuasive Essay
Over the past decade the United States Postal Services have been losing customers
ever since the internet has been getting popular over the years. People around the
world think that it should be restructured to keep up with today s era. I say
otherwise, mailing companies such as the USPS and US postal services shouldn t
be restructured to keep up with today s society. The mailing business have many
people that work hard everyday to go deliver mailto people s homes, there are people
who still want their mail to be delivered to them. My parent is in this business and
every morning he hopes to get a call from the USPS to tell him if he goes to work
that day so he can earn money to help support his family. It s essential for people,
furthermore it has history behind it, so we shouldn t change anything.

In addition this source also states that there are people without technology even
though the majority of people are connected to the internet, those people still have
meaningful things to deliver over the mail which there is more reason why the
USPS still is useful for today s society. People still want their mail to be delivered
to them since they have personal mail being delivered to them from a special
someone. ( Source F ) For example, E mail is fast and simple, but to me an old
fashioned, handwritten letter has value in this speed obsessed world. Getting a letter
from someone you hold dear who sends you a heart warming letter means that they
took their time to write with their own hands, and receiving it means something
special. The USPS helps those people that value those letters mailing to others since
letters have more meaning than simple

Effects Of World War One On Europe
Kegan Navarre Mrs.Martinez ELA IV 4th Hour May 2, 2016 The Effects of World
War One on Europe In the early twentieth century, the most powerful nations in the
world were preparing for war with a heightened sense of national pride. Germany,
eager to go to war, created arguably the greatest military in the world at the time.
This heightened militarism in Germany had two major reactions from other world
powers. The first was to build up their respective militaries in order to prepare for a
war if it became necessary. The second was to create a system of alliances in case
they were attacked. The series of alliances led to the formation of two powerful
groups. The first was known as the Central Powers consisting of Germany,
Bulgaria, Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. The second was the Allied
Powers which included England, France, Russia, and Italy. Then on June 28,
1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip.
After the assassination, Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia. The series of
alliances created prior to the assassination led to many European countries declaring
war on one another in order to protect their allies. Because of imperialism of Africa
in the ninteenth century and a growing US involvement in European affairs, the war
spread throughout the entire world. The Great War, later named World War One
would go on for four long years with roughly twenty million casualties before a cease
fire in 1918. On June 28, 1919
Character Analysis Of Enron
Enron was an educational production about the infamous business scandal of the
American energy corporation. Enron was originally written by Lucy Prebble,
directed by Rodney Lee Rodgers, and produced by the College of Charleston s
Department of Theatre and Dance. An interesting story enfolds about the tremendous
scandal during the 2000 s which led to the inevitable downfall of the company and
leader, Jeffery Skilling. Rodgers emphasized the corruption of money and the
plummet of a once powerful man, Jeffery Skilling, Enronrequired some level of
knowledge about the historical scandal and the stock market. The audience endured
three hours of this business production. With little knowledge or interest in business
and corporations, I personally struggled to connect with the cast and stay in touch
with the plot because of the many distractions dancing about the stage. However, the
acting, set design, and the direction produced a wonderful, informative production.
Primarily, the cast, overall, was hard to connect with on a deeper level. The actress
who particularly stood out from the rest was Hayden Haring as Claudia Roe. She
showcased a powerful, intelligent woman who often stayed in the shadows due to
patriarchy. As a female in society today, this character was the only one I truly felt
pity. On the other hand, Skilling;s daughter played by Erin Cooper made me
increasingly uncomfortable. She was overly sexualized to the audience when the
character is supposed to pu ll the
`` Bioterrorism, Embryonic Stem Cells, And Frankenstein
By...
As Mankind continues to advance it is pursuit of knowledge, it is faced with myriad
dilemmas, particularly in the cases of cloning, stem cell experimentation, and the
genetic sequencing of viruses and pathogens. The academic article Bioterrorism,
Embryonic Stem Cells, and Frankenstein written by Patrick Guinan, discusses the
morality and potential hubris of sciences continued exploration of seemingly
forbidden areas, as well as humanities identity and potential desire to achieve
knowledge to rival God. Guinan s research aims to explore, question, and ultimately
bring light to the potential issues that may arise from such pursuits. This research
raises several questions, as well as causes of concern, which will all be addressed in
this essay. The author of this article makes use of intelligent analysis, evidence from
ages both recent and ancient, and well thought out discourse, in order to cause readers
to consider just what ethics and morality is to science, as well as what it is to our
identity as humanity as a whole. It is important to understand the references to
history that the author uses, in order to properly read and understand this articles
intentions. First the author references the anthraxattack carried out by terrorists in
2001. These attacks consisted of letters with anthrax spores inside of them, which
were then mailed different news offices and the offices of two U.S. Senators. The
attacks killed five people and infected nearly 20 others. Guinan s

corner of my eye I see something shiny. I ignore this object and focus on the kill.
I m trailing the jackal, not far behind him, and I lunge forward and sink my fangs
in his gluteus maximus and dig my claws into him lower back. Then I hear a

I knew exactly what, he was a poacher. I saw the monkey that feel from earlier and

cages and when I got close to the monkey s cage I rammed it. It fell and broke open
letting the monkey free.
Then I hear one of the poachers yell and that s when I pick up the monkey and run.
I ran as fast as I could, but I could still hear the hunters trailing behind me. I dodge,
weave, duck, and slide and try to make sure the monkey was in my mouth the whole
way. I kept running till I couldn t hear them anymore and put the monkey down. It

I let out a mighty roar and knew I had to jump or I would be a rug. I plunge into the
rapid waterfalls hoping I don t hit the jagged rocks below. SPLASH! I pop my head
out of the freezing

There I see a lone chicken wearing a shiny hat. I sneak up on it and jump on the
surprised bird.
Examples Of Foil Characters In Much Ado About Nothing
Foil. A character that possesses traits that emphasize distinctive characteristics and
qualities of a different character. For example, William Shakespeare uses foil
characters such as Don John, a illegitimate brother to the prince of Aragon, Don
Pedro, in Much Ado About Nothing. In the play, Don Pedro arranged Claudio and
Hero s wedding while Don John tries to destroy it. Seeing that, Don John and Don
Pedro are foil characters helps clarify the meaning of the play; deception can be
hurtful or helpful if used with the appropriate intentions. To begin with, Don Pedro
is a gracious and selfless person that will do anything to make others happy. In fact,
when Claudio confesses his love for Hero, Don Pedro compassionately says this:
If thou dost love fair Hero, cherish it, and I will break with her and her father... I
will assume thy part in some disguise and tell fair Hero I am Claudio... and the
conclusion is, she shall be thine. (13)
Don Pedro has sympathy for Claudio and whole heartedly gives up an opportunity
to be with a wife for a friend. Furthermore, Don Pedro shows no signs of mischief and
wishes the best for all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Don John wants everyone miserable just like he is. Don John even says, I cannot
hide what I am... born under Saturn... a plain dealing villain (Shakespeare 15)
while talking to Conrad, a friend. Don John clearly states that he is melancholy
and is a villain. This means that because he is sad he wants others to be also
making him a villain. In addition, after hearing that Don Pedro is wooing Hero for

