Ice Hockey Vs. Roller Hockey Essay
Despite the fact that ice hockey and roller hockey both have the word hockey in common, there
are extreme differences between the two sports. There are the obvious differences like one being
played on ice and the other on a plastic surface, but many of the differences are only noticed by
people that have played both sports.
As everyone knows, ice hockey is played on ice, which makes it an extremely high paced game.
Unlike ice hockey, Roller hockey is played on a plastic floor that consists of many six inch by six
inch tiles. The plastic floor makes roller hockey a much slower paced game than ice hockey. The
reason that roller hockey is so much slower than ice hockey is because there is more friction. The
friction is produced in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An ice hockey game consists of five players and a goalie per team on the ice. Roller hockey
however, only has four players and a goalie. In ice hockey there are blue lines, which are
approximately one third of the way up the rink from each end. The blue lines are used to create
zones on the ice surface. If an offensive player enters the other team s defensive zone before the
puck, the play is whistled dead and it is called off sides. On the other hand in roller hockey, there
are no such blue lines. Not having blue lines makes the game much more wide open, which allows
players to hang at the other team s net, unlike ice hockey.
Another rule of ice hockey is icing, this is when a player shoots the puck from one end of the ice
to the other end and no one touches it. In roller hockey there is no rule for icing; instead players
are allowed to dump the puck from one end of the floor to the other. Both sports do enforce the
same penalties though. For example, both ice and roller hockey referees will call penalties for
tripping, slashing, roughing, etc.
Hockey does not only consist of players shooting the puck up and down the ice. There is more to
hockey than that. The most important aspect of the game is the player s mentality. Ice hockey and
roller hockey player s mentalities differ slightly. In ice hockey, players are told to stay in their
position. For example, a right winger is supposed to stay along the

He explains the fall and collapse of the Anasazi and their Neighbors. Jared Diamond explains that
the Anasazi experienced hostile neighbors, which means trade between the two civilizations was
cut off by a series of conflicts or just a conflict. The Anasazi also experienced environmental
problems and dramatic climate change. Which ruined their crops and made an even higher
demand for water. These are the reasons why the Anasazi collapsed. Another one of Jared
Diamonds most explored and passionate topics is the demise of the Maya. The Mayan were once a
great civilization in modern day Mexico. But with many problems facing the once great civilization
started to deteriorate. The Mayan civilization started to face many many environmental damage,
dramatic climate change, and hostile neighbors that cut off trade routes and exchange of goods

Principles of Choosing a Null Hypothesis
In the earlier post about bioequivalence, I briefly mentioned the formulation of hypotheses for
testing bioequivalence. The null hypothesis states Bio inequivalence , while the alternative states
Bioequivalence , as formulation (I).
H0: bio inequivalence; Ha: bioequivalence (I)
One might argue that the null and alternative hypotheses are incorrectly reversed, since what we
generally do is to put statements like no difference , no effect , equivalent , or equal to 175 lbs as
null hypotheses. Is this argument correct? To answer this question, we need to answer the simple
yet fundamental question: how are the hypotheses established.
Let s first be clear of what a null hypothesis is. According to Wikipedia, as quoted below.
In statistical inference of observed data of a scientific experiment, the null hypothesis refers to a
general or default position: that there is no relationship between two measured phenomena,[1] or
that a potential medical treatment has no effect.[2] Rejecting or disproving the null hypothesis and
thus concluding that there are grounds for believing that there is a relationship between two
phenomena or that a potential treatment has a measurable effect is a central task in the modern
practice of science, and gives a precise sense in which a claim is capable of being proven false.
The definition gives several clues to choosing a null hypothesis. I try to summarize the rules of
choosing a null hypothesis as the three following

Online Therapy Sites
Online Therapy Sites
Online therapy is professional counseling services that are offered over the internet. Online therapy
allows clients and professionals to communicate over the internet without having to communicate in
the traditional office visits. In addition, online therapy allows clients and patients to attend online
counseling in which the clients will feel more comfortable and less intimidated.
On the other hand, clients are more likely to be open and honest when communicating through
online sessions. As a result, counselors will be able to provide better and more effective treatment
options and plans for the clients. Furthermore, online therapy is available to clients who have

Before beginning the online process, each client has to fill out an online questionnaire. Once
Jacqueline receives the client s questionnaire, she will then review it and provide suggestions.
Clients can e mail her as many times as they would like. Furthermore, if a client wants to
communicate over the phone, then Jackie will prepare a different schedule for the clients in which
it is a different process than the online process ( Marriage Matters, LLC Online Counseling , 2013).
Additionally, Jackie provides online counseling that allows clients to work with their spouses
through online interaction. In general, Jackie believes that online counseling works because
clients are able to get assistance quickly about their main concerns. Nevertheless, Jackie feels that
she provides a concrete understanding and provides suggestions and recommendations that will
help clients to clarify, resolve, or improve the situation that is present. Jackie strives at working
with many clients by providing follow up clarification and explanations if need be. This will help
clients to improve their lives and be able to move forward in life without any obstacles.
Furthermore, Jackie feels that online counseling allows clients to take as much time as needed in
order to provide information about their situation and be able to get a quickly respond back. Also,
there are printable documents that clients can review and clients do not need to make any

Misconceptions Of Hypnotism
When people hear the word hypnotism , most of them think that it is somewhat like a trick, a magic
or an illusion. Some of them believe that a simple look at the eyes of a strange person can hypnotize
them. Some of them think that a person who hypnotize uses a pendulum like object that catches the
attention of his victim. Lots of incidents were recorded that hypnotism is said to be used in robbery.
Stories tell that strangers talk to their victims and look at their eyes. They will tell something to
their victims until they become unaware of the things around them, and when they regain
consciousness, they will notice that something s missing from them. This study will help its readers

Essay William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice
William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice

Shylock
Act IV scene 1 is an intense scene in the play where we see many of the play s main themes such
as justice and mercy, money and status, revenge, loyalty, love and prejudice and tolerance.
Shakespeare presents a harsh character in Shylock the Jew, but the fact that he also gives him the

This would suggest that Shakespeare is using Shylock as more than a symbol of Jewishness . In
this piece of coursework I will be examining mainly how sympathetic or unsympathetic the various
versions seem to be and how each Director has succeeded in making the character of Shylock
worthy of Shakespeare s realism.
Jews were traditionally viewed as outsiders and were not citizens. Christians as far back as the
11th century could not lend money without interest and many Jews earned a living from this
profession as they could not join the artisan guilds. As they became their own debt collectors they
soon became the target of resentment. A myth was born; with which Shakespeare s audience would
have been familiar, of ritual murder or blood libel that Jews would kill adult Christians. It is to this
myth to which Shakespeare seems to allude in the pound of flesh incident in this scene.
Shakespeare is original in showing us the extent to which Shylock is oppressed by Christians
surrounding him and it is through this that Shakespeare succeeds in drawing out sympathy from his
audience.
Analysis of Act IV scene 1
In the text of Act IV scene 1 before we meet Shylock he is described as a stony adversary, an
inhuman wretch, incapable of pity, void and empty from any dram of mercy . Antonio describes
Shylock s spirit as being full of tyranny and rage . When Shylock enters

Gun Assault Shootings
More and more often, we are saddened by the news of mass shootings. Whether it takes place in a
school or public area, these shootings are both disastrous and mortifying. Families begin to feel
anger and sadness and demand immediate justice. Although these terrible events continue to
happen, there have been no significant steps taken towards the decrease in the number of
weapons; specifically, assault rifles. This leads one to question do we need to ban the right to own
such weapons? If the possession of these weapons is not made illegal, we run the risk of another
attack. A ban on assault rifles is not the answer because they are not the cause of such events, and it
is a constitutional right to own them.
In 1994, Congress passed the Federal Assault Weapons Banwhich eliminated the manufacturing of
certain assault rifles for private use (Plumer). This bill expired in 2004 and was never redrafted.
Many mass shootings in the last few years, especially ones at Virginia Tech, a movie theater in
Colorado, and Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut, Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Harvest
Music Festival in Las Vegas, First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs have stirred up the
pressure to pass a new bill.
Following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, California Senator, Dianne
Feinstein, drafted a bill to potentially ban the sale, transfer, manufacturing, and importation of
assault rifles. This bill includes a ban on semiautomatic rifles, pistols, shotguns,

