Analysis Of The Invention Of Wings
Sue Monk Kidd s The Invention of Wings is a riveting tale of equality, the struggle
of freedom, and friendship. The story revolves around Sarah Grimke and her slave
Handful that she was given on her eleventh birthday. From a young age, Sarah
begins to understand the consequences of slave inhumanity and this disturbs her
daily life. After watching a slave being punished, she was left scarred and develops
a speech impediment. As Sarah proceeds through her life, she comes across
important life occasions such as death, extrusion, and heartbreak. Sarah s relationship
with Handful has its ups and downs. As children, they were very close and the idea
of owning Handful weighs a toll on her. As she continues through the stages of her
life, she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charlotte s passion in driving emancipation was not only portrayed through her
storytelling, but also her quilts. The black triangles sewn onto the quilt represent
freedom and blackbird wings. This obviously was such a big part in Handful s life as
well because later in the novel when she sews a quilt for Denmark Vesey, the same
black triangles that her mother had sewn years before were symbolized again. At
the end of the novel when Handful and Sky escape, they take Charlotte s original
quilt with the wings on it to the North with them. Handful also references hearing
the blackbird wings as she escapes to the north at the end of the novel. There are
two unambiguous themes that the book center around: friendship and equality. As
a reader, both of these themes encapsulate the reader as the novel progresses and
almost allow the reader to have a personal connection with the characters. Unlike
other novels that only show positives and joyful experiences, Handful and Sarah
experience a roller coaster of a friendship because of their differing backgrounds.
Both of these characters must overcome their own issues, which sometimes created
distance and heartache between the two. In part one of the novel, Handful talks
about a pure love between her and Sarah and it shows their innocence as children
and the friendship that they both had: People say love gets fouled by a difference big
as ours. I
Bulimia In America
Today in the United States over thirty million Americans suffer from an eating
disorder. Of those thirty million, only three million will ever receive proper
treatment. Some doctors will call any eating disorder Anorexia when really it
could be Bulimia or another eating disorder. With so many people affected by
these diseases, it is necessary to know the differences so these people may receive
proper treatment. Anorexia and Bulimia are both very serious eating disorders with
many differences and similarities including causes, symptoms, and treatments.

The Plot Against People Analysis
In The Plot Against People , Baker made light of common annoyances in inanimate
objects by using irony, mood, and personification. For example, he created a mood
of humor to further stress how everyday objects plot against us. He did this by
using phrases such as ...furnaces, gloves, and pliers are incredibly stupid (Baker
45 46). In addition, he uses personification to persuade readers how objects are
plotting against humans. For example, Baker stated that It is not uncommon for a
pair of pliers to climb all the way from the cellar to the attic in its single minded
determination to raise its owner s blood pressure (Baker 27 30). This demonstrates to
readers how pliers end up annoying humans. In addition, the author conveys his
purpose of making light of common annoyances by using imagery. He used imagery
when he wrote, ...the automobile never breaks down while entering a filling station
with a large staff of idle mechanics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He used an eerie mood to communicate the dangers of fate by describing the death
of Herbert, Mr. and Mrs. White s son. Herbert died because Mr. White interfered
with fate by making a wish using the monkey s paw. Jacobs also used imagery to
tell his story of fate. He used imagery when he described Mr. White reluctantly
going to the parlour to make a second wish with the monkey s paw. This imagery
paints a vivid picture of the dangers of interfering with fate by describing Mr.
White s fear to use the monkey s paw again. Another way he persuaded us was
through personification. When Mr. White made the first wish, Jacob s wrote, As I
wished, it [the monkey s paw] moved in my hand like a snake (Jacobs 4). The
personification of the monkey s paw reiterates Jacob s belief that interfering with
fate by making the wish is dangerous. Jacob s used imagery, mood, and
personification to convey the dangers of
The Music Video For Their Anthem
Kendrick Lamar Duckworth often references the experience of sitting on his
father s shoulders at the age of 8, watching West coast hip hop legends Dr. Dre and
Tupac film the music video for their anthem to the Golden State, California Love as
the spark that ignited his creative bonfire. Born on June 17, 1987 to couple who
moved from Chicago to Compton with only $500 to their names in order to escape
the gang lifestyle, Lamar was exposed to guns, drugs, and violence at a young age.
I m 6 years old, seein my uncles playing with shotguns, sellin dope in front of the
apartment. Lamar witnessed his first murder outside his family s apartment when
he was 5 years old a teenager gunned down while selling drugs. Although Lamar
was never affiliated with a gang, his whereabouts did put him into a few tense
situations with gang members; in the song Average Joe, Lamar recounts his
experience being shot at by a group of Crips simply because of the neighborhood in
which he lived. But instead of being caught up in the whirlpool of gang banging
that takes the lives of so many young Compton residents before him, he used his
experiences as motivation and fodder for exploding music career. As a kid living
in one of the most violent cities in America, Lamar kept a low profile. He made
good grades in school and generally kept to himself a habit he would soon be forced
to overcome. One example being when Lamar knew the answer to a math problem
during class, but he was too

Misleading Interpretations of Conrad s Heart of Darkness...
Misleading Interpretations of Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Chinua Achebe, a well known writer, once gave a lecture at the University of
Massachusetts about Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, entitled An Image of
Africa: Racism in Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Throughout his essay, Achebe notes
how Conrad used Africa as a background only, and how he set Africa up as a foil to
Europe, (Achebe, p.251) while he also projects the image of Africa as the other
world, the antithesis of Europe and therefore of civilization. (Achebe, p.252) By his
own interpretations of the text, Achebe shows that Conrad eliminates the African as a
human factor, thereby reducing Africa to the role of props. (Achebe, p.257)

284) In comparing the two views, one must step back and consider that both views
are only interpretations on what Conrad may have intended. Since no one can ever
really know what his actual meanings were for these two women being so similar
(in their movements), and yet so different (in their character), only individual
explanation can be brought up. This in particular, is what brings me to question
both Achebe and Sarvan s points. By reorganizing Conrad s descriptive words,
Sarvan was able to propose that Conrad did not intend for the mistress to be
perceived as the savage counterpart. (Achebe, p. 255) Yet, at the same time, both
Sarvan and Achebe each write about what they think to be the right thing. It seems to
me that Achebe was looking for racism in this short novel, and that Sarvan was so
taken back by Achebe s accusations, that he himself, went and looked for ways to
defend Conrad.
However, this particular shortcoming of the native woman, is not the only one that
Achebe finds. As stated earlier, communication is very important in our society and
to civilization (as known by the Europeans of the time). While reading Heart of
Darkness, I noticed a significant difference in the levels of communication that were
allotted between the Europeans and the Africans. This drastic difference in speech
was at the core
The Role Of The Head Of State In India
The head of state in India is the President. This is regularly a formal part, initially
demonstrated on the British ruler to prompt, support and caution the chose
government on sacred issues. The President can restore a Parliamentary Bill once for
reevaluation and, during emergency, for example, a hung Parliament, the part is
urgent. The President can proclaim a highly sensitive situation which empowers the
Lok Sabha to expand its life past the typical five year term. As individuals from a
discretionary school, about 5,000 individuals from the national parliament and state
administrators are qualified to vote in the race of the President. The present President
is Ram Nath Kovind, an individual from the dalit (untouchable) rank. There... Show

At the flip side of the scale, three states have just a single agent each. There are sure
voting public where just hopefuls from planned throws and booked tribes are
permitted to stand. Every part with the exception of the two assigned ones speaks to
a land single part voting public as in the British model for the House of Commons.
The Supreme Court is the most elevated legal specialist in common, criminal and
protected cases. Since 2008, the measure of the court has been 31. A judge is
designated to the Supreme Court by the President of India on the suggestion of the
collegium a shut gathering of the Chief Justice of India, the four most senior judges
of the court, and the senior most judge hailing from the high court of a forthcoming
nominee. In any case, a Bill is as of now being considered which would give that
Supreme Court judges are delegated by the administrative branch with the collegium
working as a consultative body. Another measurement of women in governmental

number of females have now been going into politics. Ordinary governmental issues
reflected male concerns and henceforth women were eminently truant in legislative