The Pine Is The Oldest Living Organism On The Planet
Growing in only six states the bristlecone pine is the oldest living organism on the
planet. At 4,765 years old the Methuselah is the oldest documented living
bristlecone there is, being almost 1,000 years older than its counterparts of the
species. The age of this tree can be determined by the amount of rings that are found
when the inner truck is exposed. There is where the truth of the extraordinary tree
and its undeniable ability to outlive all other organisms lies. The bristlecone having
the ability to outlive all other organisms can be questioned but instead of asking how
it lives so long it should be questioned on the reasons for its lengthy pace to die.
The bristlecone pine is known to grow in the White Mountains of eastern California.
In that area conditions are not most desirable and ideal for plants to grow, however
the bristlecone has managed to withstand the harsh conditions and surpass the hands
of time. The White Mountains are an area that experiences short summers with a
season for growing only being measured at several weeks. These mountains also
adhere to strong dry winds that travel against rocky souls. These type of conditions
cause any rain water that may fall to either drain off to fast for the plant to absorb or
the water to just evaporate (Matthews, M). With such harsh conditions it is amazing
that the bristlecone is still standing as the oldest living organism, unless it is because
of these harsh conditions that the tree has such longevity.

American Identity In No-No Boy
After WWII ended in 1945, xenophobia amongst the white populace, coupled with an
inflexible definition of who or what represented American ness , prevented Asian
Americans from claiming an American identity. Alongside this exclusion, the post
war period also witnessed the assertion of American identity formed by culture and
family in the Issei and Nisei community. This essay will argue that through Ichiro
Yamada s struggle to integrate, Okada s No No Boy represents the fracturing belief of
a monoracial American identity and the cultural instability found within the narrative.
John Okada s No No Boy adopts an allegoric strategy in order to foreground the
attitudes and lives the Issei and Nisei shaped during their internment and sometimes
incarceration, which continued after the war. Moreover, as the novel progresses,
Okada examines characters such as Ichiro Yamada, who face the cultural conflicts and
form the possibility of an elusive insinuation of promise of belonging in post war
America (221). Additionally, the racial slurs and violent attacks by other Japanese
and non Japanese Americans that befall him highlight the divisions within American
society. A close reading for the free indirect discourse and allegory shows how John
Okada uses these literary strategies to suggest the disturbance of American identity.
Ichiro Yamada s refusal to serve in the U.S. Army presents the parental and cultural
aspects that are influenced by the belief of a monoracial American identity. During
the internment, the government administered a Loyalty Questionnaire to all Japanese
internees. To Ichiro, this either determined his rejection or acceptance into American
society. One major question was Question 27: willing to serve whenever ordered (10
/9 Lecture). Another major question was Question 28: swearing allegiance to the
United Statesand forswearing allegiance to the Emperor of Japan (10/9 Lecture).
By refusing to serve in the army, American society regarded him as a disloyal
American. However, in Mrs. Yamada s eyes, his refusal affirms her pride in calling
him her son (16). During this scene, free indirect discourse, or the presenting of
thoughts of a character as if it is from their POV via character s direct

Effects Of Alcoholism On The American Medical Association
Assignment: Literature review

Literature Review
Definition of alcoholism: According to the American medical association alcoholism
is a chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial and environmental factors influencing
development and manifestations.
Alcoholism has had a tremendous impact on the human condition and its relationship
to society.
The evolution of alcoholism, its behavior and quality of life impact will be
addressed; as well as treatments and fiscal impact in the literature review.
Alcoholism is a complex disorder with many pathways leading to its development.
Genetic and other biological factors are likely involved in the emergence of alcohol
dependence, along with cognitive, behavioral, temperament, psychological, and
sociocultural factors. Alcohol use patterns, including alcohol abuse and alcohol
dependence, are familial in nature (cf. Heath et al.,
1997; cf. Kendler, Heath, Neale, Kessler, Eaves, 1992; Hesselbrock, 1995). That is,
similar styles of alcohol use and the presence of alcoholism are often found within the
same family, running from parent to child and across multiple generations of
biologically related individuals.
However, many other traits or behaviors, such as religious or political affiliation,
which have little or no biological basis and, therefore, cannot be under heavy genetic
control, also run in families. While genetic and other biological factors cannot fully

Empathy Between Empathy And Empathy
The dictionary defines empathy as the feeling that you understand and share another
person s experiences and emotions , but personally I believe it is far more complex
(Merriam Webster). To me, empathy is more than the ability to understand another s
emotions or experiences, it is the ability to see beyond yourself and your world
without being prompted to. I Those who have the greatest amount of empathydo not
need to be told that there are people in the world that struggle and face sadness. It is
in their nature to know that it is this way and they feel for their fellow being, wanting
to help in some way. Throughout this semester I have come to understand that
empathy plays a key role in defining an individual, a community, and how the two
interact with each other. There is a distinct differences between those individuals that
have empathy and those that do not, it shows clearly in their attitude and actions
towards others. It is those individuals that have empathy that make up strong
communities, and empathy is arguably the most important part of a community
because it allows for a sense of understanding and togetherness. How empathic an
individual is is very important as to whether or not they are going to be a positive
contributing members of society. The ability to empathize with others is an
important life skill. People who are empathic are better received by others, they have
strong people skills, and they have a better character overall. Empathy lends itself to