Culture And Self Esteem

Assignment # 1
Everyone wonder at least a couple of times in their lifetime on who we are as an individual, self
serving bias and the power of positive thinking. These concepts are brought up in life in a daily
basis. Personally, growing up with different cultural influenced me great deal and I feel like it will
follow through even in my old age. The concepts that I took interest in knowing more is Culture
and Self Esteem, Explaining our Behavior, False Consensus and Uniqueness, Self Esteem
Motivation, Learned Helplessness Vs. Self Determination and Reflections on Self Efficacy. They
make a person understand how a person is socially and how individuals may view themselves
and others. The concept of culture and self esteem is usually connected to what other people
think of you and people in your group (Myers.2012 pg 24). This is the idea about who you are
and your inner self and if you remain stagnant through different situations or activity. In western
culture the idea of culture and self esteem has closely to do with the social circle you hang with
and that is linked with your happiness and positivity. Self esteem is described as how you feel
about yourself as an individual that can be affected by your social circle and environment. This
also correlates with the idea of explaining our behavior, many times we do things very mindlessly,
we don t think at all about our emotions or even actions for that matter. We are more aware of
things happening

Cotton From 1850-1860
Factors that influenced the increased production of cotton from 1800s to the 1860s was different
resources, demand, and advanced technology.
To begin with, natural, human, and capital resources played a huge role in the growth of cotton
production. Land was a very essential natural resource to cotton farmers. With fertile land, farmers
could grow their big business, cotton. Also, because of land, the number of cotton farms in
America began to increase greatly. For instance, in Texas, cotton farms grew an astounding
251.6% from 1850 1860. An important human resource that helped increase cotton manufacture
was slaves. Slaves were needed to pick and plant cotton as it was a long and tedious job. From
1800 1860, the amount of slaves increased 342% and by 1860, the slave population amounted to
over 3 million (Davidson, 388). Money and profit was a very imperative capital resource. After
farmers collected their profits, they would buy more slaves, land, and machinery in hopes of
improving their cotton business and growing more cotton (Davidson, 388 389). ... Show more

The growth of the textile industry in Britain boosted the cotton sales in America. Textile industry
was dependent on cotton and 75% of their cotton came from farms in the South(Dattel). The
demand of cloth also affected the demand of cotton. The North needed cotton for their cloth and
textile industry after it grew during the Industrial Revolution(Dattel). The War of 1812 caused
Americans to start creating their own industries and goods after Britain cut off vital goods out of
the United States. In this period of time, there was a huge demand for cotton as American citizens
standard of living grew. Since there was a huge demand, farmers made a large profit. (Davidson,

A Room With A View Analysis
A Room with a View is a 1908 novel written by E.M. Forster about Lucy Honeychurch, a young
Englishwoman struggling to determine what she truly wants in a society that has strict
expectations for her. While vacationing in Italy, Lucy gets a taste of independence and excitement
as well as meeting her true love George Emerson, only to return to England and become engaged
to Cecil Vyse, a man her family and society deems socially acceptable, but who in reality is dull
and pretentious. Forster contrasts the scenery, culture, and people of Italyand England to
demonstrate how Lucy was able find happinesswhen she ignored familial and societal expectations
and instead listened to what she truly wanted. Italy and England and Lucy s experiences... Show

He views her as a piece of artwork to be owned not a thinking person and is annoyed when she
exhibits her own ideas. For example, Cecil is taken aback by Lucy s distaste for Reverend Eager.
He compares her behavior to seeing the Leonardo on the ceiling of the Sistine (Forster 81).
Overall, Italy provides Lucy with excitement and independence, and upon returning to England
she finds herself to be stifled by its dull familiarity and stiff expectations. On the whole, the
contrast between the two places contributes to the meaning of the work by emphasizing the
importance of defying social convention and expectations in order to discover one s true desires
and happiness. By showing Italy, with its less defined classes and lack of social rigidity, as
bright and exciting, Forster shows how rewarding it is to ignore social roles and be independent.
In Italy, Lucy was able to be independent and explore, therefore making her time in Italy much
more exciting than in England. Similarly, the scenery itself if depicted as more vibrant. The
contrast between Italy s excitement and England s familiarity emphasize how much more
interesting life is for Lucy when she is taking charge. Forster also contrasts the people of Italy and
England. The Italians are very genuine and go after what they want, as opposed to the English
whose actions are dictated by what other may think. An example would be when Phaethon, their
cab driver, boldly kisses

The Last Of The Tudor Dynasty Essay
Nicknamed the Virgin Queen, I, Elizabeth Tudor, have been the one of the longest reigning and
most beloved monarchs of my time. Married to my duty, my people and my country, longing for
no other love, though this means I am to be the last of the Tudor dynasty. Calculated, cunning,
beautiful and brilliant, my life, and reign will be spoken of for years to come. Though born into
royalty, life has been turbulent to say the least, from a young age being shown the wonders and
terrors of the throne. Throughout the span of my life moving from princess, to lady to Queen,
showing that women can indeed be great rulers is a significant consequence of my rule. In order
to understand and appreciate my reign as Queen one must examine my childhood, rise to the
throne and the accomplishments of my rule. My father, Henry VIII had three children, my elder
sister Mary, myself and youngest Edward . Both Edward and I grew up Protestant and without
mothers so we grew quite close. At the age of four Katherine Champernowne, later to become
Katherine Ashley, became my primary caretaker. Katherine was a well educated woman whose
affection and kindness greatly influenced me throughout my life. My third step mother was
Catherine Howard, who was attentive and often playful. The first public dinner with her she had
me sit beside her, a great honor, it was a momentous occasion for my young self. Unfortunately she,
like my own mother, was condemned to death for adultery, when I was only eight years old.

Comparing The Road Not Taken And The Roads Within
In the poem I crafted, The Roads Within , it extend the ideas of the original poem, The Road Not

and paths we take in life. In my poem I enforce that idea in line 4, Long I waited, considering each
choice . Before any one decides to live a certain way they must consider if they would not have
regrets on the life they chose to live. The idea of not being able to go back to the point where the
decision is made is represented in both poems. In line 15, Robert Frost wrote, I doubted if I should

new military leadership was also demanding more funding in exchange for continuous support to

a lesson to the US about not to count on this particular General as a useful/reliable permanent ally.
As the 1985 elections approached, and with reelection prohibited, President Suazo was looking for

George Washington Plunkitt of Tammany Hall
Everybody is talkin these days about Tammany men growin rich on graft, but nobody thinks of
drawin the distinction between honest graft and dishonest graft. With this sentence in the first
chapter Plunkitt sets the tone for his short treatise on New York City politics while Tammany Hall
ran the show. George Washington Plunkittwas a senator in New York during the turn of the 19th
Century to the 20th Century. He was very successful in politics, and at one time he held four