Ivan Niven s Proof Of Pi Being Irrational
Ivan Niven s Proof of Pi Being Irrational The proof of pi being irrational can be done
by contradiction. To do this, Niven first assumed that ПЂ =a / b, for relatively prime
integers, a and b. He then created a polynomial function of power 2n that depends on
the constant a and b. Next, define the polynomial for a constant integern, which Ivan
Niven used in his proof:
This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One
property is that when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(ПЂ x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a
bx)n, the term (a bx)n can be expanded into a new polynomial with integer
coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the binomial theorem. Each of these
terms get multiplied by the term xn. Thus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, Niven showed how the integral of f(x) sin(x) cannot always be an integer for
all n values. Since sin(x) is always bounded between 0 and 1 when x is bounded
between 0 and ПЂ, it can be stated that f(x) sin(x) f(x). Niven used what he has
stated before: f(x) = xn(a bx)n/n!, and showed how that (a bx) a when x is bounded
between 0 and ПЂ. From this Niven stated that must be a smaller value than (a)n.
Similarly, when x is bounded between 0 and ПЂ, the term xn must be between 0 and
ПЂn. Niven took all of these properties and functions and stated

Summary of the report
I am Gowthami the health professional appointed to the role of clinical governance
project leader at Mokoia District Health Board . This report discusses the 3 concepts
of governance, management and clinical governance related to the district health
board and includes introduction of clinical governance to the staff of Mokoia DHB.
As a clinical governance project leader my role is to introduce the implications of
clinical governance to the staff, which comprises cultural considerations, timeframes
for implementation and obtaining views of the staff at DHB depending upon the
elements discussed in the booklet.
DEVELOPING THE BOOKLET
The Mokoia booklet was made on the grounds of perceiving the term clinical
governance, governance and management through academic research.
According to Harman (2012) Governance is exercise of political, economic and
administrative authority in the management of a country s affairs at all levels and
comprises complex mechanisms, processes and institutions, through which citizens
and groups articulate their interests, mediate their differences and exercise their legal
rights and obligations. According to World Health Organization, governance is a
cumulative participation of community, private and public sectors for promotion of
health in a collaborative way. The overall
Organization Design in FMC Green River Essay
Organization Design in FMC Green River
Organization design is a formal, guided process for integrating the people,
information and technology of an organization. It is used to match the form of the
organization as closely as possible to the purpose of the organization. This design
process seeks to improve and facilitate the efforts of members within the organization.
With respect to FMC Corporation s Green River, Wyoming facility, under the
guidance of this entity s site manager, Kenneth Dailey, the design should be
approached as an internal changes within the organization with the entity s members
working together to define the needs of the organization then create systems to meet
those needs most effectively.

Therefore, a team was sent to the Aberdeen market in order to evaluate this plant s

in terms of its management and output.
In analyzing the ability of management of Aberdeen, one may note that this facility
can be described as laid back and easygoing. As begun with the initial Aberdeen
plant manager, Bob Lancaster, then proceeded by Jeff Bust and finally Roger

noted within Clawson s, Custom Business Resources, Aberdeen was built on trust of
every employee. Lancaster s view was to manage in a manner to eliminate fear in his
employees and instead increase productivity and potential beneficial risk taking, by
organizing self directing work teams, expecting the employees to assume and exercise
responsibility and maintain high standards of quality and service. Teams were created
for every division with respective team leaders elected to help manage the family.
Management made their employees feel trusted and implemented an almost self
directed system with just the appropriate amount of upper level development in

The Coca Cola Company is one of the biggest global leader in the beverage industry.
It offers more that hundreds of brands, including fruit juice, soft drinks, and all kinds

competition in the beverage industry, marketing activity is vital for it to maintain its
leading position. Once Coca Cola stops its consistently advertise, its competitors will
be able to take its market share. In 2014, it spends 6.9% of the total revenue on
advertising, making Coca Cola was the top advertiser in its industry (Investopedia,
2015). This essay will examine whether the marketing activities that conducted by the
company is ethical or not.
First of all, Respect, as one of the six basic sets of ethical values, is violated. One
Coca Cola advertisement showed that a number of white people go to an indigenous
town with its soft drink. Although the company says the ad is meant to encourage
breaking down prejudice and share, it leads to a big debate as the company is accused
to discriminate the native communities, saying it is an attack on the dignity of
indigenous people (The Guardian, 2015). It is unethical to put native communities

It means balancing the needs of different shareholders. The Coca Cola Company has
been the major sponsor of the World Cup for more than a decade. The company spent
a huge sum of money to make it impossible for other small company to compete with,
so the company has dominated and monopolized the position. This act is unethical
and lead to an unfair business environment because the company drives other
competitors out using its corporate power. The company should use a reasonable
amount of sponsorship instead of a higher number. Therefore, small companies will

is modelled on the same lines as football s EPL or basketball s NBA. It works on

Unreliable Narrator In The Raven Research Paper
Edgar Allen Poe: Unreliable Narrator An unreliable narrator is defined as a narrator
that cannot be trusted. Edgar Allen Poe, an American poet, critic, short story writer,
and author, is known to have unreliable narrators in many of his works. The
narrators in his works, such as The Tell Tale Heart is considered to be unreliable
because he suffers from a severe mental illness, tell lies, limit their point of view, or
are not straight forward.
The Tell Tale Heartis a gothic short story written by Edgar Allen Poe. It is about a
psychotic unnamed man, who happens to be the narrator that kills and hides the body
of an older man who lives with him. The narrator is not really straight forward as to
the reason for committing the murder but one can assume that he is afraid of the

reason, the narrator decided that if he killed the old man, he would not have to see

The Whore of Babylon woodcut by Albert Durer was one of fifteen woodcuts in
his famous series, The Apocalypse which was published in 1498. This woodcut
series portrays scenes from the book of Revelation in the bible, concerning the end
of the world. It was created at a time when Europe anticipated the Last Judgement ,
as Germany was experiencing plagues, religious debates, and peasant movements
towards the end of the 15th century. Durer became wealthy and rapidly well known
across Europe because of this series. He began working on these woodcuts on his

This is due to the use of a tool, a burin, to create extremely thin and subtle lines in an
engraving. The medium used for an engraving is metal and is created using an
intaglio method. Unlike the relief process of printmaking, this process is a positive
one. The artist scratches the image onto the metal plate, inks the surface of it, and
wipes it clean. As a result, ink is placed into the carved out drawing. Next, the plate
is run through a roller press which causes the ink to absorb to the paper. The
difference in appearance between a relief print and an intaglio print is because of
essentially drawing the image to be created onto the metal plate for an intaglio
print. Also cross hatching, the use of fine parallel lines to create the illusion of
shade, allowed for more subtle shading in the engraving. This engraving portrays
the melancholy personality of artists and Durer, himself. It is suggested that the
winged figure represents Durer because of the location of his monogram or logo
underneath the bench that figure is sitting on. Her pondering stance represents an
artistic genius who is looking for inspiration, but cannot find it, therefore
experiences despair in her/himself. The winged child sitting to the left of the
winged female, represents anxiety that the uninspired artist could be experiencing.
In addition, in the upper left corner, a bat is found with the words melencholia
beside it. The bat represents melancholy because it only appears or comes out at
night and is linked with the darkness. Durer contrasts melancholy and the light of
inspiration by associating this bat in the dark sky with rays of light. Essentially,
because of the wood medium used in the Whore Of Babylon, lines appear broader,
whereas using metal as a medium allowed the Melencollia engraving to display more
subtle lines and
Should Education Be Mandatory In The United States
Should education be mandatory for all children in the United States?
Education has been one of the most important constitutional amendments that every
society has. It protects the child s rights, promotes the same opportunities in life,
prepares them for their adult life, and helps with the country development. Teaching
is a controversial topic in many countries. People think about until what age education
must be obligatory. Therefore, Education should be mandatory in the U.S. until
adolescents graduate from high school.
Education should be obligatory as a way to respect a constitutional right that each
American has. Knowing that right is something that the person can accept or not.
Education is the base of any society, which has allowed us to create the community
that all we know today. This is something that we all have to grow and be raised