Comparing Othello s Jealousy In The Film O
The modernised basketball film O translates William Shakespeare s tragedy script
Othello into a high school teen drama. The film gets its individuality and power from
the fact that its plot, themes, motivations and actions of its characters are a modern
comparative to the seventeenth century play. The director and writer of the 2001 film
O have produced a near identical productions, all while adding a more modern
twist to the context of a high school violence. Every wondered why modernized
versions of Shakespeare s plays are so successful? It s because the writers and
directors take the work of Shakespeare s Elizabethan era plays and adapt their
meanings, plot and values for a modern audience to appreciate. Jealousy, woman and

in the Elizabethan era the ideologies they had towards woman were that they
belonged to their husbands and fathers, woman were submissive, woman were
objects and were to be kept and controlled, woman didn t have a voice to speak in

ideologies in the Elizabethan era, Desdemona rebels against her father and loves a
man of a lower rank, Emilia challenges the dominant man by questioning her
husband, she also defies her husband Iago by telling the truth about the

allowing Othello to murder her by being submissive. Quote/Evidence In the film O

Resembling the play Othello Desdemona gives into her husband when he murders

powerless in society and the white male is dominant, woman have no voice, domestic
violence is acceptable by the dominant male, woman are sexual objects and are to be

Analysis Of `` Fences `` By August Wilson
A family by definition is any group of individuals living together under a common
roof. However, it does happen that sometimes a certain member of the family
decides to forget what it means to be part of a family. August Wilson s Fences
portrays extremely well what happens when a member of the family decides to forget
his or her duties. The use of metaphors and symbols throughout the playsuch as
baseball and fences, illustrate exactly why Troy Maxson as a family man was
destined for disappointment. Rose, Troy s wife in the playwas the obvious voice of
reason between the two; all she wanted was an interrupted happy family life. The
fences that she put up were not physical fences but rather emotional and
psychological ones used to keep her family in line. These fences were made very
clear to both the reader and the other characters in the play. For example when
Bono (Troy s best friend) is questioning Troy s commitment to Rose he said, Some
people build fences to keep people out... and others build fences to keep people in.
Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you. (898). This excerpt perfectly
described the different values shared between Rose and Troy but is also a common
generalization of gender roles in most family. The only fence Rose ever set up for
Troy was one of loyalty and commitment. She believed in the strength in numbers
whilst Troy strongly believed in the power of individuality. Troy on the other hand
had a completely different approach when it

Academic Advising
Academic Advisors have been needed for as long as there have been higher education
institutions. America established its first collegiate institutions in the eighteenth
century. It was during the nineteenth century Faculty within specialized curricula
took charge of guiding students to the classes they needed (Gillespie, 2003). Today,
the field of academic advising encompasses all of those same needs from the
nineteenth century and more. The needs of students have changed and expanded
drastically from when America s first colleges were established. It is not uncommon
for an advisor to assist the student in not only selecting which classes they should
take but also helping them to determine what career they should have. Essentially that
advisor is taking on the responsibility of facilitating the planning of a student s next
four years and their next forty years as well.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Arthritis
PHYSICAL THERAPY AND ITS ROLE IN ARTHRITIS Daymara Nodarse
Florida National University Professor: Dr. Kelly Krenkel November 4, 2014
Arthritis and other such rheumatic conditions have been considered to be the
most common medical complain as well as one of the leading causes of disability
and activity limitation among the population of the United States. The rates of
arthritis diagnosis have been steadily increasing in the last 20 years. Based on
surveys and research it was determined that by the end of 1990, it was estimated
that almost 40 million people suffered from arthritis and/or were currently being
treated for it (MMWR, 2001). Further studies show that by the end of 2005, this
number had increased by almost 10 million people as reported by the National
Health Interview Survey (NHIS) and over 23 million had reported that although
they were not yet diagnosed they were dealing with chronic joint symptoms and
conditions (Atkinson, 2009). This increase indicates that approximately 800,000
people per year since 1990 have been diagnosed or treated for arthritis (MMWR).
The limitations of activities of daily living (ADLs) are one of the most common
aspects of those suffering from arthritis. It is estimated that out of over 70 million
people with arthritis, about 20 million (close to 30%) have debilitating symptoms
which may cause them decreased abilities to carry on daily activities. Arthritis has
many variations and although their prevalence is indicative of a
My Experience In Counselling
My first experience with counselling was when I was roughly 17 years old. Back
then I was a part of the people who believed in the myths surrounding counselling,
back then it was my last option but I can still look back and say that I took that
decision on my own and I was prepared to face resistance which I did, in the form of
my parents who thought that it was an option for people who had gone mad .
Overcoming these resistances I finally went ahead for counselling and to my absolute
disappointment, the sessionwas useless and at times even offensive to me. The
counsellor asked me my age and started telling a long list of problems I may be
facing. She didn t stop there and then asked me about my weight and any problems
that I may be having... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first of which are issues that are personal to me, I realise that there are
experiences in my past that may hinder me as a counsellor the most important of
which is my inability to maintain eye contact with another person which wasn t an
issue in the past years but in the counselling session might convey a very negative
impression to the client for they may interpret it as my disinterest. This issue has
prompted me to go to personal therapy and also has increased the relevance and
importance of personal therapy in my eyes. Through this experience I have also
realised how unresolved issues in the past can impact the counselling process with
or without you being aware about them. There are many areas that I need to work
on expect this and the major among them is my competence as a counsellor, I still
need to develop various professional skills that I will be required to employ in the
counselling session and that is something I believe I will gain from my course. The
most important thing that believe I need to work on are my own beliefs about
counselling, for a long time I didn t realise that despite being trained for becoming
a counsellor I never realised that even to me counselling seemed appropriate as the
last option, a choice you make when all else fails and also that with time things
will eventually get better and you don t need therapy to work through it. Both of
these beliefs seem wrong to be now that I have gained more objective knowledge
of counselling. Firstly, to keep counselling as a last resort the person is embracing
a very likely possibility that things would get worse then on rather than better and if
proper therapy is undertaken at the very beginning of a problem it will improve
things for the individual for definite and may also be more effective and efficient in
comparison to if you let it blow to proportion that may severely

Internal Locus Of Control Essay
The extent to which people believe they have power over events in their lives. A
person with an internal locus of control believes that he or she can influence events
and their outcomes, while someone with an external locus of locus of control blames
outside forces for everything. When it comes to me, I am more of an internal locus of
controlguy. I believe that, For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
For example, I work at WinCo Foods as a cashier, if I do my job with my full
attention and focus on what I do than I will not lose any money from my till and I
will not get fired. But, if I don t focus when I count money or if I miscode the
produce department number than I will get fired and that is all upon me because I
didn t do what I am supposed to do and get fired. At that situation, I believe that I am
the one who did mistake and because of that I got fired, and I am not the kind of
person who blame the situation or the person that they didn t return the money when I

The Good Shepherd is a fascinating, adult film. It is an adult film not merely
because of its high rating but because it depicts the difficult and problematic

supposedly based on an authentic CIA intelligence officer who was so paranoid and
secretive that few in the
CIA knew what he may have looked liked. Nevertheless, in the world of espionage,
where deception must often be necessary, being distrustful must be just part of the
job (Chapman and
Robert 210).
However, not all the employees of the Central Intelligence Agency resemble Edward
Wilson. At the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, all employees seem like
normal people having a normal day at their offices. Most of the workers are actually
analysts and not operatives
(Chapman and Robert 210). However, it strikes me that, if I am to assume that
Edward Wilson is a model CIA employee, The Good Shepherd may be furthering a
clichГ©.