Before civil service reform, elected officials could easily remove anti Tammany city employees
and replace them with Tammany supporters in return for their work during the campaign. This
sort of spoils system encouraged young people to get involved with politics and to love their
country. According to Plunkitt (and he gives many examples) after civil service examinations
young men become anarchists or in the worst case one joins the Spanish army and actually
fights against the same men he used to support and love. Not only did this spoils system
encourage young people, it also helped hold the United States party system together. And that,
according to Plunkitt, would all change if supporters were not rewarded with government jobs
for their work. However, the Civil Service act of 1883 did more to instigate the merit system in
politics than anything else. Plunkitt s arguments against the civil service reforms are amusing but
his generalities make his argument difficult to believe. One would assume that Plunkitt s
motivation for attacking civil service was because of his personal motivation not the reasons
presented in his Very Plain Talks on Very Practical Politics. Plunkitt clearly was a politician for
himself and his supporters, in all he cared very little about the welfare of New York City as a
whole. Other than the curse of civil service, Plunkitt also instructed young men on the tactics and

I have experienced the difficulties and challenges faced with the way this has been in the past. With
this new plan, it will completely eliminate the problems that have occurred from previous training
processes. The company can save themselves many resources implementing a new training program
with the phases: Goals and Objectives, Accessing Company Programs, Hands on workshop, Group
/Teamwork activity, Evaluation and Follow up. Figure 1 shows the schedule of each phase and the

and other employees within the team. These are all miniscule factors in the beginning that will

The goal of this new training program being implemented is to create a better transition and
immediate spark of productive output from new employees. These steps will guide these new
employees through a transition to becoming a veteran of the workplace. The benefits involved
through the implementation is just as much for the managers as the employees themselves.

In 1928, a large amount of pottery, coins, imported goods, tools and other artifacts were discovered

Both Physicians And Patients Rely On The Pharmaceutical
Both physicians and patients rely on the Pharmaceutical industry to adequately provide medication
to address public health concerns ranging from depression to obesity, to name a few. An increased
reliance on medication leads to the creation of one of the largest and most profitable pharmaceutical
corporations to exist across the world. However, because pharmaceutical companies profit from the
drugs they sell, they have incentives to influence the public into buying the drugs they produce; the
main objective of pharmaceutical companies then becomes primarily to maximize profits through
the selling of drugs, while disregarding the well being of the population (Moynihan and Mintzes

In this way, many commercials promote the quick and easy digestibility of the pill/quick relief,
which allows them to serve as ideal consumer items (421). The following ad of Alka Seltzer
exemplifies the easy ingestibilty/immediate relief of the pill: Down, down, down the
stomach...with Alka Seltzer you re sure to say, relief is just a swallow away (421). Hence, the
pills embody healing potencies, which leads people to get prescriptions from doctors because they
believe they have similar symptoms to illnesses portrayed in advertisements. As Leder and Krucoff
talk about the role of pills in the public imagination, from what I understand, they are referring to
how through the media/advertisements, the pill becomes an accepted means to cure virtually any

advertisements dictate that following a vitamin rich regime will prevent future health problems.

and the diversity of its people, makes of Venezuela a beautiful country in South America and around
the world. According to the Venezuelan Government website, Venezuelan history goes back 15,000
to 5.000 years before our era. But the real history begins in the 1400s when Christopher Columbus
became the first Spanish explorer to touch the Venezuelan lands in 1498 (Oberhelman, ph2). Follow
by Spanish conquer Alonso de Ojeda who actually gave the country its name, Venezuela
became
another conquered country with so much hiding treasures not known to the world yet. The country
became a must have by other European nations, including Great Britain who at that time, owned the
country of Guyana which it borders Venezuela. The Spanish conquers remained in Venezuela for
more than 300 years, and it wasn t until 1821 that a man named Simon Bolivar along with other
revolutionaries liberated Venezuela from the Spanish conquers and acquiring independence for the
country. Venezuela is a country that throughout the years has tried to become a democracy country.
In 1998, Hugo Chavez was elected president of Venezuela with the intentions of making a
Venezuela a better country. His intentions were to rewrite a new constitution in order to improve
the state and fight poverty (Coronel, 2008). Years passed and Venezuela has become worst

The Sinking Of The RMS Titanic
In 1912, the RMS Titanic was the largest passenger ship in the world. It was also the most talked
about ship. Everyone spoke of the ship as being one of the strongest ships in the world as well as
the biggest. The sinking of the RMS Titanic was one of, if not the most tragic accident of an
ocean liner in history due to not just its mass death to almost two thirds of the passengers on
board bu also the way it went down. The Titanic was said to be an unsinkable ship. Everyone that
believed the ship was unsinkable was horribly mistaken. The Titanic sank in the early morning
hours of April 15, 1912. More than 1,500 people had lost their lives that fateful morning. It was in
March 1909 that the Titanic was being assembled to be the largest and most elegant passenger ship
in the world. The ship was built in the Harland and Wolff yard in Ireland. The lengthy process of...

room for about a third of them. In 1912, there were not any laws or regulations on needing a seat

some second class passengers, were the first ones allowed to board the lifeboats. They also
integrated the women and children rule when it came to boarding the lifeboats. Not everyone
could be saved that tragic night. Cunard s Carpathia heard Titanic s distress signal around
midnight and came to the rescue, but they could not get to Titanic s location quick enough. The
Titanic sank below the surface at about 2:20 AM on April 15, 1912. Along with the ship, about
1,500 passengers went into the ocean with her. There were not many survivors of those 1,500
people. Most of the dead were third class passengers or those who were staying below deck for

Inclusion in the Classroom Essay
Inclusion in the Classroom Inclusion in classrooms is defined as combining students with
disabilities and students without disabilities together in an educational environment. It provides all
students with a better sense of belonging. They will enable friendships and evolve feelings of being
a member of a diverse community (Bronson, 1999). Inclusion benefits students without disabilities
by developing a sense of helping others and respecting other diverse people. By this, the students
will build up an appreciation that everyone has unique yet wonderful abilities and personalities

The whole child must be planned for, not just the parts that are different, (Deiner, 1999). Inclusive
education facilities give all children a chance to work together and be brought up in a diverse
classroom. Inclusive classrooms will also give all the children a chance to see others differences
and be aware of and accept diversity. Inclusion in classrooms can further benefit the communication
skills and sense of community among students with and without disabilities. Children that learn
together, learn to live together (Bronson, 1999). For students with special needs, inclusive
classrooms provide them with a sense of self belonging. The classrooms provide diverse
environments with which the students will evolve feelings of being a member of a diverse
community (Bronson, 1999). For students without disabilities, they learn to develop appreciation
of the diversity. The classrooms provide many opportunities for the students to experience diversity
and realize that everyone has different abilities that are unique and acceptable. From this realization,
the students will learn to be respectful for others with different characteristics (Bronson, 1999).

Use of Figurative Language in Daddy by Sylvia Plath Essay
The figurative language in the poem Daddy by Sylvia Plath can be used to discover a deeper
significant of the poem. By using figurative language throughout the poem such as symbolism,
imagery, and wordplay, Plath reveals hidden messages about her relationship with her father. Plath
uses symbols of Nazis, vampires, size, and communication to help reveal a message about her dad.
In Plath s poem she frequently uses figurative language about Nazis and the Holocaust. Plath
depicts herself as a victim by saying she is like a Jew, and her father is like a Nazi. Plath uses a
train engine as a metaphor for her father speaking the German Language, and also to depict herself
as a victimized Jew being taken away to a concentration camp. ... Show more content on

Plath uses a hyperbole to drive the point of her father being the epitome of a Nazi by saying the
swastika is so black it blocks out the sky. This extreme exaggeration helps drive across Plath s point
of her father being a complete Nazi. Near the end of the poem another allusion to Hitler is used. I
made a model of you, / a man in black with a Meinkampf look (Plath 64 65). Here the father is
described as a model, and an illusion to Hitler is made when she states he has a Meinkampf look
with Mein Kampf being a book written by Hitler. Plath s use of figurative language helps give a
clear image of her relationship with her father and shows how she depicts him to be like a Nazi.
Plath uses the symbol of a vampire to describe her father s personality. At the end of the poem
Plath shifts the depiction of her father from a living Nazi to a dead vampire. The vampire who
said he was you / And Drank my blood for years (Plath 73 74). Here Plath bluntly calls her father
a vampire who has sucked her blood for years. The metaphor of a blood sucking vampire is used
to help paint a vivid image of the pain in Plath s relationship. Plath again describes her father as a
vampire who has died with a stake through his heart. There s a stake in your fat black heart / And
the villagers never liked you. / They are dancing and stamping on you (Plath 76 79). Along with