Slice your bacon into half inch small pieces and dice the onion into little pieces. After
you have everything cut, put them in a pan, and fry them together. When the bacon
and onion finish cooking, the bacon should look crispy and the onion should look
transparent. After the components are fully cooked, remove all of the grease from
the pan.
Now you can go back to your potatoes, carefully grip the

Othello, By William Shakespeare
Iago is a Machiavellian villain , someone who is intent on realizing his desires at all
costs and seeks to achieve this in a deceptive manner. To achieve his goals, he utilizes
characters around him to carry out his plans without them realizing. His main purpose
in Othello is to entrap and deceive the hero.
In this scene we discover Iago s hate towards Othello and his motives to ruin him;
one of them being Othello s recent promotion of Michael Cassio to the post of
lieutenant. In spite of Iago s service in battle and the recommendation from the
three great ones of the city , Othello chose to give the position to a Florentine that
never set a squadron in the field . Iago only follows Othello to serve my turn upon
him . Iago is shown to be looking out for his own self interest whilst pretending to
serve Othello. Thus revealing his capacity to hide his feelings and motives so that his
actions don t reveal them.
The opening scene establishes honest Iago as a character who possesses a Janus face
which simultaneously makes him the most faithful of friends and the most deadly of
enemies. His poisonous cleverness allows him to manipulate those around him by
exploiting their finer qualities, which he holds in contempt. He is a real villain
whose dramatic persona of manifest hypocrisy draws the audience towards him even
as he repels them.
His manipulation of the situation between Roderigo and Brabantio demonstrates his
Machiavellian ability to practice deceit; taking facts
The Evolution Of The Homo
Our homo ancestors date back to about 2.5 million years ago. Classification of the
genus Homo into species and subspecies remains poorly defined and subject to
incomplete information, leading to difficulties in binomial naming, and the use of
common names, such as Neanderthal and Denisovan . With that being said, many
people get a misunderstanding when discussing our homo ancestors. The biggest
issue is knowing what a species are actually apart of the genus homo and who isn t.
Several species, including Australopithecus garhi, Australopithecus sediba,
Australopithecus africanus, and Australopithecus afarensis, have been proposed as
the direct ancestor of the Homo lineage. These species have morphological features
that align them with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homo habilis had smaller molars and larger brains than the australopithecines, and
made tools from stone and perhaps animal bones. One of the first known hominids,
it was nicknamed handy man by discoverer Louis Leakey due to its association
with stone tools. Some scientists have proposed moving this species out of Homo
and into Australopithecus due to the morphology of its skeleton being more adapted
to living on trees rather than to moving on two legs like Homo sapiens. Homo
rudolfensis findings in Kenya have been suggested to be Homo habilis, but scientists
are unsure. The fossils found from these two species are said to be from about 1.8
million years ago.
Homo georgicus, named after the country Georgia, is said to possibly be an
intermediate form between Homo erectus and Homo habilis or a sub species of Homo
erectus.
Homo erectus lived from about 1.8 million to about 70,000 years ago. Many
scientist believe that the early stages of erectus, about 1.8 to 1.2 million years ago,
is a separate species called Homo ergaster, seen as a sub species of erectus. In the
early Pleistocene, 1.5 1 Ma, in Africa some populations of Homo habilis are thought
to have evolved more complex brains and made more elaborate stone tools; these
differences and others are sufficient for anthropologists to classify them as a new
species, Homo erectus.
The next two species are said to be a mix between Homo
Potiential Future Effects of Global Warming
Introduction Climate change is one the biggest threats to nature and mankind in the
21st century. The impacts of climate change are visible everywhere, whether it s
melting glaciers, rising sea level, severe storms, heavy flooding, reduced snowfall
in the north and a severe drought in the south. It will also have a number of effects
on the flora and fauna in the future. Scientists predict that global warming in the near
future may cause a mass extinction of wildlife, affecting more than 1 million
species, i.e. about a quarter of all kinds of currently known. World overheating
causes significant changes in climatic conditions and it can damage sensitive
ecosystems in which species live. Sea level rise is a potentially disastrous result of
climate change. Glaciers melt because of the rising temperatures and ocean waters
warm. Therefore, small island developing states and low lying coastal areas are
particularly vulnerable to sea level rise and climatechange. The more sea levels will
rise, the harder will be the situation for the coastal cities, and will be more
impressive to erosion prone coast. Moreover, coastal areas will be exposed to
impressive erosion. Coastal areas have an extremely high population density, since it
is a home to more than 50% of the population, generating over 70% of gross national
product. Moreover, the coastal zone is deeply integrated into the economy, even very
distant from the shore areas and stresses on coastal zones seriously
8th Grade Essay
8th grade. The last year at Ross Middle School. Being retrospective on past years
has me thinking of my many accomplishments, and many fails I ve had. From
getting very good grades to the embarrassing moments. All the time I wish I was
still in elementary school. You get to wake up earlier and do less work. Next year I
probably will be wishing the same thing, but to be in middle school. I am excited for
highschool next year, but also nervous. I am petrified of getting lost or walking
into the wrong classroom. Many of my freshman friends tell me they love
highschool. Life is different in many ways. There is much more homework and
sports responsibility to handle. Lunch is pretty much the same except that I had a
clue of where to sit this year. Classes seem to go by faster. Although we do have more
homework, I give 100% effort. 1st quarter was mostly easy. I received good grades
and did all of my homework. I like LA extra credit and the 3% added to my science
grade. I have good friends, great teachers, and I m having fun. It is sometimes
scary to think that I will be driving in less than 3 years! The goals that we created are
going good. I am nailing the grades and no ACE parts. The 8th grade is very different

After I read some of them I did see a pattern. The teachers were good, the year was
overall ok (one didn t like it at all), do your homework, and don t get involved in
drama. I believe that not getting into drama is correct. Getting into drama just
messes your whole life up for a while. I also agree with the teachers are good. I love
all my teachers this year and seem to understand the concept. This year is going to
more than ok. I will make sure of it. If I have to come to school every day for 7 years
(minus summer), I might as well make it fun! They were also right about how much
the extra credit helped you grade, to take advantage of it. 8th grade will be the best

include employers reporting violation in the employment discrimination laws and the

How Did Mardi Gras Floats
Throw Me Something Mister Mardi Gras is the time for friends and family to
gather together and an unforgettable time. Mardi Gras is viewed as a city
celebration. New Orleans shut the whole city down to have the parades. Walking
down Canal Street all that is seen is the people camped out waiting for the parades
to start. The barbeque pits are lit and the cookouts begin. Just looking around and
seeing people come together all for the same thing is very exciting. Mardi Grashas
changed over the years since attendance. My father is originally from New Orleans,
so he told me some of the history. He told me how the people on the floats would
throw out livestock and whatever you caught that day, is what would be prepared for
dinner. The history... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When making the trip to the city what I m saying is what would automatically be
visualized. Majority of the streets are going to be blocked off, stores are going to be
closed, and traffic is going to be everywhere. The joy of being involved in a holiday
that is very pleasant.
Everyone loves Mardi Gras. Having team spirit goes along with having a good time
in New Orleans. I guarantee one visit and the outcome will be different than the
income. I think this is part of the effects it has on people. So many positive actions
and so much generosity normally will change ones perspective. So why take away
something that we see as being a good thing?
Why take away something they value as much as this? Have they not already lost
enough? Mardi Gras is a holiday that should remain the same and still be kept
around. I feel so strongly about it still being around because it has wonderful history
behind it. The citizens of New Orleans did not fight through the obstacles just to give
up something they love so

?The Vietnam War was fought during 1960 to 1975. It began as an attempt by

The struggle widened into a war between South Vietnam and North Vietnam and
ultimately led to a international conflict. The United States and some 40 other
countries supported South Vietnam by supplying troops and the?USSR and the
People s Republic of China furnished munitions to North Vietnam and the Vietcong.
?Despite the massive American aid, the VC numbers continued to increase. By

3. There were opposing arguments in the case. Some people felt that the slaves
were considered cargo and should be returned back from where they came from.
Others felt that since they were people they should have to stay since they are not
considered cargo. Van Buren did not care how the slaves were classified as long as
he looked good so he could be reelected. Still, there were others who wanted the
slaves to be freed since in their eyes they were people just like themselves. This
shows all the opposing arguments in the case.

