The sun is a constant in our lives. We wake up to it faithfully rising on the horizon. We enjoy its
unceasing warmth and energy throughout the day before falling asleep after it sets. With night
passing quickly, we take no notice of the moon that resides in place of the sun. However, it is this
unnoticed moonthat more accurately mirrors our perception of time and the phases in our lives.
William Shakespeare realized this about the moon. In his play, A Midsummer s Night Dream, he
uses the motif of the moon to symbolize both time and the phases in our lives just as he does
through the characters of the play.
Shakespeare conveys the passage of time through the character of Theseus early on in the play.
Theseus, referencing the moon, expresses his distaste for how slow time is passing by saying

After the attack and the disturbing music the dead silence came. This is to highlight the fact that
the girl has been killed in a very brutal and painful way and that nobody could help her, even if they
wanted to. It also tells the audience that the shark is creepy, awful and unstoppable. This shark
characterisation helped the director to build tension more effectively before the future attacks.
Just like silence, music can also be used to scare the audience. An example of this is the loudness
of the theme tune increasing as the shark is getting closer to its prey. It tells us that the attack is

People are now getting to the point where they live in such poverty that they cannot afford food to
feed their family or themselves. While commonly thought to only occur in third world countries, it

continues to grow. Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a

shape character representation. An Aesthetic device is an element that authors intentionally use to

Irony is a technique that is used (through a character or plot development) to convey an intention or

Eric Slick from Dr. Dog and Dominic Angelella form DRGN KING. They played songs LP s and
45 s in between sets and I had the opportunity to speak with Eric about Dr. Dog and the music
business. He is the drummer and arranged the horns on the new album, B Room. The album is a
group project and is the driving force in the wide range of musical styles on this fine album. It is
disappointing to hear that sales are light, even though, by many standards it is a very good
effort. Folks take our music we make our living touring. Intellectually, I know this, but folks
would not steal tips, a painting, or money, yet feel comfortable taking an artist s work. Thanks

Numb Toes and Good Times
There are not many things I love more than the smell of pine trees, the cold brisk wind of the
first snowfall, and the joy of Christmas time. I can see myself now, getting released on my last
day of school before winter break. Second grade might not have been a struggle, but a couple
weeks off of school was just what a little me needed. I trudged home through the snow and slush.
The sidewalks were almost non existent in Michigan winters; you had to search for footprints
made by others or risk a rolled ankle. Muddy slush seeped into my snow boots, yet still I had a grin
peeled across my face. This smile was mostly a result of the day approaching, December 25th.
Christmas mostly meant a couple things to me when I was little, presents, candy, and my favorite
vacation out west to the mountains. The Christmas card had already sent out that year, it was all
seven of us; heads morphed onto the Little Rascals characters. At the time this was probably
relatively funny, but now it s pretty much just embarrassing. The poems on the cards were always

Lauren Dursky and I decided that we would implement different forms of co teaching for different
subjects. It did not seem efficient to use the same method for each subject, so we decided to vary
the instruction. For math, we decided to use station teaching. This allows students to discover a true
understanding of each concept through different activities. This style of co teachingalso allows each
teacher to incorporate his or her own unique perspective into the classroom. This style could be
challenging for math because it requires extra planning and you have to make sure both teachers
are teaching similar methods at the same time so movement from one station to the next is
smooth. We then decided to use the teaming method for history. The teaming method allows both
teachers to present their own views to the class and bounce ideas off of each other (The Power of
2, 2005). Instead of using textbooks to teach history, we decided to take a concept and explore its
significance through events and debates. We would start off by each presenting a different point of
view on a single event and have students divide into two groups based on their initial thoughts.
Each teacher would then lead their portion of the class through research and constructing a debate.

Did you know that Circus Maximus could seat nearly a quarter of Rome s population? That s
why it was one of the biggest and best arenas in ancient Rome. It could seat 250,000 spectators,
and had 300,000 seats. It was HUGE, 2037 feet in length and 387 feet in width. It had a
circumference of a mile. It was situated between 2 hills, the Aventine and Palatine hills, and when it
started, spectators watched from there. It had its share of blood and difficulties, but it can t be
denied that Circus Maximus was awe inspiring.
The Circus Maximus was one of the best constructed buildings in ancient Rome, able to withstand a
lot! After burning down twice, It was reconstructed using concrete and marble, making it stronger
and more beautiful than ever (romeguide.it). It was originally made entirely of wood, making it
easier for it to catch fire or collapse, as it also did twice (romeguide.it). There was a separate
imperial box for the Emperor and the royal family, making it a more popular place with important
persons and the Emperor himself (tribunesandtriumphs.org). After its being reconstructed for the
second time by Trajan, Pliny the Younger stated that it rivaled even the beauty of the temples...
Although it was built for chariot racing, Circus Maximus also hosted gladiator fights, wild
animal hunts, sporting events, and processions (uchicago.edu). This many events at one place
was quite a feat, and at one point, Circus Maximus hosted 24 races a day (uchicago.edu). Circus
Maximus had 300,000 seats, as I said before, so lots of Romans could come to events, boosting
the popularity of the Circus (romeguide.it). Finally, the Circus also hosted religious events, and
inside there was a built in shrine and 2 huge obelisks, the smaller of which was 88 feet high
(uchicago.edu)! All this was very important to the Romans, and even to people