Civic culture In Yugoslavia Essay
One definition of ethnicity reads as followed identity with or membership in a particular racial,
national, or cultural group and observance of that group s customs, beliefs, or language . Ethnicity
defines many of us but a few want our definition to be cleansed and this is when civil conflict
arises. Ethnicityis frequently cited as an explanation for conflicts in the post cold war era.
Yugoslavia, a prime example of a system that encountered ethnic conflict that led to a violent civil
war, consisted of six republics and two autonomous districts. The government at the time wanted
control of these republics but the republics wanted to be free from government control. There was

These congruities of blood, speech, custom, and so on, are seen to have an ineffable, and at
times overpowering, coerciveness in and of themselves. One is bound to one s kinsman, one s
neighbor, one s fellow believer, ipso facto; as a result not merely of personal affection, practical
necessity, common interest, or incurred obligation but at least in great part by virtue of some
unaccountable absolute import attributed to the very tie itself. The general strength of such
primordial bonds, and the types of them that are important, differ from person to person, from
society to society, and from time to time. But for virtually every person, in every society, at almost
all times, some attachments seem to flow more from a sense of natural some would say spiritual
affinity than from social interaction. The cultural primordialist is easier to accept in today s modern
world. For primordialists, ethnic bonds and hatreds are fundamental to one s identity, meaning that
conflicts between ethnic groups are inevitable. Conflicts will by definition be extremely brutal and
violent because there is no room for compromise on one s spiritual ties and cultural beliefs.
Instrumentalist, the second field of thought is when you can differentiate groups from tribes and
identity is situational. In modernization it changes the class system within society but does not
necessarily lead to conflict. Instrumentalism is when ethnic conflict occurs when it

Why The Explorers Should Not Be Glorified
Why the Explorers Shouldn t be Glorified
At the bloody hands of the explorers, lay millions of deaths. To honor these souls, we must not
glorify these explorers for these awful crimes they have committed. These explorers have done
many things that cannot be overlooked. They have brought in epidemics, they have killed people,
and they have enslaved Native Americans. These inexcusable crimes are the very reason we should
not be glorifying these explorers.
The explorers killed people. Document 5 states that the explorers have a cruel and abnormal
punishment. They burn their organs, no year passes in which they do not sacrifice 50 soul at each
temple in their kingdom. Whenever they asked anything of their gods, in order for it to be
fulfilled, they take several boys, girls, men, and women, and in the presence of the statues of their
gods they cut open their chests while they are still alive and take out their hearts. This document
provides the evidence to support my claim, this document proves that the explorers killed humans
in horrible way. Therefore, the explorers should not be glorified. I acknowledge the fact that
Christopher Columbus discovered America, or that Magellan tasted the salt water and found out
where he was. We should be able to endorse that they made a lot of positives, but the positives don

Comparing The Sea Devil, And The Sea Devil And Edward s Rocks
Without the ocean, life as humankind knows it would be impossible. The ocean has provided the
man a bountiful amount of resources. It is easy to think that the big blue is man s friend. Though
with ninety five percent of the ocean unexplored, it is easy to think that it is more than sandy
beaches and volleyball. Stories such as The SeaDevil and Edward s Rocks express the idea that the
sea, as beautiful as it is, can also be equally as powerful and mysterious. Though stories share
similarities they also have differences between their protagonist, conflict, and settings.
The two stories have many similarities though their locations differ. Both take place at night in
a marine area, with both of the protagonists on a pursuit. and Though they take place in different
decades the stories both occur at night. In The Sea Devil, the night is described as Black as a
witch s cat (Gordon, n.d., p. 2). However, unlike Edward s Rocks, The Sea Devil takes place in a
warm Florida bay in late September, whereas Edward s Rocks takes place in a quiet fishing
village of Musgrave Harbour, Newfoundland (Ritson, 1997, p. 300). Edward s Rocks describes
George as a hardy fisherman who hunts for seals for a living with his father and two brothers.
While George and his brothers and father are searching for seals the story says that the sea was
ominous, and... felt uneasy (Ritson, 1997, p. 305), while the protagonist in The Sea Devil night is
described as Dark and silent (Gordon, n.d., p.1).Even though both the stories take place in coastal
locations the two environments have their own unique features, such as the warm Florida bay in
The Sea Devil , where s Edward s Rocks was more of an aggressive northern marine environment.
The conflict in the two stories both can be considered as a person vs environment scenario. The
conflict in Edward s Rocks that George faced was a combination of the weather and navigational
issues. While George his father and brothers are out at sea they used a compass to help them
navigate to Pimming Islands, where they planned to hunt seals. Unfortunately a piece of metal

Analysis Of George Bailey s It s A Wonderful Life
George Bailey is the main protagonist in the film It s a Wonderful Life. Throughout the movie,
we see how George s actions have affected the town of Bedford Falls. So when George Bailey
wishes that he had never been born, it causes many problems with the fate of the characters in
Bedford Falls. George Bailey feels as if his life is worthless and he unwisely concludes that he is
worth more dead than alive, but little does George know, his life has touched more people than
he thinks. By existing and doing what he thinks is right, George Bailey has affected the outcome
of the Building and Loan, Mary Hatch, his brother Harry, and Mr. Gower s career, all the while
keeping Mr. Potter from completely taking over Bedford Falls. If George Bailey had never been
born, the Bailey Bros. Building and Loan would be completely different. After George s father
died, the Building and Loan would be handed over to Mr. Potter who would dissolve the
company and any houses the company created would fall under his jurisdiction. Because the
Building and Loan closed, Uncle Billy is institutionalized at a mental institution. Bailey Park was
never built as well. Because of that, all families that would have lived there, never got the chance
to move to these affordable houses. They instead would be stuck in those shacks that Mr. Potter
calls houses. Ernie the taxi driver never moves into Bailey Park. He stays in Bailey Park and as a

JR has mild, fluent, anomic aphasia. People with fluent aphasia have difficulties understanding

Speech On Birth Control Pills
In 1950, Gregory Pincus and John Rock developed the first birth control pill. The pill is made of
synthetic hormones like the ones that occur naturally in your body. Women can regulate their
cycle, manage family size, and reduce the risk of ovarian cancer with the birth control pill.
Before safe and effective contraception was developed women in ancient times used their own
forms of barriers to prevent pregnancy. These included potions, charms, herbal recipes, and
chants. These recipes were mostly made of harsh materials that killed many women trying to
control their fertility. Later birth control developments were based on more accurate information
concerning conception says essayempire.com. According to kidshealth.org, the birth control pill
is a daily pill that contains hormones to change the body in order to prevent pregnancy. The
hormones in the pill, estrogen and progestin, control the ovaries and the uterus. The pill prevents
pregnancy by stopping ovulation, thickening the mucus around the cervix, and thinning the
lining of the uterus. Birth control pills come in either a twenty one day pack or a twenty eight
day pack. One pill is taken each day around the same time for twenty one days. Depending on the
pack a woman is prescribed, she will either stop taking birth control pills for seven days or will take
a pill that contains no hormones for seven days. During those seven days a woman will get her
period. There are two different kinds of pills. The

I am at my best when someone pushes me out of my shell and that is why I enjoy a brutal honesty

For my own acting method I identify most with the teachings of Sanford Meiser. His process in
finding realism within imaginary circumstances is one that is unparalleled. His method is
effective for me as I do not like technicality while acting, I prefer to rely purely on emotions. I
believe actors should be attempting to put themselves within the shell of the person they
portray. So much so that what they do as that character, becomes as real as if they themselves
were the character. I disagree strongly with Strasberg s acting method in that actors can just tap
in to past emotions in order to play their character. I do not believe if an actor has to play an
emotional scene they need to remember when a relative died, or something else extremely
emotional happened I their life. Not only do I believe its cruel to the actor, I believe it is
cheating in that the actor cannot possible be in character if their mind is elsewhere. Stella Adler
said about the Strasberg method that Drawing on emotions I experienced, for example, when my
mother died to create a role, is sick and schizophrenic. If that is acting, I don t want to do it.