Important lesson learned from the Film
The most essential lesson I learn from the film is that knowing the truth is important
because the truth always sets you free. Furthermore, the film teaches that deception
will always lead to imprisonment but the truth always leads to freedom. According to

Moreover, according to John Owen, JetBlue had prepared the initial registration
statement with security and exchange commission (SEC) for the IPO on September
11, 2001. However, based on the September 11 attacks, they delayed IPO before it
came into force. In fact, not only the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, but
several events happened negatively affected the global economy during the period of
going public for JetBlue. For example, the contagion of bird flu was quite severe
during taking flights, which definitely influenced the demand of flights. The
increasing oil price also raised the basic cost in any transportation industry. Another
negative condition could be the economic downturn, including crash of the dot com
bubble and financial crisis in Asia. From this point

Thematic Paper on the Gospels The three synoptic gospels are almost indifferent in
relation to the major themes of concern in the bible. The only different gospel book
on how the themes are presented is the book of John. One of the major themes of
concern in the gospel books is about the Kingdom of God which is similarly
referred to as the Kingdom of Heaven . The gospel writers present how the kingdom
of god is like through the stories of Jesus Christ. Statements in the gospels affirm that
the kingdom of god is there with the people, according to Jesus teachings and that the
kingdom of god is also to come again with the second coming of Christ s coming.
Theologists therefore came up with schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Mark addresses his message to the romans. The message in the gospel of mark aims at
encouraging romans who had been subjected to tribulations. Mark underscores the
action of jesus. Mark also identifies jesus as the son of godwho hs come to fulfill
the will of god. Messianic secret is one of the major themes in the gospel of mark.
According to the gospel, jesus secretive nature is revealed. Jesus teaches his
disciples in secret. He performs miracles of healing to many and commands the
healed persons to tell anyone not about their miraculous healings. Jesus even
silences the demons that identify him. The gospel of luke talks about salvation as
the main aspect of inheriting the kingdom of god. The gospel asserts further that
the salvation spreads across the universe and its creatures. The kingdom of god is
purportedly shown to be emanating in the latter heavens and the earth as a whole.
The kingdom of god is shown to have started in the days of jesus ministry which
were impacted by the power of the kingdom of god. The message in the gospel
shows that initially people experienced a radical and transforming process of
salvation. Mark also emphasizes on the death of jesus as it is in the other gospels.
The death of jesus and its significance is seen to be a common theme in all the four
gospels. Mark does the same by focusing on the death and return of jesus in his
second coming to the sinfull generation in place. He suggests
Essay about Mentoring
Managing People Individual Assessment
Managing Mentoring
With the development of the more organic and less formal organisational structures
the role of mentors has shifted with these changes. Unlike previously where mentors
where seen as formal trainers who taught newcomers the processes and got them
acquainted with the cultures and the systems within the organisation. Which required
good interpersonal skills and a good knowledge of the activity or tasks the mentee
would have to undertake, and be able to effectively relay or demonstrate the tasks or
activities to the mentee. As opposed to more recently where a mentor would have to
be more of an emotional counselor and demonstrate more skills than were
traditionally required from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accompanied with the current shift towards more organic organisation structures and
more emphasis on the learning organisation, mentoring provides a more all round
experience to the mentees by getting them confident with their role with the
organisation. It also improves communication throughout the organisation by
allowing mentees to give feedback and learn in a not so formal fashion which helps
people feel more relaxed and develops the formal and informal culture of the
organisation.
From the organisations standpoint mentoring is a cost effective way of training and
developing new staff, and it helps retain existing staff by giving them more
responsibility. It is argued that with the underlying causes behind facilitated
mentoring lying in cost effectiveness, does this underlying tenet prevent a real
chemistry existing between the mentor and the mentee.
This is not necessarily the case in all organisations, the Metropolitan police force (a
non profit organisation) have recognised the need for mentoring and have
incorporated it both internally and externally to assist them in their day to day work.
The Metropolitan Police have started a mentoring scheme for young ethnic officers
by pairing them with a mentor from the same background, to help them get prepared
for the job and also to act as counselors and to deal with any reservations they may
have about joining the force. This type of mentoring scheme is based more around

What country other than the U.S contains a political and social status, government,
and origin?
Located on the coast of the Balkan peninsula and lining the Adriatic Sea, Albania is a
country known for its clear water beaches and fresh cuisine. It has a population of
about three million people who represent themselves through the double headed
eagle, a national emblem. Also represented through bold colors of red and black,
Albania is often only once or twice mentioned in history books. With a land area
slightly smaller than Maryland, and the capital city of Tirana, the country thrives in
both history and culture. This year makes the 105th anniversary of Albania s
independence from the Ottoman empire, and its refounding as a lost nation.
Throughout its history Albania has mended to the constant changes in Europe.
Albania is a country whose origin dates back to ancient civilizations, has undergone
strict political leaders, a variety of governments and empires, idolizes national heroes,
and with open borders, continues to attract tourists.
Albania s origin has a complicated history, which has scarcely been recorded.
Although, it has been debated that the Albanian race has descended from the ancient
Illyrians, and many Albanians think the same. This is the farthest back anyone has
been able to record the origin of the Albanian civilization, tracing it back to about the
end of the bronze age. The Illyrians were Indo Europeans tribesman who appeared in
the western part of the Balkan peninsula about 1000 B.C, a period coinciding with ...