Queen Isabella played a role in the case also. She tried the case a total of seven
times with five different presidents. Queen Isabella claimed since the ship was in
her waters it was Spain s property. Queen Isabella really just wanted the financial
benefit of the slaves and did not care about the Africans as people. This shows the
role Queen Isabella played in the Amistad Africans Case.
9. There were many individuals who claimed the Africans as their own. Most of the
individuals who claimed the Africans claimed them for the financial benefit after
selling them. Queen Isabella claimed them since they were in Spanish water which
went back to the Pinckney s treaty. Montez and Ruiz claimed the Africans as cargo
and since they were the captains it belonged to them. This shows why some of the
individuals claimed the Africans.
12. Someone would have had to pay to send the Africans home. I feel it is the
responsibility of the captains, Montez and Ruiz, because slaves were not supposed
imported into the United States any longer. Also Montez and Ruiz had the Africans
names changed so it would not look like illegal slave trade. The captains also
treated the slaves horribly while aboard so the least that they could do is pay for the
Africans to go home. This is how I feel about who should have to pay to send the

Mutually Beneficial Us India Trade Relations
Mutually Beneficial US India Trade Relations
The trade relationships between the US and India to be a very interesting topic
when looking towards the future. This relationship can be extremely beneficial for
both countries as long as we can form a strong bond with the Indian Prime Minister
Narendra Modi. Unfortunately some bad blood between the countries will have to
be patched first. I used three articles to gain enough background information and
facts to formulate a strong opinion to this event. The three articles I used to base
my reactions were Obama Joins with Modi in Pledge to Expand Economic Ties by
Angela Greiling Keane and Shobhana Chandra, New opportunities for India US
Trade by Pete Sessions and Shalabh Kumar, and Obama hosts India s Modi for
White House Visit by Josh Lederman and Darlene Superville. [Insert Thesis Here] In
September President Obama and Prime Minister Modi met to discuss the US and
India s trade future. They wanted to go over policies and various regulations to
ensure that each country is treated fairly. Going over these police from both sides can
form the mutually beneficial relation between these two economically thriving
nations. As a result they want to make better trade relationships so that each country
earns their mutual benefits. For example if India allows US companies to trade over
there then India business can also start to make profits in the American market as well.
They hope to create a strong relationship through strong security,
How Tobacco Use Teaching Methods
Tobacco Use Teaching Methods
Introduction
Choosing the correct teaching method is important to help the learner retain and
learn information in an effective and efficient way. Tobacco use is a health related
topic that needs further education and intervention from a nurse. Group discussion
and demonstration, and return demonstration are two teaching methods of interest to
me, which I believe will be beneficial to use when educating a small group of five
people about this health related topic are. Group discussion involves the deliverance
of medical information or education to a small group of individuals which may
include their family so information, opinions can be exchanged with the nurse. This
is simple way to deliver information to more than one person at one time if time
management is a concern, and the nurse is able to build trust and rapport with the
group as a whole. Demonstration and return demonstration works more effectively
in a small group and involves education or teaching with the nurse and learner(s).
This method also allows time for feedback from both parties. The nurse gives the
learner a demonstration of a task to perform and the learner has to attempt to carry
out the task back showing competence, and the nurse is on standby to give cues as
needed.
Group discussions Group discussions are beneficial as this teaching method is useful
as it allows the learners to share information about their personal experiences and is
both economically and time
The Impact Of The Great Westward Migration
When the Pacific Railroad Act ordered for the construction of the Transcontinental
railroad in 1862, most people were able to find the positive side in the new form of
transportation. Westward migration had previously been difficult for groups such as
the Mormons and many others due to the harsh environment, as well as, natives
attacking weary travelers. With the new railroad, westward migration would be
easier than ever, allowing for what is referred to as the Great westward migration .
This migration led to the founding of land in which towns and full cities were
derived. However, with the great westward migration also came what many referred
to as hell on wheels . As the railroad expanded westward, so did unsavory past times
including, gambling, prostitution, and the building of saloons (Outline:Railroads). Not
surprisingly, what many call the oldest profession in the world existed in Nevadaeven
before the great westward migration occurred, prostitution. Before the
transcontinental railroad was built, the mining boom was in full swing. When the
Comstock Lode was struck in Nevada, many flocked to Virginia City (which at the
time was in Utah territory) in hopes of finding plentiful amounts of silver. The
majority of the population of Virginia City in 1860 were men, outnumbering women
16 to 1, with fifty percent of these men being under the age of 30 (Outline: The
Comstock and Statehood). Though it was recorded that only four percent of women
in the Comstock were in

Robert Frost
The only thing that is constant in the world is change. As Homosapiens have
progressed from primitive hunter gatherers to the biggest apex predators on the
planet, nothing has stayed the same. Some epochs were plagued with war and famine
while others spurred immeasurable innovation. From infinitesimal events to yearlong
world wars, timehas managed to converge to this specific point in the present. Yet
technological progress in the forms of snappier smartphones and virtual reality
goggles have allowed today s inhabitants to forget about real reality and the
countless events that have shaped it. Robert Frost reminds us that time s cyclical
holds both healing and destructive properties in his eloquent poem Spring Pools.
Robert Frost was born in San Francisco on March 26, 1874. He was a farmer, a
father of six children, but important of all he was a poet. He is highly regarded for
his realistic portrayals of rural life and his mastery of American colloquial speech.
His work frequently employed scenarios of rural life in New England at the
beginning of the 20th century, using them to examine complex social and
philosophical issues. Frost was honored frequently during his lifetime, receiving four
Pulitzer prizes for poetryand even a Nobel Prize nominee in literature. He published
Spring Pools in 1929 inside a volume of poems titled West Running Brook. During
this time Frost taught English at Amherst College in Massachusetts. He called his
simplistic use of language as the
Women and the Draft Essay
Women and the Draft
Men have always been looked upon as the leading sex. Looking back through
history women have been the ones who take care of the home and children, while
men are the ones who work and go to war. However in recent years there s no doubt
that women have become much more equal in the work force. Nevertheless men are
still the ones who are forced to fight our wars when the time calls for it. Many think
that women should be entirely equal to men having their choice to be drafted taken
away but the fact is that they are physically at a disadvantage, too emotionally
oriented, and the increase of female presence would have a more negative impact in
the military in the way of social interactions. In the military physical ... Show more

Without a choice women cannot excel to be above average and exceed their natural
capabilities. Another thing that should prevent women to be in the draft is emotion.
Women are complex beings with many chemical emotions causing them to react
differently than men. Women s brains perceive things in a more maternal way there
for they consider circumstances differently. If a situation was complicated and needed
an immediate reaction a woman might not be the right person to make an instant and
thought out decision. She might reflect on it in a way that didn t conjure what the
troop needed at the moment. Women that are forced to be in war can easily get
overwhelmed. Men can come through due to instinct after hundreds of years of
being the ones who take care of the physical and difficult tasks at hand but women
might not be as likely to react logically and can be easily inundated by the stress.
Having maternal instinct rather than survival technique can be a vast disadvantage in
combat causing emotion to be a handicap. An additional item that can cause a
shortcoming in the military is social interaction with women and men. In our
society today women are progressively moving up the ladder in all aspects of our
country and this is a recent change. Most are used to seeing women be the stay at
home mom and men being the ones who work
I Feel That This Assessment Overall Went Pretty Well
I feel that this assessment overall went pretty well. Miss. S. had me work with three
students individually, and these students ranged from high performance to low
performance. I thought this was a good choice so I could experience difference
between the different developmental levels of the students. I performed the
assessment on October 14th of 2016, in Miss. S s classroom during the students free
choice time. Of the three students that participated, one of the students receives
speech therapy. The first student that I assessed was Child 1, and he doesn t receive
extra services. Johnathan did really well overall, but did struggle with some words. I
feel that Johnathan could have taken his time more and really focused on sounding
the words out before saying what he thought they were. I did noticed that the mixed