Essay About Athens And Sparta
Athens and Sparta were two supper Poleis in ancient Greece. The two states operated in different
ways in terms of their governance, political life, economy, education and social life.
Athens operated a democratic system of government, while it neighbor the Sparta operated a
military system of government. The right to participate in public life was therefore different in both
states.
The state of Athens became a democracy in about 500 BCE. The composition of Athens population
include the following, citizens, Metics and slaves.(Brandn.d).

that will weaken their government. They equally had their own form of currency in the form of
long rods for trade. This made it difficult for anybody to steal undetected. Education system in
Athens and Sparta were different. In Athens the development of intellectual capacity was
paramount. Boys and girls were treated differently. Boys were favored in all sphere of life than
girls. The boys in Athens started education at home at the age of 7 before they were sent to public
schools to learn reading, writing and mathematics. At the age of 18, boys began the military
training. Girls were not given this opportunity in Athens. They were less educated and thought only
how to cook, clean weave and take care of children at home.
The Spartan system of education differed from that of Athens in that, they believed that men and
women were responsible for protecting the state. This started right from birth.

Lady Capulet And The Nurse
Similarities and differences in literature help us to obtain a more developed understanding of
characters and their surroundings. Within Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet , there are an
abundance of contrasting personalities. One of the most recognizable out of these is that of the
relationship between Lady Capulet and the Nurse. Shakespeare has placed these contradictory
identities so that the reader may be able to see the passionate love of Juliet by Romeo. Within
the play, there are several examples of the contrast between characters. A famous illustration of
this found is in Act I Scene III: It is an honor I dream not of (Juliet) An honor! Were not I thine
only nurse, I would say thou hadst sucked wisdom from thy teat. (Nurse) Well, think of marriage

once she settled down she would lose her youth. Lady Capulet and the Nurse aid readers in
understanding Juliet s childhood because both of the women raised her. Shakespeare accentuates
the caring and humorous ideas of the Nurse and contrasts them with Lady Capulet s deliberate
and serious views on marriage. Lady Capulet s ideals can be expected because of her own
arranged marriage with Lord Capulet. She may want someone to be sympathetic to her past, or
simply just want company. In either case, the Nurse s low key jokes hint that she feel the

The Major Components, Strengths, and Limitations of Urie...
Developmental psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner first introduced the Ecologicial Systems model in
the 1970 s. Bronfenbrenner argued that to understand human development, the environment in
which the person belongs must be understood (Bronfenbrenner, U.1979). The Ecological Systems
model concentrically depicts how a person s development is influenced by their wider environment.
In the original model there were four ecological levels in the system, however in 1979
Bronfenbrenner added an additional fifth level (Bronfenbrenner, U. 1994). With the developing
person in the centre, the five progressive levels of environment include the microsystem,
mesosystem, exosystem, marcosystem and the chronosystem. The microsystem refers to the
activities, social roles and interpersonal relationships experienced by the individual in a face to face
setting in their immediate environment. Examples of a microsystem include a child interacting
with school friends and family. The mesosystem makes reference to the connections between the
different aspects of the microsystem, for example the links between family and the work
environment as the work environment can affect the family environment. The exosystem refers to

The Aspects Of Gender Roles In The Return Of Martin Guerre
Throughout history, our society has created gender norms that are followed consistently by
members of communities. Though they differ from place to place, we recognize trends that seem
almost prescribed to certain genders. Specifically, in the 1600s, men and women had explicit roles
that were designated by people of stature. These expectations were followed loyally and people who
failed to follow suit were shunned or sometimes even suffered seriously punishment including crude
public beatings that were mot only pain inflicting but also status damaging (Rocke, Genderand
Sexual Culture, 159). Looking deeper into the novel The Return of Martin Guerre, we identify
from the start the expectations that are in place and how they play a role in the story. In
comparison of Characters, taking into consideration the standard that had been set for men of this
era, we notice that Pansette (Arnaud du Tilh) is an almost faultless example of what is expected
for men and in contrast, Martin Guerre fails to meet these standards. First, some background on
what was expected of men at this time. Natalie Zemon Davis describes expectancies of men
through a number of instances in Martin Guerre s life. Men had large roles to fulfill both in their
households and in the community. At home, the male was considered the lord of the household and
was expected to provide for the family. In the article Manhood, Patriarchy, and Gender, Alexandra
Shepard illustrates manhood as being in control,

NFL Leadership Case Study
The league had a culture that looked the other way when it came to players improprieties. There
was history of giving personal conduct violators a mere slap on wrist. According to the San
Diego Union Tribune, of the 32 teams that make up the NFL, 21 employed players who had
domestic or sexual violence charges last year. Since 200, more than 700 NFL players found
themselves arrested. The NFL s responses were either a brief suspension or no suspension at all.
Those players who the NFL released from contracts were benchwarmers who most likely had no
impact on the team winning. The ostrich manager syndrome was present. The league did not accept
blame but rather made domestic violencea societal issue, and therefore, not their problem.... Show

Beau Buckley (2001) argue that when there is a lack of accountability in an organization s
leadership, there is an antecedent of unethical behavior within the organization (as cited in
Hoogervorst De Cremer, 2010). The Ivey Business Journal states Without Accountability leaders
don t commit to, or own, the decisions they make, and cannot get others to do so. They blame
others for poor outcomes and in doing so create a culture of fear and disengagement. People stop
caring, with potentially disastrous consequences (Crossan Seijts, 2012). Initially the league
offered no solutions that caused a loss of credibility. Following the arrest of Ray Rice, the
Baltimore Ravens team owner stated I ve been on record of saying my definition of character is
repeating offenses. If we re all one strike and you re out, then we re all in trouble. It s how you
respond to adversity. (Mink, 2014) . It was not until a video emerged that the NFL decided to
mandate discipline, albeit weak discipline. The league suspended Rice for two games. After public
outcry, the league went in the opposite direction. This showed inconsistency in leadership, which
can cause inconsistencies in team members. If leaders are consistent in what they pay attention to,
measure, and control, employees receive clear signals about what is important in the organization.
If, however, leaders are

Essay On The Father Figure In Romeo And Juliet
A father figure is someone who is respected for his paternal qualities and may be an emotional
substitute for a father. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story where a pair of
star cross d lovers take their lives when their feuding families prevent them from being together.
When Romeo and Juliet fall in love, Friar Lawrence plays a pivotal role acting as a father figure
which influences several actions in the play. Friar s role as a father figure in Romeo and Juliet
is central to understanding his support for Romeo s love for Juliet, his advice for Romeo to go
to Mantua, and his guidance for Juliet to fake her death. Friar s acceptance for Romeo s love for
Juliet is one way that Shakespeare portrays his role as a father figure in the play. An example of
this can be seen in Act 2, Scene 3 when Friar reprimands Romeo just as a father would for being
out all night and falling in love with another girl. The Friar states, Young men s love then lies
/ Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes. Friar says this to Romeo when he has fallen in love
with a girl named Juliet so soon after being in love with Rosaline. This proves how Friar acts as
a father because he cares for Romeo and his well being even though he is not his son. He takes
the time to understand Romeo s situation and give him some useful advice on what his next
steps should be. Friar s support for Romeo s love is just one way Shakespeare portrays his
fatherly figure in the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet. Secondly, Friar is at his most fatherly when
Romeo has killed Tybalt and is distressed about being banished. The Friar tells Romeo to go to
Mantua and be patient until things have settled down in the town of Verona. After some time has
passed and fixed some issues, Friar tells Romeo that the two lovers can once again be reunited. He
states: But look thou stay not till the watch be set, For then thou canst not pass to Mantua, Where
thou shalt live till we can find a time To blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, Beg pardon of
the Prince, and call thee back With twenty hundred thousand times more joy Than thou