Islamic and Middle East World Conflicts
Which current conflict in the Middle East and Islamic world stands as the biggest
constraint to peace in the region? Discuss with reference to at least two conflicts.
Historically, there have been many problems in the Middle East due to foreign
occupation. Middle East has always been hot and it is still hot. However, there
seems to be no end to the fire. There have been a lot of peace talk in the region, but
the conflicts still is still unresolved. In this paper, I will discuss the top three
conflicts in the Middle East that stands as the biggest constraint to peace in the
region. First conflict is the conflict between two islamistgroup Hamas and Fatah,
second conflict is the Arab Israeli conflict, and finally Syrian civil War.
The Arab Israel conflict started over a land. Both Palestinian Arabs and Israeli wanted
the right to the same land. During the WW II Britain promised both sides a state in
Palestine. After the war, the British Empire gained control of Palestine. The British
mandate opened Jewish immigration into Palestine. Arab Palestinian population felt
threatened by increase of few population and fights broke out on both side. The rise
of Hitler and Zionist activities also contributed to the increase of Jewish immigration
to Palestine and conflict grew.
In 1947, the united nation intervenes by giving 56 percent of the territory of
Palestinian to the Jews even though they made up two thirds of the population. Arabs
rejected the UN plan for Palestinian because the
Analysis Of Eden Falls
SUBTITLE FADE IN: 17 YEARS AGO
EXT. EDEN FALLS ESTABLISHING DAY
On a grey day, black clouds begin to RAIN. A thunderclap snaps as lightning shatters
the morose sky.
CAMERA REVEALS Eden Falls, an unassuming, forgetful town in the Central
California.
AIREAL SHOT OF EDEN FALLS
The homes and building of a town, the only high school, churches, a funeral home,
tiny downtown, a minuscule police station, fire station, library, downtown, the pet
food factory and finally an abandoned baseball diamond.
ON A HOUSE THAT RESEMBLES A CASTLE
On the edge of town, in a withdrawn area, high on a hill sits what appears to be a
Victorian house that reveals a castle. Built in the 1920s, the house has two turrets,
unsightly undersize windows, three spiked roofs, and a splayed base on each side.
An inharmonious spiked iron gate engulfs the six bedroom dwelling.
A NO TRESPASSING sign suspends on the front entrance. The warm California
summers, howling winters and rain storms have taken a toll on the structure near the
century mark. The paint peeling, many of the roof s shackles are gone astray, the
gutter s useless, debris dripping from the corners of the rooftop.
The once manicured lawn now a home for two feet high weeds, lifeless trees and
overgrown brush. The house should ve been condemned and demolish with a
bulldozer a decade ago.
Now the RAIN is hammering, an evaporation Elm tree in the front yard continues
combating the storm for the millionth time.
In the driveway, a 1979 discolored scorched orange Cadillac Coupe Deville is parked.

Beatrice sips her pea soup, enjoying the last few bites of her meal. Beatrice is the

Clinical Manifestation Of Parkinson s Disease
Clinical Manifestation of Parkinson s Disease
The main clinical manifestation that Mr. Cane has presented with can be identified
through assessing the pathophysiology of PD. When assessing the case study in
Appendix A, the clinical presentation that he is displaying includes bradykinesia,
tremor, and rigidity.
Bradykinesia is the slowness in movement and is the most distinctive presentation of
PD, presenting in 80 percent patients. Bradykinesia is theorized to be caused by
dysfunction in the basal ganglia and the deficiency of dopamine. The basal ganglia is
no longer able to reinforce cortical mechanism associated with beginning, initiating or
completing movements. This is due to the fact that the basal ganglia is involved with
such functions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cane is also experiencing such symptoms as dysarthria, diminished blinking and
hypomimia. These clinical manifestations are caused by the bradykinesia he is
experiencing. In dysarthria, the dysfunction of the basal ganglia from decreased
dopaminergic neurons. This dysfunction causes for disruptions to occur with the
muscular control in relation to speech. Dysphagia occurs with PD as well, although
Mr. Cane was not noted to have this symptom, it is possible that his dehydration and
poor nutritional intake occurred because of difficulties with swallowing. A patient
can often be unaware that they are having difficulties in their swallowing, therefore
this is an important area to assess for patients (Tjaden, 2008). Hypomimia occurs due
to the effects of bradykinesia. The impairments caused in the motor cortex of the brain
cause for this reduced ability for facial
Salmonell A Common Bacteria
The importance of doing this investigation was necessary as this microorganism,
Salmonella is a common bacteria encountered in daily life. Salmonella is a
bacterium that is found in a wide variety of animals and mammals (Weese and
Fulford, 2011). Gram negative bacteria exhibit appendages on outer surfaces
known as pili (Lo et al., 2014). The pili is also named fimbriae, these are chains of
protein that form filaments that extend from the outer surface of bacterial cells
enabling them to adhere to any host target cell (Proft and Baker, 2009; Kang and
Baker, 2012). This makes the pili of clinical importance when assessing clinical
manifestation; particularly in pathogenic organisms, when developing drugs such as
vaccines (Kang and Baker, 2012). Currently, the use of pili in vaccine development
is widespread in research (Wizeman et al, 1999). This suggests that the pilus is the
basic structural subunit in all bacterial cells. Studying Salmonella is vital in
understanding how SafD operates and possible clinical problems posed to
individuals, due to the different strains of the bacterium that have been previously
discovered. Although Salmonella has been identified and classified into different
classifications, it has undergone multiple changes and the main nomenclature system
is yet to be established (Chiu, Lin Hui, 2014). The genus which Salmonella belongs
to is known as the Enterobacteriaceae family (Chu and Su, 2004; Farmer, 1995).
Salmonella is a gram negative rod shaped
Slaughter Meat Research Paper
It is said if slaughter houses had a glass window everyone would become
vegetarian. Animals are tortured, boiled, electrified and killed to become the
everyday meat. In the documentary EARTHLINGS, we can see how the cows,
pigs, chicken and seafood are bred and butchered to become food. Cows are
branded with hot iron rods, dehorned with big pliers and transported to different
slaughterhouses that then kill the cows in different procedures. Most of these
procedures are not clean and the animal stills feel the pain. Cows which produce
milk are tied to a post for entire life and milk with inhumane ways, feeding pesticides
and antibiotics to increase the productivity. These cows die earlier than the usual
cows. Pigs are also treated the same