Johnathan had trouble with the wordyou. When he started to spell the word he
started with OU, but then he corrected himself and spelt the word correctly. I still
marked the word as incorrect since he started spelling the word wrong. The second
student that I assessed was Child 2, and he receives speech therapy. I didn t
complete the assessment because Derek was struggling and wasn t close to saying
the words that I was pointing to. When saying some of the words he was either
correct or very close. With some of the words he was questioning himself whether he

Agape By Greek Summary
Slide 1:
Nisan
In English, there is only one word for love. In Greek, there are three. Eros is the
physical love, Philia is brotherly love, or sisterly love shared amongst siblings and
close friends. Agape is a love that gives and asks nothing in return.
All three can be experienced in different varieties, but each carries great burdens. Eros
must remember that the other is a living, breathing being, not just an object. Philia
must not take unjust, selfish advantage of the other. Agape does all those things
above and much more, with no expectation of return. Agape is a love that does not
require that the other should meet high standards of beauty, nor of brains, nor of
brawn. Agape gives without question, or reason, a God love, you might say,
something that Hephaestus wasn t seen as worthy of.

One can see why Disney wanted to take the idea of Hercules and adapt it into a
super hero film at a time when Disney had mostly leading ladies or the Disney
princesses in the early to late nineties excluding Aladdin. Hercules is a Greek myth

Forum melded several traditional comedic styles. Forum successfully makes use of
sexual innuendos, one liners, and double takes along with many traditional slapstick
situations often found in ancient texts. In the musical, we also find many examples
of well rehearsed comedic action (lazzi) typical to Commedia dell arte, a comedic
device often employed in vaudeville productions. Perhaps as an ode to that style of
performance, the creators based the title of the musical on a line that vaudeville
comedians commonly used to begin their routine: A funny thing happened on the way

Descriptive Words for Wine
DESCRIPTIVE WORDS FOR WINE
Wine tasting, as a production control technique, depends upon converting into words
the impression created by the reaction of the wine on the taster s palate. In order
that one wine, tasted by several individuals, be reported in the same way by each, it
is necessary that all of the tasters use the same words for the separate palate
impressions the wine creates. The terms used in sensory examination fall naturally
under the four headings of appearance, color, taste and odor.
I.APPEARANCE: The appearance of a wine is judged upon whether or not the wine
seems clear or contains sediment or suspended material of a colloidal or larger
particle size.

Aroma and Bouquet Odors: The term aroma is reserved to describe those pleasant
and desirable odors which are characteristic of the unfermented grape. Fermentation
aroma refers to the additional odors present in the wine after fermentation.
Fermentation aroma may consist of the odors from the fermentation by products
common to all fermentations and the odors from the substances produced by the
action of the yeast and the basic aroma substances in the grapes. Bouquet refers to the
odors produced by the interactions of the aroma substances with the container, with a
small quantity of oxygen, and with one another. One can distinguish tank aging
bouquet from bottle bouquet. It is particularly during long bottled aging of suitable
red tables wines, that pronounced bouquet develops.
1.Aroma: a)Varietal: Certain of the grape varieties, when grown under optimum
conditions, have aromas which are characteristic of the particular variety. While
some of these characteristic varietal odors may be described as smelling like some
other fruit or in general terms, it is felt that the varietal aromas are basic to sensory
examination and that they should stand as such. Trained enologists should have a
built in impression of the basic aromas of those varieties in which the aroma is easily
detectable, so that when confronted with an unknown sample, they are capable of
recognizing and identifying the aroma. Some of the varieties considered

BAB I TINJAUAN UMUM TEORITIS 1.1.Definisi / Pengertian 1.1.1.Definisi Iklan

Ancient Mesopotamia Geography
The geographical location was an important factor in many of the ancient
civilizations. Where the people settled determined whether they would have success
at surviving. Both Mesopotamia and Egypt were ancient civilizations founded in
roughly the same longitude and latitude area of the world. Hot dry areas full of
dessert. What drew early civilizations to settle on these locations was the same for
both places, land near water that was good for planting. What is different about each
location is what makes these two early civilizations vastly different yet extremely
important to our world today, the natural resources and the way the early settlers
utilized them. Both Mesopotamiaand Egypt were founded near large rivers. To be a

Egypt also had Oasis s, where natural water can be found in the middle of the
desert. Some settlers settled around the Oasis because of the fresh supply of water.
The nomadic travelers moved their herds of animals through the desert did so
from Oasis to Oasis. Another key geographical feature of Egypt is the Sinai
Peninsula which is in the northernmost portion of Egypt that it connects that main
area to the Red Sea. The ancient Egyptians referred to the fertile area along the
Nile river bank as the black land and the desert as the red land. Egypt has flooding
from the Nile that brings the silt which is black to the riverbanks making the land
extremely fertile and very easy to plant in. This afforded Egyptians the opportunity
to plant many farms with crops as well as provide the necessary nutrients to have
farms with animals. What is a major difference between the Egyptian and
Mesopotamia civilizations is the difference in the natural resources. Mesopotamia
had a limited resources, Egypt had best amounts of resources, such as minerals,
limestone, gold and other very valuable precious metals and stones. These resources
the provided the Egyptian people with many things to trade and it helped set the
course for the type of life that the Egyptian lived. Mesopotamia peoples had to make
do with what the land provided. These abundant Egyptian
Film Analysis Of The Movie Inception
The film Inception captured the imagination of many spectators as one of the best
science fiction and thriller movies to be produced that year. It was produced and
directed by Christopher Nolan who also directed The Dark Knight, Interstellar, and
Dunkirk. Inception is based on the basic inspiration that a single idea in an individual
s mind can be either the most valuable asset or the most dangerous weapon.
Inception is a science fiction thriller movie. This genre deals with situations and
technology that would be classified as scientific, but does not exist in real life.
Inception connects with this because of the technology they used to enter the dreams.
Although it was never explained, the machine seems to pump somnacin into the body.
Somnacin is a drug utilized to initiate dream sharing and lucid dreaming. The movie
is also classified as a thriller because of the exciting plot. It has intense chase
scenes, gun fire, explosions, and fight scenes all within the dream state. The
expectation for the movie based on the trailer would be constant action. It seems that
the main character is away from his family and is trying to get home, but the only
way he can is to do one last job. In the trailer the statement your mind is the scene of
the crime is shown, this indicates that most of the content will be in the dreams of the
subject.
Inception is about as many as four levels of dreams within dreams, and dreams that
eclipse reality. There seem to be two themes discussed in
Key Characteristics of Gothic Architecture
What architectural changes were necessary in the shift from Romanesque to Gothic
cathedrals in Europe and what inspirational changes influenced these changes?
A.Plan of Investigation
This investigation s purpose is to analyze the changes in the architectural technique of
the Romanesque style of architecture and come to a conclusion as to whether the shift
in technique led to the rise of the more grandiose Gothic architecture in Europe. All
art is inspired and the influences that caused the change in technique will also be
investigated. In order to come to a conclusion I read books on the two styles I
compared, studied some examples of each form of architecture through photographs,
and listened to a few podcasts on the topic. Many of the ... Show more content on