Essay on Biography of Saint Francis of Assissi
Biography of Saint Francis of Assissi
1. Birth
Saint Francis was born Giovanni Bernadone in either 1181 or 1182 in the
Italian hill town of Assisi. His parents, Pietro and Pica, were members of the rather well to do
merchant class of the town. Pioetro Bernadone was away in
France when his son was born. On his return, he had the boy s name changed from
Giovanni to Franceso ( The Little Frenchman perhaps a tribute to France, a country he loved and
from which his wife s family came). Saint Francis of Assisi, was born in 1182, more probably in
the latter year. His mother s family, which was not without distinction, may originally have hailed
from Provence. His father, Pietro di Bernardone, was a prosperous cloth merchant and ... Show

He could admire his father, honest and worthy, but an austere man, taking up where he laid not
down, reaping where he had not shown. Drama also rendered his secret dream, the realization of
the chivalrous life. The exploits of Charlemagne s paladins and the Knights of the
Round Table were already familiar throughout Italy, and code of knightly behavior was known and
honored, if little practiced. Francis s imagination disported itself in the enchanted world of
knighthood; and all his life he used the language of chivalry and appealed to its ideals.
After Francis had attained manhood and developed his native discernment, he devoted himself to
the profession of his father, who was a merchant. Yet this he did in his own way. Merry and
generous by nature, ever ready for jest and song, he roamed the town of Assisi day and night with
his comrades and was most prodigal in his spending to such and extent that he used all the money
allowed him and all his earnings for banquets and festivities. For this reason his parents frequently
remonstrated with him, pointing out that he was living in such style with his friends that he no
longer seemed to be their son, but the son a great prince. Yet as his parents were wealthy and loved
their son tenderly, they allowed him to have his own way rather that disturb him.

Why People Use Anabolic Steroids
From some research I have seen, people have used steroids to help them keep energetic to
exercise and do varies sports. The use of steroids by people has become so usual to improve
performance in their sport or day to day exercises. Also the use of anabolic steroids by athletes
has become common in order to improve their performance in the sports they play. But, little did
you know that there are three main reasons as to why not to use them. First off, it is a fraud to
use any method that makes people become better in sports, because that will also let fraud in any
other aspect of our lives. Second, while trying to achieve a higher benefit using these chemicals, it
is cheating people who rely on our ability to achieve objectives that should be clean and made by

Greek Life Pros And Cons
Have you ever seen the television series Greek? It suggests drugs, alcohol and sex are the three
most important elements that make up a typical sorority girl or frat boy s life. Students involved
in Greek life are always throwing wild parties and drinking until they pass out, getting involved in
relationship drama, sending their pledges on crazy tasks in the middle of the night, and never
seeming to take any responsibility. However, there is one thing missing from this hit reality series:
the truth. In their late works about Greek life, Evan Wright, Caitlin Flanagan s and Whipple and
Sullivan s articles argued that Greek life has its pros, but merely more cons. Whipple and Sullivan
believed that the Greek communities face a number of high challenges.... Show more content on

If you re shy, it s an easy way to make friends and divide from your high school group. You ll
make friends even more so than just your particular house. You ll meet people during the
recruitment and rush process and at Greek activities, such as socials and philanthropic events
both in sororities and fraternities. If you re attending or planning to attend a larger school, it
makes campus seem a lot smaller because you re included in the Greek community. Feeling like
a small fish in the ocean can be pretty daunting, so making campus feel smaller can be quite
comforting at times. In other words, modern Greek life is a little more different from Wright s
and Whipple and Sullivan s times; the 19th century. The Modern Greek life has change quite
tremendously; from the hazing policies, to the amount of alcohol intakes and partying. The
Greek system on Stetson University is quite a Greek system alright. Getting the chance to speak
with one of the Public Safety officers on campus, they have concluded that they made
approximately five trips to the Greek houses for partying; being very low for a University frat
party. Comparing the Greek life at Stetson to one of a HBCU s (Historically Black Colleges and
University), Greek life will be extremely different. From the partying, to amount of alcohol intake,
to the assaults and lastly the expulsion of a fraternity or sorority for hazing. Stetson University

  • 2. Ice Hockey Vs. Roller Hockey Essay Despite the fact that ice hockey and roller hockey both have the word hockey in common, there are extreme differences between the two sports. There are the obvious differences like one being played on ice and the other on a plastic surface, but many of the differences are only noticed by people that have played both sports. As everyone knows, ice hockey is played on ice, which makes it an extremely high paced game. Unlike ice hockey, Roller hockey is played on a plastic floor that consists of many six inch by six inch tiles. The plastic floor makes roller hockey a much slower paced game than ice hockey. The reason that roller hockey is so much slower than ice hockey is because there is more friction. The friction is produced in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An ice hockey game consists of five players and a goalie per team on the ice. Roller hockey however, only has four players and a goalie. In ice hockey there are blue lines, which are approximately one third of the way up the rink from each end. The blue lines are used to create zones on the ice surface. If an offensive player enters the other team s defensive zone before the puck, the play is whistled dead and it is called off sides. On the other hand in roller hockey, there are no such blue lines. Not having blue lines makes the game much more wide open, which allows players to hang at the other team s net, unlike ice hockey. Another rule of ice hockey is icing, this is when a player shoots the puck from one end of the ice to the other end and no one touches it. In roller hockey there is no rule for icing; instead players are allowed to dump the puck from one end of the floor to the other. Both sports do enforce the same penalties though. For example, both ice and roller hockey referees will call penalties for tripping, slashing, roughing, etc. Hockey does not only consist of players shooting the puck up and down the ice. There is more to hockey than that. The most important aspect of the game is the player s mentality. Ice hockey and roller hockey player s mentalities differ slightly. In ice hockey, players are told to stay in their position. For example, a right winger is supposed to stay along the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Principles of Choosing a Null Hypothesis In the earlier post about bioequivalence, I briefly mentioned the formulation of hypotheses for testing bioequivalence. The null hypothesis states Bio inequivalence , while the alternative states Bioequivalence , as formulation (I). H0: bio inequivalence; Ha: bioequivalence (I) One might argue that the null and alternative hypotheses are incorrectly reversed, since what we generally do is to put statements like no difference , no effect , equivalent , or equal to 175 lbs as null hypotheses. Is this argument correct? To answer this question, we need to answer the simple yet fundamental question: how are the hypotheses established. Let s first be clear of what a null hypothesis is. According to Wikipedia, as quoted below. In statistical inference of observed data of a scientific experiment, the null hypothesis refers to a general or default position: that there is no relationship between two measured phenomena,[1] or that a potential medical treatment has no effect.[2] Rejecting or disproving the null hypothesis and thus concluding that there are grounds for believing that there is a relationship between two phenomena or that a potential treatment has a measurable effect is a central task in the modern practice of science, and gives a precise sense in which a claim is capable of being proven false. The definition gives several clues to choosing a null hypothesis. I try to summarize the rules of choosing a null hypothesis as the three following ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of them believe that a simple look at the eyes of a strange person can hypnotize them. Some of them think that a person who hypnotize uses a pendulum like object that catches the attention of his victim. Lots of incidents were recorded that hypnotism is said to be used in robbery. Channel 4 television version for their Schools Broadcasting Programmes 2. Trevor Nunn s version 3. National Theatre Company version directed by Jonathan Miller and starring Laurence Olivier as Shylock Act IV scene 1 is an intense scene in the play where we see many of the play s main themes such as justice and mercy, money and status, revenge, loyalty, love and prejudice and tolerance. Shakespeare presents a harsh character in Shylock the Jew, but the fact that he also gives him the chance to speak more than any other European playwright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would suggest that Shakespeare is using Shylock as more than a symbol of Jewishness . In this piece of coursework I will be examining mainly how sympathetic or unsympathetic the various versions seem to be and how each Director has succeeded in making the character of Shylock worthy of Shakespeare s realism. Jews were traditionally viewed as outsiders and were not citizens. Christians as far back as the 11th century could not lend money without interest and many Jews earned a living from this profession as they could not join the artisan guilds. As they became their own debt collectors they soon became the target of resentment. A myth was born; with which Shakespeare s audience would have been familiar, of ritual murder or blood libel that Jews would kill adult Christians. It is to this myth to which Shakespeare seems to allude in the pound of flesh incident in this scene. Shakespeare is original in showing us the extent to which Shylock is oppressed by Christians surrounding him and it is through this that Shakespeare succeeds in drawing out sympathy from his audience. Analysis of Act IV scene 1 In the text of Act IV scene 1 before we meet Shylock he is described as a stony adversary, an inhuman wretch, incapable of pity, void and empty from any dram of mercy . Antonio describes Shylock s spirit as being full of tyranny and rage . When Shylock enters