  • 3. Comparison Between Routine Activities Theory And Rational... Today s class discussion was about Rational Theories, which states that individuals make reasonable decisions and apply them to their daily life activities. Individual make these decisions based on their best self interest. The major points of the Rational Theory are: Routine Activities Theory, Lifestyle Theory and Rational Choice Perspective. Routine activities theory states that the circumstances of an individual s life is mainly decided by the daily pattern of social interaction or activities. Therefore, depending on these routine activities criminal offenses could ascend or descent (Williams and McShane, 2013, p. 238). Accordingly, routine activities theory is basically the type of routine a person keeps, based on his/her circumstances. Since everyone has different routine activities, some individuals will be more prone to criminal attacks such as robbery, rape, murder, etc. as discussed in class. For instance, a young woman that works until 1 o clock at night, and walks home in the dark is more vulnerable to be rob or sexual assaulted.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They state that depending on a person s daily routine whether work or social activities, victimization rate differentiate. (as cited in Williams and McShane, 2013, p. 239). For example, people that have a higher status in society are at lower risk of victimization because they engage in less routine activities and the places they hang around are saved. However, deprived individuals have a higher risk of being victimized due to the environment and the interactions with criminals, as well as, the places they frequent are unsafe, as talked over in
  • 4. The Role Of Subgenre In American Horror Films Hollywood, more than any other film industry, deserves to be attributed with the creation of the horror genre. Even though it is not responsible for the first attempts at horror movies, it certainly shaped the genre into what it is today and made it accessible to global audiences. The appearance of horror movies happens in cycles with a distinct pattern that repeats itself a movie appears, delivers thrills to the audience, and suddenly, due to low production costs, sequels and remakes are made, or original films based on the same formula. This way, different subgenres are produced. Eventually, the market becomes saturated and the subgenre dies. Most of the classics seem to have fallen prey to the greedy hands of the movie industry in hopes of collecting profit. A sequel to George A. Romeros Night of the Living Dead was made in 2004, in 2007 Rob Zombie directed his version of John Carpenter s Halloween, Gus Van Sant directed the remake of Hitchcock s Psycho and The Saw franchise is due to get its eighth sequel released in 2017. Hantke calls this the symptom of the crisis of contemporary American horror film (6). Some of these films did very well at the box office but most of them didn t, largely due to the loss of originality and the ability to surprise and shock, which stands at the basis of every successful horror film. The next step for the challenged horror industry was the process of transnationalization searching for inspiration outside familiar borders, more specifically turning to East Asia. The initial phase of J horror s rising popularity in the United States, for example, was largely driven by a search, on the part of hardcore fans, for more exotic and extreme forms of horror film. (Hantke 12) However, Hantke states that this is not an isolated phenomenon, since Hollywood has always thrived

The Need For A Job For American Society The need for a job in American society is vital and not having one in today s society can cause major financial problems for an individual or a whole family. An average American, typically works eight hour shifts and sometimes even put in overtime to meet their needs. After an exhausting day at work, people tend to get hungry and the infamous question of what to eat begins to occupy every inner thought. Some are not only wondering what they should eat for dinner, but most of these workers also have a family to come home to and feed. People come home tired, lacking motivation to do anything, and the thought of having to prepare dinner for themselves or their family sounds discouraging. On the way home from work, everyone is bound to see a fast foodrestaurant of some sort, waiting for potential consumers in the street corner, illuminated by an infamous neon sign. The temptation to stop by and grab a quick meal is overwhelming, but there is always one jumbled up thought that suggests preparing a meal at home would be wiser. The typical American citizen has to fight a mental battle on deciding where they should take their health and how it will benefit them in the long run. Though most individuals who visit these fast food establishments can care less about the nutritionvalue behind their favorite meals, it is an important component to consider when buying at these places. With working from nine to five and coming home with the potential to eat everything in sight, if it

Having the ability to grow to a length of about 20 feet, the Python Molurus is no small predator, however, ironically, these massive creatures may not be so easy to be seen. As snakes and reptiles are famous for being able to camouflage themselves, these Pythons are able to hide in plain sight, and along with that are absolutely able to prey on creatures with ease. The Pythons color patterns are along the lines of white and yellow with spotted patterns that range from certain tans and grays to brown. These colors and patterns generally range and very from place to place depending on where they live. At the beginning, they celebrate as they have total autonomy as there are no adults around. They attempt to establish a civilization but when order collapses, they go on a journey from civilization to savagery. • 10. Tornado Research Papers Tornados are an extremely interesting phenomenon. These natural disasters need a series of very precise activities to occur in order to materialize. For a tornado to form, it needs the same events as in a thunderstorm to occur. First a wind shear needs to take place; this is when two opposing gusts of windon different levels make a horizontal vortex. One section of the vortex will rise because of the buoyant warm air, creating a storm. After this a supercell can form; a supercell happens when upper level wind causes the storm to spin. The supercell can grow very large as long as warm air continues to be sucked through the vortex away from the cool air. The main reason tornadoes occur here more than other places, is because topography in this central US area consists of open plains and fields. During summer the plains tend to get very hot and this warm air rises to meet with cool air creating conditions ideal for storms. Tornadoes usually last around ten minutes; larger and stronger tornadoes can linger up to thirty minutes. Wind speeds during tornadoes reach up to three hundred miles per hour, but most tornadoes can travel at speeds of around one hundred miles per hour. Tornadoes typically cover and span a few miles. The speeds they move are devastating and strong enough to rip houses out of their foundations. At least 60 people in the US are killed

Introduction With the continuous improvement of modern architectural functions, higher requirements of concrete have been put forward. Under the circumstance of high technology, concrete technology is developed towards high strength, high workability and high durability. Since the 1990s, along with a variety of new cementitious materials, mineral admixtures, superplasticizer and the new development and application of other additives, the production of concrete with good workability, excellent mechanical properties and also high durability can become a reality (Laskar, 2011). This new type of concrete is called high performance concrete (HPC). Compared to the conventional concrete, HPC has high strength, high resistance and high durability. Therefore, high performance concrete is the inevitable result of the development of modern concrete technology. The main purpose of this study is to indicate the performance characteristics and applications of two typical types of specialty concretes: watertight concrete (WC) and self compacting concrete (SCC). Each of the case study will discuss, first, the mix design procedures and the performance characteristics compared to ordinary concrete; second, the application of each specialty concrete; last, the example of the utilisation of waste materials in each specialty concrete. 2. Effects Of World War One On Europe Kegan Navarre Mrs.Martinez ELA IV 4th Hour May 2, 2016 The Effects of World War One on Europe In the early twentieth century, the most powerful nations in the world were preparing for war with a heightened sense of national pride. Germany, eager to go to war, created arguably the greatest military in the world at the time. This heightened militarism in Germany had two major reactions from other world powers. The first was to build up their respective militaries in order to prepare for a war if it became necessary. The second was to create a system of alliances in case they were attacked. The series of alliances led to the formation of two powerful groups. The first was known as the Central Powers consisting of Germany, Bulgaria, Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. The second was the Allied Powers which included England, France, Russia, and Italy. Then on June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip. After the assassination, Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia. The series of alliances created prior to the assassination led to many European countries declaring war on one another in order to protect their allies. Because of imperialism of Africa in the ninteenth century and a growing US involvement in European affairs, the war spread throughout the entire world. The Great War, later named World War One would go on for four long years with roughly twenty million casualties before a cease fire in 1918. On June 28, 1919