Flying buttresses such as the ones featured in the Chartres cathedral provided
additional support outside of the building. The walls of Gothic cathedrals were
relatively thin and the buildings themselves were hollow. With the much more
slender skeleton, architects were able to add larger windows to the buildings. The
insides of Gothic cathedrals were very well lit due to the abundance of large stained
glass windows. Gothic cathedrals were known for the light that was let in as it made
them look like heaven. (differencebetween.net)
People during both the Romanesque and Gothic period were obsessed with heights.
Buildings were desired to reach the limit of their heights. (Tripathi) Both had the goal
of reaching the heavens and being grander than the previous wooden roof churches.
The answer medieval architects came to was to build a stronger support system made
of arches. What differentiated the two was how the architects implemented the arches.
C.Evaluation of Sources
One of the sources used is the book A Concise History of Western Architecture by
R. Furneaux Jordan. The book was published in the US in 1970 with the purpose of
providing a reference and putting together information about the different types of
architecture in the West. A limitation of this source is that it is not an up to date
source having been published over 40 years ago. The value, however, comes from the
fact that it had the ability to

Total Institution Research Paper
Total Institutions A total institution is defined as a place of work and residence
where a great number of similarly situated people, cut off from the wider
community for a considerable time, together lead an enclosed, formally
administered round of life. In others words this means a group of people who have
been separated from the rest of society and every decision in their life is made for
them by people in charge. The end goal of total institutions is socialization which is
taking away old norms, values, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors from people. Total
institutions destruct the old self concept of people. This whole process can be done
in several ways/ Personal possessions are replaced with standard issued items that

Their life routine is completely changed and slipped over. They are now following
the rules set for them. Examples of this would be that their is a set schedule for all
residents. They are all woken up at the same time, they all go eat breakfast, lunch,
dinner at the same times. These people do not get a very large choice of what they
will be getting to eat. Residents have to ask to go to the bathrooms and be assisted
in going to the bathroom. If they are caught doing something alone that they could
potentially hurt themselves their would be a speech given to them about having to
call for help before doing something. Re socialization occurs in this facility by
getting the residents to follow the rules of therapy for example. Even if the residents
do not want to exercise the therapists will get them up and have them do what they
want. Residents are forced to take the medicine that were prescribed for them at the
times the CMT s will give it to them. Even though this is all being done for the
residents own good, they lack very much decision making in their time here. Total
institutions break people down and build them up with new norms, beliefs, and
behaviors. Nursing homes definitely meet the criteria for a total institution due to the
fact that they make up the schedule when everything needs to be done, they make up
the rules for how things will be done, and the residents are expected to follow these
rules and
Maurice Sendak s The Giving Tree And Where The Wild
Things...
Seminar 2
One theme that I saw in both The Giving Tree and Where the Wild Things Are was
mistreating others. In both books the boys mistreat people and things around them
and take them for granted. It can be so easy to treat people badly so we must be
aware of how we treat the people and things around us. In the book Where the Wild
Things Are the author Maurice Sendak writes his main character to be very rude to
his mother and later he also mistreats the monsters. In the book The Giving Tree the
author Shel Silverstein has the main character mistreat the tree. Both these books
follow young boys who don t seem to be well at heart. They also share a similarity
in who they mistreat. One of the people Max mistreats is him mother and the boy
mistreats his friend who he used to love very much. Both these characters were
hurting people who were close to them. Although they share this theme it is still
different. While Sendak writes about Max in his young age, Silverstein ages the
boy in his book. This shows that the evil in the boy follows him. Max could just be
the way he is because of his age, Sendak doesn t continue the story for us to know if
Max s bad characteristic shadow him though his growth, but we see that it does with
the boy from the giving tree. Another difference was that Max was told that what he
was doing was wrong, his mother yelled at him when he mistreated her. On the other
hand, the tree was happy to help the boy. Max goes on to mistreat the monsters while

Carbon Dioxide And Its Impact On Society
Everyday society evolves, new technologies and ideas are born, although life seems
perfect there are many reasons to be scared. Ever since the industrial revolution
started the production of carbon dioxide has gone up in tremendous quantities.
Because of this increase in greenhouse gases the earth has experienced drastic
changes. These changes are the reason for why humanity should be scared, humans
have control of many things but weather and natural disasters are not something we
can control. On the other hand, society has taken steps to diminish the production of
carbon dioxide, although this process may take time to make a significant impact it
provides humanity with a reason to feel like our situation will improve. It is easy to
feel good about these current efforts towards resolving climate change. However, to
make a serious impact on the problem, we need to diminish our carbon dioxide
footprint significantly, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, governments have taken steps towards an eco friendlier world; such
efforts will not make an impact fast enough to reverse the damage already done to
this planet. A perfect example of how these steps are meaningless is that in
December, nearly 200 countries met in order find an agreement that reduces the
damage being done to our planet. However, according to Margo Oge, the former
director of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality of the Environmental
Protection Agency, she stated that back in the United States, the Congressional
Republicans have been in denial and are pushing for Congress and the Senate to
repeal the agreement that the 200 countries initially pushed for. This shows that
although there are people who wish to make a difference, there is always a strong
organization or corporation who will push for the repeal of any mandate that could

Perspectives on Modern (Obscene) Pornography
March 7, 2005
Introduction In the coming paragraphs, I will prove that Ronald Dworkin s criticisms
and critiques of Catherine Mackinnon s views towards pornography and society are
largely unfounded and immaterial, and that government intervention via legislation is
required in the protection of women s interests. I will begin by explaining Catherine
Mackinnon s opinion and support for the Butler decision and thereafter, I will discuss
Ronald Dworkin s critique of it. After outlining their positions, I will proceed to
highlight the areas of incommensurability between their arguments. My perspective ...

She comments that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms provides not only
formative but substantial protection from inequalities. Unlike the U.S., Mackinnon
comments that the Canadian system seeks to alter the poor treatment of
disadvantaged groups and amend their status.[6] The Court utilized this approach in
the case of R v. Butler where it recognized that the humiliation, degradation, and
subordination of women was harm to society as a whole as it led to an inequality.[7]
In other words, the court recognized the social and communal harm imposed by
pornography, that is to say it recognized the context under which the pornography
occurred. Recognizing not only the harm from pornography but more importantly the
inequality that it perpetuates, the Canadian courts ruled in an opposite manner to
their U.S counterparts. At one point, Mackinnon wonders what warrants the
restriction of freedom of speech in the US. One judge once wrote, fear of serious
injury cannot alone justify the suppression of free speech . She points out that it is
this exact fear a fear of serious injury which justifies the government s prohibition on
child pornography.[8] She continues that it is the plight of the abused, which is
frequently trivialized in the United States. Those who are assaulted are told to accept
the freedom of your abusers and that you are not really being hurt .[9] But one of the
most important differences
The Tempest Research Paper
Shakespeare is considered one of the greatest writers of all time. One of his
comedic works The Tempest is a great play of his. The characters are truly timeless,
and their qualities can be compared to qualities of people now. The character
Caliban, a slave of Prospero and son of Sycorax with disfigured looks, could be
argued as a man or a monster. Caliban is a monster with human qualities he has
been affected by his surroundings to become the way he is and I think that
Shakespeare intended readers to wonder whether Caliban is fully human or beast.
Caliban has been affected by his surroundings and the people around him. When
you first got here you petted and took care of me, you would give me water........ I
showed you all the features of the island Caliban says (Act I Scene II). Caliban is
arguing with Prospero about the fact that Prospero treats him horribly, but he has a
reason. Caliban had attempted to rape Miranda which was a cruel act making him
both a monster for doing so and showing that he has been affected by the people
around him. Caliban was born into being a monster as he is the son of the witch
sycorax. Caliban came to the way he is because of the effect others had on Caliban....