  • 10. Gun Assault Shootings More and more often, we are saddened by the news of mass shootings. Whether it takes place in a school or public area, these shootings are both disastrous and mortifying. Families begin to feel anger and sadness and demand immediate justice. Although these terrible events continue to happen, there have been no significant steps taken towards the decrease in the number of weapons; specifically, assault rifles. This leads one to question do we need to ban the right to own such weapons? If the possession of these weapons is not made illegal, we run the risk of another attack. A ban on assault rifles is not the answer because they are not the cause of such events, and it is a constitutional right to own them. In 1994, Congress passed the Federal Assault Weapons Banwhich eliminated the manufacturing of certain assault rifles for private use (Plumer). This bill expired in 2004 and was never redrafted. Many mass shootings in the last few years, especially ones at Virginia Tech, a movie theater in Colorado, and Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut, Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas, First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs have stirred up the pressure to pass a new bill. Following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, California Senator, Dianne Feinstein, drafted a bill to potentially ban the sale, transfer, manufacturing, and importation of assault rifles. • 11. Culture And Self Esteem Harjeet Chohan SSY 250 Assignment # 1 Everyone wonder at least a couple of times in their lifetime on who we are as an individual, self serving bias and the power of positive thinking. These concepts are brought up in life in a daily basis. Personally, growing up with different cultural influenced me great deal and I feel like it will follow through even in my old age. The concepts that I took interest in knowing more is Culture and Self Esteem, Explaining our Behavior, False Consensus and Uniqueness, Self Esteem Motivation, Learned Helplessness Vs. Self Determination and Reflections on Self Efficacy. They make a person understand how a person is socially and how individuals may view themselves and others. The concept of culture and self esteem is usually connected to what other people think of you and people in your group (Myers.2012 pg 24). This is the idea about who you are and your inner self and if you remain stagnant through different situations or activity. In western culture the idea of culture and self esteem has closely to do with the social circle you hang with and that is linked with your happiness and positivity. Self esteem is described as how you feel about yourself as an individual that can be affected by your social circle and environment. This also correlates with the idea of explaining our behavior, many times we do things very mindlessly, we don t think at all about our emotions or even actions for that matter. We are more aware of things happening ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Cotton From 1850-1860 Factors that influenced the increased production of cotton from 1800s to the 1860s was different resources, demand, and advanced technology. To begin with, natural, human, and capital resources played a huge role in the growth of cotton production. Land was a very essential natural resource to cotton farmers. With fertile land, farmers could grow their big business, cotton. Also, because of land, the number of cotton farms in America began to increase greatly. For instance, in Texas, cotton farms grew an astounding 251.6% from 1850 1860. An important human resource that helped increase cotton manufacture was slaves. Slaves were needed to pick and plant cotton as it was a long and tedious job. From 1800 1860, the amount of slaves increased 342% and by 1860, the slave population amounted to over 3 million (Davidson, 388). Money and profit was a very imperative capital resource. After farmers collected their profits, they would buy more slaves, land, and machinery in hopes of improving their cotton business and growing more cotton (Davidson, 388 389). ... The War of 1812 caused Americans to start creating their own industries and goods after Britain cut off vital goods out of the United States. Forster about Lucy Honeychurch, a young Englishwoman struggling to determine what she truly wants in a society that has strict expectations for her. While vacationing in Italy, Lucy gets a taste of independence and excitement as well as meeting her true love George Emerson, only to return to England and become engaged to Cecil Vyse, a man her family and society deems socially acceptable, but who in reality is dull and pretentious. He views her as a piece of artwork to be owned not a thinking person and is annoyed when she exhibits her own ideas. For example, Cecil is taken aback by Lucy s distaste for Reverend Eager. He compares her behavior to seeing the Leonardo on the ceiling of the Sistine (Forster 81). Overall, Italy provides Lucy with excitement and independence, and upon returning to England she finds herself to be stifled by its dull familiarity and stiff expectations. On the whole, the contrast between the two places contributes to the meaning of the work by emphasizing the importance of defying social convention and expectations in order to discover one s true desires and happiness. By showing Italy, with its less defined classes and lack of social rigidity, as bright and exciting, Forster shows how rewarding it is to ignore social roles and be independent. In Italy, Lucy was able to be independent and explore, therefore making her time in Italy much more exciting than in England. Similarly, the scenery itself if depicted as more vibrant. The contrast between Italy s excitement and England s familiarity emphasize how much more interesting life is for Lucy when she is taking charge. Forster also contrasts the people of Italy and England. The Italians are very genuine and go after what they want, as opposed to the English whose actions are dictated by what other may think. • 15. The Last Of The Tudor Dynasty Essay Nicknamed the Virgin Queen, I, Elizabeth Tudor, have been the one of the longest reigning and most beloved monarchs of my time. Married to my duty, my people and my country, longing for no other love, though this means I am to be the last of the Tudor dynasty. Calculated, cunning, beautiful and brilliant, my life, and reign will be spoken of for years to come. Though born into royalty, life has been turbulent to say the least, from a young age being shown the wonders and terrors of the throne. Throughout the span of my life moving from princess, to lady to Queen, showing that women can indeed be great rulers is a significant consequence of my rule. In order to understand and appreciate my reign as Queen one must examine my childhood, rise to the throne and the accomplishments of my rule. My father, Henry VIII had three children, my elder sister Mary, myself and youngest Edward . Both Edward and I grew up Protestant and without mothers so we grew quite close. At the age of four Katherine Champernowne, later to become Katherine Ashley, became my primary caretaker. Katherine was a well educated woman whose affection and kindness greatly influenced me throughout my life. My third step mother was Catherine Howard, who was attentive and often playful. The first public dinner with her she had me sit beside her, a great honor, it was a momentous occasion for my young self. Unfortunately she, like my own mother, was condemned to death for adultery, when I was only eight years old. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the major ideas of the original poems is that we all have a choice in the decisions and paths we take in life. In my poem I enforce that idea in line 4, Long I waited, considering each choice . Before any one decides to live a certain way they must consider if they would not have regrets on the life they chose to live. The idea of not being able to go back to the point where the decision is made is represented in both poems. Simply put, the downfall of General Alvarez was a lesson to the US about not to count on this particular General as a useful/reliable permanent ally. As the 1985 elections approached, and with reelection prohibited, President Suazo was looking for ways to nominate a friend, Oscar Mejia Arellano, as continuity of his government. Most Hondurans understood that no much progress was made during his administration since the US Embassador Negroponte and General Alvarez basically had guided the country. In 1986 Jose Azcona Hoyos became president of Honduras. As funding and aid became limited, and the US Contra funding methods were severely questioned and investigated, the presidency of Azcona was one in which peace in the region began to unfold. In the US, President Ronald Reagan and his administration left office in 1988 with high ratings and in Honduras, by the time President Azcona completed his turn in 1990, the Contra rebels in Nicaragua were demobilizing. George Washington Plunkittwas a senator in New York during the turn of the 19th Century to the 20th Century. He was very successful in politics, and at one time he held four offices at once and collected salaries from three of them. G. W. Before civil service reform, elected officials could easily remove anti Tammany city employees and replace them with Tammany supporters in return for their work during the campaign. This sort of spoils