Rodgers emphasized the corruption of money and the plummet of a once powerful man, Jeffery Skilling, Enronrequired some level of knowledge about the historical scandal and the stock market. The audience endured three hours of this business production. With little knowledge or interest in business and corporations, I personally struggled to connect with the cast and stay in touch with the plot because of the many distractions dancing about the stage. However, the acting, set design, and the direction produced a wonderful, informative production. Primarily, the cast, overall, was hard to connect with on a deeper level. The actress who particularly stood out from the rest was Hayden Haring as Claudia Roe. She showcased a powerful, intelligent woman who often stayed in the shadows due to patriarchy. As a female in society today, this character was the only one I truly felt pity. On the other hand, Skilling;s daughter played by Erin Cooper made me increasingly uncomfortable. She was overly sexualized to the audience when the character is supposed to pu ll the

For example, William Shakespeare uses foil characters such as Don John, a illegitimate brother to the prince of Aragon, Don Pedro, in Much Ado About Nothing. In the play, Don Pedro arranged Claudio and Hero s wedding while Don John tries to destroy it. • 22. The Pine Is The Oldest Living Organism On The Planet Growing in only six states the bristlecone pine is the oldest living organism on the planet. At 4,765 years old the Methuselah is the oldest documented living bristlecone there is, being almost 1,000 years older than its counterparts of the species. The age of this tree can be determined by the amount of rings that are found when the inner truck is exposed. There is where the truth of the extraordinary tree and its undeniable ability to outlive all other organisms lies. The bristlecone having the ability to outlive all other organisms can be questioned but instead of asking how it lives so long it should be questioned on the reasons for its lengthy pace to die. The bristlecone pine is known to grow in the White Mountains of eastern California. In that area conditions are not most desirable and ideal for plants to grow, however the bristlecone has managed to withstand the harsh conditions and surpass the hands of time. The White Mountains are an area that experiences short summers with a season for growing only being measured at several weeks. These mountains also adhere to strong dry winds that travel against rocky souls. These type of conditions cause any rain water that may fall to either drain off to fast for the plant to absorb or the water to just evaporate (Matthews, M). With such harsh conditions it is amazing that the bristlecone is still standing as the oldest living organism, unless it is because of these harsh conditions that the tree has such longevity. It may
  • 23. American Identity In No-No Boy After WWII ended in 1945, xenophobia amongst the white populace, coupled with an inflexible definition of who or what represented American ness , prevented Asian Americans from claiming an American identity. Alongside this exclusion, the post war period also witnessed the assertion of American identity formed by culture and family in the Issei and Nisei community. This essay will argue that through Ichiro Yamada s struggle to integrate, Okada s No No Boy represents the fracturing belief of a monoracial American identity and the cultural instability found within the narrative. John Okada s No No Boy adopts an allegoric strategy in order to foreground the attitudes and lives the Issei and Nisei shaped during their internment and sometimes incarceration, which continued after the war. Moreover, as the novel progresses, Okada examines characters such as Ichiro Yamada, who face the cultural conflicts and form the possibility of an elusive insinuation of promise of belonging in post war America (221). Additionally, the racial slurs and violent attacks by other Japanese and non Japanese Americans that befall him highlight the divisions within American society. A close reading for the free indirect discourse and allegory shows how John Okada uses these literary strategies to suggest the disturbance of American identity. Ichiro Yamada s refusal to serve in the U.S. Army presents the parental and cultural aspects that are influenced by the belief of a monoracial American identity. During the internment, the government administered a Loyalty Questionnaire to all Japanese internees. To Ichiro, this either determined his rejection or acceptance into American society. One major question was Question 27: willing to serve whenever ordered (10 /9 Lecture). Another major question was Question 28: swearing allegiance to the United Statesand forswearing allegiance to the Emperor of Japan (10/9 Lecture). By refusing to serve in the army, American society regarded him as a disloyal American. However, in Mrs. Yamada s eyes, his refusal affirms her pride in calling him her son (16). During this scene, free indirect discourse, or the presenting of thoughts of a character as if it is from their POV via character s direct

Effects Of Alcoholism On The American Medical Association Assignment: Literature review Topic: Addiction to alcohol Instructor: Vanda Wark Literature Review Definition of alcoholism: According to the American medical association alcoholism is a chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial and environmental factors influencing development and manifestations. Alcoholism has had a tremendous impact on the human condition and its relationship to society. The evolution of alcoholism, its behavior and quality of life impact will be addressed; as well as treatments and fiscal impact in the literature review. Alcoholism is a complex disorder with many pathways leading to its development. Genetic and other biological factors are likely involved in the emergence of alcohol dependence, along with cognitive, behavioral, temperament, psychological, and sociocultural factors. Alcohol use patterns, including alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence, are familial in nature (cf. Heath et al., 1997; cf. Kendler, Heath, Neale, Kessler, Eaves, 1992; Hesselbrock, 1995). That is, similar styles of alcohol use and the presence of alcoholism are often found within the same family, running from parent to child and across multiple generations of biologically related individuals. However, many other traits or behaviors, such as religious or political affiliation, which have little or no biological basis and, therefore, cannot be under heavy genetic control, also run in families. While genetic and other biological factors cannot fully

  • 29. Empathy Between Empathy And Empathy The dictionary defines empathy as the feeling that you understand and share another person s experiences and emotions , but personally I believe it is far more complex (Merriam Webster). To me, empathy is more than the ability to understand another s emotions or experiences, it is the ability to see beyond yourself and your world without being prompted to. I Those who have the greatest amount of empathydo not need to be told that there are people in the world that struggle and face sadness. It is in their nature to know that it is this way and they feel for their fellow being, wanting to help in some way. Throughout this semester I have come to understand that empathy plays a key role in defining an individual, a community, and how the two interact with each other. There is a distinct differences between those individuals that have empathy and those that do not, it shows clearly in their attitude and actions towards others. It is those individuals that have empathy that make up strong communities, and empathy is arguably the most important part of a community because it allows for a sense of understanding and togetherness. How empathic an individual is is very important as to whether or not they are going to be a positive contributing members of society. The ability to empathize with others is an important life skill. People who are empathic are better received by others, they have strong people skills, and they have a better character overall. Empathy lends itself to