  • 2. Analysis Of The Invention Of Wings Sue Monk Kidd s The Invention of Wings is a riveting tale of equality, the struggle of freedom, and friendship. The story revolves around Sarah Grimke and her slave Handful that she was given on her eleventh birthday. From a young age, Sarah begins to understand the consequences of slave inhumanity and this disturbs her daily life. After watching a slave being punished, she was left scarred and develops a speech impediment. As Sarah proceeds through her life, she comes across important life occasions such as death, extrusion, and heartbreak. Sarah s relationship with Handful has its ups and downs. As children, they were very close and the idea of owning Handful weighs a toll on her. As she continues through the stages of her life, she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Charlotte s passion in driving emancipation was not only portrayed through her storytelling, but also her quilts. The black triangles sewn onto the quilt represent freedom and blackbird wings. This obviously was such a big part in Handful s life as well because later in the novel when she sews a quilt for Denmark Vesey, the same black triangles that her mother had sewn years before were symbolized again. At the end of the novel when Handful and Sky escape, they take Charlotte s original quilt with the wings on it to the North with them. Handful also references hearing the blackbird wings as she escapes to the north at the end of the novel. There are two unambiguous themes that the book center around: friendship and equality. As a reader, both of these themes encapsulate the reader as the novel progresses and almost allow the reader to have a personal connection with the characters. Unlike other novels that only show positives and joyful experiences, Handful and Sarah experience a roller coaster of a friendship because of their differing backgrounds. Both of these characters must overcome their own issues, which sometimes created distance and heartache between the two. In part one of the novel, Handful talks about a pure love between her and Sarah and it shows their innocence as children and the friendship that they both had: People say love gets fouled by a difference big as ours. • 4. The Plot Against People Analysis In The Plot Against People , Baker made light of common annoyances in inanimate objects by using irony, mood, and personification. For example, he created a mood of humor to further stress how everyday objects plot against us. He did this by using phrases such as ...furnaces, gloves, and pliers are incredibly stupid (Baker 45 46). In addition, he uses personification to persuade readers how objects are plotting against humans. For example, Baker stated that It is not uncommon for a pair of pliers to climb all the way from the cellar to the attic in its single minded determination to raise its owner s blood pressure (Baker 27 30). This demonstrates to readers how pliers end up annoying humans. In addition, the author conveys his purpose of making light of common annoyances by using imagery. He used an eerie mood to communicate the dangers of fate by describing the death of Herbert, Mr. and Mrs. White s son. Herbert died because Mr. White interfered with fate by making a wish using the monkey s paw. Jacobs also used imagery to tell his story of fate. He used imagery when he described Mr. White reluctantly going to the parlour to make a second wish with the monkey s paw. This imagery paints a vivid picture of the dangers of interfering with fate by describing Mr. White s fear to use the monkey s paw again. Another way he persuaded us was through personification. When Mr. White made the first wish, Jacob s wrote, As I wished, it [the monkey s paw] moved in my hand like a snake (Jacobs 4). The personification of the monkey s paw reiterates Jacob s belief that interfering with fate by making the wish is dangerous. Jacob s used imagery, mood, and personification to convey the dangers of

Born on June 17, 1987 to couple who moved from Chicago to Compton with only $500 to their names in order to escape the gang lifestyle, Lamar was exposed to guns, drugs, and violence at a young age. I m 6 years old, seein my uncles playing with shotguns, sellin dope in front of the apartment. Lamar witnessed his first murder outside his family s apartment when he was 5 years old a teenager gunned down while selling drugs. Although Lamar was never affiliated with a gang, his whereabouts did put him into a few tense situations with gang members; in the song Average Joe, Lamar recounts his experience being shot at by a group of Crips simply because of the neighborhood in which he lived. But instead of being caught up in the whirlpool of gang banging that takes the lives of so many young Compton residents before him, he used his experiences as motivation and fodder for exploding music career. As a kid living in one of the most violent cities in America, Lamar kept a low profile. He made good grades in school and generally kept to himself a habit he would soon be forced to overcome. One example being when Lamar knew the answer to a math problem during class, but he was too

In the Gospel of John, Jesus communicates the demands of being a shepherd of church. I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd (John 10:14 16). This passage models the expectations for those who minister, both pastors and lay ecclesial ministers, to the faithful. We are called to lead the faithful to deeper love and knowledge of the Lord. • 8. Misleading Interpretations of Conrad s Heart of Darkness... Misleading Interpretations of Conrad s Heart of Darkness Chinua Achebe, a well known writer, once gave a lecture at the University of Massachusetts about Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, entitled An Image of Africa: Racism in Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Throughout his essay, Achebe notes how Conrad used Africa as a background only, and how he set Africa up as a foil to Europe, (Achebe, p.251) while he also projects the image of Africa as the other world, the antithesis of Europe and therefore of civilization. (Achebe, p.252) By his own interpretations of the text, Achebe shows that Conrad eliminates the African as a human factor, thereby reducing Africa to the role of props. (Achebe, p.257) In supporting these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 284) In comparing the two views, one must step back and consider that both views are only interpretations on what Conrad may have intended. Since no one can ever really know what his actual meanings were for these two women being so similar (in their movements), and yet so different (in their character), only individual explanation can be brought up. This in particular, is what brings me to question both Achebe and Sarvan s points. By reorganizing Conrad s descriptive words, Sarvan was able to propose that Conrad did not intend for the mistress to be perceived as the savage counterpart. (Achebe, p. 255) Yet, at the same time, both Sarvan and Achebe each write about what they think to be the right thing. It seems to me that Achebe was looking for racism in this short novel, and that Sarvan was so taken back by Achebe s accusations, that he himself, went and looked for ways to defend Conrad. However, this particular shortcoming of the native woman, is not the only one that Achebe finds. As stated earlier, communication is very important in our society and to civilization (as known by the Europeans of the time). While reading Heart of Darkness, I noticed a significant difference in the levels of communication that were allotted between the Europeans and the Africans. This drastic difference in speech was at the core

  • 10. Ivan Niven s Proof Of Pi Being Irrational Ivan Niven s Proof of Pi Being Irrational The proof of pi being irrational can be done by contradiction. To do this, Niven first assumed that ПЂ =a / b, for relatively prime integers, a and b. He then created a polynomial function of power 2n that depends on the constant a and b. Next, define the polynomial for a constant integern, which Ivan Niven used in his proof: This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One property is that when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(ПЂ x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a bx)n, the term (a bx)n can be expanded into a new polynomial with integer coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the binomial theorem. Lastly, Niven showed how the integral of f(x) sin(x) cannot always be an integer for all n values. Since sin(x) is always bounded between 0 and 1 when x is bounded between 0 and ПЂ, it can be stated that f(x) sin(x) f(x). Niven used what he has stated before: f(x) = xn(a bx)n/n!, and showed how that (a bx) a when x is bounded between 0 and ПЂ. From this Niven stated that must be a smaller value than (a)n. Similarly, when x is bounded between 0 and ПЂ, the term xn must be between 0 and ПЂn. Niven took all of these properties and functions and stated

Albert Durer s Whore Of Babylon Albert Durer s Whore of Babylon, from the Apocalypse The Whore of Babylon woodcut by Albert Durer was one of fifteen woodcuts in his famous series, The Apocalypse which was published in 1498. This woodcut series portrays scenes from the book of Revelation in the bible, concerning the end of the world. It was created at a time when Europe anticipated the Last Judgement , as Germany was experiencing plagues, religious debates, and peasant movements towards the end of the 15th century. Durer became wealthy and rapidly well known across Europe because of this series. He began working on these woodcuts on his trip to Italy in 1494 1495, and the first two editions were published in 1498 in Nuremberg, Germany, in both German and Latin. He later ... The medium used for an engraving is metal and is created using an intaglio method. Unlike the relief process of printmaking, this process is a positive one. The artist scratches the image onto the metal plate, inks the surface of it, and wipes it clean. As a result, ink is placed into the carved out drawing. Next, the plate is run through a roller press which causes the ink to absorb to the paper. The difference in appearance between a relief print and an intaglio print is because of essentially drawing the image to be created onto the metal plate for an intaglio print. Also cross hatching, the use of fine parallel lines to create the illusion of shade, allowed for more subtle shading in the engraving. This engraving portrays the melancholy personality of artists and Durer, himself. It is suggested that the winged figure represents Durer because of the location of his monogram or logo underneath the bench that figure is sitting on. Her pondering stance represents an artistic genius who is looking for inspiration, but cannot find it, therefore experiences despair in her/himself. The winged child sitting to the left of the winged female, represents anxiety that the uninspired artist could be experiencing. In addition, in the upper left corner, a bat is found with the words melencholia beside it. The bat represents melancholy because it only appears or comes out at night and is linked with the darkness. Durer contrasts melancholy and the light of inspiration by associating this bat in the dark sky with rays of light. Essentially, because of the wood medium used in the Whore Of Babylon, lines appear broader, whereas using metal as a medium allowed the Melencollia engraving to display more subtle lines and