system encouraged young people to get involved with politics and to love their country. According to Plunkitt (and he gives many examples) after civil service examinations young men become anarchists or in the worst case one joins the Spanish army and actually fights against the same men he used to support and love. Not only did this spoils system encourage young people, it also helped hold the United States party system together. And that, according to Plunkitt, would all change if supporters were not rewarded with government jobs for their work. However, the Civil Service act of 1883 did more to instigate the merit system in politics than anything else. Plunkitt s arguments against the civil service reforms are amusing but his generalities make his argument difficult to believe. One would assume that Plunkitt s motivation for attacking civil service was because of his personal motivation not the reasons presented in his Very Plain Talks on Very Practical Politics. Plunkitt clearly was a politician for himself and his supporters, in all he cared very little about the welfare of New York City as a whole. People with fluent aphasia have difficulties understanding spoken and written language, but expression is mostly within normal limits (Robb, 2014). JR has difficulties naming certain words, often nouns. For example, she was having trouble naming Riverstone , a restaurant, so instead she said Dot s (the owner) place near the Waitaki River . They are normally fine for the first 45 minutes and show no signs of fatigue, but by the end of the hour it is always evident that they are tired and would like to end the visit. On the sessions where they don t have the fourth years visit, or have not had another session before us, their communication ability is consistent. When we had our reflection after the first term, we decided that forty minute visits might be more productive. The pill is made of synthetic hormones like the ones that occur naturally in your body. Women can regulate their cycle, manage family size, and reduce the risk of ovarian cancer with the birth control pill. Before safe and effective contraception was developed women in ancient times used their own forms of barriers to prevent pregnancy. These included potions, charms, herbal recipes, and chants. These recipes were mostly made of harsh materials that killed many women trying to control their fertility. Later birth control developments were based on more accurate information concerning conception says essayempire.com. According to kidshealth.org, the birth control pill is a daily pill that contains hormones to change the body in order to prevent pregnancy. The hormones in the pill, estrogen and progestin, control the ovaries and the uterus. The pill prevents pregnancy by stopping ovulation, thickening the mucus around the cervix, and thinning the lining of the uterus. Birth control pills come in either a twenty one day pack or a twenty eight day pack. One pill is taken each day around the same time for twenty one days. Depending on the pack a woman is prescribed, she will either stop taking birth control pills for seven days or will take a pill that contains no hormones for seven days. Although, I didn t identify with all of Stella Adler s technique s as a whole as it doesn t seem to take as in depth of an approach as some of the other acting methods, some of her techniques such as acting is doing I found very helpful. When Adler says acting is doing she is referring to how every actormust have a purpose for an action. I am at my best when someone pushes me out of my shell and that is why I enjoy a brutal honesty between my acting partner and myself. For my own acting method I identify most with the teachings of Sanford Meiser. His process in finding realism within imaginary circumstances is one that is unparalleled. His method is effective for me as I do not like technicality while acting, I prefer to rely purely on emotions. I believe actors should be attempting to put themselves within the shell of the person they portray. So much so that what they do as that character, becomes as real as if they themselves were the character. I disagree strongly with Strasberg s acting method in that actors can just tap in to past emotions in order to play their character. I do not believe if an actor has to play an emotional scene they need to remember when a relative died, or something else extremely emotional happened I their life. Not only do I believe its cruel to the actor, I believe it is cheating in that the actor cannot possible be in character if their mind is elsewhere. Stella Adler said about the Strasberg method that Drawing on emotions I experienced, for example, when my mother died to create a role, is sick and schizophrenic. Shakespeare has placed these contradictory identities so that the reader may be able to see the passionate love of Juliet by Romeo. Bronfenbrenner argued that to understand human development, the environment in which the person belongs must be understood (Bronfenbrenner, U.1979). The Ecological Systems model concentrically depicts how a person s development is influenced by their wider environment. In the original model there were four ecological levels in the system, however in 1979 Bronfenbrenner added an additional fifth level (Bronfenbrenner, U. 1994). With the developing person in the centre, the five progressive levels of environment include the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, marcosystem and the chronosystem. The microsystem refers to the activities, social roles and interpersonal relationships experienced by the individual in a face to face setting in their immediate environment. Examples of a microsystem include a child interacting with school friends and family. The mesosystem makes reference to the connections between the different aspects of the microsystem, for example the links between family and the work environment as the work environment can affect the family environment. The exosystem refers to the links between two or more settings with at least one of the settings not directly influencing the person, for example, the workplace of a parent and the home environment. • 42. The Aspects Of Gender Roles In The Return Of Martin Guerre Throughout history, our society has created gender norms that are followed consistently by members of communities. Though they differ from place to place, we recognize trends that seem almost prescribed to certain genders. Specifically, in the 1600s, men and women had explicit roles that were designated by people of stature. These expectations were followed loyally and people who failed to follow suit were shunned or sometimes even suffered seriously punishment including crude public beatings that were mot only pain inflicting but also status damaging (Rocke, Genderand Sexual Culture, 159). Looking deeper into the novel The Return of Martin Guerre, we identify from the start the expectations that are in place and how they play a role in the story. In comparison of Characters, taking into consideration the standard that had been set for men of this era, we notice that Pansette (Arnaud du Tilh) is an almost faultless example of what is expected for men and in contrast, Martin Guerre fails to meet these standards. • 48. Essay On The Father Figure In Romeo And Juliet A father figure is someone who is respected for his paternal qualities and may be an emotional substitute for a father. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story where a pair of star cross d lovers take their lives when their feuding families prevent them from being together. When Romeo and Juliet fall in love, Friar Lawrence plays a pivotal role acting as a father figure which influences several actions in the play. Friar s role as a father figure in Romeo and Juliet is central to understanding his support for Romeo s love for Juliet, his advice for Romeo to go to Mantua, and his guidance for Juliet to fake her death. Friar s acceptance for Romeo s love for Juliet is one way that Shakespeare portrays his role as a father figure in the play. An example of this can be seen in Act 2, Scene 3 when Friar reprimands Romeo just as a father would for being out all night and falling in love with another girl. The Friar states, Young men s love then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes. Friar says this to Romeo when he has fallen in love with a girl named Juliet so soon after being in love with Rosaline. This proves how Friar acts as a father because he cares for Romeo and his well being even though he is not his son. He takes the time to understand Romeo s situation and give him some useful advice on what his next steps should be. Friar s support for Romeo s love is just one way Shakespeare portrays his fatherly figure in the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet. Secondly, Friar is at his most fatherly when Romeo has killed Tybalt and is distressed about being banished. The Friar tells Romeo to go to Mantua and be patient until things have settled down in the town of Verona. After some time has passed and fixed some issues, Friar tells Romeo that the two lovers can once again be reunited. He states: But look thou stay not till the watch be set, For then thou canst not pass to Mantua, Where thou shalt live till we can find a time To blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, Beg pardon of the Prince, and call thee back With twenty hundred thousand times more joy Than thou ...