However, it does happen that sometimes a certain member of the family decides to forget what it means to be part of a family. August Wilson s Fences portrays extremely well what happens when a member of the family decides to forget his or her duties. The use of metaphors and symbols throughout the playsuch as baseball and fences, illustrate exactly why Troy Maxson as a family man was destined for disappointment. Rose, Troy s wife in the playwas the obvious voice of reason between the two; all she wanted was an interrupted happy family life. The fences that she put up were not physical fences but rather emotional and psychological ones used to keep her family in line. These fences were made very clear to both the reader and the other characters in the play. For example when Bono (Troy s best friend) is questioning Troy s commitment to Rose he said, Some people build fences to keep people out... and others build fences to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you. (898). This excerpt perfectly described the different values shared between Rose and Troy but is also a common generalization of gender roles in most family. The only fence Rose ever set up for Troy was one of loyalty and commitment. She believed in the strength in numbers whilst Troy strongly believed in the power of individuality. Troy on the other hand had a completely different approach when it

The rates of arthritis diagnosis have been steadily increasing in the last 20 years. Based on surveys and research it was determined that by the end of 1990, it was estimated that almost 40 million people suffered from arthritis and/or were currently being treated for it (MMWR, 2001). Further studies show that by the end of 2005, this number had increased by almost 10 million people as reported by the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) and over 23 million had reported that although they were not yet diagnosed they were dealing with chronic joint symptoms and conditions (Atkinson, 2009). This increase indicates that approximately 800,000 people per year since 1990 have been diagnosed or treated for arthritis (MMWR). The limitations of activities of daily living (ADLs) are one of the most common aspects of those suffering from arthritis. It is estimated that out of over 70 million people with arthritis, about 20 million (close to 30%) have debilitating symptoms which may cause them decreased abilities to carry on daily activities. Overcoming these resistances I finally went ahead for counselling and to my absolute disappointment, the sessionwas useless and at times even offensive to me. The counsellor asked me my age and started telling a long list of problems I may be facing. She didn t stop there and then asked me about my weight and any problems that I may be having... This issue has prompted me to go to personal therapy and also has increased the relevance and importance of personal therapy in my eyes. Through this experience I have also realised how unresolved issues in the past can impact the counselling process with or without you being aware about them. There are many areas that I need to work on expect this and the major among them is my competence as a counsellor, I still need to develop various professional skills that I will be required to employ in the counselling session and that is something I believe I will gain from my course. Both of these beliefs seem wrong to be now that I have gained more objective knowledge of counselling. Firstly, to keep counselling as a last resort the person is embracing a very likely possibility that things would get worse then on rather than better and if proper therapy is undertaken at the very beginning of a problem it will improve things for the individual for definite and may also be more effective and efficient in comparison to if you let it blow to proportion that may severely

Which required good interpersonal skills and a good knowledge of the activity or tasks the mentee would have to undertake, and be able to effectively relay or demonstrate the tasks or activities to the mentee. Accompanied with the current shift towards more organic organisation structures and more emphasis on the learning organisation, mentoring provides a more all round experience to the mentees by getting them confident with their role with the organisation. It also improves communication throughout the organisation by allowing mentees to give feedback and learn in a not so formal fashion which helps people feel more relaxed and develops the formal and informal culture of the organisation. From the organisations standpoint mentoring is a cost effective way of training and developing new staff, and it helps retain existing staff by giving them more responsibility. It is argued that with the underlying causes behind facilitated mentoring lying in cost effectiveness, does this underlying tenet prevent a real chemistry existing between the mentor and the mentee. This is not necessarily the case in all organisations, the Metropolitan police force (a non profit organisation) have recognised the need for mentoring and have incorporated it both internally and externally to assist them in their day to day work. The Metropolitan Police have started a mentoring scheme for young ethnic officers by pairing them with a mentor from the same background, to help them get prepared for the job and also to act as counselors and to deal with any reservations they may have about joining the force. Clinical Manifestation Of Parkinson s Disease Clinical Manifestation of Parkinson s Disease The main clinical manifestation that Mr. Cane has presented with can be identified through assessing the pathophysiology of PD. When assessing the case study in Appendix A, the clinical presentation that he is displaying includes bradykinesia, tremor, and rigidity. Bradykinesia is the slowness in movement and is the most distinctive presentation of PD, presenting in 80 percent patients. Bradykinesia is theorized to be caused by dysfunction in the basal ganglia and the deficiency of dopamine. The basal ganglia is no longer able to reinforce cortical mechanism associated with beginning, initiating or completing movements. This is due to the fact that the basal ganglia is involved with such functions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cane is also experiencing such symptoms as dysarthria, diminished blinking and hypomimia. These clinical manifestations are caused by the bradykinesia he is experiencing. In dysarthria, the dysfunction of the basal ganglia from decreased dopaminergic neurons. This dysfunction causes for disruptions to occur with the muscular control in relation to speech. Dysphagia occurs with PD as well, although Mr. Cane was not noted to have this symptom, it is possible that his dehydration and poor nutritional intake occurred because of difficulties with swallowing. A patient can often be unaware that they are having difficulties in their swallowing, therefore this is an important area to assess for patients (Tjaden, 2008). Hypomimia occurs due to the effects of bradykinesia. The impairments caused in the motor cortex of the brain cause for this reduced ability for facial
  • 51. Salmonell A Common Bacteria The importance of doing this investigation was necessary as this microorganism, Salmonella is a common bacteria encountered in daily life. Salmonella is a bacterium that is found in a wide variety of animals and mammals (Weese and Fulford, 2011). Gram negative bacteria exhibit appendages on outer surfaces known as pili (Lo et al., 2014). The pili is also named fimbriae, these are chains of protein that form filaments that extend from the outer surface of bacterial cells enabling them to adhere to any host target cell (Proft and Baker, 2009; Kang and Baker, 2012). This makes the pili of clinical importance when assessing clinical manifestation; particularly in pathogenic organisms, when developing drugs such as vaccines (Kang and Baker, 2012). Currently, the use of pili in vaccine development is widespread in research (Wizeman et al, 1999). This suggests that the pilus is the basic structural subunit in all bacterial cells. Studying Salmonella is vital in understanding how SafD operates and possible clinical problems posed to individuals, due to the different strains of the bacterium that have been previously discovered. Although Salmonella has been identified and classified into different classifications, it has undergone multiple changes and the main nomenclature system is yet to be established (Chiu, Lin Hui, 2014). The genus which Salmonella belongs to is known as the Enterobacteriaceae family (Chu and Su, 2004; Farmer, 1995). Salmonella is a gram negative rod shaped