Education has been one of the most important constitutional amendments that every society has. In this scene we discover Iago s hate towards Othello and his motives to ruin him; one of them being Othello s recent promotion of Michael Cassio to the post of lieutenant. In spite of Iago s service in battle and the recommendation from the three great ones of the city , Othello chose to give the position to a Florentine that never set a squadron in the field . Iago only follows Othello to serve my turn upon him . Iago is shown to be looking out for his own self interest whilst pretending to serve Othello. Classification of the genus Homo into species and subspecies remains poorly defined and subject to incomplete information, leading to difficulties in binomial naming, and the use of common names, such as Neanderthal and Denisovan . With that being said, many people get a misunderstanding when discussing our homo ancestors. The biggest issue is knowing what a species are actually apart of the genus homo and who isn t. Homo habilis had smaller molars and larger brains than the australopithecines, and made tools from stone and perhaps animal bones. One of the first known hominids, it was nicknamed handy man by discoverer Louis Leakey due to its association with stone tools. Some scientists have proposed moving this species out of Homo and into Australopithecus due to the morphology of its skeleton being more adapted to living on trees rather than to moving on two legs like Homo sapiens. Homo rudolfensis findings in Kenya have been suggested to be Homo habilis, but scientists are unsure. The fossils found from these two species are said to be from about 1.8 million years ago. Homo georgicus, named after the country Georgia, is said to possibly be an intermediate form between Homo erectus and Homo habilis or a sub species of Homo erectus. Homo erectus lived from about 1.8 million to about 70,000 years ago. Many scientist believe that the early stages of erectus, about 1.8 to 1.2 million years ago, is a separate species called Homo ergaster, seen as a sub species of erectus. In the early Pleistocene, 1.5 1 Ma, in Africa some populations of Homo habilis are thought to have evolved more complex brains and made more elaborate stone tools; these differences and others are sufficient for anthropologists to classify them as a new species, Homo erectus. • 23. Potiential Future Effects of Global Warming Introduction Climate change is one the biggest threats to nature and mankind in the 21st century. The impacts of climate change are visible everywhere, whether it s melting glaciers, rising sea level, severe storms, heavy flooding, reduced snowfall in the north and a severe drought in the south. It will also have a number of effects on the flora and fauna in the future. Scientists predict that global warming in the near future may cause a mass extinction of wildlife, affecting more than 1 million species, i.e. about a quarter of all kinds of currently known. World overheating causes significant changes in climatic conditions and it can damage sensitive ecosystems in which species live. Sea level rise is a potentially disastrous result of climate change. Glaciers melt because of the rising temperatures and ocean waters warm. Therefore, small island developing states and low lying coastal areas are particularly vulnerable to sea level rise and climatechange. The more sea levels will rise, the harder will be the situation for the coastal cities, and will be more impressive to erosion prone coast. Group discussion involves the deliverance of medical information or education to a small group of individuals which may include their family so information, opinions can be exchanged with the nurse. This is simple way to deliver information to more than one person at one time if time management is a concern, and the nurse is able to build trust and rapport with the group as a whole. From infinitesimal events to yearlong world wars, timehas managed to converge to this specific point in the present. Yet technological progress in the forms of snappier smartphones and virtual reality goggles have allowed today s inhabitants to forget about real reality and the countless events that have shaped it. Robert Frost reminds us that time s cyclical holds both healing and destructive properties in his eloquent poem Spring Pools. Robert Frost was born in San Francisco on March 26, 1874. He was a farmer, a father of six children, but important of all he was a poet. He is highly regarded for his realistic portrayals of rural life and his mastery of American colloquial speech. However in recent years there s no doubt that women have become much more equal in the work force. Nevertheless men are still the ones who are forced to fight our wars when the time calls for it. In the military physical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without a choice women cannot excel to be above average and exceed their natural capabilities. Another thing that should prevent women to be in the draft is emotion. Women are complex beings with many chemical emotions causing them to react differently than men. Women s brains perceive things in a more maternal way there for they consider circumstances differently. If a situation was complicated and needed an immediate reaction a woman might not be the right person to make an instant and thought out decision. She might reflect on it in a way that didn t conjure what the troop needed at the moment. Women that are forced to be in war can easily get overwhelmed. Men can come through due to instinct after hundreds of years of being the ones who take care of the physical and difficult tasks at hand but women might not be as likely to react logically and can be easily inundated by the stress. Having maternal instinct rather than survival technique can be a vast disadvantage in combat causing emotion to be a handicap. An additional item that can cause a shortcoming in the military is social interaction with women and men. In our society today women are progressively moving up the ladder in all aspects of our country and this is a recent change. Most are used to seeing women be the stay at home mom and men being the ones who work

  • 38. Agape By Greek Summary Slide 1: Nisan In English, there is only one word for love. In Greek, there are three. Eros is the physical love, Philia is brotherly love, or sisterly love shared amongst siblings and close friends. Agape is a love that gives and asks nothing in return. All three can be experienced in different varieties, but each carries great burdens. Eros must remember that the other is a living, breathing being, not just an object. Philia must not take unjust, selfish advantage of the other. Agape does all those things above and much more, with no expectation of return. Agape is a love that does not require that the other should meet high standards of beauty, nor of brains, nor of brawn. Inception is a science fiction thriller movie. This genre deals with situations and technology that would be classified as scientific, but does not exist in real life. Inception connects with this because of the technology they used to enter the dreams. Although it was never explained, the machine seems to pump somnacin into the body. Somnacin is a drug utilized to initiate dream sharing and lucid dreaming. The movie is also classified as a thriller because of the exciting plot. It has intense chase scenes, gun fire, explosions, and fight scenes all within the dream state. The expectation for the movie based on the trailer would be constant action. The walls of Gothic cathedrals were relatively thin and the buildings themselves were hollow. With the much more slender skeleton, architects were able to add larger windows to the buildings. The insides of Gothic cathedrals were very well lit due to the abundance of large stained glass windows. Gothic cathedrals were known for the light that was let in as it made them look like heaven. (differencebetween.net) People during both the Romanesque and Gothic period were obsessed with heights. Buildings were desired to reach the limit of their heights. (Tripathi) Both had the goal of reaching the heavens and being grander than the previous wooden roof churches. The answer medieval architects came to was to build a stronger support system made of arches. What differentiated the two was how the architects implemented the arches. They also share a similarity in who they mistreat. One of the people Max mistreats is him mother and the boy mistreats his friend who he used to love very much. Both these characters were hurting people who were close to them. Although they share this theme it is still different. While Sendak writes about Max in his young age, Silverstein ages the boy in his book. This shows that the evil in the boy follows him. She comments that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms provides not only formative but substantial protection from inequalities. Unlike the U.S., Mackinnon comments that the Canadian system seeks to alter the poor treatment of disadvantaged groups and amend their status.[6] The Court utilized this approach in the case of R v. Butler where it recognized that the humiliation, degradation, and subordination of women was harm to society as a whole as it led to an inequality.[7] In other words, the court recognized the social and communal harm imposed by pornography, that is to say it recognized the context under which the pornography occurred. Recognizing not only the harm from pornography but more importantly the inequality that it perpetuates, the Canadian courts ruled in an opposite manner to their U.S counterparts. At one point, Mackinnon wonders what warrants the restriction of freedom of speech in the US. One judge once wrote, fear of serious injury cannot alone justify the suppression of free speech . She points out that it is this exact fear a fear of serious injury which justifies the government s prohibition on child pornography.[8] She continues that it is the plight of the abused, which is frequently trivialized in the United States. Those who are assaulted are told to accept the freedom of your abusers and that you are not really being hurt .[9] But one of the most important differences
